I’M BACK!🍓
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hahah I never left or anything but, hey, I’m back!—from my 3D world dealings HA🥸My mental and financial troubles have mellowed and now I have more peace of mind to joyfully create on Tumblr💋Right now, I’m only thinking of surrounding myself with things that are essential!
Essential things for now include:
literally just having a peaceful 24-hour day by day
eating well and reasonably
light exercises for flexibility and brain functions
replying messages without anxiety
daydreaming for manifesting👒
and, prioritising endeavours that make my heart sing🌻
Nowadays I’m also trying to get back to video gaming whenever I have the time. I used to be an avid video gamer, you know. RPG mostly. I love grand stories. But right now, just to get a sense of that, I’m playing a game about creating a shopping mall on my phone LMAO It’s a totally different thing but it’s a good start!🤡
I AM RECLAIMING MY LIFE✨🥂✨
Summer is just around the corner and heatwaves may be a concerning hazard. Wherever you are in the world, I hope you are able to have a good time without any major injuries. Stay hydrated and eat your salads!🧉🥗🍸
Anyway, thanks for being here and reading this. I really appreciate your liking what I do. It makes my Life have meaning, to say the least. I will be back very soon with the last part of the ongoing PAC; you will LOVE it!📝💞🥰

MARCH Monthly Archive/ APRIL Update
Well, March was a better month for my writing, at least. Threw in two extra stories, so now I'm up by three weeks, and only had one story last month that I absolutely did not like. I'm also taking a few more days when writing some stories, and I feel like the quality has improved because of it.
On the more positive side, I blew up outta nowhere last month. Mostly on Tumblr, but Reddit showed me a little love too, and I gotta say it really made my month. I was just goofin' off at work when I saw a notice on my phone, and now there's definitely a video of me dancing like a kid on the security cameras. So thanks for that!
I'd also like to shout out to @agirlandherquill (Tumblr) & @kentuckyhobbit (Tumblr) for being my first followers! I hope you both enjoy the ride!
I'm also doing a new thing with these archive posts where I give you my "Best Foot Forward" story. Basically, if you had to read one story from me last month, the BFF would be it.
That being said, let's get to the archive:

I'm about to watch Kung Fu Panda 3 tonight.
I've seen KFP 1, Secrets of the Furious Five, Holiday special, KFP 2, Secrets of the Masters, and Secrets of the Scroll, in that order. In other words, my KFP rewatch marathon is almost over. Then I'll be "ready" for *sigh* KFP 4.
Wish me luck!
Update: It's been a week now since I watched KFP 3 along with Panda Paws. Words alone can't describe the beauty, awesomeness, heart, humor and near-perfection that Kung Fu Panda 3 is. Say what you want about it being the weakest of the original trilogy, but it closes the trilogy almost perfectly, like a cherry on top of ice cream.
Like all of us KFP fans, I used to take what we once had for granted. I took for granted that Kung Fu Panda would remain a trilogy and, if not, that the following sequels would hold up to the original.
How wishful thinking-ly wrong we were.
Kung Fu Panda 4 is, to put it simply, shaping out to be a disaster. From the Furious Five's absence, to the unnecessary unfunny humor, to the passing of the Dragon Warrior torch (which makes no sense) to some random out-of-place-looking fox thief voiced by Awkwafina, KFP 4 just...isn't it. Comcast-owned DreamWorks, and especially the director Mike Mitchell, is shamelessly sucking the soul out of Kung Fu Panda and turning it into another Ice Age. We had the chance to stop this from happening with the #notmykfp4 movement (started by yours truly), and our efforts were in vain.
Fortunately, we'll always have the original trilogy and fanworks to sustain us in wake of what comes.
So, my fellow KFP fans, do the fandom, do Kung Fu Panda itself a favor, and support this coming disaster as little as possible. Write fanfics (including rewrites of KFP 4), draw fanart, show your love for the true soul of Kung Fu Panda as much as possible.
That's the least we can do.

Google Algorithms Updates and changes
Google declares to update its algorithms every year in this article we will cover the Top 5 Google Algorithms Update, If you want to increase your website ranking and you don’t want to get your website hit in Google Algorithms then just need to follow daily Google update recently on 16th July 2021 Google has planned to roll out his new algorithms i.e, Link Spam Update and on 25th August Google has launched this algorithm.
According to Link Spam Update, all external links or affiliate links should be sponsored. If you have not changed your external and affiliate links to sponsored yet then do it quickly otherwise your website has a chance to get hit in Google Algorithms.
In June 2021, Google has come up with its Core Update where you have to keep your website user-friendly. If your website is not user-friendly like it takes lots of time the opening, unnecessary ads are running, the image or video size is too big, and unnecessary use of javascript will reduce the speed of your website the result is page being unresponsiveness. So if your website has any of these issues kindly solve them quickly.
