Zexal Month Day 21- The Devil
@zexalmonth
Time to someone who had every right to be evil and destructive BE evil and destructive :D
This prompt made me think of an au I made in my head ages ago when watching yugioh 5Ds
Meet the son of the ceo of Astral Corporations, Adrien Sangrave, who duels under the alias named after the family business: Astral.
Tumblr media
Yuma's eyes widened when he saw his opponent walk into the arena. This guy... His mind flashbacked to that alley, the day the WDC had begun. The bodies of hurt, broken duelists. Heart pieces not just scattered, but shattered. The figure of somebody in a flowing cloak and hood perched up on that wall. The already completed Heart glistening in his hand.
That cold, piercing look in those mismatched eyes.
Those mismatched eyes that were glaring at him now
------
Yuma Tsukumo.... how annoying!
What did that child know about him?
On that first duel, he wouldn't stop talking. Talking about friendship and dueling and fun.
So annoying!
Astral's eyes hardened, his fist clenching. It was time for their second duel, after he had beaten Yuma in the earliest round. It was annoying how that boy had lost to him yet still manage to qualify simply through blind luck. Luck!
Yuma and his constant talking. About what dueling meant.
He wanted to talk about what dueling meant?
Fine! He will show him what dueling meant.
Especially when dueling a monster.
As you can see, in this au Yuma and Astral cross paths due to the WDC, and end up dueling each other quite a few times. Astral's backstory is partially based off of Akiza- he's a pscycic duelist whose cards and monsters become real with his duels, and he duels wanting to hurt others because he's been hurt. Unlike Akiza, however, rather than running away or being pushed away for his power, his uncle Elias forced him to train his powers and want to use his powers to gain more power after the disappearance of Astral's father Dominic two weeks after Astral's powers first manifested, leaving Astral, his big brother Damien, and their mother Ena at the mercy of their uncle Elias! And instead of fulfilling Dominic's unkept promise to help Astral learn how to control his power and live a normal life, Elias forced him to make his powers stronger, even at the cost of his health.
Essentially, he's a bitter child soldier, and when he duels he duels with anger, intending to cause pain to others the way he feels pain. Especially to that annoying naive Yuma! How could that child possibly understand his pain? Even if both of them have lost their fathers... Not that Yuma would understand Astral's pain anyway!
Also if you're wondering about the Black Witch thing, that part of Akiza is given to Astral's brother Damien, who ran away from home to escape Elias's nightmare training and insults, and became part of a gang of psychic duelists under the name 'Black Mist', and Astral hasn't seen him in years.
Of course with the WDC, who knows who you'll meet....

Random Short Thing For YGO: ZEXAL I Found In My Drive
Enjoy
WARNING: VIOLENCE
Let us go!" Trey cried, trying frantically to pull away from his and his brother's captor to no avail as he dragged the pair through the factory and led them into a small room. Quattro was throwing himself around, fighting against their captor but could not escape as the pair was shoved to the ground.
"Turn on the lights," their captor spoke into his earpiece and a moment later the lights through the glass revealed the room on the other side of the observation window. Inside the room was a glass chamber with a small form confined to a chair inside, head lowered and motionless. Near the chamber was a man standing at a computer, watching him. The voices on the other side of the glass came through the speaker in the corner of the observation room, "Well, last chance to comply before we start getting impatient, kid," said the scientist at the computer but the form didn't move. With a sigh, the man shrugged, moving forward, and tapped the glass, "Hey. Look up. Do you see the observation area over there? You know those two kids?"
Slowly, the form lifted its head and as the blonde bangs fell away, both Quattro and Trey gasped, horrified. Byron locked his gaze on them, eye empty before they filled suddenly with recognition and he straightened up, eye wide.
"Let them go!"
"Judging by your reaction... and fact that it has been the only reaction we've received from you... I'm guessing these boys mean quite a lot to you, hm? It'd be a shame if they were to get hurt because of your lack of cooperation..." the scientist inquired, smugly and Byron sneered at him, darkly, "Don't make me say it again."
"Right back at you, Kid. Now, what will it be?" the scientist inquired, smirking and Byron scowled, "Release them!"
The scientist seemed disappointed as he sighed and gestured to his college, who pulled out a pistol and aimed it at Quattro's head, grinning. Byron's breath caught and he jerked at his restraints, abruptly, startling the scientist but he still smirked, "Interesting reaction."
"Let. Them. Go," Byron snarled, furiously, glaring at the man who only looked smugger, motioning to his client who laughed and put his finger on the trigger. Trey's eyes went wide and he tore from his distracted captor's grip, throwing himself against Quattro, "No!", just as the guy pulled the trigger and the bang that came after nearly deafened the pair of boys. Trey screamed and Quattro had time to kick his attacker in the groin, sending him to the ground before he knocked him out. Then he turned sharply and scrambled to his fallen brother's side. Trey was crying, softly on the floor, hand gripping his arm, just below his shoulder where he'd been shot. Quattro gently gripped his wrist, eyes wide, "Trey!"
"I-I'm okay...! J-Just hurts...!" Trey whimpered as he pried one eye open and looked up at his brother. Quattro looked up, sharply to glare at the scientist only to gawk in fear at his father instead. Byron's form was emitting dangerous purple and black energy as the boy breathed heavily, eye wide with furious craze before he threw his head back and giggled, madly, struggling in his confinement.
"That was a mistake!" he sang, tauntingly, his voice suddenly multitoned and when he tilted his head down again, his eye glowed a violent purple shade, his smile too wide for his face. Quattro backed away a bit, subconsciously, "Wha-What the hell...?"
Suddenly, Byron screamed with agony, convulsing in the chair as the dark energy seeped through the bottom of the chamber and Quattro jumped, startled before he pressed his hands to the glass, eyes wide, "Let him go! Stop it!"
The middle Arclight pounded on the glass, frantically as Byron screamed until he went hoarse, voice fading and he was left suffering silently. By the time all the energy was gone, Byron was slumped forward in the chair, head lulled to the side. Quattro stared in horror, "Vetrix? Vetrix! Answer me!"
No response came and the scientist laughed, putting something into the computer before he looked back at the pair of boys. Behind them, their captor stood up, scowling, and grabbed his gun, angrily.
"Go ahead and just kill them. They've seen too much," the scientist hummed, nonchalantly and Quattro turned quickly, eyes wide as the man lifted his gun and aimed it at the teen, Trey's eyes widening as well. Suddenly, Byron lifted his head, eye narrowed and he chuckled before it turned to a full-on manic laugh which morphed into a beastly growl as dark energy pulsed through the room, making the lights flicker and the computers explode. Byron's binds snapped and he stood, the blonde boy glaring at their captor who went stiff, dropping the gun, eyes wide. Byron jerked his head back once, the man slamming into the glass, then twice and again before the glass finally shattered, sending the man sailing through. Then Byron jerked his head to the side, slamming the man's head into the brick wall, cracking his skull against the stone.
"What's happening?!" Trey cried, frightfully but Quattro was too entranced to respond. The man fell limp to the ground before Byron turned his gaze, sharply to the scientist who stared at him in horror, "H-How?! How can you still have power?! It's impossible!" he cried, stepping away and turning to run but Byron snarled and lunged forward, grabbing him by the throat, Byron's body levitating several feet of the ground.
"Y-You...You're a... monster..." the scientist gasped, struggling futilely and clawing at Byron's hand. The blonde boy laughed, "What a discovery! Too bad you won't live long enough to tell anyone!" he cried before the scientist’s eyes rolled back, his movement sloppy and his head lulled to the side.
"Quattro, what's going on?!" Trey tried again and Quattro shook his head, tears in his eyes. Byron lifted the scientist up and slammed his head into the desk, breaking his neck. The scientist's body fell to the ground and Byron slowly lowered back to the ground, the dark aura of his fury ebbing away leaving him looking like a tired child, stumbling on his feet, eye half-open. Quattro stood, slowly and locked eyes with the boy before Byron moaned and collapsed on the floor. Quattro gasped, "Vetrix!" and went to rush to his side but stopped, looking down at Trey who read his expression quickly.
"I'll be fine, Quattro. Go help him."
The teen didn't need any further permission as he jumped through the broken window and ran across the area, dropping beside Byron, rolling him onto his back, "Vetrix!"
No response came and Quattro shook the boy, eyes wide, "Vetrix...!"
Again, no reply and he started to hyperventilate, "Dad!"

[fanfic] Taste of Fear
Vector knew exactly what fear was – it was what he made happen to other people. Assuming that he wasn’t twisting their minds in some other fashion. But he knew how to cause fear so very well. If people were afraid of him, then they wouldn’t interfere with whatever he had planned.
In all the long centuries he’d been a Barian – as far as he could remember – he’d never felt fear for himself. If anyone had ever asked him, he would have stated with pure certainty that nothing in this ridiculous human world could possibly cause him to fear.
I don’t like this place. He wouldn’t have gone so far as to call it fear even now, but the deeper he and Black Mist proceeded into these ruins, the more certain he was that he didn’t like it at all.
This place should have been different. It was damp and cold – it should have been warm. Warm enough that not being fully dressed by modern standards wouldn’t have bothered him. Warm enough that his jacket should have been too hot.
How he knew that he didn’t know, any more than he knew which way to go. His body had moved without his mind’s input. And his body told him he should be warm and he wasn’t, and that felt wrong.
But Vector came here with a plan and he knew that sooner or later, Yuuma, Astral, and whoever he’d dragged along this time would show up. Better to get that Number found and be ready when they got there.
Other memories flickered through his mind as they entered another room. Scents that weren’t there teased him. This place should have smelled of something that wasn’t creeping vines and standing water. It should have been a mix of copper and perfumes – there had always been perfumes, dusted about to keep the stench of death down. He’d been the only one who actually enjoyed it.
How can you like that smell, Vector-sama? He could not have said where the voice came from or even if he really heard it. A memory, illusion?
But he knew the answer. There’s no smell sweeter to me. Another.
At first he wasn’t certain of who the first speaker was. But when he saw the Guardian of the Numbers here – oh, yes. He knew. He could not have put a name to them, but he knew who they were regardless.
The royal Executioner. The one who spilled so much blood at his command. One of those few who had been absolutely loyal to him.
Too bad Vector ended up killing him too. But it had been for the best – what he did was always for the best, even if no one else understood that. Which they usually didn’t.
He could hear other voices, too. Screams of pain and terror, howls of madness, demands for clemency, begging for forgiveness. Through it all he knew the response – death for them all.
And he felt the hate that rose up from all the death. Hate of him – hate of what he did. He savored it as one would a fine wine, even if at the same time, he wanted to turn and flee as fast as he could manage it.
But he didn’t. As Black Mist fought to capture the Number, he settled himself into the throne. It felt – different. But not wrong. There should have been at least two cushions there, but instead, the throne held only dust and shadows.
Vector tried to pay attention to the duel, but his mind wandered regardless. He could feel the presence of Don Thousand watching, but the Barian God said nothing at all to him. That was fine; he’d heard enough from him already. He wanted to work this out for himself.
