summary: a classic. one of the first postcanon getting-together fics I’ve ever read. although not without its flaws, this is sweet, reliable, romantic, and has lovely writing. it remains a staple in fic recs for good reason work issues: lwj’s dialogue is very awkward, edging towards caveman speak in some of the more egregious lines author issues: genderbends, fuck or die

summary: this is one of the most stunning and beautifully written fics I’ve ever read. in one timeline, wwx is grappling with being in mxy’s body, slowly healing and coming to terms with his traumas while traveling solo after leaving CR. in another timeline set some time in the future, a wwx reunited with lwj races to save his life after an assassination attempt both parts of the story interweave with each other; at times aching, at times terrifying, at times introspective. with a wonderful ending after an intensely compelling showdown. the second person pov was so engaging and unusual. cql for most things except wwx being in mxy’s body. I dislike when the post-temple travels are longer than a year, but the characterizations are so good, and the writing is so gorgeous, and the time for healing is needed so clearly that I don't mind see author notes for warnings. wwx's new body is written as if it's a discrete entity from him and they are both talked about as if they have their own desires and goals. there are some allusions to wwx’s suicidal ideation early into his travels, as well as a semi-graphic description of torturing a character to death work issues: none author issues: xicheng, 3zun, dubcon, and sex pollen

summary: postcanon wwx and lwj seek shelter from a storm at an inn they quickly realize offers more services than they expected. honestly, the setting really just made their getting-together very…sweet? all the original characters were so lovely and the atmosphere was very friendly. this fic makes me a smile a lot. work issues: none author issues: has written fuck or die

summary: a four-part get-together series starting with a sex scene just after the fade to black in ep43. it fits beautifully into canon because they just. don’t talk about it the next morning and do everything exactly as they did in the show. the characterizations were excellent in this one, and I loved how tender and funny it was. cql only, and easily one of the smoothest transitions from canon to fanon I’ve ever read. maybe lwj calling wwx an idiot is ooc but I thought it was very funny in context and it made sense for their dynamic here the grammar was a bit shaky, but the writing was otherwise good enough that I could ignore it work issues: none author issues: none

summary: post-guanyin temple, wwx and lwj go back to gusu and yearn. it’s a bit sad because it does follow cql canon and wwx leaves anyway, but I like the writing and atmosphere, and I find the ending satisfying in the way the promise at the end of cql was work issues: their first kiss is when lwj believes wwx to be drunk, but he stops them and feels awful when wwx wants to escalate things. wwx isn’t actually drunk, but it was a bit of a weird choice imo author issues: has written genderbends

In the Cold of Spring by dollydoodledoo

summary: absolutely lovely character introspection/getting-together fic that grapples with wwx’s self-worth issues while remaining very positive and warm. I love the style and atmosphere, and the dialogue is realistic and engaging. lwj in particular was given lines where he actually says things and doesn’t just repeat the same three or four sentiments over and over again. work issues: none author issues: none. this is a mutual’s fic, go read it!

summary: postcanon getting together casefic! the lwj and wwx in this just Know each other so well and love each other so much, so even though they take things slowly you can really feel the romance and tenderness. lovely, humorous, and satisfying work with a nonbinary oc. firmly cql characterizations I find the jc and wwx relationship here to be very obnoxious, in the sense that wwx feels the need to tell lwj not to be so protective of him and jc being rude and aggressive towards him is just…brotherly bonding. sigh. *Wearing Down Every Bone by CSHfic, VSfic

summary: getting-together casefic with a time loop twist. there was a lot of drama and emotion in this one, the worldbuilding and plot were well-crafted, the characterizations were on point, and the conclusion was deeply satisfying in a way most fics on here aren’t (having its own plot helps). the ending made me want to cheer and I thought the wwx was just wonderful work issues: none author issues: none

summary: that brief interlude of wwx realizing lwj won’t travel with him in ep50, and what comes after. cql characterizations, and I really loved how thoroughly the author understood them and the show’s finale. the imagery and style were also lovely. a little wistful, but sweet and hopeful as well. work issues: none author issues: none

summary: I don’t usually like fics with physical curses that lead to get-togethers bc I always feel weird about like, freedom of choice but this one is really good! pretty straightforward - postcanon wwx and lwj are traveling together, lwj gets hit with a touch-starved curse, and things go from there. it’s really sweet and tender and yeah these are definitely some good sex scenes imo work issues: none author issues: genderbends, sex pollen, allusions to cnc

summary: a short collection of wwx’s fantasies about lwj in cronological order from CR schooldays to the jingshi snow days. not all of them are sexual. I think it tracks his state of mind really well at different points of the story and the finale was just really tender and sweet. I feel like we get a lot of young lwj Yearning but not wwx so much. cql canon

summary: postcanon, wwx travels and works as lwj’s legs on the ground to enact change for the world and help people in need. fun and interesting character and political work exploring wwx’s recovering reputation, concept of home, teaching, and relationships with others sect disciples. the romance was in the background, quiet but nice. technically a getting-together work, but less focused romance than other fics on here jc was kind of annoying but not terrible. the juniors shipping wx were honestly a little funny. a few of the names sounded off because the author sometimes didn’t use honorifics for the disciples work issues: none author issues: A/B/O

summary: my very first fanfic 🥺 still unfinished, but this beautiful and contemplative work follows wwx on his travels postcanon as he comes to terms with what happened, works with his hands, offers aid to any who need it, experiences the kindness of strangers, and begins to think about his future. his travels are so lovely to witness, and his coming back into himself is so…tender? he does some healing. idk what else to say. he needs this. this is one of the few fics that’s pure cql and I love it so, so much. I don’t even need it to end, tbh, I know he’ll get back to lwj eventually. work issues: none author issues: none

*fish & wild geese* by impossibletruths

summary: loosely based on the film little forest, this fic follows modern AU lwj through four seasons after he returns for a visit to his mother’s home in the countryside. he finds a grounding and peaceful escape from his busy and empty life as a law student and he reunites with his old friend wwx, who had moved back to help on his grandmother’s farm. lwj’s connection to his mother is so beautifully explored, and I also loved how lqr and mama lan’s relationship was portrayed wwx’s unique family unit of himself, bssr, sl, and xxc is also warm and wonderful, and I enjoyed the background songxiao. the writing is gentle and evocative, and includes poetry for each season. a worthwhile fic full of food, warmth, family, grief, home, romance, and closure. technically either canon but I feel cql for it work issues: none, it’s such a comfort to me author issues: none

*总有一天; a place to hide (can’t find one near)* by yiqie

summary: ah, this fic. I LOVE this fic. modern AU - wwx’s nearly successful suicide attempt, and what comes after. emotionally rich, well-crafted in language and character, accurate to culture, thematically resonant, and faithful to canon characterizations, this has been one of my favorite fics for a long time. I like how all the characters are written, especially lxc, jc and jyl. I love what a good person jxz is here, too, although he’s not a major character. I appreciate the emphasis on continuous and enthusiastic consent wrt the sex scenes. the author is chinese so the details and atmosphere feel very grounded and realistic. strictly cql characterizations on the flipside, it does have quality issues. it sometimes gets caught up in its own flowery language and the lines end up nonsensical. some of the sex scenes are a little goofy since lwj is so formal, and there’s a slightly annoying emphasis on wwx being panicked about being a bad partner and needing reassurance from a saintly lwj, which he immediately believes with no other hangups despite his terrible sense of self-worth and not thinking he ‘deserves’ anything good. also, there are a few characterization choices that made me go “no!” for example, wwx is DEFINITELY a crier and this fic claims he isn’t. but yeah I love it anyway lmao the suicide attempt is described in detail at the beginning of the work, so check the notes if you want to skip it. suicidal ideation and chronic depression comes up later in the story. there’s canon-typical emotional and physical child abuse in flashbacks to wwx’s childhood. there are also flashbacks to lwj’s mother’s death in the hospital. implied to have been from cancer work issues: not a huge issue, but at one point lwj brings wwx flowers and someone asks lwj if they’re for his girlfriend and he says yes which like??? nothing close to that happens again but why was that a thing author issues: has implied jl/lsz in one of their fics (To the Yiling Laozu, the Great and Powerful)

*feast and famine by luckymarrow

summary: a rape recovery/aftermath work. I took a long time deciding to add it in, but it’s really good, I think it could be cathartic for people, and on a second read it’s strangely comforting. modern AU, NYC. leaning more towards novel characterizations. wx are married. wwx is roofied and violently sexually assaulted at a party, and then deals with the aftermath with the support of his friends and family. check author notes for specific warnings, but obviously it’s rough. this is probably the least fanficcy of any work on my list. it is unflinching in its depictions of survival after horrific violence in ways other fics tend to mine for angst or romance points, or gloss over for hurt/comfort. but this depicts not only the immediate before and after of the assault itself, but the continued pain and humiliation of medical examination, homophobia faced by victims of rape even from supposed supporters, caregiver fatigue, homophobia from the assailants, and effects of lifelong trauma. there are also brief references to sinophobia. imo it also has good politics in validating a survivor not pressing charges, which I think is really refreshing. unlike others I’ve read, it takes into account social/cultural forces at work, and things like class and privilege that can really matter in the context of SA despite the premise and the very dark scenes, there were many legitimately joyful parts of the work, and as wwx starts healing in more significant ways, the breakthroughs he makes in his journey are so touching to read about. this is a painful story, but it makes so many beautiful points about how life is worth living after a violent trauma, and how things can still be good afterwards even if they’re different. this was a huge theme in the show and I enjoyed seeing it resonate here as well. it’s a slow journey, and one not finished by the end of the work, but it does have a gentle and hopeful conclusion I don’t really like how this author writes them pre-assault, but the way wwx and his relationship with lwj is explored the rest of the work is amazing, and the way they renegotiate their relationship in the aftermath is genuinely very interesting and even romantic to read even if it’s painful why they have to do so. the side characters also have a lot of richness to them - I love jyl in particular, she gets a ton of screentime and pov scenes, and her chronic illness matters without being her only character trait. lwj is pretty good; his backstory with his mom is one of the scariest I’ve ever seen and I think it’s really compelling. jc is written really well! wwx and jc have their adolescent playfight banter that goes a little far sometimes, but wwx gives just as good as he gets and jyl and lwj always back him up when jc goes too far, so it didn’t feel unbalanced or unfair to wwx while letting jc off the hook like other fics do. jc grows as a person during this work, becoming more selfless and closer to his siblings. and I really liked how jxz was handled at the end finally, this fic has, bar none, the best jfm I’ve ever read. he clearly loves wwx but he doesn’t treat him very well - he’s foolish, ignorant, self-centered, weak-willed, delusional. absolutely perfect. but they all love wwx so much and they work together to support him in the aftermath in very gratifying ways reclaimed q slur is used a few times, including by a straight character? she was referring to a gay character and not using it as a slur, but it was a little odd anyway work issues: references jgy and nmj potentially hooking up, mentions of xy and ‘his boyfriends’ (sl and xxc), and references to cnc (which is discussed, but not shown in the fic itself). pretty mild on the whole and it’s only talked about to I moved it to this section author issues: cnc smut and A/B/O