In 2021 Google has come with its minor update i.e, Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP). Do you know why APM has launched in the 90s? At that time the mobile and the devices which we have has low performance and the internet speed was also not good at that time. So when anyone tries to open any website or any pages it will load slowly on that device that is why Google has thought to launch AMP so that the website loads fastly on any device.
But now in the 21st century Smartphones are coming with a good processor and because of Google Core Updates website loading speed is also getting fast that’s why websites get load fast on any device. That’s Why Google has shut down the AMP feature.
I just want to tell you that in 1 year Google declares lots of algorithms updates, If you are a Digital Marketer then you should follow top blogging websites to get day-to-day updates.
Top 5 Google Algorithms Updates:
If you are a beginner then you should know what the history of search engines was? how do Search Engines give ranking to the website? So In this article, I will cover all these things.
Topics should be covered:
Panda
Penguin
Page Layout
Hummingbird
RankBrain
Panda
Panda Algorithm was launched in 2011 to find out thin content (Spin Content) at that time most of the bloggers used article spinner tools to make their content unique spinner tools are easily available on the website where most of the bloggers spin the duplicate content and make it unique or can say plagiarism-free. That’s why at that time users are not getting the right answers for their queries, this content is made to manipulate the search engine to get a better ranking.
When Google has noticed that every website’s bounce rate is more than 80% then Google has thought to launch the Panda update to give a penalty to those websites that are using thin content, duplicate content, spammy content.
Penguin
Penguin update was launched in 2012, Penguin has launched to give punishment to those websites that are using irrelevant, spammy,over-optimized anchor text backlinks if anyone is creating irrelevant backlinks then the ranking of that website is getting affected by the Penguin update. At that time there are only two ways to manipulate search engine ranking first is thin content and the second one is spammy backlinks.
The main purpose of launching penguin update is not only to give punishment to the irrelevant backlinks but to increase the quality of the backlinks
Page Layout
Page Layout Algorithm was launched in 2012, Page Layout Algorithm was launched to give punishment to those websites that are running more ads in above-the-fold content or whose content quality is not good. Above the fold, content means when any website is loading on a device the first part of the website which is appearing on the screen is known as above the fold content.
You just want to do is to reduce the use of ads in the above-the-fold content.
Hummingbird
Hummingbird Algorithm was launched in 2013, Hummingbird was launched to give punishment to those websites that are using keyword stuffing in the content. Keyword Stuffing means adding keywords more than its density keyword stuffing reduces the quality of the content. Humminbird Algorithm was the biggest update by Google to improve the quality of the content. 1000 Word - 10 100 word - 2

Police emails urge 'serious discussion' about the future of Panda Game
The Ottawa Police Service raised the need for a "serious discussion" about the panda game's future in the aftermath of a second straight year of rowdy street parties, according to emails obtained by the CBC through an access to information request. Deputy Chief Steve Bell, then interim chief of the OPS, voiced his concerns in an email sent to the mayor, city councilors, and several high-ranking city officials shortly after midnight on Sunday, Oct. 2, the day after this year's game between the Carleton Ravens and the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees.
"This post-game activity was completely unnecessary and totally unacceptable," Bell wrote. "Sadly, it raises the need for a serious discussion about the future of this university event."
In a new release later that morning, the OPS stressed the dangerous and sometimes criminal activity of some participants but did not question whether the game should be canceled in the future.
Police said they arrested seven people during raucous post-game celebrations, during which one partygoer was videotaped dangling from a street light several meters above a crowd. Charges included public intoxication and mischief. Police also issued 88 tickets for open alcohol and fined two drivers $2,000 for noisy mufflers.
Anticipating similar celebrations to those that swept through the city's Sandy Hill neighborhood after the 2021 Panda Game, when revelers filled the streets and flipped a car on Russell Avenue, police vowed to take a "zero-tolerance approach" to any illegal behavior after this year's game.
Kim Ayotte, general manager of emergency and protective services with the City of Ottawa, told CBC in an email that the city has "engaged in conversations with partners" about events that took place after the 2022 Panda Game, as well as a pre-game tailgate party. Ayotte did not indicate whether those conversations contemplated the Panda Game's future.
Ottawa police, whose current chief, Eric Stubbs, was hired weeks after the game, did not respond to multiple requests for comment.
CBC Ottawa filed the access to information request shortly after the Panda Game and received more than 100 pages of emails, mostly operational updates sent by police to city leaders. In an email sent around 3:30 p.m. on game day, police notified city officials that "there were a couple individuals who went for a swim in the canal" but had since exited the water.
In multiple reports, the police touted the comprehensiveness and success of their own crowd management efforts. "We developed a very large, expensive, and resource-heavy plan to ensure public safety during this Carleton University and University of Ottawa event," Bell wrote. "It was good that we did." This evening, our officers and our colleagues from the OPP were called upon to manage large, hostile, and belligerent crowds that refused to leave the area.
