today’s whump prompt for writers:
whumpee suffers blunt force trauma to the head and has a part or half of their head shaved during the procedure of saving their life, thus the pitch black stitches from where they were hit and were then patched back up are painfully visible, and every time caretaker looks at those stitches, they are reminded of what whumpee went through. and caretaker can’t let it show on their face how disturbing the sight was to them, otherwise whumpee might think caretaker is disgusted by them now (when that is not the cast).
bonus because whumpee’s (partly) shaved head and their stitches can be a constant reminder of their trauma, what whumper did to them, and also the now shaved head (even if their head was shaved by a nurse, not by whumper, in order to prep them for the surgery/in order to best treat their wound) can be a symbol of dehumanization, depends on the context and the vibes and how whumpee feels about their situation.
another bonus if they suffer concussion, too.
chef’s kiss.

hello! i'd like to ask what would happen if someone were to be hit in the side of their neck with incredible force, from a blunt object? The kind of force to even knock them off their feet for a moment. What would happen to the neck, how would it heal, would there be a lasting hoarseness? thank you sm!
Gonna answer these in slightly reverse order:
Healing is going to depend a lot on the mechanism of injury and the exact damage caused, which you should hopefully be able to determine based on the following points:
If the impact is on the side of the neck, I can't imagine hoarseness being at all relevant unless the character wound up intubated afterwards. The windpipe is in the very front of the throat, and any impact to it that would knock someone off their feet would likely crush it, which is BAD NEWS. (From the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia: The damage can range from minor vocal cord weakness to fractures of the cartilage structures of the larynx or trachea. These fractures can cause air to escape into the neck and chest, leading to significant respiratory compromise and even death if not diagnosed and treated quickly.)
Even with a (relatively) blunt object, like the leg of a chair, an impact of that velocity could potentially break skin and a whole lot more. It depends how broad the area of impact is, be it something narrow like a pipe wrench, or broad like a two-liter bottle. The more the impact is spread out, the less likely it is to break skin (which is the whole reason a bed of nails works), but of course you're going to get trauma to the area of impact either way, bruising and potentially damage to the underlying tissue and muscle.
There are a lot of MAJOR nerves and blood vessels in the neck, near the surface, too (hence why it's a spot you can take someone's pulse). I can't honestly imagine an impact of that force not damaging something. Which brings me to
You're breaking this motherfucker's neck. Whether the spinal cord is damaged is up to you, but you're almost unquestionably breaking vertebrae if you're hitting somebody in the neck hard enough to take them off their feet.
Most importantly, though, you have to remember what the neck is attached to, and what it's made to support: the head.
6. This person is getting a concussion. A hit to the neck that knocks you over will shake, rattle, and roll your brain like nobody's business.
More about spinal injuries here and here.
More about concussions here.
I hope this answered your question(s)!

OK, imagine this scenario; the whumpee loses control of their powers, essentially having a berserk conscious blackout, unaware of anything around them. The whumpee's blasting powerful magic out trying to hit anything around them, eventually the magic fades, and the whumpee's weakened by it; burns and wounds covering their body as they teetered between conscious and unconscious, the wooziness coming in tenfold.
*CRACK*
The whumpee feels a blinding white hot pain shoot through their head as they felt their body leave the ground, they slammed against an object before falling unconscious.
The caretaker saw one of their allies hit the nearly unconscious whumpee with their weapon(an oversized blunt object like, a warhammer or a giant mallet), chastising ally A for doing that when the whumpee had already calmed down.
The caretaker picked up the unconscious whumpee, carrying them to another area where they'd tend to the whumpee's injuries before letting them rest in a bed.

Whumptober No. 13: Cold Compress | “I don’t feel so good."
TW: blunt force trauma, loose teeth, blood, swelling, broken nose, carewhumper
"I don't feel so good," Whumpee mumbled, bringing a hand to their cheek.
Whumper grabbed their face, examining the source of their discomfort. They were much gentler than usual, something Whumpee was very grateful for.
"You don't look so good." Whumper tilted their head. "I didn't know hitting your head on the table would make your face swell up so much. I was only trying to break your nose."
Whumpee wasn't sure whether this was meant to be comforting or not. But they were sure that it was in their best interest to shut the fuck up. Hopefully Whumper was in a good mood.
"Honestly-" Whumper slowly shook their head "-you should be more careful."
"I'm sorry," Whumpee said, trying valiantly not to press their bloody tongue against the teeth Whumper had knocked loose. "I'll do better. I promise."
Whumper fished an ice pack out of their freezer and pressed it to Whumpee's cheek. It was horribly cold, but Whumpee forced themself to hold still, knowing that using the ice pack and not pissing off Whumper would both be good for their health.