*places under the sky by narie

summary: during his travels after leaving gusu, wwx stumbles upon a village where he meets his paternal grandmother and learns more about his lost parents. this fic is raw and tragic, but it was in-character and so beautifully written and offered a realistic, if bittersweet measure of healing and closure for wwx. the way the romance was handled was lovely, even though lwj wasn’t present. cql canon work issues: none author issues: none

the work of spring by wrrms

summary: modern AU wwx tries to grapple with his grief over jyl’s death, jc’s estrangement, and lwj’s absence by starting a garden. the wx in this was long-distance but their relationship was super sweet, as was the nhs and wwx friendship. it did make me cry a bit but it was also really cathartic and lovely. lwj was genuinely hilarious and I loved his personality and dialogue in this one. either canon warnings for depression and heavy grief work issues: none author issues: none

how the body can be both greenhouse and graveyard by molerein

summary: postcanon, wwx drags lxc and himself into a better place through his very determined visits to the hanshi. sort of a character introspection/relationship study. I like their dynamic, and the background wx was very comforting as well. the style was lovely. either canon works, tho tags say novel verse check notes for references to depression and suicidal ideation work issues: none. the every day thing is mentioned, which continues to piss me, off but it’s not like an actual issue author issues: none

*come for a while by Joana789

summary: a meandering, plotless little introspection from wwx about being alive again, and how he handles the joys and sorrows and changes from his previous life. very gentle and satisfying. I feel cql for it work issues: none author issues: none

*the soft animal by cafecliche

summary: postcanon wwx, learning to live in his new body and be kind to himself as he adjusts. this one gave me all sorts of disability feelings. novel canon work issues: none author issues: none

*a kind of emptiness by ScarlettStorm

summary: wwx works towards gaining weight postcanon after his lifetime of food insecurity, with the support of lwj and the lans. it’s nice to see him take one step after another as he relearns how to have a healthy relationship with food, and progressively feels better and stronger as he puts on weight. a really lovely, affirming fic with a solid and satisfactory ending. either canon, but characterizations lean towards cql. unfortunately the author's attempts at eroticism are about as unsexy and painfully generic as they come warnings for disordered eating and references to starvation work issues: none author issues: this author has written some really weird things feminizing wwx

*somewhere they live, somewhere they multiply by perilously

summary: one of the few horror fics I’ve enjoyed. postcanon wwx struggles with his past and some parts of his life in CR, and the gift of a large, creepy mirror exacerbates issues. the quasi-argument between himself and lwj is quite raw and feels well grounded in their characterizations, and the atmosphere is extremely well-crafted work issues: none author issues: none

*grow by cafecliche

summary: wwx is hit by a curse during a night hunt with the kids that reverts him to the physical, mental, and emotional state of his six-year old self. the juniors take care of him while trying to find ways to undo the curse, which is really cute because they just adore him and they want to make sure he has a nice day. a character study for both wwx and lsz, with supporting roles from jl, ljy, and oyzz, and later on, lwj and lxc. the writing was wonderful, the relationships well-crafted and very sweet, the commentary on wwx as a child was straightforward but rewarding, and the characterizations as a whole were just excellent. I really loved seeing little wwx getting all the care and affection and protection and validation he so desperately needed back then, so it’s a bit of a comfort work as well. novel-verse, but imo it doesn’t matter expect canon-typical child neglect and everything else that comes from being a homeless 6 year old. lwj does interact with de-aged wwx but I promise it’s not weird I have age regression blacklisted because I don’t trust anyone, so many thanks to my mutual who specifically recommended it :) work issues: none author issues: none

I’ve followed them on twitter for years and read all of their fics, and I can confirm they’re a safe author to read.

*Close Your Soft Eyes* by timetoboldlygo

summary: even after they’re married and settled in the jingshi, wwx occasionally gets restless at night and leaves to wander around CR. lwj gets jumpy if he wakes up alone, so wwx starts leaving him little gifts to reassure him. no other plot, just a meandering and really lovely fic about growing older together and becoming closer and communicating and letting old hurts heal. they’re so respectful and caring of each other in this 🥺 I love it so much work issues: none author issues: none

*Where the Lonely Ones Go by CSHfic, VSfic

summary: casefic where a married wwx and lwj work on solving a mystery surrounding a seemingly abandoned, universally distrusted, and definitely cursed toddler. the wx in this is very sweet, the baby girl is adorable, and while parts of this story are sad, it’s a lovely work and I really enjoyed seeing them as parents. cql canon work issues: none author issues: none

*梅雨 | rain month by astronicht

summary: a very gentle, no-drama little cursefic. wwx and lwj are in love. the young kids get a lesson on water divination. it’s raining, and wx are cozy in bed together. the atmosphere in this was so rich with love and comfort and safety and tenderness I could have cried work issues: none author issues: genderbends

in all my dreams i drown by idrilka

summary: pretty classic h/c smut. postcanon wwx struggling with nightmares and guilt and all the things that followed him into this life, and lwj comforting him through it. it was really sweet. made me smile. it’s also really nice to find sex scenes that don’t incorporate any cnc at all. cql canon work issues: none author issues: sex pollen, genderbends, jl/lsz

summary: essentially hurt-comfort boiled down to its most basic essentials, in which wwx is non-fatally injured on a night hunt but must endure an incredible amount of pain, and lwj is there to comfort him. this is so self-indulgent, but since I really love hurt/comfort, I enjoyed it a lot. some of the lines of dialogue really hit home for me so I consider it a good work for characterization work issues: none author issues: has written fuck or die and genderbends

I read their other fic and it’s fine. nothing remarkable imo, though it’s pretty popular

summary: not much plot, just some well characterized, atmospheric, and romantic married smut. the opening scenes don’t feel like a setup to porn, it just reads like a natural day in the life. full of imagery and emotion. more cql than anything else. really lovely. these two aren’t technically in the same series, but they’re basically two sides of the same coin - both postcanon married smut, one wwx pov, and one lwj pov. work issues: none author issues: none

ordinary bodies by messier45

summary: a moody and introspective fic where postcanon wwx dwells upon his dissatisfaction and grief involving his new body, and the things he never got to do with his old one. not very warm and fuzzy, but cathartic and very raw and I really liked the way it handled wwx’s body issues. the romance in this was not the main focus, but it was excellent - even though the grief and discontent there was a lot of love and gratitude, which feels more realistic and honest than ‘wwx is married and everything is happy forever!’ trans author, which tracks work issues: none author issues: none

friendly fields, open roads by queensmooting

summary: postcanon wwx and lwj come upon a mysterious, ghostly toddler, and must solve the mystery of her life and death. this is one of the only fics I’ve read that really take the massacre of the wens seriously, and is therefore quite upsetting and difficult to read. I definitely cried reading this and I don’t know if I could read it again, but it was very good this fic deals with child death, cannibalism, and mass murder/genocide work issues: none author issues: A/B/O

summary: wwx realizes that lwj never got a chance to develop any real preferences for teas, books, foods, etc. and embarks on a quest to discover what he actually likes. the characterizations were really good for this one. wwx sneakily introducing lwj to all sorts of things he’d never seen before and then collecting data about it was really sweet either version of canon works - plenty of references to lwj’s golden eyes, which I always find jarring and unappealing, but also to things that happened in cql. they do talk about what lwj likes in bed and it’s somewhat based on the novel but there’s no reference to cnc or rape fantasy. overall I’d say more novel leaning though work issues: they dropped the pronoun “I” from lwj’s dialogue in one of the scenes, but it’s not as bad caveman speak as I’ve seen in other fics author issues: A/B/O

the low sky, raining over by chibilwj (thelogicoftaste)

summary: an unique postcanon kid fic. lwj and wwx become close with a curious, stubborn new member of the lan sect, a foundling toddler. wwx’s worries about his suitability due to his reputation make sense, and lwj’s interactions with all the young kids, especially the new baby, are really neat. in-character, engaging, and nuanced. light on plot, but the mystery is compelling the wx is somewhat annoying, but not the worst. individually, wwx and lwj are really good. jc has a new wife and baby. which is weird, but he's not sanitized or glorified. the toddler had to do a minor penance as punishment which was definitely strange to read about but didn’t come off as cruel. and the author dropped in a ton of ocs that no reader would know about, so the passages are at times a bit confusing work issues: sex scenes vibes were a bit weird author issues: none

summary: lwj and wwx investigate a cursed pot, which sends wwx into another reality in which he holds a powerful political position, retained his golden core, and is still in the lives many of his loved ones, some of whom don’t even exist in his old life. his subsequent dissatisfaction pushes him to reflect on his original life and where his true happiness lay.

I really like stories where canon wwx interacts with alternate versions of his story, and this is a nice examination of a world that wouldn’t be out of place in a fix-it fic, but with a balanced and thoughtful portrayal of what that would still be lost in that world as a result. there were joys and sorrows in both lifetimes, which imo follows the themes of canon well. cql verse, except wwx is in mxy’s body. lwj isn’t actually there for most of this fic, but their relationship is ever-present work issues: bit of ableism treated poorly? a wheelchair user’s chair is grabbed without his permission in the style of wwx’s boundary-pushing in CR. other than that..wwx is nicer to jc than he would be in canon imo but this is years after the temple showdown and they appear to have reconciled author issue: nhs/nzh, sl/xxc/xy (get him OUTTA THERE!), jl/lsz

summary: a short and quiet little anniversary fic. the celebration of the day wwx has been married to lwj longer than he’s been dead. ft. peace in aging, tender morning sex, references to yunmeng bros reconciliation, the adoration of young children, and the juniors all grown up work issues: wwx playacts and calls himself a wife, and there's a bit of a weird vibe to the sex scene but nothing major author issues: allusions to cnc, sex pollen, genderbends

look roadtrip fic is fine but KID FIC KID FIC KID FIC. "accidental baby acquisition" is one of my favorite fucking tropes EVER. i want every emotionally constipated blorbo to have an adorable baby shoved into their arms. please. give me kid fic always.

i'm not particularly interested in either, but reincarnation can be fun if written well! im not opposed to character death in a one-shot, but it can be draining if part of a larger story.

>arranged marriage or accidental marriage.

god. i love arranged marriage. especially if the arranged marriage actually ends up working out well. or if it's a fucked up one that they get rescued from.

>high school romance or middle-aged romance.

high school romance can be very cute, but i much prefer reading about established working adults, or retirees <3

>time travel or isolated together.

i've actually got a time travel fic in my drafts, but i really only like time travel if the repercussions of it are fixed/mundane. i don't want time travel to actually end up permanently changing the world or story. so time travel that ends in romance in the current age is great, time travel that ends up being undone is great, but i wouldn't want time travel used as a way to fix an important canonical plot point.

anyway that said, i love characters getting locked in rooms or snowed in or or or <3

>neighbors or roommates.

roommates is good if something forces them together (cough cough, Temporary Lodgings) but i usually prefer characters to have some degree of separation to eachother. i don't find it that interesting when characters suddenly realize they're dating someone; i want a big romantic confession!!!

>sci-fi au or magic au.

i'm just not a sci-fi fan. easy-peasy. although i don't mind softer sci-fi, like Chobits

>body swap or genderbend.

genderbends are super great and fun to draw, but i don't really like reading them all that much. body swaps on the other hand.... endless potential for both comedy and smut.

>angst or crack.

crack doesn't do it for me. i don't like angst with an unhappy ending all that much, though.

