Laura Coombs x Reader
Summary: You bake a bit too much
Tumblr media
It was a difficult line to walk.
Laura knew this.
She was an athlete. She needed to be on the top of her game. She fuelled her body with as much healthy food as she could source.
Which, sadly, meant that she almost always upset you.
"It's good," You teased as you took another batch of cookies out of the oven, waving them teasingly under her nose.
"I know they're good," She said stubbornly," It's your whole job. But I just can't eat them. The whole team is dieting. I can't be the one to break." That last bit was a little lie on her part but it was better than letting you down.
You scoffed. "One cookie won't kill you."
"Yeah but it's never just one, beautiful."
She was right, of course. You never did just give her one. You gave over the first cookie and then another and then another and then another until she had nearly eaten the whole batch and didn't go to the gym like she had planned.
You grinned at her, shrugging. "It's not my fault you like my cookies so much."
Laura rolled her eyes. "But it is your fault that you make them at home. Why can't you just make them at work?" She groaned and rested her head atop the marble countertop.
"Don't sulk." You swatted at her with your tea towel. "Eat some or stop whining. This is my kitchen. I bake what I want."
That statement had been the basis of your relationship for a long time.
The kitchen was your kitchen and Laura knew to stay well away when you were baking. Cooking dinner, she could interrupt you. She could hold you from behind and kiss your neck at any point she wanted when dinner was being made. But the kitchen was sacred when you baked to the point that you didn't even like sad people in it when you were mixing dough (claiming that their negative energy would affect how good your creations tasted).
Slowly, Laura reached out to snag a cookie from the cooling rack, biting into it morosely under your watchful eye.
"Good?"
"They're always good. Amazing, even," Laura replied, unable to keep a smile off her face.
"You should have another one."
She took it but narrowed her eyes. "I know what you're doing. This is the last one."
"Mhm," You nodded. You pressed a kiss to her lips. "Whatever you say."
You sauntered off to the fridge.
Laura ran her tongue over her lips.
You tasted like sugar.
●~●~●~●~
"Don't tell me you don't snack on her goodies whenever you can," Alex complained," Does she smell like cinnamon? She looks like she'd smell like cinnamon."
"Please don't talk about what my wife smells like," Laura said," It's a little weird."
Alex threw her arms up. "I'm just saying! She works in a bakery all day! It's the holiday season. Surely, she's working with cinnamon all the time?"
"Again, discussing what my wife smells like is weird," Laura said again," And if you must know, my whole house smells like cinnamon. She's baking like crazy. I don't understand it. All I want to do when I come home is curl up on the sofa and watch tv and she spends all day in a bakery and comes home to bake more. I just don't get it."
"Wow," Alex said sarcastically," Such first-world problems for you. A fit wife coming home to bake for you every day? Oh, no! How will you survive?"
"Shut up." Laura rolled her eyes. "My entire kitchen is covered in baked goods. Everywhere I look. Cookies. Cakes. I'm pretty sure last night she was making another pie. I'm trying to stay healthy."
Alex patted her condescendingly on the shoulder. "Then you shouldn't have married a baker."
Laura rolled her eyes again, spying movement to the left. It was kind of suspicious and Alex was grinning like a wolf. She turned and felt the need to smack that stupid, smug smirk off her friend's face.
"Mrs Coombs!" Jill cheered.
You greeted her warmly. You looked beautiful, wrapped up tight in Laura's coat with a hat tucked firmly on your head and a scarf curled around your neck.
You held two bags full of little brown boxes.
"Stop calling me Mrs Coombs," You scolded lightly though still with a smile on your face," It makes me feel old. I'm not old."
"You're more put together than most of us," Alex said as she crossed the room to hug you," Did you bring us treats?"
"Who do you think I am?" You scoffed, moving past her to join Laura, stealing a soft kiss.
You still tasted like sugar.
"My personal baker," Alex said with a grin.
"I'm no one's personal baker," You insisted though you pointedly kept your eyes on your wife," But you're lucky that the other Mrs Coombs likes to have counter space to sit on while I cook."
You placed your two bags onto one of the tables and began unboxing your treats.
"One at a time!" Laura barked when the girls surged forward. "Make an orderly queue please and thank my wife! She didn't have to trek all the way here in the cold."
"Thank you, baby," You said as the group finally calmed down, each girl taking a turn and pressing a kiss to your cheek in thanks.
"No problem, beautiful." Laura rose from her seat, a hand reaching out to curl around your waist.
You rested you head against her shoulder, smiling.
"What's got you so happy?"
"Nothing." But you were still grinning.
"No. Seriously, what is it?"
"It's just..." You giggled. "I thought you told me that the whole team was dieting and that's why you couldn't eat my cookies."
Laura's cheeks went a little bit red. "So...Maybe I twisted the truth a bit."
"You're cute when you're embarrassed," You said," But you know what this means?"
"And what does this mean, beautiful?"
You grinned and kissed your wife's cheek. "That you don't have an excuse to not be my taste-tester anymore."

y/n couldn't help but laugh at the crowd's reaction to her shirt, the cheers and screams of excitement at the name on the back made Mary roll her eyes playfully.
Laura and y/n had kept their marriage quiet, only a their teams and families came, as well as the England squad. No one seemed to suspect a thing without the engagement announcement.
It had been a gorgeous ceremony, y/n's maid of honour being Lucy and the right-back made her cry far too many times with her speech. And after discussing, y/n decided she wanted her wife's name on her back.
The second the man utd team sheet went up, the comments and her phone had been blowing up, the team and herself finding itself hilarious as people freaked out.
And after taping her ring around her finger and walking out with her team, y/n could see the complete shock her name change had given and it made her grin.
As they walked down the line, high fiving the city players, Laura came face to face with her wife, both being started today due to other injuries in the squads.
Laura smiled softly as she got to her wife last, the blonde pressing a kiss to her wife's ring, which caused a loud 'awww' to ripple through stadium.
y/n smiled softly and winked at her wife before jogging to her team and getting ready to prepare for the match, a small knot of worry in her stomach.

y/n didn't know what was going on. She was aware that she was being rough, but Manchester derby's were always like that. But the ref seemed to have it out for her.
She was on a yellow and she knew it as she jostled with her lover, Laura just slipping past her with her smaller frame. y/n let out a curse of annoyance as she chased after her wife.
She managed to jostle again and dispossess her wife, the blonde sprawling out across the floor in annoyance as y/n's harsh shoulder barge, a legal tackle but an annoying one.
Laura stood up and watched as Mary managed to intercept y/n's pass, her wife letting out another curse of annoyance as she moved back into her defensive position.
However, the shrill call of the whistle stopped the game as Katie dispossessed Mary. Katie threw her arms up annoyance as y/n defended her captain, saying she had fairly got the ball.
To everyone's shock however, the ref held up a second yellow y/n's way, quickly switching to the dreaded red. It was current the 76th minute and 2-2.
"What the fuck?" y/n asked in shock.
"Wait why?" Ella asks running over to the ref.
