Animate DTIYS with tutorial!
Meet Petals and Antenna 🌸 🍃 I’m hosting my first DTIYS challenge, aimed at 2D animation beginners or illustrators who want to try animation, check out the tutorial!
(The main challenge is on Instagram, but of course, you can share it here too! Though I gotta be honest, I still don't know exactly how Tumblr works, so I may not see it, but tag me or send a message or something please! And I'm sorry I feel so boomer lol).
Guidelines
- Animate (or draw) Pet and Anty (one or both)
- You can follow the tutorial or make a crazy sakuga, however you want!
- I’ll share them until June 15th
With all the AI stuff going on, I am in a pretty bad mood regarding art; so much disrespect toward artists is disheartening. To counteract that, I decided to host my first challenge with an animation approach! Starting 2D animation can be daunting, hopefully this challenge and tutorial gives you an easy introduction and gets you pumped about what you can accomplish!
Cheers 💕

Crochet cat/bear basket
Here's another cute gift idea: a small crocheted basket with animal ears.
This beginner-friendly project requires the basic crochet stitches, and knowing how to work in the round.
You can find this pattern for free on Ravelry and on Móhu's blog. It comes with an option for bear ears and one for cat ears.

Procreate Tutorial Four
The last tutorial was fun, gave a hint to the animation side of things. Makes me wonder about their Procreate Dreams app, but I think I’ll stick to getting a handle on regular drawing before I think of animation 😊

@bamanimation-blog provides insights on beginning to animate with a few animation principles. I did enjoy their explanation on those few principles to get you started with animating a character.
Give it a watch and a try animating the same character or using one of your own characters. Enjoy!

Hey look a blink cycle!
I worked this up last night and thought I would use this base for a demo.
Time spent: 4+ hours (mostly on coloring & layer adjustments)
Original base (c): undwing
Time to learn!
Program wise I use Firealpaca (frame creation) and Gimp 2 (frame ordering/timing) since both are what I'm most familiar with, ideally this should work with any program that can import/export animated gifs. With Gimp you can follow along the process as I explain.
Quick rundown:
Frame 1 (Idle): Duplicated 4 times. Two at the front, two at the end. Time at 800ms. I'm sure it's not necessary to duplicate this many times or there's another method but it does the job of padding.
Frame 2 (Quarter/Half Blink): Duplicated 2 times. One after the Idle then another after Frame 3. Time at 80ms (recommended to stay within 50-90ms range).
Frame 3 (Full Blink): Single. This is the middle of the cycle so let's give it a slight "pause" but not overly noticeable. Time at 110ms (basically 20-30ms ahead of the previous and next frames).
Total there should be 7 frames.
Cool, huh? Hopefully this helps!
Feel free to ask any questions or add your own tips.

Inkscape Mini Tutorial - Designing simple Animals using basic shapes and strokes
This mini video tutorial from 2Dgameartguru.com explains the design of simple animals with basic shapes and strokes in Inkscape v1.3. In this short video, I apply easy-to-use tools to create and pose a simple bird made up of circles and lines. The lines can be bent, curved, and repositioned quickly to put the bird or any other animal into a pose. I add the Path Effect Taper Stroke to the tail feathers to shape them.