A report prepared for the Ottawa Police Services Board estimated the total cost of policing the 2022 panda game at between $300,000 and $500,000.
Despite the positive reviews from the OPS, some Sandy Hill residents were frustrated with what they saw as a lack of police action. Robert Reid, who lives near the epicenter of the celebrations, estimated the crowd occupying an intersection near his home was between 500 and 1,000 people at its peak.
He said some drunk and belligerent members of the crowd shoved, physically assaulted, or threw objects at his neighbors. Reid said the crowd dispersed quickly whenever police advanced, but officers rarely did so. "There's nothing like a row of 50 cops sitting there looking at them and not saying anything to give them the impression that what they're doing is fine," he said.
In addition to police communications, CBC's access to information request turned up three emails from residents calling on then-Mayor Jim Watson to cancel the game. "As a city taxpayer, it pains me to think that I am paying the policing costs for a big rip-roaring party by those who pay no taxes," wrote one resident, whose name was redacted. "The City of Ottawa is going to hell in a handbasket."
The Panda Game has attracted controversy throughout its long history, which includes brawls, break-ins, and commando-style raids by students to liberate the trophy.
Ayotte said the city has not yet received an event application for the 2023 game. A spokesperson for the University of Ottawa said in an email that the school is in the "preliminary stages" of planning next year's event. This year, Carleton University's "student experience office" organized a post-game cleanup effort to clear debris left by the crowds in the Glebe and Old Ottawa South.
On its website, Carleton quotes an assessment of $42 million in economic benefit that can be attributed to the Panda Game. "We recognize and understand the importance of being a good and responsible neighbor," said a spokesperson for the school. "Consultations with our community partners are ongoing."

Everything you should know about Google algorithms
Tumblr media
Google is not a homogenous system anymore. It is a mixture of many complicated mechanisms and algorithms. And often it becomes difficult to tackle these algorithms and match them with the marketing strategies in hand.

To present your brand in front of your targeted audience, you must know how to rank your website. It also adds to the credibility of your business as people search for a related keyword.
In this article, we will discuss some of the primary Google algorithms and their performance and importance.
What are Google's algorithms?
Algorithms are defined as mathematical formulas that search engines use to rank sites and make them appear for the user based on any keyword.
It works to eliminate unnecessary content as well as maintain the efficiency of a search result.
Types of Google algorithms:
Panda Algorithm:
This algorithm is focused on analyzing non-unique and meaningless content. It works by keeping content as a priority; it watches the relevancy, volume, and quality of the content.
Creating unique content and targeting actual users rather than algorithms is crucial for your website. Also, your content ,must be well-structured and have quality.
Penguin algorithm:
This algorithm works based on the links. It checks if the website is backed up with strong internal links. The websites working based on this particular algorithm establish themselves as credible resources. This algorithm checks the following parameters:
The number of purchased links
Bad links mean links from the spammy websites
Non-fitting links
Links from pages with completely irrelevant content
Google Pirate update:
This particular algorithm works on fighting pirated content. This collects data from the direct complaints of the users with pirated data.
How can you work along with Google algorithms?
SEO services: It is important to optimize your website as per SEO to rank it better and target the right kind of audience.

Optimize your content with the relevant keywords
When writing, make sure you divide your content into small paragraphs to increase the readability of the document.
See what your target audience requires from your content and then produce more of it.
Take the help of a digital marketing agency for your keyword research or you can do it yourself. Relevant keyword research is the first step for any strategy to bring up Google rankings. You must know how your audience is finding you online and then optimize your content as per the guidelines.
Use links: using backlinks from high domain authority sites will benefit your ranking.
Digital marketing: Though not directly, digital marketing services can facilitate to improve your search engine rankings. With social media, email, blogs, etc. you can increase traffic on your website which will amplify your google ranking.
If you are unsure of how to deploy the services, you can hire a seo agency that will assist in using its services to improve the rankings.
Myths about Google algorithms:
Negative SEO services are important for ranking in Google- using bad techniques to damage the competitor’s rankings
You should optimize your SEO for a particular metric
Too many links can damage your Google ranking
Google's algorithms change roughly 500 times a year, which makes it difficult for any business to keep track of them. Hence, it is beneficial to hire a digital marketing agency that will help in creating strategies as per Google algorithms and regulations.
To analyze, plan, and market.
Happy marketing!

