Jace’s Mission - S2 potentials...
I’m intrigued as to how they will play Jeyne Arryn and Cregan Stark but I hope:
Spoilers for Fire and Blood....
I hope they stick with the feminist and family angle with Jeyne and keep her lesbian status - GRRM has a few really awesome lesbians and bi ladies and three of them are in this story. I wouldn’t mind Jeyne toying and testing Jace but I’d loathe the Mushroom version of this interaction. I’d like there to be an initial coolness which thaws out to both encounters (Jeyne and Cregan with Jace), which show his diplomacy and warmth. Harry has this, although I’d like the script to start giving him opportunities to show it.
I want the news of Storm’s End to reach the Eyrie just after Jace leaves and show us Jeyne’s face turning haggard. I want Jace to stay ahead of it as dragons are faster than ravens. He reaches Winterfell, dealing with autumn snows and initially has difficulty adjusting to the legendary Northern grimness. Cregan intends to honour his father’s vows I think but he wants to test this princeling’s character. There’s a lot to consider, it means war and Winter is almost there and he has to prepare. The North doesn’t favour a woman ruling but Cregan himself almost had his lordship usurped and Jace reminds him of his beloved dead younger brother.
Not sure how the possible ‘Sara Snow’ element mentioned by Mushroom could fit in. Initially I loved it when I first read Fire and Blood years as it fit into the Lyanna/Rheagar ‘Prince that was Promised’ thing which I was obsessed with and the deal that Cregan and Jace make is literally called ‘The Pact of Ice and Fire’. When the title of the entire series gets name-dropped you know it’s significant. The problem is D & D so thoroughly ruined that for me with S 7 & 8 of GOT I get edgy just thinking about it. There’s a lot of hints in the Winterfell section that could point to the larger mythos - Vermax’s eggs, the namedrop itself, the parallels to Rhaegar and Lyanna which weren’t just at times coded as romantic but also laden with prophecy. I also really see this as the place HBO could lean heavily into retconning S8 and setting up the Jon Snow sequel, they’ve been laying the ground-work with Aegon’s dagger and prophecy. The issue is I really hate that because of said issue with S8 and also because it changed some of the character dynamics of Rhaenyra, Alicent, Viserys and Daemon. Hmm I’m in two minds, I *want* to love it if they can make it work but given some of the missteps I’m not sure.
I love the idea of Sara because who doesn’t love a prince falling in love with a feisty Northern ‘wolf girl’ and I love the whole fire and ice opposites but I’ve really grown to like Baela or at least her potential and I don’t want to see her side-lined and undermined yet again. So...we’ll see.
Whatever happens to be honest I just really want to see Jace and Cregan becoming unexpected bros. When Jace is really alone, under the burden of duty, at the end of the earth in the North amongst these grim Northmen he suddenly finds a confidante - someone who can be the older brother to him the way he’s always been to the rest of his siblings, who knows the pressure of birthright, duty and the secret fears of not being enough but having to do it anyway.
Then the raven comes...Jace is just being accepted by his bannermen as Cregan walks down the steps, his face grimmer than Winter. Jace feels the ice settle in his stomach. Wordlessly the Lord of Winterfell motions him to follow so he can have privacy when the news hits him as it hit Cregan before. But Jace demands the scroll. He reads it and screams. Vermax screams with him. He beats the wall and bloodies his hand. The Northern lords are aghast. Can it be his mother? What happened?
The prince raves that he has to go, he has to reach his dragon and go now and kill Aemond One-Eye who’s killed his baby brother. Cregan grabs him and calms him, telling him he didn’t come all the way here for nothing and a storm is on its way as snow flies past the windows.
The whole thing comes out - Lucerys - a innocent boy and nephew of Aemond, under oath as an envoy - brutally murdered in the skies above Storm’s End. He’d been hounded out of Guest Right in Lord Boros’s hall. If the Northerners weren’t for Jace and Rhaenyra beforehand, they are to a man now. Cregan pledges his sword and the North for Jacaerys and his mother - the Dragon Queen and the whole hall rings with the shouts as only Winterfell can.
In his moment of greatest anguish and guilt Jace wins the frozen North and finds fellowship and brotherhood where he least expected it.
I really hope they develop that angle fully as it’s the heart of the Starks and the Targaryrens that I love and it’s that bond of brotherhood that Cregan and Roddy take with them long afterwards.

