Halloween prompts year 2 day 30

Danny became aware suddenly, the memory of his mothers parting shot as he fled fresh in his mind. He panicked, thrashing around in what felt like a thick liquid when his hand hit what felt like a wall of glass.

A tube? Was Danny floating in a freaking vat somewhere? He didn't remember anything after being shot down by his mom but he knew if he was in a lab somewhere he needed to escape!

In moments he was on the ground surrounded by wierd fluid and shattered glass. He ripped the oxygen mask off his face and threw it away from him as a violent shiver wracked his body.

Looking up he was surprised. He was expecting the bright shiney metal of his parents lab, or the white of the GIW lab, heck, even the wierd purple thing Vlad sometimes had going on would have made sense. As much as he would have hated to have been saved by the fruitloop, it would have been a familiar fight.

The devil you know and all that.

But no, this lab was all dull blacks, dark grays and inky shadows. The tubes around him bathing the atmosphere in a soft green glow that barely illuminated anything.

Great. Wonderful. Just what he needed. More people making more problems for him.

Danny picked himself up off the ground, shuttering again and was surprised to realize he didn't have any clothes on.

Danny decided that whoever had kidnapped him was going to get acquainted the Anti-creep stick. Luckly there was a closet nearby with what looked like a superhero costume in it. Okay. Hes dealt with weirder situations.

He put most of the suit on, leaving behind the cape, mask and chest straps. Danny had to admit he liked the red and black look. The gold was a nice touch...too...

Oh no. Where these supervillian clothes?! Red and black are totally Saturday morning cartoon villian colors! His mind started whirling, somthing that it doesn't usually do as he made his way over to the darkened computer almost by instinct.

Then he looked up.

There wasn't a lot of light in this place, but there was enough to see his reflection in the blackness of the computer monitor. One problem.

That wasn't his face.

He was as this strangers face twisted into confusion and horror. Was he overshadowing somebody? No. No...he was...Tim Drake? He watched as his reflection furrowed his brows.

No. He was Danny Fenton, son of Jack and Maddie Fenton. Local mad scientists.

But...he was Tim Drake, son of Jack and Janet Drake. Archeologists.

A distressed sound left his throat as he slid to the floor, two entire lifetimes flashing before his eyes as he tried to figure out what was real. He tried using his powers but nothing happened. That should have answered everything, right?

But that wouldn't explain how he had shattered the entirety of the thick glass of his tube prison. The glass had been completely shattered and landed in a circle around the tubes base in a way no punch could have done, no matter how powerful. Does he have powers that are simply unavailable right now or is there another explanation?

Either way he should probably wear a mask so people don't ask why Tim Drake is dressed as Red Robin, huh?

Oh god. Red Robin.

He woke up in a cloning pod in one of Red Robins secret labs! He remembered Jack, Maddie, other Jack, and Janet's treatment of him. He recalled each and every dismissive comment, every empty promise. Every time the bleachers were empty at his vollyball games. Every time he was left home alone for an "important" dig. Every time his parents ran off because a ghost might be nearby. Every time Tim would throw everything to the wayside to focus on a case. Every time Tim would throw away his own health and well being for a goal. Every time...

Danny straightened up and pulled himself off the floor before he started typing away at the computer and planning his next moves.

Regardless of what was happening, if he was Danny overshadowing a clone or if his life as Fenton was just a dream from a pod, he knew one thing for sure.

He did not need another neglectful parent.

Aka Danny runs around Gotham avoiding the bats, the press, the rogues, the petty criminals, the mob, and the police. He fails of course and manages to somehow make enemies out of everyone all while having a massive identity crisis and searching for a new home far far away from here before Tim Drake figures out who he really is...

“hello?” i say into my phone. matt is calling me which is wierd because it is around the time he is filming his pod. “hi baby, can you come over?” he says, with a strained voice like he has been crying. “of course my love, has something happened?” i ask worriedly, already grabbing my car keys. “just my stupid cramps again, just please come” he says sniffling. “alright baby, i love you, i’m on my way” i say grabbing stuff and heading out my house. “ i love you” he says hanging up.

i knock on the door, and nick answers. “hey y/n, what’s up?” he asks confused, probably because i wasn’t planning on coming over today. “here for matt, said his cramps were bad” i respond quickly, ready to just see him. “oh yeah, they are getting very frequent, i’m getting worried but yes please come in” he says stepping to the side of the door, allowing me to step by.

i knock on matt’s door. “come in” i hear a quiet voice say on the other side. i slowly open the door to see him, in a pitch black room. i awkwardly smile as i hold up all the things i brought. my heating pad, medicine, water, and his favorite blanket of mine. he just slightly laughs. “thank you so much baby, sorry if i interrupted plans you had or something” he says sitting up, but as he does, he groans in pain. i immediately rush over, “hey love, your never a burden, please just lay down and let me take care of you” i reply, setting my stuff down on his bed side table and plugging the heating pad in. “here take this, gorgeous” i say, handing him some advil and water. he immediately takes it, muttering a quick thanks before laying his head back, covering his pink tinted cheeks.

i put the heating pad on his leg where he got his cramp, and i get into bed next to him, laying the blanket over us. with my head on his chest, i feel how steady his heartbeat is. it comforts me. i rub up and down his arm, “your so beautiful matt” i say as he just hums.”so, so pretty” i continue. “still hurts” he whines, digging his head into my neck. “i know pretty boy, try to get some rest please” i say. he hums again. “goodnight baby, i love you” i say. he tiredly kisses the top of my head, “goodnight, i love u so much” he responds before falling asleep not long after.

We alredy know what's Chilchuck's worst nightmare. What if I told you that it was canon?

His daughters have alredy been eaten. His wife was eaten too. His family are all dead. His worst nightmare has come truth. And he for sure feels like it's partially his fault, because it's the Winged Lion doing, yes, but who helped Laios get here? Chilchuck. And who's daughters and wife are now dead because of it? Chilchuck's. The suggestion of recreating them tells us that they've alredy been eaten. The way he says it makes it feel like it's too late. They're dead. Because of him. Of his actions. Of his job. The irony of it all is actually quite cruel. He makes a union so he can prevent bad things to happen to his race, to his family, and then, and he works at the union. And now, because of his job, he got them all killed.

He doesn't even know how his daughters are until way later, I don't even know if in the manga they send letters to him during the feast, because I know they don't go to said feast. So Chilchuck doesn't know if his girls are alright until, again, way later. We know they don't die because, well, there's this comic of them going to meet Laios, the new king. But if not for that, who could tell us they didn't die on the monster appearances? I can imagine that after the feast Chil went stright to check on them. Because he loves his daughters, and he cares for his wife. He sucks at communicating it, yes, but he does.

