Vox HCs entry #2

Warnings/CW: discussion of toxic masculinity, SFW

A/N: just various thoughts I've had about this man.

- He is a musical theatre/drama fan

He gives me this energy so much due to how dramatic he is in general. His first instinct when Alastor comes back is to instantly make a callout on live TV in the form of song. 💀

I feel like he listens to musicals in 'secret' - but it's not actually nearly as much as a secret as he thinks it is. I feel like in general he gets very loud when he's passionate or excited about something.

I just have a mental image of him thinking nobody in Vee tower can hear him while he absolutely yells the lyrics of a song with headphones on at full volume while dancing out the choreography to the song.

He'd deny everything about it if you brought this up however. He grew up in the 50's and due to that I feel as if he would be very insecure about it. I'll elaborate more on that in the next point.

He is from around the 50's time period, and due to that I feel like he would have a lot of internalised toxic masculinity.

He is on and off with Val who's obviously GNC, so I think he doesn't gaf too much about others and what they wear and do anymore

But I think he has a lot of shit he directs towards himself still.

Elaborating on the liking theatre thing and denying it: I think he would stubbornly deny it because he thinks it's 'too feminine' for himself to be interested in and that he thinks it makes him 'less of a man' and shit kinda like that.

I also think because of this he also has horrendous perspectives on showing emotion.

It is already canon that he hides behind a mask at all times, but I feel like even if he 100% trusts someone to be genuine around them he still wouldn't let himself do so due to thinking he's 'less man' if he does things like cry or directly seek any kind of support - especially emotional - outside of his usual compliment fishing behaviours.

I don't think his perspectives usually pertain to others as he's had a lot of exposure to different more up-to-date / nonconforming people with Val and Vel - but I do definitely feel like he has hella internalised bullshit.

Dating him in this aspect would be hard because you would need to be there reassuring him that it's okay to do things which society deems as 'feminine' - especially with what 1950's society deemed as being normal and abnormal for men.

He needs reassurance so bad about it.

I can see him as trying to keep up his mask of not needing any kind of help from you even when it's obvious he's cracking under whatever (pressure, overwhelm, stress, etc. Etc.)

- This man can't dress himself well for shit

This man's closet outside of his usual outfits is largely button-up/polo shirts and cargo shorts with the most horrifically ugly patterns you've ever seen in your life.

The only reason his outfits look good ever is because of Vel forcing him to not dress like shit.

I can imagine him walking out of his room in a blue and red polo and black cargo shorts with a snapback on and Velvette and Valentino just looking at him in utter horror. 💀

I also like the idea of him having equally chaotic socks. Like you have the usual put together outfit he has on, but then he takes off his shoes, and they are eye shatteringly ugly with words printed on them.

It's ironic because if you date him he will be probably pissy about you dressing well going out together.

He's a hypocrite 🙏

- He doesn't like sweets

I can see him as not liking things that are sweet at all.

He absolutely takes his coffee black as well, it's the most bitterest gag-worthy flavour ever and you are terrified at how much he seems to like the taste.

The sweetest thing he does like in the way of drinks is diet coke.

I feel like he survives on energy drinks, but I don't think he enjoys them at all and just tolerates them.

He doesn't like desserts either. Maybe tiramisu but not frequently.

I can see him actually liking dark chocolate though. I feel like he likes bitter things.

He's totally an absolute cunt about it as well.

If he sees you having coffee with milk/creamer and sugar he's the type of person to go "ugh. I don't know how you can drink that." While fake gagging at you.

A/N I have multiple ideas for drabble/fics, but my brain decided to write this out for now.

If you like sweets a lot he would be annoying as fuck about it 100%

I'm a bit hesitant to post like full fics or drabbles as I don't want to in the moment be like 'yeah, this is great!' Then look at it the next morning and be tweaking out because it feels OOC or I could have worded things better. Perfectionism is a fucking nightmare 🗣/lh

Not me furiously writing this idea dump/ficlet on my phone at the kitchen table to get the idea down and then running here to post it 🤣 CW: Phantom (Aeon) Pillow Humping, Voyeurism, Unresolved and Resolved Sexual Tension, Polyghouls ⛧——————⛧ Thinking about Phantom coming into his Earthly sexual awakening while on his first tour. Everything leading up to the tour was so busy and chaotic and filled with him learning how to be the rhythm guitarist for the band that he didn't really have much time to look into or even really think about sex beyond a quick hand or a pillow hump when he gets too pent up.

But then he's in a tour bus with 8 other Ghouls, all whom have high libidos, and suddenly his body decides to really start waking up and making literally everything about his packmates attractive. There's not one of them that he isn't wildly attracted to, and it starts to become a problem because he's going to be spending extended time with them in enclosed spaces for the next six months.

This is where I think his humping tendencies come from. He's so dizzily attracted to them all, but he feels like he doesn't want to mess things up, move too fast or commit a social faux pas and then end up stuck in an eternally awkward situation for the rest of the tour. He'd honestly almost rather be sent back to the Pit than have to deal with his pack hating him for any reason.

So at night, he almost always rubs one out by laying on his stomach and either humping the mattress of his little bunk, or taking his pillow and shoving it up under his hips, almost biting through his lip to hold in his little whimpers and squeaks and moans. He tries to hold it in, but after a while he just can't help it, accidentally teasing himself to the point where he's so desperate that his hips just start moving without thinking about it.

Of course the others know. Yes he might be able to stay relatively quiet for the most part, but that has nothing to do with the smell of him. He reeks of pent up Ghoul more often than not, and the only reason why no one has pounced on him yet is that they see his hesitation, and also don't want him to feel pressured. It's a silly miscommunication thing, but eventually, I think someone has to stop Phantom from stinking up the bus and staring longingly at the rest of them with those big little puppy bat eyes.

