This old one is worth a listen even if a restoration comedy of manners isn't normally your thing. I mean, it's got 18th-century wordplay, declarations of love and duelling - why wouldn’t you?

eleanor finding peace in scott's betrayal and bonding with madi.

flint comforting eleanor at the time of her death.

jack saving max by letting her come with him when the spanish invade and also in defence against flint.

anne forgiving max.

madi and silver reconciling at the end.

the many times sliver and flint were against each other.

like some of this shit is actually insane. eleanor tried to kill flint multiple times. she wanted that man GONE, yet she died in his arms. max pretty much nearly got jack killed, and silver went against madi's back to break the one thing she really wanted.

ladies, gentlemen and variations thereupon I've just come to a very important realization. which is, that the 60th dw specials parallel series 4 with 10 and Donna (particularly the RTD episodes)

I can't really explain it but basically;

the star beast = partners in crime (aliens on earth + vibes) wild blue yonder =midnight/turn left(cosmic horror, introspection) the giggle = stolen earth/journey's end (return of a classic enemy)

this struck me when i realized the vibe and the music of the opening of the star beast reminded me a lot of the partners in crime opening

Fan fiction is often a character study and focuses on the quiet moments in between the canon plot, which I love, but which also unfortunately means that most fic authors really struggle to write fucked up characters who are not introspective.

In these stories, blorbos who have buried any uncomfortable emotion they ever experienced deep in the ground and hired a Mariachi band to play by the grave so no one can hear the muffled noises coming from the coffin, who have made an Olympic sport of rationalising their way out of any and all feelings or of acting with as little preceding thought as humanly possible are cookie cutter'ed into sickly Victorian heroines wasting away from the enormity of their sorrows.

I, meanwhile, just want to read fucked up fic about my fucked up blorbos - in which no one has been magically transformed into an angsty teenager.
