i’m talking about 223 leaks!
"It's my fault that I got sealed. I don't feel like blaming you.”
you know, maybe it’s just me, but that sounds an awful lot like that voice in the back of your head you kept as a child, the imaginary friend you never grew out of—“it’s all your fault.”
how often did gojo get reprimanded by the elders in his family because of a lesson gone wrong, or even a mission failed?
maybe he got so used to blaming himself and assuming all responsibility as a kid that everything going on right now isn’t even phasing him surface-levelly. his distraught (and dare i say, uncharacteristic) breakdown in spv was because he thought he could finally share that burden with someone.
i think befriending geto lowered his guards down (his “infinity”), and that’s why him leaving was such a big blow on him (hence the most emotional state we’ve seen him in). so with his upbringing and his guilt/sense of responsibility, i can see why he tries to maintain this calm image. because it’s his fault yaga died, it’s his fault megumi is now a vessel, and it’s his fault for letting things get too far. he doesn’t get to mourn, he doesn’t give himself the time to feel.
compartmentalization, repression, and upholding a pillar, he’s jujutsu’s atlas with the world on his shoulders (literally).
i wonder if he’s ever regretted being born because his birth caused the strengthening of curses (and ultimately, everything after). is that why he’s always so ready to atone for the sins he didn’t commit?
how far does his guilt stretch? is he used to blaming everything on himself?
i still feel like we should’ve gotten more insight to gojo’s inner turmoil (and perhaps his childhood!), but we’re in the long run now, so maybe it’s something we’ll never know

random avatar hc's cause I'm bored. (these fall closer to canon, and not for one of my au's, so like... vaguely 'normal' spider, not so nice neytiri, etc. unless specified otherwise)
spider and tuk are besties. the way she sorta hides behind spider when she blows a raspberry at lo'ak? she knows he'd take her side in a fight. spider will never tell her she's "too big" for anything, he literally works out partly because he wants to be able to carry her for as long as possible. he goes out of his way to play with her when her siblings ditch her. take whole days to just follow tuk around and do what she wants to do. she made him a songchord and goes to sit with eywa with him so he won't be alone. doesn't get why people don't like him, cause she thinks he's the best. so she tries to make him happy when they're together. pisses neytiri off, cause she always wants to spend time with spider, even when she tells tuk not to (it makes spider sweat bullets, cause tuk refuses to let go of his hand and neytiris just glaring at him, and he almost wants to beg her to let go)
ao'nung is also tuks best friend. they bully each other, but get offended if anyone insinuates they don't like each other. she's still mad at him for being mean when they first met, won't let him live it down, even years after the fact. braids his hair all. the. time, he can't get her to stop touching it.
even outside of my blessed spider au, spider has connected with eywa, cause she accepted him no matter what, he just doesn't tell anyone. she knows how to connect to humans now, via her roots, so she connects with the boy. he feels like if he points it out he'll get in trouble or he'll be 'using eywa' to get what he wants (which isn't true, but the boy has some irrational fears cause ✨trauma✨)
ao'nung and rotxo 'dated' as kids, like schoolyard crush type dating, cause they were really young. it lasted a few years (on and off) from like 6ish to 10/11, but to this day, they're still very close. like, its odd to find them not touching each other or cuddling or holding hands. they're inseparable and have no clue what personal space is, at all. they still say "I love you", kiss eachother's cheeks/foreheads, ao'nung is possessive, roxto is always talking about him. they're platonic they swear (not a soul believes them).
neteyam doesn't want to be chief, sometimes he hates being jakes son because of the weight on his shoulders, but he doesn't complain cause he doesn't want to be a disappointment, and he doesn't want to watch his siblings struggle to carry the weight themselves.
spider self soothes by brushing a thumb over his own cheek or running his fingers through his hair or holding his own hand. he's so insanely touch-starved its not even funny.
he's also a maladaptive daydreamer. I got no solid reason, it just feels right. gotta deal with his loneliness and metric ton of big feelings in one way or another.
he also feels the urge to talk to himself, a lot, especially when he's out alone in the woods. he just happens to think the ato'kirina are a coincidence (eywa listens to him attentively like a mother should).
spider tends to 'ignore' signs of eywa when it comes to himself, because he can't accept that eywa would ever wish to connect to or guide him. (its a running theme in my hc's)
after sorting out their drama, ao'nung is really close to lo'ak. after neteyam's death he sorta becomes his big brother. their dynamic is a mess, but they make it work. ao'nung is sorta like a punching bag for lo'ak a lot of the time (like hopper and mike in that one scene in season 2 of stranger things). ao'nung hates watching him mourn (he wishes he had died instead. for more then one reason, but that's a big one). other times they're super sweet on each other, play roughhousing, just hanging out, lightly teasing one another. they're my messy boys.
kiri refuses to pick between spider and rotxo. they don't mind. polycule for the win.
spider isn't immediately accepted by the metkayina, but he tries really really hard to prove himself, and does make some sort of name for himself. they may not all like him, but they respect him.
spider learned to treat bullet wounds after having to sit behind neteyam, staring at the bullet hole, and not knowing what to do. he blames himself for neteyams death, but he thinks that if he knew what to do, if hadn't frozen, if he'd known what to do, maybe he would have lived.
ao'nung has a disproportionate level of big brother instinct, relative to his general asshole personality. he's insanely protective of anything smaller them then him, even if he himself hates it. aka, even before he accepted spider into his friend group, or the village as a whole, he was instinctively protective, embarrassingly so. still kicks himself for getting lo'ak hurt (he meant to scare the piss out of him sure, but he never wanted him to get hurt) and he genuinely cringes, one of those full body shakes type cringes, when he thinks about it. he hates its.
spider doesn't know how to properly show affection after always being denied it, having to suppress it (not being able to affectionate with the other sully kids in front of the elders), etc. so now he sorta just struggles. the sully kids don't really notice how he hides his affections, how he's timid about it, what he considers to be affection. the metkayina kids are not used to it, they are genuinely concerned. spider is genuinely afraid to be nice to people when not in private. he's deathly afraid of receiving affection in front of others.
tsireya and ao'nung (sorta rotxo too, but he's dating him, so its kinda different) forcibly adopt him after a while, they can't help it. he's like a kicked puppy, its hard not to love him.
roxto's grandma (who raised him, canon, cause i said so) and all his brothers and sisters (he has a big family, mostly adopted siblings,) love spider, so he has a little makeshift family.
spider would, whether he was accepted as one or not, become a warrior after what happened that night in the forest (getting kidnapped) and what happened on the ship/to neteyam. he won't let himself be taken off guard again, he won't let the people he loves, even if they don't love him back, get hurt again. he vows his life to the na'vi, to pandora, to Eywa herself; he will die before he loses someone else.
spider and lo'ak orange cat energy, kiri and tuk have tortie energy (sassy queen), roxto is a tuxedo cat, ao'nung and neteyam are black cats, tsireya has tabby vibes (sweet but sassy). (fight with the wall)

mike wheeler
okay so with all these set photos coming out and these arguments between byler, and mileven, i think it’s time we start focusing on MIKE WHEELER.
people think that he is some b!tchy dude who is mean to his friends but people always forget that he has trauma too. but see, his trauma isn’t exactly from the upsidedown itself like wills, els or max. his comes from everyday struggles and i am here to speak my truth about that.
let’s not forget how heartbroken that kid was when his BEST friend will disappeared. I mean we’ve all seen that one scene where dustin and lucas are arguing and he’s in the middle look so depressed. for a whole week, he’s looking for will. this guy tried to 💀 himself. yeah yeah he did it for dustin, and im sure that’s part of it but for his teeth? they were baby teeth too. but he lost el, had a big fight with lucas, his best friend is still missing, and is living on one ounce of hope that will is alive after seeing his “dead” body dragged out of the water.
he grows a connection with el, then loses el. on the positive side, he did get his best friend back, but that doesn’t change the trauma we went through. but how can he express that trauma? i mean, his best friend is suffering from bullying and the side effects of coming back to life all year. how pathetic would it look to him if he started going, “when you went missing, i went through hell.” not to mention he couldn’t talk abt that to his mom or sister because barb didn’t come back. nancy has to deal with losing her best friend. at least mike got his back. that’s all that is going through his mind.
when el comes back, he can’t talk about the depression he went through after knowing what it felt like to lose will, and then to lose el for a whole year. she’s got all this trauma from the upsidedown and the lab. once again, he would look stupid if he started talking about his depression.
then his best friend and girlfriend move away to the other side of the country. cleary that destroyed him. i mean he prob thought that he would have will and el his whole life. will, who he has known for like what a decadeish? is gone. can he mourn, be sad, tell his friends that his two favourite people gone is killing jim from the inside? no! and why? because max just watched her step brother die. (i’m not a big fan of that arc cause he was literally so abusive). anyways max is going through it, thinking about what she could’ve done, isolating herself from lucas and the party. he once again probably would feel selfish if he were to mention that in front of his friends.
eddie was his friend too. cleary, he looked up to him in some shape or form. but he knows that dustin was closer AND had to watch him die. mike, wasn’t there for yet. he’s probably going through it too, knowing that someone he cared for is gone. does he even know that eddies dead yet? (pre s5 time skip). but dustin had to watch him die so it feels like him mourning would be more pathetic cause at least he wasn’t there. he can’t be as sad as everyone else when max his in the hospital bc he isn’t close enough like everyone else. that’s one of his best friends girlfriend, he has if way worse.
people forget that will and el weren’t the only ones bullied!! (dustin and lucas are also forgotten, that’s a post for later!). he was bullied his whole life too. he almost died because he was bullied. bullying, especially at a young age will affect you. i’m not excusing any of his fights he’s had with el or will, but apart of trauma and not getting help for it, means you are going to act as what you hate the most.
even the unrelated upsidedown stuff makes him look pathetic. his dad is there physically, but not emotionally. that would put a toll on anyone, having a dad that is never trying to bond or connect with you. but can he say anything about that? wills dad abuses him, dustin doesn’t have one and max had hers replaced with an abusive stepfather.
his whole life, he felt like his trauma want important enough because everyone has it worse than him. i am not shaming any other characters for their trauma, their traumas are just as important. what im trying to prove is that he isn’t some butthole teenager. he is a teenager who feels alone and keeps his feelings hidden until they explode.
plus, if you are a byler fan or a queer mike truther, you can add on to the fact that he probably hates himself for being some different weird losers who wants to be with his best friend, a man. that probably breaks all rules he grew up with.
add all these things tgt, and you get a very emotionally drained teenager who needs help.
