I love Ever After High more than I could probably ever say, but I’ll try in honor of its 10th anniversary.
I discovered Ever After High when I was maybe 7 or 8 years old, so I was very young, and I LOVED Disney Princess movies (kind of ironic given the history, huh?) and so I discovered the Brothers Grimm fairytales, and I adored those too. I find a series from a YouTuber I don’t remember the name of (7 Super girls? Or something?) And I think the video was “What’s your favorite show?” And the girl in the video explains what Ever After High is and that sounds AWESOME to a little kid like me. It was a high school for the children of the Brothers Grimm characters?????? AMAZING! Obviously not much was aid about the more,,grizzly details of the stories as this was a child’s doll line as well.
I started watching, and I instantly fell in love with Raven Queen when I saw what her whole deal was, also I really liked her style, as I was a little emo kid, and Raven striving to be herself in a world that didn’t accept that, that she had to just follow the rules that actively worked against her. That struck a little cord with me, and I wouldn’t realize it until many years later, but, spoiler! I’m trans. Raven is a character that, in general, means so much to me. I full person and soul mean this when I say she is my favorite fictional character of all time. Raven Queen meant so much to me, and others as well.
Ashlynn and Hunter because I ate, slept and BREATHED True Hearts Day as a kid, to see these two people that loved each other, so deeply and true that they were willing to sacrifice their stories for one another despite the danger. Society told the two of them their love was wrong, Ashlynn’s best friend even told her she thought it was wrong, and that crushed Ashlynn. She even broke up with Hunter over her fears about their stories, but also so everyone would just. Stop. The whole reason they even told ANYONE was because Duchess had threatened to essentially out them when they weren’t ready.
Then, after all of that pain, and trail and tribulation they got up, well Ashlynn did, she got up and she told the whole world that she loves Hunter, and doesn’t care what anyone, or their destines have to think. If she can’t love Hunter and be a royal? Then call her Ashlynn Ella the rebel!
Then as the years went on, I got older, and Dragon Games aired. I saw Darling Charming, a character I didn’t really care about too much until I got older, and I saw her give “CPR” to Apple White, a character I hated, and ALSO grew to love as I got older.
My personal feelings to these character didn’t matter, though. I saw these girls KISS on screen. I saw two same gender people give TRUE. LOVES. KISS. to one another for the first time ever. It wasn’t just an m/f couple with some VERY gay subtext. Seeing that kiss was more magical than anything in the show. That one moment between two characters that I grew up watching, as if to say it was okay..I won’t lie when I tell you I maybe cried that night after I finished watching it. It made me feel so happy, so seen. Safe.
As I got older, I saw these characters in different lights, and I saw more depth to them than I ever did before. Characters I hated as a kid suddenly made more sense, this horrible system of destiny looked so much more daunting and scary than it ever did before. I hated Apple as a kid, and that’s an understatement. Sorry Apple fans, I love her now, and that’s because as I aged I saw more depth in her than I did when I was younger.
Apple was also a victim of destiny, just in a different way than say Raven, or Briar. She had such high expectations put on her from her mother, her father, the WHOLE SOCIETY THEY ARE STRUCTURED AROUND. Apple also faced a traumatic experience as a kid that also just reinforced this line of thinking. She had her entire life planned, if she liked that or not, and she couldn’t escape it. Apple was faced with harsh reality so suddenly at what was supposed to be the biggest, most important day of her entire life. All of that particular planning to be the perfect princess, her entire life’s purpose for as far as she knew, was over. Torn away in an instant with the rip of a page. It would make sense that Apple would take so long to come around to the idea of choosing your own destiny, or that CHOOSING can also mean living your destined story, but maybe with some tweaks.
Apple’s whole arc in Dragon Games and Way Too Wonderland is just so good. I love her so much.
ALSO Raven never even wanted to start a whole movement or anything, she just wanted to not be like her mother, she just didn’t want to be evil. She was just 15, like literally everyone else in the show. All she wanted was to exist as herself, and it was a battle to get close to that goal.
I realized as I aged, and in general became a tad more jaded towards the world that oppressive systems don’t really help anyone. A lot of kids at Ever After High, royal or rebel, is screwed over with the destiny system in some way. It made me think about our own society in ways I haven’t before, but that’s a talk for another day.
Also, as a kid I only had access to YouTube and maybe Netflix, so I didn’t read any of the books until literally about two years ago when I could get my hands on them, so I literally just have NEW information to sift through, and grow with a world that I’ve had for so long with me already.
I think there’s so much more i can say about family issues, and family non-issues, and about culture, or the way there are rebels who want their destiny, but still side with the rebels because they think everyone should have a free choice, or how Cedar and Cerise feel just a tad trans to me, or THE WONDERLANDIANS AND RED AND BADWOLF, but that’s more general fandom posting or a bit too personal, so I’ll just leave it here.
In conclusion, Ever After High, it’s been a beautiful, spellbinding 10 years and I’m so thankful for the fans, the people that made the series/dolls/books/etc, and that I wish all of these characters, and people a Happily Ever After in their own ways.

From Scene Queens to E-Kids: How the Internet Shaped the Alternative Music Scene
The following essay is an edited version of a paper I wrote for a class in one of my college classes, which I think would really inform a lot of people about the history and evolution of the “emo” genre and style as a whole.  It was written last year, so it isn’t TOTALLY up to date, so please don’t fuss over that. I mostly focused on how developing technology and shifting political climates influenced the genre. If you’ve been on the scene for a while, I’d love to hear your take, and if I’m missing anything! I’d also love to hear about your experiences on the scene, as a burgeoning emo young adult on the scene, I am fully aware I’ve missed out on a lot… Regardless, I hope you enjoy this, or take something from it! If you feel so inclined, I’d appreciate if you shared it!
Note: all my sources will be cited at the end!
Introduction
The musical genre dubbed as “alternative” is vastly broad, encompassing the near-thousands of subgenres (and consequently, those subgenres are broken into even smaller groups). This genre includes musical styles such as rock and roll, metal, punk, grunge, and emo, all styles of music that are identified through emotionally-charged lyrics paired with musical composition that is heavier and more aggressive than the typical mainstream, upbeat pop music heard on the radio. Alternative music has continuously provided a group for those who feel like outcasts from the mainstream population, and with it comes its own culture and sense of community. This community as a whole is typically referred to as the alternative scene, or simply “the scene” for short. While the music can be traced all the way back to the 1940s with bands that sound much softer in comparison to today’s musical groups on the scene, it has evolved throughout the decades to the many subgenres that exist today.
Even more fascinating is how alternative music has evolved with time and the rise of the technology and the internet age. The alternative scene has responded to global events of yesterday and today through their music. The scene has been a place of rebellion, fast-changes, and expressing frustrations with the world. Home for angsty teens, today the scene finds itself grappling with issues of diversity, gatekeeping, social media, blurring the lines of genre, and even its own past of sexual misconduct. Since the turn of the century, the internet has shaped the alternative scene, leaving almost no trace of the early days of rock and roll. The alternative music scene has been able to survive through the internet, which has also made the scene more accepting to people of color, women, queer folk, transgender folk, and even gender non-conforming individuals as facilitated by the advances of the internet, and has raised the standard in sound quality while blending genres to evolve their sound.
Pre-Internet History
Alternative music’s beginnings are all thanks to people of color, which is ironic considering later times in the alternative scene often excluded minorities. In the 1940s, many artists of color began blending the previously existing sounds of the blues with rhythm music, thus creating rock and roll (Goldmine Staff). Artists of that time included Dinah Washington and The Ravens (Goldmine Staff). Rock and roll continued to do its own thing for quite some time, but instead of remaining the affluent genre created by many African-American artists, white people took interest in the music, began producing their own rock and roll, and unsurprisingly, received almost all of the credit in creating rock and roll music. People of color would continuously be pushed out of the alternative scene as it continued through their early years, and this is an issue that would not begin to see improvements until decades later when a new generation finally pushes for social justice. Until then, the scene was largely white-washed and often dismissed the early rock n’ roll founders, who were African-American.

It was in the 70s and 80s when rock and roll began spilling over and creating new subgenres. Nearly simultaneously in both the United States and the United Kingdom, young rock and rollers that made music in their garage began doling out gritty and unpolished tracks thick in political criticism. This new group of angry garage bands were the beginnings of punk music, and they came about in a time of an unstable and harsh political climate. In the US, President Ronald Reagan was elected into office at the beginning of the 80s, replacing a much more liberal president (McMahon). Reagan’s conservative ideologies were the opposite of those belonging to punks, and bands such as The Dead Kennedys were the loudest in their screams of disapproval (Moore 33-36). Along with the conservative leader came events such as the AIDS epidemic and racial injustices that made the world seem more unstable, and during this time of instability, punk music was the outlet. At the same time in the UK, punks like the Sex Pistols critiqued the English monarchy with songs like “God Save The Queen,” a song that mocked the British anthem:

“God save the Queen
The fascist regime
They made you a moron
A potential H bomb.” (Sex Pistols).
As with the majority of punk music at the time, the lyrics of “God Save the Queen” was unflinching in its critique of the government. The heavy instrumental that lacked a clear melody was also a trademark of punk music. Punk artists also upset the style of rock and roll, adopting skinny leather pants and spiky hair with dark eye makeup as their go-to basics (“What is Punk Music?”). The scene was primarily underground, but still existed in most major metropolitan areas. However, while punk music and shows were originally a place for those in mutual hatred for government and contemporary society to get together, its more violent nature took over (McMahon). Neo Nazi punks, also called skinheads, took over concert venues and instigated violence, most commonly against women and minorities within the scene. Police raids of shows were also increasing. It was glaringly obvious that if the violence continued, the scene would soon die out (McMahon). Then, it was the same rebellious spirit that birthed punk also birthed its own band of misfits.
In Washington DC’s hardcore scene, the same violence ran rampant as it were with other cities. It was then that Amy Pickering, who worked at a small record label called Dischord, decided that she was going to instigate change (McMahon). In 1985, Pickering began spreading notes to raise support for “Revolution Summer,” a call against violence and discrimination in the DC scene (McMahon). Quickly after the “Revolution Summer” movement caught on in DC, the same record label that Pickering worked at, Dischord, recorded Rites Of Spring’s debut album (McMahon). Contrary to their predecessors, Rites Of Spring was self-loathing instead of being loathsome of the world (McMahon). Their emotional lyrics paired with their roots in aggressive instrumentals earned them the name “emocore,” or “emo” for short (McMahon). From there on out, other underground hardcore scenes followed suit. Emocore music continued to progress underground as the technically-grunge Nirvana topped charts, even beating out Michael Jackson, which left major record labels scrambling to find their own alternative superstars and thus senselessly signing amateur musicians lacking the authenticity alternative music was known for (Moore 114-155). Inevitably, the attempts of these record labels to find their own Nirvana were futile. The alternative scene fell into a lull from the public eye, while brewing in underground urban music were new bands who were simply waiting to be discovered. The key to the success of hardcore music was soon to arrive; in the form of economic unrest, terrorist attacks, social reckonings, and most importantly, the Internet.
