Imagine if the GIW started gunning for Jason without the Batfam ever meeting Phantom. Like, Bruce has to figure out on his own that the guys in white suits with Lazarus guns are 1. a legitimate government agency, and 2. are perfectly within their rights to hunt Jason like an animal, because 3. there's secret government legislation that says that since Jason's body processes ectaplasm, he's classified as non-sapient and has no legal protections.
Bruce calling up Clark like
Bruce: I am currently in the process of breaking into a government facility in order to dismantle their operations.
Clark: Okay? Do you need... help?
Bruce: Yes.
Clark: Sure, I'll be right there.
Bruce: Not that kind of help. Oracle is sending you the files now. I'd like you and Ms. Lane to make these people wish they were never born.
Clark: [speed-reading the documents] Oh yeah, can do. This is truly disgusting. If the public is half as outraged as I am, we'll get this sorted as fast as the courts can manage.
So Clark Kent acts as a whistle-blower, the Justice League publicly condems the Anti-Ecto Acts as inhumane, the GIW is disbanded, and Batman gets pardoned for all of those crimes that he technically did by assaulting federal agents. And after all that gets sorted, some white haired kid pops up in the Watchtower like "haha thanks for that I really didn't want a war between Earth and the Infinite Realms" and the League are like "wait what"

Increasingly, it is not safe to be in public, to be human, to be fallible. I’m not quoting breathless journalism about rising crime or conservative talking points about America falling into ruin. The ruin I’m thinking of isn’t in San Francisco or Chicago or at the southern border. The ruin is woven into the fabric of America. It’s seeping into all of us. All across the country, supposedly good, upstanding citizens are often fatally enforcing ever-changing, arbitrary and personal norms for how we conduct ourselves.
In Kansas City, Mo., Ralph Yarl, a Black 16-year-old, rang the wrong doorbell. He was trying to pick up his younger brothers and was simply on the wrong street, Northeast 115th Street instead of Northeast 115th Terrace, a harmless mistake. Andrew Lester, 84 and white, shot him twice and said, according to Ralph, “Don’t come around here.” Bleeding and injured, Ralph went to three different houses, according to a family member, before those good neighbors in a good, middle-class neighborhood helped him.
In upstate New York, a 20-year-old woman, Kaylin Gillis, was looking for a friend’s house in a rural area. The driver of the car she was in turned into a driveway and the homeowner, Kevin Monahan, 65, is accused of firing twice at the car and killing Ms. Gillis.
In Illinois, William Martys was using a leaf blower in his yard. A neighbor, Ettore Lacchei, allegedly started an argument with Mr. Martys and, the police say, killed him.
Two cheerleaders were shot in a Texas parking lot after one, Heather Roth, got into the wrong car. One of her teammates, Payton Washington, was also shot. Both girls survived, with injuries.
In Cleveland, Texas, a father asked his neighbor Francisco Oropesa to stop shooting his gun on his porch because his baby was trying to sleep. Mr. Oropesa walked over to the father’s house and has been charged with killing five people, including an 8-year-old boy, with an AR-15-style rifle. Two of the slain adults were found covering children, who survived.
At a Walgreens in Nashville, Mitarius Boyd suspected that Travonsha Ferguson, who was seven months pregnant, was shoplifting. Instead of calling the police, he followed Ms. Ferguson and her friend into the parking lot and, after one of the women sprayed mace in his face, according to Mr. Boyd, began firing. Ms. Ferguson was rushed to the hospital, where she had an emergency C-section and her baby was born two months early.
