Okayyyyy so City of the Dead thoughts for anyone who cares
Was I disappointed? My expectations weren't super high so I guess not, but the super overdramatic self pitying narration threw me off quite a bit. Like okay man chill out a bit. Kind of expected to not see Layla until the end so I guess there I was disappointed but not surprised. Fingers crossed she will be a central character from here on out and not a one and done thing in the series.
Okay elephant in the room time. I know a lot of people have been saying they REALLY did not like it and I really cannot blame them, but also I'm trying to stay hopeful because it just the first issue. I'm hesitant to get pissed off over the total lack of Jake and Steven just yet, when in Mackay's series neither made an appearance until like a year into the run. Yes this series isn't going to be nearly as long, but still. That being said, no I definitely don't expect Moon Knight to really be shown as a system, but I'm gonna give Prepose a couple more issues to prove me wrong (the bar is on the floor). Mainly just because I feel like it would be hypocritical of me to denounce Prepose for not including them and then praise Mackay when it took him 12 issues to really acknowledge that they are a system. I'm going to give Prepose a chance since he wrote a pretty good Black, White, and Blood story that did have them shown as a system in a pretty cool way imo.
All this to say that I'm not trying to undermine anyone else's concerns, this is just my own opinion and trust me, based on what little interviews I've read I fully expect Jake and Steven to be completely ignored and if (and when) that happens I will be right there with the rest of yall lol. I will say that it's already very clear that the set up so far was not written with the intention of having a place for Steven or Jake, which is very disappointing.
Okay positive things! I enjoyed seeing Dr Badr a lot and i didn't have much of an issue with how he and Marc's relationship was portrayed. Yes in the main run they're closer now, but they are still very much at odds but willing to work together towards a common goal, which is exactly what we see here in this issue.
I also liked where the thing with the kid is going. The detail of him being kicked out after his brother's death definitely makes me think he's going to be a reflection of Marc, which would be a cool parallel to have.
And the art for the most part was really gorgeous! I don't know what the hell was going on with Layla there at the end (otherwise great male artists not knowing how to draw women), but other than that I REALLY loved how the actual city looked.
And the Egyptian mythology was actually a lot more accurate than it usually is, which, as someone who has always been a total nerd about that stuff, actually made me really happy. There are several specific things I wanted to point out but this post is long enough as is.
Also. "I don't care if I burn" that was badass as shit come on. One of the (admittedly several!) moments of overdramatic writing that came off very well kind of like how it does in the Mackay run (don't wanna compare this too much to the Mackay run though because I understand it's obviously going to be different and that's fine)
But yeah. The overall feel and tone was very... off. I was on board with the general plot and Marc's motivations but everything around the basic plot structure just seemed like Prepose was trying to do a weird Huston run thing and it wasn't working (I don't think it worked in the Huston run either but I digress).
I've seen people saying that they didn't like how Marc was an enthusiastic follower of Khonshu, but that wasn't really the vibe I got at all? If anything it was pretty clear how much he hated everything he was doing. Which also kinda felt off. Having him say that everything was "punishment" over and over just kind of felt like I was getting hit on the head with a theme that didn't even make sense for the character, at least not at this point. Don't get me wrong, self punishment is absolutely a big part of Marc Spector's character, but there is an important distinction between doing things to right your past wrongs and doing them because you feel like you deserve it. And it seemed like Prepose understood that at first, but then later into the issue I was like Marc PLEASE shut the fuck up about punishment lol.
People more knowledgeable than myself have said things about how this looks from the standpoint that this is also a Jewish character, but all I'm going to say as a general statement for all of Moon Knight's runs is that I wish they would let him be explicitly Jewish more often. It's mentioned in Mackay's run the clash between Marc's service to Khonshu and his Judaism, but I think that that is such an interesting part of his character that needs to be discussed WAY more!
Anyway, to make a long story short, definitely not the strongest first issue, but it absolutely had some great moments and I'm going to go forward with my expectations still pretty low, but willing to give it a shot for Layla's sake. But the fact that a run featuring Layla is already not turning out to be very good is a little bit heartbreaking for me I'm not gonna lie lol. I was going to go and buy myself a copy of this issue, but after actually reading it I didn't really want it anymore. So 😬 fingers crossed for the next issue I guess?

