I HAD A TERRIBLE THOUGHT WHILE DRAWING HER-- I would describe her style of dress as “knock off disney princess” but tonight I was like “...fuck, she looks like Jessica Rabbit.”
and now I wanna draw her in a sparkly dress ala I’m not bad I was just drawn that way
BUT NOT TONIGHT-- I NEED TO BE IN THE SHOWER AND IN BED BY NOW
maybe later

Various characters on your birthday
A/N: So this is very self indulgent because yesterday was my birthday (yippee!) but I wrote some headcanons with a few of my fav characters from the fandoms I write for. Anyway have fun reading!
Warnings: none
Characters: Aro Volturi, Emperor Belos, Elrond, Shadow Weaver, Thranduil
Aro Volturi:
Tumblr media
Now, celebrating birthdays in the vampire world is a little bit different. Since most people at the palazzo have been alive for centuries, they don't really celebrate their birthdays every year. It's more like every decade or even every 100 years.
However, if Aro's mate is still human or a newborn vampire, they can expect to have a big party thrown for them. Even if they prefer solitude, they can expect to at least have the family invited. That being Caius, Marcus, Athenodora and Sulpicia.
Aro obviously gets his mate the best gifts. He can, after all, see their deepest wishes with a single touch. His mate had seen something online and thought "wow, it would be nice to have this"? Aro had already added it to the list of possible birthday gifts.
Obviously he would buy them more meaningful gifts as well. For example, maybe the mate absolutely loves a certain book series, well Aro would commision someone to make them a special edition of the books.
His mate can expect to find love notes and poems all over the place on their birthday. Aro is a gifted writer and he makes sure to capture all the things that he admires about his mate. Which is pretty much everything. Seriously, he can barely name anything he doesn't like.
The entire day is planned carefully by Aro and he intends to go through with his plan unless something absolutely crucial needs his attention. In that case, he promises his mate that he'll make up for being away.
Aro will ask them to dance with him to their favorite songs. Whatever the song may be, he would find a way to dance with them.
It brings him great joy when he sees how his mate has so much fun. Especially if they are holding his hand while doing so. Aro loves it when he can bury himself in their mind.
When the day is coming to an end, he takes them to stargaze outside of Volterra, somewhere not that affected by light pollution. They both would look at the stars and hold hands while doing so. Aro would whisper sweet nothings in their ear, possibly slipping into other languages while doing so.
His mate can definitely say that their birthday was amazing, if not the best birthday they ever had.
Emperor Belos:
Tumblr media
When it comes to Belos and celebrating birthdays, he actually prefers to not have a grand party for his beloved. He just thinks it would serve no reason and a private dinner or something similar means far more than anything else.
That being said, he is actually... hardly torn away from doing his Emperor duties. He must prepare for the Day of Unity after all. But after enough begging, he decides to humor his partner for a while.
I'm not saying that he didn't get them gifts, because of course he did. Belos is the type of person to hand-craft presents instead of buying them. He just feels it's far more personal that way.
Belos being the old fashioned man that he is, he writes them a heartfelt letter. As heartfelt as Belos can be of course. He would reminescence of their first date and the moment Belos realised he loved them.
Somehow the entire castle found out of their birthday, so the s/o can expect getting birthday wishes from most of the guards. Some (like Lilith, Kikimora and Hunter) even give them presents. Lilith and Kikimora just want to suck up to Belos of course, but Hunter's is more personal. After all, it's his uncle's lover.
As much as Belos denies it, he loves having matching things. So his beloved would get something for their birthday that matches something he owns. Perhaps it's a gadget he uses often, or a piece of clothing that he loves; he would get them something similar.
This day is the ONLY day he would allow them to wear his emperor outfit. Belos would watch them try to imitate him and would laugh along. After the day is over though, he makes sure to tell his s/o that they got their emperor-outfit-wearing priviledges revoked.
Obviously Belos knows everything on the Boiling Isles, which means that he knows all of the secret places that are just absolutely mesmerizing. He might just surprise his beloved with a trip to one of these places.
I believe at night, once the both of them are in bed, Belos would share some of his fond memories. That is probably the most sentimental his s/o had ever seen him. It's sort of a birthday present of sorts I suppose.
Now, if his lover REALLY wanted to have a big party, he might be convinced. He would use that to manipulate the Isles into believing that he is a kind man, but he would also just want to make his beloved happy. Belos is just a tiny bit twisted like that.
Absolutely the type of man who would ask for their s/o's hand in marriage on their birthday. I can just totally see that happen.
Elrond:
Tumblr media
Oh Elrond, beautiful Elrond.
Now birthdays are a bit questionable for elves as well since... well, they are immortal. But, whenever Elrond and his beloved would celebrate their birthday, the elven Lord would make sure to make it unforgettable.
Elrond plans the whole day of course (if his s/o agrees into the planning).
First, they would wake up and receive breakfast in bed. Elrond would stay with them the whole time, smiling down at them as they eat. After that he takes them on a walk in the gardens where they would talk for hours.
If someone happens to "accidentally" play some music in the distance, Elrond would ask his lover on a dance. They would talk while doing so and laugh along when they accidentally trip and fall in the grass.
