cowboy carter album review:
this album has so much context i know i’m missing so i’m not going to talk too much about the themes or lyrical backgrounds and just focus on the music. beyonce knows she wrong for not adding liner notes to this album but i digress. also the ratings are on how much i like the song NOT on how good they are because artistically every song is pretty perfect. such high quality and artistry, no shock there.
american requiem: 6/10
love the beyonce choir. makes me wanna go join a civil rights march idk lmao. probably will only listen to this one on a full album listen tho.
blackbird: 8/10
i wish we got more of the other singers singing the main lines rather than mostly just the background, but i still like it. reminds me of butterfly fly away from the hannah montana movie. not my favorite but i’ll come back when i wanna feel like someone’s singing me a sweet lullaby or when i’m maladaptive daydreaming that i’m sitting around a campfire on a beach in an old southern town singing tunes.
16 carriages: 10/10
iiiiiiiii love this song. so much. since it’s been released, i’ve been listening to it non stop. it’s so beautiful and perfect. one of my absolute favorites. what a single. it’s perfect.
protector: 7/10
the acutal lullaby song. so pretty. so soft. so sweet. i like it.
my rose: 4/10
what rose are we talking about beyonce lmao no but anyway this is too short like i hate mini songs pls. but eh i’m not feeling it anyway.
smoke hour willie nelson: n/a
texas hold em: 10/10
so fun, so catchy, the rhythm in this one is so infectious. “this beat is vivacious”. i love every melody in this song. the slowdown is insaneeee. her ability to blend genres in a way that’s actually interesting and unique issss ugh amazing love her.
bodyguard: 10/10
as soon as the song started, i texted my best friend telling her i loved it. i knew from the first beat. this song is so perfect. i could listen to this forever and never get sick of it. i loooooove it. shoulda been a single imo
dolly p: 10/10
okay ik this is just an interlude but the jolene instrumental sounds sooo beautiful in this and the “jolene” sample thing i love it. plus dolly. this isnt even a song but i want more of it.
jolene: 8/10
okay idk how i feel about this cover. i dont like the lyrical changes. it does feel more beyonce than the original but i liked how dolly never put down or shamed jolene. i like the vulnerability and softness in the original. i dont like the harsher approach in this one. HOWEVER if this song was softer like the interlude OR the choir at the end for the whole song, it’d be a 10/10 for me. i’m actually so mad the choir part was so short bc i loooove it.
daughter: 7/10
i’d relisten but probably not as often. it’s beautiful but idk it just doesnt catch me. the opera at the end is beautiful. and the song is so nice. but it’s just not my favorite.
spaghetti: 7/10
controversial opinion but i dont usually like rapyonce. i like beyonce singing on a rap beat but rapping idk. makes me cringe. the more i listen tho, the more i like it. again i do love how she blends genres in this so flawlessly. the ending is my favorite part of the song, so nice also i love the beat.
alligator tears: 6/10
i don’t care to listen to this one again tbh. doesn’t really catch my attention. i like the outro tho. idk y she always makes the outros outros and not just the song.
smoke hour ii: n/a
just for fun: 6/10
will relisten but not my favorite.
most wanted: 10/10
never thought i’d get a miley cyrus/beyonce collab but im so grateful i’m obsessssseedddd. i looooove it. it’s so beautiful. so romantic. perfect in my eyes.
levii’s jeans: 10/10
i hate post malone and i’m mad beyonce chose to work w him rather than idk a black female artist. you let this nigga sing a whole verse but barely let the other black country female singers on blackbird get in a line??? idgi. but goddamit i love the song. so romantic in a kind of sensual way with the country twang. one of my favorites. i cant even be too mad. he ate his part up.
flamenco: 8/10
i love the flamenco in this lol. it’s too short tho ugh i hate mini songsss. idk it’s somehow not my favorite. flamenco and beyonce sounds perfect but this song didnt really catch me as much as id like it to. still like it tho and will relisten.
the linda martell show: n/a
ya ya: 9/10
love the 60s black southern rocker vibes in this. the instrumental is so insane i’m obsessed. so fun, so dancey. you cant not dance to this. and her vocals remind me so much of tina turner.
oh louisiana: 7/10
i actually like this even tho it’s just like an interlude. not much to say about it tho.
desert eagle: 9/10
that BASS?!?! absolutely thank u. too goddamn short!!! like i wish there was more to it. more everything.
riiverdance: 9/10
that banjo(?) lick is so addictive. another fun dancey song. again, love the genre bending. i like this, will relisten. i kept waiting for like a climax tho? idk. i wish there was one.
ii hands ii heaven: 6/10
not my favorite, probably wont relisten to very often.
tyrant: 9/10
another genre bender. i really like it. the chorus is so good and addictive. “i dont like to sit up in the saddle boy i got this” YEA!
sweet honey buckiin: 7/10
genre bender lmao i’m gettin repetitive i know. i just get what she means now by saying this isnt a country album, it’s a beyonce album. not my favorite but i like it some. will relisten from time to time.
amen: 8/10
love a beyonce choir.
overall even tho every song wasnt a hit for me, the songs i love, i love so much that it makes this album a 10/10 for me. they’re so interesting and unique but still melodic and catchy and i loooove it.

Album of the Week #68
Planet Her
(2021)
by Doja Cat
Overall Rating: 6.5/10
TL;DR: Probably an objectively good album, I’m just tired. Tired of hearing these singles that were drilled into my head, tired on the stupid one-liners, tired of the trap snare. While she has a fantastic singing voice and seems to be having fun, I’m too damn tired to have the enthusiasm rub off on me.
Tumblr media
(You know, I'll give her this, that is a badass album cover 10/10)
Every week i somehow get busier. When will it end
Overall Thoughts
As her albums become more refined, focused, and professional, her intent of writing about sex and womanhood becomes clearer. I think that Robert Christgau’s description of writing sex songs instead of love songs fits even more with this album. Every duet is about sex, every rap mentions it, even “Kiss Me More” which sounds like a lighthearted love song is incredibly graphic once you listen to the lyrics. I’m not saying this is a bad thing at all, it’s just fascinating to hear a whole album that has pop woven through it not mention love (I wonder what boomer Robert Christgau has to say about that).
“Woman” starts the album off with a sensual tone and is I think the most creative and distinct song on the album. The rest kind of blend together and I think how overplayed some of them were on the radio ruined a few of them for me. I don’t think many of the songs offered anything unique or especially good, with a mix of predictable slow songs and rap songs that offer your standard sound board of effects and beats. The only real variation you’ll get is in a sometimes really good chorus or baseline, as she also offers about the same flow in every song. I think most of the album (especially “Naked” and “Need to Know”) fall into the category of “songs I’d dance to at a club and enjoy at the time but never think about again.” You need songs like that in your life, but that also means that I don’t have much of a desire to listen to this album in full again.
In listening to her whole discography I’ve found that the one thing that Doja Cat lacks is being a good writer. Okay that sounds really harsh but I think her messages and themes are great, her ideas are solid and complex, she’s just really bad at writing well crafted, smart, and good lyrics. Often they’re stupid enough to border on funny which was fine in her early days but as she wants to be taken more and more seriously it just doesn’t really work. Often lines don’t rhyme or barely rhyme, the word play is stupid (“square like Madison”??? That’s dumb as hell), and when thing do flow and rhyme it feels like gibberish. I hope she gets better soon because if you’re gonna start billing yourself as a rapper (like she is in her newest album) you at least have to be able to write. Sure you can say the lines, but are they worth saying?
Part of me wonders if I’m especially harsh on this album because pretty much every song that was a single when this came out was so overplayed that it makes me genuinely angry to here. “Get Into It (Yuh)” is one of my least favorite songs of all time tbh, and if I have to hear that weird bird owl sound effect one more time I’m going to throw my headphones into the road. “You Right” is probably a good song objectively but I just find myself wanting to turn it off because its so boring to me, and the only song (other than “Woman”) that I find myself coming back to is “Kiss Me More.”
You know, to end this review on a good note let’s talk about that song for a bit. It’s honestly perfect. I’ve had it stuck in my head for the past week but not in a dreadful way, in a “nodding my head and humming while doing the dishes” kind of way. The baseline is perfect, all the guitar parts are wonderfully catchy, SZA is fantastic in it, and its the perfect length. I’m glad the album ended with that song because I was at least left with a good taste in my mouth.

what’s up bestie. music asks. answer em. 5, 6, 14, 22, & 29 <3
hi bestie!! sorry for answering this so late my fucking internet went out RIGHT when i was abt to post it 😭
5. name an album you feel is perfect
tbh i dont usually sit down and listen to a full album all at once except for a few times so i dont usually immediately notice any faults but out of the ones ive listened to i cant really find any issues in Kimya Dawson’s “Remember That I Love You” or AJJ’s “Knifeman” and hmm Johnny Hobo and the Freight Trains’s side of “Love Songs for the Apocalypse” (ik ik i’m cheating by listing more than one album shhh)
6. from the album you feel is perfect, what three songs would you choose to eliminate if you absolutely had to?
From Remember That I Love You: “France”, “I Miss You”, and “12/26” purely bc i’ve only listened to them like. once. i dont remember anything about them 😔
EDIT 4/1/2023 FUCK PAST ME FRANCE GOES SO FUCKING HARD. SHEER WONDER BABY
From Knifeman: oh god this is hard but “Back Pack”, “Fucc the Devil”, and uhhh “If You Have Love in Your Heart” for the same reasons as above… i simply don’t listen to them as often as other songs on the album 😔 nothing wrong with them i just like other songs more
From Love Songs for the Apocalypse: genuinely i can’t pick i actually like all these songs equally sob (not counting mantit’s side of the album here cos i haven’t listened to it) maybe “Election Song”? since i don’t generally go back to it as much as other songs on the album
14. is there any band/musician who you really strongly dislike? if so, why?
Oh god so many, mostly cos theyre overplayed
ed sheeran bc my mom likes his songs so i get to hear “Shape of You” every car ride ever :( i listen anyway cos it makes her happy but it’s so so painful. idk anything about him as a person but his music gives off very annoying vibes i simply do not care for him
taylor swift for obvious reasons but also because i used to pretend to like her in grade school so my friend would like me (her music wasn’t necessarily terrible i just didnt care LMAO) but now i hate her bc she’s annoying and it’s so so enraging hearing people be like “omg she’s so gay!!” ohhh my god shut up she is the straightest women alive on this earth…
girl in red mostly cos ppl hyped up her music so much but when i actually listened to it, it was really disappointing… go girl give us nothing
(^also the annoying terminally online “do u listen to girl in red = are you a lesbian” simply bc as a lesbian i simply think she’s kinda lame)
more i can’t think of rn i think cos i’m not currently in the hater mindset but also cos for the longest time i never really paid much attention to the musicians behind the music (with some exceptions i still dont know most of the names of the members of my favorite bands lmao)
22. name a song that reminds you of one of your best memories
tbh most of the older vocaloid songs :( they remind me of being a child on the internet (the good parts not weird parts which i thankfully mostly avoided) specific examples include “World is Mine” by Supercell, “Electric Angel” by YasuoP, and “Tokyo Teddy Bear” by Neru <—the big one that got me into vocaloid!!
as for specific memories… hmm… i never really related songs to my personal life cos i’d be too busy imagining Epic Warrior Cats/Vocaloid AMVs (childhood thru present day) but ig the closest would be “Becky” by Be Your Own Pet cos it reminds me of my ex friend who i hate and how i stopped talking to her 😁 best decision of my life for real
29. is there any song that you mostly like, but there’s one specific part of it that you don’t like as much? if so, what is it?
can’t think of any rn! but i’ll probably think of smth later and add it here