I imagine either Dew or Swiss would finally think enough is enough, and hatch a plan. A way to show Phantom that the desire is mutual without having to confront him about it because the little Quint will just deny till he's purple (more purple) in the face.

Late night on the bus and all the pack is asleep for the most part, but the telltale desperation leaks from Phantom's bunk, and either Swiss or Dew's bunk is right across the isle. A little curtain on both bunks is the only thing visually separating them, and either Dew or Swiss start jerking off, being a little louder and perhaps a little more showy, letting the curtain on their side be open just enough that you wouldn't directly see what they were doing, but it'd be obvious by the movement of their arm and the soft moans from their lips.

Phantoms heard sex on the bus plenty of times, and bites on a whimper as he starts to grind a little against the mattress. But what's different is that after a moment he hears his name on a sigh and he freezes, eyes bulging open, thinking he's been caught. But no, there's no other movement besides soft 'schlicking' sounds. Telltale that someone is getting themselves off.

Phantom's body flashes with heat so strong he gets dizzy, his cock blurting wetly into his underwear, and he actually almost bites through his lip to keep his noises down.

He has to see if he can see, he just has to at this point. As carefully as he can, he scoots close to the curtain, and edges it open just enough so he can peek his eye out and look.

And there's just enough light of passing freeway lights that Phantom can see the profile of either Swiss or Dew; chin to chest and panting softly, gentle moans slipping past their lips every once in a while and of course poor little Phantom can't stop his hips now, not when met with such a vision. As much as his eyes want to slip closed he keeps them open, enraptured with the beauty of the Ghoul across from him.

After what could be seconds or hours—Phantom's mind cant focus on the passage of time of all things with this vision in front of him—the utterance of his name once more catches his attention, and this time he gasps when he sees the other Ghoul tilting their head to look towards his bunk, their eyebrows pinched in desire and longing. Phantom can't help it, he cums right then, an obvious keen slipping past his lips as the force of his orgasm causes him to curl in on himself. He empties cum all over the inside of his briefs, it soaking through and pushed into his sheets by his still humping hips.

Unfortunately he doesn't see the other Ghoul's orgasm, but finally comes back up to Earth after another period of time he can't account for. His bunk curtain pulls back suddenly, and he almost shrieks, but he watches at the other Ghoul leans back in his bunk, a satisfied look on his face.

Phantom watches, hardly breathing and petrified at being caught, but either Swiss or Dew just settles back down, a flush of pleasure and exertion still touching their cheeks. They scoot to the edge of the mattress on their side before reaching a lazy hand over the gap of the isle.

The small Quint Ghoul stares from hand to face and back again for several long moments, before the Ghoul across from him offers a fond little smile, and wiggles their fingers in invitation.

Tentatively scooting to the edge of his own bunk, Phantom reaches out with a shaking limb, just far enough to hook fingers with the other Ghoul. He gets a little squeeze and maybe a wink in return, plus a hushed little "we want you" with enough conviction that makes Phantom's heart pound and his face flush up a pretty violet.

Content with his message, the Ghoul across the isle smiles fondly again, and offers a small little peck to the air, and it takes Phantom a moment to realize it's for him. Before he can offer his own in return, the other Ghoul releases his fingers with one more squeeze, and settles down to go to sleep.

Phantom pulls his fingers back and pulls them to his lips, the pads of them still tingling from the contact.

They want him?? They want him.

The giddy little breathless giggle that comes out of his mouth makes the other Ghoul smile.

There, problem solved.

Afterwards Phantom becomes so much more comfortable. Not only does his pack want him physically, but he realizes that they actually do want him there on the tour, in their pack, part of their lives. It gets so much easier after that.

Not to say that doesn't stop Phantom's humping habits of course.

Make Sure to Double-Check Labels

I've seen this phenomenon a lot in Thai BL fandom over the years, so I just wanted to make a very gentle post to encourage people to always check their sources before using a sexuality label for anyone.

If someone hasn't given a label, I think it's best to respect that. Please don't give them one.

If your favorite actor is a cis man who presents himself with a feminine flair and has previously dated men, you may see people referring to him as gay. But before you follow suit, please look into whether he's actually used that label for himself.

There's a very fine line you can walk thinking, "Oh, but I can tell," before you jazz-hands yourself into the world of stereotyping.

My go-to example for this is Earth ("Cooheart"). My information might be out of date, but the only label I've ever heard directly from him was on an Instagram live where, if I'm remembering correctly, someone asked if he's gay. He said he's "LGBT." Yet, there are scores of fans who have been casually calling him "gay" for years ever since before I joined the fandom. Maybe he is, maybe he isn't. Maybe he used that term at some point. But as far as I know, he hasn't, so I just call him queer. (And that's only because calling a person all four letters of "LGBT" isn't something we do in English. It's more commonly used in Thai as a loan word to mean "queer" from what I've been told by friends who speak Thai.)

A more recent example is Supanut. In an interview, he said he dated a girl he met online when he was about thirteen or so, then he dated a boy when he realized boys could feel attraction to each other, and then later a man. Supanut didn't use a label for himself, and yet people have started calling him "Bi King." There are plenty of gay people who have dated other genders for various reasons, there are ace and aro people who realized their orientations later. The point is, unless Supanut himself gives a label, the fact that he dated a girl, a boy, and a man only means that he dated a girl, a boy, and a man.

On the other side of the labeling, Krist is called straight pretty universally, likely because he blew up on an IG story once and denied being gay after people kept harassing him to come out as Singto's boyfriend. However, as far as I or any of the long-term fans I've spoken with about it know, Krist has never used any label for his sexuality. The closest I've seen are when he answers "what's your type of girl" questions and the time he said something like, "If I ever date a man, I'll be open about it because I want my fans to know that part of my life," so he seems openminded more than anything specific.