The memories ghosted along – scents that weren’t quite there, sounds on the edge of hearing, sights that came only at the edge of his attention. He didn’t like it.
He knew that the Executioner had been a strong fighter as well. He would never hire someone weak. But perhaps when it came to dueling – not so much.
Did dueling even exist then? He thought it had, in some fashion. He wasn’t entirely sure. The memories refused to come into any sort of proper focus.
But one thing slowly became certain the longer he sat there. He didn’t like it here. He knew that he should have. It was a place of such death, and somehow, he couldn’t quite understand how, he’d been responsible for all of it. But something else lurked behind it all, a growing sense that he wanted out of there.
Black Mist won the duel – not that he’d had any real doubts on that. As the Guardian began to fade away, its head swiveled, staring at Vector. A single phrase floated in the air, or perhaps in Vector’s on mind.
My king...
He was a Barian. He’d never been human. He couldn’t be human. But – the sensations he felt. The memories that brushed against him. The knowledge he had of this place.
Return here and thou wilt know more. But that can be for another time, when our tasks this day are done. Don Thousand advised him. Vector’s hands tightened on the throne’s arms and he nodded ever so faintly.
Though, perhaps it was that he just didn’t know enough and that was why he was so uneasy here. Once he knew then it wouldn’t be like that anymore.
Was that a hint of amusement from Don Thousand? He’d only had the Barian God as a part of him for a short time, but he thought he improved at reading the other’s mood by the hour. He did think Don Thousand could keep things from him.
Yuuma, Astral, and the others approached. Vector got ready for them. Whatever else was going on here, he didn’t care. He wasn’t going to be afraid of ghosts, no matter what had happened. They were dead and he wasn’t.
He wasn’t afraid.
The End
Notes: Vector and his past life are fun to write! And writing this gave me an idea for an AU where instead of Alit being executed he’s sold to Vector, and his Emperor ends up allying with Nasch in an attempt to rectify this.

Favourite colour, music, film, anime? I'm curious
Uuhhh, sorry for the wait, this ask has been waiting in my inbox for a lot by now, but let me answer you. Some of these answers are really long, so I marked them with a title in case people are not interested in everything. Though, I don’t think many people would be interested at all, my life is not that eventful.
Favorite Color
My favorite color is black (even though black is not technically a color, damn you art school why did you have to teach me that), closely followed by blood red and silver.
Favorite Music
My favorite music... I don’t really understand if you’re asking me what genre I prefer, or who do I prefer listening to, so I’ll just go the safe route and answer everything at once.  I love metal (especially power metal, epic metal and folk metal, with a significance preference for its viking sub-genre), and I am in love with Blind Guardian, the first ever band I listened to. I still remember the first song I’ve ever listened, which is “Noldor (Dead Winter Reigns)”. Being a Tolkien fan led me to discover them, and subsequently to fall in love with the genre. Among my favorites there’s also Nightwish, Epica, Alestorm, and I’m baffled by Sabaton and Korpiklaani. I do listen to a bunch more bands, but not as much and I don’t know as many songs.
But it’s not my one and only love. Aside from metal music, I also love classic music (I am deeply in love with a ton of Italian composers alongside the others), dark cabaret music (most notably Aurelio Voltaire, Dresden Dolls and Emilie Autumn, though her style doesn’t really fall into one single category), and I go crazy with anime music and openings.  I appreciate the music of anime so much, even though a lot of people don’t think highly of it, and since childhood I’ve always listened to our “opening singers” (the most important I grew up listening to are Cristina d’Avena and Giorgio Vanni), so I simply cannot stop loving them.  On a similar note, I cannot have enough of movie soundtracks. Composers like Howard Shore, Ennio Morricone, Hans Zimmer... the list could go on forever. I never get tired of their music. Again, videogame soundtracks are on the list of my beloved music as well, especially the music from Skyrim (Jeremy Soule) and Assassin’s Creed (Jesper Kyd).
Favorite film/movie
I don’t really have one favorite. I do have a list of movies that I could watch over and over again, though, and others I just have fun watching even though they’re not my favorites.  The Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit trilogy are absolutely on the top of my list. As I said, I’m a huge fan of Tolkien, and I’m also a huge fan of Peter Jackson. Add them together and BOOM! I am a tiny bit bitter about the Hobbit movies, but seriously? I still loved it.  Right after them there’s ALL the movies by Tim Burton, Alice in Wonderland and its sequel on top. I love Tim Burton, so much I cannot even explain it. And Alice in Wonderland has a very special place in my heart.
[story time, you can skip if you want]
Not just because I love the story and the craziness of everything, but because back in high school (my last year) we decided to do Alice in Wonderland with a twist for our theater lab, and I not only got to write the entire script, but also to play the Cheshire Cat alongside all of my friends. My best friend was Alice, my other best friend was the costume designer, a lot of other people I knew and loved were the other characters. It’s such a delightful memory for me that I never stopped enjoying Alice in Wonderland from that day onward.  I got so involved with my part that I ended up making an entire steampunk-ish cosplay of the Cheshire Cat from scratch, a cosplay I brought two times to a convention and I’m currently renovating after taking it apart. This is how much I grew attached to that play and to that character.  Some years ago, before this, we had a director guiding us for two years of theater lab. A delightful man that looked at me and decided I needed to be addressed as “Alice” because of how much I reminded him of her.  It’s just good memories.
[end of the story time]
I also have the “classics”, like Harry Potter, Star Wars, and the like. If it’s fantasy/sci-fi/something along those lines, I probably love it. Regardless of who made it, being it the writer or the director.  One particular movie that holds a special place in my heart is “The Fall”, and I cannot really pinpoint a reason why I love it so much. I just do.  There’s many titles I can tell you, even more serious ones like “The Imitation Game”, “The Danish Girl”, or “Dallas Buyers Club” and “Fight Club”.  Even though I prefer fantasy themes, there’s significant exceptions.  Old Italian movies are among my favorites too, but they’re just a drop in the ocean.  To close this, I’m going to bring you my love for the entire “Night at the Museum” ordeal and the entire “Jumanji” series (as of now, but I will never love anything more than the original).  I get really excited when I get to talk about this kind of interests, sorry T_T
Favorite Anime
Oh boy.  This sounds like it might be an easy one, given the nature of this blog, but it’s actually not.  In fact, I forgot Saint Seiya was my favorite anime.  You see, I originally watched it when I was nothing but a child, with a memory that obviously wasn’t so good at the time. This eventually led me to forget about how much I loved Saint Seiya, even though its characters never left my mind, and I started gravitating more towards Yu-Gi-Oh!, especially 5D’s. For the longest time I was convinced my absolute favorite was Yu-Gi-Oh!, until I finally started re-watching Saint Seiya and got hit by the memory train.
But let’s not wander too far away from the question. What’s my favorite anime? Of all time is Saint Seiya, hands down. It has so much to offer, so much diversity, so much story and so many characters. Here in Italy, it has one of the most unique dubs of all time, with dialogues that are aulic (for the Italian fans who are curious --> l’origine del registro aulico dei Cavalieri dello Zodiaco è stato deciso da Enrico Carabelli e  Stefano Cerioni ed è spiegato in questo video, ed è poi stato mantenuto da Ivo de Palma nella serie di Hades) and filled with quotes from authors like Dante Alighieri, Ugo Foscolo and more, an “oddity” that made me fall in love again and again.
Aside from this, I have another list, because I honestly cannot bring myself to choose only one.  Above all are Yu-Gi-Oh! (in order from best to worst for me --> 5D’s, Duel Monsters, GX, ZeXal, Vrains, Arc-V), My Hero Academia, and Sailor Moon.  Honorable mentions are Attack on Titan, Black Butler, Another, Pretty Cure ( spent basically my entire childhood/teenage years watching them, my favorites are the first two series), One Piece, Dragon Ball, Naruto, Beyblade, Tokyo Mew Mew... this could go on forever.  I’m a sucker for “old” anime as well, so a lot of them are mostly from the 70′s, 80′s, 90′s. Some of them I was so little when I watched it, like for example Card Captor Sakura (I was like three years old and I dressed up as her for Carnival), that I don’t remember them but they still have a place in my heart.  I wasn’t even fixated on one genre and that was it, I watched the hell out of anime and I still do (when I have time).
I do also watch yaoi (shame on me, I know), and since I’m here telling you about my favorites: I love Dramatical Murder, especially (and you might not believe me) for how creative the story and the worldbuilding are. I’m also shameless enough to have watched the entire game in all its incarnations, so there’s that.  Not only that, I’m shameless enough to have watched more explicit ones, but I’m not telling you ;) I have a reputation here, after all.
This took a long time for me to answer, and I’m sorry. I legit looked at this in my inbox, tried to conjure up some will to write, failed and went back to bed or to my books. Rinse and repeat for an entire week.  And to all of you who actually made it through this entire thing without getting annoyed/bored, damn you’re determined.

Note
Yugioh ask thing 1 3 8 and 20 :>
1)Fav series-Ultimately I'd say Zexal. Impacted me more but getting me back in the franchise and staying for good. I also just love practically every second of the series. Like, I can't think of a character I don't like(Maybe a couple one off characters but even then they at least were entertaining). I don't know, just have nothing but good things to say and could go on forever. Love all the series though, even season 0 and Sevens.
3)Dub or original-Original. Got into this last night with a friend, debated for 2 hrs...at 2am. Dub has changed a lot, cut GX and 5D's short. I just prefer getting the whole story. I like subtitles while watching anything because I can sometimes not hear things correctly so I don't mind reading(I don't read books so I get my reading from something at least). I grew up on the dub though. So in terms of the voice acting DM to 5Ds sounded nice. But I started original at end of 5D's and from there I started preferring the voice acting of the original over dub. I am glad that the dub has finished Zexal and Arc-V though and plans on finishing Vrains.
8)Fav antagonist-Vector. Hands down. Fav character in entire franchise. He's a dick but the kind you love. I could watch him being him all day(Tempted to go rewatch all his scenes now). I enjoy the majority of the main antagonists though. Other noteworthy ones are Pegasus, Marik, Jaden, all of 5D's, Mr. Heartland, Tron, Don Thousand, Black Mist, Yuri, Revolver, Lightning, Ai. However, I think the best antagonist is Jean Roget. Simply because he is the type of character everyone hates, has no sympathy for, and makes you root for the hero to beat them. He was just an awful man that failed at everything he did and that was just enjoyable to watch. Seeming him slowly breakdown was great too. Fitting he got trapped between dimensions and never heard of again. Got what he truly deserved.
20)Least fav season-So I'll make it clear now, I have no arc or season I didn't like. Seen and enjoyed them all. However, I would say maybe Arc-V with the Fusion Dimension arc. It just had a ton of potential but ended up wasting it. Not to say there wasn't really great moments in it though, but just a lot of meh ones too.

My Review of Arte
Tumblr media
How did I get into this anime? Well, I had a few slots open for the spring 2020 anime season! Let’s read what this anime is about.
Tumblr media
A girl during the Renaissance era in Florence, Italy wants to be an artist…
*ADDS THIS IMMEDIATELY*
I really don’t want to be disappointed with this. I have a horrible habit of adding animes where the main concept has to do with the art world. And have it go wrong when the anime is too boring or not enough love is given to it. But maybe this will go well! The manga is already getting high marks and praise. And for being a history piece, it got picked up rather quickly from a big anime licensor in the west.
