In episode Rookies we can see clone troopers listen to space!radio during their downtime. What if clones stationed in the quieter outposts listened to it so much they had plenty of eclectic inside jokes made out of commercial breaks adverts?

There are many reasons why Mayday's death is tragic, but the biggest one is that now he will never be able to bully Crosshair about the 'dead weight' comment and how it was total BS.

Tell Me You Won't Go

A/N: SPOILERS AHEAD. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED. (okay now back into hiatus I go lol. Just fell immediately in love with this man. Sorry!)

“And how long will you be gone to Barton-4?” You ask Mayday as he’s slowly packing his bag.
You know he’s not anymore thrilled about this desolate frozen planet than you are.
“I’m… not sure…” He pauses his packing before looking up at you. “A while… They think possibly up to a year.”
“May… that’s… That’s a long time.” You murmur, sitting crossed legged on the end of your bed, your elbow on your knee, and your chin in your hand.
Mayday’s expression softens and you feel bad for sounding so needy. But you’ve been seeing each other for about a year now, no labels, nothing. You need to know where you stand. Sure, he’s a commander in the GAR, but to you, he’s just Mayday. You don’t care about ranking.
When he walks toward you, the commander in him is gone. It’s just you and him.
“Tell me then.” He murmurs, softly, gently cupping your face, leaning in close, your lips almost touching.
“Tell you what?” You ask, looking up at him through your lashes.
You know what he’s asking. You know him like you know the back of your hand and then some. He’s the only person you’ve ever known like this. And he knows you just as well. Doesn’t make it any easier, though… Does it?
“Tell me you love me.” He smirks.
“I…” You murmur.
You do. You love him. You really fucking do. Why can’t you just say it?
“See, you can’t even tell me how you feel.” He chuckles, softly.
“Well, you haven’t said it either.” You shrug.
He rolls your eyes. “Always so difficult.”
“Am I?” You tease, lightly.
He pushes you back on the bed and you can’t help but laugh as you scoot up toward the head of your bed. “Oh, mesh’la. You and I both know you are.”
He crawls up to you, hovering over you, smiling down at you.
“I’m not gonna say it first.” You whisper as his lips find his way to your throat.
“So, you do love me.” He hums, nipping slightly, making you squirm underneath him.
His fingers trail to the edge of your panties, his finger brushing along the inside, sending a trail of fire across your pelvic area.
“And you love me.” You sigh.
“Damn right I do.” He slides his fingers over your sensitive, clothed warmth and you let out a small gasp that trials into a whimper. “I love you so much, it’s ridiculous.”
“H-how ridiculous?” Your eyes close and he leans in close to your ear so that his breath leaves a ghost of a whisper just below it.
“Let me show you?” He kisses your neck and you nod, eagerly.
Mayday slides your panties down your legs and tosses them to the end of the bed. Your legs automatically fall open for him and he smiles down at you proudly.
“Look at me, cyare.” He kisses your lips so lightly that you almost miss it.
You open them just in time to see him slide his fingers into his mouth, making your own lips fall open slightly, clearly turned on by the sight. When he trails those same fingers down to your wet warmth, your eyes follow them, biting your lip.
“No, baby. Eyes on me. I wanna see your face perfectly as you fall apart for me.” He tells you.
Who are you to deny a commander?
He slides his fingers through your wet folds, and the groan that leaves your lips is something he knows he’ll think about every night while he’s away. Mayday continues to tease you before sliding a finger into you and your hand flies to his arm to anchor yourself to him. To this moment.
“Stay…” You whisper with pleading eyes.
You don’t even realize the gravity of what you just said before he stops moving his fingers.
“What?” He asks.
“S-stay… here. With me.” You murmur as he pulls his fingers out of you carefully. “Don’t go.”
You know how much trouble he could get into if he were to ever get caught so your next words are planned carefully.
“We can go somewhere. Start a life together.” Your hands slide up to his warm broad chest.
“Mesh’la… I-” He whispers.
“I love you, Mayday.” You tell him. “I… I can’t live without you… and I know what I’m asking is a lot… But I’ll give you the galaxy. I’ll give you anything.”
He sees it right then. What the right choice is. And he’s looking at it… At you.
