What the Cafe look like
Tumblr media
[Sorry if the art look bad, this my first time drawing a building :')]
The Cafe is a 2 story house with a few plants decorated in the entrance of the Cafe; in the inside of the cafe would be like any casual cafes but there would be a smell of coffee mixed Ylang-Ylang. There's also a few posters of something that is encouraging or calming poster, there's also a poster of Barista doing a welcoming for whoever stumbled into the cafe.
On the second floor, it's where Barista is living! The second floor would have a bedroom, a small living room and lastly a bathroom! The inside of the Cafe is color in orange, yellow and pastel orange themed!
Barista!KickinChicken Backstory
KickinChicken was just like the original KickinChicken, living his best life in the colorful and beautiful world (the cartoon version but it's not completely cartoon) he was in the Smiling Critters group and befriending the other critters; DogDay, CatNap, Bubba Bubbaphant, CraftyCorn, Bobby BearHug, Hoppy Hopscotch and lastly PickyPiggy!
He also become CraftyCorn lover, have fallen inlove with the shy but caring unicorn and the person who have help him whenever he feel anxious or self-hating. Well, that was until his world suddenly destroyed, Kickin didn't remember much but he remember of how everything around him started falling down or dissapearing, even his friends... he still remember the sound of screaming coming from his friends, especially his lover.
After he wake up (yes, he fall unconscious when that happen), Kickin found himself in a place where there was nothing but white; there was no grass, no dirt or anything! Is like a blank space, Kickin would call it 'White Void'. In a place that was so unfamiliar and knowing his world is gone, Kickin have fallen into depression even crying of why he's also not being destroy like the others.
Until his star pendant started glowing, something that is unusual from the pendant that was given by CraftyCorn. When the pendant started to glow more brighter, Kickin could feel himself started changing! His body would started to grow taller and a bit bigger than his usual size, his hair/feathers getting a bit longer and a barista uniform would appear aswell!
After that transformation, Kickin have more questions running through his head and when he turn his head, he would spotted a 2-story houses or a Cafe appear out of nowhere and standing infront of him. At first, Kickin was unsure and scare until he slowly stepped inside and when he did, he could feel himself connected with the Cafe... as if he was belong in this Cafe and not only that, there was something telling him in the back of his head that his new role now... was to become a Barista and The Cafe Owner of the 'Kickin Star ☆ Cafe'
Kickin was a bit hesitated at first but he slowly accepted his fate and becoming a Barista and a Cafe Owner. His role was to help the lost traveler that got lost when traveling AU's or to help someone that needed to relax or to talk to. His cafe would only appear when someone needed to relax or wanting to sooth worries but sometime there are a few times where someone stumbled into the cafe without the Cafe coming over to them.

This has been a long time comming! I wanted to take the time to create a long post not only with fic recommendations but also other stuff. The Ghost community is so talented that I needed time to gather all of the amazing projects and ideas that flutter around.

—coffee fix.
Tumblr media
pairing: lee felix x barista!reader
genre: fluff, coffee shop au, non-idol au
word count: 1.7k
summary: felix's new year's resolution is simple, start liking coffee. the problem now is, he doesn't know whether he is genuinely succeeding at it so far, or he just keeps coming back to the coffee shop around the corner because of the cute barista he met there.
a/n: helloo, this little story was comissioned by @babygothchick and i personally thought it was the cutest. thank you so much for your support, i hope you enjoy it<3
comissions are still open!
Tumblr media
Felix loved the smell of coffee shops.
He loved the way the smell of baked goods so perfectly mixed with the one of coffee and it overtook his senses as soon as he entered them.
He loved the overall aesthetic of both coffee and cafés, and how cool he thought people looked walking around with their different shades of brown drinks on the streets.
Coffee itself, the taste of it, however, he did not love. Or, well, at least not the taste of it alone.
But he was working on it, and the coffee shop you worked at was beginning to make him change his mind. More specifically, you were beginning to change his mind.
He still remembered the first time he arrived there, a little over two months ago, at this very same time of the day. You were the only one working that winter evening, he guessed since it was hardly two hours before closing time and the place was pretty much isolated by then.
He had walked up to you behind the front desk and instantly smiled as you greeted him with what he found out to be one of the prettiest smiles he had ever seen — one that reached your eyes, which were a dark shade that could only remind him of strong coffee. Whether the connection had been unconscious or not, that was all it took for him to go for it and order an iced Americano.
Not the best of choices, he found out only a matter of minutes later.
It had been quite funny, actually — right after you had stopped visibly panicking, that is.
The disgusted expression on his face that followed the first sip of his drink was quick to give away just how much he hated it, and it did not go unnoticed by you. You freaked out immediately, apologising over and over as you believed you had either given him the wrong order or you had straight up fucked up his coffee. Rush hour had not been that long ago, after all, and you would not be surprised to have made a mistake after all the madness that had been going on earlier that evening.
But he smiled, shyly, ashamed, reassuring you everything was fine and that he actually hated coffee. He just wanted to give it a try, as everyone around him seemed to love it and therefore he had taken it upon himself to make liking coffee his main goal this year.
You had found clear amusement in his rather cute backstory, and, easy as that, that's how your little coffee journey together began.
He would come here every week and try out different drinks you would recommend for him, as you were now just as determined for him to reach his new year's resolution as he was.
He would always come at the same time, when he knew there were little to no people inside. He would always sit on the same seat by the bar, so he could talk to you while you kept on working. If you were busy he would wait for you to be done. If someone else was there to take his order he would just wait for you to come back. For it did not take him long to realise that what he enjoyed the most about coffee was you.
The smile that took over his face the second he saw you behind the front desk and your eyes met his that day, could only reaffirm that realisation.
"Hey, Felix" you greeted politely, walking up to the cash register. "Was wondering whether you were coming back this week".
"Y/N, hey" his smile grew brighter. "Of course I was. Can't live without my coffee fix".
You shook your head in amusement, as you knew well enough by now that he could most definitely live a very happy life without the weekly coffee fixes he had been forcing himself to get.
Looking away from him and at the computer screen instead, you began to enter the order he had been going for the past month — the only one he had managed to like so far. "I'll get working on your iced Mocha right away".
"Actually, um…" he stopped you. "I was thinking I could try something else today?"
"Got tired of Mocha already?" you tilted your head, quickly deleting what you had added to his order.
"Surprisingly, no" he chuckled. "But I thought I could give iced Americano another try".
Your expression right then must've given away how reluctant you were to that idea, because he was quick to explain himself.
"I know it seems like a long shot, but my friends look so cool drinking their Americanos like it's nothing, while I still need lots of sugar and cream not to want to vomit".
You chuckled, selecting the iced americano option on the screen just as he took out his wallet. "You can look just as cool with your iced Mocha, though".
"Not quite" he sulked with a shake of his head, tapping his card on the machine to pay for his coffee. "Besides, I'm finally starting to like coffee, right? I do enjoy iced Mocha after all".
"Mocha and Americano are very different, you know?" you taunted him with the obvious, getting a playful glare from him. "But, I mean, it's your choice after all" you handed him the receipt. "I can still add some extra sugar to it if you want me to".
"Nah, I want the real thing" he nodded determinedly.
Giving him one last smile as you knew right then there was no changing his mind, you grabbed a cup and began to work on his iced drink.
One single look at it after you had placed the plain coffee in front of him, was all it took for you to know he was already questioning his previous decision. Not backing away, however, Felix grabbed the cup and brought it up to his mouth. The sooner he drank it, the sooner it would be over.
