Somebody mentioned in a tag on one of my posts the scene where Marco Animorphs is showering after antmageddon and he finds an ant stuck to his hip by the pincers where it presumably was trying to bite him in half when he was an ant and then it died from him becoming very big very fast and I feel like that scene, and the scene where Cassie finds a sliver of a sentient person’s flesh between her teeth while she’s flossing and then flosses until her gums bleed, really deserve recognition in the literary canon. Applegate deserves an award. There should be a TV Trope named after whatever the fuck that is. Like fridge horror but diegetic. Bathroom horror. Your bedtime bathroom routine as an opportunity for personal confrontation with the violent detritus of the dead which lingers in and on your body even after you have ostensibly stripped yourself of weapons and healed over all your wounds.

I love writing about drunk Steve, imagine he’s coming home from a night out. Eddie has him on one arm and you have him on the other. Eddie as much as you love him was the worst choice. He’s complaining the whole time how heavy Steve is. At one point, Robin ( the uncoordinated one) manages Steve better than him. But Steve is wailing like an actual baby.
“Please, I want to be with my girlfriend. Where is she? Did— did— no no don’t tell me we lost her.” He’s still crying, and at this point Robin is fed up.
“No, you nimrod, she’s right next to you.”
For a second it seemed like he sobers up, “Nimrod. That’s a new one.” But he finally lays his eyes on you and it’s almost like a cartoon. If hearts could shoot out of his eyes. They would have.
“Baby.” He says so soft and tender, it melts your heart. But Eddie and Robin are grossed out.
“Is he okay? He’s not going to throw up, is he?” Your friend, Charlie asks.
“Hopefully, not in the car.” You say, you open Steve’s car and letting him in to the passenger seat.
“Woah— Woah, I’m driving. I always dr-drive.” You give him a gentle kiss on the lips before answering.
He looks at you, waiting for a response and your heart; it could almost give out.
“Baby, I love you. But if you get behind that wheel. We would die. So no, bye Charlie! Thank you! Tell Katherine I’ll see her tomorrow!” You say, Steve frowns, you head over to the driver side and get in the car.
Robin and Eddie already inside.
“Did we all have fun?” You say, shimmying in your seat. Eddie groans and Robin yells yes! Steve only smile as he falls asleep.
.: ⋆*・゚: .⋆
Back at home, Steve is being extra clingy. Kissing your neck and face. He’s still a bit drunk, so you try to give him water and aspirin before he heads to bed.
“Did you know you’re the most beautiful girl in the world? Did you know that?” He asks, you laugh and smile up at him.
“Get some rest, you doofus.” You kiss his cheek and turn off the light.

Do you think Elejah could have worked?
Tumblr media
Y'all aren't going to like this one.
No, I don't and I don't typically even like to think of them as a ship.
First, I think people want to create romantic ships anywhere there is any kind of connection. Elijah clearly is drawn to Elena's innocence and compassion, but to me, it was never romantic. Rather he saw more of Tatia in her and even who he used to be. One reason I never liked Elijah with any doppelganger was because it always just felt like a replacement for his first love. He was trying to hold onto what he lost, which isn't a good foundation for a relationship.
Second, Elijah is my favorite so I like to headcannon that he is above dating minors. All of my favorite ships started with adults. Yes, there are still crazy age gaps but at least with consenting adults. When Elijah met Elena, she was like 17 or maybe 18. While 18 is legally an adult, she was still in high school and very much in a different mindset than Elijah. I know Elijah was attracted to Katherine when she was human, but again, I like to headcannon that she was a little older. It just makes it all less creepy.
But since you asked, I will entertain the thought, but I still don't think they would work.
I personally don't think any crossover from Mystic Falls and New Orleans would work relationship-wise. The Mikaelsons tormented the MF gang. Klaus killed Elena's aunt, her friends, her, etc. By being with Elijah, it would bring her close to Klaus since Elijah would never abandon his family for her.
They also wanted very different things out of life. Elena wanted to live a normal human life. While this is something Elijah may have fantasized about, he would never take the cure and leave his siblings behind. Elena also wanted to stay in Mystic Falls, a place that was far too small and quiet for the Mikaelsons. Elena wanted a quiet human life, something the Mikaelsons would never really have. Choosing to be with Elijah would mean choosing to put herself up against all of their enemies. A quiet life in Mystic Falls would be impossible. Elena would have to sacrifice the life she wanted because we know Elijah wouldn't sacrifice being with his family.
Thanks for the ask! I hope it wasn't a disappointing answer!

Like Nik being so much in love with reader, but she know about what he did to Katarina. So she is mean to him and reject our poor boy all the time (even if she is slowly falling in love with every his sweet acts). Then she found out that her sister is dating Elijah despite what his family did and all this drama. When reader met Klaus at next day she is the one who is asking him for a date (everyone in shock). With fluff and love confession at the end please. 😊 Thank You for your time and really sorry for my English. 😅😅
So I guess I will attend the dance thing | Klaus Mikaelson x Katherine's sister reader
my masterlist ↪M A S T E R L I S T
warnings / other notes ↪
Tumblr media
"Niklaus the great" I scoff to the old man stood before me, "y/n, sweet y/n." my name rolling off his tongue smoothly "I heard my sister escaped your shackles months ago." crossing my arms, acting confident to the defiant man.
"she escaped them years ago, when i found out her beautiful sister existed. I thought you knew." he says, my sister Katerina wasn't always honest with me. But I'd side with her rather than him any day.
"oh, she didn't tell you." he smiles innocently "well i don't need her to tell me" "ah yes because you can figure it all out yourself, i understand." he nods "what do you want Klaus?" I ask him irritated.
"I came to give you a gift actually." he says raising my eyebrows at the words that had just escaped his mouth "a gift?" I repeat his words and he nods calmly.
I walk off a few meters before spinning back around "what gift?" I ask as he reveals the thing behind him, a stunning blue dress that dated back years before I did "I need you to come with me to th-" "no" I look up at him.
Klaus had been pursuing me for months, asking me on dates, gifting me beautiful things, gifting paintings. He offered to kill someone for pursuing me despite doing it himself, he was just adamant that I go out with him at least once. I continue to refuse even if my sister lied to me or didn't tell me things. Family over everything, exactly what he says. But, in a way all this pursuing has actually been affecting me.
I might actually have feelings for him. I hope i have it all wrong but all the signs are telling me something I dread.
My sister and I may have our communication problems, she may have more problems than I do. But, I'd never go out with the one person that chased her away for years and years on end, even if he was dashingly hot and handsomely evil.
"you haven't even heard the catch." he raises and eyebrow "the catch is me going with you, in what universe?" I ask him, inspecting the dress in front of me. "Well I won't take no for an answer." he insists and I nod my head "well you're gonna have to prince of darkness, i have a date with a mirror tonight." I laugh to him.
"well the fact that you haven't left tells me something in you actually wants to attend this with me." he says in a cocky tone, so of course I stroke his ego even more by remaining in the same spot. Not even thinking about leaving.
"What's in it for me?" I ask him, internally hitting myself at the fact I'm even considering going out with this fool. "Well a reputation, a dress and dinner." he says "and..." I say waiting for him to add onto the list "you can come to new orleans with me to pick out your own clothing." he rolls his eyes.
I had told Klaus that I wanted to go to New Orleans and grab a dress from his weird antique collection if I were ever to come with him, and although the dress was stunning I'd rather opt for a colour that would look fitting on me.
"When is it?" I ask him "Tonight" he says and my jaw drops "well then you better book first class" I raise an eyebrow and he scoffs, nodding knowing that he can and he will.
"come on" he says.
at new orleans
"Any pit stops before we get to our final destination, my love?" he asks sneaking in a nickname "we aren't dating, cut it out. just go home." I roll my eyes "as you wish" he says driving us back to his house.
"I don't want to come anymore." I mumble "what?" he says "you heard me" I say cheekily, obviously I should of held off until I got to the dress but it all seemed weird. How would Kathy feel?
I mean I did think of that until I say her out the front of the Mikaelson Mansion with the elder brother kissing him and my jaw dropped, as did Klaus's.
"you do see my sister kissing your brother right?" I say, my jaw remaining on the floor as Klaus nods slowly. My sister was kissing Elijah Mikaelson, in what universe? In what world? Is that even my sister?
Bursting out of the car "y/n, y/n, y/n-" "KATHERINE" slamming the door, my sister scurries behind Elijah and I run up to her "KATERINA" I stomp my foot on the ground, she may have been older than me but I had more authority than she ever did in our family.
Klaus runs up to me, Katerina pokes her head out "you're sleeping with him?" I point to Elijah "No offense of course, I personally had nothing against you... but you." I point to my elder sister, with a betrayed look on my face. Klaus stood next to me silently.
"I fended Klaus off for you, because I thought that it would be respectful since he chased you around the world. Only to find out your sleeping with... his brother." my brain couldn't fathom the events occurring right in front of me... IN PUBLIC.
"I need to sit" I say fanning myself with my hand, walking past the two lovers and into the big house that I had never been in before and walking over to the step immediately sitting down.
Katerina walks up to me "What are you doing with him?" she says, in a whispering tone. "What are you doing with him, I knew you had history, not that kind." I whisper back "But Klaus?" she says "But Elijah?" I retort and she nods.
"I was doing him a favor so he got off my ass, you?" I rub my dome "I love him.". I stand up in disgust "So I guess I will attend the dance thing" trying to shake off the fact that I just caught the eldest Petrova and eldest living Mikaelson kissing.
Klaus walks in smirking "Great" he says "The dresses?" he asks and I nod, he walks past Katerina and I leading me up the stairs and to his room I presume.
I look down to see my sister with a shocked expression, Elijah walks up to her and she whispers "you didn't tell me they were together", Elijah shrugged and I disappeared in the room of the Hybrid
Sitting down on his bed, the image of my sister kissing Elijah running through my mind.
"Gross" I mumble "I'm definitely coming now. I mean she was the only reason I didn't go out with you." standing back up, Klaus kept his eyes on me "Don't overwork yourself love." he insists "THATS GROSS" I yell.
"Look, I have a crush on you. A really stupid crush and I only said no because of what you said to my sister, but soon as my sister is dating your brother... I can't keep it in anymore. I'm in love with you." I say, maybe it was the frustration and disgust at my sister but I knew what I wanted.
"So I will go to this with you, but just know that while we do this. I'm just a girl in love with a boy and I'm doing this as a favour because I love him." I point to him as he laughs at me nodding, "the confession I was waiting for." he says, I give him a death stare "dont take this the wrong way Niklaus, just because I have a crush on you does not mean I won't hit you." I say.
He smirks taking a step back "dont let me stop you love." he says as I stand up, he grabs my hand pulling me towards him and places his lips against mine.

hello Katherine (not your name but it sounds more threatening)
happy Valentine’s Day what did you and Diego do today 🎤
omg HIIII LEO so glad you asked THANK YOU 👁️👁️ i'm answering late bc i was pondering the question, BUT!
in my perfect world we would both have the day off from work so we can be properly cheesy and disgustingly romantic alllllll day. it all starts with diego making us a nice breakfast and me convincing him to risk crumbs in the bedsheets so we can be cozy and have breakfast in bed. afterwards we get ready for the day (showering together ofc, we love saving water!!!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i always have to include outfits bc that's important to me.. he's got his little heels on and i imagine the pants are more high-waisted with a nice belt too.
last year he went all out and showered me with gifts so this year i decided i will be pampering him, which means i've set up mani/pedi, facial, and couple's massage appointments. he's a little bit iffy on the whole thing because he's so particular about taking care of himself and what products he uses so i have to insist to him that he should let someone else do it for a change. it takes some convincing but once he's relaxed he's very much into it LOL
after all that we go to a bookstore and he browses for a little while until he settles on a few books he really wants, which i then buy for him. the plan is for me to pay for dinner too but he's sneaky and surprises me with reservations at a fancy spot downtown, he slips his card to the waiter before i can even think about paying first 💀 but it's candle-lit and cute and we get dessert too 🧡
his sneakiness doesn't end there, though. motherfucker made reservations at a 5-star hotel for the night too. so while i'm ready to go home and fuck around and then go to sleep he's like "nah. me, you, this california king sized bed on the top floor of this hotel in the middle of downtown kc with a beautiful view overlooking the entire city, now." the best part is he already has room service deliver our favorite snacks, perrier for him and dr pepper for me before we even get there.
so we spend the night fucking around, yes, but also we spend a lot of time laying around and talking about life.. the future.. plans for our wedding.. etc etc etc.. it's all very sweet, we're just full of love and happy to exist with each other for the entire day 😭🧡