He doesn't want to risk his family's safety. But he, unknowingly, unwillingly, indirectly, did. He got them eaten by those demons because he helped his friends achieve his goal. Because he cared about Falin and wanted her to be human again. Because he cared about Laios and didn'twanted to see him loose his sister. Because he cared about Marcille, Senshi and Itsuzumi. He cares so much about everyone and wants to help everyone (in his own way), that he doesn't think that the result would, inevitably so, be the worst outcome for him. The one in wich work and private life get mixed together. His job as a member of Laios's party ended dragging his family in, despite his best efforts. His job ended up, not only endangering the whole word with demons, but his family. His four precious girls. It ended up almost killing them (probably it killed them for some time because getting eaten by those demons works wierd).

Worst part? He didn't have the time to be mourn over what he 100% sure thought was the complete loss of his family. He was in a hurry to survive himself, so he pushed those sad feelings and tried his best to help who he had left. Later on he finds out that the demons spitted out people. And he seems shocked with some kind of surprised relief.

He looks how everyone that got eaten was alive. And he can't quite either believe it nor understand it. He is really confused. So they didn't die? Are my daughters ok? Is my wife ok? Did everybody survived? Are they alive? He dares to hope that they're all ok and pulls into a box his feelings again, saving it up for when he has the time to be overwhelmed about this all. He has a feast, trying not to worry, but worried sick. Then he goes home and checks on them.

Give this poor man a break and a beer...

Dustin’s Absent Father and the Effects on His Character

Here’s something I don’t think I’ve made before, it’s a Dustin analysis!

In season 2 we are introduced to Dustin’s mom, as well as the lack of Dustin’s father. It’s not hammered over the head or anything, but it’s there. We aren’t explicitly told what happened to him, and we don’t necessarily need to be told. There are plenty of kids who live in single parent households, and we don’t need to hear the details of this story to understand it. However, the show may be telling us in subtle ways how this effects Dustin, and also what exactly happened to him.

The absense of Dustin’s father seems to make him reach out to others as a replacement father, as well as want to become a good caregiver himself. He does both of these things in season 2, where he simultaneously becomes a adoptive father of D’Art as well as seeks out Steve Harrington as a surrogate father figure (whether he was conscious of this or not)

I think that Dustin’s dedication to D’Art may give some insight as to what happened to his father, or at least, how his father’s absence has affected him. When everyone is arguing about what to do with D’Art, Dustin blurts out this telling line:

I believe that this line may be a projection of Dustin’s personal experience when it came to his father. He promised that he would take care of Dustin, but ended up leaving and/or possibly even dying. Either way, he still left in some capacity and was unable to fulfill that promise.

Dustin says to Mike that he moved to Hawkins in the fourth grade, so I’m willing to bet that his father left and him and his mom moved because of this. This happens to families all the time where they have to relocate because a major source of income has left. We see this happen with Max and her mom in season 4 when they downsize after her step-father leaves. The Henderson’s do seem financially stable though, not as well off as the Wheelers or Sinclairs, but more money than the Byers or the Mayfeilds. I’m willing to bet that Claudia works too, based on her wardrobe. She often dresses in collared shirts and either pants or a skirt with tights underneath, outfits befitting of office-like job.

When Dustin interacts with Claudia, it feels a little different than how other characters like Mike or Will interact with their moms. He’s not as mama’s boy as Will is nor does he argue with her as much as Mike does with Karen. Their interactions are friend-like, almost as if Dustin views her as another one of his friends and less his mom. I think about the scene in the beginning of s2 where Dustin is searching for coins, and he makes weird noises to mock his mom. I’m about to make a wierd comparison, but their dynamic reminds me a little bit of Eric Cartman and his mom from South Park.

Now OBVIOUSLY Dustin is not mean towards or controlling of his mother like Cartman is, but both are single-mom and only child households, and Cartman also sometimes talks to his mom in a similar way that he would talk to his friends, while his mom is extremely loving and doting on him like Claudia is to Dustin. (Loose connection I know, but I’m trying to make a point 😭)

It’s almost like because of the lack of a strong male presence in the house, Dustin almost sees himself as equal with his mom. There isn’t another man that he sees as seperate from himself that establishes a power dynamic, if anything he sees himself the man of the house.

Dustin does however seek out that older male father figure, in both Steve and Eddie. Dustin goes to Steve as a bit of a last reaort, but I think he may have also subconsciously been seeking out and older male to protect him, similar to the role of a father. Off the bat, Steve's relationship with Dustin does begin pretty fatherly. Steve is giving Dustin dating advice, similar to how a parent might talk to their kid about dating. He then gives Dustin a ride to the Snow Ball, who has done his hair the way that Steve told him. We even see this right after we see Max’s mom helping her with her hair.

In season 3, their relationship shifts. Similar to how Dustin interacts with his mom, he now sees Steve as more of his friend rather than his father. He is on equal level with him. Their first interaction of the season is the two of them playing lightsaber with each other— their relationship has definitely shifted from father-son to big brother-little brother.

Dustin even gives dating advice to Steve now, except for the other way around. Dustin's status as a man with the girlfriend gives him a sense of superiority against the man who is effectively bitchless. However, I do think that Dustin is still seeking out that fatherly connection. Dustin goes to Steve after he has already been abandoned by the rest of his friends, something that was echoed with his real dad.

Once season 4 roles around, Dustin starts spending much more time with Eddie than he does with Steve, which is told to us through the dialogue. I think part of the reason why Dustin prefers Eddie over Steve is because Eddie is fulfilling the surrogate dad role better than Steve at this point. How is Eddie more fatherly than Steve? It's not that Eddie is more mature than Steve, but rather Eddie asserts a type of power in his relationship with both Dustin and Mike. He tells them that they are both his sheep and he is essentially their shepherd, or what could be interpreted in Dustin's mind as "You are my son, and I am your father." Eddie even dictates how they dress, what with the Hellfire shirts and whatnot. Eddie even uses the example of "Clothes that your mommy bought you at the goddamn Gap," creating another parent parallel. It’s similar to how Steve was instructing Dustin how to wear his hair.

I don't necessarily think that Mike sees Eddie as a dad but more as a role model that he wants to be like, which is shown through his hair and style shift that attempts to replicate Eddie. Dustin, however, DOES see him as a dad.

So then, if Dustin sees Eddie as replacement for his dad that left him, then that makes this scene all the more sad.

Which begs the question, did Dustin's real father die? There's no conclusive evidence (as far as I can tell) to suggest that he did, but there's also nothing to say that he didn't. If he did, it would definitely make Dustin experiencing the death of a father figure all the more tragic than it already was.

