Y'all wanted the Pokemon Au y'all getting the Pokemon au, explanations for the Pokemon and more Au info under the cut. Feel free to put questions about the Au in my Ask box
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Au is focused on Pirate captains being Pokemon trainers and their crew their Pokemon, with exceptions like non pirate characters who have Pokemon based on their personalitys.
The world is a mix out of the op world and Pokemon universe, so instead of canon Pokemon regions the regions are based of the op islands, as an example, Luffy is from the Goa Region and travels to other Regions like the Alabasta region or Wano region, in order to beat the strongest trainers in each place he visits in order to become world champion.
Luffys team
Zoro as Chine-Pao: Zoro is often associated with tigers (big cats) and obviously his swords. Luffy also meets him for the first time while he is tied up, wich can parallel how you optain a Chien-Pao wich is locked away
Nami as Liepard: Luffy would meet Nami as a Purloin, wich are known for tricking and stealing from people, her title is also “Cat burgler”
Usopp as Inteleon: Luffy would meet Usopp as a Wobble, since he's such a coward at the start of the series. He would evolve into Drizzile during Water 7 and latter into Inteleon. Inteleon was kind of a no brainer since it's the only sniper Pokemon.
Sanji as Cinderac: Cinderace's Signature move is a Flame kick of sorts. Luffy would meet him as a Raboot, and evolves intomCinderace during Enies Lobby. (British opla sanji…)
Chopper as Sawsbuck: Reindeer, Cheery blossoms.
Robin as Runerigus: Robin is an archaeologists who specifies in finding all of the poneglyphs so her Pokemon being made out off rune tablets makes a lot of sense. Plus the ghost typing can be a hint to her title of “Devil child”
Franky as Blastoise: Franky is basically a weapon himself so making him the literal Tank turtle makes sense to me, also remember the Squirtle with the sunglasses? yeah.
Brook as Houndstone: There aren't a lot of skeleton Pokemon so there was little choice. Houndstones is part of the Ghost gym leaders team, who is a Musician.
Jinbei as Empoleon: Jinbei used to be one of the seven warlords of the sea and is a very honorable person wich works with the personality of Empoleons. He's also shown using a Trident as a weapon.
Kobys team
Milotic: Both of them start of as ugly little loser boys but have one hell of a glow up /affectionate + Milotic would be a great swimming buddy.
Lycanroc: (dog boy koby is so real to me) Dog Pokemon, though more commonly Arcanine, are used as police Pokemon, most likely given to him by Garp.
Gallade: The Fighting type fits Kobys swinging hand approach well and the Psychic type his Observation haki plus being quite the noble Pokemon.
Togekiss: A flying type to reference his Moonwalk ability and generally seeming like a Pokemon would put the effort into raising.
Lucario: dog.. Again, Another Pokemon I feel like Koby would put the effort into raising, fighting type, and the Aura gimmick just matches the vibe as well yk.
Blissey: A healer Pokemon that would assist both hurt trainers and Pokemon, god knows it's good to have one on you when you travel with Luffy.

I wanted to draw Archie with fins so the only reasonable solution was to redesign all the rr leaders (and Volo for Dio) I know a lot of people have made designs for them but i wanted to so...
Read more for info about them all:
Giovanni: Obviously the Leader Leader of Rainbow Rocket. He succeeded in taking over Sylph Co. and ruining everything with Team Rocket, so now he's just kinda rich and annoying. Nothing really crazy with him other than that... he's got a lot of money, he's got a lot of power and he's mean enough to flaunt it. He's trying to use the wormholes in Alola to further his own reach.
Maxie: Used Groudon to try to expand the land and in the process killed basically everything... there are a few people and pokemon just barely surviving around I'm sure but for the most part everything is pretty desolate. Plus holding the Red Orb for long enough fucked him over and now he's just kinda partly fused with Groudon. On the bright side he deals with the heat really well and doesn't get dehydrated so he's perfect for the fucked up world he made. He likes that it's warm in Alola but he's not a huge fan of the water...
Archie: Like Maxie, he used Kyogre to expand the Oceans and also killed basically everything, except water Pokemon. The Blue Orb fused him with Kyogre and now he has gills and can breath under water, but in the opposite way of Maxie he gets dehydrated quick and needs a lot of water. Sometimes he just up and leaves from the rr mansion so he can go swimming, since he's more comfortable in the water. Everyone else just waits for him to show back up instead of trying to find him.
Cyrus: Used the Red Chain to force Dialga and Palkia to help him create a new world, as well as Giratina. Protip: Don't force God's kids to do stuff, you will start bleeding from your eyes. The wings are because I like them, there's six of them and each set is based on a legendary of the Creation Trio. He's still the same person. He doesn't talk to the others much and spends a lot of time in his own room doing his own things.
Ghetsis: He succeeded in getting everyone to release their pokemon, leaving him with almost complete control over Unova and further. He's a lot like Giovanni, where he's just kind of a pretentious ass and he likes to rub his power in everyone's face. He got rid of his one arm because I don't think he'd keep an arm that barely works around for much longer if he could help it. He also has a sort of Reshiram/Zekrom motif throughout his outfit since he has acquired both of them. He bothers Giovanni a lot, since he's determined to use him to further his own plans...
Lysandre: Used the Ultimate Weapon and Yveltal to kill everyone... However killing everyone on the planet takes a lot of energy to accomplish and royally fucked him up. Like AZ he got a whole lot taller but it also burnt most of his body, blinded him and kinda ruined a big chunk of his critical thinking. He's a borderline scp creature that's fueled by blood lust. He's useful for keeping anyone from bothering RR but the Leaders try to keep their distance from him for the sake of themselves. He does go through moments of clarity where he's mostly himself but sometimes he also just tries to kill anything that's near him.
Volo: He isn't an RR member obviously but I made him a design for Dio! I just wanted to give him a new outfit. I highly doubt he's super happy with the new world he's created seeing as it doesn't really change much even if he is basically God now. He's still kinda miserable and lonely. I'm sure he regrets it but it's not like he can go back on it and even if he could he's got a facade to keep up.
Lusamine isn't here mostly because I already really like her Mother Beast design so maybe I'll just draw it at some point...

Ong Snorlax ACTUALLY making a proper post for their agents??? Unreal
Meet the chirren!! Infodumps about them under cut (there is A LOT):
Azure (Captain 3)
21
She/they
Bi
Main: Inkbrush
Before becoming Agent 3 and eventually the leader of the NSS she lived in a rural suburb on the outskirts of Inkopolis with her parents and two older brothers. Upon deciding to move to the city to pursue her interests in an education and ink battles, she was not ready for city life at all. It took her a good while to adjust, with the Squid Sisters helping her do so after they met. Though she still has school and work outside of the NSS she's extremely committed to the group; despite this she was still hesitant to be leader when Cuttlefish offered, insisting she wasn't a good leader (and she still isn't). However, her determination to do well for the group has worked out for both her and everyone else.
Azure's personality is best described as wild, yet very relaxed. She gets excited easily but is very go-with-the-flow most of the time. Despite this she's reclusive, and isn't comfortable talking with new people; though she's very talkative with her close friends and family. Besides the Squid Sisters (who are basically her older sisters) she's closest with Mist, having been dating for roughly 5 years now.
Random facts:
She's an artist/illustrator
She let Mist move in with her after the events of Octo Expansion, and now they're inseparable (oh my god they were roommates)
Her tentacles are dyed! that's why they're Like That
Her right eye sometimes changes colors to how it looked while she was "hijacked" by Tartar. It's uncontrollable, and is tied to Azure's hormone levels; meaning, it usually happens when she experiences some strong emotions or is exercising.
Certified epic gamer (loves Pokemon)
[Fun fact, Azure used to be my sona and is one of my oldest ocs! She used to share my name before I eventually decided to make her her own character.]
Koa (Agent 4)
23
He/Him
Cishet (in a good way tho i prommy)
Main: Dapple dualies
Koa's a bit of a wild case. His family moved to Inkopolis from another country just before he was born, but he still shares the accents they all have. Being raised alongside 4 rowdy boys and an equally rowdy single dad (who's another oc I have), he's VERY loud and very, very energetic. he gets wound up very easily and will start yelling over the smallest things. Prior to meeting the NSS he didn't smile a lot and would actively try not to due to the environment he was raised in; as a kid he'd get teased by his brothers and dad if he got overly excited about things. Though they were only playing with him he didn't take it that way when he was young, and it stayed with him. No need to fear!-The NSS has helped him open up immensely.
Random facts:
Doesn't do much outside of the NSS besides go to school, but he does have several hobbies.
Plays the drums. Mist's little sister plays the guitar, and they hang out frequently and jam together.
Does gymnastics
Will not wear a shirt ever, he will fight you over it
Speaking of fighting, he wrestled with his brothers growing up and it's now something he likes to do for fun.
He doesn't play video games much but does enjoy a good fighting game.
Loves rock music
Didn't know who the Squid Sisters were prior to the NSS since his screentime had been limited heavily growing up. He also just doesn't like to watch TV or use social media much.
Now, however, he's "secretly" the biggest SS fan out of anyone in the group.
Mist (Agent 8)
21
She/her
Lesbian
Main: Undercover Brella
[I'm still working on revising Mist's lore, so take her backstory with a grain of salt.]
Ah, yes, the tragic backstory character. Mist and her little sister, Jett, lived a rather okay life as Octarians-well, as good as it gets being underground, anyway. Mist was raised to be an engineer and Jett a construction worker for stages and weapons. Around the events of Splatoon 1 Mist's mother contracted a disease and wasn't able to survive it. Making matters worse was the death of her father a few months later, from broken heart syndrome. Mist was left to raise her sister as well as deal with the very obvious emotional trauma the deaths left on both her and Jett. Not long after that was Mist affected by the Calamari Inkantation, leaving her to question Octarian society and how it ran. Eventually she left for Inkopolis, seeking a better life; thus, Octo Expansion occurs. However, the memories of her parent's passing and leaving her sister wouldn't resurface until much, much later.
Mist learned Inkling shockingly quick and is now fully fluent, aside from the occasional grammar error. As mentioned earlier, she lived with Azure after Octo Expansion and fell in love, and now the two hate to be apart during the events of Splatoon 3.
She’s easily the kindest out of the entire group and a strong optimist, sometimes to the point where it’s annoying. Mist believes everyone deserves kindness and she loves to help others in any way she can. Despite this, when people push her boundaries she’ll fight back in the most reserved, collective way possible. She doesn’t give bullshit and she won’t take any, either.
Random facts:
Violinist
She doesn't like working with machinery anymore, but she works for Sheldon repairing weapons to help pay rent and groceries. it's helping her cope, fortunately!
Mist speaks exclusively in positive connotation-meaning that rather than saying something like "This is bad," she would say "This is not good." She always uses positive words, not negative ones.
Surprisingly spiritual. Really interested in a variety of religions and learning about them
Meditates a lot! Her and Azure's apartment almost always smells like incense
Undeniably the most skilled agent when it comes to combat.