>apocalyptic or mundane.

mundane, pls ): unless the apocalypse is a nice one like in Giant Spider and Me. i'd be cool with my blorbos in an apocalypse like that :D

also no one cares but im gonna dump my headcanons about them. just for me so i stop spamming twitter

normally i dont like rule 63 versions of characters where their gender is a huge part of their character and ishimondo have the whole “brotherhood” thing so initially i wasn’t into doing that. but then i thought more about i think their traits/values would actually be really cool on female characters

fem!mondo can’t make female friends because her excessive violence scares them all off, so the equally hot-headed fem ishimaru is her first female friend while fem mondo is ishimaru’s first friend overall. fem mondo mostly spends all her time around her dead brother’s male gang members

also as a rule 63 connoisseur i wanted to make my own genderbends because i wasnt into other versions that were more feminine than i imagined them... because aside from having a skirt as a uniform i feel like fem ishimaru thinks stuff like makeup is a waste of time while mondo does wear some but she’s SUPER bad at applying it. her nail polish is chipped and her eyeliner is all smudged and half the time she’s too lazy to wash it off before bed

the female friend thing is also why poor mondo can’t keep a girlfriend for longer than a week either. ishimaru is the only one who can really handle her since she’s just as stubborn and hot-headed. they start off hating each other but one day mondo gets her ribs broken because she had no idea that such a small and uptight girl who does nothing but study is weirdly strong physically. ishimaru meets mondo at the hospital and is apologizing profusely but mondo is just impressed and their friendship blossoms... then they both become mutually obsessed with one another and try to become less fucked up so the other one won’t leave them and they live happily ever after. or not once despair stuff happens

okay minirant about genderbending time

1. It is actually okay to give a character boobs. Okay?? People have boobs! Decouple boobs from fanservice!! This is not me being a Weird Adult this is me telling you as a slender person that there are photographs of me as a skinny twelve year old with Notable Boobs!! Slender people can have big boobs! Fat people can have small boobs!! I really suffered a lot from having big boobs at such a young age so you’d better fucking listen!!

2. If a character has a known female relative it’s also perfectly reasonable to give that character something similar to the relative’s body type. This is actually specifically about the fact the genderbending conversation I’m currently seeing is about Yugi. We know what Yugi’s mom looks like. Yugi is somewhat GNC in the first place so it’s fine to just change the body type to match Yugi’s mother. Does everyone take after their parent’s body type? No, but it’s still not unreasonable to take hints from someone’s family members.

3. Nobody ever seems to take height into consideration. I actually could see an afab!Yugi as taller than canon!Yugi and I could also see afab!Seto as shorter than canon specifically because the time period Seto would be getting underfed is the time period a girl is more likely to have a growth spurt (the orphanage times specifically)

4. Specific note on Yugi again: Yugi wears a boy’s school uniform. In that case it is reasonable that afab!Yugi would wear different clothes. I don’t know how else to tell y’all this but people tend to wear the uniforms they’re supposed to, Utena is an outlier not a rule. I tend to think a 63′d Yugi would wear her girl’s uniform to school and some completely different outfit that suited her gothpunk aesthetic better outside of school, rather than wearing the school uniform all the time because boy!Yugi likes the way the boy’s uniform meshes with his desired look. Would she wear a boy’s uniform outside of school? That’s up to you.

Anyway now that’s off my chest I have webcomic pages to work on.

That painting of Ardyn's 'Sister' makes me wish she did (does) exist. Or, well- We've had female Nox, Nyx, and technically Regis. Maybe it's Ardyn's turn? All those tacky layers would be very good at hiding any curves. Which, when it finally got out that Regis's brother is actually his /sister/, the resulting spit-takes and shrieks would be priceless. The rage that follow, that Mors had seemingly butchered and traumatized his /baby sister/... Not sure I like how dark it might get, but...

@talisward no. NO. DON’T USE MY LOVE OF GENDERBENDING AGAINST ME LIKE THIS HOW DARE. I DON’T WANT TO HAVE TO MAKE AN ENTIRELY NEW AU FOR FEM!ARDYN WHICH MEANS I’D HAVE TO RETCON SOME OTHER AU DON’T DO THIS TO ME-

hgfdfghgfds. I am genuinely torn on this. Genuinely torn because this would be SUCH a cool thing. But I already have too many AUs and Nox spin-offs I don’t want to make another, but I don’t want to retcon a spin-off with a ton of stuff on it already....

So. I could either submit to fate and make yet another spin-off with a fem!Ardyn, where they’re human and someone finds out by accident (Cid already knew from the scar reveal) and all the spittakes happen and from there spiral off into my usual insanity of yet another AU, of which you can all imagine the hilarious results I’m sure. Or.

Fem!Ardyn in the Nox!Taur verse.

Fem!Ardyn who has visible scars on her scales and revealed herself only to Cid, who kept her secret out of respect, who has Nox call her Uncle out of paranoia because- well. She came from an old fashioned time and was in the grip of Besithia for a while, being known as the lady she is is not exactly going to register as Safe. Honestly, considering my HCs on Ardyn’s and Somnus’s dad, she MIGHT have even been disguised throughout her childhood until Somnus’s birth so that the father wouldn’t be “shamed” by having only a “woman heir”. So in a human verse, Ardyn is very skilled at keeping the secret.

But Taur biology being the strange new world for them that it is, they forget one thing. Ardyn is no longer Accursed, so reproductive functions are now working again (the scourge basically turned that off, Ardyn in the Void would often joke that the One Good Thing about being the Immortal Accursed was no periods, but her tone would be bitter because she’d always wanted children, always wanted to raise her daughters or sons alongside her heart-sister Aera) and that means TAUR BIOLOGY.

HEATS.

That lovely (cursed) remnant from an earlier era, a nasty tack on to the “having a lower half physically reminiscent of animals”. Heats. No bleeding, but increased scent and enhanced sense of touch and rampaging instincts and other symptoms that for an utterly clueless dragon lady and her nephew are NOT FUN. Now, those two years they were undiscovered, Ardyn and Nox just hid in the wilderness until it passed, away from civilization and people who might smell her secret (also they don’t know how anyone would react, because what if people start coming AFTER HER for being in Heat????). But in the Citadel and with their terrible sense of time....

Regis is Officially Concerned when Ardyn abruptly locks himself in his room without warning, refusing to let the servants near, hiding all the way in the back bedroom and refusing to leave or let anyone but Nox enter. Nox is wary and bristly and won’t explain, and even Titus can’t get by into the room without risking being skewered by Nox’s armiger. Concern grows like crazy, enough that Regis breaks his personal rule on not invading his half-sibling’s privacy without permission and using the secret tunnels to break in, bringing Aulea with him as an appeasement since they get along better.

The first thing that hits Regis when he enters is the scent of an unmedicated Heat (because there are plenty of medicines to make a heat milder, if not any to safely get rid of them entirely), slapping him right in the face because in this Taur verse they get mildly enhanced senses to go with Taur bodies thank you.

The second thing to hit him in the face is Nox, wild-eyed and snarling (just a punch though, which Regis knows is mild compared to what his eldest COULD do)

VERY alarmed now and still somehow not putting the pieces together, Regis tries to fend off Nox while Aulea ninja’s her way by into Ardyn’s bedroom and from there to the cracked open door to the bath where she can hear the bath splashing and soft whimpering, hoping to check on the man-

Oh.

OH-AH.

Not a man then.

Ardyn, hiding in the swimming pool sized bathtub, bereft of her layers and shivering as she tries to use hot water and steam to mitigate her symptoms, hisses in alarm at the sight and sound of Aulea, who at least had the decency to announce herself before entering, and looks ready to breathe fire until Aulea drops onto her belly and on pure intuition born of everything she’s already learned about Ardyn goes, “Oh Ardyn, you have no idea what’s happening to you. Do you?”

And Ardyn freezes, visibly debates before deflating back into the water and whining, “No. No I don’t.”

And then not only would Regis have to deal with the RAGE of thinking Mors tortured his half-SISTER, his LITTLE half-sister, he would also have to deal with watching AULEA rage over all the implications of Ardyn not even knowing what a heat is and how to deal (plus the whole, why didn’t you look it up earlier in life question is met with Ardyn’s rare foot-in-mouth moment of “This only started around the time Nox turned 13, I honestly didn’t think I had the ability to have ... such things anymore. Why bother looking it up?” and so now AULEA is rampaging around the nearest training room as well as Regis and Titus)

ALSO. On a romance/fluffy/funny note- If I retconned Ardyn in Nox!Taur to fem, I could do an ArdynxCor pairing. Picture all the lion/cat jokes Ardyn gets to make. All the heart attacks Clarus gets to suffer at the Adrenaline Junkie Lion dating/mating to the Troll Dragon. All the Suffering of Titus as he deals with the courtship. All the Looks Cor gives Regis when his king and friend GLEEFULLY tells him that as mate of the king’s sister, Cor is now a PRINCE. HE HAS A ROYAL TITLE. HAH.

Also also if I did this and Ardyn was a girl and Cor was her S/O then whenever he came back from missions, he would race for the Citadel interior from the parking spot, hoping to avoid-

A whoop and a long screech that might be his name is mangled by wind and prolonged use and Cor gets knocked right off his paws by 100+ pounds of gleeful, dive-bombing dragon.

Cor, breathless even as he uses his training to flip with the impact and land straddling Ardyn: “Must you do that every time I come back?”

Ardyn, on her back and grinning like a loon, hat knocked a few feet away: “But I MISSED you, My Lionheart!”

Cor, exasperated and touched all at once as he sidesteps off her and lets her roll back onto her paws and collect her hat: “It’s only been three days this time.”

Ardyn: “I know! It’s been TERRIBLE. Aulea tried to shove me into a DRESS. Can you imagine, assaulted and attacked and my brave Lionheart wasn't there to protect me!”

Cor: “Like I could save you from Aulea anyway?”

Ardyn: “...Point, actually.”

What do we think? Yay for retconning Ardyn as a fem in the Taur verse or nay?

Hopefully yay because I think I just talked myself into this.

Hello lovely creator, thanks for creating for me in the Worldbuilding Exchange! I’m very excited and grateful for whatever you create for me <3

This letter will restate my DNWs, list my likes, give you a brief rundown of my canon preferences, and then dive into specific prompts for each of my requests.

I’ll warn you upfront that I tend to ramble, so feel free to skip prompts that don’t interest you and/or use ctrl+F to search for whatever it is you want to write for.

My requests are divided by fandom, and in the case of the Silm + Middle-earth Legendarium, by topic too, so hopefully that will be helpful for you! Also, my TAZ request is waaay down at the bottom, so if that’s what you’re here for, just go to the bottom of the page.

Preferences re: Canon:

LaCE compliance is always completely optional (except if you’re choosing a prompt that is specifically about LaCE, lol). If you do want to include it, that’s great, but if you just want the characters to fuck without having that be an issue, go for it. I love explorations of LaCE that take into account the exceptions, boundaries, definitions, etc; I also love takes that emphasize that they are Laws and Customs, not biological imperatives.

I’m not picky about my Amrod deaths. He can die at either Losgar or Sirion (or, hell, some other time/place if you make it interesting enough!), whatever works best for the story. I do like Lightly Toasted Amrod, aka he almost burns to death at Losgar but survives/gets rescued at the last minute.

