Oof. Honestly, the fact that the Iron Widow author defended Lindsay Ellis explains so much of the book's shallow girlboss feminism.

wow almost seems like this whole romanticization of "girlhood" thing kind of revolves entirely around consumerisim. "little treats". 10 step skincare regimens. "girl math" as an excuse to be financially illiterate. be a good girl, don't think, just spend inordinate amts of money to conform to the latest tiktok microtrend bc that's all it means to be a girl <3

The idea that feminists need to do something for men in order for them to be taken seriously is literally so fucked up and selfish. A thousand years of patriarchy and sexist cultures that have benefited men, yet men still want feminism to do something for them? Fucking selfish and so fucking disgusting. When I say men are privileged, this is what I mean. Feminism, a movement about women, has to somehow benefit men for them to not rape, abuse, kill and discriminate women. Like don't they see the irony? We're still expected to do something for them; to obey and serve them in some ways just so that they can take us seriously, which even then they don't. We're somehow supposed to raise voices for men as well now when we're already not heard, we're expected to carry their burdens and 'oppression' as well as ours because they can't be bothered to make movements and changes for themselves. Because they're so used to us doing everything for them? Honestly fuck men and if this posts offends men and they start whining about 'not all men' rather than focusing on the issue at hand, then you're part of the problem.

We spent 8 seasons watching how everybody south and north of the wall scorned Jon for being a bastard and how even the doubt of the future king being illegitimate (while having the very plausible excuse of looking like his mother) burst a giant war where almost everybody dies and now we are supposed to believe Rhaenyra putting bastards (that don’t even look like her) on the throne has no political repercussions whatsoever?

I think one of the most annoying things to come from bimbo feminism is the "explaining _________ for the girls" videos (looking at you @nikitadumptruck). You know the videos on politics that are targeted towards women by explaining a political crisis by comparing it to when you broke up with your bf or explain a financial crisis as like the time you spent too much on makeup.
They imply that women are incapable of understanding real world issues like men. They imply that women can't just read the NYT like everyone else and can only understand information when it is cut down into bite size, misogynistic chunks.
As someone who is about to get their third political science degree these vides infuriate me because I know that every woman in politics has to fight so hard to be recognized. These videos remind me of the time a male classmate said I only got a good final grade in my comparative politics class because I was attractive, despite seeing me walk into the final with a 7-page review sheet and an entire notebook of lecture notes and old tests. These videos remind me of the time we had a class discussion about feminism, except none of the women in the class got to speak on it because the men spoke over everyone. These videos remind me of the time a male classmate said I should do a presentation over the department of education, instead of doing a critique on the military budget, because it was a "feminine" topic.
There is not a single woman that watches these types of videos that can't understand the topic at hand normally. Most of my political science classes have been mostly smart, capable women. These videos are especially harmful because they aren't "reclaiming" anything and only serve to reaffirm the sexist belief that women don't belong in politics and shouldn't have any say on important issues.

it's funny, but for someone who claims to be in it for the families of the victims, jj is terrible at helping these families feel better. like every single thing she says sounds like it came out of a manual or a pinterest board. i'm rewatching s6ep2 and it's supposed to be this episode that convinces us how important jj is to the team, but she does zero research into the family. she had no idea the parents already had a son who died. she doesn't help the parents when they're fighting (even though this kind of thing happens thousands of times in abduction cases). she can't explain the logic behind the abduction when the entire show is about the fact that there is a rationale behind criminal behaviour. frankly, i wanted the father to yell at her more because god knows i would have. and all she has to say is 'it's natural to blame someone, but for now, you really have to hold on to each other' and if she'd said that to my face, i'd cut a bitch.
as if garcia wouldn’t have already found any of that information??? i hate when they ignore fundamentals of the show (like garcia’s job description literally being to violate privacy laws) for the sake of cool character moments. it cheapens the show, cheapens the characters, and overall just makes the writing seem worse than usual. it’s just so annoying bc like… this would not SHOULD not be a problem for her???