Recommend some good folk metal music please
:D i never thought i’d see the day when someone actually wants to know more about the music i listen to *cracks knuckles* my time has come
I apologize in advance for this novel. Feel free to skip to the recommended tracks lol.
Most folk metal comes out of northern Europe (Finland, heavily) though you can find it all over the world (Hu Band comes to mind but I mean, it’s on every continent). I am one of those people with like, a small handful of favorite bands that I listen to mercilessly so I am sure that I am only representing a miniscule percentage of what’s available out there. What’s great is that folk metal is much more versatile than many other genres in its sound; the essence of folk metal is simply to 1) utilize traditional (or rather, in the sense of a metal band, non-traditional) instruments such as violin, accordion, brass ensemble, bagpipes, what have you, and 2) have lyrical themes which revolve around regional folklore, mythology, cultural heritage, or place (what I particularly like is a frequent reverence and respect for nature). Other genres of metal (death, black) have the second element but not the first, and tend to incorporate darker overall tones and consistently harsher or lo-fi vocal styles and sounds. Folk metal can be a gateway genre into metal and can often be quite hopepunk (if you will). Because of these criteria, the actual sound of folk metal can range from sea shanties to ‘spooky walk in the midnight woods’ to scathing social commentary to SHOTS SHOTS SHOTS SHOTS SH
Basically you can find a range of styles within the genre that fit what you’re looking for, from those that have an orchestral, ballad feel, to things that border on death metal but have a hurdy-gurdy in there. There’s also a much higher percentage of female-led folk metal bands than other metal genres.
I’ll go through my top picks.
Turisas. These motherfuckers. My boys.
Tumblr media
Turisas is based in Finland, but sing primarily in English (with occasional Finnish, a smidge of Greek and Swedish too). Four albums out to date, fifth in progress. Sound is absolutely fucking bonkers god tier shit, if I may say so myself. Every single song sounds like you’ve been transported into an Iliad metal musical. Heavy use of a full orchestra and choir, along with sick violin and accordion solos. Their lyrical themes focus heavily on ancient Greco-Roman and Viking military history - but before you raise any red flags, rest assured they’re liberal as fuck and trust me the tea is scalding when Mathias feels like making a Point about Then and Now. No seriously, I don’t know how to express the beauty and depth of his songwriting - Mathias Nygård is an incredibly talented composer, musician, and songwriter (nay, POET), and an extremely intelligent and down to earth guy. There are plenty of bands that are happy to write Viking songs about pillaging and glorious death in battle and all that (Alestorm comes to mind), those are a dime a dozen. Turisas makes history come to life in a way that transports you back in time and thrusts you into the living breathing world of the past. They deal with the horrors and tragedy of war from both sides, consequences and motivations, fears and pride and loss, home and family, despair and hope. They write songs about people, big and small, and their role in weaving the great tapestry of history. And the best part is that it’s informed - Mathias does his damn research and the tales he tells are rooted in fact. He brings them to life so we can experience what it must have been like for those real living people, with the goal of forcing us to confront our own selves in them. He’s a modern Homer, I shit you not.
Did I mention there’s a song about pirates that’s actually really complex and nuanced, about how the hypocrisy and vile colonialist deeds of emperors makes them no different than the criminals they persecute?
Or that they do a badass cover of Rasputin?? yeah?????
Anyway enough gushing. Their second and third albums (The Varangian Way, Stand Up And Fight) are consecutive concept albums that follow the story of the Varangian Guard (the legendary Viking battalion that defended Alexander the Great) so the songs are actually chronologically linked to tell this epic tale. It’s a fucking listen, lads. The Varangian Way is probably my favorite album. But all their albums are top notch.
My favorite songs: End of An Empire (this one comes for 2020 hard), Piece by Piece (AKA die fascists 2k20), Cursed Be Iron, Among Ancestors, Greek Fire, Miklagard Overture (you gotta earn this song tho, it’s the finale)
Good first listen picks/hits: Battle Metal, To Holmgard and Beyond, March of the Varangian Guard, Ten More Miles, One More
Finntroll. These other motherfuckers. My other boys.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another big name in the Finnish folk metal scene. As you can see, their band revolves both aesthetically and musically around Scandinavian troll folklore. Yall weird elf-fuckers who like the really big ears? Here you go. Look at those ears. They’re good friends with Turisas. Both love their facepaint.
Musical style leans much more towards black and death metal influenced, with a heavier, fuller sound and growling vocals. But it’s an incredibly rich and creative aural tapestry, with layers of masterfully executed sound that’s a real delight to lose yourself in. Use of fiddle, brass, keyboard, accordion, and banjo, and strong folk melodies make their sound unmistakable and unique. They are known for their ‘black humppa’ beat, which basically gives the effect of feeling the primal need to stomp around loudly to their music. It’s great cardio. They also utilize orchestra in some great intro tracks. They know their stuff.
The majority of their songs are sung in Swedish (they do some English cover songs which are FANTASTIC holy SHIT), but don’t let that stop you. The mood and power and emotion of their music transcend language, and you can be sure the lyrics are about either trolls, witches, the dark woods, spirits, or something of that ilk. I think Swedish as a language works very well with this kind of music, and honestly having it in English would lose something.
They have been around a long time and so have many albums, but I personally have only listened to the last three which feature their current singer, Mathias Lillmåns, whom I adore. Those albums are Nifelvind, Blodsvept, and their recent release Vredesvävd (that i’ve had on repeat since I got it three weeks ago). I’m sure their other ones are great too, I just can’t make a personal recommendation since I haven’t heard them.
My favorite songs: Galgasång, Tiden Utan Tid, Ylaren, Skogsdotter, Två Ormar, Ett Norrskensdåd, Skövlarens Död
Good first listen picks/hits: Forsen, Under Bergets Rot, Häxbrygd, Trollhammaren (older song), Solsagan
I’ll go through these other ones a little faster, I haven’t heard quite as much from them but I do love them.
Korpiklaani.
Tumblr media
Great, full folk sound, utilizes a lot of folk instruments including some less commonly seen ones like hurdy gurdy. Songs are mostly in Finnish but plenty in English too. Jonne Järvelä has a really unique voice that grows on you, but it’s not for everyone. The band started as Sami folk, and Jonne is trained in Sami yoik singing, which makes an appearance in a few songs. I prefer the Finnish tracks, as a lot of the English ones are drinking songs lmao. But again, really well-executed music with layers of sound that keeps you hooked. I haven’t heard enough of their discography to really recommend enough to cover everything.
Song picks: Minä Näin Vedessä Neidon, Metsälle, Ämmänhauta, Lempo
Moonsorrow.
Tumblr media
Definitely a darker, black-folk band. Probably not a great pick if you aren’t accustomed to black metal - very long tracks (8-15 mins is standard), growling/shrieking vocals, a ‘thinner’ but encompassing wall of sound usual of black metal, but with the benefit of wonderfully entrancing dark folk elements and chants. It’s done really really well. Sung almost entirely in Finnish (apart from cover tracks). Lyrically, focuses on themes of Norse mythology, man vs nature and similar elements. Definitely one of those bands whose music gets you into a zone. I can lose serious time just putting a whole album on and letting my mind wander elsewhere. My favorite album is Jumalten Aika.
Song picks: Ruttolehto Sis. Päivättömän Päivän Kansa (my fucking FAVORITE), Suden Tunti (well known hit), and also uhh check out their cover of Non Serviam cause it’s a fucking banger
Other bands that I like what I’ve heard but really can’t say much about them, whoops - Tyr (from the Faroe Islands, great stuff, Faroese is a baller language), Ensiferum, Nightwish (female-led).... I’m open to suggestions. Like I said, there are folk metal bands all over the world, and each is intrinsically linked to a sense of place and cultural identity that makes them unique. I’d love to hear about more tbh.

BTS and Ateez for the kpop group game ! 💜
Ateez:
My first bias: Hongjoong <3 it was the mullet <3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My current bias: Hongjoong <3 still sexy without the mullet <3
Tumblr media
Favorite Song: Win, I love this one!! In another life I would have probably said HALA HALA but I’ve listened to it too much lol, but honestly minus celebration the whole Fever 2 album is AMAZING def worth a listen, or several!
Favorite MV: Say My Name/HALA HALA
OTP: ... umm, I don’t really ship any Idols in general, but I tend to like the Seonghwa/Hongjoong dynamics, there was just something about that one time that Seonghwa was like “why aren’t you ever home anymore I miss you” “you want me home more?” “Yes” “then I’ll come home more often” and that other time Hongjoong said something like “you returned to where you should have always been” (with him) when talking about Seonghwa spending to much time with Wooyoung and San... it’s just very funny to me lol (these ‘quotes’ might be a bit off as I don’t remember exactly what was said but that was the gist of both conversations I believe!)
Best smile: Yunho honestly! He’s such an underrated member of Ateez!! He’s my second favorite and needs more love because I love him lol, a big big puppy baby whom I love and adore
Tumblr media
Fave Coreo: HALA HALA!!! ITS SO COOL!!
Fave era: Visuals: Say My Name, Music: Zero: Fever part 2
Merch?: I have a T-Shirt I got at hot topic and a Zero: Fever part 2 album!
Seen em live?: Nope.... but I would have if I could have! Would definitely love to go once we finally can!
Favorite voice: Def Mingi, his voice is what attracted me to the group, I LOVE the deep voice trend in kpop, Mingi, like Felix (Stray Kids) and Leedo (Oneus), really scratch that itch for me!!
Favorite dancer: San I guess?? Dancing isn’t really my thing as you know lol
BTS:
My first bias: Namjoon (I think Namjoon is a lot of English speakers first bias because of his English skills, and honestly he still has a huge place in my heart as you know! Plus he BIG SEXY) (I think of mic drop Namjoon and my brain implodes)
My current bias: Jimin, I just love his softness, I really love the members that take care of the rest and Jimin plays personal therapist (it’s the libra in him I get it you know?) to all, so I really appreciate this as it’s a very important thing for me (it’s probably my libra moon lol) but that’s what got me at first, then when I was getting into them I saw he struggled and no one was really helping him and he was like trying to do better and honestly it broke my heart so I full adopted the baby because he needed care and protection and actives my Aquarius sun and the ‘leave no man behind’ and ‘help/root for the underdog’ complex we have, so anyways, I love him for his softness and his fighting spirit because I want him to do well and succeed but also he’s a mess and sharp witted and a cheater at games (another trait I tend to like??????? Like that’s on me so????) he makes me laugh and I love to see him do well and win at things because he deserves it!! He’s also really motivated and a go-getter which is v sexy to me!! When things are tough he always works hard to fix them and do his best and honestly is there anything better than that? To me no, to my friend who says I put to much emphasis on work ethic? Yes. Also Jimin is big sexy, this is an undeniable fact
Favorite Song: Dionysus (like have you seen the MMA 2019 performance??? There’s no coming back from that) the song is just such a bop and one of the big ones that got me fully into them and kpop as a whole!! Good memories and a great song!!
Favorite MV: I’m a blood sweat and tears whore, could watch that mv any time anywhere babey
OTP: again, don’t really tend to genuinely ship anyone, but I really like a good YoonMin dynamic, love the way Yoongi roots for Jimin, and pushes him in small ways to be better, I think Jimin is pretty oblivious to this though??? And like Jimin needs so much audible praise and gentle care that I think Yoongi for him is very hard to understand even though I think Jimin is very much Yoongi’s favorite member, like maybe it’s because I’m super empathetic, but I always think of like two moments for them, the first is when Jimin was helping Yoongi makes those like 300 presents for his fans and Jimin stayed all day to help him out, Jimin was being Jimin so he was constantly asking if Yoongi appreciated him being there, and Yoongi being Yoongi didn’t say much to assure him, but like you could FEEL the happiness radiating off of Yoongi but like it hurt Jimin to not be directly praised? It’s just a big mess I love it, it’s horrendously painful to watch,
Then there’s the whole ‘Yoongi told me to be the project manager’ or whatever the job was called for their album, Like Yoongi wasn’t giving out advice to everyone... just Jimin (or at least the way in which I understand it), because I genuinely believe Jimin is his favorite and he’s pushing him to grow into a confident and capable person but like... I don’t think Jimin connected the ‘Yoongi is caring for me in his own unique way that isn’t words of affirmation’ dots... it’s a train wreck but I love it lol (plus also Yoongi saying he prefers Jimin’s voice?? When I think Jimin heard for so long that Kookie sings better?? He just loves that boy so much!!) anyways I digress, I just really love their dynamic and it’s my favorite to watch, I know I’ve talked about their dynamic before but honestly I could go on and on and on about it haha, I’m so glad they’re friends you know? Not only so I can watch them, but because Jimin’s selfless help will always be given to Yoongi without question, and because Yoongi will always push Jimin to be better... ok I’m done now for real this time lol
Best smile: Jungkook, his little bunny smile absolutely sends me to the moon it’s so cute!! (Jimin’s is a very close second!)
Tumblr media
Fave Coreo: Lie for sure!
Fave era: The storyline era with the acronym I always forget!! I think it spanned a couple of eras in the entirety but I loved it!! But also just like straight up Wings era!
Merch?: I have more BT21 one stuff than I think I have BTS stuff tbh haha, but I have all versions of MOS:7 I have some love yourself versions from a friend, and my army membership box I got to purchase the concert tickets we bought but never got to use :{
Seen em live?: was supposed to last year 😢
Favorite voice: Yoongi, love the way he raps, it’s a really aggressive and sexy flow, definitely my type, as someone who stans and loves rappers most, Yoongi will always have a major place in my heart, no one really compares on a talent scale for me, and his solo stuff is some of the sexiest you could ever imagine/hear, love it!!
Favorite dancer: Not super surprising I think but it’s totally Jimin!! Anytime I watch that man perform Lie I die lol, the way that man moves is a crime