So what does this mean for Dustin's character going forward? I think that we might see a repeat of what happened in season 2, where Dustin steps into a caregiver like role. Not that he's going to get a new baby to replace D'Art, but rather he might assert himself as a protective figure, as to not lose anyone else to the Upside Down. Out of everyone, especially with his science knowledge and interest in research, that he would become the survivalist and the one most prepared to try and keep everyone safe, similar to a parent. No more failing anyone like D’Art, or losing anyone like his dad or Eddie.

What I imagine dating Aegon Targaryen would be like 🌸:

Slightly suggestive (you've been warned) 🩷

🌸 With Aegon, I imagine it could be either a marriage he wanted or an arranged marriage proposed by his mother.

🌸 He's very touchy feely, he likes to be touching you all the time (and it's usually borderline groping tbh) but with you he's respectful to your body languages, if you don't want it, he'll back off.

🌸 His love languages are physical contact and words of affirmation.

🌸 His whole life, his parents have been forcing him to be someone he isn't, someone he doesn't want to be so he constantly seeks out your approval that he's doing fine and you still love him and appreciate him and what he's doing. He needs your approval and he needs your praise to feel like he is doing the right thing.

🌸 He wasn't given alot of contact when he was younger, his father wasn't really around and his mother didn't exactly like him, so he never got cuddles or kisses or soft touches, but now he's with you he isn't letting you go. He needs you to hold him and caress him face and kiss him all over his face and wipe away his tears. He NEEDS your contact. And he needs it all the time.

🌸 We all know how he is around the serving girls, he gropes and fondles and touches when he isn't supposed to, he does bad things and he knows it, but you are his voice of reason, you love him but you still scold him when he's done something he shouldn't have done and he loves that about you.

🌸 He always likes to show you off. He's proud that he's got you, and now he wants to flaunt you so he always has you sat beside him, he always has a hand on your body, he always stares at you in a slightly suggestive way.

🌸 He definitely gets jealous, he hates it when other lords or knights try to even talk to you, he will approach you both and wrap his arms around you, groping and kissing you while this poor man watches with a fluster, Aegon will pull away, a sly smirk on his face and his hands grabbing at your body, the man is soon gone.

🌸 Aegon can sometimes act like a man child, he will pout and huff when he doesn't have your attention, he wants your entire attention on him all the time, he won't allow you to have any other thing to focus on except him when you two are alone.

🌸 Sunfyre is Aegons' pride and joy, the dragon was the only thing that loved him for who he was, so when he trusts you enough he will introduce you to his dragon, he will be extremely proud when Sunfyre sniffs and huffs at you, nuzzling his great head into your small body, Aegon will definitely be proud of both you and him for that.

🌸 After the initial introduction, he will always be tugging you to the Dragonpit to ride Sunfyre or just hang out together there in the presence of his dragon.

🌸 When it comes to cuddling Aegon will definitely be clingy, he will have his body wrapped around yours all through the night, he cannot sleep without your presence there, he will nuzzle and sniff at your body and hair and he will most likely lay his head on your chest (if you have boobs he will nuzzle into them, he's wierd like that).

🌸 His kisses are always long and passionate with a hint of lust and need for you, although you can make him bend to your will and stop with enough force in your voice.

🌸 He's very teasing with you, not like Aemond who is subtle, but Aegon is not discrete at all, he will put his hand on your thigh under tables, he will lick at your earlobe when he pretends to whisper something, he will tease you in High Valyrian, he will smirk and watch you with predatory eyes.

🌸 Overall, he is a clingy and needy boy who wants you and only you. 🩷

Max in a corset is an idea of all time

Maybe for some reason or another Omega!Max has to for a sponser event or an FIA gala because of how traditionalist the sport it. But the rest of the grid has never seen him dressed up like that before because he usually prioritizes his comfort (his IRL fashion sense is redbull merch and the same three pairs of jeans). The rest of the grid either goes feral or completely blank when faced with max in a corset like their brain just does not compute. And poor max meanwhile is just like “why is everyone staring at me. Do I look wierd?”

oh this is a brilliant take on it - yes I can totally see the whole FIA set up being inline with a traditional omegaverse set up. Totally random ideas but -

Max has always avoided being a debutante because he doesn't like any fuss. Except there is a very clear rule in the guidelines that state that before a champion can be crown they must have been introduced into Fia society so Max goes along with it so he can collect his trophy.

He finds he kind of likes the way he looks in a corset. He's definitely not going to be swapping his jeans and t-shirts for it but as a one off he feels almost pretty, even if the idea of him looking good makes him blush.

He steps out as part of the Fia ball along with a lot of other younger omegas (seen as its customary to be presented in the season you turn 18 - Max just never did). Max feels self conscious being older and broader and not like the other omegas he is being presented with.

All the grid alphas almost lose their mind because Max looks... well you can imagine Max in a corset! They all try and avoid him for fear they are going to say something inappropriate or try and make a move but Max thinks they are avoiding him because he looks awful and they are embarrassed for him. He keeps trying to cover himself up and feels stupid for ever thinking he might look good.

Someone sees he is upset and lets slip that nobody is asking Max to dance because they are all afraid of Charles!

Doing this completely anon cause I'm genuinely scared of the backlash that may occur - This is controversial and also contradictory so im willing to be shat on for this hot take.

Charles cannot seriously be hoping to win races and be a world champion. I've got no proof just my own absurd theories but I seriously cannot see him becoming a wc. Lando is the same. They both are so alike. One bad race or bad moment and they shit on themselves and lose control and take a week to bounce back from it. I as much as I have love for them and am starting to think they genuinely believe they will win a dc. Oscar and Carlos are the only ones who could on either team as it currently stands. Unlike merc where George could in the team even tho he is lewis' teamate he actually could. But Charles and lando can't unless they change their mindset and team. And tbh to some extent I see both Charles and lando not nearly serious enough about f1 at the moment. And I know 'social media is fake and only shows so much blah blah blah we dont know them personally' but if they gave a fuck they'd risk the money and try and get into redbull. They'd risk thier paychecks and get the money invested into the team. And again I know I don't know what is happening behind the scenes and I'm whatever for saying this but Charles won't win a dc and neither will lando. Max is by far the most authentic, marketable, talented and most relatable driver and I'm a lewis girl (well more lance than lewis but just showing my bias that typically happens with lewis fans).

