My absolute sincerest apologies, but that specifically isn’t a topic I’m particularly comfortable speaking on at the moment because I have approximately zero knowledge of any food-specific trauma responses other than observing one person who will not be named and one of my dogs who used to be a stray. And as much as I love Dora I don’t think we want me comparing Fiona to a stray husky found on the streets of Texas growling at my other dog for getting too close to her food bowl and making me scared of her for a solid week. I will absolutely find time to research that (if I don’t forget) but as of now I don’t have an answer

Ok, so I’m writing a novel involving paranormal investigation (no relation to you, takes place in a fictional town) and I’m on my third draft when the main character shows up behind me, grabs and turns me around to tell me of the “inaccuracies to his case”. Now I wrote them down and how I should change them. And when I looked up from my notepad, he was gone.
I want to continue, and most of these I feel like I can implement within the story, but what exactly happened? And if this becomes a series, will he continue to pop up, or was it one of those “one in a blue moon scenarios”?
And what do I do if it isn’t?

So. You have encountered an entity from a fictional property. You're excited - maybe you wanted to talk to your favorite book character. Or. Maybe you are a writer and you are excited to talk to your protagonist. But...is that entity real?

When encountering a parafictional manifestation, remember the three S's.

Solidity: are you are this entity is physical and not all in your head?
Subjective: if it's real, are other people seeing the same thing?
Sentience: is this entity sentient, or merely approximating sentience? Is it answering questions like a sentient entity, or like how it would be expected to answer?
<It cuts back to the man, standing behind the chair with his hands on the back. There is a too-long pause again.>
If...uh.
If this entity doesn't pass any of these easy-to-remember checks, that's a red flag. Any number of malicious extranormal entities can exploit the human capacity for creativity in order to feed on our psychic energy, creating a non-sentient construct we call a "Chinese Room" in order to keep YOU from asking questions.
Remember next time you see Darth Vader, Spider-man, or Tarzan - are you so incredibly lucky to experience such a rare phenomena as true parafictional manifestation?

Do you have any tips for ADHD writers, especially for motivation and getting WIPs done?
Outlines don't work for me like 99% of the time, so outside of some worldbuilding/character notes and such, I just pants my way through my stories for the most part.

Zimt, your AU has me in a chokehold and I love it so much. I'm really curious about Mello and Matt's time at Wammy's. What were their interactions with other students like? (Linda, Helix, other ocs, etc). I know you said Mello was quite hostile around other people (at least at first), and that Matt's sense of humor tended to go over people's heads/annoyed people, and now I'm just curious to see how things played out. It makes me laugh to think of Mello having beef with people other than Near, he was a menace.
Sidenote, this is a MelloMatt convo I'm 99% certain happened at Wammy's:

Unfortunately I'm not witty enough to write the clever jokes and schemes Matt and Mello annoyed people with at Wammy's :'D Feel free to give me ideas though, I love reading your little snippets!! (I'm super slow at drawing/writing atm but I keep taking notes from every ask!)
BUT! I imagine Mello having the same skill as BBC Sherlock: analyzing people from head to toe by just a single glance and then catching them off guard with information or assumptions he has no way of knowing. As a kid, he naturally lacks the life experience to do this as accurately as Sherlock, but the basics are there. This feels like a heavy invasion of privacy and people, especially his peers who might be geniuses but have the emotional maturity of kids, tell Mello to piss off whenever he does this. Mello, on the other hand, feels vindicated when he can accurately pinpoint information about someone through careful observation but he's so completely socially incompetent, he cannot understand why people feel attacked if he tells people their entire life story, what they had for breakfast and that they should see a doctor for their hemorrhoids, unprompted. He's right, after all, isn't he?? Why are people pissed?? And I think you can see why this spirals into Mello driving everybody away and everbody thinking Mello is the biggest arsehole.

i wanna start making comics but like. i dont really know how??? are there any tips that you could give me perhaps?
hi!
i've been working on trying to compile a list of resources for people (@aangsfrogs--i didn't forget!) who want to make comics for a long time. It would consist of some of my personal tips and a lot of links to other people's PDFs and youtubes. But that's...a hefty project, so if you had any specific questions for the meantime, my askbox is open!
But, for just beginning, here would be my tips:
Read comics. Read manga and webcomics and cartoons and medical comics. There is so much out there, and reading is such a big way to learn. If you see something you like, take a moment to think about why you like it. Are the expressions or colors appealing? Did it make you feel a certain emotion? Analyze what the artist may have done to get across what they did. (Is it the camera angle? the style they chose to draw in? the paneling? the pacing? the color? etc.) Doing this over time will help you recognize the tools available for telling stories through this medium, and you'll be able to put them in your own work.
Try to think about what you want to make comics about. What moves you? What topics interest you? What ideas or tropes do you love in media or think about often? What do you hate and wish was done better? What characters are you drawn to, or what characters do you want to create? (What about them compels you?) I find it's hard to create an idea out of thin air, but if you start writing down random ideas you have, you'll start thinking about them, and over time, you'll have a bank of things to pull from when you want to create.
Lastly, anatomical skill or knowledge of color does not a comic make! You don't have to know much to begin, and there aren't rules. Just start drawing what is meaningful to you!
This is just cursory and doesn't get into super specifics like paneling or scripts or plotting or colors or thumbnailing or....etc, but I'll try to expand my list of resources and get that out! And, hmu if you have any specific questions on topics!

