Summary: On a mission into Separatist space, Rex loses his entire squad except for one - and gains a friend who leads him through the labyrinth of grief to a brighter day.

I'm so happy to finally introduce this poor doomed squad to you: from left to rigth that's Rain, Amber, Rex (obviously), Bug, Whiplash and Clear. And you'll just have to read the fic to learn the name of the curious fluffball who's trying to befriend them ;)

With @xylionet as our wonderful beta for the story (and who also tirelessly cheered us on) we made up Team 16 for the @clonebang! I loved working with them so much! <3

Summary: The war is over and Niner and Darman have rejoined the rest of Omega at Kyrimorut. Niner struggles to make sense of why the idea of marriage is so unappealing to him, his place within his squad in peacetime, and his rapidly cooling opinion of Kal Skirata.

“It’s good to have you back,” Corr says and hugs Niner firmly enough that he can feel it hard even through his armour.

It’s good to be back, even if it doesn’t quite feel like back. The swaying grass and promised domesticity feels like stepping off a larty and realising his chute is jammed. He’s not sure he belongs here. He is sure he belongs with his squad, and they wanted to come here.

Not that staying with the Empire was all that appealing either.

Fi tilts his head and looks over the reuniting couple. Dar’s put her down but they’re still not finished greeting each other. Is kissing supposed to be that loud?

“Years since we talked properly and he’s too busy licking her tonsils to even say hello,” Fi grumbles good-naturedly. “What’s a vod need to do to get a hug around here?”

“You aren’t as pretty as she is,” Corr says, and elbows Fi. Fi squawks in protest. Atin looks at Niner and then rolls his eyes in a way that suggests this is a dynamic that Niner better get used to. Niner’s just glad they’re getting along; it could have gone very differently.

Skirata appears without the limp that Niner so associates with him. His arrival is enough to finally part Darman and Etain. Skirata clasps Darman’s shoulder, and Darman’s back straightens as little as he’s guided over to Niner and the others.

“It’s good to have you both back,” Skirata says, and then looks at Niner. “You had us worried, son.”

Niner nods, and feels his own posture correcting itself. It feels like a light scolding, like the ones he used to get back on Kamino. Not the sort when he’d truly screwed up, but when Skirata was loudly disappointed at him.

Etain hovers close by, Skirata between her and Darman.

“It’s good to see you again, ma’am,” Niner says to her. Skirata's smile slips and Niner ignores it.

Etain smiles, and it’s a far cry from the tentative sort of smiles she used to give when they’d met on Qiilura; she’s grown a lot. “Etain,” she corrects him.

“Etain,” he repeats.

“We should get you boys settled in,” Skirata says. “I’m sure the Empire wasn’t feeding you.”

“I don’t mind rations,” Darman says. He manages to get around Skirata and takes Etain’s hand. “But I wouldn’t mind getting settled.” He hesitates, the loud kind of hesitation that has Fi pulling a face that no one but Niner can see. “How’s Kad?”

“He’s—” Etain starts.

“Looks just like you, son,” Skirata says. “He’s with Besany. I’m sure he’ll be delighted to see you.”

“You should come meet Parja,” Fi says, falling into step besides Niner, following after Darman and Skirata, with Etain awkwardly a step behind the pair. “She’s great. You’ll love her.”

“If she’s keeping you in line I’m sure we’ll get along fine,” Niner says, and it’s enough to have Fi launching into a rambling monologue about his wife. Niner’s happy for him. He is. Fi’s got everything he wanted, and he deserves that. That’s three of them married now, and with how much women seem to love Corr it’ll probably be four sooner rather than later.

Niner’s not sure where that leaves him.

Fives died in the chip conspiracy. So Echo wakes up after the Techno Union missing half his body and his partner.

At least until he realises he can see and speak to ghosts!

To find the evidence to reveal the chip conspiracy once and for all, Echo must team up with the Bad Batch. But he doesn't expect to find love, or a new place for himself along the way.

This is my submission for Clone Bang 2023- a fic I've been working on for months now, and I'm sooo excited to finally be posting it. Please mind the tags below the cut.

This fic’s core idea came from this post by @cloned-eyes, which posits what would have happened if Mayday had survived and he and Crosshair bailed together but don’t rejoin the Batch immediately. I took that and rolled with it.

On a sigh, Mayday admitted, “Wrong. We’re deserters anyways, I guess I can just say that. And even if the order was to execute them…why…” He hesitated, struggling. “They lead us for years. Didn’t that mean anything?”

Those clones served alongside General Billaba for years. How could they turn on her like that?

Echo’s voice rang out in Crosshair’s mind. It had been like a warning bell to him back then; it was a relief to hear it now and know what it (hopefully) meant.

“No. Because of the chip.”

Mayday glanced up, eyes narrow. “What?”

“The inhibitor chip.” Crosshair tapped the spot on his head where the ion scarring remained. “Biotech implanted in us by the Kaminoans.”

Mayday went rigid. “Biotech.”

“It’s how they could ensure we’d follow any orders given.” Even horrific ones.

Mayday’s fingers tightened on his canteen, eyes scanning the floor in disbelief. “That—that can’t—” The denials were half-hearted at best, not even fully formed. Crosshair continued, undeterred.

“You said it yourself. Order 66 didn’t make sense. Why didn’t we arrest them? Why weren’t they put through due process?” Traitors don’t deserve due process, the chip would have assured him.

Mayday looked up at him, new understanding lighting his expression with horror. “You mean—you—”

Nausea threatened. Crosshair fought it down. “I tried to.”

“Tried.”

“He escaped.”

Echo seemed certain this might work. Hunter… isn’t, but it’s the only chance they have. And they have to try. There’s nothing he wouldn’t be willing to try. Nothing he wouldn’t be willing to do.

