Summary: Wei Ying has a lot on his plate right now. It’s finals week -- which isn’t so bad. He’s never had to study much to do well in classes. But that just means that things are that much more tense with Jiang Cheng, who, as far as Wei Ying can tell, only takes study breaks long enough to glare at Wei Ying where he sits on the couch playing video games. It’s not studies that have Wei Ying stressed out. It’s everything else. It’s the recruitment for the research trial he’s coordinating. It’s jiejie and her impending marriage to His Royal Douchebag Jin Zixuan. It’s the volunteer work at the palliative care facility. It’s Wen Ning’s worsening condition. It’s Wen Qing working herself thin to care for her brother and Wen Yuan. It’s the way Wen Yuan never seems to have enough food. So, yeah. There’s enough on Wei Ying’s plate already, meaning it’s not entirely welcome when he comes home and finds a man standing in his bedroom. A man in extravagant white robes, a ribbon tied around his forehead, long hair gathered into a topknot, fist clutching a sword at his side, who asks him, “Where am I?”

Mojo's comments: Wei Ying tells himself, there’s no way that he has done something as stupid as fallen for a time-travelling, dimension-hopping wizard in just two weeks of acquaintance. It’s unthinkable. Wei Ying might be stupid, but even he’s not that stupid. Narrator's voice: Wei Ying apparently IS that stupid. … This is an epic story in which canon lwj appears in a modern wwx's room one night. Wwx is a down-on-his-luck college student slipping into even harder times and intrigue, but he's got a heart of gold and immediately sets about helping this strange (and very attractive) wizard. (He can fly, omg!!!) The story's focus is on both their growing relationship (oh, the tension! the slow burn!) and on the mysteries that keep being revealed in both worlds, like tips of icebergs. Author notes that this is not a fix it, which is probably to prepare you for copious amounts of angst and bad choices and misunderstandings (although at least no one is dead for 13 years!). A whole new story, with dimension travel and a strategically striking qi-stealing illness is cleverly woven in with plot points from canon to create something both recognizable and fresh.

(I know, I know, I don't usually do ship prompts that aren't TheRuFumi/RaruFumi,but, I wanted to do something different this time and I randomly remember this meme from a tv show that instantly made me think of this ship XD. Plus, it should be known that I am a massive multi-shipper. I always got a few ships for every fandom i'm in & after reading "The Reprise of The Spear Hero", the inner shipper just went brrr. Feel free to ignore this post. this is mostly for me :) )

Naofumi: So if you take a look here, you'll see i've drawn up a complete work schedule, which lays out exactly when we'll be working together on that report.

Motoyasu: A work schedule?

Naofumi: Yes. It's color-coded so even you can understand it!

Motoyasu: Wait a second, what's this here? We're working 3 hours a night for the next four weeks!?

Naofumi: Well, I thought four hours a night might be too much for your smallish brain to handle.

Motoyasu: My smallish brain can handle plenty! It's my smallish eyes that are gonna have trouble cause they gotta look at you! Yeah! I said it!

Naofumi: Well actually, the human eyes are technically just receptors that pick up visual images which make no sense until deciphered by the brain. Which in your case happens to be smallish. :)

Motoyasu: Why do you have to one-up me all the time!? What? Do you just get your jollies by making me look dumb!?

Naofumi: Who said I think your dumb!? Maybe, I happen to think you're very smart! Maybe I just-!

Motoyasu: Well maybe, you just what!?

Naofumi: Maybe, I just like you!

Motoyasu: Well ma-!...*Processing* *Realization* *Blushing*...Well, maybe I just like you too!

Naofumi: Oh really?

Motoyasu: Yeah! Maybe i've liked you for a really long time, but didn't realize it, cause, I hated you so much!

Naofumi: Are you saying you like me or not?

Motoyasu: Are YOU saying you like me or not?

Naofumi: I'm saying I like you!

Motoyasu: Well then, i'm saying I like you!

Naofumi: FINE!

Naofumi: Then I guess we're boyfriends!

Soobin thought he'd never see famous senior, Choi Yeonjun, ever again. But fate always loved playing with him. Crushing on your best friend + Being single was enough, but then add a really cute senior into the mix?

