Seeing Red
Pair: Wanda Maximoff x Fem!Reader
Summary: After Steve went into the ice, HYDRA took out their frustrations on his doe eyed little sister Y/n Rogers. Now after being experimented on for half her life, she’s back in Steve’s life. She’s a part of the team. A team that included the elusive Wanda Maximoff who just so happened to have saved her life. An accident forced them together, but it seems something deeper, more mysterious, is keeping them together.

1945
Things were never easy for you, you've lived through a literal world war. You lost your boyfriend and then your brother. You had given up at this point. Without your family... what did you really have? Your parents? Dead. Brother? Dead. Your love? Also dead. The only person you had left was Peggy, and she was just as distraught by Steve's death as you were.
Despite this you kept going. You were determined to ensure your brother didn't sacrifice himself for nothing. You had made it your mission to destroy HYDRA. Every fibre of your body burned with pure rage as you saw what they were doing to your home.
You had mixed feelings about Steve's sacrifice. Because yes, he thwarted their plans, and saved millions of lives, but it cost him his life. And it cost you your brother. This was the guy who would light all the candles in your bedroom every time you had a nightmare. He'd tell you that as long as the candle burns, you were safe. He's the guy who nursed you when you were sick. He taught you never to back down from a fight; he is- was the only constant in your life and you miss him terribly.
You lifted your head as you heard the door to your apartment open. You smiled sadly at Peggy. Her eyes were reddened and puffy. It didn't take you long to deduce that she had been crying again.
"I wanted to stop by... to see how you were." She mumbled, her voice slightly hoarse. You sighed, looking at your feet..
"I'm okay." You say, still looking at your feet.
"I wish I could say the same... I really, really do. I miss him so, so much." She sniffles, her eyes becoming glassy. You took a sharp intake of breath, thinking of him always hurt now. You used to think of your brother and be nothing but happy, but now that he's gone, the happy memories hurt because you know you can never experience anymore.
Thinking for a moment, you glanced at the teary woman in front of you, sighing you turned and walked into your bedroom. Pulling a cardboard box out from underneath your bed, you smiled as you saw the black-and-white picture of you and your brother at the carnival. He had face paint on and you had drawn a silly moustache on yourself. Placing the picture in your pocket, you grabbed what you originally intended to and walked back over to Peggy.
"Here, it was his favourite... it... it still smells like him." You whisper, handing her his favourite jumper. You nodded as she held it to her chest, sniffing it slightly. This seemed to make her cry harder.
"Thank you." She whispered as she slipped the jumper on over her uniform. You smiled as she did so. You knew your brother would have married this woman. She was his future, and you understood why. She was a beautiful human inside and out and you felt extreme pride when you refer to her as your friend.
You two sat and talked for hours until there was a noise that had Peggy reaching for her gun. Your anxiety bubbled as you watched her go check it out. You grabbed a knife from the kitchen and gripped it tightly. There was a loud commotion and shots were being fired, the loud bangs echoing through the walls of the apartment. You could smell the burning of... something, as the air suddenly felt warmer. Something was burning. Your worry increased as you heard Peggy groan in pain. The sudden puff of smoke confirmed your suspicions. Your apartment was now burning. "Y/N! RUN!" Peggy yelled as she came rushing into the front room, only to be tackled by a large burley looking man. He pinned her to the ground, and you glared at him.
"Let her go!" You yelled as you rushed over. Before you could get to him, you screamed as the front door was smashed in wood flew everywhere as it splintered off the door. The door crashed to the floor and your eyes widened as more people filed into the room, they were dressed in a uniform, they were soldiers and you then noticed the marks on their uniforms. Your rage soared as the HYDRA men burst into your home. You gripped the knife tightly before going after them. Even though you had no idea how you were going to win against a small army of HYDRA agents, you were determined to win. You punched, kicked, stabbed your way through the agents, but it was no use. One guy punched you so hard in the face, stars clouded your vision and you felt your eyelids become heavy.
The last thing you heard before you faded into the darkness was Peggy's final scream for you. "Y/N!" she yelled as you hit the floor.
HYDRA had got you now. You were theirs. And nothing could be done about it.
Today
The ringing in your ears intensified as you began running through the halls. There was only one thought in mind. "I have to get out." Your feet moved quickly as you rushed down the hall. You were being chased, but you had one advantage your advisories didn’t. During your time in HYDRA, you had been turned into a super solider just like your big brother was before he died.
You saw the wall and something inside you knew that you were only on the second floor. So you braced yourself and launched yourself out of the window. Glass shattered all around you, slicing your skin. Even more so when you landed. You slid across the ground. A cry leaving your lips as you did. You rolled over before you pulled your body up and broke out into a sprint. All you could think about was not getting caught. It didn’t matter about the fact nothing looked familiar, or that your body was begging you to lie on the floor and give up. You didn’t care about the blood that was seeping into your clothes all you cared about was getting away.
You were so caught up in getting away you didn’t pay attention to your surroundings. You slammed straight into a couple. The man’s hands shot out to steady the girl as they looked angrily at you. Until they saw your condition. The noise of the world hit you at once and you kept turning around, your eyes squinted as you looked all around the place. Tall buildings, loud noises. And they’re way too many people. The man came into focus as he gave you a concerned look.
“Can you tell me your name, doll?” He asked, and you squinted at him. Your heart was pounding in your chest so loud you could barely hear anything else. You swallowed.
“Where am I?”
“New York.” He replied softly.
You shook your head defiantly. “No, no, this isn’t New York. I- no!” You grabbed him by the collar. “Where am I!” you demanded as you shoved him backwards before stepping back from him a few steps. His eyes widened as he looked to your left.
“Watch out!” You heard someone new yell. Suddenly, you were encased in a red glow. It’s spirals moving you. Your body instantly warmed, and you strangely felt comfort from this red embrace. But your comfort didn’t last long as a body knocked into you. You both went tumbling to the floor, causing you to groan as you scraped your already bleeding cuts. Despite the pain, you felt insanely warm. You opened your eyes to see a curious and worried green pair staring back. Your heart jumped into your throat as you gazed at her. She was truly beautiful.
You flushed as you realised that she was practically straddling you. Her cheeks turned red as she stared at you. “Wanda!”
That voice.
The girl you now know as Wanda got up and held her hand out for you. You took it. Her touch was warm, and it left soft tingles on your skin and for a second she didn’t let go of your hand. You blushed softly before your eyes widened. “S-Steve?” You whispered softly. His eyes teared up as he rushed over to you.
“Y/n! How? How is this-” you cut him off by throwing your arms around his shoulders hugging him.
“You died! I- I mourned you.” You cried. His tears wet your shirt as he hugged you tightly.
“Peggy… she said HYDRA attacked and took you and she hasn’t seen you since.” He mumbled. You nodded.
“I… I’m like you now.” You mumbled, and he pulled back, cupping your face with his hands as he surveyed you.
“You’re not my little sister anymore… you’ve grown up.” He smiled, kissing your forehead.
“I was so lost without you. When you didn’t come home… when you went into the ice. I thought you died, Stevie.” You mumble, your voice cracking as you started to cry again. He squeezed you and you gasped in pain, causing Wanda to step forward, worry present on her face.
“Steve, she’s bleeding.” Her voice was like silk, so smooth, and yet she sounded so panicked. You glanced up at your brother through heavy eyelids. The exhaustion was catching up quickly, and you struggled to keep your eyes open.
“I… I think I’m going to close my eyes now.” You muttered as the world started to darken. You remember Steve picking you up before your eyes closed fully.
Steve glanced at Wanda, his eyes widening. He scooped her up and held her to his chest. “Let’s get her back to the tower.” He rushed out as he began running.
~/~/~/~
Steve sighed as he watched Bruce work on his little sister, his worry increasing when Bruce pulled out surgical instruments. “Just need to throw a few sutures here, Cap. Nothing too serious. She's lost a lot of blood, so I'm going to have to replace it. I've already started a drip and she should be okay in a couple of hours.” He muttered, focusing on what he was doing. His focus was momentarily taken off you as he heard the door open. He smiled softly when he saw Wanda walk in. She had been feeling antsy ever since she left. She didn’t know what, but something was urging her to come seek you out. The way her heart fluttered when you and her locked eyes confused yet intrigued her. Her eyes widened when she saw Bruce stitching up her side.
Steve have her an exhausted smile as she took a swat next to him. Wanda frowned as she could feel how anxious he was. “You never mentioned you had a sister.” She commented with a snippy edge. He glanced at her, noticing her small smirk. He sighed, a small smile tugging at his lips.
“When I went into the ice, she was seventeen. She’s at least twenty-three now. She should be at least 80. Which means for 80 years she has been in HYDRA’s clutches for decades and I didn’t figure it out.” He whispered sadly. Wanda reached over to squeeze it.
“You couldn’t have known.” She whispered.
“But I should have. I should have known.” He repeated, seeming distraught. Wanda wanted to take his mind off it so she asked about her. It helped distract Steve enough, so he wasn’t constantly hovering over Bruce. It also helped to quench Wanda’s compulsion to ask about you more and more.
“When we were kids, our parents used to take us to this field and there was this tree that Y/n made it her mission to climb for weeks. She tried and then when she did. She fell off,” he chuckled. “She never wanted to get down. My father usually had to climb up and get her.” He smiled at the memory.
“And then our parents died, and we only had each other. And then Bucky. She lost him too. She lost everyone. I’m glad Peggy was there for her once I went under. I always wondered if Y/n had a crush on her.” He joked, causing Wanda to giggle.
Bruce had finished stitching you up. He pulled the gloves off his hands and stood up. “The sedation will wear off soon and I’ve given her some medication to help with the pain.” Bruce smiled.
Steve nodded, his eyes travelling to the door. Bucky walked in, his eyes widening. “Y/n?” He whispered, his voice strained. He looked at Steve and he nodded.
Bucky hugged Steve tightly, laughing in excitement. “I can’t believe it.” He whispered, pulling back.
“Me either.”
An hour later and you began to stir. The pain in your side was bearable, but you could tell it was numbed. “Steve…” you called out, reaching up to rub your eyes. You looked down and saw that the girl who saved you… Wanda was resting her hand on yours. You looked at your hands and then at her before your eyes shot up to see Steve.
“Y/n… how- how are you?”
You smiled. But then your smile dropped. “B-Bucky?” You gasped. He stood up and grinned, walking up to you.
“Hey doll, happy to see me?”
“Is everyone who is supposed to be dead not dead? Is Peggy?”
“No… no she, she died a few years ago.” Steve said sadly. You frowned.
“I’m sorry. Did you at least get some time with her?”
Steve smiled, nodding. “A little.”
That little piece of information made you smile. Peggy had always wished for more time, that was it, and you were glad that they had gotten time together, even if it was only a small amount. Bucky came around and held your free hand. He brought it up to his lips he kissed your hand, and then smiled brightly up at you. "Things haven't been the same without you. I've missed you every day." He sighs, and you cast your eyes over to Wanda. She seemed annoyed. There was a small crinkle in between her brows that gave away her annoyance. You wanted nothing more than to. Make it go away. You pulled your hand from Bucky's grip, a small smile on your face.
"I missed you too, Buck." He frowned.
"What happened to you?" Steve asked, and you sighed.
"Well... since you destroyed HYDRA's plan to blow up the world they were angry with you so they took their frustrations out on me, at first it was purely anger based torture, but then they decided they needed me, so they experimented on me and then once they successfully turned me into an enhanced super solider, they froze me I guess, I don 't really remember much, I woke up a few years ago. It was weird I was the same age, but it was like a million years had passed. The world looks so different now. I- I don't think I'll ever be able to catch up." You explained. They all listened to your story intently. Wanda squeezed your hand as if to remind you that she was still here, or to support you, you didn't know which.
"They tortured you?" Steve asked brokenly.
You looked up at him and shook your head. "I survived, I'm okay."
"You're strong." The girl spoke up. You looked at her and smiled softly. Her eyes captured you as she stared at you. You couldn't find the strength to look away. Her features were soft, her eyes assessing you. There was this connection like there was something about her that pulled you into her orbit. She was truly gorgeous, from her fair skin to her cute button nose. You swallowed. Clearing your throat, you smiled.
"You feeling okay?" She asked, her hand still on yours. Her warmth was comforting.
"I'm as okay as I can be." You say with a smile. She continued to stare until a noise blurted out, causing you to jump. Steve smiled apologetically at you. He then pulled out a small square thing and tapped it. You frowned.
"Yes, Tony. I know. She’s okay.” He said, talking into the tiny magic box.
“I’ll update you on this when she has rested.” He muttered. Shoving the square thing back into his pocket.
A sudden chill wracked through my body and in a second the room had warmed and the chill of the room replaced with a toasty feeling. You glanced at Wanda and saw the red tint in her eyes. You tilted your head slightly, looking at the glow in her irises.
“Your eyes change colour?” You asked.
"A side effect of my power." She said, her hands glowing as she showed me. The red glow is similar to the red shield that encased you earlier, only darker, more vibrant. You looked at her in pure fascination. Your hand came up to touch her glowing hand, but Bucky quickly intercepted grabbing your wrist softly.
"Careful, doll, that energy stings." He said, glancing at Wanda's frown.
"Only when I want them to." She said with a feline smirk. In the split second, she made a decision. A small ball of her power shot out from her finger and slammed into Bucky's hand that was still gripping my wrist. He hissed in pain, ripping his hand away. He started shaking his hand as if it would stop the pain. Wanda giggled as he swore at her.
You grinned at the interaction. Your mind was reeling from today. So much had happened, and there was still so much to learn. You were eager to learn all about this new era, but even more eager to learn about the powerful redhead at your bedside. As if she could read minds, she turned to you and smiled. You smiled back, loving the blissful look on her face. You didn't spare Bucky a second glance as Steve called him over.