Arte comes from a noble family and her family has plans for their daughter. It’s just that Arte is heavily into…well…art. They’re fine as long as it’s only a hobby, but it’s getting a little out of hand for Arte’s mother. Arte wants to become an artist! BIG problem! This is Italy during the Renaissance era. No women artists! But Arte persisted by asking all around to become an apprentice.
Tumblr media
The only man to even give her a chance was an artist named Leo. After testing her endurance, he allows her to become his apprentice. Arte’s life is officially changing as she throws away her nobility to draw and paint.
BETWEEN THE SUB AND THE DUB: FUNimation grabbed this anime. Surprisingly, they didn’t give Arte a simildub. Quite possibly because this was one of those newer animes that arrived during the COVID-19 nightmare! Or they didn’t want to fuck with Italian accents this time around! The sub had a nice mixture of veteran and newer seiyuus. Color me surprised when I heard Rie Tanaka’s voice again near the end of the series. Here’s what you might recognize these folks from.
*Arte is played by Mikako Komatsu (known for Mairin on Pokemon XY, Seishirou on Nisekoi, Susamaru on Demon Slayer, Wy on Hetalia, Eternal Feather on Soul Eater NOT, and Tori on YGO Zexal)
*Leo is played by Katsuyuki Konishi (known for Kamina on Gurren Lagann, America on Hetalia, Tsumugu on Kill la Kill, Laxus on Fairy Tail, Tanaka on Durarara, Fuegoleon on Black Clover, and Arima on Tokyo Ghoul)
Tumblr media
FAVORITE CHARACTER: Arte! This girl wants to pursue a career in the arts and will do whatever it takes to do so. She defies her mother’s wishes, cuts her long hair, almost cuts off her breasts, did all the impossibly difficult tasks other apprentices could never do, and so much more. You have to admire this crazy, little lady.
Tumblr media
SHIPPING: In episode 3, Arte started feeling that light and fuzzy feeling many of us feel when we “fall” for someone. And she started to feel funny whenever she was around Leo. This would be fine and dandy except for a few issues. For one thing, Leo is her boss and she’s his apprentice. Best to keep things professional! Secondly, during this period in time, Veronica does have a point. It’s best that if you want to achieve in your craft in a man’s world, it’s best to stow the romance bags to the side. After that bag of reality was dropped on Arte, she mostly focused on her art work and no romance was ever brought up again.
Although, I do have an inkling about Yuri having the hots for Arte! But I know my girl Arte here don’t have time for this boy’s bullshit!
Tumblr media
LEO AND ANGELO: No, this isn’t a shipping debate. Actually, there are fans of the show speculating if these two characters are in fact the famous artists Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo. Come on now, this story is absolute fiction with a few true details here and there. Yes, we still don’t know the full name to Leo to prove that he could be the fictionalized version of the real-life artist and the anime never once put up an advisory at the beginning of every episode saying that any character that’s similar to real-life people is purely coincidental. But it’s possible that these two could very well be those very artists. Both da Vinci and Michelangelo were living Florence around the same time. I’ll chalk this up to you history buffs and conspiracy theorists out there. I choose to believe the creator of Arte just used the names of these artists and that’s that!
ENDING: During the 7th episode, Arte is given an opportunity to go to Venice to become a tutor for a handsome man’s niece and to paint a portrait of his sister-in-law. At the time, Venice was seen as a staple in the art world (despite Florence’s rich history that we know today) and this would be a perfect time for Arte to spread her wings. I mean, she won’t be an apprentice under Leo forever, right?! Yeah, Leo’s words to Arte before she left for Venice played around her head a lot during her stay in Venice. Saying that it’s okay if she chooses to stay there longer than six months or even stay permanently!
Tumblr media
During this time, Arte was able to find ground with this difficult child (Catalina) that she must tutor as these two do share something in common. Both girls have a certain passion that they want to hone as their own, but can’t due to family forbiding it, status in the world, and even gender. Arte did so much to get where she is now including disobeying her mother by leaving home and try in a profession that’s mainly for men. Arte was unable to do much with her relationship with her family (especially after her father’s death), but she was able to help Catalina and her mother with theirs and even hope for a future where Catalina can see a boy she likes again.
As we near the end of this series, we find Arte still wondering about her future. She’s still seen as the rarity as being a woman of nobility entering the art world when that profession is usually done by people seen as lower than nobles and majorily male. Plus, what Leo said before setting for Venice keeps replaying in Arte’s mind. It’s true that this time Arte has spent in Venice with Sofia and Catalina was life-changing. And Yuri ended up asking Arte to stay with the family permanently. Meanwhile, Leo is noticing that maybe, just maybe, he’s missing Arte. That or he’s annoyed by all the people in Arte’s circle bugging him.
In the finale, Arte has reached a conclusion on where she’s going to go after finishing up Sofia’s portrait. She got some decent advice from one of the apprentices she met in Venice. That Arte should use her nobility and gender to her advantage in a male dominated profession. Okay, he didn’t exactly say that, but you get what I mean. There’s a certain softness to Arte’s work that’s not seen with many male artists. She should continue doing what she loves despite what others may say or think.
So in case you’re wondering, she turned down Yuri’s proposal of staying with Sofia and Catalina full-time. She’s going to head back to Florence and continue as Leo’s apprentice. Yeah, Catalina is pretty upset by Arte leaving after spending over six months with them. But they promised to keep in touch with letters. Upon Arte’s return to Florence, she learns about Leo doing a special mural for the Easter holiday. But Leo got ill and has been bed-ridden for days.
Tumblr media
Arte steps in and takes over the mural so that it could be completed in time for Easter. With a little help from her friends like Darcia, Angelo, and Veronica, she was able to complete it. And just in time for Leo to emerge to give his critique on Arte’s work. As usual, he told her on what she should have done, but acknowledges that she has definitely grown as an artist during her time in Venice and is happy to see her again. Surprisingly, that wasn’t the only shocking moment of the finale.
Arte’s mother was there for the unveiling of the mural and actually praises her daughter. I guess she’s come a long way from the first episode where she burned all of Arte’s drawings. So yeah, girls can be more than just bargaining tools for marriage or becoming nuns. So Arte’s going to continue working under Leo and we end there.
Tumblr media
I can already tell you that many people were not digging this anime, but I liked it. But again, painting is my thing. And being a female, I’m drawn to stories of girls trying to overcome prejudice just because of their gender. Even when studying art in school, most pieces that were covered in the curriculum were majority (if not, all) male. Well, unless I took a class with a supremely feminist teacher, we would not learn anything about female painters. And if we did, it would just be for like one day or one week out of the semester before we get to the well-known names like Van Gough, Pollock, and Monet.
By the looks of it, Arte doesn’t look like it’ll get any kind of continuation. I know that the manga is still in publication and maybe if that ends we might get something extra. But I wouldn’t hold my breath on that one. Even FUNimation didn’t bother giving this an English dub. Then again, this aired during the height of the COVID pandemic (in Japan) In fact; it was one of the very few animes in the spring season that never took a week off due to COVID. I would like to see what happens to Arte in the future. Like if she ends up with her own workshop or if she takes over Leo’s place when he retires. It’s fun to think of what happens and I might just one day pick up the manga to see if any of that actually happens. Due to my particular love of painting, I’m going to recommend this series regardless. And while you’re at it, check out some other series like Honey and Clover or Hidamari Sketch.
If you would like to watch this anime, FUNimation and Hulu have all 12 episodes available for streaming.

Title: Stadium Arcadium
Chapter: 4
Series: Yugioh Zexal
Pairing: Kite/reader
Stranger things have happened, both before and after noon.
"Stay close to me, Hart." Kite squeezed his little brother's hand as you all approached an intersection. When the pair halted, waiting for the crosswalk light to change, Hart reached out to you too; Kite scoffed quietly as you took Hart's tiny hand and smiled down at him.
"Is there anything else you want to do while we're out, Hart?" You casually swung your joined hands, the smile on your face growing as you noticed Kite gritting his teeth. Was he jealous-?
Just across the street was a small park- a spot of natural greenery among Heartland's unnatural fluorescence. You'd intended to walk past it, but something caught Hart's eye, and he slowed.
"I want. . . ice cream." He licked his lips as he stared off into the distance; still holding his hand, you crouched to follow his gaze. Kite remained towering over you both.
Set up near the park's decorative water fountain was a colorful pastel cart, the uniformed man scooping out sweets for a cheery family. You're suddenly overtly aware of the sun beating down on your neck; sweat, dripping down your back, making your shirt stick to your skin. You spared a glance at Kite- despite being dressed in his long black coat, he seemed completely unaffected by the weather, even smirking at your flushed face. Can you make a face at him without getting fired-?
"Anything you want, Hart." Kite's voice is surprisingly gentle as he leads his brother further into the park. You let go of Hart's hand, trailing behind the pair of boys a little ways; although this entire outing was your idea, you almost felt like a third wheel, imposing on a family time they never got to have.
Not wanting to overstay your welcome, you wandered off to one of the brightly-colored benches  across from the fountain. It had been a long day already.
Hart had to stretch up on the tips of his toes to see the full spectrum of flavors in the cart. Kite couldn't help but smile at the serious look on his brother's face. Hart glanced over his shoulder to ask your opinion; he frowned a bit deeper when he noticed you weren't with them, but turned back to his decision-making when Kite tugged on his hand.
You looked up from your d-pad when shadows fell over the screen; although Hart's golden eyes are dull, he mimics a smile as he holds out a hand, offering you an ice cream cone. "We didn't know what flavor you'd want," he mutters, hoisting himself onto the bench next to you, "so we just got vanilla. . ."
"Well, thank you! That's so sweet!" You smile back at the two boys. Kite looks away from you.
"If you make a big deal of it, I'm taking it outta your next paycheck."
"Yessir, Mr. Tenjo."
Kite crouched down in front of Hart, who was digging into his ice cream as carefully as possible to avoid spilling any. "We've done a lot today, Hart; have you had fun?"
Hart just nods thoughtfully. His free hand finds its way to yours, resting on the bench- a flash of frustration crosses Kite's face, but he buries it quickly. Hart bites into his waffle cone. You watch the brothers carefully; while you certainly hadn't expected either of them to make a full 180, seeing them interact all day provided at least some insight into their dynamic and personalities. Kite ran aggressively hot-and-cold, only ever smiling at his brother; Hart was clearly trying his best to mimic the things he'd seen other children doing, and now you were sure today was his first time outside in quite awhile.
You finish your ice cream as the sun begins setting. Kite pulls himself back up to his full height, offering his hand to his brother. "Time to get going home, Hart."
The smaller boy nods and reaches out- but then he pauses, open hand hovering, and starts looking around blankly. The atmosphere seems to deflate instantly. Something hangs in the air, suffocating, sending anxiety pulsing through you in waves. Kite tenses, snatching Hart's hand and guiding his brother closer to you. He stares down at you with his eyes steeling over.