Gil-galad theories are all very fun. Please don’t make him the son of Fingon and a wife; if he’s Fingon’s son, I want Maedhros to be involved at least a little bit (adoption or trans mpreg are both fine in this scenario). Otherwise, I don’t have a particular preference, though if it’s not really relevant I usually default to the son of Orodreth (who is in turn the son of Angrod). Also, I’ve requested “Origins of Gil-galad”; there’s more information on him in that section.

Honestly, when it comes to theories and headcanons, my rule of thumb is “convince me”! I’m down for whatever, for the most part, as long as you can justify it :)

I’m interested in dragons & dwarves, especially in relation to the first time dwarves were driven from Erebor and into the North and the War of the Dwarves and Dragons. What kinds of dragons set their sights on the mountain? How old was Smaug when all that was happening; did he learn anything from the failures of his kin? Who were the dragon-hunting dwarves who fought in that war? Suggested Character(s): Smaug, Original Dwarf Character

Dwarven Craft and Magic: Enchanted weapons, enchanted armor, runes and spells...all so interesting! Borrowing from the movies a bit, did Kíli’s runestone from Dís have any magic power? What’s the deal with the Arkenstone’s thrall? How do elf and dwarf magics intersect when it comes to objects like Bilbo’s mithril coat? Suggested Character(s): Dís, Frerin, Thorin, Original Dwarf Character (perhaps a craftsdwarf?)

Dwarves and Gender: We need more dwarf women! And I’d love any takes on nonbinary dwarves and/or dwarf-specific genders. Were there female dwarves in the Company that Bilbo mistook for male dwarves? Are dwarven women really only a third of the population? If dwarf men and women are very similar in appearance, how do they differentiate between them, or do they differentiate at all? If you included something about dwarvish braiding styles indicating gender, class, marital status, I would be delighted. Suggested Character(s): Dís, Frerin, Thorin, Original Dwarf Character; in this case I’d prefer a focus on canon characters, but OCs interacting with them would be marvelous, especially people like Dís’ spouse.

The Black Arrow: Bard’s little pep talk to his arrow has always intrigued me. I’d love to see your take on the origins of the Black Arrow. Does it really come from Erebor, and if so, who made it? How did Bard and his forefathers come to acquire it? (I like the movie version that ties it into Girion’s attempt to kill Smaug, so feel free to incorporate that if you feel like it.) Is the arrow enchanted? (Perhaps that could be tied to the Dwarven Craft and Magic tag!) Suggested Character(s): Bard, Original Character from Dale, Original Dwarf Character

The Stone Giants & Were-worms: I don’t have many thoughts on these guys except “neat! tell me more!” I’m fascinated by the creatures Tolkien only gives us a passing mention of; if you feel like it, maybe you could combine these tags with some of the creatures in the LOTR tagset (crebain, cold drakes, Watcher in the Water, Mearas, Kine of Araw, etc...I didn’t sign up with all those tags, but it would be neat to hear about them anyway!)

Cold-drakes and Fire-drakes & Crebain & The Watcher in the Water: Like with the Stone Giants and the Were-worms, I just think they’re neat and I’d love to hear your take on their origins and how they affect the history of Middle-earth. Ghosts and Hauntings: Barrow-wights? Nazgûl victims? Just your crotchety old hobbit neighbor who still holds a grudge about losing the biggest pumpkin contest despite having been dead for 20 years? There’s a lot of potential for stories here; maybe you could combine a ghost story with some other prompt to add a murder mystery or haunting plot to a relationship you’re exploring!

Dwarf-Elf Relations: I don’t believe All Dwarves and All Elves hated each other! We have famous elf-dwarf friendships across the ages, and really it was just the Sindar vs. the Broadbeams/Firebeards that had the feud. Still, Legolas (a Sinda) and Gimli (raised among Broadbeams and Firebeards in the Blue Mountains) are caught up in that, so their friendship is quite remarkable! I’d love interrogations of how that feud continued across centuries and discussions of what really went down in Menegroth, perhaps with one of the Durins having an elf friend at some point in the past that sheds light on how Legolas and Gimli can get along. (I am here for any and all Gimli and Legolas combinations; I love them as friends, I love them as boyfriends or husbands, I love them as queerplatonic partners, I love them as anything in between! Elvish and Mannish settlements in post-Ring War Ithilien: How do Legolas and Faramir get along, both living in Ithilien after the war? What do Legolas’ people think about being neighbors with a bunch of Men? Faramir and Imrahil were Aragorn’s chief commanders after the war, and Legolas expressed admiration for Imrahil; I imagine Imrahil visited his nephew in Ithilien, so what are the interactions of those three like? I’d love to see an exploration of Silvan elves and their culture here, with Legolas leaning into his Silvan heritage and maybe some Silvan OCs who have spent their whole lives in Mirkwood up until now and have never met Men before now! Relations between the Dúnedain and Rivendell: Talk to me about the Grey Company, or Elladan and Elrohir fighting alongside their distant kin, or Rangers taking breaks in Imladris, how the Rangers think of Aragorn who was raised among elves, etc. I’d love an outsider POV here, such as an OC observing the oddities of a canon character. The Glittering Caves of Aglarond: More Gimli and Legolas stuff - but with a focus on Gimli this time :) Gimli as a lord in his own right, Gimli who takes elves on tours of his dwarf-kingdom and weirds out his people (is it just Legolas, or does he take any Silvan elves with him, or like...his elvish in-laws??), Gimli as a craftsman... Or, alternatively, you could explore the caves before Gimli gets to work on them, what the Rohirrim thought of them and how they were created - by natural processes, or by magic, or a mixture of both? Dragonsickness/Goldsickness: The parallel to mental illness in the movies was really interesting. I’d love to see lingering effects of the goldsickness on Thorin after the Battle (Everyone Lives AU, probably), or an AU where Fíli or Kíli inherit the throne of Erebor and are afflicted by it as well. Or, sticking to canon, how did Fíli and Kíli and the rest of the Company deal with Thorin falling into madness? Were the other dwarves affected by the thrall of the gold? Bard and Thranduil were observers of Thorin’s madness; what did they think of him? Did Thranduil remember Thrór under dragonsickness? Or, since movie!Thranduil is a far cry from book!Thranduil when it comes to going to war over jewels, was he affected by the dragonsickness even from a distance? Was Bard? Dwarves who "choose craft"/Aromantic-Spectrum and Asexual-Spectrum Dwarves: This is pulling more from the books than the movies, but I didn’t have enough nomination slots to include any book nominations, so it went here, lol. Anyway: as I’m sure you can tell from my tumblr url, I headcanon Fíli as aromantic, and I love seeing that in fanworks! It’s really wonderful that Tolkien mentioned that many dwarves choose their craft over marriage, and I’d love to see an exploration of that aspect of dwarvish culture, and how Fíli fits into it. It seems to be fairly common/accepted, but are there different cultural pressures around marriage for the crown prince? How does Fíli figure out he’s aromantic? If aro and ace dwarves are expected to be choosing a craft over romance and sex, what’s Fíli’s craft? Or does he not have one, and people judge him for that? The “choose craft” language I use is very much inspired by this post and the Neo-Khuzdul word “bijebtorva” :) Suggested Character(s): Fíli, Original Character(s)

Governance and Politics in Mirkwood: How did Thranduil and Oropher come to power in the Greenwood? I hate the “lowly Silvan elf” line from the movie; can you somehow justify that with worldbuilding, or show how it’s not accurate? Is Legolas half-Silvan like is implied in the LOTR books? Who are Thranduil’s advisors? Is Tauriel really the only one who dislikes and defies Thranduil’s isolationist policies? Is Mirkwood very patriarchal, and is Tauriel’s appointment to Captain of the Guard something she faced opposition or competition for? Are the Sindar elite colonizers, or did they integrate into Silvan society? How does the average Silvan elf feel about their king, or do they not even think about him? Poetry and prophecy: Bard uncovers that tapestry that turns a song from the book into a somewhat ominous prophecy; there’s a lot of discussion of fate and signs from the thrush at the door to the last light of Durin’s Day; Thranduil has seen enough in his thousands of years to have had time to brush up against a prophecy or two. What do these three believe about fate and prophecy? Are any of them prophets in their own right? How does poetry/music lend power to prophecy? (Bonus points if you tie it back into the Ainulindalë...) Suggested Character(s): Bard the Bowman, Thorin, Thranduil

Poisons and antidotes: I love Kíli/Tauriel and the scene where she heals his wound...but the worldbuilding around morgul poison and athelas is a little murky. It’s a decent parallel to Frodo’s condition in the LOTR movies, but it’s confusing lore-wise. Can you make sense of it? If Tauriel is a warrior, where did she learn healing? (In my own headcanons, her foster family are healers, which is how she learned those skills even though she’s primarily a warrior - but feel free to take it in whatever direction you’d like!) Rebuilding Erebor & Relations between Dwarves + Elves + Men: (I’d prefer an Everyone Lives AU for this situation.) How do Thorin and his Company put Erebor back together again? What are the renovation projects like? How long does it take Dís and the rest of the Longbeards to arrive in Erebor and help out? How long does Dáin stay to help his cousin? I would love to see some politics both internally within the Longbeard dwarves and externally as they relate to Mirkwood and Dale. Smaug’s corpse is just lying in the Long Lake...how do the dwarves feel about their old enemy’s body so close by? Do some Men want to re-establish Lake-town, and demand help from the dwarves who flushed the dragon out of the mountain? Do the dwarves want to harvest Smaug’s corpse for resources? (He’s probably got gold and jewels stuck in his scales, and dragon-skin/scales is probably a good raw material for crafting things.) What’s the process of Bard becoming King of Dale? Does he face any opposition? I love the idea of Hilda Bianca challenging him for leadership, or maybe insisting on some kind of democracy/representation in Dale! And if she doesn’t get her way, maybe it’s her leading some people back to Esgaroth and founding a democracy there that would make the old Master roll in his watery grave... How do Bard and Thranduil and Thorin reconcile after the battle? Does Thorin pay up like he said he would? Does Tauriel hang around, or does she go somewhere else? Are any elves inspired by her, or is she a total outcast? If you choose to explore the Kíli/Tauriel relationship, how does that affect politics between Erebor and Mirkwood? Houseless Elves: Why did they refuse the call of Mandos? Do Avari even go to Mandos? Can Melkor and Sauron ensnare these spirits for their necromantic purposes? If the call of Mandos is refused once, does that bar them from listening in the future? What kinds of ghosts are haunting Middle-earth in the First Age? What kinds of ghosts haunt Aman? Magic as a connection to the Music/the Song: Magic isn’t always the best-explained in Tolkien’s universe, but what we do know is the incredible power of the Music. How do the Maiar and Valar, who are not technically beings of Arda, interact with the world? How do elves and men (and dwarves! and orcs!) tap into the Song and manipulate it to their benefit (or detriment)? I have the headcanon that Elemmírë, the elf who sung the Aldudénië, is a priestess of Varda; what was the power of that mourning song, and how was it received by her patron Vala? Nature Spirits: These holes in Tolkien’s worldbuilding are fascinating to me. What role do nature spirits play? How many are there? I’m thinking particularly of river spirits, like the River-woman and Goldberry, but there are probably also mountain spirits and water spirits and-and-and... Are they Maiar? Lesser beings? What do the Maiar we know of think about them? Gandalf seems the kind to listen to them and learn their stories, but perhaps Melian sees them more as servants in protecting her realm... The Shadow-shapes in the hills above Cuiviénen: What were these shapes? Melkor’s prototypical monsters, Maiar who didn’t know how to interact with the Children, something else entirely? What did the original elves believe about them? Did they fear them, did they try to appease them, did they try to confront them? I headcanon that Elemmírë is an Unbegotten elf, so perhaps she lost friends to the Shadows, or thought she did. If the Shadows did take elves, was it out of malice or curiosity or a desire to protect them from whatever Melkor was planning? Suggested Character(s): Melkor, Elemmírë, Original Character(s)