- Charles isn't dedicated (I believe)

- lando isn't either

- neither will win a wdc

- this celebrity branding thats going on is fucking ridiculous, lewis and max (although he's not nearly as willing to want the title) are the only ones who truly deserve it

- Daniel while yes is charismatic isn't all that talented anymore and would do better in another series. (I included Daniel cause I thought of the celeb status and him)

- and also drivers can only be so relatable and likeable as long as they stay grounded and don't seem so big for their boots and tbh again as a lewis fan (initally) I'm just not really caring for him and the va va voom of him anymore (that was wierd admitting) and when Charles is getting more 'celeb-like' he becomes more unlikable same with lando...

WOAH. Okay we about to get trashed for this but ya know what, idc, I partially agree with you.

I don’t think Charles, or Lando, will ever win a WDC. I think of the two of them Charles is the one with the real shot, because I think he has a much stronger mentality than Lando. I don’t think the pressure gets to him for pressure’s sake the way it does with Lando. I think where Charles knows he doesn’t have the equipment he gets desperate, and mistakes happen. Whereas Lando just can’t seem to hold it together over a weekend, and I think a lot of what affects Lando happens outside the car, which is why he would crumble in a title fight. That said, I think time will run out for Charles, George, Carlos, Lando, etc. Those teams won’t catch up to Red Bull before ‘26 and by then Oscar, and whoever else has come in from the next generation will be younger and hungrier, and the next cycle will start. For me, they will miss their window. I won’t say for sure but that’s my feeling, and if by the end of next season the Ferrari team is not operating like Red Bull (meaning they have a clear #1 driver, and their strategy and pit stops are where they need to be) it will be clear that not even Fred can change the tide and they are an unserious team where Charles will waste his talent.

I disagree that it would be a smart idea to get into Red Bull. Tbh I don’t think Red Bull would want Charles, but that’s another issue. That team is Max’s and it will be until he leaves (or suddenly can’t drive a car anymore but that won’t happen). As a driver, you have to think you’re the best driver, but I don’t think either Charles or Lando is delulu enough to think that they could beat Max in Max’s Red Bull (and this is not me saying they build the car for Max, I’m saying that when Newey hands you a car and Max is saying “make it faster” and everything you do to the car to make it driveable only makes it slower…you are fighting a losing battle). Red Bull would not only be a waste of time for them, but yes, probably a big financial loss, because they both benefit from marketing themselves as #1 drivers at the moment.

I have to say, I agree that it doesn’t seem to me that Charles is as committed to being WDC as he could be. Disclaimer - this is purely based off vibes, I don’t know the guy. I’m not saying he’s not doing his job, he absolutely is, but the self promotion levels, at a time when the results are not resulting…signals to me he’s branching out. I talked a lot last season about how I think he’s transitioning out of the “Il Predestinato” image, and how I felt part of that is because it is becoming less likely that he will win a WDC. I think it’s clever of him to think about doing other things though, because so much of what it takes to get a dc is out of his control, and he doesn’t even have the bare bones of a team or a car that will let him challenge for a title. There is no point in him waiting around for Ferrari to get it together, if they get it together he can revisit but right now…I think it’s in his best interest to get his bag.

I don’t think there’s many similarities between Charles and Lando’s path here, Lando is a wholeeee other essay 😂

But I disagree that the branding is ridiculous, I think it’s a logical thing to do. Yes these guys make good money from their teams but that won’t last forever, they have pretty short careers. It’s good for them to use their platform to build income streams for themselves that will go beyond their F1 career. Charles previously hadn’t been able to do that and now he is, which is definitely a positive. I will give Max and his team props here because I think he’s sneakily got the best alternative income streams of anyone. Verstappen.com must absolutely be raking it in with those grandstand deals, the merch is consistent, his brand deals are minimal but they’re big and they stick with him. My point is, drivers do need alternative income streams, especially when their brand can’t just be “I win”.

Lewis a master at this, I will admit, I just don’t like his brand. But it is consistent and he has managed to transcend F1 as his own brand which will keep him comfortable for the rest of his life, so good for him. I don’t buy into the brand but the brand is branding, I have to recognise.

I don’t really get Charles’s brand identity yet lol so I can’t tell if how likeable it will be. I mean, currently he is very liked, it’s possible it will stay that way. I really couldn’t say. I think Lando is about to have an unlikeable season but I also think his “babygirl brat” thing is pretty amusing and won’t ultimately alienate his fan base.

It was long but it was fun. The villagers will come for us with pitchforks for this opinion though.

Something that just randomly crossed my mind: I love that while Patrick usually bats for the B-Sides, and Pete usually has an ear for the singles, they almost switched places for SMFS at times.

I believe (?) Patrick suggested "Love From The Other Side" as a single, and was surprised when everyone agreed, because he thought the song was too wierd. I can also guarantee that Patrick was behind recording the "We Didnt Start The Fire" cover, being the more overtly political of the two, which also ended up charting for them. Whereas Pete was completely set against the first single being "Flu Game", even though it's probably one of the biggest earworms on the whole album, and would have sounded great on the radio.

I wonder if the lyrics to "Flu Game" have some special meaning to Pete, that he hated the idea of hearing them being played on Top 40 stations? Or if this is a case of him and Patrick having spent so much time together over 22 years and counting, that their personalities and tastes are starting to bleed together even more over time?

Either way, it's always really fascinating to see which songs the two of them connect with, and why!

This is super-interesting because you're right, I think about LFTOS and about WDSTF, which I'm pretty sure it's been said: Pete drove all of FOB crazy for years complaining that somebody should update the song until Patrick was finally like, "Why don't WE do it, then."

But I have to say I'm especially fascinated by the Flu Game observation. My friend who is not a FOB fan but very kindly listened to SMFS for me likes Flu Game the best of all the songs on the album, and she has very pop sensibilities, so as you say, it DOES seem like it could have been a radio hit and Patrick certainly seems to like it and apparently according to Patrick other people really like the song, too, but you're right that Pete seems so virulently against it being a single and it STILL has never been played live, which seems extra deeply weird to me. We've talked before about how hiatus-y Flu Game is, and it does make you wonder if Pete considers the song too personal to be played live, the way he used to consider so many of their songs too personal to be played live. A lot of them have been played now, but they've been around for years and are part of the healing. Maybe this one hasn't gotten there yet. Maybe this one is still too fresh and new.

Tonys eye flicker through the big ballroom with the fanciest people to the fanciest food. The night was calm and cold,people talking while soft music played as white noise.The room filled with many different people,that you wouldnt usually see in one room,presidents,models,bussiness people and the list goes on.There was no lust or life to the party if we wanna put it that way or as Tony thought.He was tired of the people it was 12:13PM and the party started at 6:30PM,he has been walking from people to people,giving them the brightest smile,making sure that they were having fun.

He just sneaked out of a conversation with a guy with the excuse of going to the bathroom but he didnt needed to go there,so he immediately took the back door,not caring if the guy sees him.As he stepped outside,he closed the door behind him,it was quiet out here,though the music still could be heard in a muffled version.

