I feel like there is so much talk about lots of weight gain in this community, but what about just having a cute stuffed tummy?? One that’s familiar but just bigger? Without gaining lots of weight?
I feel like all the posts I see in this community are just so focused on weight gain and becoming over 300 pounds/obese but I can’t really relate. I feel somewhat alienated by the sheer amount and wonder if you or anyone else thinks this too?
Tldr: weight gain so popular and belly stuffing is hot without it imo. Am I weird for thinking that?
you're not weird! I'm so with you, anon; stuffed tummies are hot. I wouldn't say I feel alienated by the emphasis on weight gain, but careful observers of my blog will note it's not my main deal. (stuffing is my main deal. definitely.)
be the blog you wish to see in the world! if you don't see posts you relate to, maybe it's time to do more posting. sounds like we have similar tastes :)

ok lets say that the links all gwt tickets to an mcr concert (and the free time and means to go as well)
do they enjoy it? is it too loud or too many people? would they get merch? given the chance who would go again?
- latter, pretending to fight agaainst its emo phase fae never really grew out of
Alright, confession. I had to go look up who MCR was. This leads me to my second confession, which is that I have... kinda never listened to My Chemical Romance?
I think I know the Black Parade song, if that helps anything
However I have been to concerts before so I'll just mentally photoshop a lot of people in black leather pants onto the experience and do my best to answer you!
They enjoy it for the most part! But it's definitely too loud towards the end, when everyone's tired and sleepy. Merch would depend on how cool the designs are for everyone but Sketch, who buys one of everything on the sheer principle of Professional Artwork.
They'd go again, but only if they can get the whole Chain for a second time, and also they're bringing earplugs

i don’t understand artists who don’t like it when people identify their influences, or more especially, when they’re influenced by art!! like, if i made something that you like SO much that you need more to the point that you will go make it yourself, that is the biggest honor you can give me tbh. if my art inspires more art i am happiest. the world is better when it’s full of inspired and inspiring creation.

Of parsnips and parsnip soup
Tumblr media
So the question of parsnips, and particularly parsnip soup, came up secondary to this quote from an interview with Terry Pratchett. (Thanks to @captainfantasticalright for the transcription.)
Terry: “You can usually bet, and I’m sure Neil Gaiman would say the same thing, that, uh, if I go into a bookstore to do a signing and someone presents me with three books, the chances are that one of them is going to be a very battered copy of Good Omens; and it will smell as if it’s been dropped in parsnip soup or something in and it’s gone fluffy and crinkly around the edges and they’ll admit that it’s the fourth copy they’ve bought”.
And when @petermorwood saw this, he immediately reblogged it and added four recipes for parsnip soup.
These kind of surprised some folks, as not everybody knew that parsnips were an actual thing: or if they were, what they looked like or were useful for.
The vegetable may well be better known on this side of the Atlantic. (And I have to confess that as a New Yorker and Manhattanite, with access to both great outdoor food markets and some of the best grocery stores in the world, I don't think that parsnips ever came up on my personal radar while I was living there.) So I thought I'd take a moment to lay out some basics for those who'd like to get to know the vegetable better.
The parsnip's Linnaean/botanical name is Pastinaca sativa, and in the culinary mode it's been around for a long time. It's native to Eurasia, and is a relative to parsley and carrots (with which it's frequently paired in the UK and Ireland). The Romans cultivated it, and it spread all over the place from there. Travelers who passed through our own neck of the woods before the introduction of the potato noted that "the Irish do feed much upon parsnips", and in the local diet it filled a lot of the niches that the potato now occupies.
You can do all kinds of things with parsnips. The Wikipedia article says, correctly, that they can be "baked, boiled, pureed, roasted, fried, grilled, or steamed". But probably the commonest food form in which parsnips turn up around here is steamed or simmered with carrots and then mashed with them: so that you can buy carrot-and-parsnip mash, ready-made, in most of our local grocery chains.
It also has to be mentioned that most Irish kids have had this stuff foisted on them at one point or another, and a lot of them hate it. (@petermorwood would be one.) I find it hard to blame anybody for this opinion, as one of the parsnip's great selling points—its spicy, almost peppery quality—gets almost completely wiped out by the carrot's more dominant flavor and sweetness.