"Take him home, now." His voice is fierce, the air practically crackling around him. You nod and grab his brother's hand, trying to smile at Hart, who is clearly unnerved.
"Heya, let's go back to the tower, kiddo! You wanna go through all my cards when we get back?" You try to keep him engaged as you pull him along  but you do spare one more glance at Kite, who is shadowed in the setting sun.
As soon as you and his brother are out of sight, Kite begins quietly stepping further into the park, hand resting on his deck box. The aura in the air is unmistakable. A shadow falls over his vision in the dying light; he looks up just as Orbital 7 transforms and drops out of the sky, landing awkwardly on the stone pathway. "Master Kite, a Number!"
"I know," Kite hissed. "Keep your voice down. Do you have a location?" Orbital whirs for a moment as he pulls up a map; Kite studies the projection closely, memorizing the location, and then takes off at a sprint. It's so nearby, using Orbital for transport would be a waste.
He slows as he rounds the corner into the gardens. A cacophony of voices is echoing over the decorative hedges, one clearly more manic than the others as the sounds of a duel come to a close. Kite nods at his robotic assistant. "Do it now, Orbital."
☆☆☆☆☆
You kept a tight grip on Hart as you pulled him back to the crosswalk. He was incredibly quiet; hopefully that strange feeling hadn't negated the fun day you'd had together. "So, Hart, what was your favorite part of today?"
He peers up at you. "I liked seeing all those dogs." His eyes widen at the memory. "They were really smart, watching them do tricks was cute."
You giggle too. "You're right! Have you and your brother ever owned a pet-?"
The world around you falters. A wave of electricity seems to slam into you, almost knocking you off your feet- you manage to catch yourself as you stumble, turning to catch Hart as he falls forward too.
"What- what was that, [Name]?!" The young boy wraps his arms around you tightly. You look around for the source of the impulse, only for a sense of dread to settle in the pit of your stomach.
Birds hover in midair. Traffic has completely frozen in the middle of the intersection. Pedestrians, frozen in mid-stride, coats and scarves flowing in a wind that wasn't there. The world was soundless.
You pull yourself from Hart's grasp. A rush of adrenaline pours into your veins. Something is horribly wrong. Hart presses himself up against you, curling his fingers through your belt loop, trembling. "I want my brother," he whispers, although it may as well be a shout into the world's silence.
"We need to get back to Kite," you agreed. Hart nods solemnly, taking your hand again as you turn back to the park. The walk back is terrifying- your footsteps on the pavement are the only sound for what seems like miles. When you step back through the gates, Kite is nowhere to be seen, and your stomach sinks further.
"Hart," you kneel down to be on his level, "I want to to stay right here, okay? I'm going to find your brother."
The little boy nods hesitantly. You watch him take a seat on the same bench you'd occupied earlier, and then you're off through the tall grass towards the hedge gardens in the distance.
The sunset had frozen in the sky, so you're delving into shadows as you step into the hedges. This is the only possible place Kite could've gotten to- god, what was going on? The crunching of grass and twigs under your foot is almost deafening. Your skin seems to tingle out of anxiety.
"Are you ready to repent?"
Kite's voice cuts through the silence, startling you, but also flooding you with a sense of relief. You round the corner into a small clearing in the middle of the hedge maze- just in time to see Kite delve his hands into a man's chest, withdrawing an orb of light that shatters in his grip.
Kite releases the man, who crumples to th ground, visibly aging several decades; his dark hair grayed instantly, his eyes growing dim as he collapsed.
You take a step backwards. "Mr. Tenjo-?!"
Kite and Orbital both whirl on you. "I told you to get back to the tower," Kite snarls. He strides closer, driving you back several steps. "Where's my brother, you're supposed to be watching him-"
You stumble backwards into the hedges. Your gaze jumped from the intense man in front of you to the unconscious man behind him.
"H-Hart is. . ." you almost winced at how your voice shook, "Hart is okay, he's back by the fountain. Something weird happened and we were worried about you." Shaking, you meet his stormy eyes. "What the hell was that, Mr. Tenjo?!"
Kite scoffs and turns to march back through the hedge path, Orbital rolling along with him, twisting his robotic self to stare. "You. . ." Kite doesn't look back at you. "Time has been distorted. You shouldn't be able to move so freely."
You blink up at him, not really understanding what that's supposed to mean- but with the thunderstorm practically brewing around him, now is definitely not the time to ask.
Hart looks up quickly as you step out of the hedges. His eyes widen; he scrambles off the bench and sprints over, wrapping his arms around his brother as Kite drops to his knees with open arms. "Brother! I was worried- I'm glad [Name] brought you back. . ."
Kite's grip instinctually tightened as he glared up at you. At his side, Orbital mutters something and lets off a small electric shock. Suddenly, the world fades back in; the flapping of wings as birds resume their flights, the roar of traffic and voices from beyond the park's fence. You looked away from Kite's intense stare, and he just squeezed his brother once more.
"Time to go, Hart."
☆☆☆☆☆
Understandably, you'd been sent home early. Hart had seemed mildly worried when Kite coldly dismissed you; you'd passed Dextra on the way out of the tower, and she'd given you a sympathetic look. You just held your head high, confident you'd done nothing wrong.
From the top of the tower, Kite watched you walk through the colorful streets, lit up by streetlamps fighting off the moonlight. A reflection in the window caught his eye; Hart, stumbling into the room, quietly chewing on the remains of the sandwich his brother had haphazardly thrown together.
"Why did she leave?" His voice was barely a whisper as he joined his brother in watching your retreating form.
Kite knelt down and spoke gently. "Her job is to take care of you- she left you alone, so she got in trouble."
Hart frowned, pressing his jelly-stained hands to the glass. "I'm not helpless. I wanted her to find you." He glances up at Kite's reflection out of the corner of his eye. "[Name] makes better sandwiches than you do. Will she be back?"
Kite had to look away from his brother's pleading eyes. Mr. Heartland's orders echoed in his mind, joined by one reverberating question. How had she done that? "Probably. We're supposed to keep her around for awhile."
"Supposed to? Does that mean you didn't want her?" Hart muses quietly, tracing constellations in the window, leaving streaks of jam on the glass. Kite didn't answer.
☆☆☆☆☆
The hospital elevator isn't nearly as smooth or quiet as those in the tower. You're sure you can feel every jolt and rattle in your bones. When the doors slide open, you step out into the clinically white hallway, nodding acknowledgement at the familiar women at the nurses station.
Your mother's room is in the corner of the floor. Although it's really not very late, the lights are out when you open the door; given that Heartland is keen on aesthetics- and the mayor himself seems personally apologetic about your family- this room has massive windows overlooking the city. The light from below work wonders that hospital lights never could.
". . . heya, Mama." You whisper as you approach the lone bed in the middle of the room.
Your mother lay there; pale, emaciated, bandaged, strung up to various machines like a fly caught in a spider's web. The steady beeps of her heart monitor are the only response to your voice. Looking at her makes your stomach churn- you step over to the window instead, your gaze flickering between your mother's reflection and Heartland tower in the distance.
The city below you almost feels alive. The tower itself is lit up like a miracle, rising in front of the moon like a proud rival, finally gaining the advantage. The cable cars in the distance have lights that blink in intervals. Further away is the familiar Ferris wheel that dominates the center of the ever-present carnival, the lights flashing in patterns and never repeating. Beyond all of that, though- the walls that separated you from everyone else loomed, reminding you that you don't belong this deep in the city. It's difficult to believe that any of today's events could happen in such an electric city like this.
"I'm working for Heartland now too, Mama. Did you ever know about the family living in the tower-? I was hired to watch the youngest kid." A memory of Hart writhing in pain flashes through your mind; you shut your eyes tightly and turn your back to the window, leaning against the glass.
"Mama. . ." You bite your lip. "If you ever. . . learned something that you don't know what to do with. How would you handle-?" You just watch her limp form, knowing that the years of turning to her for advice are far behind you.
At some point as the night wears on, you checked your d-pad for the time; since you'd stormed out of the tower, you'd received a message from the mayor himself, suggesting you take the following day off and resume work after that.
Anxiety gnawed at you, settling heavily in your stomach as you stepped into the hallway, gently closing your mother's door behind you. Since visiting hours are coming to an end, the ward is practically empty- still, you somehow find yourself turning the corner and slamming headfirst into someone with a thud. You both stumble backwards.
"Oh my gosh, are you okay?!" You reach out to steady the boy, who is grimacing and rubbing where your forehead had smacked into his collarbone.
"You don't look like you'd be so hardheaded," he mutters. He brushes his purple hair aside and tugs down his shirt collar, making sure he isn't bruising, and you have to resist the urge to roll your eyes.
"If you can be a smartass, you're fine." You cross your arms and look him up and down as he snickers.
The visitor's pass hanging around his neck is reminiscent of your own; the fading colors and chipped plastic betraying the fact that it was old and well-used. Even though he was playfully sneering down at you, there were bags under his deep blue eyes, and his general aura is one of exhaustion. You can feel your indignation melting away into solidarity.
"Hey. Whatever you're going through, best wishes."
His smarmy grin fades as he catches sight of your own personal visiting pass. His harsh face softens the tiniest bit. ". . . same to you."
He brushes past you, and for some reason you can't explain, you're compelled to watch him down the sterile hallway. His hair and clothing- dark shades of purples and grays- make him look like a wandering soul manifested amongst the stark white. He disappears into the room next to your mother's; once he was out of sight, you resume your journey to the elevator, uncomfortably aware that your tragedy isn't the only one.
[,,gentle reminder that I'm relegated to mobile for the foreseeable future, in addition to schoolwork and bad family leaving me with little safe time, so I apologize for any typos or general awkwardness]

My Favorite Anime OPs and EDs from 2010-2019
Tumblr media
No one asked for this, but i’m doin’ it anyway cuz there’s so many songs out there that i’ve never heard anyone talk about. like, y’all sleep on Yu-Gi-Oh! apparently. lmao
Going by release year, here’s all the OPs and EDs i can remember that i luv (and still do to this day). i may or may not have gotten all the years right. hell, i’m not even sure i got the OP and ED numbers right.
It’ll go by: Song Name - Artist (Name of Anime and Which OP/ED it is) an asterisk means i REALLY like it above the rest.

Soul Eater: Zexal!
Its a new year at the DWMA, and that means fresh new faces for the academy! Following in his parents' footsteps, Yuma Tsukumo joins the school for fun, adventure, and long lasting friendships.
For Zexal Month Day 15: XYZ Beyond Time! (The Crossover Day!)
Warnings: Soul Eater AU; Multi chapter fic
Characters: Yuma Tsukumo, Astral, Ryoga Kamishiro, Rio Kamishiro, Durbe, Lord Death, Sid Barrett
[Read it here on AO3!]
The sun was laughing high in the cloudless sky, looking down over the Death Weapon Meister Academy as new students began to gather at the entrance of the school, each separated into one of two groups: Meisters, or Weapons.
The students were all chattering amongst themselves, and only quieted down as Lord Death made himself known, towering above the crowd of children as he spoke in a playful tone. "Why yes, hi, howdy, hello! What's up, kiddos?"