The concept of this feral child with pink h.ello kitty combat platform boots. After the play is over tackling some senior from the football team who was talking shit. Like he was totally ready to peacefully head to the car with his parents to wait for his twin and then just is like narrow visions on this jock he knows is a major problem for nate/is saying homophobic shit.
Even when it’s broken up Xav is just like : ) unable to stop, help himself (even though does feel bad etc) 100% an smug brat who also winks at the guy to really add to the experience

Hi hi! I'm sure you have loads of asks to get through. But if you may, we talk a lot about Chilchuck and Marcille (as we should 'cause they're great!), but since you've mentioned that Laios is your fave char, I would love to hear if you have any takes on Laios and Izutsumi's dynamic. I feel sometimes like she doesn't really like him...? It's funny but I also feel bad for him sometimes. ^^;;
You can’t ask me this and expect me to not drop everything else I’m doing. Little did you know they are my brotp. They are so special. Izutsumi gets along more with literally everyone in the party, but their relationship was so narratively important. They’re a really underrated and overlooked dynamic! I’ve had them as a topic at the back of my mind for a while, seeing someone else interested was all the push I needed gdbdg. This isn’t super long though, their issues with each other and lil arc is surprisingly brief and easy to summarize.
Laios & Izutsumi : what’s their deal with each other
For me one foundational train of thought for Izutsumi & Laios is, well. I read this awesome smart post deconstructing how Izutsumi’s beef with Laios is because she only just broke free and wants freedom without having someone ordering her around, and that’s sort of her whole character arc, isn’t it?
Isn’t Izutsumi’s picky eating a reflection of just that? In a life where she was a slave, she could at least control what she chose to eat and not eat. But then you might wonder, why did the narrative want her to grow out of that? Simply put, Izutsumi has a contrarian streak, one that is often extremely counterproductive. We saw that especially near the beginning, with how hard it was to make her work with them as a team. The issue is that now that she is free, she needs to not block out others by habit, to not lash out and refuse the healthy things in life, the people who want good for her. And that’s something that’s addressed in the succubus chapter as well as the fight against the ice golem, that she shouldn’t insist that she can do everything alone and fight against any team effort.
I love how onesided the Laios izutsumi dynamic is. He stays away from her generally, like doesn’t interact much, but he wants the cat pats… Which Izu made clear she did NOT want. And Chil is the only one in the party to not really see her as a cat for most of the story really, as shown in the relationship chart. He’s well meaning and wants the best for her, but he crowds her and doesn’t understand her at all. But he reallyyy wants to get along with her.
On the other hand, Izutsumi’s very existence and identity gave Laios an immense amount of hope that Falin could be brought back and still be herself and live well, even if she still had part of a dragon’s soul in her. I think that’s a lovely way to contrast the way that Izutsumi hates herself as a beastkin and her body, while Laios is like "Thank you, your existence as you are is the answer to all my worries" AND he super likes monster bodies and beastkins so it’s like. I think part of her hostility to him, besides feeling like he doesn’t understand her perspective and is maybe dismissive of what his party members want (which would remind her of Maizuru to some degree probably), is that he says all these good things about her being a beastkin, and it’s so jarring with her own version of herself that it raises her hackles and she reacts negatively, especially with how flippant and eager he is about it.
But yes like, this is their first meeting!! Beyond his interest in her as a beastkin because of his monster hobby, Laios is just so very grateful for her and chooses to put his trust in her.
That’s interesting too, how one of the first things she asks about upon meeting them is why the hell they would want to rescue Falin even if she were to stay as a chimera-beastkin and still have the dragon soul in her. It’s her asking "Who would want to stick with a beastkin?" thinking that there’s something fundamentally wrong with having two souls and it making you unlovable.
And their differing views on monsters do make them clash
But ultimately he chills out about her, which ironically enough shows in the way that they don’t interact much- He gives her space, and accepts that the beastkin may not like him. BUT at the end of the day they have an incredible bond of trust-
Laios asks Izutsumi to kill him if something goes wrong with the Winged Lion. Not only is that sort of an intimate request and act, but that means that he leaves it up to Izutsumi’s judgement as well to know if it went wrong and when to act. He doesn’t only trust her skills but also her decision making, despite how tough they’ve been on each other in the past. He’s giving her the ultimate role, the go ahead to make or break their plan and be the difference between saving or destroying the world.
And the last tidbit of info we get on their relationship in canon is when she hides behind him because she’s shy- Certified having befriended the cat moment. She trusts him and sees him as a safe person! And by saying that she’s shy, he’s showing that he did end up understanding her and how she is.
No matter the rocky parts of their relationship, they still have a strong foundation to it and were great allies and road companions, one of the few persons that had each other’s back when it mattered the most, both for the world and for their personal arcs. And post-canon, well…
He’s accepted that she needs space and whatnot, and meanwhile she’s accepted his interest in monsters and taken it in stride 😌 They end up having this familiarity with each other and even if there’s still a bunch of emotional distance imo and they never really got into the nitty gritty with each other not like her with Chilchuck or even Marcille, they see each other. They nod in greeting and respect each other from afar……. But also still tease and chat familiarly up close and if she offers him the opportunity for cuddles he will take it. You know, if it’s not her just falling onto him because she’s sleeping she has no respect.
Siblings behavior… If you know my take on the general party dynamics, I love thinking of Laios & Izu’s dynamic as him being an older brother figure where they have a love-hate relationship. Siblings rivalry. I have a bunch of funny little doodles I’ve wanted to make with them for months, the prompts for which are in the screenshot put below.
But yeah like you know, they’re protective of each other but in that very critical way as well, truly forged by being stuck with each other for a while and having to come to understand and accept how the other is. Strife with conflict, but ultimately sticking with each other through thick and thin… Siblings siblings SIBLINGS SIBLINGS SIBLINGS. Sigh I just want them to cuddle on a couch and she purrs while simultaneously being snide and mean to him, they are so… Izutsumi is the character ever
Oh, which! While I’m here, I always recommend this fanfic about the two of them interacting and Laios treating her like a cat, it’s just fun and lighthearted. They’re suuuuch an underrated duo
If I find more Laios & Izu moments I think are worth sharing I’ll just add it onto this I think. We shouldn’t be too hard on him he was raised by dogs so cats are a whole other language to him but also, so wild to me that he never tried to engage with her on a cat level properly like where is the hissing at the catgirl and the cat taming moments, he sucks at socializing with cats smh smh.
I want to do an analysis of queerness in Dungeon Meshi with relationships and social norms and stuff and Izutsumi’s arc is gonna be central to that too. Her relationship with EVERYONE is SOOO GOOD AND IMPORTANT AND COMPELLING. But I guess this is where I leave it off for now, I hope I’m not forgetting any point I wanted to make hmmm