Sting (New Agent 3)
19
They/xey/drip/drips
Demisexual, Genderqueer
(subject to change) Main: Krak-On Roller
Drip was raised by salmonids after a mix-up between the Octarians and Salmonids occured and an infant octoling ended up with them. Fortunately, salmonids are very intelligent (much to the disbelief of many), and raised drip close to inkling society so drip could get a taste of where drip’s supposed to live. After growing up and deciding to live in Splatsvill, drip took on the profession of a graffiti artist to help make the city look more vibrant, sometimes illegally (but that's part of the fun for drip).
Xey're feral. Quite literally. Being raised by violence-loving salmonids will do that to you. Xey're far from uncivilized, though , so xey're feral in the classiest way possible. It's not uncommon to see xem doing something "weird" in the most calm and collected manner possible (like eating Alterna snow, eating grass, casually carrying things in xeir mouth). Xey’re also a fashionista and cares a lot about staying fresh and on top of things, but enjoys having fun when the time calls for it. Xey’re more serious than the other agents, but xey're learning to take it slow, thanks to them.
They have an unnatural love for ink battles compared to the other agents as well. They can get insanely heated during battles and they care a lot about their rank. They won't admit it, but it's because they were taught to love battle, being essentially a kid to salmonids.
Random facts:
Because salmonids honor dying, they love getting splatted in ink battles. It's a rush for them.
Visits their salmonid guardians frequently! They had a shack above water where they raised them. They haven't died in battle yet and Sting teases them about it
Sting's full name is The Stinging Rain Shower Born in Octopia.
Banned from Grizzco. Drip tried to steal power eggs and golden eggs from the place and was very, very quickly banned. Drip would boycott it even if drip wasn't, though.
Sees Lil' buddy as xeir sibling, and secretly hopes xey won't have to say goodbye someday when xey find its home.
Made a small, functional gas mask for Lil' Buddy while they graffiti!
Saving up money to get a prosthetic arm, but Sheldon is also researching and working to make one for drip.
LOVES grunge and whatever genre salmonid music is

Can you tell me any care tips you have to help a Agressive Hydreigon get used to Domestic living. Hyde(named for his occasional flipping between docile and angry behavior) has been with me for 4 years, he was originally the pokemon of a particularly horrible hunter who drugged his pokemon to make them stronger as well as dull down their behavior, making them basically obedient puppets, he was raised to be aggressive to take down wild pokemon quickly and with out mercy.
The hunter tried hunting down a Rayquaza, which was mega evolution capable(recent studied show that only certain Rayquaza are capable of mega evolving at all, likely descendents of family groups that were exposed by the Kalosian Ultimate Weapon's blast when it entered the upper atmosphere. I was able to help the Rayquaza by using my dad Keystone to help it mega evolve. It left afterwards, and we apprehended the hunter, but Hyde's pokeball broke, and the rush of the battle had flushed the drugs out of his system, and he started rampaging, my Sylveon, Varian, and Audino, Varia, were able to apprehend him and I quickly caught him in a ultra ball, which I later swapped him into a Friend ball at the pokemon center.
Due to the species natural alignment with aggressive behavior because of human pressure in the past, as well as being under pressure in general(being the hunting pokemon of that hunter), its been a long process to be able to even pet his snout, much less show give him an affectionate pet under the jaw. The fact I have a few fairy types, doesn't help him because of his instincts basically screaming at him 'fight, danger, predators, fight, Danger, danger, run, fight'. I know that Hydreigon are receptive to music, especially emotionally inspiring music, so I've built his Den, yes, i built him a fully dedicated den in the backyard with concrete and rubar, with speakers inside to softly play a soundtrack of emotionally inspiring songs, primarily songs like Under Pressure, True Kinda Love, and even the Trainer Anthem. I know he likes them cause when hes in his more docile moods I can hear him humming and purring the melody of the songs.
The doctors at the pokemon center think he might have some condition, I forget the name, but its basically, blind and irrational anger that'll set him into a tantrum, anger even he won't understand, one of the more cynical ones immediately said he should be taken from me and put down, some thing I near immediately attacked him for even saying. His colleagues were not happy with him. I also have a Slowking that I've placed into a Therapy pokemon teaching Program, Hyde had a Slowking Therapist before, but he's recently been getting less and less receptive at times, his aggression rising randomly out of nowhere and nearly attacking Her(the slowking therapist). So I figured having a familiar face also help would work, plus my Slowking, Orion, is an experienced battler unlike the original therapist, and can stop Hyde from going on a rampage when he loses control with Hypnosis and Psychic, and Baton Passing Calm Mind boosts.
Hyde isn't one of my battlers. He's been placed on some meds for the sake of the Dissociative anger condition he has. And he's been starting to just try to avoid people and other pokemon in general, something I see as some form of process, cause he clearly doesn't want anyone near him if he goes into another Irrational Blind rage.
There have been only one instance I've battled with him, when that Hunter came back for revenge. I was nearly wiped off the face of the earth by not one, not two, but THREE HYPER BEAMS, all with the Delivery Factor(i have a post under my (#sean's expanded pokefacts) tag) turned off, then Hyde comes flying in, and takes the hit, not only saving my life, but putting him on the literal line between life and death, he had so much of his scales and skin burned off, I could see HIS RIBS, its a miracle he didn't get completely incinerated, much less didn't keel over then and there. But he just stood up, looked back at me, and turned towards the Hunter and his pokemon, and roared. It felt like the very world was roaring out in defiance, to protect. I cried so much through out the battle, Hyde wouldn't back down no matter how much I begged him, he just kept fighting, he listened to every battle order I had except to return, he even Used the move Return, and OHKO the Mega Tyranitar(i have no clue how this fucker got a Mega Wave bracelet, that knockoff Keystone that basically mind controls pokemon it mega evolves) with it.
He won the entire battle, and when we got him to the pokemon center, he was taken into Intensive care for two weeks, and somehow, despite everyone thinking he'd be dead on night one, he survived for two weeks and made a miraculous recovery. This was three months ago, and I've only just recently been able to pet him on the snout.
Anything you can recommend I do? I've been thinking of trying to do music myself, like that Ryuki guy in Alola.
(-note, the Cynical guy that said Hyde should be killed, tried to kill him while he was in Intensive care, full on tried to Murder Hyde with fucking poison, while he was practically half dead, after saving my God damn life. When he was caught, thankfully before he could do anything, I may have attacked him, utterly shattered his jaw and shoulder. He was also Fired and completely humiliated, he'll never be a doctor again. I also didn't get in trouble for attacking him, I did get a Warning from Officer Jenny, but even she was smiling at what I did to that ass)
Wow that's, a lot.
Well first off is try to keep the fairy types away, good job in getting him his own space and giving him something he really enjoys, that being music. It seems as if he's bonded to you rather well if he was willing to take that massive of a hit for you.
Now I hate to say it but you might not ever get on the same level of, well affection as me and my hydreigons, you said yourself they're wired to more aggressive tendencies, all dragons are tbf, hydreigons just get a worse rep because dark type. And especially with Hyde it sounds like with his past he might never want affection like you're used to. The closest you might ever get is touching his snout. He's a dragon, and dragons, especially dragons that have been hurt like he has, might never trust again.
Now, personally I'd take him to a dragon specialist, if you can find a hydreigon specialist I'd take him there @ask-professor-dracaena is a good resource and very good at handling very aggressive mons. I'm good with the normal day to day stuff but if there's hormone issues or the fact that there is some residual damage from the drugs he was on for victini knows how long. They'd be able to help.

What in the god damn hell is he talking about
Okay okay. Okay. So Lysandre is so obsessed with beauty that he’s willing to destroy the world except for a few people he deems worthy to... make a more beautiful world? idk I feel like destroying the world would make it pretty ugly but.  okay man
Worth noting his dialogue differs slightly depending on the version you’re playing. In Y he basically just wants to kill everyone to wipe out the perceived ugliness in the world. In X he wants beauty to be everlasting and so he wants to grant immortality... to a few people the rest are still gonna be killed. This is to reflect the respective box legendaries of each game, Yveltal represents death and Xerneas represents life but. Okay you know how it’s sort of obvious that Sapphire was written first, and then Ruby was adapted from it? I feel like Y was written first here and then X was adapted from it. Lysandre doesn’t make a lot of sense either way but his motivations and actions seem especially muddied and incomprehensible in X.
There’s also this business with AZ and the ultimate weapon and the war 3000 years ago, where AZ originally used what is now called the ultimate weapon to bring back his dead Pokemon, but also killed a lot of Pokemon to achieve that and to win the war, so the Pokemon he loved so much ended up running away from him. This is kind of an interesting story and ties in well with Yveltal and Xerneas, and I guess it kind of ties in to Lysandre? Like, he’s willing to sacrifice a lot of people to save... not even a specific thing more like a nebulous concept of a beautiful, unspoiled world
But where is this ugliness that Lysandre is talking about? It’s not in the environment, Kalos is beautiful. Lysandre says a lot of stuff about how people lie and cheat and steal to get what they want, but the only people we really see doing that are his grunts. So what the fuck is he talking about lmao. I think all of this would work a lot better if Lysandre had even a little bit of a point. If we saw something ugly in Kalos as we were going through it. Ruined lands covered up by the illusion of beauty, people who aren’t Lysandre’s own grunts acting monstrously. I won’t say their aren’t hints of these ideas. The guy who owns Parfum Palace was a jerk, there’s a shop in Lumiose city that won’t even let you shop there if you’re not stylish enough. But it’s not enough to prove Lysandre’s point or suggest he even has one. We needed more.
We also could have used more Diantha. The conversation she has with Lysandre early on in the game is hilarious. He’s all “don’t you want to be young and beautiful forever and always play that part forever?” and she’s like “what a strange question” lmao girl. you have no idea. But like. Okay so Champions never really play an important role in the story except for like, Leon though that’s kind of different, and like maybe Blue if you really want to stretch. But like, Champions like Steven and Cynthia did at least serve as helpful guides to the player and challenge the villains on their ideas even if they refused to challenge them to battle for some reason. Diantha could have done that! They set her up for that with that first conversation! Lysandre is obsessed with beauty, Diantha is an actress as well as a Champion, she is famous for being beautiful, but she doesn’t value it the way Lysandre does. She knows beauty isn’t all that matters. She’s not afraid of losing her beauty to age (not that aging = ugly but that is what Lysandre implies... yikes but he’s the villain so), she doesn’t want to be young forever or play that one role of Beautiful Girl forever, she wants to do and be more than that. But then she doesn’t really do anything for the rest of the game, she doesn’t show up to try to stop Lysandre or anything. Maybe we could have expanded on her throughout the game, she could have been a foil to Lysandre. He’s obsessed with beauty, and people are obsessed with Diantha’s beauty, and she doesn’t care. She can appreciate beauty but she knows it’s not all there is. Idk. There’s something there!
Someone else can fix this one tho I’m not touching it lmao

Uh random headcanons for Flowey Undertale Baldr KH and Volo Pokemon!
Oooh some good ones 👁️👄👁️
Flowey (gonna go w some post pacifist headcanons mostly I think)
It takes him a really long time before he feels like he can be open with anyone, but he's working on it. It's always far easier to lash out rather than to process anything he's been through, but he'll get there.