With a sure smile, he pulls you closer. “I suppose you better start packing too, then.”

All right, since we’ve had yet another week where there is No Tech as CX-2 reveal, and since I was very sleep-deprived last night, here’s my new crack theory, utterly unsupported by any evidence, but WHAT IF:
What if Crosshair was wrong on Barton IV… and Mayday was still barely alive?
What if they both got taken to Tantiss?
What if MAYDAY is CX-2, and that’s why Crosshair was so afraid when he saw the captured clone and knew who was next in line?
You had your chance to be one of us. You chose the wrong side. 😭😭😭

I already put it in the tags, but just in case: SPOILER ALERT FOR TBB SEASON2!!!!

AC: After a misunderstanding with someone requesting this on anon. I decided to write this one now and don't put it in my to-do list first. As a little "apology" because I was pretty rude. Wish I could tag you, but unfortunately you contacted me on anon. Hope you still get to read this 😊
___________________
Actually, you don't work for the Empire. You are an independent contractor, a small business mainly for cargo and logistics. When an Imperial officer contacts you, you are reluctant to take on the job. However, you don't want to upset the Empire either. None of your handful of workers is eager to deliver the cargo for the Empire, especially not to Barton-4, the ice-cold lump of a planet. So you take over the delivery yourself. Food, gasoline, energy packs for flashlights and a new generator for environmental sensors are to be delivered. Even the approach to the imperial station is complicated and dangerous. Fierce crosswinds push your cargo shuttle from all sides and make it difficult to land the ship safely. But you make it anyway. With a sigh, you see the clone troopers coming across the landing platform, who should be unloading the goods. You put on your thermal jacket, zip it up to the top and pull the hood of the jacket over your head, then you open the ramp and see the soldiers already coming towards you. Their equipment doesn't look exactly winterized, some of the men are provisionally wrapped in cloth and skins in addition to their armor. The sight makes you frown. One of them addresses you. "Of course, the Empire is sending civilian transport out here". You blink, then say dryly, "I guess the Empire knows they don't have pilots good enough to land in these weather conditions." You hear a rough laugh from under the clone's helmet, shortly after the soldier removes his helmet and you see an unfamiliar image. You clearly have a clone soldier in front of you, but one with long hair and a full beard, something you haven't seen before. He holds out his hand to you. "I'm Commander Mayday, this is Hexx and Veetch." You shake his hand, the others too, and introduce yourself. "Hi, nice to meet you guys" Maydays laughs again, and you can see a cheeky glint in his eyes. "We'll probably get to know each other a little better, whether you like it or not, the weather has been closing in, changes like this happen practically every minute around here. You're not going to get the shuttle out of here anytime soon." You look down the ramp, over which an icy wind blows into the interior of the shuttle. Outside everything is white, it is snowing, a blizzard, you can barely see two meters. "Fantastic," you say with a dry smile, and begin to help the men unload.
Tumblr media
You have your own little area. But at night, the weather still hasn't cleared, and the cold is even more relentless than during the day. A bit unsure, you make your way out of your little cabin and into the main area, where you find the commander. He is sitting at a heat battery, his helmet lying next to him on a dura steel table. When he hears your footsteps, he looks up. You are still wrapped in your thermal jacket, in this outpost nothing works at all, not even the heating system, which is actually essential for survival. A barely noticeable, gentle smile twitches at the corners of his mouth as your eyes meet. "It's not so easy to fall asleep in this cold, especially when you're not used to it. In fact, it's probably better that way, here in this cold they tend to mistake fatigue for hypothermia. Lost some good men that way". You raise your eyebrows in surprise as well as shock and sit with him, close to the heat battery, across from Mayday. "Wait, that's that serious medical condition in which a person's body temperature falls below the usual level as a result of being in severe cold for a long time? Right?" you ask, frowning. Mayday nods. "Mmm, that's right. The body shuts down, you get very tired, but in reality you die instead of falling asleep." "That's terrible! Why don't you get proper care here? They should have given me more heat batteries and a technician to get your heating system back up to speed. Not even your equipment is intact." Mayday sighs softly and shrugs his broad shoulders, his arms folded in front of his chest, a thick wool blanket draped around his shoulder. "Clone soldiers are expendable, we always have been, but since the Republic was replaced by the Empire, it's worse than ever" Your teeth start to chatter even as you try to suppress it, your whole body keeps shivering as it tries to fight the cold that creeps under your skin despite the thermal jacket. Mayday raises his brows and looks at you. "You're not used to the cold, hmm?" "Not even close," you admit, "I've spent most of my life on Tatooine." Mayday laughed softly, "It's an extreme contrast to Barton-4."