Roasting parsnips, though, is another matter entirely. They roast really well. And parsnip soups are another story entirely, as it's possible to build a soup that will emphasize the parsnip's virtues.
So, to add to Peter's collection, here's one I made earlier—like yesterday afternoon, stopping the cooking sort of halfway and finishing it up today.
I was thinking in a vague medioregnic-food way about a soup with roasted bacon in it, but not with potatoes (as those have been disallowed from the Middle Kingdoms for reasons discussed elsewhere. Tl;dr: it's Sean Astin's fault). And finally I thought, "Okay, if we're going to roast some pork belly or back bacon, then why not save some energy and roast some parsnips too? The browned skins'll help keep them from going to mush in the soup."
So: first find your parsnips. I used four of them. You peel them with a potato peeler...
Tumblr media
...sort of roughly quarter them, the long way...
Tumblr media
...then chop them in half the short way, toss them in a bowl with some oil—olive oil, in this case—spread them on a baking sheet, and season them with pepper, coarse salt, and some chile flakes. (I used ancho and bird's-eye chile flakes here.)
Tumblr media
These then went into the oven for about half an hour, and came out like this.
Tumblr media
While that was going on, I got a block of ready-cooked Polish snack bacon out of the freezer.
Tumblr media
On its home turf, this is the kind of thing that turns up (among other ways) sliced very thin on afternoon-snack plates, with cheeses and breads. But we like to score it and roast it to sweat some of the fat out, and then use it in soups and stews and so forth.
So I scored this chunk on most of its sides, browned it in a skillet, then shoved the skillet into the oven for twenty minutes or so. Here's the bacon after it was done.
Tumblr media
While it was cooking, I made about a liter of soup stock from a couple of stock cubes. If you can get pork stock cubes, they'd be best for this, but beef works fine.
Tumblr media
This then went into the pot and was brought up to just-boiling while the bacon and the parsnips were chopped into more or less bite-sized chunks. After that, the meat and veg were added to the pot and the whole business was left to simmer for a couple of hours while I went off to do some line editing.
Finally I turned it off and left it on the stove overnight (our kitchen is quite cool, it was in no bacteriological danger from being left out this way) and then finished its simmering time around lunchtime today.
And here it is. (...Or was. It was very nice.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...Anyway, this is only one of potentially thousands of takes on parsnip soup. Recipes for more robust versions—based on mashed parsnips and more vegetables, or different meats—are all over the place.
Meanwhile, as regards how much damage this soup could do to your copy of Good Omens if you dropped yours in it, I'd rate this at about 5 damage points out of 10. ...Call it 5.5 if you factor in the chiles. Soups along the boiled-and-mashed-parsnip spectrum would probably inflict damage more in the 7.50-8.0 range. But your results may vary: so I'll leave you all to your own experimentation.

How you will step into your rich bitch era + advice
Pile 1 -> Pile 2 -> Pile 3
Pile 1:
3oS, 9oP, World, 5oW, Empress (AoW)
I see that some of you may have recently experienced a setback in your career or personal life that was mostly outside of your control. For many of you, this may have been in the form of an unexpected job loss or an expensive and contentious divorce or separation. However, I see this situation as a blessing in disguise because whatever you lost had already outgrown its usefulness in your life. For many of you, this misfortune has already led to an unexpected material gain and an increased feeling of self-confidence in your ability to stand on your own two feet. If not, I see this set back being short lived, as you are now well on your way to stepping into your winning season.
Deep down you know the world is yours, and from here on out I see you will be working to achieve a level of self-mastery that allows you to realize all of your goals. Some of you may decide to work in the field of Project Management or Marketing and PR, while others of you may be interested in careers that involve lots of international travel or relocating to a different country. I see that whatever path you choose Pile 1, you have the determination and fortitude to take on the competition and still come out on top.
For a few of you, I feel you could also be fighting with yourself or feeling divided about which direction to take next. You have a lot of different skills that could take you in completely opposite directions and you might be struggling to focus on or pick just one option. However, I see that once you figure out which path to choose you will move forward with determination until you reach a life that resembles the one you’ve always dreamed of. Whatever you decide to do, keep moving forward Pile 1 because it only gets better from here!