And sometimes there is no gun. On Monday, Jordan Neely, a Michael Jackson impersonator experiencing homelessness, was yelling and, according to some subway riders, acting aggressively on an F train in New York City. “I don’t have food, I don’t have a drink, I’m fed up,” Mr. Neely cried out. “I don’t mind going to jail and getting life in prison. I’m ready to die.” Was he making people uncomfortable? I’m sure he was. But his were the words of a man in pain. He did not physically harm anyone. And the consequence for causing discomfort isn’t death unless, of course, it is. A former Marine held Mr. Neely in a chokehold for several minutes, killing the man. News reports keep saying Mr. Neely died, which is a passive thing. We die of old age. We die in a car accident. We die from disease. When someone holds us in a chokehold for several minutes, something far worse has occurred.
A man actively brought about Mr. Neely’s death. No one appears to have intervened during those minutes to help Mr. Neely, though two men apparently tried to help the former Marine. Did anyone ask the former Marine to release Mr. Neely from his chokehold? The people in that subway car prioritized their own discomfort and anxiety over Mr. Neely’s distress. All of the people in that subway car on Monday will have to live with their apparent inaction and indifference. Now that it’s too late, there are haunting, heartbreaking images of Mr. Neely, helpless and pinned, still being choked. How does something like this happen? How does this senseless, avoidable violence happen? Truly, how? We all need to ask ourselves that question until we come up with an acceptable answer.

genuine question, do you think callout posts are inherently evil? like if someone's doing some weird shit and hiding it i think people would want to be warned about that at least. just try to discourage harassment as much as possible
The existence of a callout posts means that the targeted person will be harassed if enough people see it. There is no amount of "don't harass anyone mentioned in this doc/video" disclaimers that will prevent that. The post is now potentially a permanent record that anyone can cite for years into the future. You are now at the whims of unknown strangers to be banned from communities, kicked out of creative projects, or be blocked by friends, at any time with no warning. I would consider this to be harassment, but to people who don't know about how these things usually go down they would be seen as righteous whistle blowers.
No matter what you actually did, if your awkward interaction with someone was too sexual, or if you stated a shitty opinion about a complex topic, or if you misjudged someone's boundaries, or if you engaged with kink in a way that made someone outside the scene uncomfortable, you are now a predator. I have seen firsthand the game of telephone starting from "this person did/said something sexualized on an online platform where teenagers could have been present," to "acted creepy around teenagers," to "regularly sexually assaulted children," to "pedophile".
Callout posts do not actually stop the person from "doing weird shit". It depends on what you mean by "weird shit", but if you mean "secretly draws/engages with Bad Porn", which is what a lot of callout posts are about, I implore you to recognize that it is truly not your business to know every private action someone takes just because you follow them on social media. This applies to awkward interactions people have in private too. Sometimes it's patterns of abuse, but a lot of the time it's interpersonal drama that is not anyone else's business.
If by "weird shit" you mean that someone has demonstrated ongoing patterns of real emotional/financial/sexual/etc abuse, and it's something that cannot be handled by any other means (either privately or with legal action if relevant), then in those cases a callout post can potentially do more good than harm if it reaches the people that need to know about it.
The level of long-term mental anguish that a target can go through is absolutely no fucking joke. A callout post has the potential to be a gun to someone's head, especially if they're socially/mentally/physically disadvantaged to begin with, which conveniently describes the most likely people to be targeted with high profile callout posts. [This is because: 1.) Our communities are wayy more likely to self-police than the rest of the internet and 2.) there are groups such as kiwifarms that love when a trans girl does something they can suicide bait her with and they also love it when we infight, isolate, and attack each other.]
I don't think callout posts are inherently evil, but they do nothing to make the target not continue their unwanted behavior. The only good function a callout post can serve is to warn potential future victims. If there are no victims, no behavior that will DIRECTLY lead to someone being victimized, no scam being uncovered, no patterns of abuse being shared, then the only victim is the target of the callout post. Everyone else involved is just gawking at gossip and/or contributing to suicidal levels of anxiety to a stranger.

Okay! There is some talk about how Cucurucho might have had their memories reset, which is why they're reintroducing themselves, asking islanders the same questions over and over again, and why they took Foolish's gun despite them (Somewhat) getting along.