Scott McCloud's Understanding Comics and his Making Comics. These books are taught in like, every comic class ever. While not my complete favorite, they do a good job of showing some history and fundamentals, and how easy it is to make comics even if you don't have a lot of drawing experience.
99 Ways to Tell a Story: Exercises in Style by Matt Madden: Really good if you don't know how to start analyzing comics. (Also it's just a fun visual exercise.) It shows the same short story done in 99 different styles with different emphasis on different moods and points of view.
The PreHistory of The Far Side: A 10th Anniversary Exhibit by Gary Larson and The Calvin and Hobbes: Tenth Anniversary Book by Bill Watterson: Two great books with work from my two favorite cartoonists. They both have writings from the author about getting ideas, developing stories, and being a comic artist.
Uncanny Bodies: Superhero Comics and Disability, edited by Scott T. Smith and José Alaniz and Black Comics: Politics of Race and Representation, edited by Sheena C. Howard and Ronald L. Jackson II: These two aren't really about making comics, but they are great collections of analysis about old and new comics alike.
By no means a complete list, but some good ones that I can think of off the top of my head.
There's also the book Webtoon School: Everything you need to know about webtoon creation and story writing. To be honest, I didn't read this completely through because it was a bit more fundamental than I was expecting, but it gives a good cursory look of how to write comics if you're just starting out! It covers some history, how to write stories and arcs, etc.
Also, look to your favorite writers! A lot of webtoon/webcomic artists do tutorials or youtube videos. for instance, velnxi has this great tutorial up I really suggest looking at here.

Thoughts About Being in a Relationship with HSR Characters
So like we all love to fantasize about being in a relationship with fictional characters but would we want to actually be in one? As a huge fan of the Aeons I did a quick overview. Even though getting into a relationship with one is widely unrealistic (actually impossible because they're video game characters but even in game it's unrealistic).

Aha
Wow, Aha is such a goofy Aeon sure the chaos they cause is insane but there's never a dull moment with them around. But like imagine being in the HSR universe and being in a relationship with this Aeon. 99% chance of death (because of a prank), that 1% chance is saved if for some reason you can't be killed.
Literally miserable. You know how you try to have like a normal conversation with your dad, or guy friend, or boyfriend but they just don't take shit seriously. Like they avoid the topic 24/7 because of jokes. Imagine trying to have a serious conversation with this guy, actual terrible experience.
In a modern AU would be one of those prank YouTubers that like pretends to kill your friend as a prank but actually does kill your friend, it's not a prank. Why aren't you laughing?

If still alive 10/10 in the HSR universe, 9/10 in modern AU. I am down to travel all over the cosmos but since I have a normal life here on Earth I am perfectly happy staying in my room, writing, coding, and drawing. But Akivili would def bring back some banger souvenirs and pictures even if you're just a friend of theirs.
If dead then 10/10 in both.

Okay serious question do you think they'd taxidermy their lover? Like I know in HSR there's not really that option (their lover could be one of the memokeepers I guess?) but in Modern AU I feel like they'd taxidermy their lover. I don't know if that's a plus or a negative.
Definitely the kind of Aeon to be hung up on their first love so you better hope you're that first love. Or else they'll be reminiscing over memories and old photos and old videos and constantly comparing them to you-- man that sucks. Probably would take you out to nice dinners though and give you lots of good memories.
In Modern AU I feel like the idea of Fuli gets 10 times more mystical and also 10 times creepier, like someone that tries to record all of the events in the world but also the events happening right now. So historian, journalist combo, except I feel like they would just appear out of nowhere and then just go back to the void and post a bunch of random photos online. They'd definitely have observed their lover before talking to them (likely several times) which is the creepy aspect.
7/10 for the memories.