Advice: 9oP
Always remember that you have full control over your financial abundance and success. Start cultivating your dream life by building upon the work you have already done and you will be amazed at how quickly things begin to fall into place. If you’ve felt compelled to pursue a career that provides you with the freedom to set your own schedule, you are being advised to explore other options outside of a traditional 9 to 5.
Pile 2
AoW, Empress rev, Chariot, 10oP, Magician (9oP)
If you're not already self-employed, I see that many of you have a lot of creative ideas in your mind that are just waiting to be acted upon or brought to life. For some of you, I see that in the past you may have experienced periods of stagnation in your career which of course left you feeling frustrated and angry or even depressed. At some point, you may have felt rejected in your previous efforts or that others did not recognize all that you really have to offer. If that resonates, I see you are now focused on balancing your emotions surrounding past failures and regaining control over your circumstances as you dust yourself off and try your luck again. Pile 2, many of you are incredibly talented and hard working. I’m hearing that all that is needed to step into your rich bitch era is for you to confidently move forward towards the direction of your dreams, knowing that what is meant for you is already yours.
In fact, pile 2, once you find your niche or begin to put in work towards a new project or idea, I see you quickly becoming unstoppable! Many of you are visionaries and forward thinkers, possessing the strength and vitality necessary to bring your creative ideas or business ventures to fruition in a way that most others cannot. You have a natural talent for thinking outside the box, and this is what makes you so powerful. Regardless of any losses you may have faced in the past, you have all the resources and strength needed to pursue whatever you desire in this lifetime. For many of you, I see that success and abundance are right around the corner, if it’s not already here now. And if you are not self-employed or an independent contractor, I see that you will find success as an entrepreneur once you combine your creative ideas with your knack for selling, investing or bringing in money from multiple sources. I see that some of you may end up retiring early and living off of several streams of passive income or interest & residuals. Pile 2, your life has the potential to be the embodiment of the phrase “work smarter, not harder.”
Advice: Justice
Pile 2, if you have been feeling lost, confused or unbalanced in your career, you are being advised to seek out ways to bring fairness, clear-thinking and balance back into your life. Some of you may be a Libra sun, moon or rising, as represented by The Justice card, or you may feel naturally drawn towards a job or career in the legal field. Those of you who resonate with this card are powerful decision-makers who have reached perfect equilibrium between the intuitive and the intellectual mind. To step into your abundant era, focus on restoring balance in your life, especially emotional balance, so that you can allow the laws of karma to begin working in your favor once again.
Pile 3
10oP, 5oC, 9oC, 8oS, Magician (High Priestess)
Pile 3, I see that many of you have achieved financial abundance and prosperity in the past, but you may have also recently experienced financial losses or setbacks which have effected you quite deeply. Some of you may have been let go from a large company or corporation, or you feel stuck in a dead end job, trying to make ends meet as your costs rise and your savings continue to dwindle. Despite this, I see you haven’t lost hope for a new beginning, as you still really desire to live a life full of abundance and financial freedom like you did once before.
Pile 3, I see here that some of you are not recognizing your own power or that you give it away easily to those who may not have your best interest at heart. There could also be an issue with you simply wishing for things to get better instead of taking action to go after what it is you truly want. I feel this could be due to a fear of failure or of making a decision and being stuck with it. I also feel that some of you may feel stuck or trapped due to internal or external pressures, some of which might stem from your past, your childhood or the unealistic expectations set upon you by others.
However, I see that as you begin to harness the power of your mind to plan, direct and create your ideal life, things will slowly but surely begin to turn around for you. Many of you may be blessed with the ability to easily manifest your desires. Pile 3, your minds are incredibly powerful! In fact, you may be the type who has to stay mindful of your thoughts and words, as you have the power to easily speak things into existence. If you can see it in your mind’s eye, you can achieve it. (I’m hearing the lyrics to I Believe I Can Fly by R. K*lly, so maybe that song might resonate with some of you). The Magician is attributed to Mercury, and deals with communication, intellect and action, so some of you may find you are naturally drawn to careers that allow you to express your thoughts on paper or speak directly with others. You may be great at giving speeches or lectures, writing manuals and SOPs or anything that requires being good at both effective communication and teaching or motivating others. Many will see your success and look up to you in this lifetime, Pile 3. Just remember, what it meant for you will ever ever pass you by. You just have to be willing to go out there and get it.
