Imagine if the GIW started gunning for Jason without the Batfam ever meeting Phantom. Like, Bruce has to figure out on his own that the guys in white suits with Lazarus guns are 1. a legitimate government agency, and 2. are perfectly within their rights to hunt Jason like an animal, because 3. there's secret government legislation that says that since Jason's body processes ectaplasm, he's classified as non-sapient and has no legal protections.
Bruce calling up Clark like
Bruce: I am currently in the process of breaking into a government facility in order to dismantle their operations.
Clark: Okay? Do you need... help?
Bruce: Yes.
Clark: Sure, I'll be right there.
Bruce: Not that kind of help. Oracle is sending you the files now. I'd like you and Ms. Lane to make these people wish they were never born.
Clark: [speed-reading the documents] Oh yeah, can do. This is truly disgusting. If the public is half as outraged as I am, we'll get this sorted as fast as the courts can manage.
So Clark Kent acts as a whistle-blower, the Justice League publicly condems the Anti-Ecto Acts as inhumane, the GIW is disbanded, and Batman gets pardoned for all of those crimes that he technically did by assaulting federal agents. And after all that gets sorted, some white haired kid pops up in the Watchtower like "haha thanks for that I really didn't want a war between Earth and the Infinite Realms" and the League are like "wait what"

Ghost From the Past pt. 6
"Danny, why did you bring us to Gotham?" Tucker asks as Danny's trying to show his friends some of his toys, ignoring Tucker's question completely. "Danny?" Sam asks, as he looks to the ground. "Plan J." He whispers as Tucker gets out his phone. "Plan J? How in the hell did you get a meeting with the Justice League?" Sam asks, obviously having no problems swearing in front of a little kid. "JJ." Is all Danny says, as Sam and Tucker stare at him. "Hello, My name's Jason, some people know me better as Red Hood." Jason says as the two friends nod. "Yeah, okay, makes sense." Sam says as Tucker nods. "You guys are awfully calm about all this." Jason says as Sam shrugs. "When you're best friend gets turned half-ghost at 14, and then gets turned back into a baby at 15, you get used to the weird pretty quickly." Sam says as Tucker nods. "When's the meeting?" Tucker asks, as jazz checks her watch. "We're supposed to be to Wayne Mannor in thirty minutes." Jazz says as Tucker nods. "Cool." He says, as Danny crawls into Sam's lap. "Can you guys come?" He whispers as she nods. "Of course, we're coming Danny." Sam says, bouncing him on her knee.
"Miss Nightengale, Mr. Nightengale, Master Jason, and guests, welcome. Master Bruce is in the sitting room." Alfred says as the group comes into the house. "Alfie, this is Tucker and Sam, Danny's friends." Jason says as the group is led to the kids' living room. "Jason, I thought I was just going to be you, Jazz, and Danny." Bruce says as Sam and Tucker look at Bruce Wayne. "He's batman?" Sam asks, as everyone freezes. "Nah that makes sense, remember we had bets." Tucker says as the two look at Danny, he won, and by his smirk he knows it. "Did you have help in placing your bet?" Sam asks as Danny shakes his work. "Pawpaw wouldn't help even if I asked him." Danny says, as he pouts. "Does that mean they bet on all the bats?" Jason asks Jazz as she groans. "I take it you lost?" He asks her as the three turn to Jazz. "No Jazz won at least one of them." Tucker says as Danny looks to Dick. "It is an iconic Ass, for a cheater." Danny says as everyone else laughs as Dick's face becomes red. "What?" He shrieks as Jazz shakes her head. "I'm so sorry." She mumbles as the bats laugh. "Oh my god." Steph weezes as Danny smiles at Jason, who smiles back. "Can he even call you a cheater?" Tim asks, as Danny turns to him. "I was born in Gotham." He says, as he looks a little older then he had a few minutes prior. "Fair, alright, so shall we get to the meeting?" Dick asks, as everyone nods, following the boys down to the cave.
"I am not going in there." Danny says, as he holds Jazz's leg. "Danny, it's the safest way to get to the watchtower." Jason says, as he looks up at Sam and Tucker. "We'll be okay." Sam says, as he nods, holding her hand. "Why'd he freak out at the zetatube?" Tim asks, as Jazz watches the three kids go through the tube. "It looks like the machine that my parents built." She says, as she holds her head up high and walks through.
"Uncle John!" Danny shouts as Constatine turns around to see his niece and nephew. "Danny? Jazz?" He asks, as Danny hugs him. "I didn't know you'd be here." Danny says as John holds him. "You're the reason all hands on deck were called for the JLD?" He asks, as Jazz nods. "I see, so you found your brother, huh, little tyke?" John asks, tickling Danny. "Yeah!" Danny says, as the rest of the justice league is shocked to see John so caring. "I see." John says, as the rest of the bats come through. "Constantine?" Red Hood asks, as John smirks. "Hey there, brother of the ghost king." John says, as Danny is put down, going to Sam and Tucker who are getting the presentation set up. "What do you need me to do?" Danny asks, as sam smiles sadly. "We need you to tell them what the fentons and GIW did to you, Danny." She says, as he nods. "I don wanna." he huffs, as Sam bends down to his hight. "We know you don't wanna talk about it, Danny, and I'm sure the other evidence we have will be enough for them to get started on shutting down the GIW and getting rid of the anti ecto acts, but, if they have a first hand account of what they did to another dimension's ruling monarch, then it'll speed up the process." Sam says, as Danny crosses his arms. "Hey, Danny, you know how you love Martian Manhunter?" Tucker asks, joining their circle. "Yeah?" Danny asks, as Tucker nods. "Do you remember how brave you said he was for telling the world what happened to him?" Tucker asks, as Danny nods slowly. "This is your chance to be brave like him, to tell the world what's happened to you. To get justice and protection for your people." Tucker says, as Danny takes a deep breath and nods. "Otay, I'll tell 'em."

Hollywood stars pick their favourite January blues-busting movies
Kristen Stewart, Jamie Dornan and George Clooney give us their feelgood film tips
It’s Blue Monday – officially the glummest day of the year – which may soon be followed by Torpid Tuesday, Weepy Wednesday, Thankless Thursday and a variety of other patience-testing days, as we muddle through these wintry, Covid-hit times. So to help banish the gloom we asked some of our favourite actors and filmmakers – from Kristen Stewart to Succession’s mighty Brian Cox – to recommend spirit-lifting movies to settle down to while we wait for this whole January thing to blow over. And they didn’t disappoint.
‘Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar is my favourite! I think I’ve seen it forty times and I still sweat laughing at it.’ – Kristen Stewart (Spencer)
‘My favourite film is The Court Jester. It’s one of the funniest films ever made. It didn’t do very well when it opened but it’s become a classic. Danny Kaye is extraordinary.’ – Brian Cox (Succession)
Tumblr media
Photograph: ParamountBrian Cox stans for Danny Kaye in The Court Jester
‘Watch Network again! Everything (screenwriter) Paddy Chayefsky wrote about in 1975 came true.’ – George Clooney (director, Tender Bar)
‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s is always one. It’s such a cliché but I could watch that a million times. Is it because of the cat? It is! Poor old sad old cat with no name.’ – Caitriona Balfe (actor, Belfast)
‘Airplane! always makes me laugh. The sweating scene, “I had to ask the guy next to me to pinch me”, the nun and the intravenous drip... all good.’ – Jesse Armstrong (creator-writer, Succession)
‘It’s probably a comedy for me, something like Anchorman, although I get a lot of comfort from watching Kramer vs Kramer, even though it’s fucking sad.’ – Jamie Dornan (Belfast)
Tumblr media
Photograph: DisneySarah Snook’s favourite genie
‘I love the animated Aladdin. I skip forward to Robin Williams’ bits because the genie always cheers me up.’ –Sarah Snook (Succession)
‘I watched The Sopranos during lockdown and now we have a dog called Tony. I don’t know whether it puts you in a fantastic mood, but it’s involving.’ – Jarvis Cocker (The French Dispatch)
‘I love Edward Scissorhands. It’s just a work of art. It’s weird, he’s the outcast and he’s not accepted. I love everything about that.’ – Kodi Smit-McPhee (The Power of the Dog)
‘Spartacus is the greatest film ever made. It’s about incarceration, obviously, but it’s also about how the underdog can succeed over adversity and it’s a good socialist story.’ – Jason Flemyng (Boiling Point)
‘I also have to watch a lot of kids films so they cheer me up as well: Snow Dogs and things like that. I don’t have control of the remote.’ – Steven Knight (screenwriter, Spencer)
‘I recommend a film called I Know Where I’m Going! by Powell and Pressburger. It’s set in the Hebridean island and it stars Roger Livesey, who was Colonel Blimp.’ – Dame Judi Dench (Belfast)
Tumblr media
Photograph: ParamountThe Addams Family
‘The Addams Family. Morticia and Gomez Addams are the sexiest couple, and the world makes total sense even though it’s completely bonkers.’ – Rupert Friend (The French Dispatch)
‘It’d be a Barbra Streisand movie. I love Funny Girl, I love Yentl and I love Funny Lady. Barbra is beautiful and I’m an actor because of her.’ – Sean Harris (Spencer)
‘Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Gene Wilder’s forward roll is the best entrance ever in a film.’ Stephen Graham (Boiling Point)
‘This is Spinal Tap. It’s full of comic genius.’ – Peter Capaldi (Benediction)
‘The Squid Game is amazing and dystopian. Maybe its value is helping us to see what’s going on in a different light.’ – Steve Park (The French Dispatch)
Tumblr media
Photograph: ShutterstockJudi Dench’s pick is Powell and Pressburger’s I Know Where I'm Going!
‘I love Tootsie, it’s so hopeful. They don’t make movies like that anymore – where people were allowed to just be messy and the camera would hold the frame and people were just alive. It always makes me happy.’ Mireille Enos (Hanna)
‘Ball of Fire, 1941, with Gary Cooper and Barbara Stanwyck and directed by Howard Hawks. Check it out, you’ll love it.’ – Alan Ruck (Succession)
‘The Jerk just makes me laugh. It’s so clever and it always puts a smile on my face.’ – Grant Heslov (producer, The Tender Bar)
‘My favourite film is Master and Commander. I’m absolutely obsessed with it, because I’m obsessed with seafaring and sailing and adventure. I also love the relationship between the two main characters – played by Paul Bettany and Russell Crowe – because relationship between two men is so rarely shown on screen. We need more films like this: big daft films that make you smile.’ – Jack Lowden (Benediction)
‘Mine are all musicals: Singin’ in the Rain, On the Town and The Pajama Game. Pajama Game is wonderful and it has two of the greatest numbers in cinema: ‘I’ll Never Be Jealous Again’ and ‘Steam Heat’. I couldn’t live without them.’ – Terence Davies (writer-director, Benediction)
Remember… (I Know Where I’m Going!) is set in the Hebridean island and it stars Roger Livesey, who was Colonel Blimp. — Dame Judi Dench