If only you had stayed- J.S and B.B
Hi guys! I had a cute little idea and wanted to try to write it. This will only be one part so it’ll be a LONG one. Sorry not sorry.
You met Jake the summer he got into Top Gun. It was a whirlwind romance that ended as quickly as it begun. You didn’t think anything of it until two pink lines appeared and he was suddenly hard to contact. Now, 7 years have gone by and you’re blessed with a little girl that unfortunately reminds you too much of her dad. Somewhere in those seven years, you met Bradley who stepped in to help without a word. Now you’re engaged and happy living your life as a family, until Brad gets a call that relocates you all to where it began.
Warnings: Cussing, pregnancy and childbirth, inaccurate storyline of Peggy and the Hard Deck, some minor sexual content
Tumblr media
It was hot as the summer sun came into the Hard Deck that afternoon as you prepped to serve the new incoming pilots. Penny had informed you that a new group of young and dumb Top Gun students came in today and that it was going to be a full house. You had come in early that day to stock the bar and make sure everything was in working order and clean. You didn’t wanna get caught with your pants down on a night as busy as this.
Throughout the evening, men and women in uniforms piled in and out, shuffling in new faces constantly. Drink after drink, flirt after flirt, you were ready to go home. You were used to this kind of behavior since you began going to college out here, but tonight’s patrons were a different breed. They made you regret wearing your favorite top to your shift today.
One in particular stood out to you though. You didn’t know if it was his cocky ego or the way he actually left you alone when you spoke up. He had sauntered into the bar with that staple Top Gun wannabe smirk. He came up to the bar and leaned on it, smiling at you when you asked him what he wanted to drink. He took a minute as his posture shifted, and as you were about to go serve someone who knew what to order he spoke up.
“I’ll take you if you’re on the menu.”
“Very funny, as if I haven’t heard that one before.” You went to ring the bell for what you swore was the 35th time tonight when he spoke up again.
“I’m sorry, can I just get a Modelo? That went worse than I was expecting.” You paused as your hand came into contact with the rope. You looked him over as you contemplated how to move next. He sighed as you let go and reached into the cooler behind the bar. You cracked the top off as slid it to him as you walked off without another word. You had spared him.
He kept appearing throughout the night saying things like “I know you’re not on the menu.” or “Modelo please?” almost like he was afraid of you. The worst part? You liked it.
Most of these pilots either didn’t care or thought you were stuck up, but this one? He was scared of you and your bell. It was amusing to you. “What’s your name?” You finally asked him when he came up to close his tab.
“Jake, Jake Seresin.”
“Well Seresin, I wish you good luck.” You walked off as you handed him his receipt. Fate was in your favor that day when he decided to flip it over to leave his number to see yours already etched on there with a note.
‘My next day off is Tuesday. Dinner at 5?’
Jake’s felt butterflies in his chest as he read that. He put the number in his phone then took the pen to reply.
‘Deal, I’ll pick you up at 4:30.’
He walked out feeling like a million bucks. He had scored a gorgeous girl that liked him despite his really shitty pickup line.
Tuesday came around and you had been texting about it since the night of his entrance. He did as he said and pulled in your driveway at 4:30 with flowers in hand. You were impressed to say the least.
Your summer consisted of little rendezvous and dinner dates. From beach picnics to mini golf, you guys did it all. But, all those dates didn’t come alone, there were plenty of hookups mixed in there amongst it all. You and Jake were having a summer fling that you had only seen in movies.
You attended his graduation from Top Gun and congratulated him properly when he won the title himself. After that, he disappeared into thin air. No replies, couldn’t find him on any social media. It’s like he never existed.
Your life went on as your final year at college approached in the fall, but you had noticed some changes to yourself. Some weight gain, no period for the month of august, and more. It worried you for a multitude of reasons, so you had Penny get you a test.
Standing in the bathroom at the Hard Deck after close with Penny, anxiously awaiting to see what would happen, you couldn’t stop thinking about Jake. With no contact and a possible child, what were you gonna do?
Penny broke you from your thoughts when she turned the test over and there it was. Two pink lines.
You caught the Seresin parasite.
The next nine months were mostly you and Penny making the most of your situation. She took it way easy on you when it came to work and she actually took you in to live with her and her daughter.
The childbirth wasn’t easy, but you told Penny you wanted her there since your parents hadn’t talked to you in years. She was a great support for you, and you couldn’t have done it without her.
But that was 7 years ago.
Now you lived with your beautiful daughter, Leanna and fiancé, Bradley in Pensacola, Florida. You had met Bradley when Leanna was 3 when he came through Top Gun. You were weary of his kindness and sincerity when he came to the bar after what happened the last time you put yourself out there. Bradley pursued and proved to you he was different. Leanna grew to adore him and Bradley fit in perfectly to your little family. After 4 years together, you had moved from San Diego to Pensacola and gotten engaged. Everything was working in your favor.
Wedding plans were active and ongoing and you had secured a work from home job coding medical records for the sick call on base. Your daughter was beautiful and doing well in school and life seemed to be perfect. The only issue being the constant reminder of the little blonde haired girl you called yours.
Her arrogance and smooth talking when trying to get herself out of trouble only reminded you daily of her dad. The way she grew into her facial features that resembled Jake so closely and the way her eyes lit up when Bradley spoke about flying only saddened you. It shouldn’t have considering the wonderful life you have, but you felt horrible that she has no idea who her father is. You had lied to her all these years and told her that while Bradley isn’t her biological dad, he will be her paternal figure.
You were busy making dinner when Bradley walked in the door on the phone with Leanna in hand from school. It was career day at her school and Bradley quickly jumped at the chance to take a day off work and spend time with her.
“Yes I know sir, but what about my house here? Will they keep this on hold or is this a permanent relocation?”
Your ears perked up. Relocation?
“Really? You should’ve started with that. I understand, we will pack and be on our way. I will send my information for you to book our flights and plan our stay. Thank you for the opportunity sir.”
Bradley hung up as he entered the kitchen, “What was that all about?” You turned from the stove to face him as Leanna ran up to give you her daily after school hug.
“We’re going to San Diego. I’ve been asked to participate in a top secret mission there at Top Gun.”
“Wait- what? We?” You couldn’t go back there, not with the risk of seeing Jake again. You couldn’t afford it.
“We leave in a couple of days so I’m off work so we can pack what we need for while we’re there. The military is giving us a house to stay in for the time being but we’ll have this one to come back to when we’re done.”
“We?” You were still reveling in the fact that Jake might be there. Bradley’s words started to fade out as the panic set in. You couldn’t see him, not now! What if he saw Leanna? What if he wanted you back after seeing his mistake of leaving his daughter behind? What if you wanted him back despite having the perfect father and husband right in front of you?
“Hey? Baby?” Bradley was now right in front of you, hands on your arms and a concerning look on his face.
“Sorry, it’s just been so long since I’ve been out there. What about Leanna? Her schoolwork?”
“I’ve already spoken to her teacher when I got the email this morning about the assignment. They said they will email us all the homework and lesson plans so we can homeschool her while we’re away. It’s gonna be okay love.” Bradley placed a kiss on your forehead before stepping around you and taking over your cooking.
“Mom! Can you help me with a school project? I would ask Brad but he isn’t very crafty.” She giggled as Bradley shouted a ‘hey!’ from behind you.
“Sure, what’s it about?”
You sat at the table helping her put together a poster board on different types of fighter jets and what they’re used for. Her teacher assigned them to give presentations on the careers of the parents they brought in today. You would’ve been hurt she didn’t choose you if you didn’t have such a boring profession. The kids her age in her class are much more interested in pilots than medical coders. How are you supposed to entertain a bunch of 7 and 8 year olds about coding rules and when to use I10 for hypertension and when to not use it when the patient also has kidney failure which makes you need to use a combo code? They would fall asleep right then and there.
Bradley’s job was exciting and dangerous, something kids that age love to hear about and dream about doing. The only downside are these assignments which move your family far away from where you’ve put down roots.
The days leading up to San Diego were long and painful for you. Planning Leanna’s bags and schoolwork along with your own and making sure the house was clean and that were no groceries that were going to spoil had you in over your head. Luckily, Bradley saw the stress and quickly jumped in to help make sure everything was in order.
Before you knew it, you and Bradley were sat right where you met, at the Hard Deck.
“It hasn’t changed a bit has it?” You looked around as Bradley was in a game of pool with a fellow pilot on the mission named Payback. Another pilot, Fanboy, was at the bar getting a round of drinks for everyone.
“No, it feels like just yesterday I was here trying to prove to you just how honest I was. You were so stubborn it made me want to pull my hair out.” You both laughed as a hand rested on your shoulder. Turning around you were met with a woman around your height, in uniform like everyone else.
“You must be the future Mrs. Rooster. I’m Phoenix or Natasha, whatever you feel like calling me.” You we’re honestly relived to not be the only female in this group of testosterone.
“I’m Y/N, and yes! The wedding is in a couple of months. I’m really happy there’s another girl here, it was feeling too egotistical in here for me.” She laughed at you as Fanboy returned with the drinks. You grabbed one of the pool table along with everyone else.
The night was going great as more pilots came in and you put more faces to names. Bob was your favorite so far, he was sweet and different from the other pilots in the room. It was a pissing contest for the rest of them, even Phoenix hopped in a few times. Games of darts and pool kept the boys busy while you sat by Bob, just watching. All of the sudden, they all turned towards the door as two more pilots walked in, hoops and hollers coming from the crowd. You caught Bradley’s eye, but not long enough to sense his warning. You turned your head to the door to see two tall men, one darker skinned wearing a nameplate that read ‘Coyote’ and the other-no.
The other was who you feared would be here. You had to leave before Jake saw you. You apologetically looked at Bradley before dissapearing out the backdoor and joining Penny and Leanna, urging her that you had to go home.
“But mom! Just a little bit longer?” Leanna was pleading with you, earning sympathic looks from Penny. After some more convincing she finally agreed. “I just have to use the bathroom, Aunt Penny, can I use the one in there?”
“Sure honey, I’ll take you in. Just be quick.” Penny took your daughter in and you prayed Penny would stay out of Jake’s eyeline.
—-
Jake was enjoying a game of darts where he was winning against Coyote. He had been throwing jabs at Bradley all night, but bickering was their thing. After throwing the final dart and winning the third round of darts in a row, Jake excused himself.
He headed to the back of the bar to use the restroom and stood waiting for it to open up. He was about to say ‘fuck it’ and pee outside when the women’s door opened to reveal a little girl with eerily similar features to him. She smiled at him and said hello. “Hey. I don’t think you’re allowed in here. Where’s your mom?” He crouched down to her, not seeing an adult follow her out and come running to take her.
Little did he know, Penny was right around the corner talking to a regular, faced away from what was happening. “She’s right outside on the patio.”
“Why don’t I take you to her so you don’t get in trouble huh?”
“Okay!”
“Lead the way little one.” Jake took her hand as they walked through the bar together out to the back patio where she was leading him. As they got closer, he saw the familiar figure of a woman he once loved and the pieces clicked a bit too quickly for him to handle. He paused, making Leanna’s arm pull.
“Hey! Come on!” He was too busy staring at the back of her silhouette to hear Leanna’s complaints.
“Leanna! What are you doing?” Bradley’s voice is what snapped him out of his trance when he came running up to scoop her up in his arms and shoot Jake a look that would kill him if it could.
“Is she yours?” Jake almost seemed sad if it were true.
“Yes, what are you doing with my daughter?”
“Brad? I’m not your daughter! You just adopted me when you decided to marry my mom!” She was laughing at his statement, almost mocking him.
“She was in the back by the bathrooms when I found her. She told me her mom was outside so I was going to take her so she didn’t get hurt.” Jake’s voice was calmer than normal, almost solemn.
“Thank you, but please never do that again Jake. As much as I respect you, I don’t like anyone touching my kid.”
“Brad!”
“Leanna enough!” Her face showed shock, she had never heard Bradley raise his voice, so she buried her face in his neck and started weeping which cause Bradley to regret his temper. “If you excuse me, I have to take her and her mom home. I’ll see you at work tomorrow.”
He burst out the back doors with the crying girl in his arms. Jake watched as he talked to the woman he thought was someone he knew, and his suspicion was confirmed when you turned around and Jake caught a clear view of your face. He felt hurt at your panicked expression from whatever Bradley was telling you.
He had a daughter, and he was foolish enough to let you and her go.
You were dropping Bradley off at work before taking the day to run errands and get the house in order when you spotted Natasha. “Hey! Good to see you again Mrs. Rooster. I’m excited to get this one in the sky- I’m sorry who’s this?” She knelt down to Leanna, who was hand in hand with you.
“This is my daughter Leanna.” Before anymore conversation, Bradley gave you a kiss and ran off to the rest of the group.
“Hey girl, I’m Tasha. I’m a friend of your dad’s.” Leanna waved at her lazily, not quite awake enough this early in the morning. She tugged your hand, signaling she wanted up, so you boosted her onto your back in a piggyback style. She was far too big to hold on your bio anymore, she’s grown so much.
“Sorry, she’s not a morning person.” You laughed a little at the fact she’s now fast asleep on your shoulder.
“It’s alright. She’s got time to become one. Is she Bradley’s? Sorry for asking, I just-“
“She isn’t. I know you’re probably wondering why she doesn’t look like him. She’s from a previous relationship but Bradley is more a father to her than her bio dad. We’re really happy we met him.” You smiled in the distance at him, watching him as he called Natasha over.
“That’s my cue. Good to see you!” She ran off and they all disappeared into the building. You turned around to go back to your car when you almost ran into someone.
You started vomiting apologies when you saw none other than Seresin himself. “Oh-“
“Hey. Long time no see.” Although he was talking to you, his eyes were on your daughter. You had to get out of there.
“Sorry again.” You muttered it and tried to go around him, but he grabbed your arm and turned you back to him.
“Is she mine?” Your eyes widened at the boldness of his question.
“Jake-“
“Please. Is she mine?”
You set Leanna in the car before continuing your conversation. “It’s none of your business Jake.”
“If she’s mine, then it is my business. Please.” He was pleading with you, practically tearing up.
“She is. Can I leave now?” Jake’s eyes were fixated on the car door you put Leanna in.
“I’m sorry.” He looked at you now, and you had forgotten how bright his eyes were. “You’re as beautiful as the day I lost you.” Your breath hitched at his comment. You didn’t know how to respond.
“Jake you were the one that left. I was left alone to raise her until Bradley showed up.”
“You’re engaged?” He looked like he was going to cry.
“Yes, happily. Please leave so I can go home.” Your arms were crossed in front of you, as if a guard.
He stepped closer to you, studying your face as if he’d never see it again. “I want to talk to her.”
“She’s asleep Jake.”
“When she’s not. Please. I want to meet my daughter.”
“No Jake! She is more Bradley’s daughter than yours! You were the one who left! You are no father to-“
Before you knew it, Jake had captured you and put his lips on yours. Your whole body froze, eyes wide opened at the exchange. You had to leave now before anyone saw.
“Seresin!” You pushed him off of you. “What the hell?!”
“I don’t know what happened. I’m sorry.” He walked off into the building as you watched. What were you going to do.
Bradley wasn’t home yet and Leanna was down for a nap. You had a feeling she had caught something since being here with how much she’d been drowsy.
You were starting dinner when someone knocked on your door. You went to answer it thinking Bradley forgot his keys this morning, but it was Jake at the door. You quickly tried to shut the door but he stopped you, forcing himself in the door.
“You have to leave. I will call the cops.”
Although his face was sincere, you were scared of him. “I just want to see her. Please.”
“She’s still asleep Seresin. Go home. Now.”
“What do I have to do to make up for it?”
“For what?” His eyes were red and puffy, you could tell he’d been crying since your last interaction that morning.
“For leaving you. For leaving our daughter. What do I have to do to meet her? She’s beautiful.”
You sighed. You wished this day would never come and yet here you are. Leanna could come down the stairs at any moment, or even worse, Bradley could pull in the driveway. “Jake, you can’t meet her. You missed your chance.”
“What if I want a second chance. To be in her life, to be with you?” Jake’s tears had returned to his eyes now, and your heart broke at the sight.
“You don’t get a second chance.”
“Why not?” His voice was only a whisper. “I can’t change what I did but I will make it up to you. If only you’d let me.”
You looked at him and released a breath. “If only you’d stayed.”
You reached around him to hold the door open, but he shut it once again. “What are you-?” His lips let yours once again, and this time you couldn’t resist. He hands wrapped around your waist and yours foind home at the base of his hairline on his neck. You missed this feeling. While Bradley was amazing in bed, he lacked the longing and passion Jake had always given you. He hand guided you to your couch, where you straddled him as he began reaching under your shirt. He lifted it along with your bra and began making work of your breasts. You leaned your head back at the feeling, relishing in the pleasure. His mouth on one and his finger stimulating the other. You bit your lip to keep noise to a minimum. His mouth came back to yours as you heard a door open upstairs. Leanna was awake.
“Go, now!” Jake looked hurt as you shuffled him out the door before your daughter saw him.
“Y/N please-“
“Go!” You shut the door on him as Leanna appeared on the stairs. You were too close, and engaged! How could you have let this happen?
You were in love with Bradley and being married in less the 4 months.
But the feeling you got with Jake was unmatched. Your heart was ripped in two but you couldn’t risk losing the life you live with Bradley and Leanna.
Not for anyone.
Not even for Jake Seresin.
You had to leave him in San Diego. You had to leave a piece of you with him.
The mission went by just fine without any further interruptions. You had told Bradley about what happened and after some serious discussion and breakdown or two from you, everything had been smoothed out and you agreed to let Jake meet his daughter.
You both invited him over for dinner, and told Leanna about who he was and why he was coming over. She was confused and a bit hurt but she understood. She was even excited to meet her real dad.
When you opened the door for Jake, he came in and gave you a hug after shaking Bradley’s hand.
“Leanna!” You called her in to the living room and you watched as Jake’s eyes lit up at her.
“Hey kid, I’m your dad.”