LOL, I fookin LIED🤡
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Don’t you feel like there’s been a constant shifting of aenergies lately? I haven’t been able to focus on precisely ONE single thing since the last Full Harvest Moon in Aries! Feelings, thoughts and emotions, as well as focus and priorities keep changing for the life of me! I think we’re collectively transcending and transforming the core of our beingness and habits… our ways of Life. So, ultimately, I think we will all be fine🍒🍀✨
In my last Oracle Alchemy on Patreon, I mentioned that the next series of PAC that was supposed to be Destined Person readings, was gonna be postponed and instead I wrote that I was going publish first a series of PAC on money, luck and manifestation. At that time, I couldn’t focus on Destined Person readings at all and it felt like the cosmic aenergies wanted me to prioritise readings on career and manifestation. Well, clown on me. I haven’t even finished Part 1 of that series and the aenergy had already shifted back to what was originally planned🤣
I’m sorry if I’m not making too much sense right now but basically, please expect a reading on 🍷Scent of Your Destined Person very soon some time this week🎉YAY!! The readings on money luck and manifestation are coming after all three Destined Person readings are published🍨
On another note, I also wrote on my side blog that I was going to resume daily readings on the last New Moon. Well, that didn’t happen🤡Seriously, I’ve been so spiritually all over the place I haven’t got it in me to channel readings properly🤣So on that note, I’ll do my best to resume daily readings on the next New Moon!✌🏻🦋🌈I’m putting all my faith in the upcoming Full Hunter’s Moon in Taurus to help me feel more secure and balanced in the material aspects of my Life😔
On that note, I’m confident this upcoming Full Moon will help me heaps in terms of changing my dietary habits… Y’know, Taurus rules over the throat and kitchen business LMAO I’m naturally skinny AF and don’t particularly struggle with ED of any kind, but I do realise now that my body is incredibly sensitive to certain types of harmful chemicals in our modern foods… If we could still call these things… foods at this point.
My fairy body can’t seem to digest well a lot of Human foods hahah Basically, I guess what I’m saying is that I’m learning to eat foods that would be good for my mental health so that I become subsequently less prone to anxieties and burnouts. I think foods are definitely related to healthy and balanced productivity🍱I’ll be learning all that for the rest of the year!
I hope you get to eat delicious foods that are good for both your mental and physical bodies!🍯Thanks for reading this far and lastly, happy Scorpio season!🦂
This is MY season MU HA HA HA Expect a lot of awesome content all through the rest of the year! v^o^/

Yep, time for another Storm Hawks OC Redesign, this one focusing on Princess Dayna's Arachnian bodyguard, Alita, who finally has a body I am highly proud of.  This one has been a long time coming because, at the time, I couldn't really draw spider legs( Plus I am an Arachnophobe and didn't want to look at real life spiders to learn how to draw spider legs, yet I like fictional spiders, mainly because they're designed not to induce fear in children and babies like me) but now I can thanks to using the Colonel's legs as reference, though it did take some trial and error. So, allow me to officially present Alita, Princess Dayna's Arachnian bodyguard!!( And I should note that I kinda took the Arachnian name from DA user Cirago who has a really awesome Arachnian OC called Goss who is a part of a squadron called The Windwolves and I highly suggest checking it out) Here's a mini bio about her( She will get a full bio eventually, but I did use and updated the old one from the group art) Before training to become a royal guard, 10 year old Alita often came to Terra Amour to visit her father, Vito, who was Dayna's original bodyguard. Because of these visits, she befriended Dayna and would often spend with her and Vito during her visits. However, after her dad died from a Cyclonian Commander while protecting both Princess Dayna & Alita from a surprise attack, Alita vowed to take up his mantle as Princess Dayna's bodyguard and to protect her at all cost. It took her a few years, but when 20 year old Alita finally became apart of the royal guard and was assigned to protect Princess Dayna. However, after Amour fell into Cyclonia's hands a year into her duty, Alita was forced to go to Cyclonia with Princess Dayna and made to sleep in the dungeons due to trying to fight back( It didn't help that she was verbally harassed by Talon Guards do to her species being seen as a fear inducing race). She thought she had failed to continue her father's legacy. That was until the Raptors caused a huge fight with the Talons and escaped with Princess Dayna, this gave Alita a chance to escape while Cyclonia dealt with the Raptors betrayal. She managed to obtain a ride and traveled to Terra Bogaton to saved Princess Dayna, which turned out to be unnecessary due to Dayna making peace with the Raptors( It did lead to Alita jumping off her ride to tackle Leugey and giving Hoerk some scars during their fight). And now with the Raptors alliance and being ordered to stay on Bogaton for Princess Dayna's protection, Alita continues her duty as bodyguard as well as helping the Raptors despite not completely trusting them. Now if you look at Alita's body, you'll notice that she doesn't have boobs, and I did that intentionally since I don't personally like putting boobs on creatures that shouldn't scientifically or physically have them, it's a big no for me. So that leans into the question of how can I make her look female without putting obvious boobs on her? And the answer is simple, make her facial markings resemble makeup. They did it for Tigress in Kung Fu Panda, so why not do it for Alita.( And yes, I admit that with Alita's first design, I kinda copied the Colonel's markings and put them onto Alita without any thought, but that was before I made her body) Along with adding fang like markings to give her a more fearful appearance, and a nod to actual spider fangs. Here clothes aren't that special as they are the standard green and silver guard uniform of Amour that have been modified a bit to fit Alita's unique body. The medal pinned to her uniform actually belonged to her dad, which is why it has those tears. And her sword(which to be honest looks more like a real life medieval sword then the ones in the show) doesn't necessarily have any importance other then having a basic green Striker crystal that every guard in Amour has. And so, that's Alita's redesign, I'm pretty proud of how well she turned out, especially her legs, they look so good. As well as the glowing effect on her sword, it looks just like how the weapons in the show glow when the crystals are used. Hopefully I'll be able to upload her full bio eventually.   And so I think that's it, tell me what you think.