After the walk in the gardens, Elrond takes his s/o back to the main halls and leads them to a room that is decorated just for them. There awaits them Elladan, Elrohir, and Arwen with smiles on their faces. All of them would give Elrond's beloved a gift while the Lord waits patiently.
Elrond's gift wouldn't be too grand but it would be meaningful. Most likely it is something he made with his own hands. Like if his beloved wears jewellery, he would make them something out of their preferred materials. Since courting is taken very seriously for elves, I believe they wouldn't commision anyone for a piece like that like humans would. The elves make important gifts themselves as it's more meaningful that way.
After a joyful lunch with music involved, Elrond brings his s/o outside to celebrate with the rest of Rivendell. It's a very carefree party where the elves play music and dance around with or without the s/o.
Once nighttime comes around, Elrond will get them away from the party and bring them to a clearing where they can watch the stars in peace. The stars are very important in an elf's life, so why not spend the last hours of their birthday looking at them.
Elrond would tell his beloved how much he loves them while in the comfort of the stars. He would also describe their relationship using great many metaphors.
At the end of their birthday, they walk back to the party and dance the night away.
Shadow Weaver:
Tumblr media
We all know how Shadow Weaver loves gardening, right? Well, she would obviously put together a lovely bouqet for her s/o. It consits of their favorite flowers, or if they don't have any, flower in their favorite colors.
Shadow Weaver would wake her lover up by gently caressing their face and wishing them happy birthday once they open their eyes. After that she let's them eat breakfast before giving them the bouqet. It has a little note attached to it that is enchanted so it sparks little fireworks once it's opened.
Now, the sorceress is actually not that sure how to act in this situation because, let's be real, she did not partake in many relationships before. So her s/o will have to excuse if she's being a bit awkward.
She would get her beloved a cake, as suggested by Glimmer. It would be their favorite flavor and most likely would have frosting that is their favorite color.
Because Shadow Weaver is not very big on letting her feelings show, she wouldn't really give her s/o a speech about how much she loves them but she would try to write some of her feelings out in a form of a letter.
Once the s/o is ready, she will take them to her garden that is decorated just for them. It's more colorful than usual, but it still stays in the theme of the sorceress' taste.
Shadow Weaver would then lead them to a table that is decorated by candles. They would drink tea or something her beloved likes while talking. While outside, some residents of the castle would walk by to wish them happy birthday, especially Glimmer.
Once they're done with the little tea party, Shadow Weaver takes them out to a clearing in the Whispering Woods. There she reveals a picnic set up just for her s/o. While sitting and eating, Shadow Weaver finally gives them their present. It's something very personal.
The rest of the day consists of Shadow Weaver and her beloved watching the sunset and enjoying their picnic.
Thranduil:
Tumblr media
Once again, the elves are a bit different about birthdays but Thranduil sure does throw a big party. Wine for the whole realm and dancing all night.
But before he gets to that, he makes sure that this day is the best day his s/o has ever had.
Thranduil wakes his beloved up by whispering to them and wishing them happy birthday. He let's them have breakfast in bed, while he eats beside them. After the breakfast he gives the plates to a servant while they stay in bed for some more quality time.
When they finally get up, Thranduil takes them on a stroll in the garden. They walk around, simply talking. Once they found a place where they could sit down, Thranduil gives them their first gift. It's a very personal gift that he made himself (much like Elrond).
While his s/o is looking at the gift, Thranduil whispers in their ear in elvish, explaining just how much he loves them. They stay there for some time before heading back to the palace.
Legolas would wish them happy birthday of course. If he likes them enough, he might make them a little carving of sorts and give it to them.
Thranduil showers his beloved in other types of presents as well. If they like wearing jewellery, he would get them something that matches his. Perhaps his s/o would like another sword? Something that fits them perfectly but also just so happens that matches Thranduil's weapon?
Once Thranduil and his lover had finished with the gift giving, he takes them to the dining room where an exquisite lunch/dinner is prepared for them. Some elves are playing music while they eat.
When they finish, they go to celebrate with the rest of the realm. Thranduil opens up the wine barrels for everyone to drink and all of the elves dance around while singing songs.
The Elvenking obviously would ask to dance with his s/o while most likely already drunk. His partner can also expect to hear a speech from him that is adressed to the entire realm. He talkes about how important his beloved is and expects everyone to respect them as such.
If his lover is more anxious, then he swoops them away from the party to dance alone in a more secluded area. After all, he only wants them to feel great on their birthday.
The day most likely ends with the drunk couple entering their chambers and laughing as they fall on their bed. Alternatively, if his lover isn't one to drink, Thranduil still gets pretty drunk and his s/o can deal with a far more affectionate King.

Bro that whole fucking thing where Admin got stuck in a wall and fucked by the staff was POGGERS!!!!!
Can we get vice versa? As in TCE staff getting wall fucked??
TW: Noncon.
In reference to this post.
You know who loves this, don't you? Santi. It's not his first time "getting stuck" in a wall, and it won't be his last. He'll readily perk up upon being touched and you can probably hear him moaning and begging from the other side. Whether you choose to stuff his ass or suck him off, Santi's having a great time and he hopes someone shows up to fuck his face too. He wants you to call others, wants to be taken advantage of viciously.