The Peak of Emo
At the turn of the century, the internet truly started cropping up in many middle-class households. Teenagers grappling with coming of age in a new era of technology flocked to websites like MySpace, which connected users through status updates, friends lists, and music sharing. They used the forums to express their style and emotions. MySpace became home to the iconic “emo” and “scene” styles we know today. Large bloggers that showcased the fishnets, band tees, sneakers, and brightly-dyed hair covering the eyes were popular amongst “emos” and even hosted meetups in shopping malls and public spaces. Despite these kids wearing eyeliner and skinny jeans being prevalent on the Internet, they were much less popular in the world outside of the computer screen. Being “emo” was an insult, and the public opinion was that emo music was corrupting teens, making them suicidal and homosexual (Britton, NPR, Rawstorne). Emo and alternative teens were often subject to bullying and violence from peers, the outside world, and even the media. April 2007 in Lancashire, young couple Sophie Lancaster and Robert Maltby - who were known to dress in a gothic fashion - were jumped (McMahon, S.O.P.H.I.E.). The perpetrators attacked Maltby first, but continued kicking Lancaster after she intervened and cradled her boyfriend’s head in protection (McMahon, S.O.P.H.I.E.) Robert survived the attack, but Sophie died after being on medical support for thirteen days at the age of 20 (McMahon, S.O.P.H.I.E.). In Mexico on March 7th, 2008, an angry mob formed through online forums carried out a planned attack on people who dressed “emo,” intending to kill them for “‘being privileged, as well as being gay,’”(NPR). Those who protested those attacks were subjected to violence themselves (NPR). Then in May 2008, the Daily Mail published their infamous article “Why no child is safe from the sinister cult of emo,” which warned parents that listening to alternative music and wearing dark clothing caused depression and suicide amongst their teens (Rawstorne). While the internet and social media were responsible for spreading hatred for groups of teenagers who appeared “emo,” they also facilitated the necessary means for these bullied and targeted kids to meet each other. That is why the alternative music scene was always known to be a home to those without a home; when the world rejects you, you can always find acceptance within a community on the new and exciting World Wide Web. The scene became a safe haven, but unfortunately, there was still exclusion within the scene. The style of hair, makeup, and dress that is attached to alternative music places special emphasis on pale skin - something that racist individuals within the scene used to exclude people of color who had a darker skin tone.
Traumatic events that shook the modern 21st century continued to create an unstable political, economic, and societal climate, and when people needed somewhere to turn for comfort, they looked to music that they could relate to and was unflinching in emotional outpour. The music itself came into the spotlight shortly after the September 11th terrorist attacks when Jimmy Eat World released their fourth album weeks after its initial and unsuccessful release date (McMahon). Their album dominated the charts and went platinum, and other boy bands claiming the emo style became popular, particularly with teenage girls (McMahon). Bands like Dashboard Confessional, Jimmy Eat World, and Taking Back Sunday were featured in teen magazines and their emotional music telling stories about struggling with heartbreak and depression (McMahon, Britton). When looking at the events, it seems almost obvious that this confessional style of music became popular. The world had just reeled from a major terrorist attack and suddenly the future was uncertain. People were left to grapple with life and death, political upheaval, and the possibility of war was looming over the shoulders of many Americans - specifically young men who feared being drafted. In a time of panic, people turned to the music as an outlet. My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way even admitted that witnessing the September 11th terrorist attacks led him to found one of the most renowned bands in the emocore genre (McMahon). It was in 2006 when My Chemical Romance began breaking into the emocore scene with bands Fall Out Boy and Panic! At the Disco, at first greeted with hatred, but soon praised by thousands and selling out concert venues regularly (McMahon). The genre was popular amongst teenagers on MySpace, looking for an outlet for their emotions, who were coming of age in a time of unrest between the United States and the Middle East. Add onto that the 2008 Stock Market crash leading into a crippled economy, and you get the secret to how emocore music and style skyrocketed in popularity. The singers were pouring their hearts out for a world who related to their lyrics of sadness, heartbreak, and anger about the world around them. While still not accepted by the mainstream, people everywhere found comfort in hearing music that spoke to their struggles.
“Death” of Emo
Emocore music began to fall as the decade came to a turn. In 2009, Facebook surpassed MySpace in popularity, to which MySpace never recovered and was soon forgotten. The emo scene was pronounced dead by many on March 22nd, 2013 when My Chemical Romance updated their website with the announcement of their disbandment. March 22nd would continue to be a day of mourning for all who identified as “emo” through internet memes for years to come. After that, most say that emo was done and over with, primarily because My Chemical Romance was the poster-child for emo. However, the other popular bands continued to make music and tour throughout the following years. New bands continued to gain traction within the scene as well, such as Pierce the Veil, Black Veil Brides, Falling In Reverse, and Asking Alexandria to name a few. The style still was not popular amongst the general public, especially in the Middle East, where, while experiencing unwanted Westernization, also witnessed their own teens subscribing to “emo” styles of dress and music (Fathalla, Rasheed). The people of Iraq who felt threatened by this darker style of fashion and music began forming militias which actually took action by stoning “emo” appearing teenagers to death in 2012 (Fathalla, Rasheed). According to Reuters, as many as 14 teenagers were killed within three weeks, with some estimates going as high as 80, and leaders only denounced the murdering of these teens, still stating “‘they are a plague on Muslim society, and those responsible should eliminate them through legal means,’” (Rasheed). Meanwhile, a new blogging site called Tumblr slowly began attracting troves of fanbases to its pages. As the last of the Millennials and the first Generation Z’ers began entering their teenage years, those invested in niche interests began connecting with other misfits on Tumblr, and once again, the internet connected fans of alternative music. The genre lived underground, often a key piece in the idealized “grunge aesthetic” that was popular on Tumblr (K. et. al). Grunge aesthetic was a more modern iteration of the previous internet style of emo, which kept the brightly colored hair, dark clothing, and fishnets, but added technological advancements like smartphones (K. et. al). Artists popular amongst followers of the grunge aesthetic included older alternative influences like Nirvana and Fall Out Boy, along with newer groups on the scene such as Twenty One Pilots, Melanie Martinez, The 1975, Arctic Monkeys, and many more (K. et. al). Further, content creators who fell under the “alternative” category and made content about “alternative” subjects garnered audiences who related to the creators (K. et. al). Though largely out of the public eye, the community of those who listened to alternative music congregated and mingled online.
Joining Tumblr as a social media site fostering the underground alternative community is SoundCloud. SoundCloud is a social media platform designed for small, independent artists and podcasts to upload and share their work, and was launched in 2015 (Holcombe et al.). While SoundCloud was a platform for all genres and projects, it soon became a place for young independent rappers to get their start (Holcombe et al.). Gone were the days of mixtapes, now the young rappers of the world share their music with others through the internet, and they are able to garner a following much easier than ever before (Shah). SoundCloud was at its peak in 2017, with many users and even artists who began on the platform reaching success and going on global tours (Holcombe et al.). These bigger SoundCloud artists included the likes of Lil’ Peep and his group of collaborators in GothBoiClique, Ghostmane, Suicideboys, Juice WRLD, and XXXTENTACION (Britton, Holcombe et al., McMahon, Shah). These artists began a crossover genre called “emo rap” or “sad boy rap,” that mixed influences of lyricism and emotional outpour of emocore music with the musical style of synth tones, lo-fi, and rhythmic lyrical delivery to create their own music (Holcombe et al., McMahon, Shah). The artists, like Lil’ Peep and his peers, were all born in the late 90s and even into the 2000s, meaning they grew up in the same turbulent times that many who loved emo music also came of age. They blended the influences from their favorite artists, mixing from both Kanye West and My Chemical Romance. In fact, many artists would pull sound clips from their favorite emo songs, such as Lil’ Peep, who sampled Pierce the Veil’s “Today I Saw The Whole World” at the end of his song “I Crash You Crash” (Holcombe et al.). Lil’ Peep’s  song “The Brightside” tells the story of heartbreak, similarly to the popular subject of many angsty emo bands;
“I guess she wasn't the one, right?
This isn't what love's like, that's for sure
Help me find a way to pass the time (pass the time)
Everybody tellin' me life's short, but I wanna die (I wanna die)
Help me find a way to make you mine (make you mine)
Everybody tellin' me not to, but I'm gonna try
Now I'm gettin' high again tonight” (Lil’ Peep).
This song is a perfect example of the sort of subject matter that emo rap is known to cover. Firstly, the song is obviously about a woman who is no longer in Lil’ Peep’s life, and he’s feeling heartbroken. Not only that, it also discusses suicidal ideation, another topic that emo rap does not shy away from. Finally, the last line, “[n]ow I’m getting high again tonight” adds a quick blip about drug usage, a part of the culture that emo rap had created that often romanticizes heavy drug usage. Many criticized the genre for such glamorization; however, heavy drug usage was also a key part of the rock n’ roll and hair metal scene of the 80s (Holcombe et al.). Emo rap was the subject of blame for a rise in opioid usage and drug abuse, but it is impossible to not look at this scapegoating and compare it to the previous subgenres of alternative music; emocore blamed for suicide and self harm, school shootings blamed on nu metal, and rock n’ roll taking the brunt of accusations of satan-worshipping (Holcombe et al.). Emo rap showed great potential to take the world by storm, and they were on the road to doing so when the genre met its unfortunate end. In a sad turn of events, the drug usage flaunted in the emo rap music ended up being the artists’ downfall as well. Shortly after Pitchfork named Lil’ Peep “the future of emo” in 2017, he was found dead on his tour bus of a fentanyl-overdose at the age of 21 (McMahon, Holcombe et al.). Shortly after came the deaths of Juice WRLD and XXXTENTACION, and the genre fell largely out of the public eye as fans mourned (Holcombe et al.). The other artists within the genre continue to make music, but without the trailblazers, emo rap lacks a lot of the driving force it once had. Unfortunately, the world will never be able to see where the young rappers would have taken the genre, but their influence was major. Emo rap serves as the missing link between 2000s MySpace emocore music and what is currently happening - an emo revival that has much more freedom than the emo music the world knew before.
2018 and Beyond
The alternative music scene continued on thanks to the incoming generation, Generation Z, who were the key piece in the perfect storm that kept the genre alive. Following the Millennials, Generation Z grew up in an age of rapid technological advancements and drastic change in modern society (Pandit). Generation Z’ers were born between the turn of the century and the mid 2000s, and entered a world experiencing the aftermath of the September 11th terrorist attacks - their lives were uncertain the moment they began (Pandit). Soon after the generation could walk and talk, they watched their families struggle through economic ruin after the Stock Market crash in 2008 (Pandit). Gen Z weren’t even out of elementary school when their parents showed them how to use the computer (Pandit). They watched the first African-American President of the United States enter office, a sign that equality may be possible, and they watched it on their own smartphones, too (Pandit). Then in 2016, they discussed a polarizing election-year in their social studies classes and then the events that followed when Donald Trump, a president much more conservative than the previous, entered office. To sum up Generation Z, they have seen progress in social change and technology their whole lives, so they simply do not harbor animosity towards another person’s identity. In fact, many of them spearhead their own internal bigotry and hold their peers accountable. On the flip side, Generation Z has seen many social injustices; police brutality, climate change crisis, politically polarizing events, and most recently, a global pandemic in a crippled economy. They cannot hide from any of these events; Generation Z sees the state of the world around them, and they use their technological assets to advocate for change. It is no surprise that this Generation who is entering adulthood has made such a massive impact on the alternative music scene, which has a history of bigotry despite its roots in being a community for those who have nowhere else to go.