(all the kids need therapy, srsly, why is max the only one in therapy. each kid has gone through sm, im not dissing them or ignoring their trauma, everyone’s trauma is equally important and ill make another post about each character in the future).
i really hope they talk about his trauma and depression, this dude has gone through and yet feels like it’s not important enough.

Naruto redesigns be upon ye
The main point of divergence from the canon timeline is Naruto meets Kurama a few years early (and also Zabuza and Haku live bc i love them <33). This happens because he decided to go foraging for more food and ate a poisonous plant (think deadly nightshade), causing his Kurama's chakra to kick in and heal the effects of the poison and send Naruto to the sealscape. Kurama decides to be nice(r) to Naruto because he's not dumb enough to blame a literal child for something that happened to him as an infant, though he's not exactly friendly until Naruto thinks to ask Kurama's name about a year down the line, on Naruto's 10th birthday.
I've been super into my Naruto au recently. The current name for the AU is Punk Tactics because Naruto's (and eventually all of his friends) a full-on punk who actually wants to change things for the better rather than slather the status quo in orange paint.
Because Naruto's got a millenium old genius monster giving him life advice and bullying him into self-sufficiency for a best friend, he's not really the dead last in class, but he's absolutely awful at tests so he still has the worst academic grades.
A lot of Naruto redesigns take away the orange completely for stealth, but I decided to keep it because orange is such an integral part of his character (bright orange is happy, warm, demands attention, and is very distracting, all stuff Naruto needs in his day-to-day life), and also the kid who stole the scroll of seals and almost got away with it doesn't need advice on being stealthy lol. He also wears dark coloured clothing under the highlighter jumpsuits in case he *does* need to be ultra stealthy, as well as for extra protection.
For younger Naruto, I used bright but more pastel-y colours because he's more innocent and hasn't really become Naruto yet, but after meeting Kurama and growing up a bit he's embraced the obnoxious side of himself and has begun wearing it like armour against the world. He's also a thief in this au, and his pranks are both a way to get revenge on the village for mistreating him and taking attention away from the real mischief he get into (this also provides the experience he needs to eventually steal the scroll of seals). As he grows older, he wears both brighter and darker colours to signify embracing himself more as well his growing maturity, while also being an homage to his jinchuriki transformations.
Also, he makes the highlighter jumpsuits directly after the Wave Mission, where his eyes were opened to injustice that didn't affect him personally, and he goes from wanting to be Hokage so people aren't mean to him to wanting to be Hokage to change the world for the better for everyone, so the black also represents how much more seriously he takes things now and the orange represents his bright hopes for the future. The black is also, one some level, a way to mourn his loss of innocence after everything he's gone through and the childhood he never really got to have. (Can you tell I love nuance, layers and symbolism in stories)
For the jinchuriki transformations I went hard into the eldritch cryptid type aesthetic while adding some symbolism. Hinata thinks of Naruto as the sun and herself as a sunflower always facing towards him and trying to emulate him (her name is written in hiragana but kanji readings of Hinata generally translate to something sun related), and Naruto's base appearance while using mass amounts of bijuu chakra looks like various cosmic events related to stars like an eclipse or a black hole. The eyes are inspired directly from Naruto's canon four tails transformation and Alternates from The Mandela Catelogue. It's also kind of representing Naruto's status as the black sheep of Konoha as he's entirely black aside from the eyes, and the oxymoronic nature of his existence - a glowing shadow, a genius village idiot, Konoha's greatest asset and pariah, a little kid with more life experience than most adults. Also it looks cool
The Highlighter Jumpsuits he wears after Wave are handmade and specially designed to take on Kurama's chakra without degrading like normal clothes would - this allows his clothes to become part of the shadowy body when he transforms.
I decided to make Naruto use a bo staff as one of his main weapons for a few reasons: sticks are the easiest weapon to find for a guy who spends most of his time in a forest, the idea of professionally bonking people with a stick is funny, and I love the stick and rope metaphor from Death Stranding. He can also just tie a kunai to it if he needs a spear
As for why Naruto doesnt have a utility belt or any kunai pouches: he adds a bunch of extra pockets and straps to hold things to any clothing he can and uses storage seals to hold everything. Some pockets are just hidden storage seals to hold things that would be awkward to fit into a pocket.

Soulmate Bracket: Round 1 [Side A — Part V]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Provided reasoning under cut:
Wei Wuxian & Lan Wangji
They are canonically called soulmates!! In the live action this is platonic due to censorship and in the book it is romantic but the term actually used is zhiji (知己) of which soulmate is the closest english translation but is more literally like. the mirror to your soul. your own self in another person. i am not good with translations only wei wuxian dies but lan wangji mourns him for thirteen years (despite wwx being hated and despised by the world) because he can never love another. when wwx is brought back he recognises him instantly despite being in someone else’s body. they literally would find each other in any time or place
Oh boy. Ok. They're not explicitly called "soulmates" in the show/book but Netflix does use that categorization in its description of "The Untamed". Nor are either of them technically reincarnated BUT Wei Wuxian does get resurrected in another man's body through some shady necromancy, which is pretty darn close. They've got a fascinating relationship journey (basically enemies/rivals to lovers) Mr. Follow-All-Rules-To-The-Letter Lan Wangji meets Mr. Break-All-The-Rules-In-The-Name-Of-Fun-And-Showing-Off Wei Wuxian at teenage exorcist summer camp, they go through some sh*t, Wei Wuxian dies, Lan Wangji spends over a decade trying to find any sign of his lost soulmate while raising his adopted kid, then the shady necromancy happens and Lan Wangji IMMEDIATELY clocks that this guy simultaneously solving exorcist issues using slightly questionable means and causing shenanigans is Wei Wuxian. He might be in a different body pretending to be another crazy man, but HE KNOWS it's his guy because he acts the same and he knows the secret love song Wangji wrote for Wuxian that he shared one time in a cave during one of their near-death bonding experiences. Then history starts kind of repeating itself, only this time they stick together and make sure EVERYONE knows that they've got each others' backs, and they are absolutely legendary. Also Wei Wuxian is INCREDIBLY dense and it takes him just about until the end of the story to realize they're both gay and in love. They're complex and fascinating and tied to each other by the red string of fate so tightly that they are incomplete without each other. That's destiny, baby. They're soulmates, always and forever. (Possibly literally as the proper practice of exorcism (called "cultivation" in this world) can lead to immortality, and you know Mr. Follow-All-Rules-To-The-Letter Lan Wangji has the potential, and he will drag his guy along with him so they are never separated again.)
Okay so I feel like it could be argued if they count but the Netflix description of the show calls them soulmates and WWX *did* get reincarnated and then almost immediately run into LWJ who had been mourning him for 16 years. LWJ composed a little musical theme for them that ties them together and WWX playing it on a super out of tune flute is what let LWJ fully recognize him. Their magic which comes from their souls is very compatible and neither of them have ever been normal about each other in their life even though WWX spent a long time being extremely dumb and repressed about his very gay feelings (they are romantic soulmates, just takes them a bit to get there). Big "you and me against the world" vibes once WWX becomes the number 1 wanted guy in the entire universe due to dabbling in dark magic even though WWX was like "lan zhan if someone has to kill me i want it to be you" (LWJ did *not* want it to be him and did his very best to keep WWX alive even though it meant betraying his clan and the world as a whole). They got fake married as teens back when LWJ didn't even like WWX. There are multiple moments where they parallel other soulmates/soulmate-coded characters (song lan and xiao xingchen, baoshen sanren and lan an). They're the only two characters who get to be happy at the immediate end of the story and that's because both of them being alive and together and getting to wander around fighting monsters and playing music and being grossly in love is all that they both need.
Utena Tenjou & Anthy Himemiya
[SPOILERS] at the end of the series, it is revealed that they weren’t living in the real world this entire time. Utena was sent somewhere else. Anthy goes to find her in the movie, and Utena has lost all of her memories of Anthy in that world. At the end of the movie, they end up escaping to the real world
Utena falls in love with Anthy on first sight and makes sure she becomes her prince without even remembering who she is. They're stuck in a timeloop and eventually find themselves together near the end escaping from the horrors theyre trapped in. (Spoilers kinda) Anthy is hinted to have came back to life after being burned st the stake for being seen as a witch so the reincarnation exists,,,(they're in love your honor vote for my silly sapphics)
Every version of RGU is the narrative repeating itself. Devouring itself again. The serpent eating its own tail. Utena fights for Anthy again and again. Anthy betrays Utena, or lies to Utena, or cannot save the both of them quick enough. Anthy escapes, or they both escape, or they both get trapped again, and the story repeats, and Utena is winning the hand of the rose bride, and Utena cannot escape the narrative. Each time the story is told again Utena cannot quite remember how she got here, but it gets more familiar each time. RGU is a time loop that the characters can hardly escape. In every version, Anthy and Utena find each other. Betray each other. Find each other, again.