minx is interesting. It’s interesting and it’s interested in things in a way that I find a lot of current media about feminism not to be. There’s an active interest into poking into some of the uncomfortable areas without simple conclusions when it comes to how feminism should relate to sex and the market/capitalism.
also really appreciate the unapologetic 70’s ness and the use of 70’s events, catchwords, buzz etc in a way that doesn’t always feel tee hee
#Like idk if it always comes to the Conclusions but is really interesting to see a show which is ABOUT feminism and what it actually is#With imperfect people#What does it /mean/ to make something feminist and what does it mean when that thing has to be sold#There’s a couple moments so far that are like well this would blow someone’s mind off#It’s interesting to chew on relative to Daisy jones lol#I’m not going to say it’s anti capitalist but it’s also not that type of subliminal capitalist fantasy show#That just ignores the demands of capitalism to write off a world for the people who’ve already won#Very much almost in Convo with something like the bold type or classic sex and the city for that#Like the whole second episode thing with the ads#the ads unapologetically sucking and being soooo sexist#And upper class country club goer white feminist Joyce /also/ being extremely confined mentally to sexist advertising#Like I hate the edible panties. U know what’s great? Shampoo and makeup#And Doug mentioning that if they /don’t/ advertise the cost of the magazine will go above most people’s ability to pay for it#Like. It’s a show Thinking about a lot of this#I think Joyce is so interesting because she’s both so much more radical and so much more flawed than a lot of the /girlboss/ characters out#There. She’s the rare example of an upper class white feminist that I think the narrative is aware of the class part at least#And she’s flawed and kind of mean and totally out of it#And also like. 5000% more radical than a lot of the the equivalents#Like she isn’t trying to publish Feel Empowered with Sexy Lipstick articles#She’s trying to publish articles about birth control marital rape and abortion access#And her issues often come from where the radicality of her vision is being compromised by praxis#Like that’s so interesting

They do NAWT i cannot describe this to you. It feels so generic american pop. No offence to american pop. But eurovision is about the spectacle, the DRAMA. This is what i hear in slightly overpriced clothing stores

All these defenses of religion as "WELL PEOPLE CAN DO WHATEVER THEY WANT SO LONG AS THEY'RE NOT ANTI-SCIENCE SOCIOPATHS" would have more weight if it wasn't the equivalent of "pink" rich white girlboss feminism.
A lot of these arguments are coming from privileged white people who are back-handedly defending the regressive shitheads they are close to. Whatever their philosophy, the overarching point is, they want to sleep with / do business with people who advocate a problematic thing, and they want you to shut up and back off because they have no intention of turning on that world that feeds them. They demand the right to be closeted progressives who can reap all the rewards from unjust traditional systems while hiding who they are irl.
They know tradfems "topping from the bottom" and theism are both nonsensical excuses for rich white men to talk hip while maintaining the 1880s. They know both are irrational and exploitative and defended with violence. But they are happy and comfortable and successful in that world, and how dare you demand they abandon it! They mortgage property (on stolen land) there! So they hem and haw and ah shucks and end up bravely declaring that believing in Jesus is okay while you wear a hair bonnet, so long as you're kind about it.
And that had nothing to do with a considered philosophical position. It is entirely because they need that world as badly as the evil shits who actually think it's good.
Neoliberalism is 100% making deals with the Devil so he will keep paying you with ill-gotten goods. And this is why, when fascism arises, they are utterly powerless to stop it. Because they need all of the things it does, they just hope it can be "nicer." So they can feel better every time they pass the pile of (brown) bodies it creates.
If you know atheism and equality are right, then you have no justification for arguing for exceptions for jackasses who oppose them. You're only doing that because you're keeping a toe in that world.
And that makes you exactly as guilty and shit as they are, you white supremacist coward.
Regressive nonsense kills us. No one gets a pass because they're your brother.
If you think so, you are as much in the way of peace and us reaching our potential as the worst person on Earth.

these kinds of posts have infuriated me since 2013 because most disney princesses were victims of abuse, patriarchy, corruption, etc. and are strong role models because of how they dealt with adversity. through that they also found love and happiness which they deserve! and not all of them actually married the men right after meeting them (:
