i just noticed this really cool thing in the s2 intro of the owl house.

it shows lilith in this almost power like stance as if she's threatening someone it shows her as this basically enraged undefeatable foe and it shows her like shes a threat. she gives you the impression that she would never ask for mercy of any sort.

with hunter is shows him as the golden guard with his staff in hand and with his mask it demands power and respect it. it feels like your stereotypical warden who does a shit tone of bad stuff

then with kikimora she looks innocent and playful holding her cloth up to cover her mouth almost like a child would.

then with lilith when it turns it shows that what we saw before was basically just a facade. her hands are switched and shes looking down as if she's begging for either forgiveness or mercy. its almost like she's doing the action that's switched between frames

then with hunter his staff is gone and he's taking off the mask. both of which belos gave him to reassemble his power and his importance. yet its not here showing us that whatever we thought of this impenetrable warden that we saw before isn't true. once again it seems like he's doing this motion just like lilith

then with kikimora we see her crazed which honestly is just her whole buildup in the show which is pretty cool but she also looks angry. once again this seems to be done in one motion showing us that yknow 'theres more to them than we think'. as we get more of kikomoras insane devotion throughout the show (up until the part where she helps king) and i think this is supposed to show us that.

then we get belos scooping them up in his hand as if showing that he has power over them and that theyre his. he has control over them into doing basically whatever he wants

Belos is the worst of the fucking worst because he could’ve possessed ANYONE, he chose to use Hunter specifically a clone of HIS brother, because he doesn’t see Hunter or Caleb, for that matter, as people. He only sees them as OBJECTS, his to use and manipulate whenever he wants.

He murdered Flapjack like it was nothing because he didn’t see a living thing, he saw another tool. He’s the worst of human kind- he’s the least human of them all.

after like three minutes of both of you running you desided to turn into a shadow

after the collector left you looked belos dead in the eye and said "the only reason i have not killed you is because of the future i could have distroyed the moon stone by giving it to someone and asking them to break it and i gladly wound because if i do the world will fall into chaos but i cant because of the future dont forget you cant control me and you never will"

Hunter and Hindsight Bias

TW: child abuse, depression, self harm, suicide

This is something I realized very recently and it’s honestly quite sad.

So in psychology, there’s a principle called hindsight bias, which basically means that you look back at previous events and wonder how you didn’t notice something. This phenomenon can apply to pretty much anything, but one thing I find that it applies to often is situations involving mental health and toxic relationships.

Hunter’s character arc in the Owl House is a good example of this type of hindsight bias.

When you’re first presented with the Hunter scenes, some stuff about him may go over people’s head (like it did with me). You first see more of the negative traits, such as Hunter’s threats towards Luz and his overall abrasive nature to people. I first watched the show and I thought he was just going to be a typical edgy kid who gets softer as the show goes on. That Hunter wants to serve the Emperor and will only stop once he gets nothing out of it.

Then Any Sport in a Storm rolls around, and we get more of a direct comparison with people his age. That’s when a lot of people begin to realize that Hunter’s differences are not only tragic, but they’re out of his control.

We see even more of these signs of abuse in Hollow Mind with Hunter’s excessive denial over Belos, a common thing that many victims of abuse go through. This of course leads Hunter to run away from the Emperor and join the Hexsquad.

On a rewatch, I notice a lot more details in some of Hunter’s body language, expressions, and actions. You can see small things such as Hunter bracing when some gets close to him:

how scared he looks when he thinks he failed or will have to go back to Belos

and how a lot of actions that were first seen as manipulative or cruel, were actually more out of ignorance with good intentions or the need to save himself. His conversation with Amity about Luz’s message in Eclipse Lake is a prime example of the former (ignorance with good intentions disguised as manipulation) and his threats towards Luz in Hunting Palismen and Eclipse Lake are prime examples of the latter (survival disguised as cruelty).

Bottom line, I think many of us look back and realize that Hunter had these signs that he was going through abuse, but we see them a lot more once we know the truth. It really shows how well written Hunter is, because sadly, a lot of situations involving abuse, depression, self harm, suicide, or otherwise can have many signs that we miss in the moment, but we look back and realize that they were in need of help for a long time.

OKAY BUT WHAT IF

What if Luz wears Belos clothes cuz she went back and took his place. Like with the time pool.

Cuz basically every thing has like more then just one reason so why would the time pools only be used for that one interaction between Luz and Phillip. What if she goes back in time and tries to fix it but ends up messing up even more (the witches on the grave that turned to stone and the collector still existing) and the rest of the squad actually tries to fight her, at least for a moment?

Maybe Amity tells Luz that she has to turn the light on because Luz was just completely overwhelmed and Amity used the glyph as a way to give Luz some clearence cuz it's like their thing. Plus Luz looks so determined in all of the those scenes like she knows that it's all up to her.

Also pls Raine my baby. They can't actually die, like no plssss nooooooooo. My heart can't.