I like to think Lance and Wallace are older than Steven, and they just treat him like a younger sibling. Wallace just moves Steven’s rocks and disorganizes them because Steven’s adhd/add makes him organize his collection a certain type of way. Meanwhile Lance just straight up takes his seat in Champion meetings. He stopped doing it after Cynthia announced Steven was her bf tho.
Also, Steven is just so sheltered that he literally doesn’t understand what a menstrual cycle is. It’s his big brothers who have to explain it to him. Steven’s just baffled, and is about to make a campaign for days off for menstrual cycles (that does not make any sense).
When Lance heard how Steven fought Team Magma/Aqua he scolded Steven so hard for not doing the right safety protocols.
Lance: “You’re telling me you didn’t have your strongest pokemon out to defend you?”
Steven, confused: “Well, no. Why would I? There was a kid there, he/she’d would have taken care pf that.”
Lance is just too stunned to speak. He just holds out a pokeball with one of his dragonites, silently judging Steven.
Meanwhile Wallace is just watching it all go down.
The cape duo (Wallace and Lance) just grill into Steven about Steven’s lack of knowledge when it comes to women and social situations. They always have to tell Steven that not everyone is as rich as he is. Like:
One time, when Steven visited Lance’s house, he asked Lance why it was so small. Steven also pointed out how much a Champion such as Lance would get double what Steven would get, not to mention Lance’s other job as a detective/in the police force. Lance has to take a minute to think where his money goes and remembers all the times Clair borrowed his money because she wasted all of hers for random stuff.
After one of Wallace’s contests Steven asked him why he didn’t get more intricate clothing. Wallace just sighs.
Steven definitely mourns his mother around Wallace instead of Lance since Wallace knows him the longest, but Steven rants more to Lance. Steven knows for a fact Wallace hates hearing about politics. Wallace is in it for the drama.
Wallace does grill Lance for not finding an s/o though meanwhile he and Steven does. He’s like that one middle child who just gloats about everything (at least that’s how my brother works). Lance is just done with it. However, when Wallace did hear about Lance and Lorelei’s relationship, Wallace just interrogates him about it. Lance is just like “eh, we broke up just ‘cause. Not that big of a deal. Besides, she still gives me dragonite plushies anyways.”
Also, Wallace knows about Diantha’s pathetic crush on Lance, so it’s his life’s mission to get them together. He has a whole entire file and billboard with the red strings connecting to the points. Wallace just breaks into Devon Corp just to use the vacant office for his plans. Steven’s just like, “I can’t cover for you. Just use your own office at your house.”
Wallace has no ear to pay attention to. “Shut up, Steven. I need to do this. There has to be a way to get these two idiots to fall in love. I’ll find out. Even if it’s the last thing I do.”
Yeah, that’s it.

Thirteen Ghosts (2001)
Tumblr media
Thir13en (or Thirteen/13) Ghosts is a story about a family that inherits a bizarre and beautiful house from a late relative that contains many secrets- and a basement full of murderous ghosts.
This is one of my personal favorites and has been since I was a kid. It came out in 2001 so the earliest I could have seen it would be when I was around 12 or so, and that’s assuming I saw it the year it came out, which I literally have no way of knowing. I’m going to operate under the assumption I saw it at 13 because it’s likely, and it’s thematically hilarious to me.
Also it definitely is one of about three ghost related movies that really solidified ghosts as being my ‘thing’.
Enough about that, let’s talk about the movie! Review under the cut, and as always, SPOILERS ahead!
I literally cannot overstate how much I love this movie. It’s one of the first real horror movies I ever saw as a child, and it’s definitely one of the ones that altered my brain chemistry to a degree that could never be undone. SO much of what I love in a horror movie comes from this one.
Weird house? Check. Loads of ghosts? Check, obviously. Pathetic but attractive guy covered in blood? Check. Jokes that make me cackle but don’t interrupt the flow of the movie? Check. Body horror that makes my skin crawl? Check, check, check. A twist that’s set up previously in the movie if you’re REALLY sharp eyed? Check. Environmental storytelling, a weird morbid kid, two worlds in one space, and a WHOLE LOT of lore. It’s got it all!
The cold open is so good. It establishes the level of violence the dead are capable of (The Breaker having more than tripled his kill count after his death, for example), and gives us some major players and their clashing personalities. It also kind of reminds me of the opening scene in Jurassic park where they’re moving a raptor into the enclosure and it all goes to hell in a similar way.
Every new thing that gets mentioned just draws me further in, and I, a known sucker for lore, want to know everything. If I lived in that world, Cyrus would have had me hook, line, and SINKER, as long as he promised me ghost knowledge lmao. I’d be dead as hell so fast.
The inciting tragedy for the main characters plays over the opening credits and this, too, is something I adore. The environment changes along with the audio- a cheerful house with a loving family fades into a crummy, box-filled apartment while the anguished cries of Arthur and his children mourn the loss of their mother Jean as the camera pans to the left. We don’t have to see it to know what happened, or how much pain its caused.
One thing I love, love, love about this movie is how much story is told through the environment and small details alone, rather than just explained by the characters. Arthur doesn’t say he’s struggling to keep his shit together, but his instant mood swing at a small inconvenience sure does. The past due bills pinned to the corkboard in the background do, too. The set designers did an amazing job- I could probably find hidden important details in every scene if I had the time to comb through them.
Some other things I want to mention in this first part of the movie- the pictures of the house that the lawyer shows the family are all taken in a way that obscures the fact that every wall is glass; when we’re shown Kalina’s place, there’s a newspaper clipping about Cyrus’s death that names Ben Moss, the lawyer, as the spokesperson of Cyrus’s company, hinting at him having more of an involvement than simply the lawyer; and how nobody in the family really tries to deter Bobby from his obsession with death even if it makes them a little uncomfortable.
The glass house is so iconic. It’s so fucking weird and impractical and sinister and beautiful all at once. And that’s BEFORE it goes full Rube Goldberg. There is nothing at all about this house that gives the vibe that you should move in here and raise your children. Hell there’s nothing at all that gives the vibe that it’s even a house. It’d be a museum, if anything, especially with how much stuff Cyrus has crammed in there.
Except the library. Almost all the books are on the floor in there. Cyrus I’m going to throttle you, you could have had the coolest occult library but instead you just stacked that shit on the ground. I’m so disappointed in you. It’s such a weird choice, given how much else he clearly planned out: every room has the ghost glasses in it somewhere, and there are multiple rooms that might tempt each new resident (living or dead perhaps). He wanted them to see their oncoming doom, wanted them to feel terror and heartbreak and despair. He planned for so many possibilities it’s actually pretty impressive- he knew the lawyer would kick off the process by going right for the money, for example, and it’s clear that he wasn’t told just how fast shit would pop off, since he just sort of saunters back down the corridor instead of getting the hell out as fast as possible. Nobody else was meant to leave that house alive, except Cyrus.
Cyrus himself is so easily hateable right from the get-go. He’s an asshole, he’s pushy and considers everyone else beneath him, and every new sentence out of his mouth makes me hate him more. There’s no attempt made to get the audience to sympathize with him, with the possible exception of the video they play as part of his will and testament, not that it works very well. What a great villain, and a fascinating character as well. I hate him so much. I’m delighted I got to see him die twice. (Ok so the first one was a fake out but it was still satisfying.)
And then there’s Dennis. Just as I hated Cyrus immediately, so did I love Dennis immediately. He’s a tormented little weirdo with psychic abilities, hunting ghosts and hating every minute of it just so he can have some kind of human interaction that doesn’t center on him being the target of whatever cruelty’s going on. He’s kind of an asshole, but he’s still compassionate (to the living at least), and funny to boot. Also, he’s played by Matthew Lillard, so of course I was going to love him. (However, at this point in my life, the only other thing I’d seen with him in it was Scooby-Doo, so the whiplash was real lmao.)
Honestly the man is prime blorbo real estate, as the kids might say. I’m surprised at how few fics there are on Ao3 for this movie/man.
My god, the lore in this movie is incredible. Each and every ghost has a name and a story, despite never getting addressed in the movie itself, and they all look phenomenally unique. They all have clearly distinct personalities, too, despite all (well almost all) of them being murderous freaks. I’d love to watch a miniseries or something about each spirit, I’d eat that up.
I loved the twist reveals, both Kalina’s and Cyrus’s. I really would like to know how he got her to fall for him, and whether she’d always been on his side or if she’d started out genuinely opposing him. One thing’s obvious though, and it’s that she is terrified of the man. Her personality does almost a complete 180 in his presence, she’s overexplaining, she’s desperate for his approval. It’s funny that, just a few minutes earlier, she’d taunted Dennis about how Cyrus was just using him and didn’t actually care about him, yet apparently never suspected the same about herself.
One more thing I’d like to mention is that I love how the family, and only the family, survives. Cyrus gets what he deserves, Kalina is betrayed, and Dennis sacrifices himself, but the entire family makes it out alive- including Maggie, the nanny. Where other movies might not have considered her family enough, and killed her off, this one says no, she’s part of the family. She gets to live. Which is great, since she was so right about pretty much everything, as well as probably the funniest character. (I will never not laugh at ‘did the lawyer split?’)
