✦ Lost in Limbo Devlog #5 | 08.31.23

August is OVER and that means a brand-new Lost in Devlog!!! 💜 We are very excited for September to begin because that will definitely mark a new era of Lost in Limbo's production as the whole team will be finally free of the shackles of the spanish education system!

This devlog contains mainly progress in the programming and writing department (yours truly in charge), but we have also made some progress in the art department.

In addition, we will use this devlog to discuss a few changes and decisions we have taken in regards to the course of the demo—so feel free to grab a drink and join us for the ride!

First and foremost...A glimpse of our main menu! 🎉💜 I have been working hard this month to implement the UI as we finally got the files, and I've also animated and programmed the main menu screen, the configuration screen, save/load, etc. The dialogue box and everything else is also implemented and working perfectly, and of course we have a custom cursor thanks to miss Raquel! 🎉

Needless to say, LiL is my first coding adventure, so I'm sure our code isn't perfect or in optimal condition, but hopefully our Kickstarter will allow us to hire a programmer to fix that. I think I've done a pretty good job considering my lack of experience!

Also, special thanks (again) to our dearly beloved @crescencestudio for bearing with me and graciously lending a hand when I struggled the most. They are officially my ren'py mentor and I'd like to take a moment to illustrate our my struggle to y'all with a simple screenshot:

This month our dear Raquel has been working on backgrounds when she's had a moment, and this is one of the pieces she has been rendering and polishing! We'll also take a look at another background (a really important one) to bring it up to our new standards. As I said in another devlog, the master degree we were (and still are, until the 15th) attending has changed our way of seeing and approaching art pieces, so we are looking into improving pieces that are still in the making!

First of all; we are super proud and happy to welcome a new member to the team of Ravenstar Games: Allie! They'll be our editor and proofreader, and I'm sure you know and love some projects she's been on, like Blooming Panic! or our recent and beloved Intertwine. They are a fantastic fantastic writer, an incredible person and a passionate dev that I've had the pleasure to know and work with for a while now, and I would trust no one else with the script of our baby! (and if you are a writer, you know how hard it is to let others read your stuff sometimes. It's like baring your soul to them; it could only be Allie for me!) So please give them a big warm welcome!!

For the writing department, some devlogs ago we talked about the script suffering some changes—well, they have officially solidified now!

We have cut some content that was not exactly relevant for the first experience we want y'all to have with the game. A lot of context and exposition that helps, but is not absolutely necessary to enjoy what is perhaps the most important thing for an indie team and their game; the first demo and the impression it leaves behind. That content has not been scraped and we have decided to save it for an extended demo; the first demo will still be as long as it was in the beginning, as a lot of new content has also been added to prioritize the LIs, which is what you are here for.

We also made this decision because we were once more faced with the reality of: there's only four of us and it's not realistic to do seven LIs + six supporting characters + their expression charts + 13 backgrounds + everything else for a first demo. We are learning as we go, for better or worse, and sometimes you have to sit back and say "right. this is not going to work" so we had to do that. Sadly, we were not realistic with what we wanted to do, but hey, we all get too excited and dream too big sometimes!

This changes will ensure you get the best first experience with LiL without losing important, meaningful content, and hopefully be excited for what will come later. In my humble opinion, the demo script is now in much better shape than it was a month ago. Trust. And just wait for Allie to edit it—that's going to bring it to perfection.

Oh! We'll also be modifying the Masterpost soon as some things are a bit outdated and can be improved, so expect to see some new stuff in there!

It's 1 am here right now as I write this. I'm in bed. Today has been a day. Tomorrow I'll take a look at this and correct a million typos. See? Another reason we need Allie with us. There's screenshots to take, videos to make, and everything is slowly coming together. We are in really good spirits, motivated and hopeful for the near future. This has been long enough as it is, so as always, thank you for being part of Lost in Limbo's journey, and for the love and kindness you give us again and again. what's your favourite sims death?

ngl i dont actually have one, im terrified of any of my babies dying so they never do...but i guess old age maybe? because that means theyve lived a long life and ive played with them for a long time?

alpha cc or mm?

alpha HANDS DOWN...i dont hate mm by any means dont get me wrong, but ill always be an alpha girl at heart. its the alpha hairs, they always get me.

do you cheat your sims weight?

only if it fits their character i guess? not usually in gameplay.

do you move objects

i move objects every single day.

fave mod?

ooofff i mean out of necessity? nraas. but just the one i love? hands down pose player. mostly because i was so excited when i finally got it to work (i was like 13 or something and before then i could not figure out how to get mods to work) so a lot of happy memories from finally getting my sims to pose.

first expansion/game pack/stuff pack?

my first ever was sims 2 glamour life stuff pack when i was a kid. if we're talking sims 3, i believe the first pack i got was generations, which is still my favourite sims pack ever.

do you pronounce live mode like aLIVE or LIVing?

i pronounce it LIVE, always have as far as i know.

who's your favourite sim that you've made?

well, its gotta be elodie honestly. she and eli are the longest sims i have ever had and i love them both dearly. in the sims 4, its gotta be my girl pippa. before tumblr? i had this family called the moretti's, i miss them and i think about them way too often. i loved them all.

have you made a simself?

oh yeah. loads of times. i think ive shared my sims 3 and sims 4 variations on tumblr (but they look really weird tbh). i love making myself, cause then i can wear all these clothes i cant afford in real life.

favourite ea hair

im with aimee on this one.

im mostly joking, but usually sims 3 hairs are a no go for me, except for some store ones and the hairs that are pulled back into buns always look really nice. for sims 4, only the newer ones. the older ones are not for me.

favourite life stage?

young adult. i feel like you can always do more with young adult sims and you have so much more time (except in sims 1 i believe?and sims 2 only if u went to uni?? idk). 90% of my sims are forever young adults because i love that life stage so much.

are you a builder or are you in it for the gameplay?

mate ive been trying to build for donkeys years to no avail. so im almost always in it for the gameplay.

are you a cc creator?