So general battery and general blunt force trauma (via telekenesis but still) what kind of injuries from that might send you to a more extended hospital stay?
Blunt force trauma may not penetrate but it can still cause concussions, crush injuries, broken bones, torn ligaments, severe bruising, organ damage and internal bleeding.

A hot kettle has a lot of whump potential I think
-Heated metal to press to the whumpee's skin
-Scalding water to pour on the whumpee
-Steam burns
-Heats up slowly, lots of time for a whumpee to think about what's going to happen (can also be used to test a whumpee by instructing them to keep their hand on/over it)
-They can be rather hefty, while it probably shouldn't be used as a bludgeon it would work if someone's desperate, probably hurting both parties in the process
-Would leave stinging, itchy burns for a whumpee to cope with for a while, maybe burn scars as well
-They're everyday objects, that'd be a lot to contend with for a whumpee that associates them with torture
-Even without a whumper, there's a lot of opportunity for a whumpee to get hurt by one on their own-- accidents happen, after all

At first I was like oh Honey no. But then I put my squirrelly brain on and like yeah I can see where Kuroko is coming from now. While Taiga has been a great teammate and is always looking out for Kuroko. The person who's the driving force in their friendship is Kuroko, always reaching out, showing up when he's eating, following him home, and sharing his middle school trauma. If you put that under the lease of someone who indulges his opponents bad habits before ruthlessly taking advantage... p1
p2 Like Kagami has let Kuroko into his home. But he's not really shared a lot about himself. He hasn't met Kuroko's parents or been over to his house. He's not shared anything about his friend on another team, even tho Kuroko has been talking about all his exes and how they play basketball. Like Taiga is obviously not an asshole, but Kuroko is the guy really pursuing the friendship.
look. this is where having more understanding of japanese culture helps. do you know how intimate going over to people's homes is? being invited? kuroko is very polite and very japanese, canon. there's a lot of guessing culture vs asking culture going on - reading the implications and social cues.
(kuroko acts like a little shit w taiga bc of the relationship they built up - a bit of verbal roughhousing, pushing each other's buttons, taiga presents his stance and kuroko trying to meet him where he is)
(the door metaphor in ch 6 was kuroko feeling mirth at taiga's mannerisms, and him trying to communicate an idea in a way he thought taiga understood - he's not normally going to make a metaphor that unhinged lol)
kuroko has the dog excuse, but that means taiga's mannerisms are permissive enough that kuroko feels allowed to ask. yeah, taiga is pretty americanized, but with the adult perspective and being hyper-cognizant of this new culture he needs to navigate (+ actually absorbing things in saturday school), the fact he 'complains' but lets it happen is big. and his dad offering the key to kuroko (his dad sees something there, implied)
while you're right, taiga is pretty reserved otherwise (and his inner narration can obfuscate that), he never denies any overture kuroko makes. even with the snark. kuroko asks, taiga bitches but eventually responds with honesty (even if it's a bit evasive).
(which is kinda ironic compared to canon)
he also actively jokes with kuroko, and because basketball is an activity that kuroko loves, being an active and solicitous teammate is essentially the same as wanting to enjoy something together with someone you like. (there's good teammate like passively 'i'll play the game and pass the ball to you', and there's actively working on the other person's skills, acknowledging them, tracking them, etc)
showing up where he's eating... it's a canon gag that kuroko was always there, and the other person just didn't notice (ie. they approached kuroko while man's just chilling and spooked themselves)
he hasn't really shared his trauma yet (he = kuroko). but the generation of miracles is an unavoidable topic for the high school basketball circuit of the setting.