I do want to know what happens to all the ghosts, as after the destruction of the house they can all be seen presumably going off to commit murder elsewhere. And of course I also want to know where Ghost-Dennis went off to. Did he cross over? Did he decide to tag along with the family? Did he go off on his own? Whatever he chose, he finally looked somewhat at peace for the first time in the entire movie.
Maybe it’s nostalgia, maybe it’s because of how it shaped my interest in ghosts and horror, maybe it’s because I can’t resist a good pun, but I give this one 13 outta ten ghosts. I’ve seen this movie probably about 167 times and still haven’t gotten tired of it and I hope I never will.

Enemies
“I’m going to kill the Mind Flayer.”
Your proclamation had caused an out-roar from your friends. But El’s screams had distracted them enough to run to her aid. Steve had tried to stay with you but you only insisted he go to the others, that you needed to be alone to mourn.
But you had lied. You didn’t need time to mourn. In fact, you were far from feeling upset. You were angry. You needed to find a way to track this thing down and kill it yourself.
The others had gathered around the fountain, struggling to help El. Something had started moving in her leg, causing immeasurable pain. In the end, she had used her powers to pull it out herself and in a turn of events, Hopper had killed the thing.
In that time, you had been sat next to Jack’s lifeless body. He was covered in a sheet you had found covering a display in the mall. You knew you should have helped, should have been there for the girl you cared for like a sister. But you just couldn’t do it.
“Hey, kid.”
You tilt your head up to see Hopper walking to you, eyes shifting to the covered body you kneel beside. He went down on one knee, placing a hand on your shoulder.
“You’re back.” You try to smile, meeting his eyes. But only a twitch of your lips happened before your eyes misted with tears.
Instinctively, he pulls you in, your head buried into his shoulder as silent tears fell down. This wasn’t the same raw emotion you had felt before. It was the realisation that Jack was never coming back to you.
“I’m so sorry.” He soothes, pulling away as you wipe your tears on the sleeves of your jumper.
“It’s my fault.” You whisper and he takes a breath, shifting your body so you faced away from the painful memory.
“Look at me.” Hopper instructed. When your head started moving back to the white sheet, he situated himself in front of you, “Hey, kid. Look at me.”
You reluctantly meet his eyes, lips pressing tightly together.
He sighs, shaking his head, “None of this is your fault. You should never blame yourself. Jack… he loved you. I know for a fact he would do anything for you.”
“It shouldn’t have happened.” You cry and he hugs you again.
“No. No it shouldn’t have.” He agrees.
The conversation comes to an end and he holds you there for a while. Hopper was always someone that cared for you, as you cared for him. It wasn’t really a father-daughter relationship like he had with El. If anything, he was your friend. He had realised a long time ago that you didn’t need another parental figure to tell you what to do. You needed someone to listen.
“Listen, kid.” Hopper finally says after you pull away, “I gotta go do something important. And…”
Once he pauses, it catches your attention and your eyes fly to his. Hopper rarely ever struggled with words when it came to you. It had to be serious.
“You’ll be safe, right?” You question and he sighs before a small smile stretches onto his lips, just below his moustache.
“I’ll do my best.” He slowly nods, looking away and back down to where everyone else gathered, “And you’re gonna be okay. You’ve always been the most stubborn kid I knew, and I for one understand just how strong you can be when you put your mind to it.”
“Thank you.” You smile before shaking your head, “Is El okay?”
“She’s strong too.” Hopper simply says with a chuckle, “I expect you two will be looking out for eachother.”
“Always.” You say sincerely and he nods at that, slowly standing.
Hopper had insisted you join them downstairs but you told him you weren’t ready. He understood, needing to leave to be the chief the town never understood how much they needed. His words had changed your perspective on things. He was right, after all.
You were strong when you put your mind to it.
Your mind had cleared, focusing on the black dust living inside of you. Images burned into your eyes of the Mind Flayer, people melted and formed into a giant monster. Then, Billy.
He wasn’t like the others that had been possessed. It wasn’t the Mind Flayer controlling him or you’d be able to feel it. This was something else entirely. Your memory led you back to the figure in your visions, pieces of everything connecting into a terrifying nightmare.
The Mind Flayer wasn’t your only enemy.
“Y/n?”
Your eyes snapped open, turning your head to see Steve walking towards you cautiously.
“Hey.” He greeted you as you stood up from the ground, glancing down at Jack. “I, uh…”
“I don’t want to leave him here.” You say, eyes avoiding the body next to you, “I know it’s probably the last thing I should be worrying about and I know there’s no way we can-”
“Hey, hey.” Steve closes the distance, gently placing his hands on your cheeks. “We’ll try. Okay? He… he deserves a proper burial.”
You close your eyes, nodding.
“… yeah.” You open your eyes, meeting his. “After I kill this thing.”
He sighs, shaking his head slightly, “Look, Nance was just telling me that this thing is like thirty feet tall and is a weapon literally made out of-”
“People.” You finish and he blinks. “It’s got some pretty mean tentacles too.”
“How do you know that?”
“Oh, you know, just another failed Y/n adventure.” You sigh, the humour lost on your voice.
“When did this happen?” He frowns.
You don’t respond. Instead, you place your hand over his. “Do whatever you have to do, but… I’m not leaving.”
He shakes his head. “I wasn’t-”
“Yes you were. I heard everything.” You attempt a weak smile, “You’re gonna go with Dustin to help him out with a high frequency radio while the others either go to the Russian base or get the hell out of here.”
“I really need to work on being quiet.” Steve frowns, “But- no. You need to go with them. Or me. Whatever gets you away from this damn mall.”
“It’s on its way here.” You whisper. “Don’t ask me how I know, but I do. And I’m not leaving.”
“You can’t-”
“Yes I can.” You smile this time, his thumb rubs mindlessly against your cheek, “I’ll be okay. Trust me.”
“What if you’re not?” Steve’s voice is quiet, eyes focused on where his thumb touched your cheek. “I thought you had died in that base, Y/n. That woman… she showed us your blood. I heard you screaming and I- I thought-”
“I’m here.” You nod and his eyes shift back to you. “I’m Y/n Mayfield. I always survive. It’s kinda what I do. But… I can do this. Trust me.”
He squeezes his eyes shut before leaning forward so his forehead touches yours. “I’ll come back for you.”
“Good.” You laugh sadly, “You’re kinda my ride home.”
He laughs with you, opening his eyes once again to meet yours. “I hate you sometimes.”
“I love you too.” You whisper and his eyes widen.
You think you’ve made a mistake until his lips press against yours. Something in your chest felt lighter as his hand slips around your neck to hold you closer. It’s only for a few seconds before you suddenly pull away, a chill running down your spine. He frowns.
“It’s here.” You say, moving away from him. “You need to go.”
“I-” He starts but you’re already walking away, disappearing into the bathrooms.
“Steve!” Dustin yells, alerting him that he needs to move.
With a sigh, he heads to the boy, risking another glance behind him. You both knew better than to think this love ever stood a chance.
Tumblr media
“You should have listened”
You’re staring into the mirror, eyes fixed on the figure behind you. It still didn’t have any defining features other than its long arm, making it increasingly harder for you to figure out how to end it once and for all.
“You’re not going to win.” You say and, surprisingly, your heartbeat stays the same.
“How many more have to die before you understand?” The deep voice sounded irritated. You didn’t even realise it had any emotions.
“Understand what?”
“You play a bigger part in this game than anyone else” It creeps closer to you, “You will be their end”
“Not before I kill your nice little pet.” You smirk, eyes darkening until black consumed its space.
It seemed genuinely surprised at the control you suddenly had, stepping back before it slowly started fading away, the vines surrounding you turning to dust as everything shifts back to the Starcourt mall bathroom.
You let out a deep sigh, leaning against the sink while taking heavy breaths. Goosebumps trailed along your skin and you straighten.
It was time.
You exit the bathroom, turning the corner to see the white sheet that covered the body of someone you loved. As you pass, you reach down, gently brushing your fingertips along the hand that lay uncovered.
“I’m going to make this right.” You whisper, a tear rolling down before you stand back up and head down to the ground level of the mall.
As you reach the fountain, an echo of pants and squeaks from shoes sounded from the entrance and you frown, running over. Your eyes widen.
“Y/N!” Max yells, helping Mike carry El into the mall with a panicked look on her face while Lucas is following closely behind with Will.
“What- what the hell are you doing here?!” You run over to them, helping them prop El up against the fountain. “You’re not supposed to be here!”
“Billy disabled our car.” Mike pants and you stare out at the windows, seeing the headlights of the Camaro in the distance.
“Shit.” You mutter. You look at El, worry weaving your eyebrows to furrow. “Are you okay?”
“I will be.” She tried to smile at you, wincing when she shifted her leg.
“Y/n?”
You spin around to Jonathan’s voice as he runs into the mall.
Instinctively, you run towards him, pulling him into a hug. He held onto you tight as you both laughed despite everything.
“Shit, where the hell have you been?” You ask your friend, a heartfelt smile on your lips.
“Me? What about you?” He laughs before someone else runs into the mall.
“He’s not leaving and there’s no way we’re getting out of here without a car.” Nancy says breathlessly before coming to a stop, seeing you. “Y/n.”
She walks closer to you, biting her lip. “I heard about your uncle… I’m so sorry.”
To her surprise, you close the distance and hug her tight. She returns the favour, her grip just as tight.