Advice: High Priestess
Remember that all success and failure begins in the mind. You can manifest your conscious desires by harnessing the power of telepathy, clairvoyance, and intuitive communication to receive insight into your current situation. Here you are being advised to utilize your conscious mind to bring your creative ambitions to life and tap into your intuitive side to receive the answers you’re looking for, instead of manifesting from a place of fear or uncertainty.
Thanks for reading🔮✨

I guess I just feel like... the weltanschauung on tumblr, and this seems true in both the more mainstream corners like fandom tumblr and the more niche corners like rattumb, is one that is very concerned with engineering one's environment. People are very picky, finicky about their surroundings, and this is viewed as a good thing—you're supposed to settle on very specific requirements for your environment and then cultivate them. This is expressed in like, the presence of DNIs, the advice to block profusely, etc., but also in ways that interface with IRL life. Like how it seems kind of common for rationalists to go and live in rationalist communities, full of people who are similar to them and have their same environmental and social preferences.
It's like a general predilection to insularity.
And this is so different from the world I'm used to, in which variety is viewed as inherently desirable, in which one is considered to benefit personally from "meeting all different kinds of people" and "having all different kinds of experience", and so on. And that mindset aligns more with my own preferences; insularity makes me uncomfortable.
Sometimes I wonder if like, this is related to the thing where a lot of people here seem to have hated school. I liked school! I liked meeting a variety of people, and encountering different stuff, and so on.
It's like, there was this post going around a while ago that said "I don't want to be more like everyone else, I want everyone else to be more like me". And everyone was reblogging it, all my mutuals were reblogging it, and I was just like "I don't relate to this at all, that sounds like it would suck".
This is part of my ongoing series of posts "max thinks out loud about why they feel they are clashing with tumblr culture so consistently these days".
Anyway, I guess, I don't mind being around people who have a desire for insularity in this sort of way, but I guess what I feel is that tumblr is a bit of an eco chamber, there is no source to remind people that not everyone feels this same way. Sometimes discussions go in a weird direction because tumblr users cannot seem to imagine "guy who actually likes small talk and might find having a conversation with a relative stranger who they share little in common with to be an enriching part of life" as an actually existing type of person.

I think a lot of transfemme culture is formed and cultivated by how we were rejected and desperately tried to fit it.
like, take transfemme memes. a lot of memes are about how broad generalizations such as "trans women do this thing", the thing being computer programming or enjoying a particular video game. and while I won't deny that a lot of trans women do those things, the vast majority don't. so why are things like programmer socks and fallout new vegas and bionicals and gundam so popular with trans women despite them not being universally applicable?
I think it might have to do with our being rejected as kids and how we would do everything we could to try and be accepted by others.
maybe this only applies to me. I'm definitely not trying to make a broad generalization to explain other broad generalizations. I'm basing this primarily on my experiences.
but when I was in middle school and high school, I used to lie about watching certain movies or playing certain games even when I didn't. I could have been because my parents wouldn't let me, I couldn't afford them, or I just wasn't actually interested. but most of what I was interested was very niche nerdy things like anime and computers and math and art. but in a desperate attempt to join in conversations and make friends, I would lie and say I was interested in the popular things so other people would accept me.
now, years later, the internet connects us and helps us explore our nerdy interests much more. I remember I was the only person at high school who cared at all about undertale, but then I found tumblr and whole communities online who would talk about the game I played. they also got me interested in things I never would have been into otherwise. transgender people online got me into star wars (which I regret) and evangelion (which I also regret but not as much). and there are some things that I've never experienced, but still know about due to cultural osmosis. I know a lot about fallout new vegas and magic the gathering and ultrakill despite never playing them. I would consider myself part of those fandoms despite never really interacting with the content, just because I have so many online trans friends who are into those things.
I think that the most popular things just happened to become transfemme memes due to how many nerdy trans people unapologetically love them online, and people who have never experienced them but are friends with the people who do love them agree with them to fit in.