👻💢🍧🍁🌏📣 💗 for Nikoletta and Katherine? (Sorry it's a lot lol)
Ooooh thank you!! And don't apologize for it being a lot, I love a chance for a good OC ramble :D
OC Emoji Asks
👻 GHOST - do they believe in ghosts? what are their "ghostly experiences", if any?
Nikoletta: No. She's so deep in "haunted history" from her voodoo scam in New Orleans, she's fully convinced it's all a load of shit. Once or twice, she's had an experience that's rattled her a little more, but she'd never admit that.
Katherine: Yes. At this point, she's had so much exposure to magic and gods and other supernatural events, it would be almost stupid to try and claim ghosts couldn't exist when so much else clearly does.
💢 ANGER - what are some habits they have that will take some getting used to?
Nikoletta: She subconsciously tries to control the conversations she's a part of. It's mainly a survival reflex, but she'll duck around questions she doesn't want to answer and try to flip the focus back to the other person instead. It makes extended conversations a little difficult with her, at least at first.
Katherine: She takes on way more projects than she can actually balance, then gets frazzled and scatter-brained about finishing them. If she's bouncing off the walls with some unexplained anxiety, it probably means she's stressing herself over finishing something and can't handle anything else right now - even just suggesting going out for a walk is another thing to think about, so it's best just to let her take the lead for a while.
🍧 SHAVED ICE - do they still have any objects from their childhood? what significance does it have to them? what would their reaction be if they lost it?
Nikoletta: No. She had hardly anything growing up, which already makes it more difficult to hold onto things for sentiment, and on top of that her personal belongings were lost/stolen while she was captive in STAR Labs and she had to start completely fresh once she escaped.
Katherine: Oh, of course! She's got her old comic book collection, a lot of childhood drawings, some stuffed animals... she probably wouldn't be too upset about losing one of those things, shit happens and objects do wear out over time, but it would crush her to lose it all.
🍁 MAPLE LEAF - what is their favourite season? why?
Nikoletta: Early fall. College football and milder weather brings in a lot of tourists, so it's usually her most lucrative few weeks out on the street (it's about the only time of year where she can count on 3 meals a day and a decent roof over her head). And in Belle Reve, the seasons don't matter much since she's effectively always inside
Katherine: Summer. It reminds her of home, and she can't stand how cold New York gets in the winter anyway (especially compared to Memphis)
🌏 EARTH - will they give up the world for someone they love? is this decision easy for them?
Nikoletta: I think she wouldn't realize how attached she is to the person she loves to even make this decision. She's so used to being alone that she's more than a little rusty with having someone to care about like that, so she's more likely just to freeze up entirely.
Katherine: She would, and not even in a romantic-love context. She'd do anything for her friends or family... and actually gets awfully close to this sort of decision in the climax of Who Waits Forever Anyway?. She doesn't give up the world, but she does come awfully close to giving up her life for the people she loves.
📣 MEGAPHONE - how loud are they? what do they speak like? got a voice claim?
Nikoletta: Not very loud. She speaks clearly, but she only speaks when she needs to (in her mind, superfluous chatter makes her seem less powerful or respectable, it breaks the illusion of her being "above" the others). She has a clear New Orleans accent (not Cajun, but Deep South) since she spent her whole life there, and her voice claim is tied to her face claim: Teyonah Parris.
Katherine: A little louder than average, mainly because she gets very exuberant when she's excited. She also has a Southern accent, though hers is a slightly milder Tennessean drawl as opposed to Nikoletta's Deep South. I don't have a particular voice claim for her right now.
💗 GROWING HEART - if they have a crush, is it noticable? what changes when they're in love?
Nikoletta: As I said before, she doesn't really process how much someone means to her since she's spent so much time on her own and putting a mask up over her emotions like she does. Still, though, I think it's obvious to others - when the antisocial ice-queen that is Nikoletta suddenly starts lingering near another random, equally-antisocial prisoner, even performing such bizarre acts as smiling and holding hands, you know something's up.
Katherine: Oh, it's so damn obvious. She's the queen of pining. She doesn't do flings since she's ace, so a genuine crush is a very deep, emotional thing for her. It's very obvious: she's all smiley, she keeps talking about them, her art ends up being a lot more romantic for a while since she's always thinking about them. When she's genuinely in love, she's settled a bit from that whole butterflies-crush stage, though she still talks about her S/O a lot

SEND ME A FANDOM (+ number) AND I WILL TELL YOU: 1, 2, 3, 15, 17 and 18 for TVDU fandom.
SEND ME A SHIP (+ number) AND I WILL TELL YOU: 1, 2, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 14 for Elejah and Klena.
SEND ME A CHARACTER (+ number) AND I WILL TELL YOU: 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 8 and 10 for Elena, Klaus and Elijah.
Thank you so much for this question, I don’t think I’ve ever felt so flattered before. It means a lot to me that you want my opinion/answer on so many questions!
Since these are long, I’m going to answer this in three parts!
Fandom
The moment in the story that I started shipping my OTP from this world?
Well, my OTP is definitely Klena, and I think I started shipping them in episode 11 of season 2. Elena goes to Slater’s apartment to send that message to Klaus - the doppelgänger is alive and ready to surrender. And 14 year old me was immediately like 😍🤭👀. After that, Klaus asking Elena to save a dance for him and all was just….loaded.
Like, even before they met, there were these vibes and I was just in love with them. The way he holds her at the sacrifice, their chemistry during the prank night episode, it definitely got to me. They’ve been waxing and waning in my mind since then.
My three favorite characters and why I love them so much.
The first is, of course, Elena. That very first scene in the cemetery where she’s writing in her diary had me hooked. I was so intrigued by her loneliness and her depression, someone I could identify with, who was so internalised. I’d always felt weird about being an introvert, and Elena was one of the first characters that I identified with. Now, after a decade, I can also identify with her grief, and it’s just that much more personal to me.
The second is Klaus. When he first came on the show, I wasn’t sure what to make of him. I def found him attractive 😅 but I thought there was more to him that I needed to see. I thought, multiple times “what an asshole”, but I could also recognise his loneliness and his fear of being abandoned, and they just resonated with me. By s4 of TVD, I was already in love with him, and followed him onto TO. (That was for Elijah too 🤭)
And third, I think, is Cami. I loved Cami, I saw her as this girl trapped in darkness, and trying to find her way out, until eventually she didn’t want to find a way out anymore. It was nice to see someone who was somewhat ordinary getting trapped between these vampires. The beginning of her relationship with Klaus is so fascinating to me, like she obviously sees him as a tortured soul, while he is actively hurting her through his mind control. But she fights back, and she’s tenacious, she’s probably one of the few people who fights against Klaus’ compulsion and then gets out of it. Refuses to play by his games but also plays him sometimes to get what she wants. Her struggle with vampirism was so, so real, and both her deaths were the saddest I’ve seen in that universe.
Which scene I would like to erase from the universe and why.
Ugh, the entire torture episode. Where Damon and Stefan (the saviours 🙄) both torture Elena to turn her humanity back on. Get Katherine to help too, just disgusting. That episode shows just how much internalised misogyny some of the show runners themselves held.
Which character I would choose for the chopping block if I knew the writers wanted to kill someone?
Probably Matt. Like, I like him well enough, but after a certain point, what does he even bring to the table?
The world-building aspect of the story I have the greatest admiration for.
The Originals for sure! I absolutely love s3 of TVD but s2 is so fucking good. The build up is amazing, first we’re introduced to Isobel, then that Katherine entry (like damn), just when we think she’s the baddest, Elijah shows up and scares the fuck out of Katherine.
And then, this intense build up to Klaus and sun and moon curse, only for us to learn that it was all fake, and to know about the real curse. It’s just…. Brilliant storytelling. Like yes, there are loopholes, and it’s the CW, but it’s just so well paced. I’ll be honest though, once the originals show up, it feels like we go into a different level. So much of the credit for that goes to Daniel and then Joseph, they were both brilliant, and they brought something unique to their roles that made us want to see them more. They elevated every scene they were in and Paul, Nina and Kat were the only ones who could keep up imo, at least in terms of screen presence.
The perfect number of books/seasons/movies needed to tell this story properly.
I think 4-5 seasons were more than enough. I’m not a fan post s4 (and s4 hangs on by a thread).

Find the Word-Go for Broke
@mikaharuka issued a challenge- I mean tagged me. 😉
" You know the drill, I find words, I pass on words (20 this time) that you pick five from... and yes, I know some of you will go for the broke."
I chose to go for broke. Thank you for aiding my procrastination. lol
Words for Me: Cloud, Style, Sweet, Whisper, Table, Answer, Wrong, Doubt, Foreign, Stone, Vine, Spirit, Bloom, Luxury, Bright, Symbol, Allure, Spark, Shower, Heat
Words for you- pick the 5 you like or grab 'em all: reason, undertake, arrangement, quantity, dressing, draft, visit, second, dangerous, go, bless, workshop, pipe, jealous, hilarious, wardrobe, marine, committee, breathe, cast
No pressure tags: @mikaharuka @hylianjo @writingpotato07 @mrsmungus @winterlovesong1 and anyone else feel free to join.
So I'm using both Autumn in Philadelphia books because I know allure is in the first one. lol
Cloud: She did not want her brother, she wanted her father and since she couldn’t have him, she refused to interact with anyone but her mother. It was heartbreaking watching the little girl drape herself over Audrey’s shoulder while crying for Jon. It brought a dark gloomy cloud over Shawn.
Style: Hannigan’s was a cozy little bar and grill joint on the corner of 5th and Grant. It specialized in home style family cuisine, but in the evenings after nine, mixed drinks were the entree of choice.
Sweet: For a sweet moment, the years dissolved away. He lay down on the couch and put his head on the pillow. He felt Audrey’s fingers begin gently massage his scalp. With a happy sigh, he took that hand and kissed her palm before letting go. When he was fifteen and they would watch TV like this, Shawn would daydream that Jon and Audrey were married, and they had adopted him.
Whisper: His head spun, thoughts and emotion swirling at a dizzying rate. “I don’t understand,” he said, his voice barely above a whisper as he tried to sort through everything he thought he knew. “Cory said Jon married his nurse.”
Table: Julia was setting the table with earbuds securely in her ears. She glanced up from her job and locked eyes with him. Her blue-gray eyes held his gaze with an unblinking stare. There was no hint of expression on her face, just an unnerving look that went right through him. The look made him squirm a bit. She went back to what she was doing without a word to him.
Answer: Katherine paced the lobby of the Library anxiously. Eli and the Matthews boy had been running interference all evening with fishy tales of where Jon was and what he was doing every time she asked about him. Every time she called his room, Cory answered with some inane story: there was a spider in the girls’ room, Trini accidentally started a fire, Shawn was drowning in the bathtub. Eventually, Frankie Stecchino let it slip that Mr. Turner was out on the town. He had started to say more when both Eli and Cory jumped on him.
Wrong: “I always he felt like he was cheating on you,” he admitted, feeling foolish in light of the truth but desperate to explain himself. “I was so angry at him, even though he did nothing wrong. I hated every woman he brought home after you left. Everyone I thought he took home after I left.” He hadn’t meant to say that last part out loud. His eyes were wide with unspoken apologies.
Doubt: Audrey had left his side and was standing in front of him, looking at him expectantly.
“Come on, Shawn. Let’s go home.”
He looked up at her, eyes enormous with unspoken vexation and doubt.
“I’m not ready.”
Foreign: The concept of a generational home was a foreign idea to Shawn. Such a thing had never crossed his mind given his transient life from such a young age. Briefly, he wondered if he would ever have anything close to a history like that.
Stone: The trio exchanged greetings near the pair of stone lions that guarded the library entrance. It took a while for them to find a quiet, hidden spot to hole up in in the Main Reading Room, which was about 78 by 297 feet with a 52-foot-high ceiling. Although it was highly unlikely that they would encounter anyone they knew, the group decided it was better to be safe than sorry.
Vine (oh, you got me here, the closest I could get is Divine): Cory backpedaled through the store in a panic while trying to talk the bully down. He prayed for Divine Intervention; he’d lost his parents and friends in the crowd, and it seemed hopeless to find someone willing to help him.
Spirit: “To watch his spirit be broken down day by day,” he chuckled gleefully. “That’s what they do you know, my people. They take the strong-willed, the proud, the favored, and they break them into nothing.”
Katherine shared his delight and laughed. “I’m sure Cory will regret the day he went to Jon about you.”
Bloom: Totally stumped on this one. Couldn't even find it in the short stories.
Luxury (great words! I'll have to substitute with wealth): The Gold Coast was an affluent part of Western Connecticut. The area was home to many wealthy Manhattan business executives and was a bastion of wealth. The Gold Coast was most notable for its expensive waterfront properties located along its shore as well as the proximity of its cities and towns to New York City. Westport, Connecticut was ideally situated near the middle of the Coast.
Bright: “All right,” he said gruffly, his cheeks blazing bright red. He held his hand out to Shawn. “I want the five bucks.”
Shawn’s eyes sparkled with an impish gleam and his shoulders shook with laughter. He looked back and forth between the two on the couch before he gave Jon’s hand a hard slap.
“I don’t have five bucks. I just wanted to see you guys' kiss!”
Symbol: He watched the snow, yellowed with time, fall on the American symbol of freedom. Shawn was everything but free. He felt trapped, like he was imprisoned in a very tiny cell the walls of which were closing in on him.
Allure: A soft rap at the door interrupted his musings. He instinctively glanced up at the clock first; still four minutes to go until his meeting. He turned his attention to the doorway where a girl he didn’t recognize stood. She glanced around the room with wide stormy eyes. She would have looked as though she stepped off the cover of Allure if it hadn’t been for her apparent nervousness. She clutched a couple of folders in front of her
Spark: Well, at least what Minkus said to upset him now made sense. Jon was still baffled that Minkus of all people could spark this kind of reaction out of Shawn when no one else could. Anyone else would’ve come face to face with Shawn’s temper and fist. How in the world could Minkus send Shawn running to his classroom in tears? As far as he knew, the two hadn’t spoken to each other since the end of middle school.
Shower: Julia was sleeping in, so there was no one to fight over the bathroom. He stared at himself in the mirror and made a face. He had the worst case of bedhead. Determined not to go out with Jon looking like he’d stuck his finger in an electric socket, Shawn ended up in the shower. The entire time he worried about what he and Jon would talk about as this was his first outing with the superintendent as an adult.
Heat: Ms. Tompkins wasn't anyone special to him in that regard. Had it not been for her connection to Jon, she would have simply been one more teacher who couldn’t wait to get him out of her class. One he would not have remembered. However, the intense heat of the gaze of the people in the room was formidable and uncomfortable and he felt pressured into formalities he had no interest engaging in.
That was challenging and fun!

