should i read homestuck. like i feel it would be interesting so i could see what yall are talking about in regards to tlt but is homestuck actually good

no but seriously, it highkey depends on 1. your definition of good and 2. your tolerance for stupid bullshit. as someone who read tlt and then hs, i'd say that being a fan of the chaotic aspect of tlt is a good predictor of being able to hang in with homestuck.
readmore because this. um. got long. the tl;dr is: i like homestuck a lot and i am glad i read it. i can't tell you if you should read it bc idk your tastes, but there is a lot to like and enjoy about it.
the official pitch for homestuck is something like "4 kids play a game and then a bunch of other shit happens." here's my pitch based on what the core of the story is to me:
several groups of characters across time, space, and reality are brought together in order to succeed at creating a new universe after their own are destroyed. this takes the form of a game, which is called sburb (by the humans) and sgrub (by the trolls). the characters must contend with an eternal battle against good and evil in which they are the deciding factor, and level up while following personalized quests. at its heart, homestuck is about relationships of every sort and how they shape us, growing up and the associated grief and loss, coming into ones identity and choosing who to be, predestination and fate, and stories themselves. it gets very meta at times, and the characters are semi to fully aware that they're characters, and attempt to subvert or escape that. it's got hordes of fleshed out, compelling characters, one of which will almost certainly glom onto you for the rest of your life, real emotion, extremely funny jokes, smart and exciting plotting, and some very cool moments. it more or less invented an entire new genre/medium, and plays with medium in a very cool way.
it is also clunky, hard to get into, and way too convoluted. you will never fully understand what's happening. there are tons of characters whose stories you will follow whom you simply do not care about. there are too many characters. it was written by an edgelord in 2009 so there's some unsavory humor and character writing. it's so fucking long. the ending kinda sucks because the fandom was so toxic that hussie simply wanted it over with. the fandom still kinda sucks tbh. so many people have wrong opinions about it. it requires a very specific lens to approach and understand it. i still dont understand what happened with that fucking puppet someone explain it to me.
overall, i'd say that if you think you want to read it, give it a shot. i have a complicated relationship with it but at the end of the day, i genuinely love the story and the characters and i know they will be with me forever. it certainly enhanced my understanding of tlt, and getting to read more of tamsyn's writing was such a bonus (even though her taste in pairings is. not the same as my own). and like honestly. it's just fun. even when you're going "wait what the fuck just happened" you're having fun. it's really goddamn funny too. it WILL change the way you speak and also think about romance forever.
the best way to read it is to have an experienced reader guide you, but if you or other people don't know anyone like that, here are my basic tips:
i think most people know this already, but download the unofficial homestuck collection. just do it. it's like 4 gigs and it's infinitely better than trying to read on the broken website, and it's even ad free. it can also be modded - for instance ik there's a slur replacer mod (lmao) if you don't want to read those
act 1 sucks to read. you're like what the fuck is this, THIS is homestuck?? the beginning is radically different from how it ends up, so just hang in there. for me, it really picked up somewhere in act 3. just focus on the silly fun the characters are having and you'll be good
things you should actually try to follow in the early acts: the concept of a sylladex existing (the various fetch modi are only there for jokes and eventually just kinda stop being a thing), where all the copies of the game are, what each kid's relationship with their guardian is like, the mechanics of the game and the lore behind it, including classpects and quests
things you do not have to waste brain space on: anything about how the totems work, what the various machines are, what the levels are, basically any of the jokes that would be funny to hussie's original intended audience of software engineers and rpg gamers. oh and the intermission with the midnight crew and the felt, just know that those are guys that exist and you'll be good.
and the biggest tip i have is just. go with it. suspend your disbelief. a lot of the worldbuilding doesn't really make sense, but it would be a worse story if it did. when the time shit and ectobiology come into play, literally just go ok got it and keep going, don't think too hard.

Hi! I meant to accomplish this way earlier but my Pisces season had me prioritize the easygoing flow of my energy. Anyway, even if you may have doubled down on your Aries energy, I hope you still find something good for you here. 🦋

You’re making your dreams come true, Pile 1– make no mistake about that. You really dug deep into yourself to manifest those goals and dreams that you deeply long for, and what a power you just uncovered. You’re right in the thick of it and doing everything you possibly can to make them a reality. There is this optimistic and go-getter outlook you have that’s so bright it’s almost blinding.
Your dreams are such a big part of you, but remember that these are not the only things that define you. What matters is how you feel about it. Have you been pushing yourself to the point of putting your health at risk? Please take some time to sit and slow down. Listen to what your body is saying. It has done nothing but carry you, heal your wounds, and rejuvenate itself from fatigue your whole life. Be careful not to do too much too soon.

Close your eyes for a minute. Rest, and find assurance that the rest of the world is moving even if you sit still. Now, your emotions will tell you a lot more than you may realize. I’ll ask again: how do you feel about it? Are you scared of being too distracted by these feelings? It’s natural. Go with your flow. In a world where dreams have the nature of fire, it’s important to be like water, too, and listen to what you feel. That’s how your dreams will come to you.

Cards: Knight of Wands, 2 of Pentacles, Ace of Wands, 3 of Cups
You’re full of passion without a doubt, but you seem to lack direction at the moment. I feel like you’re trying to be adaptable, balancing two or even multiple things at once. You seem to want a lot of things and your first impulse is to charge at it, full steam ahead… until you maybe see something else and change your mind. The thing is, scattered focus and efforts make for scattered results. There’s a Filipino term for this called “urong sulong,” which means to move forward then move backward. It basically describes being unable to decide if you will act towards something or not.
I see this energy taking you places, Pile 2. This drive and enthusiasm is your strength, but too much of something, anything, can be a weakness. It could burn you out. I’ve been seeing piles more often that can’t seem to catch a break, and you’re one of them, Pile 3. Rest has not been coming easy to you lately, even when you’re just sitting down or lying in bed. Sure, your physical body is still, but your thoughts are anything but at ease. You don’t run out of scenarios to play in your head, don’t you? You have been thinking about things you are feeling strongly about. For a lot of you, this may also be something really new that you’re quite unsure how to really deal with on your own. Whatever this is, it’s making you restless.
You’re letting your imagination get the best of you, Pile 3. I feel like this new thing that has entered your life is an opportunity to deeply heal your soul and spirit. I know, right now nothing about it feels remotely good or soothing like you would envision healing to feel like. Well, sometimes it can feel pretty sharp to acknowledge something uncomfortable or even painful. Sometimes it can feel like a flood that’s rising and threatening to drown you.
It can feel paralyzing to face this but I promise that reaching the other side is worthwhile. In order to do that, first things first, is to get away from the thoughts that come up and blur reality. Nip them in the bud. There needs to be a deliberate attempt to stop. Wake yourself up and be intentional about it. It’s fine if you have to slightly trick your brain by focusing your attention on something else or by looking at it from a different angle– even if this method is something you find yourself out of character for doing (as long as it’s in alignment with your morals and highest good, of course!)
Slow down. Take it step by step. You’re being urged to take this consistently, and you will soon see how much it has changed your life. You may still have moments, but what once felt unbearable will feel lighter to carry. You’ll be more confident to deal with them if you need to. Breathe easy, Pile 3, and know that you’re no longer in danger of letting this overpower you.