It took him one second to try it, and another one to make the exact same disgusted expression he had made the first time he came here.
Instead of panicking this time, you laughed.
"Don't laugh" he pouted.
"I thought you were starting to like coffee?"
Gently sliding the iced Americano away from him, he crossed his arms in defeat. "Seems like I'm not after all".
"It's okay," you chuckled. "If it makes you feel any better, you still look the coolest to me".
"Shut up" he couldn't help but join in your laughter, as he adorably hid his face behind his hands.
"Mocha? Caramel Macchiato?" you offered, taking the Americano away from him as you knew he had no intention to finish it.
"I guess I could give the Caramel Macchiato a chance" he sighed, reaching for the wallet in his pocket so he could pay for his new order.
You were the one to stop him this time, shaking your head no before motioning for him to keep it. "It's in the house".
"But—"
"You didn't even finish your previous drink, I'm not charging you for a new one".
"Isn't there like, a coffee shop policy for that?" he teased.
"Oh, hush," you squinted your eyes at him. "Don't worry about other coffee shops and be thankful for the special treatment you get in this one".
Felix smiled at your words. Special treatment. He didn't know when he had started to want to believe it was like that. That you only treated him like that, differently to all the other usual customers you probably had on the daily.
Was that delusional of him? Not wanting to be just another customer to you?
He wanted to believe it wasn't, and that you genuinely enjoyed his company just as much as he enjoyed yours. It was that hopeful thought what brought him to speak up once you placed the fresh new drink in front of him.
"Speaking of other coffee shops, though…" his voice came out softer than usual, managing to catch your attention. "There's this new one that opened downtown, it seems pretty good for what I've seen. Got very good reviews".
You raised a curious yet daring eyebrow. "What, are you thinking of becoming an usual there now? Are my coffee making skills not good enough for you anymore?"
Felix's head was thrown back as a deep, throaty laugh escaped his mouth, finding genuine amusement in the way you had pressed an offended hand to your chest. "Of course not, your coffee making skills are the best".
You smiled, not letting your sudden shyness show. "So?"
"So… I don't know, I mean… I enjoy your coffee, as much as I can actually enjoy coffee," his words earned a laugh from you. "But… it would be kind of shitty to ask you out to your workplace and have you make our coffees, wouldn't it?"
Your heart skipped a beat. "Ask me out?"
"Mhm…" he nodded, taking a sip of his sweet drink.
You remained quiet, intently watching him as he seemed to be greatly pleased with the sweet mix of caramel and coffee. "You're asking me out?"
"That's what I'm doing".
"Like, on a date?"
Felix laughed under his breath, you looked so cute whilst in denial. "Yes, Y/N. I'm asking you out on a date".
"Why…"
"Because you're very pretty, and my type, and I really like your company and would love to spend some time alone with you without this barista-customer dynamic standing in the way" his words could only make your heartbeat race. "I understand if you don't want t—"
"I'm free on Saturdays" you cut him off, looking down at your hands as you tried your best to compose yourself before you could stare back into his chocolate eyes. "I must warn you I do enjoy my iced Americano and will probably look way cooler than you, though".
"I'll take the risk" Felix chuckled, eyes softening just as yours did. "Saturday it is".

Notable/Favorite works:
latte art series (10 fics / completed)
The inevitable coffeeshop AU, featuring hijinks, angst, and one deeply cynical barista.
Rating(s): G-M / Quirks: Crows Friendship, Developing to Established Kanej, Kaz's AU backstory, coffee shop au, Kaz centric
ten thousand miles away
He can best this. He bests everything, one way or another. Ghezen knows he’s cheated death plenty of other times before—he didn’t break into the Ice Court and take down Rollins only to die in bed at twenty-seven. Who dies in bed? Not Kaz Brekker, certainly. Not Dirtyhands. It’s six months to the day when Kaz first starts coughing up blood. The fever, as with all things, comes soon after.
Rating: M / Quirks: (Heavy) Angst, Established Kanej, Kaz Centric

Nothing is more disappointing than clicking on a fic for your OTP and it turns out to have what I call OC Stand-In Syndrome, wherein Character A and Character B have had their backgrounds, personalities and motivations changed alongside plopping them in an AU setting to the point where their names are just about the only thing tying them to who they were originally.
To use an example from a fandom I am not in now but saw a lot of this in when I was, take literally any MCU ship. Stony, but Tony and Steve are in the 1950s and Tony is a shy emotionally damaged Omega uwu and Steve is just a nice guy but not the badass who canonically would fight you for more or less any injustice you committed in front of him. Were their names changed to Antonio and Stefan, you would not recognize that they were supposed to be Tony Stark and Steve Rogers at all. Or it's Stucky, but it's a modern day AU and Bucky is a banker who falls for barista Steve and neither have any personality traits in common with their original namesakes outside of being I guess nice and arguably friendly with each other, though of course in addition to their childhood friendship being erased, so has their poverty, plopping them both into comfortable middle class backgrounds often with supportive living families, making them unrecognizable as far as origins go. Clintasha but Clint is a CEO of a company and Nat is a secretary with no dark backstory and they've never met until one day their soul marks activate and they go on a series of dates where they reveal personalities, backstories, interests and desires that do not match canon Clint and Nat to the point where you don't know why these two were chosen as the named characters.
If you want to write original fiction, by all means, go for it. Write your 1950's A/B/O M/M romance with an emotionally broken, shy uwu boy and his skinny sexy chivalrous Alpha. Write that coffee shop M/M middle-class-without-the-uncertainty thing. Write your busy workaholic cutesy secretary who fate has wed to a CEO and aaaah she's so nervous aaah why is this so awkward. Those are things with audiences who will love them and were they not presented to me with the names of other characters on them, I might like them, too.
But when I go looking for A/B fic and I just find a fic with a character borrowing Character A's name and they're into a character borrowing Character B's name, my thought isn't, "Wow, what a great A/B fic!" it's "you must've accidentally used find-and-replace to put in the wrong names on your OCs".
I got out of Reylo for exactly this reason. I like Reylo. I don't like the latest Sad Girl OC with a different backstory and either much more wallflower or viciously snide personality (depending on what the author thinks is cute/cool) and Sad Boy OC who lacks the rage issues, familial issues and ongoing flaws that make Kylo interesting.
And now it's creeping into my latest fandom and I'm just so tired. Please, I just want to read fic of two characters, not two of your OCs who you haven't named yet.
--
They probably find their portrayal IC, but yes, this often irritates me too.

I think people tend to misinterpret characters by glossing over many complex nuanced aspects of their personalities to fit archetypes they want to interact with (in a fandom way) and to help their shipping goals by means of this.
I find it far more intriguing thinking “what would it take for these two characters to fall in love” than justifying whether their canonical relationship is romantic or if it’s a “good” ship.
This could take the form of underlying circumstances in the plot of the story or even an AU where they’re baristas in college and not in world-ending scenarios, but also with new developed backstories and prospective development of their characters due to these (theoretical shipping story’s) events.

Tumblr media
The semester had fully kicked in. Things were getting better relatively.
Despite the shitshow that was your first day of class, classes were for the most part insignificant. You haven't had to think about your ex-boyfriend and even your somewhat hostile relationship with Levi had grown stagnant.