"Foul language toward another player." The ref stated and y/n's jaw dropped as she looked over to Marc, her manager who was animatedly trying to discuss it with the 4th official.
"I didn't say it to her, I said shit as I tried to chase her down!" y/n yelled, walking toward the ref. "You've had it out for me all game." y/n defends once more.
The ref was having none of her defence and pointed at the tunnel. Despite the game being at City, the crowd suddenly set off in louds sets of boo's at the ref.
The cheer of 'you don't know what you're doing' became louder as y/n continued to shout in anger at the ref, Laura finally tugging her wife away, telling her to calm down.
"Get the fuck off me!" y/n hisses ripping herself out of her wife's hold and her move caused the smaller woman to stumble slightly. The ref blew her whistle again.
y/n let out a dull laugh as she heard the official following her the woman telling her to get off the pitch immediately. y/n scoffed and trudged off the pitch.
Marc was looking as confused as she was and as the ref shouted at her once more, y/n had enough. She chuckled and grabbed her coat from the bench and jumped over the barrier.
The cheers got louder as she moved to the crowd tugging on her coat and lifting her water to her mouth as she sat next to a city fan, who held up his fist for a fist bump, which y/n did.
The ref watched her confused for a moment, as if trying to figure out if she was serious. y/n just opened her arms as if to say 'and what' as she grinned.
"I'm off pitch!" y/n called and Laura had to slide a hand over her mouth to hide her wide grin.
If there was one thing people loved about Laura's wife, it was that she was known for being a sarcastic little shit, it was one of the things people adored about her.
y/n knew they would appeal the cards and at least her red and one yellow would be revoked, because in all honesty she hadn't done shit.
Marc snorted, having to walk away as he tried not to burst out laughing at his longest running player, acting liked a child as she sat in the opposite teams stand, with people cheering for her.
Eventually, the game drew to a close, a draw being the final result even with utd down a woman. Laura moved over to her wife, who was sat chatting to a city fan, who seemed to be in awe of the woman next to her, despite being a City fan.
"You coming trouble?" Laura yelled up to her wife, who grinned and said goodbye to the fan, taking a quick photo before jumping back over the railing and into her wife's arms.
"I'm sorry for snapping love." y/n hummed, Laura chuckling as she pressed a kiss to her lover's head.
"It's okay baby, you had a rough game." Laura promises as they walk into the tunnel.
"She fucking hated me!" y/n defends and Laura sighs pressing a kiss to her wife's head.
"And you are no help with your sass." Laura says and y/n scoffs.
"Just because you're two years older doesn't mean you can mother me!" y/n tells her wife as they near the changing rooms.
"I thought you liked it when I took charge?" Laura asks quietly, her teeth pulling at her wife's earlobe as the woman pauses in shock.
Laura chuckles and kisses her wife's cheek before skipping into the changing room, y/n gulps and pulls at her collar before walking into the changing room, where she is greeted with cheers of amusement by her team.

Retirement - Laura Coombs
Based on this request;
Laura coombs reader and Laura are together and have been for 5 years and married for 1 they met at liverpool then moved to Manchester city together but reader decides it's time to retire after a bad injury so reader tells talks to Laura about retiring and Laura says it's up to her but I'll support you with what you do
“Fuck this! I’m fucking done!” Y/N yelled, cleat slamming into the wall next to her.
She slammed her body back on the training table below her, throwing her arms across her face, blocking out everything else in the room.
“You don’t know what the scans will show tomorrow,” Laura attempted to pull Y/N’s arms away from her face, meeting resistance, she left them be, settling to rubbing a hand up and down her arm.
“It doesn’t matter what the scans fucking say.”
Laura motioned players out of the training room. They all meant well, but Y/N was in no position for anyone to offer simple platitudes. The few players slowly backed back out of the room.
“Just get out Laura,” all the fight seemingly left her.
Laura waited a second, “take a minute babe. I’ll go change, then we’ll get you changed and get home for the night.”
She stood, dropping a quick kiss to Y/N’s forehead before leaving the room.
Y/N let out a sigh, happy to finally have some space to be upset on her, guilt slowly seeping in at the way she spoke to Laura. She tried to spread her toes apart, hissing at the sharp pain shooting across her foot and up her ankle.
Y/N had taken a harsh tackle late in the game, the other player rightly being shown a red card, before being escorted to the many ‘boos’ coming from the crowd. Y/N had a clear break down the left side of the field, Roord had crossed a ball in perfectly at her feet. As soon as the ball touched her foot, she was spread out on the turf. An opposing player making no play for the ball, sliding in with her studs up, which connected harshly with the inside of her ankle.
The medics were on the field before Y/N even registered the pain. Laura already had her on her back, soothing her as the medics twisted and turned the ankle. Her ankle was supported while she was moved into the stretcher to be removed from the field.
She hardly heard anything they all said to her once they got her to the training room. She was too focused on watching the scissors glide through her sock. Once her ankle was visible, she had to look away. Her skin had already started to mottle with dark colours, clear imprints of the studs in the middle.
Laura sprinted off the field as soon as the whistle blew. Her cleats thundered through the halls as she made her way to Y/N. The medics said they would come back to fit her for a booth and crutches once the player was changed and ready.
The midfielder came back in a couple minutes later, dressed to leave, both players bags left by the door. They worked to slowly get Y/N dressed. Laura undid the zipper around the ankle of Y/N’s joggers, creating as much room around the damaged limb. Y/N tried to hide her whimper with no success, Laura muttering a soft apology, but continuing.
Once dressed, Laura called the medics back in. She let Y/N grip her hand while they fit her for the boot.
The blonde helped Y/N slide off the bed, holding her up while they adjusted the crutches. They slowly made their way out of the stadium. Along the way, Laura tossed her keys to another player, requesting them pull her car closer to the door.
The two went right to bed when they got home, both too exhausted for anything else.
Y/N tried to sleep, her body was exhausted, she wanted to sleep, but her brain just couldn’t stop. She knew this meant her career was done. Maybe she could come back from the injury, but maybe she couldn’t. Would the recovery even be worth it anymore. The gruelling physio, the conditioning to get back to game ready. And even then, she would never be the same.
By morning, Y/N didn’t think she had slept more than an hour.
Laura helped Y/N get ready before they made their way to the hospital to see the specialist and get imaging done for her ankle.
The day felt like it was over in minutes; Y/N didn’t retain anything that happened. Thankfully Laura was with her, she tracked everything said to them, wrote down her surgery date, all her pre-op and post-op instructions, and everything else important.
Next thing Y/N knows, she’s laying between Laura’s legs with her booted foot propped on some pillows.
“I’m going to retire.”
“We don’t need to decide anything right now, love,” Laura ran her palm over the exposed skin of Y/N’s stomach.
Y/N just sighed and nodded; she had already decided.
Her surgery came and went.
Recovery wasn’t too bad at first. Laura was there for everything she needed before she needed it most of the time. The week spent on the couch was nice, she caught up on her list of shows to watch, even a couple books.