There were scattered greetings returned to Lord Death, though most people were silent, not having expected the Lord of Death to greet them in such a... playful way.
"It's great to see a bunch of fresh new faces for the academy!" Lord Death continued, gesturing to the crowd of students with a large, oversized, gloved hand. "Now before we get right down to business and head inside, there's the matter of matching you kiddos up with a partner! So take this time to get to know your future classmates, and find yourself a suitable partner!"
-------------------------
Ryoga and Rio Kamishiro stood somewhat away from the large group, Ryoga folding his arms as he watched the other students mingle with one another. "This is stupid, Rio." He said, leaning against a pillar. "There's no point in me talking with any of these other people when I know exactly how this is going to turn out."
"Oh?" Rio asked, brushing some dust off of her skirt. "And how, exactly, do you expect this to turn out?"
"We're just going to end up together, as always." Ryoga bemoaned, "You can go see if you can find someone, but I'm just going to wait here for you to come back."
Rio gave a 'hmph!' and turned on her heel, intent on finding herself a Meister to prove her brother wrong.
As she made her way into the group of students, there were many boys and several girls eyeing her up and down, until a boy came up and began talking to her. "Hey there, pretty thing. You wouldn't happen to be looking for a Meister, would ya?"
Internally, Rio rolled her eyes, but on the outside she simply smiled. "Yes, I am." This garnered the attention of several more meisters around her, as rhe boy who spoke stepped forward.
"Well look no further, you've found your Meister!" He pointed to himself with a thumb, giving Rio a cocky grin. "Why don't you show me your weapon form and I'll show you just how compatible we could be."
Rio's smile became much more forced at that, but she shifted into her weapon form nonetheless, an ice blue shortsword, cold to the touch. She found herself on the ground in a clatter, as the boy struggled to pick her up off the ground.
"Augh, whats with you? Why are you so heavy?!"
"I'm not heavy," Rio countered, her voice emanating from the sword, "My brother can wield me just fine. You're just not as compatible as you thought, now are you?"
With a growl, the boy stopped trying to raise her, as another student tried to do the same and failed just as pathetically. This went on for quite a bit, before a young woman was able to slowly pick her up, struggling the entire way. It took the young woman a few moments to raise Rio up to the sky, but the minute she did, their soul wavelengths crashed into each other, not meshing at all. The action sent the girl reeling, and she unintentionally tossed Rio through the air.
Rio braced herself for impact as she flew through the air, staying in her weapon form, and was surprised when a hand reached out and grabbed her by the hilt, holding her up to the sky. The students who had been previously trying to use Rio watched in shock, as this boy who'd grabbed her was holding her with ease, and wasn't recoiling from the difference in soul wavelengths.
In fact, her soul wavelength was thrumming in time with his, and it felt...well, not exactly like when hers and Ryoga's wavelengths were in tune, but it was damn near close.
The boy who'd caught her was barely taller than Ryoga; he wore glasses, along with a white buttondown shirt and a black waistcoat, as well as a green scarf. He lowered his arm so he could look directly at the shortsword in his hand, and spoke. "Are you alright?"
The blade of the shortsword dematerialized and was replaced with Rio's upper half, who nodded in response to his question. "Yes, I'm alright, thanks to you."
The boy smiled and shook his head, "It was nothing. My name's Durbe. And you are?"
"Rio, Rio Kamishiro." Rio smiled back at him, before looking down to the ground. "Would you mind letting me go now?"
"Right, sorry." Durbe let go of the hilt of Rio's blade, and no sooner than he did, did she shift out of her weapon form, her feet landing firmly on the stone floor beneath them. "There you go. Well, it was nice to meet you." He said, beginning to turn with the intent of walking away.
Rio gave him a funny look, shocked that this Meister who handled her without any issue was just walking away as opposed to ogling over her like most people did. "I'm surprised that a partnerless Meister is passing over a weapon they flowed well with."
Durbe stopped and turned back to look at Rio. "As honored as I'd be to be your Meister," he began, raising his hand to motion to the tag on his chest. "I'm looking for one myself."
Oh, Rio realized. His tag said 'Weapon', too. What a shame, she could have proved Ryoga wrong by showing back up with a Meister that would have matched her soul's wavelength. Wait... if Durbe matched her soul wavelength... it'd make sense that he'd match Ryoga's too, right?
Rio smirked then and folded her arms. "What if I said I could find you one?"
"I doubt it," Durbe said, shaking his head. "No one's wanted me as their weapon."
Rio frowned at that, tilting her head just slightly. "Why's that?"
"Because I'm not exactly a 'weapon', per se." Durbe pushed his glasses up then, looking somewhat embarrassed. "My weapon form is a metal shield; A heater shield to be exact, one that curves and comes to a point on top."
"A shield?" Rio murmured incredulously. This was the first time she'd heard of someone's weapon form being something more defensively based as opposed to offensively based. People were usually swords or scythes or something of the sort, but a shield? She took a moment to think, before smiling knowingly. "I don't think that will change anything. Follow me."
With nothing to lose, Durbe agreed, and followed Rio as she made her way back to Ryoga, who was still leaning against the same pillar.
"Back so soon?" Ryoga questioned with a smirk.
"Oh, hush." Rio chided, before gesturing a hand to Durbe. "This is Durbe. Durbe," Rio looked to Durbe then, now motioning at Ryoga. "This is my twin brother, Ryoga."
"Your twin?" Durbe inquired, looking between the two. "It's nice to meet you, Ryoga."
"Really? This nerd is your partner?" Ryoga asked with a bit of snark to his tone, causing Durbe to frown slightly and Rio to put her hands on her hips.
"Nope," Rio replied, leaning in a bit, a mischievous grin on her face, "He's yours." With that, she looked to Durbe. "Do you mind showing us your weapon form?"
Durbe shook his head, and quickly shifted from his human form to his weapon form, which was true to his word, a white metal heater shield. Ryoga instinctively caught Durbe before he hit the ground and blinked frowning as he begrudgingly strapped Durbe to his left arm. He was about to make a comment about how in the hell would he be able to use this guy as an actual weapon, but as Ryoga took note of their matching soul wavelengths, he kept his mouth shut, but frowned nonetheless, a low hum escaping him.
"Well?"
Ryoga looked at Rio upon hearing her knowing tone. "His soul wavelength matches almost as well as yours does." He admitted. When Rio smirked and nodded, he rolled his eyes and looked down at Durbe. "Alright, nerd. What do you have to say about this?"
"My name is Durbe, not nerd, first off." Came Durbe's voice, emanating from the shield. "Secondly, I'm willing to see where this partnership takes us if you are."
"Can you attack at all?"
"Not to my knowledge." Durbe explained, sounding downtrodden, "But perhaps I just need a Meister to draw out my latent abilities."
"Hmm." Ryoga frowned still, but sighed and shrugged his shoulders. "I guess I can work with that." He looked to Rio then, who looked pleased with herself. "And what about you? You still haven't found yourself a Meister."
Ryoga's only reply was Rio saying, "Catch."
With that, Rio lunged for her twin brother, quickly shifting into her weapon form, and Ryoga was quick to catch her, wielding her in his right hand. The moment his hand grabbed at the hilt of her blade, he gasped, feeling the power of two different soul wavelengths mesh in near sync with his own. It was unlike anything he'd felt before, unlike how he felt simply wielding Rio by herself. He didn't know how to describe it, but if he had to put it into words, it was like his soul was humming a tune, and both Rio and Durbe's souls managed to not only match his tune, but find their own respective harmonies to compliment it.
"I think..." Ryoga said after exhaling a breath he hadn't even realized he'd been holding, "I think we can make this work."
Simultaneously, Rio and Durbe shifted out of their weapon forms and were soon standing on either side of Ryoga. Looking at themselves amazedly. They surely had felt it too, the same near synchronization that Ryoga himself had felt... They both looked at Ryoga, Durbe with a weak smile on his face, and Rio practically grinning from ear to ear. "I think we can too, Ryoga." They both looked at Durbe then, who was still looking at his hands in awe. He looked up then, feeling the twins' gaze upon him, and nodded in agreement.
"Yes, I think this will work."
---------------------------
Yuma Tsukumo watched as a purple haired Meister paired up with two weapons - a sword and shield - and pouted, rubbing the back of his head with a hand. "Man, I hope I find a partner soon." He looked down at his Meister tag, then began walking around, trying to find a weapon who he could match up with. He was met with nothing but denials and refusals, all from weapons who'd already partnered up with other Meisters.
"Gah!" Yuma used both hands to scratch at his head, a look of duress on his face, "Why is this so hard?!" All he wanted to do was find a partner to be best friends with and go on cool adventures and---
"Alright kiddos," Lord Death announced, "Everyone seems to have found themselves suitable partners! Let's start heading inside!"
"W-Wait, what?!" Yuma asked, his cry going unheard by Lord Death due to the chatter of dozens of students excited by what awaited them, "Does everyone have a partner but me?"
As the students began funneling their way into the school, Yuma simply stood in place, watching as they entered the school without him. "Maybe somebody's late!" He told himself, standing tall with his hands at his hips. "Maybe this is just how mine and my partner's story starts!" He turned and looked out to Death City, seeing if he was right and someone was late. "Maybe--"
"Uh, hello?"
Hearing Lord Death's voice, Yuma froze, and slowly turned his head to look over his shoulder. Upon seeing Lord Death waiting for him patiently, Yuma blanched and turned around immediately, booking it towards the school's entrance. "Sorry, Lord Death!"
"Hold your horses there, kiddo," Lord Death held out a hand in order to slow Yuma down, and looked at him curiously. "You look familiar. What's your name?"
Yuma blinked at that. Familiar? How did he manage to come off as familiar? This was his first time meeting Lord Death face-to-face! "Yuma Tsukumo."
"Tsukumo? Tsukumo..." Lord Death rose a hand to the bottom of his mask, tapping it gently as he looked upward in thought. "Tsukumo... Aha!" Lord Death clapped his hands together, then looked back down towards Yuma. "Your parents wouldn't happen to be Mirai and Kazuma, would they?"
"Yeah, that's my mom and dad!" Yuma said proudly, smirking as he did so. His smirk faltered slightly though as he asked, "How did you know that?"
"You're the spitting image of your father!" Lord Death replied cheerfully. "I remember him and your mother well! They worked for me for a short time, and your mother was well on her way to being a Death Scythe when she and Kazuma decided they wanted to start a family together. How are they doing?"
Yuma looked downward for a moment then, exhaling before looking back up at Lord Death. "They went missing several years ago. There was a gathering of witches near our town, and everyone who could fight went to do so. They never came back."
"Oh..." Lord Death's usually goofy boice became serious then, and he placed a hand onto Yuma's shoulder. "I'm sorry to hear that. Your mother and father were good people."
"Thanks." Yuma nodded at that, then looked up to Lord Death with a smile. "That's why I came here, I want to be as good as my parents were; better even! Then maybe one day I can go out and find them!"
"That's an admirable goal, Yuma!" Lord Death's voice was back to its goofy self again, and he removed his hand from Yuma's shoulder, turning to look towards the school's entrance, "Let's get you a partner and get you settled into the DWMA nicely!"