Whump Vignette #4
Contents: child endangerment, child coerced into violence, sadistic Whumper, captive Whumpee, chains, hammer, blunt force trauma, blacking out from pain, emotional distress, no comfort, swearing
Whumpee awoke to the sound of their heavy cell door opening. They looked up from where they sat against the wall opposite the door, arm chained to a large steel eye hook on the floor at their feet. The bright light that shone from the open door forced Whumpee to squint. Three separate shadows crossed the light before the door closed again with a loud clunk.
Whumpee blinked several times, willing the bright spot in the centre of their vision to fade faster. There was a moment of silence barring the sounds of people breathing. Then, a soft click. Unfortunately, by the time Whumpee realized what the sound meant they were too late. The overhead lights came to life, flooding the room with a dazzling brilliance and sending bolts of pain through their eyes.
“Jesus fuck!” Whumpee exclaimed, slamming their eyes shut and hiding behind their arm for good measure. The sound of chuckling came from the other side of the room.
Slowly, Whumpee cracked their eyes open and lowered their arm, allowing themself time to adjust to the bright lights. Forcing their vision into focus, Whumpee immediately recognized Whumper and one of their henchmen. They allowed their eyes to roam over the henchman’s face before following the length of his body to notice his hand. His hand, which was rested on the shoulder of a young boy with wide eyes.
Whumpee felt dread move through their body like the surface of a lake turning to ice. Their eyes snapped over to Whumper’s face only to find them grinning, pleased that Whumpee had noticed their little guest.
Nausea swelled in Whumpee’s stomach and they could feel the pinpricks of tears forming behind their eyes. “No,” they spoke with a quiet horror.
Whumper’s grin grew impossibly wider. “But you don’t even know why he’s here!”
Whumpee’s eyes flicked back to the boy, who stood close to the henchman’s leg, looking like the only thing stopping him from hiding behind the man was the firm hand on his shoulder. He couldn’t be any older than 12.
“He’s a child. He shouldn’t be involved in any of this.”
The henchman spoke then in a gruff voice. “And who are you to decide what’s good for him? Huh?”
Whumpee ignored him. “Whumper, this has to cross a line, even for you.”
Shrugging their shoulders with a sheepish look, Whumper took a few meandering steps forward. “I won’t be crossing any lines.” They turned to look at the boy. “Young Caleb here won’t have to do or see anything… unsavoury.” Turning back, Whumper crouched down at eye level with Whumpee and spoke coldly. “You’re going to save him from any such displeasure by telling us exactly what we want to know.”
Whumpee closed their eyes and tried to quell the panic in their chest, breathing heavily through their nose. They didn’t know. They actually didn’t know the answers to Whumper’s questions, they never had. They had been telling Whumper that since day one, obviously to no avail. There was nothing they could do to protect this boy, nothing they could say to spare him. A tear of frustration slipped down Whumpee’s cheek.
Whumper tilted their head at the display before standing up. Pulling a hammer out of the back of their waistband, they held it out.
“Go on, Caleb.” The henchman said, pushing him forward.
Caleb’s eyes flitted between Whumper and the henchman before finally settling on the hammer. Hesitantly, the boy inched forward and grasped the handle, hand dipping as he failed to anticipate the weight of the hammer when Whumper released it.
Whumpee watched on in horror, mouth bone dry.
Speaking gently, Whumper said, “go on over, son. They won’t hurt you.” Caleb shuffled towards Whumpee, a look of absolute terror on his face.
“Whumper. Don’t.” Whumpee begged with a look of despair.
“I’m not doing this, Whumpee. You are.”
Whumpee burst out in anger, “come do it yourself you bastard. This is fucking cowardly shit, Whumper. Bringing a kid in here.”
Caleb jumped at the volume of their voice and Whumper tsk’d disapprovingly. “Come now, Whumpee, there’s no need to scare the boy.”
Whumpee bit their tongue. As much as they hated it, they knew Whumper was right. If nothing else, they could at least try to minimize the trauma of the situation for the kid. Taking a deep breath, they looked at the boy and forced what they hoped was a reassuring smile. “Hey, Caleb. My name is Whumpee. I know you’re probably really scared right now, and you probably don’t want to do this. I just want you to know that whatever happens, this is not your fault. I understand that you have to do what they tell you. That’s okay. We’ll get through this together, alright?”
Caleb nodded slowly.
“Enough chat,” Whumper butted in. They crouched down beside the boy and spoke near his ear. “I want you to take this hammer and hold it up high over your head. Then, swing it down as hard as you can. But when you do, you’re going to aim for Whumpee’s knee. You can choose which one. Can you do that?”
Caleb nodded nervously, which made Whumper grin. “Wonderful.”
Whumpee tried to hide their fear from the kid as he approached them. They straightened out their leg reluctantly and braced against the wall. As an afterthought, they also pulled the collar of their shirt up and bunched it into their mouth to bite down on. Whumpee nodded encouragingly at the boy and closed their eyes.
For a few moments they were blissfully unaware, then pain shot through their leg. Whumpee clamped down on the cry that threatened to pass their lips. Luckily the kid had missed, hitting their thigh just above their right knee rather than the knee itself. Even so, it hurt like hell.
“Ahh, come on now, you can do better than that,” the henchman chided the boy. “Swing harder. And aim lower this time.”
Whumpee looked up at the kid to see tears streaming down his face. They tried to smile around their shirt but they were sure it looked more like a grimace. Caleb raised the hammer again and this time he didn’t miss. Unable to stop themself in time, Whumpee let out a muffled scream. Red hot pain seared through their knee and up into their hip. At the same time, everything below their knee turned to pins and needles. For a moment they could focus on nothing other than the pain. Finally, taking a shaky breath in and out, Whumpee attempted to regain their composure.
“Very good, Caleb.” Whumper spoke smoothly. “Now here.” They pointed to their hip bone.
The boy sobbed and swung the hammer once more. A loud crack and a moment of blinding agony was all Whumpee had time to register before their whole world went black.
Whumper sighed as they watched Whumpee slump over unconscious. Looking at the young boy, they huffed a laugh. “What’re you crying for? You did great! Come on, Henchman will get you some ice cream.”
Caleb stood frozen on the spot, staring at Whumpee in shock. Rolling their eyes, Whumper grabbed the hammer from the boy and turned him around by his shoulders. They led him from the room with one last satisfied glance back at Whumpee. This was progress, Whumper was sure.