But then she had her first physio. She wanted to cry; she did shed a few tears when no one watched. The pain was almost as bad as when she hurt her ankle to begin with. She saw how much muscle had lost to her leg already, reminding her how much more she would lose, and how hard it would be to build it up in the months to come.
“I’m going to retire,” Y/N was back between Laura’s legs that night.
“I understand, love,” she whispered in Y/N’s ear, “I’m here for you every step of the way.”
The next day, Y/N told everyone she needed to tell, all very supportive and understanding of her decision. By the afternoon, it had been posted on social media and Y/N would officially be done professional football.

Blue Hearts II Kerstin Casparij x Reader
Tumblr media
masterlist I word count: 2020
A/N: based off this request. Let us know what you think. 🩵
Tumblr media
Y/N 🩵
laiaalexandri 💪🏻
womenfootballfan Caption 10/10 🔥
The Manchester City squad was taking their lunch together in the club’s cafeteria. A very excited Kerstin Casparij just told her teammates about the great conversation she had with you through social media. Playfully shocked Jill Roord placed one hand on her chest: “I can’t believe you started chatting with a stranger via Instagram, Kerstin.”
Unimpressed by the dramatics of her fellow Dutch friend the defender shrugged it off:” What’s the big deal?” “Ignore her, tell us will you meet her in a real life?”, Esme Morgan waved it off. Hesitant Kerstin bit her lip:” I don’t know yet. She seems nice on her Instagram profile.” “She seems nice, huh?”, Lauren Hemp wiggled with her eyebrows.
Equally teasing Jill asked her:  “What if it’s a serial killer?” “Only if books count as weapons, Jill. I agree with Kerstin she looks adorable.”, Esme shook her head after taking a look at your Instagram profile.  The tall blonde Dutch forward snotted:” You know there could be anyone behind that profile, Esme. You’re just so gullible.”
“Oh, shut up, you’re way too cynical for the fact that you’re in a relationship.”, the English defender shot back with a crooked smile on her lips. Amused the former Wolfsburg player corrected her:” I’m not cynical, I’m Dutch.” “So is Kerstin.”, Lauren observed, it was obvious that they shared their nationality but were very different personalities. That’s why Jill quickly responded:” She doesn’t behave like a Dutchie.”
“Oh my god, she just asked if we want to meet at a bookshop!”, Kerstin exclaimed. Grinning Laura Coombs replied:” Well, there are enough people that would probably notice a murder there.”  “True, so it’s a relatively safe meeting point from her side but I’d get suspicious if she wants to go the crime section.”, Alex Greenwood winked at the Dutch defender.
Smirking Kerstin reassured the older blondes: “I’ll text you SOS If she does that.” “Okay, good.”, Alex nodded satisfied with her answer. Curious Laura glanced at her:” That means you’re going?” “Yes, I’m starving for some new literature.”, she joked. This costed her an eyeroll of her national teammate:” No, you’re starving because you’ve not touched much of your food yet.”
“No, she’s starving for a meaningful emotional bond with someone.”, with these words Alanna Kennedy stole smiling the food off Kerstins plate. Weakly the owner of that dinner protested:” Hey!” “Cheeky chica.”, Leila Ouahabi commented. The Australian player tried to defend her actions in front of her fellow friends: “I was hoping she would go right now and leave her food here.”
“You know what? I’ll.”, motivated Kerstin jumped off her chair. Motherly Laura advised her: “Take that food with you!” “Hey.”, Alanna pouted.  Beaming the Dutch defender said goodbye: “See you tomorrow guys!” “Have fun. And call us if something’s off.”, the English forward reminded her. Groaning Jill hid the face in her hands:” This will end terrible.”
“Or it’s just the beginning of a wonderful story.“, Esme mused, watching Kerstin leave. Alanna shook her head in disappointment; “And she still didn’t leave me any of her food.“ “You can have some of mine. The English food can’t keep up with the spanish.“, Leila laughed, pushing her plate towards the Australian. With a shrug, she dug in; “I’m happy as long as there’s food.“
Meanwhile, you were so distracted looking at literature in the bookshop that you barely noticed someone approaching you. “Hi, y/n?“ You turned around to find Kerstin smiling at you. “Yes, hello, Kerstin.“, you replied politely. Your gaze got caught on the book she was holding in her hands; “Your book pick?“ Kerstin nodded, handing you her book so you could read the synopsis on the back; “Yes.“
“Great choice.“, you smiled at her, impressed by her taste already. Carefully, the football player pointed to the book you were holding; “Can I see yours?“ “Sure.“ “Thanks.“ While Kerstin examine the book, you explained; “I thought Conversations with friends seemed very appropriate for the chats we already had online.“ “I like that.“, Kerstin agreed with a laugh.
Relieved about the fact that you two were getting on as well in real life as you did online, you suggested; “They have a coffee shop here too. Do you want one? Please say you like coffee.“ “Who doesn’t like coffee?“, the dutch football player replied with a laugh. “I heard some do but I never came across that species in the literature department.“, you joked as you both started to make your way to the café.
Grinning, Kerstin admitted; “I’m no exception to that.“ “So you would like a cup?“, you asked. “Yes, sure.“ “Okay, great.“ You ordered for the two of you and sat down at a table next to a window. The smell of coffee filled the air between you two. “Wow, this coffee is really good.“, Kerstin commented right after her first sip. You wrapped your hands around your cup, happily nodding; “Yes, right? It’s one of my favourite places in Manchester?“ “It is?“, Kerstin asked, her voice filled with curiosity.
“Yes, it’s more lively than the uni library and I like that. Do you have a favourite place here?“, you answered truthfully. Kerstin took another sip of her coffee, thinking about the question for a bit; “Actually I do.“ “Apart from the football stadium?“, you grinned, hinting at your shared love for the beautiful game.
“Do you think we football players just spend our entire lives in the stadium? We also go out for coffee or dinner?“, she jokingly rolled her eyes at you. Impatiently, you leaned forward; “No, of course not. So is it a coffee shop or a restaurant?“ A fond smile appeared on the football players face; “It’s Jill Scotts coffee shop. It was the first place the girls took me to when I joined City.“
“That sounds really sweet.”, you answered. Confidently Kerstin thought out loud: “Maybe, I’ll take you there too some time.” “Yes, I’d like that.”, you told her beaming at the prospect of seeing her again. The defender looked deeply interested at you: “So, tell me something about yourself. My teammates thought you might be a serial killer.”
“I can assure you I’m not a serial killer as you know I’m a literature student who does enjoy watching women’s football with her friends in her free time.”, you replied with a crooked smile on your lips. Grinning Kerstin had to admit: “That doesn’t sound so scary.”
“So yes, I love reading, spending time with friends, love if coffee involved in those meetings and I do own a cat.”, you added. As you mentioned your pet the Dutch player’s face lit up: “You own a cat?” Later you’d get to know that she was a cat owner aswell, making her in your eyes even more lovable. “Yes, she’s called Virginia after you probably guessed it Virginia Woolf but most of the time, we call her Ginny.”, you nodded enthusiastically.
