wanted to try something new with my art, and i felt like getting back into pixel art again after not doing it for a long time, so here you go, have a pixelized version of the fnaf hidden hands au cast! (henry and charlie being 1983 versions, and william and michael being around 1987). i'm quite rusty, but it's nice getting back into the groove of it. i doubt any of these are actually color accurate though but hey I tried (i just eye-balled everything). expect me to use these sprites for something in the future, so this won't be the last time you guys would see them again, and tbh it's very fun drawing in this style as well! :D hope you guys won't mind the less frequent posting because as usual, irl and university stuff is just kicking me to the ground (RIP my sanity). also, thank you for the 600+ followers?? you guys are INSANELY supportive oh my god. it means the world to me </3

Jason is my blorbo, my favorite, wretched, little guy and I love him so much. And I love all your posts about him! SO tired of people watering down his character, especially at the expense of other characters. Namely Dick and Tim. I know you're probably tired of talking about J so no hard feelings if you ignore this but I'd love to hear your thoughts and Dick and Jason's relationship. Past, present and where you'd like to see it go in the future. If anywhere. (Also your art is so, so good!! I especially love how you do faces and your coloring)
i actually really enjoy unpacking their relationship. it makes me think about that quote from diary of a wimpy kid - "you're my brother, but you'll never be my friend." idk how they should be written in the future because i think jason needs to be removed from gotham until he grows his personality back, but here's my thoughts on their brains -
from jason's end, there's so much resentment. a large part of his post-resurrection motivations come from the idea that bruce has dishonoured his memory and failed to grieve him, because bruce won't let him or anyone else kill the joker and therefore bruce doesn't love him. bruce rejects his manifesto for fixing gotham, bruce rejects his violence, bruce rejects his politics. would bruce have rejected dick if dick had done this? in jason's mind - no. dick grayson has shackled himself to bruce and is drowning with him. jason does not see that he has also chained himself to bruce and thrown away the key.
it's also worth mentioning that in outsiders 2003 and batman and robin 2009 (when written by winick), jason still fundamentally respects dick's abilities and experience. he think he's weak because he tries to suppress his anger, but i don't think jason would carry that same heavy, debilitating misery from seeing tim or cass or damian - people he was denied knowing by dying, and thus "replaced" by. jason, in some capacity, values dick as an ally. he trusts that dick, for all his flaws, is not a vengeful person (and i'll get to that).
there's a degree of what if there too - both dick and jason lived through a very specific period of bruce's life, which is the period before jason was killed. no one else (aside from babs and alfred) knows what that was like. no one else understands bruce, in that way. they have seen him before that grief in a way no one else who followed can. they're both poor kids brought into wealth. dick transcended into a legacy, and was then discarded. jason was, unconsciously, a tangible replacement for dick (and for robin), but died before bruce had the chance to leave him behind.
by comparison, we see dick reach out to jason, consistently. i'd say that unlike bruce, dick is a pragmatist. he frequently works with murderers. he ran the outsiders. he has, and will continue to, make calls that will questionably result in someone's death. to be clear, that is not the same thing as being a murderer - i think the guilt of that comes very close to killing him - but while he's an inherently optimistic person, i'd say he has realistic expectations for people's behaviour. it's what makes him so efficient as a tactician.
they're also very similar - they respond differently to anger, but they are both explosive. dick doesn't seek retribution on his own behalf, but he will lose control for the people he loves (which includes jason!). going to bat (haha) for jason, and jason then hurting the people he protects (tim, damian, the titans, etc), that's a line jason's crossed. dick won't ever stop swinging out to grab him, because he'll never let anyone fall, but that does not mean he'll be kind when they reach the ground

Of fandom, age, and David Tennant being our own personal Time Lord
I read the fantastic post that @davidtennantgenderenvy wrote about David Tennant and aging (if you haven’t yet read it, go for it!) and, as a fan who is closer to DT's age range than to what seems to be the rest of the fan base's age (yeah, being well over 40 is A THING), I had an interesting mix of ideas and emotions. I was going to just reblog her post with some of these musings, but when this started getting longer (and I started searching for bibliography, ha), I decided that I was not going to hijack her post, but rather cite it (and reblog it on its own right, really, read it). I should say that this is a long essay, and it comes peppered with references to one of my preferred fields of study (but I make it light and fun, promise).
Becoming an “old geek”
The first time I came into the idea was when I found a thirst TikTok with that very nice audio that goes “I think I need someone older…” and clearly, the thirst was there, but also… David is 8 years older than me, and when you are 45, thirsting over someone who is 53 doesn’t feel as “edgy” (and thinking about “needing someone older” starts verging on thirsting over people well over 65, which is absolutely fine, but a very different category over all for the rest of TikTok). So yeah, it was weird. You see someone who you feel is "in your range" and everyone is calling them "old"… And you start thinking about aging, inevitably.
Of course, I "don't feel old", but most of my friends are younger than me, and I'm the oldest person in many of my "fun activities". Take, for example, my lightsaber combat team, where every sponsorship is pitched to people under 30, and you should be training at least twice a week and following a strict diet to reach the expected “competitive or exhibition” level (enter the “old lady” who is taking this training just for fun, who needs to take care of her joints and who is not going to be invested in becoming Jedi Master General or anything of the sorts in the near future). Or we can talk about the expectation about fandom in general being a “teenage phase”, and thinking about everyone who still is into it actively after certain age as “immature” or “quirky” at best (hi, mom! Hi, work colleagues! Hi, students!).
Society, aging and social constructs
Of course, this has a lot to do with societal expectations. For almost 80 years, popular culture has been built around "youth" and "young people": before rock & roll, most things (music, clothes, movies, art in general) were targeted to “adults”, and you were expected to be “a functional adult” since a younger age. There was a seismic shift in the way popular culture was built when consumer culture decided to see and cater young people: trends became shorter, being “hip” was desirable, staying younger for a longer period was a nice aspiration (a good, light reading to get a deeper view around this is “Hit Makers” by Derek Thompson. It is written for marketers, but that makes it an easy historic overview and I like that). This has a lot to do with the change of our view about old people, too: while being old 100 years ago (yup, 1924 still fits the bill) made you “a respected elder” and you were expected to be wise, to know best, to be the voice of reason and an expert, nowadays not even us older people like being seen as “old” or “older”.