He has genuine respect for papyrus and is one of the few people who understand his brand of humour and sarcasm. Part of his distaste for sans stems from thinking he babies him too much.
Even if other characters eventually learn that he used to be Asriel, he's very firm in the fact that he doesn't want to be referred to with that name again. He's feels so far divorced from who he used to be that he basically considers it his deadname and everyone respects that. Once he starts to learn how to live with himself that hasn't changed, but he sees it as a fresh start with a new name and another chance to try to make it up to everyone.
Flowey and Suzy (assuming she's Susie's undertale counterpart) get along like a house on fire. They like yelling and swearing and giggling about violence together. Frisk has their work cut out with these two.
Flowey really wants to imitate Chara's creepy faces so, so badly.
Anything he does to scare people is 100% projection, he just thinks of things he knew HE used to be scared of (or still is!)
Baldr
Despite his own insecurities with his darkness, Baldr tried his absolute hardest to stay positive and fight for his friends. He was completely genuine in saying he wanted to become a master to protect those he loved, but he was failed by the system so much that it just wasn't enough.
Him and Hodor tried to pretend to have the perfect sibling dynamic, but deep down they both felt how flawed it was. He knew he'd never have her light, and she knew he'd be taken by the darkness eventually. In the end, it sort of became a self fulfilling prophecy.
He's definitely a descendant of ephemer. Extremely distantly mind, but he'd end up on that side of the missing link blood feud for sure.
Riku is absolutely either part of the same bloodline as him or his reincarnation lol
He KNOWS the irony of his name, and he thinks it fucking sucks
Him and Xehanort were great friends before everything kicked off, probably him and Vör too. It's part of why he saved them for last (vör was admittedly more luck that he appreciated, and eraqus lasted so long bc he wanted xehanort to have to watch the boy he liked die lol)
The darkness that took over him wasn't capital D darkness. It was his own plaguing him - all his darkest thoughts and most negative emotions rather than any kind of outside entity. Probably still some kinda Evil Magic sprinkled in there and influence from the general force of darkness, but no direct possession. He probably could've been saved if he wasn't abandoned in a room alone for over a goddamn week.
Before All That, his friends always tease him about being a total weenie. Scary stories freak him out and Hodor makes sure he had a night light so he doesn't get too scared after Bragi whips out some of his spookiest tales. He feels faint at the sight of blood.
Whenever they go anywhere chilly, he's the most likely to be unaffected. His jacket is nice and toasty :]
He's... Not great at magic, and tends to avoid it. He especially sucks at healing magic.
Volo
He sees his pokemon as tools, but unlike some of the other villains his mentality towards them is 'Pokemon are weapons, but weapons must be maintained and taken care of'. He looks after his pokemon diligently and showers them with affection - it's much better in the long run.
All of his pokemon absolutely LOVE him. This also applies to Giratina, there's no way the big silly dragon doesn't adore this man.
All his pokemon have the serious nature in canon and I choose to believe it's specifically because he fed them those mints for modifying natures. No silliness in HIS battalion!
Cogita is DEFINITELY his aunt imo.
I see a lot of people hc that he'd hate Cynthia and everything she stands for, but I think he'd be extremely proud of her. The reason he's Like That is implied to be bc he's had a rough time w life, and I think he'd be delighted to see how much fear and respect Cynthia emanates and just how much power she holds over Sinnoh - and that she doesn't NEED to remake the world to live a good life. AND she's met arceus! His bloodline succeeded in everything he truly wanted in life and I think he'd be satisfied with that.
Volo is immortal and keeps an eye on things from a distance. After leaving hisui, he takes some time to reflect and educates his descendants on his mistakes so this never happens again. He's probably gone after Enamorus, Xerneas AND Celebi before for the sake of his lifespan. The reason Giratina sometimes hangs around with Cynthia is bc he asked them to watch over her.
Alternately: Cynthia is his reincarnation rather than his descendant, explaining why there's seemingly two Cynthia ancestors instead of one. Big fan of this one.
Different alternative: Volo is immortal and also trans. She's actually just Cynthia. Since she calmed down and stopped trying to remake the world, Cogita has been helping her cover her tracks for years so nobody realises she's not aged.
With either of the last two, Arceus appearing to Cynthia in hgss is a really big fucking deal. Cynthia's proven herself worthy of their respect and trust.

For the BNHA Pokémon AU and the dynamic between Izuku and Katsuki, you could make Izuku similar to Wally from Emerald: he has some health condition that would impede him from going on a journey (or at least make it harder), yet he still wants to be a Pokémon Master, so the others look down on him for chasing an unrealistic dream. Granted, you could argue that makes everyone else worse for basically bullying a sick child, but then again I've seen a lot of stories that treat being Quirkless as an in-universe disability, so it still kinda tracks.
As for the Todoroki, how about this scenario: Enji is the Fire-type Gym Leader, while Rei specializes in Ice-type (maybe a coordinator?). No Quirk marriage, it's a normal opposites attract romance, but Enji would like one of their children to take his mantle someday, so he has expectations for them: except he ends up with Fuyumi and Natsuo preferring Ice Pokémon to Fire, and while Toya is more receptive, he ends up in an accident like in Canon, and just like in Canon Shoto ends up having to shoulder his father's aspirations. If Shoto also has to struggle with having to use Fire Pokémon because of his father, while having an affinity for Ice-type from his mother, it's pretty similar to the Canon conflict. Not sure about the scar, it might end up being a minor accident during training...
So for Izuku:
I mean. God bullying the disabled is just canon.
I don't think that would entirely work though. Because like. For one thing I'd be straight up disabling him in some way. But also. Part of my whole thing with Izuku is that he was entirely capable, but it was others' biases that made them think he wasn't.
And you can tell this is bias because there are so many characters who are 'basically Quirkless' but are still seen as viable potential Heroes. Ojiro's only advantage is a tail. Hagakure's invisibility helps, but she's not strong or durable. Momo creates items and could be replaced with someone who just brings weapons in the first place. And this goes for Pro Heroes too! Aizawa's Quirk only negates Emitter Quirks and some aspects of Transformation/Mutation types depending on their exact nature. So all his badassery comes from 'basically Qurikless training'. Miruko, I love her, but her Quirk is not the basis for her battle ability outside of some enhanced senses. (Argue the powerful legs all you want, everyone in this show jumps around like a goddamn rabbit).
So yeah. Izuku does not have an 'Ability', but he doesn't quite have a 'Disability.
Changing it from just 'Quirkless' to a more real-world disability would be a more genuine and concrete concern of something that could limit him and/or cause him danger. And while a disability could be managed and accommodated, it is still something solid for why he would have a genuinely difficult time and might be incredibly limited in what he does.
And like. I could still roll with that, but it does change the story from a story about just biases to a story about overcoming a disability.
Re: the Todoroki's though.
I think I could technically roll with that? But it'd still be. Very weird? Hm. Because like. Endeavor would have kept training Toya up until his 'death'. Though maybe Toya is upset to find that it seems like Endeavor didn't care about that because Shoto was still there as a backup so he gets very 'well time for murder!'.
This does make Endeavor a bit more chill(ironically) in that he was just like 'Hm okay Fuyumi and Natsuo want ice types? Okay won't force them'.
There's also the fact that since it's Pokemon, instead of the kids being on the receiving end of the abuse it'd be the Pokemon themselves. Which still sucks but would have a different dynamic.
I actually can roll with Shoto's burn being a genuine accident. Without Quirks, the Humans aren't fireproof so.....
..........................
Ya know what maybe I should just embrace the wholesomeness of Pokemon and have everyone's lives be a lot better and make them all better people. Idk man maybe having a bunch of furry companions helps you work out your issues easier.
fuck it no Quirks but everyone's goddamn chill?

Homie, if you have your basic premise for your Chosen AU, I would love to read it!!
I will take crumbs and suck it up like an overpriced vacuum(/lh, /hj)
thank u!!!!!!! oooh so i dont have much in the ways of plot figured out, but the main focus is definitely the galar kids because they’re my favorites ksjdksj.
i have something of a magic/weapons system figured out at least- something between a magical girl anime and the infernal arms in hades. in terms of that, for some reason im thinking of it from like a video game moveset perspective
the chosens (they’re technically gonna be called paladins in my au but eh i dont wanna figure that all out rn) all have weapons that correspond to their choosers and their own traits. special moves/status effects usually copy the powers of the chooser, and then the type of weapon itself will have more to do with the chosen.
then of course its not just weapons, the chosens also get some powers on their own and little physical changes. e.g.: hop (zacian’s chosen) gets sharp teeth and grows super tall, serena (xerneas) makes plants grow where she steps and has antlers, calem’s (yveltal) blood is poisonous and , barry (palkia) can put things and himself in his own pocket dimension, etc.
AND THEN HERES WHERE I HAD MY LITTLE STROKE OF GENIUS i made the chosen weapons work like infernal arms, where each chosen wielder of the chooser’s weapon has their own Aspect of it that can be channeled by other chosens via a waking phrase. these phrases know no bounds from time or space, and chosens from the future can be channeled by chosens from the past and vice versa. They can activate each other’s aspects in order to speak with each other.
my main examples that i have all figured out are Hop and Gloria channeling the original kings. they hold a very confused conversation and then they tell their tips for using each other’s aspect, as well as giving each other their best life advice
and (pre-game) Volo channeling (post-pla) Dawn’s aspect: they get into a screaming match and are of little help to each other. however, Dawn yells “FUCK YOU IM COMING TO STOP YOU MYSELF” and then her past self appears in hisui the next week. its all very trippy for Volo and giratina won’t stop laughing at him.
also some of the legendaries can disguise themselves as things other than their True Forms when they need to (i.e.: common pokemon or humans) Though Zacian, Zamazenta, and the Galarian Birds do mostly speak Old English and Professor Magnolia has to translate. She’s ecstatic her fluency finally gets to come in handy, though. Calyrex is the only one who can speak perfect english, but a drawback is that he can’t take any form other than slight variations of his True one (floating rabbit/rabbit riding a honse)
I also think the Kalos legends mostly speak in Old French as well, and there are a lot of calls to AZ to translate for them
And also the ultra recon squad members are all chosens of Ultra Beasts, but the ultra beasts don’t have as much power or sway over anything so they kind of just supply reasonably strong powerups to the company-issued weapons + companionship from a cool pokemon
aaaand thats all i can think of rn! if i come up with more/figure out the plot beyond what’s just swimming around my head rn, i’ll post it- knowing me it’ll probably be concept art or a joke comic teehee

Rough Draft Head Canons of the Egos (Battlewise)
You know, I haven't actually done this at all before. But... You know what? Why not? I'm weird so why not have some basic information about how I think of the Egos in my own head.
Yes, be aware that these are my personal headcanons of the egos. What I see and how I see them... at least battle wise because I spent too much time playing JRPGs, reading fanfics of fantasy battles. I mostly blame Tales of Symphonia for this. (I do not blame it at all, I love that game and I will die on this hill for it) SO~ Here's my version of the Egos! Enjoy their weird rough idea, I've had since they were first all established as Egos.