"Elijah! Thank god you finally managed to answer your phone!"
"Good Morning to you too, sister," Elijah answered calmly while keeping a close eye on the campus. This one administration building with the large windows upstairs gave a good overview over the grounds that came into question when it comes to Katerina. What happened last night seemed so unreal hours later that he feared it truly had been some kind of fever dream. He had to see her again but without appearing like some kind of stalker. Here, several meters above the ground, he could observe people unrecognized.
"May I ask what's on your mind, sister?" Because he is aware that she doesn't call without a reason.
"Perhaps, brother, even if it apparently seems to surprise you, I missed you?" she retorted, almost sounding offended which caused a little smile to play along Elijah's lips.
"I miss you too, Rebekah. So I assume everything is alright?" Just because he's currently away, doesn't mean he ceases to care about his family home in New Orleans. He regretted missing the first months of his niece's life but he had more pressing matters to attend to.
"Yes – Perhaps. It's difficult"
That reply caused a frown on Elijah's features while still keeping his gaze on the many students who made their way to their lecture halls.
"Please do elaborate."
"Well, we think there's something up with the witches. They've been remarkably quiet lately and are rarely seen. We suspect they plot something. When will you return back home?"
Elijah sighed, his grip tightening slightly around the phone. A new threat against his family is what he had feared, also because he cannot divide himself. He cannot search for Katerina and protect his family.
"What does Niklaus think?" he asked instead, not capable of giving an answer to her question of when he's coming back home.
"Our brother is not very happy with you right now. On the one hand, he wants you to come back, on the other hand, he doesn't want to see you. But he too feels like the witches are plotting something. It would be safer for Hope if you were with us. We are stronger together."
Elijah inhaled, his eyes closing for a second before they snapped open again.
"I love my family, Rebekah. If there is any concrete evidence of a threat, I will return as soon as possible, no matter the current differences with Niklaus. I assure you that I won't let any harm come to my niece if I can avoid it. However,–" he paused, his eyes focusing on a female with a familiar wavy ponytail, "– I can't and won't come because of a mere hypothesis. I cannot leave where I'm currently at."
His eyes followed the female, certain that it was either Maisie or Katerina. Even if he was watching her from a distance, he noticed the differences in her looks. Last night ... last night she looked like how he remembered her. This morning, however, she looked like the person he had seen on the terrace. The clothes she wore were too light for Katerina's current dress style. The ponytail also was something he had never seen on Katerina. And again he questioned if this really was only one person or two. Can she really pretend like that? He didn't doubt her skills but he supposed that it should be much harder now that she was human. His train of thought was interrupted by Rebekah's voice in his ear.
"Please tell me you're on a simple holiday and aren't still busy catching that bothersome doppelgänger."
"I'm busy with ... business," he retorted, his tone a bit too distanced to not notice the difference from his previous tone.
"Brother!", Rebekah hissed quietly on the phone, apparently choosing her words carefully. "If Katherine Pierce is still alive - which I don't believe if I'm honest - the worst you can do is play her shadow. Just think about it, Katherine Pierce is usually not shy to demand things if she wants them. She hasn't asked for your protection and heaven forbids that she will ask for your help. That woman is cunning and will use you. Haven't we had this topic before?"
Elijah was silent because of course his sister was right on some points. He could imagine Katerina trying to take advantage of him in her current situation. However, he would not refuse to help her if she needed it, regardless of their current relationship with each other. In addition, she had the chance to ask for his help although she was admittedly not in a clear state of mind. If she wanted to use him, she would have already tried. But that hadn't happened. Instead, she wanted (or rather expected) him to vanish.
"Elijah, please, I beg you to reconsider your current 'business'." He heard her exhaling on the other end of the line. "Look, I really loath that woman and the fact that she apparently got the cure, but even I know that it's awfully stupid to be anywhere close to her if you want her to stay alive."
"Not long ago, you yearned to be a human, sister. If you had taken the cure, wouldn't you have wanted your family to be around?"
"Of course, I would have wanted that. But there's a difference between her and me. I would have been prepared, I would have wanted to be human. I would have been prepared to say goodbye to you and Nik in order to live a peaceful human life. I would have known about the costs. In addition, you guys would have never left me without protection although I hope you wouldn't keep watching me like a hawk. Gosh, Nik probably wouldn't have let me out of his sight after he calmed down because of my choice. But with her it's different. There are many people who want her dead and you impossibly can keep an eye on her the entire time. If Nik finds out that Katherine Pierce is alive and human, and the reason you ignore us, she's more than dead. Elijah! If that woman is indeed alive, stay away from her!"
His sister's words weren't what he wanted to hear and the tension in his muscles grew. The last he wanted to be is a threat, although he is aware of the risks. Part of why he's so eager on keeping Klaus away.
"I'll keep it in mind, sister. If the situation in New Orleans gets worse, let me know. Until then, take good care of you and our family." With these words, Elijah ended the phone call just as the doppelgänger entered a building and therefore was out of sight.
▬ xxx ▬
Even if he didn't want to admit it, the phone call with Rebekah kept him occupied all day. Of course, he had considered that he would not make the whole story better if he just showed up and drew attention to her changed way of life. One of the reasons why he didn't just show up and talk to Maisie/Katerina.
His approach should be well considered and although he wanted to talk to the doppelganger, he now had doubts about whether it was a good decision in general. What if he really messed up her life too much? Apart from the fact that he didn't know if Katerina wanted to see him at all - her reaction last night was very ambiguous - he could not estimate whether it would be for her good.
For these reasons, he decided to show restraint until he was clear about how to proceed. In addition, contrary to his previous plans, he stayed in the administration building until the reading was finished and the students poured out of the building where Maisie/Katerina had gone into. That way he would at least keep a safe distance.
He had not been idle during that time, of course. He had asked George to arrange for Maisie to get the desired health insurance. He owed that to Eleanor Williams. Without her, he wouldn't be here – no matter the outcome.
In the crowd, which unfortunately went out of the building almost simultaneously, it was difficult to find an individual. Especially if you only had a view from above in a few decameters distance. Nevertheless, he stayed patiently at the window and let his attentive gaze wander over the various heads - for as long as he actually found her.
The initial smile disappeared from his lips when he spotted the young man at her side from the day before. Although he did not want to, he felt a hint of jealousy. He knew it was nonsensical, that he had no basis for it, but he was very unhappy with the idea that his Katerina had found interest in an ordinary person.
Of course, he knew he should be happy for her. A relationship with a person showed that she was not at odds with her fate. And didn't he want every vampire to have access to their humanity? That they didn't forget or betray human principles? Shouldn't he be glad that Katerina (or Maisie) seemed to live out what he wanted for others?
Strangely, this was difficult for him when it came to people who were close to him. He remembered the phone call with his sister and the phase (which probably still existed) in which she desperately wanted the cure. Although he would have welcomed any other vampire to have the opportunity to abandon vampirism, he could not deny that he found it difficult to feel the same when it came to his own sister.
It was selfish, he was well aware of that, but he didn't want to lose Rebekah to natural death at some point. He didn't want to imagine what it would be like if her natural lifespan was coming to an end. In the end, however, he would have accepted it, just because it was what would have made his sister happy - as long as she was really sure it was what she wanted. He still doubted that being human could solve all of her problems and desires.
He could challenge his sister's decision, but he had to accept Katerina's decision.
His eyes followed the couple, the man unknown to him had his arm around her waist. The two meandered skillfully through the crowd until they were welcomed by two other women. They seemed to converse briefly before the four of them set themselves in motion and finally disappeared behind a building - and thus out of his field of vision.
▬xxx▬
Hours had passed since he last saw the doppelganger. The more time he had, the more time he had to think about everything, and the longer he thought, the more he doubted his own mind.
Logically and rationally, there can only be one doppelganger, and Maisie's existence has been proven in many ways. She had a family, especially a grandmother who had even set up a room for her at home. She had documents proving that Maisie Williams was officially enrolled at this university. She seemed to fit into the social structure without any problems. Nothing, really nothing, indicated that Maisie Williams was not real.
"But what was that than last night?" asked his heart, which should actually have no opinion.
Could it really be that he had become so lost?
The sun had long since disappeared behind the horizon and Elijah knew he should go back to his hotel. He also knew it would be more efficient if he got his things and found a hotel in Columbia. Closer to the university, closer to her, or rather closer to the reflection of her.
He had already come into the dubious pleasure of meeting several doppelgangers, all were similar to each other, of course. But while they are similar, they are also different from each other. It started with the color of their eyes, which all seemed to have a different shade of brown. It continued with their hair, which all had an almost identical shade, but had a different hair structure. It ended with the sometimes very different personalities and self-perception, none of which were identical to the other. No one is an exact copy. They are different. Their own person. Linked to each other but still individual beings.
Maisie Williams was completely different from Katerina (or even Elena). Maybe it was only the hairstyle that Maisie seemed to prefer, maybe it was the light, almost pastel-colored clothes, which are so different from the usual dark and strong colors of Katerina's clothes.
So why, despite all of his experience, was he so sure that Maisie is a role Katerina had taken?
Could it be that he did not want to acknowledge the truth?
Was he so determined in his attempts to find someone who perhaps did not want to be found that he wasn't able to admit defeat?
Shouldn't someone like him already have come to a successful completion? After all, he had been looking for months for a person who was human for the first time in half a millennium and could no longer resort to her supernatural powers. Even if Katerina was an impressive and very clever personality, she should not be able to hide in the long run. Especially not after he learned about her condition at the hospital.
Or should he, perhaps, see it quite differently?
Shouldn't he be content with the knowledge that Katerina apparently - fortunately - was still alive? After all, the hospital and later Caroline Forbes had confirmed to him that it was Katerina with whom they had contact.
Should he perhaps consider his sister's words that Katerina would find a way to contact him if she really needed his help? Although he no longer trusted that she would. To be honest, he had already disappointed her too often, albeit partly unknowingly.
As he crossed the paths of the campus, he tried to order his mind.
What should he do? What was the right decision?
His once clear goal seemed incredibly blurry and vague.
Even if Maisie - despite all the odds - was actually Katerina, should he actually try to interact with her? Should Maisie really be a very clever and incredibly amazing fake, should he interfere? Maisie seemed content and happy, after all.
Moreover, even if he did not want to accept it, he had to be careful that his motivation was not driven by guilt or regret. He also had to be careful that his complex feelings for this woman did not prevail in his decisions. Only Katerina's well-being should come first.
Subconsciously, his feet had carried him to the fountain where he had met Katerina the evening before. At least he thought he had. Like the night before, this place was moderate to barely visited and Elijah decided to remain at this place for a while.
His eyes rested on the water surface of the fountain as he increasingly doubted his mind. He couldn't have been imagining what had happened last night, could he? And yet he remembered the episodes in the hotel and hospital where he had imagined himself smelling her blood. Having it stuck to his hands. The realization that his mind was actually able to play such bad tricks on him frightened him.
Elijah took a deep breath and shook his head over himself.
He in particular should know how dangerous it was when feelings came into play. That those kinds of strong feelings are able to make his head spin and are able to stop his rational thinking.
And yet he simply could not act otherwise.
He decided - although he feared it was a bad idea - to sit on one of the benches by the fountain.
Maybe he hoped that she would show up again, that he had a chance to offer his help. If she didn't want it, he would accept it, but she would at least know that the option existed.
Besides, and he only now remembered it again, he had to give her something back that belonged to her. Something she may have already missed: Her daylight necklace.
At the moment, he didn't have it with him, but in case of need, he could also send her a messenger or find another solution to give her the necklace back without actually having to show himself if he comes to the conclusion that it would be better not to meet her. Although for that to happen, he'd first need to locate Katerina (and not Maisie).
Why did the whole situation have to be so ambiguous?
Elijah leaned back on the bench and ignored the cold of the wood underneath him. If only the whole situation were clearer...
Even though he didn't know why, actually considered it pointless, Elijah took his mobile phone out of the inside pocket of his jacket. His instinct before his conscious thinking knew what - or rather who - he was looking for in his phone. He slightly frowned when he saw the contact 'Kaitlyn Sawyer'.
He knew it was pointless to call her, but he just wanted to hear her voice again. Making sure she was actually still out there somewhere, even though he knew she didn't seem to be using that number anymore. Otherwise, she would have reacted to his message in her mailbox, right?
He stared at his display for some time before actually calling 'Kaitlyn Sawyer'.
It took some time until it connected and started ringing before he was led to the mailbox, just as he expected – perhaps even hoped for. If the telephone company were to shut down her number, he would be deprived of the only way to hear her voice.
"Hello. I'm currently not available and my time's precious, so whoever this is, make it short."
It beeped - the sign that he could now take his message - and yet he was surprised for a moment. What did he want to tell her? What should he tell her?
"Katerina...it's me, Elijah. You probably lost access to this number or perhaps you simply don't wish to talk to me. I- I hope that you are okay. I miss you, Katerina. I want to do right by you. If- If there is any way for you to ... to send me a sign that I'm on the right way, I'd be thankful to detect it."
He is no one who usually believed in signs, but in this case, he hoped there would be a sign.