He taps the bench he's sitting on next to him and holds out his blanket invitingly. "If we huddle together, we can keep each other warm. I'm happy to share my blanket with you" For a second you consider if the clone has any ulterior motives, but even if he does, it is so cold you don't care, and he is probably just as cold, probably even too cold for ulterior motives. You walk around the table and sit right next to him, close to the heat battery, and let him put the blanket around your shoulders so that the two of you are finally underneath it. You sit so close to each other that no hand's width fits between you. Your pulse is a little faster and you really feel warmer. However, you are not sure if it is the blanket, the heat battery, or the situation. Slowly, you turn your head to look at him. "Are you okay?" he asks quietly, and you can feel the bass in his voice as you sit so close to each other. "Yeah, it's getting better" He smirks. "Told you so"
You talk for a while. Mayday tells you about his experiences in the war and how he and his men have fared since he was stationed on Barton-4. You sympathize and feel your anger at the Empire flare anew. At a certain point, you are leaning against him, and he has an arm around you. It happened automatically and yet your heart is beating fast. You talk until the sun comes up. As you both look out the window and see that the weather has cleared up considerably, you feel no real relief. You have enjoyed Mayday's company very much, and the fact that this togetherness must inevitably end pleases neither of you. Mayday takes you out to your shuttle on the landing platform. As you say goodbye, you begin to feel a certain longing, which is reflecting in his eyes. On impulse, you kiss his wind-chilled cheek. He blinks in surprise, but he finally smiles at you. "We probably won't see each other again too soon," he says a bit wistfully, with a sad smile. You smile and say, "Maybe we will." As you take off in your shuttle, he watches you for a long time until the shuttle is completely out of his sight, and finally turns back to the outpost with a sigh.
Tumblr media
One week later "Commander! An unannounced shuttle is on approach!" Mayday jumps up, puts on his helmet and asks, "Identification?" "It's the cargo shuttle that was here a few days ago, the civilian freighter". Mayday feels his pulse quicken. "Really?" "Yes, sir." Mayday makes his way out onto the landing platform, alone this time. He doesn't want to greet you in the presence of the others, wants a moment to himself. He's as excited as a young Cadet and doesn't really know how to categorize that feeling. All he knows is that he is looking forward to seeing you again. As the ramp to your shuttle opens, he pulls off his helmet and tucks it under his arm. You smile back at him as you walk down the ramp. "Actually, I can't allow you to land here, not without explicit Imperial permission," he says with a wry smile. "And yet you don't seem to want to chase me away," you return, amused. Mayday admits, "I was looking forward to seeing you again." You smile, feeling your face grow warm despite the cold wind. "I take it the Empire still hasn't provided for you properly?" He shakes his head. "We are expendable, still". You cross your arms in front of your chest and say, "Not for me". Behind you comes an astromech and a cargo droid. "I brought you something" Mayday frowns. "This is not an official delivery by the Empire". You shake your head, confirming his statement. "No, a little something from me and my workers. We chipped in and got you a few things. The cargo droid is to help you with transportation and the astromech is an all-rounder, he can fix your heating system. I also brought half a dozen heat batteries, a few more rations, including caf and tea." Mayday strides up the ramp so that you are finally facing each other halfway up. "Thank you." A simple word, but coupled with the soft expression on his face and the warmth in his voice, this word speaks more than a thousand words. You kiss his cheek again, like last time when you parted. "You deserve it, more than that, actually. But I hope this helps you for a while" Suddenly his hands are on your cheeks and his face comes closer. His lips touch yours. It's not urgent, not challenging, it's tender, slow, and intimate as he kisses you. Your heart almost flips over in your chest. As his lips very slowly, languidly break away from yours, you ask softly, "Would you like me to stay maybe a night or two?" Mayday smiles and replies," Please do."