Febuwhump Prompt Day 16: Semi-conscious CW: Concussion, blunt force trauma, head trauma
They blinked through the haze as they tried to piece together what had happened.  They were on the ground.
Why?
Well, they must have tripped on the sidewalk going to….
Where?
A friendly hand extended towards them.  They muttered something about their clumsiness.
Who?
They’re pulled on their knees as they wait for the wave of nausea to subside.  The friend mentioned something about them running.
What?
Something was wrong.  The friend mentioned something about no one coming for them.  The friend wasn’t a friend.  They needed help to come to them.
When?
When would they be free?

battlefield whump (other than simply “getting shot”) 💣
i am talking specifically about early 1900s-era battlefields. those vibes. but you can also alter it to be medieval war, or maybe even in a fantasy setting!
freezing cold, biting wind, icy sleet— covered in mud and blood and rain
field medicine!!
trying to comfort an injured/sick/dying fellow soldier when no help is coming
shrapnel. this can cause PROBLEMS. hundreds of pieces that get embedded everywhere throughout whumpee’s body? good shit
no pain meds, so whumpee has to bite down on a stick or a rag or something. maybe there’s alcohol to take the edge off— maybe not
friendly fire 👀 nonono think about it. it’s dark, or foggy, or storming— maybe one soldier has a head injury and isn’t seeing straight. they fire and hit whumpee. imagine the guilt. whump on both sides!!
caretaker comes across a wounded/dying soldier from the other side who has been abandoned by their platoon. what does caretaker do? do they sit down and try to comfort them? do they leave and let whumpee die alone?
blunt force trauma
being hit by tanks or other military vehicles
plane or helicopter crashes
internal bleeding from bomb blasts
infected wounds— sepsis, fevers, delirium, oh my!
just the isolation of being alone, maybe thousands of miles from home, scared and in pain.

So right now I have (gore cw nothing overly descriptive—heavy medical whump) vaguely from least to most extreme. Mix and match the below as you see fit, it’ll probably happen.
Basic medical tests (MRI, CT, basic diagnostics)
Blood draws
Slightly more severe testing (lumbar punctures, bone marrow testing, stuff that’s painful)
Sleep/food/water deprivation
Various drug trials
Stress positions
Drowning
Testing chemicals
Blunt force trauma (mild and extreme)
Purposeful incorrectly healing an injury (like putting a cast improperly around a broken bone without setting it so the bone heals wrong)
Burns (mild and extreme)
Broken bones
Minor surgeries
Developing poisons/antidotes
Forced to swallow inedible objects (such as magnets, glass, seeing how they can heal from that)
Small-scale amputation (like the tip of a finger)
Large-scale amputation (entire limbs)
Lobotomy
Extreme surgeries without anesthetic
Craniotomy
Organ removal
Let me know with any more ideas I’ll update as needed!
At some point the villain will develop a drug that will stall the Whumpee’s powers, and then they’ll do all this stuff again, and see how long after the injury is inflicted their healing will begin after)
Basically anything that can be done will be done. In the name of science, of course. Definitely not sadism.
Pretty much the limits I have on the Whumpee’s power is so long as their brain/brain stem is intact they can heal. If they are the medical equivalent to brain dead or worse, they can not heal. So long as their brain is functioning they can recover. Organs take a while to regenerate, long time. Like if they got their heart cut out they wouldn’t live, but if they lost a lung they’d be able to live long enough for it to regenerate.
The rate of healing depends on severity and energy—if have high energy and it’s something small like a scrape, it’ll be gone in a minute or two. Same injury, but they’re exhausted, maybe five or ten minutes. Pump them full of adrenaline and serotonin and cut off a finger, give it a few hours. Keep them awake and starved for days before, it’ll be more like a week. Their healing will continue regardless of the physical effects—even if it’s ultimately at their expense.
I don’t know what the hell im doing with this. If anyone has ideas or suggestions on any medical stuff behind this please let me know I’m making this up as I go.