I'm not saying this is a bad thing. it's perfectly fine to be part of a fandom or community even if you don't have a huge interest in it just to be with your friends. I'm not super interested in ttrpgs, but I still play just because I like hanging out with my friends.
computer programming is popular in trans women circles not because all trans women are computer programmers. it's popular because it's a booming industry and the small percentage of trans women who are computer programmers really enjoy it and talk about it online, and their online friends support them and agree with them even if they aren't computer programmers themselves.
idk. I forget where I was going with this. I just think it's really nice how trans women, and honestly the entire queer community as a whole, tends to support each other's niche interests and uplift each other.

☀️Astrology Observations: Part 3☀️
I noticed that Leo risings are obsessed with leopard/cat/tiger/any feline prints. They also might have a Lion tattoo or necklace or something similar. My cousin has her Venus in Leo and she always wears Leopard prints and always has a Lion as her wallpaper.
Pluto in the 6th house transits and in the natal chart usually creates an obsession with fitness, health, and diet. I know someone with this aspect who works out 3 times per day and is repeatedly asked by her doctor to work out less.
Harsh Mars-Mercury aspects in the birth chart can indicate coming off as overly aggressive with your tone. These people frequently interrupt people, talk fast, and don't really care about the effect that their words have on people as long as they get their point across. These people also curse a lot or, on a more positive note, are really good with crafts.
Aquarius Mercuries usually major in technical/STEM fields such as UI/UX Design, Computer Science, AI, Math, etc.
Having Aquarius in the 2nd house frequently indicates that you need to create opportunities to expand your resources (make money/develop your career or business) independently and in a way that leverages your uniqueness. These people cannot accept a 9 to 5 job unless it is technical, niche, or humanitarian. Either way, they tend to face delays when getting started in their careers because they more intensely rebel against having to work for someone else's enterprise.
Venus in Pisces individuals tend to be overly generous with their resources and spill money like water.
Some Scorpio Mars natives are motivated to take action out of spite or to prove someone wrong.
A lot of Leo risings with Taurus on their midheaven tend to be models because it is a Venus-ruled career. However, there are other interpretations based on the house that Venus is in. For example, a person that I know has a Taurus MC which is ruled by Venus in the 6th house. Incidentally, she makes money being a model and a fitness/health guru.
Having Libra in the 9th house indicates that you are a bit wishy-washy about choosing your career. You determine your worldviews based on what the people around believe in and tend to mirror their views instead of cultivating your own. In university, these people thrive in interdisciplinary careers, relationship psychology, international affairs, diplomacy, design, as well as LAW.
People with Taurus in the 9th house study the arts and humanities a lot of the time (they could become literary critics, writers, and cultural historians). This placement can also indicate that you attend a very aesthetically pleasing university with a lot of greenery. On another note, it can indicate being interested in the arts and design and educating yourself on such Venusian (can include finance) matters.
Having a Saturn-ruled (Aquarius or Capricorn) sign in the 7th house indicates being too closed-off from relationships, fear of vulnerability, and delays in getting partnered due to their high standards.
Taurus risings usually look like or embody the energy of their Venus sign.
Having a lot of 4th house placements can indicate living with an older family member or being in a neighborhood with a lot of old people.
Pluto in the 11th house indicates being isolated from society, losing a friend, or having friends that are bad for you. It also indicates having very potent relationships and being an influential figure with a lot of powerful connections.
Sun-Pluto aspects indicate being exploited when young. A figure in your life exerted power over you and made you feel humiliated. This usually scars the individual and makes them very paranoid of people's intentions and allows them to learn how to read people as a self-protective mechanism. Frequently, Sun-Pluto contacts can indicate leaving a powerful (negative or positive) mark on the world post-mortem. Emmitt Till is an example of someone with this aspect whose death was striking and shook the likes of Mohammad Ali and James Baldwin. His mother wanted everyone to see his mangled body by insisting on an open casket funeral to show the brutality of what caused his murder-racism (he was brutally murdered after being falsely accused of raping a white woman in the 50s). The picture of his body, to this day, is very powerful and represents a pivotal change in the civil rights movement's trajectory.