The revival of alternative music had its soft beginning in 2016 to 2017 when Donald Trump, a notoriously conservative candidate, entered office of the United States. Previously, Barack Obama, the first African American president of the United States, had made large strides in America, and many thought the country was nearing a more liberal world. That was until the controversial 2016 election, the results of which made many people of minority groups feel threatened by a conservative president. Artists such as Green Day and Rage Against the Machine, who are big names in alternative music, did not support Donald Trump’s presidency and expressed that dislike in their music. Green Day is notorious for their hatred for Trump’s presidency after their performance at the American Music Awards when frontman Billie Joe Armstrong chanted “no Trump, no KKK, no fascist USA,” a spin on Million of Dead Cops’ lyric “no war, no KKK, no fascist USA,” from “Born to Die,” a song the band wrote after being confronted with racists at punk shows (Grow). Many artists aligned themselves on either side of the political spectrum, leading to a harsh divide in the alternative community, with the conservative side slowly beginning to dwindle and fall out of style and popularity. In 2019, soon after, the #MeToo movement truly began picking up traction, and it had the alternative music scene in a chokehold. As it turned out, the mass groups of teenage girls that flocked to alternative music were often taken advantage of by their favorite band members, and this abuse was brought to light when the #MeToo movement encouraged victims of sexual violence to come forward about their experiences (Badia-Aylin, Holcombe et al., McMahon). Some of the largest groups in alternative music came under fire; members of Simple Plan, Cage the Elephant, and quite a few former members of Panic! At the Disco (u/[deleted]). This was not just the artists coming under fire, creators of other content pertaining to alternative music such as fashion, hair, and lifestyle blogging were also exposed for sketchy behavior; such as Bryan Stars, a formerly popular interviewer who faced accusations for abusing members of his vlogging (video blog) group, My Digital Escape (Holcombe et al., u/[deleted]). Austin Jones, a Youtube creator who made covers of alternative songs not only faced accusations of soliciting nudes from minors and even statutory rape and pedophilia, but was sentenced and is now serving time in prison (Holcombe et al, u/[deleted]). The accusations were flying, and while some were debunked, many bands thus fell out of popularity. Even the iconic Vans Warped Tour, an alternative music festival that toured the United States every summer, was indefinitely canceled due to the allegations of artists who toured with Warped Tour (Holcombe et al., McMahon). It became glaringly obvious that fans of alternative music were not going to support artists who are known to have committed acts of sexual violence, nor were they going to accept a president who they saw as an oppressive danger to their rights. While it tainted many musical groups that were largely influential in the alternative music scene, the allegations cleansed the scene of those who were dangerous and took away their platform, while also making room for new artists.
At the end of the 2010s, the alternative music scene was left in shambles after the accusations tore apart many bands and fans alike. However, the fans were hopeful. A social media platform called Musically, where users would share videos synced to music, underwent a rebranding and was renamed TikTok. Slowly, the new and improved site began picking up users, and at the turn of the decade, almost all of Generation Z and a portion of older generations flocked to the platform. TikTok is known to have different “sides,” meaning there are different communities of people on TikTok that have similar interests due to the hyper-specific algorithm that continuously feeds users content similar to the content that they have positively interacted with. A sense of nostalgia for their childhood spread through the app like wildfire, and this nostalgia was especially popular amongst those who enjoyed alternative music, whether it was them who listened to the music or even their parents (Holcombe et al.). All of the buildup of nostalgia was fully released when, against all odds, My Chemical Romance announced a reunion show on October 31st, 2019 (McMahon, Riot Fest). Self-proclaimed emos everywhere rejoiced, and the show sold out almost instantaneously, with a tour announced shortly after for 2020. Fans all around the world celebrated and spread the word of what they called “the rawr-ing 20s,” a play on words of a popular slang of emocore fans in the MySpace era. On TikTok, alternative music and style was booming, with the tag “emo” hitting 4.8 billion views, and continuing to rise (Holcombe et al.). Emo music was already trending on the internet when suddenly, the COVID-19 pandemic forced everyone indoors and onto the internet during a global quarantine. The pandemic effectively put a halt to large events, killing the live shows where members of the alternative music community would gather. One would think that a lack of gatherings would break up the alternative community, but there was already an online, plugged-in community. In an article entitled “Cycles of revival: the return of pop-punk,” Genevieve Badia-Aylin quite brilliantly writes “ But it is lockdown that has been propelling the pop-punk scene forward . . . a whole new generation of bored kids is exploding into the limelight, spurred on by economic uncertainty, chronic doomscrolling, and the mind-numbing boredom of having to spend the ‘best years of your life’ inside your bedroom. What better time to hate your hometown, when you literally cannot leave it behind?” (Badia-Aylin). Millions of young teenagers immersed themselves in alternative music during the COVID-19 lockdown, bringing it back to popularity. Generation Z, who expects their media to be genuine and values advocacy for minority groups, held the artists of the alternative community accountable for their actions, continuing the work from the #MeToo movement to debunk misogyny in the alternative scene. It was the Black Lives Matter movement, which came to a climax in 2020 after George Floyd was killed by a cop who kneeled on his neck. The world itself was awash in protests against police brutality, with authorities and governments responding harshly. The social reckoning of Black Lives Matter set another standard of what behaviors were acceptable and what behaviors were not, which led to more creators being “canceled,” meaning after allegations of improper behavior, the person loses their fanbase and is expected to take responsibility for their actions. More artists and creators lost their platforms, and to replace them, the new wave of alternative music fans uplifted and supported more diverse groups. Bands such as Meet Me @ the Altar, Nova Twins, Wargasm (UK), Pinkshift, Holding Absence, and many more prominently featured people of color, women, gender non-binary individuals, and people who identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community (Holcombe et al., Raza-Sheikh). This representation of many different kinds of people has made many finally feel welcome within the community, which has a history of racism, misogyny, and many other kinds of bigotry.
The new standards for alternative music have not been accepted by everyone. There are still the usual neo-Nazi skinhead punks who spread racist rhetoric, and the alternative scene is still struggling with allegations of sexual violence and bigotry. While sites like Tumblr and TikTok have facilitated the growth and spread of a new alternative, users on sites such as 4chan and Reddit are not as welcoming, deeming that anything dubbed “emo” after the turn of the century is not what users who take pride in being music snobs consider “real emo” (Fathalla). New artists who began experimenting with the alternative style of music faced hot and cold reactions, such as Olivia Rodrigo, who is hailed by some to be a young woman breaking into pop punk, and vehemently rejected by others (Badia-Aylin, Zoladz). It is important to note that those who do not agree are slowly going out of style. Literally. They are aging and are losing control of their influence on the music industry. While the gatekeepers and music elitists in underground forums strictly enforce genre lines with a sort of insufferable pretentiousness, it is increasingly obvious that the current audience cares less about differentiating emo from punk from pop punk from punk rock from hardcore from - I’d continue but there truly is no need. Generation Z has also demanded equal representation across the board for their music, and they have much more sway than the older generations. Record labels are testing the waters with Generation Z listeners, seeing if they will bite the bait they are waving in front of their faces. Ensnaring the appreciation of Generation Z is necessary because they consume content and promote the content they enjoy - it is free advertising. It is not as easy to attain Generation Z fans than it is to attain fans of older generations. Mainstream record labels are having difficulty spoon-feeding Generation Z because they are much more adept at calling out “industry plants” (Badia-Aylin, Holcombe et al.). Industry plants are artists who a record label takes on and then gives them a makeover to fit a certain genre’s look and sound, then heavily promotes the group. Generation Z can usually see right past the makeup and fishnets, one example of such being Tramp Stamps, an industry plant that was called out for the lack of authenticity to the alternative music scene (not to mention the song they were promoting, “I’d Rather Die” was facing backlash) (Badia-Aylin, Holcombe et al.). Gatekeepers within the alternative scene may be adamantly against the new sound and look of alternative music, but the voices of support are much louder. Generation Z has revived the alternative music scene and truly made it the space that it has always described itself to be: a home for the rejected.
What’s Next?
The alternative music scene has experienced waves of popularity, which is influenced by similar circumstances each round. In the early 80s it was the Reagan Presidency which outraged left-leaning punks, followed by Revolution Summer to cleanse the punk scene of Nazis and racists which made room for the “classic” 2000s MySpace era emocore. Emocore was spread through the internet and thrived through moments of uncertainty, such as the September 11th terrorist attacks and 2008 Stock Market Crash. This is similar to the modern iteration of emo music, which flared up during the Trump Presidency and soon faced a reckoning via the #MeToo movement, which cleansed the genre of artists using their platform to take advantage of young women who appreciated their work. Alternative music was spread much faster through the internet than before, and social media sites such as Tumblr, Soundcloud, and TikTok were the facilitators of this sharing of alternative music. Now, the alternative music scene is experiencing another revolution, and this time the alternative community is demanding equal representation of all races, ethnicities, nationalities, genders, and sexualities. This revolution is playing out in real time, and the world watches as modern, more diverse bands begin to taste success. Heck, even My Chemical Romance is back with plans to go on tour! The scene is alive and well, but the mystery is where it will go next. The world should expect diversity to be the norm, along with experimentation of sounds and lyrics. Since alternative music has been known to tackle taboo subjects such as mental health, sexual assault, and bullying, it is likely that the current iteration continues this theme. One thing is for certain, the future of alternative music is just as bright as a jar of Manic Panic hair dye.

hi sithi! juniper here again, 28/10/1998. i hope your break was good! 🧿 i'd love to get in on the alleyman tarot readings, and am curious what would come through with just a general call for information, guidance or advice from the otherworlds. there's a huge amount of turbulence and grief in my life at the moment, and i am trying to balance it with an equal amount of love and joy. most of the time it seems i'm succeeding! all the same i would like to hear what the spirits or really anyone/thing else has to say. also, i think i qualify for a free reading from the alleyman deck; there's a tagged post from you in my notifs for @deerbeak saying so, but even if thats the case i will be tipping ahead of time as always :> you've never done me wrong!
Omg welcome back Juniper! You're so incredibly generous to me 😭 You can definitely ask for one of those free readings some time. But in the meantime I will make this extra detailed for you. Also i can't stand to leave your icon without a comment, I just finished the season while i was on my break, and i am o b s e s s e d with this 90s goth rockstar whiny emo man. Ahem.
There were two entities that showed up for the reading, and they wanted you to know they were there. I didn't do a full identity reading for them because they acted like you would know, but i can tell you what I knew about them privately. And if you need it, we can do a follow up reading about it.
Tumblr media
fear. strength. the lovers (alternative) (the queen of ravens)
I didn't really ask a question with this one, at least not a clear one. I just wanted the cards to give me the heart of this reading. What is this really going to be about? And to stare directly into the face of fear right off the bat, was staggering, but not surprising.
You are telling me that in spite of everything you are doing very well, and I'm proud of you for that. But I'm also... uh... if I may say that, I'm not so sure if you are really doing as well as you say. You're looking at this time as a test, a series of tribulations that will eventually prove your worth. So you are really fighting tooth and nail, trying to make it through this. I think this is very commendable. But there are two participants in this story. The first one is judge and executioner, with a whip in their one hand, and a bludgeon in the other. And they say: If you cannot make it through this, then you were not worth it anyway. And the other one, is on the wrong end of the whip, gritting their teeth, and outwardly showing a lot of courage and resilience but deep down feeling very, very scared to give up, because if they do, then the judge was right.
Needless to say... both of them are you. And the biggest problem is that you are not being to yourself what you would need the most: a friend.
Tumblr media
the star (alternative). the empty. king of swords (alternative) reversed
The first spirit had something to say about your spiritual practices. The thing is, that i'm almost completely sure that this is metaphorical, but imagine a place, from the past... This place is something that you used to do. It was full of wonder and comfort, and the reason why you used to come here was just because you wanted to dream. It was not serious at all, and essentially just an escape fantasy. You see things so differently now, you probably know a lot more, have matured as a person as much as you did spiritually, and in your absence that place has slowly emptied out. But it never ceased to exist. And you maybe deep down yearn to see that wonder one more time but you know that if you'd find nothing there and maybe you're even carrying this sense of shame about it. But the thing is that because it is so empty, that is exactly why you should revisit it again. Even if it was a little bit silly back then, that's still not a crime but now you could just remake it, except that with your current knowledge and experiences it would be so much better. You see this as a pathetic thing from your past that is not even worth thinking about when in fact this is a wonderful, unused resource.