Where you goin, Star?
Bucky Barnes x Reader
Rich girl/poor biker
Chapter 5
Warnings: swearing, angst, vague oral.
Right after Bucky left town and Y/N was dealing with the after effects the D&C she had to have done due to her miscarriage, Helen Cho gave her Vicodin to help with the pain and cramping. Y/N kept taking it even after she was healed because it gave her a nice buzz and fogged everything up so it wasn't quite so painful. After a while it didn't help as much and Helen refused to give her any more so she found a doctor that would. The new doctor bumped her up to Percocet and after a year to oxycontin. She regularly took 3-5 pills a day.
Brock had caught on to her dependency but she was able to buy his silence. The cost was, unpleasant, but worth the peace the pills gave her.
Y/N spent the night of the funeral at her parents house after arguing with John about making it easier to go through her parents things. Even after he gave her a split lip, she refused to back down.
After he left she drowned her stress in half a bottle of her fathers good scotch and passed out in her old bedroom.
When she woke up, Brock drove her to her favorite cafe for coffee and ordered her favorite drink. After they drove away she opened her coffee and poured in some whiskey from the flask that she always carried. She mixed it in, replaced the lid and took a long drink, letting the warmth flow through her.
Back at the house she started going through her mother's things. Most would be given to local charities but she saved some items that had personal meaning to them. Time passed without her notice until Brock came to check up on her and she sent him to pick up some lunch even though she wasn't really hungry.
Going through the house was worse than she expected, especially on the third day, when she started on her fathers office. a
She found the receipt for a 1 million dollar cashiers check and the contract that Bucky had signed when he accepted the money. She already knew about it but seeing the physical proof that he left her for money, the day after seeing him for the first time in 3 years, was overwhelming. She couldn't breathe and felt like she was underwater. When she finally got herself under control she quickly popped an oxy and a Xanax, washing them down with the last drops in her flask. She pulled a bottle out from her father bar, refilled her flask and took a few good drinks straight from the bottle.
After she let those kick in she started getting angry. Angry at Bucky, at her father, at John and anyone else she could think of. She needed to see her horses, it had been almost a month since she was able to stop by. She stood up a little too quickly and had to grab the desk to steady herself.
"Brock!" She yelled and waited for him to appear.
"Yes ma'am?" He asked when he arrived.
"I want to go see my horses."
Brock grinned lecherously "You know you're supposed to get the ok from Mr Walker before you go."
She smiled sweetly "Please Brock, you know I won't tell him."
He looked her up and down "What's my incentive sweetheart."
Y/N rolled her eyes "The usual. When we get there."
Brock smirked and walked away "Rollins! Let's go."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bucky, Steve, Sam and Peggy woke up late, had a leisurely breakfast and then headed to Tony Starks office to finalize their business. Once everything was signed champagne was poured.
Tony smiled "Never thought I'd be doing business with any of Nick Fury's Howling Commandos but I believe this venture will be very profitable for all involved. I have other matters to take care of but I will see you all for the groundbreaking tomorrow. Feel free to stay and finish the champagne or take it with you if you prefer." He shook their hands and left.
Steve drank his glass down "I don't know if I'll ever get used to how that man lives. Hell I'm still getting used to the idea of a house for me and Peg without you dirtbags around all the time." He smirked at his friends.
Bucky nodded "We weren't exactly enjoying your nightly reminders of how in love you were. A little house of my own sounds perfect."
Sam grinned "Not too little, Star is used to the finer things"
Bucky scowled at him "I don't want to get ahead of myself. I have to get her to talk to me first."
Steve nodded "Yeah she definitely didn't seem happy to see you. Who knows what Walker and her father have put her through the last few years. Quill has been watching her stable for a week and she hasn't been by once."
A short while later, Steve's phone buzzed and he pulled it out of his pocket. "She appears to be on her way to the stable with her bodyguards, Rumlow and Rollins. No sign of Walker."
Bucky nodded "Not ideal but maybe I can get her to listen."
When they pulled up across the street from her place, Quill came up to the car shaking his head. "You don't want to go in there, Barnes."
Bucky glared at him "yeah, I do."
"I'm pretty sure you don't. They're uh, not decent."
"What the fuck are you talking about?" Bucky stormed towards the barn, so angry it took him a minute to notice the sounds. He stoped dead.
"Fuck princess, your mouth is heavenly. John is a lucky man. If I had you in my bed I wouldn't be putting my dick in anyone else. Oh god, yes. Just like that princess. Fuck! I'm gonna cum. Take it slut. Swallow it all down." Brock growled then shouted when he was done.
"Jesus Brock, shut the fuck up. You want someone to hear and tell John? He'll kill us both.
And could you maybe eat some pineapple once in awhile? Too much garlic."
"First of all, your husband doesn't have the balls to kill anyone, that's why he has me. And princess, you should be used to the taste by now."
"It's not like I'm doing it for fun. Now that I've paid for my trip to the stable, could I have some time alone with my horses?
Bucky felt like he was gonna be sick hearing all that but realized he needed to hide before Brock saw him. That confrontation was coming but he needed to talk to Star first so he ducked into an empty stall until Brock passed.
Y/N stood at the door of Lulu's stall talking softly to her when she heard someone coming up behind her "Jesus Brock could I have more than 30 seconds? I'm not blowing you again!"
Bucky felt his heart breaking for her and growing guilt for leaving her to this. "It's not Brock, Star."
She turned around and scoffed "I thought I made myself pretty clear, Barnes. I have nothing to say to you. Run off and find your pet, Dot. Leave me alone."
Bucky just looked at her sadly which angered her more "Barnes! I told you get the fuck out. John will kill us both if he catches us together and while your life is meaningless to me, I'm not quite ready to kick it yet."
"Star, please. I-"
She slapped him. Again. "Have you suffered a blow to the head? Don't call me that."
She started pacing "Why can't you just leave me alone? Haven't you done enough?"
"Please Star, I want to help." Bucky grabbed her and pulled her to him and she fought him
"I don't need or want your help. Let me fucking go. God dammit Barnes. Let me go!!"
He released his grip on her. "Just let me say my piece and I'll leave you alone." He sighed "I'm sorry. I'm so fucking sorry. I don't know what happened while I was gone but I'm sorry you had to go through it. I never meant for any of this to happen"
"Doesn't matter what you meant to happen, you ghosted me and my life went to shit. Told me how much you loved me, then disappeared without a trace, leaving me in my father's clutches."
Bucky looked at her surprised "Without a trace? No, Star I gave-" she slapped him again.
"Don't fucking call me Star and get the Hell off of my property. Now." She pulled a gun out of her purse. Nothing big or fancy but enough to hurt. "I mean it Barnes, leave me alone."
Bucky's eyes grew wide at the sight of her pointing a gun at him but he sighed in resignation and left.
After he was gone Y/N leaned against Lulu and cried into her mane. Lulu rubbed her head against Y/N and made comforting nickers.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Steve was still waiting and saw the look on Bucky's face as he approached the car and sighed. Obviously it didn't go well. Again.
Bucky climbed into the car and grumbled "I don't want to talk about it. It's already beyond fucked and I don't know the whole story."
Sam patted him on the shoulder "It'll help if you get it off your chest. Besides if we're gonna do this we all need to know what we're up against."
Bucky shook his head, the sounds of her with Brock wouldn't go away. He was grateful he hadn't seen anything but he knew it would still haunt him.
"Fine. When I walked in she was blowing Rumlow, I didn't see it but I heard it. She has lost a lot of weight. A lot. I could smell alcohol on her breath. She slapped me twice and when I wouldn't leave she pulled a gun on me." He looked at Sam and spat "Happy?" Then slammed back in the seat with his arms crossed.
Sam shook his head, understanding where Bucky's anger was coming from but knowing that's not what they needed. "Damn, that's pretty bad. You think there's more?"
Bucky nodded "looking in her eyes I could tell. She's taking something. They weren't really red so I don't think it's weed but they were glassy and just a bit off-focus. Coke or maybe pills, I don't know but it ain't sober."
Bucky put his head in his hands and tried to hold the tears back.
"It wasn't supposed to be like this. None of this was in the plan. We were supposed to be back 2 years ago."
He looked at Sam "She said I ghosted her, left without a trace but that's not true I gave Rumlow-" he shook his head "Obviously he didn't give it to her. That bastard got himself a pretty sweet life at her expense." He started breathing heavily, anger morphing into rage
"I'm gonna kill him"
Steve spoke up "Buck, you need to calm down. We need to make a new plan."
Bucky shook his head "Maybe I should just leave her alone. What if I come in to help and make things worse? We just need to get our business going and then I can." He just stopped talking when he saw movement across the street. It was Star and she was headed right for them, she stumbled but caught herself before she fell.
"Steve, Sam, Peggy." She nodded curtly at them "Please don't take this personally but y'all need to get the fuck away from me. I don't wanna talk about it or hear whatever excuses you've concocted. My husband is not above having his men inflict pain on those who cross him. That includes me. I'm not interested in taking another beating because of Barnes.
Just go."
She turned around, taking a second to stabilize herself, and walked back onto her property.
Bucky looked at Steve "Another beating? What the hell?"
Steve shrugged "I don't know Buck, seems like there's quite a bit more to the story. She have anyone close to her that we could talk to?"
Bucky shook his head "her mom was the only one before me and she passed not long after we left. She was close to Peggy but."
The rest of that thought was left hanging in the air as they all considered the situation.
Peggy broke them out of their fog "Let's get back to the hotel and we can brainstorm. After the ceremony tomorrow we'll start working on saving Star."
Bucky shook his head "Even if she needs rescuing, I doubt the so called friends that disappeared on her 3 years ago are the people she's going to trust. She hates me most but there wasn't any love for the rest of you either."
Bucky came to a decision "I need to have a talk with Brock. He should be with her at her fathers house."
After spending the afternoon trying to figure out what to do they ate dinner and settled in for the night.
Except Bucky. He was a man on a mission and Brock Rumlow was about to feel some payback. He bid his friends good night and caught a cab to her parents house.

masterlist
You found yourself making a trip into town once a fortnight to pick up some supplies, as much as you enjoyed your new found solitude, you also really looked forward to catching up with Donna. She had started giving you updates on the other Aylesbury residents, oh little Stevie has broken his leg and Sara loaned Peggy her kitchen-aid and hasn’t gotten it back yet! A lot of it was just small town gossip but you enjoyed your time with her and today was no different.
You had decided to park your car a bit further out from the main strip today and walk across the cozy town, it was peaceful and quiet. The sun warmed your skin as you walked, occasionally someone would call out a greeting from their porch or garden which you cheerfully returned. While you hadn’t met many of your new neighbour’s yet, you were eager to make some new friends - this was your home now after all, it wouldn’t do to alienate yourself. It only took you a few minutes to reach your destination, a smile already forming on your face as you enter the grocer.
“Gooooood morning Donna!”
Donna laughed at your greeting, her eyes twinkling with mirth.
“Well hello to you too! What’s got you in such a good mood?”
“Nothing, really. I just-“ You shrug, the corner of your lips curling into a shy smile, “it’s been a while since I felt good? Like, for years and years it’s just been work and stress and more work and exhaustion but now I have the freedom to just, relax. I feel like myself, if that makes sense?”
Donna’s smile melts into something affectionate and warm, your heart bubbles and you feel overwhelmed and grateful for her easy friendship.
“Thank you, Donna” You quickly say, cutting her off before she has the chance to speak, you glance away for a moment before letting your eyes drift back to hers, “Really. I’m really grateful for you and how nice you’ve been to me. I don’t think I’d feel so comfortable right now if you hadn’t welcomed me the way you have.”
You really didn’t mean to spill your emotions this morning but seeing Donna’s face light up made it worth it. She moves around the counter coming to a rest in front of you placing her hands on your upper arms.
“Well, then-” Her voice is full of warmth and affection as she pulls you in to her, she wraps her arms around you and you melt. Of course her hugs are amazing, you wrap your arms around her and let yourself feel loved for a moment, she moves back but continues to rest her hands on your arms, “I was going to invite you to the town meeting this weekend, we have one each month and it’s more of an excuse to get together than an actual meeting, but it’s decided, you’re coming and have no say!”
“Alright alright! I’m coming” You laugh, “it’ll be a good opportunity to get to know everyone a bit better.”
The weekend rolls around and you find yourself in your kitchen - Donna had given you the instruction to bring a dish to the town meeting and to be there at 2pm sharp. You decided to bake a zucchini slice, a dish simple enough you know it off by heart: 1 cup of self raising flower, 1 cup of oil, 375g of shredded zucchini, 1 onion (diced), 1 cup of cheese and 5 eggs (lightly whisked) - mix the flour, cheese, zucchini and onion thoroughly and then add the eggs and oil, mix well and pour into the baking pan, bake for 30 minutes.
While you were looking forward to meeting everyone officially and getting to know your new neighbour’s better, there was a fluttering of nerves in your stomach. You were never one to really care what others thought of you but these people were going to be your community and friends, you wanted them to like you. You carefully chose your clothes, wanting to look nice but not like you’re trying to impress anyone and you styled your hair.
Taking a deep breath, you pick up your slice and head to your car before you can talk yourself out of going completely. There’s a steady stream of cars and families all heading in the same direction, and for a moment you let yourself panic a little bit at the idea of only really knowing Donna and the names of a few others, and now you see there’s so many more people in the town than you first realised and you’re the outsider and no one is going to welcome you and - okay okay this isn’t helpful at all.
“Okay, if they don’t like you and you become the town pariah then so what? You can just never come down the mountain and become the towns local spooky story”
Talking aloud to yourself calms you and to be completely honest, the idea of the townspeople making up stories about you to scare the children from wandering too far into the forest is a little bit hilarious. Ahh, now - there’s a mad person up there kids! If you wander onto their property then they might eat you for dinner, or maybe they’ll just curse you if you’re lucky!
The next few hours passed in a blur of names and faces and food and stories. You were sure you were going through some sort test because every interaction with someone new felt more like an interrogation than an introduction. Feeling overwhelmed, you step away from the bulk of the group to get some air and just let yourself observe.
You know you’re staring, you know you are but you can’t peel your eyes away from him. There’s just something about him, Alexander, that draws your focus away from everyone else. You let your eyes drag over him, taking in everything you could see. He’s tall, beefy and hairy - the combination makes him look like a mean, weightlifting lumberjack and he should be intimidating but he isn’t. He wore a black and grey checkered button down with denim jeans and a pair of boots, his hair combed neatly and his beard trimmed. You felt a little ashamed of your initial judgement of him, now that you could see the way he interacts with the locals. His face wore nothing but kindness, his movements were soft and gentle, and he moved like he was very aware of how much bigger he was than those around him.
You were still watching him when he glanced over and made eye contact with you, embarrassed you quickly look away and desperately search for Donna, or someone, anyone, to talk to because oh no, oh oh no, he’s walking over now. Up close, he’s even more handsome and intimidating, and you can see the colour of his eyes and, oh no no no no please. He stops a couple of feet away from you and offers a small smile.
“I, um, I realised I never introduced myself to you. I’m Alexander but call me Alex, please”
His voice was deep and smooth, and you almost feel yourself wanting to curl up beside him and listen to him talk about nothing and everything. Your eyes meet his and your lips automatically curl into a smile as you introduce yourself, offering your hand to him. His engulfs yours and your stomach flutters, he’s so warm and smells so good.
“Soo” He starts, “Been enjoying Aylesbury since your move?”
“Oh. Um, yeah! It’s been really good. It’s been taking me a bit to get the garden sorted but I’m loving the work! I’ve got some plans for it actually, I want to get a few vegetable patches in the back and -” You realize after a moment you’re rambling and let yourself trail off, embarrassed again, “Sorry, you probably don’t want to listen to me talk about my garden all day.”
You let out an awkward chuckle and rub the back of your neck, Alex raises his hands towards you before catching himself and lowering them back to his sides.
“No! No! It’s absolutely fine! You seem to really enjoy it, so what other plans do you have?”
So you tell him, all of your ideas for your yard and he takes in every word you say, his entire attention and focus on you which makes your stomach flip even harder. The two of you chatted for the rest of the afternoon, lost in your conversation that had strayed from your garden to food to music to work. You found yourself enjoying his company, even in the moments where the conversation had lulled into a comfortable silence and you were almost upset at having to leave at the end of the gathering but the sun was starting to lower and you weren’t completely comfortable driving up the mountain in the dark yet. You regretfully say goodbye with an open invite for him to come check the progress in your garden, and if that was an excuse to get some more time with Alex, then well, no one needed to know.