Ok, so I remember Dragon coming up with a Chloe DP au, and for some reason that combined in my head with your post about Vlad and the rich kids and the S4 spoilers so... imagine Chloe at Vlad’s party during a ghost attack, feeling depressed and useless and generally just thinking about being replaced. somehow she ends up in Vlad’s lair, self reflecting in front of the portal when it gets hit by a power surge. Most of the class just sees her being carried out to the ambulance, but 2 know better
Me: “I need to work on all my other fics.”
Also me: “Time to work on several pages of Chloé half dying!!! And another bootleg version of one of Dragon’s AUs!”
Vlad and Danny are on kinda friendly terms in this mostly because I wanted to write them snarking at each other.
Chloé was glad to get out of Paris for a while. A decision her father had made after, well. Certain incidents. Making her feel unsafe in Paris. So she was sent away to a place without Hawkmoth or Akumas.
Smoothing out the skirt of her pale yellow, nearly white, dress, she contemplated the place she ended up.
She would have been prepared for New York. But of course Audrey said she was too "Unexceptional" yet. But as Audrey had to go on a business trip to meet other rich business people at some fancy party, Chloé's dad convinced her to take her to this place.
Not that business parties full of other rich people were something she really wanted to deal with. They were usually too condescending at best. A few of them could be creepy. Giving her looks that made her want to take a shower for a year.
It was almost enough to make her want to stay in Paris. But the one thing that made her decide it wouldn't be too bad was who was hosting the party.
Don't get her wrong. Vlad Masters definitely gave off some strange and downright intimidating vibes. But the few times Chloé had met him at events like this, he was one of the few adults who seemed to respect her, despite her age. And he only used his threatening vibes on any of the other men looking at her.
That said, Chloé wasn't expecting much conversation with Vlad. They didn't usually talk much anyway, just polite conversation common at these things. And as Audrey was currently attempting to engage with him, almost as if she were blocking Chloé from getting near, it was unlikely she would.
"If you're going to commit a murder could you wait another twenty minutes? I have a bet going."
Chloé jumped, realizing someone was speaking to her. When she found who, her initial instinct was to glare. Blue eyes and black hair making her think of someone else.
However, as she took in the rest of the context, she found someone new. And male. A boy about her age.
"Who are you?" Chloé asked.
"Head of security," the boy said.
It was obviously a joke, from his tone and lopsided grin. And Chloé almost laughed at the idea of a teenager being any kind of security.
But she noticed the way he stood, the way he analyzed her. It reminded her of Adrien, in a way. Seemingly all smiles and laid back, but far more capable than he looks.
There was something else about him too. It actually reminded her of Vlad. The general vibes he gave off. But Vlad felt more… firey. Heat under his skin, waiting for the temper to snap. This boy felt more cold. Not emotionally, but like a snowfall that could quickly engulf you in a blizzard.
"I think a name would be better," Chloé said.
"Call me Danny then," the boy said, offering a hand.
"Chloé Bourgeois," she replied, politely taking it. "So, judging by the fact that you didn't give me your last name, you don't want me guessing who you're connected to."
"You probably wouldn't know them," he said. "My family's known for their studies on the paranormal. They're scientists. And not really the kind for this kind of party."
"But you are?" She raised an eyebrow.
"Absolutely not," he said. "But hey. Vlad's trying to buy his way to an apology by giving me money if I hang out and make sure nothing spooks the guests. Other than him, of course. Might as well put it in my college fund. So, you actually planning a murder or not?"
That almost made her laugh. A small smile on her face, Chloé's gaze drifted across the room to her mother.
"No murder yet," Chloé said. "If I do kill someone, it'll be the local supervillain back in Paris."
"Heard something about that," Danny said. "My parents keep debating on checking it out. It's obviously paranormal and magical, but they specialize in Ghosts."
"Are they the Ghostbusters?" She did actually laugh at that one.
"Something like that," he chuckled.
All of a sudden, Danny stiffened up. It had to be a trick of the light, but she could've sworn a mist came out of his mouth. He frowned, looking around carefully.
"Sorry, I have to go," Danny said. "A disturbance in the garden. See you around."
"Yeah, see you," Chloé sighed.
As he ran off through the crowd, Chloé wondered how he knew about the "disturbance". Maybe he was actually part of the security team and had an earpiece in?
Brushing the thought off, Chloé grabbed a drink from a passing waiter. Then she headed the opposite direction.
She wanted some time alone. It had been nice, talking to Danny. But the party was still overwhelming. She might be out of Paris, which meant less stares and whispers. But still too much interaction for her liking lately.
Chloé headed out of the main ballroom. Few paid attention to her. Those that did were quickly dragged back to their conversations.
As she wandered the halls, Chloé wondered if she could get lost in here. If her mother would notice. Maybe she could just. Not go home and just secretly live in Vlad's mansion.
A tempting idea, if she could figure out how to do it. But for now, she settled for exploring.
There was a library. Very nice. Bookshelves along every wall, except for a spot for a fireplace. Comfortable chairs and a couch to read on.
She looked through the bookshelves. It seemed well stocked, despite the impossibility of ever reading them all. Most were nonfiction, texts on various subjects. A few seemed to be typical fiction, though Chloé didn't inspect those too close lest she judge Vlad's collection of trashy romance novels.
What intrigued her was one large shelf, right across from the fireplace. These books actually looked well-used. Texts on the paranormal. Hadn't Danny said something about that? Between this and the familiarity with Vlad, perhaps it was a family-friend situation.
Dragging a finger along the spines of the books, she picked one at random. Pure curiosity more than actual interest.
The book was soon dropped and forgotten when the shelf slid open to reveal a doorway.
Now that had her curious and interested.
A look over her shoulder at the door, and Chloé was in the new room. No, a new hall of stairs. Descending down stone steps.
She was suddenly worried she would find some sort of kinky dungeon type place. Perhaps she should quit while she was ahead.
It was the buzzing in her fingertips that made the decision for her. Something… familiar.
It wasn't like the buzzing she felt near an Akuma, or near someone using a Miraculous. No, this felt more like Vlad. Like Danny. Whatever she was feeling from them, there was more of it down here.
Eventually the stairway opened to a room. It looked like a laboratory of some kind. Weapons and tools of shiny metal and magenta accents lined the walls. There were a few that traded magenta for green, but not as if two people consistently shared a space. More like one occasionally left objects behind.
The one thing in the room that was overwhelmingly green and not magenta was against one wall.
It almost looked like a doorway of sorts. Or a Magic Portal, really. Swirls of green that she couldn't see into. And if she hadn't spent the last year and a half being attacked by Magical Supervillains and becoming a Hero herself, she would've assumed it was just a large tv screen embedded in the wall for aesthetics.
The reminder of her time as a Hero brought back some bitter memories.
She might not have been the best person, but she was a good Hero. Chloé would have gladly continued being Queen Bee, despite the risks, because she had felt like she finally found a purpose. But Ladybug told her no, she couldn't have the Miraculous anymore. For her safety of course.
What a joke. Not only had Chloé been in more danger without it, as there was no way she could defend herself against Hawkmoth. But the other Heroes were still active, even with their identities known.
With a sigh, Chloé attempted to distract herself. Walking around the room and investigating the weapons around the lab. They were strange. She wasn't a gun expert, but these didn't look normal. Not regular guns that shoot bullets.
Were they alien weaponry? That didn't seem right. Chloé wasn't an expert, having never met an alien(as far as she was aware). But the weapons seemed very based on Earth designs, their sizes intended for average Human use. Maybe weapons for Humans to use on nonhumam creatures.
Whatever it was, Chloé was now a bit curious. What did Vlad get up to when he wasn't hosting business parties like this? Did he perhaps moonlight as a superhero? With that Danny kid as the Robin to his Batman? Perhaps she should stay. Be the Jason Todd of the family. Though with less dying.
She almost laughed at the idea. But as a crack of thunder rang through the mansion, loud enough to be heard from this basement laboratory, she jumped, instinctively spinning around to look for an attack.
A second crack of thunder, and all the lights went dark.
Chloé was not afraid of the dark. She never had been, even as a child.
But she was afraid now. Because this wasn't a normal blackout. In a mansion like this, there would be emergency generators. They didn't kick in, which meant this was likely something else.
Amity Park was different from Paris. No Hawkmoth. No Akumas. But that didn't mean there was no danger.
And the thing Chloé had become afraid of, after so many Akuma attacks and even Hawkmoth himself coming to her home, her room, and confronting her. The thing she was afraid of was being unable to fight back.
Her breath began to quicken, the only noise she could hear in the dark room. Heart hammering in her chest, Chloé tried to calm herself down. This wasn't Paris. Whoever or whatever it was wasn't after her.
But what if it was? What if this person had decided she would make a good target? What if Hawkmoth had followed her, hoping to get revenge for failing him as Miracle Queen? What if it was someone else, furious about what she had involuntarily done, knowing that if something happened here, Ladybug's Miraculous Cure would be too late?
Hands trembling, Chloé remembered the weapons on the wall. It wasn't her Miraculous, but it was something. She refused to go down without a fight.
The only problem was that, in her panic, she had gotten turned around she couldn't remember which was she was facing.
Blindly choosing a direction, Chloé kept a hand out in front of her, slowly moving it back and forth hoping she'd hit a wall. Her ragged breathing and the click of her heels on the floor being the only sounds. A good sign, she hoped.
Her hand hit something. A wall, she thought. Somewhere to her left. Keeping her hand flat against it, she hoped to follow it until she found the weapon rack again.
She kept walking, barely noting how the sound of her footsteps changed from heels-on-tile to heels-on-metal. Had the floor been metal? She couldn't remember. The stairs up had been stone so obviously she was still in the lab.
The lights suddenly came back on, the blackout over. Yet Chloé wasn't nearly as blinded as she should have been by the sudden brightness. It was coming from behind her. Had she somehow found a different hallway out of the lab?
As she turned to head back to something familiar, a different brightness flickered on. But she was completely unaware, as all she could focus on was pain.
Burning, crackling under her skin. Through every inch of her. Worse than anything she had ever felt, as Civilian, Hero, or Akuma.
The pain began to subside. Not going away, but no longer the intense agony. Just an ache, but as if she had run a marathon around Paris without being transformed. Her throat still burned the worst though. Had she been screaming? She couldn't remember doing so, but it seemed likely given the pain.
Stumbling forward, she managed to find herself back in the lab. Yet her vision was blurry. So blurry, in fact, that when she looked down her white dress appeared black.
The pain and exhaustion was too much for her. Pitching forward, everything went dark again.
--------
The next thing Chloé knew, she was somewhere soft. Everything still hurt, which made her not want to move. But she could hear two male voices arguing.
"You should let me explain it to her."
"You will confuse and scare her with your morbid humor."
"And you'll just freak her out!"
"I have more experience in this."
"Not in explaining it!"
"I explained it to Danielle."
"And I explained it to everyone else because you had to be a fruitloop!"
"Are you still using that insult?"
"It still fits."
Registering that she should probably see what's goin on, Chloé went to get up.
Her right arm must've slipped off whatever she was laying on, as she almost immediately slammed back down. The feeling that had her jolting upright instead of trying again to be slow, was that it felt like something hit the inside of her arm?!
Inspecting the limb, she didn't find anything wrong with it. It was there. No burns or bruises. The worst thing was a chipped manicure.
As her gaze went further up her arm to her shoulder, she noticed something. A discoloration in her skin. It was hard to see, having to look nearly straight down and only being able to see what skin was showing. But there were thin lines across her shoulders and chest. She couldn't tell how far they went up her neck, or how much further they extended under her dress.
The lines looked almost like lightning. It was then that she remembered the lab. The pain. But she swallowed down her fear.
"Well say goodbye to swimsuit season," Chloé muttered, her voice still a little shaky and her throat still raw.
"Perhaps your humor will be helpful after all," one of the voices from earlier mused.
Chloé jumped, having completely forgot that there were people in the room. One was Vlad, the other was the "head of security" kid. Danny, wasn't it?
"What happened?" Chloé asked.
"You received quite a shock," Vlad replied.
"Oh, and my humor is too much for her," Danny glared.
"Kind of used to puns in horrifying situations," Chloé said. "One of my best friends loves making puns to deflect dealing with things."
And okay yes she also did that. But she was not going to tell them that. Even if the looks they gave each other probably meant they guessed as much.
"Where am I?" Chloé asked, looking around.
"One of the guest rooms," Vlad explained.
"Not a hospital?" She asked.
"A hospital isn't quite equipped to handle… this," he said.
"One of the guests was a doctor who did a general checkup," Danny said. "She was sure you probably just fainted from low blood sugar or something."
"And… and my mother?" Chloé asked.
"She is back at her hotel," Vlad said, visibly bristling. "I may not be father of the year, but her lack of concern is appalling."
The exasperated look Danny gave him said there was a long story there. Chloé wasn't sure she wanted to hear it right now.
"So why would a hospital be bad?" Chloé asked instead.
"That is quite a story," Vlad said. "Do you know what you were messing with in the laboratory?"
"I know it had weapons," she said. "Then the lights went out and I tried to find my way around."
"I think that makes her smarter than both of us," Danny said.
"I didn't enter an unstable device on a dare," Vlad glared. “I knew what I was doing.”
"You stuck your face right up to a prototype device not knowing if it was stable or not," he retorted. "You're lucky you only half died.".
Vlad glared at him again. Chloé could have sworn he man's eyes flashed red. It was more than just a trick of the light.
He said a hospital wasn't a good situation for her now. He implied that he'd had something similar happen to him. And those books on the paranormal, leading to a lab…
Vlad wasn't Human. At least not anymore. Danny wasn't either, most likely. And Chloé realized, with mounting horror, that she probably wasn't either.
Once more she focused on her hands. What… was she now? Chloé flipped through her knowledge of the paranormal. It couldn't be a Vampire or Werewolf. She didn't get bit or infected with anything. Most other creatures she could remember Humans becoming had very specific circumstances or longer processes.
Then, she recalled something Danny had said. His family deals with Ghosts.
As if to confirm her suspicions, her hands flickered out of existence. An involuntary whimper escaping her throat.
"I… I'm dead, aren't I?" Chloé asked.
"Only half way," Danny said.
"That is nowhere as reassuring as you think it is," Vlad said.
This time it was Danny's turn to glare. But his eyes flashed a green color instead of red.
Meanwhile, Chloé was having a crisis. She died. She fucking died. But she was still here.
She was vaguely aware of their voices. Both males had come closer, sitting beside her on the bed. She knew one, or maybe both of them, was telling her to breathe. To focus.
She tried to focus on how strange it was, sitting between them. One burning, one freezing. Was that related to… This?
It helped ground her. Remind her that she wasn't alone.
"That's right," Danny said. "You're not alone in this. Which is already better than what we got."
"You could have had a mentor," Vlad said.
"But you were still evil back then," he smirked.
Oh boy oh boy. This was going to get oh so complicated.