ATSUSHI HERE WE GO THANK YOU FOR HEARING MY PRAYERS
Favorite thing about them:
HIS SELFISHNESS. It's so so delicious to explore. Can you imagine a protagonist that saves others not out of simple good will, but because of egoistic self-preservation motives? It just feels counterintuitive for me lmao, and I found it quite messed up when I first watched the anime, but now it's so compelling to explore. His whole “everything I do is in order to gain the right to live” is crazy fashinating. Because lol, that's entirely nonsensical to me! There's no such thing as “gaining the right to live”; all humans, every person in the world is inherently deserving of life. All. No exception. So there's no level of “weak” or “worthless” that would make you lose that right. The fact that's it's a vision so distant and absurd from mine, idk, it just makes it very compelling to explore? “What if there was a little fucked up guy who believed the right to live had to be earned” just sounds like a very interesting premise.
Least favorite thing about them:
When I first watched the anime, I think I found him low-key annoying? I just... Don't do very well with self-deprecating people and people who complain a lot in general, I usually suffer in silence and tend to (wrongly) assume others should do the same (this probably makes me sound pretty mean, I swear I try to be understanding irl). However, it doesn't bother me as much anymore, I simply think it's more of a distinctive trait of the character that makes him multilayered and unique.
As of now, I can't think of anything I don't like about him if not the fact that I wish he'd rely on Dazai and others in general a little less. I know that has to do with his lack of self-worth, so maybe it makes sense,, but as of now he feels kind of stuck. I just wish we'd see him grow more on that front.

There may be better ones, but I really like the delivery of this one.

KYOUKA AND ATSUSHI they make me go insane. Already talked about this in the Kyouka post but just to reiterate: in my headcanon Kyouka really is the only person Atsushi feels genuine, selfless affection towards. It's very sweet. They're siblings. Kyouka's happiness is really important for Atsushi. They really do have that feeling of people who got out of an abusive environment learning what normality is supposed to be like together. I also really like how they compensate for what the other lacks, be it decisiveness and coolhead for Atsushi and empathy and positivity for Kyouka.
Although plenty shipping them romantically, I really like platonic sskk and atsulucy as well.
OTP:
I really like sskk eheh. I think they're neat. There's a thousand and one reasons why I find them pretty great. They're objectively the only reason why I got invested in bsd as well as the only thing that has me keep up with the franchise to this day. Right now, I feel like the one thing I really appreciate about them is how you can be the worst person in the universe and still somehow be loveable to someone. I think it's sweet. I also find it very fun and enterataining to explore their various soulmatism antics. They're both very complex and multilayered characters with something deeply wrong with how their minds work that makes them very fun to analyze both by their own and in the complexity of their relationship. Their collective story arc and canon relationship progression is extremely engaging and nice to follow, too.
I love dazatsu and atsulucy as well!! Both were ships I wasn't particularly invested when I read the manga for the first time, but really grew in me in the last six months or so. I really dig akuatsulucy as well!!