Uh-oh, I sense some kind of heavy energy around you. It feels like a disciplinary person. Someone bearing down on what you’ve been doing and working on. The type to hover over your shoulder and pick on the tiniest details. I don’t think they come from a place of malice, though, but nonetheless, this presence takes a toll on you. For those who don’t really have a person in mind, it could be your self-talk or thoughts. You’re being hard on yourself and are either oblivious to the effect it has on you, or you’re hoping this would toughen you up for better.
I feel that this sharp energy has a way with words. Words that made a mark on you. Listen, Pile 4, they may sound like the authority, but know that these words do not define you. You know why? I feel that you and this person clash about having different ways of approaching things. They seem more traditional, valuing speed the most in accomplishing their tasks. You, however, seem to be on the slow and steady side. You take your time and keep your eyes open for innovation. The way I see it, there’s no “better” method. It’s just that you use whatever suits you best.
Whatever method you’ve been using to conduct your work, know that it is okay. Even if you aren’t anywhere near completion and there may still be a lot to be done, it should not be a reason to be guilty of taking a break. Your body needs it because it looks out for you. Hi, Pile 5. Right off the bat, there is an “I’m older now but I don’t really feel like an adult” vibe. When it comes to material pursuits, you got the goods. However, whatever security you have in the external, it’s quite the opposite with the internal.

When you wake up, it’s not due to the sunlight blaring through your never-shut blinds. There’s no insistent beeping of an alarm, no great clatter from the neighbor’s apartment echoing through your apartment’s crêpe paper walls. It’s warmth, surprising but perfect.
Your eyes open slowly. As they adjust to the light — seriously, you need to remember to shut your blinds at night — they settle on Hoseok’s face. Still asleep, his bottom lip flutters just slightly as he exhales through a barely-open mouth. He’s never stayed before. He came over often — weekly, for months — after dark; he was never still around when the sun came up.
This feels special. A little treat, entirely unexpected and exclusively for you.
Really, you could stare at him like this all day and never allow yourself to blink. You could map the heights of his cheekbones, the sharp L-shaped angle of his jaw, and the adorably upturned tip of his nose. Hoseok is beautiful, even while he mumbles through his dreams.
Maybe he feels the way you’re studying him. As if you’d flipped some secret switch, his eyes crack open.
Based on the shocked arches of his brows, Hoseok doesn’t recognize his surroundings. He doesn’t sit up to join you or say a word, so you both simply exist there in silence. The quiet seems to get louder as you watch his eyes scan over every surface of your room. Though he’s been here many times before, you can’t say that he’s ever truly seen it.
There’s a tiny twitch at the left corner of his mouth that prompts you to look at whatever he is: a framed photo of you and your older brother at your high school graduation. There you were, a decade ago, with your short, choppy layers jutting out like porcupine quills. You should’ve been held liable for the abuse your hair suffered at the hands of your flat iron. Those split ends are visible to you now, even from where you’re sitting. You can almost hear the way they sizzled.
Just like Hoseok, you continue to quietly assess that embarrassing old photo. Unlike Hoseok, you steal glances out of the corner of your eye to gauge the reaction. He’s smirking at the sight of you back then, thoroughly amused by the unfortunate fashion you flaunted. For you, it’s like watching a car crash: painful but compelling. You find it extremely difficult to look away.
Maybe you could forgive the unfilled eyebrows, barely registering on your uninhibited forehead. That said, you’d never get over the bright purple eyeshadow smeared — not blended — over your eyelids. There isn’t a darker color in sight to even hint at a crease? That poor, misguided baby.
You cringe a bit and glance over at Hoseok, who still hasn’t looked your way. “You stayed,” You state the obvious and try to stash the giddiness away, out of sight.
“It looks that way,” Hoseok’s voice is heavy with the sleepiness still lingering. Slightly scratchy, too. So, this is what he sounds like in the morning. He reels in the arm that had been extended under your pillow. Had he cuddled you at some point in the night? Then, when he’s free to do so, he scrubs his hands over his face to wake himself up more fully.
For the first time, his eyes flicker over to you and oh my god, you want to be the first thing he sees every morning.
“Can we make breakfast?” Hoseok asks quietly with a hand on his bare stomach. Oh. You beg your pupils not to dilate when you remember the state of him. “I’m starving.”
When your heart somersaults in your chest, it takes a considerable amount of willpower to keep from doing the same yourself. Instead, you slip out of bed like a normal human being, grinning and nodding a little too eagerly. Quick as a flash, you re-introduce your baggy sweatshirt and sleep shorts to your body.
As you head off for the kitchen, you steal a quick peek over your shoulder at Hoseok, who still hasn’t gotten to his feet. He’s upright now and facing away from you. The well-defined muscles of his back nearly have you stumbling.
Beautiful, even more so in daylight. Could you keep him — like this?
You make a beeline for your cabinets to figure out what you have at your disposal — not much — and then you turn to the refrigerator. Bent in half with your face in the cold, you holler, “Kimchi eggs or dakjuk?”
Hoseok had made no noise whatsoever as he entered your kitchen, so the suddenness of his voice right behind you makes you jump. Your head collides with the underside of the freezer door. With a yelp, you wheel around with your hand gingerly rubbing the forming lump.
Instantly, you note the way he grimaces. Gently, he reaches out and places his hand on on top of yours. “You okay?” His hand is gone again before he continues speaking, “I’m so sorry. I thought you heard me come in.”
You blink. Did he say something? You were still buffering through the feeling of this rare, non-sexual contact. He’d touched you a thousand times in places much more intimate, but this is what makes your stupid heart skip a beat?
“Kimchi eggs or dakjuk?” You repeat, barely above a whisper this time around.
Hoseok smiles at you. Then, he steps closer. You wait, wait, wait, for him to kiss you; he simply glances over your shoulder into your refrigerator. He chuckles when he comes to the same conclusion you had: you need to go to the store. Your heart drops a little lower in your chest.
“Kimchi eggs,” He hums, then he provides an explanation you wish he hadn’t, “I have to head out soon.”
You force a smile, then you nod, then you turn around to grab the carton of eggs and container of kimchi from their respective shelves. Hoseok moved again when you weren’t looking — the reflexes on that man are simply absurd — and he now digs through one of your cabinets for a pan. There’s no reason for him to know where you keep them, so he’s either psychic or a phenomenal guesser.
He looks pleased with himself when he turns back around with a frying pan in hand; the triumphant smirk on his face makes you giggle. When you reach out to take it, though, Hoseok wags his finger at you, “If I’m eating the very last thing in your refrigerator, the least I can do is prepare it for you.”
“Are you sure?” You trap your bottom lip between your teeth to keep from admitting that no man has ever offered to cook for you before. If you tell him that, who knows what else you’ll let slip?
Hoseok answers by shooing you away and clicking on the bottom-right stove burner. To your surprise, he hums while he cooks — occasionally getting so caught up in the song that he sings. You watch adoringly with your chin in your hand as he finishes, plates his masterpiece, and sets yours down in front of you on the kitchen island.
He looks so natural as he plops down on the stool next to you, but Hoseok has never joined you in your kitchen before. You want to linger at his side all day, but you know that’s not how this arrangement works. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t ache a little, though.
Clearly, you’re both famished because your meals and breezy conversation are both finished too quickly.
To your dismay, Hoseok glances down at his watch. He sucks a breath in through his teeth before he looks up to meet your eyes. “Shit,” he says sheepishly, “I’m so sorry to leave you with the dishes, but I’m apparently going to be late for —“
“It’s fine!” You chirp with a smile you’re sure doesn’t reach your eyes. It’s not, but who are you to say so? “Thank you for cooking.”
He flattens his palms against the countertop and pushes himself to him feet. Casually and gently, Hoseok bumps his fist against your shoulder with a sideways smile.
The only thing he says before leaving is, “Go to No Brand or something later, okay? Your refrigerator makes me sad.”