When you finally pull away, you glance behind them at the headlights in the distance. “Billy?”
They nod and you sigh, shaking your head.
“We need a car.” Nancy explains, eyebrows furrowed. “Or a way to fix the wagon.”
Jonathan lets out a gasp, practically jumping.
“What- are you good?” You ask and he points upwards.
“The car!” He runs towards the escalators and you and Nancy share a confused look.
Nancy’s eyes widen as she realises what Jonathan was talking about. “The car that El threw. Maybe it’ll have the car part we need!”
She quickly follows him before stopping, realising you aren’t by her side. She frowns at you.
“Jack’s up there.” You say quietly and her face drops. She walks back, grabbing your hand and giving it a squeeze.
“We’ll be right back.” Nancy says and she doesn’t leave until you give her a nod.
While the others try to flip the car, you walk to the Starcourt entrance, looking out at the blinding headlights in the distance. Billy was in that car.
As if he sensed it was you, the car door opens and he steps out, staring back.
“I’m so sorry.” You whisper into the darkness. There was no way he could hear you from that distance but he suddenly lowers his head and climbs back into the car. It was eerie, to see him just sitting there.
You are about to go back inside when goosebumps trail along your skin again. You look up to the sky, your breath hitching in your throat. As a shot of lightning lit the dark red sky, a hauntingly familiar shadow loomed over the mall. Except it wasn’t just a shadow this time.
Now you knew why Billy wasn’t attacking.
You immediately sprint back inside the mall, looking for the others. Jonathan is looking around the space, muttering something under his breath as Nancy stands by the car they’ve managed to flip over.
You notice Will reach his hand to the back of his neck, Max glancing upwards.
“Mike...” She says and he turns to her.
Soon, the kids are all looking up as you run across the space, opening your mouth to warn them. But you’re too late.
Glass shatters to the ground as your friends all run out of the way, ducking for cover. You come to a skidding stop, stumbling backwards when the Mind Flayer belts out a terrifying screech.
You scramble to hide behind the fountain, chest heavy as the monster enters the mall.
You hold your breath, not wanting to alert it to your presence just yet. This would have been a lot easier if it was made out of the dust. Only then would you be sure that it wouldn’t attack you.
Glancing out from behind the fountain, you notice it slowly creeping towards the car that Jonathan, Nancy, Lucas, and Will were hiding behind.
“Fuck.” You mutter under your breath, pressing yourself back against the fountain.
They weren’t supposed to be here. You were meant to distract the Mind Flayer and kill it at its weakest when the others had managed to destroy the gate. But now, if you tried anything, it puts every single person in this mall in danger.
“Griswold Family, do you copy?”
Dustin’s voice was muffled and you spin your head around, trying to locate the radio. Mike’s had been smashed by the Mind Flayer but there was always another laying around, benefits of Dustin Henderson insisting every one of his friends had a radio on them at all times. You finally spot it under a fallen mannequin, a jacket laid on top of it so the sound didn’t reach the creature’s radar.
It was close enough for you to reach your arm and strain your fingers to grab hold of the object from the safety of the fountain.
All of a sudden, you hear a crash behind you and you crane your neck to see Mike, El and Max all run into the Gap store, the creature noticing their efforts. You hold your breath as the Mind Flayer releases small tentacles from its body, small rows of teeth attached to the end that made your body shiver. One went into the Gap, one searched around near the car and the other… headed straight to the fountain.
“Give me a break.” You mumble, trying to quietly shuffle yourself around the fountain once the tentacle got closer.
Your fingers finally grasp the antenna of the radio and you gently pull it towards you.
You were so focused on the action that when the tentacle came into view, you almost screamed. It was right in front of your face, weaving through the air until its teeth faced you and stayed motionless.
You slowly turn your head to look at the Mind Flayer just in time to see Lucas poke his head out, slingshot at the ready. Your eyes widened. Was he going to try and kill it with a slingshot?
When he released the rubber band, however, it sent the stone straight into a display balloon and created a noise for the Mind Flayer to focus on. The tentacle in front of your face retreated, barely missing your head as you ducked from its touched and pulled the radio towards you.
With that distraction, the group behind the car also make a run for it, heading straight to the pizza place and you smiled relief. The service hallways.
You knew where they were headed. If they managed to get to an exit, they could fix the car out front and get the hell away from this place.
And you could give them the distraction they needed to do so.
With the Mind Flayer’s back turned, you sprint towards the front exit, desperately trying to locate Nancy’s car.
“Dustin? Come in!” You yell into the radio, running fast through the darkness.
“Y/n?” Steve’s voice rang out and you almost cried in relief.
“Steve! Listen, Nancy’s car broke down and the others are still stuck at the mall. I’m going to try and distract Billy while they fix it but-”
“What? No. I’m coming to get you all the hell out of there.”
“Just…” You slow to a stop, looking around you and finally spotting the car, “If anything goes wrong, promise me you’ll get the kids out safe.”
There’s silence before Steve finally speaks again, obviously hearing the fear in your voice. “I promise.”
You turn off the radio and sprint to the Wheeler’s wagon just in time for Lucas, Will, Jonathan and Nancy to round the corner and reach it before you.
“Oh, thank god!” Nancy ran up to you, hugging you for a brief moment before turning to Jonathan.
“Where’s Max?” You look between them all, “Mike and El?”
“We don’t know.” Jonathan frowned, popping open the hood and installing the starter cables. “We’re gonna see if we can spot them once I get this car working.”
In the distance, a car engine starts revving and you all turn. Billy.
“Get the car started. Go!” Nancy yells, stepping out with a pistol in her hands and aiming it straight at Billy.
Jonathan slams down the hood of the car, sliding into the driver’s seat at Lucas and Will sit worriedly in the back.
“Nance, you can’t shoot him.” You say, standing next to the girl, she glances at you.
“And what? Let him kill us?” She frowned.
“He’s not- it’s not him. He’s being controlled by something-”
“The Mind Flayer, I know.”
“No! It’s something else, he-” You stop, staring at Billy’s car. “He doesn’t know what he’s doing.”
Behind you, the wagon’s engine starts sputtering. Jonathan yells in frustration as he desperately tries to get it started.
“Shoot the car.” You say and she furrows her brows.
“What?”
“His car. Shoot it.” You nod, looking to Billy. “Then get the hell out of here and I’ll take care of him.”
“I- how?”
“Trust me.”
And then, the tyres from the Camaro screech into gear as Billy tears off towards you and the others at full speed.
Nancy fires her gun twice, aiming for the tyres. The car doesn’t slow. She open fires, bullets tearing through the car. It wasn’t going to stop. You squint against the approaching headlights, trying to see Billy. His hands were gripping the wheel tightly, eyes set on his target.
But it wasn’t Nancy he was staring at. It was you.
“But there are others ways of destroying you”
When realisation hits you, your breath hitches. Billy wasn’t chosen out of coincidence. He was chosen for you.
You take off from your spot, running away from Nancy and the car full of your friends, testing the theory.
And, sure enough, Billy swerves the car, changing course and heading directly towards you.
“Y/N!” Nancy screams, desperately firing the gun. “Get out of the way!”
But there wasn’t enough time for that. With the speed Billy was going at, you’d be flattened regardless of if you moved out of the way. He was set on you like a homing beacon. If you moved, he moved with you.
You try and time it right, deciding to dive away at the right time to avoid any real damage. The Camaro’s headlights blind you just before another car crashes straight into it, swerving the car in the process and knocking Billy out cold. You jump out of the way, landing on your front just as the Camaro bursts into flames.
You turn your head to see Steve and Robin stumble out of the mystery car, a little dazed as they stare up at the Mind Flayer.
Steve's eyes drift to yours, a shaky smile on his face.
"Anyone order a heroic service?" Robin offers a grin, but her fear for the creature above her was already set.
“Get in!” Nancy yells to them as Jonathan pulls up in the car.
You slowly stand, body a little bruised, as the Mind Flayer focuses in on the wagon. Shit.
“Y/n! Come on!” Everyone yells at you. You start to run over before a loud clang behind you brought you to a halt.
You turn to see Billy stumbling out of the burning car, using it as a crutch to stand on his own feet. He whips his head up, his glare meeting your eyes.
You weren’t making it to the car.
You turn around, shouting to Jonathan. “How do you feel about taking the Mind Flayer for a walk?!”
He widens his eyes before giving you a brief nod, putting the car into gear and revving its engine loud enough to catch the creature’s attention.
Pulling away from Starcourt, the Mind Flayer immediately follows the wagon and you turn back to Billy just as it passes over your head.
“Billy.” You walk towards him, hands held out.
He pants, eyes fixed on yours. You get closer, making sure to leave enough distance between you in case he lashes out.
“It’s not you.” You shake your head, Billy’s face twisting into different emotions as he winces. He was trying.
“I’m right here.” You continue, eyes tearing as you watched your childhood friend struggle with himself, “You can fight it, Billy. I know you can.”
“Y/n…” He grimaces in pain, looking up at you. “I-”
A loud buzzer sounds from the other side of the car park and his eyes leave yours. You turn to the noise and your heart leaps to your throat.
The automatic gate opened and three figures walked out into the parking lot before abruptly stopping. Billy locked eyes with the red headed girl, his features darkening before his head rolled back to you.
“Perfect”
The deep voice spoke through him and he slowly straightened.
“No.” You whisper, glancing back at Max. “No, Billy. I know you’re in there! Don’t hurt her!”
A small smirk appeared on his lips, eyes flashing black and causing you to stumble back in horror.