Taking another sip of her coffee, Kerstin said: “Ginny, that’s cute.” “What about you? What do you like besides football?”, you wanted to know from her, playing with a loose string of your hair. The defender’s answer made you fall for her even more when you were already about to: “Reading and photography.” “And writing witty Instagram captions.”, you winked at her.
A warm laugh escaped Kerstin’s mouth, it seemed to have come straight from her belly: “Yeah, that too.” After the nerves of a first meeting have calmed down you two spend a pleasant time at the bookshop chatting about everything and nothing at the same time.
Right before you had to depart you handed her a book with the title Love in the Time of Serial Killers, you couldn’t help but to smirk: “Maybe you should give your teammates that book.” “Maybe, I’ll.”, the Dutch woman told you. Her brain was already busy thinking how to ask you out for another date, she wanted it to be clever and funny like you. But for now, she gave you a kiss on your cheek, whispering a hopeful goodbye and hoped for another hello soon.
On the next day Jill congratulated Kerstin chuckling:” Congrats for not getting murdered.” “Thank you. I even brought you something.”, the younger Dutch player replied with an innocent smile on her face. The blonde who was known to always have a book in her suitcase when she travelled but never read them, threw her eyebrows up at the sight of the gift:” A book?” “You’re welcome.”, Kerstin chirmed.
With a look at the present Alex remarked giggling:” I’m a big fan of the title.” “More important, how was it and will you see her again?” , Esme demanded impatiently. Turning red Kerstin mumbled: “She was very nice and I enjoyed it so yeah, I’ll probably see her again.”
Esmes face lit up with delight; “See, Jill. I was right!“ “About the fact that she wasn’t murdered? Congratulations.“, Jill rolled her eyes. “No, you know what I mean.“, the defender protested. Jill acknowledged her with a dismissive gesture; “Yeah, fine. Love won and all that.“ “It did!“, Esme nodded determinedly. “Sweet.“, Jill commented with a small smile.
Kerstin let out a sigh, giving her teammates a disapproving look; “Girls.“ But even she failed to hide a grin. “We’re happy for you, Kerstin.“, Laura said, putting a gentle hand on Kerstins arm. Impatiently, Lauren asked instead; “Will she come to our next game?“ “Maybe.“, the dutch football player replied with an innocent shrug.
Esme concluded quickly; “So, yes.“ “But I don’t want to introduce her to you.“, Kerstin added, giving each of her team mates a stern look. Esmes eyes went wide in a mixture of surprise and offense; “Why not?!“ “You guys are embarrassing.“, Kerstin laughed. “Us?“, Lauren replied, feigning shock. “Who else?“ The English midfielder shook her head in disappointment; “Rude.“ Alex Greenwood looked less than impressed as she told her teammates; “Don’t worry. Sooner or later we’ll meet her.“
Of course, Alex was right. As soon as the final whistle blew at Manchester Citys next home game, Jill pointed in the direction of the stands; “There’s blue heart!“ “Who’s blue heart?“, you asked surprised as Kerstin came over to quickly give you a kiss. “You are.“, she admitted with an innocent grin.
A smile spread on your face as you remembered the blue heart emoji you sent to Kerstin in response to her Instagram story. The blue heart that started your chatting. “Oh.“, was the only thing you could say to that before Lauren pulled you into a tight hug; “Great to finally meet you.“ “Hi, girls. Nice to meet you all too.“, you smiled at the group of football players that had accumulated around you. “We’ve heard a lot about you already.“, Alex smiled.
Jill added with a smirk; “Yes, Kerstin never shuts up about you.“ “Oh really?“, you replied, catching your girlfriends cheeks turning pink. “That is a lie.“, she protested weakly. “Nah, it’s the truth.“, Chloe Kelly disagreed. Kerstin gave you a pained look; “That’s why I didn’t want them to meet you.“ “But we wanted to meet her.“, Esme interrupted. Kerstin gesticulated towards you; “You did now. You can leave.“ “Oh no, we’ll celebrate that win with a team dinner, remember?“, their captain reminded Kerstin.
Wary, she squinted at Alex; “That was never planned.“ “Yes, it was. Let’s go, girls.“, Chloe yelled. Innocently, you gave your girlfriend a kiss on her cheek; “Sorry, love. I guess we have to join them.“ A sigh escaped her while she interlaced her fingers with yours; “I hate that you’re on their side. But I guess we do.“ “I’m just curious, you know? It’s your team after all.“, you shrugged. “Fine.“
While her teammates slowly retreated to the dressing room, you winked at her; “Don’t worry, I’ll make up for it when we’re back home.“ “That sounds like we have a deal.“, she smiled back at you. “Cuddling with the cats and reading out loud to each other?“, you suggested. Another voice interrupted your conversation; “Sounds disgustingly romantic.“ Jill grimaced in disgust while Esme rolled her eyes at her; “Jill!“

If you write for her, I will not be opposed to a Kerstin Casparij one because I have the biggest fattest crush on her. Maybe a fan keeps showing up in the fanzone (an area of the Joie stadium where a selected few are allowed to meet the players, but it's random each time and should make it so its different every time so everyone gets a go.) And nobody knows why she's there or how she keeps getting chosen but the players find it funny and make sure to get round to her every time. But Kerstin always spends a particularly long amount of time with her, until it's revealed that she's pulling strings and getting the girl in every time just so she can see her. (You can either do it where she does it because she likes her or because they're dating, it works with both and I'm not sure which one I want more.)

__________________
You had met Kerstin in a bakery down the road from your house. When you first saw each other, the woman nearly tripped over her own feet. You were surprised by the shock on her face like she was starstruck by being in a metre of your presence. You gave her a friendly smile, hoping your open ambiguity would keep things humble.
It was during your final exams, the ones where you needed to pass so that you could continue your degree. You were very passionate about what you did, and sitting down in a quiet coffee shop with your headphones on and books open was your idea of being productive.
Kerstin, on the other hand, had the impression that you didn't want to talk to her.
Which, well, to be honest, you were in the middle of studying, but you gave no clear indication of what she thought you were thinking.
Instead of going about her day — she should've been at training twelve minutes ago, but it was only media day so they could wait — she slowly sauntered closer to where you sat, pretending to be interested in the decorative flowers that embellished the cafe. You watched her out of the corner of your eye, smiling at her piss-poor attempt in remaining discreet.
You were dressed in very basic clothing, similar to hers save for the Manchester symbol embedded on her jumper. Only one ear was covered by your headphones, meaning that Kerstin would be heard loud and clear if she plucked up the courage to speak to you — which she was trying to do now. She thought you were the most beautiful woman she’d ever seen, and she was surrounded by women almost every single day of her life. You looked extremely immersed in what you were doing, which should of been an indicator of apathy but it only lured Kerstin in more.
She wanted to know everything about you. Your name, you favourite colour, what you did, what you loved, who you loved—
It sounded a bit creepy, so she shook off her thoughts and focused deeply on the flowers. The woman was staring at her screen distantly, aimlessly typing away on the keyboard with a mug by her side.