Could I get uhhhh some headcanons for slashers with an s/o that loves to sing? Maybe Vinny, Jason, and Brahms at least? :3
I’ll do it for all the slashers I write for lol, I have so much free time and want to do a big ‘ol headcanon post :3
⚠️ THIS IS A LONG ONE. JESUS I WROTE SO MUCH. ⚠️
Slashers with an S/O who likes to sing headcanons
Vincent Sinclair
Tumblr media
The first time Vincent heard you singing in the shower, he’d stop dead in his tracks. His first thought would be ‘how could someone sound that angelic?’. It would take him a moment to realize it was really you who was singing that beautifully.
He’d be too shy to confront you about hearing your voice. He knows that if you ever found him singing he’d be humiliated.
Finally you catch him listening in, and he’s mortified that you’ll hate him. When you actually offer to sing for him whenever he wants, his heart melts.
Now, he’s asking you to sing while he works instead of listening to his usual music while still making sure you don’t lose your voice.
Your singing helps him get to sleep, too, so when he’s having bad insomnia he’ll ask you to sing to him and it works every time.
Bo Sinclair
Tumblr media
He’d hear you singing one day when he came home early from working at the station. He’d come and find you in the kitchen, then he’d lean against the doorway and wait for you to notice him.
When you do, the nervous smile you give him makes his heart flutter. He’d say something along the lines of ‘that throats good for more than just one thing, huh?’
He’d ask you to sing from time to time, but you’ll usually just start singing on your own, and every time you do he makes the same dirty joke, or some similar variation of it.
When he’s bored he’ll hum with you, but he’ll never sing. Unless you somehow get him drunk, then he’s a kareoke GOD.
He’ll never admit to it, but his favourite moments ever are when you sing him to sleep. He gets bad insomnia from time to time, and when he does get it, it’s really bad. You help him a lot, and these are the times you’ll usually get a few moments of calm singing along from Bo.
Lester Sinclair
Tumblr media
Absolutely amazed when he hears your voice for the first time. How can anyone sound that perfect??
He’ll yell at Bo and Vincent to ‘shut the hell up and stop ruining the music’ whenever they make any noise at all if you’re singing.
He’ll start wanting to bring you around when he’s working more. The music on the radio all sounds the same, and it’s all distorted because of its poor signal. Your voice is 10x better and it’s clear.
He’ll sing with you from time to time but he’s a lot more self conscious about his voice than you are, so it’ll take some buttering up before he gives in.
Praises your voice 24/7, even if you aren’t singing. His opening line when the two of you run into anyone new on the road is ‘this is my girlfriend, her voice is really something!”
Michael Myers
Tumblr media
As silent as a mouse, Michael had arrived silently in your shared home at unholy hours of the night. He expected you to be fast asleep, but instead he heard your voice dancing through the hallways. He’d creep upstairs and approach your room, emerging from the shadows to listen closer.
He immediately falls in love with you voice, he didn’t know you could sing like that. His mother used to sing to him as a child, so your voice brings him back to his past when he was loving and human.
It brings out his domestic side and makes him really want to cuddle you. He’ll lay his head on your chest and listen to the vibrations of your voice as they leave your mouth.
He won’t make a sound, afraid to prompt you to stop. He’ll listen for as long as you can sing.
Your voice calms him in instants. In the middle of a heart argument? Sing, and he’ll calm right down and rarely even apologize.
Jason Voorhees
Tumblr media
You’d be singing one day while walking ‘alone’ in the forest (of course he’ll follow you, he has to keep you safe), and his heart will implode instantly. He’ll follow behind you as long as it takes for you to notice him, and then he’ll ask you to sing again by tapping your throat gently.
He loves the way your voice sounds when it echoes through the big, empty forest. He’ll take you on walks daily, thinking that’s the only time you’ll sing for him.
Sooner or later he wills up the courage to ask you to sing for him at home. You’re glad to, and you sing while he holds you tightly in his lap, rocking the both of you back and forth to the tunes you create.
He doesn’t let you sing when trespassers are on the property. Your voice is only for him, not scum like them.
He’ll come back from his hunts covered in blood and seething with rage and adrenaline that only your singing can soothe.
Brahms Heelshire
Tumblr media
Your voice will get him to reveal himself sooner. He’ll be watching you through the walls as you sing to his doll persona, and he’d accidentally start to sing along as well, scaring your half to death.
After you’ve come to terms with the real him, music time would be switched with singing time, and both of you would sing together.
Brahms adores your voice, and tries his best to use a voice that matches it well. He plays piano as you sing, too.
If it were possible he’d want you to sing forever, but he’ll settle for the designated singing times, and the odd time you’ll sing while making dinner or going to sleep.
You can use your voice as a bargaining chip. “Oh, you won’t shower? Then you’ll get sick, and that’ll get me sick and I won’t be able to sing!” It works every time.
Billy Loomis and Stu Macher
Tumblr media
You’d be singing in the car when Billy suddenly shuts off the radio. You’d obviously stop singing and he’d look like a hurt puppy. “Why’s you stop your singing, beautiful? I didn’t want that crappy radio to ruin it.”
Stu would lean on your shoulder, flashing you puppy dog eyes that match those belonging to Billy. You’re a little nervous at first as they stare expectantly, but soon they’re humming along and hugging you tightly.
Billy would never touch the radio again, nothing rivals your voice so he doesn’t care for it.
Stu would ask you to record your singing so he could listen to it whenever he wanted.
Both boys would insist you sing whenever you’re cuddling or trying to sleep. There’s no escaping their pleas, they will act like they’re dying if you don’t sing.
Danny ‘Jed Olsen’ Johnson
Tumblr media
The moment he heard you mumbling to your music under your breath he asked you to sing a little louder. He’d known you’d be a great singer since your normal voice was so pretty already.
He’ll give you his expensive recording equipment so you can record your singing for him, and he’ll listen to it during his hunts. It’s his new favourite genre of music.
He starts to be somehow more clingy. He’s always with you, asking to hear that pretty little voice of yours.
He’ll sing with you, even if he isn’t as good as you are. There’s no one to hear you in his hidden shack, so you can belt your lungs out til your throats are sore.
And that’s exactly what he’ll do. He’s horrible at limiting his volume, so he always has a sore throat after the two of you sing together.
Norman Bates
Tumblr media
Wow. W o w. He’d be completely stunned, froze in place. You’d realize he was staring and he’d feel horrible, rushing out that he was just admiring your gorgeous voice, and then he’d be more ebarassed by voicing his thoughts.
Your voice would be his new favourite thing. He’d do anything to hear you sing, bringing you breakfast in bed, doing all of the house cleaning, etc.
His ideal date would be a dinner that ended with your singing and dancing, simply swaying side to side as your voice set the perfect romantic vibe.
He’d become much more affectionate and confident when you’re singing. Your voice makes him feel romantic.
He’ll close his eyes and take in every note, every change in pitch, memorizing your perfect music.
Bubba Sawyer
Tumblr media
He’d stop what he was doing almost immediately. It doesn’t matter what it was, your voice shifting in the angelic way it was, that was more important to him.
Your singing is the ultimate way to calm him when’s he’s sad, scared or angry. Yelled at by Drayton? Some tunes will help! Hurt by a trespasser? Don’t worry, you can heal him with your voice!
God forbid he ever gets sick, you’d be held at his side, singing until he was 100% better. Surprisingly, your voice actually seems to help him get better soon.
Bubba’s brothers like it too, save for Drayton. He’ll act like he doesn’t like it, but it’s better than whatever crap ChopTop likes to play.
Bubba will apologize forever and ever for the fact that he can’t sing along. No matter how many times you say you understand he still feels bad
(It says I reached the image limit, so no gifs for these last two :/)
Thomas Hewitt
He thought he’d never care for music until he heard you. He always thought music would give him headaches like the loud buzzing of his saw sometimes does, but then he heard you.
You actually soothe his headaches tremendously.
He has no idea how you get your voice to sound like that. His is so deep and rough and he has no idea how to control it like you can.
He’ll try to have you teach him but when he finds out you can’t because you sing a completely different octave he’ll be a little bummed.
He’ll settle for listening to you whenever he feels too tired to work or whenever his skull pounds with pain.
Billy Lenz
He’d heard you sing drunk kareoke with your friends, but he’d never heard you sing so... beautifully. Billy would wonder why you don’t sing like that more often.
He’d crawl from his usual home in the attic to ask you to sing more. You saying no here is the one time he’ll respect you going against his wish without a tantrum, but if you say yes he’ll drag you to the couch and burrito you both in blankets together.
He’ll sing along as best as possible, though he can’t flow between words like you can.
When he’s having a mental breakdown he’ll drag himself from the attic, a crying, sobbing mess, and he’ll crawl into your bed with you. You know immediately what he wants, and you hug him tightly, singing quietly as he calms.
When you sing he feels more sane, more grounded, as if you’re reversing all of the bad things that have happened in his life. He feels like a normal man with a perfect S/O.

Past 1, 3, 6, 8 for Jason my beloved and Present 5-8 for Jenny annnd Future 2, 5, 7 for Helena! 😏
─ JASON
1. Briefly describe the way their parents grew up, and how it affected the way they raised them.
Both his parents were two regular middle class new yorkers, Frank (his dad) grew up in New York's suburbs and had a very conventional upbringing, he was the middle child of three siblings and thus kind of ignored so he usually just minded his own business... that very much carried over into adulthood, he was very reclusive and didn't really bother spending much time with his family -_-
Jason's mom, Gina, was a 2nd generation italian-american who grew up in a huge family with a billion siblings and cousins who are all very different from her husband. She liked it in the beginning but she became more and more unhappy and kind of underwhelmed. She really projected all her dreams of ever becoming someone on her kids that failed with her because she was stuck in a boring marriage with the most unambitious and boring man ever 😑
3. Describe their family. Who raised them, and who had the most impact on them? Did they have any siblings? Who were they closest to? What were the family dynamics like?
This ties in with the previous question but Frank was a bit of a loser, not particularly attractive and more timid & shy.. he was a very unambitious guy who worked a boring office job all his life without any intention of climbing the ladder. He really spent most of his time off work with his boring little loser hobbies :/
Gina was a much more spirited and lively person than her husband, Jason takes a lot more after her than his dad. She wasn't a great mother by all means due to the fact that she was unhappy in her marriage and with her life and kind of took that out on her kids, in a way where she placed certain expectations on them which Jason never really met. They weren't particularly close due to Jason's more.. rebellious nature he had as a kid, which in turn made him cause more trouble because that was the only way his parents gave him any attention at all :/ He also has an older brother, Richard, who their mother very obviously favored. Frank didn't really give a fuck about either of his sons -_-
He had a very close relationship with his mother's family though, particularly with one of her brothers. Carlo (said uncle) was a lot like him and never had any kids on his own so he became somewhat of a father figure to Jason :-)
6. Did the location they grew up in affect them significantly? Do they still go there?
He grew up in some little house in New York's suburb, not the prettiest house there because they didn't make enough for one of the nicer looking ones. He's not that fond of the boring suburbs (even in Boston), he spent more time in the city with his relatives and preferred that over his actual home. Other than that it didn't affect him much 🤷‍♀️
8. What was their childhood/teenage bedroom like?
A small little room with an ugly sports wallpaper that his parents never bothered to replace as he got older. It always looked a little messy and had a few mismatching mid-century decorations and furniture in there. As he grew older he started to cover the walls with random posters he had, to hide the ugly baseball wallpaper.
─ JENNY
5. What kind of people do they usually interact with? Who are their friends, the people they look up to/trust, and who are their “associates”?
She interacts with all sorts of people in New Bordeaux' criminal underworld - if you do anything illegal chances are you'll know Jenny. As for her actual friends, she's friends with the 3 other criminal 20 year olds in town, Danny, Lincoln, Ellis, unfortunately Giorgi (frenemies would be more fitting) and Lena. Her closest and best friends would definitely be Gavin (of @dannyburke fame)and Juliet (of @jennystahl fame) though, they're also pretty much the only ones who would fall into the "people she trusts" category... they're the only ones she'll have long weed induced therapy sessions at 1 am while the monkees are on tv.
6. What is their current relationship with their family?
Complicated... the love is there and all that, it's more of a business relationship though rather than a parent-child thing, especially with her dad. It's nothing that she ever questions (until aforementioned therapy sessions with her friends), she grew up in an environment where affection isn't really something she sees often and almost all her friends have messed up relationships with their parents too so while there is some resentment she never really questions that the way they raised her might not be ideal :c
The relationship with her siblings is complicated as well, especially because they're both a LOT younger than her. She was an only-child until the age of 13 and moved out of her childhood home when they were eight and six years old so there's this weird disconnect but there's a relationship nonetheless, which is weird. Eldest daughter AND only child disease 😓Not to mention that her parents are looking to make her little brother head of the family because he's a boy or whatever.. drama!
7. Do they have a partner? How did they meet, and what’s their relationship like now?
Yes.. she and Ellis met on some random job in the Hollow in 1963 that her dad was taking her along with (he and Sammy did random deals together and were also good friends 😌) and Jenny was like wow how boring. What if I just talk to this this guy's sons instead.... she thought he was some annoying teenage guy and only really talked to him whenever necessary (when her dad's business trips to Sammy's got REALLY boring). She forced herself to hang out with him more after Lincoln went to Vietnam and realized he's not so bad so they became friends :)
In actual game canon nothing really happens because he dies, Jenny just becomes sad that her friends were killed (him, Danny, Sammy and maybe Michael too because of Juliet connection.. she doesn't give a fuck abt Giorgi anymore that little rat can die) and wonders if she liked that goofy little guy with the ugly shirts, but in any case it's too late now.
We're doing au's here though (also this is as of '68) so in the good timeline they get together in 1968.. sort of. It's not a friends with benefits thing, more that sort of relationship that you know will end sooner or later for various reasons, so you're kind of living in the moment and have fun while it lasts. It IS genuine and not just about hooking up from time to time of course, it's just not the kind of thing that was built to last because it's based off of a dumb 20 year olds friendship and one of them (Jenny) doesn't really plan on sticking around in New Bordeaux. But well, who knows what will happen 😏
8. What hobby or pastime of theirs do they consider most important to them and why?
Well, she's big on making music, she plays the guitar and sings (she has a pretty nice voice c: ), she grew up in a pretty fucked up environment so that was her sort of escape in her youth, to be a normal kid who's playing the guitar very very badly. She doesn't play it badly as a 23 year old anymore of course and it's a little thing she shares with her best friends so that means a lot to her 😳
─ HELENA
2. Are they content with their future situation? Is there anything they would change?
Well, she's certainly not happy with the whole vampire situation - her dreams of becoming famous for acting were pretty much ruined, now she's legally dead and nothing more than a photo on true crime blogs and conspiracy theory websites... Famous but for the wrong reasons, in a way she's more bitter about "dying" before she had the chance to become famous than about the whole vampirism thing herself. There would have been something incredibly poetic about a beautiful young actress dying at the height of her career, now she's just some random nobody :/
It could be worse though. She's known among L.A. vampires for her lack of loyalty to any of the factions (despite her working for the Camarilla earlier) and her just helping whoever she feels like which is fine to her, most of them will just leave her alone. In any case, she's not in Los Angeles anymore after the events of Bloodlines!!
5. Did they get married or have a family? Why? If otherwise, why not?
See she would like to get married eventually, making a promise to love someone and be with them for eternity (literally... because... vampires) is incredibly romantic and she would love that (THIS is her wedding... not really because she's not that cringe but also.. yeah), so who knows what might happen.
Family though, no!! Starting one isn't possible, at least not with biological children since she's a vampire. It doesn't bother her that much, she always did envision herself with one child in the future but she's not desperate to be a mother anyway so she doesn't beat herself up about it. She does wonder what it might be like to have children and laments it from time to time (she's a little overdramatic) but overall she doesn't mind that much.
7. Are their friends still a part of their life? Are there people they are no longer in touch with, or newly important people?
Yes, sort of! As I mentioned before she's not in L.A. anymore post-bloodlines and she never had many friends there to begin with so she keeps in touch with the few she has there. She miiight make a few new (or old) connections once shes out of Los Angeles too, who knows!