This has happened before. Roier has noticed that Cucurucho acts strange and inconsistent despite them getting along with each other.
So fans have concluded that this odd behavior is from memory loss. Likely done by the Federation to prevent Cucurucho from forming attachments or emotions.
But! There is one constant that remains with Cucurucho despite the memory reset.
Jaiden remains as Cucurucho's favorite.
Since day one, Cucurucho has been incredibly sweet and nice towards her, with no explanation as to why.
They've given her gifts, such as the blue parrot, the blue chairs, some flowers, and gave even Jaiden her own bubble blower.
Jaiden is the only one that Cucurucho allows to pet them. Either hitting or building away from other players that do so.
Usually, when Cucurucho hurts someone, they do so on purpose, or they just don't care who they hurt. Doesn't matter who you are, Cucurucho has no qualms about hurting others. Hell, they were forced by The Federation to apologize to Roier after they treated him poorly.
But Jaiden? Jaiden is the only one that Cucurucho avoids hurting. While taking Foolish's gun away (Which supposedly happened after the memory reset) Cucurucho shot Jaiden by accident, and they immediately responded by putting away their gun, shaking their head, blowing bubbles on her and throwing a healing potion on her. All this is VERY expressive, which is unlike the cold and emotionless white bear we know.
So why? Why are they so nice to her? Is the Federation trying to manipulate her? Could it be that the Project Blue Bird theory is more spot-on than we thought? Or is it simply because she's the only one who is genuinely nice to them?
Another interesting bit is that Jaiden herself seems to have some memory loss. She can't seem to recall where she came from, nor why is she on the island in the first place.
Idk. It could be that Jaiden simply didn't have any backstory planned for her character, and I'm just reading too much into this.
But who knows. You have no idea what else could happen on this island.

Quote
An Illinois man was charged with murder after fatally shooting his neighbor during an argument. Ettore Lacchei, 79, allegedly approached William Martys, 59, as he cleaned his yard the evening of April 12 with a leaf blower, and the two men got into an argument before the older man took out a gun and shot his neighbor in the head, reported the Lake & McHenry County Scanner. “Once again, easy access to firearms has turned a dispute into a deadly crime," said Lake County state's attorney Eric Rinehart. "We will support the victims and seek justice in the court rooms."

Mkay, so I just woke up & I feel like spitting some facts today while I’m still in my BATDR hyperfix, especially since I’m pretty sure not a lot of people have this idea as well & I wanna get it out there somehow.
So…
The Ink Demon is like… written SO fucking well in this game, or at least as I interpret it.
& I figured this shit out like GRADUALLY.
The first tid bit that hit me like a fucking truck was how CANONICALLY the Ink Demon is in DESPERATE need of any kind of love and affection. While it’s hinted at a little bit in the games, the smoking gun comes from the VOICE ACTOR FOR INKY HIMSELF Sean Crisden.
Tumblr media
Yes, I looked through his entire Twitter to find this again just to prove I’m not insane.
Like… even if Sean isn’t caught up entirely on the lore, there’s no reason he would say this only knowing the Ink Demon through his lines. After all, my guy has to be told about the character to voice him, so for him to address this pretty much makes it as close to being confirmed officially as we can.
The second thing that hit me like a truck was the YouTuber Pastra’s review video on the game, where he details how the Ink Demon’s mocking in the last chapter is towards HIMSELF, not Audrey, & he’s just projecting all HIS shit onto her.
Not even I caught this, since I always thought Inky was right about the “your life is a lie” thing due to her not being fully human.
Tumblr media
But then Pastra emphasized the “mistake” bit. Audrey wasn’t a mistake, far from it. The Ink Demon, BENDY, was. HE was a mistake, born solely to be a living mascot to entertain, & when he came out WRONG, he was locked away, neglected, abandoned by the man who created him.
So he looks at Audrey, someone who was made by the same man who made him, someone who was treated so much better because of how she came out “perfect”, & tries to bring her down on the same level as he is by berating her.