When she realised you had caught her staring, she buried and swallowed down her pride. “They are nice flowers, don't you think?” She asked, her cheeks burning a vibrant red as if she had just run a marathon. You noticed her accent, one that wasn't accustomed to Manchester, and nodded like you cared about the topic.
“Yes, but I think they are fake.” You replied, smiling wider as the woman’s flustered state only grew in size when she caught sight of the very fake-looking plants.
“Oh.” She gulped, shoving her hands into her pockets. She's so stupid, she thought to herself, she’d blown her chance of even talking to this gorgeous stranger by talking about some stupid, fake plants.
You wondered whether the woman would continue the conversation she started, but the silence that followed was a pretty good indicator that she was audibly stumped on what to say.
“They are pretty, though.”
“Like you,” Kerstin spoke without thinking and instantly regretted it. She slapped her hand across her mouth, nearly walking out of the coffee shop, packing her bags and moving back to the Netherlands. “Fuck, sorry. That just— erm, came out. Sorry.”
You took off your headphones, pretending to act offended, raising your eyebrows and sighing. “You don't mean it?”
“What— no, no, you are so pretty. Like, beautiful, gorgeous. That's why I'm here. Well— yeah, I saw and thought you were pretty. I didn't mean it like that. You're probably smart, too, but— erm, yeah.”
The look of remorse almost made you feel bad, but your amusement — and somewhat endearment — overturned your hesitancy.
Instead, you laughed, took a sip of your drink and smiled, hoping it would calm the woman’s nerves.
“You worry too much.” You said, moving across the booth you were sitting on, offering the space beside you for her to sit down. She did so without delay. “I'm not someone you should waste your worry on.”
“You are the most beautiful woman I have ever seen,” Kerstin answered wholeheartedly, pleased when she noticed the blush that dusted your cheeks. “I would rather worry about you than anything else for the rest of my life.”
You laughed, crossing your arms over your chest. “You don't even know me.”
With a push of confidence, Kerstin wrapped an arm over the back of the booth, scarcely missing your shoulder. “If you’d let me, I’d like to.”
“Charmer.”
It was from there that you and Kristen started to hang out.
Seven months had passed, and you were now completely and utterly in love with the woman. Kerstin was an externally affectionate person despite her introverted persona. She loved showering you with compliments, giving you everything you needed at exactly the right time with just the right amount of love and devotion.
You found out she was a football player pretty early on in your relationship due to the tight and busy schedule the girl had, including her diet, exercise, and all of that. You weren't a massive football fan, but going to your first game a week into knowing Kerstin made it seem to find a way into your heart.
Your girlfriend wasn't the only one to give compliments. You had your fair share in making sure the Dutch woman knew how much you were enamoured with everything she did. It took you a while to get used to her career and the publicity that came with it, but you found pleasure in knowing that once you got back to your shared apartment you could tell and show her just how much she made you feel so so proud.
It was in mutual agreeance that you both wanted to keep your relationship under wraps. Your feelings for one another and how you cared for each other were one of the highest concerns in your relationship, and by keeping your love between yourselves, you've found that it worked better overall. You didn't want to indulge in a media presence, and Kerstin respected that.
Kerstin was fine with putting herself out onto social media, but when it came to you, she wanted to make sure you were comfortable at all times.
Because of this, you both came to the decision that at games, you wouldn't sit within the family and friends section, and instead, in the crowd with the fans.
You were among the group of fans that were guaranteed to meet the players after the match, whether it be cause they paid more or if they were chosen randomly by officials. For many weeks, people just assumed that they were lucky or could just afford to pay the extra money to be seated in the same section. Both you and Kerstin found it amusing when fans would wonder why you were always the first one to be greeted, or why you knew her.
After a month of this recurring theme, some of Kerstin’s teammates started to notice.
Surprisingly, Lauren, who wasn't the most observant, caught sight of it first.
“Do you know her?” She asked Kerstin after a game against Everton, watching the Dutchie make eye contact with you from where they were signing shirts.
Kerstin looked at Hempo, a blush running across the bridge of her nose.
Shrugging, she thanked the last fan, handing back the pen. “She's a friend of mine.”
Lauren’s eyebrows furrowed. “Then why isn't she in the friends and family section?”
When Kerstin didn't instantly reply, silenced by the prodding questions she was receiving, a distant idea clicked in Lauren’s mind.
“She's your girlfriend?” She sounded, obviously a little too loudly since the Dutch international nudged her warningly.
“Alright, nosey, keep your voice down.” She snapped, pulling the girl away from the crowd. “You can't tell anyone, alright. It's still pretty new.”
Lauren’s eyes widened in alarm, not exactly thrilled with the commitment of keeping a secret. “Does Jill know?”
“Why would Jill know?”
“I don't know, I didn't think I’d be the first person to find out,” Hempo replied, looking back at you. “Can I tell someone?”
Kerstin’s eyebrows furrowed. “I just said you can't.”
“Yes, I know, but I'm terrible at keeping secrets,” Lauren whined. “Please, let me tell Jill, at least.”
“No, because Jill will tell Viv and Viv will tell Beth, and Beth will tell literally everyone.” She quipped, only half-heartedly digging at the Arsenal girls. She watched Hemp sigh like a child, looking down as if the burden of her knowing was too much. “You can tell Esme but that's it.”
That was how the first people found out about you and Kerstin. When she told you that night, you weren't necessarily fazed. It was bound to come out at some point, and you’d rather Kerstin’s teammates find out from her than the internet.
Unfortunately, though, the rest of the girls weren't afforded the same luxury as Esme and Lauren.
All of the girls at Man City couldn't believe their eyes when they found out Kerstin was in love.
Well, to be fair, they weren't quite certain this was true. Lauren and Esme saw it first at the next game against West Ham, watching their teammate smile cheekily at the girl in the stands when she should've been stretching.
Sandy mentioned the Dutch International’s love-sick countenance to some of their teammates over lunch a few weeks later, promoting Hempo and Es to spill their not-so-long-kept confession.
None of the girls knew who Kerstin was talking to — or even if their suspicions were acclimated, but Sandy, Esme, and Lauren all made it their mission to keep their lips closed.
Sandy was the one to come up with the pact, yet the demanding eyes of Roebuck after an endurance training session set her tongue loose.
Lauren wasn't at all happy. Esme ended up spilling the secret to Mary as well, meaning the secret was already spreading across the team.
Meanwhile, fans were growing more and more suspicious of you and how you managed to steal the attention of Kerstin after each and every game.
The media surrounding you two got so big that Kerstin’s national teammate Viv called her one day asking what was going on.
Kerstin knew Lauren and Esme had told at least half the team by then, including Jill, who had run up to you after a game and pretended to flirt with you just to annoy her teammate. Viv was quick to point out that if she wanted to keep your relationship private, putting you in the midst of cameras and media attention wasn't the most suitable option.
You ended up deciding that if you were to stay in the crowd, both of you needed to be willing to make your relationship more public.