Summary: Peggy had known, from the first day, it would be difficult. From the first time she’d walked into the LA office, newly transferred from New York, she’d felt the looks sent her way. But she was used to all of this. Surely she had gone through worse before, with her relationships with Steve and Howard openly speculated upon in New York. She had handled all of that. She could handle this too.
Peggy transfers to the new SSR office in LA to be closer to Daniel but finds the transition more difficult than she expected.

Summary: Working as a barista at Little Spider's wasn't the most glamorous of jobs, but the pay was good for a college student and Bucky's boss was decent enough. It also didn't hurt that Hot Blonde Guy walked into the coffeehouse every Tuesday, and if Bucky put in a little extra something in his cup — a little magical extra something — well, that was just between him and his familiar. It was all going great until Bucky mixed vodka and his grimoire and accidentally baked a love potion into a cupcake and fed it to Hot Blonde Guy.
And if that wasn't bad enough, a blast from the past in the form of his ex-boyfriend/witch hunter is hunting him.
And if that wasn't bad enough, Hot Blonde Guy turned out to be Captain Fucking America.

So recently I started getting into comics, and it made me realize one of the things I was missing in Multiverse of Madness, is the personal connection between Wanda and the people fighting her.
I definitely have some mixed feelings about comic book arcs like Avengers Disassembled, but one thing that is very effective is that it's clear that this is a unique type of devastation that was caused by someone with reality-bending powers and a strong personal connection to the Avengers. This happens because of Wanda, and no one else could have caused this amount and this type of devastation.
And Multiverse of Madness does not give off that vibe to me at all. The conversation between Stephen and Wanda in the orchard (before Wanda is revealed as the villain) does not feel like they are meeting for the first time, but we're not given an indication of when they did meet, and to which extent they know each other. Did they meet before Infinity War? Did they meet at Tony's funeral? Did they ever have any close conversations where they really got to know each other? When Wanda mentions Christine, is that because they've talked about her before, or because Wanda just peeked into Stephen's mind to find his weakness? I can guess the answers to these questions, but I would've rather had the MCU answer them, if they want to tell a story like this.
But alright, let's suppose that there is no time to develop the Wanda/Stephen relationship before making her the villain, because of MCU-timeline reasons or whatever. However, there are other universes in this movie. That is the perfect opportunity to bring in some characters with a connection to Wanda, to still give us at least a glimpse of a connection that makes a fight so brutally intimate. But instead the Illuminati is just a set of cameos for us as the viewers, and there is no connection with Wanda. Except if you'd want to make the paperthin connections that Steve might've told her about Peggy, or that Wanda's main ally in WandaVision was Monica, and now she's going after a variant of her mother. But those are not really connections that feel like something incredibly close about Wanda is being explored.
What if this world had a variant of Quicksilver on the Avengers? What if there was a version of Vision, or the Ultron of this universe looked a lot more like Vision? Something like that would've put Wanda in a much more complicated position. We know that she is incredibly powerful, especially with the Darkhold; but putting someone she loves in her way to America Chavez (and thus her children) would be an incredibly difficult situation that I'd find very compelling.
But as the movie is now, Wanda could pretty easily get traded in for another villain, and it really would not make that much of a difference. And I think that is a real waste of a hero going dark.