Anti - His knife and his own body as a weapon since he can manipulate parts of his body to be bladed or blunt based weapons. Blades are just his favorite. He prefers mid-range/close range combat. He'll even change parts of his body to be a bear trap for crunching, uses shadows and light based abilities to give him more movement and control of an area, definitely has the fastest reflex time.
His knife, has a built in accessory that allows him to deal 'psychic' damage in linking him to their fears and darkest thoughts to empower himself as well drain them to heal himself. He also has the ability to shift forms to be any other Ego temporarily.
Chase - Long range/mid-range combat style based, very little in close combat but will punch and kick a fool if he needs to, though not his strongest suit. He uses guns, preferring smaller, fast-fire types for better accuracy. He's the bullet hell, uses a special accessory created by JJ to use to change his shoes into skates at any time on any surface, incredible balance to pull this off.
JJ : close range only. Canesword. His pocketwatch can only affect an area of 30 feet with JJ in the center and only for a short duration but he can send blasts of time energy at his enemy to attack and even pull at his enemy's timestream and slice at it… both can only deal damage in the future. Think of it as the effects of Future Sight from Pokemon. It works like that.
He prefers to not fight at all as he cannot control who's timestream he damages if there's too many combatants on the field. Instead, he tinkers and creates devices to help the other egos in their fight… even Anti when he's puppeted to do so. Henrik - Mid-range combat only; bo staff. His staff was built by JJ to allow him to channel his own energy into healing light to heal the Egos when needed as well as use hard light to stab a bitch. He's very adept in using it, combined with his medical knowledge, will strike at pressure points to cause as much pain without damage to incapacitate opponents as well as add toxins to further enhance his ability to bring down enemies.
Marvin - All range. The magic man, has sigils all over his clothing, hidden in plain sight to add to his defenses and uses cards to attack physically and block attacks, uses magic for the big hurts and definitely one to not be taken lightly. This is why Anti uses both light as a counter point to Marvin. But even so, Marvin can capture with enchantments to contain and seal. But they do take time to wind up
Jackie - Close range. Anti's biggest threat in physical terms with super powers. A lot of his gadgets are of his own design and built by him and JJ. Most of them are traps or anything to even the odds against Anti's faster speed and evasive abilities but he and Marvin are powerful combo for Anti to contend with but they can be overcome when Anti uses their own abilities against them.
Both Marvin and Jackie are weak to each other's powers.
Yeah, I spent too much time on it. It's a lot more refined than this but I haven't written it down before so... this is just the rough idea of them on text! I might write some bios for them... not entirely sure since there's not a whole lot of info on many to really make them pop in my head. But yeah, my version of the egos are all battle capable to fight Anti with some decent success on their own, solo against him. But better off working together... even then Anti is still powerhouse and dangerous.

self-indulgent TF2 infodump <3
OK so I’m gonna start off with: this is all stuff involving Rookie + a fun TF2 AU I’m doing, it’s not like a canon lore infodump!
Rookie Stuff
alrighty! So last night I finished a proper ref for Rookie, complete with scars n’ everythin’ (yippee!!) and today I’m gonna work on his mimic outfits for each class!! prolly won’t get em all done today but even one or two is a good start for once hehe. I’ve got ideas for a lot of em but I’m better at coming up with stuff as I’m drawing it tbh :P
I!! don’t know!! if I’ve talked about how Rookie’s class works so!! here is an explanation:
BASICALLY the Rookie is the “Ultimate Backup”, he’s WAY more useful in lore TF2 as opposed to game TF2. in the game he’d either be OP or completely useless, broken either way lmao. HOWEVER I HAVE STILL INDULGED MYSELF IN MAKING HIM GAME STATS, VOICELINES, WEAPONS, ETC cuz that’s fun af and I’m tryna make him somewhat useable lmaoo.
ok ok, so Rookie’s class basically mimics the other classes (wait wait, hear me out, please-). he can mimic whichever class is needed, in lore there’s only one of each yk? so with Rookie, any merc can effectively be in two places at once. however Rookie is like a slightly nerfed version of whatever class he mimics, he’s got way less experience than all of them but is a very fast learner. in-game, Rookie would be able to swap his skillset without having to die but it’d have a 20sec cooldown (30 when carrying intelligence) and when mimicking, he has a similar loadout to the class he’s mimicking. HOWEVER he can only customise his base loadout (so just Rookie, not mimicking a class) and his mimic loadouts are fixed, he pretty much has lesser versions of each class’ stock weapons. he also doesn’t get rid of his melee weapon when mimicking and pretty much gains 2 melee options (unless mimicking Heavy, he doesn’t pick up an extra melee then). some mimics come with speed changes, most don’t. Also Rookie’s stock weapons are kinda crap!! but that’s cuz if you’re playing him, why would you not mimic?? then there is no point in playing him!! also his outfit changes to reflect the class he’s mimicking so he’s not a total wild card, the opponent can tell what his skillset is when against him!
ok that was more than I intended to write, maybe I’ll make a post in future more abt Rookie if people are actually interested lmao
Pokemon AU!!
ALRIGHT!!! So I’m making a silly pokemon AU where all the mercs are gym leaders with the exception of Medic who is the pokemon professor and Rookie who is just a guy!! going on his pokerman journey!! Saxton Hale is the pokemon champion and the elite four is the Administrator, Miss Pauling, Maggie and Zhanna. Gray Mann is the “bad guy” and has a whole army of robot pokemon, he feels like it’s his right to be the champion and so plans to take over!! all his pokemon are like robot versions of the gym leader’s strongest pokemon!
oh also Medic has an albino pidove called Archimedes and Sniper has a hoothoot called Sir Hootsalot (naturally). Also all of them have 1 mega besides Medic cuz I love megas and also they’re meant to be a challenge to overcome!! they’re gym leaders and the champion league!! of course they have megas!!
Gym Leader Types + Teams:
Sniper (flying): Pidgeot (mega), Noctowl, Skarmory
Scout (electric): Manectric (mega), Jolteon, Eelektross
Soldier (fighting): Lucario (mega), Conkeldurr, Machamp
Spy (dark): Sableye (mega). Bisharp, Honchkrow
Demo (ghost): Banette (mega), Aegislash, Dusknoir
Pyro (fire): Charizard (mega Y), Heatmor, Arcanine
Engie (steel): Metagross (mega), Bronzong, Excadrill
Heavy (rock): Tyranitar (mega), Gigalith, Golem
Pokemon League Types + Teams:
Saxton Hale (champion): Aggron (mega), Golurk, Pangoro, Drapion, Krookodile, Darmanitian
Administrator (dragon): Garchomp (mega), Hydreigon, Noivern, Haxorus
Miss Pauling (fairy): Mawile (mega), Granbull, Togekiss, Clefable
Maggie (grass): Venusaur (mega), Whimsicott, Breloom, Tangrowth
Zhanna (ice): Abomasnow (mega), Beartic, Mammoswine, Walrein
and then ofc, Rookie has a silly team: Zorua, Meowth, Gengar + Smeargle. he starts off with a Zorua who was his childhood friend and eventually collects the others. all of his team have moves that reflect Rookie’s class in the TF2 universe. Zorua not only can transform but has the move copycat, Meowth has the move assist, Gengar has the move metronome and Smeargle has sketch (which is permanent change but at some point he does sketch the move mimic hehe >:)). and at some point Rookie aquires both a keystone and gengarite so he can mega his gengar yippee!!
final note, Rookie develops a crush on Sniper when he gets absolutely ruined on his first attempt to beat him in a gym battle. Sniper then develops a crush on Rookie when Rookie returns a while later after more training and wins the gym battle :]

Regardless of how the levels scale, the opponent's Pokémon will never dip below the minimum. level") indicates the base level curve, or the lowest level the trainer's Pokémon will go. Random trainers will adjust to your lowest leveled Pokémon, but if your highest level Pokémon is too over-leveled, random trainers will also adjust to your highest leveled Pokémon. Gym leaders and boss trainers will adjust to your highest level Pokémon. Note about trainer levels: Assuming you're ahead of the base level curve, trainers and wild bosses levels will change depending on the levels of your Pokémon.New Game +: once you complete the game for the first time, you can start a new save with several things carried over from your previous playthrough.įour difficulty modes (Casual, Difficult, Expert, Insane) Over 75 missions to complete ( Missions Masterlist) The Villainous Team is "The Shadows," a more violent version of Team Rocket.īattle engine and TM system similar to Gen 8 ( TM Locations) The Gameplay is similar to FireRed with a custom made region with several different towns with different types of land such as Tundra and Deserts. It’s up to you to stop them and save the Borrius region from ultimate destruction. However, many years later, an organization known simply as “The Shadows” seems bent on releasing the dark force once again. With the war over, the dark force was sealed away never to be used again. The people of the Borrius region summoned a dark force to help them defeat their enemies however the war ended in defeat when the king of the Kalos region unleashed the ultimate weapon. Many years ago the Borrius region fought a brutal war with the Kalos region. Welcome to the Borrius Region, a region rich in history. Hoopa Unbound is important to the plot and the mascot Pokemon (hoopa). It is set in fanfictional region called the Borrius Region and has a complex plot. It is a GBA Rom Hack of Fire Red with Pokemon from Generations I to VII, and Gen VIII game mechanics. Glacial Augment will correctly be replaced by First Strike on all champions that do not have any compatible form of CC (Nidalee, why.Pokemon Unbound is a fan-made Rom Hack made by Skeli, Pokemon Unbound is filled with many features like difficulty settings, A new mission system, Max raids, and more.Fixed a bug where Anathema's Chains cooldown did not properly scale with item ability haste.Lethal Tempo will now correctly proc against enemy champion clones.Kog'Maw's Passive - Icathian Surprise will no longer proc his own Immortal Shieldbow active.Mundo's Passive - Goes Where He Pleases, Malzahar's Passive - Void Shift, and Morgana's E - Black Shield) Certain crowd control immunity effects will no longer be consumed by blast cones triggered by allies (Dr.Fixed a bug where Rengar's empowered Q - Savage Strike attacks against towers would not grant him bonus attack speed.Spirit Visage will now correctly amplify healing from Omnivamp.Sion will no longer be able to knock back Rift Herald using E - Roar of the Slayer.Kled's R - Chaaaaaaaarge!!! will no longer cause him to visually desync from the enemy's perspective (fiiiiiiiinally!!!).Shyvana's Dragon Form Q - Twin Bite will correctly strike twice against Inhibitors and Nexus.SHYVANA QOL: Shyvana's Q - Twin Bite now grants a small attack range increase, similar to like other basic attack resets (like Nasus' Q - Siphoning Strike).TOOLTIP CLEANUP: Several tooltips have been updated for consistency, clarity, and correctness!.If this change works as expected, we'll evaluate shipping it to the rest of the world with plans to re-evaluate before Season Start. Up until now these players could duo and reliably get into Apex Tier games, which isn't fair when the people they're playing against can't duo. That said, decayed Apex Tier players and the highest skilled Diamond I players may also be impacted by this change. The goal of this is to prevent climbing smurfs from being able to duo queue into Apex tier. With this change, we’re tightening up the Apex Tier restriction to apply to MMR as well. Having a premade duo is a slight advantage, and while current Apex Tier players aren’t able to duo with anyone, the system only works off current rank.
