Work in progress, but I sketched out a Dungeon Meshi self-insert for the first time today...

I don't have a lot of things solid in mind yet, especially not how she fits into the narrative (if I want her to at all, no idea at the moment). She doesn't have a name either; half-foots have a special naming convention that I want to think about some more first.

I do have a couple things that kind of set the tone for what I have in mind for her though, even if the specifics are subject to change until I finish the manga (as it is, I'm almost caught up with the anime... I'm a slowpoke.)

She is about 25. (Which equates to about early- to mid-thirties or so. If I'm thinking about numbers right.) Is a bit self conscious that she's not been in a serious relationship by now and definitely gets ribbed about it a lot.

Works at a library on the island.

Lives with her family. Her parents had her late and are on the elderly side, so she sees it as her responsibility to stay with and care for them. Her father is quite ill.

Has a younger sibling that left home. She sees them as having wimped out and abandoned her to care for their parents alone. She has a strong distaste for deserters as a result of all this.

Not sure if she goes into the dungeon, but if she does, it's to make money for her family. (I had a thought that her father would pass away while she was in the dungeon, devastating her.)

She is thoroughly fascinated with magic and studies it on her own (Probably didn't bother with the magic school considering half-foots don't have much mana). Is open minded about the darker stuff as well, and will listen to Marcille talk about it.

Has an embroidery hobby. Stitches flowers and herbs on her clothing. Mainly along the hem of her skirts. One day she hopes to get good enough to embroider little animals, too.

I find it verrrrry difficult to make most of my F/Os and basically all my S/Is in picrews BUT I decided to do my best to make Andras from the Hell's Library Book series!

He's an old school demon so his skin's supposed to be red, but the only picrew with a red skin option was too cutesy to make him look good and old so woe - Twink-ish human disguised Andras be upon you. Also he's supposed to have a golden streak in his hair. Another limitation of Picrews.

They drift apart circa 7th grade (I can naut remember if/how school works for inklings but when I first had this idea I was projecting something fierce so I’m committed to it I’m not about to disappoint 13 y/o cake bc his selfship lore isn’t as canon compliant as 21 y/o cake wants it to be) bc my si was sent to a fancy “private” middle school instead of the public one (it’s not actually private it just has strict rules and a uniform)

Fuck all happens until my si runs into spyke right around when they both first became adults

I’m being literal btw. He walked into spyke getting off a train and they ended up talking while waiting for a bus.

Shit sucks ass for both of them like, spyke had not gotten the hang of his shit with snails yet so he was perpetually broke and starving and my si hit academic burnout and was trying not to get evicted from his dorm.

They end up clinging to each other in a very “everything sucks and I want to die but I’m not leaving you here alone.” Type way

Spyke gets his shot sorted so he is no longer broke and starving and they end up sharing an apartment where my si becomes a complete shut in.

That’s pretty much where it stops being written, timeline wise this is between s1 and s2 roughly, closer to s1. I’m being horribly indecisive about where I want to go with the lore following