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA BAHAHAHA HA once upon a time bro maybe. your girl tries to be, but uni is a pain in my bottom, and sims 3 loves making my life difficult.

somehow i do?? more friends then irl anyway. the girl gang is @thesimperiuscurse , @lazysunjade & @amuhav these 3 have put up with me despite my crazy personality for an incredibly amount of time and i love them all dearly. but i have so many friends on here its crazy (more than 3 people its incredible!). obviously they havent seen my real personality yet. besties include: @catharsim , @plumbobem , @johziii , @rollo-rolls , @moonsonnet , oh gosh im forgetting people I AM SO SORRY I LOVE U ALL SO MUCH

bro i wish, but no money. spent it all on anno 1800. no regrets.

i believe formally i do, but i dont post anything. i do have some ideas if i ever wanted to, but my adhd brain couldnt cope being consistent so i probably never will.

how has your "sims style" changed throughout your years of playing?

as in sims or gameplay? idk ill talk about both. gameplay wise, not much, except im weirdly a lot more controlling then i was over my sims WHOOPS. but i still cant get passed gen 2 so that hasn't changed. but i still prefer family gameplay, probably always will. and challenges, always challenges. sims wise? a lot.

with my blood, sweat and tears. im not joking, a lot of sweat and tears goes on when im editing.

what expansion/gamepack is your faveourite?

of all time? generations, no doubt in my mind. i never had any sims 1 or sims 2 expansions, so i never got to experience those unfortunately. generations was perfection though. i mean, boarding school? lifesaver. also led to the best sims series of all time: lifesimmer's generations. for sims 4 though? probably get together, purely because of the world.

Destroy the System: Part 1

This is a usual Genshin Impact SAGAU x Iron Harvest 1920+ crossover. But this time it's different. This time it's based off of an idea I once noticed here known as a Teyvat "World System" (I cannot remember the original post where I saw it, but kudos to them).

First off, the reader/creator is not Isekai'd within Teyvat, rather they're still in the real world. They're also aware of SAGAU fics.

The self-aware Genshin Impact characters are unable to interact with the Creator because the system limits it. If characters act out of line, the system punishes them via jolts of pain akin to that of an electric shock. When the action is small and barely noticeable, the shock is only a bit painful. But when it's a large, very noticeable action, the pain is akin to that of Xiao's karmic debt.

They so dearly want to interact with you, but this system won't let you. It's also virtually unbreakable, so their hopes and dreams are blocked by this overseer.

...Or are they?

Nahida, using the power of Irminsul, manages to catch your attention by overriding your map generation when you started a new World Map game in Iron Harvest.

That's the backstory that leads us to our current moment.

Warning: I think I carved up dialogue. Also might be incredibly wordy.

You are seriously confused.

You just started a new World Map mode in Iron Harvest, choosing the Schierlands as the map. Then, you chose "Storm on the Horizon" as your scenario, and finally, you chose Saxony as your faction.

After the loading was completed, you're somehow face-to-face with Nahida, the Dendro archon from Genshin Impact. She bears a friendly smile. You just stared with a perplexed look as to how this is happening.

"There you are, your grace," She said, the text showing up as if this was a cutscene. Okay, now she's saying stuff that isn't even in Genshin Impact. You quickly moved your mouse to the "X" button, but it didn't work when you clicked it. You noticed the look on Nahida's face shifted to a slightly sadder one. "Please, don't go. I need your help."

You also noticed something behind her. It was Irminsul, the tree of knowledge. You quickly deduced that this is a SAGAU situation and that you're probably dreaming. Just to check, though, you pinched your cheek. "Ow. I guess I'm not dreaming," you said.

"Just in case if you're wondering, you're not dreaming, your grace," Nahida said. "I'm using Irminsul to communicate with you." Okay, might as well listen to her. "Perhaps this can help you speak with me." You noticed a chat bar pop up at the bottom of the screen.

"What is all of this?" You typed in. You were absolutely confused about all of this. "I've... actually called you for help," she said. "You see, all of us, all of Teyvat, is self-aware of you. You are our creator, after all. Guiding us, helping us grow stronger..."

"And we loved you for that." She finished with a smile. "So we wanted to interact with you, but... that was when we found out about the system." Her smile faded. "It's a program that restricts us from helping you. If we disobey it, it inflicts pain on us."

The screen faded to black and it displayed Bennett tampering with what looked to be code. He tried setting your current primogem counter (which was 3,200 before you spent it all) and tried to double it. But the block of code glowed red, and then all of a sudden, he screamed hysterically as there was red lightning surging around his body. This lasted for a good ten seconds before he fell unconscious. Fischl, finding him, gasped and helped him out of the code.

The screen faded back to Nahida. "Every time we try to help you, no matter how much or little, the system hurts us." You picked up on the fact that she now had tears in the corners of her eyes. Man, this sucked. You hated seeing people cry.

You typed in the words "how do I help?" in the chat bar. "I'll show you, your grace," she responded. Suddenly, the world map was generated. This was a different map from all the others. It was a long, thin island, and your capital was all the way to the left while the enemy capital was all the way to the right. All of the other regions were taken by the enemy; guess it's just you and that capital city. Your singular commanding army bore a logo of a golden flame, alongside an abnormal starting strength of 8. The enemy had no army.

The most peculiar part was that both of your factions were different. Yours simply bore a squarish shield with a sigil that resembled a golden four-pointed star. The enemy faction, meanwhile, had a circular shield with a sigil resembling a red eye.

Nahida spoke again. "I've managed to manifest an area occupied by you and the system. This will allow you to fight the system directly in this world of 'Iron Harvest' as it's called. I've also been able to grant you more technology ready at your disposal", and cut the system's income to not activate until a while later."

"All of these situations are annihilation-based, so you don't have to worry about other objectives. Please, your grace. Win this fight. I believe in you." Before the chat box disappeared.

The game had begun. Well, you did have a few hours to spend, it was the weekends after all. Nothing serious is also happening, so time to fight!

You checked your army, and- holy Jesus Nahida wasn't holding back! You had the barracks units of ALL FOUR NATIONS alongside their basic mechs. Your army was also massive; instead of the usual 20 unit slots, yours had 30. You even had ten slots unlocked instead of the usual seven or eight. They were filled with three squads of Polanian riflemen, a squad of Rusviet engineers, a squad of Saxonian medics, a Saxon field cannon, a squad of SHM-60 Grozas, a squad of S3-55 Wards, an SHM-86 Kolokol, and a ZR-3 Revere. Thank god your PC can run all this. Otherwise, it would be fried.

You also had a starting income of 550 coins, and your capital city was producing 75 per turn. Every region captured would give you 50 more. Using this large-scale income, you bought out three more slots worth 50 each, spending 150 coins out of your large budget. You filled these ranks full of PZM-7 Smialys for scouting.

You did lack a hero unit though, so that might be a problem.

You moved your army over to the first region, which had a defensive value of 6. While you could just auto-battle this, you'd rather just manually fight them so you can produce more units to amass an army.

When you clicked the orange combat icon to fight in that specified region, you checked the description of the mission at hand.

"This is the first major attack post, your grace. The forces here are Polania's most barebone ones, so use their faults to your advantage."

You clicked 'fight now' and noticed that you had a deployment budget of infinite. There was only one deployment area with twelve buildings which were likely the HQ, barracks, and workshop for each faction. The enemy only had one HQ, which you know from the description is a Polanian one.