He really likes reading. There's some real meta-analysis to be made here I actually had written this is probably not the right place to talk about, but in a work that's all about literature, he's the character who reads.
Unpopular opinion:
He's the hardest character to write / characterize. That's why people should probably go easier on other fans when they mischaracterize him. He's just very multifaceted and genuinely hard to get. I keep seeing people being like “Stop babyfying Atsushi he's an independent adult!!” then turn around to say “he can't be shipped with Dazai because there's too much unbalance of power :// [somewhat implying Atsushi can't make free decisions for himself]”, or “Stop making of Atsushi a soft baby who never did wrong in his life!!!” then turn around to say “Atsushi is the happy puppy of the agency who gets treats and pats from everyone ^^ ” like. At least to me, a lot of people's arguments sound self-contradictory all the time; but that doesn't mean people should stop having fun and characterize the characters as they like! Just, let's stop being mean to each other and try to be a little more accepting towards others' takes, shall we? And yes that also includes letting people find Atsushi annoying if they find him annoying (although like, I've NEVER found anyone call Atsushi annoying ever, so really, what remote fandom spaces is everyone visiting? Why are you looking for clothes (good takes) at the soup store (Tik/tok I assume?) ).

Natsu and juvia as a brotp
I just think they would have such a great dynamic and it is just such a shame they aren’t explored more considering that not only are they nakama but the two closest people to gray.
To start off they are FIRE AND WATER opposite but of similar attributes. Both emotional, extreme,incredibly stubborn, and have the ability to both destroy everything they touch or be the thing that allows for life to blossom. This reflects so much in their personalities and their relationship with their guildmates gajeel, erza, lucy and most especially gray. They are both a little obsessive, very one track minded, and have a habit of trying to be besties with kinda cold, scary( but secretly just scared to open up and be vulnerable so they use intimidation as a way to feel in control) people!
Speaking of cold, “scary” people, gray is a big part of both their lives, and his impact on both of them is something that should be touched upon more. Similarly, I feel like with Natsu and juvia being the most positive people in gray's life and their impact on his idea of love, it should be looked at how their shared characteristics are the things that bring gray back into the light. Also with the whole thing with them constantly being the ones to keep him from ice shelling, they should make a “ We Appreciate Gray” club. Juvia is the president( duh) and Natsu is the reluctant secretary who pretends he doesn’t care but will pull out all the stops to make the events incredible.
Natsu and juvia would definitely be the pair that no one thinks would get along but put them in a room and suddenly it's like an 8th grade sleepover. They have all the same friends and I swear to god they both are so much more gossipy then they let on. Playing the fool gets you incredibly far when it comes to getting blackmail material also NATSU HAS SUPER HEARING! Juvia has experience with dragon slayers( gajeel) so she would definitely use natsu’s super hearing and history with the other ft members to figure out what they like. People wonder how Juvia can stalk so well without getting caught and its because she has 2 (possibly 3 if she gets wendy on her side) loudmouths with super hearing and smell. Natsu and Juvia would definitely trade tips on how to make their friends happy and what to get them for their birthdays. Also i think that juvia would be a great place for natsu to kinda outlet some of his more emotional thoughts about his family because juvia thinks about the guild in the same way he does, but is better at expressing her love for them! I think they have a knitting ( juvia sucks so bad, she can sew, not knit and ends up setting her work on fire. how? Nobody knows) or baking club( natsu eat the ingredients before they start) that meets once a month that turns into just an hour long gossip session where they end up dealing “baby” pics of their friends. They give off inlaws who have a group chat that is just random photos of cats and complaints about how their respective partners ( the other’s siblings) won't get out of the house.
This isn’t even touching on the magic part, HOW COOL WOULD IT BE TO SEE A WATER AND FIRE COMBO ATTACK? LIKE COME ON MASHIMA DON'T BE A COWARD
I really wish we got to see more of them. They would be such a fun duo!

Not long after Tale of the Body Thief, Lestat and Daniel talk about Lestat's body swap and how Daniel worries his relationship with Armand is falling apart.
I wrote this in kind of a flash of inspiration but I figured I might as well post it now, since I'll be posting a lot of stuff in February for fandom events and don't know when I'll get around to it otherwise.
I really just love Lestat and Daniel having deep conversations and I think Daniel tends to ask the best questions. They are my BROTP with benefits and I know some of y'all love them as much as I do, so I hope you like this!
Brief excerpt:
“Is it true that you swapped bodies with a mortal?” Daniel had been burning to ask about it since Lestat first jumped him in Pirate Alley, and the question tumbled out almost immediately after they sat at the small bar table.
A storm of emotion passed over Lestat’s face. “I did.”