It wasn't better by any means, but you had gotten used to it. It had gotten to the point that you've even grown to make a joke out of it. It was a game for you to annoy the ever living shit out of your grumpy roommate. It provided a good distraction from school and the other stressors that you had to deal with outside of home. You were making the best of what you had. Plus, when it came to handling his responsibilities as a roommate, he did his part. That was at least better than when you were living with your ex. It was some sort of upgrade, although it didn't feel like it.
Walking from your apartment to the cafe felt absolutely miserable. The wind was providing heavy resistance against you to the point that you felt like you had weights strapped onto your legs. You hoped that the rest of your journey onto campus wasn't going to be as miserable.
Your hair was a hot mess by the time you reached the cafe and stepped into the door. You shook your head to let your hair settle down again, although you knew it was going to get messed up again the minute you stepped out the door.
You grimaced as you looked up and saw Levi behind the counter. You weren't surprised at him working this time, but you made sure to let him know your displeasure whenever you were forced to see him.
He matched your expression, scowling at you.
Your face lit up as you saw the other two baristas also behind the counter. It was rare for all three of them to be at the cafe at the same time.
"Good morning, Onyankopon! Nicolo!" you said with a cheerful wave before giving a disgruntled side-eye towards Levi. "And Levi."
Levi scoffed, waving you off.
"Your pastries are on the counter. Take it and leave before you sour my mood further."
You stuck your tongue out at him as you walked towards the pastry counter and he made an intentional effort to ensure that you saw the extent of his eye-roll in response.
You walked up to the barista that was primarily responsible for the pastries in the cafe. Nicolo was an undergrad—the same year as you, although you rarely saw him outside of the cafe—that helped Levi and Onyankopon start up the cafe a year or two ago. Levi provided the tea, Onyankopon the coffee, and Nicolo the pastries. His passion for baking and cooking made it more than appropriate for him, which resulted in him being more than happy to help you out when you mentioned wanting catering from somewhere other than the university dining services.
Your club was having its first general meeting later this afternoon and you wanted to prioritize being able to provide food to increase retention. Many college students, especially freshmen, were food-motivated and you knew this. University catering was boring and had questionable quality. You wanted to provide something different.
"Got five each of the finest pastries I got!" Nicolo said gleefully as he opened up one of the cardboard boxes that he had neatly packed a multitude of pastries into. "I must say, most just use the student dining services for catering."
You walked up to the counter and looked in the box, your mouth immediately watering upon both the sight and smell of them. Even if none of the freshmen wanted them, you'd be more than happy to take them for yourself. It was sure to be a refreshing upgrade from the monotonous university dining meals.
"Well, what can I say?" you said as you closed the box before you were tempted to eat one on the spot. "I like your stuff."
You tried not to look as Nicolo tried to hide the quickly growing grin on his face. These pastries were his pride and joy, so having even one person voicing their preference for his products was more than enough to make his day.
The boxes were neatly stacked on each other, but the empty space between the top of the pastries and the top of the box made them a bit wobbly when multiple were placed on top of one another. Still, you wrapped your arms around them and looped your fingers under the bottom.
"You got it?" Nicolo asked, looking slightly concerned.
"Yep," you muttered. As long as you were careful, you should be able to get all the pastries out of the cafe and to your destination without any casualties.
Your nerves were a bit ramped up as you unsteadily picked up the boxes, but you were determined to do it. You were the one that insisted that you could pick up the food on your own without help from any of the other officers, so you were stubbornly determined to go through with this.
You gripped onto the boxes and turned away towards the door.
However, you had turned a bit too fast, immediately bumping into someone, sending one of the pastry boxes tumbling to the ground.
"Oh, I'm sorry!" you exclaimed as you set the boxes down to check on the fallen one. It was just one box and the fall wasn't particularly far, so the pastries weren't damaged, much to your relief. However, the person you had run into was nowhere near relieved.
"God, the least you can do is watch where you're going," they grumbled, clearly not giving a rat's ass about your pastries or the fact that you were struggling to carry all the boxes on your own. All they had on their mind was the fact that you inconvenienced their day by accidentally bumping into them.
Levi watched as the customer continued to chastise you. He wasn't a regular customer and seemed like someone that was passing through campus. He seemed the type to be irrationally condescending to anyone under the age of 30. Levi frowned as the stranger continued to make commentary to the point of being verbally abusive—muttering sexist and ageist comments on top of accusing you of being careless and having little to no social tact.
Levi waited for you to tell him off. As annoying as you were, you weren't deserving of those comments.
You never did. You immediately conceded upon hearing his comments, hung your head low, and mumbled a quiet apology before immediately leaving, taking your pastries with you.
Levi's eyebrows scrunched together at your lack of a reaction. Anyone watching that interaction would have agreed that you weren't in the wrong and would have been justified in delivering a very offensive 'fuck off' to the man scolding you.
Plus, you weren't like that at home. You didn't tolerate any shit at home. This duality that he had noted at the beginning of the semester still weirded Levi out. It supported his theory of you lacking self-respect, but it didn't make him any less uncomfortable with it. It was strange to have to see you code switching back and forth every single day.
The frown never faded from Levi's face, even as the customer began to approach the register to order from him.
Levi knew that his customer service skills were subpar and he didn't particularly give a shit, but his next words were hostile, even for him.
"You get off on bullying the undergrads?" he asked, frowning at him.
He was feeling oddly hostile and he wasn't entirely sure why. Levi shrugged it off as just him being more irritable than usual, which was exacerbated by the fact that this customer had caused a ruckus, but he knew that wasn't entirely true. There was something else that pissed him off about that interaction, he just couldn't put a name to what it was.
"What?" the customer asked, taken aback by his comment. "Are you talking about that brat that ran into me?"
"More like you ran into her," Levi responded dryly. "Your ego big enough that you can't see in front of you properly?"
The customer blinked at Levi, genuinely not expecting this amount of attitude from the barista.
"Excuse me?"
"Tch," Levi muttered as he clicked his tongue and rolled his eyes, walking away from the register, indicating for Marlo to come take over the register to serve the now more-than-agitated customer.
~~~~~
You moved on surprisingly quickly from the somewhat frustrating encounter you were forced to endure in the cafe. You had felt a sudden spike of anxiety when you dropped the pastries, but began numbing over the minute that you realized that you were being publicly chastised.
Some deep part of you knew that this was some defense mechanism that probably fed into your tendency to be conflict avoidant. You knew deep down that you didn't 'move on' from the situation, you just repressed any lingering feelings of frustration. You had to if you wanted to avoid breaking down on the spot. Getting scolded publicly like a child was bad enough. You didn't need the world to also see you emotionally break down in the middle of some café on the outskirts of some university. It'd only play into what he was saying: that you were a child with no social tact.
You took a deep breath as you impatiently tapped your finger on the clipboard you were currently holding. You had set up for your club's first general meeting. There was a sign-in sheet, a sweets table, napkins, paper plates, and plastic utensils for students to grab on the way in.
The structure of the club itself was simple. You were the president, Oluo the vice president, Gunther the senior representative and treasurer-secretary, and Petra the social committee chair. You had wanted to branch out on the executive board, but the shitshow that occurred last semester made it difficult to recruit with what little you had already prepared.
Oluo had been organizing some of the flyers that you had already printed and organized, which easily translated to him not really doing much of anything, before muttering something about being short on utensils and promptly leaving the room.
Petra was setting up writing utensils next to the sign-in sheet, and Gunther was setting up the projector to display the PowerPoint you had put together that neatly described the purpose of your Honors Society. The purpose of this first meeting was just to do outreach to any interested freshmen in the program. All you had to do was the introduction and then the remaining time would be spent socializing and eating to try to build rapport with the freshmen.