So it's not sorting members and biases, but how would you rank weki meki albums (by whatever criteria you feel like doing lol)?
ooooo hmmmmmm............. thats interesting..... okay i’ll try it haha
WeMe - i actually went into making this list thinking that Lucky would be number 1, but the more i think about it and look at the tracklist... actually i think it’s WeMe lol. IDLYG is such a unique debut song and i dont care what anyone else says lol, i adore that song. Stay With Me is pretty iconic too. it’s not necessarily one of my favorite bsides of theirs, but it’s good. Neverland is underrated though for sure, i really like that song. and then Fantastic is honestly a candidate for being my favorite Weki Meki bside haha that song is just so... i dont even know, lol. undercover. superlover.
Lucky - this is one of the most solid mini albums in kpop, imo. Lucky is a fantastic intro, La La La is such an underrated title track, Iron Boy and Metronome both slap... i like the album’s vibe a lot
Hide and Seek - Oopsy is great, and Dazzle Dazzle was included on the album too, and normally when previous non-album singles are included in a subsequent album i think it’s kind of a waste of a space, but in terms of making a list like this, i gotta factor in the fact that this album has two title tracks on it lol. in this instance that’s a good thing. but not just that, Moya Moya is another one of my favorite bsides from them. The Paradise is fantastic too, i really wanna see what other stuff Suyeon writes if this is what we can expect haha. honestly with how much i wrote about this one... maybe i even like it more than Lucky? i’ve been thinking that Lucky is their best or one of their best mini albums for basically the whole time that i’ve been into Weki Meki, so i’m gonna have to put more thought into this before i make a decision that drastic hahaha. for me, that’s a big deal lol, i dont wanna just declare Hide and Seek better than Lucky unless im 100% sure. i’ll ruminate on this
Lock End LOL/Week End LOL - okay, so, this single album is above their other remaining mini album. oops. normally i wouldnt ever put a single album above a mini album (and probably wouldnt put a mini album above a full album), but like... this one has PICKY PICKY and TIKI TAKA lmao... i’ve listened to Tiki Taka more than countless other songs from groups i also love, and i’ve probably listened to Picky Picky more than i’ve listened to some entire groups, lol. and Whatever U Want is ANOTHER favorite bside. Petal Fortune is nice, i like it, but it’s not something i listen to that often. but so those first three songs are incredible and they literally (not a joke) changed my life haha, Picky Picky is my favorite kpop song of all time... but the reason this album isn’t higher is just because tbh i would need another banger song, i think. at least one more. it has my favorite song on it, but it is just a single album, even with the Tiki Taka repackage.
Kiss Kicks - okay now things are getting controversial. Crush isn’t my favorite title track and i’ve made no secret of that lol (but i do still love it, dont get me wrong), but i love True Valentine. ive been saying various bsides are “possibly my favorite”, but i think if i had to actually pick one (and only one) favorite bside right now, it’d probably be True Valentine. but so the controversial thing about this placement probably isnt the fact that Kiss Kicks is so low... because it’s only a single album with just three songs on it.... the controversial thing is that this album is above-
New Rules - sjdklmvldsfg,sf;lg. i LOVE Cool. it was my fifth favorite song last year, which is like super high praise from me lol, i put a LOT of thought into my top 10 list. being in my top 5 is like putting it in the S Tier lol. but uhhhhh idk... i’m just not feeling any of the bsides. Just Us, the one that the members wrote, is nice and it’s meaningful but it’s not something i’ve listened to very often. i dont even remember D-Day (that’s my bad, i should listen to it again). and Sweet Dreams... i know a lot of people like it, but... and this is gonna be a controversial opinion... i just can’t get into it. i could elaborate on that but i’ve written enough already lol... i don’t hate it, it just doesnt really work for me, it’s hard to explain.... well anyway lol. I do love Cool though
i could edit these to be more readable, it’s really clear that i’m just talking to myself in a stream of consciousness, but i’m not gonna proofread lmao this is just a tumblr post. i just like to ramble about the things i like haha, thank you for giving me an opportunity to do so hahaha. i already think about this kinda stuff on my own, without posting it lol

Obey Me! Brothers as songs from BLACKPINK’S ‘The Album’
I’ve been listening to the album on loop since its release. All the songs SLAPS. Eventually I came up with this so yeah let’s get started.
(All English lyrics are taken from genius.com)
Tumblr media
Lucifer: How You Like That
This one is pretty obvious.
First single from the album, first track, multiple records hit upon its release - idk sounds pretty much like “the mighty first-born” to me
The song is basically about escaping a toxic relationship. You know who else has a toxic relationship? That’s right, Mr. Godly Daddy Issues. He literally started a war against his dad.
“Again in such a dark place, light up the sky” & “In such a darker place, shine like the stars” is literally the Morningstar himself in Devildom and no one can change my mind on this. Fact.
Pridey McPrideface moment: “Look at you, now look at me”
There’s this line in the lyrics: “The day I went down with my wings lost/ Those dark days when I was trapped”, which I think fully represents his fall from heaven. Also queen Roseanne Park NAILED this scene in the MV:
Tumblr media
Yep. That’s the fall of an Archangel for me.
Tumblr media
Mammon: You Never Know
Tbh I’ve had a hard time deciding on Mammon’s song.
But then these lyrics hit me: “The words that everyone said so easily/ Maybe you can hear it soon/ I've heard enough I've heard enough/ Of the things that I'm not”
Mammon is constantly harassed by his brothers for being stupid. Sure, he might lack common sense, but it doesn’t give the brothers the full authority to shame him like that.
“But you'll never know unless you walk in my shoеs/ You'll never know, my tangled strings/ 'Causе everybody sees what they wanna see/ It's easier to judge me than to believe” That’s our classic misunderstood tsundere right there.
He’s probably the one who’s gonna stick with MC until the very end (y’all know how clingy he can be). “Even if the whole world changes/ I'm still the same”
Also remember during the Lamp event, he was the first one to say that he’d rather be with MC instead of ruling the world? Yeah, the line hits right there.
At the same time, his feelings for MC? Y O U N E V E R K N O W
(But everyone does eventually)
Tumblr media
Leviathan: Love To Hate Me
“Kinda sad that you always been like that/ See me making waves and you don't like that” Levi usually gets emotional because of mangas/animes/video games (and I wouldn’t be surprised if he would actually flood the House Of Lamentation). And how many times do we see the brothers complain about that throughout the storyline? Countless.
“Only thing I think about is big stacks” except the stacks are Ruri-chan goods.
Notice how Levi is the one who gets involved in family drama the least (unless his video games are the direct cause for them)? Sounds a lot like “I keep it light/ No, no, no drama in my life”.
Classic introvert line: “I need you? Nah, I been good lately/ Blowin' up, workin' busy” because who the fuck needs people when you can binge watch animes and blow shits up in video games all day?
Poor boy keeps chasing Mammon because of the debt. “I'm takin' back what you've taken from me” yeah you go boy.
Tumblr media
Satan: Pretty Savage.
The song title speaks for itself.
Satan is definitely a pretty boy (fight me, I dare you). He shows off a friendly smile way too often that people sometimes forget that he’s the Avatar Of Wrath.
And yeah, he can be pretty savage.
He HATES being compared to Lucifer. “It seems similar, but we are different from the core”. He loathes it even more if people start calling him by his bRoThEr’s name. “If you get our name wrong, ddu-du-ddu-du hit” aka prepare for the wrath of kitty boyo.
Did I mention how he loves messing up Lucifer’s life? That’s exactly what “Yeah, we some bitches you can't manage/ I make this difficult thing again” means.
When he gets angry, well “You better run, run, run”.
This whole song just fits him perfectly.
Well, except for the “I wore something similar to you, but it looks better on me” part because this man has absolutely no fashion sense.
Tumblr media
Asmodeus: Bet You Wanna
“MC I know you want meeeeee”
Horny song for a horny demon boyo.
Asmodeus is beautiful and he knows it. He’s undeniably the most confident demon in Devildom. He knows his looks are on another level. “Uh, I'm gonna make you go blind/ Every time I walk, my hips, they don't lie”
He’s also a party animal full of energy. Anywhere he goes, he’s gonna make sure all eyes are on him. “You wanna run with my love, I know you wanna/ From the club to the tub, you said you wanna/ Give me an all night hug, I bet you wanna”
And of course, the song screams his signature trait: his lust. “Let's do what we both desire/ On God, like I'm in the choir/ I bet you if you make me sweat, I'll still be on fire” Yeah mister, thank you for announcing your desire to have such intense sex that you’ll moan like a whole choir. Totally useful information.
Also imagine Asmo singing along to this with Cardi B.
The S A S S tho.
Tumblr media
Beelzebub: Ice Cream
Another obvious one.
“Wow, a food-themed song! Totally fits the Avatar Of Gluttony perfectly!”
That’s what you think, right? Well, there’s actually more to that.
At first glance, we all think that Ice Cream is just another summer song with cheerful and light-hearted beats, right? But haha SIKE BITCH it’s actually a horny song.
It’s even more horny than Bet You Wanna. See the lyrics for yourself.
And Beel, he may appear as a totally friendly demon who craves food 24/7 at first.
But as we go deeper into the storyline, we realise that he’s actually not nice and naive like we thought.
His personality has darker aspects (aka depressing memories) along with a needy side.
How many times were MC asked to feed him (and then given the option to have a passionate kiss with him) during the storyline? Idk, I lost count already.
Also I’m sure that 80% of this fandom wouldn’t mind being a hoe for him.
Tumblr media
Belphegor: Crazy For You
(SPOILERS FOR LESSON 16)
Oh boy, here comes the yandere vibes.
Belphie’s love is extremely obsessive. “If you're my (hu)man, I want you to myself”.
When he was trapped in the attic, he knew he needed a plan to get out. And he knew that plan would eventually trigger Lucifer so much. But he proceeded anyway and approached MC first, because all he needed then was their attention. “I know I'll have enemies long as you're into me/ But I don't care 'cause I got what I need”
Being the natural cunning demon he is, he knows how to manipulate MC into helping him. “I saw you/ And knew what I was trying to do/ I had to play it rеal, real smooth/ And once I finally made my move/ I went crazy over you”
Remember what he did to MC after lesson 16? Cow boyo began pining to us like crazy. That part was so smooth I almost forgot he choked us to death. (Admit it, some of you actually forgot about it.)
Like Jennie sang, “Feels wrong but it's right, right?”