Note
So this is a new one of these and the other one is probably over so yeah
It's a weird Christmas.
It marks a year since anyone last saw Sonny, a year since Julian's death, and a year full of drama, as one would expect.
Michael and Willow had had another child, a girl this time. Her name was Ophelia and Wiley loved being a big brother to her. The pair had also burned their annulment papers when they'd realized she was pregnant and finally admitted their feelings for each other. Watching them together had probably been the highlight of the year for their family.
Sam had started hooking up with Dante much to the chagrin of, well, everyone. It had started as a few random hookups but changed quickly into an actual relationship, testing several familial bonds.
Luckily, that disaster on wheels had been halted when Lulu had woken up from her coma. Lulu and Dante got back together and fell in love, again.
Sasha and Brando had formed a relationship as well, which was quite a surprise at first glance but made sense after a few weeks.
"Carly? You okay?" Jason asks. Surprisingly enough, she hadn't completely broke down yet, or ran away. The furthest she'd ran was the island and even then, it was only a few hours no one knew where she was, since he couldn't teleport and it took that long to get to the island.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Just thinking," she responds, faking a smile.
"Tell that to the tears in your eyes and obviously fake smile," he says to her. "What are you thinking about?"
"It's been a year since any of us have heard from Sonny. For all we know, he's dead. Hell, he probably is. I know I should give up and just agree to a funeral, but it feels wrong to do that without a body," Carly sighs, head in her hands in an effort to hide her tears. "It feels wrong for him to not be here. Last Christmas, we were convinced he'd be home by now and now it's like we've all resigned ourselves to him being dead."
"If it doesn't feel right to have a funeral, don't have one. I've known you for a long time, and your instincts are right a lot of the time. Just because Sonny's not confirmed dead doesn't mean he's not," Jason frowns, putting his arm around her and rubbing circles along her back.
Sonny's "death" meant he had to step up in more ways than one. This had marked the year of Jason running the mob, which he'd practically been doing before but was actually doing now. He'd also had to become sort of a surrogate husband to Carly to the point he practically lives there by now. The kids hadn't questioned it; they'd asked a few times if there was anything going on there but after getting a firm no there hadn't been anything else from them in forms of questioning their relationship status. It was what it was and that was the same friendship they'd always had.
There had been times even Danny had questioned why they were at that house so much, to the point he once asked Carly if they were together or not.
You know it's reaching an odd point when a twelve year old is asking if you're in love with your best friend.
Of course, they didn't take into consideration the fact the whole town thought they were together. Again. Everyone had assumed, based off of how much time they'd been spending together- surprisingly more than normal- and the fact that he'd all but moved into the house that they were together.
That was a fun one to realize when he'd gotten shot and everyone had assured her that her boyfriend would be fine.
It just wasn't happening, they were friends. Anything more could complicate it and complicated almost always meant that there would be fights they couldn't go to each other to uncomplicate.
"I know that, but I just don't want to live knowing that there's a chance he could be alive somewhere and he's been kidnapped or forgotten his name or something. It's like I'm stuck in this neverending circle where there's barely any hope but I can't pretend there's none either. Sometimes, I wish that the police would show up with a body and I would have to confirm that yes, he is dead, just so that I could get out of this loop," Carly sobs. "And then I feel terrible for wishing he was dead because I love him, you know, but then at the same time, I can't help but feel like I need closure."
"That's not a bad thing, to need closure. None of us get any closure when it comes to this, Carly. You're not a bad person for wanting some," he reminds her. "You've been grieving for a year a man you don't even know for sure is dead. It doesn't make you bad to want to have something definite."
"But wanting my husband dead? That's dark," she argues with him.
"You want to know if he's dead or alive, something to confirm what's happened to him. I hate to break it to you but you don't qualify as a terrible person," Jason chuckles. "You've never killed someone, never hurt a kid."
"I shot a dude in open court, I almost killed AJ. I've done a lot of questionable things in my life, Jason," Carly fights back.
She's not wrong, persay, but she's not right. "That stuff doesn't make you a bad person. Morally grey? Yes. Bad? No. You do what you think is best and you're impulsive. If something's not going your way, you'll tip the scales. It's just how you are. None of that makes you a bad person. Some people might not like it, but you've never killed someone or hurt a kid, so in my book you're a good person."
Carly's head comes out of her hands for a minute and he smiles, wiping away the tears. "Well you're not a bad person either. You'd never hurt a kid and you only kill in self defense or if the person's really bad and threatening someone you care about. It's not like you wake up and go kill someone for shits and giggles. You mourn the people you kill and feel bad about it. Only a purely horrible person wouldn't feel bad about their murders."
"Neither of us are bad people, let's just agree on that at least."
"Fine," she relents finally. That only took a year. "I miss Sonny. Especially this time of year. Last year, he read Donna and Avery the Grinch and he had the world's worst Grinch voice. I practically begged him to read another book because of how bad it was. But this year, I wish he would be able to read it to them."
"I miss him too," Jason admits. "It's been a hell of a year without him."
"That it has. So much has changed," she agrees with him, shifting her position on the couch so she's lying her head on his lap.
That's probably why the kids thought they were dating.
He plays with her hair as she laughs, remembering some obscure detail about his telling of the Grinch and decorating for Christmas.
Scratch that, this is definitely why everyone thinks they're together.
"Hey Mom, Jason," Joss greets them, coming in from the kitchen. "I'm going to Trina's. Donna's with Ophelia at the Quartermaine's and Avery's with Ava."
"Alright sweetie, have fun," Carly bids her daughter goodbye, sighing. "Why is she so adult now? I mean, I can remember when she was born and it feels like yesterday. Hell, Michael's birth feels like yesterday. And they're both so grown up."
"Time flies when you're having fun," he answers.
"Where'd you get that? A throw pillow or some advice of my mother's?"
"A card someone sent me back when I was in the hospital. Needless to say, that card got tossed in the trash as soon as you'd let me stand up to go to the trash."
"Who the hell sent that to you of all people?"
"No clue. It didn't have a name attached."
"Huh. Well, it's a terrible expression. Too throw pillow. The real answer would be that we're aging, sadly," Carly sighs again, equally as dramatic. "Granted, I still look like I'm 27, but somehow I've aged."
"Age is but a number."
"You sound like a Hallmark card."
"Rude."
"You do!"
"Well, if it makes you feel any better, I'm aging as well. You're not in this whole getting old thing alone. Provided, of course, that you agree to age," he smirks.
"I don't have anything better to do, sadly, so I suppose I'll agree to getting older. But I refuse to have a gray hair."
"Then go to the salon when you notice one and dye your hair."
"I plan on it," the blonde smiles at him before changing the topic. "Do you think we're weird?"
"That came out of nowhere."
"Answer the question."
"No?"
"That sounded like a question."
"Carly, how am I supposed to answer this one? I don't know, maybe?" Jason says, though most of it comes out as a question.
"Well, I mean, think of it. Sonny's been presumed dead for a year. You've been in charge of the business and been there for all of us in more ways than I can count. Seriously, I think Donna sees you as a father," Carly chuckles. "And you've listened to me crying and losing it. Hell, you spent a month and a half at the island just so I wouldn't be alone."
"Hey, you're family. I was happy to do all of those things. Besides, you wouldn't leave my side when I got shot. Or for a very long month after that," he jokes.
"I know but you didn't have to do that. You didn't have to step up and parent the kids. You already had Danny and Scout and the breakup with Sam to deal with, that's a lot at once. Not to mention, taking over the business and grieving Sonny. And dealing with me. All at the same time," she smiles. "Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful, but you had no obligation to do any of that."
"Carly, do you think I'd be here right now if I didn't want to? You know me better than that. I love you and the kids and want to be there for all of you. So far, I've only gotten shot once and that was unrelated, so I'd consider this a pretty good experience."
The blonde scoffs at him and he chuckles. "Not funny. You could've died."
Rolling his eyes, he reminds her, "I didn't."
"Well you're not allowed to get shot for a long time."
"I'll take getting shot off of my to do list."
"Don't you dare joke about this!"
"Alright. Look at me. I'm not going to die anytime soon. I promise. It takes a lot more than a measly bullet to kill me, after all. Not even Russian madmen could do it," he says seriously.
"Good. Because if you do that to me again, I'll have no choice but to resign myself to a life in either prison or Ferncliff," she says half seriously, getting a laugh out of Jason.
It's not entirely unrealistic she'd end up in one of those positions, especially given that it's already happened. Repeatedly.
Maybe there's a sign she should stop doing dangerous things.
Almost as though she's being told to by something inside her, Carly connects her lips with his.
to be continued
why do i get myself into these things smh

'Dear Evan Hansen' Movie to Hit Theaters in September
Tumblr media
Like so many beloved Broadway shows before it, Dear Evan Hansen is becoming a movie. The hit musical, which won six Tony Awards, will be adapted for film, with Ben Platt reprising his titular role. Ahead, everything we know about the film, including the two Oscar favorite actresses who’ve just joined the cast.
The movie will be based on the hit stage musical.
In November 2018, it was confirmed that Universal Pictures had acquired the film rights to the smash-hit musical from Steven Levenson, Benj Pasek, and Justin Paul. Dear Evan Hansen tells the story of a high school student who suffers from anxiety and other mental health issues after a classmate’s suicide.
The original Broadway production opened in December 2016 at the Music Box Theatre and has been playing to regularly sold-out crowds ever since. (The production is currently paused, as Broadway is shut down through May 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.) DEH was nominated for nine Tony Awards, winning six including Best Musical, Best Original Score, and acting trophies for Platt as Lead Actor and Rachel Bay Jones as Featured Actress.
The release date has finally been announced.
Universal Pictures officially revealed the movie will debut in theaters on September 24, 2021. There’s no word yet about when the film will be available to stream.
Ben Platt will reprise his Broadway role as Evan Hansen.
Platt gave his final performance in the role of Evan Hansen on Broadway in November 2017, but he’ll play the character again in the film adaptation, Universal Pictures confirmed.
Last September, while promoting his Netflix series The Politician, Platt was vague about returning to the role. “It’s unclear at this point,” he told The New York Times. “It’s being developed and certainly if it comes together in the next year or so, when everyone can forgive me for still playing a teenager, then yeah, I would love to do it.” In March, Platt more definitively told People, “I’d love to go back to it.”
As of September 2020, Platt hadn’t formally committed to returning, nor ruled out his involvement. “Yes and no,” Platt told Deadline when pressed for updates in July. “If COVID allows it, it’s on the docket for everyone and something that I think everyone is really looking to make. We think this is obviously a story that would be really effective to tell on film. But it’s a matter of can we make it happen in time for me to be conceivably young [enough for the role]. If the [COVID] guidelines prove that it’s possible over the next few months, I think it’s definitely a possibility.”
We’re thrilled to hear that possibility is now a reality.
Julianne Moore will play Heidi Hansen.
Oscar winner Moore will play Hansen’s mother Heidi, Deadline reports. This will be one of her first musical roles onscreen, playing the role for which Rachel Bay Jones won a Tony in 2017.

Amy Adams will play Cynthia Murphy.
Adams and her six Academy Award nominations are headed to the set of Dear Evan Hansen. According to The Hollywood Reporter, she’s signed on to play Cynthia Murphy, mother of Zoe and Connor. Adams is no stranger to a musical role—she sang onscreen in Disney’s Enchanted and The Muppets. Plus, she performed live during the 2008 Oscars to sing Enchanted‘s “Happy Working Song.”

Her character’s husband will be played by Danny Pino of FX’s Mayans M.C., according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Booksmart‘s Kaitlyn Dever will play Zoe.
Deadline reported that Kaitlyn Dever, who was nominated for a Golden Globe for Netflix’s Unbelievable, is in talks to play Evan’s love interest Zoe Murphy. That’s the female lead in the film and will be Dever’s first major musical role onscreen. The outlet notes that she has previously written and performed songs for the soundtrack of 2018’s Tully, starring Charlize Theron. Dever also co-starred with Platt’s real-life best friend and Merrily co-star Feldstein in last year’s Booksmart. Onstage, Laura Dreyfuss (The Politician) originally played Zoe, who dates Evan over the course of the musical.

One of the actors playing Zoe’s friends in the film will be DeMarius Copes, Deadline reports. He’s an actor best known for starring in Broadway’s Mean Girls and will assume the role of Oliver.
The Hate U Give‘s Amandla Stenberg will play Alana.
Variety reported that Stenberg will play an “expanded” version of Alana in Dear Evan Hansen. Originally played by Broadway newcomer Kristolyn Lloyd, Alana is a high school senior whose inner struggles are hidden by her optimism and social media finesse. Stephen Chbosky will direct with the creative team from Broadway’s Dear Evan Hansen returning.
Most of the creative team involved in the Tony-winning production of DEH is returning for the film adaptation. Music and lyrics will come from Pasek and Paul, inspired by their stage work. Since Dear Evan Hansen‘s success, the musical duo went on to win an Oscar for La La Land‘s “City of Stars” and were nominated for The Greatest Showman‘s “This Is Me.” Pasek and Paul will also executive produce the film, alongside Marc Platt (Ben’s father) and Adam Siegel.
The script will come from Steven Levenson, who wrote the stage musical’s book. Levenson is also penning the scripts for upcoming big-screen musicals including Lin Manuel Miranda’s Tick, Tick…Boom! and a Fiddler on the Roof remake. Filmmaker Stephen Chbosky (The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Wonder) will direct the movie. Director Michael Greif (original Broadway productions of Rent and Next to Normal) helmed the stage version.

