Animate DTIYS with tutorial!
Meet Petals and Antenna 🌸 🍃 I’m hosting my first DTIYS challenge, aimed at 2D animation beginners or illustrators who want to try animation, check out the tutorial!
(The main challenge is on Instagram, but of course, you can share it here too! Though I gotta be honest, I still don't know exactly how Tumblr works, so I may not see it, but tag me or send a message or something please! And I'm sorry I feel so boomer lol).
Guidelines - Animate (or draw) Pet and Anty (one or both) - You can follow the tutorial or make a crazy sakuga, however you want! - I’ll share them until June 15th
With all the AI stuff going on, I am in a pretty bad mood regarding art; so much disrespect toward artists is disheartening. To counteract that, I decided to host my first challenge with an animation approach! Starting 2D animation can be daunting, hopefully this challenge and tutorial gives you an easy introduction and gets you pumped about what you can accomplish!
Cheers 💕

some elements of spellwork distinguishing animist or spirit-based approaches from the energetic and psychological -- a laughably basic and woefully incomplete list:
waking: most especially relevant for dried herbs or other preserved material. rouse what lies dormant with breath and touch and whisper.
speaking (or writing, etc): ask for assistance, don't demand it. give praise, throw in some epithets. make deals, discuss terms and conditions. say thank you. say what you mean.
listening: now shut up for a bit. anticipate communication. words, song snippets, images, colours, feelings, whatever. look out for a "no" and be ready to honour it--it may hit hard in the chest or the guts. we have two-way streets here.
giving: praise, prayers, food, drink, candles, incense, crafts, all the usual suspects and more... reciprocity is key, no one likes a perpetual taker. some situations call for altruism, others for hard-nosed contracts, others for a secret third thing.
feeding: giving again, but specifically to maintain or revive longer workings. remember what the dormouse said...
sourcing: the perfect is the enemy of the good, but it makes a difference. grow, make, forage (responsibly) as much as possible. listen & give when sourcing things from the earth. shop ethically, re-use, thrift.
paring down: if it seems like a lot to go through for everything you want to include in your spell, then good. depth before breadth. use fewer herbs/stones/whatever that you know well, and that really need to be there. god i hate 12-ingredient spell jar recipes with #babywitch stuck on them. yes i will probably stick #babywitch on this. sue me.
to me these follow logically from the premise that plants, stones, bones, bits & bobs have spirit, not just energy. because that implies that their power must be given, it isn't just there to be channelled (energetic model) or derived from the practitioner's mental associations (psychological model). i claim nothing of reality and little of truth, but this premise has served me well.
just in case: the writing style is a little conceit that i use in many of my personal notes, which this was originally. obviously “in my opinion/experience/practice” etc.

Dead Bunny
short poem i wrote about a dead bunny i saw
There's a dead bunny on the side of the road
Lying on its side; not resting
Left hind bone bloody and exposed
Crimson trail leading to the body
Crossing the border of asphalt and earth
Maybe death feels better when it feels like home
im very new to writing so criticism and tips are greatly appreciated ^_^

Common animal meanings in dreams
Interpreting animal symbols in dreams can be subjective, but here are some general associations:
1. Snake: Transformation, healing, or hidden fears.
2. Lion: Strength, courage, or leadership qualities.
3. Birds (especially eagles or owls): Freedom, intuition, or spiritual insight.
4. Cat: Independence, mystery, or sensuality.
5. Dog: Loyalty, friendship, or protection.
6. Butterfly: Change, renewal, or personal growth.
7. Wolf: Instincts, independence, or a desire for freedom.
8. Horse: Power, energy, or a desire for freedom.
9. Fish: Emotional depth, spirituality, or abundance.
10. Elephant: Wisdom, strength, or memory
Remember, these interpretations are general and may not resonate with everyone. Personal feelings and experiences play a significant role in dream symbolism.