Frequently, culture becomes entrenched in binary oppositions. The binary opposition between “young” and “old” is… well, old! And while the opposition is sustained, the meanings around it change over time (that’s what the past paragraph was about, really). If in the 1940’s being old meant “mature, respectable, wise, responsible” and being young meant “inexperienced, immature, foolish”, after the 1950’s those meanings shifted a lot: being young became “fun, interesting, in the now and in the know, attractive”, while being old was about being “boring, dusty, passé, uninteresting, dull”.
In reality, being young can be a mix of all of these things (inexperienced and fun and foolish and attractive), and being old can be, at the same time, being responsible and wise and a little dusty and dull, because that’s life *shrugs*, and the wonder of lived experience is that, even if we simplify it, it is complex and rich and sometimes contradictory in itself: we can be old and foolish and interesting and boring, or young and dull and inexperienced and attractive. But, as we need to make “social sense” of things, simplifying them is… easier. That’s why we build stereotypes, and why we use them! We need to have a “base” of signifiers to build upon, so we usually take what we have on our environment and run with it. If you find this idea interesting, welcome to the world of cultural semiotics! *takes her Iuri Lotman picture out of her pocket and puts it on the desk*
Tumblr media
(Iuri Lotman, people. He is my "patron saint").
Pop culture versus “real culture”
Another cultural opposition that piques my interest in this area is the notion of “pop culture”, of course. It is opposed to “real, serious culture”, the sort of thing that everyone expects "older, mature people" to enjoy. In the sixties and seventies, there were a lot of studies and writing about "high brow" and "low brow" culture, trying to keep this distinction between "things that make you familiar with the now, but have no intrinsic value" and "eternal things that cultivate your mind, soul and spirit".
Evidently, if you ask me, this is a whole load of horse manure: probably useful to fertilize other things, but with little intrinsic value on its own. My main point is not dolphins, but the idea of culture: historically, it has used to mean a lot of things; from the notion of (exactly) fertilizing something and making it grow to make it come to fruition, to the hodgepodge of practices that a social group creates when they are together and are trying to make common sense of things.
I like the latter better (that is the one I’d ascribe to if this was The Academia TM, but this is tumblr!), but another popular definition, which comes from the Illustration and has been quite prevalent, is the notion of culture as the set of cultural practices that make you a better, more intelligent, far more educated person. For example: if you want to have real culture, you have to read Shakespeare and know what a iambic pentameter is, rather than watching “10 Things I Hate About You”. You must read real books, not listen to audiobooks, and “real books” should be written by “serious authors” like (insert old white Western European or American cis men, preferably born before 1960).
Here comes the notion of “cultural canon”, grinning widely. Yup, that set of practices becomes an expectation of what and how you should experience any area of the human experience, and they become a sort of “nucleus” of the whole experience, with people playing “defense” around them and culture shifting all around and sometimes across them. This is not exclusive to “high culture”: Have you ever heard about “gatekeeping”? Yeah, same fenomenomenon (Shadwell, of course). Whenever something gets this “shape”, it becomes a “norm”, the “common” thing, the “rule” if you participate in that set of cultural practices.
As every cultural set of practices tends to generate its own “canon”, they also have a lot of practices surrounding it, which are ever changing, shifting, learning from new and old practices, and redefining what everything means in their common/shared space. For example: Neil Gaiman, my beloved, was part of the “comics” frontier when Sandman first appeared, but as he and Alan Moore (yeah, I know he did it first, but Gaiman is my study focus right now, so let me be) and other very talented and interesting people started creating fascinating stuff that hadn’t been done, and they found people who loved it, they not only redefined the world of comics, but became part of the new canon themselves. And then, Neil’s presence in the world of literature and fantasy became widespread and recognized and then revered… And then he is doing it again by adapting his own work to a streaming platform in a serialized way… I hope this explains why I’m growing an obsession with studying Neil Gaiman as an author who crosses through different media: a transmedial auteur, an anomaly in his own right. But that is not an essay for tumblr, but a thesis, one that I don’t know if I’d ever have the time or mental resources to write (being a runaway ex academic with ADHD who works on their own is hard, people). Besides, this was about aging and David Tennant, so let’s cut this tangent short and start talking about our Time Lord and Savior: David Tennant, the king of frontiers.
David Tennant as a Frontier Lord
David Tennant is another fascinating case in this sense, mostly because he is an actor who has been able to build a whole very impressive career through crossing symbolic frontiers. Through his massive filmography (161 roles just for screens, as registered in IMDb) and his stage career (I love this gifset for this exact reason), he has acted his way through almost everything, from classical Shakespeare to improvisational comedy, from procedural police drama to wacky fantasy sci-fi. This has a lot to do with his personality (he loves acting, he decided to pursue acting as a career thanks to his love for Doctor Who, but he is also smart and inquisitive) but, as it happens with a lot of “frontier figures”, it also has a lot to do with “unpredictable” circumstances: less of a strategy, more of an instinct.
David has talked many times about how his impostor syndrome made him feel, for the longest time, that he had to keep accepting roles, because you never know if there is going to be another one after. He is talented and open and curious (this is quite a good interview about his perspective), but this… anxiety? meant that he had also lower quandaries about saying “yes” to roles and projects that were “less consistent” with a typecast (which has been, for the longest time, one of the main strategies to build an acting career). Yeah, he has some defining characteristics that make a role “tennantish” (I’m not starting that tirade here, but yeah, you know that almost fixed set of quirks and bits), but he has also worked his way through many different genres, budgets, styles and complexities. And he has usually been as committed and as professional in a big budget-high stakes-great script sort of situation, as he has been in a highly chaotic-let’s see what sticks-small scale project.
That can be correlated by the way he talks about “acting advice”. “Be on time, learn your lines, treat everyone the same, never skip the lunch queue”… Acting is a job, and he treats it as such. Yeah, he looks for interesting projects anytime he can, but the “down to earth” attitude about it is, once again, not-usual, not-common: pure frontier. Then, when David talks about his own self (specially at a young age), he is pretty clear about his “outsider” or “uncool” status (this interview is fantastic), and how strangely disruptive it was to become not only recognizable, but cool and sexy and… everything else, thanks to Doctor Who. He went from living in the frontier to being put in the canon, but he is still, at heart, a person who is more comfortable not defining himself by that “expected” set of rules.
Him being a very private person, who insists on having a family life that seems, form this distance, stable, loving and absolutely un-showbiz just makes the deal (and the parasocial love and respect) easier to sustain; as does his openness to talk about social and political issues that interest him (passionately, again; against the norm for “well liked celebrity”, again). His colleagues also talk wonders about him, mostly because he is this sort of down-to-earth but also passionate about his craft and easy to work with. Again: not the “norm”, not the “rule” of being such a celebrity.
