hi librarians! i was curious, is there any way to know the TOTAL word count of all the MFMM fics posted on A03? i would love to know how many words of fan fic have been written about our favorite detectives. thanks!
Oh Anon, you are a geek after our own hearts. We can indeed tell you how many words of MFMM fanfic have been posted on AO3…
As at 30 June (when OllyJay last updated her spreadsheet) there were:
2507 fics with a total of 12,502,078 words.
The longest fic has 159,480 words, You Asked For It by @gaslightgallows a collection of drabbles and longer-than-drabbles first posted in September 2014 and was last updated in July 2019. (Also see Drop Dead, Gorgeous (2019) by @flashofthefuse with 157,037 words and Days of Wine and Sunflowers by @seldarius which is a fic originally posted on fanfiction.net in 2014 and has 116,931 words.)
The shortest fic is open to interpretation… Technically, at zero words it would be @ollyjayonline‘s Now We’re Talking (2017) a comic-like 4th wall fic where Nathan and Jack have an internal conversation throughout the three series of MFMM but that is a bit of a cheat as the words are embedded in the pics 🤣😂🤣 A far more deserving holder of this title is @teaandbanjo‘s Quick and Dirty (2018). With 48 words - it really is the shortest possible Phrack smut! (Also whilst researching we found this superb piece of fanart by nisiedraws, A Gay Outing (2017). Enjoy!)

YEAR END REPORT: FFXV RECS
HELLO ALL
First of all, FFXV fandom has been An Experience. I don't know I've ever dived into a fandom right at the start before, and watching this one build itself into what it is has been amazing.
Since March, AO3 tells me I've written about 135K words of FFXV stuff (not counting stuff I've posted elsewhere), and the people I've met that way have been incredible. It is entirely FFXV’s fault that I have made a Tumblr, and an AO3 account, and a few other accounts, and some very good friends. I haven't ever really leapt into a fandom in this way before, and this one has been a heck of a time.
I keep meaning to draw up a fic rec list in some organized, coherent manner, but who am I kidding, so here's a bunch of fics that I haven't stopped yelling about since I read 'em. (For art recs, check my cool fanart reblog tag, or my reblog tag list for specific stuff.)
NOT A COMPLETE LIST AND IN NO ORDER WHATSOEVER:

Scattershot - Riona (T, 1769 words)
Prompto/Noctis (and sort of Prompto/Everyone) ridiculousness. The first thing I remember reading in the fandom, and it still cracks me up.
An Unexpected Match - ohmyfae (M, 16093 words)
Prompto/Noctis and Gladio/Ignis shenanigans as rival sex workers in the same town. I mean, I could rec maybe everything ohmyfae (@faewritesthings) ever writes, really everything, but this one is just?? So good?? All I ever wanted?? It makes me so happy I am still giggling about it
Hunting with Forks and Hope - saisei (T, 3507 words)
Prompto/Ignis and Gladio/Noctis bakery AU, short but totally sweet with a punch of great world-building. A great blind Ignis.
the best-laid plans. - lagunaloire (E, 5912 words)
Ignis/Noctis fuck-or-die in an ancient ruin, formatted wildly, hot, beautiful and totally worth it.
Voyage - teletou (G, 4075 words)
Gladio/Noctis, snapshots of them growing up. Fantastic atmosphere, wonderfully gorgeous, low-key heartbreaking. If you haven't read this author (@navigationilmare)’s stuff, it is breathtaking.
Alternative Fictions - fictionfinding (T, 14478 words)
Gladio/Ignis from Altissia through to the ten-year gap, with some of the most fascinating worldbuilding I might've read in the fandom. This is really just astonishingly good, as is the rest of the author’s work.
The Honor Is Mine - LumaBoop (M, 3268 words)
Ardyn/Gilgamesh from back in the day! Sad and lovely.
Once More - LumaBoop (M, 531 words)
Gladio/Noctis (well, sort of) during the ten year gap. Short and creepy and sad and everything I have ever wanted. This author does creepy so, so well.

OT4. I really can't leave this one off the list. Sex pollen, somehow hot and hilarious and touching all at once. @llagerstatte also writes a lot of really good, really tragic Ignis/Noctis, in case y'know, you feel like crying for a while.

Noctis & Bros. A mythological take on the ending of the game that wrecked me. Really gorgeous, really thoughtful.