His eyes almost immediately dart to the women,leaning on the fence,smoking a cigarette.He knew who it was,they were no strangers.He starts to walk over and lean on the fence next to her,waiting for her to say something,as he realizes that she wont he starts"pretty isnt it?"He said as he looked up at the dark sky,with a small smile in hopes with starting a conversation with her

She looks at Tony with a cold expression as after she blew the smoke out of her mouth,the smoke disappearing soon enough"What do you want?"She asks,Tony usually doesnt come to her so much cause of their history of being forced to be friends cause of their fathers,as they grew up and Tony father passed,theere was no reason to hang out anymore,since there was no one left to impress with their 'healthy bond'

"Is that him?"Tony asks from y/n as his gaze doesnt leave the guy,as he is getting closer to the door.Her head turns to the glass door and her eyes go widen,as she feels her heart miss a beat,it felt like she was a bit dramatic or was it the alcohol getting to her head?"YES"She says loudly,as she sees the guy notice her through the glass,geeting his hand on the door handle,she grabs Tonys suit jacket,making his hips touch the fence,as she quickly put her lips on his.

The kiss was more rushed,forced and quick and as Tony was surprised by the sudden action,he saw the guy open the glass door,so he grabbed her hips bringing their lips together for a more softer kiss,Tony could taste the cig from her lips,but it didnt stop him from going further of his tongue entering her mouth,and their tongue danced together in harmony,as y/n put her hands on the side of his face,trying to keep the cigarette away from his face to not burn him,melting in the kiss,both of them feeling their faces get a bit heated.

The guy looked at the scene disappointed and closed the door and went back to the party.

As she pulled away,Tony stayed in the same position,his eyes a bit widen,like he didnt know what he was doing"well we know whats gonna be in the news next"She said with a small smirk,as she knew that they both had a very big place in the media,Tony couldnt help but chuckle a little

Does anyone else remember how weirdly toxic the MK Fandom was around MKx era? Becuase I do.

Those like handful of blogs that were just getting into beef with random Kano fans and their whole thing was "Kanno is a peice of shit! And so are you for liking this fictional antagonist!!!" I remember a few who put anti-Kano in thier description of their blog and it was just a hobby to shame people for drawing Kano fanart or liking the character in any way. (And a small revival with mk11 since they made him a bear for that game lmao)

Weird uncomfortable age gap shipping... That whole thing about that one artist that drew Cassie cage/subzero stuff and a shit ton of people were like "uh, he's friends with her dad and is like 52. So that's kinda weird." But then it also turned into a headcanon argument bc people were like "yeah subzero definitely watched Cassie cage grow up and he was a part of her childhood." Wich is so funny looking back at it bc there was no need for people to theorise anything about the characters relationship any further than what is Canon for it to be weird.

That fucking Sektor fan who just casually wrote headcanons about Sektor being a huge fucking racist for no goddamn reason?????!?!??? The headcanon specifically was about how they ship him and Cyrax and how Sektor calls him slurs and physically, mentally, and sexually abuses him as part of thier romantic relationship????????????? And they even gave examples of the horribly racist things he says to him¿¿¿? And that Cyrax was just okay with it??? And ended the post with like " I love my evil little man 🥰" No trigger warnings on the post either and when they were critiqued for it they were like "it's realistic and it's just my personal headcanons and you don't have to agree. Sektor is my comfort character and this is just how i see him." -type shit. (Deeper lore about said person. I actually interacted with them way before the headcanon thing. They approached me wanting to rp and they were so controlling they were basically just telling me what to do the whole time. super rude and impatient. So they just suckedl lol.)

Art blogs getting wierd asks that requested them to draw the fem characters in what was very obviously kink art but the asker would ask it in a way to trick the artist into making free fetish art for them. I got so many requests back in the day to "could you draw mileena for me :) but with her jaw wired shut? :)" or "could you draw kitana wereing a new pair of flip flops for me? That would make my day." like ????? Vague to the point of its sus but there were alot of minors in the fandom at the time including myself, i was in highschool at the time. but I was raised on deviantart so I could smell a wierd fetish from a mile away. But I did see other young artists fulfill these requests and several of them completely unaware that they were drawing kink art. Kink art is cool. But not when you're tricking minors into drawing it for you for free. (There was this mileena anon that was the most common one and I swear it was the same dude bc it was always something to do with with her getting her jaw wired shut, her getting bracess, or some other hardware being attached to her jaw/teeth.)

So I replayed "The Marble Nest" recently because i had the chance to and... Hell does it really hit. It's such a different experience to me than the base game because of what emotions it makes you experience throughout and after the conclusion.

So Pathologic 2 is incredible ay pressuring you when it comes to time and consequences, there is a lot at stake because you actively participate in the events of the game. You're not just an eyewitness, you are an active part of this bustling world. And sometimes having this overloaded city to traverse you don't have much time to stop and think about the little things during your strolls back and forth to achieve the best possible outcome. It is filled to the brim with content and dialogue, it is an immersive and beautiful game.

But Marble Nest is not really your story, no. A mere mare (so to speak) of a dying character that wishes that he had done something earlier. Better. But he is unable to. You participate in the events of the day but you are put in your place by the characters constantly mentioning that you either are, or you were suppised to be dead. It's daunting when it doesn't happen once, but twice, and then another time again - and if you have never played TMN before - you have no idea why that is. The narrative is woven in a way that you's expect it - the Pathologic games are specifically known for their metaphysical tangents and supernatural occurances, as well ass odd dream sequences.

Notice how the first day of the Haruspex playthrough starts with a wierd dream. So does the Marble Nest - but whereas Artemy wakes up from the dream and proceeds to go about his life, albeit a hard one - Daniil never wakes up. He is trapped in this endless cycle of reliving the day and effectively - you are his delusion, you don't guide his hands, you are unable to control them.

He is in a heavy state of delirium - the reality of The Marble Nest is grim, with a lot of the people of importance dead. And you cannot do anything about it. You are a dying man - on his wits end, talking to the dead, rolling in his sleep, hot with fever and pale like swamp mud. The fact that the voices you hear around stillwater are not the voice of Eva Yan - who is already long gone (and by the same means as in the original - suggested by the tragedian in the Cathedral) but they are voices of Sticky, and others gathered around your deathbead. Trying to reach you but coming out as gibberish - and you as a renowed doctor are unable to understand it. Because of course you are.

Peter is dead - and the map tells you that Andrey is alive as long as his brother is. Artemy is dead. And you are the sole person responsible for not keeping the isolated districts safe - how much of a burden that is. And how big of a relief you feel when you're given a second chance. How naive.