& while this is stretching a bit, him comforting her at the end feels a bit like he’s trying to comfort himself, tricking himself to believe there is SOMEONE like him, someone who was ABANDONED & lied to, & thus giving Audrey the opportunity to live so he can indulge in that comfort.
It’s a BIG stretch, but god DAMN is it a gut puncher!
Like I’m sure he also did it to manipulate her & shit, but like… he can have MORE than one reason to do shit, & if he really did try to comfort himself like that, if that really is true… then I’m gonna fucking sob, man.
BUT THAT IS NOT FUCKING ALL!!
Cause I got ONE MORE mind blower I had, mainly (but not entirely) on my own after that one!!
& it has to do with Baby Bendy.
A LOT of people think Inky got his mind split in two when he was imprisoned as Baby Bendy due to how different he acts around Audrey.
But I beg to differ.
I think the Ink Demon is ABSOLUTELY still conscious & in control as Baby Bendy. He just couldn’t do shit to anyone before Audrey came about & accidentally freed him (cause I am ALSO subscribed to that theory Pastra addressed in his video), so he just minded his own business.
Perhaps his new emotional responses spoken of in the Keepers’ tapes come from him being more powerless & vulnerable where the only thing he COULD do was cry.
& the reason he acts so friendly towards Audrey once she meets up with him near the city? Because she was kind to him, she actually gave a shit about him. She apologized to him about hurting him & wanted to take care of him.
Tumblr media
NEVER in Inky’s life has he EVER had someone genuinely care about him & his well being, something he always wanted from ANYONE but never got. So when he finally has that opportunity with Audrey, he jumps to it, going along with it, even if he desperately didn’t want to visit the Gent labs again.
More evidence of this is detailed in a post by @jupiter-jellies titled “Ink Demon VS Vesty” which I really like (I apologize for the tag, I don’t know if there’s an easier option to showcase the post itself, but I still wanna credit you nonetheless) as it makes sense of the sequences of events that happen from when Baby Bendy first joins your party to when he disappears & the Ink Demon comes to stop you from entering the Keepers’ area. Seriously, that shit blew my mind when I read it cause it explains WHY Baby Bendy went missing & why the Ink Demon would try to stop Audrey from going THERE in particular.
It just makes sense that the Ink Demon was still HIMSELF in both forms, he just acts differently to compensate for his lack of powers & to be given the love & affection he always wanted.
… But then it gets sad.
Cause the more I thought about it, the more fucked up it became. The ONLY time the Ink Demon EVER got someone to reach out to him & make him feel cared for… is when he’s in a “perfect” form. Only when he was cute & innocent & TRAPPED against his WILL could he be EVER loved, that if only he came out RIGHT in the first place, then he would DESERVE all the love that Audrey offers him.
If Joey & the others neglecting & abusing him when he came out wrong when he was JUST created didn’t solidify this idea in his head, Audrey treating him like a friend in his “perfect” form & an enemy in his true form DEFINITELY sealed the deal to him.
& it only gets worse.
I was re-listening to Joey talking to Audrey at the tail-end of the game to try & snap her out of the dark mindset Inky put her in when I realized something.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Ink Demon was RIGHT THERE, listening to his abuser talk directly to AUDREY the ENTIRE TIME, telling her how she was loved & how she’s not this monster, that she was his pride & joy, his ONLY success…
& that PISSES Inky off.
In INKY’s point of view, only after Joey had a creation that WASN’T an abomination did he suddenly have a change of heart, that all it took was to get something he always wanted to be a better person as he completely ignores his biggest mistake that was RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM.
That… has GOT to sting, really bad, to feel abandoned AGAIN in favor of the “better sibling” that Audrey was.
I have a feeling that he didn’t crush Joey SOLELY so he couldn’t get through to Audrey. I think he also did it because he couldn’t take LISTENING to him talk like this anymore, to be reminded that he was a failure that didn’t deserve the love that Audrey got, & lashed out to shut Joey up.