Many of his fans (should I say that I’m one? Or is it obvious at this point?) find this not only endearing, but comforting: he is a massive star, who has acted in a lot of terrific roles in huge productions… But he feels, at heart, as “one of us”. But he is, also, a well-respected thespian, a Shakespearian powerhouse, an international talent. He lives in a very authentic, but very unstereotipical frontier. And he seems happy about that and has made a career from it. Extensive kudos and all the parasocial love and the amateur-actress mad respect for that.
I should mention, just in passing, that a “natural” archetype for this characters that traverse frontiers… are tricksters. Think again about the “tennantish” characteristics. Here goes another essay I’m not writing right now.
Aging: The Next Frontier
This takes me to the original post that inspired the essay: living in a culture where the “norm” is “being young and famous is a desirable aspiration”, we have a fantastic actor, at peak of his craft, who is in the heart of middle age (past 50, nearing 55). Not only that, but he is an actor with whom at least a couple of generations have grown older: from the ones who feel him as “our contemporary” to the ones who grew up looking at him (like Ncuti Gatwa!).
David, being the frontier person he is, has been navigating this transition in a very “unconventional” way: he came back to the role that made him iconic (The Doctor, now with more trauma!), is starring in another fantasy series about middle-aged looking ethereal beings that at times is an adventure thriller, at times is a comedy of errors and at times is a romcom (having another beautiful trickster of a man as his co-star… There goes another tangent that is an essay); he is playing one of the quintessential Shakespeare roles for middle-aged men (Macbeth), and is, seemingly, having a lot of fun doing a lot of voice acting for animation roles (if you haven’t watched Duck Tales, you’re missing a whole lot of fun, really).
Traditionally, middle aged actors navigate that period of their career trying to reinforce their “still young, thus a celebrity” status (for example, doing a lot of action-packed movies and keep doing their own stunts while seducing women 20-30 years younger than them), or strengthening their “prestige thespian, so now a real culture person” position (fighting for more serious roles, going from comedy to drama, or working their way into The Classics©). Sometimes, they face the internalized societal expectation by also becoming a shipwreck in their personal life (yeah… the stereotype of “getting divorced, having an affair with someone half their age, getting another red convertible, getting in trouble…”) because we don’t have a good “map for aging responsibly” yet as a society. We have been so focused on youth, that we have forgotten how to age.
Again, switching to the personal experience. I was raised as a female-shaped person (yeah, being queer is fun), so part of the experience of growing (and then growing old) has been closely related with that concept from the female point of view. I decided, pretty early on (but not so much, probably 25 years ago), that I wasn’t going to conform to the norm… And that included aging naturally. When I found my first white hair, it was a shock (I was 21 or 22), but I had already seen my father fighting his own hair being white since forever. I decided it was a loss of time, money and effort… And the judgement from people in my generation and in the one that preceded me (my mother, my aunts) was stern and strict: “it will age you, and it will date us. You shouldn’t do that”. Men could do it, given the right age (being over 50) but women must not. Same with wrinkles and sagging and gaining weight and getting “pudgy”. But when men grew older, they needed to make a “show off” of their ability to seduce, to “still be a man”. Aging, then, was undesirable by any standard.
As me and my peers have grown older, and my hair has gotten increasingly silver, there have been women that come to me saying that “I look great” and “they wish they were as brave as me”. I would like to state in front of this jury of my peers (hi, tumblr!) that the only bravery it took was deciding, somewhere between my twenties and my thirties, that I wanted to be as myself as I possibly could, so no bravery at all, just the same lack of understanding of social rules that took me to become interested in… you guessed it, cultural semiotics. We’ve come full circle with this. Now, let’s finish talking about what it means for an aging fan to have an aging star to look up to, shall we?
David Tennant as a cultural Time Lord
I am pretty sure that he wouldn’t have chosen this role for himself (as he wouldn’t have chosen being a massive star just by playing his favorite character and being so talented and charming), but he is, as Loki would say, burdened by glorious purpose. Being “the actor of his generation”, and him crossing so many frontiers with such ease and grace, without even thinking about it too hard, just because he is a hard worker and likes to try new things and is just so good at what he does put him in the exact cultural crossroad for it.
He is not in a sudden need to “resignify himself” as anything: he has already shown his very flexible acting muscles through his very long career. He is not bounded to “keep his public image relevant”: he likes to have his personal life clearly separated from the spotlight, and being married to the brilliant and funny Georgia, who herself grew up with a famous father, so she is no stranger to staying sane and in control in the eye of media, and who manages their social media presence with a good mix of humor and well-set boundaries.
Therefore, he is in a moment where he can (and probably will) chose to do whatever he likes. And he has the public support to do so: he is prestigious and respected, but likes to make fun of himself and is not self-important; he has a lot of awards, but he is also a very likable person with whom most people in the industry enjoy working. And he is up to do a lot of things: heroes, villains, morally grey characters; romance, drama, thriller, fantasy, sci-fi, procedurals, historical fiction, classic plays, silly parts, voice acting… We are going to see him aging on screen and stage, with no playbook: the playbooks were written for people that certainly are not him. And I have some evidence to prove it.
He is starring in a groundbreaking series (yeah, Good Omens) where the protagonists are two middle-aged looking entities, full of queer relationships, written by another trickster. This series, in an on itself, is a showcase for characters that are rule breaking in many ways: in the narrative, by being hereditary enemies who are inevitably linked to one another by a loving bond that may or may not be romantic, but that has been in the making for 6,000 years; in representation, by having the protagonists being represented by a couple of middle aged actors who are “not serious” and “not action” coded, in a role where they are delivering romance, banter, intrigue, joy and a whole other range of emotions that are “not your stereotypical” middle-aged male-lead coded.
He also delivered the baton on a relay race with Doctor Who: he came back after almost 20 years, to bring back the generation who grew up watching him in the role, and deliver us into the arms of Ncuti Gatwa’s 15th Doctor, with the promise of taking a rest and working on getting better from all the trauma The Doctor has endured in 20 years Earth-time (which, as any Doctor Who fan knows, account for centuries of trauma in Doctor’s time). Not your usual Doctor Who Anniversary cameo, but one built to deliver some zeitgeisty emotional health promises that made the specials feel… healing. At least, for some of us.