It calls back to the quote that Artemy hears from executors at the beginning of his run

Once there was a man who wanted to fix everything. He begged on bended knee for a chance to turn back time... And when he got it, history repeated itself. "Good job," we told him. "That's your fate." He asked us, "Once more?".

The overall mood of Marble Nest, even if you van possibly reverse the consequence and somehow conquer death is very bittersweet.

The OST is never aggressive - it's calm and peaceful. It makes the playthrough serene. The dialogues feel like a long lost memory, warmth left after something familiar but long forgotten. You are walking around like a child in the fog and ultimately, whatever you do - you never succeed. The heart. The nuts. Even if you feel like you got this you don't.

I wanted to write this down because somehow when i finished this extension my heart felt really heavy but i felt... Good. Can't say that I did not cry, because of course I did - the conversation with Sticky is one that hurts deep inside and makes one feel chills. But most of all I think that this small bit of a game is written really beautifully, especially considering how we as players identify Daniil as a character. By the end of it you become his thoughts - even if you are never his hands to begin with. You can feel how scared he is, how everything is slipping away and how he loses. And you can read very well how

Wierd I thought I'd done all this before, but I guess I only sorta lightly touched on the royal guard's names but not swords... well in the wake of Shutara's whole thing in the anime I figured it was a good a time as any to revisit stuff...

Hyousube[兵主部] written [兵]: "soldier" and [主部]: "chief division" but probably taken from either Hyouzu temple[兵主神社] which is the name of two different shinto temples in Kishiwada and Tanba cities , or Itatehyouzu[板手兵主神社] in Himeji. None of them seem to bare any direct significance to Hyousube's character, themes, or motifs as best as I can tell. Neither his personal mansion in the royal realm, nor the big temple summon kidou seem directly based on the architecture of any of the temples in question.

Duh there is a yokai just called Hyousube[兵主部] written exactly the same. I have no idea how I let that one slip by me. Makes way more sense than trying to break it down character by character. They are hairy little humanoids that attack people near rivers, they're considered "related" to kappa? I can't tell if that's supposed to be in like a literal taxonomical sense or just a comment on them having similar lore. Ichibee's a little too big, both tall and broad, to really fit the description of the yokai, but he is hairy, so I guess that's the link. They are said to cause or otherwise spread disease, and in some remote regions are considered a kind of minor god of war. They have a distinctive hideous laughter.

Anyway the name Ichibee[一兵衛] is written [一]: "one," and [兵衛]: "imperial guard." It has a neat sort of mirror with Ichigo's name being [一護]: "one protect" and [一...衛]: "one...defense."

But that's stuff I've covered before, but I realize i never touched on his sword stuff. His shikai's name is Ichimonji[一文字] and is literally the whole word for "straight line" but if you want to break it down, it's just [一]: "one" [文]: "literary" [字]: "character" but [文字]: "written character" like a letter of the alphabet, and shaped like a [一]; It's totally selfdescript. In fact, in the actual weekly print the tagline on the page where he first releases it and ends the chapter is a play on words on the fact. I wish I still had the raws but anything I had on that issue of weekly shounen jump are long long gone.

His release call is Kuromeyo[黒めよ]: "blacken" literally just the verb "to make black." Viz took some liberties with "paint it black," but I kind of like how it plays into the paintbrush.

Oh but most translations i've seen really screwed up the whole proto-bankai thing. The term Shinuchi[真打] that I've seen taken literally as "True Strike" ignores a few things, not the least of which being that [打] does not mean "strike" when pronounced "uchi." But more importantly the whole word shinuchi[真打] is a specific word referring to a star performer or headliner, but also a high rank of rakugo performer. Rakugo being a type of storytelling in yose theater, a smaller stage with minimal dressing, and a more intimate small crowd. It has, a specific type of theater/stage and even a specific style of font all tied to the subculture and aesthetic around it.

The new-ish and ongoing shounen jump manga, Akane-banashi is about a highschool girl getting into Rakugo and is probably the best crashcourse both for westerners and just a younger generation of Japanese who are less familiar with the art form, to come out in years. Totally worth checking out.

More specifically, Rakugo is a form of storytelling characterized by comedy, wordplay, and long often confusing or at least complicated plots. The lone actor plays all roles, doing voices, faces, and hand gestures. More to the point, part of the history of Rakugo traces back to Buddhist monks called otogishu[御伽衆]: lit. "honorable entertainer (of) the masses" who were often appointed specifically to be a kind of personal conversational partner to samurai lords, and thus well versed in telling entertaining stories as well as reciting Buddhist sutras, myths, and teachings.

And the bankai/shinuchi name itself, Shirafude Ichimonji[しら筆一文字] just tacks on shira[白]: "white" and fude[筆]: "brush."

Anyway, all that to say that the reason Ichibee is a monk, has a thing about word play, and calls his sword a main attraction is because of the rakugo theme holding it all together. It also accounts in part for his boisterous and comedic personality, his extreme facial expressions, and his techniques being set up like rakugo jokes with a kind of twist/punchline to them.

The monk theme is also where Ichibee's paintbrush gimmick comes from, as zen buddhism specifically gave rise to Hitsuzen-dou[筆禅道] the "Brush Zen-way," which emphasized calligraphy as a medium for deep meditation on the subjects of the writing. It's why Ichibee has command over true names and this deep abstracted meaning of concepts. The most basic and iconic aspect of Zen buddhism is the contemplation of the ensou[円相]. And in fact the use of giant brushes is a common spectacle with its own aesthetic sensibilities in the calligraphy, so other than having a blade, Ichibee's zanpakutou is actually not an exaugurated design at all. That's legit just a size those brushes come in.

WHEN I TELL U THAT I DID THINK ABT IT AFTER THE FIRST SONIC ASK-

Here's also the ask in question for ref.

Well imma leave you with a short intro, bcs there's so much to unpack. This thing was in my mind basement for a while :'3

We start off with a smol timeskip! :D

And during that timeskip, things do happen around: Mainly school activities. For Ortho, school was a bit more difficult when you and your buddies are known around as the supernatural powered dudes who fought the corrupted mad scientist and a fraction of the government. This made some things like sports events or extra activities to be more complicated than intended.

The most shocking thing tho was *gasp* Idia managed to pull a date?!?!

Our group was absolutely baffled when Idia revealed that he ended up hitting around dating 2 dudes: 1 silly library guy and one who owns a small restaurant in their little town. And they were decent people too!

The only problem was that, like most people who were not involved in the said adventure (either directly involved, related or witnesses) Azul and Malleus, Idia's boyfriends, don't know that the firehead was much more than just some silly alien guy. And Idia insisted at our first years group to keep it that way, because it was 1 talk that the latter found it pretty hard to address.