Elijah doesn't know how much time has passed. He knew, however, that it was time to leave - firstly because it was already very late and secondly, because it became noticeably colder. The seasons passed into the first harbingers of spring, yet the breath still left small white clouds. Nevertheless, he enjoyed the cool air that made him realize that all this was real, that he was not trapped in a dream. That he didn't chase any illusion - at least depending on how you took it.
One of the tower bells of the campus - probably one of the main buildings - just struck midnight. It was a dull yet dignified tone that quietly echoed through the almost perfect silence. Of course, his sensitive hearing could note that the chime was not the only sound. There were still some people roaming through the paths of the campus; laughing and chattering but they were not in this corner of the park and therefore ignorable.
Elijah closed his eyes and focused on the sound of the bell. Not on the often annoying people, but on a sound that had consistency.
Bells – no matter if found in a church or town hall or even on the deck of a ship - are timeless classics. They exist in one form or another in almost every century, giving them something ancient. Their purpose was manifold.
They called people to pray or warned of danger, proclaimed peace, or celebrated solemn events. Sometimes it was as simple as showing that another hour had passed.
The last reverberation of the bell was fading away, a steadily quieter hum. And before you knew it, the sound was gone, as if it had never existed, how small some fascinations could be-
"Elijah?"
This so familiar voice seemed to have appeared out of nowhere, and Elijah opened his eyes abruptly.
As if the sound of midnight had conjured up a spell, he now found a well-known woman a few meters away from him. He admittedly had to blink once to make sure that he had actually snapped back to reality after his previous brooding over bells.
Even if she looked different than he actually knew her - she was wearing a half-opened parka whose hood she had pulled over her head - it was definitely her. A few curls spilled out from the hood which seemed to be partly still moist and she carried a few bags of several kinds of foods in her arms. Chips and cookies as far as he could identify. An unusual choice, as he could not remember that Katerina had ever shown interest in such things.
As if it were an automatism, Elijah stood up from the bench and smoothed his coat, his eyes fixed on her all the time.
"Do you need help carrying?", he offered; a reflex of his helpfulness and possibly the best he could say without making a mistake. Especially when you look at the complicated situation. And yet...
She had known him by name, it had to be Katerina.
As if to reinforce his train of thought, his most ardent presumption, she gazed at him with a puzzled but yet questioning look.
"No ... yes ... perhaps. Are you really here?" She questioned and knitted her eyebrows together as if she didn't trust her own eyes. "If this is some kind of first sign for starting ... delusions, I definitely am going to quit. I didn't even drink today" She shook her head as if she wanted to underline her words.
Despite Katerina's obvious suspicions of this current situation, Elijah was almost overjoyed by this turn of events. She could remember him and she seemed to remember their interaction the previous night. Surely that only means one thing: This truly is Katerina!
Although he knew better, he could not resist the unconscious attraction she had to him. He walked towards her and carefully reached out a hand, an offer that he actually wanted to help her carry the various foods she currently had stacked in her arms.
"I assure you I'm not a product of your imagination, Katerina. It seems like I wasn't capable of 'poofing' in the morning as you had wondered about last night." He offered her a careful smile because, on the one hand, he wanted to calm her, on the other hand, he wanted to help her understand that she had not imagined him. "And I can help you with your purchases if you want to. Before the top half slides to the ground."
The brunette raised an eyebrow before she allowed him to help her. As always, he was careful not to cross any boundaries hence why he asked if she even wanted his help.
"How- how are you here?", she questioned and made it obvious that she truly seemed to be surprised by his presence.
"The short yet truthful version? I was looking for you." And now that he could finally talk to her and had the certainty that she really could only be Katerina, he felt incredible happiness. A feeling that warmed him from the inside and put him in a state of excitement.
"Why?" It was the suspicion in her voice that dimmed his excitement. As if she couldn't believe that he would indeed do such a thing. As if she deemed it entirely impossible. It only showed how much he had hurt her. What his not entirely thought-through decision had caused.
"Because the biggest mistake was to leave you with the apparent belief that you mean nothing to me. Something that has never been true and something that I deeply regret. It had never been my intention to look like I didn't care about you. In addition, you tried to reach me, but I was not able to answer." All the while Elijah spoke, the impression in his eyes grow softer. He had never thought he would make such a declaration shortly after midnight with a bag of chips in his hands. But he needed her to know that she means a lot to him; that he could never treat her like she didn't matter to him anymore.
Katerina tilted her head before turning her gaze away. "These times are long gone. What happened then is over. You didn't have to come here."
Of course, Elijah didn't expect everything to be all right if he just formally apologized to her for his mistakes. Nevertheless, her obvious rejection hurt him and made him feel like she stabbed him with her words alone. Perhaps he had hoped and had counted too much on the fact that she would be capable of recalling their conversation the previous night. About how he didn't want to hurt her, about how much he still likes her. About his admission that he had been a coward for leaving the way he did. But apparently, the saying about drunk people speaking the truth is indeed true. Last night, she had acted devasted about his past choice to leave and she had voiced her doubts about his return openly. If that's what she felt yesterday, then it's what she still feels now.
"I know that I can't make up to it with my appearance alone, and I know I'm, unfortunately, quite too late. But I do mean what I say. If you need me, I'll be there. Even if it's just for something as little as helping you carry your food."
Katerina raised her vision and looked at him again, apparently considering his words. He could tell that she was still suspicious and mistrustful. While she did so, he remained silent and still, wanting her to give her the space of making a decision. Although he wasn't fond of the possibility, Elijah had told himself that he would leave if that was what she desired.
A little sigh escaped her lips, for a moment leaving a tiny white cloud in the air. "If I ask you to try these chips you hold in your hand just to check if they're still edible, would you do it?"
This question seriously caught Elijah by surprise because out of all possible requests or things she could voice, she asked him to try the chips? Apparently, Katerina could see the confusion on his face because she raised an eyebrow and added: "They're out of a vending machine. I don't know how long they've been in there and I don't want to get a stomach ache, nausea, or worse."
"I admit I have never tried chips before ... am I supposed to detect a difference?" He looked at the inconspicuous bags in his hand and is almost certain that they have an expiration date one could check. Actually, it was almost incomprehensible why he had never tried something as simple as chips in his life. It had not occurred to him to even consider it.
"They will be soft or taste rancid. I'd also be careful if they have an unnatural color," she pointed out, appearing to have made her experience with expired food which gave him a feeling of unease for what she presumably had to endure in the past couple of months.
"If that is what you want me to do, I will try them for you."
This answer seemed to make her genuinely happy which left him wondering why she was so keen to have these chips. When did she develop a liking for such food? Though he wouldn't even call it food. It was a gap filler, something in between proper meals.
"Great. So... are you going to try them? It's getting cold out here and I'm really hungry."
As if her body wanted to confirm her words, he could hear her stomach growling and see her shifting from one foot to the other.
"Are you sure that's the right option if you want to go to sleep without getting a stomach ache?" Elijah asked but did as she told and placed the bags on top of the wall of the fountain before he took one of them and tore it effortlessly open. "As far as I can recall, vegetables which are rich in dietary fibre, vitamins, minerals, and complex carbohydrates are good to eat before one goes to sleep. Or alternatively, unsalted nuts, yogurt, curd, cottage cheese, crispbread, warm broth, or even dark chocolate can help overcome hunger." Things that would ease the hungry feeling and help her fall asleep. He isn't sure if chips can achieve that or if it will result in something like acid reflux.
Nonetheless, Elijah reached into the bag and took out one of the slightly greasy chips. He cannot say that he liked the texture it leaves on his skin. It made him want to wash or at least clean his hands. He did, however, led to his lips and tried it. It was ... crispy and noticeably salty. Probably exactly what good chips should taste like.
While he tried the chip, Elijah could note that Katerina was watching him closely. Either to catch every of his reaction or to see if he indeed had eaten that thing.
Knowing that she was expecting his final findings, he finally told her that the chips were still edible. Katerina took this as an opportunity to put the bags she was carrying next to the ones she had already handed over to him on the fountain wall and to take the opened chip pack from his hand. She reached into the package and fished out a few chips before eating them with relish.
After she had swallowed, she immediately took the next swing out of the bag, but before she ate it, he was again part of her attention.
"Should I be surprised why you know what's good for a midnight snack?" She raised an eyebrow before continuing to eat while still waiting for an answer.
"I was inevitably occupied with this topic the last few months." After all, at least one had to pay attention that the pregnant person was well cared for in her household. This included providing the necessary food. In addition, he had of course dealt with it again intensively after he had learned that Katerina had become human. He wanted to be helpful, after all.
"Well, there's something like comfort food, a guilty pleasure, it doesn't have to be healthy, it has to serve its purpose – and of course, don't ruin me with food poisoning. In addition, I just happen to have no access to the things you have recommended. It's the middle of the night, and now only bars are open." She looked at him as if she had just stated the most obvious things.
Maybe he's indeed a little out of touch. Elijah had to admit that he hasn't occupied himself with restaurants that are potentially open during this time of the day - or rather night. Especially in reach within a campus.
And yet, although he could not estimate how she would react, an idea matured in his mind. One way he could spend more time with her, while at the same time could prove that he was serious about his words.
"If you want, I could try to find an open restaurant where you get a real meal. I'm here by car, so it wouldn't be a problem to drive you anywhere, just tell me what you want."
"And leave my laboriously collected booty here?" Her tone did not sound enthusiastic.
"No, of course not, I can help you get them safely to a place of your choice." He suspected that even if they seemed to consist only of chips and cookies, she would want to bring her achievements into her premises. He already knew that she lived very close to this park.
"You seem to be really serious about this," she finally realized in surprise and rolled up the opening of the chip bag so that no air could go into the package, therefore, making sure they'll stay crispy.
"Why shouldn't I be serious, I'd do anything for you, Katerina." And he hoped she would believe him at some point.
The brunette pursed her lips and seemed to consider his offer while appearing as if she'd weigh the pros and cons.
"If I, theoretically, agree do you promise that this will not be a kidnapping and you will bring me back here?" Although her words were most likely not serious, he felt fundamentally hurt by her allegation. "And I assume that's an invitation, right? So I'm assuming you'll cover all the costs? Not that you expect a share in the fuel costs at the end."
"I assure you that this is no kidnapping attempt of any sort and I'll bring you back whenever you wish to be brought back. I also do not expect you to share any costs. This will be, of course, an invitation at my expense." He is a gentleman after all, and certainly wouldn't expect her to pay after he had invited her even if she weren't in the position of most likely not really having money at hand.
"I consider it." This reply of her caused Elijah to frown slightly because her previous interested tone suddenly switched to an indifferent one and he wasn't entirely sure what caused that change. Had he said something wrong? Did he accidentally insult her by inviting her to dinner? "Are you going to help to carry now?"
A quick nod followed her request before he got the many bags of snacks she had purchased. He considered this a good option and was glad that she accepted his previous request because the light in this place was sparse and he didn't want her to trip because she didn't see where she was stepping because of the bags of chips. "Tell me where I should bring them?"
Katerina eyed him for a moment before she said "In my room, of course. They're only useful there. Come."
As if it were a matter of course, Katherine walked past him and hinted at following her. In one hand she held the already opened bag of chips, with the other she began to rummage around in the pocket of her parka after some time. He watched her silently, but still interested, as he followed her. She seemed to have no concern that she had him in her back and therefore could not see him. He grasped this in such a way that he hopefully did not pose a threat to her. Something which should be a positive sign, right?
At some point, she had found what she seemed to be searching for in her pocket, and he could hear the clanging of a keychain. After a short time, they had reached the four-story, neo-classical building in which she probably lived – at least it was the same place she had vanished into last night. He didn't really know if he should follow her in or is even able to, but he decided to take the chance. She chose the left of the two symmetrical staircases that led up to the entrance of the building, and he followed her quietly until they reached the entrance gate.
Before he could even think about what would come, whether he could even be prevented from stepping in by a potential protective spell, Katerina had already turned around and extended her arms after she had unlocked the gate.
"You can give me the bags now." And after the handover happened, she let him know: "Wait here, I'll be right back."
And then she was gone - without even waiting for an answer on his part. He stepped away from the entrance gate to the parapet to let his eyes wander over the grounds, of course, he would wait.
At the same time, however, in her absence, he remembered the conversation with his sister. Doubts overcame him about whether it would be a good idea to be seen with Katerina in public and to go to a restaurant with her. He didn't want to draw attention to her, but she seemed to be really hungry. He could not leave her to such an unhealthy and for her atypical snack like chips. She needed a proper meal even if it were only a good soup to still her hunger and let her sleep peacefully afterward.
His thoughts were interrupted by two guys coming out of the building and lighting a cigarette outside. However, nothing of Katerina could be seen yet. He changed his current position so that the terrible smoke of the cigarettes did not capture him, but remained in direct view.
Now was definitely not the time to worry, especially after she had already announced that she'll be right back. He would just have to be very careful.
While he was waiting, he was already looking for restaurants on his phone that were not too far away and were still open. He also instructed George to control the area, just to be sure.
After another 20 minutes had passed, he slowly began to wonder if she would bail on him. Meanwhile, it was just before one o'clock and the two guys with their cigarettes were already back in the warm. Nevertheless, he would of course continue to wait and not move from his spot, although he considered whether it would make sense to get the car so that she would only have to get in. This would mean, however, that he had to leave this place which he definitely cannot do. Not if she could be back at any moment.
He waited and waited; not moving away from the spot where she had left him. Every now and then, even if it happened very rarely, other residents came by and either left or entered the building. When the first option was the case, he always automatically straightened and couldn't help that hopeful look on his features.
But when the clock hit 2 am, he had to face the truth that Katerina had decided against having a meal in a restaurant. A fact that was very disillusioning for him. He had been a fool for believing she would want to have a very late dinner with him. He should have known that that that was too much to ask.
Elijah wiped his hand over his face before he pinched the bridge of his nose.
Stupid. So incredibly stupid. He had been too intrusive and really believed he would have chances for a proper talk. To show that he cares. That he was terribly sorry for how things had turned out. Stupid.
In addition, her rejection hurt to a certain point. Not that he was in a position to complain but he really had believed - hoped - that he was on the right path. How else is he supposed to take the right steps?
▬ xxx ▬
In the following days - weeks - Elijah had withdrawn. He still drove to campus every day but kept his distance from any possibility of crossing Katerina's path. Rather, he had decided to be a silent observer while sorting his thoughts.
He investigated the last evening they had met, over and over again, just to get the same result every time: In the end, Katerina didn't want any further contact.
'These times are long gone. What happened then is over. You didn't have to come here,' were her words.
Of course, there was a small, overly optimistic voice in him that told him that there could be other reasons for her not showing up. Even a very simple one: Maybe she just fell asleep.
And even if this was within the realm of possibility, he felt like a stupid idiot to hope for it.
Didn't he say he would accept any of her decisions? Even if it meant she didn't want any more contact with him?
Why couldn't he do that now?
It was surprisingly difficult to decide what to do now.
Be happy that she seemed to be well? Accept the rejection? Should he be content with having tried? Or should he not give up yet? Show her that his apology was indeed serious (although he had no idea what else to do without questioning her decision)? What if he gave up too soon? If this were another mistake on his part? But what if she felt pressured by his presence? If she really didn't want him around anymore?
No matter how many times he asked himself these questions, he didn't know the answer.
Sometimes he couldn't help but quietly observe her whenever he saw her on campus. He saw her with - what he assumed - her friends, with the young man who for Elijah's taste kept too little distance from her. Sometimes he also saw her with a blond woman who did not seem to belong to the other group, but with whom she seemed to get along well.
Once, unexpectedly (and unintentionally), their paths had almost crossed and he is sure that she must have noticed him. But there was no realization from her reaction, but it was as if he were air for her, one of many.
Of course, he took this as an opportunity to have doubts again about the whole Katerina / Maisie situation. However, he was sure that Maisie was actually Katerina - even if he still did not know how she had done it. What good is it to question everything again?
He knew only one thing with absolute certainty: he loved this woman and he wanted her to be happy, no matter what that meant for him.