Record Collection : the Beatles 1/?
Again, breaking these albums up to avoid a post that’s too long. Also the ? for number of parts since I think I might be getting a couple more for my birthday/xmas so that might be the last one when the time comes. But for now, here we are.
Tumblr media
The Beatles Second Album. 1964.
I think this is the oldest record in my collection considering it is a copy from 1964. This album is some of their North American album bullshit since this does contain some tracks from With the Beatles but America got Meet the Beatles and the track listing is different and just gah...at least they stopped this shit with Sgt. Pepper and beyond.
Favorite tracks : You Really Got a Hold on Me, Devil in Her Heart, Money (That’s What I Want), I’ll Get You, She Loves You.
Tumblr media
Hard Day’s Night Soundtrack. 1964.
This one I have a love/hate relationship with. I thought about buying the actual Hard Day’s Night album but since most of the songs are on this bad boy anyway, there isn’t really a point? Plus is still plays perfectly so....
Now, I’ve seen the movie many times and this soundtrack/album has a special place in childhood me’s heart.
Favorite tracks : A Hard Day’s Night, Tell Me Why, I Cry Instead, I Should Have Known Better, I’m Happy Just To Dance With You, And I Love Her, Can’t Buy Me Love, If I Fell (I actually have a tattoo for this song), Ringo’s Theme (This Boy instrumental).
Tumblr media
Rubber Soul. 1965.
This album...
This album right here? Talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, completely never been done before, unafraid to reference or not reference, put it in a blender, shit on it, vomit on it, eat it, give birth to it.....
Tumblr media
It’s probably my favorite Beatles album. No, it is my favorite album. It fucking slaps. As a kid I remember wanting an old ass used copy of this and as an adult I still wanted one. Instead I bought a remaster since damn, that Capitol track listing out here with Help! tracks like, no. I want that unadulterated Rubber Soul experience. Plus the Capital version doesn’t have Drive My Car. That’s a fucking capitol offense right there.
Favorite tracks : Drive My Car, Norwegian Wood, YOU WONT SEE ME (that song is an absolute banger), Nowhere Man, Think For Yourself, the Word, What Goes On, Girl, I’m Looking Through You, In My Life, Wait.
Tumblr media
Revolver. 1966.
Another album I enjoy greatly but ruined by Capitol since this is a copy from 1966 and it doesn’t have I’m Only Sleeping, Dr. Robert or Your Bird Can Sing.
When I was younger, I didn’t really care for Revolver. I was more of a Please Please Me and Beatles for Sale kind of bitch. Now? I love this album and I can see why it was my dad’s favorite. It has that Rubber Soul foundation and just built upon that and experimented even more (with music and drugs). The outcome is a fantastic listening experience.
Favorite tracks : Taxman, Eleanor Rigby, I’m Only Sleeping, Love You To, Yellow Submarine, She Said She Said, And Your Bird Can Sing, For No One, Doctor Robert, I Want to Tell You, Got to Get You Into My Life, Tomorrow Never Knows.
Tumblr media
Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. 1967.
If you asked teenage me what her favorite Beatles album was, it’d 100% be this one. Now? Maybe 3rd favorite. I do love this album tremendously and have many memories attached to it. Like how Rubber Soul is my comfort album, this is my drawing album.
Favorite tracks : a Little Help From my Friends, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, Fixing a Hole, She’s Leaving Home, Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!, When I’m Sixty Four, Lovely Rita, a Day in the Life.
Tumblr media
Magical Mystery Tour. 1967.
While a very questionable movie, the album slaps. Also it comes with a booklet with behind the scenes photos of the movie. One being a full page of John dressed like a waiter shoveling spaghetti for Ringo’s aunt character. If that isn’t quality, I don’t know what is.
Favorite tracks : Fool on the Hill, Flying, Blue Jay Way, Your Mother Should Know, I am the Walrus, Hello Goodbye, Strawberry Fields Forever, Penny Lane, Baby, You’re a Rich Man.
Tumblr media
The Beatles/ White Album. 1968
This one was a bit hit and miss for me growing up. I think the first copy I’ve ever owned of this album was burned CD’s from my brother’s friend. I loved Bungalow Bill and Rocky Raccoon and Back in the USSR but as I grew older, I came to appreciate much more of it. My favorite thing about this album , besides the music, is the track listing at the very end. Fucking Revolution 9 followed up by Ringo gently singing you good night. Whoever made that decision, thank you. It’s hilarious like ‘oh I hope you enjoyed that absolute hellscape here’s a lullaby 😘’.
Favorite tracks : Dear Prudence, Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da, the Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Happiness is a Warm Gun, Martha my Dear, I’m So Tired, Don’t Pass Me By, Julia, Yer Blues, Mother Nature’s Son, Everyboy’s Got Something to Hide Except for Me and My Monkey, Long, Long, Long, Helter Skelter, Sexy Sadie.
Tumblr media
Abbey Road. 1969.
Another album I enjoyed as a child but only a handful of songs. According to my brother, Maxwell’s Silver Hammer and Octopus’ Garden were my fuckin’ jams. I remember really liking Mean Mr Mustard as well. As I got older/ in my teen years I grew to like this album a lot and it was tied with Sgt. Pepper as my favorite. Now? In my top 5 for sure.
Favorite tracks : Come Together (I will never be over fuckin toe jam football like...I have questions, comments and concerns), Something, Oh! darling, Octopus’ Garden, Because, You Never Give Me Your Money, Sun King, Mean Mr Mustard, Polythene Pam, She Came in Through the Bathroom Window, Golden Slumbers, Carry That Weight (I always sing along to this one...it’s the law), the End, Her Majesty.
Tumblr media
Let it Be. 1979.
I got my dad’s copy of this album after he died and to my slight surprise, it’s a copy from 1970 that’s in really good condition! Tbh, this isn’t my favorite of theirs. I never cared for this album as a kid. Even now, it’s not one I listen to often but I do enjoy it a lot more than I did previously. It also wasn’t until a few weeks ago when I watched the documentary of making this and while an interesting watch, it was wholesome seeing Mal and watching George and Ringo lift each other up when showing each other their songs and giving suggestions.
Favorite tracks: Two of Us, Across the Universe, I Me Mine, Maggie Mae, I’ve Got a Feeling, One after 909, the Long and Winding Road, Get Back.
That’s my main albums I suppose you could say. Next? Compilations albums!

My thoughts on the Sanders Sides Spotify playlists- Virgil Edition!
Note: this is Purely me saying whether or not I like the songs, not theorising about any deeper meanings. I’ve done them all, so just click on the names to see my reactions to the others: Patton, Roman, Logan, Janus
Impressions from looking through the playlist: I don’t specifically know most of the songs (I know more of the bands), but I feel like that’ll be a recurring theme as I tend to stick within my very specific music taste and only add songs to my playlists if I hear them while I’m out and about and like them enough to find them on Spotify, which means my horizons aren’t broadened very often. The ones I do know do not surprise me that much (neither do the bands, for that matter), as they feel very Virgil
1: ‘Sunrise, Sunset’, by Bright Eyes. I didn’t mind it at first? But the chorus was a bit too,,, shouty for me. Probably Definitely a song I’d skip if it came up on a playlist in the future, as much as I liked the tune(/melody?). Not surprised to find it on Virgil’s playlist though, it gives off Angst. Was very in my face as I tried to continue reading fics.
2: ‘Lets Kill Tonight’, by Panic! At The Disco. One that I have probably heard before, as while I myself didn’t have an emo music phase, an ex friend did. I liked it more, as I expected to as I tend to like p!atd’s songs. Not one that I’d go out of my way to listen to again, but has been added to my 32 hour long playlist on Spotify (not my slightly more curated 10 hour one tho, but I mostly play the 10 hour one while doing work or while others are around soo). Once again felt like it suited Virgil, (as I imagine all of them will, so I might just call out ones that feel Odd if any do.)
3: ‘Sally’s Song’, by Amy Lee. It might shock some of y’all, but not one I’ve really heard before! I live in Australia so Halloween’s not a massive thing and I actually don’t know that many people who’ve watched The Nightmare Before Christmas. Thomas is actually one of the main reasons I know that the movie exists. I really liked it, unsurprisingly, so it too made its way to my 32 hour playlist (not the ten hour one, but only because I try to keep mostly ‘normal’ songs on there so there’s not that many songs from movies in it)
4: ‘It Ends Tonight’, by The All-American Rejects. I recognised the band, but not the title. I think I’ve heard this before though- I didn’t love it, but I didn’t hate it. I wouldn’t skip it if it popped up in a playlist at some stage in the future, but I haven’t added it to either of my playlists.
5: ‘I’d Hate To Be You When Everyone Fonds Out What This Song Is About’, Mayday Parade. Very long title (ok, I know in emo song title standards it’s not even that long but as I said I didn’t really have an emo phase so these sorts of titles always shock me) that slightly confuses me (who’s you? why is what the songs about bad for them??), but I liked it! Is now on my 32 hour playlist. I suspect that at the end of listening to all of these it will be longer than 32 hours.
6: ‘A Decade Under The Influence’, Taking Back Sunday. Another one that I liked enough that I wouldn’t skip it in the future, but didn’t add to my playlist. I just didn’t vibe with it enough. Happened to line up with Roman having a Bad Feeling™ in the fic I was reading tho so that was entertaining
7: ‘Thks fr th mmrs’, by Fall Out Boy. This was the first song to invoke feelings of Nostalgia™ in me, and I’m kinda shocked it’s not already in my 32 hour playlist. That has been remedied. This song was played a fair bit in my childhood, both on the radio and by an older sister. I imagine a lotta people my age had a similar thing. Obviously one I Love. Got me to stop reading in favour of being a doofus by lip syncing and dancing around while lying in bed (and deafening my eardrums as I turned it up louder) during the chorus.
8: ‘Be Calm’, by Fun. This was the second song that I didn’t recognise either the title or the band for. I liked it, even though the initial warped carnival-esque tune thing made me think of Pennywise. Pretty much as soon as the singing started I added it to the 32 hour playlist. It might make its way to the shorter one one day, as I actually really like it. It’s just a bit odd, and as I said I try to keep that playlist to more ‘conventionally normal’ songs as it’s designed for me to be able to play around other people without getting weird looks.
9: ‘I’m Not Okay (I Promise)’, by My Chemical Romance. Let’s be real. I would’ve cried if this song wasn’t included in the playlist. You would’ve cried if this song was not included in this playlist. If all of their songs aren’t in their respective playlists I’ll be disappointed. This song being in the playlist prompted me to go back and rewatch that episode. so many jokes originate in that ep. also we only knew one name back then? and the dark sides were barely a blip on our radars??? how????? ok back to the song- not my favourite, but I wasn’t expecting it to be. Probably won’t skip it every time it comes up in the future, but it’s definitely not my cup of tea.
10: ‘Imaginary’, by Evanescence. I laughed when I realised this was next up, as rewatching the q&a reminded me that Virgil said they were his favourite band so I’d noted that I had to look out to see if any of their songs were on the playlist. I liked it enough to add it to the 32 hour playlist, but wouldn’t go out of my way to play it in the future.
11: ‘Soft Shock- Acoustic Version’, by Yeah Yeah Yeahs. When this started my first thought was ‘oh, I think I’m gonna really like this one!’ and my second was ‘I’m kinda surprised it’s on Virgils playlist, but it feels right somehow.’ (It made more sense as I listened to the lyrics, I think I was just massively caught off guard by it being acoustic). I hadn’t heard of either the song or the band before this, but my initial instinct was Correct and it has in fact.... made it onto the ten hour playlist!! Hell yeah!! I actually liked it enough to listen to the og version as well, which I still liked but slightly less. (Also I have heard some of their music before as I realised looking at the album this came from that my one of my sisters used to listen to them, which I’m not that surprised about as we have Similar tastes in music)
12: ‘The Good That Won’t Come Out’, by Rilo Kiley. I liked this enough to consider adding it to my 32 hour playlist, and the lyrics were interesting, I just didn’t vibe with it that much. 🤷‍♀
13: ‘Sick Sad World’, by Nervus. The bands name feels very apt for Virgil. I liked the rhythm of this one, and it was also a Certified Mood tbh. Got added to the 32 hour playlist!! Also made me wanna hug Virgil.
14: ‘Ignorance’, by Paramore. I wasn’t expecting to love this, as I don’t remember really liking much of Paramore’s music in the past even though I know I must’ve heard some, but I didn’t hate it. Didn’t get added to either of my playlists, but I probably wouldn’t skip it in the future.
15: ‘The Ice Is Getting Thinner’, by Death Cab for Cutie. I was expecting to like this one, as one of my favourite youtuber’s fave songs is a death cab for cutie song and I really like it as well. I did like this one quite a bit, but it only made its way onto my 32 hour playlist.
16: ‘Overkill- Acoustic Version’, by Colin Hay. I didn’t mind this, but didn’t like it enough to put it on the 32 hour playlist. I possibly would like the original version more, but I can’t be bothered finding it especially given my first impression is just meh
17: ‘Under Pressure’, by My Chemical Romance. I didn’t love it as much as I love the original, but it did prompt me to check if I’d added the original to my two playlists. Apparently I didn’t, even though I was listening to a Lot of Queen when I was deeply entrenched in good omens.
18: ‘Everything is Alright’, Motion City Soundtrack. I liked this one! I think I might’ve heard It before, but it’s been a while. It got added to the 32 hour playlist.
19: ‘The Middle’, by Jimmy Eat World. I didn’t recognise the title b u t I did recognise the song. Obviously. Because I’m a gen z with older siblings. It was the second big nostalgia feels song, which was made even stronger by me not immediately recognising the title (unlike thks fr th mmrs). Was added to the 32 hour playlist as soon as I realised what song it was
20: ‘Vindicated’, by Dashboard Confessional. I knew this, but mostly from a music podcast called Punch up The Jam so hearing it in full was weird. Added it to the 32 hour playlist but wouldn’t go out of my way to listen to it again.
Final thoughts: I know I said I never had an emo phase in music, but I do actually like a lot of it even tho I was never That Kid, so I was kinda expecting to at least like a lot of these songs. My favourite song was definitely Be Calm, closely followed Soft Shock and Thks Fr Th Mmrs. 12/20 got added to my 32 hour playlist, and 2 (I eventually decided my love of Be Calm was strong enough for it to be an exception) to the 10 hour one!