Then you've got Prem who once said in an interview (paraphrasing) that he never thought of dating men before he worked in BL, but now he doesn't care about gender when considering romantic partners. But, as far as I know, he's never used a label.

I've noticed that a lot of Thai actors are private about the labels they use—if they use any! There are a fair number of queer actors, and friends living in Thailand have said that that information is more commonly known among domestic fans, but whether or not it becomes information for the global public to have is up to each individual actor to decide.

Years ago, Fluke Natouch used the label "gay" for himself in an interview about his casting in Until We Meet Again. If I'm remembering correctly, he asked New (the director) if him being openly gay would be an issue when promoting the series. Presumably he was concerned because the agency he'd just left wanted him to be more discreet about his sexuality, and he's been independent ever since.

Even now, sexuality is still a very difficult thing to navigate, especially if you're young or in the spotlight or part of a widely conservative culture. The internet is rife with misinformation, so always, always make sure to check your sources. Unfortunately, we can't just trust that everyone is doing their due diligence, and I think it's an act of true kindness and deep respect to make sure your facts about people are in order before you speak of them. Especially when you're in someone else's cultural backyard, and especially when their safety and mental health can be so easily compromised by what people say about and to them.

NOTE: I used the above examples based on what I know. It's entirely likely there's additional nuance and context in every case, so if you have additional resources, please link them! It can be difficult to stay on top of things in a language you're still in the very beginning stages of learning, so if we can help each other, we'll be better off than trying to keep up-to-date on our own.

Today on things in TSatS that I love: the first encounter with Epiales. Not the nightmares they give Nico and Will (although those are also good, especially the bit where Will wakes up and is immediately like "Of course it was a dream, Nico would never"), the encounter with them personally. Because the way Nico first tries to distract Epiales with false compliments while he gets himself into a position to obliterate them is very much the sort of thing Percy would do; Percy's go-to strategy tends to be "lie to and trick your enemy at every opportunity", I can absolutely see him going "Oh yeah you did great work you're fantastic at nightmares please ignore me gathering my power" in this situation. But when Nico tries it... it totally fails. Epiales immediately sees through it. And I love that, because Percy and Nico have very different MOs when it comes to dealing with situations involving talking to an immortal being like this!

Like, the thing is that Percy is a liar. And I don't mean that as a bad thing; it's a viable strategy for the situations he ends up in, and while to an adult mind his tricks seem to only work because every god and monster he faces is a moron I remember being impressed with them as a kid, so they're clever enough for the target demographic. But if you look at his interactions with immortal beings, he tends to go for lies and tricks first. Nico on the other hand is actually an incredibly honest person. Other than that time he claims he and Thalia are fine when they are Absolutely Not Fine in BoO, his few lies are lies of omission. In TLO he just doesn't mention his planned detour in the Underworld to Percy and when Percy finds out about it he's very forthright with what (he thinks) will happen, and in SoN he never actually denies knowing Percy, just doesn't confirm it (when Percy says they've met Nico's response is just "Have we?", turning the question back on Percy; it's actually possible he was trying to subtly test how much Percy remembered, since if he properly remembered Nico rather than just having a feeling he'd argue the point). It's a nice touch that this approach extends into how they handle enemies, where Percy is willing to lie to them but Nico tends not to.

So Nico tries Percy's method of dealing with Epiales, lying to them and tricking them to put a being that's absolutely more powerful than he is at a disadvantage, and it doesn't work because Nico doesn't lie to people. That style of trickery isn't his way, so Epiales immediately sees through his attempt. The actual fight against Epiales is fun because Nico does have a knack for dream magic (even if TSatS mostly forgot about that, can Rick please be consistent about Nico's powers) so once he knows it's a dream caused by someone directly in front of him he can snap himself out of it pretty easily. And then Will basically just uses rock-paper-scissors on them, since light beats darkness. But once Epiales is subdued Nico and Will just choose to be nice to them; there's no benefit in it for them, it's not a ploy, they're just choosing to be kind. The bit where they pause to offer Epiales genuine compliments on their work is... honestly quite sweet, I love them actually taking that moment to say "No, no, that was really impressive, it was tough to get out of". There's a difference between being opponents and being enemies, and you can really see here how the boys don't see Epiales as an enemy now that they're not in their way. I also find myself wondering: does Epiales attack when they see Will hesitate because they think it's a moment of weakness they can take advantage of... or because it'll be better for them to get killed and resurrect than to admit to Nyx that they even semi-willingly let Nico and Will go, and they want to make it easier on Will to finish the job when it becomes clear he can't bring himself to do it without cause? Because honestly I feel like with the way Epiales interacts with the boys (and the way Nyx treats her children) it could go either way.

But there's another part of it that I find interesting, which is... if Nico had successfully tricked Epiales in that first instance, getting them to lower their guard through compliments and then cutting them down, there's a good chance Epiales wouldn't have turned against Nyx at the end. After all, why would they risk their mother's fury for the sake of people who tricked them? Just in general, it's a little unclear why Hypnos turns on Nyx (I think his part in things would've been a lot stronger if he'd actually... y'know, spoken to Nico and Will at any point), but the impression I get is that for Nemesis at least and likely Epiales too it is at least in part a genuine fondness for the boys. Which is something Epiales would not feel if instead of complimenting them and only blasting them to bits when they forced the issue the boys had tricked them in order to kill them quickly. It's like... tricking Epiales would've dealt with them quicker and more easily in the short term, but in the long term Nico failing to trick them and instead kicking their ass and then being nice about it worked out much better; instead of making an enemy, the boys got at worst a fairly neutral acquaintance out of it! Which, going back to how tricking Epiales would've been Percy's move, is really interesting when you compare Nico having a very unusual number of gods and other immortal beings in his corner to Percy making enemies wherever he goes. There really is something to Nico making so many powerful friends because he consistently chooses to be kind even though so often in people's POVs they go on about how creepy and weird he is. Although I do wonder sometimes if it's as simple as Nico legitimately just being a very kind person or if it's partially that he's just as cunning as Percy but more focused on the long-term than the short-term. If it's the latter it's probably a good thing for the monsters that they don't tend to directly work together, because Percy's knack for tricking gods and monsters to get the advantage in the short term to the point where he can win a fight against the god of war combined with Nico's knack for winning the affection and even loyalty of immortal beings in the long term to the point where he can essentially get divine intervention on his behalf for free would either be a total disaster for them or absolutely terrifying for their enemies. Either they'd cancel each other out or they'd just become utter nightmares to deal with (even more than they are already), which... honestly I would like to see either way.