Morell is dying. Like actually dying inside. The way he tenses as soon as you feather a hand over his ass, cursing obscenities through the wall, banging on it with his fists. Oh, there'll be trouble. You may get him to quiet down and hear him moan quietly if you only choose to touch his cock, but put even just a finger up his ass and this man will try to buck you off like a rabid bull. Make sure he cums from it so Morell is forced to admit anal isn't all that bad.
Gallon can't really get stuck in a wall. What could happen is that he'll take a small eternity to wedge himself out of a tight spot. In that span of time, he can easily angle his body to avoid penetration in certain spots, but he's still likely to get fondled in general and shudder about it.
Grimbly is also another one you should be careful with. Even if he looks small and helpless, Grimbly has sharp and fast legs, you'll get something punctured if he doesn't like where things are headed. Fortunately, so long as you're moderately gentle, Grimbly's happy to mewl and lean into what's being done to him, cock leaking between his clenched legs.
Patches is hard in very little time. He shudders ans gasps at the first touch, though might very quickly turn to begging and rasped cries. Part of him hopes he's absolutely torn apart, that you'll crush his balls and slash his skin, carve little messages there. Of course, you should punish him for finishing when things barely get started too.
Nebul will despise this day for the rest of his unlife. Because lots of people want to put him in his place, most of all you probably. You'll be able to hear his threats and feel the wall rumble with the intensity of his voice, but he's helpless. The only way Nebul can resist is by keeping as quiet as possible. And he clings to that viciously.
Vinnel is deathly afraid that somehow, someway, someone might succeed in ripping his suit- Which is unlikely. People will hump and try to free his cock, but he won't let them, spending the whole time berating whoever touches him for being gross little things who would pathetically grind on him. It's the only line of defense he has while he desperately tries to keep his erection from showing too much.
Belo is panicking so hard. Everytime he's touched, he puffs up and booms threats at whoever's there. And honestly, you'd need a sturdy fucking wall to keep him in place. He squawks and tries to lean away from touched to his slit and cock, trembles when his ass is spread and hopelessly goes limp at some point, asking for forgiveness from Krulu when he starts to take pleasure from his own assault.
Fank-e can honestly just demolish most walls. But. He might not, for some reason or another, maybe to prevent anything from falling onto his visor. He can and will take most of whatever's done to him giggling, enjoying it even. Until someone figures out how to remove Fank-e's cock/robussy and runs off with it. Then he'll get mad.
Sybastian is another one who's panicking, mostly because he hates the sensation of feeling trapped. He's going to try to shift into different things you'll have difficulty fucking, but if you assure him it's just you and you're not going to do something wild, Sybastian will actually spread his legs so you can touch him better. Do get him the fuck out of here though.
There's absolutely no wall that can keep Krulu contained. And even if you could, are you ready to seal yourself into a fate worse than death?

Thinking about how Hollow Mind was the first time Luz ever saw a Hunter/Belos interaction. We, as the audience, are already used to the way Belos treats Hunter, so it didn’t come as a surprise. But Luz?
Aside from a few concerning comments about the emperor not being a merciful man (which could be assumed to JUST be applying to criminals, surely he wouldn’t be like that with his own guys), his general stress levels, and the fact that he’s a child soldier, Luz never really... had any indication that Belos was actively malicious towards Hunter. And let’s face it, Luz isn’t going to think too hard about Hunter being a child soldier, SHE’S doing crazy, dangerous stuff, and he’s actually older than her. It’s fine. Sure, Belos might be putting pressure on Hunter to do well, but that’s just how the emperor’s coven IS, she has no indication that Hunter is being physically abused by Belos, or even necessarily that he’s being emotionally abused besides the immense pressure and expectations.
Amity got a better grasp on the emotional abuse, she was able to recognize that “Hey! Hunter’s got some messed up stuff going on in his life!” but you know what? She’s still staying with her parents! While she advised him to find a support system, she doesn’t know that he’s not physically safe. Emotional abuse is just as bad, but Amity is sticking it out. She’s staying with her parents, who, as far as we know, she is physically safe with. The exception there is Escaping Expulsion, of course, but Amity could have left that fight at any point. The abomaton was after Luz. And none of the other shows every put her in any danger. So while she might note that Hunter’s not okay mentally/emotionally, she doesn’t know the FULL extent of what Belos is up to.
Gus and Willow got a better look at the physically abusive side based on the comments Hunter made on the trials he had to go through, but that doesn’t point to BELOS. That’s just messed up emperor’s coven stuff, and maybe Belos is the one who put all those trials in place, but it’s still general. No thought that Belos would single Hunter out specifically.
All that to say, Hollow Mind is the first time ANYONE other than the audience got a good look at what Hunter’s home life is really like. And there’s an IMMEDIATE tone shift. The first interaction Luz ever sees between Hunter and Belos is Belos snatching the key, making him actively flinch like he’s bracing himself for worse, then snapping at him. And everything changes. She was just trying to convince him that Belos was evil before, and despite the Horrors, it was still kind of... lighthearted. Teasing. Obviously the whole “Oh, man, I thought you were going to kill him” “nah, not for now” thing was concerning, too, but that moment was a shocker for her. A real dose of “Oh, our interactions aren’t just a funny little back and forth to him. Me tackling him in the middle of a mission, the fact that he let the Emerald Entrails go, all that is serious. This has active consequences for him.” She legitimately didn’t know what Hunter was going through. And then the moment she did, there’s an active shift in how she interacts with him. The teasing dropped. She offered him a place to stay. She started actively defending him. Trying to save him from getting sucked down into Belos’ mindscape, yelling at Kiki to back off, warning her friends not to “scare him off,” Everything changed for her the moment she saw how Belos treated Hunter. Sure, they still have a kind of “annoying each other relationship,” and she doesn’t have to worry so much about those active consequences now that Hunter’s away from Belos, but there’s definitely a gentler undertone to the way they interact now.