Actual 10/10 you cannot argue otherwise on this. Okay, you definitely can but 10/10 in my book aside from the fact you die but like you'll either be accepting your death and dying or spend the rest of your life trying to prove IX wrong about the purpose of life.
Wouldn't take you on dates, you'd have to take IX on dates, plan the whole thing out, really fluster them, give them the time of their existence. And IX would sit there like the gentleman... gentlewoman? Gentle creature it is. I feel like they would be very polite :)
In Modern AU I'm pretty sure IX is just your average office worker who hates their life and sees no point to it but for some reason can't die. 9/10. IX loses one point for no longer being a blackhole.
Lan
Honestly... another gentle creature, and like respectfully, very respectfully I would love to take them out on a date. Seems respectful, apparently pays close attention to mortals so there's a higher chance of Lan keeping their lover alive if they're (Lan's lover) a mortal. Pretty sure 90% of the Aeons would accidentally kill a mortal lover.
Just seems very obsessed with their goals and honestly I respect the grind. 8/10, your average grinder. That being said Lan is also absolutely beautiful but I'm not a big horse person.
In Modern AU Lan would be someone that's trying to change the world, one of those go getters. Again very respectful, and cool but would probably work 16 hours a day which makes holding a relationship pretty hard. 7/10.
Mythus
I haven't done Gold and Gears or finished Swarm Disaster but damn Mythus is really hot. Smash. Uh 6/10 because I don't know their personality or even what they represent but they are really beautiful. I like the jellyfish.
Nanook
Aw man, the moment I saw this guy I knew they would haunt my thoughts. And yeah they do. So beautiful from the molten lava, golden eyes, white hair, man if only they didn't have the personality of an absolute asshole. Like I write fanfiction about Nanook sometimes (pretty rarely) and I can say I am literally pulling every possible string I can to make this Aeon a good lover and somewhat in character.
This is just because I like writing lovers that are semi-decent, it's pretty hard when you get to people like Nanook but I do my best. There's no way a relationship with Nanook would work out feasibly because there's no way they'd love you.
But if they did... I don't know, Nanook is still a pretty bad person for trying to kill everything else in the world so I'm gonna have to dock some points for that. Reminds me of the brooding quiet, only soft spot is for you, male lead troupe except Nanook is trying to murder everyone 24/7.
In Modern AU, I don't even know what Nanook would be? An assassin? A serial killer? I can kind of see like a revolution leader cause apparently they were born from the flames of a world in complete destruction and they saw everything as ugly and destruction as the only possible outcome. I can see a twist with Nanook leading a revolution in hopes of creating a more beautiful world but finding destruction as the only possible outcome that will remove the plague known as life.
Even if they loved you, they'd be very busy with their revolution plans, and I feel like you'd probably be caged away somewhere far away from the danger so you'd barely see Nanook if they wanted to keep you alive.
2/10, 2 points for being so FUCKING beautiful. Thanks Hoyoverse for making a character so attractive.
Qlipoth
Okay Qlipoth would be like big puppy partner, you get me. Like golden retriever vibes or uh... that one person that watches over everything to make sure you're safe but not like in the stalker way. Like the government, y'know? Except the government now wants to make sure you're safe! :D
I am a bit thrown off by the fact Qlipoth is a rock but I'm even more thrown back by the IPC. Like they're really fucking annoying (not as individuals I love Topaz and Aventurine) they're like Qlipoth's lil fanclub. They'd also be Qlipoth's fanclub in Modern AU, I'd imagine and I will imagine.
Also they're a bit sus, like I know they're great, but they want to build a wall. What's the wall for, huh?
Anyway as a partner sure they're a rock, and have an annoying fanclub but they'd probably be really caring and would be able to destroy anything that threatens you. I'd imagine it's about the same in Modern AU but destroy anything with money.
Nothing is stronger than money, actually a nuke is but we're going to assume none of the Modern AU versions of the characters would have access to that or make their own because that would change the game.
I'd say 7/10 in both HSR and Modern AU, I don't know they're just kinda sus...
Tayzzyronth
I'm about half way through the swarm disaster and question time--
If insect, why hot? Like I hate bugs, mainly flying ones, but like why is Tayzzyronth half insect half human 100% beautiful? Anyway from what I know they basically became an Aeon because they were lonely and like the last one of their species and honestly, they deserve a hug for that.
Still absolutely terrifying and if you were in a relationship with them you'd probably be smothered with the Swarm which is beyond terrifying. Would be significantly better in Modern AU where they wouldn't have insects around them all the time. 4/10 in HSR and 7/10 in Modern AU.
Xipe
Don't know them but they're so beautiful and with a path like the Harmony they've got to be good, right? Right?

Yaoshi
I think Yaoshi is the Aeon I most actively thirst for, like they're so beautiful, and they pull off deranged love so well. They would keep their lover alive until their lover goes insane because of mara. And they're super kind, and empathetic. The threat of becoming mara struck is one I would take just to be in their presence. 10/10.
In Modern AU! they'd be so beautiful, still, like one of those fragile looking beauties that would just approach you randomly and then ask, "Are you in pain?" And it'd be really creepy but because it's Yaoshi it'd be okay and you'd fall in love like instantly. Don't answer yes to the question though. I feel like they'd have mad scientist vibes, probably would do unethical experiments which doesn't really sit right with me. Again, would try to keep their lover alive no matter what but they'd be really nice. 9.5/10.
Alright so I did this in 30 minutes instead of working on my presentation which is due tomorrow and I haven't finished research for.
Again this was just for fun, all of the Aeons have super great designs and are super cool imo :) props to Hoyoverse for this

Okay, so, here's part one of however many of these "Tech's Alive" posts I’m going to write, but, before I get into it, I wanted to be really clear about my intentions: I'm not trying to get anyone's hope's up. Please take everything with a grain of salt. And I'm absolutely not trying to police the way that anyone feels about what happened. Everyone who was really attached to this character or who saw themselves in this character is dealing with this in their own way because, hey, potentially losing a character that you identified with or made you feel better about yourself sucks. For some people, that means ripping the bandaid off and assuming the worst, and that's valid. And I know that there are a lot of us out there who are feeling like Tech's character development this season happened only to twist the knife when they killed him, and feeling either betrayed or emotionally manipulated because of it. I could change my mind, but I'm personally choosing to disagree pretty strongly with that interpretation of the writers' intentions, but I do understand why people are feeling that way, and those feelings are valid, too. All I'm trying to do here is lay out my personal interpretations of the writers' intentions, and to make my case for why I believe with my whole heart that Tech's alive and on his way back. So.
Tech's Alive, Part One: The Terrain May Actually Be In Tech's Favor (content warning for death, injury, and frank but not graphic discussions of why extreme falls are often deadly):
Emphasis on "may" here, since we can't actually see much of it, and this is the weakest and least important piece of evidence. But, here goes.
Now that I've actually been able to feel my feelings about this whole thing, I have gone back and rewatched most of Plan 99, and something that struck me on rewatch was that the rail car doesn't appear to just be above a valley. We do see bits that are a long way down through some breaks in the clouds, and you have some main mountain peaks that are sticking up over the clouds, like the one connected to the main cable car station and the other with Tarkin's evil lair, but there are actually a number of smaller peaks just barely poking out above the clouds, including some fairly close to where Tech fell. This means that the terrain beneath the cloud cover, and into which Tech is falling the last time we see him, probably looks less like this:

This is a good thing.
There's a common misconception that someone who falls from an extreme height will be dead before they hit the ground. Now, people who fall can and sometimes do die during the fall, but it's not the falling itself that kills them. It's the panic. Or, rather, the potential heart attack that results from the panic, especially if they have a pre-existing heart condition. Or, if they're falling from high enough, asphyxiation due to the lack of oxygen at extreme (we're talking peak of Everest and above extreme) altitudes, but this is fairly rare. The "terminal" in terminal velocity doesn't refer to the speed at which falling becomes deadly; it refers to the point at which a falling object can no longer accelerate and will, if it doesn't experience an increase or decrease in friction or run into another object, maintain that speed through rest of the descent. No, it's not the fall that kills you--it's the landing.
Terminal velocity of a human body in a belly down, horizonal position is around 120 mph. With a human body in a more vertical position, it's closer to 150-180 mph. The sudden transition upon impact from either of those speeds to 0 mph ruptures pretty much everything necessary for, well, life almost instantly. So, what a person in freefall needs to survive the landing is something to slow their descent to survivable speeds before impact.
This is why Alan Magee, a WWII airman who survived a 22,000 foot fall, was able to survive. He crashed through the glass ceiling of a rail station, which slowed his descent enough that he was able to survive hitting the ground a second or two later. This is also, incidentally, why Hunter was able to survive his fall on Daros. The height from which he fell would be unsurvivable if he fell unimpeded, but we're shown that his fall is broken multiple times, by sliding down the cliff, hitting trees, etc, on the way down, meaning that he was never able to reach a speed at which the impact of the landing would have killed him and making his survival more plausible (even if his complete lack of serious injury isn't as much.)
Bringing this back around to Tech: Tech is falling and he needs to slow down. And, just before the camera cuts away from him, he does appear to be trying to do that; we see him throw his shoulders back and start to flip onto his stomach, which will slow him down, if not enough to survive. He’s willing to die to save his family, but he’s also trying to give himself the best chance. But if the terrain he's falling into really is dotted with mountains rather than being a straight fall into a flat valley, Tech’s got a good chance of not hitting the ground with a sudden, deadly impact. If Tech can fall into a slope, especially an extreme slope, that means his fall won't stop immediately. He'll continue to fall, but it'll break his fall, and he'll have a much better chance of slowing his descent before final impact, or even of stopping gradually, all of which makes the fall more survivable. Furthermore, he's maybe still attached to that rail car, meaning:
1. The rail car could hit the same slope as Tech, but a little afterwads, meaning Tech would have already started to slide down and out of the way of the car. The car also has a better chance of hitting harder (being heavier) and gradually snagging on rocks or trees, providing Tech with a more gradual stop. Potentially. This is all potentially.
2. Tech could have climbed onto or into the railcar during the fall which, if it hits a slope, would either slide or roll to a stop rather than just stopping immediately, and could provide some protection against, again, rocks and trees.
3. Tech could fall into a crevasse and the rail car could get gradually wedged between the walls of the crevasse, slowing Tech's descent and giving him a chance to either climb up or cut himself free and fall a much smaller, more controlled, more survivable distance once he's stopped.
4. The trees at these altitudes are generally fairly thin--think lodgepole pines and krummholz and such. Meaning that the rail car could get snagged by one, but gradually, or that Tech's own fall would be repeatedly broken by branches.
5. Probably fifteen other scenarios I haven't thought of.
(This is all better than Tech maybe falling into water. We don't want him to fall into water, not unless he's slowed down a lot beforehand. Water doesn't compress--it moves out of the way, and it doesn't move fast enough to mitigate impact as much as you'd need to survive. The impact might not kill you, but it will probably knock you unconscious, so you'll drown anyway.)
Of course, you're probably wondering what the point of all of this is. I've been talking about how the terrain might affect the survivability of Tech's fall as though he's an actual flesh-and-blood human person and not a set of pixels in a Star War. So you're probably thinking hey! It's Star Wars! It doesn't matter how plausible survival is! And you would be absolutely right! I'm laying out why Tech surviving the fall from a practical point of view is, in fact, very plausible given what the terrain beneath the rail like might look like, but it's. It's Star Wars. Star Wars usually tries to give a semi-sorta-maybe-could-be-plausible explanation for why a character survives an unsurvivable situation--at least, one that kinda sorta maybe works in the confines of its own fictional universe, like, you know, Maul keeping himself alive with the force through the sheer power of his hatred (which is ridiculous but I accept it because it's star wars and there's magic just roll with it)--but not always. Deeefinitely not always. Maybe not even the majority of the time. Heck, Anakin used the force to literally bring Ahsoka back to life that one time, it’s all a free for all in there.
But, anyway, whether a character lives through a potentially unsurvivable situation has less to do with any handwaved plausibility and more to do with whether the storytellers want the character to survive. So while I do think there is an intentional measure of at least nodded-at plausibility to Tech's possible survival, it's not going to be as important as what J. Corbett and crew want to do with him. But, I'll admit, any potential plausibility does make me feel better.