Also I adore Nico lowkey fanboying over Epiales because he thinks they're just so cool. Even though the way Nico is clearly drawn to every nonbinary character he meets but is never confirmed nonbinary himself Irks Me. Rick, Mark, please give us this? It really felt like it was going that way, I would legitimately buy another spinoff solely for Nico being confirmed nonbinary.

How did you feel about the Hyde cheating on Jackie storyline, given all of that cheating nonsense she dealt with with Kelso?

Yay, a Hyde and Jackie question! (fuck Danny Masterson, he can choke).

Um, obviously as a shipper I don't like the storyline and I don't excuse Hyde but I get it and I think it works for the character, as in it makes sense that Hyde did that because it's a defensive reaction, like

1. Hyde's parents abandoned him

and when they were around, they were neglectful at best

2. This is the first real relationship Hyde has and it requires a level of vulnerability from him that he isn't used to giving -- because of 1 --

so this is all new/scary to him, it took him how long to even refer to Jackie as his girlfriend but in his own way, he’s consistently putting himself out there for her,

including potentially losing his friendship with Kelso

3. By this point, there had already been the Annette incident

and Kelso had been needling at Hyde and had been trying to get in between them for weeks

and during the Annette incident, he revealed an insecurity he had about their relationship (even if not presented in that way)

and that sort of comes back up just before he hooks up with the nurse

So, with all of these things for context, I understand Hyde seeing them on the couch and not confronting them and just bailing

because that's what he's used to happening to him (see #1) and he’d already done something that doesn’t feel comfortable to him, which is express how he feels

Plus, in his mind, he'd already given Jackie a second chance by letting the Annette thing go and he felt like his trust was violated again, and later on in the season, he tells Kelso that he’d never felt this way about a girl before

so seeing the two of them together when he thinks the two of them had cheated deeply hurt him

and I think it’s also important to note that in the Annette incident he talks about how Jackie “makes you stupid“ because he feels stupid for falling for her

and this time, he says that he feels like an idiot, which I take to mean that, he gets back together with Jackie after she told him she loved him and he feels like an idiot for believing that she did

he went against his natural defence mechanisms because he loves her and wants to be with her,

and it led to what he thought was another betrayal and he reacted defensively.

I know that some people and maybe myself have said that he cheated as a way of breaking up, I think that’s a bit debatable particularly because he doesn’t say ‘no’ when she asks if he still has a girlfriend

and he couldn’t be sure that somebody would see him and the next day/episode when Kelso talks to him, Hyde at first acts like nothing is wrong, like he didn’t see Kelso and Jackie on the couch, like he didn’t sleep with someone else, he doesn’t try to find Jackie either, he just does his regular thing

and he himself refers to it as cheating, which implies that in his mind he’s still with Jackie

What I will say is that he doesn’t deny it when Kelso directly brings it up, and he also wasn’t trying to hide what he was doing when he did it, like Kitty was only a few feet away, Kelso works in the hotel, Jackie visits him there frequently so I think it’s more accurate to say that for him it was a they-see-if-they-see-because-I’m-doing-nothing-wrong situation, that he felt completely justified in doing what he did, kind of like tit for tat until he realizes he wasn’t justified at all

As we see in season 6 when he has a date with another girl after Jackie chooses him, Hyde isn’t interested in two-timing Jackie or being dishonest with her

Kelso, on the other hand, consistently lied to Jackie to keep cheating with hook-ups like Pam Macey or two-timing her with Laurie. In season 4, he says that his cheating is a direct result of her verbal abuse, which I thought was a story point that happened way too late in their relationship and that goes absolutely nowhere but even if I did take that as a story point that contextualizes his behaviour, that doesn’t change the fact that Kelso has a pattern of cheating on Jackie and lying to her

and using her for her money

and stringing her along

and that just wasn’t what was happening with Hyde and Jackie so while I would of course have preferred that he hadn’t cheated on her at all, it’s one of the very few times I’ve found cheating as an obstacle for a ship to work where there’s no character assassination for the cheater.

You know, this one particular phrase from Gou in episode 133 bothered me when I first watched the ep and it still bothers me a lot, even though I think I know why it's there now:

Hi hello I'm back with a textwall about Gou lmao. So yeah, what bothered me about this line in particular was that it came pretty much out of nowhere. Even worse, his character arc throughout the whole show had been him learning to let others in and letting them help him instead of going on ego trips all the time. So for 100+ episodes we have this slow and imo great build up to Gou learning exactly that. To communicate with his Pokémon and people, to work together with them instead of denying help because he had always been on his own when younger. Then suddenly this sentence is meant to be a new and important realisation of his and leads to a sudden 180 arc in the last few episodes of him lamenting being too reliant on Satoshi and others in general. And that's why he has to travel on his own now. You know, if there had been clear build up to that, I wouldn't have minded that conclusion at all. People first being reluctant to trust anyone and then clinging too much to someone to a point where they're scared of doing anything if they're not around is a very real thing and a nice idea for a character arc. But the issue here is that the "too dependent" sentiment suddenly happened in the last four episode of the series, with no signs whatsoever beforehand that he was over relying on his Pokémon or Satoshi. Quite the opposite, he's always been perfectly fine with doing things on his own. It's noticeable that he was still worried about having to work with others without Satoshi around, but the entire Project Mew arc took care of that. As for the Pokémon, he's often taken the role of the person the Pokémon rely on too, an obvious example being Grookey. The very episode he says this and its follow up even focus on Grookey taking the role of the protector instead of the protected for once. Also whenever Gou does rely on his Pokémon, it's in situations where he obviously would have to, unless he thinks he's a prick for having his physically stronger Cinderace battle a Pokémon instead of him himself throwing fists with idk, Mewtwo lol.