27. favorite activity to do in cold weather? Baking, drawing, crafts, standing in the rain. Everything.
28. five songs to describe you? 6/10 - Dodie Robert Frost - Mal Blum Caught in the Middle - Paramore Side Effects - Jade Bird Snitches Get Stitches - Onsind  Bonus track: The Seed - Aurora I wish I still had the playlist I made of songs I relate to, several of these were on it though.
29. best way to bond with you? Oversharing, or telling me about things you’re into.
30. places that you find sacred? Nature. My favourite spots are little creeks/rivers in wooded areas, but just like, all of it is special and should be treated as such. Also bedrooms.
31. what outfit do you wear to kick ass and take names? I think maybe I’m not gutsy or whatever enough, but also unpredictable. I wear whatever I like, and I’m just as likely to cry in all of them as I am to accidentally get in a fight.
32. top favorite vines? I feel so basic because I never really did the vine thing.  There was one that nearly killed me because I literally started to choke that was in some kind of office and the bit like can you run this past me again, and they just fucking legged it past them holding a folder up, Saw it once, never saw it again. Road work ahead. Why you can’t lift a house (might be a tok?) Brass dad and oven kid Look at this graaaaph Never learned how to read I can’t sit I have hemorrhoids The one with the people in blankets bobbing the nana nanana song Fr esh avo ca do Look at all these chickens
33. most used phrase in your phone? I love you - if I had to guess
34. advertisements you have stuck in your head? right now, nothing. I often get the old Super Liquor jingle lodged in there though.
35. average time you fall asleep? 6am?
36. what is the first meme you remember ever seeing? Charlie the unicorn or that one Noodles video by Cyanide and Happiness. Are those even memes?
37. suitcase or duffel bag? Depends. I mostly use a bag though since I never go anywhere for long.
38. lemonade or tea? Tea? Usually if you ask for lemonade here you get Sprite which is not lemonade.
39. lemon cake or lemon meringue pie? I had a vegan lemon meringue pie once, so good. Cake is easier to make though, and I can eat more in one sitting without getting sick xD
40. weirdest thing to ever happen at your school? Um, the principal in my last year of school got caught for being a peeping tom a few years after I left.
41. last person you texted? My Fiance.
42. jacket pockets or pants pockets? Jacket pockets
43. hoodie, leather jacket, cardigan, jean jacket or bomber jacket? Depends on the rest of the outfit and the weather. I wear Jean jackets most though.
44. favorite scent for soap? I love lavender, or vanilla/candy/fruity/baked goods type scents. I still have a bottle of Sugar Fairy spray from lush from a year ago and I love the smell of that.
45. which genre: sci-fi, fantasy or superhero? Fantasy I think.
46. most comfortable outfit to sleep in? Nekkid?
47. favorite type of cheese? As a kid it was feta. Now I only eat vegan cheese. I was never a huge cheese fan tbh.
48. if you were a fruit, what kind would you be? Rotten xD um probably a cranberry or something because I’m small, and I’m not a fan of cranberry.
49. what saying or quote do you live by? An it harm none do what you will. Or treat others as you wish to be treated.
50. what made you laugh the hardest you ever have? Probably one of the vines I listed above, either “run it past” or “can’t lift a house” because both of those resulted in crying and choking.
51. current stresses? My cat has been throwing up and having diarrhoea the past week or so, she’s been to the vet, it got better for a bit, but tonight suddenly got worse. Living with my parents who I have a very toxic relationship with. Living in a single very overfilled room. Trying to not spend money so that I can save up to move next year. Nightmares about my trauma. Either the house is haunted or there’s a build up of negative energy (probably that).
52. favorite font? I always liked the look of all of the script style fonts (freestyle, french, lucida, lucida calligraphy, Edwardian, Palace) but they’re not accessible so for anything people will actually see (which is literally nothing) I always go with arial.
53. what is the current state of your hands? Slight rash on one finger because I’m sensitive to what is in a lot of hand washing products apparently (never an issue until the pandemic), one broken finger nail that is a bit shorter than the rest. Not painted nails because energy. I always wear my engagement ring, usually I wear several other rings but with how my skin is being I thought I’d better not for a while.
54. what did you learn from your first job? Bakeries are hell, my circadian rhythm will not adjust to anything besides its natural state for longer than a couple of days at a time no matter how long or hard I try. I can absolutely fall asleep standing up.
55. favorite fairy tale? Ugly Duckling
56. favorite tradition? I don’t have anyway... Yet? Hopefully when I move this can become a thing.
57. the three biggest struggles you’ve overcome? I’m interpretting overcome loosely here, meaning “I have not died from this” - Suicide of my first love - Bullying - 3 different jobs that all nearly killed me
58. four talents you’re proud of having? Literally can’t think of one. I’m not talented. I’m passable at a couple of things, but I worked for those things and I’m still not good enough for anyone to confuse me for being talented xD Those things I care about that I’ve worked on a lot are singing, art, languages, crafts? I still struggled to come up with 4. My bad.
59. if you were a video game character, what would your catchphrase be? Aw jeez xD
60. if you were a character in an anime, what kind of anime would you want it to be? Magical Girl! This is an easy one, give me the powers and the clothes yessss.
61. favorite line you heard from a book/movie/tv show/etc.? Literally sitting here drawing a blank, so instead of favourite here is the first one that came into my head “eyes are the genitals of the head” (may have that wrong, I’m watching the Office for the first time rn)
62. seven characters you relate to? Clementine from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Amelie from Amelie Matilda from Matilda Quasimodo from the Hunchback of Notredame (also my favourite plush as a kid) Iris - The Holiday Jess - New Girl Amelia Shepherd - Grey’s Anatomy Struggled with this because suddenly I drew a blank and also couldn’t remember who my Fiance was talking about every time he’s watched a character and said “that’s you” repeatedly.
63. five songs that would play in your club? Starlight - Superman Lovers Pump It - Black Eyed Peas I Bet that You Look Good on the Dancefloor - Arctic Monkeys All the Things She Said - tATu Doctor Jones - Aqua Bonus: Push Up - Freestylers These are ones  I have memories of dancing to when I was younger so that’s how I picked, but I’d absolutely be a themed night club with different music on different nights.
64. favorite website from your childhood? Neopets, which I still play daily. The first I played was MaMaMedia, then Bubblegum Club.
65. any permanent scars? That’s a SORE subject heh get it heh
66. favorite flower(s)? Lavender, rose, peony
67. good luck charms? I usually carry gemstones if I’m needing to be particularly lucky, or sigils.
68. worst flavor of any food or drink you’ve ever tried? I hate anything spicy. I had rootbeer candy that tasted like literal dirt. I can’t eat banana stuff without gagging and getting a headache. I hate anything that is artificial blackberry or blackcurrant, tastes like shitty cough syrup.
69. a fun fact that you don’t know how you learned? Sea Monkeys breathe through their feet, but I remember where I learned that.
70. left or right handed? right
71. least favorite pattern? depends entirely on the colours, I like patterns. but certain stripes do make my eyes feel funny.
72. worst subject? If PE counts, then that. If not, math.
73. favorite weird flavor combo? I love pineapple on pizza but that’s not weird. Iused to eat cheese and jam sandwiches as a kid though.
74. at what pain level out of ten (1 through 10) do you have to be at before you take an advil or ibuprofen? I operate on how long it has lasted instead of how bad it is, essentially I get so desperate so I’ll try it even though it probably won’t help. I have the resistance of a rhino to most meds.
75. when did you lose your first tooth? No idea, like 4 I think? I did keep them in a weird little box for no reason though because they never got taken away from under my pillow.
76. what’s your favorite potato food (i.e. tater tots, baked potatoes, fries, chips, etc.)? I’m a fan of a good mash if it has lots of flavour (like gravy). Otherwise, crisps or fries.
77. best plant to grow on a windowsill? I grew a radish once! Something cat safe though these days, also maybe something heavy, and hard to knock over?
78. coffee from a gas station or sushi from a grocery store? Grocery Store sushi, if it’s just veg.
79. which looks better, your school id photo or your driver’s license photo? My only ID is my passport, and it is BAD.
80. earth tones or jewel tones? Both.
81. fireflies or lightning bugs? Fireflies (ten million of them to be precise)
82. pc or console? Grew up with PC. Now play my switch mostly.
83. writing or drawing? Both. Wrote more as a kid, draw more now.
84. podcasts or talk radio? Podcasts.
84. barbie or polly pocket? Both. But I prefered pollies as a kid
85. fairy tales or mythology? mythology
86. cookies or cupcakes? cupcakes
87. your greatest fear? Based on my nightmares, stairs.
88. your greatest wish? To live in a comfy house, in the country, with my Fiance, I have travelled the world, we have pets, I can function, we are free.
89. who would you put before everyone else? My Fiance and out animals.
90. luckiest mistake? Can’t think of any, most of my mistakes have been more like bad choices, also never turned out well for me.
91. boxes or bags? Depends what it’s for?
92. lamps, overhead lights, sunlight or fairy lights? lamps, or fairy lights. Unless I’m particularly anxious, then overheads.

95. favorite app on your phone? LINE, it has my fiance, and animated stickers.
96. desktop background? Little Twin Stars
97. how many phone numbers do you have memorized? My own.
I never get asks and needed to distract myself so I’m going to just answer these anyway, like a survey or something. Original post by tr33-g1rl

i cant remember if i sent you one earlier SO, what's your favourite metal band?
Hi Adriana!^^ You didn’t^^ or it didn’t get through. Who knows lol
Oh boy. I’m not great at deciding and it really depends on my mood.
I obviously love Nightwish (they are most likely my most reblogged metal band on here because they have enough fans who would also spend time on this site), but there are so many more.
Beast in Black are a fun power metal with 80s synthie influences. They are also a bunch of nerds and their band name as well as many songs are inspired by a manga called Berserk lol
Myrath is also on the list of favorites. Saw them live with Beast in Black a year ago and they are also a really good live band. I’ve known them before but I always enjoy finding out how a band is live. I completely forgot to get tickets for their solo show but then Covid happened and I don’t even know if their concert in my town took place anyway.
Obviously if I name Nightwish I have to name Epica. Still have to go through parts of their discography tbh but Simone is a fantastic singer and their music is very much recognizable as their music.
I’m also getting into Brothers of Metal atm and they are hilarious!
So far this is full of power and symphonic so let’s change genres for a sec. Let’s go to Melodic Death Metal. More specifically what Insomnium are doing. Also a band who do their own thing and I love their atmospheric sound and the harmonies.
A band that started out in Melodeath but changed some elements of their style and are referred to as “Avantgarde metal” apparently is Avatar and they are amazing. CW clowns.
What would this list be without at least one German band that isn’t Rammstein (like them but tbh that’s kinda a given lbr): Oomph! who have been around since before Rammstein and as far as I remember have been influential for them as well. Fun fact: in English both bands genre is often referred to as “Industrial metal” but in German we call their genre “Neue Deutsche Härte”.
Another German band which are more hard rock than metal but details (she said but could discuss subtleties in music genres for hours) I really like is Kissin’ Dynamite. They are my age and I found out by accident that I knew about them before their name was Kissin Dynamite. They once won the school band competition that exists/existed(?) here in Germany and got to appear on a kids TV program when they were about 13 lol And I watched that when it aired.
Another band that moves between genres a bit. They grew in the gothic scene but as both subcultures blur into each other sometimes (metalhead guy and his goth gf is probably the most common couple combination you find here lol).. anyway, it’s Lord of the Lost who are from my hometown as well.
One of my absolute favorite bands is a band that started out at renaissance fairs and turned more and more punk over the years. Also more metal in certain songs. Saltatio Mortis. Basically a Folk Punk, Rock and Metal act^^ And I didn’t get to see them live this year which is super weird because I usually see them at least once every year.
I’m also a big fan of basically anything white dads listen to because my parents were teens and young adults in the 80s and I grew up with that stuff. Basically Mötley Crüe is when I’m ignoring the sexism for once because otherwise their stuff is a lot of fun to listen to. Also my English was shit when I first listened to them so I didn’t know what they sing about.
Talking about 80s, there is a New Wave of Hair Metal and I love it. Found Santa Cruz through that (but we’re ignoring anything after their first three albums because only the singer is left and he isn’t that good a writer imo).
Something that’s definitely not for everyone: Carach Angren. They’re a symphonic black metal band so be prepared for it to be loud as in cliché loud as well as the video being creepy.
A band I’ve been listening to since I was.. idk.. 14 maybe.. is the GazettE. Also one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to. Again, the video may contain things one can find disturbing.
Another band I’ve been listening to for about the same amount of time is D’espairsRay. They had to disband though because the singer had problems with his throat. Also a really great concert I went to^^
And another disbanded band: Girugämesh. Got to see them twice and I’m currently wearing the hoodie from their last full album lol
Also: the most metal non-metal band - Heilung. Some people might know them because one of their songs was used for a GoT trailer, others might know them from the Vikings soundtrack, and others might know them from the Senua’s Sega: Hellblade 2 trailer.
Okay, I think this is enough. This is getting too long already lol
Thank you! <3