▬▬ xx ▬▬ ▬▬ xx ▬▬ ▬▬ xx ▬▬ ▬▬ xx ▬▬ ▬▬ xx ▬▬ ▬▬ xx ▬▬
A/N: And that’s it, I hope you enjoyed it. I personally found the idea of a 'test of courage' for Elijah, which is something common for every normal person, very amusing.
What do you think, will Elijah try again to contact Katherine directly? Or will he keep his distance and withdraw?
Please consider leaving feedback (even if it's just a <3) as it keeps my muse for writing alive. Thank you ♥

Can you do Langris for the song game?
Hi anon! Yes, I would absolutely love to include Langris in the song game! Thank you for asking! 💙
I'll be honest and tell you that my Langris Vaude playlist (linked here if you're curious/interested in more songs that make me think of him) has 35 songs on it so it was a bit difficult to narrow it down, but I've allowed myself three (which is probably more than you bargained for 😅). For this ask, I've chosen "I Wasn't Ready" by BANNERS, "Price of Perfection" by Katherine Lynn-Rose, and "Three" by Sleeping At Last.
Links to the songs (Spotify and YouTube) and discussion are below the cut because this got very lengthy. [Warnings: vaguely mentions Langris' childhood trauma and insecurities].
"I Wasn't Ready" by BANNERS was released around the time I was binging Black Clover and has always made me think of Langris, particularly in that moment when Finral "declares war" on him and his entire identity and sense of self and purpose starts to unravel. I think, in that moment, Langris kind of has this identity crisis and feels like his brother is ripping the rug out from under him in a way because for Langris it's not that his brother is just trying take the title to their House, it's really like he's stealing Langris' whole life and his whole identity. Langris derives his entire sense of self and self-worth from his achievements and from perfectly living up to the role of 'perfect son,' successful magic knight, and heir to House Vaude—without those things who is he? Who is he supposed to be? I'm not sure if Langris knows the answer.
Of course, Finral isn't actually trying to steal Langris' life, but I really think that's what it feels like for him: "the right life [suddenly] going wrong" or a "tightrope swinging" or a "lifeboat sinking"--as if everything Langris thought he knew about himself and his life is falling apart and he "wasn't ready" for it. However, I also think it is really a turning point for Langris' character since it forced him to confront himself in a way that he hadn't before and leaves him questioning what it is that he wants and who he even is if not the "perfect son" and the heir to House Vaude. To me, this song really captures that feeling of crisis that Langris was experiencing at that moment (and the ones that followed as he’s left picking up the pieces), and I especially love the beginning of the second verse: "They never teach you the fall/When they're building you up/When it starts to rain/There's nothing to save you from the flood."
youtube
I've also included "Price of Perfection" by Katherine Lynn-Rose (which was actually one of the inspirations for "Wine Therapy" because it makes me think of Langris on such a deep level). I think that one of Langris' biggest fears is never being enough. He wants to live up to his parents' expectations because he is desperate for their love and thinks this is the only way to get it, but he always falls short. (i.e. "Tell me why I crave your affection/ When excellence is expected/ Praise is a luxury"). Like I mentioned above, I really think he derives his sense of self-worth from his accomplishments and from perfectly living up to the roles he was assigned as the heir to the House of Vaude (i.e. "Why do my achievements define me?/ Why does life feel so d*mn confining?/ When success is respected/There’s no room for mediocrity"), but he can never truly be "perfect" which leaves him jaded, wounded, and deeply insecure. Langris's perfectionism and desperate desire to live up to his parents' expectations in order to "earn" their love comes at a heavy price, and I think this song captures the pain and frustration of that extremely well.
If I could just put all of the lyrics to "Three" by Sleeping at Last in this post, I would, because this song just screams Langris to me, but I'll pick just a few of my favourite lines to discuss:
"It’s so exhausting on this silver screen/Where I play the role of anyone but me": Like I mentioned above, Langris plays all of these roles (the 'perfect son,' the heir to House Vaude, a well-respected noble, a powerful mage, a successful magic knight ect.), and if you asked him to describe himself I think those are the type of descriptors he would use, the things he does or the roles he plays. Since he believes his worth comes only from his accomplishments, he doesn't know who he is without them. He is what is expected of him, and that doesn't give him the freedom to know and to be who he is. I think it weighs very heavily on him that he has to hide himself under this mask of “perfection,” and it really is exhausting to try and fail to live up to his parents’ expectations over and over.
"Maybe this trophy isn’t real love/And with or without it, I’m good enough": Speaks to Langris's warped perception of love as something to be "earned" by living up to expectations, being successful and being "perfect." It is hard for him to imagine that he would be "worthy of love" just as he is. Because he is so ashamed of all the ways he has fallen short and has not been "enough," he has never allowed himself to be vulnerable and has never had the opportunity to be loved for who he is. There's a deep pain and loneliness in that which I think this song [and that frame of Langris in his dark subconscious, which is one of my personal favourites] illustrates very beautifully. However, I think this what he desperately wants (if he was very being completely honest with himself): the real, unconditional love didn't receive as a child, and I want this for him too.
I love this song for him because though it is sad, it is also hopeful. There is a sense that it is about realising that there is more to a person than their accomplishments--that everyone has an inherent worth and value just for being human. I hope that one day, Langris will be able to "set aside the highlight reel/ And leave [his] greatest failures on display" and really believe that he is "worthy of love anyway." 💙

1, 25, 29 for the asks?
(in response to this post; THANK YOU for asking and sorry for taking so long to respond!)
wow, these questions do not pull their punches huh! okay i guess my answers would be:
1: what are 3 things you’d say shaped you into who you are?
i'm so glad this question doesn't say THE three things or THE MOST IMPORTANT three things or i would be sitting here from now until doomsday. however if i just get to pick three things on a whim then:
unfortunate as it may be, i'd feel dishonest if i didn't say reading harry potter at age 6. it was unquestionably the thing that made me go "i want to do that, i want to tell stories like that". like i can pinpoint the point at which baby cicely said "i want to be a writer" and it was, like, the day after reading philosopher's stone for the first time.
visiting the llŷn peninsula at age... i wanna say 10? this did not necessarily set me on the path towards being a Welsh Nerd but it DID start me on the path towards being a Hill Enthusiast. i can literally remember the drive in as it got darker and darker, seeing those huge hills looming out of the distance and feeling like i was possessed by something bigger than myself. we'd been before but something about this particular drive (and also coldplay blasting on the car speakers as we went) feels formative to me
you know what? running across katherine by anya seaton in a holiday cottage in northern ireland in 2009. the book itself did not leave a deep imprint on my psyche but it did make me aware of the existence of julian of norwich and THAT is still shaping my psyche even now
25: fave season and why?
i'm always torn between spring and autumn, but spring, i think. i love autumn rain and spring rain equally (rain is an important factor to me in a season, i am a rain stan) but spring rain comes with that feeling of softness and clear air, and also in spring i get to track the passage of time by which flowers come out when, and that's important to me.
29: what do you do when you’re sad?
depends if i can muster the executive function to self-soothe effectively. if no, then the answer is basically "lie in bed, scroll on phone". if yes, then i might watch a favourite video, reread a beloved childhood book, take myself out to a cafe for a mildly fancy overpriced lunch item which i did not have to cook, or - a fun new technique which i've been working on for the past couple of years - tell a friend or family member and be comforted and hear another human voice. i know! radical!
and at all times repeat unto myself the mantra, "in two weeks we'll have different problems". that one hasn't failed me yet.