Even when it wasn’t the hit series it deserved to be, his Phileas Fogg in “Around the World in 80 Days” is also a great delivery of an unconventional middle-aged protagonist, who goes from meek and scared and too worried about societal norms, to a lovely, tender, slightly awkward and daring person, with friends half his age who look at him but are also his peers (another kind of relationship that is not very frequent in media).
And, with all fearlessness, he has played a lively old duck in Duck Tales! Scrooge McDuck has never been a middle-aged character: he is, quite openly, an old gentleman. An adventurer, quirky, with a lot of spunk… but also quite clearly an elder to Huey, Dewey and Louie, and obviously older than Donald Duck (who is also not a young adult himself!). When you watch that series, and if you have the opportunity to catch any glimpse of him behind the scenes while recording the part, you can feel the joy he got from playing the part (and he has said time and again that he IS Scrooge McDuck, so it will become his “recurring bit” for the future).
Hopefully, David (and some other actors and actresses, for sure) will dare to build that new “aging publicly without making an arse of myself” playbook, and I (and I can imagine, many other fans in our middle age, but also fans that are right now leaving behind the “young adult” stage and becoming “adults” fair and square, and others who will arrive to this place at a future time in their lives, so I hope) will be there to bear witness, support, cheer… and learn from the model. Because that’s what fandom is about, but also because that’s how culture itself gets shaped and changes, continuously. And that is exciting and a little scary, and that’s why it is better if we do this together.
And I'd love to imagine diverse (in the full sense of the word) role models for this process and this playbook, too!!!
If you read all the way through this, I'm very grateful, take a cookie, have a gold star and suggest names for our aging interestingly role models on the "non-white-male" side of things!
Class dismissed!!

Lore Olympus ep. 255 critique
Boy oh boy.
No remorse and tonal whiplash
We open this chapter with Persephone waking up not dead, total shock in Hades' arms, asking him if what happened was all a bad dream.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When Hades responds that what happened was not all in her head, we as the readers would expect Persephone to react with shock, remorse, something. Nope. Instead, we get this:
Tumblr media
"Oh dear" with the most expressionless face ever. Our empathetic, caring protagonist everyone.
Now maybe I'm being too harsh. However, I feel like most people upon being confronted with the fact that they caused mass destruction would be pretty upset, if not incredibly so. But that's just my 2 cents.
We immediately transition into a party that's being set up for Persephone by all her friends and cohorts. We're then treated to this lovely image:
Tumblr media
Thanks Captain Obvious.
While Hermes and Megaera argue over whether or not carrot cake is good, Thanatos pulls Hecate aside and notes about the massive uptick in incoming deaths which confirms what I said in my last critique post. While initially denying it, Hecate quickly realizes that something is very very wrong and that's when Hades and Persephone burst through the doors. Persephone bursts into tears and we get the most tone-deaf sentence ever:
Tumblr media
Wow. Haha so funny. Comedy. Given the context of what just happened, this attempt at humor fell so flat.
I feel like the first third of this chapter kind of speaks for itself in terms of the writing and art, which is not good. There's just no emotion at all. I get the feeling that we're supposed to feel bad for Persephone and I just... don't. I don't have a whole lot more to say about this portion of the chapter; just that when I read it, I strained my eyeballs from rolling them so hard.
Hades tries not to make everything about himself challenge: Impossible
We transition into the post-party disaster cleanup where Persephone is hiding out in a greenhouse and Hades and Hecate are inside. Hades takes this opportunity to make everything about himself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
First of all, you're not and you're not.
But on a more serious note, this is not the first time we see Hades take a situation that has either nothing or almost nothing to do with him and make it all about himself. In fact, this is something he does frequently throughout the comic. Hades, in my opinion, very much has a "me, me, me, it's all about me" mindset.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
One instance that comes to mind is this scene that happens in early s2 after Persephone opens up about her childhood and AOW. She barely has had time to share and process her traumatic experiences when Hades decides that this is the perfect time to dump 2000 years' worth of pent-up trauma onto a girl he's known for maybe 2 weeks at that point. Yet, he refuses to actively seek help during his time before meeting Persephone and even calls his therapist a hack.
Another instance is when Persephone confronts Hades about ripping out Alex's eye in s1 (when she was still somewhat empathetic to nymphs and whatnot).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hades, when torturing Alex, very quickly shifts from the mentality of "you could've really damaged Persephone's reputation" to "I'm going to punish you because I view Persephone as my property and how dare you do this to me?"
Hades even outright admits it when confronted. He took a situation that had nothing to do with him and completely made it about himself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another instance is when Persephone tells Hades about what Apollo did to her and Hades flies off the handle and makes her trauma about himself. About what he is going to do even though that is not his decision to make.
It baffles me how conceited Hades is despite claiming to care about Persephone. I don't understand how you can look at a person who is going through a hell of a time and think "Let's make this about me". But that's a whole other post for the future
Zeus and Apollo
Skipping to the end of the episode, Apollo calls Hades (with Zeus' phone?) and tells him that he wants to take Persephone off Hades' hands.
Tumblr media
Straight up, I don't like Hades and Persephone either as characters or together as a couple. I think they bring out the worst in each other. But Persephone is not some dog that needs to be rehomed and frankly, the whiplash Rachel is giving her audience in regards to Apollo's character is going to put me in a neck brace for life. She keeps flip-flopping between trying to make Apollo this sad, sympathetic anti-hero and the most egregious villain to walk the earth. You can not be both Zuko and Azula Rachel. You need to pick a lane and stay in it.
Apollo reveals that Zeus is in a coma and Hermes conveniently has the news up and running so we as the audience can be greeted with this:
Tumblr media
"Attempted murder" you say? Of a being that literally can't die? Rachel, do you even know what attempted murder means?
"The defendant took at least one direct (but ineffective) step towards killing another person" and "The defendant intended to kill that person (malice aforethought)" -> California Law and Sentencing
While both of these are true in the fact that Apollo took the steps to kill Zeus and also intended to kill Zeus, they're gods. You can't murder a god. In order for murder to be attempted, or to even happen, the person in question has to be able to die. But then they're a human, not a god.
I feel like a more accurate report would be something along the lines of "Zeus has fallen victim to what seems to be a violent coup that has left him seriously incapacitated." Maybe that's not the best sentence to ever grace the writing scene, but hopefully my point is clear.
Tumblr media
Also, how are people still oblivious to the fact that Apollo is, at the very least, incredibly suspicious right now. I mean his father has just been announced to be "dying" and instead of taking the time to mourn or even appear upset, he immediately slides into the position of power as King of the gods.