So even though him saying he's spooked of travelling alone and being too scared to tell Satoshi directly while Satoshi comforts him is a cute scene in the end, it is also a decision on Gou's end that didn't have any build up. Him saying in the episode prior that he chose this because he'd rely on Satoshi too much didn't have any build up.

Anipoke is no stranger to throwing in jarring decisions at the end to justify the existence of the next series, Game Shark user Tobias from DPP being probably the most obvious and famous example of that. But, correct me if I'm mistaken, it's never harmed an individual character's writing that much. Heck, it's never harmed a relationship between two characters as much. Satoshi and Gou had been built up as these best friends 5ever who slowly become closer and closer throughout the series. Gou says in the second to last episode that he thinks Satoshi would totally just tell him to go for it, to do the solo journey if he feels like it. It's exactly what he said too, so Gou certainly understands his buddy by now. However, this scene would have been the perfect opportunity to have Satoshi be called out on his niceness there, because sure he's a nice and supportive dude. But we know that he enjoys hanging out with Gou. We know that he misses him when he's not around. Heck, we see in the last episode, when they seperate, that he's not exactly happy to part ways with his friend. He completely puts Gou's sudden desire to travel by himself over his own desire to keep being around his friend. As if there's some outside force that forces them to separate against their will. As if they didn't have a choice but to go separate ways because what they wanted to do was impossible with the other around. But in the epilogue (and MPM) they literally do the same things they did together the 100+ episodes prior, so there clearly was no narrative reason for this.

So with all that said. Sorry for the longass text lol, I was thinking about just throwing this into my Satogou essay, but I don't think it really fits there so here we go. SO WITH ALL THAT SAID I think MPM's existence, the way the series goes, the knowledge of what the last episode seems to be about, the knowledge of the change of executive producer between JN and MPM and Yuyama's Animedia interview about MPM, I think the reason for the sudden change in character makes sense. Hear out my super kewl theory

The Yuyama interview makes it sound quite clear that MPM wasn't exactly planned ahead, unlike decisions like Satoshi winning the PWC and making way for a new series this year. It feels oddly disconnected from the series, because even though Satoshi uses old Pokémon and briefly travels with Misty and Brock again, the places they visit are deliberately nameless. And the episodes themselves, while conceptually just like any other "helping Pokémon of the day" episode prior, have little connection to stuff that happened in the actual show outside of small references like Rattata or Beedrill. While we still have to see the conclusion to the Latias plot, it feels more like a spontaneous idea to connect these 10 episodes until the last one than anything.

Oh also a relevant tidbit of information is that Yuyama equated the title of Pokémon Master to a rainbow, e.g. something you're fascinated by and try to reach without ever being actually able to. Might explain JN's heavy usage of rainbows, at least to some extend.

In conclusion, I think what has happened is that JN was written with it being Satoshi's last series in mind. And Gou has been written as the ideal counterpart to him, basically. He's essentially the Lugia to Satoshi's Ho-oh if you wanna, hence both of these mons appearing in the last JN ep. So from his conception, Gou was never meant to go separate ways with Satoshi. But then they realised they have three whole months to fill until the new series is able to premiere. And the idea of MPM was basically born, Misty and Brock as a no brainer nostalgia bait (as per Yuyama's words, the decision to have them be the companions for MPM was so certain he doesn't even remember how they got to the conclusion), episodes that fill the void until the new show etc. Of course to recreate the og trio, they'd have to get rid of anyone but Satoshi from the previous show. How do you get rid of a character that has been established as basically having no reason to leave the other main character and who's relationship with said character had been highlighted so much in both the show and promotional material? You just make up a reason lmao.

And yeah, I mean, as I said, Anipoke is no stranger to sudden decisions like that. Shudo, the chief director from OS to Johto said how he wanted to give the show a proper ending and wasn't able to because the show had to go on. The DPP series was clearly written to build up to Satoshi winning the league (and him potentially getting replaced entirely, since Gen 5 was initially meant to be a fresh new start to the franchise). XY also very clearly was building him up to win the league. Each time it was stuff that happened in the last few episodes that certainly didn't look like they were anywhere near planned ahead. And I am almost 100% certain the same happened in JN with Gou and the sudden change of heart in these last few episodes.

Had to write all this because not only did the decision itself bother me of course (don't get me wrong, I am genuinely looking forward to the new series and MPM had its neat moments so far, but the way JN, Satoshi's series and Gou ended was a wholeass mess imo) but other I've kinda been frustrated about how many people went "hahah told yall so Gou would leave XD GOne" (that pun IS funny tho). Like, no you guys, a broken clock is also right twice a day yada yada. I highly doubt yall saw MPM coming. I high doubt yall expected Satoshi's story to end. I highly doubt you could have been able to tell me what reasoning they'd come up with to have Gou and Satoshi separate. You guys' reasoning had always just been "because they always did it (except for the times they didn't)". Because the thing is, I had written them all up at some point, but all the arguments for Gou staying were based on what the series itself presented and relied 1) on Satoshi staying and 2) the producers of the show not changing their mind last moment to justify the existence of the next series. I'm gonna go ahead and assume the executive producer of JN (Tomiyasu) saw more importance in Gou and Satoshi's relationship and Gou's importance as a character, given that he's probably partially responsible for it being a thing in the first place, than the executive producer of MPM (Yuyama), who has worked on the series as it started and notably would rather stick to the traditions of the show instead of trying out new things. That's why JN's ending feels so out of nowhere and that's probably also why MPM feels so disconnected from the rest of the series, almost more like a spin-off. While Tomiyasu is much more keen on bringing new ideas and concepts into the series. You can see that, as once he started having a bigger influence on the series with Sun and Moon, there's notable changes in setting, writing of characters etc.

Now this was a really long rant fr lol oops. Uhhh... Gou best boi, I am glad the Satogou fandom is still alive and kicking, stay gold, Satogou Day is in two days and I completely forgot about it tho oops

Obi-Wan Kenobi x Padawan!reader

Warnings: angst, death of mentioned character, overthinking (not sure if it's a warning but maybe a trigger??)

Summary: Following the death of his Master, Obi-Wan tries to pick up the pieces of his future plans. His life will never be the same, only because of a boy named Anakin Skywalker.

A/n: Okay so we're getting another episode tomorrow. I'm going to do my best to keep up with posting until the rest of the series is out.... There have been rumors about another season.... I pray to God that there is bc it's easily the best show on disney+ already there's no denying it. I'm a hardcore mando girl, but... come on

A thick solemness hung over the temple when the transmission came in. At the expense of his life, Qui Gon Jinn fought to destroy the Sith Lord named Maul. Obi-Wan Kenobi avenged his master's death by killing him, but it didn't bring back his mentor whom he'd grown so close to.

It gave him a fresher outlook on life, on his own and the people around him. The jedi must have thought of themselves as expendable to a certain point, otherwise the order would not exist. Their very goal in everything they did was to put others above themselves and their colleagues, no matter the relationship or the time spent together. The mission comes first, and the people of the republic are to be protected.

Flying back to Coruscant gave him time to reflect before he had to face the council. He made his Master a promise on his deathbed that was first and foremost important... even though it was going to change the plans that had already been set in front of him for the years to come. It had been a year since Master Yoda told Obi-Wan that he would train the youngling he brought back as his padawan, but now he knew he may not be able to. He was to train Anakin Skywalker, the boy who very well may be the chosen one among the Jedi, said to bring balance to the force and fulfill the ancient prophecy.

Anakin was a bright boy for sure, but training him would present Obi-Wan with a newfound set of problems he couldn't even comprehend right now. He knew that you would be assigned to someone else, and that they wouldn't be able to connect with you the way he could. As was aforementioned, Obi-Wan was not particularly a favorite among all children, especially not the younglings in the temple, you being the only exception. He wondered if he might fail Anakin as a teacher, not knowing enough about him to pass on his knowledge in a way that could be useful later on. He didn't know much about the boy at all, other than the fact he had the highest midichlorian count of anyone recorded in history. He was a good pilot, and a spry little thing.

Once the ship had landed, there was little time for him to decide what he was going to say to the council, before he was taken directly to them and asked a series of questions, most of them a little bit unfeeling, given that he is still grieving the loss of his master, whom he'd known since being a youngling. He was glad when it was over, and everyone left the large room, filing out one at a time.

"Reassignment of your designated padawan, this means," Yoda floated by him on a hoverseat, hoping to catch him as he was leaving.

"I understand, Master, but I have decided. This is what Qui Gon wanted," he paused, and Yoda caught the slight discrepancy in his wavering tone.

"Not what you want, this decision is, hmm?"

Obi-Wan was scared to question his meaning, because after all the thinking he'd done, no, this is not what he wanted. He was being compelled by the force and the dying words of his Master to do what was asked of him, but it made him afraid. He had everything planned out until now, and one day has changed the trajectory of his entire life.

"I sense in you great fear. Ruin your future, it could," Yoda moved his hoverseat to the side upon seeing the younglings passing through the hallway, the Masters that lead them bowed in reverence, not only to Yoda today, but for Obi-Wan.

"I only want to carry out my master's wishes. His life shall not be lost in vain."

Yoda sighed, his words clearly went in one ear and out the other. The only person he ever seemed to truly listen to was Qui Gon, and as of today, he was lost to the cosmic force. He pondered for a moment before he was interrupted by a high pitched, shrill voice.

"Obi!" You saw him as you were walking at the end of the line of the other padawans, and he looked sad. That's not right. He shouldn't be sad when he makes everyone else so happy.

You ran out of line, nearly getting held back by the arms of the Master who walked behind you. You crashed into him, wrapping both arms around his legs, as it was the only place you could reach. You were late to your growth spurt... again. You supposed being small wasn't a horrible thing, because it allowed you to still be picked up and carried places, though usually you had to fake being tired for that.

"Hello, little one," Obi-Wan scooped you up, holding you to his eyeline to where he could see your excited smile. "Did you have a good time training today?"

He only asked because he knew you got to go to the city today, as a field trip of sorts. It was part of the fun for the younglings.

"No, it was awful," you said nonchalantly. he was almost flabbergasted, and Yoda snickered under his breath before floating away, seeing as the young Kenobi was now quite busy.

"What do you mean awful? Didn't you have a nice time in the city?" He waved off the Master who seemed to be waiting for your presence. They knew he would probably bring you to the children's quarters before curfew. He often took you to the library for some late-night reading upon your request before heading off to bed.

"I got pushed to the back of the tram, I was too small to see anything," you expressed, playing with his braid like you often did. He wasn't sure what you would think when he cut it off after the trials. Hopefully you wouldn't be too upset.

"I'm sorry about that, little one... perhaps we can go read some before I have to take you back?" he suggested, watching as your features lit up and you nodded rapidly.

He wasn't sure how to break the news to you. He had completed his trials with flying colors, and he was sure to hold records for some time after. You had been told in the past that Obi-Wan was to be your master. Now he would be taking on Anakin, and you would be assigned to someone who could quote on quote 'control your behaviors' in training. He didn't like that. He knew that whoever your Master was would overlook the best qualities and only focus on the faults. Most jedi in the temple had heard of you by now, and not very good things. It was you that kept him conflicted over the decision the most, still, he went through with it.

He was brought before the council, ready to receive Anakin as his padawan, and all the council members were there.

"It is with great pride that we grant you the rank of a Jedi knight, and give you your first assignment as such," Windu announced, beckoning to the guard on the other side of the room to let the doors be opened.

In came Anakin, freshly presented in his new training robes, adorning a new haircut than what he had before, including his own training braid, to mark his future progress. He had a smile on his face as he stood before the council again.

"Where's the other one?" Windu prodded to the man at the door.

"The other one?" Obi-Wan snapped his head around to meet the council once more, but then turned it back when you trotted in, cowering into yourself for your fear of the council. It wasn't necessarily even fear, but anxiety that they brought upon you. Every move you made under their scrutiny felt wrong.

"After much deliberation, we have found that it would be in the best interest of both padawans to be placed under your watchful eye. This is purely experimental, and if we see you struggling to uphold both of their training, we will revoke one of them to be reassigned immediately."

Obi-Wan didn't even care the stress he was about to take on. He was happy enough that he could keep both his promise to Qui Gon, as well as continue on with his original plans in the order.

"I will do everything in my power to bring the order pride by them."

A good response, one the council was pleased by. They sent the three of you off, ready to find your new living quarters.

Standing at the age of seven and a half, you felt so grown up having moved into your own room, away from the other younglings in the temple.

You were ready to begin your evolution from a youngling to a Jedi, and this was only the beginning. Obi-Wan was a good mentor and was convinced he would train both you and Anakin into great heroes of the republic one day.

Isis unknowingly fell for you when he saw how well you treated his younger sister. He wouldn't confine you to a room because Aisha would strongly object to the idea; instead, he should tie you to him with matrimony. That would put a tight leash on you without actually hurting you, and you'll have no choice but to move into the Imperial Palace to live with him and his family. His face grows warm at the thought of being emperor with you sitting on the seat next to his throne. His little Aisha is so smart!

It would be easy for Isis to gain your hand in marriage. Your family is already loyal to the royal family so if it's a direct order from the emperor himself, then your parents will gladly hand you over to be the crown prince's future spouse. Aisha is excited to have you as her sibling-in-law soon, and Tyrion and Iris would always give you a warm welcome whenever you visit to have lunch or dinner with them.

If you decide to break your engagement with Isis, he'll be heartbroken and he'll readily show you how he feels about your decision. He'll act desperate, he'll beg, he'll guilt-trip you into staying with him. What do you mean you can't handle it? Has he not been nice enough to you? When you think back, the crown prince has been nothing but loving towards you - but that's the problem. His love is suffocating, yet you can't deny the kindness he has shown you all this time.

If you continue to refuse him, he'll find a way to have you crawling back to him, begging him to save your family with your hands clasped together as tears run down your cheeks in rivulets. He'd feign concern and reassure you that he'll take care of things while smiling gleefully on the inside. Do you understand now? That you're helpless without him. You need him in your life because only he can save you from your troubles. Only he can be the fairy tale prince to embrace you with love, to put the crown on your head and thus bind you to him for the rest of your life.

Though he would deny it to his last breath, like Ichigo Kurosaki, Uryū Ishida is a prude. Of course, he'd instead call it "being a gentleman", that it'd be against his strong morals and probably his Quincy pride to treat someone or view them as any less or behave as a depraved man.

Considering who raised him (and who didn't), it's no surprise that Uryū became a highly respectful individual.

He, too, unfortunately and also like Ichigo, has also adopted the cool guy persona (though he'd likely argue this, too). His strong sense of justice, mixed with a bit of ego and that Quincy pride-- perhaps this has been why he's remained a bachelor for so long.

If not by his own choice, of course...

Naturally, the man's been busy. At the very least, his lack of personal time wasn't due to any new enemies or wars. After he graduated from high school, Uryū spent six years focusing on his medical school studies and has been working for his father at Karakura Hospital. He's dedicated, sincere, and has always had good bedside manner.

Undoubtedly, before his mother's passing, he was a "mama's boy". A lot of his mannerisms and his personality was structured around hers, and with Kanae being a former maid, he is contentedly reserved.

Naturally, he'd probably be one of the best partners to have.

And naturally, you realized this, too.

An associate of Karakura Hospital, the raven-haired, bespectacled man has caught your eye on numerous occasions. Rarely did your paths ever directly cross, but when it happened, you did your best not to be so... starstruck?

Truly the perfect man.

He's caught you staring, of course. Maybe it's that you do it too unobviously, but he's extremely perceptive, anyway, so even trying to be discreet might not work out.

Concerned that your head's not in the right mindset, he'll question you for your well-being. Maybe you'll speak fluently in fluster at him, or maybe it shows in the change of colour in your cheeks or by the light in your eyes, the embarrassment of your sudden change in demeanour.

He's confused, but now he's a little flustered, himself.

Why are you looking at him so intensely? You're really not meaning to do it but it's gotten distracting for Uryū. Even after you'd finished your business with him for the day, he's still thinking about that exchange of yours and his.

Now, whenever he arrives at work, he's keeping an eye out for your presence in the hospital. Now, he questions himself on whether he's looking out for you as a good thing or a bad thing.

He realizes it eventually, when you've intentionally crossed paths with him and offered him a treat and a coffee from the café during one of his breaks--

It's a good thing.

To himself, he notes it being unfortunate that your paths don't cross more often, such is the casualty of your chosen careers. As short as they sometimes are, your conversations have finally exited the awkward phase.