You felt your social battery rapidly draining as you saw the amount of students—a mix of freshmen and sophomores—trickle into the classroom.
"A lot of freshmen this year," Gunther mumbled next to you.
"Well, we did do that event at Shiganshina High School last year and I guess it caught their attention."
Your finger that was tapping on the clipboard increased in speed and intensity. You knew your comment wasn't entirely true. That event was rushed and mostly just consisted of finding students that had applied to Paradis University without an official major and putting in a subtle plug regarding your organization. It was one of the many events last year that just seemed to blur together.
"Still, twenty?"
You shrugged at Gunther's comment.
"We'll know after winter break which ones stay once grades start coming in. It usually levels out."
You glanced at the door and saw Oluo reappear with a box of utensils, chatting away with one of the freshmen, before promptly tripping over a power cord as his teeth clamped down onto his tongue and he howled in pain.
You frowned at him as he walked up to you in pain.
"Who the hell is that clumsy that they bite their tongue while talking?!" you scolded.
"You try entertaining the freshmen while carrying supplies," Oluo mumbled.
You rolled your eyes at his reasoning and turned your attention to the students that were each taking their seats at the tables you had set up around the room. You glanced up at the clock that indicated that activities officially begin in thirty seconds.
Taking a deep breath, you began to walk towards the front of the classroom, trying to calm your nerves on the way. You had put a lot of work into making this club work so that you could provide a safe space for the students that were quirky like you and weren't able to settle for a satisfactory standard major. You needed to make sure everyone got a good first impression. It would be a major blow to your pride if it flopped.
"Okay!" you exclaimed, putting on a smile as you looked at the somewhat dumbfounded expressions that they each gave you. "So, welcome to the Individualized Honors Society! We're here to provide a space for students on an individualized track to try to build a sense of community since a lot of the other organizations are specific to your majors. We're primarily social, but we can host networking or academic events if interest is there!"
You had already practiced the introduction, so your nerves quickly faded away as soon as you started talking. After going over your membership fees (or lack thereof—you found it ridiculous that someone should have to pay for social support) and how you'd compensate through fundraising, you handed the floor over to Gunther, who provided some more explicit examples of fundraising events that you had already planned for the rest of the academic year, such as food sales or paid workshops.
The meeting itself went smoothly. After Gunther gave his spiel, Petra went on to talk about some social activities to form that community that you had mentioned, like going out for game nights or plans to host end-of-year activities. Oluo then went to talk about some more general stuff and networking activities, such as a writing conference for any English-based tracks that was occurring within the next week.
You flipped through the sign-up sheet near the entrance of the classroom as the other officers continued talking about what your society had to offer. There were a total of 20 students, but the first six seemed to have come in as a group.
The students began to each introduce themselves as well as what their academic track was in—or if they were undecided, what they were thinking about. You took note of that first group that walked in.
There was a brown-haired noisy boy that seemed to give off a vibe of being overwhelmingly stubborn with a dark-haired girl wearing a red scarf hovering over him protectively—Eren and Mikasa, you noted as their names. Next to them was another blond-haired boy that hung out with them, but appeared to be the only one that seemed to have sustained interest in what each of the officers were saying.
Sitting a table away from them was another brown-haired student, although his hair was lighter than Eren's and he was a bit taller in stature—he introduced himself as Jean. He seemed to be primarily hanging out with the other two students at the table—Connie and Sasha—although he did seem preoccupied with Mikasa, consistently shooting glances her way.
Throughout the meeting, Connie primarily hung out around Sasha, who was rapidly devouring all of the pastries that you had brought over from the café.
Just from the 10-15 minutes of introductions, you were already somewhat able to see the dynamics of the incoming freshmen. You shook your head subtly as you felt feelings of resentment and envy rise up within you. Having a friend group was something you craved, but never truly received. You didn't have a group that you could call your own, which you knew translated into your continuous efforts to form that sense of community, which has recently done nothing but bite you in the ass. You weren't sure if you were doing something wrong or if others' didn't care, but you'd be lying if you said that your loneliness wasn't eating you alive.
You took the next twenty something minutes to regulate as Gunther began brainstorming some events, knowing that you couldn't be getting this worked up over just seeing some freshmen interact after only knowing each other for a week. You remembered being this excited to enter university and meet new people, although your situation did make it difficult to have the traditional experience.
Everyone's faces lit up upon Petra proposing a social event next month at an arcade after midterms. This provided you some sense of calm, as that reaction would likely translate into member retention.
After socializing for a bit, the freshmen began trickling out and you let out a breath you hadn't even been aware that you were holding in. Given how nervous you were about getting the club set up in the first place, you repeated to yourself in your head that today was a relative success.
"Damn, that one girl ate all of the snacks, didn't she?" Oluo muttered as he helped you pack up the unused utensils.
"Well, that's what we got them for," you said in a matter-of-fact tone as you tied up the garbage bag and prepared to take it out with you.
"You sure we have everything down for the social next month?"
You raised an eyebrow at his question, as if you thought he was joking.
"Well, you are the VP, so your help would always be appreciated," you said slowly, suggesting that he should step up more in terms of planning activities.
"What are you talking about?" Oluo responded as he shrugged off your undertone. "Of course I'll help!"
You grunted at him, indicating that you didn't believe a word he said.
"Just look up some spaces we can reserve for next month. I'll handle the booking."
Even you delegating yourself the task to book a venue was more than you should have been doing. Any social event planning was Petra's job, but you knew that you'd have to pester her repeatedly to get it done on time and dealing with her grouchiness was the last thing you wanted to think about.
This was just another instance of you being forced to take care of everything, although it was more akin to you not providing resistance when the other officers didn't feel like doing their jobs. You enabled them to be officers by title-only without any merit, but you also couldn't bring yourself to set that boundary and have that conversation over the appropriation delegation of tasks.
It's not that you didn't want to. It wasn't even that you couldn't bring it up or that you never got the chance to. You had become so desperate for this to work that you were willing to take on all of the responsibilities and do it yourself, instead of having to have that difficult conversation with the other officers, who were also the closest thing that you had that could compare to having a friend group.
~~~~~
After cleaning up, all you had left to do was to go back to the café to pay your bill to Nicolo. The original deal was that you'd pay the difference if there were any leftovers, but there wasn't. If Sasha was to be a regular member, you'd have to adjust your budget. Of course, this was technically Gunther's job, but you found yourself taking care of it as usual.
"No leftovers?" Nicolo asked as you walked up to the counter with your phone.
"Nah," you muttered as you looked around, noting that Levi wasn't there. "One of the freshmen really loved them, so we ran out like 20 minutes in."
Nicolo's face lit up at that announcement.
You frowned at your phone as you pulled up the bill that Nicolo had just sent you.
"Is this right?" you asked, glancing up at him. "I thought it was more expensive when I placed the order."
Nicolo nodded and shrugged.
"Figured I'd give you a discount since you're a regular. Plus, it didn't feel right to charge you the full pricing since you're a friend of Levi's-"
"Levi is not my friend," you said sternly, scowling at Nicolo.
You immediately noticed that Nicolo fell silent and realized that you likely responded in a much more hostile tone than originally intended.
"Sorry," you said quietly. "He's just-"
You paused for a second, trying to find the best way to explain your hostility towards your roommate.
"He's just a lot."
After a few seconds, Nicolo spoke again.
"He'll grow on you."