“Billy’s gone”

Rambling here about Death Parade because I don't think I should spam this one channel in a discord server Abt it
Death Parade spoiler warning
The fact that Decim cannot catch when people are lying about their feelings makes me insane. In the first episode we see he wasn't able to tell the fact that one of his customers were lying, but once Chiyuki had explained it he realized he did a bad judgement, causing someone innocent to fall into the void. The problem is also that she technically didn't lie about what she said, but she lied about all the emotions she'd shown him. And then fast forward to having to judge some murderers, he made sure that lying about their emotions will never happen again by making said customer act out their statement, it's not lying if you do it right?
When Chiyuki first fell into Quindecim she still retained her memory of death. Decim legit had no clue what to do with her, asking his superior how to deal with a situation like hers. Nona proceeds to offer to judge her herself, solving the problem swiftly and taking her off from Decim's (inexperienced) hands. Yet, Decim still wanted to judge her, maybe he saw how she lived a fulfilling life, only to have ended abruptly by herself. He wanted to know why humans did that, why not continue on? Nona considers this interesting, maybe it'll end up not what anyone expected, so she allows this. Decim ends up learning so much about the human experience, despite him literally having human emotions injected into him, he barely knows how to act like one. He's never lived, he doesn't know what it's like to having someone to cherish or to be cherished. Then right before she started disintegrating, he decided to expedite her judgement. Making her play a game, making her remember what happened. Yet, she is still the same old self, she doesn't feel threatened because she already knows what will happen. As a last ditch effort to see her "true" side, Decim puts her in a false reality, where she can see her mother mourning for her. Decim offers her a way out, to end it all and to return to her beautiful life, kill 1 of 7 billion people in the world, to bring her back. Chiyuki thinks about it, before realizing that just like her, anyone she killed would have someone that misses them, exactly like how her mom misses her. She gives up, she stops, but she still wants to go back, she still wants to tell her mom she misses her too. In a last ditch effort to remove her guilt of killing someone, she gives Decim the device, asking him to press it for her, to rip the band-aid off. At that point, Decim realizes that Chiyuki despite being so desperate, wanting so badly to return to the human realm, yet will not allow him to judge her properly, she doesn't want to kill someone, but she still wants to do it to save herself. There is action in her words (making Decim do it for her), there is desperation, yet, she doesn't do it herself. He breaks down knowing that this form of judgement can and will never be fair, breaking the illusion and revealing he just thought he needed to know her better to judge her better, but it never did. The best part about it was how Decim created the Chavvot puppets by hand, those weren't fabricated, those were real dolls he made by hand.
Maybe I watch too many theory videos, but they put a whole lot of emphasis on the Chavvot story. How people can express their feelings despite not using words (or using those words to hide their true feelings) I don't know how to parallels to how the arbiter system does things, but I just think it's too big part of the story to leave it at "Chiyuki childhood fav story" (it doesn't even have skating!! It's just some kids playing!!!)
Also the emphasis on the eyes in this series is insane, I feel like there's definitely something up with them, the way Clavis' eyes aren't visible, the way we always have to see Decim's eye up close to see when he receives memories. I don't know what they're doing with that, but 👍
Less serious and I don't really mind what people ship but Decim and Chiyuki are so best friends to me. Chiyuki would NEVER be into that weird ass guy, look at me in the eyes and tell me that Chiyuki could love a guy as dumb as Decim. You cannot (because I will not listen anyways)

hi. tell me about the roommates au pretty please?
hii so i completely forgot about this but i'm gonna ramble now so buckle up (also shout out to anon that also asked about this au)
so. there's a block of flats called albatross apartments where all the riptide pirates (alphonse and gryffon, old man earl, john, ichabod, queen, etc) live, including some npcs that were never officially crew members (the three sisters from desire island, roofus and amber, ollie and his mum, etc). chip, jay and gill share one such flat. technically chip owns his, but jay and gill moved in once he realised he couldn't afford it on his own (which is how they met)
backstories time:
chip was found on the streets at a very young age by the black rose gang, a group of criminals. he surprisingly had a good childhood, with the gang stepping out of the criminal world for a short while and even taking in another abandoned kid. but one day, after chip and elizabeth had been left home while the gang went out for whatever reason, the police kicked down the door and put the kids into the system. chip later learned that there had been some sort of gang rivalry that resurfaced and caused the majority of the black rose gang to be sent to jail (rose died in the combat and finn was sent into a coma, but chip doesn't know that). the two were separated and chip had a rough childhood from that point onwards, getting involved in a gang himself during his last years of school, before finishing school with passing grades and deciding to not do anything with his life until he found out what happened to the black rose gang, as no news source seems to tell the full story. he went through several menial jobs before settling as a bartender at the or-inn-ge and renting a flat in albatross apartments. soon he realised it was too expensive to live there alone, so advertised for roommates, which is how he met jay and then gillion
jay grew up in a house of rules and expectations. to try and escape from her sister's shadow, she took on many extracurricular activities like archery and sea cadets, and planned to follow in family tradition and join the navy once she left school. these plans were abandoned once ava died in a freak accident at sea. after a few gap years to let herself mourn, jay secretly pursued an engineering apprenticeship and left home with no word to her father and only a brief goodbye to her mother the moment she found out she'd been accepted. she knew she wouldn't be able to afford her own place, so she looked for people searching for roommates. chip's offer was the cheapest (though she always told him she picked it cause it seemed the friendliest) so she applied and chip quickly accepted (what luck that this girl had the same surname as one of the black rose gang). from that point on, she acted as a sisterly figure, often urging chip to stop chasing the past and start focusing on the present and future instead, maybe even apply for some uni courses
gillion was raised in a deeply religious environment and sent off to a religious boarding school at a young age, essentially raised apart from his sister. the school taught him the "correct" morals and beliefs, with high emphasis placed on lying as a sin. he only saw edyn on the holidays, which is when she gave him pretzel, a crocheted frogtopus (an animal they'd invented when they were really young). once he graduated, he went on to a religious university, but he was kicked out after verbally attacking a teacher for some views he didn't agree with. he had nowhere to go, with his family refusing to associate with him, and so drifted from place to place for a short while, until he by chance spotted an ad for roommates in a local paper. he went to be interviewed, in which chip lied about certain things in order to appeal to this individual with deep religious trauma (even if gill didn't quite realise at the time),and also because again what are the chance of a tidestrider literally turning up at his door. he moved in and began to take an interest in philosophy and ethics, realising slowly how his religion was wrong about many things. he then began studying philosophy at a uni level
now this au does include ships, so jay meets lizzie on a dating app and they begin seeing each other, which is how lizzie and chip manage to reunite (it's very awkward meeting his lost sister at the same time as meeting his best friend's girlfriend. he's not quite sure who to threaten on the other's behalf). lizzie's studying law btw because she's an icon like that
i'm yet to decide if i wanna make it scarlet captains, but jaz will be there, studying music and flirting with chip whenever they bump into each other at the or-inn-ge
other ways npcs are included:
abigail and julian are chip's coworkers at the or-inn-ge and they're also engaged and have become integrated in the friend group
ichabod, as well as living in the apartment building, is jay's coworker, though he's no longer an apprentice, he's more a mentor
clorten is gill's classmate, also studying philosophy, but more focused on ethics (especially the morality of gambling and casinos wink wink)
caspian goes to gill's uni so they're friends, but he's studying literature and creative writing (this also makes it more awkward when lizzie turns up because gill's already heard of her)
anastasia is jay's ex-fling
i've already mentioned ollie and his mum, but chip's gotten into the habit of chatting to ollie as he walks to the bus stop. ollie's mum is suspicious of chip but it makes ollie happy so she doesn't complain
already mentioned earl, but he's chip's boss as well as neighbour
queen also studies music and is jaz's classmate, but the albatrio find queen annoying as they live next door and sing really loudly but only parts of songs
edyn will appear at some point when she gets a job at the or-inn-ge and chip realises who she is
goobleck is a dog that either belongs to someone in the building or just manages to get inside, cause he always seems to be somewhere nearby
i think that's all of the important things for now. OH and drey's prison sentence is shorter than arlin's cause arlin took the fall for most of what happened, so drey is reintroduced first and then they find out where finn is and he wakes up. essentially what happened to the black rose gang was that niklaus called rose out to fulfil an old deal they made and didn't take kindly to rose and the gang trying to refuse. rose died and the others were injured, finn more seriously than most, though drey lost function of his arms. niklaus is a wealthy businessman who dabbles in crime, so he paid the papers to stay quiet about what happened, hence why chip only learns the truth when drey is released
this is one of my favourite aus to be honest

since you cant find any ask prompts i'll just ask you a random question. what drew you to Datz as a character specifically? i love him a lot but i'm always curious to know what people vibe with when it comes to their favorite characters
AW hearts... thank you:3
its been a long time since i first met him so ill try to remember.. ik an ace attorney rp group i was in, the few ppl there who had played soj were talking about Gay Datz, so when i wanted to pick up a new muse i was like "that datz dude seemed silly (and we already had a dhurke) so ill just go watch soj for him:3" and then the horrors started
obviously he's an extremely likeable character but he was like the perfect storm of tropes i already liked + tropes i didnt even know i liked yet... him being the funny comedic relief is endearing but it's all the underlying Coolness of him that i just became obsessed with. and the loyalty. the loyalty i think altered my mind permanently. "right hand man" is like a trigger phrase for me being obsessed with a character now LMFAOOO HE BROKE MEEEE. i didnt even know i cared abt loyal guys before him!!! before datz i just cared abt delinquents and criminals
but god he's just so COOL ISNT HE!! his big ass kukri and the confident smug uncle way he peels apples... it really makes me nostalgic for the kind of guys i idolized when i was younger (and still do lmfao) i know he's in nepal-ish-area but he'd be 100% at home with my appalachian family.. the kind of guy who has infinite stories about anything and Probably half of them are made up but he's your uncle so you're gonna listen... bc he's the coolest ever.