5 Ways SEO & Web Design Go Together
5 Ways SEO & Web Design Go Together
Do you feel while your website is user-friendly, appealing, and updated still there is no increase in the number of people visiting your site?
It must be because your website is not optimized for SEO. And there is no point in developing a website when people cannot find it in search results.
You cannot have a great website and lack in SEO or have a better SEO with outdated web design. SEO and Web design go hand in hand. So you can approach a Web designing company for these services.
So how are SEO and web designing connected? Check out the 5 ways.
Mobile Friendliness
Research shows, over half of the website traffic comes from mobile devices. Therefore search engines consider mobile-friendly sites to rank higher.
Therefore to reach a larger audience you should optimize your site for mobile phones.
Website Speed
All the pages in your site should load instantly otherwise it will impact your user experience and visitors will go off your site. Devote your time to remove unnecessary plugins, optimize images, and so on.
According to the research, 88% of the visitors click off the site that has a poor user experience.
User Friendly
Content strategy is an essential part of SEO so you should present the content from the point of view of your readers. Your content should be user-friendly so that your audience will not go off the page.
Images that take a long time to load, too many hyperlinks, text that is difficult to read against the background are some of the examples of bad website design.
Site Map
A sitemap is the structure of your website that helps search engines to crawl and index. A good site map will help you rank higher thereby increasing the site traffic.
After creating proper content, you should land your website visitors at the right place, by internal linking that makes sense to you.
Engaging and Fresh Content
You should create fresh and informative content to rank higher on search results. Google algorithm Panda looks for fresh, lengthy, and informative content.
If your content is short then it is assumed that you have copied it from somewhere else. You should update the content to show Google that your website is alive.
Final Thought
You cannot choose between SEO and Web design. They both are important aspects to rank on search results and one cannot go without the other. Hence SEO is done in partnership with Web design.

UPDATE
You guys!! There aren't many of you but I still love you all so very much! I'm very happy to say that I think I have finally started the process of a slow recovery. I have a .much better relationship with food and my body. I want to share this with you all because I hope I can give some helpful tips that I've learned over the past month.
1. FOOD IS NOT BAD FOR YOU. For the longest time, I would hate myself for feeling hungry and eating. After a meal, big or small, I would always feel guilt for having eaten while being a size 14 and having a double chin. I'm a big social media user (like I spend a lot of time on social media) and I started seeing these instagram posts that were more about promoting a healthy relationship with food as one of the first steps to recovery from an ED. It really has helped to be like, "I ate 3 oreos and that's okay!" Or one of my favorite snacks is stuffed jalapeños, and it's so freeing to just have a heathier relationship with food and realize that you don't have to deprive yourself of the foods you love.
2. NUTRITION IS KEY. Y'all I am the absolute worst when it comes to nutrition. I have sticky notes around my dorm saying, "Laxative tea and popcorn is not a meal," because for the longest time, that's what I ate. Recently, I've tried to make the effort to cut out some unnecessary carbs that I felt like I wouldn't miss, I'm trying to not drink any soda, and I've tried to incorporate more healthy fats and fruits into my diet. I haven't noticed any physical changes yet, but I will say it has greatly improved my mental health just by knowing that I'm moving in the right direction. And this doesn't mean you can't eat your favorite foods! I still love my filthy chai latte from Starbucks and my orange chicken and fried rice from Panda Express, I just don't eat them as much anymore, and I've been getting smaller portions. The thought that you are heading in the right direction really does help along the way.
3. DON'T BE UPSET IF YOU CAN'T SEE IMMEDIATE RESULTS. This is another one that I'm really bad at. I'm very impatient, and while I can't see anything with my eyes, I'm noticing my clothes are starting to for better or they're even becoming loose. Results will not be immediate, and that's okay!
4. EXERCISE. I did not realize how much of an impact exercise would have on my mental health. It's kind of like the nutrition thing in that I know I'm making progress and actively trying to change my habits. Doing at least 30 minutes of some sort of aerobics a day has really helped my mental state, and I'm sure my physical state has benefitted from it as well!
5. REMEMBER YOUR WORTH. This is pretty straightforward. I've been struggling a lot with self-worth lately, and it's been dragging me down, not gonna lie. This is another message I've been putting up on sticky notes around my room. Your size does not determine your worth. You ARE worthy of love!!