Now our new adventure starts by the end of the school year. There was the school prom! And being such a small town(almost a village if you will), the school prom was a pretty popular event around. Kinda a spice to the, otherwise boring, days around.

But before that, there was the academic scores settling. And everything. A lot of tests coming up and a lot of grades filling in. Ortho would say that he was a top student and he shouldn't fear when his grade situation gets mailed out, yet still, he was on literal edge for mail day, which Idia took it as odd. Doesn't help that Ortho inheritantly was super fast, thus he always grabbed the mail before his brother and went through it at lightning speed.

One day, Ortho comes back from school, to find that the mail came later today, while he was in class and it wasn't a skip day, and Idia took it before him. Of course, the dread was very real and the rest of the first years, who knew exactly what was up, tried to reassure their buddy that 'hey, we all got the same fate in there'.

Idia, naturally, wasn't that happy with a particular class Ortho had: Socials. While he had a nearly perfect score everywhere else, socials was a mediocre one, bearly passing. Idia couldn't complain about Literature or Arts, he knew those old ass teachers still were petty and poured their hate on the kids, still Ortho had pretty good grades at them. The socials was where Idia found it wierd. And naturally, he asks the group about it, when Sebek blurts out that all of them have the same grade.

Turns out that, since the incident, the school implemented an obligatory class: Socials. And for this, they got a teacher from a bigger city, who happens to also have a much more 'different' approach to things. Our group doubts any class in this school has an actual great grade at that particular class, so please, Idia, excuse them, maybe buy them consolatory ice-cream while at it? :'3

Idia does excuse them, but insists that, if socials are mandatory next year too, the group will try to do better in there. Now they only had a few school days left, so he couldn't really hope the grades will 'magically fix themselves'.

Hey, at least they are passing! :'D

Still, that day, Epel points out that Idia was much more fidgety, hence his very messy reaction to the grades. He was all over the place and, clearly, he was a few secs away from causing an earthquake. The latter just shows up his hand, which had an engagement ring on it.

Long story short, Malleus proposed today and, of course, Idia and Azul accepted with no 2nd thoughts. The librarian really was rushing into things whenever he saw green light apparently. :'3

So all summer, Idia was preparing mentally and physically for the marriage. For him, it was a more important task to see how he could break the news to his fiancés about the fact that he is literally the god of this planet. Ortho did try to reassure that the best case scenario: nobody has a heart attack or faints! What a good option! :D

By the end of the summer, the plans were made: an early autumn wedding, with the venue on a more retreated beach. Very little touches had to be done until the big day itself and Idia was getting restless as it approached.

Ortho really saw it as both a very beautiful thing and as a problem. On one hand, he liked Idia's fiancés and he would be very happy with the resulting marriage, especially if it made his big brother happy, but on the other hand, everything was moving very fast and, clearly, Idia had a harder time keeping the pace than Ortho. The rest of the first years are also trying to help Idia with his Woes, but it's pretty hard to calm him down. On more than one occasion, Idia was back to his big form, hid behind trees and mountains and simply processing the situation while our group talked to him, mostly to keep him grounded from making all kinds of imaginary scenarios and worrying himself more.

It was time tho, for Ortho's 2nd year of high-school. He was pretty excited about it, until he heard that socials were, yet again, a mandatory class. Doesn't help that Idia's wedding was in the first school weekend. The good part, Alex, Ace's big brother, was helping Idia when our group was at classes. (they became proper friends at the end of their adventure)

So with around 5 days until the big day, things were slowly looking out to be better. Things were settled, programs were fine and everything was coming together very nicely.

Except that things couldn't be very nice all the time.

Our lil group was out through town one evening, when they stumble across another alien, this one set on hunting the Shrouds. Of course, upon noticing Ortho, it escalated into a fight.

And now, this guy was freakishly agile. It didn't help that the red marks on his body, along the bright red hair, indicated that his origins were, definitely, from the same planet Idia and Ortho came from. Still, he reffers to Ortho as a 'threat' and thus has to handle it upon the rules of his homeland: by killing the boy.

Of course, things get much more clear when Crowley returns, saying that this is his new little ally. Thankfully, before shit can actually hit the fan, our group is saved by a misterious blonde guy, who can apparently shapeshift into any person.

That guy is Vil Schonenheit, upon his introduction. The other one was Riddle, an esteemed guard of temple of the core, from their home planet. He does make a short history of why Riddle was so set on killing Ortho.

Many years ago, a Shroud actually achieved a tie with their planet core, thus absolving immortality and immense power. The chaos emeralds were expelled to earth, while the said Shroud was locked in the temple of the core, as to prevent any wish of destroying their home. Riddle came from a line of guards who trained all their life to guarding the said temple. If anything went wrong, the guards were trained so that they could kill anything except a Shroud that was already tied to a core.

Vil also adds that he was not a guard, but an entertainer. He was, initially, given as a sacrifice by his, now deceased, mother, to please the 'diety', but he was spared, even so, the Shroud protected him from his prison, until he was old enough to venture back to his worried father. Thus he was forever indebted to that man. His wife was killed by the guards and he was unable to do anything but watch, believing that his children suffered the same fate too. So when Crowley came forth, his presence angered the Shroud. Crowley preached about 2 more of that kind here, on Earth. Riddle was chosen to accompany Crowley and get rid of the said threats, while Vil was told to go and stop this, to protect the Shroud's 2 sons.

Ortho is, rightfully, very shook by this revelation, but our group insist that already Idia tied in with Earth's core. Vil now is genuinely worried about this, because it's either Idia accepts to be locked away forever or he gets forcefully put to sleep by the guardians, once they find out what happened. Crowley didn't say anything about one of the brothers actually achieving this oh so feared form, so they didn't think too much on how deep this thing is.

For now, Riddle was on their trail, so as to not worry Idia, Ortho played the 'I'm having a sleepover at Ace so u could smooch with your fiancés before the wedding' card. It worked! Idia was too flustered to fully question why the sudden decision. :P

Alex is also very taken aback by this new trouble our group got into. Like being chased by the government wasn't enough, huh?! Still, he complies on trying to divert Idia's attention off this mess while the rest try to get Riddle to realise that Crowley is using him for the emeralds.

Cue a lot of running around. Riddle was 1 relentless mf. :'3

But, on their now daily chases, our group gets in mingling with the secret services. Again. :'D

Long story short, they caused a lot of trouble. Crowley was still on the loose, with his new little puppet being a force to reckon with. So the course of action taken by the said secret services was to take Idia in custody until Riddle gets wind of it and walks right into the trap.