Oooo, how about two from each of them? Fanfic asks: J and P, film asks: 15 and 16, music asks: 20 and 26.
OMG thanks!!! :DDD
Ask games: Fanfic asks, Film asks and Music asks. (People you can still send me asks if you want, asks are fun to answer to!)
***
FANFIC ASKS:
A little background before we get to the questions: I haven’t written too many, actually only 6 quite short ones (and one of them is a bit longer than usual) about Die Ärzte (Bela/Farin FTW) and all of these I have written between the years 2009 and 2012, so I was 18-21 which means they are not that good. And there’s lots of things I wouldn’t write anymore. I also have a WIP on my computer, I started it in 2012 but stopped writing altogether only to start writing again in the end 2018, it has bit over 28k words currently and tbh I have written 90% of that when I started writing again two years ago. I still have my old ones up on LiveJournal (ask for a link), but I haven’t published anything fron this later one as I’ve just been writing down all kinds of snippets whenever I have had an inspiration. I think those are also a lot better in quality than what I wrote before, the old ones are quite cringey.
J. What is your favorite fic that you’ve written?
I guess we talk about those fics I have also finished, now. It’s actually hard to decide but I would say my favourite is either Why not even once? or The Boring Book Freak. I think the latter is actually The favourite.
The first one (was actually my second dä ff overall) is set to happen in 2003 and in that one Farin is leaving for another vacation somewhere and Bela wants to go with him, but Farin wants to travel alone and Bela is struggling with that, as well as with Farin finally leaving and having to somehow survive his time at home without Farin there. The writing itself is bit stupid and I feel that the end got bit too far but otherwise I like the idea.
The second one (came actually after the previous one) is set to happen in the early/mid 90s (my fave Bela/Farin era btw) and on that they just are at some random summer cottage. Now, fuck cottagecores and such, I wrote it because summer cottages are a thing in Finland and I wrote it when cottagecore was not even cool yet. Somehow I imagined that it would be very Farin-like to rent a cottage from the middle of nowhere, in a forest and then spend a weekend or so there with Bela. Who then is not entertained at all and is bored because Farin won’t put away his book and won’t give him any attention, so he tries everything to get Farin’s attention. I especially like the visual images this fanfic gives to me, I can see their hairs and outfits so well and those are also aesthetically very pleasing. (They look the same as in that Absolut Live interview from the 90s, I don’t control their looks with my fics usually, I just have an idea and then my brain creates how they look in that particular scene :D)
I have also written a short songfic around the lyrics of their song “Ich weiß nicht (ob es Liebe ist)” and it was fun to imagine that as Bela/Farin. That was fun to write.
This got a bit long so I put the rest under a cut:
P. What are your favorite tropes to write?
(Had to google what a trope is lol. I’m old-school and no longer know most of the terms unless they’re old terms.)
Angst - I put my own angst, sadness and angriness into my writing often. It’s when I feel like in real life I would need other people but I don’t know how to reach out or don’t just feel comfortable about opening up, I open up a file and start writing. This is also where we get to the next trope...
Hurt/Comfort - But not so that X hurts Y, but that Y feels hurt for other reasons and then X comforts them. I kinda got obsessed with this theme after being bullied at school so I was always hurt but never comforted, so I often go back to those feels and emotions with my text to look for that comfort (hug, nice words, whatever) I never got in real life.
Fluff - This is bit complicated because I like writing fluff but I also hate reading fluff I have written. Because it does not sound like me. And sometimes when I write, I feel like standing behind my own back and vomiting a little on the inside because of how cheesy and disgusting that is but still I can’t stop writing. And then I feel like a different person when I read them because I can’t believe it’s ME who wrote them. The same way when I watch movies and people kiss, I always look away. And I want to look away when I read my fanfiction. But I can’t, especially because I know I looked at that scene in my head when I wrote it.
Humour - I love humour so much and I like to include this to my writing. Normally I put the humour in my comics but some of that fits also in the regular texts too.
***
FILM ASKS:
These are super tough but also fun - I have been trying to think of what to answer to these for days.
15. A film everyone loves but you hate?
The Avengers (-12). Sorry but not sorry. Well I don’t hate it but I don’t understand why everyone says it’s the best Marvel movie ever. It’s not. It’s full of clichés and stupid forced heteroromances and whatnot and the plot was just so, so predictive I don’t understand why it’s often talked about as some sort of cinematic master piece. I literally was able to tell everything that was gonna happen next when I watched it for the first time. Only cool things in that movie are Loki and Iron Man, whose character I already liked as I had seen the Iron Man movie and liked it. But I hated both Thor movies (the third one is awesome tho).
I like Marvel and I have seen I guess most of the movies - before MCU all good Marvel movies to come out were The X-Men movies and Spider-Man movies, and because I saw so many terrible Marvel movies, I was avoiding the whole MCU and I got into these movies much later and still, after seeing them all, I say The Avengers is one of the worst ones. Thor and Thor 2 are pretty much even worse (and I haven’t even seen the Hulk movie because it looks terrible), mainly because I just can’t stand the fact they’re mainly just built around Thor and his love interest...
16. A film you love but everyone else hates?
Spider-Man 3 (or the whole trilogy with Tobey Maguire). I see we continue with Marvel here but seriously I don’t understand why everyone is always picking on Tobey’s version of Spider-Man? And people especially hate the third movie and how Venom was portrayed in it (I’m obsessed with Venom’s human teeth pls I want his teeth), when it’s actually the best one for me. The second one is bit boring because it was again all about whining and Mary-Jane... Anyway, the reason why I am so attached to these movies is that I saw the first Spider-Man movie from TV when I was a teenager and in junior high myself, and I was bullied and a bit of a nerd so I could relate to Peter Parker a lot, and it gave me just so much strength to see him become Spider-Man and to stand up against the bullies and other assholes.
I also saw the third movie in the movie theater and there was one scene during which I started hysterically laughing with my friend because of an expression Tobey made as he was sitting on a bed, I don’t know why but somehow I just totally lost it at that :D It still makes me laugh so much when I see it! And when the movie ended, I heard a The Killers song “Move Away” for the first time during the end credits and TK was one of my favorite bands at the time (and still is).

MUSIC ASKS:
20. a song that empowers you
It gotta be Dead! by My Chemical Romance:
youtube
This album was what got me through all the shit that happened when I was 15+ and especially this song always made (and still makes) me feel so good. I often listened to my old mp3 player while walking to school and back home and every time this song came by, I just felt like nothing can harm and that life FINALLY was so great! It’s so energetic and still makes me feel that living is actually super awesome.
26. a song that taught you a lesson
Hmmm. I think I will answer to this with Dusche by Farin Urlaub.
youtube
That thumbnail is terrible but... And why did I choose this song? Well, I’m all for the sound what comes to music and I’d say at least 80% of all lyrics go way over my head. I just don’t have the skills for understanding poetry and also very poetic lyrics make me go crazy. I hate not knowing and when I have to assume, guess and interpret something. I don’t want to guess but I wanna know what someone has actually thought.
Dusche was the first song that had lyrics that for the first time ever actually spoke for me. I probably saw some video with English subtitles a fan had made and it just blew me away because holy shit, people are capable of writing lyrics even I can understand??? And that way I realized I can like lyrics but only if they make absolutely no sense (aka are funny or somewhat crazy, like Dusche) or when they are written in a story form or sung from the 1st person view or to “you” or in passive - but only if I can get behind the idea there.
After Dusche, Farin’s song Porzellan followed. And one of my absolute favourites is Karten. So, Farin is one of the only few people whose lyrics I have been able to understand. I still don’t hear lyrics and don’t understand a majority of the lyrics my fave bands write, and I have understood only a couple of Bela’s lyrics and I’m not sure if I’ve understood any of Rod’s lyrics. It’s not even about the language barrier anymore really, it’s just the topics or wordings I cannot comprehend.
Thank you again for the ask! This was very interesting to ponder and answer to :)

