✨ The twins ✨
I read this today and had to draw them:
The constellation Gemini is named after the twin brothers Pollux and Castor. According to legend, Pollux was immortal as he was the son of Zeus, the father of the gods, while Castor had a human father and was therefore a mortal. The two brothers were great heroes and never parted ways. When Castor was killed in a battle, his brother Pollux was inconsolable. He was particularly distressed that Castor had to descend into the dark, subterranean realm of the dead. Pollux asked his father to let him die too, so that he could follow his mortal brother.
Zeus was so touched by Pollux's brotherly love that he suggested that instead of always living with the gods in Olympus, he and Castor should alternate between spending one day in the realm of the dead and one day in Olympus. Without thinking twice, Pollux decided on this option so that he would never have to be separated from Castor again. Later, Zeus is said to have turned the two brothers into stars as a reward for their loyal bond. Since then, they have stood as a constellation in the winter sky, reminding people of brotherly love.

Ω PJO DEMIGOD HEADCANONS:
🍇DIONYSUS; God of Wine making, fertility, theater, festivity, and insanity. 🎭
author's note: I had a sudden idea about writing some headcanons Camp Halfblood demigods being claimed and what it's like for each respective god and cabin, followed by a small blurb afterwards. Thank you for reading and please like and reblog! The order is not in order of the cabin numbers. [PJO DEMIGOD HEADCANONS MASTERLIST]
You get claimed in an untypical manner. You heard of demigods waiting for a sign of their godly parent claiming them, with a glowing symbol above their head. Instead, when you get introduced to the camp members, Mr. D appears carrying a can of diet coke and casually states “No need to put them in the Hermes’ cabin. They're one of mine's”
Cue the record scratch. This immediately brings a lot of confusion and gossip. Many eyes look between you and Mr. D who doesn't seem bothered at all. You saw Chiron sigh and place his hand to his face, giving your godly father a disappointed headshake. Then you hear Castor and Pollux yell that they have a new sibling that they didn't even know about?!
You get a lot of looks of sympathy and jealousy. You don't figure out why until a little bit later on. Chiron fills you in with a reassuring voice but also speaks with an exasperated tone to Dionysus
Although you guys can't make wine or touch anything alcohol related, you did inherit Dioynsus' wine making skills. This includes also being good at making infused drinks or mixing drinks that range from mixing soda flavours together to making your tea blend. Even if the flavours shouldn't work together or whatever the drink type you're making, you just can. You are your own personal barista.
Putting this first and out of the way, you're both in a blessed and awkward situation where you are able to see and interact with your godly parent. Mr. D tries to treat you like every other demigod in Camp Halfblood, and that makes it awkward when you don't know if you should call him “Dad” or “Mr. D”, but at the same time, you know you have it better then others.
It doesn't mean Mr. D doesn't keep an eye out. When you dedicate your offerings to the gods and look at him when you do it, you can just see Dionysus’ face soften and his eyes have a hint of affection.
Don't ask how you or your other half-siblings came to be if Mr. D was sentenced to Camp Halfblood. You won't get an answer from but at least you know you're not alone and the twins are glad to have a baby sibling. Get ready for the youngest sibling treatment.
Dionysus is the God of Theatre so you have a theatrical flare. Even if you're introverted, you're not exempt; this can be applied in how you do certain things or be rather convincing at times. If you're extroverted, well, you're automatically the Theatre kid.
This turns out to be rather useful in events like Capture the Flag in a state of mania. When the heat of the battle starts to get to you, you feel your godly parent's power begin to rise in you and you can use that theaters flair to rouse your teammate's spirits up. You can also get a bit maniac and effect your teammates and enemies alike and become rather terrifying.
You have a bit of a green thumb so you can find some solace with the Demeter kids. However, unlike the Demeter kids who can just make plants grow and flourish, your green thumb only really applies to plants you have an interest in like Dionysus with his grapes…or now strawberries. Regardless, you can keep a houseplant alive at least.
Aside from a few very selected people within Camp, you're one of the few people who has seen Mr.D's true form. Not his godly form or the Mr. D you've seen, but the form he usually shows in front of mortals. Then it becomes very obvious how your other parent became so enamoured. You thank him silently for taking up his current form because you’re not going to be ready to hear about Mr. D being a DILF.
“Welcome to Cabin 12!” greeted Castor and Pollux as they opened the door to the cabin. You looked inside and saw how lived in the cabin was. It was clear the twins didn't expect to have another sibling and judging by the absolute shock that your shared father was supposed to be stuck in Camp, they really didn't expect him to have another mortal child.
You also noticed on one of their nightstands there were stacks of Coke and Pepsi, each belonging to one of the beds. There were copious amounts of it, and you wonder if being a child of Dionysus was a prerequisite of having a drink as your go-to drink. Like wine fo Dionysus…though you heard he had to switch to Diet Coke due to his punishment.
“Yeah, sorry for the whole…mess,” said Castor as he looked sheepish. “Pollux and I weren't expecting anyone else to be here, especially since it's been so long since we've first arrived. And you know, our dad, being, well-”
Pollux cleared his throat, “What Castor means, despite everything, we're thrilled to have a baby sibling. We've always been together so we're not that alone, but every now and again, we kind of get envious of the other cabins and having other siblings.”
You smiled when the door is knocked and a new bunk bed is being brought in, Castor and Pollux grinned at you. “Come on, let's get your stuff and space ready, and let's go see our dad.”