Clone Bang Sneak Peak
Hello all, this is Team 4 (@niobiumao3 and @flowerparrish) from Clone Bang 2023 with a sneak peak at our work which will be posted at the end of January 2024.
Begin Again
Rating: Teen/Gen (background relationships) No Archive Warnings Apply · Canon-Typical Violence Characters: CT-9904 | Crosshair, Mayday (Star Wars: The Bad Batch), Hunter (Star Wars: The Bad Batch), Tech (Star Wars: The Bad Batch), Omega (Star Wars: The Bad Batch), Wrecker (Star Wars: The Bad Batch), Phee Genoa Relationships: CT-9904 | Crosshair & Mayday (Star Wars: The Bad Batch), CT-9904 | Crosshair & Tech (Star Wars: The Bad Batch), CT-9904 | Crosshair & Hunter (Star Wars: The Bad Batch), background Phee Genoa/Clone Trooper Tech Word Count: 22.1k
Summary Mayday survives at the end of The Outpost. This has a lot of implications for Crosshair, chief among them: what exactly do they do now?
Flee from the Empire, obviously. And if Crosshair continues to not examine his internal turmoil over letting Mayday think Clone Force 99 are all dead when Crosshair knows all too well that they’re alive, that’s Crosshair’s business and no one else’s.
Until their paths cross and it’s everyone’s business, that is.
~*~
This fic’s core idea came from this post by @cloned-eyes, which posits what would have happened if Mayday had survived and he and Crosshair bailed together but don’t rejoin the Batch immediately. I took that and rolled with it.
Podfic by @flowerparrish|ao3 Writing by @niobiumao3|ao3
~*~
[Podfic sneak peak]
On a sigh, Mayday admitted, “Wrong. We’re deserters anyways, I guess I can just say that. And even if the order was to execute them…why…” He hesitated, struggling. “They lead us for years. Didn’t that mean anything?”
Those clones served alongside General Billaba for years. How could they turn on her like that?
Echo’s voice rang out in Crosshair’s mind. It had been like a warning bell to him back then; it was a relief to hear it now and know what it (hopefully) meant.
“No. Because of the chip.”
Mayday glanced up, eyes narrow. “What?”
“The inhibitor chip.” Crosshair tapped the spot on his head where the ion scarring remained. “Biotech implanted in us by the Kaminoans.”
Mayday went rigid. “Biotech.”
“It’s how they could ensure we’d follow any orders given.” Even horrific ones.
Mayday’s fingers tightened on his canteen, eyes scanning the floor in disbelief. “That—that can’t—” The denials were half-hearted at best, not even fully formed. Crosshair continued, undeterred.
“You said it yourself. Order 66 didn’t make sense. Why didn’t we arrest them? Why weren’t they put through due process?” Traitors don’t deserve due process, the chip would have assured him.
Mayday looked up at him, new understanding lighting his expression with horror. “You mean—you—”
Nausea threatened. Crosshair fought it down. “I tried to.”
“Tried.”
“He escaped.”

Welcome to the Outpost: Part 1.1 - Frozen
Fandom: The Bad Batch Characters: Clone Commander Mayday, Clone Trooper Hexx, Clone Trooper Veetch, Additional Clone Troopers Word Count: ~1570 Read Here on AO3
Synopsis: Mayday’s squad of 12 have been on Barton IV for months. When the power in the outpost fails the troopers have to huddle together for warmth – but they can’t forgo perimeter patrols as the power outage also means the sensors have failed.
Tumblr media
“I’ve run every diagnostic I can, Commander. The fault is with an external component. And I can’t replace it until this blizzard dies down.”
Ferox’s breath puffed cloudy in the air of the generator room. Mayday frowned, glancing about the equipment.
“There’s no way to bring the backup generator online?”
“It won’t make a difference. It’s the feed from the generators to the rest of the base that’s the problem. I can repair it, but not in these conditions.”
Mayday nodded reluctantly. The storm had howled in from the mountain pass just before sundown, plunging the outpost into early night; a darkness only enhanced when the lights failed as the power cut out.