The second spirit didn't really have a lot to say but picked these two cards when prompted:
Tumblr media
page of cups (alternative) reversed. father sleep
There is a typical, metaphorical interpretation of these cards, which I will tell you in case that is what you need to hear. And that is that you have been carrying something for a very long time as a sort of quest, like a cup of water through the desert, but unfortunately that has dried out and it is time for you to recognize this and put off this burden, maybe find yourself a new quest. But... to be honest I don't think this is what the cards are REALLY trying to say. Sometimes they are very straightforward and blatant, and it's exactly what it says on the tin.
Soooooo.... How are you doing with Ódin? You work with Norse gods at all? Been haunted by any ravens lately? Maybe you wanted to talk to him first but never made it? I find the choice of the card hilarious in the light of the just aforementioned Sandman. But unless you are expecting Mr. Sturridge to show up in a sexy coat, maybe have a chat with the old man. Apparently he's been looking for you and there might be a good reason.
I will tell you what. Spirits love to make pop culture references because it's something that people tend to think about a lot, and it's one of the easiest ways to communicate more things in fewer words. I don't know enough about your situation to tell you what the punchline of the joke is. But you either know or you should investigate. Maybe Ódin has been haunting your dreams under a disguise, or something. Treat that punchline like a thread, and start winding it up. See where it takes you.
You're going through such a hard time, with so much pain. And I totally get it. I think you just want to feel like all of this means something. But you are just grinding yourself down in the process, and I think what you really need is some kind of new objective that can replace this whole self-mangling, worth-proving ordeal. I know that this is a lot to tackle so what if we can just get you one thing. One goal. So I was desperate enough to ask the cyberpunk deck because that is what it's good at. It's a very harsh deck, but one thing it has never ever been, is unhelpful.
Tumblr media
XVIII. THE MOON
“The Moon reminds us that reality is not always what it seems at first glance. In a world of appearances and illusions, the best course is often charted by one’s own intuition. The Moon is also the card of dreams, desires, and of course, sleep – Death’s nightly ritual.”
See???? DREAM. Again! I'm telling you!!!
Tumblr media
So the harsh part of all of this is that this is not going to become lighter in the near future. Whatever has happened, I think you are going to feel the aftermath for some time. But you probably know this. And the fact that you are capable of seeing an opportunity to evolve even under such harsh circumstances, is a good thing. But you don't need to make it harder than it already is. You should think of yourself as something that is worth cultivating. Note the use of the word!! Cultivating. NOT bludgeoning!!!!!
You know, I could tell you that you need to be nicer and more mindful to yourself and I'm sure I would not be the first person to say that, and also that's probably making you feel a little annoyed, like ok, I know. Like you understand it, somewhere, but you can't do it still. The thing about being nice to yourself is that you don't NEED to believe in it for it to work, but I can exactly tell you what's not clicking. There is one thing that needs to change about the framework in your mind. You are looking at yourself that can become worthy through change. This is not incorrect except that - to stay in the metaphor of cultivation - you are very much like an empty garden, which is to say, an extremely valuable piece of land that may not be super organized or tidy at the moment but it doesn't diminish its worth. On the contrary because it's kind of like a blank state right now, through nurturing it can become literally anything, and in some sense that makes it even more valuable!
I cannot stress it enough. The potential, IS the worth. And yes, of course, you are full of worth as a person and a whole but that might be a little bit too big a task right now, to feel that. That's okay. I figure it's easier to start with something smaller.
You know, as usual, Not Mental Health Advice. Just friendly neighbourhood tarot reader advice.
I really hope this can help you some Juniper, and things will be looking up for you ;O;
I'll get you a fortune cookie for the way. "Answer just what the heart prompts to you." Very mysterious and vague. But maybe the heart will prompt you something that will get you to the next step.

TW: none. crack. fluff.
Characters: Fushiguro Megumi, Inumaki Toge.
OCs: Haruki Yumi (15), Komatsu Riko (18), Saitō Seiko (17).
"There's a spider!"
"Kill it, Toge!"
"Okaka! (No!)"
"What do you mean "no"? You're the man in here".
"Sujiko? (Since when?)", Toge threw a peace sign and posed like a pageant queen.
"Fushiguro-kyun.~ Come here and send us help", the two of his seniors shouted from inside the room after seeing a spider the size of a palm. Riko and Seiko were weaklings when it comes to the 8-legged creatures and Toge was no use either because he admitted that he's no man to be doing such task. Hence, the need for another person to save their asses and their target was Megumi who happened to walk pass by the hall.
"What's up?", the raven-haired boy approached and checked up on his seniors. All of them pointed their index fingers to the wall, showing him the monstrous creature that had been bugging them.
"Tuna!", Toge exclaimed as the other two followed suit. "Takana!" "Mentaiko!", said the two girls imitating the cursed speech user before they unconsciously annoyed the onigiri-ingredient-speaking-boy. Toge was ready to unzip his sweater to reveal his cursed speech marks but was stopped by Megumi's questionable actions.
"Go. Away. Die". Megumi said with a stern voice. He was standing a few meters back from where he was, obviously terrified by the creature as well but no one could really tell from his stoic expression. For someone who loves animals, the seniors thought he would be better at handling this but they only sighed in disappointment.
Yumi came into the room with an odd box that everyone assumed contained one of Sukuna's finger. She poked Megumi's arm before giving him a look, mouthing him a "what's wrong?" before the lad heaved a sigh, averting his gaze away from her. "There's a spider", he mumbled the words that only increased Yumi's curiosity. Yumi gave him another puzzled look before he finally cleared his throat and pointed at the wall. "Spider", he spoke with clarity only to receive a hysterical laugh from his girlfriend.
"The emo boy is scared of spiders, huh? That's rare", Yumi teased him before swiftly getting a cup to remove the spider from the room. She had known that the seniors were big babies when it came to spiders but she was not expecting her boyfriend to be in the same shoe as them. "The deed's done. Help me send this cursed object to the higher ups, Megu", she nonchalantly said after releasing the spider to its nature.
The seniors exchanged looks with each other once they heard the new nickname given to their junior. "Ooooh, Megu.~ Megu-chan!", Riko and Seiko said in a teasing manner before Toge tugged along with his infamous "Shake~" only to receive a scowl from Megumi. He released another sigh as he crossed his arms to his chest. "You guys talk as if you're not dating. Saitō senpai, you're with your boyfriend 24/7 and you, Komatsu senpai", he frowned before continuing his words, "is dating a 1000-year-old curse".
"Shut up!" Riko shouted as she threw a book towards Megumi to which he successfully avoided and landed on Seiko instead. "Ouch", Seiko muttered, she rubbed her forehead gently as her boyfriend showed her a thumbs up from the side. "Mentaiko (Deserve)", his eyes crinkled and Seiko knew he was enjoying the view of her getting hurt. "I'm having regrets dating you", she grumbled and frowned at the boy. "Shake~ (Me too~)", he replied, unfazed with Seiko's statement before rolling his eyes. "The fuck did you say? Hold my earrings, Komatsu senpai. I'm sending a white-haired boy to his demise", Seiko gritted through her teeth, pulling up her sleeves as she prepared to fight Toge and the boy mirrored her action.
"Enough!", Yumi slammed her hand against the table to get everyone's attention and she succeeded. She flicked Seiko's forehead and dragged Megumi along with her to leave the room, probably on their way to meet the higher ups. "Behave, all three of you", she scolded the seniors as she shook her head in disbelief at their childish behavior. They soon disappeared and Seiko quickly turned to face Riko, ready to pester her with another antic. "Senpai. If Sukuna were here, he would definitely eat the spider. You should summon h-" "Stop slandering my boyfriend!", Riko punched Seiko's arm as she followed Yumi and Megumi's trails, leaving the room as well.
"Damn, triple homicide", she sighed and that gave Toge an idea. He sat closer to Seiko and gave her another knock to the head.
"Takana! (Fourth!)", he giggled and ran away to exit the room.
That's how regular days pass at Tokyo Jujutsu High School when there is no curse to exorcise.

Top 5 favorite Vax moments?
i love you people, really i do
(and also my rogue boy)
(and also answering asks when i should be doing theatre homework but fuck it analysing critical role is way more interesting than analysing romeo and juliet in a language i don’t speak)
okay first off know picking just five is impossible and honestly if i were to list every scene i loved about vax we’d have like a hundred, but here’s what’s on my mind at the moment
5. “I have been here before, and I will be here again!”
i love the twins, i love their history, i love their dumb sibling fights, and i love that they have a bear they’ve grown up with that sometimes vex will set loose on her brother during said sibling fights
(but also said bear is not immune to vax)
(really the entire beach prank scene is fantastic, if you wanted to watch, part 1, part 2)
4. Defeating Thordak
first of all - what is with vax and climbing dragons. he has ranged attacks, he doesn’t have to, but like... brimscythe he killed with his usual “run up the dragon’s tail to the head and stab until they stop moving” thing. umbrasyl, he also did that (though didn’t get the killing blow). vorugal he could fly but spend most of the time hovering uncomfortably close to the dragon until he got knocked out of the sky. thordak, again, clung to his head, stabbed until the dragon stopped moving. raishan, hovered uncomfortably close to until he got knocked out of the sky.
but on a serious note about this scene, those super dramatic moments are always fun, and vax clinging to the head of the dragon that killed his mother, the entire reason he became specifically an oath of vengeance paladin, as thordak flies the two of them down into that dark hole and vex goes “vax, be careful!” over the earring, it’s just, real fuckin good
and then we have the actual scene itself and honestly it’s rare to find vax moments that are purely vax moments because he’s so defined by his relationships with other people? almost every moment i could think to list in this post specifically revolves around another person, people say he’s the brooding emo stereotype but like, he’s really not, because that archetype is so characterised by being a loner and vax’ildan “what the fuck do we have in this world except moments with each other” vessar is the complete opposite.
but this is one of those rare few. and like... thordak shaking vax off but vax catching up to him because he’s a hasted flying rogue and can move 240ft and still have two actions left, actually getting justice for his mother, whatever the fuck whisper did where it just turned into a sword for a bit, it was real good
(and then also vex catching up right after and this hug and vex’s quiet “you did it” and just aaahhhh i love)
Tumblr media
3. Again, the beard prank
already linked this in the other ask for funniest moments, but like, this scene, it’s so short but so good, it makes me laugh as much now as it did the first time i watched it and i love him so much
2. Charmed by the Briarwoods, the second time
for two reasons here. well, maybe three. first, i just love this disaster bi and The Way He Is When He Gets Charmed, like... vex asks where he is, and his response is “uh..... i’m on top of a thing... i can see very far... everybody is very attractive up here” i adore him
but i also just love how liam played vax being charmed, and like... the very subtle shifting of loyalties? like, matt tells him he can respond, just he considers the briarwoods his closest allies, over vox machina, and he plays that very well, you can see even in everyone else’s reactions to the “where are you?”, like... vax knows they probably got out of there, the briarwoods expected them to die but vax has too much confidence in his friends for that, so he’s anticipating what would be the next best thing for the briarwoods, which is not having any loose members of vox machina wandering around
but at the same time he’s also just asking because there’s some part of his brain that registers he shouldn’t be alone, his friends should be with him, why aren’t they with him? (and like, you can see he gets really confused when vex attacks)
BUT THEN ALSO delilah asks him a direct question and he lies to her?? because telling the truth would put vex in danger?? like matt makes him roll a wis check to see if he’s even capable of it, he’s still charmed, and like, outwardly he doesn’t even really understand that vex and delilah are enemies right now, he’s just like “yes we’re all friends we should all be together”, but some part of him knows that if delilah knew vex was alive, vex would get hurt, and he’s physically incapable of betraying his twin
(and also, though it didn’t work out because of the raven queen deal, i did love the brief thing we got with vax wanting to follow sarenrae and the fact that he uses her to protect them there and just aaaaaaaaaaahhhh)
1. ....am I allowed to count the entirety of episode 57? fuck it, i’m doing it
seriously i can’t pick a favourite moment here. this episode has everything.
it’s his first visit to the raven queen, which is super interesting, it’s the first time that like... vax’s genuine long standing belief in fate is acknowledged, because he barely knew before this that the raven queen held dominion over fate as well as death, keyleth didn’t really know vax was a big believer in fate and got really worried that the raven queen was filling his head with lies, but like... he brought it up first. “this was always supposed to happen, wasn’t it?”
and it’s not the first time the raven queen’s talked to him (or even him to her) but it’s the first time after he really accepts it and, it’s an interesting scene to watch
(it also parallels really interestingly with the percy scene too but that’s a post for another time)
it’s got cute twin stuff after when vax is still pretty out of it from all that (and also him falling asleep on trinket which is also very cute)
even more cute twin stuff after dinner, when he wants to talk to her about percy and they’re both just ridiculous
it’s got further grog and vax pranks (grog spilling the oil very obviously outside his door, vax rolling a 31 to notice it and just looking at it for several seconds, and then picking up as much as he can hold and using it to write immature bullshit all over grog’s door)
laura: i walk by as he’s doing this and say-
vax: d’you wanna help?
vex: you know he can’t read, right?
vax: i picked specifically small words!
percy: preschoolers run amok in my gentle abode.
vax: get busy living or get busy dying
and then, you know, if you’re in an angst mood, you get what you think is a gilmore scene (and i do also love the fact that even though they’re not together and vax would never think of cheating on keyleth, he still takes a second in front of the mirror to make sure he looks good, which is something he has never done for anyone else ever), followed by, the most shocking and effective betrayal in this entire goddamn show!