midnights could be folklore and evermore's third sister and she'd still never live up to expectations because she came after folklore and evermore and so she could never win :/
anyway i love midnights and i think the production is significantly better and more appealing TO ME PERSONALLY than folklore and evermore combined

what is something you dislike about style in fanon portrayal hehe...............
Hmm anon, are you trying to get me in trouble? Jks, I'm happy to answer this one. Let me preface this by saying this is just my personal opinion, one that's based on my real life experiences!! I promise I'm not trying to judge or shame other fic authors here. 😭I'm nothing more than just a stranger on the internet with opinions. Okay? Okay, good.
Now, I have no idea if this is still prevalent in Style fics (this was more of something I've come across when I started shipping Style) BUT I dislike how mental health issues and alcoholism are handled. So, the premise is often this: Stan is struggling with either depression or alcoholism, or both. That, in itself, is okay (...well, I also dislike it when Stan's entire personality gets reduced to his alcoholism issues, but that's a topic for another day) but what I dislike is when Stan gets together with Kyle, all of his mental health issues just...vanish?? Just like that? There seems to be this idea that love cures mental health issues, and I'm very sorry, but that's not how it works. :/ Like sure, I don't doubt Kyle would try his best to support Stan but he could not cure Stan's issues!
If you're confused still, think of it like this: suppose you have a broken leg. Now, having a supportive partner who can help you get to places, help you complete your chores etc etc. certainly makes life a lot more bearable!! But at the end of the day, your partner isn't qualified to treat your broken leg - you still need to go to professional.
So yeah, just speaking as someone who has mental health issues + in a long-term relationship (with someone who also has mental health issues), I just wish these heavy topics could be handled with more...tact? ((I'm aware it's fanfiction, and people are allowed to write what they want but idk lol. Once again, this is just my opinion. Ty for hearing me out.))

Johnny and V being romantic partners is excellent and honestly I do think that he should have been a romance option in the end, but I do also want to highlight the potential of a narrative arc where Johnny and V are still devoted to each other but just in a purely platonic sense.
Johnny in the 2010's and 2020's solely treats his relationships as tools to get him to his end goals. His romantic interests are a different matter, but Johnny proves many times throughout the game that doesn't do things out of platonic obligation. Even his 'friendship' with V in the beginning is, like many things in his life, a means to an end, but it's through their evolving relationship that Johnny starts to learn what unconditional support is. In the case of someone he's romantically involved with like Alt, we know what lengths Johnny will go to for someone he had sexual/romantic feelings for back when he was alive, but would he do the same thing for someone who he doesn't have a reason (be it romantic or personal) to save? I'm not sure he would back in the day, to be honest. The entire point of Johnny's character at the beginning is that he sees the world in the broadest strokes-- individual struggles sort of of fall to the wayside because in his eyes they aren't as important as the needs of the masses as a whole. The way I've always seen it, that's the real reason why the game doesn't have him as a romantic option. We've seen the lengths Johnny will go to for his romantic devotion, that doesn't change, and him learning to love someone is arguably not the focus of his character growth; Johnny learning to recognize individuality and care about other people regardless of his worldviews or personal motivation is, though, at least in my eyes, and him learning altruism through V is what makes that message hit as hard as it does.
Your mileage is going to vary on it a lot but just solely from my thoughts, the idea that Johnny wants to save V not because of any romantic feelings but simply because 'damnit, they're a person too and I am NOT letting them die if I can help it' is a powerful take on his arc and speaks more volumes to me about his development over the course of the game than if he and V were head over heels for each other by the time they reach Mikoshi.

hello! are you excited for mota?
I mean I guess I’ll probably watch it, but unless it’s like…a revolutionarily amazing piece of television you can expect this to remain a solely Generation Kill-based blog for the foreseeable future. Glad the HBO War fandom has something new to look forward to! I however am content to stay down here in this abandoned nuclear bunker with like twelve other people and our seven-episode miniseries from fifteen years ago.

one fundamental thing about me that i've learned as i've gotten older is that i am incapable of experiencing someone interact with something i love. like i tell someone to listen to a podcast i really like, i Cannot be with them as they listen to it. if it's a movie that's really near and dear to my heart, i Cannot be with them when they watch it. and very especially physically being in a room with someone AS they read anything i've ever written makes me want to break out in hives. nope. discuss it afterward? hell yes! hear their thoughts and feelings once they've finished it somewhere else? sure! but make me experience it with them and i am a squirming leech on a hook who yearns to be eaten by a fish to be taken out of my intense misery.