Chapter Twenty: You And Me Against The World
In his absence, Kate awoke to find herself alone in (Y/n)'s bed, yet she was appreciative of his kindness that he tucked her in. Her eyes and landed on the familiar set of clothing and toothbrush rested on the end of the bed. Tiringly, Kate rubbed her eyes and sat up, shuffling back so that her back was now rested against the bedframe and the wall. Even after a decent sleep, Kate still felt exhausted a full minute later.
She grabbed her phone out from her pocket and scrolled through social media to see what she could occupy herself with. It then came to her curiosity and angst about the viral spread of her infamous video where Kate investigated the number of shares spread across social media by the people at Blackwell.
The regularly amassed numbers who would keep the video still fresh and alive decreased exponentially. Then, Kate noticed a message notification pop up. She'd received two separate messages: one from Max, and one from (Y/n). She chose to read Max's message first as she was eager to see what one of her most faithful friends had said to her.
Max Hi Kate! I hope you're feeling okay after everything that's happened How was your date with (Y/n)? You gotta tell me what happened :D Just wanted to check up on you, see how you were going Love Max C.
The delightful message certainly made Kate's day by reading the sincerity and care from her dear friend, Max. She made an immediate response, thanking her for her thoughtfulness in checking up on her wellbeing before moving on to read (Y/n)'s message keenly.
(Y/n) Hey sweetheart! I'm terribly sorry to disturb you because I know you needed your sleep But I was just wondering if you wanted a jelly sandwich instead of PB&J? They're all out I'm afraid so I just wanted to see if you were cool with jelly I needed a break so I decided to get us something to eat
Words could not express her gratitude towards (Y/n). From spoiling her with a delightful breakfast to spending time at the beach, this certainly put the cherry on top. Her heart fluttered with abundance of joy and love as she gave one-worded response. Kate checked the time and saw that it was a quarter past six, proven by how low the sun was setting. Unfortunately, her mood was ruined when she received a phone call that she saw was from her mother.
"Hello, mother," greeted Kate warmly.
"Katherine. How are you this evening?" Her mother responded icily.
"I'm good. Already dressed and ready for bed."
"Listen, your father and I just wanted you to know that we love you, sweetheart. And I'm... I'm so sorry for how I've been treating you lately. It took me a while - and your father's strenuous dedication to get me and your aunty - to accept what happened: to realise that you... that you have always been my and your father's little girl."
Her mother's sentimental call brought atonement for the lack of comfort she and the rest of Kate's family were supposed to provide when Kate was in her worst case of depression.
"How are things over there?" Kate's mother asked.
"Things are good," Kate answered confidently.
"Have you found a boyfriend yet? Your father and I were just discussing the other night and we were hoping that you can come home for dinner next week."
Kate's guard was down when her mother asked her such a question she wasn't at all prepared for, let alone considered to face anytime soon.
"Oh, umm... u-umm, y-y-y-y-yes...?"
"Really? What's his name then?" Her mother questioned sceptically.
"D-uhh... uhmm... (Y-Y/n). (Y/n) Donohue."
"Oh, well he's welcome to come over for dinner. I'll be looking forward to it. Oh hang on, sweetie. Your father wants to say hello."
There was background noise, followed by the loud exhale when a masculine voice came through the line to greet Kate. To hear her father's voice brought a small deal of comfort to the dirty-blonde girl because of their father-daughter connect.
"... you know that we're here for you. And by the sounds of it, somebody is sure doing a good job in our absence. Your sisters miss you very much, pumpkin. Daddy loves you. See you soon, pumpkin. Bye-bye."
The line went dead.
Kate felt the need to change since it was so late, without comprehension of who might enter. It was yet to occur to her but it would only be too late. As Kate was just fixing her pyjama pants on and then her shirt, the door clicked open. (Y/n) entered the room, looking around blindly when he realised that he'd walked in on Kate just putting on her shirt. His face flushed red when he saw her standing in the centre of the room, red as a tomato and as skinny as a twig.
"Shit, sorry! I-I-I-I didn't mean to frighten you. But you just look... absolutely magnificent." (Y/n) apologised, following up with a compliment that he hoped would put her at ease.
(Y/n) shied his gaze away in embarrassment for walking in on her changing. Kate smiled faintly and tied her hair up into a bun, but not quite as traditionally as she would.
"It's okay. You can look." Kate offered.
(Y/n) timidly looked over at her, almost looking away but pulled himself back to see her dawdling towards him. He was surprised to see this side of her come out. Her hand was raised up to her cross, the very object she found solace in if ever in the absence of good company. The pious girl stood inches apart from him and placed her hand on his chest close to his heart.
They could both feel their breath beat against their faces at the intimacy became so unbearable that Kate wanted to submit to lust. To want to engage in their lust took a lout of willpower to resist but only Kate's depression and troubled thoughts of what her family thought about her video seemed to be enough in order to prevent her from sinning any further. (Y/n) was disappointed when she turned her head away.
She sat back down on his bed and watched him hand over a jelly sandwich as well as her bible. Gratefully, she took both and ate one slice of the sandwich. The awkward moment became too unbearable for (Y/n) to manage. Kate was slow to notice his discomfort as she was caught up reading her favourite bible passages when she realised it wasn't that room she belonged to. It was followed by dread if she were caught in his room, despite being such a rare case.
But Kate could not resist sin.
Halfway through her sandwich, Kate set her stuff down and stood up off the bed. He cupped her cheeks and stared deeply into her eyes, asking consensually to kiss her as well as confirming whether she truly wanted to go through with what she was about to do. He could easily see it in her eyes that she'd had enough and she wanted to do something different in her life that she would be happy with.
"You sure you wanna go through with this? If you do this, there's no going back."
Kate bit her bottom lip and glanced down at his. "I've always been following these rules, (Y/n). I adore God but I know there are people out there who are just as devoted to God but they still sin. We can never be perfect in our own strength. God has given us all that we need to live a holy life. There's no way I can be sinless. I'm not saying I'm going to stop believing - I will never stop believing in God - but I just want to be different."
"Well... if you're certain you want to do this, then who am I to judge?"
A smile broke on Kate's face over his willingness to support her - she felt she could trust him even more. Closing the gap between their faces, Kate pressed his lips against his, an act that he immediately drove into as his hands touched her face with care; their mouths slobbered together, tongues tangled together until they had to pull away for air. Her hands scrunched his shirt at how much she was enjoying it, how desperate she became when he pulled away.
"Did I do something wrong? Kate, are you okay, sweetheart?" (Y/n) asked worryingly.
Suddenly, Kate felt overwhelmed with emotion. At first glance, (Y/n) assumed she was having a random emotional breakdown but (Y/n) quickly realised that they weren't tears of sadness, but rather tears of joy. Her arms reached around his upper abdomen underneath his armpits, entrapping him in her vice grip. She looked up at him nuzzled her face in his neck for comfort.
"Oh (Y/n). You don't know how much you mean to me. I thought I couldn't trust anybody after my video got released. I tried to let the people I trust in, but they ended up just leaving me in the dark, in the cold blizzard to freeze with no ray of light or no fire to keep me warm; to keep me stable and alive."
(Y/n) hugged her tightly and whispered into her ear. "I'm not leaving you, Kate. It's just you and me against the world."
Kate giggled. "I don't know about that one."
"C'mon, love. You know you want to. Live a little."
"I-I mean... sure?"
"Let me hear you say it with more confidence. Say it with conviction! Say it like you mean it!"
Kate giggled and raised her voice. "It's you and me against the world!"
"Louder!"
"IT'S YOU AND ME AGAINST THE WORLD!!"
"IT'S YOU AND ME AGAINST THE WORLD!!" (Y/n) repeated cheerfully.
The two laughed heartily and jumped around the room. The racket they made was surely enough to arouse complaints from their neighbours but neither could truly give a damn at that point since (Y/n) had begun to revolutionise Kate into a better version of herself. Kate tore her eyes away from him and looked down at her hands which were held into his. (Y/n) stared at her until she looked up at him and saw that he had something else to say.
"Be my girlfriend?" (Y/n) asked nervously.
Slamming her lips against his, (Y/n) was shocked and drove back into the kiss before she pulled away and made their foreheads touch.
"I'll take that as a yes then."
"I'll accept if you do something for me? One teensy, weeny little favour?"
(Y/n) raised an eyebrow in curiosity of what she wanted to ask him. Kate braced herself to come forward with her request as only just establishing their feelings for one another as well as starting their relationship earlier that day, she knew it was quite the jump.
"Will you come have dinner with my family next week?"
Surely enough, (Y/n) was hesitant at her asking him to attend dinner with her family. While he was on board to do anything for her, he doubted himself that he was worthy to be accepted by her parents as her boyfriend.
"W-W-Well, I-I-I-I'm not one to shun away from obligations, b-but I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make you happy. And if it means by having dinner with your parents will prove that, then that's what I'll do. Deal."
The biggest smile broke on Kate's face. The delight of knowing that (Y/n) was game to have dinner with her family a week after getting together showed much commitment and initiative. She commended him by pressing a delicate kiss on the corner of his mouth. (Y/n) sat down on his bed and patted on the bed, calling for her company.
Kate obliged and sat down on the bed where she consumed the rest of her sandwich before lying down with her head on his lap. (Y/n)'s fingers brushed through her thick hair before untying it when he resumed massaging her scalp. She was lulled into a numbed state of sleepiness, to which she eventually fell asleep once more.
After a few hours had passed, (Y/n) awoke Kate in order to have her brush her teeth before they would both properly go to bed. To check if the coast was clear, (Y/n) stuck his head out the door and looked to see whether the hall was empty. Given the all clear, Kate went first. She snuck off to the girl's bathroom before (Y/n) headed off to the boy's bathroom after retrieving his own toothbrush and toothpaste.
The adventurous feeling the two were experiencing was quite exhilarating; something that neither thought they would ever have to do. Mainly Kate in particular. Nobody else was out and about while the two were separately brushing their teeth, but the concern of being caught was still lurking in the atmosphere until the two found solace inside (Y/n)'s room.
They were able to cope by snuggling under (Y/n)'s bedsheets where the two snuggled up together, their limbs entangled as they laid facing each other until she fell asleep for the third and final time, whereas (Y/n) drifted off shortly after she after spending a few minutes admiring her features and her personality; including ways that he could help her feel normal again.