This chapter definitely wasn't as bad as 254, but it did make my brain hurt. Merry Christmas Eve and Happy Holidays to those of you who don't celebrate Christmas. See you all soon.

I hope this isn’t rude to ask another artist but… I’m new to the Rise fandom, the only fandom I’ve ever actively tried being a part of. I don’t have much art yet so obviously I dont expect anyone to know I exsist, but I was wondering if there’s a secret to getting people to see your art, even in the beginning. Like how long does it take to get a following? or how often do you need to create for people to consider you worth they’re attention? I keep getting discouraged from posting because I feel like it’s all for nothing, even though at the same time I know it doesn’t happen over night. It especially gets to me when I see people with 10k notes on their first post after getting into the fandom yesterday. I just wanna know if there’s something I’m not doing right or if I’m just being impatient and envious
Don't worry, that's not rude at all! The following is my opinion on the subject and might not apply to everybody! First off, for me personally, I already had a following going on instagram/twitter from my previous comic. It's typically easier to get noticed sooner if you draw fanart because series already have a high following and they are simply more likely to see you! Second, often it's luck. Who reblogged/retweeted/shared your art who might already have a following. Are you drawing something that most of the fandom is interested in? For the Rise fandom it looks like they latch onto a lof of post movie media and apocalypse/bad future timeline media for example! Once you grabbed their attention you don't necessarily post daily/frequently to be able to hold it. Obviously, skill also plays a part in this but I'm a strong defender of good content even if the skills arent fully there yet. (they'll come if you persist anyway)
Last of all (and most important in my opinion, as well as the hardest part for most people I'm sure) Why do you make art? I love making art, it's my passion, my whole being and I would never ever stop drawing because of numbers. I have so much art I could instantly share, boost my following, get more numbers, be able to post more frequently etc. BUT it's for me or close friends! It's not for the world wide web to see. Take internet away and ask yourself if you'd still be drawing? What I want to say is that you shouldn't focus so much on the numbers. Of course, it's encouraging to have all these notifications pop up but it's destroying your self esteem! Keep going because you like making art/creating stories, everything else will come with patience eventually!

the Hatchetfield universe is so big and there are so many delightful characters & stories I wanna make art for that I usually don't do anything bc I'm paralyzed by indecision—hence my discord nickname, the indecisive sniggle 💀—but if I can tiptoe around the whole 'choosing' part that gets me stuck I think I could probably draw a little more frequently, so uh...
would y'all wanna help me test this theory?
I've never really tried taking drawing requests before so idk how this will go, but my asks are open (and anon is on for the super shy folks) so what the hell. let's give it a shot.
Some quick rules/disclaimers under the cut:
if you send a request please be patient & understand that I might not do every one
not every drawing will be completed to the same level of polish—I expect there will be a mix of doodles & sketches & a mayhaps few properly Finished ones if inspiration strikes
let's keep the requests to Hatchetfield for now... I wanna do art for other SK shows (and TCB, and Shipwrecked, and Pulp) so maybe if this goes well I'll take turns going thru requests for the others in the future, idk! we'll see!
...I meant to save this as a draft to post it at not-3-in-the-morning but tumblr was dumb. oh well. i guess if i wake up to stuff in my inbox it'll be a nice start to the day! 😂😅

(putting on reporter hat/j) You mostly post the art you do with pencil but what other mediums do you enjoy using? Were you always drawn to pencils? Also obligatory compliment for your art, i love looking at all these lines ❤️
*ahem*
Thank you so much!! I love seeing your dexdark art on my dash as well! 💖
I honestly think my Thing with making pencil drawings started in high school, when I would bring my sketchbook to school and draw when I got the chance. Then later, I would post whatever fanarts I made to tumblr, or deviantart if we're going back that far. (I still think about DA and get nostalgic, but it's impossible to get a following on there so it's not meant to be :'( ) And people would give my gravity falls, steven universe, etc drawings positive attention, and that gave me motivation to make more.
So that's how the whole "making pencil drawings in my sketchbook, and putting in effort to make them pretty" thing started, but for a long time there, I was still making digital art pretty frequently. I think pencil drawing took over as my dominant medium when I started taking commissions. Because I used to offer digital comms as well as pencil drawing comms, but the traditional stuff was way cheaper, so it's what I did the most. And over time, my standards for my pencil stuff got higher and higher, and now it's like my Thing.
But I think part of the reason it stuck so much is just the convenience? I can take my sketchbook anywhere and draw if I'm out and about.
That being said, I think I should delve into digital stuff again, just because it would be a good change of pace! Digital illustration wise, I use photoshop. I used to do portrait bust thingies (I called them digital paintings). I haven't done that in a long time, and I might enjoy that more than I'd expect. Also, ever since I animated in toon boom, I've been so enamored with using vectors to make lineart. When I made digital lineart in the past, it could be so frustrating at times, how you'd have to redraw the same delicate curve over and over until it looked the way you want. So if I do something digital with lines in the future, I think I'll give the pen tool in photoshop a try.

SOFA TALK ABOUT DOVE OR ILL KILL YOU
Tumblr media
GEHEHE THANK YOU !!!!! glad to appease the other #1 dove fan, who isnt just Me
honestly though i dont even know where to begin. for the uninitiated dove is an oc of mine who ive had since i thiiink 2017 or so, maybe ? he's a knight from the middle ages who has been displaced in time to the distant future (extremely distant, in his case) where he is then " recruited " by a group called T.A.R.G.I.T. to deal with a variety of things, but more often than not freaky sci fi wasteland mutants.
dove is intense and tends to speak or show his emotions very little, lending him a kind of stoic severity in the eyes of others. he is quite cynical and distrustful but still finds himself bound to a kind of protective instinct he can't seem to ever fully shake. he's pretty superstitious and believes very strongly in the concept of fate but can't seem to stop himself from acting out in ways that spite that fact. hes a knight who deeply resents pretty much all authority. and hes morbidly obsessed with his own suffering, as you would kind of expect a guy from the middle ages to be. his favorite animals are bugs and horses, he can do a bunch of bird calls (and more !), and he enjoys reading and crocheting in his spare time
he might honestly be my favorite oc, i mean i tend to cycle through a "favorite" a lot depending but i always do end up coming back to him pretty frequently. i could easily write a full college dissertation's worth of stuff about him but ill show a bit of restraint and not do that, even though its my birthdayyyy
i know i said i wasnt going to make myself fret over these having images but i need ppl who maybe havent seen him to see him so here are some commissions from @abyssalzones and @neptunebeetle cuz i dont wanna post my own art. its old ok. and i need to redesign his armor but im showing it off here cuz these drawings still make it look sick as fuck

Hello! I have I have an update about the state of my comic going into 2024. If you enjoy my comic, thank you so much 💖
More under the cut!