Top 10 2019
For the past couple of years I’ve been doing a top 10 list for the year in music that I like. This includes an a category for my favorite LP and EP from the year as well as a top 10 songs. I’ve also decided this year that I will be talking about other honorable mentions that are wonderful but did not make the list and some artists that had incredible years.
Let’s start with this years music for me, which was incredible. As many know I actually released a song in November on all streaming platforms. Something I’ve dreamed of doing for a long time and is super surreal to see happen. Makes me so happy to have accomplished that, thanks to everyone who has listened. Here’s a link if you haven’t yet and would like to listen!
It’s no shocker to people that know me that I am dumb passionate about dance music so as expected most of the list is just that. It was also a great year for pop music too though so there’s some pop in here as well. You can find a playlist of the top songs, as well as Lightwave here. I’ve also gone ahead and linked all the songs and albums mentioned below.
LP of the Year
Hi This Is Flume - Flume
Wow this one was wild. Most people kinda expected there to be some new Flume coming, it had been a while since we got any and there had been a ton of rumors. But he really shocked everyone when he announced randomly that he was releasing an entire mixtape the next day. It’s 17 songs and an incredible experience from front to back, with each song flowing into the next one. Not only was there a ton of new music but he also released a large visualizer to go along with it. The visualizer and music together really made it what it is. The visualizer largely consists of Harley, aka Flume, walking through various environments or driving a custom car through the desert. There’s some trippy stuff happening with editing and some really weird visual effects. One of my favorite parts of the video is at the end where he walks up to the ocean and the water cuts vertically, looking like an amazing wall of water. Looks so surreal, which kind of describes the albums sound in a nutshell. The entire album is a journey through sound design and it really challenges the listener to question what is expected in music. Flume’s signature style lends itself very well to such ideas with the choppiness that he so often employs. He mixes a wide variety of styles into the mixtape, from more traditional future bass like Wormhole and Spring and hip hop such as High Beams. A majority of the album is instrumental, letting the production and accompanying visuals do most of the storytelling. However, there are still some vocal features such as JPEGMAFIA and of course Kucka. The album also includes features from two incredible producers, Sophie and Eprom, both of which were very big surprises to me. Every song on the album has a specific place and together the full picture is created, listening to this album front to back is truly inspiring. When I did my first listen through I was blown away and taken to what felt like another world, which is why I’m choosing Hi This Is Flume over any of the other great albums that came out this year.
Some other incredible albums from this year deserve recognition as well:
Good Faith - Madeon
This one was absolutely in 2nd place and the only reason it isn’t in first place is because there’s a song or two I wasn’t particularly fond of. While I don’t think Good Faith is as good as Madeon’s debut album Adventure it certainly has an amazing cohesiveness and style to it that sets it apart. Good Faith has a much more organic sound, utilizing a lot of choir vocals and instruments. Starting with Dream Dream Dream the album cues you into the experience you are about to embark on, instantly setting the mood with almost ethereal vocal sounds that are followed by some truly inspiring lyrics. Hugo (Madeon’s real name) has a true knack for creating heartwarming and bittersweet lyrics, evoking incredible amounts of emotion from the listener. But not all the songs are somber of course, many are celebratory as well, like No Fear No More for instance. My favorite song on this album is Mania but you’ll read more about that one later. If you only want to listen to one of the albums of this list, I’d say go with Good Faith. Even though it didn’t take my top spot I feel that it’s the type of music that absolutely anyone can get into. Hi This Is Flume has many tracks that are more experimental in nature and isn’t for everyone, but Good Faith sets itself apart in a way that anyone can vibe with.
Ascend - Illenium
I wasn’t sure how much I was going to like this one tbh. Some Illenium songs just don’t do anything for me in all honesty, and his last album I didn’t think was very good other than a few singles. This one was way different though. It really took me by surprise, and while there are a few songs I don’t think are good, the vast majority if the album was fantastic. My favorites being That’s Why, Gorgeous, and Lonely. But the songs on this album that aren’t good are very much songs I don’t care to listen to again, which is why I decided against it for LP of the Year. Compared to the cohesive narrative in Hi This Is Flume this album just lacks some substance. There’s a lot of fantastic music throughout Ascend but, with exception of a few songs, it doesn’t feel like each of these songs is necessarily integral to the experience, they just happened to all be put in the same album. It also doesn’t help that there were like 5 singles.
Wild Youth - Dabin
Speaking of albums with too many singles. This album is on the list not because I thought it was good, but actually because this was the most disappointing album of the year. It’s 10 songs total, but there were 4 singles released and 2 of the songs were previously released in an EP in 2018. I’m just gonna come out and say this, if you release a majority of your album before the album comes out, then it isn’t an album it’s a collection of singles. There were some great songs on the album including my favorite Dabin song Lights as well as some other wonderful songs like Another Day and Youth. But again, the issue with this album is not the music itself, it’s the way the songs involve interact with each other. And simply put, they don’t. You can’t release 6 of 10 songs on your album and make something cohesive. I really enjoy listening to several of these songs by themselves but they’re just singles to me.
High Highs to Low Lows - Lolo Zouai
Best pop album of the year for sure, although Kim Petras gives it a very good run for its money. The lyricism by Lolo is amazing in this album. It’s so punny and has fantastic flow. Even the album’s title is a pun, how can you not like it. There’s so many good songs like Caffeine, Moi, and Out the Bottle. Anyone that enjoys pop music and RnB should love this album.
Clarity - Kim Petras
The other pop album this year that blew me away. This is quintessential pop music for 2019, with a lot of clear dance music inspiration from songs like Icy and Got My Number. Also, while you don’t necessarily have to like her music because of this, Kim Petras is trans and I have an incredible amount of respect for her to make it in the industry. I can’t imagine how hard it must have been for her to get to where she is now with the way many higher ups in the music industry are.
Good At Falling - The Japanese House
This album is just really cute. The vocalist has a wonderful voice and the lyrics flow very well. There’s a lot of great songs, including my personal favorite Worms. If you like indie music give this one a listen for sure.
Fubar - Tsuruda
These tracks are insane, best bass music album of the year hands down. Please listen.
III - Banks
When We Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? - Billie Eilish
Renegades of Light - LSDREAM
We Are Dust - Xilent
EP of the Year
Dawn - SG Lewis
There were also some great EPs this year, with this one at the top in my opinion. Every single song on this EP is absolutely incredible. SG Lewis shows his attention to detail with every piece of production, starting with Blue, which captures the listeners attention from the second the bass comes in. Emotions flow like water throughout the album, morphing from song to song seamlessly. SG has a very unique sound to him, it’s vibey and both uptempo but somber at the same time. But more than just his production make this EP incredible, the vocals are all impeccable. With vocal performances from SG Lewis himself as well as Clairo and Honne, 5 of the 6 songs on this EP have a vocal, and each one stands out just as much as the last. The type of energy within this EP is so unique, the only way I can describe it is infectious.
Dawn had a lot of competition this year including the following stand out EPs:
Tangential Zones - G Jones
It’s not even remotely a secret that I am an enormous G Jones fan. But part of the reason for that is that all of his music is so damn good. This EP consists of a bunch of tracks he’s been playing in his live show for the last year, I’ve had to privilege of hearing some of these live previously and I thought they were good then but the studio versions of those tracks are even more incredible. Gregg is so good at making simple ideas fill an entire song, and he does it with such mastery. He’s truly one of the best producers of our time and he compliments it with incredible vision for everything he does.
Turn Off The Lights - Dog Blood
Skrillex and Boys Noize are back with some more techno inspired bangers. All 4 songs on this EP are insane, and so are the features, from Otira to X&G. To me, the songs Break Law and Kokoe stand out the most, but there isn’t a song on here that I dislike.
Acid 444 - i_o
This year I got into techno really hard. There were some stand out projects of course, Acid 444 being the most recent one to hit the spot. Replicate didn’t make my top 10 list but only by a very small amount. And System Error evokes some great vibes. These songs really inspired me and I actually started working on a Bladerunner styled techno song as a result.
Dead Sea EP - Eliminate
I always think I’m not going to like the stuff Eliminate releases very much and I don’t know why. But every single time I do that he releases something that just destroys me. Not going to be making that mistake again. There’s some interesting musical elements in these songs, such as the dissonance in Stupid. There’s another particular track on this EP that I really like but you’ll read more about that one later.
Night is Short - Otira
It was a huge year for Otira / Raito. Between his 2 projects he released like 6 EPs and had features on tracks by i_o, Dog Blood, and more. But this EP of his stood out to me the most with some great rave and techno tracks. But to me the thing about this EP that stands out to me the most is the album art. It’s very easily my favorite album art for the entire year. It just draws me in so much, I can’t fully describe why but I’m in love with it.
Save Yourself EP - Virtual Riot
The best producer in dubstep is back with 8 more bangers. I never tire of listening to Virtual Riot, he just kills it every time.
Experiments in Acid Research - Glacci
Change & Decay - Blanke
Divide - Shadient
Songs of the Year
And now for my favorite songs of the year
1. Mania - Madeon
This was the song off of Good Faith that grabbed me the most. It mixes his Adventure era electrohouse sound with the Good Faith style in an absolutely incredible way. However this song was initially a little further down the list. Once I saw Good Faith Live I had to move it up, seeing this song live was such an insane experience. Madeon played an extended version of this song with some modified instrumentation and it was easily my favorite part of the show. The experience of seeing Mania live pushed it up my list to the top spot. Hugo did a wonderful job on this track and I’m so happy to be able to listen to it.
2. Dark Artifact - G Jones
Ethereal arpeggiated synth melodies and high energy trap drums with a lot of bass. What’s there not to like?
3. Caffeine - Lolo Zouai
My favorite pop song of the year. The use of foley in this song is insane. All the drums are laced with recorded sounds of soda bottles and cans being opened and I just love it. So unique, and the lyrics are so well crafted. I almost lost it the first time I realized “French Vanilla dripping in your cup” was a pun I almost lost it because there’s so much depth involved in that line it’s wild. In addition to all of these really unique elements the song is also a bop.
4. Everything - Eliminate
My favorite song off of this EP. This song is so catchy, but more than anything its drum and bass!!!!! It makes me so happy that dnb is catching on in the US. The genre is so explosive and there’s a ton of good stuff out there. I really like Eliminates take on the genre with this song, giving it an almost pop-like vibe while still making it a banger.
5. Lazer Vision - Zeke Beats, The Glitch Mob
From a technical standpoint this song is crazy. The mixing in the track stands out a lot to me, especially with the percussion. It’s also just a cool song. I’m really glad that The Glitch Mob is doing collabs with newer up and coming artists and I hope we get more songs of this quality from the project.
6. Icy - Kim Petras
This song is so catchy, it gets stuck in my head all the time. I love how the production is like bass house turned pop music, super cool style I wouldn’t have expected but I really love. And those hi hat trills, damn. She snapped.
7. Dream Fatigue - G Jones
Another G Jones track on this list but this song is just so cool. Sampling the pacman dying sound and making a trap song is such an amazing idea. And who else but Gregg to pull it off so perfectly.
8. Abberate - Shadient
What the fuck is synth design? This song makes me question my entire life because I never imagined that something could just... sound like that. I don’t know how to describe it but listening to this song for the first time had me so lost. The second drop is full of so many unique synths. I still can’t get over it. Shadient is one of the best bass music producers for sure, can’t wait for that album he’s been talking about next year. And he needs to release that song with the silent hills vibe.
9. Night Is Short - Otira
I already talked about this one a little but hard rave music never felt so good. My friend always says “this song is what people who don’t listen to dance music thinks it sounds like” and he couldn’t be more correct. Song is crazy, when the lead synth goes up an octave and the hi-hat comes in, I go crazy every time.
10. Radial - ISOxo, Knock2
RL Grime’s label Sable Valley is on a roll. With songs like Ambush , House of God, and Arcus and more stuff to come it’s just wild. This song in particular is so much fun. I especially live the dnb breakdown in the second drop. Can’t wait for more from both of these producers and from Sable Valley.
Some other great singles from this year in no particular order:
All the Time - Zara Larsson
Ambush - Cozway, Jon Casey
Overdose - SG Lewis
Drowning - Kucka
Midnight Hour - Skrillex, Boys Noize
Mumbai Power - Skrillex
Moi - Lolo Zouai
Rushing Back - Flume, Vera Blue
Me ++ You - Myrne
Let Me Take You - Whethan, Jeremih
Love Me - Felix Cartal, Lights
Ultramarine - Quiet Bison
Get Through - Rameses B
Soundboy Burnin’ - Otira
Death & Desire - Knife Party

One of my favorite experiences as a record store owner was when a new regular, Jordon, told me he wanted to get into David Bowie and asked me which album I suggested he start with. FYI: Jordon is 23 yrs old, so it’s not that surprising that he wasn’t well versed in Bowie’s music. I mean, I didn’t get deeply entrenched in it until the last decade or so, so as much as I want to judge younger people who don’t know the classics, I try not to.
I had a few Bowie reissues in stock at the time; Hunky Dory, The Rise & Fall of Ziggy Stardust & The Spiders From Mars, and Station to Station. I recommended my first Bowie album, the one who made me first fall in love with his music: Ziggy Stardust. I bought it on CD with the spending cash my mom had given me when I flew to Chicago to visit extended family one summer in middle school. I have a lot of really positive memories from freshman and sophomore year listening to it, reading the liner notes, memorizing the lyrics...
Jordon wasn’t sure. So I described each of the three albums as succinctly as I could. Hunky Dory was a little more folky, like his earlier albums, but it’s where his artistic voice really coalesced into what we would know as David Bowie from that point forward. Ziggy Stardust is simply a perfect rock n roll album. It has laid back tracks to be sure, but it’s a full departure from Bowie’s earlier folk roots. It’s also very accessible. Station to Station was a bit harder to describe. My immediate feelings about it are that it’s a little higher concept, but that doesn’t really ring true. The songs on their own are fabulous and easy to listen to, but I guess the overall feeling of the album really speaks to where he was while making it. He was coming close to the end of a period where he was doing a massive amount of drugs and deeply entrenched in occult study. In a lot of ways it’s a transitional album from the end of glam rock into the Berlin Trilogy and into the more pop/dance music he would make in the 80′s. (I often forget that Young Americans falls between Diamond Dogs & Station To Station because I see such a straight line from Diamond Dogs to Station to Station to the Berlin Trilogy. My brain always wants to slide Young Americans a few notches later in his discography.)
Jordon ended up going with Hunky Dory. He came back about two weeks later and reported LOVING the album. I did a tiny herkie jump in excitement! He asked me what he should get next. I only had the two reissues in stock now. I suggested Ziggy Stardust again naturally. I didn’t think he was ready for Station to Station after only listening to Hunky Dory. No way.
The rebellious little shit went with Station to Station. About two weeks later he was back (he came in nearly every two weeks for a while, bless him), and admitted I was probably right and although he liked it, it was probably a bit dark for him at that point. Jordon finally bought Ziggy Stardust that week.
This is when Jordon became like a brother to me. He first came into the store on the recommendation of my actual younger brother Matthew, whom he had worked with. Jordon and I became fast friends and since I saw him much more frequently than my actual brother, and TBH, a little bit to guilt Matthew for never hanging out with me, I started calling him my “new brother”.
When I bought a selection of vintage Bowie albums, which didn’t happen a lot (people are just holding on to them more since he passed away), I thought I should suggest Jordon pick up something vintage for his collection. Of the albums I had got in, I was going to suggest Space Oddity or Man Who Sold The World, but both sold super fast. What was left was an 80′s reissue of his self-titled first album (not that great imo), David Live and Images, a compilation. I didn’t think any of them were up Jordon’s alley.
Tumblr media
The same seller came in and sold me some more from his collection over the next several months and I finally got something to suggest to Jordon. I was going to recommend Aladdin Sane just because the cover is iconic and I thought he’d like to have it in his collection, especially an original 70′s copy. But again, it sold super fast. Of what was left, Diamond Dogs was the natural next choice. Plus, in my opinion, it’s a superior album to Aladdin Sane. I DM’d Jordon to let him know and he had me hold Diamond Dogs for him until the next morning. When he came in, I told him if he liked Ziggy Stardust, he would like Diamond Dogs. It’s a great glam rock album like Ziggy, but it’s a little darker, a little sleazier. He bought it immediately and later text me that it was now in the running for his favorite Bowie album. That may have made me the happiest. Diamond Dogs is currently my favorite Bowie album (along with Station to Station). And I was really excited to have helped him get some vintage Bowie as such a new collector (I sold him his very first record & turntable on his first visit nearly a year prior). I was lucky to have picked up almost all my David Bowie records at a local used bookstore around 2009/2010 for less than $10 each. Vinyl was coming back but it was still a buyer’s market back then. Really good records could still be found all over the place for good prices. And of course since 2016, it’s been nearly impossible to find any of his stuff second hand in the wild, especially his 70′s albums, in my experience at least. You could maybe find a shabby copy of Let’s Dance if you were lucky.
Coincidentally, Let’s Dance is the last album I ever sold Jordon. My store closed last month, and a few days prior, an older man dropped off a box of vintage records - a donation - including a whole bunch of Davie Bowie LPs. When I asked if he was sure for the hundredth time (there was also a lot of Rolling Stones and Prince in there too, people just don’t give that stuff away), he told me “They were my ex-wife’s. I don’t give a shit what’s in there. They’re yours.” There were probably at least 30 records in that box, and only maybe 3 of them were stinkers (easy listening/classical stuff that no one wants). Every album we pulled out was accompanied by a gasp. They were a little dirty, but cleaned up really well. All of them were in VG to VG+ condition. With the shop closure eminent, I decided to hold on to a few of the ones missing from my collection. I deserved to walk away with something I figured. I ended up keeping Low, Scary Monsters, and Lodger, along with Around The World In a Day by Prince. I was happy to keep Let’s Dance if it didn’t sell by the last day.
Jordon, the rebellious little shit that he is, came in the afternoon of our last day and bought Let’s Dance. I was happy to see it go into his collection rather than mine.
Around Christmas, Jordon text me a picture of his Secret Santa gift at work:
Tumblr media
Music is one of the best things we do as humans, and it is certainly something that is incredibly important to me and always has been. When you have such a deep attachment to music, a passion for sharing it comes naturally I believe. I’m passionate about a whole lot of things, and I can get a little over eager when I share those things with other people. I’ve become quite accustomed to people ignoring my suggestions. So when someone actually listens to something I’ve told them about, almost nothing makes me happier.
Meeting this kid and introducing him to David Bowie’s music and his coming to love it so much that it’s known around his office was definitely one of my favorite experiences from the last 15 months.