Zelazny's 'Shadows', NyCon 3, The Statler Hilton, September, 1967
"Literature, of necessity, contains shadows"
[O]ne of his most crucial self-critiques was [Zelazny's] decision that he was “overexplaining” to the reader and should instead “avoid the unnecessarily explicit” and not “go on talking once a thing had been shown.” In a speech given at a 1967 science fiction convention he elaborated on this insight, declaring, “Literature, of necessity, contains shadows … A writer never writes an entire story … You live part of it yourself.” He went on to identify these shadows, gaps that the reader fills in, with the fabled “sense of wonder” that, to science fiction readers, defines the texts they love:
“Writing involves your taking everything in through those little cryptic bugs that crawl across the page and construct things around them. This is where that strange thing called ‘sense of wonder’ comes into play … It sort of enfolds this shadow area. Into those shadows you project those things you are looking for.”
Krulik considers this determination to avoid overelaboration “a central philosophy” of Zelazny’s writing. But what Zelazny posits in his speech, and what remains foregrounded even in a linear, plot-heavy work such as The Chronicles of Amber, is that readers experience the magic of shadow, and thus the sense of wonder, through language. Readers can imagine the streets, the plumbing, the business models of Amber as they see fit; the “emotional archetype” of the fantasy novel derives from Corwin’s story and how he tells it — both the worlds themselves and the ellipses that lie between.
Just as the reader experiences Amber through Corwin’s voice, the fate of Amber lies in Corwin’s hands, even after he decides he doesn’t want to be in charge any more. The outcome of the first half of The Chronicles of Amber comes down to learning who among the scheming, self-involved members of the royal family can master the Pattern — can, that is, control and focus their actions to execute a careful plan in order to achieve a goal.

By walking the Pattern, Corwin regains his memory and Dara assumes her true form; by failing to master the Pattern, Brand is defeated; by failing to repair the Pattern, the patriarch Oberon is doomed. And when Corwin gains access to the Courts of Chaos, enabling his ultimate victory, he does so not through the old, broken Pattern but by making a new one, a process that calls forth memories of a happy interlude in his past — on Earth in 1905 Paris — even as it demands an excruciating precision:
“I did not meet with the physical resistance that I did on the Pattern … a peculiar deliberation had come over all my movements, slowing them, ritualizing them. I seemed to expend more energy in preparing for each step — perceiving it, realizing it and ordering my mind for its execution — than I did in the physical performance of the act. Could there be a better description of the act of writing? If Zelazny began The Chronicles of Amber struggling to find his preferred artistic path, he ended the series’ first half with a reminder of the difficult requirements of both creative process and practical accommodation, and, arguably, a more mature vision of both. For Corwin, if Amber is not what you thought it was, it is well worth preserving. If the Pattern you thought was your legacy no longer works, the only thing to do — the only way to defeat the forces of Chaos — is to draw a new Pattern of your own.

The "Budget" in Budget Keyboards is changing
The budget keyboard landscape has changed.
Back in 2020, a budget keyboard would usually mean buying something from Ali Express or Amazon. However, this all changed during 2022 and onward as the keyboard market changed and provided new offerings to enthusiasts and those entering the hobby.
We now have budget keebs that have an aluminium body, LED screens, a really good sound profile, etc etc. All these cool features and it doesn't have to break the bank. However, there are other keyboard vendors out there that like to brand themselves as "budget" and "affordable," but it doesn't look that way when you look at the cost.
So as the hobby starts to open its doors to more in-stock options, and people are now being careful about whom they're giving their money towards, What defines the budget in "Budget Keyboard?"
I'm sorry, the QK65 V2 cost how much?!
What made me decide to write this blog post was looking at the cost of the QK65 V2.
I used to own the R2 of the QK65. Unfortunately, I sold it because I wasn't really happy with it + I have the QK75 version on the way. That keyboard alone was $300 AUD alone.
So now enters the QK65 V2, which many describe as a huge upgrade from its predecessor. In my honest opinion, the keyboard looks similar to the Think6.5 by Graystudios, only it has an LED screen, not a light block.
So it shouldn't shock you that the cost of the QK65 is nearly similar to the Think 6.5 in the aftermarket.
According to SwitchKeys.com, if I were to order this entire keyboard without any extras, it's going to cost me nearly $390, excluding shipping. Based on my previous QK pre-order experience, I get free shipping because I'm a local.
My second-hand Think 6.5 Valentine's edition was around 500. Just $110 off the new QK keyboard.
The reason I bring this up is because the QK lineup was described as the budget option for those who love Owllab's products. After all, QwertyKeys (the manufacturer of the QK lineup) is the sister company of Owllabs.
Even YouTubers who reviewed the ORIGINAL QK65 were shocked at how good it sounds, as well as its price.

Back in the day, the budget keyboard market was pretty underwhelming. It was mostly plastic keyboards, many of which have north-facing LEDs. Or you'd get something made with multiple acrylic layers stacked up. One thing these boards have in common is that they sound very terrible. Like seriously, you need to mod the heck out of them if you want it to sound very decent.
This obviously changed over the years with the release of the Monsgeek M series, Keychron, and the QK and Neo lineup, just to name a few. The same can be said for keycaps, with vendors like Osume and Canonkeys releasing in-stock options.
And while it's great to hear that there are IN-STOCK options for those entering the hobby, you also need to be wary of the price of these metal rectangles. Just because the group buy model is slowing down doesn't mean we should forget the price of these machines.
Anything above $300 AUD is not budget, it's mid-tier

In my very honest opinion, any new keyboard produced by QwertyKeys shouldn't be considered as budget anymore. I think they're entering the mid-tier market, especially due to its quality and features.
While it's cool to see that there are many "affordable" keyboards in the market, I think the community needs to draw a line on what is considered to be "budget" and for me, that's anything above $300 AUD.
As of writing $300 Australian dollars converts to $204 USD. And I think it's fair to say that anything above $200 USD or $300 AUD is too much for the budget label.
But just because that marks out QK doesn't mean there are no options left for very good budget keyboards. If you're someone who wants a decent LED screen, get the Gamakay LK75. It's super affordable and it's only $99 USD. Another good alternative is literally anything from Keychron. I tried some of them when I went to PAX Aus this year and their boards cost between $100 to $270 AUD. I wish this was my board instead of the GMMK Pro that I bought overseas.
And speaking of the GMMK Pro, can we all agree that we were very delulu, thinking that this keyboard was "budget" when clearly, it wasn't?
The budget keyboard market is changing. And as prices increase and features get added, we need to determine what counts as "budget." And to me, the QK65 v2 and anything above $300 AUD no longer counts. But that's okay because, with enough elbow grease, you can make a cheap acrylic/plastic keyboard to sound really good.