Best Friends Till the End - Andy Barclay x (fem) Childhood Friend!Reader Part 1
Tumblr media
Masterlist
Word Count 5 K
Relationships: (platonical) child!Andy Barclay x child!Reader.
Characters: child!Andy Barclay, child!Reader, Chucky/Charles Lee Ray.
Warnings: Rewriting of the first film taking a few detours, a mix of characterizations between Child’s Play 1 Chucky and Curse!Charles Lee Ray. Explaining why the Pierce family was never mentioned before Curse, I imagined Child's Play 1 Chucky thought he killed Sarah and Nica.
Summary: The birthday sleepover of your best friend and neighbor ends up abruptly after his babysitter suffers an accident. Attributing it to a local boogeyman, you try to convince Andy of investigating the matter like a Scooby Doo mystery untill you realize you may have stepped into something worse when his talking doll admits the guilt.
Notes: This is going to be a two parts childhood friends to lovers story. Kinda like in IT, part one is about Andy and the reader facing Chucky as kids and part 2 will follow their reunion as adults.
Tags: @losersclubisms
Karen almost forgot to tell Maggie that you were coming over for a sleepover, only children invited to Andy’s birthday because you were his only friend. Finding out at the last hour that there were actually two children to babysit was not a nice surprise, but you two were frankly adorable. It was pretty easy to notice you were lonely kids watching too much television, craving for playing buddies and being very happy at any chance you had around each other.
The one year and months of difference in your ages didn’t become an obstacle for your bonding, but played out a separation on school time because you were still in kindergarten. Andy didn’t mind that and you would tag along with him on any game.
It was heartwarming and heartbreaking to see you share excitement over the possibility of finding new companions. Andy introduced you to his new toy friend with the purest joy, as if he was truly introducing a third party to your little group for play dates. You confidently activated his catchphrase, remarking that your cousins taught you how because they had two dolls like that one, then proceeded to ramble about your unborn sibling and how you all would be playing together once the baby would be old enough to follow you. The circumstantial babysitter got the impression that Chucky was making you feel a bit jealous, as if you feared Andy could be forgetting you for paying too much attention to him, but she also had some unusual fun observing your exaggerated mannerisms.
At some given moment you were playing in separate areas of the place: Andy and Chucky were constructor workers, a blue helmet of the Good Guy brand on the doll’s head as the kid was teaching him how to use the hammer and blocks of wood. Meanwhile, remaining close to her as she handled the cake leftovers in the kitchen, you were the waiting wife ironing the back of a jacket with a pink toy iron
“ I wonder when my husband will come back home?” You commented to her as if Maggie was another housewife from the fictional neighborhood. “ Andy is never late for dinner, I bet this is on Chucky. Since he is here he barely looks at me.”
She seriously wondered where did you hear that from. Soap operas? Married with Children? The mindless repetition of things you saw being included in your games made you sound like a little child actor, which was definitely a bit lovely.
The boy only pretended that he didn’t hear you, talking to Chucky as if they were at work. Since neither of you really understood what you were saying, he would just look at you and laugh at the mention of his name. Then, he would whisper secretively to the doll and that would make your acting escalate.
“ Maggie… Am I not attractive anymore? He is always going out with his new friend, he doesn't care if I am here.”
Peggy Bundy venting to her neighbor Marcy. Seeing a four to be five girl enacting that shouldn’t be funny, but it was. The part of her that was a bit horrified made Maggie remember it was bedtime, to which she told you both to get ready.
That simple action made Andy come up with an odd complaint.
“ Aunt Maggie, Chucky wants to watch the 9’ o clock news.”
The occurrence amused her.
“ Sure, he does.”
You abandoned the spiteful character, not needing it outside of the game, and sweetly tried to comfort the doll into understanding why he shouldn’t ask that.
“ It is too scary, Chucky. Mommy and daddy were watching the news and they were speaking of this very bad man that sends people to heaven. They don’t know his face, just like the boogeyman, and daddy said that if I am bad he is gonna come to get me.”
The only adult there found your tale disturbing.
“ That is a very bad joke, but I am sure your dad was just kidding.”
“ Don’t worry, (y/n). Chucky is brave and I am a big boy.” Your friend comforted you. “ Tell me when it is scary and I’m going to cover you like this”
He covered your eyes with his hands and you two laughed.
Maggie picked Andy up and turned off the tv. While obediently following them you were supposed to pick up Chucky, but you didn’t rush to do it immediately as the boy would have expected. You didn’t want to do it because the doll said something really rude to you for picking the side of Andy’s aunt. You weren’t sure of what being a little bitch meant, but you didn’t like it.
While waiting your turn to brush your teeth, you were unpacking your sleeping bag in your friend's bedroom when you saw Chucky rush to the living room to turn on the tv. If there was one thing you learned quickly about him, it was that he didn't like when things wouldn't go his way and he didn't mind getting you all in trouble for his mischief.
Maggie found you trying to stop him and that made her think you did it, no matter how many times you told her it was Chucky. Even though Andy backed up your story, she wouldn't believe any of you. She got angry, thinking that you were being bad.
You weren't, Chucky was, but maybe that wouldn't stop the man of the news from coming after you. The room was dark and your sleeping bag wouldn't let you cover all the way to your head, it wouldn't let you hide.
" Andy, Andy!!" You cried out for your friend's help. " Your aunt thinks we were bad... What if he comes to get us??"
He didn't answer, but another voice did.
" I'm going to handle that, just shut the fuck up you annoying little bitch."
That didn't make you calm down, Chucky was making everything worse. He wasn't in the mood to pretend niceness and the fact that he was struggling to get out from Andy's covers didn't help.
The pathetic sobbing was exasperating him, you were terrified.
" You can't, the Lake Man will come because you turned on the tv. "
When you spoke about that before he was too into his own concerns to pay real attention, but then he had nothing else distracting him from the realization.
He threw a happy, but bone chilling cackle that nearly woke Andy up.
" .... Are you scared of the Lakeshore Strangler?" He asked you, trying so hard to fight the satisfaction in his voice. Never before it occurred to him that he could be some child's boogeyman.
" Why don't you tell me what you heard about him?
The news report you saw was from before the cops identified him. The name Charles Lee Ray meant shit to you, but you were scared of him as some faceless evil.
Excellent news: scared children were easier to manipulate. From then he identified you as the weak element of the duo.
" Take the freaking covers away from me if you want to live."
Maybe he got too excited about causing fear in you. For an instant, he forgot that you didn't know he was the Strangler.
" Listen, (y/n). I can't protect you if I am stuck here and that is what my friend Andy wants me to do. Get me out and i am going to keep watch in case the Lake Man shows up."
" What if we are asleep and he gets to you first?"
" Bitch I am immortal!" Chucky bragged, too full of himself. " This body is made of plastic, I don't have lungs. That means i can't be strangled to death, but you can, so GET ME OUT"
The slight elevation on his voice volume, product of the annoyance, finally woke up Andy for real. Hearing you speaking with Chucky got him excited, you were his best friends and he wanted you to get along.
Feeling you pulling the doll out made him stare at you with some happy pride.
" I told you he would look after us. "
The empty spot Chucky left ended up occupied by you. Andy allowed you to jump into his bed and you rushed to hide underneath the covers.
" Don't. " The boy stopped you. " I will not let anything bad come to you, I promise."
He kissed your forehead and you hugged him.
" I love you, Andy. You are my best friend in the whole world."
" I love you too... and I bet Chucky loves you. Don't you, Chucky?"
" Sure, kiddo.Whatever you say, just go back to sleep. "
A nice detective took you back to your apartment that night because something horrible happened to Maggie while you were asleep. You told him that it had to be the Lake Man, but he didn't believe you. Your mom explained to him what you were talking about and he said that was impossible because he took him down. You didn't believe that, boogeymans can't be killed.
Hugging your mom and talking to your sister in her belly, you repeated the same promise Andy did to you. The detective playfully asked you, as many adults before did, how you were so sure she was going to be a girl. You just did, it didn't matter how many times your dad claimed the baby was going to be a boy because he wanted so. No one would convince you otherwise.
Picking up your Scooby Doo plushie as your protector for the rest of the night helped you start imagining the situation as an episode of your favorite show and that made you feel a bit better. That man didn't believe you because cops never do at first. Every time the gang stumbles with a mystery they do things on their own, being told that they are just kids.
At that moment you were just like Shaggy: very scared and hugging Scooby because you weren't feeling brave enough to face the monster. Andy, your brave friend, was like Fred. He would be coming up with a plan to catch the bad guy. There had to be a masked man, maybe someone wanted to scare you all into leaving the building because they wanted to buy it and they invented the Lake Man. Maybe all the persons that were thought gone would reappear somewhere, even Aunt Maggie.
' And I would have gotten away with it too, if it wasn't for you meddling kids and your toys. ' The villain would say after you would unmask him while revisiting his spooky plan. The toys were the dogs: you had Scooby and Chucky was like Scrappy Doo because he was tiny, feisty and disobedient.
Maybe a bit scary too, he said a lot of bad words. No other Good Guy you saw before spoke like him. You wanted to like Chucky, but he scared you. There was something in his voice that made you feel wrong, hearing him in the dark made you want to cry. Andy was older than you, maybe that was why he didn't got scared as easily as you. That was why you felt you couldn't tell him, you feared he would think you were too little to play with him. Chucky frightened you, but thinking that Andy could want to stop being friends with you because you didn't like him scared you more.
The next time you saw them was at your apartment and then you were ready. Scooby and your Mystery Machine car toy were placed in front of the tv and you were going to watch the old episodes your mom recorded for you.
She didn't notice anything strange, just the two of you whispering things to each other while watching. Chucky laughed weird again once, but she couldn't hear because she was bussy doing something else.
From all the funny things happening in all the episodes you watched, the Chant of Manba Wanga was the only thing Chucky seemed to have found funny. It wasn't, not for you at least, because it was clearly meant to be a scary moment. His creepy laugh made you jump towards Andy, grabbing his arm tightly as if you were begging for protection. You were as scared as Shaggy and Scooby were when Mamba Wanga was casting his voodoo curse on Layla and your fear only encouraged Chucky's bad behavior. He was having fun scaring you, probably thought Andy would find it funny.
By the end of the episode, when all the persons touched by the curse and assumed disappeared were found, you spoke to your friend about your own mystery. You told him that maybe the Lake Man was like Mamba Wanga, the Green Ghost or the Black Knight, that all you had to do was solve the mystery.
" We have to find the masked man, that will make Maggie come back. "
Chucky looked at the boy, waiting for him to crush your hope.
" (y/n), there is no mystery. it wasn't the Lake Man, Chucky did it. "
You didn't know what to think anymore.
" My bad, the bitch is gone. " The doll admitted to you without hesitation. " You know, I noticed your dad is a real asshole, since he came back from work all he does is bitching because you are watching cartoons. He was the one who scared you with that thing on the news, right? But he doesn't listen to you and I don't think he really cares. I bet your dumb mom thinks that baby is going to save the marriage, but that dude doesn't feel shit for her. "
He shouldn't have said that to you, but he couldn't help himself. Chucky got to know your family and found out you were like a dysfunctional photocopy of the Pierces. Cute talky little girl, pregnant mom: the main flaw on the picture was your daddy. It was very easy to see that he was an emotionally distant husband who wouldn't win the father of the year award anyways. Everything Sarah's husband did right, your papa seemed to do wrong. He was more a manchild than a family man, someone who you weren't seeking for support or protection.
" ... Wouldn't it be nice if he would be gone too?"
Dead father jokes were upsetting for Andy too, so he had to stop. Yet, deep down, he wanted you to say yes just to deviate from his path a little and kill that man off. Two deaths in the same building would have dragged too much attention, the only thing that saved your father was Chucky's own convenience. He couldn't indulge in killing him, not if that would be an obstacle for his personal revenge on the people who screwed him over in life.
You both were seeking explanations on his part, starting to get suspicious about him.
"Chucky, why did you kill Aunt Maggie?" Andy straightfoldy confronted him once you were all in the safety of your room.
" I told you: she was a real bitch and got what she deserved."
That didn't seem to be enough for you.
"Or maybe you are just bad." You exclaimed, still hurt because you heard him say he wanted to kill your dad.
It wasn't the time and place to get into mentoring, but Chucky saw himself forced to explain his attitude somehow. Otherwise, he would have been done manipulating you.
" Sometimes violence can be really fun."
Two clueless little children stared at him like he just said the weirdest thing they ever heard. "
" I don't understand."
" It's like in cartoons, like Tom and Jerry. Isn't it fun to see the cat getting hurt chazing the mouse?
You nodded in agreement and he seemed pleased with that.
" It's funny cause Jerry is tiny and he always wins."
" ... But Tom wants to eat Jerry. " Andy replicated. " What did Aunt Maggie do to you?
"Being a pain in my ass."
" If she was annoying you, you could have called Andy's mom. Or get the big dog, the muscled Bulldog. Do you have one of those, Chucky?"
Mindless talking with little kids was the most exasperating thing ever, neither of you were able to deliver one goddamn sensical reply.
" No, but I have voodoo doll friends."
Your eyes opened wide in amazement. The intrigue made him feel flattered once more.
Dumb innocent children completely unaware of how he would have to make them witness a real voodoo ritual very soon.
When Chucky got the bad news about his doll body and assumed immortality you were the first thought element of his plan. The second kid he revealed himself to, also not his preferred choice for a new body, but he knew your fear could be useful to him. Either as a collaborator or a good bait, getting you on board was the easiest way to Andy. The little boy was protective over you, the even more little girl he befriended: he would cooperate thinking he would be saving you that way.
He knew you were not going to put any resistance against him and Karen made that part even easier. While asking you about everything you knew of him in her desperate search for information, she accidentally revealed to you ahead that he was the Lakeshore Strangler.  It made him feel a bit disappointed because he was stripped from the pleasure of coming out to you as your great fear by himself.
Andy was the big boy: he was the brave, the strong, the smart. In the course of those moments you were thinking of him as your hero. He WAS your hero, without him you were just like Shaggy hiding behind furniture to avoid the monster without noticing that his long trembling legs would tell his position. It was funny in the cartoons, not in real life. You loved Shaggy, he was your favorite in the gang, but you wished you could be brave for once. The doctors took Andy away and you were alone, you had to be brave for him.
Mommy had to go out for some grocery shopping and you begged her not to leave, but she said you would be causing more mess outside than inside. Surely it was because of that time you got lost in a Wallmart after you left her side searching for the toys section, or the fact that you were used to asking for things that would catch your attention. It wouldn't be the first time you would stay at home watching tv, that's why she didn't see the problem.
You promised you would be good, you wouldn't leave her side or ask for anything, but you needed to go with her. In a hopeless attempt to make her understand, you screamed that Chucky was going to kill you. It didn't work and you stayed alone, a bad feeling telling you that he was going to come for you soon.
Pacing around the place to check on every exit, you were singing to yourself the ' Scooby Doo! Where Are You?' song to feel less lonely.
" If we can count on you, Scooby Doo. I know we'll catch that villain. "
Pathetic child, he thought while hearing you as he was sneaking in. Your shaky voice was music for his ears, he could feel you were about to cry.
" Scooby Dooby Doo, where are you? We got some work to do now." Your song began again. " Scooby Dooby Doo, where are you? We need some help from you now. "
A very noisy cackle took away any hope.
" That dog ain't gonna help you, kid."
You froze and tears began to fall.
" No one is going to help you, all you have is helping me find Andy. "
The magic of friendship, like in My Little Pony, gave you a bit of strength to talk back.
" NEVER! You want to hurt him, you never wanted to be his friend. HE IS MY FRIEND!!!"
Even to pretend you weren't scared you were overdramatic, Chucky was very fed up with you.
" LISTEN TO ME, LITTLE PIECE OF SHIT!" He yelled at you, threatening you with his knife. " Offering to kill your dad was me being nice... DO YOU WANT TO SEE WHAT I CAN DO WHEN ANGRY?"
There was no reply, so he held you at knifepoint while keeping his threatening ramble.
" If you don't do exactly as I say, there will be no more Mr Good Guy. You are going to go last, first I'm going to make you watch as I kill your mom. "
Sliding the weapon slowly, he enacted the threat pointing it against your tummy.
Your sister.
" Ríght here, (y/n). I'm gonna stab again and again and again until there will be nothing left. It wouldn't be the first time i do it."
Vengeful memories were coming back to him. Since he didn't have to hide anymore, there was no point in not enjoying the moment.
"I'm gonna tell you a story: once upon a time, a cunt thought she could fuck with me and that's how she and the little parasite growing inside her ended. That's how fucked up shit can get if i am angry. Is that what you want, Barbie? "
You nodded negatively in visible panic as your hopeless sobbing became more intense.
The name slipped out of his mouth before he could control his phrasing, you were just like her. Perhaps that was why he loved your fear: it flattered him even more through the memories attached to the comparison. Losing time was worthy in order to have you as his traumatized unwilling hostage. Not only was it convenient for his plan to get Andy's body, part of him enjoyed projecting about the Pierce that got away through you.
Despite being severely terrified, your childish mind was still able to come up with coping mechanisms. You almost ruin his mood because at some point of the way you had a cute dumb grin and he heard you giggling, as if a warm thought would be making you ignore the stress.
The monster was kidnapping you to get to your friend, just like it regularly happened to Daphne on Scooby Doo.
You were like Daphne, even if you were as scared as Shaggy.
Smart as Velma and brave as Fred, Andy didn't fall for Chucky's tricks so easily. You escaped from  the doll together, getting away from the place where your friend was locked. The chaze wasn't funny like in the cartoons, but you felt so much better because  he was alright and he was with you.
You would follow him anywhere, but you didn't want to go back to your apartment building knowing Chucky would go there after you. Andy was insisting on going back to his home, reminding you to hurry up, but you weren't convinced of the plan.
The fear of what could happen to your mom and your unborn sister paralized you. Hiding in an alley and forcing him to do so, you refused to give one single step more.
" Chucky will get them. " You tried to explain to him between sobs. "... My sister, he said..."
Andy cut you off while trapping you in a comforting hug.
" It doesn't matter, I will not let him do it... but you have to help me. "
He sounded like a hero to you, so brave and you were so scared.
" I can't, Andy. I will make it worse. I am not brave like you, he knows it."
You made him smile: did you really think he was brave? He was scared too, he cried in fear just like you did but you didn't see him. If he wasn't crying then, that was because he wasn't alone in that dark room anymore and you were with him.
" What if we make you brave?"
Andy showed you some smashed cookies he had in his pocket, a secret gift from one of the nurses at the hospital.
" Scooby Snacks make Shaggy and Scooby brave. "
You smiled at his offering, then opened your mouth to let him feed you the scrumbles of cookies as if he was feeding you with courage.
" Scooby Dooby Doo!!" You cheered to later kiss his cheek while your lips were still stained by scrumbles.
The innocent trick worked and you were feeling so much better, but it wasn't just because of some special power on the cookies.
It was the support of your friend that made you feel strong enough to keep up.
" I love you, (y/n). You are my true best friend."
Preparing on his home got you following Andy's lead as if it would be one of Fred's plans. Once you secured the entrances you both hid in his closet to wait. He searched through his toys looking for weapons and when you saw him picking up a baseball bat you figured out he wasn't going to stay still for long.
" Don't go, stay!!!! Don't let him find you!!"
His following action was one of the purest acts of love you experienced over the course of your life. It settled a mark of an impact then impossible to imaginate.
" Wait here. I'll keep you safe, I promised you."
Andy closed the door behind him, leaving the hiding spot to do his stand against Chucky. You hesitated, doubtful of disobeying his command, but you got out after him as soon as you heard noises making you guess he was in danger.
Too late, he was laying on the floor.
" ANDY WAKE UP!!!" You yelled and rushed to shake him. " WAKE UP, PLEASE. WAKE UP!!!!"
Chucky was there and he could have killed you easily, but you didn't care.
" STEP ASIDE, DUMB BITCH!! HE IS MINE!!!!"
Right before pulling you away he got to witness your last desperate attempt to save Andy.
A kiss, a children's interpretation of how one should be. You barely posed your lips against your friend's hoping he would wake up like Snow White or the Sleeping Beauty.
" DO YOU REALLY THOUGHT THAT WOULD WORK???" The doll mocked you. " I do the magic here ... AND THIS AIN'T A FUCKING FAIRYTALE!!!!"
Chucky laid one hand on top of Andy's forehead, then he began to recite some really odd words. It sounded to you like the Chant of Mamba Wanga, only more complicated. Was he going to curse Andy? Did he want to make him disappear like in the Scooby Doo episode?
The gestures made you fear something even worse, but you didn't get enough time to react. Mrs Barclay and the nice detective came to your rescue. It was the beginning of a hard fight worthy of nightmares, but your friend woke up being still him. Andy burned Chucky alive, but not even that seemed to stop him. Only after the cop shot in the heart did he stay still, but that didn't mean you both got any peace. Neither Andy or you got convinced that Chucky could be completely gone.
That was the reasoning behind the hardest choice of your life, that you were forced to take as little kids. Even with the support of three adults who saw him, no one believed Chucky was alive and he killed all those people. If you would have followed Andy's story, they would have taken you away and there would have been no one to look after your unborn sibling. If he would ever come back, nothing would have stopped Chucky from getting to fulfill the promise he made to you.
You lied, but the boy wasn't mad at you because he knew why you did it. You two understood each other better than anyone, he saw it in your eyes with just one look.
Andy told the truth because someone had to, but that couldn't be you. He sacrificed himself for you one last time, letting his life be ruined so you could keep yours because you had to protect your sister.
She was born on that January, the nerves of your mom caused an early birth. A girl, just like you predicted.
At least he got to meet her before the doctors took his mom and he was taken away.
" I will tell her about you. Even if dad doesn't want me to, I will." You promised him, tears falling from your eyes because you knew what was coming.
You sneaked a little goodbye gift. It was a friendship bracelet that you were making for his birthday but didn't get to finish on time back then.
Andy began to cry, hugging you as if he refused to accept reality as much as you did.
" I don't want to leave! "
" I'm so sorry. I didn't want to... I don't want to lose you."
" You are my best friend." It was his way of saying that he forgave you. " You will always be. "
" You will always be with me." Was your equal reply. " I will never forget you, Andy. "
You never did, that painful separation left a hole in your heart that never healed. Even if he left forgiving you, it was you who was never able to forgive yourself. You cried in his absence, you called him in dreams. From your fifth birthday and for years to come during your childhood, you reserved one of your three wishes to ask for him to be happy.
Even after losing hope of seeing him again, all you wanted was for him to be happy somewhere else.

2023 Book Reviews: Historical Romance, Part 1
1. Never Judge a Lady by Her Cover by Sarah MacLean: 4/5
Pitch: 4th & final book in a historical romance series; woman who is a noblewoman by day and by night she's the founder of a gambling hell falls in love with a newspaperman
Review: This was a fun, fast-paced romance. For whatever reason, I tend not to remember this series of MacLean's very well, and I expect this one to follow the same trend - I doubt I'll remember what happened in this one in a while. A good time, but there's definitely a spark missing.
2. Tommy Cabot Was Here by Cat Sebastian: 4.25/5
Pitch: mlm 1950s romance between a scion of a politically powerful family and his childhood best friend
Review: Very cute - I really liked Everett and Tommy! But as always it's the rare novella that I can love as much as I love a novel, so while it's cute I doubt it'll stick with me a long time.
3. Peter Cabot Gets Lost by Cat Sebastian: 4.5/5
Pitch: 2nd book; mlm 1950s romance between a scion of a politically powerful family and his rival from school on a road trip together
Review: I started out not as into Peter and Caleb, but over time they grew on me, just as they grew on each other! A fun road trip book, and I quite liked the resolution.
4. Something Fabulous by Alexis Hall: 3/5
Pitch: mlm Regency romance between a duke and a the brother of the woman he's supposed to marry
Review: I liked a lot about this book - in particular, Valentine, but also Peggy, the ridiculous adventures, Valentine's mom, the lesbians they run into, the humor, etc. What I really didn't like was Arabella, and that ended up spilling over into Bonny over time. I'm not sure if the prologue from her POV is supposed to make you like her, because for me it really didn't. Unless I missed it, there was never any reason that Arabella couldn't have just said no, I refuse to marry you. It never describes her uncle and aunt forcing her into the marriage, and she doesn't seem to have any sense of duty for the estate, its people, or her family, so it's not like the money was forcing her into it either. So instead of being reasonable and rejecting his suit, she decided to go on the run like the romantic heroine she dreamt of being. It made me really, really dislike her, and then all of the subsequent escapades just cemented that. And Bonny just let her do it - I get why he's on her side in theory, but in practice it just meant that he was enabling her and allowing her to behave pretty abominably. And then he puts a lot of pressure on Valentine. It's very reasonable for him to draw the line that he won't be with someone who he can't be with completely, but I really don't like that it feels like Valentine was the one making every compromise. So ultimately I have kind of mixed feelings about the romance and the book, but your mileage may vary!
5. Earth Bound by Emma Barry & Genevieve Turner: 4.75/5
Pitch: 1950s historical romance between a woman computer for NASA and the man in charge of making sure the astronaut program is a success
Review: I really enjoyed this - excellent historical romance, I'll definitely be picking up the other books in the series! The romance was great, and I really loved the historical background.