With the Tale of two Jasons this far along, I am able to see what is wrong, and could've been done better in this story(in my opinion). Most of it is story, but a part of it is the way couple fans are reducing it because of the lack of conflict being shown from Sam.
For JaSam fans(not all but a lot), Sam is completely in love with Jason but is only with Drew because he can provide a safe life, or she's committed to being thus new her that she created because Drew forced her into it. She's unhappy and is choosing her family over herself. For DreAm fans(not all but a lot), she loves Jason but is completely over him romantically, and Drew is obviously the love of her life.
The truth is that neither of these statements is completely true. She loves both men, maybe not equally but close enough to equally that the choice is already hard for her. Add on the fact that she changed, even before Drew came into her life, and she has children to consider now, and the choice is incredibly difficult and complicated.
My first issue is that Sam and Drew aren't involved in finding the truth. It's been a couple months, there has been enough time for everyone to get their bearings, Sam and Drew should be in this Faison thing, not Sonny and Carly. It affected their life more personally than it did CarSon's.
My next issue is with the way they've regressed Carly for Jason's return, and as a result, the possibility for a deepening of the CarSam friendship. She's back to meddling and relying on Jason to make it on for her to do so. Carly learned to stand on her own while Jason was gone, and after losing Michael because of her need to protect Sonny, she has been a lot less likely to meddle in other's business, unless it's for her kids. Carly became a bit more rational. On top of that, Sam and Carly became friends outside of their individual relationships with Jason. She should be a person that Sam can go to to talk about her feelings. She can be proJason and still support Sam in her choices. Sam has no one to talk to about this because she has no friends other than Carly and Maxie. With Maxie focused on the Faison thing, Carly would've been great for an outside perspective. Because, even though she is Jason's friend, Carly is also not personally affected by who Sam chooses.
Sam and Drew should not have gotten married. This is me, as a DreAm fan, knowing she loves him and he loves her. As the situation is, with Sam's conflicting feelings, she shouldn't be committed to anyone but her kids. She and Drew should've separated while Drew looks into his past; while she gets used to a life where Jason is back and wants her back but she also has a child with someone else; while Jason learns to live in a world where Sonny can run the business without him running to do menial things for him, Carly doesn't make messes for him to clean up, Michael is a grown man who can definitely take care of himself, and his kids are a part of his life; and while they ALL find out why this happened in the first place.
Making Jason a mindless dummy for Sonny is bothering me too. They've taken Jason and forced him into this box of being Sonny's yes man, even to the point of putting his own questions to the wayside. Sonny didn't have to ask Jason to put going to Russia on hold to go to puerto rico or wherever to handle whatever, but he did. He could've sent someone else, but the writers chose that moment to show the priority that even the smallest of tasks come first fir Jason as long as it's about the business. The writers are writing Jason as such a one dimensional character, whose primary purpose is to support Sonny, and everything else is secondary. Jason looks to Sonny before doing everything, even handing his gun over to Jordan after shooting Faison. AS IF HE HAD A CHOICE. Like he thought, "well if Sonny says no, then sorry, no dice commish." Seriously? Jason hasn't been affected by the fact that he lost five years in any way besides, Sam loving someone else. He went to the penthouse, knowing it had been five years, expecting her to have just been waiting for him. Then goes to Sonny and says he would never leave him. Even with what happened to him, how it affected his family, seeing that Jake is alive and knows who his father is, he would still not change his priorities. That lack of growth is what puts me off. I'm holding out hope that after he gets answers, that'll change, but with the way he's being written right now, I don't see it happening.
The biggest issue is that we aren't getting Sam's unfiltered thoughts on this situation. As I said before, Carly would be good here. Heck, even Lulu would be. She only talks to Drew about how she feels, and she can't be completely honest about her conflict without hurting him, and she doesn't want to do that. She can't talk to Jason for the same reason. We are left to interpret why she has flashbacks, what they mean, and if she's really doing what she wants, or if its just what she thinks is best for her kids. We don't know her motives or what she thinks about anything. We don't know. And this ambiguity hurts the story more than almost anything else. If viewers saw her torn, heard her talking to a friend about the love she has foe both men, the story would seem more like the triangle that the writers are claiming is there.
Making Jason this mindless yes man for Sonny is bothering me too. The writers have reduced him to this one dimensional character who exists only to support Sonny, with his family taking a back seat in the extra time that is his personal life. He doesn't do anything without Sonny's approval, from being told to put going to Russia on hold so he can do some menial task in Puerto Rico(i think) to waiting til Sonny said it was ok to give Jordan his gun after shooting Faison. As ifhe really had a choice. Seriously? What, he thought, "well sorry, but Sonny said no, so no dice commish,"? Its mind blowing.
Jason fans, for the most part, seem to have no problem with him being written the way he is. They think that he's fine the way he is and Sam loves him more than enough to accept herself and her children being fifth on the list behind Sonny, the business, Carly, and Michael. But she shouldn't have to put his wants above her kids importance when he won't put his kids ahead of someone else's.
They're also writing Drew as a family man before anything else. He is close with Monica, even as Jason, they were close. He loves his kids and is there for them all, even knowing now that they aren't biologically his.(Side note: yes, I will keep referring to Danny and Jake as Drew's kids, because that man has been their father for the last two, almost three years. He loves them, he makes time for them, he is their father.) Jason, however, spent both Thanksgiving and Christmas with the Corinthoses, sparing a quick minute to say hi to Monica. He hasn't tried to spend any time with Danny, even when waiting for news on Faison. But Sonny seems to be able to hang out and talk with Carly about Joss whenever. He waved to Jake, but when he got a call from Sonny he was gone. And they're working on the same thing so that makes no sense.
DreAm fans think Sam doesn't need to process her feelings for Jason. They kissed and she wasn't affected by it. She still married Drew, and Jason is stuck on Sonny so its an easy choice to be with Drew. Her love is that for your first love and nothing more.
Between the lopsided writing for Jason and Drew, sticking Sonny in stories he doesn't need to be a main player in(that's a whole other issue i have with this show), and the ambiguity of Sam's feelings, this story has become a huge mess. I have no faith in it's direction, but my love for the characters makes me invested anyway.

Never Too Old Chapter 2 (Biadore) - China
AN: I know I didn’t get much notes but it doesn’t matter. But I do appreciate that some already like my story, so thank you. A little note though, I made some of the situations up, so some really did happen and some didn’t. I do like to stay true to the actual events of these queens’ lives but like I said, some aren’t real. But i hope you guys enjoy the next chapter :)
TW: light depression and breaking down
November 29, 2016, 4:20 PM
The three friends decided to have coffee in a small café just around the corner from Roy’s apartment. Roy and Shane talking inside the café while Danny is sitting outside finishing his cigarette. Shane decided to call Dan to join them, he arrived moments later and sat with them. Danny gave him a wave and Roy just smiled at him. They have been together in the same season but Roy isn’t comfortable having people outside their circle join them. But he can see that Shane was really into him and that Dan was showing the same feelings, so he decided to be nice. Plus Dan wasn’t mean, he was a really kind guy who was over six feet tall with a weird taste in drag.
It was already winter there but it hasn’t snowed much, yet it was cold enough for Danny and he enjoyed it. He took a long drag from his cigarette and puffed out slowly. He looked inside the café and all he could get a good look at was Roy; since Dan and Shane were all over each other and Roy obviously backed away from that, Danny got to see him more. Danny smiled to himself, he thinks this small crush on Roy isn’t gonna last but hopefully it doesn’t make things awkward for the both of them. Danny is well aware on what happened to Roy and Jason and he feels bad about it. He kept apologizing to Roy and even cried in front of him. Danny could remember that night, they were at a club and Roy went up to him and said Jason broke up with him. Roy wasn’t crying, he wasn’t angry or happy; his face looked very neutral but that made Danny worry because he didn’t want to ruin Roy’s relationship.
Danny took another drag of his cigarette and killed it on the ashtray, thinking of what happened during those days were already too heavy on him. He unlocked his phone and checked the calendar. He finally smiled at himself, knowing his plan for the holiday will be the best idea he’s had in awhile. Part of him is going for this because he wants to have a vacation and the other part is for Roy, so he’s hoping that Roy would agree.
Inside the café, Roy was listening to Dan’s stories on his journey to different countries doing charity and all. Roy can really see how smitten Shane was with the tall man. Roy couldn’t really tell if he could trust this relationship since Shane has been with tons of men. His attention over Dan didn’t last long, he leaned his chin on his hand and looked outside, his eyes finding Danny immediately. Danny was sitting outside, his breath can be seen wafting in the cold breeze. His body snugged up in his jacket, his tussled hair kept under a thick bonnet and his nice long legs in skinny jeans. Danny was beautiful to Roy; the way he showed emotions, the way his voice sounds when he laughs and makes silly noises. Sometimes Roy tries to remember the feeling of being 27 years old again, he knows that if he was that age again in the present he would have done much more and make the most out of his youth.
But this is Roy, 41 years old, very seasoned and slowly becoming weak. Despite of this he loves being with Danny and Shane because they would always make him feel young again.
He looked at where Danny was sitting again, but Danny left the seat. Roy’s head gently popped up and he started looking for the younger man. He couldn’t find Danny in the store and outside, he had half the mind to stand up and check outside to see if he left. Roy is worried Danny had another break down and ran for it. But before he could look back at Shane he felt a cold arm wrap around his neck, Danny’s face was inches away from Roy’s. Roy felt his mouth run dry, seeing his green eyes lazily looking at him and his thick lips curling perfectly to a smile. Danny gave a small chuckle and sat next to Roy, Shane subtly giving the two a look.
“I went to the bathroom. Don’t get your panties in a knot, Roy.” Danny said, giving him a teasing look. Roy just chuckled and looked at his cup of tea.
“Don’t get too cocky, Chola. I just thought you ran off again or something.” Roy answered back, he drank the rest of the tea, his eyes still on Danny.
Danny gave a smile, he thought to himself that it was about time. He sat straight and leaned towards Roy and Shane. “Okay, so we have no idea what to do for the whole month, right? Since Roy has his break, plus you and me,” He pointed at himself and Shane, “We don’t have anything to do till January.”
Shane untangled his hands from Dan and leaned towards Danny as well. “Okay so what do you suggest we do?”
Danny gave a big smile at his friends and got his phone out of his pocket. “I was thinking we do a road trip!” He couldn’t contain himself when he finally said it.
Roy looked at Shane and gave an approving nod. “I like that. Sounds fun. But to where?”
“I was thinking we drive to Azusa.” He raised his hand to his friends before they could argue. “I know you guys might think we can go on plane. But where’s the fun in that? I did my research after lunch and it takes around 41 hours to get there. There’s a route I chose going there too and there’s so much to see if we took it. We can squeeze the whole trip within the month. If we arrive to my place before like, Christmas, then we can stay at my house till New Years and just drive back after. What do you think?”
“I’m okay with this actually. I think this is really fun, and adventurous.” Shane smiled. He looked at Dan and back at Danny. “Can Dan go with?”
“Of course he can!” Danny said. He looked at Roy who was quiet for a bit. “What about you, Roy? You like this idea?”
“Actually, I do. I haven’t been on a road trip in years. I think this is the best way I can spend my break. Plus are we gonna take the route passing Pennsylvania? Cause Aaron and Willam are there for the holidays as well, we can meet up with them?” Danny gave him a nod while drinking the rest of Shane’s coffee.
“That’s great! I mean, I would love to see them.” Shane said. Danny and him were nodding at each other. “You okay with going, Dan?”
Dan wrapped his arm around Shane and smiled at everyone. “Yeah I would love to go. If anything I can help with lodging and gas money. But whose car are we taking?”
“I inquired at this car rental place and they have a Camry available so we can take that.” Danny said.
“Wow, you really did your research. Very impressive Danny.” Roy said. “So we’ll just leave the itinerary to you? I can be the one to pay for the rent for the car and others.” Danny smiled at Roy. Roy felt a tingling sensation in his chest and couldn’t help but smile back at Danny.
Shane started checking his phone. “I can help Danny with the itinerary. I might know some places we can stay in. But I need to know the states were passing through.”
“I’ll give you the details on that when we head back to Roy’s apartment.” Danny said.
“Okay, well it’s almost dinner time, so let’s all discuss this further over dinner?” Roy said reaching for his back pocket to get his wallet. Shane and Dan did the same and gave Roy their share of the coffee. Danny reached the pocket of his jacket and handed his money to Roy, since Danny’s knows that Roy is better with handling with the bill than anyone else.
The four decided to walk back to Roy’s apartment, Dan and Shane holding hands and whispering to each other while Roy and Danny walking silently behind them. Danny said a few words to Roy about the planned road trip, he can tell Danny was excited. Roy knows he is, he knows Danny that way, he would be spending the holidays with friends and also with his mother.
Roy knows Bonnie is a very kind and hospitable person, so she wouldn’t mind if Roy and Shane come to visit as well. Bonnie lives alone with her boyfriend, Jerry, having Danny around is always a good thing for her. Danny already called her up about their plans to drive there. At first she was hesitant since it’s a 41 hour drive to their hometown but Danny assured her that they were going to be safe and that it was for Roy. Bonnie knows her son, head to toe, and Danny knows he can’t hide anything from her. She knows what feelings her son has towards Roy and for her it was okay, just as long he doesn’t do anything extreme and end up getting very hurt. She knows how much Danny has been through, from American Idol to Drag Race to All Stars 2. Sometimes she feels like Danny is overkilling everything and he always ends up getting hurt. Danny knows that the last thing his mom wants is that he gets hurt by a guy he’s been crushing on.
They all arrived at Roy’s apartment, he agreed to let Dan spend the night with them so he doesn’t have to travel late just to get home, just as long as they don’t have sex in his apartment. Roy settles down while Shane and Dan head to his empty room to get extra mattresses, since they agreed they’ll camp on the floor of Roy’s bedroom while Danny and Roy share the bed together. Shane decides to be very subtle about it but couldn’t resist on letting out a tease or two. Danny just laughs at him and tries to shrug it off, since he knows that he actually wants to sleep next to Roy. Roy on the other hand, tries to play it cool but the feeling of sleeping with him again, got him on his toes. They have slept together a couple of times but since Roy is confused already with what he feels for Danny, things might be a bit different, but he wants to think of it in a good way. It’s something new for Roy and he doesn’t mind finding out where it leads to.
The four discusses the road trip over dinner, Danny decided to take the route going west to Azusa. Roy and Danny agreed to be the ones driving and Shane would be in charge of where to sleep and what to do when they arrive on their stopovers. Dan tells them he’ll help out in any way, so Shane just asked him to help pay for any of the expenses.
Danny is more than willing to take the route passing Pennsylvania, because Justin messaged him and saying he’ll be with Aaron and Willam for the holidays. Danny told everyone the route to Azusa and showed it on a map on his phone. From New York, they will pass by Pennsylvania and spend a few nights there with their friends and then travel to Indiana, since Shane and Dan suggested they should spend around three nights there. Danny was a bit shocked on how fast Shane was with planning, but he couldn’t argue at least they would have something nice to do on their travel.
Danny and Shane were the most enthusiastic among the four about the planned trip, Roy and Dan were the ones fixing up the dinner table while the two argue on ideas. Dan insists that he does the dishes and Roy reluctantly agrees and tells him thank you. Roy realizes that this has been the liveliest night he has ever had in his apartment. Usually when Danny and Shane come to visit, they’re barely spending an early night here. They would be out in a bar, where Shane would pick up men and Danny would force Roy to drink with him and Danny would end up getting drunk first. This is the kind of moment where Roy would honestly feel at home. He loved seeing everyone smiling and laughing or actually talking to each other and not be so sucked up in social media. It was these kinds of moments where Roy loves being with other people around, where he didn’t mind that noisy people are in his home and where he doesn’t want to be alone.