Sun in the 12th house indicates having a strained relationship with the dad and can indicate getting lost on your path in life more often than others. This placement often plagues the person with self-doubt and an inability to take action even after everything is planned. More often than not, I see this placement in people who work as ghostwriters where they are detached from the outcome of their words/ideas/identity. These people do well in supporting roles even though they usually wish to take a central role- they usually do later in life.

Sidon in Totk and why it's a problem
Let's talk about this. Spoilers for TOTK. This is an off-brand, slightly more serious post.
Here's a TLDR:
1. Sidon fills a niche few other characters in LoZ fill
2. Nobody expected SidLink to be canon
3. Sidon's fiancé felt shoehorned in and served no purpose other than pissing people off.
First of all: As someone who has been playing LoZ games for a long time, there have been very, very few options for attractive male-presenting/male characters. And before you say that LoZ is not a romance game or meant for people to be thirsty, please understand that there is an obscene amount of explicit content for nearly every attractive female/female-presenting character. Ffs, there's a Zelda for all the season. There's Midna, Din, Ilia, Ruta, Mipha. When players were into these characters- and believe me, doesn't matter if the game isn't a dating sim, they were- they weren't shamed for them. Sidon gave players this option, but since Sidon is a guy and the part of the Fandom that likes him is predominantly female or queer, it's suddenly a problem. And yes, maybe the fans are more fiesty than the rest, but can you blame us? How long have we waited?
Secondly, I see the Fandom split with one side in mourning and the other side celebrating in news of Sidon's fiancé. I've seen quite a few posts- some here, but a lot on reddit- shaming Sidon fans and Sidlink fans. Considering that we live in the world that we do, I'm pretty sure everyone knew that Sidlink would never be canon. It was still fun and gave players something to look forward to and attach themselves to. You can take your puritanical high ground that Sidlink is "annoying" and never call yourself homophobic or fragile, but there's no reason to hate a whole subgroup like that. We can just pretend that Zelda wasn't a bunch of people's sexual awakenings. Imagine your ship being canon (ZeLink) and still bashing on non-canon ships. Fuck right off.
Lastly, Sidon getting a fiancé served no purpose. She has never existed before in any game and has virtually no connection except for the shoehorned exposition dump in Sidon's diary. Even from a game development standpoint, why would you slit the throat of your cash cow? You had to put in so little in like a few lines of dialogue and 1 or 2 cutscenes, and you cultivated a massive following. So, is this your version of slash-and-burn because the "wrong" people liked LoZ for the "wrong" reasons?

I think advice for fic ans art often overlap and so, seeing the way you encourage others in their writing often makes feel super more motivated to create art the way I want to ♡
Like I've been feeling a little paralyzed after leaving my last 2 fandoms (mostly due to just apathy and depression) since the things I want to create now are so sparse and so niche. I lost basically the whole audience i spent years cultivating cause my brain chemicals got fucked. But the way you write makes me feel like maybe it's worth just keeping on, even if its separate from considering any audience I do or dont have, or will have.
To just create when and if I want to, and to be less anxious about it.
Thank you so much anon! And I'm so glad ❤️
I definitely know the funk that can come over you when your brain is not cooperating, and it really is difficult to exist in online creative spaces without an audience. That's a lonely place to be, and even more so when depression rears its ugly head.
I hope you do create the art that inspires you and makes you happy. Do it in a way that works for you, when it works for you. And if you start feeling anxious again, remember that I'm rooting for you!

ok so the thing about Beyonce performing in Israel and Taylor Swift remaining dead silent is that part of being an ultra mega star is having a wide appeal right? Can you have such a wide appeal if you actually stand for something? These people aren’t just people they’re Brands and having a political stance will alienate some people which is bad for the brand. This applies to all celebrities not just megastars but I think smaller celebrities with more niche audiences in a way actually have less to lose when they say something like if you’ve cultivated a certain type of audience you don’t have to worry about alienating your centrist or conservative fans if you don’t have any centrist or conservative fans. Mega celebs are corporate entities and all of the other corporations are either on the side of hegemonic power (pro Israel) or remaining silent as to not alienate anyone

Do you have pets? a tortoiseshell menace named ahsoka/snips/snippy/sniperella/baby
How tall are you? 5'7"/170cm, tho if i'm not wearing like. Statement Shoes™ with a heel, i am almost always wearing my black boots that add another 2 inches or so. no matter what i usually have a tall vibe hehe
Favorite subject in school? did very well in school and i am litr on my second graduate degree lmao so i'll be honest i love school (it is how i managed to evade an adhd diagnosis until my late 20s like catherine zeta-jones and those lasers)
Dream job? shout out to a mantra of all time: i simply do not dream of labor. BUT it has occurred to me a lot lately that i actually would have been a great production designer because it's basically Vibe Setting as a job and requires 2 things i love: research and continuity

An Open Letter to the Danger Days Tumblr Community:
Now that you’ve read that overdramatic title and are wondering who fucked up, I have something to say about the Danger Days Tumblr community: I Love You.