"But Lord Death," Yuma began, walking with the headmaster into the school, "isn't it too late to find a partner?"
"Not at all!" Lord Death's voice was chipper, and there was a bit of a bounce in his proverbial step as he floated down the hallway, guiding Yuma to where the other students were being shown around by various teachers. "There are some students here who still don't have a partner, so perhaps one of them will be the key to finding you someone to partner up with!"
"You think so?"
"My boy, I know so!" As they joined the rest of the students in the hallway, Lord Death continued, "Let's just have a looksee at your soul," Lord Death said as he stsred right at Yuma, "and I'll be able to tell you if... you... Huh."
Yuma blinked. "Um, Lord Death? Is everything ok?"
Lord Death was quiet for a moment, but soon snapped out of whatever caught him off guard, laughing slightly. "Oh, its nothing. The souls of you youngsters never cease to amaze me!" His laughter slowed to a stop, before he cleared his voice. "How about this: After classes today, before you head home, stop by my office and we'll see about finding you a partner?"
Yuma smiled brightly at that, "Alright, sounds like a plan!"
"Well then, get along and join your fellow classmates before we lose them again!" Lord Death patted Yuma's back gently, and Yuma nodded walking towards the group and waving back at Lord Death, who enthusiastically returned the wave. When Yuma was out of sight, engulfed by the mass of students, Lord Death turned to one of the teachers nearby. "Sid?"
Sid Barrett turned at the sound of Lord Death's voice, and stood at attention. "Yes, Lord Death?"
"How's our friend downstairs doing today?"
Sid hummed lowly, shaking his head. "He still refuses to talk to us, sir. He only asks for books to read and paper to write with. Why do you ask?"
Lord Death looked back towards the disappearing mass of students, and spoke softly, "I believe we might have found a Meister for our magic friend."

Duelling Gives You Wings
Commission for @authenticaussi3
Written as a birthday gift for @2014federalbudget

Fandom: Yu-Gi-Oh! ZeXal
Ship: Astral/Yuma
Yuma giddily ripped open the package. Astral hovered nearby, twisting and turning as Yuma sat on the floor, cross-legged, and utterly annihilated the unsuspecting white cardboard box. Astral had to admit though, he was impressed by Yuma’s tenacity as he had observed Akari opening similar boxes with much avail and requiring tools such as scissors. Yuma had no such need. He wondered if it was because Yuma had very much been looking forward to this package’s arrival and had sworn himself to secrecy regarding it.
Thus, Astral drew in a little closer, “Say, Yuma, are you finally going to tell me what this package is or am I still to be kept in the dark?”
“Ta-da!” Yuma said as he held his prize high amid the cardboard carnage.
His arms flew through the air and startled Astral who twisted another way, so his body avoided any collision. Then, Astral drew in again. He blinked as he tried to examine that which Yuma held onto. It just seemed like another D-Pad.
“I don’t understand.” Astral said. “Why does this excite you? Your current D-Pad is standard, yes? And hasn’t fallen to any disrepair despite the abuse you put it through.”
“Hey, I’m not that bad.” Yuma huffed despite having rather clear memories of perhaps using his D-Pad in a game of catch rather than a ball. “Anyway, Kaito and Chris were able to get me on the, uh, beta list with them so now I get to help them test this new wave of upcoming Duel Technology. So, this isn’t a D-Pad. This is something else, well, kind of… the terminology’s gone circular so its called a Duel Disc.”
“Fascinating. Humans are always finding ways of reinventing the wheel…” Astral mused. “So, what update does this Duel Disc have that present D-Pads lack?”
“Real Action Technology. There’s a new and upcoming programmer on the block apparently, some one names Aka… Akaba, maybe? No, no, that’s right. Akaba! Anyways this dude is cool as heck because he’s got the know-how to bring Duel Monsters to life.” Yuma explained.
He then slammed the Duel Disc’s chassis onto his arm and its straps immediately attached to his arm. He waved it up and down for good measure and found that it was securely fixed to him. He beamed. Yuma then searched the pockets of his red jacket and soon found what he was looking forward upon the third precision strike upon them. He reefed out his deck from where he had hidden it on his person and then fed his cards into the holder.
The Duel Disc whirred and turned on. A prismatic light flashed across the keys of the Duel Disc and then it appeared ready and functional. To prove such a thing to its new owner, the Duel Disc shuffled Yuma’s cards. Yuma’s heart pounded ecstatically. Unable to contain his excitement, he leapt to his feet with a great and cheerful bound.
“Oh, I am feeling this!” he yelled. “C’mon Astral, we gotta test this out.”
  Astral nodded. “Agreed.”
With that decided, Yuma sped out of the house to the backyard with Astral in tow. It was a lovely day out, today. It was a balmy sort of spring day with a still, blue sky and a gentle, almost unnoticeable breeze. The sun was warm and there was much to be done.
Yuma beamed as he got comfortable in his field and in his imagination. He closed his eyes and he felt the sunlight on his scalp; it was a warm and tingly feeling. Just as he thought his grin couldn’t widen any further, it did as he imagined that he was taking home some sort of championship cup. A foray into victory was more than enough to amp him further. Yuma’s heart pounded in his heart.
His eyes snapped open. “It’s time to feel the flow!” he announced.
“Yes, I’m very interested in seeing how this upgraded device works, no go on.” Astral coaxed him.
Yuma pulled out a hand from his deck. He looked through the cards; two support cards and three monsters. He carefully considered the monsters that he had drawn: Kagetokage, Zubaba Knight, and Overlay Owl. Yuma then carefully considered what he wanted to do to test the new equipment. Astral drew in nearer and blinked thoughtfully over Yuma’s shoulders.
“An unusual first draw…” Astral murmured.
“Good thing we’re not in a duel then, eh?” Yuma snidely commented.
“I suppose…” Astral hummed and his eyes, golden and silver, slid towards Yuma’s who suddenly grew a lot brighter.
“I know what to do now!” he exclaimed, and he gathered up his cards save for one which he guarded so Astral could not peek at.
“You do? I’m proud.” Astral said.
“Mmhm.” Yuma then slammed a card onto his Duel Disc. “I summon Overlay Owl in attack position!”
Prismatic light glowed and flashed and twinkled stupendously upon Yuma’s brand-new Duel Disc. It was quite stunning, actually. Even a little hard on the eyes but in such grandeur, even greater things came forth. Overlay Owl was summoned, and it ruffled its feathers over having been summoned. It stood on the field, awaiting orders but there was a curious look in its golden eyes; it was as though it knew there was no battle to be fought or effect to be wrought.
Astral hummed. “The animations don’t appear to have been upgraded, unless memory is failing me and therefore making me cynical.”
Yuma slowly approached Overlay Owl. Overlay Owl looked very disgruntled and puffed out its chest further. And Yuma was absolutely enthralled by such a development. His black-brown eyes glittered and watered; his hands twitched as he stared holes into his monster’s chest, enamoured with its snow-white breast. He sucked in a breath and Astral watched, indignant, as Yuma groped Overlay Owl. Then, Astral realised that he ought not to be indignant because, in the past, Yuma had never been able to touch his Duel Monsters.
In the past, Yuma could not even perceive them without the aide of his Duel Gazer.
Astral had grown so used to more unconventional Duel Gazers – as well as just their omniscient presence in a duel – that he hadn’t even realised that Yuma wasn’t wearing his. So, he twisted around – almost like an aerial mermaid – and he drew in close again to Yuma. Yuma, who was still giddily feeling up and down the thick wad of feathers on his monster’s chest, did not mind in the least and simply grinned back.
“This is… very impressive, Yuma.” Astral said, genuinely awed and it lit up his voice.
“Yeah, technology is amazing.” Yuma said. “Now, let’s see if this thing can fly.”
“Fly?” Astral exclaimed. If he had skin, it would have crawled.
“Yeah, fly.” Yuma replied, clearing up absolutely nothing and upon realising a moment later that it had cleared up absolutely nothing he added: “Yeah, Real Solid Vision has this cool density function where holograms are transformed into something more! I can – should – be able to safely use Overlay Owl here to fly. And, well, do other things. But fly’s the coolest.”
Astral tensed. He had a very bad feeling about this. But, then again, he had many bad feelings about many of the things that Yuma said and did so his intuition was slightly worn down by that. So, he took a breath and sighed, letting what ever was bound to happen and inevitably go wrong happen.
Yuma’s fists balled in front of his chest as he grinned maniacally and with overwhelming joy unto his Duel Monster. Overlay Owl was slightly unsettled by this. Its face visibly ripping with avian discomfort. And then the ball dropped. The idea was explained. Spouted, really.
“Okay, Overlay Owl, here’s the plan!” Yuma began, throwing his hands in the air. “You’re gonna grab onto my shoulders and then, we’re gonna fly, yeah!”
  “Hoo…” his Duel Monster replied.
It was a quiet, murmuring reply but it managed to throw Yuma into a frenzy of ecstasy. There was a slight difference to how Overlay Owl emoted and operated when summoned via this updated Duel Disc as compared to Yuma’s previous Duel Disc. It was only a slight difference that could only be sensed intuitively but it was there. And it wasn’t imagined.
“Please? C’mon?” Yuma begged of his Duel Monster.
In the most avian-esque and long-suffering manner, Overlay Owl finally conceded to Yuma’s silly request of it. It ruffled its feathers and took three, toddling steps backwards. Yuma waited with gleeful expectance whilst Astral hovered with his interest piqued. Overlay Owl then, regrettably, took a running jump at Yuma and his claws hooked over Yuma’s shoulders. It felt strange; more akin to wearing a backpack straps than talons, Yuma found as his feet were slowly lifted from the ground. With a great flap of its wings, both he and Overlay Owl were spectacularly air bound.
Yuma whooped and hollered. His legs kicked. Overlay Owl’s wings gave tremendous beats of its wings. Soon enough, the pair were eye level with the levitation that Astral leisurely enjoyed. A smile tugged at Astral’s face and he waved his fingers at them as a greeting.
“How does it feel to be up here?” he asked, joking.
  “It feels gr-!”
And before Yuma could even finish his sentence, as ecstatic and earnest as it was, Overlay Owl fumbled him. Its wings, beating as strong as it could, grew weary. The clutch it had upon Yuma’s shoulders weakened; unused to being used in such a capacity. It gave a strangled noise before disappearing back into fiction, into the art upon the card it had been born from.
Yuma was dropped straight into the ground. He screamed and his arms flailed. With good fortune, however, Yuma was able to pull them both into his torso he could protect himself. Thus, his forearms to the brunt of the impact. Although, there was a sickening crunch as his newly arrived Duel Disc also smashed into the ground as it had been attached to his extremities.
Astral shivered as he watched the calamity unfold. “Are you okay… Yuma?”
Yuma took a breath and straightened himself up and out, Of the humans that Astral has had the pleasure – and occasional displeasure – of observing, Yuma was the mostly clearly sturdy and indestructible. But it didn’t hurt to show a little bit concern towards him.