PLUS if you put any thought into datz at all, like, the fact that he's made to be the way the player learns about dhurke's (and the kids) past, its like ... Ok but how do YOU know what their childhood was like huh?! and immediately you get this idea that datz is like, a seriously loyal guy who cares not just abt The Cause, but this whole little family dhurke has... that + the way datz solemnly and seriously mourns tahrust drives me CRAZY !!! LOOK AT HIM WITH HIS GENUINE FEELINGS!!!! AND HIS DEPTH!!!ARGH!!! IM GOING TO EAT A TABLE!!!!
and the more i talked abt him with my equally obsessed friends and fleshed out what kind of a Guy he must be, like.. piecing together "ok well if he helped look for apollo's mother after the fire, when dhurke was being accused of Literal Treason, then he must already have been close friends with dhurke or otherwise trust him for some reason...moreover dhurke must have trusted him at least a little..." it paints him as such a capable and loyal guy....Bro he devoted half of his life on this world to dhurke and his cause... his exmilitary history and outdoorsy guy tendencies helping dhurke live on the outskirts of khura'in.....
(trembling)and inthe concept art creator comments in the soj artbook it makes a mention of how datz being the moodmaker of the revolution is what kept it going for so long HELPPPP DATZ!!! DAAAAAATZ!!! ok this isnt even from the game anymore LMAO
short answer is i think he was concocted in a lab to make me, specifically, mentally ill

Just reading you about spider and agreeing he deserve better. Srsly my heartaches for him and everyone in the fandom painting him being a bad guy is too much like his gray character guys.
but what I notice from him he will never be truly accepted by the two species both humans and na'vi for the human's his to na'vi or (savage) and to the na'vi his the constantly reminder of what the human's did to their people and land and I cry for him for that. His just a kid who wants to be belonged and accepted but always getting rejected.
And what pisses me off is to those people who blamed spider for bringing the rda to the metkayina when in fact it was signal from norm and max got detected by the rda signal. And Jake also pissed me off saying that spider might betray them for telling where they are like sir that kid is literally a ride or die like did he ever think that the how dangerous humans are especially a military one those people will torture for info when like sir your was once a soldier you know how brutal they are? Did he not even think what will they do to spider a kid? Imagine if quaritch didn't step up that boy brain will melted off. So yes spider deserved better
spiders such a good kid, that like, yeah, by human nature he just wants to be accepted, but like, he so clearly tries to suppress it. like sure, he wears his hair like jake, paints blue stripes on himself, holds himself like they do, but we never see him actually try and force himself into their lives. he follows kiri and lo'ak around because they're his friends and they love him, but other then that, he tries to slink into the background and be useful. he doesn't want to be a burden, a reminder, one with the humans. he literally would do anything, sacrifice anything for the na'vi. he did one thing for himself (saving his father, who was one of the first, if not only adults to ever care about him in his entire life) after years of putting his wants and needs aside, and he gets absolutely shit on. like he's just a baby, who will never fit in anywhere, who "doesn't want" to fit in anywhere (cause 99% of humans suck and he doesn't want to hurt the na'vi anymore than he already does for existing.) and he's just hurting.
I think spider's gonna burn out by the end of these movies. not in the going villain or rouge sort of way, but I think we're definitely gonna see a breaking point where he's just done. cause it has to be so hard to keep going like that for years.
he's gotten kidnapped, tortured, dragged around by the rda, forced to watch brutal tulkun hunts and village raids, watched a sibling die to save him, gotten held at knife point by someone who should be like his mother, knowing she might kill him. he has given his all, and still just kept rolling with the punches like they didn't hurt. and still, everyone seems to expect the worst of him.
and that comment from jake, I took it two separate ways, but I guess they could both coexist;
he didn't trust spider to protect his family, despite the kids undying love and devotion for them, even after he was shown nothing but hate.
and/or
he knew they were going to break the poor kid and get what they wanted from him, no matter what it took.
I don't know which one makes me feel more sick. the thought that jake thought so lowly of spider, or the fact that he knowingly abandoned him to that fate. even if jake wasn't the kids guardian, he could have at least given enough of a shit to feign worrying about him, or mourning spider capture. I understand having to make harsh decisions like valuing the life of many over one (doesn't make it anymore palatable, but y'know, military politics) but like, he didn't give a single shit. that's what bothered me the most. they just forgot about the kid.
with what james cameron has said, I think things are going to start sorta looking up for our boy, but I don't have the most hope he's gonna get a truly 'happy' ending. I think so much damage has been done already, that spiders always gonna be that character that breaks my heart.

"What is your OC's pain tolerance like?" And "What is the worst thing you have put your OC through story-wise?"
You didn't specify an OC so I'm just gonna spin the character wheel since I've been doing that a lot lately
What is your OC's pain tolerance like?
Tumblr media
Oooh, this one's kinda fun!
In short? Inhuman. Jane probably has the most ridiculous pain tolerance known to man.
Apart from the "half-human-half-god except the god part is a whole lot stronger", she was also raised by the Goddess of Time, who tried to make her into a perfect warrior for almost 20 years. She's done almost nothing but train her entire life (she never ate or slept before coming to the Mortal Plane because that's just not a Thing in the Garden). She is, in short, the most perfect soldier ever created.
(Highly specific reference, but you know how in Once Upon A Time (In Space), King Cole specifically built the Rose Reds to feel pain and fear so that they could become better soldiers by overcoming them? Yeah, like that.)
Jane is built to be Theo But Better. She is literally made from a copy or echo of her soul. And towards the end of her life, Theo was in constant pain due to excessive healing and she still kept fighting and acting mostly normally. (I'll post a snippet about that when I write it, I haven't gotten there yet.)
The Goddess of Time also fucked around when she made the souls the Theo clones (Jane is the only one who was stable enough to survive because she basically malfunctioned) by giving them self-regenerating souls. This means that Jane's soul self-replenishes instead of withering away like her sisters', which can cause her to overload when she doesn't use magic for a while. Basically: it's like a closed container to which you constantly add air, with no holes for it to escape through. At some point, the container is gonna explode under all the air pressure. And that's what her body is like.
The only moments she gets overwhelmed by pain are when her soul gets too full, and it causes her to get extremely aggressive, more as a reflex because the only way she learned to use magic was through violence and magic can decrease the "volume" of your soul.
Wow, that was longer than expected...
What is the worst thing you have put your OC through story-wise?
Tumblr media
Ooooh boy. The wheel has served me well.
For this one, you need context on Reiner and Allana, the two people who make up the whole that is Flick. They got soul-fused and it's weird.
Allana is a daughter of the Goddess of Love born during the 20-year cease-fire. And during this cease-fire, Edward Fallin, Master of the Order (Theo's brother? remember him?), is sending his men to kill any demigoddess he can find so the war doesn't re-start.
Well, the first one he manages to kill, two decades into the cease-fire, is Allana (the demigoddesses are slippery, ok?). The Goddess of Love is kinda bummed out about this. She's not mourning like the Goddess of Time mourned for Theo, but she thinks it would be funny if she did. So, for pure entertainment, she decides to get revenge on her sister's pet human (Edward) by cursing one of his children. Because it is a known fact to anyone with eyes that Ed loves his kids more than anything in the world and he's preventing the war mostly because he wants them to live in a time of peace.
Stay with me.
His youngest son is named Reiner (hey look, he finally showed up!) and she decides to fuse the remains of Allana's soul with his, binding them together with a curse. This results in some identity issues, body dysphoria, and general confusion. But that's not all!
The curse binding their souls together is a love curse, meaning that anyone, if exposed to Reiner for too long, will fall in love with him (we're going with the name Reiner for now because they only pick "Flick" a while later). Sometimes this love is platonic and sometimes romantic, but it's extremely intense and always borders on obsession.
"But, Muffin," you ask. "What does this curse have to do with Edward? Wasn't this a revenge against him?"
Yes, and I think you can probably see where this is going.
This curse extends to Reiner's father, Edward. He's the main target actually. There's a whole lengthy analysis about this situation, but basically: the effect of the curse is the most horrible, disgusting twist of a parent's love for their child.
And Reiner knows his father is affected by it, despite him never actually doing anything. He can recognize the look in his eyes and the emotion in his voice because he's seen and heard it so many times before. The curse can't be turned off, it's divine magic. And knowing that even his father, whom he loves dearly and who has taken care of him his whole life, is also a victim of the curse's influence is what makes him run away and try to rip his own soul apart, in the hopes that the curse will be ripped from him as well. And that's where we meet him at the start of book 2.
So, uh... that one felt a bit dark...
Actually, this has plot relevance, so I'm using the tag list: @little-mouse-gardens @wildswrites

I do not regret opening Pandora's box whatsoever, in fact I'll keep opening it over and over again like a gremlin child.
I'M SO GLAD THAT I FOUND SOMEONE WHO LIKES THIS SHIP AS MUCH AS I DO! I was beginning to feel lonely.
An overhaul? Is that another word for a rewrite? If so, can Grey Wing be less forgiving of Clear Sky? He was way too light on him, Jagged Peak should have gone off a lot more about how horrible he was when their mom came to visit. She didn't even find out half the shit he did before disowning him.