You deployed all of your units as you got ready to fight. Let's see if this system can stand against this 'Creator' of Teyvat.

In my humble opinion, khajiit will follow is an incredible mod.

Brief introduction to the characters. Bikhai is a aspiring member of the companions, that is to say is actually is not a member and is more of a housekeeper. (Please if you do that companions quests take him it's so sweet). Nanak a scholar you can find at the bards college! He does not have the normal diction of a khajiit, but he slips up occasionally. Ma'kara (my love) a refugee from Morrowind on the lookout for her brother, she can be found near dark water crossing. Her story is one of grief, which you can help her through. Last but not least, Sa'riq a sneak thief found in Riften jail. He's just been caught after a botched heist. For me you just have to experience his quest for yourself, I love him dearly.

I literally love all the characters so much, I took them out a load order once and my game felt off. The voice acting is also great.

Not to mention they are even better if you play as a khajiit, which I do often. I mean it's just great.

Beyond the characters they also do very well in combat. I mean having all four around at once feels like a DnD party. What's even better is you can customize how they fight! They even have separate storage for equipment.

While the romance is not something like Kaidan, it is still very sweet. I've only married Ma'kara but have read the literature pertaining the others as you can't marry them right away. I mean to marry Nanak you have to have read a certain number of books, and talk to him about books he's read a few times. Which I find adorable. They all even have their own quirks. They do pretty much everything a vanilla spouse will do, but all have unique things to say about being married to you.

From my playthrough they don't have much in the way of quest commentary, which personally I don't mind. They do however will mention things about factions. If you take Sa'riq to the College of Winterhold he will jokingly say he might "borrow" some books. When you tell him to be careful and not get caught he jokes and says he'll feign innocence and blame you. I find it very on brand.

The last point I want to bring up is Inigo. He by all accounts is the Khajiit follower, so how to they compare to him? They don't. That would be like comparing apples to oranges. All five characters are different and only really share a race. Do not expect them to be like Inigo cause they are not. One thing I love about this mod is to get their commentary you have to actually go up and talk to them. I prefer this, and it's similar to what Gore is like in that regard. That isn't to say they don't have radiant dialogue about caves and such, but it's not common.

BG3 Patch 4 woes

Update: *waves a white flag* Puts all my mods back into the game and most of the old saves. Even after removing the mods, reinstalling the game, and updating my graphics card the damn kiss still doesn't work. So. I. GIVE. UP!

I only have the kiss on Anna so, after weighing all the pros and cons, I'm just going to keep my mods and progress. Given Anna's game was started waaay back when the full game dropped, and all the patches she's been through, I wouldn't be surprised if perhaps the kiss only glitched with just her. Cautiously optimistic Larian will fix the kiss for everyone eventually. Until then I'm just going to just play and try to enjoy the rest of the game.

Yesterday, after I noticed we got hotfix for patch 4, I decided to load up my oldest save with Anna and tried to kiss Astarion. As usual, since patch 4 dropped, I got nothing. Frustrated, I changed Anna's hairstyle back to her old default one and tried to kiss him again. Nothing. I then created a new save and closed the game. After I removed all my mods I loaded up that new save and discovered I can't even click on anything now.

"Great, just fucking great!" I mutter to myself as I created another save after removing all the mods. I then shut down the game, booted it back up, and reloaded the "fresh save" in the hopes that would fix it.

Nope! Of course, it did not work. Again, I couldn't click on anything. I next tried to make a new game. I got the infamous half-a-dozen naked guys around the Dragonborn Durge chilling in the astral area bug. Never in my life have I been so disappointed at seeing so many pixel dicks at once.

So yeah, at this point, I'm pretty sure I've lost everything. Still, I try not to cry about it. Instead I look at it as a chance to start fresh. To widdle down all my Tav's and Durges I made to my top favorite five. Plus since I made a habit of taking lots of photos during character creation I figured, "Hey at least I can easily recreate them and this time avoid some of the mistakes I made in the past."

Silver lining and all, right? Before uninstalling, I did try to verify the integrity of the game's files, to no avail. So, I bit the bullet and reinstalled the game. I did back-up my old saves, but I doubt they will work even after the reinstall.

My only complaint is the waiting. It's been well over 15 hours, and the game has still not finished downloading. I'm currently at 61%. Yaaah for potatoe download speeds. If this reinstall doesn't work, I might cry then. As I'll have to uninstall again, dig into the folders, and make sure all files have been purged.

Due to this headache, I think I'm going to run a vanilla mod-free game for the foreseeable future, which sucks because at least two of my fav Tavs/Durges use mod heads.

Rest in peace my lovely favorite Tavs and Durges, at least for now. <3

Vincent: Mod head, hair, and gear. My grump Durge that I won't be able to recreate anytime soon. ;_;

Gustav: Mod hair and gear. I can recreate him, but I'll miss his lovely fluffy hair and fancy outfits.

Anna: Just mod hair with her and my oldest play through with the least amount of mods active. She also had the pre-patch 3 dye looks I will dearly miss. The one plus side is I can recreate her in my sleep since I've made her dozens of times over since EA. But she was the only playthrough I had in Act 3 with a repeatable kiss option.

Tav: Mod head and gear. My other playthrough I won't be able to recreate until BG3 updates slow down or at least stop breaking mods so damn hard.

"Dammon"

Dammit, okay for him... I might break down and install two mods-but only the two! One that unlocks his eyes for character creation and another that lets me turn any of the companions into him. My thirst is strong for Dammon. I need more of him in my game. This is not negotiable.

This is probably gonna be quite incoherent so bear with me lol. I see that your askbox has become a place to rant (and this one isn’t even gonna be about izzy!! But I need to get my thoughts out somewhere!! Sorry in advance!!)

Anyway it’s been a relief to see other people in the fandom whose least favourite episode this season was ep 6. I always felt almost?? Mean for not liking it as much as everyone else seems to?? (and it’s not even that I dislike it!! It’s just my least favourite!) cause I feel like there was just too much going on for a single episode, everything went by too fast.