Imagine the heartache of the demigods at Camp Half Blood whose friends left to join Kronos. Did the departed whisper goodbye? Try and convince their friends to join them? Or did those left behind wake up one morning to find the empty bed of another sibling? To see another empty spot on the bench at breakfast? No warning. No note. No need to wonder, because everyone knows where they went. Did the Hermes kids wake up one morning and realize that their cabin, the home of unclaimed demigods, felt spacious for the first time in years?
At the battle of Manhattan, how did it feel to look across enemy lines and see your sibling? A best friend? A crush? A familiar face from across the campfire?
Did Kronos’ army help you feel at home on your first day at camp? Did they carry you to the infirmary after a nasty game of capture the flag? Were they your first kiss? Did they place a steadying hand on your back as you climbed up the rock wall, making sure you were safe?
As demigods on both sides of the war drew their swords, was it like looking in a mirror? How must it have felt, to be prepared to fight and kill someone just like you?

katniss’s internal monologue really makes some tough moments of mockingjay a little funny. labeling castor and pollux as “the insects” because of their suits? her shock at the possibility of having haymitch talking to her 24/7? subconsciously describing peeta as “deranged” instead of hijacked and having to correct herself? i’ve said it before and i say it now, i strongly believe that with a little effort directing those thoughts in another direction she really could become a comedian.

Do you think Dionysus has known Castor and Pollux their whole lives? Do you think he realize the opportunity laid in front of him to actually spend time with some of his kids from a young age and said to their mortal parent “Hey, babe, I can take them over the summer.” Do you think they would drive up to their Dad’s house on the weekends? Do you think Chiron got extremely anxious about the fact that Dionysus was left in charge of two infant children and quickly encouraged the campers to offer to babysit (which they did because they were adorable babies, ofc)? Do you think campers got jealous about their close (but not perfect) relationship with their Dad? I know that it’s generally agreed upon that Dionysus gets campers names wrong so it will hurt less when they die, but do you think he put in extra effort with his own kids because he said Fuck It, it’s going to hurt anyway? Do you think when Dionysus stormed into the Council of Cloven Elders meeting after the Battle of the Labyrinth, he was thinking about baby Castor, playing in the strawberry fields and hanging out with Satyrs and Nymphs in the trees?

We just forgot how weird it must be for outsiders that Camp HalfBlood just has the Dionysus, one of the 12 Olympians, as Camp Director.
Like what do you mean your Camp Director is a primordial immortal being who has been sentenced to community service and enforced sobriety by his father?
Most demigods don't meet their parents a lot in their lifetime and your saying all Cabin 12 has to do is go up to the Big House with a 6 pack of diet coke and can play pinochle to gamble money with their godly parent.

A ROMAN CARNELIAN INTAGLIO 1ST CENTURY AD
A carnelian intaglio showing the busts of Castor and Pollux facing each other wearing their caps. Captured with a neat and precise hand this small intaglio makes up in style what it lacks in size. Orange/brown carnelian.

Demigods at Camp Half Blood that I have decided to claim as Irish because I can:
Lee Fletcher, Son of Apollo (Donegal)
Castor and Pollux, Twins of Dionysus (Also Donegal; Them and Lee Fletcher were childhood best friends)
Damien White, Son of Nemesis (North Dublin)
Shane, Son of Hephaestus (Laois)
Billie Ng, Daughter of Demeter (Sligo)
Bonus: Not Irish, but Malcolm Pace, Son of Athena, is from Glasgow, Scotland.
I may or may not add more to this in the future, only time will tell

Castor and Pollux are actually so sad.
So in the riordanverse, Castor and Pollux are Dionysus’s twin sons.
In mythology, Castor and Pollux were the twin (half and full) brothers of Helen of Troy (and Clytemnestra). Zeus had turned into a swan and uhh… slept with their mother, Leda, the Queen of Sparta, who had also slept with her husband, Tyndareus, the King of Sparta, so the following quadruplets that were born had different fathers. Castor and Clytemnestra were the children of Leda and Tyndareus, and Helen and Pollux were children of Leda and Zeus. Castor and Pollux were identical twins despite having different fathers, and they were inseparable and became known as the Dioscuri.
Long story short, Castor ends up being killed and Pollux is so distraught that he asks Zeus to kill him so that he could be with his brother, or he asks Zeus to bring Castor back to life (the sources in my admittedly brief research varied between the two). In the end, Zeus agrees to split Pollux’s immortality between the two, allowing them to be together in the sky as the constellation Gemini for half of the year, and reside in the Underworld for the other half. They are the Gemini twins.
So, we already know that Rick Riordan likes to make parallels to different Greek Myths with his characters (ex: Clarisse and Silena paralleling Achilles and Patroclus), and this is another sad instance. He gave Dionysus, the son of Zeus, twin sons named Castor and Pollux, and then killed Castor in the Battle of the Labyrinth.
I just wish we got to see more of Pollux’s grief in the aftermath. We get a little bit, when right before they burn the shrouds Pollux goes up to say a few words but can't, but I kind of wish we got to see some of the heartbreaking devotion in Pollux that was in his mythological counterpart.
Anyway, Rick was really out there writing tragedy into even the background characters that had only been mentioned maybe two or three times before.
