Cryptid-esque Batman, but he uses vantablack for his entire outfit.

Everything is just, black, darkness, a moving shadow, save for when the cloak opens and there's the bat-symbol. He keeps it a different colors so his kids can still find him, but the moment they're in range he closes the cloak and it's like they're just gone.

He still has all of his armour and gadgets, they're just completely invisible amidst the rest of his form. The kids might be covered in bright colors, but he makes sure to give them each a cape or cloak for hiding. Just in case.

The issue is that now all of Gotham thinks the batclan are some sort of living shadows that form in the night. Not helped when Duke joins for the daylight and quite literally glows.

Vantablack is a class of super-black coatings with total hemispherical reflectances (THR) below 1% in the visible spectrum. — The original Vantablack coating was grown from a chemical vapour deposition process (CVD) and is claimed to be the ‘world's darkest material’ absorbing up to 99.965% of visible light measured perpendicular to the material. The coatings are unique in that they are super-black and retain uniform light absorption from almost all viewing angles.

hi, I think it was u I saw on a post related to the whole Vantablack thing (I'm not sure tho, so if not let me know) and I wanted to ask for sources relating to the actual story instead of the one Stuart Semple has in everyone's heads? not for me, I'm trying to tell someone I know about this whole thing, and they asked for sources but I can't find the post I saw last night.

Despite many places including news articles calling it a "pigment," it isn't.

Artists had gotten in touch; Surrey decided to work with Kapoor. “His life’s work had revolved around light reflection and voids,” Jensen says. “Because we didn’t have the bandwidth to work with more than one—we’re an engineering company—we decided Anish would be perfect.”

They signed a contract. Kapoor got exclusive rights to use Vantablack in art.

And slowly, over weeks, people somehow started to get the (wholly incorrect) idea that Kapoor not only had the sole rights to use Vantablack … but to use the color black, “which is not possible and not correct,” Jensen says. “We haven’t licensed any color. We’ve licensed technology that we developed at considerable cost that absorbs light and has artistic applications.”

(To be fair, it's not a "ban." It's an exclusive license to a proprietary process. Artists aren't allowed to print their own cash or make and sell their own Coca-Cola, either. But OK.)

“It’s totally absurd. Anish Kapoor can’t make anything with this stuff. It’s prohibitively expensive to manufacture, and the manufacturing process is beyond his capabilities,” Conway says. “That renders the whole situation really a meta situation, and it just becomes about these ideas.”

can we talk about how everything about Anish Kapoor is a fucking lie.

No he does not hate how people call it 'The Bean', he has openly adored the name. Quote from Kapoor 'I call it "The Bean," too'.

Also, he didn't just simply buy exclusive rights to Vantablack. for one Vantablack isn't a paint, its an industrial process that can only be done in strict conditions with specialist machinery in small amounts. The lab couldn't afford to give usage to every artist who wanted to so instead they specifically chose Anish Kapoor to make art installations as advertisement.

It's fucking insane how much of a whiny bitch Stuart Semple is. His Black 4.0 is a great product but to sell it by shitting on another artist for childish accusations is just dumb.