Yuma groaned, wearily and dizzy, as he got back up. He shook himself off though. Bits of grass and dirt flew elsewhere. He took a steadying breath and gingerly lifted up his arm. Nothing felt broken or even strained. He had definitely taken worse but that was still all different types of awful to cop.
Astral drifted in closer. His legs twisted about as he came to get a closer look at Yuma. Yuma sucked in a sudden breath and he smiled.
“No harm, no foul.” He said. “Get it? ‘Cause Overlay Owl is a bird; a fowl?”
  “Thank you, Yuma.” Astral replied.
Yuma then turned over his Duel Disc. He tapped it on the side a couple of times and got a few flashes here and there. Colours were now missing from the once brilliant spectrum that it could produce. He sighed dejectedly but gave it another thwack for posterity. Upon doing so, a new noise was heard. Thwip. And then again and again, over and over and Yuma’s back grew rather heavy and itchy.
“Is that… supposed to happen?” Astral inquired.
“Is what supposed to…?” Yuma mumbled as he twisted around. “Huh. You know. I’m not sure. I didn’t read the instruction manual after all.”
“Perhaps you should have.” Astral did not necessarily admonish Yuma but his voice and neutral facial expression was within the vicinity of it.
Regardless, both stared at the additions upon Yuma’s back: a pair of owl-like wings. It seemed like Yuma’s shoulderblades had truly sprouted the necessary bones, skin, and flesh needed to host them and more. He promptly discovered, with a rather garishly frustrated face, that if he used enough willpower, he could wiggle them no differently to how some people could do the same thing in order to wiggle their ears. Regardless, it amused Astral enough.
“May I touch them?” Astral inquired.
Yuma glanced at him. He was surprised that Astral had asked that. When it came to Yuma’s shenanigans, he was usually the straight man; the supervisor; the one above it all. Then again, it was just them two in his backyard so maybe he felt compelled to sink to such a level because no one was around. The same as when he had tried food for the first time.
  “Yeah, absolutely!” Yuma replied, beaming.
Astral’s eyes twinkled and he sailed around closer, twisting and hovering almost like a fish flitting through water. He then extended his hand which shook slightly. A small, shy smile tugged at his mouth as his hand finally made contact with Yuma’s fluffy white wings.
His brows quirked in fascination as he patted Yuma. He ran his finger along the bone which made Yuma’s skin prickle and made him roll his shoulders. His reaction was cute but cuter still, Astral found, was the rivets that he made in the feathers. They were divinely soft.
“Do you think you can use them for flight?” Astral asked.
Yuma’s face lit up and Astral felt a twinge of regret. Perhaps, he thought, he shouldn’t have asked that because now, Yuma’s imagination was up and running.
“I have no idea.” Yuma ecstatically replied.
So, naturally, he bounded to his feet. His wings bowed slightly, and his excitement reverberated throughout the whole of his body. He straightened himself up and Astral gave him some room. Yuma thrust his hands into the air and his wings outstretched. The feathers catching in the morning sunlight, tinging to a soft, yellow. He grunted and he tried again. Nothing happened. So, he tried again but more forceful still, making awfully exaggerated frustrated faces.
Astral blinked owlishly. “You don’t know how to fly, do you?”
  “Nope.” Yuma replied, bald-facedly.
“It’s probably for the best. You wouldn’t want to injure yourself.” Astral said.
Yuma deflated. “Yeah… That’s true…” he mumbled, dejected.
“And, additionally, you wouldn’t want to corrupt your body further than it already has.” Astral said.
  “Yeah, true.” he murmured.
“And what is your sister going to say when she sees you like this, is another thing worth considering.” Astral added.
Yuma shivered. “Oh God, what will she say?” His wings twitched. “I wonder if they’ll just faded away or am I stuck with them forever?”
“I haven’t the foggiest, but I have some hypothesises.” Astral said.
“Oh? Do share it with the class.” Yuma sarcastically replied as he slumped back to the ground. So now, he sat cross-legged, hunched over his lap, and with his hands clamped onto his ankles.
“Well, given that the wings are a manifestation of human error, perhaps they’ll disappear when the battery runs out.” Astral said.
“These things practically have a nuclear reactor for a battery. It ain’t gonna run out any time soon.” Yuma said.
“Hm, well,” Astral put his hand to his mouth in thought, “perhaps removing Overlay Owl from the Monster Zone might help.”
“Can’t hurt to try…” mumbled Yuma.
With a defeated relucantance, Yuma followed through with the suggestion. He plucked the card from the Monster Zone. He winced in preparation of a cacophonic, clanging noise to alert him of an error but none occurred. He blinked once. Then twice. And then happily looked over the Overlay Owl card. In doing so, he suddenly felt lighter and even tingly.
  “It worked.” Astral commented.
Yuma looked over his shoulders. “It worked.” He echoed in agreement.
“I almost miss them now.” Astral said. “They were a good look. You humans are missing some vital adaptations, I believe.”
Yuma laughed. Of course, that would be Astral’s take-away from the whole experience.
“So, would you say your purchase was satisfactory?” Astral inquired.
Yuma leapt to his feet. “Absolutely! Now, let’s go and find someone to duel with this new Duel Disc now that I’m used to how it works!”
“A fine idea.” Astral placidly agreed.
Giggling, Yuma dusted himself off and double-checked that his Duel Disc was fine. Having ascertained that it was now mildly used rather than mint condition, and still perfectly good to go, he was happy to bolt off. Astral trailed after him, excited too and perhaps, if he squinted just right, he could still see the wings on Yuma’s back. He could still feel them on his fingertips, a tickling sensation he enjoyed but he had to imagine to make up some of the tactile difference. Still, he was quietly happy for Yuma and looking forward to seeing where this new Duel Disc took them next.

Yo everybody, here have some VRAINS Fanfic Ideas/Prompts
I'll probably try my hand at these myself at some point, but I'm putting them out for anyone to use because I probably wouldn't write them well. Prompt #1: Yusaku can see and/or summon Duel Spirits. Just a general thing, feel free to do whatever you want with this one. Some of the following prompts are a more fleshed out version of this concept.
One of the thoughts that spawned this idea was what if Yusaku was spirit sensitive during the Lost Incident, and thus was pretty much adopted by Duel Spirits. Fast forward ten years, and he has a Jiraiya of the Sannin-level spy network without anyone being any the wiser. There was also the thought of stern and standoffish Playmaker being Soft(™) with his monsters. Animal-like and The simple machine monsters would be pets. The human-like monsters would range from parental figures, to older or younger siblings to small children. The Code Talkers would absolutely act like how medieval knights would toward their king/liege. His dragons would be the seemingly ferocious guard dogs that growl at anything within 30 feet of Yusaku, but are in reality “the attention span of a sparrow” puppies. (They are adorable and Yusaku loves them, yes he does. Firewall really is a ferocious guard dog with everyone except Yusaku tho)
You could also do a Yusaku slowly awakens to the ability to see/hear Duel Spirits mid-canon (at any point in the plot you want).
This could be funny: Yusaku being confused(™) until it makes sense, or angsty: Yusaku getting incredibly paranoid/anxious or thinking he's actually going insane while his friends/allies/fans begin to worry as he begins to act strangely.
(I just really want Spirit/Psychic Duelist!Yusaku in any form okay?)
Prompt #2: The one where Yusaku catches the eye of Stardust Dragon, and is subsequently adopted by said dragon without any say in the matter.
(Bonus if Yusei is just there and serenely lets it happen.)
Stardust: this is my son I will vaporize anything that hurts him
Yusei: yea cool guess I've got a little brother now
Yusaku: ...do I get any say in th-
Stardust: shh my sweet child I will protect you
Yusei: no not really
Yusaku:
Random Knight of Hanoi #179: *hurts Yusaku, is realizing his error* OOOOOH SHIIII-!!!!! SOL Tech: *sweats*
Note #1 - Yusaku can see Duel Spirits in this AU. They tend to materialize themselves [read: to defend their precious child] in his general vicinity whenever they feel like it. Den City as a whole is pretty much resigned to and somewhat fond/proud of this fact. (Most of its residents have in fact all adopted Yusaku as well. Tourists are usually hella confused.)
Tourist: hey does that kid have a Kuriboh on his head? Den City Resident: that's just Yusaku, don't mind him
Tourist: is that a goddamn DRAGON??? Den City Resident: *serenely, not even looking* that's normal everything is fine
Tourist: ?!??! Note #2 - Yusei can be along for the ride. If so, he and Stardust are pretty much post-5D's immortal gods that watch over mankind while the Crimson Dragon sleeps.
Note #3 - Can be cracky, serious, angsty, or anything in-between, go wild! Prompt #3: How to Train Your [Cracking/Borrel/Stardust/Sky/Winged] Dragon - The one where Duel Monsters wander freely and peacefully around VRAINS when not in use during duels, and Playmaker stumbles across an injured Cracking Dragon. Chaos ensues as he helps and inadvertently befriends the beast. Note - Could alternatively have the Duel Monster be one of Revolver's "Borrel" Dragons, Stardust Dragon, or- for the lols- Slifer the Sky Dragon or the Winged Dragon of Ra. Prompt #4: The one where Yusaku is thrown headfirst from Link VRAINS into the world of My Hero Academia, with Ai along for the ride. (Can be cracky, serious, angsty, or anything in-between, go wild!) Suggestions that don't have to be used - Yusaku's “Quirk” could be his Link Sense, only amplified to the point where he has the ability to connect to/hack the network and manipulate it however he wishes with any electronic device or his thoughts. He can also summon his Cyberse monsters by forming them from raw data. Yusaku can also turn into Playmaker to hide his identity.
Ai can either remain in Yusaku’s duel disk, or leave it in either his tiny or full sized “human” forms. He can also transform into his six-armed monster form, in which he can consume data to either save or delete it. Kaminari could possibly trigger Yusaku's PTSD with his Quirk on accident. Prompt #5: The one where Yusaku is unknowingly infected with a virus, and all hell breaks loose. Can either be pretty-much-drunk/high!Yusaku, or essentially Berserk Jinchuriki!Yusaku, or just angst. NOTHING sexual, please. Prompt #6: The one where Link VRAINS falls prey to a virus/hacker, leaving everyone currently logged in with no way to log out- including Playmaker. Basically SAO, YGO-style. Go wild with this one. Prompt #7: The one where VRAINS and the real world are merged without any warning, and Yusaku is unfortunately smack in the middle of Algebra when his Link Sense goes crazy...seconds before he forcefully glitches into Playmaker right in front of his entire class. (This one was a random thought, and can be cracky, serious, or angsty.)
Prompt #8: The one where Yusaku’s account is hacked so that his avatar has the features of Firewall Dragon, and he can’t remove them. (...It was Ghost Girl’s fault, he just knew it.) Note - Yusaku has Firewall Dragon's halo, wings, tail, and can have some of its armor. He can also have elongated canines and claws. (And yes, the original thought was Ghost Girl pranking Playmaker.)