“Sucks, doesn’t it?” Daniel laughed slightly. Mortal discomfort—aches and pains and hangovers and head colds—had been the bane of his existence during his last mortal years. He’d been in his early thirties and yet already his body had changed so much. Sleeping at the wrong angle could ruin him for days.
“Not entirely. There were good things.” Lestat smiled, but it didn’t reach his blue gray eyes, which were trained on his martini glass full of blue curaçao and vodka. “The taste of wine. The sun.”
Daniel reached across the table and touched Lestat’s hand, which was a rich, tan color, like the rest of his skin. “And how did this happen?”
Lestat sighed. “I had a moment of weakness and went into the Gobi desert. It’s not important now.”
Daniel snorted. “Yeah, clearly. Are you okay?”
Lestat waved a hand and then his magnificent, winning smile returned. “How did you hear about my last misadventure anyway? I’m still working on the book.”
Daniel sat back against the booth and tapped his fingers on the table, keenly aware of the pack of cigarettes in his pocket. “Louis wrote a very concerned letter about the whole affair.”
Lestat frowned. “To you?”
Daniel flushed. “To Armand. Sent to Night Island. I stopped by to check on the house and I opened the mail.” He hadn’t thought much of it at the time—he and Armand often treated each other’s things as if they were their own, which was perhaps a bad habit, but it had always worked for them. Once he’d read it, he’d felt a bit like he’d overstepped, and he’d tucked the letter away to give to Armand next time he saw him.
“And where is that impish maker of yours, hm?” Lestat asked. “Where are you two living these days?”
“Barcelona, for now,” Daniel said. “Assuming he’s still there when I get back.”
Lestat smirked. “Trouble in paradise?”
“You could say that.” Daniel thought of Armand’s hardened expression, his cold kiss against Daniel’s cheek as he’d left. The icy atmosphere of the flat they shared. Daniel fiddled with the plastic sword that held an olive and onion in his cocktail, stirring it around the drink. “He’s gotten so damn volatile. The smallest thing sets off these terrible fights. Or worse, he gets quiet and sullen and avoids me. To be honest, I prefer the fighting.”
Armand had barely said a word when he’d left. Daniel had been pushed past all reason and needed a break, so he’d offered to go check on The Night Island, an errand they did from time to time as they traveled around in hopes that some new location might fix all their problems.
In truth, he’d hoped Armand would come with him. Maybe being home again for a few days would rekindle something, give them some perspective. But Armand had simply wished him bon voyage, without so much as a suggestion he didn’t want him to go, and now Daniel was procrastinating going back.
“He and Louis could teach a masterclass in administering the silent treatment,” Lestat said morosely. He stabbed the cherry in his drink with his own plastic sword, a little green one, and then let it drop, blue liquid splashing out of the glass.

Sexuality Headcanon: Toko's...tough, because she's got so much going on. regardless, i think if you strip everything away she's genuinely Bisexual, as is Syo. they lean towards Men, but Komaru is special. additionally, i say "comphet" for a lot of the girls, but in Toki's case it's a bit different: hers was less societal and more the abuse of her peers and parents. had she never met Komaru it may have never occurred to her that she could love and partner up with a Woman.
brief aside on this: i don't think Toko would ever identify as gay or queer or anything remotely accurate or healthy (ha). nor would Syo, but Syo would probably use a Slur as a label to get a rise out of people, avatar of rebellion and grunge that she is. Toki in particular is on my list of personal "what are you, gay or something?" characters while actively being married to a woman, next to Miu and a few others. good times
Gender Headcanon: okay, hear me out on this one, and sorry if this doesn't make sense, but...
the Fukawas are generally cis to me, though i've imagined a few scenarios where they're trans. when they're cis, however, i headcanon that, if they're with Komaru, only Toko ends up actually being cis. Syo becomes a sort of...genderweird she/her because she sees herself as the fantasy-masc Byakuya to Komaru's femininity. for lack of a better term: Syo thinks of herself as Komaru's husband (hersband...) a lot.
i have no idea how else to explain this without getting mildly NSFW. my thoughts on it aren't really pornographic so much as, like, Psychosexual? you know? and i want to keep the blog somewhat PG-13, so i'll leave it there!
A ship I have with said character: i am a diehard Tokomaru shipper and they're probably the one OTP i don't like splitting up in the whole franchise. they have a game together. they are the Girls of all time
A BROTP I have with said character: i've always loved the idea of Komaru being the entryway into Toko genuinely befriending (or at least earning the tolerance of) a lot of her fellow survivors in the main timeline. i do think Makoto would sincerely be Toko's pal, though, and i adore positioning him as the sweet bachelor brother-in-law in their nasty little family
A NOTP I have with said character: are there people out there who genuinely ship Fukawa System x Byakuya? if so...i'm sorry, but why? whyyyy. again, i try to Live and let Live in this fandom, but lorda mercy you chose poorly in this case, no offense
A random headcanon: to expand on my previous point...i will add, however, that my Fukawa Headcanons generally don't exclude Byakuya. i've said before that, for me, the Fukawas never really lose their crush on him, but it becomes purely, well, NSFW. if you excuse me being blunt for a moment: they still want to rail him, he figures in many of their fantasies, but they don't want to wake up next to him, and they certainly don't want to have his kids or make him breakfast.
Komaru, however, is the Fukawas' WIFE. she is Love, she is Healing, and she is their very best friend at her core beyond all the romance. she is pancakes and shitty manga and joy. Toko (and Syo) may not dream of Komaru kicking them around, but they do dream of creating a peaceful life with her. well...as peaceful as things can get in that timeline. some shit is always Happening
anyway: and Komaru just accepts this, because she knows she's got the girl(s) in the end!
General Opinion over said character: 10/10 i love my Toki so very much. Toki kinnie 4 life. stinky little insect creature. vile and perfect and lovable