It had been seven months of concealing your obvious love for one another. Pretty much the whole team knew about you, and it only took fans a quick video of the two of you looking at each other to piece the clues together. You were both mature enough to keep your private lives private and social lives up to your discretion.
You made the decision to share very minimal parts of your lives together without spelling it out. This meant that you could hug your girlfriend for that little while longer in front of everyone. You could kiss her and not look around to see if anyone was looking. You could tell yourself that Kerstin was yours and you were hers.
But you didn't need public knowledge to make you feel loved by her.

Loving her is red (Referee's Version) II Lauren Hemp x Reader
Tumblr media
mancity women masterlist I word count: 1718
After the draw against Chelsea most of the Manchester City teammates decided to go to their favourite bar and get a little drunk. Especially the two English players who got a red card in the game were on their best way to be a bit more than slightly drunk. The last one who joined them was Leila Ouahabi who got two yellow cards in their first WSL game this season in London, playing against Westham. Slightly worried she looked at the younger forward:” Hempito, how many shots did you already have?” Afterwards she waved at her other teammates with a bright smile on her face: Hola chicas!”
With a teasing smile on her lips Alex explained to the Spanish defender:“ Lauren’s trying to get to 81 because that’s the minute she got her red card.” “Don’t remind me of that, Al!”, the younger blonde whined. The Manchester City captain kept joking:“ I only have to get to 38 shots at least.” “You’re not serious, chicas! That’s loco!” “No shit, Leila. They’re obviously not.”, Chloe Kelly interjected giggling. Red faced Leila apologized: “Sorry, I don’t always get your British sense of humour.” “You’ll get used to it.”, Laura Coombs reassured her with a soft smile. Confidently Ellie Roebuck nodded, while hugging the brunette from behind: “Definitely.”
Meanwhile Alex handed her a couple of full glasses: “Here, those drinks are for you. For getting a red last week.” “Gracias.”, the dark-haired woman mumbled. A bright grin appeared on the blonde’s face: “De nada.”
“Drink!”, Lauren shouted into the Spanish defender’s ear.  A loud laugh escaped her mouth before starting to taste her first drink of the night:“Okay, alright.” “Good!”, the younger forward replied, clearly satisfied.  Her reaction made Leila laugh even harder:” She gets bossy when she drinks.”  “Drink your drink.”
“Hempo. Leave her alone.”, Alex rolled her eyes as she cut through that conversation. “Fine.”, Lauren sighed. To the brunette their skipper said:” Don’t worry, it’s just the red card.” “Is it? Where’s Hempitos girlfriend?”, Leila asked empathetically, instinctively feeling that Lauren could need her love right now after such an awful match with a terrible result for her.
With a sympathetic smile Chloe answered: “Working.” “Still?”, Leila glanced surprised at her teammates. “She called after the game to talk to Hempo and we said we’d go out for a few drinks first.”, Laura added. “Oh okay.” Smiling the older woman tried to put her at ease: “She’ll pick her up later.”
Alex addressed the round of football players excitedly; “More drinks anyone?“ “Yes!“, Lauren nodded violently. “And apart from Hempo?“, the blonde defender laughed. “Me too.“, Filippa Angeldal joined in, while Ellie yelled; “Esme and me too!“ Esme Morgan sat next to their goalkeeper with reddened cheeks; “Exactly.“
While Alex ordered them more drinks, Chloes face darkened; “Guys?“ Khiara Keating, the youngest the group, looked up from her phone; “Huh?“ “Where’s Hempo? Her seat’s empty. Did anyone see her leave?“, the striker asked with her eyebrows drawn together in confusion. Esme turned around in her seat, looking for her team mate; “Lauren? Where are you?“ Leila did the same on the other side of their table, even getting up from her chair; “Hempito?“
As a slight nervousness spread among the football players, Lauren jumped out from under the table with a loud; “Boo!“ The mischievous smile on her face let everyone know that she was incredibly proud of herself. “Don’t scare us like that!“, Alanna Kennedy scolded her, but still shook her head in amusement. Lauren could barely contain her laughter; “You should have seen your faces!“ Annoyed, Chloe rolled her eyes; “That was not funny!“ “Yes, it was.“, Lauren kept giggling.
Several drinks later, Ellie took one look at Lauren slumped down in her chair and announced; “I think it’s time for Hempo to leave.“ Outraged she immediately sat up; “What do you mean?!“ “I’m calling her girlfriend.“, Alex decided. With glassy eyes, Lauren pleaded; “Oh come on. Don’t be boring.“ But she was slurring her words enough to make even Alex who had her fair share of drinks shake her head.
You were only mildly surprise when your girlfriends teammate called. You knew you were supposed to pick Lauren up but you were expecting her to call you herself. “Alex?“ “Hey. I think your girlfriend had enough. Will you come pick her up?“, she explained more loudly than necessary. “Yes, of course. I’ll be there soon.“, you nodded and ended the call. You just came home from work, so you were still in your shoes and jacket. All that was left to do was grab the keys and walk over to the bar.
Luckily the way was not that far, and it did not take you too long to find the celebrating football players in the room. “Hi girls. Come on time to leave Lauren.”, you chirmed. Happy about the fact that the women did not seem to be that sad about the loss anymore. Determined your girlfriend shook her head:”Nooo.” “Do you need help with her?”, Ellie offered in a friendly tone. Politely you replied: “No, I think we’ll be fine.” “Wait.”, Laura interjected, a warm smile on her lips. “What?”, you looked confused at her. Slightly out of breath Chloe explained: “Here. Coombsy made me run across the street to the chip shop to bring you some food you can eat at home.” “Oh, thank you, Chloe. This is really thoughtful of you.”, you told them moved by their gesture.
Smirking Leila observed: “She will need it.” “I think so too.”, you admitted while making sure that Lauren was ready to go and did not left any of her belongings at the bar. Quickly Laura hugged you and her younger teammate who got red carded earlier: “Good night, you two.” “Night, everyone.”, you waved at them.
Amused Chloe shouted: “Good luck getting her home.” “Thanks, I’ll need it.”, you answered laughing before turning to your girlfriend, let’s go love.” “Ugh fine.”, Lauren groaned, obviously not too excited about being one of the earliest to leave the team party.
After some fresh air on the way to your appartement you mumbled relieved:” We’re home.” “Finally. Can’t wait for my bed.”, the blonde yawned. Suddenly she felt the tension which the forward felt all day escaping her body as she was taking the first step into your appartement.
Her physical reaction did not go unnoticed by you:” That game has been a lot, right? Sorry, I couldn’t be there because of work.” “I know that. Actually.. I’m glad you didn’t come. The game was just overall shit.”, Lauren confessed. Still, you felt a little guilty for not coming to the football match: “I could’ve been there for you.”
As you two had been childhood sweethearts long before you had a name for what you two felt for eachother you tried to come to every home game your girlfriend had, and it did not matter the weather. But as you two became young adults sometimes work forbid the tradition you held dearly.