This is ALL very headcanon-y, but… it really does paint the Ink Demon in a more complex & tragic light.
The Ink Demon was NEVER just a mindless monster that killed whatever it wanted on sight. He was capable of emotion, & he could’ve potentially been capable of being something so much more if only he got the proper care & reassurance he DESPERATELY needed.
& GOD I love his character for it, he’s my favorite character in the game BY FAR because of this, GOD I hope this is canon so I can give massive props to the writers for this game!!

Falling in love with Jake Seresin again is far easier than you’d ever expected it to be. It helps that you don’t have to get to actually get to know him again. But you do have to rebuild the trust he has in you. At the beginning, after the first night of your second marriage, as you’ve taken to calling it, you’d walk into a room and Jake would startle and look at you like he couldn’t believe you were still here with him. It had been one of the many ways you and Jake had needed to heal together after seven years apart. You’d cried, you’d laughed, and god, had you fought numerous times over the first months you were back in Pigeon Creek. It wasn’t just your relationship that you’d had to contend with rebuilding after all. You’d had to rebuild your brand after relocating to Alabama. Jake is still building Deep South Glass. Obviously, the Bradshaws hadn’t helped at any step of the way. The wedding that you’d nearly had with Bradley Bradshaw had been the gift that kept on giving. Somebody had given the press present your cell phone number and you’d been getting phone calls from anonymous numbers asking for your statement once the articles about the Mayor of New York calling you a bitch had hit circulation, along with professional video from the videographers Carole had hired.
But you’d stayed with Jake, taking the media storm as the first test for your relationship. It was difficult, especially once the press got a hold of your marriage license from when you were eighteen and then proceeded to mob Deep South Glass fighting for a chance to interview your husband. But the challenge was well worth the effort, especially when you have the chance to tumble into bed with Jake every night. Soon enough, the media forgot, choosing to focus on Bradley’s budding relationship with none other than Callie Bassett, and you fell in love with your quiet life in Pigeon Creek again. It wasn’t too quiet, though, not with Natasha flying down every chance she got. But she doesn’t fly down to Pigeon Creek to see you. Instead she flies down to see you, and also to see more of Bob, which is a relationship you never would have expected. It makes you happy to see your best friends in love with each other. You also adore having Natasha in town as often as she is.
It’s been a year since your disastrous wedding to Bradley Bradshaw fell through. You’ve set up a deal with your old mentor, sending him designs in the mail and are working on creating your second full collection. It makes you happy to be creating in a place where you feel so happy. Deep South Glass has grown a colossal following and Jake has presided over three store openings across the South East. There are even talks about opening a shop and store-room in California. Artisanal Glass-blowers and Glass sculptors across the nation want to become a part of Deep South Glass.
Despite the hype, he still makes lightning sculptures on the beach on stormy nights. You always join him. Of late, though, you curl up with Bryant under a blanket, safe and sound in the cab of the truck. It’s overprotectiveness on Jake’s part, coupled with a hearty dose of fear. One late-term abortion was more than enough for the both of you, so you don’t argue anymore when he pleads with you not to lift things or to stay in the car during his lightning storms. He does allow you to join him in the truck though, because it’s tradition at this point for you both, and because you know he secretly enjoys the thermos of hot chocolate you always pack as well as spare clothes and towels.
You’ve got a towel in your hand when Jake opens the door and lets in a cold draft. Bryant burrows even closer to your belly and you smile sleepily up at Jake from within your warm blanket nest.
“I’m so glad you’re not out in that tonight, Lin.” Jake towels himself off roughly after tugging his shirt off. He splatters you with cold rainwater, and you burrow even more under the warm blanket. His chuckle makes you smile as he pecks your pursed lips and downs a full thermos cup of the hot chocolate you hand him.