"Ha. Doubt it," you muttered as the mood lightened up again.
"I'm serious!" Nicolo exclaimed. "At least he cares, you should've seen what happened with that dude that was being a douche this morning."
You gave him a skeptical look, having zero idea what he was referring to. Sure, you had run into a customer that decided to throw an onslaught of insults at you, but you had no idea how Levi was involved.
"Levi's not the best at customer service, but some of the comments he was throwing his way was a bit much, even for him."
"Really?" you mumbled as your skeptical look only increased. You didn't believe a single word that Nicolo was saying.
You hmm'd to yourself as you thought of all the possible reasons to explain this. Nicolo wasn't the type to lie to you—and there was no reason to lie about Levi doing this in the first place.
"Well, I'm sure he was just grumpier than usual," you rationalized to yourself as you turned away. "Thanks again for the pastries."
You shot Nicolo a smile.
"Will be back for sure."
"Looking forward to it!" he responded with a wave as you walked out the door.
You pulled your hood up and stuffed your hands in your pockets as you walked towards your apartment. You had mentioned that Levi was likely grumpy and that's why he stood up for you, but that wasn't good enough of an explanation for you.
It didn't make sense.
He couldn't possibly be defending you. You wouldn't be surprised if he actually shared some of the same opinions that formed the insults that were being thrown at you this morning: that you were someone that was annoying, ignorant, and didn't have a single clue what they were doing with their life.
He must have had some ulterior motive or Nicolo must have grossly misinterpreted his actions.
There was no way that your aloof and grumpy roommate would ever even give a single shit about how you felt or how you were being humiliated in public. It wasn't in him. He wouldn't waste the time of day.
There was some contextual factor that was missing and you couldn't stop yourself from ruminating over it.
~~~~~
Levi was more than ready for the day to end.
After getting home from an incredibly annoying shift at the cafe, he had spent the next two hours meal prepping for the week. He neatly pre-portioned everything into ten containers—two for each day.
He spent the entire time internally chastising himself. He had no clue why he got as worked up as he did over the man that knocked you over. He had no reason to care. You were as annoying as always, but he found himself getting really angry as soon as that man opened his mouth.
Anyone without the context of your shared ire towards each other would tell him that he's exhibiting protective behavior. Even he could admit to a small part of that—and that irritated him further.
He still wanted you to go away and to get out of his life so he would never have to see you again.
So why did he get so angry?
He rationalized that it might be because he saw you immediately reacting submissively to the customer and that's what pissed him off since you reacted so differently around him. If it was him that knocked you over, you would've immediately told him to fuck off.
He groaned to himself as his ire towards you grew. He couldn't go a single day without you screwing something up in his daily routine. He just couldn't understand you.
The door unlocked as he put the final container of his meal prep into the fridge.
You stepped into the apartment, slowly bringing down your hood. You had been ruminating on the entire walk back to your apartment.
Levi Ackerman had stood up for you.
If it was anyone else, it wouldn't be such a world-breaking surprise—but it was Levi, who was basically your sworn enemy at this point.
You slowly walked up to the kitchen and placed your keys down into the little bowl on the counter that you had set aside for the two of you to keep track of them when you were home.
"...thanks..." you muttered awkwardly, your voice barely above a whisper.
Levi looked over at you and blinked a few times in confusion.
"What?"
You avoided his gaze, beginning to regret even bringing up the topic.
"I said thanks," you repeated. You wanted to shrink away into your jacket and bury yourself so that he couldn't see you anymore.
"For what?"
This confirmed it. Nicolo had misinterpreted. Levi definitely wasn't standing up for you. You had wasted your energy and this conversation would likely sour your relationship further.
"...that guy that ran into me," you continued, despite internally accepting that any gratitude was misplaced.
"What about him?"
He knew what you were talking about. He found himself getting annoyed again, but this time, it was at the fact that someone probably told you about him telling off that customer.
You shuffled in place for a while, unsure how to word the situation. After all, you've been very hostile to Levi up until now. Neither of you were expecting this exchange, but the part of you that still respected Levi as a person felt obligated to, as uncomfortable as it made you.
"...for talking to him after I left."
Levi scoffed at that response.
"If you consider telling him to fuck off as 'talking', then sure."
It made you even more uncomfortable that he didn't deny it and instead confirmed that he had been hostile to that customer as a result of your interaction. No one had ever stood up for you like that before and it made you very, very uncomfortable that Levi was the first one to do it. You'd expect him to be the last.
You finally looked at him and saw him giving you a blank look—a pleasant change from the usual scowl that you were consistently met with.
"Just thanks," you mumbled, "I guess."
He grunted.
"Just actually stand up for yourself next time, won't you?"
You remained quiet, unsure of how to respond.
It's not like you didn't want to assert yourself in these types of situations. You knew you should have. That man was in the wrong and overreacted, but you always found yourself having a lot of trouble standing up for yourself in the moment. That's how it's always been.
You watched as Levi turned away and walked towards his room.
You were weirded out that he stood up for you, for sure, but your gratitude was genuine. No one had done that for you before, but knowing that at least someone said something gave you a subtle feeling in your chest that you didn't mind, even if that someone was Levi.
No, it was only because it was Levi that you even had that subtle feeling. You had so much animosity with Levi that you knew he did it without an ulterior motive. He wasn't looking for anything from you.
He did it just to do it.
That realization only confused you further. Feeling gratitude towards him felt strange and abnormal, but it was undoubtedly there.
You shook your head, telling yourself that it was just a fluke—but it was a fluke you didn't mind.
Mafia and Barista tadc au
Are we going to have more of Agatha lore? In the fic she mention to Pomni (I don't remember the human name you gave her xd) that she was trained by her parents to continue the business. I want to know how she lose her eye owo
I assume you're referring to Amanda lol. Alright, I'll bite. I don't have the entire backstory; however I DO have some bullet points!
-Amanda's parents were two mafia leaders who wedded in order to make their numbers stronger. They fell in love later on, but in a sort of morbid fashion
-Her heart shaped scar came from an acid incident. That was the closest thing to actually killing her
-How her eye was lost was because of a fire-based explosion that actually killed her dad. She was 21 when it happened
-She learned how to shoot a gun at age 5
-Her handy six shooter pistol is from her mother as a hand-me-down before her mother died. She died before her dad- specifically when Amanda was 16
-She used to legit babysit Jax when he just started out working for the mafia
-Amanda has a love for dolls and has a collection of them due to her aunt having them. Her aunt's still alive btw
-Her love for shooting people's kneecaps was due to an incident where she accidentally did so with her uncle
Okay it's me, the "au masterpost" anon. Copy and pasting cause the info on google docs and connected to my personal email so uhh here it is:
- Characters -
Scar: avid adventurer. looking for Grian, one of the most well-known and mysterious adventurers who just… retired one day. wants to get advice about adventuring and combat. does not know Grian is flower folk.
Grian: runs a flower shop, used to be a formidable adventurer (see further notes below). has a minor rivalry with a gardening store across the street. Collabs with the coffee shop for limited drinks
Mumbo: grian's coworker who's very entertained by the scar antics and occasionally teases him about it. often seen with a broom and dustpan as grian “sheds” so much
Bdubs: runs a coffee shop, mainly works as a barista rather than a manager as he’s short staffed. knows all the great gossip in town although he rarely gossips himself. dislikes Scar as he holds up the line when venting about his crush on the flower boy. Collabs with the flower shop for limited drinks.
Cub: Scar’s traveling buddy, was the one who found out what town Grian retired to.