(which is another real fun scene)

my final iron raven theory before the book comes out
I was pinned to the ground, as was Ethan and Meghan. Titaina stood above us, waiting to destory us all. that evil grin forever on her face.
“Now, I’m only going to ask one more time.... where is the Forgotten king?”
Meghan looked down not answering, of course she wasn’t going to betray her son. Ethan glared at the summer queen, wrong thing to do kiddo and she noticed.
“Aww is the little human angry? You have no reason to cling to the traitor, hell, he tried to kill your wife. Where is he?”
Ethan spit in her face, “ Go to hell!” Titaina scowled and zapped him, he cried out in pain.
“Stubbronness will only get you so far emo boy, humans don’t have much resistance. Why cling to him? He’s a traitor to you! Does your wife mean nothing to you?”
Ethan laughed, laughed!  he was being tortured by the summer queen herself and hes laughing. I swear every Chase I run into is dumber then the last, he then tried to pull himself up, and then... he broke free.
“You don’t know a damn thing about me. Kerrian....is family and if i betrayed him Kenzi would kill me much faster then you ever could.”
you could see the lighting fuming in the summer queen’s eyes, “You think I can’t kill you faster then a human!” and she zapped him again but this time the lighting lasted a lot longer.
Ethan’s cries were painful to hear, so many thoughts ran through my head. he deserved it was one, Kerrian can handle himself. Theres no need to keep him hidden espcially as a human, but then.... I was sick of this, I’m sick of defending her. what has it got me? I love Oberon, I really do. But this is too much, hes just a human! When I saw Meghan handle that crying iron fey without gettin angry even when the citzen punched her.... thats how a leader handles themselves.... If only I could get up. damn it all to hell!
“Get the hell away from my husband!!” Cried out a voice.
Suddenly a human, ran straight up to Titaina and punched her dead in the face. breaking Ethan free, but not before Ethan fell to the ground panting and gasping for air. the human ran up to him and cupped his face. It was Mackenzi, how in the hell did she even get here??
“Kenzi??” Ethan gasped.
“What the hell Ethan? Why are you fighting the summer queen?”
Suddenly the sky turned dark and it started raininging and lighting, as if the sky was spelling what was about to happen. Titaina slowly rose up.
“Foolish human.... you dare hit me! The queen of summer.”
Kenzi turned towards the summer queen, “If anyone is foolish its you! How dare you attack my husband!”
Then Kenzie made mistake number two, she charged at Titaina.
“Kenzi!! No!” Ethan called out
“I’ve had enough of your bullcrap! First Kerrian and now Ethan! I’ll kill you!!”
Kenzi jumped into the air winding up a swing, she was too slow, she didn’t have a chance. Titaina just zapped her straight through her chest. Like I’ve seen her do to way too many summer knights trying to attack her.
“NOOOOOO!” Ethan cried out, he broke free. Pulled out his swords and charged next.
However, Ethan must of learned something cause he dodged Titainas lighing and stabbed straight through the summer queen’s heart. Not killing her but there was a lot of blood. Titaina fell to the ground.
“Kenzi!” Ethan cried out and rushed towards his wife’s side.
“Ethan...I’ve done it now..... I’m so sorry.... I just got so-”
“Shhh its okay youre gonna be fine. Meghan! Call one of those medics we need to get her out of here...”
Meghan looked away not moving.
I stepped up, “Ethan.... her medics only work on Iron fey... not humans.... theres....nothing anyone can do.”
Ethan looked like a puppy that go kicked with an iron boot.
“No! There has to be something! A herb! A potion! ANYTHING??”
“Ethan love.... its alright. I... always knew this was coming.”
“Kenzi.... what am I suppose to do without you?? I need you!”
“Ethan.... They always told me, I would never find anyone that I was a walking death trap. That my Lukemkia would deterre all guys away. But you never listened even when you should of. You made me feel like a queen, a loveed queen. Life was so dull till I met you, I love you Ethan.... Wherever I go, I’ll wait for you my love.”
And with that While Ethan clung to her, Kenzi passed from this life.
“Kenzi? KENZI??? No.... don’t leave me.” Ethan sobbed.
Ethen then closed her eyes and said, “Weither Jesuses throne or the 9th circle of hell. I won’t stop till I find you again Kenzi. Rest in peace my wife. I love you.”
“Isnt that cute, but arent you forgetting something..?” Titaina growled.
Everyone turned around and Titaina had healed and was ready for more.
“You’ll join her soon enough!!” She charged but thats when i lost control, I grabbed her hand and deadlocked her she cried out in pain and fell to her knees.
“P-Puck?? What are you doing?”
“This is where my loytaly ends Titaina, send this message to Oberon.... If you two keep aiding that beast.... I’ll stop you. I swear I will.”
“You.... you’ll regret this Puck!”
She telported away. We decided that was enough exictement and it was time to rest.
Ash Nxy and Kerrian found us a few hours later.
“We found out how to get to the giant beasts-”
“Bad time Pretty face.” I told Nxy, “Kenzis dead.”
Kerrian gasped.
“What killed her?” Ash asked.
“She...gave up her life for Ethan. Titaina still wants Kerrian.... Ethan refused so Kenzi saved him.”
“Where is Ethan?” Kerrian asked.
Meghan pointed to a distant long where Ethan was staring off at the sky.
Kerrian went straigh there.
“Boy!” Ash called out, “Let him cool off.”
“no. he dosen’t need to cool off. he needs a friend.” Kerrian snareld.
thats right, princling lost Annwly if anyone knows what hes going through its Kerrian. We all decided to creep up and watch.
“Hey Ethan.” Kerrian greeted.
“Leave me alone Kerrian.” Ethan mumbled and he got up and started to walk away.
Kerrian followed, “Ethan.”
“I’m fine!” Ethan yelled.
“Ethan!” Kerrian  yelled back.
“What??” Ethan roared and Kerrian threw his arms around his uncle and pressed his uncle to him,
“G-Get off me Kerrian....” Ethan sobbed.
“Let it out Ethan. I’m here for you....”
“I.... Why didn’t I let you kill her?? If i did..... If you killed Titaina.....”
“We’ll get her.” Kerrian confirmed.
Ethan then cried in his newphews arms. Kerrian held him there all night long it was sweet. We all stopped watching with a renewed detemriontion.
Oh Titaina....you have no idea what who youve just pissed off.

In the comics John Constantine has a daughter with a demon, do you think she would ever cross paths with raven or Zed in the Constantine Dad Au?
Hello,
I love the way you think! So here’s some more of the Constantine Dad AU would Maria Constantine!...
The Hells of Daughters...
John Constantine supposed he was cursed. He had to be.
He had turned into the Magic version of Bruce Fucking Wayne! But with daughters instead of sons.
It was enough to have him wanting to beat his head against a rock.
Zatanna, Raven, Zachary, Lori, Lilith, Klarion, Amy, and Traci; it was amazing he hadn’t gone in-bloody-sane! Zatanna was his forever drama queen, she would live to make, create, unleash, and revel in fucking drama; there were times he wanted to throttle her for it. Raven was his favorite; he would die before admitting it, but the demoness was his easiest child ever, she just got it. Zach was a pain in the ass, but a good lad all the same; a bit resentful of Zatanna. Lori redefined Emo/Goth cliché; it was not Raven who was his dark one, it was Lori; though she was a great kid once people got past her attitude. Lilith was his nightmare; he would actually pay lads to stay away from her; but it was hard, literally, she was like a cat in heat, it was maddening, and Zed would let Lilith push all sorts of boundaries! Klarion; who Constantine was still trying to remember adopting; happened to be a devious brat and ingenious at riling up all his sisters, and that damn cat! Amy was a princess, a darling little princess, she was fierce and sweet; she had wacked a demon with her wooden sword the other day when the house was under attack. And Traci, darling, sweet, pain in the ass Traci was going to make his hair white before she even hit puberty; he knew she’d finish him off if her sisters didn’t beat her to the task.
And though Constantine loved all his daughters; he did, he’d trade Bruce for his sons in a heartbeat if only to have a minute of peace.
Daughters were exhausting, and B had no idea how much more hazardous and troublesome the lasses were to the lads; B’s only daughter was a bloody angel. All of Constantine’s; minus Raven; were demonesses from Hell; Raven was an angel, there was irony in there.
Which brought him to today as he was all alone, minus Raven who was getting ready for a night out with Jason, Roy, Garth, and Victor Stone. It was a peaceful night too, Zed had taken the girls off to the cinema. There was a knock on the door, which had him sighing as he dropped his current spell book; he had been working on a way to track demons more reliably; Maze had offered her services to see if he could find it. Mazikeen and Lucifer were currently on their hundredth honeymoon, after having been remarried by a Wonder Woman impersonator in Vegas; again, and they had fucked the Wonder Woman impersonator. Sounded like a grand time.
“I got it!” Raven said as she came from within the House of Mystery, he followed his daughter. She was fifteen, he marveled at how quickly she was growing. “I got it dad,” she promised.
“If it’s your lad I’d like to meet him,” John promised.
“It’s not Jay, I’m going to the Manor,” she said as she grabbed her coat.
“Ah, but I still want to meet him,” he promised.
“You know Jay, and Dick,” she pointed out.
“You will not distract me because your sister is on a date,” he warned.
“Why don’t you want to meet Zee’s boyfriend?” Raven asked.
“Because the wanker is a boy toy in love with an older woman, it’ll never last. Besides, if he breaks her heart I’ll send him to hell, he knows it, so we are good.”
“And what do you think you’ll do to Jason!?” Raven sputtered.
“Nothing, lad’s not foolish enough to harm you,” Constantine mused.
“Glad you have faith in my best friend.”
“Of course dear,” he chuckled as they opened the door to the House of Mystery, it revealed a teen, about Rae’s age, blonde a brown eye and a blue eye, she had boxish features, and sharp eyes, she was lean, and rather muscular and gymnast looking.
“Can I help you?” he asked.
She shoved her blonde hair back.
“I’m here to kill you,” she stated.
“Well, if you’re here to do that, then it’d be polite to introduce yourself,” Raven snapped as she folded her arms. He smirked at his petite daughter’s attitude.