many thoughts! number one being that if you don't know it, get someone who's above average fluent to help you if you feel like the language is needed in the story! and if the language is fake (like using kryptonian) then make the inclusion of it make sense! other thoughts are for my thinking only 💕 (and my unfortunate friends who have to listen to me lecture)

AH! hello! It has been days!
I have so many ideas I haven't done anything with yet lmao, but here's one I haven't shared yet!!
An au that takes place in the dsmp canon titled Hear No Evil, See No Evil, Speak No Evil.
Basically I wanted to write a fic with a deaf Tubbo, blind Ranboo, and mute Tommy. Tubbo would be deaf from the Red Festival onward, Ranboo has slowly been going blind his whole life from his tears. Tommy only goes mute after exile.
I've spent a lot of time thinking about the logistics and what that type of thing would change (I'm partially blind and love projecting <3)
Post Red Festival Tommy learns sign language along with Tubbo, and he would translate for him when other people didn't sign or if Tubbo couldn't keep up reading lips. One of the things Tubbo misses the most is the sound of Tommy's laugh, but it helps that he can see the way Tommy cackles. When Ranboo joins the server, Tommy briefly serves as the main translator for the two of them, because Ranboo has a really hard time learning signs when he can't really see them, and he can't write very well. (in this, instead of a memory book, he has a tape recorder!)
When Tommy is exiled, his absence is felt as a friend and as their translator. Ranboo works hard to write better, sometimes the lines trail off or overlap, but he practices working as Tubbo's minutes man, which is even more important in this au because even though Quackity is okay at signing, when things get heated people forget and Tubbo has an even harder time keeping control as president, so he needs those notes for reference, but there's also an extra dose of tenderness between Ranboo and Tubbo, as even though there's this slight disconnect they try so hard to understand one another.
When Tommy returns, when there's the community house fight, immediately everyone knows there's something seriously wrong. Before, at their first meeting, Tommy could sign his irritation and Tubbo didn't question it, but once it gets to the community house, everyone knows there's something wrong with Tommy, because even when he signed, he was ALWAYS loud. But even as he's told he has to defend himself, to plead his case with all these people watching him, he doesn't say a word. He signs, but only so many people can understand him.
AND! Tubbo and Tommy's fight. They would be incapable of fighting and talking at the same time, they'd need to have their hands free to sign, so what do they choose? Violence or communication? Maybe in the end they want to tell the other that they were hurt more than they wanted to hurt each other, y'know?
In the aftermath, after doomsday, the three of them end up sort of joined together by this need to help each other talk. Like. Tubbo always voices Tommy’s signs aloud for Ranboo, and Tommy will sign what Ranboo says in case Tubbo can't read his lips (which, sometimes he feels nervous about reading Ranboo's lips because he doesn't want to stray too close to eye contact and make Ranboo uncomfortable) The three of them communicate best when they're all together. When it's just Ranboo and Tubbo, Ranboo tries to write stuff down best he can. When it's just Ranboo and Tommy, Tommy will trace letters onto Ranboo's palm. Eventually, Ranboo gets a text-to-speech function on his comm, so Tommy can type out things and then Ranboo can hear them. Tommy and Tubbo do pretty well talking just the two of them, they sign. But Tubbo notices Tommy doesn't laugh like he used to, and sometimes before when they were sitting beside one another, Tommy would talk loud enough Tubbo could feel the vibrations in his chest, but that doesn't happen anymore.
If the three of them have some trouble communicating with each other, the rest of the server is worse. Even if it's not a literal communication problem, Bench Trio understand each other in a way others just can't.
Just, following the path of canon, there are so many other things this could bleed into. Beeduo divorce, Wilbur's revival, doomsday was so much Techno and Tommy shouting back and forth at each other, so what happens instead? Does Ranboo feel safe moving out to the arctic, where the blinding white snow makes what little vision he has left absolutely useless? Tubbo's presidency is a hundred times more isolating because without Tommy, he realizes how much he relied on him to translate.
So, yeah. :') been thinking about this one for literal years lmao.

people who don't leave comments or kudos or bookmarks or any kind of acknowledgement on fanfics or other fandom content... i see you. i understand you. everyone, myself included, has chosen not to show appreciation for fandom content creators at least once. usually many times. be it because we're too shy, or scared of repercussions, or feel overwhelmed with life, or don't value our opinions and think the creator won't either - or a million and one other reasons. it doesn't make you a bad person. if you have some kind of mental affliction or otherwise holding you back - it's fine.
however. when i post fics or meta or anything, really, i am basically stripping myself bare and lying at the side of a road for all passersby to see. by leaving zero acknowledgement, you are one of the people crossing to the other side of said road and leaving me to shiver in my ditch. i'm not gonna literally die lmao, so don't take it too seriously, but my thoughts, my art, part of me is quite literally bare and on display, and by choosing to ignore it, you metaphorically leave me on the side of the road to shiver in the cold and ponder my self-worth. everyone loves to say that we don't post fanfic or otherwise for praise, that we don't expect people to tell us how amazing we are - for me, personally, that is actually true. i would post fanfic/meta/whatever anyway. i write it for myself and i enjoy making others happy by sharing it. but if no one acknowledges whatever it is that i've stuck on the wide web for all to see, how am i to know that it's made someone happy? radio silence is disheartening, and insulting someone for acknowledging that is just extremely mean. a sense of community will never be forged by people pouring their hearts into free content and no one acknowledging it. or only other content creators acknowledging it.
no one in fandom literally owes anyone anything. enjoying a fic or a piece of fanart or whatever does not mean you owe anything to the person who chose, of their own volition, to create and post it. but... do you not feel the slightest sense of personal responsibility? do you not feel the urge to at least click a button or type a sentence or two letting someone know that you appreciate them? content creators are the backbone of fandom - they keep fandoms alive years after canon ends. we all - even content creators themselves - owe our fandom experience to the people who choose to do this. i don't know about you, but i want to let them know how grateful i am... whether or not they'll continue to post content regardless.

