with how we're all aware of how toxic masculinity leads men/boys to harass, assault, and abuse other men/boys, you'd think the fact they can be harmed by patriarchy and misogyny wouldn't be a controversial statment. *especially* marginalized men. but alas, many people have taken the "identity" in identity politics so literally, they just end up ignoring and reinforcing the harmful things they claim to be against.
also if you think the pain of the men harmed by toxic masculinity isn't a big deal because they're men... that is. that is literally you believing in toxic masculinity. like i thought we all knew part of toxic masculinity is that men shouldn't feel pain, they shouldn't cry, they can't ask for help or be truly hurt, etc. etc. and if they do any of these things, then they're not real men and not only deserve to be emasculated, but deserve to suffer. you just switched it to they are real men so they deserve to suffer.
and even though again, this is extra harmful for marginalized men, i shouldn't have to say that for you to care. if you only give support to people harmed by these systems when you think deserve it, you're always going to end up propping these systems up at some point. maybe you should stop that.
also. to any man reading this who feels like their pain doesn't matter: it does. you deserve to exist in a world where you're safe to be yourself and feel emotions, and get genuine protection and support. we all need to exist in that world. none of us deserve this hell.

Let me talk Anarchism
Tumblr media
Okay, let me quickly talk about it, because I am so annoyed with this. For once in the way how it relates to Solarpunk, but also in relation to media. And yeah, choosing good old Hobie here, because while it was kinda played for humor with him a lot, he was one of the few characters in media I have seen, that are actually kinda a positive representation of anarchism.
You know, media in general misrepresents anarchism all the time. Sometimes for propaganda purposes, and sometimes because the creator does not know any better and has grown up with said propaganda themselves and just believe it. Most of the time, media hence represents Anarchism as "Society without rules!", which is most certainly not what anarchism is.
The word Anarchism comes from the Greek An Arkhos, which translates into "Without Rulers". That is exactly what Anarchism means. Anarchism is a political philosophy that aims to get rid of all unjustified, involuntary hierarchies.
This is, by the way, why Anarcho Capitalism might use the word, but can never be anarchist, because capitalism aims to build unjustifiable hierarchies. It is exactly the goal of the system. So Anarcho Capitalism is a contradiction in itself.
An anarchist society will still have rules. We know that, because there have actually been societies in history, that today we would call anarchist. It is just that instead of a sort of some group of people ruling over everyone else deciding on those rules, everyone would get to have their say in it. That is, why those historical examples of anarchism for the most part have sprung up in smaller, close-nit societies, because before the age of the internet it would've been rather hard to make everyone's voice heard.
If you are wondering: "But isn't democracy already doing that?" The answer is no. Because democracy is not working, due to the politicians having all the power and the populus not being able to force them to stick to whatever they promised during the election. We cannot recall politicians, who have lied to us. So for the most part, it is the people with big money, who influence the politics. People, who were not even elected, but who the politicians will try to please more than the average joe, who has voted for them.
It is another reason, why a lot of anarchists are against the police. Not only do they use police violence, but they are in a position, where they are allowed to use it against people, often without much reprecussions. And all of that, without the people having any say in who does and does not get to be a police(wo)man. It is another unjustified hierarchy.
And, yes, it is also why anarchists tend to be against the concept of nation states. Because internationally some states rule over others. Colonialism might've ended on paper, but it has not ended in practice. The reason some nations are poor, while others are rich, is that the poor nations get exploited by rich nations. An unjustified hierarchy. And that is without starting on the fact how many borders have been drawn by people, who had no right to do so.
On the small scale, though, anarchism first and foremost is about helping people. Mutual aid is one of the core principles of the anarchist movement. Helping people, who got left behind by the unjustified state and the people who are in power. It is also about empowering people and allowing them to find their own voice.
See, here is the fact: One of the core believes in anarchy is, that people are actually not terrible. If the state stopped existing tomorrow, people would not run around, murder and pillage. They would still help one another. We have seen this time and time again when through war or natural catastrophies systems of power have failed. People help each other. Because we are actually a pretty social species.
This is also why I absolutely loathe the depiction we see in a lot of media. Most of all in Legend of Korra. Where not only the Red Lotus, as an anarchist group, does not do jack shit in terms of mutual aid and things like that... We also see basically the Earth Kingdom go to ruins and violence within minutes of the Earth Queen having been killed. Like, no, that is not how people would react in that situation. There would not be instant riots or some shit. Jesus. What made them think that?
And yes, sure. Some anarchists might riot on the streets, because they riot AGAINST the unjust system. But always remember: Usually, when there is police violence for example against a protest, it is your friendly neighborhood anarchist, who will be willing to put themselves between you and the police.