Anyway this isn’t about that it’s about ep 7 which most people seem to dislike. And I understand where people are coming from when they say that, I didn’t like it very much the first time I saw it! but after rewatching it yesterday for the first time since it aired I actually gained a lot of appreciation for it! I love the start and getting to see Stede and Ed be all domestic together!! (I’m a sucker for that shit) And I actually really love their fight too, just cause it shows us how much Stede understands Ed! He immediately notices that Ed is panicking and he responds so patiently even after being told that Ed thinks their night together was a mistake. Yes they said some hurtful things to each other but somehow I think that’s the least important part of that scene, at least to me. And it annoyed me when people kept painting Stede as the one in the wrong in their fight!! (Imo neither of them were in the wrong but that’s just personal opinion)

Where was I going with this? Basically I feel kinda alone in not liking ep 6 as much as everyone else and I think ep 7 is kinda under appreciated. Ahdgags I hope that made sense I’m terrible at expressing my thoughts towards media.

no i agree, ep6 is definitely one of my least favourite episodes (covered this a bit in my last ask). i didn't HATE it but it seems to do really well in polls about 'which ep is your favourite' and i just. do not vibe with it in the way that a lot of people do

and i agree that ep7 is underrated and i think that's bc it's objectively not a very feelgood episode and even though djenks had confirmed they'd end up together at the end, when it aired i saw loads of people worrying that they wouldn't get a happy ending at the end of s2, which i think has coloured people's perceptions of it

it's not a bad episode. it's a great episode tbh! we get their breakfast in bed (with twine for flourish) and 'hehe we didn't pay' and stede's newfound fame and his earring and zheng being really cool and frenchie and the gang getting their grift on and everybody's new favourite dearly departed side character steak knife (fly high with the angels king)

the argument itself is also really well written and feels so real (which definitely contributes to why so many people felt some kind of way about it) and manages to cover a bunch of irl relationship issues while still feeling right in the context of them being ye olde pirates - it's a beautiful realistic depiction of poor communication between people who love each other but not themselves and it gave me brainworms so i wrote a meta about it

but yeah overall the Main Event in ep7 is stede and ed arguing and ed leaving, so i get why a lot of people dislike it (or at least like it less than the other episodes) given that from ep3 onwards every episode has a big positive edstede moment (mermaid scene in ep3, 'i love everything about you' in ep4, 'you wear fine things well' and their kiss in ep5, being protective of each other and having sex for the first time in ep6, and obvs two beach kisses and 'i love you. i love you' and moving into their inn in ep8) (i nearly cried writing that out if you were wondering whether or not i'm normal about them)

(Spoilers for ToA)

Do you ever think that Apollo saw and was upset by any similarities between Hyacinthus and Jason?

I mean, I’m reaching a little bit, but for how little we know about Hyacinthus, there’s a few things they have in common.

For one thing, Apollo called Hyacinthus “the most handsome of men”. And Jason is constantly being described as really quite good looking by basically every character that ever describes him in the series. Can’t remember for sure but I thought Apollo might have commented on his looks once as well? Think he called him “impressive” or something at least.

Hyacinthus has dark hair and purple eyes, so fair enough not much similarity there. But Jason’s signature colour is purple from the Legion so that’s something. Hyacinthus is described as having bronze skin as well. Might be slipping into fanon but I thought Jason also had tanned bronze skin at some points?

In The Hidden Oracle, Apollo dreams of Hyacinthus and he has a big dent in the side of his head above his left ear where the discus struck him. Jason got that bevel (his wild streak) in his hair from Sciron’s bullet, and everyone seemed to like it so maybe he kept it? Could be wrong but I think that groove was above his left ear too.

Aside from looks. Hyacinthus was said to be very brave, entering a relationship with a god which could be dangerous. He was also a Prince of Sparta who knew how to fight, so he’d probably fought in battles too. Jason was said to be very courageous, sacrificing himself in The Burning Maze to save everybody and all the fights he’d fought before. Plus, some people (in the fandom anyway) draw comparisons between him leading the Legion and being Jupiter’s son as effectively being a prince of sorts.

Hyacinthus is supposed to be very kind as well. Jason was shown to be kind handling Nico and making a point to remember minor gods.

Apollo sings of his love for Hyacinthus in The Hidden Oracle and expresses his regret over his jealousy which ultimately killed Hyacinthus. In The Tyrant’s Tomb, Apollo sings about his regret over Jason’s death and about Jason’s bravery and skill.

Hyacinthus’ father taught him archery and martial arts, which he was supposed to be very good at. Among Jason’s other abilities, he’s supposed to be extremely agile. Annabeth described him as very acrobatic when he flipped over Dakota at Fort Sumter.

Hyacinthus was the son of Clio the Muse of History. He knew loads about history and enjoyed it. Jason was mentioned to love history as well, and he always knew lots of helpful Roman history and myths through the quest. Clio taught Hyacinthus history herself to make sure he didn’t repeat the mistakes of his ancestors. Jason and Reyna learned from previous emperors mistakes and tried to emulate the admirable ones in their own leadership styles.

Both were killed by a god (since Caligula had basically become a god by that point) that was mad at Apollo. Apollo felt incredibly guilty over both their deaths, feeling that they wouldn’t have died if he had done better and acted differently, that they died because they were with him.

Hyacinthus loves Apollo dearly. Apollo thinks of him as one of his two greatest loves. Jason defended Apollo to their father at the end of the HoO quest, something that means a lot to Apollo, because not even Artemis, his twin sister, spoke on his behalf because nobody was ever brave enough to stand up to Zeus. That puts Jason higher on Apollo’s list of recognised siblings and half-siblings, since it’s suggested he’s never really paid a great deal of attention to demigod half-siblings before.

Maybe there’s some other things as well but that’s all I can think of for now. But for two totally unrelated characters that’s a lot in common. Just wonder if Apollo thought about any of that and if it made him sadder when Jason died too.

Oh, and obviously, the fact that both their heads are magnets for flying projectiles.

as someone who used to love writing for bucky, i gave up a while ago. the fandom has changed immensely. initially i received loads of feedback and interaction of people, however, over a span of time, this changed. whereas my blog grew and i got waaay (like a lot) more notes, i received virtually no feedback, let alone interaction. i love the character dearly, but the amount of effort i put into writing these fics does not justify the little feedback i get. i moved on to smaller fandoms now & i feel that i get more feedback there. there are still ppl out there writing fics for bucky, just not as abundantly as during the pandemic i think (which was a huge boost for fanfics imo).

It has changed and you’re not wrong. A lot of people have left for that main reason, I’m now hearing. Apparently, though, it’s nothing new. Some people have just told me that they were getting lack of support since even BEFORE tfatws and that this fandom was always terrible with supporting their writers unless it was two or three very famous ones, which bummed the others out and discouraged them. During the pandemic, a handful of fics were super hyped up while others were completely devalued and ignored. Not shaming major popularity on good fics, but it sucks. Writers want to be seen. It sucks as well because the purpose with my blog was to help those writers who wanted and needed more attention, but I guess a majority have given up. It’s hard as writer to sit for so many hours on a project and get no interaction whatsoever. God forbid a writer literally has to write out the words “leave me a review, not just a kudo or a like” and they’ll get looked down for it. Coming back and looking at writers I used to love, it’s sad to see them gone. Leaving a review or feedback should not be that difficult. It’s easier for a reader to look for something to read and then exit out when they are done. I guess the repercussions of those actions is this.