Clock Tower headcanons because yes (feel free to use these for your own hcs for him I don’t mind)
This is gonna be long. Brace yourselves (also a lot of these are gonna involve the dolls in the attraction and theres gonna be MAD angst so uh beware. TW for mentions of (doll) child death I guess?) oh and im prob gonna be calling him Clockenspiel throughout this post as my design of him uses that name.
• He behaves like a father to the dolls in the ride. The animals in the ride are considered pets, too. (And last time I checked there’s approximately 240 doll children and 60 animals on the actual its a small world so idk?? Could be wrong)
• Clockenspiel’s mental state affects those of the dolls. If he’s normal, the dolls will be, too. However, when he’s gone insane, the dolls will act more strangely too.
• This also makes me imagine when Clockenspiel has COMPLETELY gone mad and the bossfight happens, (if there was singing in the game), the dolls would gather around atop parts of the arena like alley cats stalking a mouse (ha.) and sing.
• Clockenspiel has control over the attraction. Sure, gremlins and people can mess with parts of it, but the overall functions and mechanics are under his control. (So yes, he can suddenly turn off every light except one to bring a spotlight on you.)
• “Can a clock tower need therapy?” YES. The thinner disaster and being abandoned for presumably decades (plus the song getting stuck at a point an playing nonstop according to the junior novel for Epic Mickey) degraded Clockenspiel’s mental health BIG TIME. More on this later.
• Theres plenty of reasons why Clockenspiel completely lost his mind once Mickey entered the area for his bossfight, but a possible reason in my headcanons is a mix of several things; If Mickey destroyed any dolls (aka his technical CHILDREN) on his way to reaching him (making him reasonably PISSED), perhaps he knew Mickey was just gonna leave through the projector screen once he reached Clockenspiel (which would probably cause a reaction like “you people left me abandoned for SO, SO LONG. And finally, when I see another toon again, all you want to do is LEAVE? Just like that? AGAIN?!”), maybe his security protocols triggered, maybe he just snapped at the moment Mickey walked in, etc…
• In the paint route, Clockenspiel is alive, and back to his usual, friendly, gentle-giant self, but he’s still struggling with the trauma and mental issues he got. Bottles of thinner stress him out, he cannot be left alone at night during closing time or else he’ll get REALLY, REALLY anxious and stressed (so someone has to stay with him for the night so he can actually “sleep” or just generally relax and not lose his mind all paranoid about being abandoned again), he’s trying to recover though, be nice to him.
• In the thinner route, Clockenspiel eventually shuts down, and at a point, dissolves enough with the thinner and sinks to the bottom of the river. Oh, and I haven’t decided on what to choose yet, but either the dolls will scurry off away from the area where Mickey kills him (if the dolls were watching), or the dolls will simultaneously shut down with Clockenspiel.
• The rules of the attraction are his “house rules”, break any of these rules (or just generally be disrespectful and/or rude), and he will NOT be pleased. At all. Seriously, you don’t want a giant clock tower to be mad at you. Just be nice and behave lmao
• I haven’t seen much on Epic Mickey 2 so take this headcanon with a grain of salt, Small World (and Ostown I suppose) is the only area in Wasteland perfectly safe for children, so many who live on Mean Street bring their kids there, making Clockenspiel pretty much a children’s icon for the kids in Wasteland.
• Clockenspiel cares about children, and is actually pretty capable of babysitting (although he WILL judge someone if they’re being a bad parent.), he can even entertain people on his own, playing music (since he could possibly be a giant instrument), playing little games, storytimes… he’ll also teach kids how to sing its a small world, so uh. Sorry if suddenly a toon kid just starts singing it over and over.
• Some people are slightly hesitant to trust him at first, since he’s a huge animatronic with enormous fists that could be considered dangerous, but he’s harmless when theres no danger around or he isn’t crazy.
• He can hold his friends using his hands! He’s very gentle, there’s nothing to be worried about regarding that.
• When being built, once people realized he was sentient, they quickly gave him arms (because it’s only fair to let him have SOME movement besides his head tilting if he’s gonna be alive)
• Clockenspiel used to be far more energetic when he was first built, but had to be taught to be more gentle and careful so he’d stop accidentally scaring people with his more high energy (because y’know, he’s HUGE). Now, hes more soft-spoken, and more careful and precise with every single one of his movements.
• The toon “armor” on his arms can be taken off. But he has to be very careful when doing anything without those parts so he doesn’t damage himself. (Plus he generally prefers to have them on more because they add to his more colorful color palette)
• As implied by the Clocktower Cleaners comic, he is allergic to his own dust.
• You’re lucky he’s so friendly and gentle! In game, theres 3 ceiling props of a sun, and 2 clouds, and whenever the Clock Tower attacks, the props violently bounce. Meaning this man can cause SHOCKWAVES just by hitting his fists on the ground. Good lord.
• He’s good friends with the gremlins. His very tall walls forming the facade help protect Gremlin Village, and the Gremlins help repair Clockenspiel whenever he needs it. And in general they seem to be close. (Which. Hurts a lot now considering in the junior novel, when Mickey destroys the clock tower, the Gremlins simply cheer on Mickey for stopping him from destroying everything with his fists. And the fact they abandoned him for decades but hey. Everyone was kinda fending for themselves.)

I don't even know Leon Kennedy since I never played the game or seen the movie (if there is) but I am so down for him! He's such a marshmallow! I liked how a dose of reality that his father probably won't approve of Sakura only made his resolve stronger. (I am bracing myself to be honest!)
i actually got into the series pretty recently! when the re2 remake came out my friend (who'd already been a fan of the series) got me to play the game with him and i've been spiraling ever since
and if we're talking about movies, well, here's a list and my short opinions on each if you or anyone else wanna take a deep dive into surface lore! (the games i get if no one's interested in those, they take a lot of time to get into but any playthrough is accessible on youtube! my favorites are the streams by ray narvaez jr)

Resident Evil film series (2002-2017): live action movies, main character isn't in any of the games. there's cameos from game characters, but i'm not really into these movies
Resident Evil: Degeneration (2008): animated movie, mains leon and claire and this leon's... fine. character consistency isn't resident evil's strong suit and let's just say we're not watching any of the animated movies for their A+ quality
Resident Evil: Damnation (2012): animated movie, mains leon, definitely a step up from Degeneration but still not my favorite leon! i'd say it's a pretty solid installment tbh
Resident Evil: Vendetta (2017): animated movie, mains leon and chris (and rebecca who i haven't mentioned in my crossover), HOT DAMN my favorite movie to date. the quips, the action scenes, the stupidest gun-kata you ever did see - 10/10, i've watched it too many times
Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness (2021): animated netflix miniseries, mains leon and claire, definitely the best visuals i've seen just because of the natural progression of how these kinds of animations go. leon? love him. plot? slackin. still watched it multiple times lmao
Resident Evil: Welcome to Racoon City (2021): live action movie... we don't talk about her. no, seriously. my friend (same one mentioned above) and I watched it in theaters, almost left at multiple points, then sat in the car for a solid 10 min after just in shock over how bad it was. but i've heard that it's a pretty good movie if you're not attached to the lore (even if the SELLING POINT WAS THAT IT FOLLOWED THE GAMES)
Resident Evil (2022): netflix live action sesries, whole new cast of characters, lost interest after ep 1 tbh so i can't give much here
Resident Evil: Death Island (2023): coming out in july and I'm HYPED
but in terms of mint limeade - brace yourself even harder! because it's the Mr. Kennedy vs Sakura stand off next!