Danger Days was the first fandom I ever posted for on any site. All the way back in middle school (ho-ly shit). And let me tell you what I found out even way back when: this is not an easy fandom to be in.
For one, most people don’t even know it exists. For two, even less know it in the way it’s been cultivated on Tumblr. Almost every single person has such a niche interpretation of every little detail, that it’s impossible to draw a line through any two versions of the story. Which is a fact I personally love, but I also think it scares a lot of people away. You have to work to be in this fandom. Both as a passive and active fan. It requires patience and tolerance for disappointment.
But that’s exactly why I want to encourage everyone who creates and everyone who listens to Keep Doing That. Like I cannot stress this enough, that is what keeps this fandom and IP alive. Danger Days as a universe would be absolutely nothing without fan work (re: the California Comics), especially a decade later. Without fans who care about this story way more than it has warranted us to care, it would be six feet under. And sometimes I really think that’s what it deserves (and maybe the writers think that as well), but for the life of me I just can’t let that happen. I’ve tried to let this fucking thing go, believe me.
And funny enough, that exact feeling is evidenced by the community on this site too. Which has changed faces almost completely from what it was three years ago for better and less better in some cases. And it’s something I still struggle with adjusting to, but I look at the tag daily. I look everyone’s posts and blogs and art and effort. If you have posted even once in the dd tag my eyes have 100% seen it. So even if I still feel a little out of place, like a ghost of fandom’s past, at least I know everybody. And I know people feel the same way: No rest for the wicked.
When I reanimated from my fandom coma I was fully expecting to find that the community had gone extinct. Partially because all the blogs I used to frequent had straight up died in the three years I was gone. But I pulled up to the gates of the Danger Days tag like Rick Grimes outside of Alexandria, fully expecting to be devastated, only to find New People tilling the fucking field. And it didn’t matter that I now had no idea who any of you people were, it was The Most welcoming thing ever.
I’ll be the first to tell you this fandom bares almost no resemblance to the one I left, and I’m not going to lie and say it’s better now, but the foundation didn’t get blown away in the storm. That’s what I find uniquely profound. That everyone here still wants to try. And that makes me really want to try. And I’m sure everyone would agree that there is often little reward for the effort; but that’s precisely my point in saying all this shit. That even despite the not fun aspects, we all still clock in; and there’s a new post, headcanon, drawing, or fic every freaking day. It’s commendable, really.
If you’re lurking, or post sometimes but feel afraid to actually take a leap here because (the fandom is comparatively tiny to the greater MCR fandom) you’ll be way more out there, and the already established figureheads of the fandom will definitely see your stuff: post post post. This is my formal endorsement to Just Post That Shit. And Interact With That Shit. I spent a year gathering the courage to publish the tiniest thing while behind the scenes I literally wrote about 60+ works. You have to respect your own creativity and trust that other people will give it the time of day.
So do not feel crazy or discouraged about your ideas here! Like we literally need them to function, I would not be here if it wasn’t for all the people three years ago who just posted all their thoughts about Danger Days. About everything. Obscure or not. It’s truly a gift that this fandom has attracted people who are willing to work their brains because the original creators let it fall flat. I cannot tell you how much being in this fandom has actually helped me out in my writing and analysis skills.
So yeah. I fucking love this fandom, I love being in it and I love seeing that people are still stoking the flames. I wanted to say all this crap because I knew I’d be able to articulate it for the people who can relate but don’t want to be the first to say it. Which is okay, understandable. As I said earlier this fandom is like yelling your thoughts out into a very echoey room that only has a few people in it. So I’ll shout first and maybe it’ll make other people more comfortable to shout back.