Kate sweared that she had never wanted to be in any other place other than this one more than at the moment — well, except for when the security caught her destroying an old bell tower. This moment, though, is a mighty rival.
She’d rather face her mother’s wrath 100 more times than be at the stupid gala. Where she only got a second’s break, like this, before she had to make small talk with rich snobs again.
“Excuse me—?”
“Sorry, I’m not a waitress,” Kate mumbled, shrinking into herself like a shell. She didn’t even look at the person at first, because she’d been mistaken as a waitress too many times tonight. But, when she did turn her head, she found someone that looked like she should know them but she couldn’t place them.
“Oh, aren’t you the little Bishop girl? I didn’t recognize you!” The man said. Once his voice sunk in, Kate recognized him. Armand the III.
“Yep,” she answered, barely able to refrain from snarling. Is that really all she was to this people? A child who shared her dead father’s surname?
“You used to come to my brunches!” The old man proclaimed, realizing dawning on him.
Kate nodded in confirmation. God how she hated those brunches. Fancy food that had fancy names and too many people sitting at the table to count. No one ever spoke to her yet they all expected her to attend with a smile.
Her gaze travelled back to the wall she had been staring at, but she caught sight of something far more interesting: her mother and her mother’s boyfriend looking like they were having the time of their lives, laughing together.
“That suit is great, dear. However I do hope that you wear something more ladylike for the wedding — otherwise you and I would match!” Armand’s voice came yet again, this time accompanied with his hearty laughter.
Kate’s eyebrows drew together and she turned to him. “Wedding?” She asked cluelessly. God, which one of these people were going to throw an over-the-top, expensive wedding?
Armand jutted his chin at the direction of Kate’s mother and Jack. “Your mother’s, of course!” He said.
Kate took an imaginary sucker punch to the gut when she looked back and saw the ring flashing on her mother’s hand. She had seen it earlier but hadn’t payed it too much mind — for how was she supposed to know what an engagement ring looked like? She had never been engaged before! But . . . Her mother was getting married? And didn’t tell her?
The look on her face must’ve conveyed her thoughts due to Armand’s next words. “Ah, looks like you need to have a talk with your mother . . . Well, just before you do—Y/N! Katherine, you remember Y/N, right? Her grandfather and I go way back.”
Kate blinked when she heard that name, the memories washing over her like a wave. She recalled running around her grandfather’s mansion-sized house when all the adults were at dinner, giggling and playing hide and seek where they weren’t supposed to. They had been childhood best friends and always stuck by each other — especially because the other kids their age that they knew developed the classic mean girls attitude with their money.
She wasn’t quite sure she had expected to see when she looked over, but she hadn’t prepared for this. Y/N was stunning and Kate’s jaw physically dropped (only for a split second until her cheeks reddened when she realized).
“Kate!” Y/N’s warm yet eccentric voice filled the air, making the archer forget her woes with her mother. That was one of the reasons that Kate had liked her so much as a friend when they were younger — Y/N was genuinely excited to see you, and it showed when she hadn’t spoken or seen Kate in years.
“Y/N,” Kate said, and hoped her attempt to hide her surprise had succeeded.
Within seconds, Y/N’s arms were wrapped around Kate and her honey-scented perfume sent the brunette into heaven. Kate found herself melting into her former friend’s arms and couldn’t help but not want Y/N to stop hugging her. Her embrace was so comforting and just what she needed after the hectics that consumed her life lately. (Plus, Kate had to admit that having a pretty girl’s arms around her sent butterflies to her stomach).
“Well, I’ll leave you two to catch up,” Armand excused himself before he slipped away, disappearing into the sea of gems and jewels.
“How have you been, Kate?” Y/N asked, her eyes lit up with a big smile.
A wave of refreshment fell over Kate. It felt so calming and even validating to talk to someone who you could tell was genuinely interested in hearing your answer. “I’m good! Attending uni and . . .” She started to say, but couldn’t keep her eyes from wandering back to her mother and her new fiancé. There was a pregnant pause before she remembered that she was in the middle of a sentence. “—I’m, I’m sorry. I’m just distracted. Armand just told me that my mother is engaged and I-I didn’t know.”
Y/N’s eyes widened. “Oh my god,” she said, sounding just as shocked as Kate felt. “I’m so sorry! You don’t deserve that. Do you want to maybe step outside and take a breather for a second?”
Kate thought for a moment. Would her mom be mad at her for leaving? Yeah. Did she care? Not really. She smiled and nodded and Y/N matched her grin, linking their arms together. Kate didn’t ignore the way those butterflies now pecked at the walls of her stomach from the touch, and she wasn’t sure she wanted to.
The moment they got outside and the doors to the main room closed, Kate let out a breath of relief. The cold tingled on her arms, giving her goosebumps, but she didn’t mind because alongside the cold came the calm. No more could she hear what felt like a million people talking and clinking their drinks. She wasn’t surrounded by a crowd, only with one person.
They walked silently. Kate was grateful that Y/N seemed to recognize that she needed time to be in her thoughts. They did a lap through the hallways before nearing back to the main room, where they could hear beautiful classical music, slightly muffled through the large doors.
“Do you think people are dancing in there?” Y/N asked quietly, mindful to not be too loud with the walls causing her to echo.
Kate looked at the doors and imagined her mother and Jack dancing. She shrugged.
With one glance at her friend, Y/N could tell that she wasn’t ready to go back inside. She quickly thought up a plan and unliked their arms. “Hey,” she said, smiling. “Do you want to, like, do the waltz out here?”
Kate looked at her, appreciating her eagerness but still hesitant. “I can’t dance,” she admitted through a chuckle, remembering the last time she tried to dance and how she stumbled over her own two feet.
Y/N shrugged nonchalantly. “I can’t either,” she said.
Kate thought and then decided, why not? What was the harm? She got into position like how she had seen people do in the movies. Y/N’s smile grew (if that was even possible) and seeing her smile just made Kate smile. It was contagious! She took got into position and let Kate lead.
They waited for the beat to come again in the song and then started their waltz. They were uncoordinated, going different ways, but they maintained smiles all throughout. Kate rushed out an apology when she accidentally stepped on Y/N’s feet, but was happily surprised when Y/N just laughed.
They fell into their own rhythm — definitely not on beat but that didn’t matter. Soon, their steps synced up and got quicker, and they matched each other perfectly. Kate and Y/N got lost in their dance, in each other. Someone could walk by and they probably wouldn’t notice.
It was only when Kate twirled Y/N and the latter stumbled that their daze broke. The brunette gasped and caught her, and they both got lost in each other’s eyes for a few seconds. Kate noticed that Y/N’s were as captivating and alluring as the deep water in the sea.
“You alright?” Kate asked, suddenly feeling more confident. Like she could do anything.
Y/N smirked and gave a small nod. “Nice catch, Bish—”
She was cut off by a sudden loud smashing sound and the floor physically shaking. Kate quickly but gently got Y/N to their feet and Y/N latched her arms to Kate’s in fear.
After a moment, the floor stopped shaking, but they were still both on high alert.
“What was that?” Y/N asked, looking around. Kate did the same.
“I don’t—” she said, before being interrupted by what sounded like shouting. “—know.”
Kate took a second to close her eyes and remember her way around this place. She considered visualizing the crayon map she had sloppily drawn as a kid to navigate, but that was useless. Her memory, combined with her use of determine where she was hearing these sounds, helped her form a path and, without a second thought, she set off for it. Y/N was close behind her, not wanting her to go alone.
They found a staircase and quickly and carefully pattered down if. Kate pushed open a door and both their eyes widened as they took in the sight. Masked men were all over the place, yelling to each other, and there was a large hole in the wall. Meanwhile, other people — people who had been attending the gala — were mostly on the floor, recovering in confusion.
Y/N’s grip on Kate’s arm suddenly tightened. “Oh my god,” she gasped. “There’s Armand and Jack!”
Kate’s eyes followed to where she was pointing and sure enough, she found the men. Her eyebrows crinkled in confusion — what were they doing here? But she didn’t have much time to dwell on it.
“I can help them,” she declared, turning to Y/N, who looked frightened beyond belief.
Y/N shakily nodded and, somehow able to think quickly, shrugged off the shall she had been wearing. She spotted a piece of broken glass on the ground and grabbed it, using it to cut two eye-holes in her shall. She then motioned for Kate to turn around and tied it around her head, tight enough so it wouldn’t fall off but loose enough so Kate could still see and breathe.
Kate murmured a thank you which she was sure Y/N didn’t hear and jumped into a fight.
Y/N found herself captivated by her friend’s moves, unable to stop watching how she kicked and hit and spun and jumped with ease, taking down every attacker she came into contact with.
It was only when a strong pair of arms grabbed her did her gaze break away from Kate. At first, she struggled, but stopped when she realized that she wasn’t being attacked. The person firmly, but also gently, moved her to the side and when Y/N looked back, she saw that that person had been none other than Hawkeye.
He swiftly entered the fight. “Get out of here!” He yelled to Kate as he took over. For a second, she froze at seeing her childhood hero, but responded when she heard Y/N calling her name. She turned around and ran, taking Y/N’s hand and pulling it along with her.
Neither of them knew where they were going or what they were going to do, but at least they were together.

Pairings: Male Reader x Stefan Salvatore. Male Reader & Damon Salvatore.
Tumblr media
Y/N walked into his shared room with Jeremy after taking a shower as he noticed Damon staring out the window. Y/N sighed. Damon’s been doing this a lot lately and it was starting to get old. “Seriously?”
Damon smirked as he turned slightly and said. “I was wrong.”
Y/N frowned as he walked closer into the room. “Are you drunk?” The last time this happened Damon had drunk quite a bit after Katherine rejected him and so had Y/N. He snapped Jeremy’s neck after that.
Damon made a bitch face as he turned to Y/N. “No.” Y/N set his towel down on the bed. “I thought Stefan was gone, but I was wrong.”
Y/N looked at Damon shocked. “You saw him out there? Damon, is he okay?”
“No, he's not okay, Y/N. He's an insufferable martyr that needs his ass kicked...But he can be saved.”
“What happened out there? What changed your mind?”
“I changed my mind because even in his darkest place, my brother still can't let me die. So I figure I owe him the same in return,” Damon said. “I'll help you bring him back.”
“Thank you.”
“But before I do, I need you to answer one question. What made you change your mind?”
“What do you mean?” Y/N asked, confused.
“You were so hellbent on staying on that mountain, then you just gave up. So what changed your mind?” Damon asked, his Steele blue eyes were transfixed on Y/N, searching for an answer.
Y/N scoffed. “We were under attack, Damon.”
“You had a bag full of weapons and a teacher with an eternity ring. You could have kept going,” Damon said.
“It was too dangerous,” Y/N protested.
“It was too dangerous going out there to begin with, so what was it?” Damon countered.
“Why are you acting like this?”
“What changed your mind, Y/N?”
“I didn't want to see you get hurt, okay?” Y/N admitted. “I was...I was worried about you.”
“Thanks.” Damon turned to leave.
“Yes, I worry about you. Why do you even have to hear me say it?” Y/N got closer and looked up at the oldest Salvatore brother.
“Why? Why do you care about me? I’m not Stefan. I’m not the good brother and I never will be.”
“That doesn’t matter. You may be annoying and hot-tempered, but you're still my friend and Stefan would never forgive me if I let something happen to you. Despite your promise of an eternity of misery, I know you love your brother and he loves you too,” Y/N said.
Damon made a face. “Gross you’re talking about feelings.”
“Come on, Damon. Admit it. You care on some level.”
“Maybe I just care about you,” Damon said as he touched Y/N’s face. Y/N saw a brief light of gentleness and vulnerability, something that was very rare when it came to Damon Salvatore. Y/N smiled softly and let himself take advantage of this tender moment. “Maybe you do care about me… But I also know that you care for my sister too. You like her more than you cared to admit, and maybe if you and I had met first… Things might have been different.”
“Hey, I get it. It’s Stefan. It’s always going to be Stefan,” Damon said, just a hint of sadness in his voice.
“I’m sorry, Damon.”
“It’s okay, Y/N I get it. It’s not your fault so don’t beat yourself up over it.” Damon smiled. That same cocky smile that he always wore on his face. “Good night, Y/N.” He walked past Alaric. “How's it going, Ric?”
Alaric poked his head inside the room and asked Y/N. “Know what you're doing there?”
Y/N licked his lips. “Yeah, I think I do.”