Miraculous and Redemption
You know, I think I understand what my issue is with this show’s stance on redemption. It’s not specifically who gets the redemption, even the hypocrisy of who does or doesn’t get redemption/forgiven is only one part of the issue.
It’s specifically how they treat the characters who don’t get redemption.
I have seen, in media, where terrible characters who’ve done terrible things get a redemption, and the mean characters, who are just mean, don’t change at all. That’s fine! People are complex, some change and some don’t, some have done horrible things and some are just school yard bullies. It’s fine to showcase this, I mean hell, in the Owl House, Boscha was still an asshole in season 2, and this was past the point that characters like Lilith were forgiven (Lilith isn’t really terrible in Season 1, she just has done a lot worse than Boscha)
Miraculous’s massive issue with this, however, is that the narrative/the authors treats those mean characters as worse than those characters who’ve done horrible things.
I mean, what other media has one of the creators say that some high school bully is comparable to Trump when her literal rich, corrupt, politician father is right fucking there?
Usually the media where a terrible person is redeemed and the mean character isn’t doesn’t treat it as a moral issue. It’s not “oh well this person can’t change” or “oh this person is even worse!” It’s usually “they’re mean, and that’s annoying, but oh well”. That media never treats the character like Satan incarnate, or treats their meanness compared to actual villainy as a moral issue. When characters are around them, they aren’t treating that mean character as literal scum compared to the former villain, the narrative doesn’t treat them as more than an annoyance or, for lack of better words, “small fry”. I mean, while Owl House acknowledged that Boscha was still a prick in season 2, they didn’t act like she was worse than Belos.
Miraculous treats Chloe and Lila, some petty, mean teenagers, as the literal devil compared to other characters. Lila is a master manipulator who somehow convinced 3 people she’s their daughter and has a trillion disguises! It doesn’t matter that that twist came out of nowhere, and it makes it a little weird that this teenager has multiple disguises that she uses around the city apparently, one where she looks like a 20 year old, making people theorize she’s an adult because how on earth is she smart enough or resourceful enough to do this. Chloe is a villain comparable to Gabe, even when she was a hero! Her backstory doesn’t justify any of her actions, but for literally everyone else, we are going to justify their actions! If they don’t do that, they’ll just sweep their actions under the rug completely! It doesn’t matter that she’s consistently being manipulated by the fully grown adults around her, she’s terrible don’t think about it! She neglected her father somehow (???????????????????) so it’s fully justified to send her off with her abusive mother! We aren’t even going to acknowledge that Andre literally had a part in raising her and her turning out this way, because somehow he did no wrong! And what sucks is that it’s succeeding at making those characters appear that way, because some fans are completely genuine when they say that Gabriel is more sympathetic than them. I mean, if you frequent the Reddit (which you absolutely shouldn’t, one way or another it will melt your brain), you’ll consistently see character rankings with Gabriel, Lila, Tomoe, and Chloe in the same category. Somehow the show put the bullies in the same categories as the literal abusive terrorist and his helper in these people’s eyes. You will constantly see these literal teenagers be put on the same category as adults who have done infinitely worse. Even Andre, who is a corrupt politician and terrible role model and literally RAISED CHLOE… is “woobified” by some fans, even going as far to say that Chloe abused him! Nevermind how that would even be possible when she was like, 5-7 when her mom left! I can’t point my fingers at the fans for this though, because the show goes out of its way to place all of its sympathy on the adults, even when they don’t deserve it, EVEN WHEN THE PAST WRITING LITERALLY PAINTS THEIR ACTIONS AS BAD
(It also doesn’t help that the fully grown adult’s actions are all forgiven but god forbid you’re terrible as a teenager, then you’ll get sent off to live with your verbally abusive mother while your basically deadbeat father adopts your half sister literally right after wiping his hands of you)
I will talk about the hypocrisy in redemption at some point, and how bias and forgiveness is handled, but godDAMN, this sucks

Hunter's Possession Scenes and the Theme of Enmeshment
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The usual warnings: explorations of trauma and abuse ahead.
Enmeshment happens when there is the lack of boundaries and lack of defined roles in a family system, and the party with more power, usually the parents/caregivers, prevents a child from becoming their own person independent of the family (this is called individuation or differentiation). Enmeshment leads to a low level of individuation/differentiation because the kid will suffer negative consequences if they try to do so. Which sucks, because we need to become our own person in order to truly love and be loved.
Tumblr media
Belos requires Hunter to follow a strict script
Tumblr media
and only operate within the confines of the role of Caleb (more accurately, how Philip wants Caleb to be...so, not the real Caleb, though Belos has told himself that's the true version of his brother).