Whenever someone says, “Humans are the most destructive species on Earth,” remind them it's not humans. It's men. Men are destructive. Stop blaming women for men’s failings.

A big part of supporting gay men and trans men is dismantling the patriarchal image of what a man should be/look/act like, by the way.

Choice feminism will never yield any real results because it treats the patriarchy-the system that traditional feminism aimed to destroy- as almost nonexistent. Yeah okay, ‘patriarchy’ is thrown around as a buzzword, but it’s never seen as a legitimate means of controlling women by choice feminists. Here’s why.
Choice feminism assumes that every choice a woman makes is made in a vacuum. A woman’s choice to wear makeup is her choice made without the influence of beauty standards pushed by a trillion-dollar beauty industry made by men. A woman’s choice to do sex work is her choice uninfluenced by hyper-sexualization and misogyny created by the porn industry once again created by men. A woman’s choice to participate in kink culture is her choice uninfluenced by the porn culture and influence men created to keep women submissive.
Critical thinking is thrown away just so choice feminists can say ‘look at me! I’m empowered doing things men have always expected me to do and benefit from’. Proving some half-thought-out point about women’s autonomy is more important than breaking free from the financial, political, and cultural systems of oppression the patriarchy created for these feminists.
Throwing around ‘fuck the patriarchy’ does nothing when you don’t acknowledge it as an extremely powerful force that penetrates women’s lives and influences decision-making.

It's ridiculous that in fiction, women are criticized for being angry and bitter and brutal and exhibiting typical masculine traits that would be praised in a man (cough Nesta cough), but they'll also criticize a woman for being gentle and refined and emotionally balanced and exhibiting typical feminine traits by calling them "useless" with "no personality" (cough Elain cough). Reflective of how women are treated in real life. Called selfish for wanting a full time job while also called useless when they choose to stay at home and look after the house. Women can't win here. #patriarchy

religion will be like, it's because women talk to animals and eat fruit that childbirth is so painful, and the soil so hard to work! Not because we took away all of the midwives and created horrendous agriculture practices

Women who hate men and believe it’s a fault to do so, I’m here to tell you….
This is based on reality.
Only a small amount of men are decent humans. Statistics and history prove this. We are brainwashed to believe we need them and they are necessary but the truth is, beyond their seed for pregnancy, we don’t. They need us. They literally exist because of our womb, our raising, and our skills at community. Our most ferocious predator is men. Hating them is practically natural as a primal instinct of survival.

The idea that feminists need to do something for men in order for them to be taken seriously is literally so fucked up and selfish. A thousand years of patriarchy and sexist cultures that have benefited men, yet men still want feminism to do something for them? Fucking selfish and so fucking disgusting. When I say men are privileged, this is what I mean. Feminism, a movement about women, has to somehow benefit men for them to not rape, abuse, kill and discriminate women. Like don't they see the irony? We're still expected to do something for them; to obey and serve them in some ways just so that they can take us seriously, which even then they don't. We're somehow supposed to raise voices for men as well now when we're already not heard, we're expected to carry their burdens and 'oppression' as well as ours because they can't be bothered to make movements and changes for themselves. Because they're so used to us doing everything for them? Honestly fuck men and if this posts offends men and they start whining about 'not all men' rather than focusing on the issue at hand, then you're part of the problem.