The Void: Melkor spends a whole lot of time here. Does he have any company? Something or someone he makes to pass the time with? Do the Valar (like Manwë or Námo or Varda or Nienna) visit him there? What is the nature of the Void, is it pure emptiness or chaotic magic or a nightmare machine? Is Melkor being punished or is he being contained? And where are the boundaries of the Void? The Silmarillion: Elven Relationships

Note: This request deals with relationships, and while I’m open to pretty much anything, please keep in mind my DNWs. Exploring these topics using canon relationships is a safe bet; I adore Maedhros/Fingon so having a look at them through this lens would be amazing; I have Aredhel as a character request here, and I see her as aromantic (“to none was her heart’s love given”) so while showing her in a relationship is fine, I’d love it if you could take her lack of romantic feelings into account; if you have a question about another ship, you can check to see what I’ve written and/or send me anon message! Additionally, a lot of these talk about soul bonds, which I’m very interested in, but one of my DNWs is soulmates. To me the concepts are very different things; it’s the destiny and inevitability and universal assumption of romance that really squick me out about soulmates. Soul bonds, on the other hand, have an aspect of choice to them that I really dig. So, please don’t make characters Fated For One Another, but please do explore what joining souls is like!

Laws & Customs of the Eldar: Boy do I have a lot of feelings about LaCE—and I’m always intrigued by other people’s feelings, too! I’d love to see an exploration of how these laws and customs came to be, which parts of the rules around marriage and children and re-embodiment are social constructs and which are innate to the fëa and hröa, and/or relationships that defy the norms. If your take on the laws is hetero/cisnormative, how does that affect queer elves? If your take is free of bigotry, what are the flexibilities around queerness, including asexuality and aromanticism? Laws and customs and rules always have loopholes and exceptions, so what do elves who don’t fit into the expected relationship mold do about these norms? Arranged Marriages among the Eldar: Russingon arranged marriage AU?? Orrrr....Maedhros or Fingon are politically engaged to someone else, and they have to deal with the ramifications of that? (Please don’t have them actually go through with the marriage if you go that route; I’m not interested in a story with Fingon having a wife, even if she’s a beard.) If elves (usually) only love once, and by declaration of the Valar can only marry once (Finwë being the somewhat disastrous exception), how is an arranged marriage justified within the cultural emphasis on these bonds? Are they more like arranged romances, people pushing their children together in hopes that they’ll fall in love? Or is it a stricter rule about “you do what’s best for this family”? (Note: Bad/cruel parenting is one of my major DNWs, so if you’re going that route, please don’t make the parent uncaring or malicious. Stubborn and narrow-minded is fine, as is the genuine belief that this is what’s best for the child, but ideally they’ll learn from their mistakes or perhaps everything will be interrupted and derailed by Canon Events. Creation/Discovery of soul bonds: How do soul bonds work on a metaphysical level? Can they be broken? Do they have to be nurtured and maintained? What’s long-distance communication like? Heck, what’s short-distance communication like, is it like talking in your mind or sharing your feelings or more abstract than that? Can elves form soul bonds with mortals? And most importantly—how did elves figure out they could soul bond with one another?? I can imagine that would be quite a shock when they’re discovering sex and then suddenly they’re inside each other’s minds! Suggested Character(s): Any Unbegotten Elf Character(s)

Non-romantic/sexual soul bonds: I’m good with practically any relationship here. Explore sibling bonds, twin bonds, parent-child bonds, queerplatonic bonds, found family bonds, adoption bonds, the bond between a Vala and their Maia...any kind of soul bond that is familial or platonic or chosen without regard to romance! (Feel free to take a canon romantic relationship and turn it queerplatonic, I live for that shit!) How are these bonds formed outside of sex? What are the rituals and ceremonies around forming them? Is it a public or private thing? Are non-romantic soul bonds taken seriously, or are they seen as less important than marriage bonds? Since elven parents literally give part of their soul in the creation of the child, is that parent-child bond innate? Suggested Character(s): Aredhel, Any Unbegotten Elf Character(s)

Elven adoption: I nominated this with Kidnap Dads in mind (if you go that route I love fluff for them as well as more nuanced/complicated takes on the situation, but whatever you do don’t make M&M cruel, and please include Maedhros as a parental figure alongside Maglor)...but hey, it could work for Fingon (and Maedhros) adopting Gil-galad! What are traditions around elven adoption? Are there soul bonds created between the adoptive parents and children? Was adoption even a thing in Aman, or is it only practiced in Middle-earth? Did elves adopt mortals and vice versa? Is adoption extended to found family other than a parent-child situation? How is adoption viewed by elvish society, especially if inheritance/succession is a concern? Suggested Character(s): Maedhros, Fingon, Elros Tar-Minyatur, Elrond

The Silmarillion: Noldorin Politics

Original Fëanorian follower(s) who turned on their lords at Sirion: Okay, this is a character tag, but I’m absolutely obsessed with this line: “For the sons of Fëanor that yet lived came down suddenly upon the exiles of Gondolin and the remnant of Doriath, and destroyed them. In that battle some of their people stood aside, and some few rebelled and were slain upon the other part aiding Elwing against their own lords (for such was the sorrow and confusion in the hearts of the Eldar in those days).” Who were these people who followed the Fëanorians into exile, into a Kinslaying, through the burning of the ships, through 30 years of Maglor as a king-regent incapable of treating with the Nolofinwëans, through the scattering of their lords and the harsh conditions of the North, through the Bragollach and the Nírnaeth and a “wild and woodland life” and the Second Kinslaying (where some of them went as far as to abandon children in the winter woods to die because they thought it was what their lord/s would want), through isolation and hatred from every other elven group, through the plan to attack a refugee camp—through ALL OF THAT, and THEN they turn on their lords at Sirion??? Why betray your lords NOW? And the people who DID keep following them after that (after kidnapping children!!!), what were they thinking?? — I firmly believe that Maedhros has many escapees from Angband in his service who are ride or die for him and whose morality was somewhat warped by Angband, but what about Maglor’s followers? Caranthir’s? Ambarussa’s? Even Celegorm and Curufin’s?? There’s just SO MUCH potential for story here, I’m dying to read about them!

Noldorin lines of succession: Was It Sexist Or Was It Not: The Eternal Question aka Why Didn’t Idril Become High Queen After Turgon? Also, what does “eldest of the house of Finwë, and not the least wise” even MEAN, Maedhros?? How did Gil-galad come to power? I find it hard to believe he became king immediately after Gondolin fell; was it a wartime power grab? A battlefield promotion? How did the kingship get established in the first place? Why was Finwë chosen to go with Oromë to Aman? Was Maglor ever really king, or did he only rule as a regent for the missing Maedhros? Suggested Character(s): Finwë, Gil-galad, Maglor

Origins of Gil-galad: I am always so interested in takes on Gil-galad’s parentage. My favorites are Russingon baby Gil (through trans mpreg or adoption, both are good) and secret peredhel Gil (probably an Aegnor/Andreth baby adopted by Orodreth), but I also love Finduilas Is Gil-galad and honestly, any situation is fascinating here—just convince me! A possible way to explore this is through Outsider POV; some noble or historian trying to figure out just what the heck is up with Gil-galad. His parentage being confusing in-canon is so fun!! Maglor's Kingship between Maedhros' capture and rescue: Was Maglor ever really king? Did he give up on Maedhros early on, or did he cling to the hope that he still lived? Did his brothers turn to him for support, or did they connive to take responsibility from him? The rift between the Noldor wasn’t healed until Maedhros’ rescue; did Maglor try to cooperate with Fingolfin, or did he keep his people isolated? Was he relieved when Maedhros came back and took responsibility, or was he resentful to lose his power? How does this situation (and Maglor not going to rescue Maedhros) affect M&M’s relationship later on? Suggested Character(s): Maglor, Original Fëanorian follower(s)..., Curufin, Caranthir

Dwarf-Elf relations in the First Age & Dwarf-kingdoms: Dwarf-friends!!! Yes!!! I love elves and dwarves being buds (or partners if you’d like to go that route!) <3 IIRC, Curufin learned Khuzdul, and I’m sure Celebrimbor did too; Caranthir was supposedly rude to the dwarves, but what if that’s just his (and their!) love language? How did relations between the Sindar and the dwarves sour over time? Maedhros was friends with Azaghâl; how did that relationship begin? How did Finrod’s contract with the dwarves blossom into a real friendship? Eöl was also buddies with the dwarves; did he ever bump into Curufin or Caranthir while at a trade festival or something? And the dwarf kingdoms of the First Age are fascinating on their own, too; what was the political structure like? Did the dwarves bring items from the other side of the mountains into Beleriand? How did the petty-dwarves get exiled? What happened to Nogrod and Belegost in the War of Wrath, and were they ever re-established after the sinking of Beleriand? Guilds and Noble Houses of Tirion: Give me a Tirion political drama! Finwë trying to appease his lords and craftseldar? Roles and Responsibilities in the Noldorin Royal Family: There were oodles of princes in Valinor. What did they all do? How did they get the followers who came with them to Middle-earth? How did this change in Middle-earth when suddenly everyone was in danger and had more pressing needs? What is it like being a re-embodied royal in a society that’s adapted to life without you? War of Wrath: For a war that took so long and had such wide-reaching repercussions, we really don’t have very many details about this. It’s free real estate, basically! I have my favorite characters (Maedhros, Maglor, Elrond, Elros, Gil-galad...) that you could use to explore this time period, but literally anyone who’s alive at this point is fair game. And OCs! What do the Noldor and Vanyar (and Telerin sailors) feel about the War and interacting with the war-weary exiles and Sindar and Men of late-stage Beleriand? What kind of culture shock/culture clash is there? Were re-embodied exiles permitted to return to Middle-earth, or were they barred from going to war again? Suggested Character(s): Original Noldorin Character, Original Vanyarin Character