And can Grey Wing PLEASE live up to 5 years at least? I want him to be happy with his husband for a little while longer, 2 and a half years is so young. 😭
AND RIVER SAYS HE LOOKED A LOT OLDER WHEN HE WAS LIKE, WHAT, A YEAR AND A HALF? THIS POOR CAT NEEDS A BREAK!
The difference between Grey Wing and River Ripple's lives is insane actually, Grey Wing was going hungry for the sake of others while River was taking food from twolegs and meditating. Grey Wing watched half of his friends die in a battle caused by his paranoid, delusional brother, was almost killed by said brother and blames himself for the deaths. River's camp probably seemed like an unreachable dream.
TRIPPING OVER NOTHING AND CRASHING THROUGH GLASS SLIDING DOORS. HOPPING FROM PAW TO PAW LIKE MY TAIL'S ON FIRE !!!! slash positive words cannot describe the unfiltered joy i get learning that there are people out there who also love my warriors ideas/ships n stuff. stimming so hard i simply stop existing TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION!!! yes yes i do mean rewrite and let me tell you about anon (dotc spoilers beneath the break!) (and a lot of words. like almost too many get ready to read)
starting all the way from the top: i kept fluttering bird alive i don't like it when the erins kill off the babies esp in the first few chapters of knowing them for shock value (and yeah yeah it was motive for the settlers leaving but. the ancients were already starving. they didn't need a little kitten dying to tell them to get moving) bird actually becomes the next stoneteller (at a very young age but i'll tell you what i was inspired by in a second) and passes on her last message, the prophecy of the sun trail ok so first: this one cover of the hobbit's "i see fire." (the one by celtic woman literally so beautiful) with bird singing it. "o' misty eye of the mountain below / keep careful watch of my brother's souls / and should the sky be filled with fire and smoke / keep watching over durin's sons." IS LITERALLY BIRD TALKING ABOUT HER BROTHERS!!! real not false i can see her leaning into the pool in the cavern of pointed stones, begging the world to tell her if they're even alive and getting just blurry images and feelings in return secondly: i think quiet rain would see her kids be burdened with leadership moons before their time and mourn the death of their kithood, as all mothers do. and on the other end, jagged peak. seeing all of his siblings fly above their stations on wings of starlight, while he himself is grounded, literally and figuratively. that he eventually remembers that he's still himself, he's still important and powerful and needed. he is not a burden--even if he's not one of the golden children--and it shows in the fierce love he has for his campmates (btw side note. we need more canon warriors disability rep NOW. justice for my kids.) do note i forget if this happened in dotc originally but now it's tripled. sorry jagged i still love you
as you said, yes. grey wing and jagged peak are lot more harsh to clear sky (and i say this with the most love) (sky is an ASSHOLE.) (rewrite clear sky even more so. ohhhh let me tell you.) circling back around to i see fire. i always thought that fire was very important in warriors, right?? from the first book, we know that the colonies (thunder, at the very least) see fire as this violent, fickle, destructive force that kills off colonies, we see it in how everybody distrusts firepaw when he joins the clan, we see it rip through territories and drive out entire colonies, we see it in the visions warning the healers of impending danger, in the colors of the aura of the sun eclipsed by the dark eye of the moon, in the ripples in the lake stained red with blood at sunset. but in these blazes, there grows new life afterwards. it's the knowledge learned in the ashes, the guilts and mistakes laid raw and bare with no cover to hide it. it's the phoenix dusting itself off, ready to grow stronger on the next cycle. the fire cleanses, the fire takes away, it is a device of nature and a weapon to be feared. enough prose: what am i trying to prove? well. i always thought that one eye had a lot of unused potential as a villain (AND STAR FLOWER. holding my tongue i'll get to her in a second) and slate was a fuckin. waste of time! in the rewrite, one eye uses fire to get his way. the mountain cats have never had many encounters with it (not a lot of fires near a waterfall with 0 kindling opportunities) and that it's been reduced to nothing more than a scary kit-story so one eye can intimidate them with it because he "knows how to control it," and understands how to get it he burns away patches of the blazing star to make a point (star flower gets on his case for this because "YOU MOUSE-BRAINED SCAT OF A DAD. *WE* ALSO NEED THAT."), he burns his followers, and nearly convinces clear sky to burn away all of the territories so they can easily kill and drive out all those who oppose them and rebirth a united nation underneath one eye's watchful gaze. clear sky comes full circle and becomes the very monster he was running from. doing this leaves no prey and will starve all who live in the territory the plague of death follows sky wherever he roams! haha! his siblings absolutely tear into him for this AND all of the other warcrimes he committed. let this freak work to earn forgiveness (also this feeds into why the colonies fear fire) (because this little menace of a man nearly killed everyone including himself) (his practices were deliberately buried so nobody else would get the idea to do that) (OTHER THAN NIGHTHEART BUT THAT'S ANOTHER REWRITE FOR ANOTHER DAY!) even though this is a lot of fire, grey wing does not die to his asthma! i have asthma and IM still alive. why can't he? huh? huh erins? he lives on the moor but he constantly stops by the island to visit his husband <3 all of the kindle cats treat him like one of their own, lift their tails and bunt and purr at him (the apprentices always see him coming from the moor and race to be the first to tell river ripple) night always has to flick river with her tail and be like: RIVER. GO TALK TO GREY WING. YOU'VE BEEN STARING AT HIM FOR FIVE MINUTES?? she also gives them tips on how to care for the younger members of their camps, how to be patient with them ALSO ALSO he AND river raise turtle tail's kids as their own. river calls them young ones, pebbles, minnows (that last one is picked up from arc. bawling) oh and also thunder and lightning tail are also in love. mic drop (my reasoning? they grew up together, they are so best friends to lovers) (and lightning tail gets so obviously jealous of star flower being with thunder it's hilarious) ONCE AGAIN THIS IS GETTING SUPER LONG BUT I WILL GO ON IN ANOTHER POST!!! i have many thoughts in my brain :3

Some of dean’s biggest crimes / worst decisions, words and action-wise,  tend to spawn from when he’s been blindsided and has no clue what tf is going on. Often he doesn’t have all the facts, he’ll be pitted and cornered, and comes to hasty conclusions esp when time is of the essence, acting as the decision-maker he’s had to become over the years, growing up. But then the problem is that he doesn’t realize that he doesn’t need to do that all the time. And that continuing to act that way can be very damaging to himself and those he cares about.
Some examples include soulless sam, the gadreel-possession arc, agreeing to the moc (despite NOT knowing what these vague ‘consequences’ are), his treatment of Jack in early s13 (literal widower just. reacting. to everything and trying/failing to wrap his head around that what they were building up to all during s12 was untrue, and unlearning that, and that Jack is just a kid, who is also an adult somehow, and capable of good!), Dean saying yes to Michael in s13 finale, and of course the divorce arc in late s14/ early s15.
Things happen, Dean didn’t have any actual planned involvement in the things that occurred, like they either occurred behind his back ,or he was cornered into making the best decision he could (whether or not it was ‘right’ or ‘wrong’):
1) Dean asking Death to save Sam’s soul from the cage and have it be returned to his brother, despite being told this could be extremely damaging to him. This due in response to him not knowing that Cas had half-assedly resurrected Sam in s6 without his soul, while Sam’s soul was still getting tortured in hell!!) (a whole other post to be made on that) 2) Gadreel offering to save Sam in 09x01, and Dean taking him up on it, remembering how messed up Sam was and how he didn’t think he deserved to continue to live in a world where he kept fucking up /disappointing his brother, etc. Giving Sam a chance to heal and wanting to tell him at every opportunity he could about the angel possession, but then getting blackmailed by Gadreel into staying quiet, else RIP Sam once again. 3) Dean getting manipulated by Crowley and Cain into agreeing to take on the moc despite not knowing anything about it because he always deals with consequences which he can deal with later, of course!! 4) Cas straight up getting killed in front of Dean’s eyes and him having Zero time to actually mourn properly without getting his world turned upside down by having a kid thrown in his lap, which up until a few episodes ago the plan for everyone had been to kill Jack! 5) Not seeing any other way other than to agree to let AU Michael possess him in order to save both Jack and Sam from Lucifer, resulting in new-brand “michael monsters” who are impervious to regular attacks and then of course Dean not being able to fend off Michael from within aka Michael would be left to roam free and take control of a second earth. 6) Sam and Rowena were off doing one thing in 15x03, Cas and Belphegor were down in Hell (they should NOT have been paired together. Jack was their kid and shouldn’t have been solely paired with any one of them ESP!! not Cas, considering his outright vocalization of the absolute heinousness of Belphegor possessing Jack’s corpse, he is an abomination, Cas can’t even look at him. absolute Dean crimes 100%) - while Dean was waiting by the rupture. The plan with Belphegor fails bc he was evil and a demon, duh, he had his own agenda. This causes Rowena and Sam to take on alternate measures, aka Rowena dies. They all come back together and Dean is again, blindsided. Wtf. -- The plan changed and now Rowena is dead?! That could have been avoidable , he wants to think. But he doesn’t know. He just wasn’t there. - And this is absolutely terrifying for his need to control his surroundings, he feels like if he had been there, if he had been able to be know what was going on, that there could have been a different outcome. And that’s where he’s wrong, because how can we ever know that?
He often says and does things that he feels deeply he knows isn’t right. But he doesn’t know what else is. And then Dean crimes ensue.