“No, you couldn’t. I was on the pitch.”, the forward reminded you softly.  A sad smile appeared on your face as you kissed her forehead: “You’re right but I can be here for you now.” “It’s cool. Really. Proud of the girls for taking the point home. We could’ve lost 0:5.”, the blond muttered.
“Your team is really incredible.“, you nodded, thinking not only of the game but also of the familiar atmosphere at the bar a few minutes ago. Lauren let herself fall back onto your bed while kicking her shoes off; “They are. I love them.“ “I can tell.“, you replied slightly moved and changed into your Pyjamas.
Your girlfriend watched you from the bed; “Do you know what else I like?“ “Our bed?“, you laughed. Lauren smiled back at you; “That too!“ “And you?“, you prompted her to go on. „Bananas!“, she finally revealed happily. Surprised you paused and raised an eyebrow; “Are you hungry? I could get you one.“ “No, we still have the food the others gave us.“, she reminded you and then seemed to remember what she actually wanted to say; “Did you know that there are over 1.000 types of bananas?“ “Uhm, no. But that’s really interesting.“, you answered politely as you slipped into bed with her.
Excitedly, Lauren nodded; “I know, right?“ “What made you think of bananas?“ Your girlfriend snorted; “They’re yellow. Like the cards I’ve gotten. Doesn’t make sense that yellow plus yellow makes red.“ “No, it does not.“, you agreed, feeling sad for her because that topic was still so present in her mind. “I mean why red? That’s so aggressive.“, she kept going. Carefully, you put a hand in her hair; “You can’t stop thinking about it, huh?“ “No.“, she admitted. Her eyes were wet again and her lower lip trembled.
“Come here.“ You pulled her towards you, gently stroking her face. Laurens tears never came. She just swallowed hard; “It’s stupid, I know. We all know the ref made a lot of bad decisions today. But it still feels like I did something bad.“ “You did nothing wrong, love.“, you assured her. “I still won’t get to play the next few games.“ “I know…“ Sighing, Lauren sat up again; “I want some chips. You too?“ “Yes.“ She got out of bed to go into the kitchen where you put down the food. With the paper bag in hand, your girlfriend wanted to know: “Can we eat in bed?“ “Sure.“ Lauren cozied back up in bed with you and you two ate in silence.
The greasy food seemed to help with the alcohol. “Do you feel better?“, you wanted to know from your girlfriend. Shoving more chips into her mouth, she nodded; “Yes. They’re so good.“ “Agreed.“ “I guess I just needed some food.“, Lauren shrugged, grinning. You quietly laughed; “Seems like it.“ “So good.“, your girlfriend mumbled before laying down and closing your eyes.
You gently cleared the bed from the trash, pulled the blanket over Laurens body and kissed her forehead; “Sleep well, Lauren.“ It was quiet for a while when the football player suddenly said; “Hey?“ “Hm?“, you answered, now sleepy yourself. “Love you.“ A smile appeared on your face because your girlfriend finally sounded content; “I love you too.“
Sorry this is not our best work but we hope you still enjoy this one. 🩵

But we were in screaming colour II Jill Roord x Reader
Tumblr media
mancity women masterlist I word count: 2141
Manchester City just ended one of their pre-season trainings. The intensity in this session was very high as it was getting closer to the first game of the season. So the players were accordingly exhausted, however the atmosphere in the dressing room was very good. As the newest signing of ManCity, Jill Roord, was just getting ready, Laura Coombs walked past her.
Apparently, she and Alex Greenwood were making plans to go somewhere after training because as her gaze fell on Jill, she slapped the defender on her upper arm; “Oh my god, Al! We still need to introduce Jill to our favourite coffee shop! You like coffee, right, Jill?“ Surprised the dutch player looked up and nodded with a grin; “I love coffee!“ “We really need to show her. She needs to meet the other Jill!“, laughed Alex while she slipped into her shoes.
Demi Stokes was now joining their conversation, her hair still wet from the shower; “Oh yes, we should. Also I can’t wait to say hi to my bestie again.“ Before Jill could ask who that would be, their goalkeeper looked at them excitedly; “You’re going to get coffee?“ Alex nodded; “Yes. Do you want to join us? Jill, you’re lucky. If you want to take aesthetically pleasing pictures for your instagram, Ellie will be your photo buddy.“ Jill smiled politely at the goalkeeper. She knew that they shared a passion for photography. Ellie seemed happy about that idea; “Oh yes, we need to take some photos.“ “Yes, that sounds great.“, agreed Jill.
Meanwhile Chloe Kelly turned off the blow dryer she was using and looked at the group getting ready to leave; “Are you going to Jills coffee shop?“ “Yes, are you coming too?“, Ellie asked. “Yes, I could really need a coffee right now.“ “Great, so let’s go, shall we?“, asked Laura the other players who nodded in agreement. As they left the grounds, Jill couldn’t hide her excitement; “I’m curious to see how it is. You all make it sound so good.“
“From the outside it might not look that great but inside you’ll love it.”, Alex promised her. A couple of minutes later the six players entered Jill Scott’s coffeeshop. Excited Demi waved at one of her closest friends:” Hey Jill!” “Demi, hello, good to see you!”, equally thrilled the former England international player hugged the smaller woman before turning her head to the other footballers, tell me who*s the new blue in town.”
With a bright grin Laura introduced Manchester City latest signing: “Jill, meet the new Jill!” An awkward smile appeared on Jill Roords face: “Hey fellow Jill.” “Nice to meet you too, Jill.”, the ex-midfielder winked at her. While clearing her throat Chloe informed the coffeeshop owner:” She’s Dutch just like Sarina and you might have played against her when she still kicked the ball for Arsenal.”
“I played against so many people, Chloe. I already forget most of them.”, Jill Scott said with an amused smirk. Cheekily the blonde forward remarked:” I hope you didn’t forget how to make great coffee. Our Dutchie here is very curious if it’s as good as we told her.” “We’ll see about that.”, the former midfielder joked as she was making the coffee for her ex-teammates, handing the newest member of the club the cup first.
Thoughtfully Jill Roord took her first sip of the warm brew: “The coffee is delicious, Jill. I’ll definitely come here more often.” In that moment she realized that Ellie had been taking a photo of her while drinking.  Innocently the goalkeeper demanded:” Your turn to take a picture now, Jill Roord.” “Okay, fine.”, the forward sighed. Secretly she loved it, taking photos was one of the things she enjoyed the most in her free time.
Solemnly Ellie announced: “ I feel like this will be the start of a wonderful friendship.” “You just want me to take photos of you.”, the Dutch woman laughed. “No, do you want to look at the photos I took from you?”, the English player asked, trying to distract the slightly older one. Sceptical Jill Roord glanced at her:“Sure but I know you’re lying.”