idk man i just really think that if u genuinely believe that fic authors are required to care about characters they dont care about and make content for characters or ships they dont care about just to prove theyre not secretly misogynists uh. i dont think you actually care about how theyre actually treating real women. because you seem to be using solely the characters they choose to write self-indulgent free fanworks about as the metric to define that instead of, yknow. anything else they do. or at least youre putting a whole lot of emphasis on it
also theres quite a few lesbians ive met who actually dont write men. some even genderbend, whether thru a cis-swap where theyre now AFAB cis women or thru trans headcanons or whatever, canonically male characters so they dont have to write about men. theyre a minority in most animanga and other mainstream fandoms ive seen but as i am not in every fandom nor am i privy to the inner workings of every fandom idk how like, rare those ppl actually are compared to authors who exclusively or mostly write abt men
also like. not sorry for this one, but as a nonbinary trans man who is not a woman even a little bit and refuses to be seen as one or associate myself with womanhood because i am not a woman, it is specifically irritating to me to be told this, because i tend to write most about the characters i project on to or see myself reflected in, and, unsurprisingly, 99% of those characters are men, or can be read as men or are men at least some of the time, or more masculine in presentation
jasper from SU has always been my favorite gem and i didn't get invested in the series until she showed up, for example, and i heavily project onto her and see my experiences in her, despite her being considered woman-aligned, which i have no problem with and am actually glad about because there's not a whole lot of very masculine/butch women in mainstream media to start with, though i wish the show had been more sympathetic with her considering she's literally an abuse victim but i digress
but i often don't write for female or fem-presenting canon characters, or focus many of my fics on them, because in order for me to really get attached to a pre-existing character not of my own creation in a series, i need to be able to see some aspect of myself in them, or they need to have something that makes me interested in their story and draws me towards them. but seeing myself reflected in a character who is a woman or identifies mostly or often as a woman is dysphoria-inducing for me. that's why most of the female characters i write for are my own OCs, because i created them, which means a little piece of me goes into them, which means i'm able to have that connection i often lack with canon characters. i also tend to make the most content for characters i feel attracted towards, who are always men because i'm gay lmao
like i'm not misogynistic or a misogynist. i don't hate women. it's just that between my writing process and the canon characters my brain gets attached to, when i write fic, i write about the canon characters i care about the most, who most often tend to be men because i'm mostly in fandoms of male character-dominated series where the women are either uninteresting, poorly written, or extremely minor, or all three in the worst case scenario. and since i do this for fun, i'm not gonna waste my time writing something i'm not 100% passionate about just because there's a lack of f/f and women-centric content like
that's a problem! but it's a problem that can be just as easily fixed by the people who are demanding more content themselves if they, yknow, actually made some. which a lot of them don't

how do you deal with art/writer's block?
You deal?
No but genuinely uhhhh good question. Funny thing was just a few days ago I came off of one of my most debilitating art blocks yet. Usually, my blocks work like this: when I am art blocked, I will write. When I am writers blocked, I will draw. My art blocks usually don’t last more than three days. My writers blocks can last a couple months.
(More explanation below)
It really sucks, though, when both blocks strike at the same time. My most recent one, as I mentioned, was just terrible. It lasted a little over a week (which I know isn’t a very long time, but it’s much longer than what I’m used to!) and I spent every day trying to get out of that slump. I tried to force myself to finish some WIPS (Miraak ref sheet, Dagon lineart shading piece), made a new character + ship (Harwith and Ghorbash), and pushed my way through an animatic. A lot of the week was simply spent playing God of War in my free time though, lol.
For me, art block is just a lot of padding and waiting it out. But I think something that really helped me this go around was realizing that I didn’t have to work on projects necessarily. I tend to enjoy 99% of all my art once it’s finished, so it was hard to figure out what was a project and what was a “just for fun” piece. Once I worked that out, I just drew some things that made me happy: a new Ego design, and some light experimentation with my favorite cannibal lad. That gave me a lot of inspiration to work on a whole new animatic, which was.. very strange, but very eye-opening! From there I’ve tried to get a good grasp on what I consider projects vs pleasure pieces.
In short: I think 70% of the process is just waiting it out. It’s miserable and I feel so sluggish during those days, but it’s all I can really do. Hammering out some WIP pieces kept the hand steady for when I would climb out of my hole, but it’s not something that I’ve ever been able to force to end. I don’t have much advice, but I do have experience, so maybe even a new perspective would help assist other artists in learning about and exploring their own art block? Idk, just some food for thought.