Hello! The year is coming to an end, and as I tend to do at times like this, I find myself looking back on what this year was for me.
It's no secret that this has been one of the worst years for the comic in a long time, and it's not something I'm particularly proud of. It's also no secret that the comic slowing to a crawl is something that has been weighing on me greatly. It's something I feel a lot of regret and guilt over, and though I've said it many times this year, I still think it's important to say again. I'm very sorry that I've been unable to keep up with my comic.
Next month the comic will be reaching its thirteenth anniversary. It's been a long road, and the comic's state through the years has directly reflected my own. When the comic is doing well, I am doing well. When it's not, I am not. I feel this is reflected in both the speed of updates and the quality of the art.
This story is something I've put my heart into, and I want nothing more than to see it through. So, needless to say, the poor output of the comic this year has been a direct result of my own struggles. It's been a very hard year for me, a year I've struggled to stay afloat, and a year I've tried to find myself and who I want to be.
I apologize if this comes off as too dramatic, but I can't help but think about these sort of things at times like this. Thirteen years... that's such a long time. I think I just hope to be understood. No one is more disappointed about the current state of the comic than me.
That said, I don't mean for this to be a sad post. On the contrary, I want it to be an uplifting one. 2023 was a year of struggles for me. A year of soul searching. A year of trying to find meaning. The answer I found was this. I love my comic. I love what I do. I love the people who enjoy my work. I love to share my work with you all, and I don't want to stop. 2023 was a year of struggles, so I'm going to make 2024 a year I can thrive again.
That's what I hope the takeaway of this post will be. I have been unwell, but I'm still determined to keep going. And I'm going to be trying harder than ever to find myself again this upcoming year.
That said, I know that's easier said than done. I don't expect the comic to catch up to speed again overnight. But I'm ready to take those steps. Starting tomorrow, public updates will be resuming. Updates will continue to come first on my Patreon. My goal is to finish at least one page a week. Over time I hope to make that number even bigger. I hope to ease my way into more frequent updates again. These are goals, not promises, but ones I'm going to be trying as hard as I can to meet.
You know what's been really hard? This scene we're on right now is a scene I've been looking forward to since the comic began. We're on the cusp of some big character moments, and it's driving me wild that we've been so close yet so far for so long. I'm excited about what's about to happen, and I truly hope you enjoy what's to come.
Earlier this year I mentioned wanting to change the story medium at some point. This is something I still intend to do, but it won't be happening in the near future. At the very least I plan to finish chapter 6 as it is. Honestly, I really want chapter 7 to continue the comic format as well. Whether or not chapter 7 will be a comic however, I do intend to switch formats once the lycan arc is over. I truly believe this will be a good thing, and it will make finishing the story a lot more realistic. I'm excited for it when it comes, but I don't anticipate it coming just yet.
Also, I spoke before about issues with the hosting for my comic's website. This is something I've been working on behind the scenes, and I have good news in that regard! This issue has been resolved. Thanks to the help of a very kind friend, my website has new hosting and can continue running for the foreseeable future. I'm very relieved and very grateful that things turned out this way. That's one less thing to weigh down my mind.
Once again, thank you so much for all the support you've given me. Thank you for enjoying my work. Thank you for sticking by me for so long. Thank you for giving me a chance even as I've struggled. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for everything. Here's to a better 2024! ♥

★ SOLAR - 23 YEARS OLD - QUEER - AMBIAMOROUS - TAKEN - AUTISTIC - GNC TRANS GUY - WHITE - BRITISH - HE / HIM ★
Hey there! My name's Cody, but I generally tend to go by Solar, Ray or Sunny online. That said, you can call me pretty much whatever you want. I'm not too picky. I'm a hobbyist artist, occasional writer and professional dog who has had the misfortune of being on this here miserable hellsite (do people still call Tumblr that?) since 2014. I was around prior to then, but I didn't make an account until that point. My blog isn't NSFW, but I do sometimes reblog posts with dirty jokes or references to sex. So if you're a minor or a sex-repulsed person? Be wary of that. Want to know more about me or about this blog? You can find more info under the cut! ✌️
The dividers in this post were made by @chocoperrito and you can find them here! ❤
Tumblr media
》 WHAT'S THIS BLOG ABOUT, DOG MAN?
I'm glad you asked! This is my main blog so it's generally just a mish mash of all sorts, anything and everything pertaining to my interests goes here so it's a total free-for-all. That said, you can mostly expect reblogs about queer topics, political and social issues, different media that I like, shitposts and furry art. Lots and lots of furry art. I may occasionally post my own art here and possibly even my own writing in the future if I feel confident enough, but it's rare admittedly.
》 WHAT ARE YOU INTERESTED IN?
I am, in fact, a nuanced human person so you can argue that no matter how many things I tell you that I like? None of this will even come close to conveying the full spectrum of who I am. So do keep that in mind. That said, it doesn't mean I can't at least give you an idea of the things I enjoy so to name a few things offhandedly... I really enjoy art, writing, reading, poetry, photography, filmmaking, animation, cartoons, video games, RPGs, 3D platformers, visual novels, folk punk music, ska music, retro aesthetics, bright colours, primary colours, breakfast foods, thrifting, kitsch, antiques, tacky button-ups, animatronics, toy restoration, early 2000s internet, xenofiction, medieval fantasy, lost media, queer history, TV history, film history, furry history (namely the funny animal era and 2000s era), cooking, horror movies, folklore, cryptids, musicals, storytelling, worldbuilding, history, psychology, archaeology, zoology, etymology and space!
》 WHAT MEDIA DO YOU LIKE?