Trauma after the War of Wrath for elves and humans & Exiles adjusting to life in the Undying Lands post War of Wrath & Dealing with psychological trauma in Valinor: Trauma was commonplace in Beleriand, but not so much in Valinor. What’s it like for exiles who sail West to be in a society that doesn’t know how to support them? Are the Valar having to learn how to deal with the trauma of living elves super quickly, or are they reticent to change? How do the exiles interact with their re-embodied kin? What do the Vanyar and other Amanyar think of these elves who have been so deeply hurt? What kinds of treatises on psychology are penned by scholars with little to no previous experience? What is therapy like in Valinor? Do the exiles get together for support groups since no one else understands them? Or did the trauma of the Darkening and the First Kinslaying wake up the Amanyar and get their act together before then; are the exiles surprised by the structures already in place to support them? And what about Avari who have been dying steadily all this time from accidents and incidents in Middle-earth? If they’ve been re-embodied, how do they engage with the Eldar who have similar traumas? Afterlives: This is pretty vague, but I think it’s referring to the various kinds of afterlife. What are the Halls of Mandos like? What happens to spirits who don’t go to Mandos? Do Men pass through Mandos on the way to Beyond? What happens to Men? Are they reincarnated in the more traditional understanding of the word, do they go to some other realm similar to Arda, are they just endlessly partying it up with Eru? Do dwarves really go to the Halls, or is that just a superstition? And of course, what about orcs? Suggested Character(s): Námo

Fate of orc souls after death: Yeah, really, what about orcs? If the orcs were originally elves twisted into Morgoth’s servants, are their spirits still elven? Are they reborn as they once were, elven despite their life as an orc? What about orcs who are many generations removed from their elvish ancestors? Do they have fëar? Can orcs be rehabilitated? I refuse to accept that all orcs are inherently evil; but what does everyone believe in-universe? Suggested Character(s): Námo, Original Orc Character(s)

Foresight and Prophecy and Doom: I’m honestly not sure if this fanon or canon, but Finarfin and his line having foresight through Indis is a wonderful concept and I’d love an exploration of that. How accurate is foresight? Can fate be circumvented? Are prophecies like the Doom of the Noldor self-fulfilling, or are they warnings about possible futures, or are they curses upon people? If you have a high Doom upon you, does that end with your death, or does it follow you to Mandos and beyond? Suggested Character(s): Námo, Finarfin

Songs and Words of Power: Rap battles with Sauron! ...joking aside, song as magic is just fascinating to me. How does this connect to the Ainulindalë and the Song of the World? The elves named themselves Quendi, the Speakers; how do they view the power of words and their ability to change the world around them? Stars and Starlight: “All light is sacred to the Eldar...but wood-elves love best the light of the stars.” Okay, sorry for being a Hobbit movie apologist on main, but I do love Tauriel! How do elves view starlight? Is it holy, or are the stars more like their friends and guides? Did the Avari choose to remain in Middle-earth partially because of their love for the stars, which were drowned out by the light of the Trees? How does Eärendil feel about being a star; does he feel blasphemous or holy? What legends and superstitions are there among Avari and Men and others who don’t know the origins of Gil-Estel about the new star in the sky? Suggested Character(s): Morwë, Eärendil

The Unseen Realm: This is the in-between world where Frodo goes when he wears the ring, the world that the Nazgûl in their half-life inhabit. Are Ainur able to slip into this realm at will? Did Gandalf walk invisible in Gondolin? How does Sauron manipulate this realm to his purposes? Is this where elves go if they fade? (I don’t usually like Maglor fading, but it could be an interesting way to explore this...) Suggested Character(s): Námo, Sauron, Nazgûl, Maglor

Magical Artefacts & Magical Communications: Palantíri! Galadriel’s mirror! Ósanwë! All sorts of cool ways to talk with magic. Do the Rings of Power enable long-distance ósanwë? Did the Silmarils contain pieces of Fëanor’s soul? What other marvelous magical creations were there that didn’t make it into the Legendarium we know? Feudalism between Eldar and Edain: We have Edain entering into the service of Noldorin lords (Bëor and Finrod, Hador and Fingolfin, Amlach and Maedhros) and land being given to Men by elves (or not, in Haleth’s case)...how far did this feudal relationship extend? Were the Edain mostly autonomous or were they very much bound to their elven lords? Were there common elves who paid tribute to Edain lords? Can any relationship between elves and Men truly be equal if this is the way they originated? Fealty kink? Suggested Character(s): Curufin, Original Elf Character

Fourth Age Tirion: What’s Tirion like with a bunch of dead people walking around living again, and a bunch of weird legends now imposing in daily life? What’s the first meeting of Rúmil and Pengolodh like—who geeks out over whom? Are the Fëanorians back yet? Is the average elf even really aware of all the nonsense that happened in Middle-earth, or are they extremely unimpressed with King So-and-So of a square of land that’s now underwater trying to cut them in line at the coffee shop? Relationship between Noldor and Dwarves: See “Dwarf-Elf relations in the First Age & Dwarf-kingdoms” in my Silm request for a starting point...but also, was Elrond’s Last Homely House open to dwarves? How did Galadriel come to respect the dwarves, especially after her Sindar kin grew to hate them? Suggested Character(s): Curufin, Celebrimbor, Elrond, Galadriel

Timekeeping between the Death of the Two Trees and the Rise of the Sun and Moon: Tolkien’s math drives me ABSOLUTELY INSANE. His timelines are contradictory, I get headaches just thinking about the length of elf pregnancy, what does aging mean for an immortal species, WHY ARE TREE YEARS LIKE THAT and WHAT IS A YÉN? Please try and make sense of this for me, I beg of thee. I’m especially interested in the time period between the Death of the Trees and the Rise of the Sun and Moon. Did the Noldor wander the Helcaraxë for 3 years or 30? How long was Maitimo in Angband? Did the Sindar even realize something was different? How did people start calculating Sun years? When was the calendar of the First Age adopted? Who did all this math? Is there an in-universe explanation for these contradictions? Do people fight over math? Do the Ainur experience time the same way the Children do? Did some Noldo genius come up with a timekeeping system that worked with the Moon, only for the Sun to come along and muck it up? Suggested Character(s): Pengolodh, Rúmil of Tirion, Original Elf Character, Fëanor - really any scholarly character, tbh!

Treatment of Angband's Escaped Thralls: Which kinds of escapees choose to go to Himring with Maedhros the Tall, and which choose to go to Gondolin and the House of the Hammer of Wrath? Was Rôg an escapee too? Can Maedhros really tell who’s been turned by the Enemy? Does Thingol have the right of it in turning away thralls from Doriath? (If he even does that, I’m now researching this and I’m not sure it’s actually canon...) What was it like for Maedhros and Gwindor to readjust to elven society? Did Elrond grow up surrounded by Fëanorian followers who escaped Angband, and is that where he learned healing? Suggested Character(s): Original Elf Character, Elrond

In-universe authorial bias in historical texts: All of the Legendarium is a history, which means there’s bound to be unreliable narrators. Was Maeglin really as evil as the story says? What gets left out of the narrative? What gets lost in translation? Who lives, who dies, who tells your story? Suggested Character(s): Pengolodh, Rúmil of Tirion

Trade in Middle-earth: What was trade like in First Age Beleriand? What about Second Age trade between Númenor and the mainland? Was Ost-in-Edhil a trade hub? After Sauron returned and traveling became dangerous, what intrepid traders braved the wilds for the sake of goods and money? How was currency developed around the world? Suggested Character(s): Curufin, Celebrimbor, Elrond, Galadriel

Orcs Surviving the Wars: Again, I don’t believe that all orcs are irredeemably, inherently evil. Were they persecuted and stamped out after the Ring War, or did some escape and adapt to a life without a harsh overlord? What’s orc agriculture like? Would Elrond take a chance on rehabilitating an orc in Rivendell? What if orcs were more complicated all along, and it’s the histories that simplified them to cardboard-cutout villains? The Adventure Zone: Balance

My only non-Tolkien request, oops. Don’t think I’m not as interested in this request, though; I’m the only one who nominated for it, so I picked my very favorite concepts and I’d love to see what you do with them!

Angus McDonald’s Grandfather: This guy’s name was lost to time, and he loves silverware, and he has a grandson, and that’s pretty much all we know about him. Was he involved in the Relic Wars somehow? Did his name get eaten by the Voidfish? I imagine he’s a rather eccentric fellow; how much of that did he pass on to Angus? Is he even real, or was Angus lying to Tres Horny Boys about his destination?

Any Wonderland Adventurer(s): I’d love to see what happens to the other people who go to Wonderland before our boys. Do they all die? How many get what they want and get out? Do any of them have weaker moral compasses than THB and agree to advertise for Edward and Lydia? What if Edward or Lydia fell in love with an adventurer and trapped them there? What kinds of things do people sacrifice to the Wheel? We know about the Escape Game and the Healing Game; what about the Recovery Game? How long has Wonderland been around? How has it evolved over time? What was it like before Edward and Lydia got ahold of the Animus Bell? How did they get ahold of it? (Personally I think Barry just gave it to them...but did he have to go through the trials first?)

Differences within species between the Two-Sunned World and Faerun: I love the fanon that Two-Sun elves are juuust a little different from Faerun elves...like Taako’s echolocation, for example. But what if this applies to the other species like gnomes and dwarves and even humans? How are the Seven Birds just a liiiitle off from everyone else around them? Also, Cat Elves. This is an excuse for Two-Sun Cat Elves. GIVE TAAKO A TAIL. (I mean, or not, do what you want, but I’d love to see that, lol.) Reclaimers before Tres Horny Boys: Who were the other Reclaimers? Who did Lucretia trust to carry out this dangerous mission? How did they all each, inevitably fail? What if Magic Brian was a Reclaimer gone wrong? What was the last straw for Lucretia, the last failure that made her scheme to get her boys back? And the other Reclaimers weren’t officially disbanded right away; how did they feel about the new guys in town, and losing their jobs to these doofuses? The Relic Wars: There were wars about the Relics!!! Wars!! That everyone forgot!! Wars where people that THB knew died!! And then we never get into this in canon! It drives me nuts! I would love to see an exploration of this chaotic time period, what the IPRE did to mitigate the damage, which relics were obvious and terrifying and which were secret and terrifying, etc... I’ve written a bit about Relic War-era Hurloane, but what were the other NPCs doing? (Or Hurley and Sloane too, I’d love to see your take on them too!) When Lucretia wiped everyone’s memories, what was lost? (I suspect Angus’ Grandfather got caught up in that...) How did those missing memories lead people to the Bureau of Balance? The Robot World's crystal post-Story and Song: The IPRE promised to return the Robot World’s crystal if they ever managed to defeat the Hunger...and we know they can plane hop from the casino liveshow...so, did they ever return the crystal? How did that go down? How does the Robot World rebuild itself? And if we’re going into it being the (K)nights Arc’s setting, are there other characters than Troth that we might recognize? Worlds that survived the Hunger: In the worlds where the IPRE found the Light of Creation before the Hunger arrived, what was it like for the people there who had to endure the Hunger’s attack? What was the scope of the destruction? How did they rebuild afterward? Does uniting against a common enemy bring the people of the world together and create more Tesseralia-like societies? How many people knew about the IPRE, and what did they think about them? When they hear the Story and Song, what’s the reaction? Suggest some peeps for me to genderbend on Picrew!

So I made a female Riddle with this Picrew and didn’t know who to do next, so suggest some people for me and I’ll try to genderbend them too! If you have an idea on what kind of environment you’d like them to be in or certain hairstyles/clothing you think would fit, you can add that in your request too and I’ll try to fulfill it based on my options I might even swap picrew styles for one that might fit better, so feel free to link whatever ones you’d like me to use too.