Tumblr media
Amity went through similar with Odalia and has been in the process of breaking out of it too. I notice Luz and Willow also get a bit close to experiencing it with their parents: Camila initially getting Luz to conform, Willow's dads initially not allowing her to be on the Plant Magic track. But I need to make the important distinction where I think Belos and Odalia (with Alador enabling Odalia's behaviour while also being abused by her) really crossed the line, because they don't even allow the kids under their care to express their thoughts. They flat out dismiss whatever isn't fitting into their agendas, whereas I can trust that Camila, Gilbert and Harvey, who wound up remorseful about their actions and changing, at least allow their kids to voice their opinions safely and they are the kind of caregiver that'll at least say e.g. "I understand that you want X, but ______".
In enmeshment, the toxic parental figure does not know (or refuses to know) the boundary line where their own being ends and the being of their kid begins: this can lead to issues such as a parentified kid who has to manage the parents' emotions for them. Very sadly, this can also be why when these kids are well into adulthood, they are still terrified of their parents and regress into the same child-like responses they had as kids in their toxic parents' presence.
In the show, I think the two visual concepts that most strongly convey the concept of enmeshment vs. trying to break away from it, are Hunter seeing Belos in the mirror and Belos taking control of his physical body:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Parental figures who are enmeshed with their child feel that their kid is them, has to be them, with the same desires, feelings, beliefs, perspectives...not a separate person. If not, the parental figure's own sense of security feels threatened. So if the child tries to create needed space or establish that boundary line by putting up resistance in any form, you get a tantrum/begging/manipulation/other toxic response from the parent (example: Hunter mentions wild magic in front of Belos and is physically threatened), which then aggravates the child's anxiety and wears down their mental health.
The parental figure takes up more space than they should have in the dynamic, while the kid is boxed in more and more. Obviously such treatment is hazardous and puts an awful strain on the person in the relationship who has less power.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Which brings us to Belos getting desperate enough to possess Hunter.
Tumblr media
A.k.a. peak enmeshment, as Belos did not have any proper grip on his 'nephew' anymore, and turned things up to the max to exert control by literally inhabiting his physical being, giving him no choice but to do his bidding in the most forceful way possible:
Tumblr media
Put simply, you aren't you when in the midst of enmeshment. The worse the enmeshment, the more imposing the control of the toxic parent/caregiver. And wow when I first saw this scene unfold before my eyes, I immediately thought of how powerfully this concept was being visually communicated via fiction. So unnerving. The crew and of course Zeno Robinson have been so good at bringing his enmeshment-related behaviour to life onscreen. E.g. the contrast below...Hunter cracking under the terror in the first few days of truly breaking out of enmeshment in the left-side frame below, versus the right-side showing his post-possession (very literally translated as post-enmeshment) grief which was so painful that simmering, volatile anger rose up in him to keep the pain at bay:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This gentle, kind-hearted kid never wanted this. The worst thing about going through that and resisting it by running away from the coven and the Isles, was that it culminated into losing his best friend.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
His way out of the loneliness and isolation of enmeshment was finding his tribe and leaning into it for support and healthy closeness. There couldn't be stronger symbolism for the tension in Hunter's whole arc, between isolation (the abuse he suffered) vs. feeling like part of a family (a healthy "tribe") than this:
Tumblr media
Wolves. Loving, nurturing pack animals. Who "make great parents". Yet we have the phrase "lone wolf" since wolves do occasionally navigate part of life on their own. Hunter is drawn to wolves because it strikes him right away, he sees himself (more accurately, the deepest desire of where he'd love to be) in the way such creatures usually live.
And the bonds in his pack became mighty. Hunter succeeded at building trust with the Hexsquad, getting nearer and nearer to the core of himself - while Belos didn't have a single trusting relationship with anyone and sunk lower and lower, getting further and further from himself as his self-deception only got worse. Hunter built up what can be referred to as "emotional equity" in his relationships, and he's so inspirational especially in the uncertain, risky early stages of doing this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's like repeatedly depositing into a bank account (both sides in a relationship need to do this, in a manner that both can agree on as fair) and building up the amount in said account with positive experiences and investing effort and time into the relationship. Various difficulties and conflicts that come along will take small or big chunks out of that bank balance. More serious incidents will obviously threaten to break the relationship apart and empty the account or send the balance into the negative. The bond between Hunter and his friends was strong enough to withstand the eventual traumatic loss that they all suffered:
Tumblr media
In fact, he was already putting up a quiet resistance in Belos's absence (I'm relieved Belos didn't require that he be escorted on every single mission or be surveilled all the time in his own room, which would've granted him no privacy to express such thoughts), shortly after we saw him get unmasked:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Unfortunately, wrenching yourself free from the violating nature of enmeshment comes at a physical and emotional cost. It can no doubt be a long journey, an injurious experience, damaging one's sense of discernment of who to trust. It doesn't magically become bright and easy post-enmeshment because grief, confusion, emptiness etc are still present, just in different forms. Hopefully it is the intensity of all that which is reduced and well-managed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The hope is that Hunter does not feel any impulse to want to over-isolate and hurt himself with concerning self-deprecating thoughts and engage in concerning behaviour (which could be a parallel to how he wanted to dig his own grave in Eclipse Lake), especially as he is still processing the moral injury of harming Flapjack and threatening the others while possessed.