It’s gonna be a long year.

Review:

I stopped reading fics for a while as I felt a little detached from this ship. So when I felt nostalgic for yeonbin again, instead of going to read new fics, i turned to the classics. And this one is a classic. One of those fics that everyone in the fandom probably already knows but for good reason. This fic is 70k words of slow burn, pining, misunderstandings, unrequited love, and fluff. This fic is basically hand crafted to check off all the things I like to read.

It is a continuation of a short fic the author posted and wanted to expand. It’s called Just One Kiss. I would highly recommend reading that first, its quick and cute and yeonbin make out at a kissing booth. Super cute!

This fic revolves around Yeonjun who is pining after Soobin. Who happens to be in love with his best friend Hueningkai. Yeonjun tries not to fall in love with him and fails and the whole time he’s trying to be Soobin’s friend all while hurting himself because he can see just how much Soobin loves kai.

I think what I love most about it is how cozy it is. It’s a university au, their friend circle is small. This was written in 2020 so it still has that cute puppy love feel to it without the reality of yeonbin divorce in 2021.

Over all, it is a slow burn. You get taken into Yeonjun’s life trying to navigate a blooming friendship while trying to succeed in his university dance group and trying to avoid his feelings. So despite it taking a while for yeonbin to get together, you’re left with a fic about friendship and what it means to talk through your feelings.

I love fics like this where you get taken into their world and by the end, despite it being a happy ending, you feel so sad because you have to say goodbye to the characters.

And the best part, beomgyu and taehyun are a side ship. I feel like a lot of taegyu fics are angsty so I always love to see writers put them as a cute couple in love in the background.

a silly, funny, feelsy college AU with Much Pining of the mutual variety. heavily inspired by my undergrad university and one of its very particular traditions. in which ed is a musician on the verge of fame and stede starts his own fraternity, because of course he does. cw: jack rackham and the kind of language you’d expect him to use. rated t.

The bitch of it is that Jack actually is right, or at least he’s not completely wrong. Nothing is going to happen if Ed can’t even grow his balls enough to talk to Stede. But what Jack doesn’t know, what someone like him couldn’t possibly understand, is what makes that something Ed doesn’t dare risk.

He just wants it. So fucking much. Ed doesn’t think he’s ever wanted anything in his life as much as he wants Stede Bonnet. Wants to fuck him, sure—Ed really, really wants to fuck him, in fact—but it’s so much more than that. He wants to be the centre of Stede’s attention. He wants those bright hazel eyes focused on him and him alone. He wants to hold Stede’s interest. He wants to be Stede’s friend.

And Ed suspects, down in the deepest part of his heart where he keeps all his fears and insecurities locked tightly away, that he’s just not interesting enough for someone like Stede. How could he be? He’s nothing but his music. That’s the only thing of value anyone has ever seen in him. He’s got nothing to offer that a guy like Stede would want.

It’s just—Stede’s so bright. So colourful and carefree. Ed knows he comes from money and he definitely has that sort of spit-and-polish look that rich guys get, but he doesn’t use his wealth to big himself up like most of them do. Instead, he buys a fucking house like that’s something totally normal for a nineteen-year-old, and he turns it into a fraternity for people who got rejected from the other houses. The frat of misfit toys, Jack proclaimed it, and Ed’s aware that that’s the prevailing opinion, but he just thinks it’s really fucking cool.

No one else out there is doing things like Stede Bonnet. Stede just fucking does what he likes, like the rules that keep Ed trapped don’t even touch him. Like they don’t even fucking exist.

“So many fraternities are needlessly exclusionary,” Ed once overheard him explaining to a group of freshmen. “They reject people for the most idiotic reasons. And their hazing rituals, well. They’re just downright abusive. And everyone acts like that’s okay because oh, ‘that’s just how it is’ or ‘that’s how it’s always been done’ but my thinking is: why? Why do frats have to be mean and hurtful? Why can’t they just be fun?”

Looking back, Ed can pinpoint that as the moment he became hopelessly fascinated by Stede Bonnet.