November 30, 2016, 8:45 AM
Danny has always been doubting himself. He didn’t knew how he reached to top 3 on RuPaul’s Drag Race. But it was a wakeup call for him, it was telling himself that he can do it and that he can achieve things. He’s been to American Idol twice and never reached to anything close to the finish line. But with Drag Race he never felt so fulfilled.
Danny has never forgotten that question asked to him through Timothy during the reunion. “I kinda have a feeling that you have a crush on Bianca del Rio when she’s out of drag. Do you?” Every time he remembers how he answered it he usually smiles in embarrassment and covers his face. But he did feel bad for lying in television, because he did have feelings for Roy. It was a small crush at first but after being together with Roy and Shane as top 3, Danny saw a side of Roy that just got him really deep into Roy and not Bianca del Rio anymore. To Danny, Roy is so different from what he first thought of. He was still mean, but he is a very sweet person. When Danny was doubting himself, Roy always give the extra push he needed to get back up. Roy was always there for him and Danny felt like he had a special place for Roy in his heart. He knows he doesn’t want to take Roy or Bianca out of his life.
Danny woke up in Roy’s bed. He rubbed his eyes and felt something soft on his cheek. He looked up to see Roy sleeping and that got Danny blushing. He didn’t want to move because he knows if Roy woke up they wouldn’t be in that position anymore. Danny enjoyed it, the warmth from Roy’s body and the sound of his slow and even breaths. He wished Roy was having good dreams. He kept looking up at Roy’s face and started examining every inch of it. The 5 o'clock shadow, the smooth tan skin, and his lips. The lips he’s been wanting to taste for a while, Danny had innocence in his eyes, eager to examine Roy’s features even more. He wanted to kiss Roy then and there but he knows things will change if he does. Danny swore he counted the times he’s imagined kissing Roy in that very moment.
He heard Shane make a small grunt from the floor, Danny closed his eyes again and pretended that he was sleeping. He didn’t want Shane catching him staring at Roy. Shane sat up and looked at the two in bed, Dan woke up as well started mumbling something to the blonde.
“Well, isn’t that sweet.” Shane said softly. He grabbed his phone and took a picture. Danny heard the shutter sounds from Shane’s phone and he wanted to smile, maybe ask for the photo when everyone is awake. Dan gently shoved Shane and giggled.
“You should have placed that on silent, they might wake up.” Dan whispered to him. Shane went back to Dan and gave a small kiss on his lips.
“Well, they’re still sleeping.” He said. He got himself up from the floor and gestured Dan to go with him. “C’mon, let’s give them their moment.”
He heard Shane and Dan leave the bedroom so he decided to loosen up again, but Roy shifted his position and wrapped his arm around Danny. Danny almost panicked when he felt Roy’s chest gently pressing on his face. He decided to gently sniff Roy, he smelled like Calvin Klein mixed with perfume he can’t describe, Danny felt like he was in heaven. Roy had a small physique but he was soft. He found his hands resting on Roy’s waist and he wanted to go lower.
Danny kept smiling to himself and repeating how much he was loving this, but his smile slightly faded when he came into a realization.
“Fuck am I that into him? This might not end well if I do something stupid.” He thought to himself, with worry in his eyes.
Roy silently woke up. He was too groggy to picture everything but he knew he couldn’t move. He looked down and saw Danny being nuzzled under his body. Roy blushed when he felt Danny’s hand on his waist and feeling his breathing on his chest. Roy didn’t know what to do, he was torn between staying in that position and wait for Danny to wake up or being the one to wake up and move. He wasn’t sure if he liked it, but his body seems to. His hands started moving on his own, grazing through Danny’s back slowly. There was this sensation running through Roy’s head and body, he hasn’t really felt this way with Jason when they would cuddle in bed. It felt right for him, but Roy always chooses mind over heart and he knows that this isn’t right for him to feel this way for Danny. He was starting to remember what Willam told him about Danny during the break up with Jason, now things are messy in his head. But Roy knows he likes it, he just has no idea what he really feels for Danny.
Danny felt Roy’s hands on his back, it was an exciting feeling for him. Like he was being tickled but not that strong. Danny has slept in Roy’s bed before but there wasn’t much contact between them. The only time he did cuddle up to Roy was the first few nights he left All Stars 2.
The happy feelings he had faded when the thoughts of All Stars 2 were flooding his head, he opened his eyes and felt a blank expression fall on his face. The heavy feeling on his chest came back, every haunting memory just flashed before him right then and there. His breathing went heavy, he placed his hands on Roy’s chest and started to clench onto it. Roy’s eyes shot open, he immediately held Danny closer.
“Hey?” He said softly, rubbing his hand on Danny’s back. He got no response from Danny, but after a few seconds Danny started to grip Roy’s shirt harder and pulled it towards his face. Roy felt his shirt moisten, he gently grabbed Danny’s face to meet his, the green eyes already filled with tears. Roy tried to wipe away the tears from his face and whisper to Danny that things will be okay and that he shouldn’t think about the past too much. Danny just kept shaking his head and cried even more.
“I-I can’t…” Danny mumbled. His breathing got heavier and he held Roy closer to him. “I… I don’t know what to do with all these memories, Roy.”
Roy didn’t exactly know what to say, because in his head he’s already said the same thing to Danny ever since this started. But he felt like if he said the same thing it would feel like he’s imposing something to Danny and he knows Danny doesn’t need that right now.
“I’m sorry.” Danny sobbed. He cried harder, holding on to Roy’s body tight. “I’m such a burden to you.”
“Danny.” Roy interrupted. Danny was still crying hard, Roy pressed his lips on Danny’s head, “You’re not a burden to me, Danny.” He said softly through his hair. “I know it’s really hard. To just forget everything, and I know I’ve already said the things I needed to say about this.” He made Danny looked at him, Danny’s eyes already red from the crying. Roy simply smiled at him and pushed his messy bed hair away. Roy pressed another kiss on his forehead. “But let’s just look at this way okay? That it’s almost the end of the year and we are gonna spend the whole holiday together and with your mom. Let’s look forward to this, okay? I’ll be with you the whole time.”
“But this trip was supposed to be for you Roy. Not for me. For you.” Danny cried in his thoughts, he wanted to say it to Roy but his throat went dry and he couldn’t seem to say anything. He hugged Roy again, feeling Roy’s lips on his forehead, still burned to his skin. Danny couldn’t fight the doubts in his head, or the feeling that he wasn’t strong enough to be there for Roy even if Roy was always there for him.
Danny is having a hard time with all these breakdowns, he wanted it to stop but he can’t help that these feelings keep returning. It was one of the worst moments for Danny after he left, since it was the first time a drag queen tapped out from a competition. Danny had his reasons, everyone knew that and they showed so much love for him after. But to Danny it was a deep wound for him, he had so much mixed feelings about it.
He was glad he left and at the same time he wished he could have stayed. But as much as his determination and passion was there, he just felt so empty. No matter how many times he got convinced by Justin, Michelle Visage and even RuPaul to stay, he just couldn’t. It was that feeling where you feel empty yet you also feel the heaviness in your chest. Danny was feeling that the whole time when he got home.
After he went home to his mother, he said he needed to take a flight to New York and he immediately went to see Roy and stayed with him for a week. There were a lot of things going through his head and he couldn’t even think of what he can do on a daily basis. Right after Season 6 of Drag Race, he knew what he was doing and he knew that he didn’t have to please anyone at that point. He got to finally work on his music and make his drag style in his own liking that no one had to disapprove it.
It was around September when he came to Roy, it was even weeks before his birthday. Danny never felt so vulnerable at that time. It wasn’t the first time he was that hurt on reality television, getting eliminated in American Idol twice and all the criticisms he received during Drag Race Season 6. But nothing made him feel more destroyed in All Stars 2.
When he was with Roy, he just kept crying and locking himself up in Roy’s extra bedroom. Roy has never seen Danny like that, just floating in air and he couldn’t figure out what to do for Danny. Roy always had the right thing to say when Danny asked for advice, but at that point, he didn’t know what to say to him. He was quiet most of the time, said a few motivational words to Danny, but he still ended up having quiet moments with Danny. They would just sit next to each other on the sofa until Danny stopped crying or Danny would cuddle up to Roy while he was working.
Roy knew from that day, he had to be there for Danny, it didn’t matter to him that he gave more for him. What really mattered to Roy was that the one person that meant so much to him was okay and that Roy wouldn’t end up regretting that he wasn’t there for Danny. Roy didn’t want to be alone, if he was being selfish. But he didn’t want Danny to lose himself as well and Roy couldn’t take that.
Roy started blinking fast, returning from his memory. Danny was still clinging on to him, silently crying on his chest. He scooched up a bit to make him sit up on the bed, so he can hold Danny properly. Danny sat up and tried to stop crying. He held one hand on his mouth and the other on his chest, he tried so hard to not cry but the tears kept falling. Roy sat up and held his hand tight, he tried to wipe the tears away and fix Danny’s messy hair.
Shane barged in the room, his eyes were wide and he immediately ran to Danny and hugged him from behind. Danny started sobbing, he fell back on Shane and just kept crying. This was a painful thing to see for Roy. He glanced at the doorway seeing Dan gesturing he’ll close the door and mouthed that he’ll make breakfast. Roy got out of bed head towards Dan and gave him a few instructions on how to use some of the kitchen appliances. Dan gave a thumbs up and Roy gently closed the door. He turned his back to see Shane rocking Danny slowly and softly singing to him. Danny’s expression started to calm down, he opened his eyes to see Roy and lazily gestured him that he wanted a hug. Shane also reached his arms out for the older man, smiling at him. Roy gave a lazy smile and joined them, Danny immediately grabbed Roy and hugged him tight, Shane giving the bigger hug to fit both of them.
Roy honestly felt like Shane was the best person to help Danny out with his problems. Because Shane knew exactly what to do to cheer him up, he has a lot of encouraging words and he does all these things to make Danny smile. Sometimes Roy would tell himself that he should have done this or said that and Shane would be the one to say it before he does. But he doesn’t realize that asides from Danny’s mom, Roy was the first person Danny ran to. He could have chosen Shane or Justin or even Jay. But he chose Roy. Sometimes Danny doesn’t understand why he went to Roy first since he knows he does have feelings for Roy. At the back of his mind he knew that he needed Roy.
“Thanks guys.” Danny said softly, still hugging Roy and Shane. “Sorry again for this. I keep doing it.”
Roy pulled away so he can face Danny properly. Shane gave a big kiss on Danny’s cheek, making Danny smile. “Don’t be sorry about this, Danny. You need people you love to be around you.” Shane said.
When Shane said that Danny and Roy immediately looked at each other. Danny felt a bit of panic that he looked at Roy, he immediately looked at Shane after.
“Hey, we still have this road trip to do.” Shane added, smiling at both of his friends. “I promise this will be the best holiday ever!” He said with his high pitched voice and hugged Danny after.
“Well Dan already is making breakfast right now. So let’s eat and make the final plans and get our shit ready if you wanna start traveling by tomorrow.” Roy said, reaching for the box of tissues he had on his bed counter and handed it to Danny.
“Yeah, we gotta pack up and all.” Danny added, grabbing the tissue and started wiping his eyes. His face was already red from all the crying. But he still managed to give a big smile to his two friends. Roy has always agreed to himself that he feels happier every time he sees Danny smile.
“Alright then, I’m gonna help Dan out first. Then after we get everything ready.” Shane said standing up from the bed. “You and Danny get the car later. Is that alright with you?”
“Yeah, Danny and I will be the ones to get it. Just get your itinerary ready and your boy toy.” Roy replied.
“You’re a cunt.” Shane said flatly. “But alright I’ll call you guys when breakfast is ready then.” Shane leaned in to give Danny a kiss on the cheek again. “Love you, you’re stronger than you think okay?” He gave a smile and left the room. Danny looked down on his fingers and tried to hold back tears. Roy wanted to say something to him, but these were the moments where he didn’t know what to say. Sometimes even making a small gesture for a friend was hard for him to do. He stood up from the bed, decided to head out to the kitchen and get a glass of water for Danny.
“Hey I’m gonna get you water okay? I’ll be back.” Roy said about to head to the door.
“Roy, wait.” Danny immediately said. He got up from the bed and hugged Roy. His head buried on the nook of Roy’s neck, he hugged him tight and gave out a big sigh. “Thank you.”
Roy hugged him back and smiled. “Hey, it’s okay. I’ll always be here for you.”
“I really needed you and I’m glad that you were there.”
“I’m glad I was too.”
“I mean since the start. When all of this happened. I don’t know what I’d do if you were gone. I can’t deal with that.”
Roy’s smile faded, he knows how hard it was for Danny but he didn’t know how deep it’s has become.
Before he could say anything, Danny pulled away from the hug, he looked at Roy in the eyes and placed his hand on his cheek. “Please don’t go, Roy.” His eyes became teary again. Danny gave Roy a soft kiss on his cheek and hugged him again. Danny’s heart was racing, he hasn’t kissed Roy like that ever, usually just for fun or a thank you kiss. The kiss he gave Roy was so much more than a simple one, but he felt like he needed to do that.
Despite the events that has happened that morning, Danny felt his heart warming up and all he can think about was kissing Roy again. He wasn’t sure anymore where his feelings for the older man has gone but he knows it’s more than before.
Roy’s heart was also beating fast. The feeling of Danny’s lips on his skin felt more and more desirable to him. Even if Danny was a big mess moments ago, but he couldn’t help but want more. His mind was focused on the kiss, he wants him to do it again but he also is fighting that thought. He pulled away slowly from Danny and guided him to the bed. Danny laid down and smiled at him.
“I’ll go get you that water okay? Then we can get this day started so we can get ready for the trip.” Roy said softly, brushing the long brown hair away from Danny’s face.
Danny gave him a small nod and watched Roy leave the room. When the door closed, he laid on his back and covered his face with his hand. He remembers all the stuff he needed to do on that day. He grabbed his phone on the bed counter and checked the time. He needed to squeeze all the tasks to do for the rest of the morning and afternoon. A part of him is excited for the trip and a part of him was excited as well to be with Roy. He told himself to try to be strong with his feelings about the past but he was also scared with his feelings for Roy. At that point he knew it wasn’t a crush anymore, his heart is slowly falling for Roy and he knows this is might be the best and worst thing that could happen to him.