My Frustration With Belos
As a presence, Belos is fantastic. He actually has probably some of the best animation in the series and arguably the best voice actor in the entire cast. He sells every line Belos has with a gravity and menace that the emperor might otherwise not have. He sells his anger but also his control and even after I stopped liking the show, I found my attention demanded when he desired it.
Unfortunately, as a character he absolutely fucking sucks and is almost impossible to take seriously.
He only functions as Belos. Not even Emperor Belos because once you bring in that title, you have to tilt your head and ask "Well, what is he as an emperor? How does he use his minions to enact his will? What is his will?" In that order:
He is a kind, stately emperor who only asks for one rule to be obeyed. Even if you stayed out of the fold, if you come to him willingly seeking forgiveness, you will be granted it and absolved of your crimes, like with the wild witch friend in Hollow Mind. He revolutionized the Isles, turning them from seeming small towns to a now interconnected nation (his rise to power is literally impossible with news being able to spread so people can fact check him) and brought safety and regulation to a land that has none (Terra acts like the Safety codes in Them's the Breaks are new or something so beneath a proper witch as to be able to be entirely ignored and no one cares.) No one faces persecution except those who flaunt breaking his one rule but you may be of any race, skin color, belief, etc. and he doesn't care. You are all equal in his eyes.
He uses his minions weakly. They are bumbling fools who are honestly better at party planning than they are at combat (look at... Literally any fight with the EC scouts frankly. The literal only wins they get is raiding an empty, unguarded house and attacking two exhausted, distracted witches who are out of power.) They are seemingly not punished for this though except supposedly at the higher ranks. Even then, they are merely demoted. Those who wish to leave also show no fear in doing so, as proven by the EC scout who says fuck this and goes off to join the cute cat coven. This displays a lack of interest in power or enforcement.
His will appears to be to bring order to a land of chaos. To bring structure and unity to a land that didn't have it. He will go to any length, including manipulation, lying and threats in order to obtain this. He keeps mystique about him, seeming to believe that being feared is stronger than being loved, fitting with his claims that the Titan speaks to him and wishes for a rather extreme societal change. One he will see to no matter what.
These are... Actually interesting. You know, until you remember his actual goal is the genocide of literally every living being on the Isles. Then they come across as incredibly stupid, inept and backwards for what ANY of his goals should be and that's without getting into how his plan explicitly left out the entire child population of the Isles. This means he didn't even actually want to get the job done properly before he fucked off.
That is befitting Philip and Belos though as actual manipulators. They both are on easy street as far as it goes. The one manipulation we see from Philip is by using two people who clearly want something from him and are interested in helping him so so long as he doesn't literally start throwing fists, he's fine. Belos meanwhile leverages Eda's curse against Lilith, an entire fake backstory against Hunter, and just being Kikimora's boss to get what he wants. Anyone not in the EC though he never manages once to actually convince of anything and he is pretty bad at actually keeping up his deceptions.
This is of course made worse by knowing that 400 years ago, that commanding presence that is Belos... Was actually just a whiny British bloke who couldn't even wait until after his victims were dead to gloat about it. I tooooootally still fear him, especially as S3 commits narrative contrivance after narrative contrivance to A: let him be ALIVE and B: to let him win, CONSTANTLY, without also murdering the main characters. Like he literally tells a group of witches and a monster "I'm saving your souls," while he has them all at his mercy, having already shown he was more than capable of beating them all... And leaves. Because he is REALLY bad at his goal.
And honestly, him being so bluntly tied to a movement, time period and ethnicity that all bluntly say he's Christian without saying he's Christian... Actually just kind of makes him worse. Knowing his beliefs makes his behavior BAFFLING. He has none of the actual zeal and fury of a crusader, who were so bloodthirsty as to have peasants march on their own as they screamed Deus Vult, nor does he have the actual politics and methodologies of colonizers. The closest he is is a missionary and that's not even the case because he's not interested in conversion, only genocide. He is just an asshole who has the label "Christian.
It says nothing. Most of his character says nothing. They slam you over the head saying he should be saying something, that his backstory should be deep and that he had grand plans but if you interrogate these claims, no he doesn't. He says nothing except "Christianity bad" and essentially condemns the ENTIRE RELIGION because of how little nuance there is to him, his backstory makes him look pathetic, whiny and potentially sympathetic which makes no sense with the rest of his character, and his grand plan was literally DESIGNED to fail because he never gave it any real thought or else he would have baptized witches into being in covens so they had the sigils from birth and he'd get ALL OF THEM.
He is perhaps the personification of what is wrong with TOH in this way. If you look at any one scene, it seems to promise so much. The animation is correct. The voice acting is correct. You can see what themes he's supposed to be talking about and can make a Twitter post very easily about it. But... These are all surface level and only function as moments.
As a whole story, as a whole character, it falls to tatters as you see there was nothing there except conflicting promises and basic fantasy tropes.
======+++++======
I'm trying to not blog about TOH as much anymore because I'm just kind of tired of it but Belos has always been a thorn in my side because there are so many scenes that are so effective with him but when I think of him as a whole, I have nothing but boredom and annoyance. So I wanted to properly explore that and highlight how little sense his character makes and why just consuming him like popcorn is functional, even good, but if you try to have him for dinner, you'll find only bones.