Casualties and Survivors
CHAPTER 1: AIRPORT LOUNGES AND FIDGETING LEGS
The romanticisation of airports has made life more difficult for travellers. It has permitted such overwhelming, not to mention unnecessary, public display of affection that inconveniences those who just want to methodically get from one country to another. Case in point are the hipster lovers who refused to detach their lips from each other, causing quite a ruckus at the drop-off lane. The already noise-polluted terminal air got more chaotic as several cab drivers started honking and yelling expletives at the tanned brunette and her blond lover.
“These young people know no manners anymore, aist!” Mr. Yang expressed his irritation as he scratched the side of his head. Brett wanted to give a cheeky response but he caught himself in fear of being given a proper lecture. Showing your dad how sassy your mouth is on a terribly hot day is a formula for disaster, and Brett knew well enough not to further rile-up his dad when his Chinese accent has already come through. Besides, he was just 30 seconds away from getting out of his dad’s 1997 Toyota Corolla. Might as well keep his thoughts to himself.
“Bretty boy, where is Eddy, huh?” his dad asked as he parked the car on an open drop-off spot and turned on the hazard light. Brett unlocked the passenger’s seat and began collecting his things while responding “he’s probably near. He told me his mom wanted to personally see him leave, unlike the last time we went on tour.” Mr. Yang helped Brett carry his luggage to the curb and onto a trolley before giving his son a hug.
“Now you go with my blessing. Be very good and kind, especially to Eddy. Call your mom from time to time, okay?”
“I will, dad. Thanks again for dropping me off. You should go back to the car before security decides to clamp your tire”
“Aist! I’m an old man, they should show respect!” Mr. Yang scratched the side of his head once more before going back to his car. Brett waved a final goodbye before he pushed his trolley towards the entrance. Once inside, Brett brought out his phone to check-up on Eddy.
“Bro, where you at? I’m already in line for security”
“Bro, please don’t kill me but I’m going to have to take the next flight out tomorrow morning. My sister went into labor five minutes after I left my house. We had to go back home to fetch her because no one else could drive her to the hospital. So now I’m here with Ma and we’re rushing to Queen Elizabeth’s” Eddy explained.
“It’s been 9 months already!? Damn, I totally forgot that Belle was pregnant” Brett slapped himself in the forehead.
“Dude…how could you have forgotten? Have you seen her tummy? It’s like she swallowed Pluto just after NASA announced it’s no longer a planet”
“I fucking heard that Eddy Chen!” Belle’s voice erupted in the background, prompting Brett to move his phone away from his ear.
“I’m sorry” Brett heard Eddy whisper to his sister. “Just hang in there, we’re about 10 minutes away from the ER. Now shush”
“Anyway, bro, so yeah. I’m really sorry about this” Eddy said.
“No worries! Just be there for your sister. Also, tell Belle I said goodluck! Wait, is that the appropriate thing to say to someone who’s about to give birth?”
“I’m not really sure but I think that kinda works. Update me when you’ve landed, alright? Don’t have too much fun without me. Also, practice!” Eddy said before hanging up.
Brett gave a small chuckle as he pocketed his phone. Leave it to Eddy to still be roasting his sister while she’s already in labor. The man’s sense of humour and quick wit are truly remarkable, not to mention unparalleled. Even Brett recognises the indispensable role of Eddy’s creativity in the growth of their channel. He concedes that most of the comedic content in their videos are products of Eddy’s ingenuity. There’s never a dull moment when Eddy’s around, and that’s why Brett is slightly disappointed that he would have to fly solo in his trip to the States. Just thinking about the long hours of sitting down and getting arse cramps every hour or so is already enough to bring Brett to a state of despair. Country hopping is fun, going from one city to another is too, but the actual travel is what really takes a toll on Brett’s energy and mood. He hates every single minute of it, especially the long wait in the airport. There are always way too many people, way too much noise, and way too much walking to do. He’s a musician, for Pete’s sake. His physical activities are limited to five minute walks (usually less since he spends most of his time indoors anyway) and the occasional Lingling workouts that push him over the edge. Just getting through security was enough for him to break a sweat.
After passing through the first round of metal detectors and the x-ray machines, Brett proceeded to the check-in counter of Qantas. It was a long wait before his turn so he decided to check on the ticket sales of their tour. Only two performances in the last city in their itinerary have not sold out yet, but he’s positive that it will eventually. TwoSet’s popularity suddenly grew during the first two weeks of January which the pair did not really expect. The abrupt spike in the number of views per video, not to mention reaching 2 million subscribers much earlier than expected, made the duo ecstatic and grateful beyond words. But their growing fame was a double-edged sword for it meant more work for both of them. It didn’t help that Eddy made a promise to their fans that once the channel reached 2 million subs, Brett would drop his Tchaikovsky recording. And so he had less than a month to perfect the popular piece before he finally performed it during the livestream they did last February. More than a million of the Lingling wannabes from all over the world watched him play the same piece he performed during his debut in 2012. It was nerve wracking, but it was pretty exciting too. Performing for his fans have always brought Brett so much joy, and he will gladly do it until the time when he physically can’t anymore.