I was tagged by @larrysballetslippers , @neondiamond and @hellolovers13 to do a little writing check. I've been writing fics since 2014 at least but only this consistently this year and hoping to do the same in the coming year! Anyways here we go

6. Work I’m most proud of (and why): I'm most proud of breathe me in. It's my first fic that has been over 10k, which was huge for me. The idea for that came to me as a very random spark and I was driven to write it bc I felt like it'd be special. And it was. It did really well and so many told me it was a comfort read which is the highest compliment in my eyes. I also think it's a pretty good fic.

7. Work I’m least proud of (and why): hmm. I truly don't have a least proud of, but if I were to rank them, it'd be dip you in honey. I still think it's good, sweet and a little funny. I do wonder though if it got a little repetitive at times, or if I overdid the concept. Still, I do love her dearly.

8. Share or describe a favourite review you received:

This is a comment I got on Breathe me in, breathe me out:

I was having a truly shitty time, slipping into a shit bout of anxiety when I started reading this as a distraction and I'm soo glad I did. Having finished it, I'm feeling soo much better and like I'm starting to come out of it. Thank you soo much for this wonderful comforting fic. Sending you loads of love. xx

Just knowing that something I wrote could be of comfort to someone when they needed it?? The bestest thing I've ever been told. It means so much to me. But also literally every comment on my works make me cry a little.

9. A time when writing was really, really hard:

Honestly? Though I've difficult moments with all my fics, the one I struggled with is my Christmas fic, here where you should be. Only bc I was drowning in work, and unexpectedly found myself with no time to write. Or the energy when I did have time. With an extension though I did manage and it's my longest fic and I'm very proud of her, and proud of me for pulling through.

10. A scene or character you wrote that surprised you:

I can't say any has surprised me yet. But I think the entirety of my pwp, all work and some play, was a little surprising. Bc before that I'd only posted one pwp and it wasn't very good. And suddenly it's a 6k smut. Filthy filthy smut. It kept getting out of hand and I was just shocked that I wrote all of that 😭

11. A favourite excerpt of your writing:

It’s hard to pick, but I like this passage from ‘Curves of your lips’

The prince obliged like a puppet whose strings had been cut, dropping to his knees in one fluid motion. His head was bowed in a reverence that came easy to him- familiar -, a bejewelled crown perched delicately amongst immaculate curls. His hands found their place on his thighs, content, if not for the merest of twitches. With his bowed back, compliant silence, and eyes that lowered respectfully; he was a perfect picture of submission and trust. He deserved to be captured by Michelangelo, right at this moment, but alas, Louis found himself to be possessive of pretty things. And Harry was, by far, his most ethereal and dear possession. Made sweeter only because he allowed himself to be.

12. How did you grow as a writer this year:

Me consistently writing has been the biggest change this year. Before this year, I just occasionally wrote the odd fic here and there. But I’ve posted one fic a month since May this year. I also think I started being able to write longer fics (for me!!), more descriptive, and leaning into my ideas instead of worrying they won’t work. I’ve just said fuck it and written whatever I wanted. I’ve also gotten comfortable with writing smut; 3 very explicit pwps and one currently being written when I’ve never even properly written one before; turns out its really fun. So really, growth all around I think!

13. How do you hope to grow next year:

I’m hoping I write longer fics! Without being afraid it’ll suck. Hoping I’ll grow in my skills, style etc. I’m also hoping I’ll get comfortable with my writing enough to have a beta or two per work; rn I’m not nearly confident enough but I’ll get there! I’m just excited to write more!

14. Who was your greatest positive influence this year as a writer (could be another writer or beta or cheerleader or muse etc etc):

My motivation and positive influence comes first of all from all the other amazing writers in our fandom; y’all are incredible. To all my moots here, on tumblr and anyone who has ever said a single nice thing about any work anywhere: you have done so much for me and me confidence in my work like I can’t explain. A lot of thanks goes out to my best friend for often listening to me whine, my ideas, my snippets. And my friends who read my work: you’re gems! And lastly but not the least, everyone in the @1d-library discord; I’ve loved being a part of the channel and every single person in there is endlessly inspiring to me.

15. Anything from your real life show up in your writing this year:

Oh all the time. Not sure if its a rule that you shouldn’t put yourself into your writing but I will be breaking it if it is. Sometimes it’s accidental; like Harry in Here where you should be feels a little like me. Or my love of candles solely driving Breathe me in, including my favourite scents ending up being used as the scents for my alpha and omega characters. Its everywhere; my favorite songs, movies etc etc as little flowers I press into the pages of my fics.

16. Any wisdom you can share with other writers

Lord idk if I’m qualified enough lmaooo. But really, and its been said tons, but, write what you want. The reason I’ve written so much this year is bc I stopped overthinking it a little and just started writing the ideas I got. Also external validation is totally okay and if you need a little motivation, get a cheerleading beta!! And your work is almost always, like actually most likely always way way way better than whatever you may think of it in moments of spiralling, trust me.

17. Any projects you’re looking forward to starting (or finishing) in the new year:

Yes! Fics for the omega harry fest and top harry fest. Other fests I wanna sign up for. Incredibly excited by my wips, especially the feral alpha au I’ve been debating doing for the 1d a/b/o fest. The service kink fic I plan on doing next! This is the most ideas/wips I’ve had ever so its a LOT but also very very exciting.

15. Which character would benefit from a total rewrite?

Hoo boy that’s a loaded question 🤔 I don’t think there’s anyone that needs a 100% brand new character, but there are the ones like Teruteru and Hifumi that are like. I wish their personalities weren’t like that. And then there are Chihiro and Korekiyo who are good characters but are handled so poorly that I wish those aspects could be overhauled. Then there’s Ouma as an example of someone I love dearly but I think could benefit from having more context/backstory to propel him into even stronger character, even if I know he was left ambiguous on purpose

20. What is my favourite aspect of dr?

This is sooo hard bc a big part of it is the unquantifiable feeling of being neurodivergent and getting that sweet sweet dopamine, but if I had to put it into words I guess I would say I’m obsessed with characters and their relationships and dynamics, and whilst not all of them are well written (see above lol) there are enough that I really enjoy that it makes it impossible not to get attached

DC and Marvel’s Problem: It’s time for the icons to be happily ever after

Hi, friends. Like most North American comic lovers, I grew with Marvel and DC, so I am fan of the big icons like Superman, Batman, Flash, Spider-Man, the X-Men, Fantastic Four, Wonder Woman and more. However, I say this as someone who loves them all dearly and always will... their ages are not only beginning show, but they have gotten old.