Pearl: a witch who runs a crystal/herb shop. nobody knows where she came from. one day her shop was just there. nobody questioned it.
Cleo: runs a small pawn/thrift shop with Joe. was a pirate before she drowned. Joe brought her back against both their wills and now she’s his problem
Joe: former sorcerer who quit after he was forced to resurrect a dead pirate so some people could question her. the two ran away and now run a small pawn/thrift shop together
Doc: runs a small gardening/produce shop across the street from Grian. also a retired adventurer, lost his arm and half his face after winning a duel he was supposed to lose.
Ren: works at the gardening/produce shop. werewolf, just becomes a big dog when he turns.
Impulse: helps run the village inn when he’s not trying to keep his cousins out of trouble. dwarf who's the go-to when it comes to knowledge about different species of people. usually busy running the front desk and does all the heavy lifting.
Zedaph (satyr) & Tango (fireborn): Impulse’s cousins. help around the inn occasionally, but are often on long adventures out of town
Gem: satyr who owns the village inn. Zedaph’s sister and Impulse’s cousin. usually busy with housekeeping.
- Grian flower notes -
When sick: flowers closed off and in a budding state/wilted
When scared: thorns starts to surround and wrap around him- does hurt
When flustered/happy: large growths of red flowers that tend to fall off easily
When upset: blue flowers grow when sad, small violet clusters when anxious, and large orange flowers when angry
Additional skills before retirement: plants helped him sense others around (it only works when he’s in like an area where plants are naturally made like forests and such), his flowers would also attract his victims and prey, from how pretty they are, leaving a trail, or even the smell (same smell every time).
Ideal date: walk around in places with pretty structures or land
Weakness: fire
- Event notes -
Flower crowns
Scar injuring himself to get rare flowers
Scar vents to Bdubs, Grian vents to Bdubs, Bdubs sits back and enjoys the show
Scar learns the backstories of some of the village folk
Cub, Bdubs, and Mumbo make a “these two are super clueless and keep venting to us” club. Cub is the only chill one there.
-
(Essentially, scar and cub would stay in the inn, and through a series of events Scar would learn about the the shopfolk and a not-so-slow burn romance would happen between him and Grian (the slow burn is becuase they take so long to actually confess)
Oh I would love to hear more about "Morpheus is aware he has acquired somewhat of a reputation." 👀<3
ahhhhh okay so this is ... THE COFFEESHOP AU, the one inspired by the art by @levionok where hob is a barista and dream's a pastry chef, and in the same universe as tomorrow is a place we are together and this post
and... that is actually the only line i have written? oops... BUT i do have a lot of backstory that i've rambled to @ghostboyjules about on discord so i will paste that here!
i actually drew a tiny bit of art for it and it's tentatively called "when coffee dreams it dreams of chocolate"
Tumblr media
so i was thinking about pastry chef/chocolatier morpheus in the coffeeshop au and that he probably got into Food and Cooking because it's like... random ingredients coming together to make something beautiful and he sees it as his creative outlet but he's awful at expressing himself still... so he's like, oh, okay, ingredients make Sense and are Precise and have Defined Results Every Time... and he's like a kinda creative type who reads a lot and pines after people from afar and his whole life everyone's just been like, "so that bloke morpheus is kinda weird or what???"
but then he gets to culinary school and people are like "oh. he has VISION" so he hides behind that a bit
and he sorta ages into somebody who can make it Look Cool but at his core he's still. just. just awkward as hell. blasting his goth and new wave music in his kitchen... expressing his feelings through pretty chocolates.... lurking through the bookstore. going to goth clubs just to Feel the Music
but in pastry school he can make beautiful things with ingredients and pour his love into them and all of a sudden people are like "oh, the 'hmm' is Vision and Genius" and it's easier to let them believe that than to be like "no, the 'hmm' is just me"
then hob meets him and is like "oh, he's a lil 'hmm' and i LIKE IT"
in this AU calliope became an event planner or something, or maybe even like an Actual Chef. they initially met in culinary school and were like oh, haha, your parents liked mythology too, huh?... and they were together and in love and married and had a restaurant together—some kind of bistro or something—but then they had like, clashing Visions and a huge falling out that made waves in the culinary world and kind of gave morpheus a name for being haughty and proud
so now nobody wants to work in partnership with him but they grudgingly respect him because his artistry is amazing. and calliope and morpheus actually do have a son, but calliope has sole custody
hence the anonymity, not giving hob his name at the coffeeshop, because morpheus moved and started over and now he runs his own bakery. but it just opened recently and he doesn't want scandal to follow him. he just wants to bide his time and remake his own legacy
i imagine that it's like, the kind of thing that is high-profile if you're in the industry but if you just own a random little coffeeshop you wouldn't know him type of deal
his bakery is a lil artsy place with murals on the walls that he also painted and he plays goth and new wave playlists over the loudspeakers and all the staff get to dress as counterculture as they want. he's a little insane, basically. and @valeriianz - sweet dream from the neighbors AU is TOTALLY a vibe... i imagine this place being a bit like that?
i imagine he also does stuff like encourage local artists to do street art on the walls outside, so at random hours of night there's just folks with spray paint and paint buckets and ladders, vibing and eating lil baked goods and "love my way" is blasting out the front doors and morpheus is sitting on the stoop just hanging
that's probably his shop opening party. he plans on it just being one night for opening but all the artists are so happy to do it and they ask him to consider making it a regular thing and he's like "...i will consider it" and then it becomes a once a month thing. (perhaps this is how hob finally sees him in his element - he invites hob to come to one of the paint nights and hob brings a ton of delicious coffee for everyone without being asked and totally falls (even more) in love. everyone raves about the coffee and asks hob to come the next month and morpheus is like "oh no... this is a Thing now..."
in the future, after they're together, hob can serve coffee at these art nights regularly and morpheus can know the healing feeling of having someone still want him and want to share things with him and collaborate with him even after truly knowing him
so before they know it hob is in the inner sanctum - up in the middle of the night while dream makes melted chocolate for dipped strawberries at the bakery, and hob sits on the counter reading him walt whitman
"you know, just because i make excellent coffee doesn't mean you don't need to sleep, love."
"i am in the midst of creation, hob."
"your sister won't like it if i let you keel over from exhaustion."
"my sister is not here."
"mmhmm, and i am."
(cue morpheus standing between hob's knees where hob sits on the edge of the counter. taking the book out of hob's hands with the hand not covered in melted chocolate so the book is safe from harm. hob taking hold of his other hand and carefully licking the chocolate from morpheus' fingertips
and in the end they do end up in bed, so hob counts it as a victory)
Backstory: An alien warrior from planet Aurora who designed high tech weaponry from the planet's raw materials. His first encounter with a human was when he met Yunho, who was on a smuggling mission to Aurora. San assumed that Yunho was another greed-filled thief who came to his home planet to steal, but became friends with him when he found out they had a shared interest in weapons design. He was intrigued by Yunho's stories of life on Earth and decided to follow him back.
Choi Jongho {Nightingale}
[22 years old]
Tumblr media
(based on Dinah Lance, Black Canary)
Tumblr media
Backstory: An only child living in a small town with his parents, he was born with a mutated voice box that allowed him to physically manifest soundwaves with his voice. He accidentally hurt his father with it when he was a kid, and started to see it as a curse for the majority of his life and didn't speak much out of fear of causing harm to others. At 18, he moved away from his parents to live in Seoultham to lay low. He eventually heard from word of mouth about Mingi's expertise in tech, and went to him for help in building soundwave-muting technology. Mingi did built a device for him, but also encouraged him to embrace his ability and got him to join the Birds of Prey.