hey, so i just read "the psychology of the transference" by c.g. jung bc my psychoanalyst told me to. all of the misogyny, rampant racism and overconfident speculation on the role of incestuos desires for the human psyche aside (lmao), i found it a worthwhile read. one of the main points that he seems to make in regards to alchemy is that it wasn't *really* about chemistry/material processes, but more about the images and metaphors used to describe the alchemical process. and jung compares this alchemical imagery, which in large parts revolves around themes of divisions and fusions, to subconscious (psychic) processes that in his opinion also revolve around divisions and fusions (like dissolutions or integrations of the self, contradictions in gender relations and other social relations, etc). and idk, that part makes sense to me. did alchemists really care about the physical world? or did they care about gender, sex, identity, art, death, the horrors, etc?
YES. THE TEXTS HE IS TALKING ABOUT ARE PROTO-CHEMISTRY WORKS.
Alchemy was demonstrably, overwhelmingly, about the physical world. Jung's psychological interpretations of them are --and I cannot stress this enough-- entirely invented ahistorical bullshit.
I cannot overstate the amount of damage that Jung has done to alchemical scholarship. His interpretations of alchemical texts have caused literally thousands of historical proto-chemistry texts to languish in the historical wastebin of "Psychological mumbo jumbo" or "it's just old therapy language tee hee!"
What's worse is he actively misrepresents many of the actual religious or mystical ideas present in the texts he cites. For example, many alchemical texts in the Arab world we're the result of Isma-ili mystics from northern Africa and more gnostic-influenced parts of the early Muslim world. Their equivocation of Hermes Trismegistus with the biblical Enoch, and unique relationship to both hermeticism and Jewish apocrypha, gets ENTIRELY sidelined in Jung's reading, in favor of "it's just early psychology."
Furthermore, Jung tries to make the argument that these images present in alchemical texts are somehow representative of some deeper, universal structure within human psychology. Which is, --again I cannot stress this enough-- howling clown bullshit. Alchemical texts are similar because chemistry works the same wherever you are on the planet. He actively ignores the hermeneutics of different alchemical theories, which change RADICALLY depending on culture and location.
All this in service of adding a pseudo-historical foundation for psychological theories that are about as scientific as astrology.

RPC self-care
We all get worn down by life and often we turn to RP for rejuvenation. But more than once I've seen people on here that find themselves burnt out on the RP community itself. With nearly 20 years of role playing under my belt, I thought I'd share some of my favourite self-care tricks.
Block people. You don't have to explain yourself and 'weird vibes' is a legitimate reason. You deserve to feel safe and unbothered in your hobby space, and RP is based on consent. Just like with any recreational activity, you can withdraw your consent at any time and no is a complete sentence.
Turn off anon. This prevents anonymous harassment and gives you great insight into who to block or report if you get non-anonymous harassment.
Drop threads. I know RP etiquette suggests you need to tell your RP partner when and why, and sure, if they ask politely you can give it a go - just know that a pre-written variant of 'not feeling it' is good enough. In my humble opinion, I think dropping boring or vexing threads is everyone's prerogative and doesn't require explanation. Again, no is a complete sentence.
Talk it out. If you like the thread but things took a turn you didn't like, it's time to bring the RP into the workshop. Something like 'Hey I really like our RP so far but I'm losing my spark, can we talk about course correcting where the plot is going?'
Make clear rules and revise them frequently. I'd also advise against spending said rules excusing or explaining why you don't like or want a certain thing - I cannot stress enough how your preferences are not up for debate.
Get comfy chasing. A lot of RP is about inviting others to play over and over and over. Rejection is a part of it. See if you can't find some element of self-care in it - taking rejection well is a great skill to practice in such a low stake environment.
Notice and celebrate the good stuff, instead of digging holes about the bad. Tell your co-players how great they are. Marvel at all the hard work you put into your muses and graphics. Admire your own blog.
Stop. Take a break. Check in with yourself. Do you actually need to face something in IRL? Do you need to rest? A snickers? A walk? Don't bother with posts á la 'offline for the day' - leave your options open to reduce guilt or shame if you want to poke your head back in.
Happy writing. 🌿