“Maria Constantine,” was the reply as her fingers lit with fire and Raven slammed the door shut, he grabbed Raven just as it was blown open.
“Bloody Hell!” he yelped as they flew over the railing and for the gears of the House of Mystery, he wrapped tightly around Raven to prevent her from being harmed. His daughter grunted from the impact, he shoved her off him and away, looking up to see two of the blonde. “I don’t know a Maria Constantine!” he snapped.
“Mother said that,” Maria said dryly as she walked down the stairs. “But I don’t care, I’m here to kill you!”
“And what relation are we?” he groaned as he rolled to his feet, he wavered, seeing Rae still dazed a bit as she lay there moaning in pain.
“I’m surprised you don’t see the immediate resemblance; Dad,” she sneered.
He looked at Raven who was up, and he looked at the demoness as she prowled forward. Raven nodded as she dropped into the shadows then.
“Who was your mum?” he asked.
“Rosacarnis, Daughter of Nergal,” she stated.
“Oh, how’s your mum?” he asked.
“Dead! Because of you!” she screeched, more fire came hurling from her fingers as he dove out the way, evading what would be a nasty burn.
“Enough!” Raven shouted, he watched the shadows come to life and he hurled a few defense spells as stray magic started flying around.
What the bloody hell!?

tread carefully, my dear : an elu alice in wonderland au
Tumblr media
In which Lucas Lallemant jumps into a rabbit hole and discovers a mysterious, new world.
a/n : please, please listen to Alice’s Theme while reading this it makes it so much better i swear
- -
“I need a moment.”
Lucas runs away from the alter, ignoring the way his mother stands up from the audience and calls after him, ignores the way Chloé looks absolutely heartbroken and tries to grab hold of something, anything to keep him standing up with her, repeating those dreaded two words.
He feels his cravat scratching against his neck, and he tugs at it, finally breathing in a gulp of air as he loosens the choking grip it had on his throat.  He runs through the maze of hedges and past the white, white roses, and runs until he can feel the hint of a smile tugging at his lips.
He’s not going back.
He keeps running, catching sight of the white rabbit’s cottontail twisting around a corner, and Lucas forces himself to run faster.  It’s the reason why he left the altar, the reason he’s refusing to say those two words, and he prays this actually means something.
The maze opens up and he sees the familiar gnarled oak in the middle of the clearing.  The rabbit’s there, tapping its foot against the base of the tree, and Lucas finally comes to a stop.
“You’re late,” it says impatiently, frantically checking a pocket watch, only to tuck it back into its vest.  And then the rabbit dives into the hole beside the tree, and Lucas lunges forward. “Wait!”
There’s no sound from the rabbit, and Lucas is left peering into a deep, dark hole.  He frowns, eyes squinting.
“Lucas?”
Lucas snaps up, eyes widening.  He hears Chloé from somewhere around the maze, hears her light footsteps and the rustle of leaves as she twists a corner.  There’s no way he’s going to marry her.
And Lucas, overcome with a bout of fear and madness, dives into the rabbit hole.
He’s immediately falling, wind blowing his hair in all directions as he tumbles and falls.  There’s a strange feeling passing all over Lucas, and he’s too terrified to even scream, his voice caught in his throat.  He’s spiraling and falling all at once.  Somehow the rabbit hole he’s falling down breaks into light, and Lucas yelps and narrowly dodges a chair that falls straight toward his face.  He widens his eyes as he watches cards flutter before him, and he dolefully notices the Queen of Hearts, and then a blue sofa collides against a grand piano, and a chorus of notes rings through Lucas’ ears.
He’s going to die, he thinks.  This is the part where he’s going to actually die.
It feels like he’s falling forever, and when he finally stops, he hits a slide and tumbles to the ground.  Lucas collapses, lying face-first on the ground.  Exhausted.
Thinking back, Lucas doesn’t know how it’s possible.  He’s just defied the laws of all physics and every single rule in science.  And all in order to grow the size of the fucking Eiffel Tower and then shrink to something smaller than his pinky finger.  Just by eating a cake and drinking something from a small vial.  Lucas will never again drink something that says, drink me.  He will never again eat something that says, eat me.
He also doesn’t know why he decided to trust a talking cat who could disappear and reappear at will, the only thing remaining a silent smile, one that stretches toothily for miles and miles.  He’s seen talking flowers that sang and tried to woo him.  Flowers with high voices that remind him far too much of Chloé, and then he thinks of the talking caterpillar that smoked smoke rings out of a pipe and talked in a low, low voice.
Lucas really just wants to go home.
When the rabbit and the Cheshire Cat take him to meet someone known as the Mad Hatter, Lucas wants to actually curl up into a ball and die.  He can’t handle all this, he can’t handle all these magical creatures and strange rules of magic.  He’s also really scared of someone actually called the Mad Hatter, considering that Lucas already thought everything he saw was completely, utterly mad.
He arrives at a clearing in the forest, and there’s a table set up surrounded by trees.  Lucas sees four people sitting at a table, and suddenly he’s standing before them, eyes blinking in confusion.
What.
He looks at what he thought were people, nodding as he sees that they’re actually animals.  But then his eyes land on the person at the head of the table, and Lucas feels his heart jump up to his throat.
The person sitting there is all sharp cheekbones and pale skin, eyes glittering as they shamelessly regard Lucas.  He’s wearing a top hat, and it’s beautifully embroidered with feathers, and there’s a slip of paper tucked into a ribbon, reading 10/6.
Lucas mildly thinks the person’s eyes are beautiful, and at the same time, he wants to keep staring because there’s something about his eyes that are so different, and Lucas wants to figure out what it is and examine it closely.
He doesn’t get to, because suddenly the teacups on the table are jumping and shaking, and the animals around him are chattering and chirping.  Lucas faintly realizes they’re singing.
The person who Lucas has been staring so longly at claps his hands and looks directly at Lucas, his lips pulled up into a smirk.  “Tea?” Lucas nods, and the teapot levitates in the air, floating toward Lucas and sharply tipping forward to pour directly into Lucas’ cup.  A little bit dribbles at the sides of the porcelain, and then the teapot is returning to the center of the table.  Lucas’ attention shifts as he watches in awe as a platter of scones and tea-cookies appears almost magically.
“I take it you’re the Mad Hatter?” Lucas asks mildly, reaching for a tea-cookie and nibbling on it, raising his eyebrows.
The person leans back, clasping his hands above his head.  He sighs, then nods, grinning.  “What gave it away?”  He leans forward again, eyes interested purely in Lucas.  “The hat?  The madness?  My —“
Lucas rolls his eyes.  “Is that even your real name?”
The Mad Hatter leans back, then stares at Lucas for a while.  “Of course not.”
“Then what’s your real name?”
“What’s yours?”
“Lucas.”
“I don’t give things away for free.”
Lucas laughs.  “Why am I not surprised?”
The Mad Hatter tilts his head, shrugging innocently.  He jumps up from his seat and onto the table, and he actually walks all the way to where Lucas is sitting.
Lucas swallows and when he looks up, the Mad Hatter is actually smiling.  Lucas thinks that he could stare at that smile forever.
“You’re sure you don’t want to tell me your name?”  Lucas tries again.
“I’m sure.”  A mischievous grin passes over his face, and he pretends to think.  “But maybe I’ll give it to you, just this once.”  He stretches out his hand, and Lucas takes it.  He doesn’t even hesitate as he’s pulled up onto the table.
“It’s Eliott,” the Hatter says, suppressing a smile.  “I’m Eliott.”
Lucas grins, and he realizes Eliott’s eyes are even more vivid up close.  They’re a mixture of baby blue and a gray that reminds Lucas of the fog that ran across the moors back at home.  And that’s what it is, Lucas thinks.  Eliott’s got purple eye-shadow at the corner of his eyes, and with the paleness of his skin, Lucas thinks Eliott’s the most beautiful person he’s seen in his entire life.
Lucas doesn’t know how long he’s been staring at Eliott, not until there’s a commotion in the trees, and the animals around the table shut up, ears perking.
Eliott raises his eyebrows at Lucas.  “Coming?”
“What?’
Eliott’s eyes flash, and soon Lucas is stumbling onto a grassy patch of meadow, the tea setting and the old forest completely disappeared.
“Where are we?” Lucas says astonished, looking up at the trees, and then at the river that trickles through the clearing.
“The real question,” Eliott begins, his voice startlingly close to Lucas’ ear, “is why you’re here in Wonderland.”  He smirks, his breath warm and fawning against Lucas’ neck.  “You’re not from around here.  What’re you doing hanging out with a bunch of animals and mad people?”
“I ran away from a wedding,” Lucas says bluntly.  “I ran away from my arranged marriage.”
Eliott swivels and turns to face Lucas.  “Sounds like a predicament.”
“Yeah,” Lucas says.  “So I followed this rabbit,”
Eliott interrupts him, leaning closer and grinning.  “The first rule of any story, is never to follow the weird stranger.”
Lucas smirks.  “It’s not a story if you don’t.”
Eliott’s eyes widen, and he cocks his head, amused.  “Interesting.  Go on.”
“So I followed the rabbit, and then it told me I was late.”  Lucas swallows.  “And then I jumped into the rabbit hole.”
Eliott starts laughing.  His eyes scrunch up, and he bends forward, and when he looks back at Lucas, Lucas thinks he could melt.  Because Eliott’s staring at him with such curiosity and such amusement and fondness, that Lucas wants to stay here with him forever.
“You call us mad,” Eliott begins, “but you’re the one who followed a weird rabbit and jumped into a portal.  I think you’re just as mad as the rest of us.”
Lucas shrugs.  “Maybe.”
“Maybe what?”
“Maybe I could stay here.”
Eliott smiles, reaching out to fluff up a bit of Lucas’ hair.  “Maybe.”  He pulls away, regarding Lucas with a thoughtful expression.  “So tell me, why’s a raven like a writing desk?”
Lucas answers immediately.  “They’re both something you would have.  You’ve got that emo, dark academia like vibe going on.”
Eliott’s eyes widen.  He laughs again, and he’s smiling that familiar sunshine smile.  “Okay, okay.  I haven’t heard that one yet.”
“What’ve you heard?”
Eliott rolls his eyes, and he straightens up, mocking a voice that sounds suspiciously like the caterpillar who smokes smoke rings with a long pipe.  “A raven has feathers and you use feathers to write, they both have the letter r, they’re not the same at all, Hatter,” he grins at Lucas, eyes sparkling.  “Boring.”
Lucas can’t help it.  He giggles, trying to hide his laughter by covering his face with his hands.
Eliott frames Lucas’ hands with his own, pulling them away.  “Don’t hide,” he whispers teasingly, “I like looking at you.”
Lucas blushes.
Eliott’s eyes twinkle, and he takes his hat from his head, revealing messy, tousled brown hair.  “Let’s play a game,” Eliott says, mischievously.  “You think of a color, and we’ll go anywhere we want.”
“What’s in it for me?” Lucas asks boldly, raising an eyebrow.  “You’ve always got some ulterior motive.  What’s mine?” Eliott grins, impressed.  “Mine is spending more time with you.  Yours is up to you.”
Lucas pretends to think.  “I think that’ll be mine, too.”
“Perfect.”
Lucas looks at Eliott’s eyes, loses himself in them once again.  “Purple,” he whispers.  “Take me somewhere purple.”
Eliott spins his hat into the air, and there’s a rumbling and flash of magic as Eliott grabs Lucas’ hand, running and jumping into the spinning hat.
They fall to the ground and Lucas stares, completely in awe.  The skies are all lavender, and talking flowers all across the meadow sing a sweet, sweet lullaby.  Their petals change color as they hit each note, and Lucas watches, wonderstruck.