Anyway, time to describe my creative process lol. For the first one, I made it with the intention of him being at some kinda party his mom dragged him to. Lowkey inspired by Weiss Schnee to the point I might actually make a Weiss Schnee one for fun speaking of, you can suggest more than twst characters. You could do MHA, TBHK, LoL, or just any ol’ character, though I can’t promise I’ll know who they are

“How are you expecting me to help, if I have no idea what you’re talking about?”

“I think I’m in love with Lola?”

Peyton stared at her best friend in disbelief for a moment. “Excuse me, what?”

“Like, I’m so impressed by her? She’s like, seriously smart, and absolutely gorgeous by the way — I can’t make sense of how a person just naturally that pretty? — and like, her way of speaking so articulate? She’s just- I think she might be who I’ve been looking for all this time?”, the brunette girl sighed, almost sounding lovesick.

“Woah there, hold your horses, Ramona, don’t get your hopes too high, you remember what happened the last time you thought a girl was the one?”

“Yeah, kinda weird how Remedee and Delaney are already engaged-”

“Exactly!”

“Well, I don’t think Remedee would be Lola’s type or the other way around, and like I said, the’re engaged, Patty.”

The blonde rolled her eyes and adjusted her glasses. Usually she’d be ecstatic to help her friend in these kinda situation, but she’s been hurt twice in a row and this was a different kind of crush or being in love than Delaney or even Ramona's Ex-Girlfriend.

This was Lola.

Their best friend.

The only reason she had met Virginia.

This was completely different.

She needed proof that this wasn’t going to flop.

“Give me three days.”, Peyton suddenly said, looking back at the girl in front of her. “Then I’ll give you an estimate on if this will work and how long it will take. Sound good?”

Ramona jumped up and hugged the blonde with so much impact, that they almost fell off the coffee table that Peyton had been seated on. “Thank you so much!”

After she got back up, Ramona dusted herself off and smiled sweetly. “I’ll be off then, Rem asked me if I wanted to join her and Dee at Dinner tonight. She claimed that Dee set her up to ask me, but when I said that I was at your place, she looked like a lost puppy, so I had to say yes.”, she chuckled. “So, I’ll text you?”

“See you, Rori!”, Peyton called after her ash she watched her escape through the front door of the apartment. “Virge! I need to talk to you right now!”

Her purple haired roommate and girlfriend stepped out of the room, a black ball of fur on her arm and a grumpy look on her face. “Whaaaat? Pandora and I were trying to take a nap back there, you know?”

“Sorry, Stormcloud, I need you to dig around a bit for me, though.”, She explained got up from the table, heading toward the slightly shorter girl. “You’re adorable, you know? Oh and, Virge, I think you’re okay, too.”

Virginia just stared at her in disbelief. “Who are you and what have you done with my girlfriend? You must’ve finally met Remedee, was she here instead of Ramona and tinted your innocence?”

“Honestly, you’re terrible.”, she deadpanned before kissing the girl on the cheek. “Let’s go cuddle with Pandora and then I’ll explain what’s up?”

“Sounds fantastic.”

After a while of them just lazily petting the furball that Pandora was, Peyton began to speak.

“Ramona is all head over heels for Lola.”

Virginia froze for a moment before jerking her head to the side to look at the blonde. “You’re kidding, right?”

“Why would I be! This is terrible!”

“No, actually, this is fucking perfect!”

Peyton gasped, though it was rather fake, she knew she wasn’t going to be able to change her girlfriends habit of cursing in every situation. Nonetheless, she followed the sound with a rather squeaky “Language!”

“So, why is it perfect?”

“Remember the call that woke us up last night? Lola needed advice. She couldn’t sleep, which is old news, I know, but!”, she paused for dramatic effect. “This wasn’t casual insomnia, Lola and I both know what that feels like and that wasn’t it. Her mind was twisting and turning and no matter what happened, her thoughts drifted to our perfect little princess!”

Peyton squeaked, in excitement this time. “And I have the perfect plan!”, she exclaimed before pulling out her phone and texting her brunette friend.

RAMONA I GOT A SOLUTION

I saw, you doofus. I need’a eat with Miss Remedee Kathrina Prince and her girlfriend, miss Delaney Guja for dinner, if you’d excuse me?

A few weeks after that, the friend group met for their yearly Christmas party, which was more of a calm get together, if you ignored Remedee’s whole behavior, this year it was held at the shared place of Emilie and Ramona.

Peyton and Virginia thought this to be the perfect opportunity to carry out their plan. And they also had a woman on the inside.

Although Emelie wasn’t too keen on just playing with her friends feelings and getting into their relationship, she agreed when the girlfriends explained that both girls had deeply fallen for each other and that they had their reasons to ask for help.

The party was, like every year, set on the night of the 25th. It had been going rather calm, even Remedee was slightly reserved, which had scared Peyton and Ramona a slight bit, but she didn’t mention it, and they had all just exchanged gifts and everyone was being rather cutesy about it.

There were kisses and hugs everywhere, which had Peyton’s heart melting, she loved how they were all just a big family.

After Virginia had slightly hinted at the more-than-friends behavior René and Emelie had toward each other and that they had to find out what that was later, she reminded her girlfriend of their mission. They gave Emelie a small sign that they had talked about before and got to work.

The smallest of the bunch had excused herself to go to the bathroom, her girlfriend had distracted her best friend with some cute photos she had taken of Pandora. And maybe some couple pictures, but Virginia didn’t need to know that.

Emelie had gotten to her part, talking to Lola about the psychology behind dreams, it was a subject she knew the black haired couldn’t resist.

Perfect.

While the plan had been going as it was planned, Remedee and René had sneaked into the kitchen to pop the first bottle of champagne. That would be a problem that the bunch would have to deal with later.

Delaney had to leave earlier, her little sister, Amber, had called, it was something urgent, but she didn’t tell the others why, just that it would be fine and they should continue having fun.

“So basically, our little sunshine is… Actually a sunshine? Or are you just that good at photoshop?”, Ramona had asked, laughing.

Peyton had tried for quite a while to get Ramona in the right position, they needed all of it to be perfect, and had grown frustrated at this point.

How do you make a person move backwards?

As Emelie had noticed that, she gave her friend the tiniest of nods, trying to communicate to her, that she got it.

Because, in comparison to Ramona, Lola didn’t like to be too close to people, so if Emilie moved closer to the black haired, she would subconsciously walk backwards.

That did the job, both unbelievably oblivious girls were now standing back to back, with Peyton and Emilie smiling at each other, hoping the girls wouldn’t notice.

Virginia, who had never went to the bathroom in the first place, had been impatiently waiting on top of the staircase, a huge grin on her face.

“Yo! Teach, Princey!”, she yelled and held her arm out over them.

Peyton held back a squeal while Emilie quietly chuckled.

The mentioned girls were both looking up to see the small arrangement the purple haired was holding.

A mistletoe.

Lola was the first to look down from it and turned to her crush, staring for a bit.

After a while of mentally cursing every single Disney villain she could think of, and that were a lot, Ramona also decided to look away from the mistletoe. Lola was as red as her favorite dress, and the brunette suspected that she’d look the same. “Well, I- I know the rules but if you- I mean we don’t gotta, you know? Like, if you're not wanting to, that’s fine with me- I just-”

While Ramona was trying to form a sentence, Lola considered her chances.

It was a fifty/fifty in her book. Either she would be rejected, or not. She was gonna regret it anyway, but who cared. She would take advantage of that moment.

So Lola did a thing that no one expected, she grabbed the collar of her crushes shirt and pulled her close. “Zip it.”

And then her lips were on Ramona’s.

Virginia almost let the mistletoe fall on top of them in the attempt to keep her composure and took a few pictures short after, the angle possibly not the best, but she knew none of the technically unoccupied girls would be able to move apart from the grins that were getting wider by the second.

As Ramona stood there frozen, thanking whatever deity helped her, Lola grew more and more anxious over her decision. She was about to pull back when the brunette put her arms around her neck and kissed back.

Que a wolf whistle from the general direction of the kitchen.

“Get some, sis!”, was yelled, rather drunkenly.

Both immediately jumped back and Ramona turned to her sister. “Rem!”, she yelled, her voice cracking. “Why?”

“Well, you know?”, Remedee said, still sounding very drunk, getting closer to the bunch with René trailing behind, “Revenge.”

And the way she said it, so serious and sober, had almost scared Ramona, until her twin started laughing and almost falling over.

The brunette girl turned to her best friend. “Peyton?”

“Don’t at me! You granted me permission to do anything!”

“So you decided to make my roommate pull a Brutus on me? How considerate.”

“I asked. And if it weren’t for Virginia I wouldn’t have been able to do it!”

Lola just blinked for a while before clearing her throat. “Excuse me?”

“Riiiiight... So you weren’t in for any of it but I kinda broke my promise?”, Virginia started as she was supporting René and standing with the group.

The black haired raised an eyebrow. “Virginia?”

She sighed and decided to load the literal weight on her shoulders onto Emelie and also finally get rid of the metaphorical one of breaking a promise. “Ramona told Peyton she likes you the day after you so graciously woke me and my cat up because you couldn’t sleep because you’re too gay for this shit. So we talked and figured out we needed to get you two together and well,” the girl looked at her accomplices. “We didn’t think you’d be the one to initiate that. So I’m not sure about these two, but I’m still stunned.”

“So you planned that.”

“Yes.”

“And you all knew about it.”

“Pretty much?”

“And all of you kept shut in front of me?”

“Looks like it.”

Lola nodded. “I’m impressed. That’s literally the first thing ever that you were able to keep from me.”

Peyton’s face lit up. “You’re not mad?”

Ramona, who was kind of embarrassed at this point, just linked arms with Lola and let her away from the group, so they were sitting on the couch now, talking. Both of them still had the slightest tints of pink on their faces, but both had smiles on their faces.

“Mission accomplished!”, Peyton said, looking back to the others, wanting to hug both her teammates, until she saw how Emilie had to try to keep René away from trying to kiss her.

“You need help there, Em?”, Virginia had asked with a smirk.

“Nope, I’m fine! It’s fine! I’m good.”

And just like that, the team had another mission. Taking care of two drunk disasters who were absolutely horrible.

At least two of them woke up without headaches the next morning.

Kid fic...? like fan kid? Those are super cute!!! Cause I love family fics and all that, but like.... it can be a double edged sword. Cause if it’s one of those fan fics that takes a gay ship and genderbends one of them so they can have a kid that way, then I’m not into it. Or worse...Mpr*g and boy howdy I have seen WAY TOO MANY OF THOSE KINDS OF FICS OVER THE YEARS. I’m emotionally scarred, so road trip in this case.

Gwenspiration: The Wacky Version Vol. 3 - The Moodboards

So, here I go again parading myself and tooting like there is no tomorrow.

As people still brave enough to follow me on Tumblr will know, I do a lot of moodboards, or at least I call them such. Others call them collages or storyboards or pictures with random text. Either way, for me, moodboards became a neat tool to somehow capture story ideas not yet anywhere near a level that I could write fic about them - or serve as inspirations for fics I am actually writing.

And it gives me opportunity to hoard unhealthy amounts of Gwen and Nik pics, in the name of moodboards. And science. And stuff. Whoozah!

So yeah, in this post, I want to share some of my personal favorites. A lot of them actually, because I can’t decide, really.

I will start off with a group of moodboards which took inspiration from the Marvel universe, since the Marvel universe was my gateway into the more active parts of fandom.