Ooh, these are two very interesting questions.
1.
I'm sort of working on something... By working, I mean writing notes in my notebook and trying to figure out how to tackle this idea ^^" I really want to write a Dresden Files/FPA crossover!
(Let's see if by announcing it publicly I can successfully shame me into going through with it... I doubt it, but we'll try it...)
I've never actually written a crossover, so that's already a bit daunting. Having to juggle twice as many characters/ships as I would normally is also a challenge... Currently, I'm trying to decide what POV/s to use, and how not to make this too long. But I think it would be fun to draw some parallels between the characters, and it would also be fun to bring two of the fandoms I like together like this.
Another, perhaps silly consideration is that I now have 99 fics on AO3... To make the 100th one a little bit special would be cool. (Okay, that might not happen because I have already uploaded my Yuletide fic, and I'm not actually sure where AO3 will put it in the order of fics once the authors are revealed on Jan 1st...)
Anyway, wish me luck, I can tell you that Philes would very much be on the menu ;)

You're asking me this because of the tags on my last fic, right? xD
Oh dear, where do I even start? I actually wouldn't say I have a well-developed opinion on this. And I think maybe it's better if we split it into two categories: what I think of past/present tense, and how I would decide what to use.
Just from vibes alone, I would say past tense is very comfy. It sort of "disappears" because we're so used to it. No one will be turned off by you using the past tense. You can do anything with it.
Present tense, on the other hand, feels a bit more intimate to me. It can work well for a more poetic tone. It has an urgency to it like you don't know what's going to happen. But it will also very much turn some people off ^^"
I will also add that if I'm talking about multiple layers of past events, the English past tenses can give me a bit of a hard time, so using the present tense can gloriously simplify that lol
I do like reading either btw, but how do I decide what to use when writing?
I use past tense 99% of the time. (I mean, literally. I think I have 98 fics written in the past tense, wrote one in present, and I'm pretty sure the next one will be in the past tense as well lol) So I’m no expert here, although I do have some WIPs where I also used present tense and I would totally consider experimenting with it more.
To be honest, there is only one scenario where I would opt for the present tense always, and it’s the 2nd person "you" fics... Dare I say: *whispers* reader-insert. Which is a whole different can of worms altogether that we are now opening.
Personally, in my opinion, if you think old forum role playing was cool but you think self-insert fic is cringe, that’s a *skill issue*. Luckily, I have mastered my destiny and overcame feelings of cringe lmao (I'm joking, you only read what you want, of course.)
What I mean is, I find it very charming how self-insert or reader-insert fic specifically about RPG games kind of circles back around to the roots of the “role-playing” in RPG. I might not read certain types of reader-insert fics, but I think they have their rightful place in fandom.
Now, getting back to the topic of present tense lol To me, sometimes certain things will just fit better for a fic. For example, when I started writing my first Dresden Files fic, I started writing it in 3rd person, because 1st person felt intimidating. But the canon is in 1st person, and something in me knew that it just had to be done that way for the right tone, you know? (It doesn’t mean you have to stick to the way canon is written, of course. It’s more about what fits better with the mood you are going for and what effect you want to achieve.)
Same thing with my last fic: the fandom I wrote it for uses present tense and uses 2nd person for the main character. Yeah, sure you can write an OC and write 3rd person, but the right vibe I was going for was begging me to use the present tense. So yeah, in a sense it was me wanting to stick more with the canon vibe, even if that challenged me. Which is interesting because usually it’s the other way around, no?
That is a really long way of saying I tend to stick to what is closes to canon. But I think you should always listen to your gut and just write how you like it better.

Hello!! Been fighting a war of spoons this week, so sorry for the delay with this!
Honestly it would be magical if I had 1 single source I could rely on for writer's research, but Google is generally my starting point. After that here are the places I trust the information of:
Masterclass - there are a surprising number of articles and mini interviews for free written or influenced by the professional writers in the platform. One day I'll pay for the full service if only to hear Mr. Gaiman tell me his perspective on storytelling; but the free articles are really concise and informative for structure
Save the Cat Writes a Novel (its a book but there are references all over the internet to it as well) - definitely don't feel chained to what the method lays out!! But the nuances about what should happen in certain types of beats are a great push when you get stuck!!! But it's a really rigid beat sheet that probably won't 100% adhere to what you need it to be.
Behind the Name - actually discusses meanings and origins of cultural names!! This is a great way to get started or to help carve put a character who is a little too murky to write yet.
The Phrontistry - difficult to navigate on a time crunch since its not made for writers, but ctrl-f a key word helps. This place has lists and lists of DEAD WORDS!! Use it to name shit! Use it learn victorian and old english slang. Use it because you just like words. (By the way, a Phrontistry is "a place meant for thinking", so a Zen garden is a phrontistry!!)
My Uni Library Website - this is a privilege I know, but if you can get access to academic sources on arts and cultures it really changes the way you can respectfully draw inspiration from other cultures!!
4TheWords - this is the ADHD buster! Its down at the time I wrote this, but it's a website that gamifies writing so its not just a timer like in writing sprints, every word you type goes to "defeating a monster". You so quests like any mmo and I've legitimate written over 50k in under 30 days because brain goes into panic "it doesn't have to be good" mode and I can get stuff done! Its not totally free, but the micropurchases are actually micro snd you can earn time as well as buy it. They have to make ends meet so i can't be mad
Writer.bighugelabs.com - ive used this online typewriter for like 5+ years. Lifetime membership is 99$ and it goes to the one guy who made it keeping it running. It's got an offline mode and document history so just as long as you are careful and you preload the tab, you don't need data on your netbook/chromebook/ipad to write. It's no markdown, just words on page, it makes typewriter noises, and it looks like a dos command prompt. If you pay for it, you can customize colours, and ive used it for everything from timed exams to emails to novel chapters.
Obsidian.md - free program you can get as an app or on desktop that lets you make basically your own wiki. I've posted about it for my studies, but you can just make your own wiki about your novel, or choose to write directly into it. It supports markdown and latex-like formulae so I've literally written reports in it.
Also like,,,, don't be afraid to use the blogs of other writers! They have experience you could use. But I try to avoid posts that are "7 tips to write x y z" or "never do p q r when writing" because they just get in my head and are generally highly opinionated and are not objectively correct.
I do use, reblog, and strongly support resource and psa type posts though!! Some beautiful human has been making "ways to write [emotion]" posts on tumblr and that person I would like to kiss. They are useful information-based and example-based posts that are just like "and here are some oprions" instead of giving people who are already prone to second guessing themselves (writers) more things to fear cause them "should i even try, what if im cringe and everyone roasts my work" anxiety. ((If people are gonna roast your work, they will nitpick it apart regardless of whether you reinvented My Immortal or wrote the spiritual successor to This Is How You Lose The Time War, so like,,, please just write @me and everyone else who needs to hear that.))
I also advise at least skimming posts about demographics you are not in, especially the ones about how they want to be represented and how it's appropriate to include that in your narrative structure. If you are not in that demographic, you - by definition - cannot fully understand what it's like to be the people who are. Therefore you should to do some quality research and maybe be willing to ask questions of people to make sure you don't fall into stereotypes/virtue signaling/etc.