NEW MUSIC: Carmen Caska ~ To Be Plugged
Tumblr media
NOTE: I originally posted this to AOTY, but thought I'd drop here as well
I have been really excited for this project, ever since it was first mentioned all the way back in 2019/2020.
Over the last few years, it has been relatively quiet on Caska’s front regarding their musical output; a couple demos here and there but otherwise not so much.
In 2020 there was “WHACK” - a more classically hip-hop styled track complete with chipmunk vocals and a real sense of Spaß (to appropriate a Brechtian term) in both Caska’s vocal delivery and lyrics as we learn about the artist’s personal convictions and how they navigate through the world.
In 2021 there was “220 - 2” an interesting listen that with hindsight, due to its pitch shifting and glitchy, yet serene drops, could be viewed as a forecast for the musical direction Caska was headed.
These aside, the last substantial offering Caska was the 2019 mixtape, “ARI”- a project that saw the artist take a dramatic leap forward from their early days of Acoustic-y Lofi Hip-hop (under the alias Toph, or Topshiba) into a world of more industrial/Alternative hip-hop. On “To Be Plugged” however, we see Caska take yet another step - this time incorporating flavours of hyper-pop and electronic music into the mix, yielding a more ambitious, confident and engaging listen.
Over this span we’ve also seen several artist name changes for this project, starting with Ari Mori, moving to Aari Mori finally arriving at Carmen Caska - a fact that is useful to note as they are the literal stages of Caska's devopment.
Context aside, the review begins below
The album opens with “through me” an electronic, shoegaze-y number that sets the sonic stage for what we are about to listen to. Lyrically, Caska establishes a recurring theme of snow - something that is referred to again later on the project. As a listener, you very much “descend” into the world of this project during it’s runtime and it definitely feels so beginning with this track.
“You will drop everything” is an uptempo track that could have fit in on “Ari” - not that this is a bad thing. Instrumentally, this song feels like you’re travelling in a race car, with bending synths, glitchy drums, and a roaring bass.
“Lil Hoe” - is an alternate version of what was the lead single titled “Gutted” released with an accompanying mv in 2020. Due to this song, or at least the idea for it being in the ether for so long relative to the rest of the tracks, I feel most attached to this one. Though I miss the clearer original’s lyrics, in particular section in the original with the lyrics “Made into an addict but I loved her” I appreciate this track for what it is, which at the end of the day is still a hyper-pop banger.
“Have Mercy” is probably one of my favourite songs off this album, there is a fantastic sense of progression throughout its run, the “This is like this many rings” part just goes HARD and I also love the line “all the angels have fallen”
“Last Dance” is an apocalypse party anthem, with fluttering/growling arpeggios - which echo Portishead’s “the rip”
On “Heart Ate Whole” Caska flexes their fantastic production talents - its just a marvel to listen to.
“Tear” is a powerful, yet serene stroll down memory lane, as Caska manages to express the feeling of growing up - I have already written a review for this so I won’t go on much longer- but I wanted to note that it is my thinking that the reference to snow on this record could be a symbol of purity, or innocence, which becomes more powerful considering its use on this particular song
“Kill Me now” - feels Jpegmafia influenced in the best way, especially with the gang vocal chops - there’s a great sense of balance between braggadocio and vulnerability, which reminds me specifically of Peggy’s song “Kenan vs Kel”.
“Valhalla” is another banger - nuff said.
The project ends on “East River”, which I think is one of Caska’s best penned songs. I LOVED the passage “What did he think about?/In those very last breaths before the air ran out/Was it someone/Who gave meaning to every bubble/Who made his heart more than a muscle”. Instrumentally, I liked the distorted guitars and the way the whole composition builds is immaculate. - A truly epic closer.
All in all, I believe that this project is very well conceptualised/executed. Fantastic production, Unique vocals, some decent to brilliant lyrics as well. Would highly recommend. My only critique is that the lyrics are still buried in the mix, of course this is in no small part a stylistic choice, however I still feel that it obfuscates what could otherwise make for a more engaging listen.
This also happened to release on my birthday, so thank you for the amazing gift and keep up the great work, Caska!

I got tagged by @booksandabeer to share 8 shows to get to know me. I've been thoroughly overthinking it for the past few days, which is why this list sounds a bit like a series-watching-history resume. And I still feel like I'm forgetting some very important ones.
Anyway, thanks for the tag, J! Hope you enjoy 😅
I'll pass the tag to @tree-of-blue-squirrel @somanywords @hedvig-ulrika @tripfourconcerts and @myauroraborealis, if you guys want to do this 🥰
Tumblr media
Avatar the Last Airbender
I'll start way way back in my childhood. I had this girl in my class in primary school who was obsessed with this show (to the point where it got kinda scary) but that's how I ended up watching it for the first time. And I just fell in love with the worldbuilding amd the characters with their found family.
Honourable mentions of shows I liked as a kid:
Suite Life, Drake & Josh, Glee
Tumblr media
BBC Sherlock
Flash forward a couple of years, and here's me, in my late teens. And with that came my first queerbait experience! Hurray! But. If not for that, if not for the overanalysing of the queer subtext and the unbelievable disappointmemt in how it all turned out, I don't think I would have ended up as an english major. Which I have mixed feelings about, yes, but I feel like that represents my relationship with this show pretty well.
Honourable mentions of shows I watched in my late teens:
Shadowhunters, Doctor Who, Outlander
Tumblr media
Supernatural
*clears throat* I know. I know. But I can't not include it, okay? It's been... let's call it a formative experience. My first real deep dive into fandom culture. How I first made fandom friends all over the world, who I love and treasure with all my heart now. I hate it as much as we all do, but yeah. *clenches fist and grits teeth* Supernatural had an impact on me.
Honourable mentions of my early fandom days shows:
Game of Thrones, Sex Education, Troy - Fall of a City
Tumblr media
The Umbrella Academy
This one is a prime example of a type of show that I really like: the ones where, at times, I could not care less about the plot and am just here to thoroughly enjoy the characters.
Honourable mentions of shows I watch only for the characters:
Brooklyn 99, Stranger Things, Young Royals
Tumblr media
Agent Carter
So. It's no secret that I am a firm, pious defender of all things Peggy Carter. This puts me in a somewhat awkward, sometimes even controversial position since I am also firmly, piously in the steve/bucky corner. But like. I love her? And since she (and like, the Captain America movies as a whole) were my way into the MCU... well, where would I be without her?
Honourable mentions of MCU shows I like:
Daredevil, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Hawkeye
Tumblr media
Good Omens
This one is really simple: it's silly and I'm so here for it. The humour, the characters, the absurdity of it all, the underlying political themes.... yeah, I don't think I need to explain to anyone why a Neil Gaiman show is a good thing to watch. Like, just for the fun of it.
Honourable mentions of shows I watch just for the fun of it:
Arrested Development, Heartstopper, Our Flag Means Death
Tumblr media
The Mandalorian
Okay. So. This is the last show I watched with my dad before he died. We got to the first episodes of season 2 and I haven't watched the rest of it yet. Star Wars was our thing, you know? And I really miss watching stuff with him.
Honourable mentions of shows I would've liked to share with dad:
Kenobi, The Witcher, The Sandman
Tumblr media
Shadow and Bone
This one's the most recent thing I watched, and it's where I'm at show-wise at the moment. Really, really liked it, and doing my part to get another season and hopefully, that Crows spinoff. My biggest current obsession. You get the gist.
Honourable mentions of shows I'm currently into:
Interview with the Vampire, The Crown, 911
...
Phew, this took way more work than is reasonable

Hey there😄😄I hope you're doing fine....I love your fanfictionss just too much and *adorable addition* is just my top favorite atory of yours😍😍😍. Yesterday you said i could make a request too so i was wondering if you can take in a request??😅😅 which is a Steve Rogers x reader request, which I had in mind for a long long time...I have made this request to some authors before but some of them never responded or just weren't interested in writing it so you can too decline but hear me out please😅😅... Ok so here goes nothing....
**Steve and reader being in an arranged marriage and steve is very rude towards the reader and would blame her, that due to their marriage he is not with peggy and how she irritates him, but still the reader did sweet things for him, made him food, tried to make him happy and tried to make their marriage work...but one day when she has enough of all the hurt, she stop doing stuff for steve and starts ignoring him..and also steve sees that peggy didn't love him but only his status as Captain America and was happy with someone else..then he realises his mistake and felt bad for treating his wife poorly...he tries to make up things with her but she now ignores him...His team members berate him for ignoring his wife and he gets jealous seeing someone else making a move on her.....and now he has to work his ass off to win back his wife...And can you end it with a happy ending and can it be long also? please🥺🥺
Arrange Marriage (S.R)
A/N: Thank you so much lovely and I loved the plot line. I loved writing about it and I made a few additions to the story. Hope you like it and I am open to more requests.
Steve Rogers Fanfiction (Fanfiction Master List)
Summary: Steve and you are married because the government wants Captain America to be a family ma. Steve is not happy with the arrangement and thinks he is in love with Peggy. You try to make your marriage work but he insults you every chance he gets. However, everything works out eventually.
Warnings: Angst but eventual fluff.
._._._._.
"I prepared some dinner for you," You spoke out when you saw your husband rushing towards his room. That's right, his room. Even though you were married for about a month now, you have never been in the same room for more than ten minutes.
"I am not hungry." He was quick to dismiss you and went straight to his room. You just looked at the muddy footsteps that were the only evidence that Steve was here. He was on one of his missions with your dad, Nick Fury. Your step dad, actually, because he rescued you from one of hydra base camps when you were eight years old. Those times were something that you have repressed in your mind and you would never think about them.
A few tears escaped your eyes when you kept all of the untouched food in the fridge which you spent hours preparing. You understood that you were not your husband's first choice but you both had an obligation to try to make it work. But lately, it was like you were all alone in this relationship and you felt so worthless.
Wiping the tears away, you made your way to the master bedroom because you had enough. If years of therapy have taught you anything, it is that no one had the right to make you feel that way. "Come in!" His pissed off voice filtered through the door and you took a shaky breath before entering.
"Hi. I just wanted to say that I prepared all of your favorite food and you didn't even look at it." You spoke timidly.
"I told you I was not hungry." He said from the changing closet and came out in his sweats. Looking tired was something not new for Captain America now a days and everyone at work was also starting to notice the change. "Why are we pretending to be like a normal, married couple?"
"Why can't we be one? I am trying here." He looked anywhere but at you because he knew that he would see those damp eyes. That was enough to make him feel guilty and he wanted to prevent that.
"You know why. I am in love with Peggy." The most hurtful thing that your life partner can say to you and Steve just did without taking your feelings into account.
"Then you could have said something before we got married." Panic was slowly setting in because you realised that you were stuck in a marriage that is never going to work out.
"The whole government was pushing me towards this marriage and Peggy was still not ready for that kind of commitment. I was stuck with you." Steve knew that the statement hurt you the moment the words escaped his lips. This was a revelation that rocked your world. And not in a great way, might you add. "You could have rejected the proposal."
"Do you think it was that simple for me? Dad has done so much for me and this was the one thing that he asked off me so I did not refuse. I thought that you agreed to this marriage and we could work it out in the future." Those dreams were being crushed right now and you knew that this marriage was doomed. It was like a hit to your gut and you felt caged in this room with your husband.
"Well, we can not." Leaving the room, you went straight to bed and cried yourself to sleep because there was nothing else you could add to that conversation.
After sometime, Steve came out of his room and made his way towards the kitchen. Opening the fridge, he took out the food to heat it up and realised that you made all of his favorite food. He was never going to admit it but he loved your cooking. Every night he comes in to the kitchen to eat all the food that you prepared for him. However, he realised that you didn't eat any of the food so you probably went to bed hungry. The guilt was eating him up and he felt helpless because he wanted to think that he didn't care about you. But sometimes, you don't even realise when a person is warming their way into your heart.
"Do you want to watch a movie?" Steve was home today and you were going out of your mind with boredom so you thought of asking him for some company.
"I am not in the mood." He was quick to dismiss the idea and turned around in the hallway while still scrolling through his phone.
"I just thought-"
"You thought nothing. Why are you so clingy? I told you I do not want to work on this relationship. You are the reason that I can not be with the love of my life. Please just leave me alone.” He rudely interrupted you because he was not in the mood to interact with anyone. Seeing a picture of Peggy on instagram, he became aware of the fact that he could not be with her because he is a married man now.
Peggy Carter had been the first person that he saw when he woke up from the ice after 40 years. She helped him to become Captain America and she was the most important person in his eyes. Those few months were really difficult for Steve but she helped him get through them. Peggy quickly became his girlfriend and when the councilmen wanted him to get married, he was quick to propose. But she told him that she was not ready to take that step and she backed off. He was still pining over her and it was not fair to blame you for everything but he needed to do that to make himself feel better.
“I am sorry.”
“(Y/N)-” You left before he could say anything else. There is only so much a person can tolerate.
Over the course of a few days, Steve noticed that you were indeed leaving him alone. You were not there to welcome him home when he got back from his missions and give him a massage even after he told you not to. You did not cook from him anymore and he really missed it. He loved the fact that you always made his favorites and you never even had to ask him. You haven’t talked to him since the night he yelled at you. Guilt was an emotion that he often felt whenever he saw you.
“So there is a charity event that we both are invited too. It’s black tie optional.” He leaned against the door as he watched you doing laundry.
“Okay, I will be ready.” These were the only five words that you have said to him in the past two weeks and they were not enough. He has missed you and your conversations. The house was too quiet now a days and he didn’t like it one bit. But he was too stubborn to be the one to break the wall.
“You have to wear a dress. Many people will be watching you because you are Captain America’s wife so please do not go with your sense of style.” He wanted to slap himself in the face when he saw you freeze. Why couldn’t he just have said something nice to her? Steve didn’t know how to talk to you without messing it up.
“Okay.” Sighing, he left the room and sulked in his bedroom for the remaining day.
You were never going to say it out loud, but you were really hurt by what he said today and that day. None of it was your fault and you have been thinking about ending this marriage. However, the thing was that you made a commitment and you were never the one to back out from things. You quickly finished doing the laundry and went to take a shower.
“Are you ready?” Steve fixed his bow tie before you opened the room and he was left speechless. You in a red dress with a slit running through the side was a side of you that he had never seen. So bold and outgoing.
“Yes. Just let me quickly apply my lipstick.” Watching you apply a red lipstick left him in a trance. His wife was truly something unique but he just ignored it. Shaking himself out of it, he thought about Peggy and how he loves her. You both left afterwards and the car ride was quiet with the exception of a few stolen glances.
‘We have to go hand in hand and smile for the red carpet.”
“Okay.”
You were always a little scared to walk in to these kinds of events and so you tightly clutched on to your husband’s arm. Steve knew that you were a little bit of an introvert so he squeezed your hand in response.
“I am going to go meet some councilmen.”
“I’ll be by the bar.” Making your way towards the makeshift bar, you ordered a martini and just sat there mixing your drink. On the other hand, Steve made polite talk with the councilmen and then excused himself to the washroom. He heard someone mention his name on his way to the washroom and that piqued his interest.
“Come on, I was never in love with Steve. He was my assignment from the S.H.I.E.L.D and that was it. I had to help Captain America adjust to this life.  I love you, Oliver and that is a fact.” Steve quickly left before he could hear anything else.
Honestly, he couldn’t believe that all those months spent with Peggy were just a lie and he was ruining his marriage because of her. He thought that it would hurt a lot but it was kind of a relief. He was now realising that he was never in love with her. It was kind of an obligation for him because he thought that he somehow owed it to Penny. But he didn’t and now he can finally give his marriage a fair try and not feel guilty about it.
“So what is a beautiful girl like you doing at a bar all alone?” Turning around, you saw Bucky with a smile adorning his face.
“Hi. It’s been such a long time since I last saw you.” You hugged your friend because he was one of the people that you were close to. You actually missed him in these past few months and were glad to see him right now. Getting in to a conversation was way easier than you thought.
“Hey Buck. What are you doing?” Your husband was quick to place his hands on the small of your back and you silently choked on his intimate gesture.
“I am fine, Stevie. Just catching up with (Y/N).”
“Oh okay. Would you mind if I take my wife to the dance floor?”
“No worries.” Silently taking you to the middle of the room, you both got to dancing and your breath hitched when he was so close to you right now. His cologne had taken over all your senses and you were drunk on him. God, it was pathetic but you could not help yourself.
“I want to try to work on our marriage.” You didn’t know if you were hearing things right now so you muttered a silent, “Come again.” He silently chuckled and repeated the sentence again. Looking at him, you stopped dancing and left the room.
“Why did you leave?” He found you at the balcony just staring at the stars with your hands wrapped around yourself. “It’s freezing.”
“Why? Why would you say something like that?” You whispered silently.
“I mean it. I want to try.”
“Don’t you love Peggy?”
“I have realised that I didn’t love her. It was like an obligation to me and I like you.”
“I can’t do this. You insulted me every chance you got and you made me think so low of myself.”
“I know and I am so sorry for that. I will spend my life apologising to you for it. Please, give me a chance.” There were some tears in your eyes and everything was becoming blurry.
“I can’t do that. I will always be your second choice.”
“No, you are not. Trust me, I have had feelings for you but I have been trying to repress them from the very start.” He tried to touch you but you took a step back.
“If we try this relationship thing out, will you promise me that you will tell me when you want to get out. We can get divorced right then and there.”
“I don’t want to be divorced and I will spend my life making it up to you.” He was quick to kiss you and it was way better than your wedding ceremony kiss. “I like you, (Y/N).”
“I like you too, Steve.” You went in to kiss him again and were glad that this marriage was going to work.
Hope you guys enjoyed it!!