I have a worldbuilding question that might be too cultural for your expertise, but any point of view can help.
We have a deep canyon that amplifies every gust of wind to almost instantly lethal speed. There's only one bridge crossing it (that we know of), with twin cities at each side, which started out as both trading posts and settlements for the bridge repair team. As such, they always were heavily technology focused, even more so after legendary First Engineers built domes protecting the cities from the wind.
Question 1: how big of a city can safely rely on vertical gardens?
Question 2: how would you imagine them parting with their dead? For the physical aspect I can see air burials using niches in the canyon walls, making a weather forecaster the most important part of burial rites. But that means disposing of the body in the first windless moment available. There can't be any festivities planned around it. Would they even want to gather together to say their last goodbyes though? Would they throw one last party for their dying beloved? Or gather around the corpse while it's waiting for the burial time? Or do nothing at all, since the person's worth is in their accomplishments, and these won't vanish?
Ohh, this is very interesting! Let me try.
Of course the food question depends on your technology level. From what you've told me, the canyon itself is uninhabitable. My first idea was to make terrace farming on the canyon walls with pumps bringing water from the river at the bottom (if there is one) but the winds would make that hard or impossible. Low tech vertical gardening would involve stacking 'shelves' of plants and pumping water up in a cycle through pipes; for extra protein and food production, the water would be recycled with pools of fish, crustaceans and other edible creatures. This is called aquaponics, and you can extract quite a bit of food from it. The limiting factor here is sunlight.
These structures WOULD be made facing the sun to have the best possible growth. Architects and city planners WOULD priorize sunlight as an advantage, in a way that sunlight will determine land ownership. Perhaps more wacky systems involved mirrors might be possible, especially in an engineering-focused culture. However, I don't see aquaponics being enough to cultivate cereals which are the base of human agriculture, except for perhaps rice, and not in the same amount of having cultivated expanses of land. I see cities like this being a net importer of food, but certainly they would try to produce it too. In fact, these methods of food production might be part of the city identity.
You could also supplement this with raising semi-wild aerial creatures like pigeons, the top of the buildings might be used for that. Palomares in Iberia, and to a lesser extent in Latin America, were once very widespread not because of the food (neither pigeons or their eggs are very tasty AFAIK) but because of pigeon guano used as fertilizer. It's a very smelly, dirty job that is nearly extinct nowadays. You could imagine other kind of fantasy creatures that are fliers and more easy to eat. Another more wild option are insects; rooftop beehives are common in the US lately, but raising insects for food is something often unexplored.
The more high-tech solution is of course to replace the sun with electric lamps. Now, what you need for this is a constant energy source. You have one, of course: Wind. Wind turbines could be geared to produce energy to create indoor automated vertical agriculture. You can see current attempts though to see how expensive and resource consuming this is, so it would have to justify itself against more low-tech attempts and the easiest way of just importing food. And of course, if winds are inconsistent, there will be competition for power between the indoor farms and the rest of the city.
Both systems, of course, imply HEAVY consumption of water and manpower, one to maintain the system itself, the other for the machinery. That would be your limiting factor, where does the water come from, and who are the people who work in these food-production systems? This might be key to your society here.
Now, about funerary rites, there are two things that came to mind when you mentioned this, the sky burials in Tibetan and Caucasian cultures (WARNING: graphic pictures) and the similar "towers of silence" in Zoroastrianism, they have in common the fact that they let the body exposed to the elements to be eaten by carrion birds. Well, actually three. The Chachapoyas in the Andes also did deposit their dead in remote, VERY remote cliff niches (here are some articles about it: 1, 2). We unfortunately don't know their exact burial rites but it is likely they would have face similar challenges to your culture. The wait between wind and windless periods might also be a cultural factor but I see it more as something more "whispered" than formal, like "that man took so long to be buried, it's clear not even the winds liked him". On the other hand, there's always the option of cremation and scattering to the winds, perhaps less interesting than canyon-side niches, but one I can see very appealing in this culture.
I hope this helped! Feel free to ask me anything you like about worlbuilding!