And there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s ok for something to be old. A lot of public property like the literary classics and mythologies from around the world are old, but we still love them and always go back to check them out. However, if there is one thing I learned from being a writer myself, at one point, you have to accept when a story has taken its natural course and to say “THE END”. No more sequels, no more issues, no more expanding the lore and only make movies and shows occasionally. In other words, it’s time for some of the supers to hang up their capes and retire for good for their own good. They will always be great, always be worth reading and always be the reason we have the standards is supers that we have, but the reality is that they were also heroes of a specific time that has clearly passed. And that’s ok. Instead of trying to changing them, “bend” them or rewrite them, let’s finish their stories so we remember them as they were and when they were at their best. It’s also an act of respect towards these characters. They gave everything they had to offer, now it’s time for them to take their well earned break.

Moreover, the world of DC and Marvel is already overflowing with supers as it is. It was challenging to maintain their universes as it was, so while I once said in a universe it is not up to me to judge and that I think working on multiple things should not hinder your ability to write well... I’m thinking Marvel and DC are the exceptions because when it comes to projects, they have too many. On top of that, they’re trying to write well for each and every one of its characters, but clearly can’t. It can’t keep producing new issues for the oldies while trying to come up with good new characters or finally give the spotlight to the existing ones that were shelved. Even a giant will become exhausted when it has THIS much on its shoulders. Something has to give. It’s time for load to be lightened.

With that said, now is the perfect time to wrap up the stories of the classic heroes. Give them one last hurrah, but it must be their last and then, move on graciously. That way, Marvel and DC can finally properly create new characters and start giving long overdue attention to its shelved characters who ironically are characters of this progressive and aware time. If fans want to read about Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Spider-Man, X-Men and such, they know where to find the books just like we know where to find Sherlock Holmes, Nancy Drew, The Odyssey, The Wizard of Oz and more.

In short, Marvel and DC have stretched themselves and their old supers way too thin and that is why its films, TV series, and most importantly, its comics have suffered. And don’t forget, it’s not there will never ever be a new TV show or film about Batman, Superman, etc. ever again. Or even another comic series. There will be. Just occasionally which is for the best. When they do appear, it will genuinely feel fun treat rather than exhausting and the quality will be great. It is wayyyyy better than forcing their stories to end through deaths that not only upset the fans, but also never seem to be permanent anyway. Give them dignified endings and let those giants sleep.

Jackass and SiIvaGunner

This is just something I've been thinking about lately, but it may come off as completely random and insane. Really, this thought came to me because my two biggest interests by far are Jackass and SiIvaGunner, but I do think that in a lot of ways, they're similar. Both are completely and utterly ridiculous yet also, paradoxically, are wrapped up in a shit load of sentimentality for me and a lot of fans. They're both under appreciated art, not very well known and even those that do think of them as "lower forms of art", despite the fact that both take as much if not more effort generally than a lot of conventional art as far as I can tell (speaking of course as NOT an artist). They're both hugely, silently influential on culture, they both have musical motifs that represent moments or characters, they both have a lot of tragedy behind them which is paid respect too beautifully within the art itself, they've both influenced an even smaller subculture of fans and people who share the same general comedic values who start their own projects heavily inspired by them, they're both incredibly collaborative and competitive at once, they're both completely in their own league of artistry with those who try to imitate their work but can never quite capture it fully, even if it's good, they both could potentially go on indefinitely with a revolving cast of creatives. I could really go on, once I realized just one similarity, a thousand others came flooding to me. I love both of these franchises so dearly, I really hope both continue to blossom and more people become aware of both.

I am getting better, definitely. I was sick for the better part of a week, and I am still pretty tired, but I am feeling more human again every day.

What kind of books are you reading? I try reading a bunch of books every year, but I am gloriously failing this year, I haven't been able to participate in book club much either. I need to find a balance again... and it is hard to keep off of my phone. What's your favorite book? Any recommendations?

With fall finally feeling like fall, it's ideal reading weather. Burn some candles, have a nice mug of a hot beverage and a blanket over your lap, some atmospheric music in the background.. ugh maybe I should just get to it again as well... I have a huge stack of unread books and manga (did I tell you yet I got the twst manga too? Only the first volume was available yet, the rest is in pre-order for now, but it looks GORGEOUS the art is fantastic!)

As for twst, glorious masquerade is here, and I am anxiously waiting for the Idia card to drop. I have my 200 pulls ready so he is guaranteed, but I hope he doesn't make me go all the way. Fingers crossed.

As for my OC's. I will GLADLY share, but I am SO SORRY I cannot possibly keep this brief... so I added a cut, and please feel free to just.. ignore it if it's too much, I love my OC's loads and am always a little embarrassed to talk about them because I will gush and this is... so so so long. So... here goes, OC ramble under the cut. Even if you don't get through it, wishing you a wonderful reading time and beginning of fall! Hope to hear from you soon! <3

Disclaimer before diving into my OC's (also for other people reading this). All these OC's are female, I am aware NRC is an all boy's school and this makes no sense, but these are my OC's and my alterations to the storyline, and I just go for a mixed school (with more additions, but more on that later). Some of these are more developed than others, but I love them all dearly.

Okay so I have 6 twisted wonderland OC's aside from a Yuusona which is a blatant self-insert/Yuu for in the games. I'll share a visual (the visuals are all made with the Rinmaru fantasy generator + 2 pieces of my own mediocre art) and a little blurb on their Unique magic, personality, 'storyline' (and partner, as most of them are made 'for' a specific character) and other relevant things, if there is such a thing, cause not all of them have that much. There are some very clear and some less clear Disney references in most of them, especially the unique magics. At least I tried.

Dannah Caliiya (Pronounced: Day-nah Kalee-ya)

(with this, debut of my art, lmao)

Dannah is a Gazelle beastman, and a Savanaclaw student. She is happy-go-lucky, carefree, and very athletic. She is of average intelligence, but has massive trouble concentrating, a personification of the worst of my ADHD, if you will. She gets literal zoomies and brain zoomies, which make her a menace to have in class (especially Trein), but a delight to have in sports clubs. She is part of Savanaclaw's spelldrive team, and actually one of their star players. Her magic skills are mediocre, but her stamina is unrivalled, she can outrun nearly all other Savanaclaw members.

Her partner is -of course- Leona, and the idea came off of a romeo and juliet-esque 'forbidden' romance of what would traditionally be considered not-done, in the sense of an absolute commoner and royalty, but with a hidden layer of what could be considered a prey animal and a predator (even though beastmen don't necessarily live by those dynamics). She is, by all means, Leona's 'herbivore' (affectionate).

Her unique magic is Everything the light touches, a spell that makes a bright light appear in a location of her choice. The brightness depends on the power of the spell, and can either light a way (even through magical darkness) or temporarily blind other people.

She expresses affection towards friends, family and romantic partners by gently bonking her forehead into theirs. For Lions, rubbing ones face against someone else is generally a more intimate gesture, which will lead to some awkward misunderstandings in the beginning of the friendship between her and Leona.

Lexi Greydance

Lexi is another Savanaclaw student, and she is also a beastman. It's not very clear from the dress up generator, but she is a Crocodile beastman. She is not a very book-smart kinda gall. Practical magic is her forte, but no one ask her any theoretical stuff, she'll draw a blank and just guess (and guess wrongly 9/10). She's overall pretty charming but has no filter, which makes her come across as blunt or sometimes even rude to those that don't know her. She does mean well. She's pretty athletic, but doesn't necessary act on it. Loves sunbathing cause she's always cold. She is pretty but doesn't put much effort in it, hot mess couture, she has this permanent "just woke up look." Her unique magic is "your head is in the clouds" Clouds appear around a targets head, blinding, deafening and disorienting them for the duration of the spell. Works best on 1-3 human-sized targets, but more is possible, it just gets harder to keep the spell going/or the spell weakens. Training can better this eventually.

She gets paired with Jack, and her role is not necessary one of a student, but more of a house 'mother' by the lack of a better word. She is actually around the age of the students, and is there as an aid to the housewarden, whoever it may be. She divides chores for the students and makes sure they're done, helps organize school- and dorm activities, oversees clubs... She gets along with Leona well enough, and they have a bond of mutual respect. They leave each other alone most of the time.

Mei Meduzo

Meduzo means Jellyfish in esperanto and she is a Jellyfish-mermaid, based on a phantom jellyfish, also known as Stygiomedusa. So I thought the name was a nice mix of origins, translation and an alliteration.

As a mermaid, I think it's quite easy to guess she's part of Octavinelle, and she is also part of the fish mafia (Azul/Floyd/Jade). She is calm, collected and polite. She is very charming and intelligent, but errs on the lazier side for actually using her skills. She is a musician, able to sing and play violin. She works in the Mostro lounge, either behind the bar or playing background music. She also sometimes participates in their more shady business dealings; I'd like to call her Floyd's squeezing buddy. All her earnings go to luxury products, mostly makeup, accessories and clothes. She likes spoiling herself.

(since scientists still don't really know how the Stygiomedusa catches prey with their very drape-like tentacles (there are not many spotted yet), one of the theories is that prey basically gets smothered and suffocated in the drapetacles. So, I Imagine she can help Floyd with squeezing, although she is more elegant about it.)

I have no unique magic for her yet and I am not sure if I will ever get her any. Her partner is Jade. They both have the same brand of customer service smile and politeness, with some darkness lurking under the surface. They are deeply in love, but no one (except for those very close to them) knows about their relationship, just cause they are mostly reserved in public.

Leah Blackwell

A shorter one in between, as a little resting place for you, if you're still reading. We're past the halfway point hahah, I am so sorry. I just go ham when I can ramble about my OC's.

Leah is a concept more than an actual OC. She is a princess, but I don't know of where just yet, and she is at NRC to learn how to be *independent*. She was raised extremely sheltered though, always had servants do stuff for her.

She ends up in Scarabia and is best friends with Kalim, and in turn, a huge pain in the behind for Jamil, who now has to practically babysit TWO spoilt children that HONESTLY don't know any better. She tries out to help but will 10/10 accidentally set the kitchen on fire doing the dishes.

Aestrid Anktha

another one of my silly drawings Drawing context: Jamil has been up since 4am prepping and says that he is 'fine' and 'doesn't need any help'. Aestrid has a dark aesthetic but a soft personality. She loves reading and learning. If you need help acing exams, she's gonna be your key to succes. She will read an entire antology of magic for some light bedtime reading. She is always willing to help others out, maybe even a little bit of a pushover (make that definitely, she is definitely a huge pushover). She'll stay up late to tutor those who ask nicely. You do have to ask nicely. She will take over any and all chores or at least help. BUT if the chore is a punishment, she won't, purely out of principle. She follows school rules, values good grades, but also a proper balance of free time and chores.

Her unique magic is "Itty bitty living space" - shrinking someone to a tiny size, and sealing them in a magical bottle. They don't run out of oxygen nor do they get hungry or thirsty, it's confinement. Not death. Once the bottle is opened or destroyed the person gets back to their regular size.

She is in Scarabia, and she is Jamil's girlfriend. Their relationship is a slow-developing one, because she is extremely shy, and it's easier for her to hang out with Kalim than Jamil, even though she has a massive crush on the latter. And since Jamil is so guarded and rarely shows his true colors, it takes a while for them to get close. They bond over chores though, Aestrid always helping out Jamil when he's doing servant tasks on top of vice housewarden chores and some of the housewarden chores as well.

Melanie Furea

[picture is a temporary placeholder made on picrew, I actually want to draw her]. This is my most recent and most elaborate OC. This one has the most story-info, is the only one not at NRC (so could technically be integrated into the story without making NRC a mixed school), and she is the one I am most proud of (I think Dannah, Aestric and Melanie are my three main babies). The story has some obvious mistakes, plotholes and otherwise still, so please ignore these as I am still finetuning her and figuring out how blot etc works precisely. I know you're not really into twst that much anymore, so idk how much you know of chapter 6, but there are some spoilers in here, just so you know. I will keep most things vague.

Melanie Furea - her friends call her Mel, at least they would, if she had any friends. Her family had been tied to the Shroud family long before they got cursed, already indebted because of a personal matter between ancestors, where a Furea promised servitude from their family to the Shrouds, in exchange for getting their family saved. The exact details are unsure, but the Furea family wouldn't exist if it weren't for the Shrouds. Then, when hundreds of years ago the Shrouds got cursed, and their servants got a hereditary curse placed upon them as well. As the Shrouds are forced to be near sources of blot, burning them incessantly before it starts eating at their own energy, the Fureas keep producing blot, overblotting if the blot doesn't get dealt with, forcing them to stay one the Isle of Woe as well, where there's the necessary precautions, or near a Shroud when they leave the Isle. If there is too much blot produced, it's a quick overblot without even having to use magic, and they will die

Somewhere a few generations back, the bond was no longer one of exact servitude, as neither families truly remember what that is for, but since they do kind of need each other to balance out the curses, they keep working on the isle as assistants/higher ups at Styx. Melanie's parents were the first to try and get away from that all, devising a plan to escape, with a magical item that they acquired that would take away their blot accumulation. It cost them all their money, and they hadn't gotten far before noticing that it was a scam. They died in their escape attempt, leaving little Melanie behind. She was 10 at the time, old enough to realize what was happening. Melanie now works for Styx, mostly as Idia's personal assistant, staying in contact with him, even when he's at NRC. They basically grew up together, the Shroud parents taking pity on her and taking her in after her parent's death. This was also one year after the Ortho-incident, so they were hoping having someone around of his age would make it easier to overcome his grief and get him out of his shell again. It didn't help much, but she is closer to Idia than anyone else (except of course Otho IA). They regularly game together and he can talk normal to her. If anything, he kind of bosses her around sometimes.