WHAT TO WATCH THIS WEEKEND November 8, 2019 – DOCTOR SLEEP, MIDWAY, LAST CHRISTMAS, MARRIAGE STORY and more
Well, last weekend was a thing, wasn’t it? The movie I liked the most didn’t do great, the movie I really wasn’t into did better than expected, and Terminator: Dark Fate? Yeah, that’s the end of that franchise… hopefully?
This week, there’s some good, some bad and some okay to decent. I’m probably under embargo on the two bad movies so you’ll just have to guess which is which.
Tumblr media
Actually, I already reviewed Mike Flanagan’s DOCTOR SLEEP (Warner Bros.) over at The Beat, and my review of Roland Emmerich’s MIDWAY (Lionsgate) will probably havegone up over there by the time you’ve read this. That just leaves Universal’s holiday rom-com LAST CHRISTMAS and Paramount’s PLAYING WITH FIRE.
Doctor Sleepis the latest Stephen King adaptation, this one based on his 2013 novel that is a sequel to The Shining, the movie starring Ewan McGregor as the older Danny Torrance, Rebecca Ferguson as “Rose the Hat” and newcomer Kyliegh Curran as Abra Stone, a young girl with powers who turns to Danny to help her face Rose and her gang of roving power vampires. As you can read in my review, this one isn’t so bad, and if you’re a fan of The Shining, there’s stuff for you to enjoy even though it’s not nearly as scary.
Not sure what more I can say about Midway, other than it’s Emmerich’s version of the WWII Pacific battle with a mostly-male cast that includes Woody Harrelson, Patrick Wilson, Aaron Eckhart, Randy Quaid and many more, most of whom have done better work. Basically, I wasn’t a fan, and I’m not sure how well it will do even with Monday being Veterans Day. I’ll be curious to see how others feel about the movie.
Also, not much to say about Playing with Fire other than its John Cena doing a family comedy with director Andy Fickman, Kegan Michael-Key, John Leguizamo, the wonderful Judy Greer, and honestly, I doubt anyone who might read this column would have any interest. Put it this way, it’s no Instant Family, one of my favorite movies from last year.
In many ways, my favorite movie of the weekend is Last Christmas, directed by Paul Feig from Bridesmaids and Ghostbusters, which is indeed based loosely on the George Michael song of the same name, but it brings together Emilia Clarke with Henry Golding from Crazy Rich Asians, as well as Michelle Yeoh from Crazy Rich Asians, and Emma Thompson, who co-wrote the film.
Tumblr media
I’ll have an interview with Feig over at Next Best Picture very soon, but here’s my short review…
Mini-Review: You know you have to be doing something right if you make a Christmas rom-com that’s able to get a Jew into the Christmas spirit while watching your movie even before Halloween, but that’s the case with this great collaboration between Paul Feig with Emma Thompson.
I’m not sure what I was expecting, but I was definitely surprised by how much I liked Emilia Clarke in the role of a fuck-up who can’t seem to find a regular living place since her roommates keep kicking her out. She works at a Christmas shop in London’s busy market owned by Michelle Yeoh, who is lovingly known as “Santa.” One night, her character Kate encounters a handsome and mysterious young man named Tom (Henry Golding), and the two become friends and then get closer.
It’s pretty amazing to see Clarke doing something we really haven’t seen her do before and that’s being funny, but she also sings in the movie and has a nature that some might deem “Manic Pixie Dream Girl”-ish. In fact, she plays an elf. (rimshot) It’s hard not to think of Zooey Deschanel in Elf as you watch Clarke spend time in her work costume but Kate is very likable and nothing like Clark’s previous roles. Golding is as charming and handsome as ever, making him come across like the new Hugh Grant, but their scenes together propel Last Christmas into a place where you really feel for both of them.
There are aspects to Last Christmas that are predictable, including a twist that’s literally spoiled in the first few minutes of the movie, but the movie is just so enjoyable overall that this can be forgiven. Even if you’re the worst Scrooge about the holidays, it’s hard not to enjoy all of the Christmas spirit permeating this movie, particularly Yeoh’s character, but it also finds a way to make you feel good about helping others during the holidays, something that I hope rubs off on anyone who sees this.
Basically, Last Christmas is a romantic comedy that’s actually romantic and very funny, as well as a great way to kick-off the holiday movie season! It’s taken some time, but Love Actually finally has a worthy successor.
Rating: 8/10

LOCAL FESTIVALS
The big festival hitting New York this weekend, today in fact, is this year’s installation of DOC-NYC, which boasts 300 films and events circulating around the world of documentary filmmaking, including many World Premieres, as well as screenings of some of the year’s biggest commercial and critical hits in terms of docs.
Oddly, tonight’s Opening Night is Daniel Roher’s Once Were Brothers: Robbie Robertson and the Band, which was also the opening night gala of TIFF this year. I still haven’t seen it. Closing night is the NYC premiere of Ebs Burnough’s The Capote Tapes, which I also haven’t seen. The festival is giving Visionary Tribute Lifetime Achievement awards to Michael Apted, who will screen the latest in his ongoing doc series, 63 Up, as well as to Martin Scorsese, whose Netflix film Rolling Thunder Revue: A Bob Dylan Story will screen. I actually haven’t seen too many movies in this year’s festival just cause I’ve been busy with other things, but I have seen Joe Berlinger’s The Longest Wave about windsurfer icon Robby Naish and Keith Fulton and Lou Pepe’s He Dreams of Giants, a great follow-up to Lost in La Mancha, which follows Terry Gilliam’s efforts to finally make The Man Who Killed Don Quixote. Other movies include the World Premiere of Beth B’s Lydia Lunch: The War is Never Over on Saturday night, the NYC Premieres of Oren Jacoby’s On Broadway, Beth Kopple’s Desert One, Kristof Bilsen’s Mother plus many more. (On top of that, my own group, the Critics Choice Association will be announcing its own Critics Choice Documentary Awards this Sunday.)
LIMITED RELEASES
Tumblr media
There are two can’t-miss movies this weekend, the first of them being Noah Baumbach’s latest Marriage Story, which in my opinion is the best film he’s made in his entire career, and that’s saying something. This one stars Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson as a couple going through a divorce, and if this sounds familiar, it might be since Baumbach’s 2005 movie The Squid and The Whale was also about a divorce, that of his parents. It’s hard not to think that at least some of Marriage Story might be based on Baumbach’s own divorce from actor Jennifer Jason Leigh as Driver plays a theater director and Johansson plays an actor who appears in many of his plays. The real sticking point is their 6-year-old son and the fact that Johansson’s character wants to put him in school in California where she has an upcoming job, but his father, who is about to bring his play to Broadway without his wife, wants him in New York. At first, the couple plan on divorcing without lawyers and remaining friends, but as lawyers are brought on board – played by Laura Dern, Alan Alda and Ray Liotta – things just get more vicious. Not only is this one of Baumbach’s best-realized screenplay but the performances he gets out of his cast are indelible, particularly Driver and Johansson who have a number of highly charged scenes together, including one that’s absolutely unforgettable. It’s easily one of the best movies of the year, and it will be very much in the awards race. Marriage Story opens on Wednesday (today!) in New York – at the City Cinemas (formerly the Paris Theatre) and IFC Center – in L.A. and a few other cities. It won’t debut on Netflix until December 6.
Another movie that definitely needs to be seen is HONEY BOY (NEON), written by and starring Shia LaBeouf and directed by Alma Har’el, who has previously directed documentaries and music videos. It’s loosely based on some of LaBeouf’s own experiences as a child actor dealing with a turbulent relationship with his father with Noah Jupe from A Quiet Place and next week’s Ford vs. Ferrari playing the young actor “Otis Lort” who later in life (played by Lucas Hedges) is dealing with the repercussions of an alcoholic father, played by LaBeaouf, apparently based on his own father? It’s a really amazing film that obviously was extremely cathartic for LaBeouf to write while he was going through his own rehab therapy, plus he also has singer FKA twigs making her feature film debut as an amorous neighbor of Otis who lives at the motel where he stays with his father. I’m not going to say too much more about the film other than it’s extremely powerful and emotional
There are a couple decent docs opening this weekend, the one I recommend first and foremost being Roger Ross Williams’ THE APOLLO, which will open at the Metrographafter opening this year’s Tribeca Film Festival. It’s an amazing look at the landmark Harlem theater that’s made so many careers over the years from performers like Aretha Franklin and James Brown, combining amazing archival footage with new interviews.
I haven’t gotten around to seeing Lauren Greenfield’s new documentaryThe Kingmaker (Showtime), which will open at the Quad Cinema in New York before it airs on Showtime, but this one is about the political career of Imelda Marcos, the Philippines’ first lady who became almost more famous than her President husband Ferdinand, mainly for her collection of shoes.
Samuel Bathrick’s doc 16 Bars opens at New York’s Village East Cinema and in L.A. next Friday. It follows Arrested Development’s “Speech” Thomas as he works with in mates in a Virginia jail to write and record original music as part of their rehabilitation.
Netflix is also releasing Despicable Me co-creator Sergio Pablos’ animated film Klaus in theaters this Friday in advance of its worldwide streaming debut on Netflix on November 15. It features Jason Schwartzmann as the voice of Jesper, a spoiled rich kid son of the postmaster who is sent to a frozen island in the Arctic circle where he finds allies in a local schoolteacher (voiced by Rashida Jones) and meets a mysterious carpenter named Klaus (voiced by J.K. Simmons).
Opening at New York’s Cinema Village is Joel Souza’s CROWN VIC (Screen Media) starring Thomas Jane as a veteran cop with Luke Kleintank (also in Midway) as his rookie cop who are looking for a missing girl and hunting two cop killers in Los Angeles. It also stars Bridge Moynihan.
Nicolas Cage stars in PRIMAL (Lionsgate) as Frank Walsh, a hunter and collector of rare and exotic animals who catches a rare white jaguar, except that the ship taking his cargo also includes a political assassin being sent to the U.S. who breaks free and lets the jaguar loose. So this is like Life of Pi only with more Nicolas Cage? It also stars Famke Janssen, Kevin Durand and Michael Imperioli and opens in select cities asnd On Demand.
Similarly, Danger Close (Saban Films) will be in theatrs, On Demand and Digital, this one starring Travis Fimmel (Warcraft) as Major Harry Smith in Kriv Stenders’ war movie, written by Stuart Beattie. It follows Smith as he takes a group of 108 young soldiers from Australia and New Zealand into the Battle of Long tan against 2,500 Viet Cong soldiers. I guess this is an alternative to Midway for Veterans’ Day?
STREAMING AND CABLE
Debuting on Netflix is Luke Snellin’s holiday rom-com Let It Snow, starring Isabela Moner (Dora and the Lost City of Gold), Odeya Rush, Shameik Moore and Liv Hewson as a group of high school seniors in a Midwestern town who are snowbound on Christmas Eve. It’s based on a book by John Green, Maureen Johnson and Lauren Myracle.
REPERTORY
Let’s get to some old(er) movies, starting with the Metrograph in New York, who begins a series with filmmaker Noah Baumbach in Residence in conjunction with the release of Baumbach’s latest and greatest, Marriage Story. Besides screening Baumbach’s own 1995 film Kicking and Screaming, 2005’s The Squid and the Whale and 2007’s Margot at the Wedding, Baumbach will present screenings of Spike Lee’s Crooklyn (1994) on Saturday, Eric Rohmer’s Pauline at the Beach (1983), which inspired Margot with more movies to come between now and November 22. The Metrograph also continues its Welcome To Metrograph: Redux series with Shunji Iwai’s 2001 film All About Lily Chou-Chouon Thursday and again on Saturday. This weekend’s Playtime: Family Matinees is Steven Spielberg’s 1981 classic Raiders of the Lost Ark, while Late Nites at Metrograph  will screen Bong Joon-wo’s The Host on Thursday through Sunday, way too late for this old man. You’ll also have another opportunity to see Hitchcock’s 1971 thriller Frenzy on Thursday night.
TheFilm Forumwill be screening Yasujirô Ozu’s 1957 film Tokyo Twilight in a new 4k restoration starting Friday, as well as bringing back his 1953 film Tokyo Story, as well, continuing from the Shatamachi series which ends Thursday. The Forum is also screening Henry King’s 1949 movie Twelve O’Clock a few more times this weekend, and on Sunday and Monday, it will screen Rowland Brown’s 1933 film Blood Money. This weekend’s Film Forum Jr. is George Lucas’ American Graffiti.
The IFC Center is gonna be pretty busy with Doc-NYC (see above) but its Waverly Midnights: Spy Games offering will be Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997) and Late Night Favorites: Autumn 2019 will screen Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange (one of my favorites).
Opening at the Quad on Friday is a 4k 20thAnniversary restoration of Joan Micklin Silver’s A Fish in the Bathtub, starring real-life husband-wife comedy duo Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara. The 1999 comedy from the director of Hester Street and Crossing Delancey is about a woman who finally had enough with her stubborn husband so she moves in with her married son (played by Mark Ruffalo!!!), driving him crazy enough to convince his sister (Jane Adams) to try to repair the relationship.
The Roxy Cinema will be screening Valley Girlo n Weds and  Alan Parker’s 1984 film Birdy on Thursday, both starring Nicolas Cage, and the 1979 film Draculastarring Frank Langella on Saturday.
Uptown at Film at Lincoln Center, they’re kicking off a short series called Jessica Hausner: The Miracle Worker, including a sneak preview of her sci-fi thriller Little Joe, and showing her earlier films Amour Fou, Hotel,Lourdes, Lovely Ritaand a bunch of shorts.
MOMA continues Modern Matinees: Iris Barry’s History of Film and Vision Statement: Early Directorial Works, the latter showing Sebastian Silva’s The Maidon Wednesday evening, Jane Campion’s The Piano on Thursday, Debra Granik’s Down to the Bone on Friday, John Cassavetes’ Shadows(1959) on Saturday and Kelly Reichardt’s Old Joy (2006) on Sunday, as well as Cristian Mungiu’s 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days.
The Alamo Drafthouse in Brooklyn will show Tom Hanks’ The ‘Burbs on Thursday night in conjunction with Rotten Tomatoes, then next Monday’s Fist City is America Ninja 2: the Confrontation from 1987, Terror Tuesday is one of my favorites, Final Destination 3 (2006) and Weird Wednesday is the 1984 film Decoder.
Out in Astoria, the Museum of the Moving Image will screen Paul Verhoeven’s Starship Troopers (1997) on Saturday as part of its ongoing “No Joke: Absurd Comedy as Political Reality” series. Friday night, its showing Godfrey Reggio’s 1982 classic Koyaanisqatsi, introduced by Ramell Ross as part of his “Some Other Lives of Time: Subjective Spaces for Nonfiction” series. I have no idea what that means. MOMI is also showing Vassilis Douvilis’ The Homecoming as part of “Always on Sunday: Greek Film Series,” which apparently has returned after a six-month hiatus.
Out in L.A., Tarantino’s New Beverly has been showing double features of Jackie Brown with Lewis Teague’s 1980 film Alligator, and no, I don’t know the connection either. Friday’s horror matinee is David Cronenberg’s The Brood while the midnight movies are Pulp Fiction on Friday night and Maniac Cop 3: Badge of Silence on Saturday night. The Kiddee Matinee is one of my faves, The 7th Voyage of Sinbad and then Monday’s matinee is James Mangold’s Cop Land, starring Sylvester Stallone. Next Tuesday’s wacky triple feature is Stunts, Walking the Edge and The Kinky Coches and the Pom-Pom Pussycats. Now THAT is what I call a triple feature...
The Egyptian Theatre is showing Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman in a limited engagement but on Saturday, it will show Raoul Levy’s Hail, Mafia! (1965) as part of “Joe Dante’s 16mm Spotlight” with Mr. Dante in person. Over at the Aero, they’re having a series called “All the Right Stuff: The Artistry of Phillip Kaufman with the director in person and double features of Raiders of the Lost Arkand The Wanderers on Friday, Invasion of the Body Snatchers/The Great Northfield Minnesota Raid on Saturday and The Unbearable Lightness of Being on Sunday (with Juliette Binoche)!
The Friday midnight at Landmark’s Nuart Theater is the anime classic Akira.
Next week, James Mangold’s Ford vs. Ferrari takes on Elizabeth Banks’ Charlie’s Angels and Bill Condon’s The Good Liar, starring Ian McKellen and Helen Mirren.