Telemachus and Odysseus (animated)
Tumblr media
Boop! :D
They're so pleased with each other's company, they could literally play this game for hours.
Creator's Note:
eeeeeeek! This was my first time ever trying to animate something! And it worked??? I thought animation would always be something that was too confusing and hard but now I've done it??? what?! I know its kinda scribbly and not the most beautiful thing to look at but, for a first attempt, I'm pretty over the moon about how it turned out. Beyond my wildest dreams 🥹
I hope you like it!
I have to go run around in circles and scream in sheer giddy glee at the new frontiers this day has unocked! >:))))! byeeeeeeee~
P.s.
The song playing in my head on repeat while making this was Hamilton’s “Dear Theodosia”. I know it’s not EPIC but it really fits the moment (specifically these bits)
My son, look at my son!
Pride is not the word I'm looking for
There is so much more inside me now
//
My son
When you smile, I fall apart
And I thought I was so smart
//
My father wasn't around (my father wasn't around)
I swear that I'll be around for you…. 😬…
I'll do whatever it takes (I'll make a million mistakes)
I'll make the world safe and sound for you
But anyways I don’t know how to add sounds to stuff yet, so uh, maybe next time

Beginner Hikers: Trail Etiquette
@somesuchnonsense added some EXCELLENT info in the tags on my beginner gear post about Hiking Etiquette, and frankly, it deserves its own post:
While you might be going out hiking to get away from other people, odds are good you're still going to encounter a few other folks doing the same, and some basic politeness and understanding of trail etiquette can keep you from being that guy.
So!
How to Not Be An Asshole Hiker:
Acknowledge Other Hikers. You don't have to have a whole conversation -- most people don't want you to -- but making eye contact with a brief nod or 'hello' as you cross paths is considered polite.
Respect the Right of Way. While you're going one way on the trail, someone else may be coming the other way. If the trail is narrow, one of you is going to have to step to the side. The general rule is that hikers going uphill have the right of way, and hikers going downhill should yield. That being said, if you have the right of way but notice that you have a better spot to step off to the side of the trail safely than the other person or party, it's polite to do so. Also, if you are hiking solo and there's a large group coming through the other way, it's polite to let them pass since it's easier for one person to move aside than a whole troupe. It's also polite to acknowledge people going the same way as you at a slower pace that you may be passing, and give them a chance to step aside before you pass them.
Stay On The Trail. Apart from stepping aside to the edge of the trail to let others pass, you should stick to the blazed trail and avoid bushwhacking. This is important for your safety so you don't get lost, and also for the ecosystem -- you could be damaging protected plant life or increasing erosion by trying to make your own shortcut. (Reasonable excuses to leave the trail are if you need to relieve yourself, or if there is a tree down or rock slide across the trail that you need to circumvent for safety)
Leave No Trace. On the topic of not damaging the ecosystem -- If you're gonna have a picnic, bring a bag for your garbage (or any toilet paper if you had to use some), and be sure to clean up after yourself, and erase any signs you were there. Everyone else wants to enjoy the scenic beauty of nature too, so leave it as pristine as you found it. [Side note: Leave the rocks alone, do not stack them into cairns, but also do not mess with existing cairns by adding or removing rocks if you see any -- these are often built by trail maintainers as trail markers in places above tree line where blazes may be obscured by snow and are important to keep folks from getting lost]
No One Wants to Hear Your Music. So you have a cool little Bluetooth speaker so you can blast your favorite tunes with your friends? Cool! Keep it at home! If you want to listen to music when you hike, wear headphones. Don't make your noise everyone else's problem. Enjoy the sounds of nature, and respect that other hikers may be out here for the serenity of the wild, and not your spotify playlist.
Look Out For Other Hikers. If you see another hiker in distress, see if they need help. If there's a problem on the trail up ahead or conditions they should be aware of for safety, give other hikers a heads up. Step up to be a good samaritan where one is needed if you are able. Some of the kindest strangers I've had the honor of meeting, I've encountered on a trail. It can be a really wonderful community!!!