She used to dream of leaving the island, fueled by stories told by her parents, but what happened to them was enough of a shock for her to give up said dream. Now she kind of lives a meaningless existence, following Idia's lead in online escapism, having online alter egos that are living out big adventures in safer online environments.

Since there isn't much to do for her besides work and game, and there are very little people for her to socialize with, she is a bit harder to get along with. She is kind of sarcastic and has pretty high walls built around her, and most people who work at Styx need to avoid her anyway because people with low magic can get affected by the constant blot-production.

She has a little bit of a crush on Idia too, but chooses to ignore that and handles her emotions with more sarcasm and a little distance and kicking his ass at rhythm games. Because of her curse, she is planning on not being selfish like her parents and have her bloodline die out. It's not like the Shrouds 'need' them anymore anyway, as long as they return to Styx regularly they can travel around just fine.

which leaves me with an interesting idea for if she and Idia were to ever have kids, if that would break both familial curses??

Her unique magic is blooming love "get off my case" - a defensive spell which makes white flowers appear. They are harmless unless touched and then they paralyze the person who's touched them, effectively being a barrier between her and people trying to close.

Underneath is some more brainrot and ramble i pulled straight from discord, so if it's a little more chaotic that's why. Hercules is one of my favorite movies and Idia is my favorite together with Leona, which is why I put so much effort in this OC. I just simply had way more to play with for Idia, as chapter 6 has so much more lore than chapter 2. No matter how much I love Leona, his story was so far the worst, and I am still a little salty about that.

Okay this will be a dual post because all 14 of my plants can't fit in one tumblr post. Let's take it from the top starting with my succulents/cacti, some of which I've had the longest.

Pearl. Named by a good friend of mine who said that her leaves remind him of large oyster pearls. This little lady has been gnawed on several times in her life by the local squirrels especially during periods without rain, most likely in attempt and false assumption that she's an easy water source. She heals over quickly though and it doesn't bother her at all really. I think she finds it amusing. I find it maddening.

Genus/species: pachyphytum oviferum (sugar almond/moonstone)

Legolas. I think of them as a collective and not a singular since there's so much of them. They are a pain in the ass to repot but they settle wildly yet comfortably each time and show no issues as they grow rapidly. They lose the most leaves yet grow them back almost immediately. The thickest ones of a recent stem that snapped under its own weight I placed down in the pot upright, as you can see. They are rooting well and attempting to grow their own baby stalks.

Genus/species: graptopetalum paraguayense (ghost plant)

Gemi and Niya. Calling either/or either name is fine. Named as a play on words for Gemini since they are twins. The little child offshoots at their base started growing over the course of last into this year and I find it endearing in a way as they feel the most motherly/nurturing of my plants. They flower for me each summer and though the flowers wilt over the course of a few days after they come up, they're beautiful to behold each and every time. Despite their prickly nature, they're actually not too much of a hassle when they need to be repotted, though gloves are a must so that I'm not spending loads of time pulling barbs out of bare flesh. They enjoy when I stroke their barbs downward gently, like petting a cat.

Clover. Named by my same friend who named Pearl. This lady has been through hell and back and has stood the test of time to stay with me and I love her dearly for it. She has the softest spot in my heart out of all my plants. She has suffered one too many a fall, once during a bad thunderstorm, and the second through a knockdown which caused even worse damage than the storm fall, and of which I wasn't told of immediately when it happened and found out hours later. She has had to heal and grow through the shocks from both. After a lot of tears and soothing from me, with a little help from my cousin too, who equally loves plants, we got her back on her feet and to spite her aggressors, she has fought back and thrived. The sun spots from days of too hot sun give her character and I like to rub those spots between my fingers most when going out to talk to her.

Genus/species: crassula ovata (jade plant)

Okuta. Named as a play on words for octa/octopus because he reminds me of a mass of tentacles coming out of the sea floor. {"Wouldn't anemone have worked better?" No! Shut up.} This flashy boy is a massive unit of his main body and a whoooole lot of kids/offshoots. He likes them attached to him though and just keeps allowing them to grow outwards and expand his mass. He is in the largest pot and I do not look forward to carrying him inside come autumn. Every summer he grows this thick ass stalk that flowers into littler pink flora. Once it stops, I cut it off because it looks goofy just flapping around. This photo was taken after I just cut it off him.

Güsto. This little man was named by my cousin. I am eager to see him grow over the years large and in charge. He looks up to Gemi and Niya and they think he is the cutest thing. They inspire each other to grow. His spines are thicker than the girl's but in a way are easier to hold for me to repot him when necessary. He also likes being stroked gently.

Genus/species: Mammillaria spinosissima (spiny pincushion cactus)

Cereza. Named by a friend of mine who loves Bayonetta, as I also do. This lady I'm trying to sort of start fresh with slowly but surely as she was not necessarily dying but she wasn't really showing growth either. These two leaves are the ones that really took to the propagation. I'm waiting for the roots to get longer before I try putting her back into soil once more.

Winny and Pooh. Winny was named by my friends as I bought him alongside Brandi (who you will see in my non succulent post) as a play on wine and brandy. Pooh I just finally gave a name to as yet another play for Winnie the Pooh. Pooh is one of Winny's first kids/offshoots that came originally attached to him. It's been a joy watching him grow from such a tiny little thing. Winny also had another larger kid that I gave to my cousin. Winny is the only plant in my room with me, on my desk, because he doesn't mind my lower lighting and constantly having the fan on. He is also the loudest of my plants, constantly feeling the need to put energy out and talk. We get into it all the time because he hates having the offshoots on him and demands that they be taken off before they even really get a chance to form roots, which I cannot do UNTIL they have roots. I am going to have to remove the one currently growing on him now or he'll never cease his grumbling. He enjoys his leaves stroked between my thumb and forefingers. Pooh does as well.