Someone said Azriel doesn’t need more fighting and someone to challenge him. He needs tranquility and with Elain he could have that. But I feel like he needs someone, wether romantically or platonically, to not pull punches with him and I can’t see Elain doing that.
When does anyone ever fight him? They just tiptoe around him and let him be broody. They just sigh and say "that's Az for you, he's been sad for 500 years but I guess we just need to give him more time!" That's a huge part of the problem, right now.
Az does need peace, but it needs to be within himself, it needs to come from himself. He needs to reconcile with his past, be at peace with what has happened to him and the people he loves, realize that it wasn't his fault, and that he's been paying penance for things that weren't his fault for hundreds of years. He's got a lot of anger to work through and it isn't going to be fixed by someone just sitting there quietly with him.
Az absolutely needs someone who is going to call him on his shit and tell him to get himself sorted out. Elain definitely is not going to do that because she's too busy acting the exact same way. Gwyn's optimism and determination will give him another way of looking at life, and her competitiveness with him will push him in a friendly, good-spirited way. And she won't be afraid to tell him what he needs to hear.
Nesta I think will be a big part of this, too. Because she understands Azriel's specific kind of darkness in ways that his other friends can't, and she's also, having worked her way to the other side of it, going to know when he needs to be pushed and when he needs to be left alone. nezriel brotp was the highlight of hofas, for me.
Anyway, that's one of the reasons e*riel has been my notp since day one. They are the exact opposite of what each of them needs to move forward with their lives.

Gender Headcanon: CIS!! But he still uses He/They and sometimes even She. I think he finds pronouns to be a silly thing, but he's content with what he has. He wouldn't be offended if someone calls him pretty, or beautiful or typically 'feminine' compliments. He's cis here in my head, because Liu Kang wanted his bff to be able to be happy and not have to experience the crippling dysphoria he watched him struggle with. He's got a funny thing with gender, definitely sees himself as a man, but doesn't mind if other people see him differently. That strong kinda self-confidence that just genuinely makes him happy in his body regardless of what other people think.
A ship I have with said character: I LIKE HANLAO HELP ME. I also Love Railao. Anything where he can be happy but also has that nice bit of angst in it...
A BROTP I have with said character: OKAY HEAR ME OUT. LET ME COOK. KUNG LAO AND TOMAS. THEIR INTERACTIONS ARE SO BROCODED I LOVE THEM AAAUUGGGGHH melts away into a pile of sand.
A NOTP I have with said character: Exploding the pancakes of people who ship him with Liu Kang /J /J /J I am joking i promise. I just personally don't like the ship.
A random headcanon: Half-Filipino on his dads side, but never knew either of his parents. From the Cagayan De Oro area, he can speak Mandarin, Bisayan, and Standard Tagalog. This is part was inspired by the fact he just seems like a Chismoso and also by the fact in Mortal Kombat: Conquest, his actor was Paolo Montalban, a filipino man.
General Opinion over said character: AAAAUUGGH I WANT TO PICK HIM UP AND SHAKE HIM LIKE A SNOWGLOBE PLEASEEE UGHHH I LOVE HIM. I don't relate to him as much as MK11 Lao but LORD IS HE PRETTY AND LORD AM I A FAN. He's absolutely my favorite in MK1, followed by Quan Chi, and Rain. Honestly, I welcome all gender hcs for this goober. Trans, genderfluid, agender, bigender. I can see all of them fitting. 3: brotp - Ehh Eobard doesn't really do friends. He'll be nice to people for a limited span of time if he has to but people are slow. First place - his inner softness. Vergil is very much his momma's boy, he is emotional, touchy, and he loves with his whole heart, he loves so much that he is scared of the feeling consuming him whole. I thrive on seeing him simply be the older brother, father (and adopted uncle) figure that he wishes to be.
Honourable mention: just how Iconic he is. Vergil is THE anime katana wielder, he is THE Storm That Is Approaching, he is THE Rival Videogame Boss, he will kick your ass into Easy mode without breaking a sweat. Dante is an iconic protagonist for sure, but Vergil is one of THE Videogame Bosses Of All Time and that position is absolutely deserved. And, y'know. He is super fun to fight.
least favourite thing about them
V(ergil). I appreciate all the character development we got out of that time, but I also firmly believe it could have been achieved in other ways, plus V(ergil) just makes the story completely unrelatable. Dante faces human trauma and human struggles. Vergil faces those same problems, however, his path through them is an emotional mess human (and fans') experience cannot account for. For me, that dampens the emotional investment in the story, especially considering how much simpler, but no less impactful in Dante's in comparison to Vergil.
DisHonourable mention: 'Dreams of a black throne I keep on repeat' and 'Call me your majesty' lines from BTL and Fire Inside respectfully. None of those lines fit Vergil at all, and they only further the ginormous amount of misconceptions about him.
(I do adore the demonic pet therapy tho, it was adorable)