Yes anyone can edit it, but you know who does??? Coffee riddled neurodivergent individuals with a passion for that one obscure thing you were shocked to find on Wikipedia.
Use the information as a primer, and then to to the sources and try to track down more specific and more "reliable" information. But Wikipedia is usually enough if you are like designing creatures and stuff like that. I don't need amphibious biology research to design an axolotl-like alien sentient lifeform.
That being said, I'm not going to stay limited to wikipedia when i go to learn about xolotl and the culture that named axolotls in order to make sure i don't just steal one animal and a naming convention but also pay some respect and homage to the spirit of the animal and related irl folklore. But finding relatable and first hand cultural sources is very case by case.

currently failing to write, so I am going to trick other people into writing instead. Do you have any cool bits of muse lore and/or headcanons that you've always wanted to mention in a plot but just never had an opportunity?
hahaha it took me a few days to get to this because i've been off doing things that AREN'T tumblr rp related, but i'm here now and happy to answer this question (thank you, by the way, i really appreciate you taking the time to send it presumably knowing how much i LOOOVE talking about my muses).
when it comes to this particular blog the natural answer is "um, yes, i don't ever REALLY get the chance to talk about 99 percent of my muses" but that has the potential to be both a very short and very LONG answer so i'll probably just leave you with some stuff for muses that are my personal favorites.
to start off with this is about shiroe log horizon; i don't really know how cool i would call this lore but one of the things i am OBSESSED with about him that i don't always get to discuss is his pre-show activity related to elder tale. he's a dedicated forum user who i hc as having moderated or run the popular discussion sites---in a way not too dissimilar to rev when it comes to baccano!---and who put a lot of his time into dissecting the best and most efficient ways to level in the game, beat raids, etc... it's pretty lame all things considered when it comes to "things about shiroe log horizon" but i've always LOVED the detail that was put into him being a superfan of the game and how that didn't JUST reflect in his activities within the game! i love that he has a sort of canonical "fandom notoriety" because of not only his past involvement with a notorious party but also his own individual out-of-game actions relating to it!
onto another muse; one thing i don't get to discuss with kaito a lot is my actual "mainverse" for him. on my list i have him versed in project sekai for sorting convenience (and for that matter the same is true with longya) but i've actually designed a pretty complex mainverse for him where he's a technological creature created from the thoughts and feelings that listen to the music he's featured in and the songs themselves. because the sense of identity of a vocaloid is pretty nebulous, he was never really much of a consistent being at all, but having gained recent trends in his characterization he's started to take on an actual life and have a real desire to experience existence outside of technology and hologram performances. this verse originated from miku, when i wrote her, but now kaito is in his own unique situation with it and i don't get to use it very often. i think it has a lot of potential in both the wholesome and horror directions.
and fiiiiiinally, i have one of my ocs to talk about, number 44! there are a lot of interesting things i could say about him as he relates to twain over on antisatiric but i don't often get the chance to discuss him from a non twain-centric perspective. i think the thing about him i like the most is that he is both an eternal presence and also the longest in a very long line, and while he has access to and can draw stories from the multiverse, his presence is inherently connected to the "main universe" i have set twain's story in due to twain's universe being a hub of stories where every piece of fiction is real in another world. before he was the archivist, there was a different world considered the "hub world" which had to die in order for the previous archivist to die and 44 to take over the position---so the "hub world" only becomes the hub world BECAUSE the eternal archivist is tied to it. if 44 and the current hub world die, twain will take his place as 45 and a new nascent universe will be created as the new hub world. his lore can get a little complex sometimes.

i take fanart requests for asoiaf and harry potter, tho i am more involved in the asoiaf stuff nowadays.
i draw both individual characters/groups and ships!
i do not accept all requests just because i have to be at least moderately interested in a suggestion to draw it. however i just dont reply to requests im not going to be doing, like im not going to put you on blast publicly lmao.
please ONLY send requests in my ask box! i do not take requests that are sent to my chat, ive had some unsettling requests sent privately in my chat before and so i prefer to only be contacted thru my ask box since it is a more open forum. you can use my chat if you want to just talk or whatever, thats fine id love to get to know ppl on here better, but i will not consider a request that isnt sent in my ask box. (asking for clarification for my request boundaries in chat is completely okay, just send the final request to my ask box!)
no i will NOT draw your oc... if it is a asoiaf/hp oc and you have a visual reference for them ig i would consider it, but im not going to draw someone's non-fandom related original character, esp not as a free request.