#Nups patcher wont start Patch
In patch 12.10, we'll be testing a change to duo queue around Apex Tiers for KR and NA regions only. You can now block players in the Friend Request popup. The Challenger recall animation has also been updated! If you're eligible for both, the Challenger recall VFX will take precedence over the Honor recall. Players who are Honor Level 3 or above AND have been honored by two or more premade teammates in their last game.Players who are Honor Level 3 or above AND have been honored by one or more non-premade teammate in their last game.(Re)calling all honorable players! Can we have some moments with Toji and his lil baby before getting killed?
platonic! dad! toji and scarlet witch! baby fushiguro! reader
jujutsu kaisen x reader
masterlist of the series
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
warning(s): sad with a dash of fluff
this prompt(?) err, headcanon, will basically be the moments you had with your real father before he died and left you to gojo, and take note that you forgot all of it. :(
Tumblr media
you were his third and last chance. toji felt ashamed and guilty for having thoughts about selling you, so he was going to raise you right. well, at least try to.
the moment his baby started showing 'cursed energy', toji thought about solding you to the zenin clan, seeing as how immense and exceptional it is at a terribly young age, but then he realized he had already done that to his other kid.
victims of toji would be extremely confused to see a baby being held with his free arm. let's face it, he would bring you along with to his work, even if it is life risking.
toji finds it difficult to trust strangers, knowing the fact that you are carrying his name, or at least his late wife's name.
people could use you against him, his own baby.
unless it is too life threatening to bring you, toji would just leave you home and finish his work faster, just so he can be with you.
toji had no trouble taking care of you for the most part, since you were well-behaved and you listened to him. but that went sideways when you began exhibit this odd cursed energy of yours.
at first, he thought you didn't have one, thinking you were just like him.
and that's when he remembered your mother's words, "our child is special. she is not like you, or even me at all."
it was as if her words were foreshadowing your powers and bloodline.
you liked popping out of nowhere in the most random places and disappear, toji would panic, desperately finding you. "[name]? where did you go?!" baby fushiguro has been causing (almost) heart attacks since toji was alive.
nearly ends up having a heart attack when you teleport into his arms, giggling and clapping, after disappearing for two hours straight. "..where did you come from?"
you also have the tendency to float and fly in the air while be surrounding by your so-called cursed energy or chaos magic. toji would chase after you, trying to get you down as you think he's playing a game of chase or tag with you.
toji would also climb trees and literally the house when you end up at the very top of the roof.
toji is definitely way worse than gojo when it comes to spoiling and disciplining you. he lets you have anything you want.
he'll buy you mochi, order you souffle pancakes for breakfast and chocolate covered strawberries for breakfast. he can't cook so just orders you good food.
he also let's you do zoomies under his watchful gaze. toji doesn't mind you running around, as long as you don't disappear from his sight. please, he'd go insane.
toji often mistakes the cursed spirits that avoid you for being scared of him.
speaking of cursed spirits, he doesn't understand how you're so friendly to them?
like, you know that curse he has around his body who stores his weapons?? you think it looks a pokemon or sort, so you befriended and it actually likes you. please you call it weedle and it concerns toji how you find it adorable looking.
toji is the type to toss you in the air, raise you up with his arms or legs, or just lets you dangles on him, but he NEVER drops you.
like, he'd be exercising when you climb onto his leg or back.
toji doesn't mind, he thinks it is very cute, especially when you try to mimic what he does.
except for that one time when you pulled out a sword from mister weedle his cursed spirit like it was nothing and began swinging it.
toji likes to make you laugh, your sweet laughter and giggles are music to his ears. and to top them all off with your smile? gosh, you're so pure.
he's happy when you are happy and he's sad when you are.
toji will actually make silly faces and crack jokes as he wipes the tears rolling down your cheek.
and when you get a nightmare?
toji runs up to your aid, cradles you in his arms with your foreheads pressed against each other. "i will always be here for you baby. your daddy will always keep you safe and that's a promise."
you were both his strength and weakness; toji's sweet chaotic little angel.
if only you knew how much it pained him to leave you in gojo's care, knowing how it would be better for you.

I LOVE No Straight Roads
Honestly it’s hard to keep me away from a game with great visuals and even greater character design. I knew from the INSTANT I saw these characters that I was going to love it. I just finished it because it’s (unfortunately) pretty short, and even though I cheesed the final boss through it’s very lenient death mechanics (Instant respawn at the cost of a good rank) I actually appreciated that it wasn’t a pure cake walk. I’ve yet to rematch all of the bosses, but since I had genuine trouble with the later ones I’ll hold off on that.
But who cares about gameplay, am I right? I sure as hell don’t. I would’ve bought the game no matter what the hell it was. I wanted the characters (and the music, although I realized that second) and that was it.
First of all, I love any world that is super fantastical but cheesy in its concept, ala a city powered by music, and battles between artists using music. Ideas like this only spawn from a mind that wants to create a fun atmosphere, if nothing else, and it was sure as hell fun. I genuinely love when someone goes so far into a crazy idea and doesn’t waste your time explaining it with real world logic. Wanna know how a city can be powered by music? Shut up and look at the cute virtual mermaid. Lord knows I did. Every once in a while, it does you good to just let the player/reader/viewer just revel in the idea without having to go out of your way to make things seem realistic. It’s not about “turning your brain off” or whatever, it’s picking your battles.
Also, I can seriously love a world with great background characters to it. Any game with the right situation to insert the random nobodies you find onto the streets into the art in the credits really played into the greatness of the world’s less important characters, and that’s always a good thing. It’s technically world building. But, since I always love to pick favorites, I’d have to say my favorite background character is easily Mia, the NSR infodesk assistant. It’s funny, because you can literally search “nsr characters” into Google and she’s the third image result. I love how jumpy she is when you first interact with her, since NSR probably spread the word about B2J suggesting they’re rock thugs who’d beat up anyone, so for all she knows she could die right then and there with a guitar lodged in her skull. She’s probably just some intern trying to pay for college. She don’t want trouble.
Also, I just realized that 90% of the characters in this game have the same body structure that I always love, that being having arms/legs that sort of fan out in width into relatively large hands/feet. It’s a kind of limb structure I fall into so much because it just really hits me right for some reason. I really can’t explain why.
Anyways, I gotta talk about the big boys individually:
Mayday and Zuke are an amazing duo. I’m always a sucker for a cute and crazy girl, but honestly Zuke hit so many of the right notes too. I will say it’s weird to pair the martian Zuke with the humanly-skinned Mayday, but honestly it doesn’t even matter because he looks so cool on his own. I love his weird blocky blue dreadlocks, and his weirdly shaped shirt which bares his chest in the weirdest way... And, oh my god, Mayday’s weird Spongebob background flower eyes? It’s little tidbits like that that really make me jealous. How could I have ever thought of that? It looks so perfect, and I don’t know why. And her little booty jig she does in her idle animation? Adorable. I played as her as much as was reasonable not only because I’m a filthy button masher with little strategy but also because she’s so damn cute. I can also appreciate how she has a tough-as-nails persona while still keeping a semi-girly attitude, like with her falling for 1010 and Sayu. Characters are so much better when they’re a perfect blend of characteristics, instead of being all one-note, like how Zuke is the quiet one but gets heated against DK West, and all.
Honestly the voice acting for every character is great, but I love when Mayday’s VA’s accent shows through. It’s a perfect twang to accent (consider this the only acknowledgement of a pun in this post) her snarkiness.
DJ Subatomic Supernova was going to be an easy favorite since he’s all space-themed. Also, I don’t know why I always end up liking the egotistic characters. Not in the sense that I like their egotistic-ness, but in the sense that I like everything else about them and they just so happen to also be egotistic. The same applied with Empoleon (maybe like my 2nd favorite Pokemon) and Rarity from MLP, probably among others. Either way, I’ll never not love space themes. Not to mention he’s got a funky disco theme, and I’m slowly starting to realize that I am in extreme love with techno-funk styles of music. The instant I heard his music he cemented his place into my playlists.
As for design, I still have no idea what the fuck he is. Clearly AI is at human levels in this world, but if he’s a robot why does he still have hairy legs? But, if he’s a human, is that weird orb his head? Is it just some sort of puppet which he controls from inside his giant jacket? I know I dissed explaining things realistically but I actually want to know with this guy. Even the wiki doesn’t say. Either way, he’s clearly the logical extreme of “being at the center of your own universe.” Even his jacket depicts a solar system, with his hood being the sun. Didn’t see that until I tried to draw him. I really wish this guy wasn’t so tied to his DJ stand so I could reasonably draw him without it. I don’t want to draw his hairy ass legs. It is a great touch for his design though (although I prefer his beta look with pants and long boots, another design trait I tend to gravitate to) since DJs could reasonably not wear pants, since they’re always behind a table.
Sayu is my favorite. It’s so plainly obvious. It’s weird to say that sometimes, because some characters like Sayu are so clearly engineered to be as adorable as possible, to the point where they’re basically a parody of whatever they’re supposed to be emulating, but then they do that so well that they are still likable for what they’re trying to parody. Also, even though I’ve never looked into any vocaloid superstars myself, the fact that they exist and are loved in real life is absolutely perfect to be used as a character design in a world like this. It’s so weird conceptually, but we all know it’s normal and realistic. But yeah, she’s a giga-cutie whom I’ve already drawn and I’ve listened to her theme on loop on many different occasions. Favorite character, favorite track, favorite weapon of choice (What did I say about Empoleon?), which, and I wouldn’t have noticed this myself, looks like the USB symbol you see above USB ports on computers. How crazy perfect is that?
Even apart from my unbridled love for cute monster robot(?) girls, her boss fight is probably the 2nd greatest of them all, at least conceptually. She’s just a hologram, so you can’t touch her, but you CAN disconnect the artists which control her in order to defeat her. It’s the kind of concept for a boss fight that could only work for this type of character. I’m a sucker for the cute girl that provides her voice, but I love how the animator (video editor? the yellow one) actually attacks you with a mouse and lowers the brightness of the setting once he appears. Also, the mocap guy being the deeply-voiced type but still providing the adorable movements of her body. It’s such a great combo of characters, and their little extra art in the credits makes me like them even more. I just wish we could interact with them individually.
DK West was probably one of the most interesting characters visually, especially since I knew of every other NSR member long before the game came out, but I only just heard of him closer to the release. I wasn’t sure where he was placed, but I definitely assumed his gig was the weird shadow demon we saw in the trailers. When I finally saw him in game, I was shocked to hear him speak an entirely different language most of the time, which was really cool. Also, finding out he was tied to Zuke and wasn’t strictly an NSR artist really made him more interesting. You know, if his fucking shadow clone magic didn’t make him crazy cool enough. Even though I suck at his game and am not especially fond of his raps, the visual of him rapping with this giant monster behind him and dozens of weird shadow wingmen by his side hyping him up was probably one of the coolest in the entire game. The dark way they were hyping him up too gave such a bizarre atmosphere, especially since it parallels his seemingly chill and smiley demeanor.