Silent Reading Chapter 49. I just find it funny here Luo Wenzhou is half hard and cursing himself and his failure to find a partner, and in This Particular instance I don't even think Fei Du meant to flirt lmao. I mean, maybe he did, Luo Wenzhou does know him the best out of anyone and is good at reading people. It is Fei Dus style to cleverly touch someone then flit off leaving them longing for him lol. What's possibly the funniest part to me is Fei Du ramped up his flirting at first with basically "wanna try sleeping with me?" And after that he can only go downhill in intensity (unless he moves past verbal lol) and since he opened with a sex offer and Luo Wenzhou didn't respond, now he probably thinks it's Free Game to tease Luo Wenzhou nonstop without anything coming of it but a good laugh. Well jokes on you Fei Du, he's getting an increasingly frustrated crush you keep fueling and a boner (which I'm sure you'd find funny).
I mean, maybe Fei Dus falling too? I can't judge well. I can say he's warming to the idea of Luo Wenzhou as a role model though/a Ge like Tao Ran (but able to be flirted with too lmao). Since he's also trying to be nicer, a bit touched Luo Wenzhou secretly cared for him for years, and Luo Wenzhou gave him a fucking birthday dinner, and solves crime and Fei Du enjoys helping people by helping with that (and is now considering a job down thar route like his people Tao Ran and Luo Wenzhou). So naturally, he's a bit warmer to Luo Wenzhou now. But does he Actually mean his come ons, or is it a joke he'd back out from still? Not sure yet. Either way it's Extremely funny to me Luo Wenzhou felt he could simply Ignore attraction to fei du, while instantaneously Fei Du decided it'd be fun to see how hard he can make Luo Wenzhou. Like yall are a mess but clearly you're both happy so I guess keep doing what you want ToT
Also??? Hilarious Luo Wenzhou thought when he was young and graduated he was a lot like Fei Du. 3 guesses this is another area Fei Du "took after" surrogate caretaker Luo Wenzhou. Like of COURSE he's a playboy. The guy he grew up emulating (and rivaling trying to one up and beat and be Equal to) did it, so of course Fei Du was like "I can flirt Better I can have More Lovers I'm More Desirable" and when that wasn't enough "I can have Tao Ran when YOU can't (despite you know Tao Ran being wholly unavailable)". Speaking of, another thing Fei Du took after Luo Wenzhou was pursuing unavailable relationships, preferring them (either consciously or unconciously). Luo Wenzhou had yearssss with Tao Ran and is self aware enough to know his platonic partner spouse-replacement in life was never gonna get in bed with him and Serenade him and hold him in his arms. But he still kept flirting, putting that effort into Tao Ran when there were a number of dating partners over the years that if he'd directed the effort into he might be in a relationship now. On some level yeah it's hard to meet people (lol I feel Luo wenzhou a lil too much) but on the other it's like, my dude you're Clearly making sure the time and energy you'd spend ON a spouse you're putting into Tao Ran. You're making it so single is pretty much all you can be.
So Fei Du grows up, sees that, has his own innate life reasons to already be distant from everyone Except Tao Ran and Luo Wenzhou. Sees Luo Wenzhou get hung up on a straight man (likely for all those 7 years or at least many) and instead of oh I don't know, choosing Not to repeat the same mistake, he singularly focuses his first "serious courting attempts" on this straight guy too. 1 because he's one of the few people Fei Du does actually open up enough To like and get a crush on (probably only Tao Ran and Luo Wenzhou ever could fit that bill), 2 because he's straight as an arrow made of adamantium and therefore pursuing Tao Ran will never change the relationship and therefore cause things Fei Du might fear (while also scaring people off pursuing Fei Du seriously since he's "attached" to Tao Ran, and making people generally less inclined to approach Tao Ran and take him as a partner since they got Fei Du to compete with so Fei Du can keep his happy situation the same as long as possible).
It's really... no wonder these two idiots gravitate inevitably toward crushes whether they realize how much they did it to themselves by flirting lol or not. They've always used Tao Ran as their own "partner surrogate" and so it's natural to switch to using each other since Tao Ran has a girlfriend and they don't wanna make her or Tao Ran uncomfortable. But unlike Tao ran they both ARE into men so "surrogate platonic" partner is on less steady ground especially with them both physically thinking the other is quite nice. And emotionally already being extremely practiced at Turning their friend in this Triangle into their "crush they pursue" in a safe zone of knowing its always unavailable (or it was when it was Tao Ran). Cause as Luo Wenzhou thinks: if this were a stranger I'd pursue him, but it's Fei Du... but why does it being Fei Du matter? And of course, the answer is, because if Fei Du is the new "tao ran surrogate spouse" then he's supposed to remain platonic and always be unavailable. But when Fei Du flirts back... that's no longer true... he IS available (at least more than Tao Ran). Which means the familiar dynamic they were both hoping to replace with each other? Can not exist. It fundamentally can't. Because they both Are Available to some degree, would consider saying yes to sleeping together to Some Degree, horrifically might even consider marrying each other. Which opens them up to the abyss of fear that is the unknown they've DROPPED HEADFIRST INTO by pursuing each other.
Then the other part. They're already each other's closest people emotionally. Luo Wenzhous closest emotional bonds are Tao Ran and Fei Du, and Fei Du get "special" status as a boy he viewed as his responsibility which is an extreme he never tried to do for Tao Ran. That's finally waning as Fei Dus now seen as an equal (and now that it's waned the caretaking feelings are shifting to just broad care that's more compatible with romantic views of Fei Du). And then also, Luo Wenzhous already seen Fei Du at his (almost) "worst." Seen him say hey maybe I tried to kill my dad, say he'd enjoy killing someone, say he hates Luo Wenzhou... and that takes a level of trust in Luo Wenzhou. A level of trust Fei Du didn't risk with Tao Ran. And for all their fighting, Fei Du never totally cut Luo Wenzhou out of his life for HIS rude behavior, and Luo Wenzhou showed consistently for years he has no intention to stop caring for Fei Du ever even if Fei Dus a murdering asshole apparently. That level of trust and intimacy... even if built through fights after which they kept caring for each other/trusting each other Again to not leave them if they argued again? It's a foundation. A foundation Fei Du probably couldn't build with a new lover anyway, wouldn't want to, and Tao Ran was appealing cause this would never form. But it already IS formed with Luo Wenzhou. One of the scariest parts for Fei Du about being emotionally intimate and vulnerable with a lover he already HAS with Luo Wenzhou. So a more ideal partner doesn't exist. The "hardest" part of the work is done. He already knows Luo Wenzhou cares about him reliably, will not abandon him, and knows (most) of who he really is. Sleeping with him would just be opening a physical door they haven't yet which... to be fair is scary as it'd another area he'd now have shared honestly with the guy who knows him best, scary, but it's not like a leap from 0-100. It's a leap from like 75% to 100%.
However. I do think the bulk of their development right now is Fei Du wondering/fearing if Luo Wenzhou can TRUST him. Luo Wenzhou knows him yeah. But can Luo Wenzhou TRUST that if he kills someone, he has a goof reason? That if he hates someone, they did something deserving it? That if he makes a judgement call on something important, it's worth considering it important? Them solving cases together definitely Helps Fei Du build this trust. But I don't think he's there yet. And hearing Luo Wenzhou secretly helped him for years, seeing Luo Wenzhou at the grave, at his birthday, Luo Wenzhou saying he's a good person cause he helped mother He, Luo not even suspecting him of killing He Zhongyi when Tao Ran did... it all helps this trust. But to some degree Fei Du still feels like that kid, who fears he didn't do enough to save his mom, to get her to love him back, and she left him. And he's wondering if he's got some flaw that'll like his mom, "make Luo Wenzhou leave him." I get it. I feel you Fei Du. It's hard.
I predict there will have to be some scene at some point (at least I hope) where Luo Wenzhou has to trust Fei Dus instincts without logic agreeing with it (since so far Luo trusts him completely BUT logic also agrees fei du is right so it doesn't feel Luo believes him as much as "luos level headed when it's important"). Or a scene where fei du makes an awful choice, cruel choice, some action he can't take back... and Luo Wenzhou doesn't abandon him. Fei Du thinks he's a monster on some level (I think so - when you fear your parents pain is caused by you, you feel like a mistake, you feel like the reason for their upset even though it's not true) even before he thought the violent things he does now. I think on some level he wants to prove he is, show the people who still care (Luo) that he is, and see if they rightfully abandon him (which would confirm his self hate he's digging himself into a pit of). Anyway... I'll find out.
My point is. Luo Wenzhou already has all the ingredients to fall in love with Fei Du, he was just considering fei du "unavailable" by default in his head until recently. And fei du has more ties to Luo Wenzhou emotionally than anyone else, of all the people he could fall in love with Luo wenzhou is the one it could happen as easily as fei du deciding "I'll allow myself to." And the sexual jokes are fun for him I'm sure, but the instant he takes it from "haha hooking up would be funny" to "Oh I feel exposed and seen and vulnerable" he's going to be teetering on the edge of in too deep and already attached. So he's playing a fun game lol in which at some point he's gonna fall into his self made situation and then like cold water be shocked he's in love and exposed so thoroughly.