“They’re mauve, and now they’re wisteria, and now they’re wine.”
Lucas stares at Eliott, finding it hard to contain the excitement thrumming at his throat.  “Blue.”
And then they’re standing beside a waterfall, the grasses blue and water foaming in little bubbles that crystalize and float into the air.
Lucas turns, looking for Eliott.  “Eliott?”
There’s a rustle, and he spins but sees no one.  “Eliott?  Where are you?”
“Here.”
Lucas turns so quickly that he nearly falls, and his eyes widen in shock as Eliott splashes him with a handful of water.
Eliott’s laughing and his eyes are crinkled and beautiful, and Lucas thinks he hasn’t been happy like this in a long, long time.  “Take me to your favorite place.”
Eliott raises an eyebrow, smirking.  “That’s not the game, love.”  He steps closer, eyes glimmering.  “The rules, I believe, were choose a color, and I’ll take you to a place.”
“Okay,” Lucas smiles, “I’m going to say silver, and now you take me to your favorite place.”
Eliott laughs.  “Tricky.”
When Lucas opens his eyes again, he sees a place that’s all white and silver.  He looks at Eliott with an unamused expression.  “Really.”
Eliott smirks.  “I make the rules, here.”
“Well, I break them.”
Eliott’s eyes darken slightly, and he tilts his head, curiosity flickering.  “You’re surprising.  I like surprising people.”
Eliott cups Lucas’ face in his hands, and Lucas only sees Eliott, only sees those beautiful, beautiful eyes.
And Eliott’s smiling, so unbelievably happy, and when he pulls away, Lucas blinks.  Eliott’s teleported them again, and now they’re standing atop a cliff, and Lucas can see everything.  He sees the waterfall off in the distance, the towering turrets of a castle in the distance, all the trees poking up from the ground.
“It’s beautiful,” Lucas breathes.
“You’re beautiful,” Eliott says instead, and Lucas realizes how close he still is to Eliott.
Eliott’s fingertips raise to trace the lines of Lucas’ face, his eyes softening.  “Want to break the rules?”
Lucas’ eyes sparkle, and he smiles.  He already knows what Eliott’s asking.
And Lucas surges forward, standing up on his tiptoes to meet Eliott’s lips.  Lucas can feel Eliott’s smile, feels Eliott pull him closer.  And Lucas is melting in every possible way.  Melting into the kiss.  Melting internally because everything’s so warm, so impossibly warm.  Melting into Eliott, because he seems to fit perfectly next to him, almost like they were made just for each other.
He feels Eliott’s tongue slide into his mouth, and Lucas kisses him harder, reaches up to run his hands through Eliott’s messy hair.
And when Eliott begrudgingly pulls away, Lucas thinks he wants to stay forever.

As i've been going through Ever After High canon, I still wonder why Maddie would be friends with Raven when it comes to her backstory relating to the Evil Queen (A.K.A., Raven's mom).
In the first book, the Evil Queen grew extremely corrupt and started taking over a LOT of Ever After's lands, with Wonderland being the most successful part. However, with only a few other Wonderlandians, Maddie escaped before the queen's evil magic got to her, followed by her being unable to go back home due to the portal to Wonderland closing for possibly forever.
With Raven, Maddie should've at least been terrified of Raven just as much as everyone else due to what Raven's mother did, but it's actually kinda interesting how, with how much Maddie regresses in her mental-age, she can see that Raven isn't like her mom at all and wants to be good instead. Which got me thinking about a personal BrOTP headcanon that hits a bit close to my personal life in a way:
Imagine Raven, a little girl who has an abusive mother and a good-hearted father who technically had a divorce, being alone, bullied, and feared by everyone who sees her because of who everyone thinks she'll turn out to be. Then, a cheerful new girl comes her way. She doesn't seem scared at all by Raven. Who she was is a matter of whether she'll be her friend or not. Regardless, Maddie starts off as weird and a bit clingy, but funny at the same time. Over the years, Raven starts to take Maddie's crazy randomness as a way to make Raven feel better whenever she needed comforting. An anti-social compared to most royals in her school would be lucky to have friends like Maddie, but Maddie stayed with her because she saw Raven as a person who was unique and special, even if she didn't know that she's related to the Evil Queen at first. Over time, even after finding out who Raven's mom is, Maddie stays with Raven because, no matter what, Raven will always be that special Evil Queen who wasn't evil at heart.
In that context, I can relate it to my personal experiences because I had depression in middle school (shocker) and a very...interesting emo friend who was a lot like Maddie personality-wise. We stayed together because she knew that I would be her Raven and she'd be my Maddie, and we stayed that way for quite awhile until I had to move away.

A reintroduction
Hey, hi, hello! So, I’ve had a bit of a boost in new followers recently, which means there’s a bunch of you who are discovering my writing for the first time!
My name is Sophie, I’m a 20-something dark fantasy writer. Many people on here will know me as the Hell Witch, because my ambition and work ethic tends to intimidate people. But most of all, it’s because I like torturing characters and making readers cry. Not that that should scare you. I look spooky, but I’m really nice...
I’ve been writing since I was 9 years old, and writing novels since I was 16. I’ve got an undergraduate degree in Victorian literature and criminal history, and a Masters in Publishing. I’ve been working in the publishing industry on and off as an editor and marketer for the past 3 years now, and have worked with big name publishers and authors. I am always here to give writing advice, so do not be afraid to hop into my ask box to send me questions about the writing and/or publishing process.
I’ve got so many novels on the go right now, it’s a bit insane, but I swear, it makes sense.... Here are my devious, devious Hell Children™:
Time, Regardless:
1980s time travel novel featuring an angry magic girl who’s gone back to save her dad with the help of a celestial agent trying to uncover the reason why her entire family’s been erased from the timeline...
I’ve been at this one since age 16, so it’s been through the ringer and back, and I’m tired of looking at it at this point.
I’ve been querying it to agents on and off for the past 3 years. I sent it over to various beta readers, publishers, editors, and agents, and all have said it needs a rewrite because my narrative structure is a mess. This is draft 6.
Currently on a bit of a hiatus because querying is a soul crushing experience, and I need time to recuperate with other projects that remind me why I love writing so much...
I swear to god, you guys, I love this novel. I DO!
Moonage Daydream:
Hey, you can find this one here!
A Raven Cycle longfic featuring the gangsey’s kids. The first 10 chapters are a big party pleaser, and then it rapidly goes downhill from there (not everyone loves grimdark as much as I do, but if that’s your cup of tea, you should read this fic, and also, we should chat!) I fully support anyone who decides to read the first 10 and peace out. If anything, it’s a really solid representation of the type of stuff I write.
I have plans to update this into an original novel set in the Canadian Rockies about haunted forests and dream states.
I have the softest of soft spots for this novel because it’s the one that launched me as a credible writeblr on here, and it’s the reason I have followers for my original work.
Haunt Your Murderers:
Set in Victorian London, a drag queen kingpin for an underground thieving ring gets caught up in a murder plot with a mad surgeon and two grave robbers. The only ones who can stop them are a crew of lady pirates and the high priestess of the underworld, who may just be pulling everyone’s strings...
A very loving homage to my favourite Victorian novels and gritty history. Here, you may just find a little bit of Frankenstein, a little bit of Dorian Gray, a lot a bit of penny dreadfuls...
I came up with the idea for this novel, sitting in a very cold lecture during a history class, and I thought to myself “what would it be like if Frank Furter from Rocky Horror was a highwayman?”
Honestly, I’m just obsessed with Sweeney Todd and wanted to write that.
I’m currently 100k in and just getting settled into the plot. (in case you wanted to get a taste for the type of writer I am.......)
I know too many things about Victorian gothics/crime. Please ask me about it!
Heaven’s Tiny Daggers:
The rise of a pop-punk girl band in the midst of a gigantic revolution between angels and demons, who are hiding in plain sight in the punk music scene.
You know that conspiracy theory about Avril Lavigne being replaced by a doppelganger? That’s the conflict of this novel.
Although this is a loving tribute to punk history, and an exploration of how the emo subgenre came to be, underneath it all, it’s just an MCR genderbender.
An exploration of how capitalist greed in the music industry is sucking the creativity and inspiration out of musicians, also what it means to create a legacy as an artist.
I just started this one! I’m about 40k in and really hitting the ground running! This’ll be my project for 2019, at least for the next few months, depending on how long it takes to finish the first couple drafts.
I know way too much about punk/emo music. Please ask me about it!!!
You can find all my WIPs under tags of the same name. If you want to be tagged in my future updates, let me know!

I got tagged by @vintagesimstress. Dzięki Ania! I haven’t done it in a while so here it goes.
Rules: answer 21 questions, then tag 21 people you want to get to know better.
Nickname: I never had one. My name is quite short so maybe that’s why?
Zodiac: Leo
Height: between 155 and 160 cm
Last thing searched: ts4cc lol
Favourite musicians: I’m too old to fangirl over singers or bands. I mostly listen to whatever’s on the radio or on my ipod playlists. I used to love rock, metal or punk but I’ve never been a part of any subculture. However, I do have a soft spot for Linking Park, Korn, Metallica, Slipknot, etc. I also love listening to classical music, good soundtracks from movies, tv shows, games and even Bollywood, and wrestling themes. And I could listen to anyone with a good English accent forever. Oh, and Lana del Ray.
If you had a time machine, would you go back in time or visit the future? Being born in the wrong era is the story of my life. I’d go back in time to see all of my favourite historical figures and then I could die happily.
Do I get asks? I used to. Now, I’m scarcely even here.
Following : 391 people
Would you rather be rich or famous? Rich. I’d love to build myself a castle and live there peacefully. Fame is not for me.
Amount of sleep: Never enough.
What I’m wearing: Everything black. Although, I’m not an emo or a goth. I just like black a lot. And I’ve got lots of black clothes left from the two mourning periods that have happened during the last couple of years. Honestly, everything in my wardrobe is either black or all kinds of blue with rare green/purple/grey colour accents.
Dream job: I don’t have one and that’s why I’m never satisfied with what I do.
Dream trip: A tour around European castles, palaces, and royal gardens.
If you were an animal. What would you be? A dog, a horse or a bird. Preferably a bird cause it’s free and independent. A raven, maybe?
What are some of your favourite books/films/shows/games/etc.?
Books: I’m a bookworm. I love to read. Actually, I mostly read biographies of my favourite historical people. Aside from that, I read historical fiction, fantasy, horrors, and thrillers. I adore Agatha Christie and American gothic, so authors like E. A. Poe, Nathaniel Hawthorne. But I also love good old Shakespeare and his tragedies as well as modern drama, Chekhov, etc. And fanfiction. Who doesn’t read it? My favourite book is Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley. Honourable mentions go to: Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky; A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R. R. Martin, A Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind and Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell.
Films: There are so many so I’ll name those I feel most nostalgic about: Gone with the Wind (1939); Ivanhoe (1952); Sleeping Beauty (1959 animated); Anne of the Thousand Days (1969); Sissi (1955); Trędowata (1976); Noce i dnie (1975); Clash of the Titans (1981); Steel Magnolias (1989); Dracula (1992); The Swan Princess (1994 animated); Braveheart (1995); Jumanji (1995); Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995); Matilda (1996); Anastasia (1997 animated); Practical Magic (1998); The Parent Trap (1998); Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998); Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (2000); Gladiator (2000);  Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001); The Fast and The Furious (2001); Troy (2004); Van Helsing (2004); Kingdom of heaven (2005); Casino Royal (2006); 300 (2006); Pan’s Labyrinth (2006); The Wolfman (2010); Sicario (2015).