I definitely hope they’ll introduce new bosses as DLC in the future, and make them sort of in the same vein as DK West, where they aren’t the biggest artists ever, but they want to pick a fight with B2J. I’d kill for any extra content this game can provide.
Yinu is obviously special since she was the subject of the demo they put out for the game. Even though I knew all her bells and whistles, she and her mom still beat me a few times in the full game. Considering she’s semi-tied to story-ish spoilers I kinda want to go more into her in a separate section. It is worth considering playing the game first since it’s not hard (with the easy going deaths) and it’s short length.
1010 seriously grew on me as I learned more about them and interacted with them. I got their shtick when I first looked at them, but after seeing that animation of them touring the city on Youtube I was kinda falling for them. Then, I learned that they’re apparently repurposed navy war robots? I mean, maybe not them specifically, but it seems to heavily point in that direction, with the warship cars and “attention!”s and all. It took me a bit to get into their music too, but once I actually fought them and put their actions to the music I fell in love with it. I swear, Neon J’s weird dancing can has some of the smoothest moves in all of gaming. I don’t know whether they mocapped out those movements or got one of the greatest animators ever, but it looks so impossibly clean his part of the song gets me like 30x more hype than it would normally.
Also, their little art piece of them looking at fan mail in the credits is probably one of the most adorable things ever. Even if they’re just Neon J’s puppets, that piece of art really makes it seem like they love every one of their fans. I’m not gonna lie, I might swoon a bit too if they picked me out and gave me some special attention.
Oh yeah, and the fact that Mayday was super sad in her showstopper against them was adorable and hilarious at the same time. The little tweaks they made to the showstopper for each fight were great.
Eve just has to be Lady Gaga, right? Like, an even crazier Lady Gaga. DJSS is Daft Punk (or any artist with a helmet persona, you know what I’m talking about), Sayu is Hatsune Miku, DK West is Kanye West, Yinu is a generic child protege, 1010 is a KPop boyband (just pick one) and Eve is Lady Gaga. That’s just how things are. But, again, this is the kind of boss fight that only this type of character could provide. It’s not just surreal imagery, it’s ARTISTIC surreal imagery. The fight is so mesmerizing in every way, especially by how it starts off so slow and calm and progresses to insanity, as well as the increased emotional investment in the fight making you feel so much more into it than just “That’s the boy band. Let’s fight.” Not only does it get you more invested, but it makes her artistic persona go deeper than just “she looks weird.” She is genuinely conflicted about her relationship with Zuke, and naturally that leads her to literally split him and Mayday apart. That mechanic specifically was the coolest, although I do wish they made it more obvious when you needed to switch over to a different side. I was getting pulverized by her fight too, since there were so many things to pay attention to. Her fight was definitely the best one.
Tatiana and Spoilers:
Let’s be real with ourselves, the twist was so obvious. I do also think, though, that obvious twists aren’t bad if they’re just good reveals. At some point, a person just has experienced so many stories that “only pretty good” twists are easy to spot. It doesn’t mean that the twists are bad, it just means you yourself experienced.
I feel like her transition from rock to EDM was pretty understandable, even as a non-musician. She was so caught up in what she assumed was popular that it basically consumed her. It’s easy as an artist to want to forgo what you truly want to make in favor of what makes you popular, and clearly since her transition to EDM made her the CEO of the biggest company in the city (world?) that probably made her think she truly needed to change her outlook. Then, when she saw B2J try to bring it back, she sort of coined them as being as misguided as she was and knocked them down a peg. Plus, they were kinda being jerks about it.
It’s kinda like the Trolls sequel, where everyone pegs rock music fanatics as being too stuck up in their own heads to appreciate other types of music, which honestly seems more like the case than the alternative. When I first heard of the story of the game, I was seriously hoping they did put an asterisk on B2J’s ambitions because they were a bit sketchy from the start.
That’s kinda where I want to talk about Yinu, because she was the true turning point in what they were doing. She’s literally 9 and yet she’s getting dragged into all this BS. When she said “I hate you all” at the end of her fight, and played a somber tune on her broken piano after the fight destroyed it, you kinda got a kick in the face to realize you’re kinda being an asshole to some of them. Sure, they fight back, but they wouldn’t fight in the first place if they didn’t have to. They are just people who play music under a joint name that B2J just so happened to get in hot water with.
Then, of course, there’s Kliff, who also reeked of surprise villain, and who’s basically the embodiment of the bad side of B2J, where he just wanted to destroy for his own sake and not for the actual greater good. Once B2J realized their mistake, they backed off, but Kliff was so hard pressed to do what he planned on in the first place he wouldn’t stop. I kinda wish he got a bigger fight to his own since he’s clearly a big enough tech genius to divert a whole satellite into one specific building. Maybe the Elliecopter chase bit was his thing, but I do kind of wish he was there to fight against them too.
Even though Tatiana did kind of reform a bit quick, It’s still not too crazy to assume she could see that B2J was just misguided and the fact that they worked to revert their wrongdoings for her sake would make a pretty strong impressions. They clearly can hold their own, so it’s not like she wouldn’t want them to join NSR too.
Oh yeah, and her boss fight was clock/time themed. If there’s a theme under space that I love, it’s clocks/time.
And If I am to be respected by the internet, I must provide a negative opinion to balance out my positive one. I will say that the character model physics (like Mayday’s braids, DK West’s vest thing, Neon J’s fluffy neck thing, etc) got kinda funky at times. Especially DK West’s vest, which was completely messed up for every scene he was in... Also, even though the voices are mostly great, some lines felt a bit off. Just a bit. That good enough? Good.
But yeah anyway that’s another favorite game to add to the pile. Eventually I’m gonna have to compile a true list of my all-time favorite games/movies because I do kind of want to have a solid idea of what my all-time favorites are.

How did you meet Minerva and when did she evolve?
Minerva was found in an airport. Some seedy stop that was between johto and sinnoh, I bought a real cheap ticket and wanted to travel. Normal teenage thing. So while waiting to catch my next flight, I had like a four hour wait, obviously you go and snoop around while you got time to kill, and I happened across a guy selling Pokemon, rare and some shiny. You could tell it wasn’t a caring vendor, but he boasted breeding them all personally, vouching for their ease to raise because of his input (turns out he was just real aggressive and the Pokemon were scared of him). Most looked, well, nervous but healthy I suppose, but one did not. Stacked away from full view I found what would come to be Minerva. She had the shiny gene but her fur was ridden with some kind of mange, and the usual pinkness of her fluff was dull, very subtle, dusty coloured. She did nothing but cry the whole time I tried to talk to her, and huddled away in the corner to avoid any contact or attention. A very sad case, which I asked the guy about out of anger, more than anything else. He blamed the parent Pokemon, as they had abandoned her early, giving her little care and attention. I suppose you could say she was the runt of the litter. Instead of him doing his damn job, he left her to see if she would survive it, and she did. A fighter from the very start, even if she didn’t know it herself, that little Buneary defied the odds and made it to the airport, to be sold. Her fellow shiny Buneary (he said he had about 15, she was the last one) had all been chosen, paid for and taken away. So I asked her price, which was more than the money I had at the time, and had to haggle him down a bit due to her condition, leaving me with no savings, no money for my trip, no way to get food, no way to afford a hotel, and no way to get home. I had planned to buy the return ticket when I had seen the new location enough, and was ready to return, that was now not an option.
So I started the trip broke, with a sick Pokemon, this was pre-professor studies so I had to learn a lot on the job then and there, and I didn’t have anyone to send me money. We spent the whole trip nursing her, training her, she didn’t battle at all, but we had to to make money. I had Valka and Booker already, so we did manage to get enough to eat on that first night, and we could buy some medicine, and a cheap tent from a junk store, it had some holes but we made do. That first night in a tent we were all in a pile going to sleep, I had an umbrella plugging one hole above us, where rain kept dripping in, and we were all looking through a magazine I stole from the waiting room at the pharmacy, going through interviews and images and stories, the Buneary saw beautiful Pokemon, people, precious items, it was some fashion mag, so she got her first real look into that world, and she fell in love. I’m pretty sure she stayed up all night reading it, by morning she had found a sharp-ish key from my pocket, and had crudely cut out items of clothing, jewellery, and one word. A random name, from a tiny footnote, credit to a photographer, Minerva was the woman’s last name, and the little Buneary had carefully cut it out and put it on her chest like a name tag. It was the first decision she had ever been allowed to make for herself, and a huge deal, so the name stuck.
Spent 8 months in sinnoh in total, and in that time Minerva learned how to come out of her shell. She had been malnourished, and was really touch starved, having been rejected from just about everything she ever knew, plus basically fleas. We worked on her feelings a lot, you’d not know it looking at her now, but the shyness was really an issue, she didn’t have confidence to fight, so we trained her without actual battle, worked it into games, and about 4 months in she partook in her first fight, winning by a landslide. It took all that time of confidence building, and play fighting, and working with her, along side the others, and only one battle got her to evolve. It was a shock to everyone, she changed to Lopunny, her pink returned as her weight did, the fleas she once had were treated, her energy levels went up, fear went down, and with lots of grooming she really did repair in amazing time. Her love of fashion and design grew and grew, what money we had spare during our trip went to the team, and usually that included a new item of clothing for her. She learnt to be loved, and now she’s a sassy sweet wonderful Pokemon, who keeps me on my toes by starting rebellions, breaking into the weapons lockers, and generally encouraging Pokemon to be their most authentic selves....which usually is her manipulating them to do what she wants and cause trouble. If she’s with me she’s pretty chill, if someone else has to handle her...I pity them. You can keep her happy and less difficult if you give her spa items and activities to do. She will spend days on self-care and pampering, and will even do so with others should they be likeminded.
Minerva is now one of my strongest partners, she’s a near permanent member of the team, save for the days where she’s having some her-time, which we alwasy allow for. Her confidence talks for shiny Pokemon who are either handed to us, or brought by trainers for help, have improved the lives of many. Some will camp out on the island and let their Pokemon go and be semi-wild again, giving them a holiday, time to interact with their own kind, and often learn how to utilise their skills, abilities, and to learn tips and tricks from their own about how to better care for their bodies and minds.

Villains vs Antagonists, what each word means because this fandom uses them as synonyms when they are not
Oh boi, who would’ve thought that this was my debut analysis post on Tumblr for this fandom? Hi, it is I, Redemption Anon from @kateis-cakeis’ blog. This isn’t the post I promised to post first, but this topic has bugged me, especially in the current events. It is time to talk about villains and antagonists, DSMPblr.
Disclaimer before I get into it: I am what would be considered an old dog in this fandom, I’ve watched in a weird way Season 1 while it was still going down, and I officially started lurking on Tumblr through anons on a couple of blogs right at the start of Season 2. It’s just that now I felt the need to make a blog where I analyse stuff. So, I feel like I have some knowledge, albeit imperfect, of characters and events, across the story. Also, I am talking about the characters here, not the CCs. If I mention a CC, their name will be labeled accordingly.
With that out of the way, let’s jump into it.