I like a lot of different media and the ones I actively choose to engage with fluctuates pretty frequently, but currently the ones of note are... Pokémon, Warriors, Watership Down, Animal Crossing, The Lion King, Ginga Nagareboshi Gin, Beastars, The Legend of Zelda, Bugsnax, Banjo Kazooie, Viva Pinata, Spyro, Crash Bandicoot, Sonic The Hedgehog, Zero Escape, Ace Attorney, Another Code, Welcome To Nightvale, Little Shop Of Horrors, Ride The Cyclone, Starkid, Be More Chill, Heathers, Cats, Waitress, In The Heights, Silent Hill, Resident Evil, A Nightmare On Elm Street, Child's Play, The Gregory Horror Show, The Owl House, Steven Universe, Portal, Half Life, TF2, HLVRAI, What We Do In The Shadows, Our Flag Means Death, Interview With The Vampire, Doctor Who, Red Dwarf, Scott Pilgrim, Sam And Max, The Good Place, Gravity Falls, My Little Pony, Night In The Woods, Slay The Princess, Dragon Age, Fable and Good Omens! Hyperfixations are bolded, because like it or not I am neurodivergent and that does affect which of these wretched things will get a stranglehold on my attention at any given time 👍
》 YOU'RE QUEER? WHAT'S THE DEAL THERE?
Sure am! I'm a gender non-conforming trans man. I go by he/him pronouns exclusively and I mostly use stereotypically masculine terms (man, boy, dude, guy, fella, etc) to refer to myself. That said, I've got no intentions of trying to mirror cis men and the latter can and does vary whenever I want it to. I'm a man in the same way Bugs Bunny is a man; Gender is a joke to me, it's malleable and I will use it however I see fit at a moment's notice. I use the labels pansexual and queer pretty interchangeably. Gender doesn't really play a part in who I'm attracted to, it's just kind of a neat bonus more than anything. That said? Overall I'm largely attracted to other queer people! I'm non-monogamous. I use the term ambiamorous to refer to myself because it fits well enough. I can comfortably exist in both monogamous and polyamorous relationships but between the two? Up to now I've found the latter is my preference. Also, I know I don't owe anyone an explanation about my identity. I'm talking about this because I'd like to (queer expression is fun to talk about yippeeee) and not because I feel obligated to. People aren't owed your life story, especially people on the internet ✌️
》 DO YOU HAVE A BYF / DNI?
Yes! You can find it here. I know some people consider these to be pretty superfluous because anyone who most BYF / DNI lists apply to probably won't be the kind of person to be courteous enough to listen to them. That said? I'm aware of that and I don't expect this to stop anyone who doesn't want to be stopped. The reason I have it here is more for the benefit of those who I will inevitably end up sharing spaces with. It's more for their reference so they can make an informed decision on whether they want to follow my blog or not and what's best for their own comfort, based in part on where I stand on certain things and where I'll put my foot down. Think of it less as a foolproof and more as a filter. I can and will still block liberally for my own comfort, whether that's because something on that list seems to apply or just because I don't like someone. The block button exists to be used, I'll curate my own internet experience in whatever way suits me personally and I recommend you do the same 🤷
》 WHAT ABOUT A TAGLIST?
Not yet, but I'm slowly working on it. In the meantime? Here's what you mainly need to know. You can find my talking and general shitposts under solar talks, or my art under dog draws. I do have content warning tags! I try to be conscientious and tag anything that I know is a common trigger for people (blood, gore, bones, bright colours, insects, etc) as and where I can. I format all of my content warning tags as "cw //" and then whatever the content of the post is that needs tagged. So for example, if you don't want to see insects? You can blacklist it on my blog using cw // insects and that should stop you from seeing any creepy crawlies. This same format applies to all of my content warning tags. If there's anything more specific you need tagged? Don't be afraid to let me know. I'm happy to accommodate for you wherever you need; If it's something that triggers you? Then it warrants being taken seriously. No matter how silly or overly specific you may think it'll sound, I'll respect it.
》 WHO'S THE GUY IN YOUR ICON?
That would be my fursona, Circuit! Yes, I am that kind of furry. He is me, I am him, I love showing him off to people so although the art may change? He's usually the face of my online pressence. Here's his current reference sheet that I made for him:
Tumblr media
If you're curious, the art of him I have as my icon currently (as of February 4th 2024) was a commission I got and is drawn by Pawtastic!
》 WOW, YOU TALK A LOT.
Sure do bud. Thank you for noticing! ❤ Want to hear me talk more? Then I have some sideblogs you can check out if you'd like to. fuzzypath is my Warriors sideblog. (active) funky-fella is my Bugsnax sideblog. (semi-active) canid-canon is my writing sideblog. (semi-active) I also have a NSFW sideblog, but respectfully I'm not sharing that here in potential public view of minors and just flat out people I don't want to see it. If for whatever reason you'd like to see that? PM me privately to ask for it and if you're both 18+ (have your age clearly stated somewhere on your blog; if there's nothing I'll assume you'e a minor just to be safe) and someone I trust to see it then I'll most likely give it to you!

so I don't watch itzsubz, but I have some friends who do and they have recently told me about a situation that I think is a good example of how a lot of mcyts continue to not understand proper compensation for artists. to be clear: this is not a callout post. i think that the mistakes made here are understandable and fixable and I just want to spread visibility.
yesterday (11/26) subz announced a competition to design a new channel logo in his discord. he said that the winner would be paid $25.
people might not know this, but 25 dollars is significantly under what would commonly be paid for a commercial use logo. this logo will be used frequently, and subz will be gaining profit using it. the expected cost from a crowdsourced design contest is $130-$700 (source).
again, I am not trying to blame subz or say that he should have known this beforehand. however, there have been previous events in which mcyts underpay artists. as influential figures, I think streamers have a responsibility to make sure they properly compensate those who work for them. creating art takes a lot of dedication which should be rewarded.
someone (who has asked to not be identified) did privately talk to a discord mod of subz, explaining most of what I have said above and suggesting the prize be raised to somewhere from $100-$200. this was the response they got:
Tumblr media
after this, subz did increase the 1st place prize to $50, with a $25 prize for the runner up. however, I still feel like there could have been a better way to go about this (such as raising the price or asking for portfolios to commission from instead of a contest). at the end of the day this is not really my battle or my problem to solve, I just hope that content creators consider how to properly reward their artists in the future :]

Tumblr media
Even though I’ve been an avid reader/consumer of different Frozen-related Tumblr-blogs since Christmas of 2015 (iirc), I never felt the desire to enter the platform as an active user until early summer this year. Until now, my main fandom platforms have been Reddit and Discord and stepping into any new social app is always a big process for me. I want to send a big thank you to my friend Yumeka who recommended me to make a blog of my own! 🤗
I knew right away that I wanted to use this blog not only to make better connections with other Frozen fans but also to make it a place to showcase some projects, works and edits that I’ve produced during my years in the fandom. I also knew I wanted to use it to share insights and observations about lore, trivia and other things that are presented to us both in the official animated releases but also from sources outside of the movies. Something along the lines of a “quote of the day” or “prompt of the day” type of blog, only perhaps not as frequent 😉
When it comes to making little fandom projects of my own I tend to be, how should I phrase it, not amazingly fast or efficient. Very much like a certain Snow Queen, I just want things to be “perfect”. So when it comes to creating new stuff, I usually take plenty of time. However, thanks to having almost 9 years of fandom “experience”, I feel there are a lot of older goodies made by me and other fans that deserve to be revisited and remembered. So you can expect plenty of reblogs of other awesome works by talented people!