i. don’t really know what to think about the whole forever situation. because i have seen people say “he’s addressed this a long time ago so why are we bringing it up” but i haven’t seen WHERE he’s addressed it in the past. nary a tweet or clip of anywhere he may have talked about it, but i would love to see an older clip of him talking about this if possible
I’ve seen people say “his tweets and messages were translated in bad faith to give english speakers a bad perception” which. ok yeah understandable but if that’s the case i still don’t know what exactly the situation is or how serious it is
“she was 13” “she was 15” OK WHICH IS IT!!! both are bad but one is still significantly grosser than the other and i don’t know which is true!! or are there multiple girls!!! i don’t know!!!
“he met a fan for flirtatious/sexual reasons” “he met a fan for normal content creator reasons” WHICH IS IT!!!! I DON’T KNOW!!! i guess only he and the fan would know what the intent was when they met, and even then i don’t know if they met alone or if it was a normal ass fan meetup with multiple other people there
“it’s been 7-8 years, he’s changed” ok. now we are making some sense. he has not exhibited this kind of behaviour in years it seems and he appears to be the kind of person who would not say or do these things now. no one is irredeemable and no one is beyond change. still, it is important for some people to know. many fans would rather know this and make the educated choice on whether to support him or not than continue to support him in blind blissful ignorance. even though it’s stressing me out and i’m still clueless about a lot of it, i’m glad i know anyway.
“what about the past transphobia and the ableism and the and the and the-” That Is Not Relevant To This Conversation. this is a different situation. he has apologized for his past opinions and everyone has had ample time to come to terms with them and make peace with supporting him despite his past beliefs.
“he’s deleting past tweets” i mean if someone was digging around my account for things i’ve said that i no longer stand by, i would delete shit too. sure as hell doesn’t make him look innocent but i would do the same. i HAVE done the same, albeit for much more minor and trivial reasons for posts i made when i was like 15, but still
“he apologized and said he’s getting a lawyer!! no guilty person would do that!!” your content creator is not an angel. guilty people take their accusers to court all the time and get away with it. also, it is up to everyone individually to decide whether to believe him or not. you cannot push others to believe your side but you can give context to some things
there’s nuance to this like there is with everything, and people are jumping to conclusions saying either “he’s an innocent little lamb how dare you!” or “he should be deplatformed and we should never speak of him again!” i will never fault anyone for supporting the alleged victim. if your decision is to stop watching him immediately or even stop supporting the qsmp itself, no one should ever fault you for that. it is ultimately up to you to make that decision. the situation is not clear enough for me to make a decision, so i will withhold judgement for now. i will not doompost about it, and i will not call out people for defending or dropping him.
but for the love of god, just. everybody keep your cool. especially english speakers, we may not have full proper translations for the messages and tweets. take a deep breath. if you want to find more info to form an opinion now and spread information that people don’t already have, go ahead. if you want to step back and not think about it for now, go ahead. there is no shame in taking a step back and thinking about other things. you are not morally obligated to be invested in this situation. you are not morally obligated to drop him immediately and you are also not morally obligated to keep supporting him just because he’s friends with your favs. stick to your gut and do what you feel is right. you will be okay. this is not the end of the world.

how seventeen adore their s/o's body
requested by @xuenihao : "I was wondering if you could do a reaction of ot13 being in a relationship with a s.o. who is a bit kn the heavier side (just thighs and And belly? You know) and how they would act to people hating on them and how they comfort them? Or them just adoring their so body?"

seungcheol, seungkwan, hansol
always, always has you sitting on his lap. or leaning against him, or your head resting on his thighs. won't let you fret that you're too much of an uncomfortable weight for him, bc that's not even an issue. loves having you sitting with him bc it's warm, it's reassuring, and he loves having you pressed up against him. makes a point of pulling you into his lap if you ever get insecure, telling you very firmly that anyone who makes you hate the way you look is, quite frankly, incredibly stupid and not worth your precious time. bc your time is Definitely precious especially when you can be spending it sitting in his lap while he runs his fingers through your hair
jeonghan, junhui, chan
gives you kisses absolutely everywhere. literally, everywhere he can reach. kisses your fingers, your fingernails, your eyebrows, your ears, everywhere. when you were lying next to him with your shirt slightly exposing your stomach, he'd leaned down and swiftly pressed a kiss there as well. probably learnt the meanings of all the different placements of kisses for fun, and whenever you feel particularly down about yourself then he'll go through all of them with you, kissing different parts of your body and telling you exactly what each kiss means, while also giving him the chance to show how cherished your body is by him
joshua, hoshi, dokyeom
he is. oh my god he is soooo a thighs man. loves your thighs so much. not even in a sexual way, he just thinks they're so lovely and pretty and full and gorgeous. likes it when you wear shorts/skirts so he can trace patterns across your knees and lower thighs, and especially does so if you're feeling bad about the way you look. pretends to get all sad if you cover them up by wearing pants, but still finds it vv fun to squish your thighs with his hands bc wow they're just so Nice. gasps dramatically if you tell him you don't like your thighs bc in your opinion u think that they're too thick bc what???? he thinks your thighs are perfect what are you talking about????
wonwoo, woozi, minghao, mingyu
has compliments for the way you look always, always on the tip of his tongue. looks aren't everything, he knows, but there's just something about you which makes him want to call you all those shallow adjectives bc they just sound so right because you really are gorgeous and beautiful and amazing. literally, you are an utter deity in his eyes like i Cannot stress how much he adores you. has really sincere talks with you if he notices that you feel insecure about yourself, and the compliments just flow out of him smooth and easy as water until you're smiling and blushing and hugging him and feeling better again