Now, you may see the words “villain” and “antagonist” being used a lot when discussing the DSMP and other media in general, but the thing is, they are not synonyms, and I feel like a lot of people fail to grasp that, because oftentimes, we have characters that are both at the same time, making the line blurry. Well, let me try to explain my take on these terms.
An antagonist is a person who opposes the protagonist, it’s the rival of the main character, the anchor of the POV that is followed in the story. This usually means that an antagonist can be paired up with the villain role, and the protagonist with the hero role, but it’s not always the case. There are stories where the protagonist is the villain, and the antagonist is the hero (for example, the Genocide Run of Undertale). And even then, there are antagonists that aren’t the villain in the grand scheme of things (for example, you wouldn’t call Gary from Pokemon a villain, would you?) Basically, antagonists are very much POV-centric. In the DSMP, the best example I can give is the BA versus Techno. From Techno’s POV, the BA was his antagonists, while from the BA POV, Techno was the antagonist. Bear in mind, neither party was a villain, or a hero.
A villain is very much a person that serves an evil purpose, the opposing force to the hero of the story, whose actions point to a good purpose. While the hero is the person you are supposed to root for, the villain is the one who is supposed to lose, to not cause a bad ending to your story. The villain and the hero depend a lot on morality. Villains can have downright evil goals, like say, destroying the planet or something repulsive enough to make most people root against them, or morally-grey goals, where they intend to do evil for what they think is the greater good. The last one works well with sympathetic villains or protagonist villains, because you get to see them from another angle. In the DSMP I think it’s safe to say we have two true villains, that being Dream and the Egg, because almost everyone agrees that if these two got their way, it would be bad. I am going to talk just about one of them, however.
Okay, now that we made those two terms clear, let me repeat: antagonists depend on the POV that is observed, while villains depend on morality. On the DSMP these two factors make saying the categories characters belong to tricky, especially when some self-assign or are assigned by other characters or even the fandom into archetypes. In this analysis I want to analyse Wilbur, Puffy (the characters that self-assigned themselves as villains at one point in their arcs) Tommy (who I saw people assigning him as a villain recently) and Dream (one of the true villains of this story, and not only that, he fits the classic combo of antagonist and villain).
The Self-Appointed
Welp, time to talk about my favorite character, Wilbur, and sympathise with Puffy fans, because they’re going right through what we, Wilbur fans, went through since “Then let’s be the bad guys” was uttered.
So, Wilbur and Puffy self-appointed themselves as villains. That makes them villains, right? Not quite. See, the thing with villains is that they are dependant on morals. The audience isn’t the only one that has a moral code, characters have one too. And, in my opinion, in this case we have to talk about the moral codes of these two.
Both Wilbur and Puffy have, or, had, moral codes that revolved around peace, not killing, and the like. Moral codes that you would generally label under “morally good”. What happened to these two, then, for them to go and call themselves villains? Well, it’s quite simple actually.
They broke their own moral codes. I’ll start with Wilbur because I am more familiar with him, and I can use the quotes provided by kateis-cakeis here (thank you my dude for your hard work collecting these!).
So, we all know that at the beginning, Wilbur had a very peace-oriented mindset, wanting to use words over weapons in conflict [“We don’t win wars with battles and with armour. We win wars with our words, Tommy. We’re starting a revolution, not a war.” - (Wilbur’s The Wall: 4:54, 29th July)], and, as such, he saw himself as a good guy [“It was Dream, he’s kinda the bad guy. Yeah, we’re the good guys, we’re the good guys here.” - (Wilbur’s Niki joins L'Manberg: 22:28, 6th Aug)]. What changed? Well, for starters, Wilbur underwent a spiral from paranoia that started from the Independence war. We can see his opinions change thanks to the flashback to the Election era [“And power isn’t gaining from diplomacy, and bureaucracy, and giant courthouses suspended in the sky, blah blah blah. It’s gained from swords, Quackity. It’s gained from blades, it’s gained from steel, iron.” - (Quackity’s Killing My Enemies: 1:06:19, 12th Apr)]. Of course, his spiral worsened after the Election, but we can assume he still thought of himself as a good guy.
That is, until the infamous scene. You know the one: [“Tommy, I’ve got a question for you, right. Because this festival, this is a good idea, this doesn’t seem like a bad like, this doesn’t seem evil. You know? This seems like a nice friendly thing Schlatt’s doing. Tommy, are we the bad guys?” - (Wilbur’s who are you go away: 1:08:14, 8th Oct)]. Oh yes, here, after about two weeks of being in a high stress situation, high paranoia and Schlatt seemingly doing a good thing for his nation, Wilbur starts to question himself. He starts to question if this is the moral thing to do, the right thing to do. And, logically, if you’re not in the right, you’re in the wrong, so the conclusion he reaches, is this: [“Tommy, am I, am I a bad, am I a villain of this story. Am I the villain in your history?” - (Wilbur’s who are you go away: 1:08:59, 8th Oct)]. He self-appoints himself as a villain, and then embraces the role, as well know. As Season 1 progresses, Wilbur doubles down more and more on this idea that he is the villain, and his story ends tragically. Even his ghost thinks of him as a villain, and compares Phil to Saint George, a hero, for killing him (I will get back to this).
So, was Wilbur an antagonist? Yes, definitely, especially from his POV, I would argue, because if he thought he was in the right, he would have never uttered the infamous “Then let’s be the bad guys.” Hell, other Wilbur analysts have pointed out that Wilbur may have wanted to be stopped from pressing the button. Even from his POV, you could argue he’s against the protagonists of the arc. The fact he had some potent self-hatred just helps cement that he was an antagonist, someone who must be stopped.
Was he a villain? I would say no. Look, I don’t see Wilbur as a villain, even if he tried to place himself into this archetype. In Season 1, I think the villain was Schlatt, followed by Dream, starting at the end of the Season. Wilbur strikes me more as a fallen hero, as a man who was okay, who would be cherished and loved and looked up to by others, but at one point took a wrong turn, didn’t find his way back, and continued down the path that doomed him, while his loved ones turned away from him, because they didn’t know how to help and he distanced himself from them by lashing out. It’s a tragic story arc.
“But Redemption Anon!” I hear you say, “CC!Wilbur’s DnD Alignment Chart classifies him as Neutral Evil, bordering on Chaotic Evil!” The DnD Alignment Chart is a chart that while it helps to get the vibe of a character, it can be often arbitrary or can be blurred because characters fit in with characteristics of more than one alignment (see the debate from around that time surrounding Techno’s assigned alignment). Plus, if we look at Wilbur from the POV of most, if not all, characters, without reading into his reasonings, yeah, he looked evil. Even to himself, we see it from quotes like these: [“Here’s the thing, I genuinely think, if it weren’t for me and you dying right, the server would be in shambles. I know for a fact that if I come back, or if I’m brought back to life in some way it’s definitely gonna just go [shit again]” - (Tommy’s am i dead?: 10:10, 4th March)], [“I know what I’m like, that’s the issue.” - (Tommy’s am i dead?: 10:29, 4th March)]. Was he evil, though? I would say not, more misguided than anything. That doesn’t mean he was a saint, nor was he the devil. Of course, he did some wrongs, and me denying that would be weird, because that’s why I say he should get a redemption arc, if he had a clean record, he wouldn’t be in need of one. He’s hurt people, intentionally or not, and he has to make up for those actions, if he is to be redeemed, but that doesn’t make him evil or a villain.
“But Redemption Anon!” I hear you say again, “Ghostbur considers him a villain and the quote from Ghostbur says he was a villain that wasn’t convinced to be a hero!” Yes, true, but we’re forgetting here two things:
1. Ghostbur is biased against Alivebur because he remembers his death as a good thing, and people don’t like him, therefore he rationalises it as Alivebur being the villain of the story and Phil being the hero, pulling out a Christian story that blatantly, hard-line shows us who is the villain and who is the hero: [“I- I- I’ve read the history books, Phil. I’ve read the history books. You- You- You slayed the dragon, you slayed Alivebur. You were the- You- You are the St George of the Dream SMP. We understand, everyone understands that, Phil.” - Wilbur’s First Time Ghostbur Live: 17:58, 6th Jan)]. Honestly, if I was in his shoes and I was everyone hating my past self and I didn’t remember my actions, I would assume I was evil too, because that is easier to comprehend than the fact that they are hating a mentally ill person that didn’t get the help, support and guidance they needed while they had a paranoia-fueled spiral.
2. Ghostbur, when he said: [“But a villain is just a- Sometimes the line’s a little blurry, you could say, a little blurry. It’s a tiny bit. It’s like, a villain, a villain is just a hero you haven’t convinced yet.” - (Tommy’s The Plan To Kill Dream: 1:01:31, 14th Mar)] he was talking to people who considered Wilbur a villain, and he tried to make them consider another side. This context matters, if he dismissed that Wilbur was a villain, there was a risk of his point being dismissed completely. Tommy and Tubbo, while they knew Alivebur from the beginning, his later actions tainted their view of him, and he has caused them hurt, and Ranboo has never met him, only knows of him from word of mouth. It’s hard to make these three consider him from the angle that he was not a villain. The line is still very good, but, again, context matters.
“But Redemption Anon!” I hear you yet again, “Wilbur is even worse in the Void and Dream will be killed to prevent him from being ressurected!” Okay so I don’t think we can speak about the Void here, in this context. You see, all we got out of the Void was a 5 minute conversation that sounded more like snippets out of a longer conversation, or even multiple conversations, that took place over what Tommy perceived as 2 months. From that conversation, all we got is that Wilbur’s self-loathing worsened, he thinks he, and by projection, Tommy, are better off dead for the good of the server, he knows when the Universe will end and he plays solitaire. The rest of the information we got about him was from Tommy, who is, sadly, an unreliable source, because he is not disclosing what Wilbur told him he’d do, beside a general “it will be bad and we have to stop it”. Tommy was also dealing with the trauma of being brought back, and let’s not forget that the Void didn’t give him peace, he was essentially tortured constantly for what he felt were 2 months. To me, it feels like it’s an intentional lack of detail and information, with a lot of discrepancies (like, if Wilbur scared Tommy so much, it’s interesting he refused to talk to MD when offered the chance, and Schlatt mentioned both Wilbur and Tommy being together at the gym) to throw us off. For all we know, Wilbur could be planning the end of the world if he is resurrected, or, he could’ve been making empty threats, or, he was rambling with no thought of it being taken seriously, or, he intentionally scared Tommy into not bringing him back, because he wants to stay dead. All of those could be what happened, and we may not know until he gets resurrected. Until then, I can’t call him a villain, or evil, even if he thinks of himself as a hazard to others, or Tommy’s motive to kill Dream.
Also, don’t be surprised Wilbur’s mental health seemingly went downhill ever since he’s been there. It’s possible the feeling of being constantly pulled apart isn’t just a Tommy thing, Wilbur may feel it too, and he’s been in there for what he may feel as being 10 to 15 years. Add the fact he’s been in Schlatt’s presence for that time, don’t act surprised he’s gotten worse. He didn’t have the conditions to plateau, let’s not even talk about getting better.
I think I defended Wilbur’s honor long enough lol, now onto Puffy.