Shows: I mostly watch everything historical, Game of Thrones, Legend of the Seeker or vampires and zombies. No comedies, doctors or layer dramas. For anyone interested in historical tv series, I’ll try to list them periodically: Tut (miniseries 2015)Hercules; The legendary journeys (1995-1999); Xena Warrior Princess (1995-2001); ROME (2005-2007); Starz’s Spartacus (2010-2013); BBC’s Merlin (2008-2012); Camelot (2011); The Mists of Avalon (miniseries 2001); Viklngs (2013-2020); The Last Kingdom (2015-); The Pillars of the Earth (miniseries 2010); The Lion in Winter (TV movie 2003); BBC’s Robin Hood (2006-2009); World Without End (miniseries 2012); Labyrinth (miniseries 2012); Marco Polo (2014-2016); The Hollow Crown (miniseries 2012); Medici: Masters of Florence (2016-); Da Vinci’s Demons (2013-2015);The Borgias (2011-2013); Borgia (2011-2014); The White Queen (miniseries 2012); The White Princess (miniseries 2017); The Spanish Princess (miniseries 2019); The Tudors (2007-2010); Reign (2013-2017); Muhteşem Yüzyıl aka The Magnificent Century (2011-2014); Muhtesem Yüzyıl: Kösem aka The Magnificent Centuruy: Kösem (2015-2017); Versailles (2015-2018); Black Sails (2014-2017); Outlander (2014-); The Frontier (2016-); Крепостная aka Love in Chains 2019); Poldark (2015-2019); Victoria (2016-); Ripper Street (2012-2016); Penny Dreadful (2014-2016); Dracula (2013-2014); The Crown (2016-)

Oh my god?!?! I was tagged in something? I literally float here like a dead fish with 0 zero friends to my name and then I get tagged??!?! I know this was probably just a miss tagging cause they don’t even follow me, but WHO THE HELL cares?!?! I’m gonna fucking go for it! This dead fish maybe has a friend!!!!!! <3
The person who tagged me was @pixiebootsana.
Rules: answer 20 questions and tag 20 people you want to get to know better.
1. Nicknames: Liz, Lizzy, Mamma (trying to change that to at least a more gender neutral one but lol its fine (;_;) ), Liza, and I’m also trying to get people to call me something more masculine/gender neutral so here we go!
2. Zodiac sign: Cancer
3. Height: 5′, 9 3/4″ OR 1.77165 m
4: Hogwarts House: Ok so here’s where it’s complicated:
-before Pottermore (age 13 I believe) I did an intensive personality quiz that sorted me mostly into the “Ravenclaw part” with a close runner upper being the “Slytherin part”. Idk my whole family did it and I was pissed that I wasn’t in the popular house, Gryffindor. At this point my parents were surprised that I had slytherin any where close to me.
-Then when pottermore came out, I had calmed down and started loving ravenclaw, and then I couldn't STOP getting ravenclaw on the quiz literally no matter how many times I made an entire fake ass email to get different results
-Then in high school, I had some really cool friends who were so kind and patient and would tell me off for being a jerk . These guys were slytherins, and i don’t think that they all knew each other, but they were all the same. Emo LGBT kids who would stick a metaphorical knife in you for being a homophobic jerk. They did this to me multiple times because I was, unfortunately, a homophobic jerk. And holy shit if I’m not in love with literally all of them? Anyways, this made me respect the slytherin house like mad. Cause they loved me. I know it. They listened, and they tried to help me, and if I was offensive they let me know? And honestly? I needed that so so badly. (still do ;_;)
-Then when pottermore changed again? This time I literally cannot stop getting Gryffindor. And I AM INSULTED!!! Because it doesn’t make sense! And I already fucking learned to like my weird ravenclaw side of myself!!! At this time I found that she had been tweaking numbers, and Idk pottermore is fucking awful to try and make different accounts with now. So nope! I reject that! I have never ever been a Gryffindor until now and I am not planning on ever being one!
-so I found a complete test online, from pottermore, (https://www.gotoquiz.com/pottermore_sorting_quiz_all_possible_question ) that tells you what you got and your percentages. This time (and literally every time I take it after the fact) I have gotten #1 slytherin and #2 ravenclaw. Every. fucking. time. And you know what? At this point in my life, I accepted the slytherin completely!! So there we go!! That is why I’m @50percentslytherin! Cause this blog used to be a ravenclaw themed blog, and then I changed it when I saw that I had become more slytherin over time. And also, Gryffindor has never ever ever won with this test.
5. Last thing I googled: how to spell unfortunately cause I type fast and this computer’s spelling check is incredibly dumb
6. Favorite musicians: OMAM, Billie Eilish, Hawaii Part ii (album), Future Funk (genre), Joji, Thomas Newman, Milky Chance, Queen, Genghis Khan (song), Wolves and the Ravens (song), LSD (album) etc etc.
7. Song stuck in my head: idk there are a lot, its like, flipping through the channels on a radio? Normally i have one, but since I looked up songs and shit now I have them all in my head.
8. Following: 780
9. Followers: with this blog? 12 sweet sweet babies!
10: Do you get asks? This is my first one!!
11. Amount of sleep: 12 hours
12. Lucky number: 19
13. What are you wearing? A hospital gown
14. Dream job: Maybe architecture? Comic book writer? Idkkkkkk
15: Dream trip: Japan, Seoul, Kaohsiung, England, and then maybe...
I go Nepal to viciously torment tourists who use the Sherpa people like cattle. Then maybe I’ll set up a good business there that pays well so that the Sherpa can have a good income without having to risk their lives helping spoiled rich people climb a stupid mountain. Then I’ll tell every rich asshole who complains to me about it that they are incredibly disgusting and that if they wanna climb that mountain they can do it their damn self.*
*note: this is just a fantasy, I would never assume that I am the one to solve these problems, because I am white and stupid and I don’t know anything culturally about these people, so idk, maybe I should figure out another way so I’m not talking over them or some shit like that.
*Oh! I’d also like to dismantle the sweatshops over in southeast Asia and then laugh as distraught billionaires lose all their money, while the people they were taking advantage of finally get good working conditions, a thriving wage, and good education so they can kick those motherfuckers out once and for all. That’s also a good fantasy of mine.
16: Instruments: I took about 6 years of flute lessons and I’m pretty damn good when I’ve practiced consistently
17. Languages: only English ;_;
18. Favorite Songs: Come Out and Play (Billie Eilish), Daddy Issues (The Neighborhood), Crystal Dolphin (Engelwood), Dancing in the Dark (Joji), I Love You (Billie Eilish), Wait a Minute (Willow), etc.
19. Five Random Facts:
-I used to live in Taiwan when I was 3-6
-My father is legally blind
-I have moved 16 times
-I might be trans (ftm), and I am very much into men and women
-I used to be Mormon and it destroyed me so completely that I almost killed myself because of it. Multiple times.
Bonus: I was married by 19 and had a kid 10 months later. I was literally a teen mom, except it was encouraged by my religion at the time. :(
20. Aesthetic: Small flowers, leather jackets, fast motorbikes, lace, cotton, big sweaters, gray and black with little flits of beige, knifes, big black boots, all of the gay flags, curly hair, thick eyebrows, freckles, tattoos, piercings, tights with cute little flowers or polka-dots on them, sharp jawlines, dark lipstick, enfrijoladas and fajitas, old smoky bars at night, road trips, dark eyes, soft brown skin that shines in the sunlight, lofi hip hop, fast air in my face, etc.
I’m not going to tag people cause I don’t have a lot that I interact with! And those I do see, I don’t wanna bother them because I really like them and I don’t want them to be annoyed by me lol.

D&D Classes
so i offered to give someone a quick summary of the 5e dnd PHB classes, which i then read out to my friends, who then implored me to post it on tungle dot hell
so... here we go
being a barbarian is fun. you get an ability called “rage” which means u get super pissed and things can’t hurt you as much now. and all you have to do in a fight is run around and hit things! you don’t even have to wear armour. go into battle wearing only a cute skirt, footwear and a huge axe. go nuts. work off your aggression by playing A Barbarian today!
fighters tend to be more knightly than barbarians. this is mostly because they usually wear armour. they come in all flavours from “brilliant strategist” to “dumbass mercenary”. you can do whatever with a fighter, but your main job as a fighter is being the tank of the team!
rogues are, well, rogues. the sneaky stabby bastards of the group. the rogue gets a feature called sneak attack, which lets you unload unholy amounts of bonus damage when you have the drop on your enemy! if someone so much as breathes in your direction you fall over dead because you have few hitpoints and next to no armour, but it’s fine — they can’t hit you if you’ve already cut their throats while they were still drawing their swords. >:3c
monks are weird. like, imagine a dude, but his fists are lethal weapons. we’re thinking more bruce lee than medieval augustinian church man here. sometimes they’re really good at punching. sometimes they’re ninjas. you can go full naruto here if your heart desires! monks rule. they’re pretty squishy, but like, it’s worth it for the ability to hit someone three times in six seconds, yes?
rangers! picture aragorn from the lord of the rings. but like, maybe a bit more legolas. you probably have a bow. maybe even an animal companion. you can’t get lost in the forest, unlike the other dumbasses in your party, who are all fucking useless at surviving in the wild, in your opinion. you can attack a bit, heal a bit, cast a bit – and you get a free pass to play an introverted character.
PALADINS! :D my favourite class. don’t tell anyone, but yes, i have a favourite. and yes, it’s the paladin. you get the goodies of a fighter (high hitpoint maximum, heavy armour, any weapon you desire). and then also a god! your god is a little like your employer. or maybe even an annoying manager. or maybe your god doesnt talk to you at all and you’re just doing your best. fact is, because you believe in something really hard, you can do magic! it doesn’t have to be good. evil paladins are totally a thing. and you get healing skills! there’s nothing sexier than a group tank who doesn’t need a healer because they can heal their own damn self in the middle of battle. hell yeah.
bards? weirder than monks. bards can insult you so hard you take psychic damage. a bard can yell at a goblin “your mom suck me good & hard thru my jorts” and maybe the goblin will just straight up die. who let them have magical power? i don’t fucking know. but fuck, dude, they have it, and now there’s no stopping these weirdly charismatic drama club kids.
warlocks. you have a contract. a deal. a curse. a sugar daddy. basically, a demon, fiend, fey, eldritch monster or other powerful whatever went “hey you, i’ll give you some magical powers. blast plasma from your hands and mind control people or some shit.” and maybe you owe them your soul now, or have to follow orders, or something. but it’s really not that bad a deal... right?
clerics, here we go: you’re super magic. it’s because a god likes you. or you like a god? religion gives you magical abilities. clerics come in all flavours from “i will die if you so much as look at me mean” to “i am tankier than the barbarian, get fucked” but if your party’s cleric dies... you’re fucked.
druids. druids are the smelly forest dude who smokes weed and has leaves in his hair at all times. druids don’t know what sugar spoons are. they just wanna talk to plants and, like, chill, man. you usually get a druid in your party either because the druid’s like “this sounds fun” or because someone’s been fucking with the forest and they’re pissed. did i mention they can turn into animals? because that’s a thing. hell yeah.
wizards are nerds. all of them. they’re all nerds. they study books real hard until they can do magic! it takes training and studying and more studying and finally your robe clad, fire throwing wizard is ready to go on an adve— oh no. he tripped. and fell. and the fall damage killed him. because wizards have the structural integrity of a damp saltine cracker. i was a wizard once and i got knocked unconscious by a bunch of ravens. bring a barbarian, to protect your little wizard. please.
sorcerers are like wizards... but better. they make fun of wizards. they bully the wizards. because what a wizard has to study for ages, a sorcerer can just... do. just like that. did someone in their family fuck a dragon? did someone in their lineage get dunked in the astral plane for a while? is their soul just kind of spectacularly magical for no reason you can guess at? whatever the source, they have an innate ability to Do Magic. it’s pretty cool. if only most of them weren’t dumbass drama queens, or massive emos.