Young & Beautiful~The Millionaire & The Canary
Tumblr media
Word Count: 2.6k+ Warnings: Mentions of violence, domestic violence, organized crime, murder, and death A/N: Sorry this took so long to post I was had a really bad reaction to my booster shot so I wasn’t able to really get any work done up until a day or two ago even then I struggle a bit. Hopefully the wait was worth it though. As for the music that inspired this piece it was a mix of Postmodern Jukebox’s covers, Why Don’t You Do Right? the Amy Irving version, and Lana Del Rey’s Young and Beautiful. Other than that I hope you enjoy. Reincarnate Masterlist KPOP Masterlist
1923
Jazz and warm lights filled the air as trumpets blared through the club. The atmosphere was exactly what Yeosang needed after a long week at the office. It was the era of lavish and luxury, a time to celebrate anything and everything. He took his usual booth joining his friends  as they ordered drinks to enjoy while resting against the red velvet seats. He loosened his tie as the lights dimmed preparing for the next act. She was introduced as a new singer in town, known to make grown men swoon at her presence and voice. She had stolen the hearts of many but never stayed in one place too long causing a trail of broken hearts to follow behind her. He scoffed at the telling of such a tale saying it was probably a made-up story to draw attention but as soon as she began to sing the first line of Why Don’t You Do Right? by Peggy Lee he too like the rest of them was entranced by her smooth voice and piercing gaze. Her hips swayed to the slow beat of the music before making her way into the crowd during the second verse causing the men to howl and whistle attempting to catch her attention. Too focused on her to notice as was now in front of them as she took a seat on their table, her satin dress rising slightly as she bent her knee. His friends cheered as Yeosang sat speechless at the center of the table. As she sang the song’s title she pulled Yeosang close by his tie causing him to swallow air as they made eye contact. His eyes could only widen as she swung her legs around effortlessly so that her legs were crossed in front of him within reach but he dared not to touch her afraid he’d melt on the spot. Her gown, despite having a slit that offered a more flexible movement, left little to the imagination by the way it was splayed across the table. Just as he stood to reach her, his face centimeters away from hers now fully under her spell she pulled away, letting go of him as she pushed him back to his seat, her heel against his chest as she finished the song. She walked away as the outro played and he couldn’t help but feel his brain go fuzzy as he released a breath he didn’t know he was holding.
After that night he attended the club every night during her usual performance time and despite his loyalty to being in attendance, he watched as she chose other men to put under her spell and although none of them had gotten as much of an intimate performance as him, he still felt a pang of jealousy. Not wanting it to linger any longer he decided to do something about it. The next day he sent her flowers before the curtain call with a message attached. As she walked backstage the other girls began to tease her. Clueless as to why she was surprised to see the bouquet of tulips, carnations, and marigolds at her vanity. She took a deep breath of its scent and smiled softly before sitting to pick up the note hidden in the flowers. She unfolded the cardstock reading the perfect penmanship. “I hope this gift doesn’t frighten you. I only meant to show my appreciation towards an incredible artist and her talents. A canary that has put a spell on me with her voice and charm alone and yet I would love to meet the woman behind the curtain that is if you give me the chance. If so, meet me at the booth in the back right corner where we first met. Yours Truly, K.Y.S. ``. As she finished reading the letter the girls peered over her shoulder to see just who the secret admirer was. As they squealed with excitement the house matron Liz snatched the letter out of her hand reading it over before tossing it back. “Don’t even bother, those playboys don’t promise anything but heartbreak and life on the streets. Remember why you’re here, you work for me now,” Liz stated coldly as she walked away back into her office probably to drink again till she passed out. As soon as the door closed Annie another club veteran took a seat next to her. “Don’t listen to that grouch, love can be found anywhere with anyone, even for dolls like us. Plus I hear that boy makes a handsome penny since returning from the war any gal would be over the moon to be with someone like him,” she teased, pinching Y/N’s cheek playfully before leaving to finish getting ready.
As she sat backstage after her performance she debated if she should take his offer. It wouldn’t be the first time she had a fling with a boy in the town she was in, but then again none had gone as far to give her flowers. As much as she wanted to, she knew she’d soon have to  leave in case they followed her. She took a breath flipping a coin to see what she’d do. Heads would stay and tails to meet him. She watched as the coin landed, spinning for what seemed like an eternity before landing on tails. She stood up making her way to the booth described in her letter bringing it with her. She reached the booth finding it empty yet took a seat wondering if she had misread the letter. That was until a sleek gentleman in a nice suit pulled up taking a seat next to her, handing her a single rose as he spoke, “Forgive me for being late I got caught up at work. I’m surprised you took my offer though. I’m sure many young lads are lining up to meet you in person.”
“That is where you’d be mistaken. No one wants to be with a promiscuous wandering singer,” she sighed with a deadpan face.
“I like to think of it as a canary migrating with the change of the season,” the stranger replied as he lifted her chin giving her a warm smile.
“You have a funny way of looking at the world, don't you wonder boy,” she said with a glazed expression.
“I like to think on the bright side of things and see the good in people,” he admitted.
“Well, then you have nothing to look for here. Anything good left in me died a long time ago,” she spoke with a defeated expression as she gently removed his hand standing to leave.
“Please wait,” Yeosang said, taking her hand in his, “Give me a chance to show you there’s still good in you. Just one date, if I can do it then we carry on as usual if not you can ignore me and pretend this never happened,” he said standing to catch up.
Despite the fear behind her eyes, she caved into the sincere light in his eyes. Agreeing with a silent nod he proceeded to give her the details she needed to know for their next meeting before he let her return to the stage.  He watched her leave with bittersweet emotion in his eyes both excited but also wondering why she thought of herself as grimly as she did. He returned home planning to sweep her off her feet the next time they met. The next day he canceled his meetings before heading to the local flower shop to get her a bouquet of daffodils and roses before stepping into the jewelry store to fetch a trinket for her. As soon as rehearsal was done Yeosang arrived at the club, his appearance causing the other girls to squeal with excitement as he stood near the upper seating. His hair was slightly messy yet looked clean, his blazer missing giving a spotlight to his arms which were exposed by his half-rolled sleeves. The girls swooned as they pulled Y/N from her hiding spot. “Don’t mind her, she's a shy one in person,” Annie teased as she pulled her towards Yeosang. Y/N gave a weak smile as she greeted the boy wonder. Putting her cold front as usual. Despite that Yeosang retained his boyish charm as he greeted her in return. Annie came in tow with Y/N’s things breaking the couple's awkward silence of flustered glances and neck rubbing before rushing the pair out to enjoy themselves. Once the door closed behind them they couldn’t help but laugh at her eagerness to get them out of there. “Is she always like that?” Yeosang asked curiously.
“Unfortunately yes,” Y/N joked, “She likes to live vicariously through the other girls,” she joked.
Feeling less pressure the pair began to walk speaking to one another as they headed towards their next destination. It took little to none for Yeosang to make her fall for him. From the private rooftop to the walk in the botanical gardens in the moonlight. Every moment spent together was one she enjoyed not for its extravagance but for his reasoning behind it and the gestures he displayed. No matter what happened through the night he was never anything short of a gentleman. Even as the late hours drew nearer he offered her his coat causing her to blush as she placed it on her. It wasn’t till he dropped her off at home that she realized their rendezvous was through. As they climbed the stairs to her doorstep they stopped at the top looking at each other like a pair of lovesick fools before she broke the silence between them. “Thank you for tonight, I had a good time,” she smiled.
“So does that mean I get to see you again,” Yeosang remained hopeful.
“Maybe,” she teased, “on one condition,” she stated, holding up a finger.
“Shoot,” he replied.
“You keep your promise,” she smiled softly.
“Say less, I’m already a lovesick fool for you,” he smiled, “I’ll let you rest goodnight darling,” he said with a tip of his hat.
“Goodnight wonder boy,” she smiled while slipping off his coat.
He stopped her midway through letting her keep it for their next meeting causing her stomach to fill with butterflies. With newfound confidence, she stood on her toes to place a kiss on his cheek leaving the boy in a lovestruck shock as she hurried inside to hide her own creeping blush on her cheeks. Yeosang returned home feeling as light as a feather as Y/N walked up towards her apartment slipping in and hanging his coat on the chair of her vanity hearing something heavy hit the chair she searched the pocket finding a black velvet box. She took a seat to open it, finding a small note with “Surprise” written on it with a heart. Lifting the note she lifted the dust cloth to find a simple diamond necklace. She smiled softly, gently running her finger over the chain and pendant before being interrupted by a figure in the reflection. Shutting the box she almost dropped it as the figure emerged from the shadows and her eyes widened in fear. “Now tell me what it is that foolish boy has that I didn’t give to you?” the son of the country’s biggest crime family asked.
“Vincent, what are you doing here?” she managed to choke out.
“What’s wrong I thought you’d miss me dollface?” he asked with a wicked grin.
He grabbed her by the jaw making her stand in front of him as she gasped for air fumbling to be released from his grip. He shook his head softly as he clicked his tongue in disappointment. “I thought you knew better than to run away from me Y/N,” he said with a mock hurt expression, “And to think I could've given you the world. Instead you decide to play pretend with that pretty boy fool,” he said before dropping her, leaving her gasping for air. His laugh after was a sinister and cruel one she had heard one too many times before when he was up to no good. She got on her knees to beg him for forgiveness but his laughter only became louder. “You knew what would happen if you went behind my back and left like that again. You used all your chances and now because of you not only will you suffer but so will an innocent man will too,” he spit venomously as he crouched to her level, “I wonder if he’ll still see that bright light in his canary after realizing she already belongs to another man,” he smirked as the realization dawned on her that he had been following her the whole time. She was now deadpan and speechless as Vincent’s men brought in a beaten Yeosang and she failed to look him in the eyes and the only thing she could look at was the floor as she began to shake in fear of what was next. It wouldn't be till Vincent lifted her chin as he was now crouched behind her that she noticed Yeosang’s concerned expression. Despite him being the one beaten to a pulp he only had her safety in mind not caring for the current situation which had a gun aimed at him. “Why don’t you do me the honors little songbird, I hope you prayed to meet in another life,” Vincent teased as he held her hand forcing her to hold the gun before he pulled the trigger. Only Y/N’s screams could be heard as Yeosang’s body instantly became limp. “Don’t worry you’ll meet your end eventually. That is whenever I decide I'm done with you. Now get up,” he said, pulling her by the hair with ease despite her tantrum taking her to his car to be brought back home.
2021
Yeosang sat at the booth of the club wondering how a place as old as this was still running. From the velvet seats, chandeliers on the ceilings, and outdated lighting and furniture this place screamed that it was at its peak during the 20’s and prohibition era. The once jazz club had now been turned into a burlesque club wrangling men from all walks of life to see the women sing and dance one stage. It wasn’t till the earpiece in his ear went off that he remembered why he was there in the first place. “Your witness is the venue’s newcomer and she’s on the run. Find a way to make her trust you and we got this case in the bag. Are we clear Detective Kang?” his chief officer in command asked.
“Yes sir,” he replied silently as the lights dimmed.
Once she took the stage though he became entranced by her presence just as the others. After her performance, he snuck backstage bumping into her. Before she could react he threw a hand over her mouth pulling her into her dressing room. Once her muffled screams turned to silence he carefully removed his hand. “Don’t worry I’m not here to hurt you, I just want to make sure you’re safe,” Yeosang explained.
“Why should I trust you?” Y/N asked skeptically.
“Because my name is Detective Kang Yeosang and I like to think on the bright side of things and see the good in people,” he said despite his boss’ protest in his ear.
“Well then you have a funny way of thinking wonder boy,” She stated coldly causing him to chuckle.
“Yeah I get that a lot,” he smiled awkwardly, rubbing the back of his neck.
“Well it’s nice to meet you,” she said giving a warm smile.