You won’t get anything out of her mouth. At any rate, you can’t torture a confession out of her. Are you really planning to call in a specialist on children’s criminal psychology this very night?”
Each word Fei Du spoke was true; all of these things were giving Luo Wenzhou a headache.
All of tonight’s operations lacked the support of real evidence. If they hadn’t rescued Chenchen in the end, having relied solely on Luo Wenzhou acting on his own initiative, shooting first and asking permission later, he’d have been in for it the next day.
He’d already driven up to the ground floor of the hotel. Surplus cold air assaulted the senses, carrying the scent of the lobby’s chill and serene incense, refreshing to the heart and mind.
Though it was the small hours of the morning, there was still a doorman on duty who energetically stepped up to welcome the guest.
Fei Du got out of the car and was about to go when he suddenly remembered something and turned back. He leaned down and knocked on the window of Luo Wenzhou’s car, then pulled open the driver’s side door.
“I left my phone,” he said. “Could you pass it to me?”
Luo Wenzhou gave an “okay” and picked the phone up from the passenger’s seat. He was about to pass it over, but Fei Du, seeming unable to wait, reached out his hand to take it.
His shirt, disheveled from the car accident, hung down loosely. From Luo Wenzhou’s point of view, he could just see into his drooping collar. His chest was a little thin, but, displayed under a set of clearly defined collarbones, it had a sense of restrained power. He hadn’t purposefully sprayed himself with cologne today, but this person’s degenerate flesh had absorbed all the world’s essences; from his collar came a faint, almost undetectable masculine scent, vanishing without a trace before it could be clearly considered.
Reaching out his arm to take the phone, Fei Du almost brushed against him; after this near contact, his finger, by accident or by design, touched Luo Wenzhou as he grabbed his phone.
Luo Wenzhou: “…”
In the middle of the night, for a young and vigorous man, interested in men and having no fixed partner, under the infinite stress of work, to be taken by surprise by this sort of provocation was no less tragic than for a person who had been fasting for three days to see a late-night online ad for a Michelin restaurant.
“I should still be here in the morning. Come find me if you need me.” Fei Du straightened as if nothing had happened, sticking the pestilential phone in his pocket. “I can talk to the girl for you. While I’m not an expert in troubled young people, I have a considerable wealth of experience being a troubled young person.”
Mentally and physically exhausted, Luo Wenzhou waved his hand. “Go away already.”
When Fei Du had really gone away, Luo Wenzhou stopped his car by the side of the road and smoked two cigarettes in a row before he had finally recovered from his awkward half-hard condition. He started the car and went back to the City Bureau, his heart full of vicissitudes in spite of himself.
When an ordinary person was busy with studies or work, he could still resolve his personal problems by the “blind date” method; matters were much less convenient for those with niche interests.
When he’d just graduated, Young Lord Luo had, like Fei Du, fooled around all over for a few years. Later he’d found that while dissolution was easy, finding a suitable person was very hard. Moreover, he’d found that so-called “enchantment” was a four-step process: first infatuation, then habituation, then insipidness, and finally a revulsion of taste. Adding in his increasing stress at work taking away his attention, Luo Wenzhou had slowly evolved an “elderly” lifestyle of going to and from work, coming home, and petting the cat.
But while his mentality was “elderly,” his body was after all still young; an enormous contradiction had arisen between his physiological and mental states. Luo Wenzhou had the perturbed thought that if he carried on like this, one day he just might take a shine to Luo Yiguo’s big fluffy tail.
He irascibly floored the gas pedal. The car groaned and gave a bound, charging towards the brightly lit City Bureau.

(chowlings) Seriously sick and tired of Tera in the server, just a selfish saunt simp who is so fucking entitled. A relationship doesn't work out for their chow? Time to guilt trip the other's owner and whine about it publically in the server in sales posts. They got a strike for this exact behavior and still keep copying the same guilting sales post LMAO. Someone shared their design WIP that had caution tape on it so they ran up and complained that it looked too much like their bestie's chow themed "Petri Dish" and it made the person feel terrible that they're scrapping it altogether (would have shown a screenshot but it was deleted after this). Like bitch your friend doesn't own the concept of caution tape on a tail. Their chow is bright red and brown while the design WIP was all scenecore and a mishmash of everything. Like there's so many designs on the ML that are so similar, but if it's your friend's, heaven forbid they use a portion of it, way to pick and choose your battles. Didn't even take it to DMs either, just nitpicked publically to shame them. They take everything way too personally, I seriously hope they fucking leave, they are a leech on the community, no wonder no one keeps relationships with their character, that they got from saunt for FREE 😂😂😂 Get your head out of your ass and learn that it's not all about you in the world. It's like alexdiren all over again, no one wants you here. Shame they're in other CS too apparently, they shouldn't be in any art communities at all.

Ahhh I love you, thank you for your interest <3 I rambled a lot and this got so long lmao so it's all under the cut! I couldn't ignore one because you know I love talking lmao
13. What feedback did you receive for your writing that stuck with you?
A classmate at uni read an essay I wrote for one of my classes (I almost failed that class because my professor failed said essay LMAO) and she told me that I should submit my writing to a magazine because my prose was good. My professor also called my prose 'impressive' so that was a huge compliment and I choose to focus on that now lmao.
Something else I often think about is how one of my classmates in high school worked at a radio station and asked me to join him for a discussion on writing. I had to prepare a short excerpt and read it out loud on the radio which was horrible because it almost made me cry because I was terrified LMAO but then it ended up more than fine, and some friends who listened to the program actually reached out to me and told me that they liked my writing – I know this feedback is really simple but I was 14 years old (same age as when I wrote that horrible 1D fic LOL) and it meant the world to me (and the overall experience did, too. Still does.)
Another one: when people told me my writing made them cry. Because it's like, I made you feel things? I caused emotions? What is this wizardry? The made-up story made people tear up? Wild.
Okay lol last one: A friend at uni asked if he could read my fanfiction lmfao and I was so self-conscious about it but I shared it with him anyway, and he texted me as he was reading it and he also gave me feedback in person. It was nothing specific, but just receiving thoughts from someone I know IRL and who enjoyed what I wrote (though he only read four chapters because it was too much lmao and he knew nothing about the fandom) meant SO much to me. Also he appreciated my jokes, and that always gives me a boost in self-confidence. We ended up joking about some aspects, which was also great – it taught me not to always take things to seriously! (And yet here I am overanalysing this lol)
14. What is something that you feel weird/uncomfortable writing about?
Easy. Physical intimacy. Lol. And I don't mean hugging and cuddling and snuggling, because that is more than fine, but as soon as it gets to a further level, I just can't do it. I feel so weird and extremely uncomfortable when trying to write it (and I have tried!) and it just feels so wrong lmao. I know why it's not for me, and I've accepted that it's too hard, I'm too self-conscious, and I admire everyone who has ever written it.
17. Tell us a fun fact about your current WIP.
I have two WIPs so I'll give you two fun facts that might not be 'fun' but it's all I can come up with. Fun fact 1 is that I thought I wouldn't have to do research, but it turns out that I don't know enough English terminology in music that I have to look it up all the time LOL
Fun fact 2 is that I am FINALLY embracing a hyperfixation I have had for three years now so I'm combining that with my other hyperfixation because why not. Pretty sure you can guess at least one of them, but it is amazing to finally write this after thinking about it for so long.
18. Show us a piece of dialogue you really like.
This dialogue is really short and all and it probably makes no sense outside of context but I thought it was super cute when I wrote it and you even pointed it out, so this is it!