I admit, I am intrigued by Vergil/Lady, I think they can have something good together. They both seek challenge, and could provide it for each other (by challenge I also mean just generally new experiences, I don't mean they have to fistfight each arguement). I can see them together in some post-dmc3 AU scenario, but also. Surprisingly. Post-dmc5. Cause Lady very much needs to retire if she wants to live any longer than she has, and Vergil has known nothing but violence for his entire adult life (which is also not much). Post-dmc5 both need to learn how to handle peace times, and this parallel is what I can see driving them together in this setup. Again, I think they can have something nice, also probably much sweeter than in post-dmc3 version.

Vergil is a freakin romantic to the core. He likes reading, he would enjoy himself in an art gallery, I think he would also like visiting theater and/or musicals. This track is an absolute BLAST, and I have a concrete vision that Vergil would like to learn and play it. This vision was extended by the brainrot into Dante hearing the track, loving it, then bringing himself and Nero along to play the song (just don't ask me how, I have counted at least four different instruments, and it either means Dante and Nero have to switch drums and base guitar mid-song, or that Vergil and Dante have to switch on the guitars). This song is just so beautiful, and I think the losers will have an amazing time playing it together.

the premise of this fic is “MAUD+HAWTHORN BROTP!!” Because I needed to pass the time while I was excitedly awaiting the 3rd book, I started rewriting some Maud Blyth Chaos Moments from Jack’s Extremely Tired POV

Jack ran his tongue along his front teeth, then smacked the man’s face three times in quick succession. His skin turned a pleasant dusty pink, his head sleepily rolling to the other side. But no other reaction.
Disappointing. If he was going to expend energy slapping the cheek of a man with a face like an oil painting, he should at least get the satisfaction of hearing him moan.
“A dreadful assassin, and an even worse conversationalist,” Jack said. “No manners at all.”
It had hardly been ten minutes, but already, the wait seemed interminably long for either of the girls to show up and lay claim to the handsome problem on his carpet.

The anime has come and since I have my shipping goggles on I am going to notice so much. This part will be less spoilery for anime onlys (tho if you want to see me talk about why I ship them and why they’re complementary this is not a good part to start with haha). Edit: After completing this part I can confirm it’s fully anime-onlys friendly and spoiler-free! For manga veterans though there are still some fun tidbits to be found, some recontextualisations and new extra content.

In the beginning of ep 1, when Marcille is rambling about where they could go to get food and what to grab, Chilchuck listens with a big smile & even closes his eyes as they walk. The implication is that he’s thinking about food, but man the scene hits different now that it’s voiced and I remember that indeed Chilchuck is closing his eyes to her voice and enjoying hearing her talk and ramble. I may be too far gone into the marchil pit
I feel like already they’ve come far from when Chilchuck dreaded being alone with Shuro and Marcille, waiting for the Toudens and Namari to arrive.
Ok this might actually be smth I’m gonna complain about but I feel like blushes have been drawn too vividly so far. Why does Chilchuck look like he’s confessing when he tells her she’s not a burden and he didn’t mean to make her feel that way. It almost comes across as "Woah she cares what I think?" 💀 The banter ensuing is of course also great
Ep 2 was an episode centered on them both that had the "Magic/Traps are my domain, don’t interfere!" parallel…
And now with ep 3 we’re back to them being haters together. That’s her emotional support man
In ep 4, it doesn’t show well with a screenshot but when Senshi talks about his unmanned vegetable stand with a treasure chest, while in the manga Marcille and Chilchuck both think the same thing, "That’s why that treasure chest akways had money in it…", but in the anime instead they literally finish each other’s thought. Talk about being on the same wavelength.
Ep 5 is a marchil goldmine actually, it showcases perfectly how much of a package deal they are lol. Always sticking close to each other. Glancing at each other during meals… They literally nod at each other before they try a bite to steel themselves. They exchange a serious thoughtful glance when Laios talks about Falin truly being gone atm. They argue a bit but they go right back to sitting right next to each other after the meal <3 My god I can’t deal with them they are so…… "Hate this bitch, not my friend" 3 secs later "Heyy bestie!!" Also he’s worried he brought her mood down after mentioning Falin. Made a post about ep 5 collecting even more screenshots.
Episode 6 my hero my beloved… Again I made a post about the ep collecting all my screenshots here, and even a clip! But this IS the marchil crumbs masterpost thus I must collect the major ones here as well. First of all, fun staff drawings for the first screening!
I already posted a screenshot from the trailer of when Chil had his head on his knees sitting next to her, but after seeing episode 5 I think it’s a fun and interesting trend to notice that they sit next to each other way unnecessarily close wow.
They continue to banter a ton, she continues to be very casual with touch, and they’re really cute! I love just how much Marcille blushed damn- It’s really cute too when you remember with the bicorn chapter that Chilchuck teases Marcille BECAUSE he enjoys getting a rise out of her, flustering her and seeing her reactions. I support the teasing -> laughing because her reaction is over the top all-Chilchuck economy. Also she apologizes for having let him go alone and be gone for so long by helping him with sewing his cowl… Cuties
She looked so happy when he opened up about his age!… And then seemed… Disappointed? When he "truly was just a kid". "So you really are a kid! How boring…" This implies that her intent was to tease him for funsies…

Oh boy where do I even start:
he's a hard worker and deserves all the success and opportunities he gets. he worked hard to get from humble beginnings to managing some of the big European clubs, coming from "nowhere", with barely any playing heritage
he's extremely polite and humble, doesn't whine and moan about decisions going against his teams or referees not siding with his team, or his team struggling with injuries
but most of all his LOVE FOR FOOTBALL oh my god do I even have to say that? the man absolutely LIVES for football, when you hear him talk about it, you can see how his little eyes just lit up, how excited he gets... I bet his heart beats faster, and maybe he gets a lil' hard as well - football, football, football, it's always football. I wish I could see inside his brain but I assume it's literally 100 % football 24/7, it's always on his mind - and it's just such a pure love and adoration, he doesn't care about fancy expensive players and watching the most promising stars - he just loves the concept??? man has been turning up to the most random matches in Carabao Cup and the Spanish Cup and just watching whatever team he could (he even went to see the Legia Warsaw Women's team play when he was in Warsaw?), he just needs football, it's absolutely his drug. I bet he gets high off it, and his perception of the world changes, he feels calmer when he's at a game of football... He loves a big match of big clubs just as much as a local Gipuzkoan derby or something. I don't even think Unai has any bros :') No, honestly, I think Klopp kinda likes him (as you would like a sickly wet skrunkly cat), and Marcelino probably does as well, as does Andoni Iraola. I can see all of them looking at Unai with a combination of admiration and pity. I think it would be lovely if he and Andoni could go on a biking trip together.

Unai x Football is the one ship to rule them all. I love the potential of Unai x Mikel, because for Unai, Mikel is...the one to be jealous of, the one who got what he himself did not, and looks so good as well - Unai must feel such a strong emotion about this all, I can imagine him wanting to just.....tear Mikel apart, maybe physically, maybe sexually, maybe psychologically torture him, maybe suck his blood to have at least something from the perfection that Mikel is to him. But also, he's terrified of his not-very-christian thoughts (well, at least if he's not a vampire), and he has to turn them into something better.

I don't think I have any tbh! There's not many ships for Unai, and I actually quite like all the potential in those I have seen around AO3... Including Unai x other managers, Unai x players, Unai x club owners... I think the humble, polite way he presents himself, combined with the dark, vampire-like elements of him (the cruel smile he's capable of, the way his mind can calculate) make him perfect for all sorts of ships and set-ups. Although I love skrunkly blorbo wet cat (or bat) Unai who struggles and panics and breaks down and gets humiliated and loves it the most.

He's struggling with taking care of himself :') I know he said in an interview he's a decent cook (decent enough to invite friends over for dinner), but I just love the idea of him being extremely incompetent with taking care of himself (like, resting when sick, cooking proper meals, drinking enough water) - he's just BUSY with FOOTBALL, okay. That's why having someone like Klopp or Ange taking care of him also works well for a ship. And that's why I don't believe him and Mikel would survive for long together.

He's cute!!! I don't think that's a particularly unpopular opinion in our little corner of the internet lol, but ... when he loses the hair gel, he looks incredibly soft and sweet!