we’re fools (bucky barnes x reader)
summary: for all bucky barnes knows, he hates clichés. and this thing between you two, happens to be the biggest one.
(enemies to lovers trope or i watched the society on netflix recently and based this entirely on harry bingham and cassandra pressman)
pairing: college au!bucky x reader
warnings: alcohol, a lot of sexual references, but also a lot of fluff, bucky and reader are in love, also bucky gets cheesy and he hates it
(other parts)  (masterlist)
part 3/3:
Tumblr media
Bucky thinks he fell in love on a Tuesday.
“This year, I’m gonna ask Peggy Carter out.” It’s the first day of their third semester and Steve is putting his black baseball cap in his perfect hair, checking his reflection on his phone screen. One of the freshman girls winks at him and he shyly half smiles.
Usually, Bucky would tease him about it, but now he’s attention is wholly on something else. Someone else.
A girl at the other end of the hall, holding a paper juice box, wearing a gaudy denim dress that stops right before her knees.
He’s certain he hasn’t seen her before and judging by the adrift look on her face he deduces she’s in her first year. Is she pretty? He can’t decide. She’s definitely something. And if he stares at her a bit longer than socially acceptable, well let’s say, it’s completely unintended.
“Buck, did you hear what I said?” Steve says at one point and Bucky isn’t sure for how long he has been lost in her figure.
“Yeah sure.” The girl starts walking at their direction -it must be your lucky day, Bucky-, clutching the golden heart jewel around her neck. She’s looking at the doors, she’s looking at the big campus map they have on the wall. She’s looking everywhere but at him and it’s almost offensive considering the amount of time he spent looking at her.
“I’m sorry,” And then she’s there standing a few steps behind Steve. Almost hidden behind his colossal demeanor. “I can’t seem to find the Admission Office.”
A small nervous laugh escapes her lips and Bucky watches the little wrinkles around her eyes, the subtle blush on her cheeks. She doesn’t look pretty. No. She looks consuming.
“Admission office is on the left, doll”. He replies a little too fast. He had to beat Steve. He had to talk to her.
She smiles at him and somehow, along that smile, Bucky thinks he fell in love. With you.
-
(bucky barnes has been in love with you for 563 days)
-
“Did you just kiss me?”
His voice is barely a whisper and his vision is blurry and it’s weird because suddenly he realizes how scared he’s of you. Of the power you have on him. An alarming craving. Every addiction he can’t control combined. Bucky isn’t afraid of many things, not exactly. But he’s afraid that you’ll take his heart and break it, if you want to. And he’s more afraid that he’ll just allow you to. He wonders, for the split of a second, if you have any idea how everything changed when your lips met his. How something inside of him shifted.
“I’m sorry,” You finally answer and he needs a moment to compose himself, “I’m so sorry I just thought-”
“Shut up, I’d died if you hadn’t kissed me.”
“What?”
It’s innocent and terribly oblivious, the way you ask him that and he half smiles, almost touches your palm before his mind stops racing. Ignores the alcohol in his body. Reminds him that he’s Bucky Barnes, that he’s clever and brilliant and a little bit narcissistic and that he doesn’t do love.  Not anymore. And that people adore him for that. And that he needs to uphold it. At least try to.
“I’m not repeating that soppy thing I said,” He drawls and smirks, his teeth gleaming in the fluorescent light of the hall. He has his mask back on. He’s playing his part again. And then he takes a quick step, opens his door and turns around, swift motions and hard grips and suddenly your spine hits the walls of his room. “But you can repeat that sexy thing you did with your tongue.”
Bucky isn’t stupid. He knows he’d perish and wither in a blast if you asked him to, yet he would never admit that. At least not so fast. And specially not to you. He has built his persona so carefully, wore it like an armor, it has become a second skin.
His chapped lips scratch soft against your neck, his hands play with the end of your dress and you observe the way his orbs are colored darker now. He knows what he’s doing. It’s a show he’s practiced. His touch is sharp, like a razor, cuts through your epidermis, comes close to your veins and the muscles of your heart.
And you’re ready to close your eyes, savor every minute of it, offer yourself like an altar and let him wipe the rationality out of you, but the moment his fingers find the wet silk between your legs there’s pain and your throat dries out instantly.
“Bucky, wait.”
“What’s wrong doll?”
“Can we stop?”
There’s the cruel split of a moment where the anxiety inside of you flares up dangerously and you fill like on the edge of a cliff, like falling and it’s horrible. And then you see his body relax, breathing a sigh of relief and laughing.
“Thank God you asked.”
“Barnes,” you hit him with your elbow, “You’re doing wonders for my self esteem right now!”
“You’re an idiot,” he replies with a grimace, “It’s just that I’m drunk and I prefer if I’m not drunk when we have sex. I want to remember the whole thing.”
A strange sensation tingles somewhere between your ribs and your stomach, something so pure and new, and it raises goosebumps all over you. And you smile at him.
And somehow along that smile, Bucky’s mask starts to fall.
/
Bucky Barnes, you learnt within your first month in college, is a year older than you, a proud boy that always asks the right questions and always gives the right answers, with charms and wits of a living god.
Bucky Barnes, you learnt the night you kissed him in the narrow aisle, may have a sharp tongue but he also has the sweetest lips, soft and liqueur like.
Bucky Barnes, you learn some days later, doesn’t want many people to know about you two, and sits three tables away during lunch.
/
“Are you embarrassed of me?”
Your mind is racing with dozens of hurtful possibilities, some more or less, and Bucky looks at you, eyes widen and surprised.
“Why would I be embarrassed of you?”
“I don’t know,” you take the tea cup in your hands, drink and stay silent for a while, observe the way he’s fidgeting with his fingers, “Why else would you avoid me whenever there’s someone else but Sam around?”
It takes some time before he walks closer, sits next to you by his bedframe and touches your hand, your skin freezing under his.
“I’m scared.”
“Of what?”
Your heart almost stops, because Bucky is never scared, and his answer feels strangely heavy and bitter from his lips when he says, “I just don’t want anyone to ruin this.”
He doesn’t smile, doesn’t even smirk like he usually does, just stares at you with narrow eyes and a quick breath.
“Bucky, I hate it to break it to you,” you say, a glint of amusement in your voice, “But I don’t think others care that much about us.”
You cup his face in your hands, guide him backwards, his back hitting the pillow and it’s the first time he has no choice but to comply.
“And even if they do,” you breath in, wet your lips and tease the corner of his mouth with your finger, “It’s not our problem.”
Bucky grabs the back of your neck, shifts even closer to you, his heart not missing a beat. And when you kiss him, he smiles. And somehow along that smile, Bucky becomes more of himself.
/
It goes like this;
People read it in his eyes. How his gaze never leaves you even while you’re writing a test and he needs to concentrate, how he looks mesmerized when you braid your hair while scanning the textbook in front of you. How he could find you even in the middle of the biggest crowd.
People see it in your reactions. How your fingers always wrap around his wrist, almost instinctively, before he leaves, and you kiss him one time on the lips, and then one more on the cheek. How your voice changes as soon as he enters the room. How you’d know he’s here even without looking.
You really have to try to be oblivious to love.

It’s surprisingly easy, dating Bucky Barnes, and by the end of the first month, you feel at home, at ease.  He talks a lot, way more than you expected him to, he shares his favorites, the way he always underlines quotes he likes in the books he’s reading or how he never eats anything that has soy in it. He shows you everything about him, not just who he is, but who he’s ever been. And it’s beautiful.
And you observe how he breathes easier now, smiles more. He doesn’t keep his guard up, doesn’t flinch when nobody’s looking at him.
/
He thinks it’s weird.
He thinks it’s weird, because kissing has always been an act of foreplay to him and he never paid much attention, but now, with you, he could spend his whole life kissing you.
But when you start pulling at the buttons of his black expensive shirt, well, it’s not like he’s complaining. He presses his body against yours, his hands almost shaking, his fingers burying in your hair, slowly tugging.
“Bucky,” You breath in his neck, “I may be bad at this.”
“What?” He whispers as he leaves wet trails all the way to your chest.
“I haven’t done this before, so I may be bad at it.”
He stares right at your lips, notices your sweet cherry scent mixing with the sharp notes of his aftershave, touches the spot under your eyes and smiles.
“Guess we’ll have to do it over and over again then.” He’s half laughing, half kissing your shoulder and you can feel your cheeks flush and your entire being tighten.
And then his cold fingertips draw circles on your inner thighs and you close your eyes, and Bucky forgets how to breath.
/
“I probably sound like a fool but, I’m in love with you.”
You didn’t plan on saying it that early, but he’s here, warm and glistening and in your arms and you can’t go another minute without hearing the words out loud.
“And I probably sound competitive but, I’ve been in love with you since God knows when.”

Ghost of You - Part Two
Characters: Bucky x y/n, Steve x y/n (platonic)
Warnings: None?
Word Count: 1.3k
A/N: This is a small chapter! Its just a filler really, next part Bucky and Steve start really looking into what happened to the reader and where she went! Enjoy
Once again this is not proof read or edited
Part One
*****
Bucky was sitting next to Sam, across from Steve on one of the couches in the tower's living room, both hands holding your photo, his leg bouncing up and down. His mind was racing, memories of you were racing through his mind, both the good and the bad.
All the seconds he didn’t get to spend with you, all the wasted minutes trying to make you jealous, all the wasted hours on other women, all the wasted time he should have been with you. He was bubbling over with emotions, you were his greatest adventure but also his biggest regret.
You burst through the front door “Bucky! Are we still going to see a movie tonight? There's this new one playing down at the theatre we should see, Mary said its good”
Steve rolled his eyes, smiling at you “Knock much y/n?”
Plopping beside him on the couch “Awh come on n Stevie you know id never do such a thing” You looked around “Where’s Buck?”
You watched Steve smile fall, he parted his lips to respond but was cut off by Bucky opening the bathroom door, his eyes focused on buttoning his suit “Whatdya think Steve? Just got this today for my date with - y/n what are you doing here?” His blue eyes pierced into yours.
Your heart skipped a beat, he looked so handsome and that on its own was an understatement because Bucky always looked handsome “We had plans to see a movie tonight, but I see you found other, uhm better plans” Your voice betrayed you cracking at the last words, you tried to plaster on a smile but you couldn’t help feeling the liquid welling up in your eyes. This wasn’t the first time Bucky forgot about the plans he made with you, and you knew it wasn’t gonna be the last. Your eyes trailed over to Steve seeing him in overly large suit, putting two and two together, Bucky planned them another double date. Steve could see the realization swirling over your face. “Y/n, I don't even want to go, I’ll go with you to the movies”
You shook your head, standing up smoothing your dress. You felt so stupid, you bought a new dress, spent hours doing your hair and make up, you were so excited thinking maybe, just maybe Bucky would admit his feelings for you tonight, that all those stolen kisses, cuddles and drunken words actually meant something “Stevie its fine, James and you have better plans” You offered him a sad smile, making your way to the door.
Bucky cringed when you used his first name, it broke his heart “Doll, I mixed the dates up, I am so sorry” he reached out for your hand.
You pulled it away, almost regretting it aftering watch the pain and hurt make its way on his face, your one hand on the door knob “Seems to happen a lot lately, if you don't want to spend time with me James just tell me, I feel so stupid” You whispered the last part “Have fun Stevie”
“Doll”
Shaking your head you shut the door behind you.
—-
“I can go if you want Buck?” Sam offered
Bucky shook his head “Um no, it’ll be nice to have some support”
Steve cleared his throat “God, I don’t even know where to start Buck, it's a lot” He ran his fingers through his hair, Bucky looked up at him with pleading eyes “Just start, I need to know”
Steve nodded “After your last mission, I dreaded having to tell her Buck, she was always so hopeful after I told her I was leaving, after the serum, she kept telling me she knew you were coming back to her, that you guys were finally gonna have your chance at being together, that we just had to make it through the war” Steve paused taking a deep breath “And when i knocked on her door, she had the biggest smile on her face, yknow the one she always had when she got that stupid chocolate shake from the diner”
Bucky let a small laugh escape his lips remembering how much you loved that stupid chocolate milkshake that he declared was too chocolate-y.
The door chime went off and your eyes shot up “Well about damn time you two showed up!” You giggled jumpin up to give Steve and Bucky a hug.
Bucky slid in beside you, his arm slung around your waist, “You just early doll”
You turned to face him, your eyes peering into his “You know how much i love this place Buck”
Bucky hummed “Is that all you love?“
You opened your mouth but were cut off by the waitress coming but with your order “Here you go sweetheart, One chocolate, one vanilla and one strawberry, enjoy!”
You instantly pulled away from your moment with Bucky taking a big sip of your shake “Mmm this is by far my favourite time of the week! Nothing better than spending time with my boys!” You reached across the table and ruffled Steve’s hair “And getting a sugar rush”
A tear rolled down Steve’s face, clearing his throat “The look on her face when she saw mine, it was something I'm glad you never got to see Buck, she was broken. We sat on the floor for hours, she cried till she fell asleep in my arms, i stayed with as long as I could, but i had to go back it was my duty” He paused, eyeing his friend over before continuing “She kept saying that she didn’t get the chance to tell you she loved you, that you didnt know”
“I knew” Bucky choked out
“I know, i told her” Steve offered a small smile
You were doing dishes when a knocking came from your front door “coming!” you yelled, taking your rubber glove’s off, fixing your apron, you opened the door and a smile broke out on your face when you seen Steve, but as soon as your eyes locked onto his you could see something in them that wasn’t there before, you started to shake your head “no no no no, no!” you screamed tears were streaming down your face, Steve took a step towards you “y/n I-“
You took a step back into your house “NO! He promised Stevie, he p-promised” You fell to the floor, you were clutching your chest as you let out a scream. Steve knelt down on the floor with you, pulling you in his arms, you cried and cried, your heart broke, everything hurt “I l-love him Stevie, i never got t-to tell him, h-he didn’t k-know”
Steve grabbed your face in his hands “He knew y/n, he knew. He loves you to, so much”
“Loved”
“What?” Steve’s eyebrows met in the middle
“He loved me, h-hes gone now”
Bucky readjusted himself on the couch “What happened to her? Did you find out”
Steve shook his head “I tried, it was one of the first things I did, but there was nothing on her, it's like she never existed. I asked Peggy when I found her, she didn't make much sense, said something about y/n became obsessed, she didn't say what with, said she kept saying that she knew you weren’t gone that you wouldn’t leave her, and the last time she seen or heard from her was one week after I went down. There is no death certificate, i searched the cemeteries in Brooklyn, i stopped by her old house and its gone, there’s nothing there, it's like she just disappeared”
“No, there has to be something. I need something” Bucky cried out “Steve that's not her story” He ran his fingers over your picture “We need to look again”