“Back to the main depot,” he ordered, pulling his helmet on before heading into the swirling snowstorm outside.
*
Mayday folded his arms and surveyed his squad, clustered tightly round the portable heat generator. “With the perimeter sensors down, we need to manually patrol the depot.”
“It’s not the first time they’ve failed,” muttered Dene. A rumble of discontent greeted his observation.
“I’ll send a request for replacement parts as soon as the power’s back on and we have access to long-range coms again,” promised Mayday. “In the meantime, pair up. I want patrols offset to cover as much of the perimeter at once as we can.”
“Raiders would have to be crazy to be out in a storm like this,” said Veetch with a laugh that rang just a little hollow.
“We’d have to be crazy to be out in a storm like this,” said Telmer disdainfully. “Our gear isn’t designed for cold-weather operations.”
“Insulate it as best you can,” supplied Hexx, stepping to Mayday’s side. “The commander has given you your orders.”
Mayday nodded grimly. “It’s vital we guard this cargo, boys. We all know that. Can’t let an equipment malfunction stop us from doing our jobs properly, can we?”
His voice lifted at the end, just a hint of sarcasm. Identical grins spread across identical clone faces. They all knew the Commander’s thoughts about the dead-end assignment guarding this depot until the cargo was retrieved. Six months on Barton IV had bonded the squad closely, but hadn’t generated any further enthusiasm for the task itself.
The squad broke apart with their usual banter, falling easily into their roles. Geo and Dene took the first patrol. The others dragged bedding from the bunks to the heat generator, their best chance of staying warm without heating in the base.
Hexx clapped a hand to Mayday’s shoulder. “Veetch is right. Raiders’d be mad to be out in this. It’s going to be an uneventful night.”
Mayday huffed a dry chuckle. “I hope you’re right.”
*
“Move over.”
“Geez! You’re freezing.”
“Yeah, it’s snowing out there in case you hadn’t noticed.”
“No, that one had passed me by.”
The grumbling continued as the huddled clone troopers shifted to allow the returning pair into the centre of the pile. From the outer edge two of the troopers peeled away to go and kit up, taking their turn on patrol.
Hexx hissed in displeasure as an ice-cold body pressed against him, dragging him from the edge of sleep.
“Kriff, Veetch! You’re stealing my body heat,” he complained, even as he wrapped his arms round the younger clone to warm him up.
Veetch grinned in the dark through chattering teeth. “I’ll return the favour after your patrol,” he promised as he shivered and tried to make himself comfortable.
Hexx pulled Veetch close to his chest, and on the other side Helix moved closer to try and warm their brother too. Elsewhere in the pile the same was happening to Telmer, Veetch’s partner from patrol.
“Where are Geo and Dene?” rumbled Mayday’s voice, cutting through the shuffling of bodies with his precise question.
“Haven’t seen them, Commander,” said Telmer with a stiff yawn. “They were ahead of us. Assumed they’d be back already.”
Mayday sat up, shadowy in the barely-lit room, running a hand through his hair and beard. “I don’t like this.” Then he was extracting himself from the pile, going to join the two troopers preparing for patrol. “Axis, Atlas, I’m coming with you.”
The two helmeted troopers glanced at each other, then back at the sleep-bedraggled Commander. “They’ve not radioed in for assistance,” said Axis dubiously.
“Yeah,” agreed Atlas. “They probably just went off track in the dark. They’ll be back soon enough when they realise their mistake.”
Mayday was already clipping on armour plates, and their arguments went unheeded.
“The blizzard might be interfering with coms,” said Mayday darkly. “We’ll keep radioing once we’re out there, try and raise them.”
“Yes, Commander,” chorused the two clones.
In the centre of the sleep-pile, Hexx tried to rub warmth back into Veetch’s trembling limbs.
*
Mayday walked the patrol with Axis and Atlas. When they got back, and Geo and Dene still hadn’t returned, he woke the next two patrols. Mayday went out again with Krake and Recon. Helix and Ferox set off in the opposite direction.
Hexx was woken for his patrol. He had been scheduled to go with Mayday anyway.
“You should sleep,” he said quietly as he kitted up. “I’ll take one of the others.”
Mayday shook his head. “I’m worried. I wouldn’t sleep even if I didn’t go out.”