“Sir? Please” the voice of the ground stewardess urging Brett to come forward to the counter broke his stupor.
“Sorry” Brett apologised as he handed his ticket. He was loading his luggage on the counter when he heard a pleading voice at the counter next to his. He decided to get a glimpse at the commotion, noting how disheveled and desperate the woman looked and how equally impatient the ground stewardess was becoming. Brett then abruptly withdrew his stare when he and the woman accidentally caught each other’s eyes. Brett continued to load his luggage so it won’t seem too obvious that he was eavesdropping.
“I’ll take any open seat. Please” the woman begged. The fatigue in the woman’s voice was evident, and Brett could not  help wondering if she was hungover or she just came from baby-sitting seven toddlers all at once.
“I’m sorry, madame. But so far the flight is fully booked. If you want, there’s another plane coming in at noon. I can book that for you” the passenger service crew explained.
“No, no. That would be too late. But please, if ever an opening comes up, please do notify me. I’ll give you my number” the woman said as she started scribbling on the piece of paper that the lady behind the counter gave.
“Mr. Yang, here are your boarding pass and your luggage tag. By the way, you received an upgrade courtesy of the airlines. You can use the Business Class lounge while waiting for your flight” the lady smiled at him as she handed Brett everything he needed. Upgrade? Brett thought to himself. That’s weird, specially since the other lady just said the flight’s fully booked.
“That’s generous, thank you” Brett said gratefully. “Oh, by the way, my friend Eddy Chen was supposed to fly with me but he won’t be able to make it because of a family emergency” he added before leaving the counter. Brett internally cringed at what he just did. He knew for a fact that the airline could not possibly use that information. They had protocols to follow when it came to cancellations. Aside from that, it was a really random thing to do.
Well, not random. Brett thought. You just wanted to help the panda-eyed woman without being to obvious. Damn she was tired. And damn, was I really obvious though.
Brett decided to shrug off that awkward incident by texting Eddy while he walked towards the lounge. He did not get any reply right away so he figured that his best friend was probably still attending to his sister. Upon arriving at the lounge and finding a spot to sit in, Brett decided to do some work. After he finished, he went to the bar to get something to drink and eat. He was munching on his crisps when he got a text from Eddy.
Bro, update our fans. Was supposed to do it but I totally forgot. And I reckon they’re not really interested in seeing a bloody head emerge between my sister’s legs yeah?
Jfc Eddy, you could’ve spared me the mental image. But yeah, yeah. I’ll do it.
Brett opened their instagram account and started going live. He once again thanked their fans for all the support they have shown, and then proceeded to update them about why Eddy was not with him at the moment. He was doing a mini Q&A when it was announced on the PA system that his flight is going to start boarding passengers in 15 minutes. Brett bid their fans goodbye, pocketed his phone, and left the bar to go back to where he sat before. He was ten steps away from his seat when he noticed that someone else was occupying the chair near the window. It was the same woman from the other counter, the one who was desperately pleading for a ticket.
Lucky her. I guess she did get what she needed after all. Brett muttered to himself as he sat himself in the sofa facing the woman. He placed his violin on his left and his carry-on luggage on the floor before bringing his eyes back to the girl near the window. She was holding a book open in front of her, though it appeared that she wasn’t really reading it. Her hazel eyes stared blankly at the pages of Sara Borjas’ Heart Like A Window, Mouth Like A Cliff as she bit on her left thumb.
Is she nervous? Brett wondered as he continued observing her.
He brought his eyes to her hair and noticed how it was haphazardly wrapped around a bun on top of her head, and it seemed like it would unravel itself at any moment. She was pale for a person who lived in Australia (summer is just about to end after all), but her cheeks had a little bit of red in them.
Is she ill? Has she just cried? Brett pondered. He continued staring at her as if she was a specimen in a laboratory.
Brett noticed that her right leg, which was crossed over her left, would not stop fidgeting. It would slow down from time to time but the shaking did not cease. Sometimes her free hand would slide down to her lap and she would start tapping it in sync with her fidgeting leg. There were instances when she’d bring her head up from her book and her eyes would almost lock with Brett’s, but he was quick enough to avert his stare whenever she was on the verge of moving her head. It was as if they were playing a game of hide and seek, except that no one was really seeking because only one was playing and he wasn’t even playing it well. He was just there, in plain sight, in open space, staring and ogling with no particular purpose. Just staring. And wondering.
Like a creep. Aist. Brett huffed as he realised how wrong it was to be people watching. Well, not people watching in general. Just the one. More aptly put, person watching. Or stalking he thought if I’m going to be honest with myself.