It was a horrible plan, really. Especially with the upcoming wedding. :'3

We get introduced to Jade and Floyd, 2 secret service agents in the new branch of 'dealing with alien threats'. They actually prove to be a thorn in Riddle's sides, especially Floyd who is relentlessly taunting the redhead, thus allowing for Riddle to be distracted mid altercation.

And oh, is Riddle fuming! He became so enraged that the second he spots even the tiniest hair of Floyd, he goes tunnel vision and hunts that guy for the life of him. This put breaks in Crowley's plans enough so our group could actually devise a proper plan. The wedding was actually tomorrow and they were running out of time. Idia had to find out one way or another. Preferably after the wedding itself, ya know. :'3

But, first, the wedding! It was a very pretty location, still warm due to the early autumn, and it was small, pretty retreated.

Except that crow man cannot help but bust that shit too. Imagine Riddle's surprise when he sees 2 Shrouds, one who shows the signs of his bind to the planet's core.

BUT! Before anyone could do anything against it, it turns out a good chunk of the guests and the catering team were secret government agents. Azul also was one, pretty obvious after he pulled a mf gun on Riddle.

Turns out Azul was dispatched on a discreet operation of supervising Idia, which he really wasn't supposed to end up marrying him. So there's that. :P

Everything is messed up and so overwhelming that Idia actually snaps under the pressure and shows the full extent of his power: a gigantic being of magma and fire, raising walls and waves to separate people from each other.

Poor Malleus, he's the only guy who literally has no idea what is happening. Please, let him get married in peace. :'3

Naturally, Riddle's approach is to confront Crowley about lying to him, that none of the 2 is actually tied to the planet's core. This complicates things. Idia cannot be killed, because if he dies, so will the planet slowly, due to how young Idia was. Crowley was aware of this effect and still pushed the redhead to hunt the Shrouds.

Truth was, Crowley still wanted the chaos emeralds. And Idia, along with our group, had them. By having Riddle hunt them, Crowley was sure he could back them up and get the emeralds one by one.

Cue Idia losing his shit at that revelation. Like, it's a lot to take in today. His wedding was crashed, Crowley is back, apparently more aliens from his original birthplace came here, his father is alive, Ortho was hunted, and one of his almost husband was a secret agent, initially tasked with supervising him.

Cue grabbing crow man and chucking him through the ocean. Like if he dies, Idia doesn't fricking care. He's done and over and now he's staying criss-crossed, sulking as a petty kid, except that he's basically an all powerful diety of this earth. :'3

Still, Ortho tries to reach out to him, with the help of the rest of the group, Ortho manages to climb on Idia's shoulder and try to talk to him, firstly apologising for hiding the whole hunting thing from him. Idia accepts the apology, adding that he was worried sick when this whole thing got to light. Then Ortho urges to forgive Azul too, because he genuinely seems to love him and Malleus. And the 2 most likely are trying to see how to approach this whole thing. Idia is a bit hesitant, but he does allow Ortho to hug his cheek, before putting him gently down and grabbing Azul with Malleus. After they had a short talk, it was pretty obvious the small 2 kisses on the cheek and Idia seemed pretty happy as he finally rested back to his human form.

The wedding is still on tho! Except that most of the fancy dressing is torn or dirty from the fight around. :v

Idia gets properly introduced to Vil and Riddle. Being in an actual good mood, Idia does forgive Riddle, mostly since Crowley did manipulate him into this shit. The redhead does insist that if word goes back to the council of guardians, Idia will have to be locked away. That's how they kept his father too, in fear of destroying their planet. Buuuuuttttt if Riddle and Vil were here to, let's say, take care of this, then technically they could report that Idia was 'settled down' and it was safe. :3

The nice part, Vil and Riddle did settle in with new thing in their little town. Riddle as a teacher, while Vil as a theatre manager(upon promotions) so it was pretty chill and not anymore fear of other aliens possibly coming down to hunt the Shroud brothers.

The not so nice part: our group is still almost failing at socials :'3

A thing tho, was that our bros did ask Vil and Riddle if it's possible to see their father. The 2 said that for Ortho, it could be easier, but for Idia, due to still being fresh, him leaving the planet now, even for a bit, it could result in natural disasters left and right. Their best shot is having the father coming here, but that was, upon their words, impossible to achieve with the current guardian situation. Being tied to the core for much longer, Mr Shroud could leave it to be independent for a while, but, again, the guardians won't allow such thing.

So for now, they have no option but to leave it as that. U-Ub

Can you talk more about the issues with jancy and why they need to do a lot of talking if it is to be endgame?

Anon, are you giving me permission to once again complain about Jancy’s unresolved problems?

I always took issue with how the fandom tended to view their relationship through these rose-tinted glasses, especially post vol. 2, when there were some major issues regarding their relationship that was yet to be addressed.

I think Jancy is in love and could believably be endgame, but GOD if these issues get brushed off simply and they stay together without these conflicts being resolved, it would be bad writing.

The two main conflicts between Jonathan and Nancy are the same thing that kept them seperated: Jonathan’s daddy issues and Nancy putting her career ambitions before the people she loves.

Jonathan can’t bring himself to do what he wants out of fear of becoming like his father. Moreover, but Emerson isn’t even the college that Jonathan wants to go to, which isn’t even counting the NYU thing from season one. He plainly states that he doesn’t want to go Emerson to Argyle!

For Nancy, I’m in no way trying to say “working woman bad” but Nancy does need to find a balance between her ambitions and her loved ones. In season two, Nancy uses investigative journalism to bring justice for Barb, but in season three her passion for it escalates to where it blinds her and she doesn’t consider Jonathan’s feelings (“Here comes the Oliver Twist routine”) and in season four she doesn’t visit him despite clearly wanting to because she dedicates herself to the school paper instead. I’m not saying Nancy shouldn’t be career driven, but I don’t think it would be very “empowering-girl-boss” if she closed herself off from everyone she loves for it.

For Nancy we do see a bit of a change from her when she opens up a little and lets Robin in. With Robin, Nancy learns to lean on others for help and allow them to influence her work. It doesn’t, however, resolve her miscommunication with Jonathan, and unfortunately Jonathan’s personal issues have not yet seen a resolution either. And at the end of the season, Jonathan has still not told Nancy about not applying to Emerson, and Nancy did still have that whole wierd thing with Steve this season.

My ideal ending for these two would be for them to stay together but go to seperate colleges, although only time will tell for that. I do believe that these two can work out their problems given how much we are shown that they do genuinely care about each other and want to put in the work, but oh god, if all of that goofiness happened last season and it’s just brushed off without even a conversation? That would just be bad writing. What was it all for then?