Until, of course, one of his colleagues point out that he's finally showing some kind of interest in something other than his work for the first time. The emotionally stunted part of him that's unaffected by his cool guy persona has him silent through his embarrassment.

Sure, he's been dedicated to his career-- he's not embarrassed by that. Contrary to that aforementioned persona, Uryū cares what people think of him, and that hasn't exactly changed from high school obviously.

But you're quick to shut down his colleague and their poor effort at a joke at his expense.

"I think his dedication to his patients and the hospital is wonderful. Your own bedside manner is kind of lacking, though. It makes sense how you didn't make department chief."

It takes a lot out of Uryū to not react. He doesn't disagree with your statement at all (how did you know that, anyway?). Most of all, he's touched that you'd come to his defence so quickly, even though the two of you had but a few meaningful conversations in the past few weeks.

Your casual run-ins during shifts turn into coffee dates up in the café on the fifth floor when you invite him to join you on your breaks. You admit to him what you believe to be a bit of a funny story, that you've seen him running around Karakura, and even jumping across rooftops, a bow in hand.

A part of him is somehow relieved that you're able to see and sense spiritual pressure. Given that Karakura Town remains an Enriched Spirit Zone, it's neither common nor uncommon-- but it provides him with a strange sense of comfort. Like, if anything involving the world of Quincy and Hollows and Soul Reapers ever happened to become involved with you--

Wait. Why am I even thinking this far ahead?

Uryū Ishida would be a huge overthinker. Considering he's never bothered to pursue a relationship over the past decade, or even in high school, it is uncharted waters.

Being around you... makes him nervous.

Hilariously enough, Uryū's father would somehow catch the latest gossip about "the director's son" and semi-consciously tune in whenever his son's name is mentioned.

Romantically, and even sometimes platonically, Uryū wouldn't be the first person to make any sort of move. Whether or not you wanted to be in a romantic relationship or not, you'll have to be straightforward and blunt. It's not that Uryū wouldn't realize what was happening, but there's a necessity to be straight up with him on what you're looking for so his hopes don't get too high.

Out of fear that he might not be good at dating, Uryū would definitely be one to want to take things slow. He knows he likes you, but he simply needs time to come to terms with and work out his feelings for you.

His friends are extremely fond of you, especially Orihime, who is quick to invite the two of you to dinner when it's found out that Uryū is seeing someone.

Of course, it only happened after Ichigo discovered you two having lunch at the hospital. Being the local interpreter, he's typically who is called in to the hospital for English to Japanese translating.

It's not like he was intending on keeping you as some big secret, but there were several factors he had to keep in mind about becoming serious in the relationship.

Eventually, he'd have to tell you about him being a Quincy, and what Hollows are; he'd have to explain how necessary it is that you're paying attention to your surroundings, as you having spiritual energy is a magnet for them.

Maybe it's in his strategic nature, but Uryū quickly becomes greatly in-tune with how you express your emotions.

There's a fifty percent chance that he'll confront you head on about it. The other fifty percent is Uryū suffering in silence and waiting for a ball to drop while he backtracks and retraces his steps, and just mulling over whether he'd been the reason for your sour mood.

But he's more worried for your sake and not his-- he just wants to figure out if it's something he needs to fix or if it's something you just need time to think about. Either way, he'll be quick to offer a helping hand or a shoulder to cry on.

If it's another person at fault, he'll be pissed off right along with you.

Remember that Uryū isn't as straight-laced as he looks. He did beat up an entire gang that showed up in front of Karakura just for blocking the entranceway. Back then, however, he'd gotten away with it. Now, well, it's kind of difficult to beat up someone when you've sworn an oath to do no harm.

The sentiment is there, though. And maybe it cheers you up a little, a small laugh spared to his half-hearted offer of smacking the person around a little.

No, Uryū would sit down with you and have you vent to him about the situation to calm you down, and if it calls for it, he'll help you work out the situation logically.

While he's not against public displays of affection, he has his limits. Not only due to his position as one of the hospital's top doctors, but his nervous, prudish nature would have him flustered.

He loves holding your hands. And, vice versa. Maybe it's just some strange coincidence why his hands are just so perfect for the task.

You could be years into your relationship, but simply reaching for him, any part of him, has his cheeks turning pink.

He seldom mentions it unless you press the matter, but he loves physical contact with you. Uryū didn't receive much of it when he was younger, notably from his father, and his mother passed away when he was young. He was left to Ryūken's more distant methods of raising a child, and it wasn't so often that he could spend time with his grandfather thanks to his views on his fellow Quincy. So, he might just melt into your hands, squeezing them just a little tighter, holding you to him just a little closer.

Pull him aside while he's working, down a quiet hallway, or into an unlocked supply room or an on-call room. He appreciates these spontaneous "abduction attempts" you provide him with, stealing him away when it's obvious he's struggling. He'd be stubborn and refuse to step away on his own, preferring to delve back into his work.

It's too easy to tell when he's having a harder day than usual-- a case's situation gone sour; the loss of a patient. Most days, it's just your presence being enough to soothe his aching heart and mind. He'll never say no to receiving a massage from you, having fallen in love with your hands and with them being on him.

Unless you're worse off than him, you'd be more likely to make any kind of risque moves in the relationship. Teasing Uryū would be neutrally received, enjoying the attention from you but being as equally as embarrassed (depending on the form of teasing, of course).

If he has time in his busy schedule, he has another persona as a househusband. Your own personal tailor, chef, and doter-- Uryū loves being able to take care of you. The both of you have done your best to rearrange your schedules to at least be aligned to have one day off a week that you both can be home together for a bit of normalcy.

You love your work, as does he, but sometimes the both of you find yourselves depressed when that single aimed day is untenable due to the nature of your positions.

You often express your pride to Uryū for doing so well and being such an incredible doctor and a loving partner. And the smile he gives you in return for your kind words is enough to wash away any sadness or doubts.
