Curate your YouTube search and recommendations

Tell me if you've had this problem before. You click on some video, any video, looking at something positive. And all of a sudden, you're spammed with dozens of negative videos in your recommendations. And no matter how many “Not interested” or “Don't recommend channel” that you click, YouTube still forces them on you. Or maybe you're looking for something in YouTube search, but you get too much clickbait videos, or hate-watch videos? And you have to scroll through everything?

Or maybe people have used different tags to force them into your search options, giving you tons of options that aren't related to what you are searching for. Wouldn't it be nice if you could block these channels and videos the same way you block people on social media?

Unfortunately, YouTube's existence relies on Ad revenue exclusively, hence why their channel blockers won't work, and reporting channels or videos won't accomplish anything if those channels and videos don't harm YouTube's reputation or ad revenue.

The larger a channel gets, the less chance of YouTube taking action against them. Hence why very large hate-channels and videos will swarm into searches.

Fortunately, there are tools called Browser Extensions or Add-Ons that allow you to have your browsers be able to add that specific block button option.

But...wouldn't it be nice if we didn't have to look for those tools? Why do we need such an option? Why can't YouTube give us that option in the first place?

In any case, the resources DO exist. You just have to look for them on Google Search. Blocktube is one such tool, and you can look it up on Google Search to confirm what I have shown here.

I know that for Phones you’ll need something called Youtube Vanced, also researchable on Google.

Rowling's "charity" is run by, among other unqualified people, a TERF former prison chief whose regime was so austere her prison was said to have Victorian conditions. Since this "charity" is only open to specific types of women and actively excludes others, it is misogynistic in nature.

And let's not forget that time when she, as a white, cisgender, heterosexual woman, told queer people of colour that they should not be welcome at Pride. Rowling is a white supremacist.

She is also now buddy buddy with Matt Walsh, who believes White People are Being Replaced.

mood: very funny

The Witch Trials of J.K. Rowling | ContraPoints by ContraPoints

what it's about: dissects the podcast "the witch trials of JKR", intertwines the whole discussion with "anti-gay crusader" anita bryant and talks about the age old question of calm discourse and cancelling. this is the essay i would actually recommend the most, it made me question my previously held and very privileged view that all discourse should be held in a calm and collected way. it actually shouldn't! not when it's about peoples right to live!!!

who might like it: just watch it (former harry potter fans (or current?), people interested in lgbtqia+ history)

watch or listen: you can only listen, although the editing is nice and supports the arguments well, and contrapoints outfits are a-ma-zing

mood: it's a serious topic, but some parts are funny

Can we just... stop making Harry Potter references, please? Even aside from tacitly supporting JK Rowling's transphobic and fascist rhetoric by keeping her work in the zeitgeist, the ways magicians reference her work are unnecessary at best and rude at worst (I swear if I hear one more person call non-magicians "muggles" I'm gonna scream)

People don't need an HP reference to understand what magic is. HP isn't even the only prominent piece of media with a magic system. You don't need to bring that shit up.

J.K. Rowling is more tone deaf, racist and transphobic than you thought and we as a collective should not support people, particularly powerful people, that oppress other marginalized groups. This means not participating with their IP (Intellectual property), in this instance, not purchasing Hogwarts Legacy. It's our responsibility to stand by our fellow gamers who are trans, and hold powerful people accountable for their actions. We can do this by not buying anything related to the franchise as well as being critical of Hogwarts Legacy. This has already been done by many people who have criticized aspects J.K. Rowling's values and how this translates into the content she creates.

I'm here to build on the transphobia and the harm J.K. Rowling has had on the trans community especially in the UK and why purchasing her games, movies, books and everything else connected to the IP makes the consumer an indirect supporter of J.K. Rowling and her discriminating values and beliefs. The reason, I am writing this is because of the comments I've seen on previous posts which come across as selfish, callous, nonsensical and some even sharing rhetoric and arguments used to oppress girls and women that play games.

J.K. JK Rowling has since doubled on her trans exclusionary stance by releasing her problematic book 'troubled blood' back in 2020 under her pen name Robert Galbraith a 20th century American psychiatrist who practiced the pseudoscience of conversion therapy.