And what if suddenly half of my brain was occupied with a Swap AU, how funny would that be
A little blurb about my ideas for this under the cut:
So essentially Philip and Caleb grew up in one of those small, very religious towns that still happen to hold the beliefs about witches (I guess it would be in modern day but like one of those towns that feel like ur back in the 1800s). Then Caleb and Philip accidentally travel to the boiling isles, Caleb meets his witch wife etc. Instead of killing Caleb, Philip gets over his prejudice (kinda) because he sees how happy she makes him.
Then something happens and Caleb and his wife end up in the human realm with Philip/Belos stuck in the demon realm. Caleb works tirelessly to try and find a way back, him and his wife have Hunter, and 10 years later they move out of the town bc a. It still sucks, and b. Caleb has given up on finding a way back to the demon realm. Idk maybe I’ll have Caleb die during his work; either way, Hunter grows up not knowing much (or at all) abt magic or the demon realm bc no one likes to talk about it (his mom knows how it makes Caleb sad, so she also avoids the subject. She is also very weary about being outed as a witch bc she lives in that town).

In the demon realm, Philip studies magic to try and survive, pretty much the same as canon. Except for I imagine him going through one of the time pools that sends him like 100-200 years in the past and he gets stuck there. He does the carving glyphs into his skin, finding the collector, etc, so he’s still a gooey monster by the time Hunter finds him.
Now onto the present, similar to Luz, Hunter finds and goes through the portal door and adventures around before he gets attacked by Belos for trespassing. Hunter recognizes him bc of old family pics, but Belos doesn’t. Anyways, their bonding revolves around finding a way back (portal door belongs to Ed’s, but they don’t know that) and Hunter being super interested in magic bc no one at home talks about it.

Sense and Insensitivity really is an episode about sibling dynamics... Because it's more obvious to the audience with the B-plot involving Eda and Lilith, but don't forget the A-plot of Luz and King, especially with the hindsight of King being an actual child, and him openly declaring Luz is his sister!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Because Luz and King, Eda and Lilith; Both of them navigating their relationships and the awkwardness of how they do care, but there's also a little bit of jealousy with how one seems so much more successful and capable and dependent, and so the 'smaller' sibling feels the need to compensate for that and keep up. But also they still care for each other!!! The smaller one still wants their sibling to be their sibling!!!
So you have King boasting about his success with Hunter's favorite novel before opening himself to ask Luz sincerely to come to his book signing, plus Luz admitting she never really cared about the contest, she just wanted to have fun with King!!! And Eda feeling the need to one-up Lilith's jab but more importantly reveling in being childhood sisters again, and Lilith's whole inferiority complex but also legitimate guilt in offering to cure the Archivist's curse she inflicted. Luz and Eda actually think about having fun but for King and Lilith, there's this whole stake regarding their self-esteem here.
And then they talk it out! Mostly in Eda and Lilith's case! The confident sibling steps in to save the insecure one who gets themselves into trouble! They reiterate that at the core of it their sibling matters to them more than 'winning' the dynamic! It sets up Lilith acknowledging that between these mutually co-existing feelings -missing Eda but also wanting to beat her at something- she cares about Eda more and so she prioritizes that in defying Belos!!!
Plus Luz spending that episode just wanting to hang out with King, and then King realizing this, and them furthering their bond so by Really Small Problems he's the one who just wants to hang out with his sibling and he's wondering why Luz doesn't go back to him while enjoying her other friends, just as King himself went back to her despite having an entire fandom! So SaI is King taking Luz for granted only to realize by RSP that he really does care so much!!! It's making my heart tender y'all. Sense and Insensitivity is highly underrated to me and one of my favorites for the A-plot, and not JUST the B-plot!!!
Also man imagine being the Titan and watching all this. It must've been agonizing because sure it sucks to have a racist white guy bastardize your name and magic for the purpose of exterminating the civilization you helped come into existence. But imagine seeing your son get into a fight with his sister that you've considered adopting as the two get legitimately hurt and you feel for both. And there's nothing you can do but watch.

I see a LOT of people saying that the only reason Belos especially hates witches was because he was “born into a Puritan society” or smth relating to him being young when he was indoctrinated into that. Both of those factors ARE true, but there’s more. I hate it when people boil his motives down to just that. He obviously (as shown in King’s Tide) feels pretty guilty about killing Caleb in some way or another, though he’s a stubborn mf and would literally never admit to that. Reason being, he manipulated himself. He lied TO HIMSELF. He keeps telling himself “it was the witches!! witches suck!!!” and what not because if he was in the wrong, then he’s not the hero. If he’s not the hero, he did everything for nothing (like what Papa Titan said) He killed countless people for nothing, he cut his EARS for nothing, and most importantly, he killed the man who raised him for nothing. Also he can’t be redeemed whatsoever, he has a god-complex. He doesn’t WANT to be redeemed (that said, AUs are still ok because ngl I’m PRETTY sure people know damn well he’s much different in canon, hence the “alternative universe”) But seriously dude his character is so much more complex than what most people make him out to be and it PAINS me as a Belos fan 💔💔

I say this as a salty fan and not someone trying to be hateful (if it comes off as so please delete this ask), but I don't think Dana deserves Belos. As a villain, he's just too complicated and it sucks seeing his character kinda get ruined.