“You’re smiling at me now, darling, but it’s cold out there.”  To prove it to you, he pulls you into his lap and his fingers like ice when they dip under your shirt and make contact with the warm skin of your belly.
You squeal and gasp at the contact and choke out, “Ice, Jake! Your fingers are ice! I was perfectly happy and warm in here, you know? You also woke the baby up! I just got her to fall asleep and not kick my ribs like she was trying to play soccer!”
“M’sorry Lin.” You know he is sorry, especially when he draws the blanket up around you both and his calloused fingers massage slow, warm circles across your stomach.
Instead of letting him apologize, you pull him into a kiss, slow and sweet, content in your perch on your husband’s lap. When you pull away, you hum in pleasure, soothed and sleepy just from the massage, and your growing daughter is fast asleep in your womb.
“Have I ever told you how beautiful you look like this?” You press a kiss against his collarbone and smile.
“Every day, Jake. I don’t think you’ve stopped telling me how beautiful I am or how much you love me. You tell me every morning when I stagger into the bathroom, practically sprinting, because our baby girl is dancing on my bladder. You tell me when I’m bedraggled, covered in charcoal and pastels, and sleepless because one of my designs isn’t turning out how I can see it in my mind’s eyes. Above all else, you tell me when I’m scared out of my mind and worried that my body’s going to mess up all of our hard work again.” Jake’s eyes glint in the light which lances down to meet the lightning rods you’re a safe distance from. “I fall in love with you every time, too.”
“I didn’t tell you those two facts enough the last time.” His voice still hitches thinking of that dark time in your life as well as the seven years that followed. “I’ll never know if by saying those words to you, it would have made me enough for you to stay.”
“You’ve always been enough for me to stay. I ran away from you because I couldn’t face myself anymore. But we’ll never know if you telling me you love me would have changed anything. All we can do now is live our lives together, just you and me, with our baby girl and Bryant. All we can do is live as a family, love as a family. We can’t afford to think about the what-ifs in our lives, the ways different decisions would have changed the past. But we can learn from the mistakes we made.” You sip carefully on the hot chocolate, relishing in the warmth sinking into your veins as Jake holds you just a bit closer.
“I love you so much, Linley Seresin.” His lips press gently against your temple. “I’m never letting you go ever again.”
“I’d revolt if you tried to let me go now, Jacob Seresin. You’re in this for life now. Anyhow, I’m going to need you to help with half of the feedings and diaper changes once our little miss makes her appearance.”
“Always.”
When you fall asleep that night wrapped around a hideously expensive pregnancy pillow with Jake’s arm around your waist, you are incandescently happy. If only that young girl leaving Pigeon Creek all those years ago had the faith in Jake and in your love that you do now. Maybe it’s true what they always say. Home is where the heart is. You’ll never forget that now.

ficlet: W.A.R!Enjolras's birthday party
roughly a bajillion years ago, i said i'd write donation fics for people who gave to abortion related causes. i flagged out about halfway through but i'm back, baby, and i'm determined to fill those requests.
this is for @sharki-leftishark, who was curious to see a birthday celebration in the W.A.R universe, either enjolras or grantaire. so today i bring to you enjolras's birthday, following the events of W.A.R. i never did figure out the month in which this story takes place, so please feel free to mentally set it whenever your own zodiac headcanons dictate.
ETA: and many thanks to @consultingreaders and @give-me-a-minute-to-think for the speedy and helpful beta!
Senior year
Maybe three-quarters of the way through opening the presents, Grantaire realizes that Enjolras is saving Grantaire’s gift for last. Enjolras tosses aside the paper from the hardbound journal that Marius got him, thanks Marius with real earnestness even though it’s the third variation of a notebook he’s received today, starts to reach for Grantaire’s sloppily wrapped bundle, sees the tag, and then his hands stutter instead toward a shiny package that turns out to be from Joly.