k-pop opinions
so y’all I was watching some unpopular kpop opinion videos on youtube and omg, a bitch has so much to say like they were all just so wrong, so here I am with some of my opinions (and idk how to make youtube videos so you’re just gonna have to settle for this)
disclaimer: if you disagree with any of my opinions…. I don’t care lmao
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1.      BTS vocal line is fantastic and versatile
I’m not gonna claim to be a musical expert here, but all four of the boys in the vocal line are so talented. everyone hypes rap line (and they deserve it too) but I rarely see stuff about how amazing vocal line is, and they’re so versatile (examples = Jin in Awake and Dionysus, Jimin in Lie and Serendipity, Taehyung in Stigma and DNA, and Jungkook in Boy In Luv and Begin). also, to those who say BTS can’t sing well live, here are some videos to prove that wrong
 Hold Me Tight - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hsQget6baP8 (Jimin’s high note though🤩)
Fire - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbSy36fu6Pk
Save Me - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3BN-atw8wCw
Spring Day - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMqmnhgNLXY (ft Hoseok’s beautiful vocals too)
Stigma - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwoPKn_qh8k (Tae literally ate a CD before this, idc)
Let Me Know - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PIKjNauCHzc (another Jimin high note)
Awake - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gCt0UlkMZU (my favourite Jin performance of all time)
Begin - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqUejlb0z1o (JK’s stability also needs a shoutout because damn, he could be running a marathon and his voice is still stable asf)
Euphoria - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4oRxgvoDCc (that little switch up he did in the bridge whilst flying through the air omg)
 2.      Twice’s cute concept suits them and that’s it
before I got into Kpop, I used to just see at as cringy bubblegum pop and never saw myself liking that. and then I heard Twice’s Fancy. that shit slaps and I won’t hear anything else. the girls pull off the cute concept so well, and the outfits and mv visuals are amazing like Twice is owning it. I’m not really a Twice fan but I’ve listened to some of their other title tracks and I think they’re really good, like Twice do the cute concept really well. also, Mina, Sana, Nayeon and Jihyo’s vocals during the bridge give me chills, they sound amazing)
 3.      if idols can’t sing/rap/perform well live, they shouldn’t be idols
I’m not aiming this at anyone in particular, so don’t get mad and start defending your faves in the comments, but the whole kpop culture is live performances. idols do live performances all the time, much more often than western artists, and so it is so important that they can perform live well. this includes vocal stability, volume, strength, breath control, everything.
 4.      stop putting female artists in dresses/skirts so short that we can see their shorts underneath
performing live to an audience is hard; I know, I’m a dancer, and I’ve done it (not to audiences as big as ones of k-pop artists obviously, but the point still stands). when you’re onstage, you want more than anything to feel comfortable so you can give a performance to the best of your ability and feel proud of yourself afterwards. I’m sorry, but I find it hard to believe that these female idols feel comfortable dancing in clothes that are so short and so tight. they can barely move properly, which limits the effort they can put into the choreography, making them seem lazy. I’m not saying this because I disagree with sKiMpY cLoTHiNg but I just think it’s ridiculous and must be uncomfortable for the female idols. it also limits the complexity of their choreographies, which is when you get shitty, boring and unentertaining choreographies, in comparison to some boy group choreographies. I’m sorry, but if I was following certain boy groups performances at an award show with a simple choreography like ddu-du ddu-du (no shade, I love it, it’s just simple), I’d be a little bit embarrassed lol
 5.      Blackpink have so much potential and YG just doesn’t use it
I don’t even know where to start. there isn’t a single blackpink song out there that I don’t like; their vocals and rap are good, choreography and visuals are good, everything is good. but they could be so much better. first of all, Rosé’s voice is so beautiful and unique and I don’t know why they make her sing in that stupid voice. it’s going to start damaging her voice soon enough and I don’t know why they do it. second, Jisoo’s voice is so amazing and she always has the least lines. I just think her voice is beautiful but she’s so underused in their songs. third, Lisa is such a good dancer, but the Blackpink choreographies don’t do her justice. they need to give her little solo bits in the choreos or something because her talent is just going to waste.
 6.      Blackpink are overhyped
controversial, and before y’all start, I love Blackpink like tattoo blonde Jennie in the KTL teaser on my forehead please, but it needs to be said; Blackpink don’t deserve the hype they get. this point links in with the point above because omg they literally have like 15 songs, and they’ve been around for like 3 years. they haven’t even released a full album like damn YG be clowning us, stanning a group that’s never released an album. I’m sorry, but they get so much hype, when there are other groups out there, that are so much more versatile, their choreographies are better, their songs are better, they’re just better in general. I’m not blaming the bp girls for this because we all know it’s YG’s fault. if maybe they had the chance, with better choreographies, better songs, better everything, then they would be deserving of the hype they get
 7.      STOP SENDING HATE TO BLACKPINK WHEN IT’S NOT THEIR FAULT, IT’S YG THEY’RE THE MOST HATED ON GIRL GROUP AND THEY DON’T DESERVE IT LEAVE THEM ALONE
Tumblr media
8.      NCT 127 line distribution is a joke and I don’t know why it hasn’t been spoken about more
the fact that in Regular, Taeyong and Mark both have more than 30 seconds each, and Winwin doesn’t even have a full 5 seconds is ridiculous. in Cherry Bomb, Taeyong and Mark both have more than 40 seconds and Johnny has less than 9. SM need to distribute lines between them more effectively, or cut down the members in the group (and one of them is a much better choice than the other). they’re all talented but SM only seems to recognise Taeyong and Mark and idk why tbh.
 9.      being told to stan someone will make me want to stan them even less
no shade at the group themselves, but all I see on twitter is Loona stans saying to stan Loona (it’s not just Loona but that’s the one that comes to mind). you telling me to stan them doesn’t make me want to stan them. I’m sure they’re super talented and nice people, but I now have no desire to find that out for myself.
 10.   ARMY are constantly being shit on for being a nEgATiVe fAnBaSe when the majority of ARMY are amazing, generous and kind people
obviously, every fanbase has toxic fans, that goes without saying, but for some reason, ARMY has a reputation amongst the kpop community for being toxic and negative, and I just don’t see it. every time someone who doesn’t know about BTS tweets about them, all the replies are ARMYs gently and kindly educating them, giving them links and pictures so they can learn more. they’ve donated so much money to charity and done so many charitable things under the boys names, and the ARMY community is just full of amazing wonderful people. stop shitting on us for no reason, y’all just hate us because your faves probably like them too lol
 11.   you can’t call yourself a stan of a group if you don’t like all the members
in my opinion, I don’t see how someone could call themselves an ARMY if they don’t like all of BTS, a Once if you don’t like all of Twice, a blink if you don’t like all of Blackpink, an EXO-L if you don’t like all of EXO, a NCTzen if you don’t like all of NCT, etc. imagine the members’ reactions, like I just don’t think you can be a stan if you don’t like all of them members.
 12.   FANCY IS A BOP I KNOW I’VE ALREADY SAID IT BUT I DON’T CARE, I WILL LISTEN TO IT ON REPEAT FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE, LIKE I’LL PLAY THAT BITCH AT MY WEDDING LMAO
Tumblr media
 13.   please stop putting people into groups just for their looks
like I’m sorry but how can you put someone who can’t sing/dance/rap into a kpop group, make it make sense. by doing that, it also teaches people that you can get far based on your looks and your looks only (and don’t start bringing models into this because y’all know damn well it’s not the same thing). I get the idea of a visual, sure, but if they can’t sing or rap as well, what’s the point?
 14.   STOP CALLING NAMJOON AND JIN BAD DANCERS. THEY MUST HAVE SEEN THAT SHIT ON TWITTER (AND DON’T GET ME STARTED ON THAT IHEART RADIO THING) AND HOW DO YOU THINK THAT MAKES THEM FEEL AFTER THE YEARS OF HARD WORK AND EFFORT THEY’VE PUT INTO THEIR DANCING. THE FACT IS THAT THEY CAN PROBABLY DANCE BETTER THAN MOST OF Y’ALL SO SHUT IT AND LET THE SYNCHRONISATION IN SAVE ME AT KCON TALK INSTEAD
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bija-HneHNI
 15.   Not Today’s line distribution is still a joke and I will never get over it
Jin has less than 5 seconds and JK has over a minute. I don’t think I need to say anything else because y’all should agree with me
 16.   kpop culture is so toxic and then y’all wonder why locals call us crazy
fanwars, solo stans, streaming wars, ‘maybe they should’ve stanned ___’, etc. are just some of the things that back this statement up. not just the culture with stans, but also the companies and idol lifestyle is really bad, overworking idols is one thing that bothers me, but mainly the whole weight thing. the fact that trainees literally starve themselves to fit the companies’ standards is so wrong and disgusting on so many levels. people don’t have to be stick thin to be successful like I don’t understand. it’s so unhealthy, it puts lives in danger, and it also encourages fatphobia.
Tumblr media
 17.   STREAM EPIPHANY BITCHES ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fIkZOLsnoqY )
 18.   you’re allowed to stan one member of a group, but hating on other members of that group or liking all members and hating on one is trash and you deserve no rights if you do that
that’s it from me, discuss and debate with me in the comments or drop me an ask (but don’t bother sending hate bc i’ll just ignore you lol), if this doesn’t flop I’ll do some more bc god knows I've got enough to say...…. um stream epiphany and fancy bye