Personally, I think she does better with one note / one off villains like Tibbles, the inspector from "The First Day", the elderly ladies in the Body Swap episode, the publisher demon and the merchant demon from "Sense And Insensitivity" etc.
With those characters, you can enjoy them because they are meant to be one note, but not Belos.
Honestly, I feel that a lot of the characters remain either one-note or are reduced to one-note characters and it's not just the villains. Willow and Gus barely grow outside of being Luz's friends; they do get mini-arcs of their own but for the most part, they sorta stay in the background so they don't really stand out on their own.
Poor Amity went from a stuck-up perfectionist to Luz's Girlfriend. Once she breaks away from Odalia's influence, her characterization is reduced to just Nice and Kinda Dorky. There's none of that sarcasm or ruthlessness that she had in season 1 and if you're raised by a parent like Odalia, those kinds of attitudes and beliefs don't really go away. Amity may become nicer and more well-adjusted, but her edges have been sanded off, she's just boring.
Hunter was brash and self-confident yet once we learned more about him, his original characterization was replaced with Sad Boy Who Is Also Kinda Dorky. Now, could his cockiness been a mask this whole time? Absolutely. But we don't get much of his old personality Post Heel Turn, instead the show spends an inordinate amount of time traumatizing him and giving him barely enough time to process all that.
Lilith does better in the characterization department, but we still get Cool Aunt Lilith in the end. It seems like if you're a former Bad Guy, you get turned into a dork character to signify that you're no longer a threat and on the Good Guy Team. All of these characters had their edges sanded away and now they're nerds with interests like sci-fi/fantasy or academia.
As for Belos, I feel like the writers never had a real interest in him outside of him being the main villain. But his backstory makes him a complicated character and as we see with the above examples, the writers struggled with distinguishing their characters, let alone handling a nuanced portrayal of villainy.
Sometimes characters outgrow their creators and a character like Belos needed a crew that was actually interested in him in order to bring him to his full potential.

Tumblr media
“What a good little pet you are, darling.”
His voice was dripping with sickly sweet, honeyed condescension, and you were ashamed of the way it made you squeeze your thighs together.
He put a hand on your head, running and tangling his fingers in your hair before tugging your head back, he didn’t pull but the slight sting felt so good.
“Will you keep being good for me, love?” His eyes darkened as he looks down at you, the iridescent blue of his eyes almost losing its glow when desire overtakes his face.
The look of hunger, like he’s only moments away from eating you whole, makes you whimper slightly, much to his satisfaction.
He raised a eyebrow at you, “Well?” he already knows the answer, but he wants to hear you say it, he always wants to hear you say it.
“..Yes.” when he stared at you expectantly, you bite your lip before following it with what he wanted to hear, something that never failed to make him grip your hair tighter, to thrust a little harder, to spread his fingers wider.
“Yes, sir.”
The smirk that toys along his lips is truly devilish, dark satisfaction overtaking his tone, “Well done, pet.” He untangled his fingers from your hair in order to stroke it instead,
You let out another whimper, desperately clenching your thighs together to try and relieve some of the heat between them.
“Take off my pants, pet, that’s just right, good job.”
He’d slip his hand from your head to your chin, using his thumb to coax your mouth open as wide as he wants, and you complied easily, almost eagerly.
His length was in-front of you, and despite his calm, collected exterior you could tell how much you were affecting him, he wanted you just as badly as you wanted him, but he had patience, patience that you did not.
You could taste the little leak of his desire when he pushed into your mouth, it dripped onto your tongue and down your throat when he pushed in further, filling your mouth.
You made a muffled sound around him, and he ran his fingers through your hair, almost comfortingly, “Shhh, don’t worry, just a little more, you can take it.”
He always said that, but it was never just ‘a little more.’
He pushed further inside, and you started sucking slowly, gentle pressure that made him let out a low, warped growl, “Yeah, just like that, good pet.”
You gripped his thighs as he recoiled back slightly, only to push in deeper, his head was thrown back slightly, but those dark, hungry eyes never left your face.
You could see the way he revelled in the small, pleasured tears that built in the corner of your eyes, the saliva that would roll down your chin when you sucked harder, the way your eyes rolled back slightly.
He let out a few deep groans, and you could feel him getting closer, he’d tense under the hands you placed on his thighs for support, the way his hands gripped your hair tighter.
You thought he’d finish in your mouth, he used to do it on your skin with your permission, but he’s taken a liking to shooting it down your throat, carrying a piece of him when you leave his side.
Keeping a part of him around when you left for work or school, a reminder that you belong to him when those filthy rats tried to speak to you.
But when he tensed even more, and you were sure he was about to finish, he’d abruptly pull from your mouth.
You were confused and slightly dazed, your mouth still open, spit running down your chin and flooding you mouth, your eyes hazy with desire.
“Awh, love,” He parted out, his voice nothing more than a low growl that send shivers up your spine, “Did you think that’d be it?”
You really didn’t, even if he finished in your mouth, you know from experience their would he pools of both his and your own pleasure following that.
“Ah, um.” Is all you could let out, finally getting your bearings enough to close your mouth, he raised both his brows at you, “N-No, sir.”
He crouched down, your hands came to rest of the carpet underneath you, and he took your face in his hands, those lustful eyes promising a night of a thousand sins.
“Get on the bed, on your hands and knees.”