>Works as a barista at Nightbrew Cafe
>Lives with Wooyoung in a suite located on Diamond Street, which is just across Felony Alley (16 Diamond Street, #1, 1117)
>Occasionally does singing gigs at bars, and is known by regulars as Lucifer's Bard due to how sinfully addicting his voice is
-He started singing from a young age as he thought it would help to build control of his ability
>Wears a necklace made of a metal that absorbs excess vibrations, allowing him to speak normally without having to constantly watch his volume (takes it off sometimes to fight)
>when fighting crime, he wears a cloth mask made of a special fabric that San brought from Aurora. It allows his voice to pass through without interference while still providing coverage for his identity
>Came off as uptight to the other members at first, but Mingi brought out his real fun-loving and laid back personality
Jung Wooyoung {Kitty}
[23 years old]
Tumblr media
(based on Selina Kyle, Catwoman)
Tumblr media
Backstory: Grew up in Seoultham and got by with his good looks and street smarts. At 17, he started to date a rich young man who would often abuse and berate him. Soon after, Wooyoung was kicked out of his house by his parents who found him disgraceful, and was stuck with his then-boyfriend who eventually broke up with him and left him alone and penniless. Wooyoung took revenge by breaking into his now ex's penthouse and stealing all his expensive possessions, which was when he developed a knack for stealing. He was living off stolen goods when he met San (who had just arrived on earth) and befriended him. San, being the sweetheart he is, invited Wooyoung to join the Birds of Prey, which Wooyoung, albeit with some hesitation, obliged to.
>Works as a museum curator at the Visage of History Museum
>Lives with Jongho in their suite (rent is paid off mostly by Wooyoung's salary and "souvenirs" from his occasional heists on local robbers)
>His alias, Kitty, is known by locals and authorities as a genderless vigilante who is efficient and quick, as well as extremely slippery and hard to catch
>Used to steal from the wealthy out of desperation to survive and was an infamous cat burglar, but stopped after joining Birds of Prey
>Has very expensive taste and splurges the team's money (not that they mind, though)
>He occasionally ambushes and robs the illegal jewellery smugglers that he hears about from his police friend Changbin and the museum staff
>Knows reader through Taehyun and Yeonjun
>very physically affectionate, often subjects the rest of the team to overly dramatic displays of affection
Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Let’s spread the self-love 💖
First is definitely Pull The Shot, steam the milk which is now a series. It’s a college coffee shop AU inspired by my time as a barista pre-pandemic. I love that version of David and Patrick so much, and writing the sequel was the happiest I’ve been in a while.
Just for fun is a David/Patrick/Rachel threesome fic. It’s angst and smut, which is completely my brand. There are no villains here, just a lot of personal realizations and happy-adjacent endings all around.
You were there all along was a fic I wrote for a rare pair fest. I didn’t plan for it to be so long, but once I started writing I couldn’t stop. I’ve never written a story that fast in my life. The whole thing was drafted and fully edited in about 3 weeks. I also really played with form and format. It’s written in Stevie’s first person POV, and the first two chapters are past tense, while the second two are present tense. I poured my entire heart into this one.
For the History Books was my first RWRB fan fic. It’s told from the POV of Alex and Henry’s teenage daughter, who learns about the 2020 election, and the Email leak, from her high school history textbook.
However, I do think my most beloved, treasured fic is: Strange Alliances: the Life and Fights of Emma Swan (Once Upon A Time)
This was the first novel length fic I’d ever written and it was an amazing experience (at one point I had a bulletin board full of notecards to try and organize everything. It felt so fucking cool)
The big challenge here was that I only had 5-6 months to write and fully edit the fic, so it was a rushed process.
It was also my first time writing action/adventure. There were ship battles, magic spells, sexual tension, some light torture of certain informants. It was like nothing I’ve ever written before or since.
One of the dreams of my life is to go back and edit the shit out of it. The first 7 chapters are just backstory, and most of those chapters stand alone.
The real action starts on chapter 8.
I tag anyone who hasn’t played or who wants to play again. What are some fics you are proud of?
Continuing to be in Hell (or, more Ghost Ideas)
I have Ideas about a few Ghost-centered GhostSoap fics that I do not have the time or energy to currently write, so please accept these meager offerings in their place
1. Obligatory sickfic. I feel like I haven’t seen enough/any of these, and the potential is delicious. Please it’s obligatory this is also a request for someone else to write this too. The fever-induced flashbacks, etc, caretaker Soap, the flavours are melting in my mouth
2. Obligatory coffeeshop/flowershop AU BUT I’m making it more traumatic.
I’m thinking Price runs 141 Coffee (@bluishfishfood has an absolutely wonderful coffeeshop AU comic that I’ve sold my soul to and it is my inspo for this)
There’s a flowershop down the way that’s been closed as long as Soap and Gaz have been working at 141, until one day Gaz is like “Hey did y’all see that tall grim reaper-looking dude going into the closed flowershop? Wonder what’s up with that?” And Price books it over, because he knew the owners of Beth’s Flowers before, and he knows there’s only one Riley left, a tall grim reaper-looking dude, and maybe he’s excited maybe he’s scared, what the hell could Simon be doing in his dead brother and sister-in-law’s old shop?
Still deciding how Price and Ghost know each other, cause still debating how angsty with Ghost’s backstory I want to go. Could be very in line with comic canon with Roba and everything, and Ghost just got discharged after because he’s unfit for duty (which Price would know him through SAS). Could be just tragic car crash or something and maybe Price was one of the cops that dealt with it or something. Or could be somewhere in between, where the Riley family was just wrong place wrong time and got targeted by some fucked up people for no reason at all, and Simon had managed to be in the right place at the wrong time and missed the break in, the fight, the gunshots reported by the neighbors, the bloody beatings, and the torched house to destroy the evidence. There are murderers in this world, and entire families die. Maybe Price was a cop on that case too, and took Simon in for a bit after, till one morning Simon was just gone. And Price looks for him, but the kid was always a bit of a ghost, and Price can’t blame him for finding some corner to blow his brains out in, but he can blame himself - so he retires, opens a coffeeshop once he goes stir crazy, and suddenly Gaz is telling him Simon Riley is back.
Anyways Price shows up expecting nothing and anything, and sure as shit Simon Riley is standing in the middle of Tommy and Beth’s flowershop. He’s decided to try to reopen it, maybe sell plants as well as cut flowers (things you can root and grow and keep alive - there’s uh some symbolism there)
It still takes ages for Soap, Gaz, and the others to actually meet Ghost - Price can still see the cracks in Ghost and keeps his idiots on a tight leash, only letting himself be the one to run across the way every day to drop off a tea (on the house, of course).
Eventually, they meet, obviously. Maybe Soap’s closing up the late shift, and turns around and suddenly there’s a fucking demon in front of him - of course it’s only Ghost, in all black with a skeletal medical mask and skeleton gloves and hood up and somehow didn’t ring the bell over the door on entrance - but Soap had already shit himself.
Basically this one is just about healing, Ghost remembering his family without getting pulled down by them, and hey if there’s a mouthy barista just down the way that writes stupid as shit jokes on your cup it’s a plus as well.