I am not as familiar with Puffy as I am with Wilbur, but I will try to present her side as best as I can. We all know that post-Doomsday, Puffy took on the knightly goal of protecting people, especially the minors of the server. Puffy had the misfortune, however, that her closest friends and allies turned to be at least antagonists and at most villains, their actions leaving her feeling hurt and betrayed.
If she tried her best to try to help Bad and Ant, her friends, with the Egg problem, the Banquet shattered the remaining trust she had in them because they killed Foolish, and whether her belief that they killed him first to hurt her is true or not, they did hurt her. She felt betrayed, and accusing her of being the reason her son was dead didn’t help.
The moment she got the axe from Quackity Ant’s fate was sealed, because in that moment of grief and anger, Puffy sought out a retribution, a revenge that went against her moral code. We can see this clearly affect her, because once she leaves the Banquet’s hall, she mourns the death of Foolish and the fact that she killed her best friend, when she swore to protect lives. The Banquet, overall, is a highly traumatic event for her.
No wonder that the next day, her outlook on things changed. She branded herself a villain. She started making vague references to what she can do as a villain, because no one would expect it from her, even name-dropping Doomsday, one of the worst events she witnessed, and the one that turned her to her knightly arc. For me it’s clear that what she said was out of trauma, out of shock and out of desperation.
If you think about it, the world of the DSMP is very bleak, canonical minors have heavy trauma and continue to pay for wrongs they did long ago or suffer because people think they need to learn something or because they are used by others. Puffy noted it herself, Doomsday came and went and the perpetrators were never punished for it. While Techno and Phil aren’t villains per se, they are antagonists in this situation, aiding the villain, Dream, neither of them has suffered any consequence for destroying L’Manberg. No, getting locked into Pandora does not count, because Dream was imprisoned just because he had the Revive Book and he was too dangerous to let loose. It would seem that you can perform evil acts without care or consequence half the time, so why not turn to what you perceive as villainy to exact your justice on those who wronged you?
As of me writing this, all Puffy has done so far is say that she will be a villain, yet I have seen some takes that treat her as if she has been pulling the strings all along. I have seen people claim she has the Nuke, that she, for some reason, controls Ranboo’s enderwalk and even that she will break out Dream. I think this is ridiculous, not only because some of those things happened before she even considered calling herself a villain, but also because she has yet to take action. This is another “Then let’s be the bad guys” situation, because we have a character, that, after getting their moral code flipped on them, in a moment of vulnerability, they see themselves as a villain, and being the villain is the way to resolve their problems.
With that said, is Puffy an antagonist? Surprisingly, I say she was one already. If you look at the story from the Eggpire’s perspective, she is an antagonist, because she wants to stop the Egg. From other POVs, she’s not, and she hasn’t done anything to cement her as an antagonist with bad intentions so far.
Is she a villain? No, and I think that call is too soon to make, regardless of what she says. Remember, she feels herself as a villain, she is an unreliable narrator for herself in this situation. All she did was make a promise, with no action or plan. She also doesn’t seem to want to cause mass harm on the server, rather concentrating on the Eggpire. Another thing to note, she sees her killing Ant still something bad she did, even if she doesn’t regret it, because she is open to receiving consequences for the kill.
Truly it’s a matter of time to see where Puffy will go with this promise, and I hope she doesn’t go down the same path Wilbur went, not only because of story purposes, but also meta purposes.
The Fandom-Appointed
Ah, Tommy, one of the most misunderstood characters on the DSMP. So, why am I discussing Tommy here? Because I saw an influx of people calling him a villain after the last lore stream, and I want to set the record straight, because, just like how the reaction to Puffy’s “I’m a villain now” moment are ridiculous, so are the reaction to Tommy’s… especially because Tommy didn’t have an “I’m a villain now” moment.
I have to say, since Season 2 started the parallels between Tommy and Wilbur and Tubbo and Schlatt, people, at the beginning of Exile, were rooting for “VillainInnit”. People seemingly wanted him to follow Wilbur’s path, but he didn’t. He saved himself and went to Techno’s. While at Techno’s, while he was attempting to heal from Exile, due to wanting to feel accepted and gain Techno’s friendship, he started making actions of violence, that painted him in an antagonistic light. He even quoted Wilbur, which, as I remember, sent the fandom in a panic, because people found this as confirmation for Tommy turning to villainy, history repeating itself.
… But it never happened, because Tommy realised at the Green Festival that what he’s doing is wrong, and set off to make up for his actions. Yet since then people have been dogpilling him and calling him a villain, for following his moral compass, finding his way back and trying to make things better. Every mistake he makes or flaw he has is highly scrutinized to a ridiculous level. At this point blaming Tommy for all the wars is a meme.
It’s funny, actually, that Tommy gets pushed into the hero archetype by the people on the server, and the moment he makes a wrong step, by accident or because he was messing around, he’s at best an antagonist and at worse a villain, proving a point I always make when talking about the archetype of the hero, in any media: the title of hero puts the character on a tiny pedestal, and if they make the smallest misstep, they will fall into the pit of being branded evil and a villain. And that pit, story-wise, is hard to climb, because characters forget easy the good someone does, and often remember the bad they did, because it’s easier to see someone in a black-and-white perspective. They did bad? Then, they must have always been bad. Tommy doesn’t even want to be a hero or a villain, he just wants to vibe, but external forces do not let him have peace, forcing him to act, for his and the server’s sake.
Now, I have seen people condemn Tommy and already trying to push the narrative that he’s bad for wanting to kill Dream. Let’s look at Tommy’s morals: he, before he visited Dream for a second time, told Sam that he believes no one deserves to die, not even Dream. We can say that this is a core part of his moral code, not killing people.
This belief, as far as I remember, has been contradicted twice, once when he was killing Dream in the Season 2 Finale, and now, as he plans to kill Dream. Tommy himself recognises that this isn’t the right thing to do, but it’s the only thing to do. Why isn’t he a villain or an antagonist then? Because the context of why he did and does this is important.
Dream was planning to kill his best friend right in front of him, lock him up in Pandora and use the attachments of everyone on the server to control them. Tommy, and everyone on the server, realised Dream was a serious threat then, someone too dangerous to wonder around. Tommy took to killing Dream as a necessity to protect himself and everyone else. The only reason Dream was put in Pandora is because he revealed he knows how to revive the dead, thus they can’t kill him without dooming everyone to being dead, forever. Pandora was the only solution they found to keep Dream alive while keeping him powerless.
Second, Dream killed him, and brought him back, telling him he can send him back and declaring himself a God. Whatever Tommy and Wilbur spoke about in the Void clearly marked him, because he was willing to forgive Dream, if he is to not bring Wilbur back. Dream refused, and Tommy realised Dream is too dangerous for everyone on the server to be kept alive, especially to the people that came to the Vault, thus, for everyone’s safety, he must kill him.
This is not an evil, villainous or antagonistic goal, it is quite stereotypically good, protagonistic and heroic (ironically it’s what Aang was advised to do in ATLA, kill Ozai for the good of the world, even if he betrays his pacifist beliefs). Tommy has been pushed in the role of a reluctant hero, and even if he fails his goal and Dream escapes, that will not make him a villain or evil.
At the same time, as I said, antagonists are POV-centric, so, of course, Tommy is an antagonist in certain POVs. The Egg dislikes him, Jack wants him dead, Dream and Tommy at the point are sworn enemies and Techno doesn’t like him. He is an antagonist with good intentions, and that is the final nail in the coffin that I do not see him as a villain. He never saw himself as in the right doing bad things, never tried to justify them as being the right thing, and has apologised for his actions. He’s not a saint, but he’s not the devil either, and neither is he evil or a villain.
The True One (Story-Appointed)
Okay, now we are talking business. Dream, flat out, is a both an antagonist and a villain. The classic combo people think of when they think of a bad guy in a story. I’ll be honest I like him as a villain. You know you wrote and acted a good villain when you cheer as they hit rock bottom, and you love to hate them. That’s exactly what Dream is.
What in my mind separates Dream from the rest of the characters I have discussed in this analysis so far is intent and moral code. Make no mistake, all the characters I mentioned up until now know they’ve done something bad, whether they doubled down, plan to, or made up for their actions. And all of them, Dream included, started out from the same slate: characters with intentions and goals that are neutral to good on the general morality scale. Yeah, that’s right, I don’t consider Dream to have been evil from the start. At the beginning and middle of Season 1, I would have put him in the trickster category because he seemed to vibe with whoever he wanted, as long as he came on top, but without too much malice. He fanned the flames (like lavacasting Sapnap’s Eiffel Tower and giving Tommy Mars) but nothing big enough to make him a definite villain.
It was at the end of Season 1 that I could see him slowly shaping up as the definite villain we will witness from Season 2 to possibly the end of the DSMP. Allying with Schlatt over the Revive Book, telling Eret he plans to bring every faction under him, the traitor deal and him cheering for L’Manberg’s death all pointed to him becoming the next big threat. Then Season 2 happened, Exile happened, and this cemented him as the villain of the DSMP.
Doomsday came and we finally got a window to see why Dream did what he did: “You’re too fun”. People may wonder why I don’t consider Techno and Phil as villains for participating in Doomsday. This is why. While Techno and Phil had reasons that, while controversial, could be understood as valid motives to do what they did, Phil saying they were sending a message when talking to Ghostbur, Dream did all of that, all of that destruction, because he found it fun. He found it fun to torment and tear down a nation, because it was standing in his way, and it was something Tommy cared about.
The Vault scene also shows that Dream was planning to backstab everyone, by stealing their pets or their valuable items, or, in Bad’s case, cage an entire sentient being, Skeppy, in a cell smaller than an animal’s pen. Not even Techno, a guy that owes him a favor, was going to be spared. Let’s not even talk about him wanting to kill Tubbo just so he can make Tommy a hero by giving him a tragic backstory. All of these, plus killing Tommy and threatening to send him back to the Void for more info and declaring himself a God, point to Dream being a villain.
And then we have the morality side. In the last visit, Dream told Tommy that everyone thinks they are in the right from their perspective, which Tommy immediately denied. Both Dream’s line and the reply he got are very important. Dream’s line establishes that, as far as we know, Dream sees himself as in the right. Everything he did, Exile, abusing Tommy to the point of the latter considering ending his life, Doomsday, the Vault, almost killing Tubbo? All of that seems to have been not bad or evil actions in his mind. He sees himself as in the right, and that makes him a great villain. Tommy’s reply, well, him denying it, I always saw it with double meaning. On a surface level, Tommy’s obviously talking about himself, he has said time and time again that he’s done wrong and he needs to right it. On a deeper level, however, I saw him referring to Wilbur with this line, too. Because, as established before, Wilbur chose to do bad, even if he knew it was bad. He wouldn’t have said “Then let’s be the bad guys” if he thought they were in the right, and that is the fundamental difference between Wilbur, Puffy, Tommy and Dream. The former three, as shown in the previous sections, know that they did bad things, even from their moral perspectives, while Dream thinks he is in the right.
This is why Dream is the villain, while the others are antagonists at best and conflicted, broken and forced to walk a certain path, at worst.