“Then you should stay in and get warm.”
The helmet hid his commander’s expression. His silence was answer enough.
Hexx sighed. “Alright. Let’s get moving.”
*
Hexx had been with Mayday a long time. Almost since the start of the Clone Wars.
He’d been with him since they were both just troopers – brothers in arms. Watched him rise through the ranks, and followed him loyally the entire time. They had lost other brothers along the way. That was part of life for a clone trooper. But somehow, he had always managed to stick close to Mayday.
He’d been at Mayday’s side when The Order came in, and the Commander had gunned down their Jedi General in cold blood.
After that, they had been assigned to the Barton IV outpost. The new squad was made up of clone troopers like them; the last of their units, dregs of squads slain and fractured during the upheaval as the Republic was re-ordered into the new Galactic Empire.
Axis and Atlas were batchmates, together since birth as far as anyone could tell. Geo, Krake and Dene had served together before, as had Ferox and Recon. Telmer and Helix were both the last survivors of their previous squads, but they fitted in well enough.
Veetch was the youngest, barely out of Kamino before the Clone Wars had ended and he had found himself shunted here, to the far end of nowhere. He put up with the teasing good naturedly. Being everyone’s vod’ika came with its perks – the others all looked out for him.
He reminded a lot of them of brothers they had lost.
It looked like it was Veetch’s turn to find out what losing a brother was like. Mayday hadn’t said as much, but Hexx knew a lot of what Mayday didn’t say.
The storm was easing now, midnight’s snow-blindness passing as the flakes fell less thickly. It would still be a couple of hours before dawn painted the sky beyond the mountains steel-grey; for now his and Mayday’s torches flashed over the fresh snowfall, and every few minutes Mayday tried the com again.
“Geo. Dene. Come in. Report.”
“Patrol unit, status check.”
“Dene. Geo. Answer me. Come in.”
Hexx trudged a few steps ahead of Mayday, cutting a channel into the deep snow for him. He hadn’t commented when Mayday took them beyond the perimeter sensors for their patrol; just took the lead and did what was needed to support the Commander.
“Geo, Dene, report.”
“What do we do with the bodies?” Hexx asked.
Mayday’s answer was slow and rough. “What?”
“When we find them,” said Hexx quietly. “The ground is too solid for a burial. We don’t have fuel for cremation.”
They trudged on in silence. Mayday didn’t reply.
Nor did he try to com the missing patrol.
*
It was mid-morning before Ferox got the power back online. The sensor beacons pulsed back to life, red lights lazily circling.
The heating in the depot didn’t come back on.
Recon was the one who found Geo and Dene. Telmer and Krake helped him dig them out of the snow. Helix brought a cargo pallet to carry them to the depot.
Hexx stood at the entrance to the main building as the subdued troopers approached. Mayday was at his side, head tilted up, watching the dark forms of the ice-vultures circle against the overcast sky.
“Least we found them before the scavengers did,” Hexx said softly.
Mayday’s expression was hidden by his helmet as he turned his attention to where the troopers were reverently carrying their fallen brothers.
“I shouldn’t have ordered the patrols.”
“Orders are to protect the depot and its cargo. Perimeter sensors were down. You did what you thought was best.”
Mayday’s tired sigh sounded over their com channel. “Why do I feel like the Empire isn’t going to be as understanding as you are, Hexx?”
Hexx shrugged. “We patrolled when the sensors went down before. It was just unfortunate it happened during a blizzard this time.” He hesitated. “Don’t blame yourself.”
Mayday clasped Hexx’s shoulder briefly, then headed down the steps to join his troopers.

Welcome to Angstpril!
This writing project is a collaboration between myself, @the-little-moment and @kybercrystals94 to bring you a fabulous series of angst-based Bad Batch fanfiction. We've shared the prompts between us so don't forget to check all of our blogs to catch the whole month's worth of stories!
My series of 10 stories will all focus on Clone Commander Mayday and the Barton IV Outpost. Stay tuned to follow Mayday's journey to the bitter end...
Gonna level with you guys, I've not been well so whilst I have every intention of contributing to this event I cannot 100% guarantee updates on the day they're due... but I'll do my best :')