An all-time fave is the Iron Man AU... I mean, what not to love about a JB AU with Jaime as sassy Tony Stark and Brienne as the not-taking any shit from you army doctor, am I right? But yeah, seriously, Jaime *is* the Tony Stark of the GOT universe, and I can’t be convinced otherwise. And neither should be you.

Also, the Iron Man suits just totally fit the color scheme for both, which made creating the moodboards all the better for me. Jaime and Brienne were made for armor, now in medieval or modern times, let’s not kid ourselves.

Another Marvel fave has got to be Captain Westeros. Because if there is a female GOT Version of Steve Rogers, it’s gotta be Brienne of fuckin’ Tarth. This one is really close to my heart because it gave me a lot of feels coming up with plot bunnies for it, and the tragedy of those two people missing each other in time over and over again, always trying to protect one another, only to end up on opposite sides because of the machinations of others... *sigh*

And I mean, one guy loses an arm. The other is blond and strong... I don’t make the rules but this delivers me enough material to re-imagine this as a JB AU... so yeah, I do kinda make the rules after all. Anyway.

Since I realized that this post’s gonna get even looooonger, I decided to make a cut here and put the rest below, so not to have you scrolling for five hours.

Although it’s not the most popular moodboard amongst my followers (you brave people, I can’t parade you enough for staying through the madness lol), I really, really love that Fantastic Four moodboard and the concept behind it. And I just know a lot of effort went into making Valyrian Steel Brienne, which took all of my three computer editing skillz brain cells. But yeah, here again, I liked to play with the idea of them not admitting to their love until shit hits the fan and then they hide behind that because... drama, angst, feels, pining, yadda.

Jurassic Park (aka Valyrian Park) evidently holds a special place in my heart because JB fighting dinosaur-dragon hybrids and kicking ass while being disbelieving about what was bred out in Valyria thanks to some certain someones to rescue Brienne’s adoptive daughter Arya is just... a thing? For me anyway.

More down memory lane, I don’t know how often I watched the LOTR movies, suffice to say it was a lot a lot. We had the extended versions DVDs of the first two and basically it was the one thing to watch when nothing was on (which was the case a lot). Either way. JB in MIddle Earth long after the days of Frodo et al. - why? Because I just loved the idea (and aesthetic) of Jaime as a ranger and Brienne as a knight of Gondor working in disguise. And Hobbipod. I mean, Pod as a Hobbit. Come the fuck on. And Tyrion as an asshole wizard. What could possibly go wrong? This moodboard was very time-consuming as I had to do a lot of edits (pointy ears, tiny up people, smudge Brienne’s face on a lot of Boromir and Faramir images, smudge Jaime’s face on a lot of Aragorn images, you name it). So yeah. No matter its popularity... I dig it. Despite not having read the books yet (I know, shocking), I continue to ogle at the idea and go like: Must. Write. But. Must. Resist. Either way. Mood.

So yeah, I grew up watching these movies a lot, too (I grew up watching a lot of TV, period). And when Gwen was cast as Captain Phasma, I got a lot of JB juices flowing as a result. Mehe. I found it was a fun idea to play with, to basically *kill* Phasma so *Brienne* can come into play and assume her identity. And a rundown Jedi!Jaime who’s lost faith in himself and everything else safe for his partner in crime/resistance is just... I needz. So you gotta cope with it. I still adore this concept a lot even if others may not. :)

This one’s just... gah. Feels. And I really liked the color scheme lol. And I watched Horse Whisperer A LOT. Because of feels. And horses. And Honor is a horse and he deserved better than be barbecued at Highgarden, dammit.

The No Reservations AU definitely has to be in this post because I live for this dynamic. Brienne taking care of the girls, not knowing how, though, constantly doubting herself while always trying to be perfect and composed, not just in life but on the job as well. And Jaime being the laid-back guy who’s just a darn good chef but may carry his own baggage of problems that keep him from his happy ending story is just... mah jam.

This one was a lot of fun to do because you don’t really think about Erin Brockovich when you say Brienne of Tarth in terms of character. But when you scratch away the boob jokes and the differences in where they come from, what you find are two hard-working women who fight for justice, so I found that close enough. And it was excuse enough for me to go down the lane of biker!Jaime because... dayum.

Music and Lyrics is an all-time guilty pleasure romcom of mine. It’s so light and easy and I kind of love how everyone is basically a bunch of awkward losers. All the more perfect for Jaime as a singer (we need that in our lives after the infamous video Nik was in to sing to us about global warming...) and Brienne as the unexpectedly gifted songwriter. What I like about the moodboard per se is how the color scheme turned out because it’s all warm and bright and... makes me happy.

Very much in contrast to the former stands this one. I still love the overall mood of it and I dig the story idea because I dug both The Prestige and The Illustionist because they presented something dark yet very different, which made it all the more appealing to put into a moodboard for me. While not the most well-known moodboard of mine, I keep going back to it time and time again to basically lust at all the illusions and magic and drama. And blue butterflies.

What is there not to love about a Pacific Rim AU for JB, am I right? Right?! JB ain’t just compatible when it comes to the Drift, yo, that’s all I’m gonna say. Reasons why I like the moodboard a lot is that it’s very different, flashy colors, gigantic robots, and I was mostly alright with how the edits turned out. It is tough to get images that fit the angles, yo.

Jumping back in time once more, I really adore this one even though it’s not one of my popular moodboards. I dug the fusion of elements from Cinderella Man while granting Brienne as the female lead more space to develop as a character and make her a badass sniper nurse who is about to get her doctor’s degree. And Jaime doing anything to make it work because he owes her a debt (and his love) by boxing his way to their shared life is just... nice.

Another supposedly lesser known moodboard is this one, though I really adore it for its premise and the amount of work I put into it (all the giffing and moodboarding). I also found use for that image of Gwen with what looks like the veil of a nun, which was probably what had me inspired in the first place lol. The plot bunnies revolve less around Se7en and more the novel El ùltimo Catón (2001) because it has a nun solving a mystery revolving around Dante’s works. But Se7en gives us the Seven, which is a delicious parallel too hard to ignore. For me at least. If only I knew how to write crime, dammit.

Now, to move more into the serial (smooth transition from serial killer to serial TV shows, I know, I know) way of life, here is some moodboards inspired by TV shows (although some have since gotten movies which I also took inspiration from... yadda):

Childhood memory galore. I spent many weekends watching The A-Team with the whole family. When the movie came out, I was happy about the feels it gave me (and the “you spin my head right round” scene still cracks me up more often than it should). Either way. I found it absolutely necessary for Jaime to be Face, for Tyrion to be Hannibal, for Bronn to be B.A. and cuss at everyone and everything and Brienne giving us the strangest genderbend of a Howling Mad Murdock. It added some angst, which I always need because I am a thirsty hoe for it. In case no one noticed yet. Ha.

This one is very remotely inspired by The Bletchley Circle and the Imitation Game (because both feature encryption and one features Charles Dance already, yo.) I just really dug the idea of Brienne being so good at this because she is such a straight thinker but being underestimated because “she a woman.” And of course her not being done just encoding messages but getting into action, very much to the dismay of the stupid soldier wanting to defend the bae from harm. What could possibly go wrong? Right. A lot.

Then. Elementary. Let me count the ways in which I love that show... ALL THE WAYS. And I really dig it as a JB AU. I have so many thoughts and feelings, I can’t even begin to tell you. I especially had my fun basically making Jaime Sherlock without making him really Sherlock because that guy was the one who taught him how to be an investigator before disappearing and fucking up his life for bad. And Brienne as the army doctor turned sober companion turned private investigator turned love interest is just too delicious to ignore.

Pants down I mean hands down, this may be the actual favorite (currently) amongst them all for the plain reason that I also grew up watching that series and still watch it and keep obsessing about it. Ever since Discovery launched and has since given me both joy and grief, I found myself intrigued by the premise of a JB Star Trek AU where Brienne would be standing *with* the Klingons during the war around the time Discovery takes place, and Captain Jaime Lannister having lost far too much to this war already to truly trust anyone, even less so a woman who ran to the Klingons, for what it seems.

You would not believe how many ideas I have for a fic based on it. You wouldn’t believe that I basically have a sequel to that fic already in mind. And you would definitely believe, knowing me, that I am nowhere near writing that fic. But a fangirl can dream and moodboard, right? The moodboard was such a fun way of going about it, not only for the edits but because I could sneak some secret Klingon messages in there. :)

Now, on to the last part, which are the moodboards not inspired by movies or TV shows primarily but really just spewed out of my wacky, wacky brain:

This has a special place in my heart because it combines military and the traumas it comes with for JB and.... the aesthetic of farming. And both finding a kind of peace they didn’t know they were looking for as they struggle to adjust and find their way back “to normal” after the horrors they have both seen in war. And did I mention the aesthetic? And Jaime in plaid? All dirty and sweaty? Do I have to say more?

Why this one? Because it combines angst and romance and falling in love twice because DESTINY. And paintings. I love me my artist AUs. So that was my go at it, combining it with the “mystery” to be uncovered about what history Jaime and Brienne actually share as he tries to put his memories back together. Also. This moodboard gave me opportunity to try out new filters and create JB paintings. :)

This one’s gotta be on the list since I also added the Horse Whisperer. Now it’s Dog Whisperer Jaime and Brienne who won’t give up on her dog who’s seen some shit in the warzone (as did she, but Brienne will put it all aside for her doggish best buddy, of course). While it’s not a very popular moodboard of mine, I really enjoy the premise of it and how the dynamics can so easily change between the two of them if you see it in comparison to the Horse Whisperer AU. Also. I just really think Jaime is a total pet person.

Another lesser known moodboard, I’d assume, but I really dug the premise of it (still do), and it was intriguing to do some edits to make Jaime’s hand *truly* golden lol. With people having developed strange mutations which aren’t nearly as much fun as they are in Fantastic Four AUs. What I liked about it was the idea that Brienne would have a kind of mutation/ability that links to the mind, since she is such a physically strong fighter that she may rather rely on that than on her own mind, fearing that she cannot control that with discipline the same way she can train her body with it. What unites the two is their strong wish to protect the people in their care, in a world on the verge of collapse forcing two unexpected allies together (okay, I totally expected it, but they didn’t). Either way. Much love for this one. :)

Aaaand the last one (not of all the ones I made but the ones I picked for Gwenspiration). I really, really, really adore this one because I was so happy with how the aesthetic turned out and how the colors all match. And I dig the premise. Like holy moly do I dig it deep. Jaime and Brienne both serving in military, but on different fronts, and almost accidentally ending up writing each other letters? I mean... the PINING. And Brienne having to decipher Jaime’s chickenscratch. Yeah no, but for real. I just love the idea so much. That they are both committed to the cause while also yearning for a home, for peaceful times, for sweet, sweet love. And them meeting up and acting like stupid teenagers, only for drama to keep hitting because. It’s eh me angsty Wacky.

Either way. I dig the premises of a lot of my moodboards (in fact... basically all of them or else I wouldn’t be making them, I guess). I spared you listing all of them, though I listed a whole damn lot already. Moodboards are an awesome means for me personally to visualize and (re-)imagine. And since quite a few people seem to continue to be onboard with them, I am all the happier to keep making them.