The package contains some sort of board game. Courfeyrac insists that the game is “Risk in space, it is so clearly Risk in space—we’ve been over this, people. Enjolras is not allowed within ten yards of a pretend army, remember? We voted?” and then Joly waves his cane at Courfeyrac, shouting, “People change! Also it’s a cooperative game, we’d be harnessing the laser eyes for the power of friendship and community!” and a lively debate ensues.
Grantaire follows some of it. He’s mostly trying not to think about how Enjolras, who believes in self-discipline and delayed gratification and all that shit, apparently considers Grantaire’s contribution to be the grand finale of this whole experience. Enjolras, who loves his friends so much. It’s heady to consider: the height of Enjolras’s expectations and the chance of maybe not meeting them, a quick swoosh up and then down. Not that Enjolras would ever be a dick about it or anything, but they’ve been dating, for-real dating, for months now, and if Enjolras doesn’t love the present, Grantaire will probably know.
After a lifetime, the presents-opening resumes. Feuilly has set up an appointment for Enjolras to interview a real-life union leader. Combeferre contributes a tidy set of books by someone named bell hooks. Courfeyrac’s offering is a gift certificate to the impossibly cool indie movie theater two towns over as well as a bubble gun blower, which immediately sparks off another round of debate.
(“Oh, so fictitious simulated pretend armies are verboten, but you get him a firearm?” Joly manages between laughs.
“One that shoots soap bubbles, you maniac!” Courfeyrac shoots back.
“At least it would be a clean kill,” muses Combeferre, and Eponine’s eye roll would be slightly more convincing if they hadn’t clearly slipped away during the division of the birthday cake to make out.)
And then, well. And then it’s Grantaire’s turn. To see his present opened, not to sneak off to swap spit with his boyfriend, which come to think of it sounds infinitely better, and not just because Enjolras’s dedication to self-improvement extends to learning how to kiss Grantaire to the point of incoherence in under five minutes.
Enjolras unwraps the paper carefully and shakes out the fabric. It’s a T-shirt, emblazoned with the words “ENJOLRAS 2024: ARE YOU BRAVE ENOUGH TO CHANGE THE WORLD?”
“For the campaign,” says Grantaire. “I did the math and that’s the first year you can run for president.”
“You need to be thirty-five,” says Enjolras. A smile is flickering at the corner of his mouth.
“I know,” Grantaire tells him. “I looked it up because I had to know the first year I could vote for you. I cracked open my Government textbook for you, so like. Feel honored.”
“We had Government last year,” Enjolras seems to feel compelled to point out. “When did you—”
Grantaire can feel his face burning. He’s not even sure why, really. “Last March,” he says.
“When you first started pretending to date,” Musichetta fills in with relish. Now that it’s public knowledge among their friends, she brings it up whenever she can.
“I thought you were maybe out of your mind,” says Grantaire, “but like. I don’t know. You’re clearly gonna be somebody. And, uh. You had my vote. And still do, obviously.”
Enjolras is turning a little red too. “You should probably see what the other candidates’ positions are before you make that call,” he mumbles.
Grantaire’s heart soars. He shakes his head. “No way, I’m a single-issue voter and my one issue is ‘how much is this guy like Enjolras?’”
Enjolras ducks his head. He lays the T-shirt down carefully, next to the pile of books and notebooks. He opens his arms. Enjolras, who, now that the dating is real, isn’t really about public displays of affection.
“This is so sweet I think I’m going to actually throw up,” says Eponine as Grantaire steps into the hug. He squeezes hard. Enjolras squeezes harder.
“I like you so much,” Enjolras murmurs into the side of his face. “Also, you’re the one who’s out of your mind, nobody just runs for president—”
“Sure,” says Grantaire, “You gotta be twenty-five to run for House of Reps, so 2014’s the first year you’d be eligible. Now, U.S. Senate, you need to be thirty, so you can run in 2018, when it just so happens a seat will be open—”
Enjolras kisses him on the mouth.