Prompt #9: The one where Yusaku is blind or deaf IRL due to permanent damage suffered during the Lost Incident, but he has his sight/hearing while in VRAINS because it isn't his physical body. (Conversely, he still lacks his missing sense(s) even while in VR, and is just really good at hiding being blind/deaf.) Suggestions for this AU that don't have to be used:
Note #1 - Can use one of two types of damage as the cause of Yusaku's disability:
Direct Damage: Yusaku suffered damage directly to his eyes/ears, allowing VRAINS to ignore said damage and for Yusaku to temporarily recover his lost sense while logged in. Brain Damage: The electric shocks caused damage directly to the parts of Yusaku's brain that are responsible for sight/hearing, which causes the damage to carry over even while Yusaku is logged into VRAINS. Note #2 - If blind, Yusaku programs his avatar's eyes to automatically track people's movements and faces so that he can “look" at them, and his cards to either have braille text, or an audio feed that only he can hear that reads his cards off to him. May have Ai and/or Roboppi serve as something similar to a seeing eye dog. Or you could throw Prompt #1 into the mix and also have Duel Spirits help Yusaku out. Yusaku can have a specially programmed set of (Ai-themed) headphones that Ai can inhabit that allow the Ignis to speak with him privately or IRL. They are a headset in VRAINS and earbuds IRL.] Note #3 - If deaf, Yusaku knows sign and is mute as well. He has specially programmed text boxes that allow him to read everything his opponent says during duels, and follow whatever is going on easier. Yusaku can have a specially programmed phone that Ai can inhabit to send him text messages when IRL. Ai can also learn Sign.] Note #4 - In either version, Yusaku knows Morse Code and programs his avatar to have a higher sensitivity to vibrations as well. Ai is also quite a bit more protective of Yusaku.
Prompt #10: Playmaker counts out his convictions in threes for everyone to hear. Fujiki Yusaku hasn't spoken in ten years. (AKA The Selectively Mute Yusaku AU.) Prompt #11: The one where the same virus that killed Dr. Kogami traps and fragments Playmaker's consciousness data (mind) in Link VRAINS, thereby rendering him comatose, and his allies are left with no way to rescue him- save for delving into his fragmented mind to wake him up in person. Basically the Danny Phantom's-class-enters-his-mind fic, VRAINS-style. If you've ever read one of those fics, you'll get the concept, but I'll try to explain it a little anyway. [Note #1 - Suggestions for the people who enter Yusaku's mind are: Ai, Kusanagi, Takeru, Flame, Ryoken, Spectre (follows Ryoken), Akira, Ema, Aoi, Aqua, Go (hacks in), Roboppi (brought by Ai), and Kengo (also hacks in).] [Note #2 - The group has to experience Yusaku's memories as they attempt to save him- including those of the Lost Incident- in visceral detail. (I, personally, would serve still-in-his-asshole-phase-Go a nice heaping helping of #Guilt/Remorse/Horror(™) if you have him witness the memories.)] [Note #3 - The facets of Yusaku's personality are fragmented, with each being represented as their own separate version of Yusaku. Some suggestions are as follows (feel free to use them or do your own thing). Anger: Playmaker, and his eyes as well as the glow lines of his suit are red. Fear: Yusaku in his pajamas, as he was when he was shown suffering night terrors. Happiness: Six year-old Yusaku before he suffered the Lost Incident. Sadness: Base Yusaku, but he barely reacts to anything or anyone. His eyes are blue and he is constantly crying in near silence.
Hate: Think pissed off and severely injured Playmaker, but if he also had Vector(Zexal) or Lightning's twisted personality traits.
Self Doubt: Yusaku as a nervous wreck and blaming himself for everything that has ever gone wrong. Shyness: Yusaku, but if he acted like Reira(ARC-V) or Hinata from Naruto.
Confidence: Playmaker, but friendly and smiling and enjoying dueling.
Selflessness: Yusaku, but his color scheme is predominantly white. Would sacrifice himself for his allies.
Selfishness: Playmaker, but his color scheme is predominantly black. Would cast his allies aside without a second glance.
The true Yusaku can him as he normally appears, or his beat-up six year-old self just before being rescued, or a beat-up six year-old Playmaker.] Prompt #12: Dark Signer AU. The one where Yusaku didn't survive the Lost Incident, but thanks to being a Dark Signer, nobody realizes this little detail. (I need more Dark Signer!Yusaku m'kay? Nemesis by DarkZorua100 is glorious, bUT i neeD mORe) [Note #1 - Angst obviously, unless you can somehow put a humorous spin on Yusaku trying to hide the fact that he's, y'know, dead from everybody. And semi-failing. Takeru: ooooh my god he's f*cking dead yoU'RE a f*CKinG zomBIE-
Yusaku: wait i can expla-
Takeru: *illegible screeches of terror*
(i'm a terrible person who would make this funny heLP)
Can have the temperament of Yusaku's Immortal vary depending on whether you do angst or humor:
Angst: Either a complete asshole that makes Yusaku's unlife hell, or semi-benevolent. Humor: Excited puppy.]
[Note #2 - Stray thought was that Yusaku's Earthbound Immortal could be Ai's monster form? Or at least based on it. (or even be the reason Ai has it, since none of the other Ignis seemed to have alternate forms.)] [Note #3 - In my version, Yusaku was the only Lost Child to actually die. But you can have some or all of the rest of the children be Dark Signers too.] [Note #4 - Yusaku appears normal to everyone IRL- save for the facts that he-
Has no heartbeat and is strangely pale.
Exudes no body heat.
Never eats/sleeps or seems to react to pain when hurt (he doesn't bleed either).
He's a walking corpse and most people just don't connect the dots. In VRAINS, he's Playmaker as normal, but his sclera can change to, or permanently are, black. He also has a mark on his left cheek under his eye that's vaguely reminiscent of lines of digital coding.] Feel free to use any of these! Please send me a link to any stories you may write!

Note
let's play "show/movie/fandom and I’ll tell you": VRains, Arc V, Zexal, please :> (are three okay? or too much?)
THREE IS PERFECT THANK U. (I had to click 8 pages on my blog to find the original prompt tho lmao @ me)
AND IT’S THE NEW GEN YGO YEEEEEEEE. I love me some new-gen YGO. (even tho I got a strained relationship with Arc V rn, but once I rewatch it in a couple of years, all should be good lmao)
VRAINS
my favorite female character: GHOST GIRL/EMA BESSHO. What a queen.
my favorite male character: MY FIRE SON HOMURA TAKERU/SOULBURNER!!!!!
my favorite book/season/etc: ??? I mean, there’s only been two seasons so far (technically), so I think I’ll pass on this one lmao.
my favorite episode (if its a tv show): ok so that episode where Takeru goes to up to Yusaku and is like “H-Hi Playmaker... :D;;;” A masterpiece.
my favorite cast member: well, it was Ishige Shouya b/c his tweets give me so much life, but then VRAINS was like “hey guess what kaji yuki’s gonna voice homura takeru,” and it’s been him ever since. I’m literally watching four anime rn where he voices major characters. It’s bad lmao.
my favorite ship: ALL ABOARD THE DATASTORM SHIP!!!
a character I’d die defending: FUJIKI YUSAKU!!!!! thankfully I haven’t seen a whole lot of hate for him lately (tho, I’ve unfollowed and blocked a good majority of folks I’ve seen hate on him so lmao), but the amount of hate he gets just b/c he doesn’t develop as visibly as the Other Treasured Soft Main Protags is a bunch of bullshit. also I know it says character and not characters, but I’d also jump in front of an army tank and punch Blood Shepherd in the face for Homura Takeru.
a character I just can’t sympathize with: Go Onizuka, which apparently makes me racist, but go off, I guess, Go Onizuka fans....
a character I grew to love: Spectre. Surprisingly. Even tho he was such a little shit in the last arc/season, especially towards Blue Angel. I blame the last VRAINS fic I wrote 1000% and the fact Blue Girl also slightly irritates me now for this tho lmao
my anti otp: ANTI-OTP AND NOT NOTP? WHAT. But anyway, I’ve said all my VRAINS anti-OTPs at this point I think, but considering I saw this pair recently, Aoi x Yusaku. Can understand why people would like it, but just. Can’t get on that ship.
Arc V
my favorite female character: HIIRAGI YUZU!!!!
my favorite male character: if we’re counting veteran characters, CROW HOGAN-SAMA OF COURSE
my favorite book/season/etc: Synchro Dimension arc best arc. don’t change my mind.
my favorite episode (if its a tv show): when Crow-sama defied everyone’s expectations and just uncarded himself and tag-teamed with Shingo to roast Zarc into oblivion. I didn’t even care that they were defeated, I was just glad Crow-sama wasn’t a card anymore. :’D (AND IT WAS TWO DAYS BEFORE MY BIRTHDAY TOO. BEST PRESENT.)
my favorite cast member: BESIDES SHINTARO ASANUMA, OnoKen. Love him so much. Also Hosoyan.
my favorite ship: ugh I have so many fave ships from Arc V tho. YugoxRin, YuyaxYuzu, Crow-samaxShinji.... (also I low-key ship ShingoxSerena lmao)
a character I’d die defending: besides Crow-sama (obviously), I would get hit by a bus for Sakaki Yuya. (I’m seeing a theme here with the main protags... smh @ fandom)
a character I just can’t sympathize with: as much as I tried to, Yuuri. After he carded Yusho, that was it lmao. Any sympathy I had for him was GONE. like can u just let people live a little, you wilted cabbage patch kid.
a character I grew to love: SAWATARI-SAN!!! oh man, he used to annoy me so much in the pre-JYC arc, but then his rematch with Yuya was SO GOOD. But then he got on my nerves again up until the Synchro Dimension arc. and then he became friends with Crow-sama. And it was all smooth sailing in the liking department from there lmao. I love Shingo.
my anti otp: I used to be kinda on board with this ship, but YuurixSerena. I think the overexposure to it killed all the tolerance I had for it....
ZeXal
my favorite female character: ANNA KOZUKI. Her personality was an instant hit for me lmao.
my favorite male character: even tho he died too much in ZeXal, Astral. I still love you, my naked blue alien. REAL close second is my Shark son tho.
my favorite book/season/etc: The Barian Invasion arc but like. Just before the Sargossa mini-arc. That was a good arc (with minimal amount of emotional damage!)
my favorite episode (if its a tv show): THE ASTRAL-YUMA REUNION IN ZEXAL II AFTER ASTRAL DECIDED TO BE MIA FOR LIKE 10 EPISODES. I BAWLED!!!! so good ;A;
my favorite cast member: besides Hosoyan (FANSERVICE!!!!), Hatanaka. What a gem. I love him.
my favorite ship: KEYSHIPPING. KEYSHIPPING. KEYSHIPPING.
a character I’d die defending: I would get sucked in a black hole for Tsukumo Yuma. it’s the least I can do to atone for my sins.
a character I just can’t sympathize with: ??? I mean, other than Don “I’m petty AS FUCK” Thousand or Mr. “HEART BURNING!!!!” Heartland or Vector’s dad, I don’t know lmao. I could sympathize with them all.
a character I grew to love: not really “love” and not that it took me a long time to tolerate him, but Tokunosuke
my anti otp: not . . . sure I have one?? the benefits of watching ZeXal long after it aired, I guess lmao.