Riverdale was an odd little town with the usual dram, the cliche kind that was notoriously shown in entertainment. You had the controlling Mrs. Cooper whom had two daughters that were completely under her thumb. The oldest was Polly whom lived in a group home following a nervous break down after a fight between Jason Blossom and her. Betty was the youngest Cooper with a large crush on Archie Andrews and close to following in her sister’s footsteps in a group home.
You had spent the summer in sunny Los Angeles. You had been invited by YouTube for meetings and collabs. You had surpassed two million subscribers before you got the email inviting you to stay in an apartment provided by the company and meet each other. In the busy summer you had lost touch with your best friends back at Riverdale and it wasn’t all your fault either, they didn’t reach out or answer the few messages before you stopped.
The day before your first day of sophomore year you had filmed a quick video explaining that you were back in your hometown before diving into a Q &A. Following the death of your parents your brother Tommy had moved from his childhood bedroom into the master bedroom and fixed up his room into a studio for you to film and edit videos. It was worth it with the amount of people supporting you and the increase of subscribers coming from other YouTubers that you collabed with. Those subscribers were Jc Caylen and Kian, the Dolan Twins, Team 10 one time, and Lilly Singh known more by her username IISuperwomanII.
“Y/N?!” Tommy exclaimed pulling you in for a tight hug finally happy to have his only remaining family back. Your beat up car was sitting in the driveway looking like it could break down at any moment but you were nearly the amount you needed to buy a new car.
“Tommy!” You sighed feeling relief of being back with him in your hometown even if you missed LA and the people.
“Catch up over a burger?”
“You read my mind.”
Pops hadn’t changed since you were last in the homey neon restaurant. It wasn’t too busy to your absolute surprise given that the food here was something magical and old fashioned. Yet at the same time it was pretty late when you walked in. You were reminiscing as you moved your eyes over the inside before your heart stopped. Sitting in the usual booth you and your friends has used was Archie and Betty,
Archie was focusing his attention on a gorgeous brunette that was obviously from a family with money like the Blossoms. It made you feel weird because he had chased you for a number of years ever since you were in the third grade. Betty had always been jealous about that given she claimed she was in love with the red head. Little Archie had grown in the absence this summer and you were shamelessly checking him out. You noticed someone was missing from the small group.
“Where’s Jughead?” You asked Tommy’s friends since the middle of the summer.
“Last I heard, the two haven’t been friends since the middle of summer.”
When you looked to the right you saw the familiar crown beanie that was the trademark object that screamed Jughead. Jughead was sitting with his back to the door but you could just see what he was looking at. He seemed entranced by his open computer and a mug was pushed to the edge of the table begging to be filled.
“Y/N Y/L.N!” The voice of Pop exclaimed coming up to your brother and you, “Look at that tan!”
You felt the distinct heated looks from your old friends as if they blamed you for not keeping in contact and abandoning them. You ignored them just as they had this summer mainly because you didn’t want to deal with them to be frank.
“Hey Pop!” You grinned, “Man I missed this place! No food in LA could compete against your food.”
“Thank you. How was LA?”
“Amazing! Sunny and beautiful with clear skies and blue water.” You sighed remembering the entire summer.
Pop had become a father figure when your parents died the car accident. He had worked at the restaurant while babysitting you with efficiency. You lived with Pop and his family until Tommy was old enough to become your legal guardian and move back into your family house.
“What did you do?”
“Remember when I showed you my YouTube?” You asked earning a nod, “I went for meets and collabs.”
“Is my Y/N familiar?”
“Hell yeah she is!” Tommy exclaimed messing your hair up.
After a couple minutes you were comfortable in a booth across from your brother. You were close to where Jug sat because he was the least likely candidate to ambush you. It wasn’t entirely his style and you weren’t sure if he even knew you were here.
“They want me to return. You said to Tommy with reluctance.
“Already?” Tommy asked shocked.
“Yeah.” You sighed, “I signed a contract to allow me to finish high school anywhere I want. I’ll move to LA when I’m graduated and my summers will be spent in LA also.”
“Smart.” Tommy nodded, “I wouldn’t allow you if you had to move while in school.”
Both you and Tommy were witting in a comfortable silence that was normal between the two of you. When your parents were still alive you fought like cats and dogs but now you considered each other a close friend and confidant. You were thinking of new video ideas for next weeks video seeing as you had already done a Q & A. Things had changed since you last sat in Pops, the day before you left. During your time as a popular YouTuber, you had dated other YouTubers. You were still privately dating Ethan Dolan when you had met him and Grayson a few weeks into settling in the apartment building they were in.
“What’s new in this small town?” You questioned.
“Uh…Jason Blossom drowned on July 4th.” Tommy frowned. They had been rivals when Tommy was still in high school because Jason landed varsity football his first year of high school.
“Oh my god!” You gasped shocked, “How did a strong swim captain die swimming?”
“He wasn’t swimming. They haven’t found his body either but it’s well known that Cheryl was on the boat with him when it tipped over.”
*Archie’s POV*
Archie was listening as Betty talked after Veronica left to take the food back to her mother. Betty seemed upset when Veronica had interrupted them and left but Betty seemed to be upset the new girl had joined them. He pushed away the fact she was upset, instead focusing on his relationship with Ms. Grundy. Besides he was upset and confused that Jughead hadn’t contacted him since he had said he couldn’t go on the trip but he froze when he heard Pop.
“Y/N Y/L/N! Look at that tan!”
Both Archie and Betty watched as Tommy and Y/n stood talking to the older man with large grins and happiness. They were shocked at the image of their friend being back from LA given she was supposed to have moved there permanently. Why was she back?
That’s Y/N!” Betty exclaimed, “I thought she moved to LA?!”
“I did too.” Archie muttered as he watched the girl smile at Pop.
“Did you talk to her this summer at all?”
“No.” Archie replied staring at his childhood crush, “I was too busy working this summer.”
The words were bitter on his tongue from the weight of guilt that was glued to them. A couple days after he began seeing Ms. Grundy she had asked him to stop talking with Y/M. Everyone in Riverdale knew that Archie was completely in love with Y/N and Ms. Grundy wasn’t stupid to not see that it was true.
“Mom took my phone away so I had no way of contacting her.”
Little did Archie know that when you had left you had texted him with a question he would have been so excited to read. In the month before summer started you had started to return his feelings with surprise.
Hey Archie, I chickened out but when I get back do you want to go on a date? Let me know July 4th at the latest. I hope to see you soon.
Ms. Grundy had seen it when Archie was in the bathroom and was entirely disgusted that the young girl was trying to get her Archie. With belief that Archie would drop her for his dream girl she had deleted the message along with her contact after blocking the number. The message hadn’t been delivered to Archie.

The Teleprompter Interview: Daniel Mays ‘I’d jump at an Ashes to Ashes Return’
https://ift.tt/3dZSoaJ
‘He pops up absolutely everywhere doesn’t he?’ says Daniel Mays about his Code 404 co-star Stephen Graham. You could say the same of Mays. A draw on any cast list, between them in the last year alone they’ve appeared in almost 20 major titles – 1917, Good Omens, White Lines (Mays), The Irishman, The Virtues, Line of Duty, Save Me (Graham) to name just a handful.
Why Mays and Graham are in such high and regular demand is no mystery; they’re two of our best. Mays has an instant affability on screen that he’s able to turn to tragedy or comedy or both at once. Graham’s characters are often the reverse, unknowable and dangerous before he lays their vulnerabilities bare.
In sci-fi comedy Code 404, they play detectives with a tangled personal history. Mays is a DI unexpectedly brought back from the dead via some bug-ridden experimental AI tech. Graham is the trusty partner who’s been keeping his colleague’s wife (Anna Maxwell Martin) company during his absence.
Already renewed for a second run, Mays tells Den of Geek it’s the most binge-watched show on Sky in eight years. “We’re all buzzing about doing another series.” As the first is released on DVD, he talks us through his TV memories…
Which TV show inspired you to start your acting career?
Robbie Coltrane in the Jimmy McGovern drama Cracker. I find his stuff heart-breaking at times but it’s astounding social realist television. Any script written by Jimmy is nuanced and powerful. He’s one of this country’s most amazing writers.
More than anything though, it was Robbie Coltrane’s performance. I remember all the incredible performances, Robert Carlyle as the skinhead with those fantastic interrogation scenes, Christopher Eccleston… but Coltrane as this antihero, a gambler and a womaniser and a drinker, a maverick copper, he was amazing.
That and Prime Suspect.I could go further back, but in terms of when I was really getting serious about becoming an actor, those were the two that were compulsive viewing. I’ve subsequently gone on to work with Jimmy McGovern so it feels like it’s gone full circle.
Which TV character did you want to be when you were younger?
As a kid I was really into The A Team and whassisname, David Hasselhoff! Michael Knight from Knight Rider. As a kid I was obsessed with that show. I had all the action figures. That car was so cool wasn’t it? And when he did the turbo boost and jumped over everything!
In The A Team I probably wanted to be Face, but in reality, if I was to be cast as anyone now it wouldn’t be Face [laughs], it would be Murdoch wouldn’t it?
And which TV character would you like to be now?
When I was working, I didn’t really watch much telly at all but obviously that’s all changed now we’re in lockdown. Before, I hadn’t ever delved into The Sopranos, and I love that character, Tony Soprano. If I could pick one TV character I’d like to have a go at now, that’s the one.
Has any TV programme ever given you nightmares?
Oh man, I’m telling you! There was an ITV adaptation of Jekyll & Hyde with Michael Caine. I’m going back years and years, I must have been about 10 or 11. The make-up that they used in this show when he changed from Dr Jekyll to Mr Hyde, the Hyde make-up was absolutely terrifying, to the point where it really affected me.
I was far too young to watch it and I even had to sleep in between my mum and dad at 10 years old, I was absolutely petrified of that character. Even in preparation for these questions, I went on YouTube and typed it in and there he was again, petrifying, even today!
When did you last laugh out loud watching TV?
The new Alan Partridge when he’s doing the talk show with Susannah Fielding, that particular sketch when he was attempting to use the toilet on the train without using his hands, when he went into that whole routine of opening the door with his knee. Anything with Alan Partridge I find absolutely hysterical.
I’m an absolute sucker for Only Fools and Horses as well. I’m such a die-hard fan of that show and whenever that pops up on UK TV or Gold, if I end up watching five minutes, I have to sit down and watch the whole episode. I’m such a lover of that relationship between David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst, I think it’s absolute gold, all of those characters, John Sullivan’s writing, it’s part of my fabric growing up. It’s probably my favourite ever TV show.
Name an iconic TV moment for your generation
The opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics was an amazing moment of television isn’t it? It started out in like a farmyard [laughs] and I remember thinking, ‘what have we got going on here? We’ve got the eyes of the world watching us…!’ But it then proceeded to be the most engaging and emotional extravaganza. In terms of Olympics opening ceremonies, nothing comes close to that, even in Beijing when you had that huge number of people. It was so brilliantly British. I don’t know why I ever doubted Danny Boyle. He hit it out of the park.
What was the last TV show you recommended to someone?
I recommended Save Me, the Lennie James show. I watched the second series of that in lockdown and the second series was even better than the first, and I absolutely adored the first series. I thought that was an absolute breath of fresh air, I think it was really amazing that Lennie had written this piece set on a sink estate and yet it felt vibrant and I loved the characters. It was just a wonderful piece of television. They’ve got to do another series. I definitely recommend that.

Lennie James interview: Save Me, Storm Damage, The Bill
By Louisa Mellor
Starring your Code 404 co-star Stephen Graham
Yes! He pops up absolutely everywhere doesn’t he?
Which TV show does everybody keep nagging you to watch that you haven’t yet seen?
Ozark and Succession. They’re two shows I’m yet to delve into really. They’re two on my list I’ve got to tick off, along with everything else!
Which TV show would you like to bring back from the dead?
There’s all this talk that there’s going to be a final instalment of Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes, which I keep hearing rumours about. From what I’ve read, it’s more based around what happens to John Simm’s character Sam Tyler. I don’t know if it’s going to be a modern-day thing but I always wanted to see Gene Hunt in the 90s. It’s difficult to make that happen because Ashes to Ashes was sewn up brilliantly. I’m sort of hesitant to say it should come back but Gene Hunt is such an iconic character and Phil Glenister was so incredible in that role.
I’ve always gone on record and said that Jim Keats – the character I played, the devil – was one of the most enjoyable things I’ve ever done so if there’s an opportunity to play that role again, I’d jump at that. Is it egotistical of me to pick a show that I’ve been in myself?!
Which show do you wish more people would watch? If you were forced to pick another one of yours?
I did a single drama on BBC Two called Mother’s Day about the Warrington bombing. That’s a really important moment in history and it’s such a heart-felt drama. If anyone’s not seen it, that would be something I would recommend to people to watch. It’s not for the faint-hearted.
Have you ever done fancy dress as a TV character?
[Laughs] I went to an EastEnders fancy dress party dressed up as Frank Butcher! My then-girlfriend went as Pat so we were Pat and Frank. Then when I got there, there was another guy dressed up as Frank Butcher but he was gangster-Frank so he had all the bling on. We had a bit of a Frank Butcher-off.
Tell me you were the Frank Butcher with the spinning bow-tie?!
[Laughs] I didn’t go that far! Actually, scrap the Olympics opening ceremony, do the Frank Butcher bow-tie as the most iconic moment of my generation [laughs].
Which TV theme song do you know all the words to?
I know all the words to Friends and I have to say, Only Fools and Horses again, whenever that comes on I always end up singing all over it.
Which TV character would you like to beat in a fight?
What’s the TV show that The Rock does? It’s set in LA, Russell Brand’s been in it as well. I wouldn’t mind beating up the Rock, because my wife loves a bit of the Rock! So I could beat him up in a TV drama. Who wouldn’t want to beat The Rock up?!
What is the most fun you’ve had making television?
White Lines for Netflix, without a shadow of a doubt. That’s a complete no-brainer. The locations, the character I was playing, the actors I was working with and the scripts were just absolutely brilliant and bonkers. Fingers crossed we get a second series.
If you get a second series, your character Marcus has quite a different role set out for him, doesn’t he?
Yeah! He’s going to become the drug baron of the Calafat family. It’s all to play for isn’t it, especially for Marcus, the whole thing’s been left wide open for him to get into all sorts of mishaps and scrapes.
That character was probably the most enjoyable character I’ve played, him and Jim Keats. I just had such a ball, he was so funny and he had this sort of tragedy to him as well. He’s just so hapless. The thought of Marcus in Colombia or Bolivia or wherever just makes me howl even thinking about it.
And when else do you get to give mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to a dog?
That’s true! I forgot I did that scene. That’s mad isn’t it. Though I actually only punched the dog’s chest. At one point I did say ‘Shall I give the dog actual mouth-to-mouth?’ and the director Nick Hamm said ‘I think that’s too much Danny, even for this show.’
Code 404 is out on DVD & digital 6 July.