This blog will also be something of a trip down memory-lane for myself as I intend to revisit and share my own Frozen memories and experiences.
So, here is what you can expect to see from me:
I will attempt to keep content somewhat categorised, but the exact definitions may be subject to changes in the future.
Showcasing Frozen fan projects Posts that highlight analyses, compilations, lists etc. Both from Arendelle Archives (see below) and other sources (e.g. other Tumblr-users and Reddit).
Arts and edits Deep-dives into both new and old pieces that have inspired me and plenty of self-made edits and cover art!
Frozen observations Presenting lore and trivia from the extended Frozenverse (i.e. movies, shorts plus all other Frozen-content).
Frozen memories Personal stories from the fandom and moments that helped shape me and my “Frozen experience”.
My Frozen library What’s on my bookshelf? Could also include some collector items and non-Frozen things.
Admin stuff Blog updates (like this one) and other content that isn’t exclusive to Frozen including  photos, personal messages, things like that.
In the coming week(s), I will have plenty to do presenting the fan project “Arendelle Archives” which is a reincarnation of a supposed 19th century Arendellian royal institution that recorded and preserved important historical and natural events in the world of Frozen. It was started by my friends Saiten and FrozenHeart with their impressive timeline project “Annals of Frozen” in 2021. More on that later.
Tumblr media
That's it for now! I hope I can contribute more to the fandom on this platform. There are plenty of Frozen observations to be made!
See ya

RECURRING CHARACTERS:
Tumblr media
Mod Text: [example]
Codebreaker uses the pronouns He/It/They, and prefers masculine terms.
Codebreaker is an entity that utilizes code frequently. He often goes into people's code to fix errors and tends to lurk until he is spoken to first- he is shy. He is also fond of puzzles and decoded messages and will gladly attempt to solve them for you.
He’s heavily implied to be a hacker who somehow has access to C&A resources. Probably has contacts within the company or something. 👍
Codebreaker has a habit of putting words he feels are important in bold.
Whenever text is put in green ( example: Hello! [He smiles.] it isn't an influence thing, it's something different :) )
Lore will be revealed gradually, as time goes on. I plan to have a weekly message to be decoded that will drop a random lore fact about him. These might be major clues, or might just be fun facts depending on the week.

Ask Box Rules:
I will ignore certain asks. The OC is an adult, but I as the mod am a minor. Keep that in mind.
I’m fine with most asks but do NOT send nsfw asks. I will not answer them.
If I didn't answer your ask yet, it either made me uncomfortable, I'm planning a better answer, or I forgot. I do struggle with memory, so if you think I forgot, ask.
I prefer no magic anons, solely for lore purposes, sorry. If it's funny I might answer it though.
You're welcome to flirt with Code but don't expect much from it, they're taken.

reading demon slayer: chapter 16 name breakdown
the last chapter of volume 2 has 2 names--how fitting. i don't believe the other demons that tanjirou has fought up to this point have had names, so this is a special occasion!
first we are given the name of the male demon,
矢琶羽
read as やはば. 矢 (や) means arrow, obviously a nod to yahaba's blood demon art. 琶 (は) is mostly found in words relating to the 琵琶 (びわ), which is a type of japanese string instrument. i think the inclusion of this kanji is a reference to the 琵琶法師 (びわほうし) of old. they were street performers, often blind, who played the biwa and recited poetry to make money. they also frequently dressed in buddhist garb.
yahaba isn't blind, per se, since his eyes are usually just on his hands, but he certainly looks the part. and his chunky necklace reminds me of buddhist mala, or prayer beads. many websites say yahaba's necklace is just a pearl necklace. however, i have not found a source to back up that claim, so i think i can speculate here.
i will note that mala usually have 108 beads, and yahaba's necklace is never pictured with more than 10 beads. but sometimes mala can be smaller. these smaller versions typically use factors of 108 as the total number of beads, and a factor of 108 is 12. with this knowledge i believe it is safe to assume that yahaba's necklace is meant to have 12 beads (perhaps plus one more, the mother bead) and the remaining beads are simply not drawn because they are obscured by his neck.
a 12-bead necklace would also be symbolic of the twelve demon moons, of which yahaba and susamaru claim to be members. if there is indeed a 13th mother bead, that could symbolise kibutsuji himself, as the father of all demons. but i digress.
the third character in yahaba's name, 羽 (ば), can mean feather or wing. it is also used as a counter for certain small animals (e.g. birds and rabbits). when paired with 矢, as in 矢羽 (やばね), we get a word meaning arrow feathers. this is probably the reference the author intended to make.
unfortunately yahaba's name doesn't make a neat sentence or phrase, but it does convey his powers and has a historical reference, so that's cool too.
after yahaba, we are given the name of the female demon,
朱紗丸
read as すさまる. you might already recognize the third kanji, but hold on! we'll get there in a minute. the first character 朱 (す) generally means red. it can specifically refer to a cinnabar, vermilion, or scarlet color. susamaru's orange eyes, kimono, and red-orange tipped hair reflect this part of her name.
紗 (さ) means silk gauze, and shows up in words regarding delicate fabrics like silk or gauze. it is also used as ateji in words about thicker fabrics like felt, chintz, and wool. 丸 (まる) means circle. if you recognized it from the start, nice! traditional temari are said to be made of fabric scraps from kimono and other household items, so a temari could be thought of as a fabric ball--a 紗丸.
that means susamaru's name is literally scarlet fabric ball. and i mean, her temari do have red on them. her and yahaba's names are very similar in that they both allude to their powers and parts of their designs. i expect we'll see this pattern repeated in the naming of future demons, but i may be surprised.
i believe that's all for this chapter's name breakdown! i especially enjoyed researching and writing the part about yahaba's necklace. i hope you did too. thanks for reading, and please look forward to the next posts! 読んでくれてありがとう!次の投稿を楽しみにしてください!