19. Show us the line you want readers to remember from your story.
This is so hard. I don't know if I've written any memorable lines LOL uhm. Oh. Maybe the simple "I want to play volleyball." It makes no sense out of context, but in the context of the story, it means a whole lot and I always love to remember last lines in books that I read, so I tried to close my story with a meaningful line as well to round off the entire plot in a way that is satisfying for both me and hopefully the reader lol.
20. Do you have one piece of advice for your fellow writers?
Last year, I was at a workshop where an author (her name is Denise Mina) talked about her writing and gave tips on (crime) writing, and she said this: "If you can tell a story, you can write a story – you just have to write one sentence after the other." That kind of stuck with me, because it's true – so every time I have writer's block and feel like a failure, I try to remind myself of this and, although it doesn't always work, it sometimes does!
Another piece of advice is to write without being afraid of judgment, because there will always be people who judge you, no matter what you do and how you do things. Even authors who have won awards still receive criticism in many ways, and what one person likes isn't what another person likes. What I'm trying to say is that, when writing, you should always aim for what you enjoy, and not think about what others enjoy. That helps me to find actual enjoyment in the writing process, instead of constantly worrying about what other people might think. As long as I'm happy with my writing and my progress, then I've achieved my goal! (This is easier said than done and I'm still mortally afraid of people judging me LOL but it's a good reminder!)

Congrats!!! I discovered you right at the beginning of my obsession for Paul Dano and I have to admit, it's rare that I follow a person! Your writing is so captivating, I didn't want to miss your writings. When you started showing interest in Eddie Munson, I was a little disappointed and was afraid you were going to give up on Dano completely, buuuuuuut… I fell in love with Munson, of course. And realized that no matter what characters you like, I'm going to keep following you. You are part of my daily life and you have a place in my heart!

The first impression I give is not positive, according to my friends, colleagues and classmates, I look angry and cold. My gothic/metal/i dontknowbutitsalt style doesn't help me. Yet, I am pretty cheerful and have an easy laugh. I am happy to be here !
I am very nervous and anxious, my primary emotion is fear. I am afraid of death, storms, infinity, space, in short, my partner must accept that I am Shaggy AND Scooby.
It's hard to get my trust. It makes me feel like a princess in a castle that is protected by a dragon. One mistake and it's death, one wrong move and there's no going back, the trust is lost forever. And when it comes to my love life, oof… I'm demisexual, it's a bit impossible to win my heart. I'm looking for a Gomez Addams (AND I WILL FIND HIM).
I have BPD. My mood swings are drastic, it is not easy to live with this disorder (for others and for me). I tend to push away people who want to get to know me or give me affection, because I am afraid of abandonment, but I am also afraid of hurting them.
I spend my free time writing, drawing, sewing, knitting and crocheting! … and playing Stardew Valley. No, I won't say how many hours I have at this game, it's terrifying.

as for a stranger things matchup: im going to have to say eddie! for starters i think he would totally feel you on the "not positive" first impression thing (which i also totally get too lmao one of my friends recently told me he's wanted to be my friend since he first met me but always put off talking to me because i "looked angry" LMAOO) But yeah, no a lot of people think eddie is "scary" at first glance but it turns out underneath that he's a total sweetheart! so, on that front- you two will definitely know what it feels like to be judged as something you're not at first glance.
secondly, you say you have issues with trust, which is why i think eddie would be a good match for you, as we can see in szn 4 he's like, incredibly loyal to his friends, and he really cares about them a lot, he is not the type to ever get close to breaking your trust once he has it, he's the kind of guy that wants to earn your trust and keep it.
on the anxiety front too, he's also a great partner! while clearly being skittish at times himself, he does seem to try to make the people around him comfortable! for instance, the drug deal scene with chrissy: she's clearly nervous but eddie takes to lightening the mood, he makes her laugh and doesn't take himself too seriously and overall really just helps relieve any of the intensity in the air!
also- eddie would think your hobbies are totally cool, especially in regards to sewing! you could help him with his battle jackets, or patch pants,and DIY-ing his clothes since that's a huge part of the scene!
overall i think of the stranger things characters, eddie would be your best match! :) i hope you are satisfied with your match and again, thank you dearly for your kind kind words <33

hi! i really like your posts and recently i came across some anti kataang arguments and i would like to see your opinion on that (if you want to answer because you must be very tired of answering those lol)

hi anon! im very flattered you like my posts 🥰💛 and you’re not wrong that sometimes it gets a lil tiring addressing anti kataang arguments, but that’s because 90% of them are the same foolish rhetoric dressed up in a different costume, lol. i finally have some free time, so i’ll take a stab at these for you!

not gonna lie, this particular “argument” made me crack up laughing because they “remember perfectly… lots of times” but can only name one instance 😂 like i am on the floor, because trying to get away with that in a formal essay would earn them nothing more than a goose egg. you need evidence to support a claim, which this “claim” has none of. i mean,, when does aang force himself onto katara?? when katara initiates every cheek kiss they share?? when they are mutual participants in several shared hugs?? don’t get me started on DOBS - the Now or Never Kiss that falls under literally requires reciprocation from both parties, lol. but regarding the ever-so-infamous EIP episode they bring up:
This post talks specifically about EIP and the play’s portrayal of Aang and Katara (and how it cannot be used to define their relationship). This post explains the true source of Katara’s conflict in turning down Aang (i.e. the war itself and the risks the war presents for both of them) and why the EIP kiss did not “ruin” Kataang’s relationship. This post explains how the EIP kiss was resolved through narrative parallels. This post explains how the EIP kiss is so often blown out of proportion. This post explains how Aang did not “threaten” Katara in EIP (with some excellent commentary in the notes, too).
the fact of the matter is that yes, aang overstepped a boundary with katara there. no one has ever contested that because to do so would be to disregard canon, and here’s the thing about kataang shippers: we love atla canon. it gave us everything we wanted and more. (imo, that’s what anti kataangers don’t understand.) the EIP episode can be interpreted as a “low point” for many reasons, but the primary “takeaway” is that the play performed was imperialist propaganda that preyed on the gaang’s insecurities and demeaned them (much to the pleasure of the Fire Nation audience), which had negative consequences, one of which was aang kissing katara largely out of desperation. no one has ever excused that! thus, what i think isn’t clicking with anti kataangers is that aang and katara’s miscommunication in EIP is not a representation of their relationship being doomed to fail. aang made a mistake and immediately backed off without question or hesitation. katara has time to make her own decision and chooses to forgive him. doesn’t it strip more of katara’s agency away to conclude that katara could never ever ever forgive her best friend for a single mistake that - comparatively - could have been a whole lot worse?

