Fantastic Edo-komon kimono created by national treasure Rokutani Baiken, with an allegory pattern for "Peace" showing doves flying above people and buildings.

Edo komon is a type of kimono with itty-bitty-small patterns. Those are set on fabric using Ise-katagami (paper stencils, made waterproof with persimmon juice) and nori (paste/glue made from glutinous rice or wheat flour), and fabric is then dyed before washing the glue away.

Another pigeon, but domesticated and stunning, the archangel pigeon!

The archangel pigeon (Columba livia domestica) is a breed of domesticated pigeon in the "fancy" category, and one of the ones that are actually morally okay. Their plumage is striking: Black wings with green iridescence, and brown plumage pretty much everywhere else, with signature iridescence on the crop/neck which is pink colored! (However, it may vary. This is just the most popular variant, we believe) All domesticated pigeons, and fancy breeds for that matter all come from the very not domesticated bird, the rock dove, and eventually, the domesticated pigeons from older times became feral pigeons.

This amazing silver pigeon is Ghost, BFFs with Macchi2 (the dark one with white flight feathers. Coo's son).

They all keep dirtying up the glass with splashing, and she's still getting used to me, so I can't get a photo of her with the window open yet. What's the actual aviculture name for her colouring?

Edit: I've been told she's a "blue grizzle"!

So, Dove soap and Lizzo are endorsing KOSA, in the name of "social media is bad for teens' self-esteem" (even though that's bullshit) and I am mad.

If you don't know, long story short KOSA is a bill that's ostensibly one of those "Protect the Children" bills, but what it's actually going to do is more or less require you to scan your fucking face every time you want to go on a website; or give away similarly privacy-violating information like your drivers' license or credit card info.

Either that or force them to censor anything that could even remotely be considered not "kid friendly." Not to mention fundies are openly saying they're gonna use this to hurt trans kids. Which is, uh, real fucking bad.

Given that in terms of their actual products they don't have a direct stake in it, it might be possible to get Dove to rescind this (can't find contact info for Lizzo sadly), if you want to contact Dove about this, here's their contact page.

And, as per usual, I urge you to contact your congresscritters, especially given that as of now (Thursday, 4/13/2023) they plan to re-introduce the bill this Monday, and we're going to need a flood of people saying this is awful to kill it.