Anything, so they can get Omega back.

She gave them purpose. They were supposed to take care of her – they would do anything for her. They would die for her.

They… did.

Tech did.

Any of them would’ve done it.

And it feels like a part of him died there, too. Wrecker is the only one of the brothers he grew up with who he has left. Tech… used to be the middle. He always was. Now, it’s Hunter. Even if he’s still – somehow – supposed to be their leader.

He feels… empty. The Marauder is quiet, too quiet.

It would be easier if Tech was here. At least that way, everything would make a small amount of sense. They hadn’t even had time to grieve or process before they lost Omega, too.

So, when Echo suggested they go to this now-abandoned Republic base, despite the potential dangers, Hunter didn’t think twice. But now that he’s here, now that he’s inside – he left Echo and Wrecker with the ship, so he could scout out alone, just in case – he knows something’s wrong. He can’t even say what it is, but it’s… something.

He senses it, that energy is pooling to center at a point in… the middle of the room, which doesn’t make sense.

Something in the darkness is shimmering red. If Omega were here, Hunter would tell her to stay back, because it looks… dangerous. He knows it is, but after… after, he can’t even care about that anymore – not so long as they take the chance they have.

He should hold back, should wait. Something is… wrong.

Hunter knows that, so he doesn’t know why he moves forwards, anyway. He can almost hear Tech’s voice in his mind, telling him to be careful, that this is dangerous, and they don’t know anything about the Jedi’s Force abilities, or whatever this object is.

But in the end, he can’t change the past. He can’t turn back time. He can’t… bring them back.

Tech should have been here with them. He would have been, if Hunter hadn’t let them go in blindly after Crosshair. Because for all that they want their little brother back, this isn’t about what they want. It’s about survival.

It’s about Omega. It’s always about Omega.

And in that hope-driven moment, he let himself forget that.

They lost Tech for that. They lost…

Everything.

And there is nothing he wouldn’t do to get them all back.

The energy in the room is shifting, pulsing. The object is… radiating energy. It’s gathering, whirling around it in a violent storm, and…

Hunter doesn’t really remember what happened next.

Although, Crosshair was equally looking forward to getting on the mats with the reg that clocked him in the face on the mission to rescue Echo. Really looking forward it. -- Crosshair was just expecting a nice visit to Coruscant, to visit with his aliit for a little bit before heading back out into the war and the battles and the constant threat of death. He was expecting to find out something about his buir and his batch that would lead to a malicious mystery that could very well shake the foundations of the Republic. But it happened anyway.

THE SCENT OF EMBERS LINGERS IN THE AIR

aka @clonebang team 31 and my (delayed) contribution to this. My job was to make one art for this very very interesting story by @elthadriel , so I decided to do poster. Yes, again.

This is not very quality photo, but the scan looks even worse. I blame the Empire and their horrible fashion sense of black on black.

Anyway, slight spoilers for a story:

The important part of the story is, of course, Cody, that's why he's in the middle and the biggest part of the poster. Behind him are the empire crest and rebellion symbol, which would meet on the poster right where cody is standing, and which are, in the story, meeting via cody and in cody in his double agenting.

A big part of cody's motivation in the story is rex and his death. That's why we have his jaig eyes behind cody's head. Haunting him.

Another important part of the story is ahsoka and barriss, a conflict of the empire vs. rebellion. That's another reason to have their logos on the poster, and why we have fighting ahsoka and barriss in the foreground, on the sides of their symbols.

Summary: They’ve gone through eight Imperial bases in the last fifteen days, but Echo, Hunter, and Wrecker won’t stop, not until they find Omega and bring her back. But on the ninth base, they walk into a trap. Echo doesn’t know what to make of the dark-armored cyborg waiting for them, or his insistence on helping once he hears about Omega. And why does he seem so familiar?

Excerpt

“Where are Crosshair and Tech?” the cyborg answers, but it sounds like a genuine, confused, curious question. Not mockingly, the way Echo would have expected from an Imperial.

And that doesn’t make any sense.

Why would he care? Why would he ask? Echo’s eyes narrow. He’s a Sith, and he’s Imperial. What game is he playing?

Hunter’s hands tighten over his blaster at the mention of their names, and Wrecker outright snarls, about to lunge at him. Echo steps forwards, pointedly positioning himself in front of Wrecker, half defensively and half to keep Wrecker from doing something that would get himself killed.

“Why do you endanger yourselves coming here?” the cyborg asks, when no one replies.

The sheer oddness of the question strikes Echo the most. ‘Endanger’? As if the Empire doesn’t want them here, to trap them and kill him, as if the Sith, whoever he is, wasn’t sent here to kill them.

“What does it matter to you?” Hunter throws back sharply, fingers twitching towards his vibroblade. “You’re going to try and kill us regardless of our reason.”

“I know you do not take risks without reason,” the cyborg says, “So I merely question what has happened which has led you to do this.” He pauses, extinguishing the lightsaber, though he keeps the hilt in his hand. “What has been done to you?”

[drum roll] It's here! I have posted the first two chapters of my @clonebang 2023 podfic. I worked with the incredible @ahsokastechie as a team on this project! Much much much appreciation to our third team member, @honeykiwis, who beta'ed the fic as well.

The fic is rated Mature and the written work can be found here.

It features the relationship between Tech/Phee, with background Crosshair/Mayday, and a lot about the Bad Batch crew as a family.

It's a High School Teachers AU!

Summary:

Tech has just been assigned a collaboration partner for Pabu High’s Steam Literacy and Understanding Taskforce - another item piled on his plate by an incompetent administration. His partner? Phee Genoa, an unknown variable who challenges him to see the world differently.