3. Undercover Mission. Basically I’m gay uhhhhhhhhh They have to infiltrate some high end gala or something but it’s a group/person the 141 has dealt with before and “Everyone there is gonna recognize our faces, Price”, “Well there’s one face they’ve never seen”. Cue a pissed off but holy shit fucking sexy Ghost stepping into the room in formal wear and no mask and basically I just want Soap to have the biggest gayest crisis of his life and then have to be on overwatch for Ghost and be forced to continue to stare at Ghost’s ass and his face and his hair and his forearms holy shit watch him through a scope as Ghost makes the mission his bitch (and if Soap gets possessive watching assholes talk to/flirt with his unmasked and unarmed Ghost, well no one has to know (Soap’s dick definitely knows))
4. Supernatural AU. Same military setting as normal, but supernatural beings exist.
Price is a therianthrope (i.e. human that can turn into different animals). His go-to is a bear, but will also change to hawk pretty often for scouting. There’s a handful of other more normal animals he’s pretty good at, but bear is the most comfortable for him.
Gaz is a werewolf (this may or may not be mainly for the cat and dog jokes Soap can and will make).
Soap is an empath, and a very powerful one. This isn’t in any of his files because a lot of people are against empaths doing the hard and dirty work groups like the 141 does - they’re worried empaths might be more susceptible to flipping sides, and to torture, or may crumble from all the death around them. They’re usually in overwatch positions like Laswell’s, able to help with their abilities without actually being a “liability”. At beginning of fic, no one in 141 knows he’s an empath, though he doesn’t exactly hide it anymore, he just also doesn’t broadcast it. He can also manipulate others’ emotions, and force them to do stuff even if they don’t really want to. Still working on what to call it, but only powerful empaths can do it, and it’s usually a very slippery slope. Soap’s very careful with his Commands, partly because he’s very aware how terrible it can be to be Commanded, partly because it’s a surefire sign of a powerful empath and he is still trying to fly low, partly because his older sisters would kick his ass if any hint of a Command slipped out when they were all younger, but mostly because that’s just not who he is.
And Ghost? Oh boy. Ghost was born human, but is now a hybrid, which is a mess of issues. Hybrids cannot be born, and to create hybrids is illegal basically everywhere in the world, so basically just by looking at Ghost you can tell something happened. He’s now part big cat (yes I’m making catboy Ghost stfu), and has the ears, tail, sharp canines, and senses of a feline, and makes sure to hide all of it. His eyes also look just the slightest bit off, but with the mask you don’t notice. (I’m also thinking about giving him little Wolverine-ish claws that retract in and out of his fingerpads but are very painful and bloody to do so). In case it isn’t obvious, his forced transformation was a result of Roba. In case it isn’t obvious, the amount of trauma this bad boy can fit into him is Massive. He’s a monster now, but not even a normal one, no, he’s the only monster that’s still literally illegal. His issues with seeing himself in the mirror. Hiding the ears, the eyes, the tail, etc in his Ghost getup. The trauma potential... Going into fic, only Price knows he’s a hybrid
Everyone finds out about Ghost being a hybrid and Soap being an empath in a span of minutes at the end of a mission one time. Soap had rigged a bomb to give them cover to get the hell out of dodge, but something went wrong with the fuse and it goes off way too early. Not early enough to ruin the mission, or frankly even to seriously injure any of them, but Ghost, for some reason, goes down hard. Luckily, Price is with him, and drags his ass to exfil and into the copter, but he’s acting like he took a piece of rebar to the lungs and Soap can’t figure it out but fucking hell if Soap himself isn’t feeling the nauseating pain Ghost is putting off. Soap doesn’t know what’s wrong, but he knows he’s never felt Ghost hurt in this way before, and he knows it’s his fault.
Quickly enough, Price rips the bandaid off for all of them, pulling Ghost’s mask off in one short action, and the first thing Soap sees is cat ears, and the second is blood. It takes longer than it probably should for Soap to put together the pieces, and even longer to remember that cats have some of the most sensitive hearing among mammals, and that Soap’s faulty bomb ruptured Ghost’s sensitive eardrums and then some.
And boy if that copter isn’t a mess for a while after, cause Ghost is in a lot of pain and his face is bare and his team knows how much of a freak he is etc etc etc, while Soap is the one actually crying because Ghost is in a lot of pain which means Soap is too (and maybe those higher ups were right about empaths being useless in the field) and Ghost is in that pain because of Soap and also Ghost is a hybrid which means something bad happened etc etc etc
In between crying Soap is just like “Is now a bad time to tell y’all I’m an empath???” And Price, who is trying to assess Ghost without Ghost literally killing him for it, just pauses, and very tiredly goes, “Yes, Soap, it is actually”. And Soap goes, “Oh, okay, forget that then”, and goes back to crying on Gaz.
It all turns out fine in the end, Soap makes a bunch of cat and dog jokes, Gaz is bummed that they have an all supernatural TF and can’t brag about it, Price goes full Dad on them all, and maybe Ghost learns he’s still capable of being loved, who knows
If you’re still here thank you holy shit I didn’t mean to write that much... If anyone wants to yell about these please feel free
One day I’ll write at least one of these...
🎭 Can you envision your OC in an alternate universe? What au would you choose and what role would they be in that world?
For Luca!
I love this question, because whenever you're writing a deeply traumatized character you start to wonder who they'd be if they hadn't gone through all this awful formative shit.
I've sketched a conversation that takes place much, much later in the series between people who knew Luca before he was taken by the Commissioner and those who only met him after. This was a useful exercise for me because I was able to identify three attributes of Luca as a child that were lost, submerged, or perverted due to his conditioning: chattiness, bossiness, and a desire to please. Luca was one of those endlessly curious kids who never shuts up, the kind who's always asking "why?" and only conks out once they've run out of steam. He could also be a bossy little shit, always making "helpful" suggestions about how a process or activity might be improved. And he was motivated by a deep, driving need to make other people happy. Especially adults, and especially those in positions of power.
The Luca we meet in TGB is about as far from chatty as it is possible for someone to be, but I've enjoyed giving him opportunities to revive his curiosity. His relationships with Asher and particularly Doran have revived some of his bossiness, too. And while he still wants so much to please, he has become more critical about the worthiness of those who have power over him.
The alternative universe I imagine for Luca is one in which he was never taken by the Commissioner. While I expect he still would have suffered at the hands of the occupiers, he would've had his brothers for protection. He would not have undergone the additional trauma of losing his language and cultural identity, or been forcibly transplanted into a culture where he was treated as a hated enemy. And he wouldn't have suffered years of brainwashing that sought to strip him of his personhood.
I've always seen Luca as a Bard, and in this AU his Bard characteristics would be much stronger and clearer, and uncomplicated by the silencing and disempowerment he endured in his TGB backstory. He would be much closer to the chatty, bossy kid he was in Kel. He wouldn't have to find his voice, because it would never have been taken away from him. As a result, he would've become the leader he's meant to be much sooner, and with a lot less mental anguish.
I do think that Luca in any universe would need to overcome his people-pleasing. This is just an innate part of him, and learning to value his own happiness would probably still be a crucial aspect of his growth and development.
Having written this, and looking back on the prompt, I'm now wondering whether I could take Luca even further afield from the TGBverse and drop him in, say, a coffeeshop AU. I can see him as a sweet but anxiety-prone barista whose therapist recommended he get a job where he had to interact with people in order to coax him out of his shell. I imagine him as a burnt-out former dance prodigy now taking classes at the local college and trying to figure out what he wants to do with the rest of his life.
Enter a tall, red-headed customer with a crush...