here’s my thing about katara’s feelings in this ep: jealousy and annoyance are not inherently the same, it’s true. a person can be annoyed without being jealous (obviously). as such, there are essentially two possible interpretations that have validity, although one in my opinion has greater weight in canon:
1. yes, it is possible to interpret katara’s annoyance that episode as being solely related to their delays on kyoshi island. one can reasonably argue that katara’s romantic feelings for aang were not as strong so early in the series (it’s only episode 4, after all, although lbr - she was Looking at aang’s tattoos in episode 1 lmao), and therefore the primary reason she was annoyed at the fangirls is because they were one of the causes extending their stay on the island when katara felt they needed to leave. it’s a fair interpretation.
2. a different and stronger interpretation, in my opinion, is that katara’s irritation was a product of both annoyance at their extended stay and jealousy of the fangirls’ obsession with aang. because here’s the thing about jealousy: it doesn’t have to be some extreme, exaggerated emotion/reaction! when katara gets jealous of on ji in book 3, she makes a single comment about aang and on ji dancing together. when aang gets jealous of jet in book 2 (because of sokka’s teasing), he, too, makes a single comment (i.e. that it would be a bad idea for katara to kiss jet). i bring these two moments up because they explicitly demonstrate within atla canon that reactions of jealousy do not have to be dramatique and outrageous, à la zuko throwing ruon-jian across the room in book 3, lmao. jealousy can be simple! kept to oneself! as such, katara’s disgruntled manner in that episode - which, might i add, is largely if not only shown in reaction to aang with the fangirls - can certainly be interpreted as a quieter form of jealousy akin to several other moments within canon.
more than that, however, if the writers did not at all want jealousy to be an interpretation on the table… why on earth would they have bothered to mention jealousy as a possibility? here’s the relevant excerpt from the episode transcript:
Koko: [Stomps her foot in annoyance and puts her hands on her hips, while another girl happily waves at Aang; irritated.] What’s taking you so long, Aangy?
Cut back to Aang and Katara; the former enthusiastically waves back at his awaiting fangirls, while the latter raises an eyebrow at the scene.
Katara: [Slightly mocking.] Aangy…
Aang: [Enthusiastically.] Just a second, Koko!
Katara: [Sarcastic.] “Simple monk,” huh? [Annoyed.] I thought you promised me that this Avatar stuff wouldn’t go to your head.
Aang: It didn’t. You know what I think? You just don’t want to come because you’re jealous.
Katara: [Close-up; angrily.] Jealous? [More high pitched voice.] Of what?
Cut to a broader shot. Aang moves back slightly, when an irritated Katara resumes to ferociously stuff the basket with more fruits.
Aang: Jealous that we’re having so much fun without you.
Katara: [Irritated.] That’s ridiculous.
(sidebar, but can i just say that seeing “ferociously stuff” to describe putting fruits away is arguably the funniest thing i’ve ever read sjkdhsjalks)
to me, this excerpt alone all but proves katara’s irritation is a mixture of annoyance at the girls’ (and aang’s) behavior/their delayed departure and jealousy regarding how the fangirls’ fawn over aang. katara clearly demonstrates frustration at aang’s seeming lack of concern for their time crunch and how he’s letting his status get to his head (and remember, y’all: this is very early book 1 aang, he’s barely begun to truly reconcile what it means to be the avatar and the last airbender, which is understandable and a-okay! can’t have growth if he doesn’t start somewhere!). that checks out. but next thing you know, katara’s reaction proceeds to dramatically heighten when aang teases the idea of jealousy to her. again: why include this moment if jealousy was never on the table whatsoever as an interpretation for her feelings of irritation? why make katara’s response intensify so strongly if she’s not jealous even a little bit?
in sum, while i don’t think katara’s aggravation is solely fueled by jealousy, the episode itself points to jealousy as at least a part of it. simple!

okay, let’s take this claim one sentence at a time:

first of all. FIRST OF ALL. can you imagine the hellfire that would have rained down if aang hadn’t chosen to go rescue katara? here is a piece of the episode transcript:
… Right before he is able to completely open the final chakra and master the Avatar State, however, he hears a shriek from Katara and sees a vision of her in chains. At this, he jumps out of the energy sphere and runs away from the Avatar Spirit. The energy bridge that leads him there slowly vanishes behind him until it catches up and falls from underneath him, causing his image to plummet toward Earth. This cuts his connection to the Avatar State, which forces him back to reality.
Aang: Katara’s in danger! I have to go! [Prepares to exit.]
Pathik: No, Aang! By choosing attachment, you have locked the chakra! If you leave now, you won’t be able to go into the Avatar State at all!
Aang hesitates but leaves anyway, leaving Pathik concerned and disappointed.
aang chose to leave because katara was in danger. if he had chosen to stay,, dear god. the vitriol that would have been thrown around. “aang doesn’t really love katara! he chose not to save her!” “aang is so selfish and greedy! he chose power over love!” it’s literally a catch-22. damned if he does leave, damned if he doesn’t leave. #fandomlogic
anyways, yes, sure, aang chose to leave, which at the time broke the connection. he was indeed in avatar state limbo for a Hot Minute. whoop de do.

i have amazing news for those who perpetuate this take. aang did let her go! he would not have been able to enter the avatar state in COD if he hadn’t! point blank, it is utterly untrue to pretend aang did not “let go” of his attachment to katara. now, im not going to get into the concept of “attachment” here and what it truly meant for aang to have “let katara go” in the book 2 finale (if it was good, bad, etc. etc.). there is a lot of material to work with there that would require like,, an entire post to dig into, if not more. the fact of the matter is that aang did let katara go, and the proof is that he successfully entered the avatar state before azula killed him. the above claim thus sits in complete contradiction to canon and is a moot point.

“making them stay together” again, is it so hard for someone to just say “kataang isn’t my thing, im gonna stick to fanon pairings, but y’all have fun” i mean that really, really does not seem so difficult to me! also, “making” is a hilarious word to use just because,, atla is a work of fiction. in that respect, the writers “made” everything happen. you cannot escape their sphere of control.
anyways. that’s just funny to me lmao
but no, aang and katara did not get together in a romantic fashion just because aang was the lead male protagonist and katara was the lead female protagonist. i refer back to these posts from earlier:

aang and katara got together because their relationship had been developed since episode 1, duh. reducing their relationship to “lead guy + lead girl” completely disregards the legwork done and the foundation laid for their romantic partnership. like, all someone has to do is rewatch the show 😂 and i hate to break it to whoever created that take, but to say kataang “adds nothing to the plot” again ignores how their relationship is one of the two most important in the show (the other being aang and zuko’s relationship as narrative foils). it is not a cheap coincidence that kataang embodies multiple complementary themes/motifs of atla: push and pull, yin and yang, air and water, oma and shu, etc. etc. their relationship adds emotional depth! how is that not relevant to the plot! atla is a show where just about every relationship is important in some regard (this post touches upon how aang alone transforms all of his friends - think of the bigger picture, then, and how every other dynamic weaves in a crucial thread to create the beautiful tapestry we call atla!).
my point is that kataang is relevant to the plot the way every relationship in atla is, whether or not someone ships/enjoys them. you cannot have a good show without having intimate relationships (emotionally, i mean). can you imagine if someone said zuko and iroh’s relationship wasn’t relevant to the plot?? there is a reason it is such a powerful moment when iroh and zuko reunite in the finale. similarly, there is a reason yue’s sacrifice and sokka’s consequential (and lasting) grief is so poignant. there is a reason it is so heartbreaking when katara and sokka have to leave behind their father at the beginning of tsr. to tie back to kataang, there is a reason it is so hard to watch katara dismiss aang in that same episode. there is a reason so many people are moved when katara pulls aang out of the avatar state when appa is stolen. there is a reason emotional reactions are incited during atla and it is because these relationships are so important!! i don’t care if someone thinks kataang is “boring” - that’s their opinion, they have a right to it. but to insist their relationship wasn’t relevant to the plot? to the story? when in fact it was a key component from episode 1?