his guilt and conscience do not allow him to fall asleep and rest in his bed. if he wants to be civil and reciprocally, he needs to recognize when he is in the wrong and apologize. she didn’t do anything wrong, he shouldn’t have set such high expectations.
he puts on his robe and goes to the duchess’s chambers. strangely, he thinks it is a good thing that her room is far from his, just so he has time to think of the right words. it’s not the first time he’s been intimidated in her presence, and stuttering in front of her seems pathetic.
he takes a deep breath and knocks three times on the door. to his surprise, beatrice answers the door.
“your grace.” she bows to the duke.
as he steps into her room, he smells roses and cinnamon, a different combination of scents, but just as pleasant. he can’t help but look into the duchess’s main environment, which is lit by candles in certain places. there are books everywhere and flowers from the garden that he recognizes. her dressing table has few items, just a small jewelry box, a brush, and a few hairpins, but her desk has lots of papers and a small leather-bound notebook that looks like a diary. being the curious creature he is, he’s already starting to wonder if she writes about him.
“charles?” y/n’s voice calls out to him, and she looks a little confused as to why he’s in her room in his nightwear.
she runs to put on her robe, even though charles saw her more exposed than usual. sensing her presence is no longer needed, beatrice excuses herself and leaves the duke and the duchess alone. charles mentally thanks the young woman as she leaves, because privacy is what he wants the most right now.
“i owe you an apology.” he starts. “i admit i should not have been rude to you at dinner, i hope you will forgive me. it will not happen again.”
once again, she can hear the sincerity in his voice. perhaps the image she has of charles is twisted. what if she is wrong about him?
“i owe you an apology, too.” she admits.
“what for?”
“for the way i have been treating, or mistreating you these past months.”
seeing her in a position of vulnerability is nearly shocking. it’s not even that much exposure from her, but charles sees her as a tough person, and hearing her words comforts him, because just like her, he feels sincerity and honesty in her apology. more than anyone else, he knows how hard it is to admit when you are in the wrong.
“oh, do not worry. you have your reasons and i understand.”
“even so, i shouldn’t have been such a monster to you.”
“it is all in the past.”
a small smile appears on her lips. apparently a white flag indicating a truce had been raised. charles says goodbye and goes back to his room, no longer feeling the pain in his back as he is always tense in the presence of y/n. his shoulders are relaxed as is his posture. with a smile on his face, charles goes back to his bed and for the first time since he got married, he sleeps peacefully.
(...)
a few weeks have passed, the eighteenth birthday of king henry’s new wife, katherine howard, approaches. the friendship between y/n and charles just blossoms, which makes the duke happier. conversations over dinner gradually linger, and making her laugh is almost a duty he gives to himself. it’s the most pleasant sound, and he finds it adorable when she covers her mouth when she laughs a little louder than usual.
they have a quite a lot in common. contrary to what she assumed, charles is far from arrogant. in fact, he doesn’t seem so fond of so many formalities. the way he talks about his parents, who are sadly deceased, is a little disheartening. he seems to need approval from others constantly, something she can relate to.
little by little, y/n manages to humanize in her own head the man behind the broad, strong body that charles has. there’s a sweetness in his blue eyes that she has been allowing herself to notice.
it’s difficult to get more information about her, though. y/n is very reserved and still prefers to spend most of her time by herself, which bothers him a little, and he still notices a little sadness in her eyes. he’s almost positive that something still disturbs her and he tries to make her feel comfortable enough to open up, but all of his attempts have failed.
give time to time, he keeps reminding himself.
(...)
the birthday party is grand, something the court and guests await. king henry always goes out of his way to show off to his subjects. the royal castle is a dream of gold, the most expensive flowers are everywhere, only the best food is being served, and the guests wear their most sophisticated attire. the king is ecstatic over his sixth wife, he will never spare any effort to make her happy.
the carriages keep arriving and more and more people enter the king’s castle. in one of them is charles and y/n, and both are as well dressed as the others in the royal court. y/n’s dress is stunning, and it’s completely different from the ones she’s ever worn in public. its rich emerald tone compliments her entirely, and the pearls in her hair soften her youthful appearance. charles is as well groomed as she is, but he opted for a monochromatic black attire, which makes him look even more imposing. regardless, they look complementary to each other.
“do not be surprised if male attention is focused on you.” he comments with a subtle laugh.
her puzzled expression cheers him a bit. he knows what is said about him and his wife, both the nasty comments and the most lustful ones.
he helps her down from the carriage and, with arms entwined, they enter the royal castle. as they are announced, all eyes turn to the couple. the king, upon seeing his longtime friend, goes to meet him with a proud smile on his face. the duchess’s distaste for the king is clear, but she knows how to hide it, for the sake of etiquette. after greeting each other briefly, charles and y/n follow to the main table, where the king is reunited with his wife.
“oh, you must be y/n!” the queen cheerfully says, properly ditching said etiquette. “your dress is marvelous!”
“thank you, your majesty.” y/n smiles.
the bubbly nature of the queen is pleasant; even charles thinks she’s quite funny with her antics. the age gap between her and the king is quite alarming, but she seems to be what holds him down a bit.
the music is loud, and the guests are all over the ballroom, either dancing or talking. for some reason, y/n feels unquiet. maybe it’s the heat, the loud noises or the constant glares she gets from other women. they don’t even try to hide when they’re obviously gossiping about her. she’s not entirely aware of her ‘fame’, but she knows she’s the subject of many conversations.
enthusiastically, the king taps his cup with silverware, drawing the attention of all the guests.
“first of all, i want to thank you all for coming to my beloved wife’s birthday, your majesty, the queen.” he says and hears applause for the sweet queen katherine. “happy birthday, my love. may the next few years of your life be as beautiful as you are.”
katherine blows her husband a kiss and he raises his wineglass to the guests. everyone raises their glasses and takes a sip, celebrating the queen’s life.
“i wonder how long this marriage is going to last…” charles comments under his breath, only y/n is able to hear, and she chuckles in response.
“i give it a year.”
they exchange a look, and when the music starts to play again, a few of the guests begin to dance in pairs.
“would you grant me a dance?” he asks.
as she looks around, she sees that her attention is focused on the king and queen. a dance won’t do any harm, she thinks.
“of course.”
he takes her to the center of the room by her hand, and soon they stand opposite each other to dance. if his memory serves him, he’s never been this close to her, and he takes this moment as an opportunity to really get a closer look, maybe he notices a new detail on her beautiful face? if he could, he’d spend hours memorizing every detail of y/n, because she’s so stunning, and with every observation she makes—of any subject—she becomes the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen.
y/n, however, is fighting all of her instincts. she doesn’t quite allow herself to look at charles. even though they are in a peaceful territory, he’s still the man who has been with her friends, he’s still the man who accepted her father’s offer to marry her in exchange for a mere position at the court. she’s certainly noticed his looks, and can’t deny that he isn’t as awful as she made herself to believe, and now she knows he’s an excellent dancer.
he guides her so masterfully and firmly, she feels safe, even though she isn’t very fond of dancing. regardless, he makes it feel pleasant. his eyes doesn’t leave hers for a second, but she looks around every now and then.
that’s when she sees a very familiar face, amidst all these people. one she would recognize anywhere, but the spin of the dance makes her lose sight of the person.
“is everything alright?” charles asks.
“yes…” she replies, toneless.
the dance continues, faster now. small heels mark the final part of the dance, and the noise of several shoes on the floor makes her uncomfortable. who is that person? the rhythm of the music picks up, people are talking loudly, the dance gets more energetic, and all she wants is to recognize that face. it can’t be.
she keeps searching for that face, but there are so many people in that ballroom, it’s pointless. the dance is making her feel a bit nauseous, she even contemplates leaving charles on the dance floor by himself, but when he bows down to her, she realizes the dance is finally over.
finally!
when they return to the main table, henry calls them to introduce them to the duchess of jämtland. even from afar, y/n can see how different the duchess is. pale complexion, light, straight and fine hair, bright blue eyes. she can’t help but compare herself to her. beside the duchess is her husband.
james.
the face she had seen. it’s him.
“charles and y/n, i would like to introduce you to my friends from sweden, your grace annika and her husband, james.” king henry says.
with each step she takes, y/n’s body freezes more and more, her heart beats faster and faster, and her breathing gets shorter and shorter. james is not at all shocked, more like afraid. only he knows the reason for the terror on y/n’s face at that moment, as much as she tries to hide it, he knows her better than anyone else in that room. she cannot move a single finger to greet the duchess and her husband.
“it’s a pleasure to meet you, your grace.” charles says to annika and kisses the back of her hand.
when he turns his attention to james, y/n feels like fainting. as if her two worlds are about to collide.
“this is my longtime friend, charles, the duke of suffolk and his wife, y/n, his duchess.” henry says.
“it is an honor to meet you, your grace.” james says, repeating the same gesture as charles, but now with the woman he once promised to love forever.
y/n is unable to move throughout the entire greeting process, and the situation only gets worse when she notices the annika’s subtle bump, which she doesn’t seem to hide that she is pregnant, as she takes her belly in with her hands.
“they are here to visit my kingdom and james is possibly going to war with us. sweden is our partner against france.” henry informs charles, completely unaware of the history between james and y/n.
“my apologies,” y/n speaks, trying to regain herself. “i’m not-”
“would your grace grant me a dance?” james interrupts.
he looks at charles with a silent request, and the duke looks at his wife.
“she doesn’t require my permission.” charles explains.
“ah, of course! a dance! charles, take annika to dance, james, you take y/n to dance. let’s all dance!” the king shouts, clearly a little inebriated.
everyone gathers in the center of the room and starts dancing.  y/n’s hands are shaky and a bit sweaty, and james tries to soothe her with his gaze. he tries to apologize, but knows she will never forgive him. after everything that happened between them… it’s almost impossible to believe it.
“i can explain.” he mumbles.
“don’t.” she simply says.
her odd behavior hasn’t gone unnoticed, though. charles has never seen her so pale before, almost as if she’d seen a ghost. he glances at them, and he knows she’s on the verge of tears. he isn’t dumb — it takes charles less than a few minutes to realize that james is the man y/n claimed to love, months ago. the way they’re looking at each other is more than enough proof.
“y/n, please.”
“she is with child.” y/n’s voice trembles with her own affirmation.
james is heartbroken, more than he was when they saw each other for the last time, over a year ago.
“we can still be together.”
his speech outrages her, and she is forced to withdraw. she runs as fast as she can to the large and vast garden of the castle, and hopes that no one will find her, but charles and james have gone after her, and a small commotion is caused in the hall, which is quickly contained. the poor swedish duchess is left confused.
she feels that the walls are getting tighter and tighter, or maybe it’s the dress that is too tight on her body that doesn’t let her breathe.
breathe.
breathe, y/n.
only when she manages to get out of the castle and into the huge garden is it possible to hear the silence and breathe fresh air, no matter how cold it is. it’s behind a big tree that she finally stops running. her chest is tight, beating faster than ever. it’s all so disappointing and confusing, she just wants it to be over.
she thought she had experienced pain before, but now it’s different. a mixture of hatred and disappointment washes over her like a wave, and she reduces herself to tears. the more she thinks about it, more tears roll down her face and her heart feels tighter.
she hears footsteps approaching, and to her surprise, james finds her. he looks just as haunted as she is, and he’s panting from running so fast to find her.
“my love-”
“no!” she protests. “you betrayed me, james! how could you?!”
“y/n, please…”
“how dare you?!” she inquires through her teeth, not even able to hide her anger. “how dare you come to me with a wife? with a pregnant wife?!”
“you must listen to me, y/n.” he says as he grabs her by her shoulders and forcing her to look at his eyes. “i could not get to you if i did not marry someone... important. i did this for you, my love.”
he pulls her against him and kisses her forcefully, but y/n manages to punch him in the chest and break free of his embrace. she pushes him away and wipes her mouth with the back of her hand harshly.
“don’t you dare touch me.” she barks through gritted teeth, her voice is full of rage. “you went to bed with her for me? how fucking stupid do you think i am, james? don’t you know me at all?!”
unbeknownst to them, charles is near, watching the fight, prepared to attack him if need be, but from what he sees, y/n is able to fend for herself. there’s no doubt he is the man she told him about, and charles can’t deny his jealousy, not even to himself. he’s never seen y/n so heartbroken before, and all of his instincts are telling him to intervene.
“i still love you!” james claims desperately.
“i suggest you leave her alone.” charles says with the calmest tone to his voice.
y/n is only able to breathe when she sees the duke, because he brings her a sensation of security. she’s even able to breathe a little better.
“who do you think you are to talk to me with this tone?” james challenges. “i couldn’t care less if you are her husband, your grace,” he says with a mocking tone. “we all know this is an arrangement. she loves me.”
“i am trying to be peaceful for her sake, but if you insist on testing me, i’ll lose my composure and end you.” the duke threatens, and his tone is as cold as winter nights.
both men are now face to face, close to each other, and the possibility of the fight becoming physical makes her desperate, as the last thing she wants is a scandal.
“both of you, stop! now!” she exclaims as she pushes the two tall, strong men apart. she knows james, and he can certainly be scary. he’s a tall, built man with fighting skills, but it seems that charles is his elevated match. “i will not tolerate a scene.”
“he started it!” james barks.
“stop it!” y/n protests. she regains a bit of control over herself and wipes her tears with the back of her hands. “leave,” she pleads. “we have nothing else to talk about.”
“y/n-”
“james, please! i do not want to see you ever again.”
outraged, james does as she says and leaves, but not before pushing charles with his shoulder on his way out.
“did he hurt you?” charles asks as he cups her face in his hands. the scary look is no longer on his face, as he is now concerned. her teary eyes break him completely. she looks so broken and hopeless.
yes. deeply.
“please, i must go home.” she begs and sniffles, never before having felt so small. “please, i am begging you.”
“yes, absolutely.”
charles takes her in his arms and soothes her before they leave. for the first time, they’re in each other’s arms, and both of them feel complete somehow. in this very moment, charles represents the security she needs, and she is the equivalent of what is missing in his life. the comfort she finds in his embrace is something she didn’t even know could be real. not even in james’ arms she felt such care.
did james care for her at all?
the most heartbreaking thing is that she can feel her love for james turning into absolute hatred and it is terrifying.
“i am here for you, y/n.” charles whispers before placing a kiss on the top of her head.

Hi, how are you? Your blog is amazing and your recommendations have already allowed me to read wonderful stories, so thank you so much! I wonder if you could suggest me any cherik fics of them as detectives? I remember reading one a long time ago, but unfortunately I don't know the name and even less the synopsis. “You know I can’t tell you that,” the fed answers cheerfully. Then his gaze lands on Alex, and, impossibly, his grin gets even brighter. “Did you get a new partner?"