The next morning, Jill returned to the coffee shop. This time she was by herself and not there for the coffee. Business in the coffeeshop was slow today, so Jill Scott immediately noticed her when she walked in; “Good Morning, other Jill! I did not expect you back this quickly. Same order as last time?“
The dutch football player walked up to the counter; “Morning and yes, please.“ As the former football player turned around to prepare her coffee, Jill took a deep breath before she revealed the real reason for her visit; “Jill? Can I ask you something? I looked through the photos I took when I was with the girls and…“ She could feel her cheeks heating up while the older Jill watched her with raised eyebrows, beckoning her to go on; “And?“ “And I wonder if maybe you know this woman? Does she come here often?“, the Dutch finally finished and held her phone up to show her the photo of a young woman.
The former England international slid the cup of coffee over the counter and shook her had; “I can’t tell you that.“ “Oh, of course. Thanks for the coffee though.“, Jill Roord replied, trying to banish the disappointment from her voice. She was already about to turn around and leave the coffee shop, when she got called back; “Jill?“ “Yes?“ “Come back tomorrow after training.“, advised Jill Scott with a wink. The younger of the two Jills couldn’t stop the smile from spreading across her face; “Alright. See you, Jill.“
You, however, did not know about the conversation the football players had the previous day when you sat down at your favourite table in the coffee shop. You spread out your papers and drawing utensils on the table in front of you. As usual, your coffee had already gotten cold because you got lost in your drawings. You flinched when Jill Scott approached your table, setting down a piece of cake and a fresh cup of coffee in front of you. “Oh, hi, Jill. I don’t think I ordered cake and I still have some coffee left. See?“ You held up your cup of cold coffee but the taller woman just took it from your hands and smiled; “Oh, I know you didn’t order.“ “But?“, you prompted her to go on. She just shrugged with an innocent look: “It’s on the house.“
A smile appeared on your lips:” Thank you, Jill.” Little did you know that in this moment your life was about to change. With an innocent look on her face the owner of the coffee shop led Jill Roord to your table:” The other tables are all taken, I’ll bring you your coffee here.” “Uhm thanks.”, the Dutch woman said. It did not take Jill Scott very long to bring her the ordered coffee: “Here you go.”
Quietly you had watched the scene unfold in front of your eyes before deciding to speak up:” She must like you. Jill doesn’t bring everyone their ordered coffee to the table.” Suddenly your face turned pretty hot, you realized how much off said table you were taking for yourself:” Sorry my drawings take so much space, if you want to, I can make you some room.”
Meanwhile Jill couldn’t believe her luck as she recognized you as the beautiful woman in her pictures: “No don’t worry about it. Leave them there.” Almost shy the blonde added:” Can I have a look at them.” “Sure, actually it’s supposed to be a graphic novel at the end.”, you explained her. Your heart was full as she exclaimed: “Oh really? That’s so cool.”
For a moment you let her go through the art you created, letting her admire it in peace. Clearing your throat, you unravelled the plot of the graphic novel: “It’s about the first openly gay women’s football team in England Hackney Women FC.”
“You’re kidding.”, the forward gasped.
You could not help but laugh a little about her astonished reaction:” No, I’m not. Jill has been a great help for me as she answered all my football related questions patiently. The female players who played back when in the 1980s generously shared their stories with me. Let me tell you these women are incredible. Oh, that probably doesn’t interest you at all and I talked your ear off.”
“No, I like that. That’s very interesting. I think we forget too easily who came before us.”, Jill replied seriously. Surprised you looked at her: “We?” “We football players.”, the Dutch woman specified. “I see.”  An honest smile was appearing on the blonde’s face:“So, I think it’s cool what you’re working on.” “Thank you.”, you whispered, appreciating her kind words. “You’re welcome.”
With flushed cheeks, you hurried to change the topic; “So, for which club are you playing? City or United?“ “City. I just moved here.“, the Dutch admitted carefully. She visibly relaxed as you nodded happily; “I secretly hoped you would say City. Our whole family have been fans of them ever since.“ Jill smirked; “Really? So if I would play for ManU, you would have just stood up and left?“ “Possibly.“, you laughed. The football player rested her chin in her hand; “In that case, I’m really lucky.“
Before you could answer, Jill Scott stepped to your table; “Sorry, girls. We’re closing soon.“ You immediately started collecting your papers and pens; “Time really flies when you’re in good company.“ “Can I help you?“, Jill Roord caught your attention again. “Oh, no, thanks. I’m good.“, you smiled gratefully at her. “Alright then.“ Patiently, Jill waited for you so you could leave together. “Goodbye, Jill!“, you waved at the former England player as you walked through the door.
Outside, Jill Roord smiled warmly at you. “I guess it’s time to say goodbye now…“, you stated with a thin smile. Jill just shrugged; “Doesn’t mean forever. Maybe I can buy you a coffee soon.“ This suggestion made you look up at her excitedly; “I’d like that very much.“ “Maybe tomorrow? Same time?“ “Yes, I’ll be there.“, you agreed happily.
A few coffee dates later, Manchester City was set to play against Westham in their first game of the season. The players were in the middle of preparing for the game and the gossip in the dressing room reached their height. “Can you believe it, Laura? Jill met her new girlfriend in our favourite coffee shop. Thats so old fashioned in the internet days we’re living in.“, Chloe brought up the topic. Laura shook her head, unimpressed; “I think it’s cuter this way than meeting someone online.“ „Agreed, it’s so romantic.“, Esme chimed in. The blonde striker looked at her two team mates in disgust, “Can’t believe you both think that.“ “Come on, Chlo, don’t be like that. It’s time to win the game!“, Lauren Hemp pulled her out of the dressing room. Jill didn’t even listen to their gossip, she knew you’d be out there in the stands to watch.
The day after the team won against Westham a few players decided to visit Jill Scott’s coffeeshop. The owner was beaming at her former teammates:” The coffee is on me. Great goals, Hempo and Jill!” “Thanks Jill.”, Lauren answered with a soft smile. “You’re welcome girls.” Curiously the ex-football player looked at the new signing:” Jill, is your girlfriend coming too?” “I think so.”, the Dutch chuckled.  A knowing grin was showing up on Lauren’s face as she revealed to the coffeeshop owner:” Jill’s girlfriend is a City fan, so I’m sure they will celebrate our win properly tonight.” Jill Scott pretended to be shocked by her former teammate, as she put her hand to her chest in playful disbelief:”Hempo, you’re too young for such a cheeky smile.”
Slightly out of breath you were turning up next to the Mancity girls:” Hi, sorry for being late.” “Hi love.”, your girlfriend greeted you with a warm and welcoming smile. More calmly now you looked up to her before she kissed you and you replied to it softly: “Hey.” “Guys, we’ve a child here!”, Jill Scott protested. Eyerolling Lauren corrected her:” I’m not a child.” “Yes, you are.”, her ex-England teammate stated firmly. Loudly “I’m 23!”, the English forward complained. Amused the coffeeshop owner looked at them:” And I’m still 13 years older than you. Guys, you can stop kissing now your coffees are ready.” Flushed you thanked her for it before saying goodbye to her for now.
As you and the other women were stepping out into the autumnal October afternoon you were silently thanking fate or whatever it was that made you go into this coffeeshop one day and find not only inspiration there but love too.
