Am catching up on Neverafter and got to Pib and the wolf’s conversation in episode 11… Just found it very endearing. I like seeing Pib’s relationships with other beasts and his interaction with archetype vs character. Also he’s like, A Little Cat Dude Who Made Biscuits On A Lion, so like. Something that I will never forgive the world for is Yuri on Ice. This fantastic show only having one season is an absolute war crime and it will never be okay.
I have watched the show 5 times now, and there is still yet to be a time that I haven’t cried. Every aspect of the show makes your heart swell with excitement. Every sports anime I’ve ever watched just makes me so excited and filled with energy and I hate that there always seem to be so few options. There are tv shows like Grey’s Anatomy that have 20 something seasons and I’m bored within twenty minutes, but watching some of these animes, I can’t tear my eyes away.
It was also the first representation I had ever seen. I went to a Catholic elementary school and I didn’t even know what gay meant, but seeing Victor and Yuri on screen was possibly the best moment of my life. Not only is it representation, it’s good representation. No burying the gays, no making them deal with coming out trauma, just two men wearing engagement rings and everyone cheering for them.
Plus, All of these skaters are about 17-27, and the coaches and parents are even older. These are characters my age that I love to watch, and can feel comfortable seeing shirtless.
Not only does it have amazing characters and plot for days, but it had such an ability to expand if it wanted to. There could have been tons of content, from character arcs on some of the crueler characters like JJ and Yurio, along with ageing up characters and bringing in new, younger characters. They could have done something with the women ice skaters, and even kept characters like Victor and Yuri in as coaches.
We have been waiting for a second season or a movie for so long and that’s all I want to see in the world. I don’t care if I have to write it myself, I just want more. I’m tired of staring at fan fiction and crying because I know that it will never become real, I just want to see these characters come to life again.