Brett’s slow descent into his own thoughts was interrupted once again by the PA system. His flight number was called, and its passengers were informed that they were to board in Gate C7. Since Brett got an upgrade into business class, he had the privilege of being accommodated first. Not to mention not having to walk all the way to Gate C7 because the airline lounge had a direct jet bridge that connected to the Boeing 787-9 which would carry hundreds of passengers from Brisbane straight to New York. Brett collected his things and walked towards the airline staff who collected his boarding pass and assisted him to the plane. He was greeted by the plane crew once he entered, and was directed to his seat.
“Would you like me to put that away for you?” The stunning flight attendant gestured to his violin.
“Would it be possible for me to keep it on my side?” He asked.
“Of course, Sir. I’ll just fetch some straps to keep it in place. I’ll be right back. Make yourself comfortable” she smiled before leaving for the cabin.
Brett immediately took a selfie and posted it on instagram. He messaged Eddy about the upgrade and teased the latter of leaving the duo to become a soloist. Eddy immediately replied with a picture of him with tears in his eyes. This made Brett laugh but also feel a twinge of melancholy at the same time because bantering with his best mate was way better in person than doing it digitally. Moreover, Brett started engaging in creepy recreational activities because of Eddy’s absence, and it was so out of character for him that he gave an internal scream.
Thank god that’s over Brett told himself as he inhaled deeply and settled himself in the plush window seat. He sent last minute text messages to his friends and family before he turned off his phone.
“Excuse me sir, here are the straps for your violin” the flight attendant from earlier returned with a pair of 13 inch black straps which she handed to Brett. He gave a slight nod and mouthed a thank you while receiving the straps. He then  proceeded to secure his violin to the side. Brett was about to close his eyes when the woman from the lounge entered and stopped at the chair beside him. She whispered something to the flight attendant who was assisting her before she took her seat.
Not again. Brett muttered to himself as he once again stared intently at the woman. He couldn’t take his eyes off her and he did not know why. She wasn’t exactly a head turner, but she had this aura about her that piqued Brett’s curiosity.
Curiosity. That’s it, I’m curious. That’s exactly the reason why I can’t look away. Brett thought.
There’s a story, surely there’s a story behind those tired hazel eyes. There must be because no one looked like that, like she carried the weight of the entire world on her shoulders, but at the same time radiate (but only minutely) a different, more positive energy.
Independence?
Brett guessed.
Gratitude?
Fulfilment?
Success?
It’s like he was playing charades with Eddy again, only this time the other person was a complete stranger and he can’t communicate, much more confirm, his guesses. He looked at her more intensely as he searched for more clues about the type of person that she was. First, he looked at her hands to check if she might have callouses similar to his. She had some, but it was on the wrong places. She was not a musician. Maybe she was a writer, or an architect. Brett was not able to come up with a proper conclusion as to her profession, but he decided that whatever she did had something to do with using her hands.
Second, he considered what she was wearing. She was just wearing tight jeans, black boots, and a plain knitted white sweater. She had no accessories nor any other apparel that would help her battle the weather once they land in New York.
Unless she has one in her carry-on. But I highly doubt that. Brett thought. He did not see her with any luggage at the check-in counter, nor in the lounge. She only had a big tote bag with her which she also declined to be placed in the overhead compartment. Brett inferred that this trip was a product of spontaneity, or panic. It really could go either way. But what was obvious was she did not plan this through.
Brett slowly lifted his sights up to study her face once more. But what happened next caused him to feel a rush of blood to his cheeks. She was staring at him. She saw him staring at him. And now their eyes were locked at each other and Brett did not know what to do.
Fuck.

Things I would add to Minecraft in no particular order.
Heya! Jennikku here, obviously. And I’m just here to talk about shit I would add to Minecraft just because I think it’s neat or I think is worth expansion. I’ve been thinking a lot about how I would change Minecraft if I was one of the devs so like, yeah, in no certain order here’s things I would adjust, add and change about Minecraft
1. Brown/Grizzly Bears
We have polar bears and panda bears in Minecraft, but we don’t have any of the classic ‘brown’ bears. It seems a little odd to me that we have these two different sorts of bears, and yet no ‘normal’ counterpart. And, with Bees, and by extension, honey, likely being added into this new upcoming update, it just makes sense that Bears would come a-Stompin! I imagine Grizzlies would behave pretty similarly to Polar Bears, and would spend most of their time looking for food. Grizzlies naturally attack any Salmon or Beehive they see the way a wolf will hunt sheep, or a fox/ocelot will hunt chickens and are neutral to the player as long as they keep their distance or the player isn’t near to any one of their cubs. Maybe even like turtles, bears could naturally inhabit caves and have a ‘home’ cave they return to reproduce or go to at the end of every day.
2. Swamp-exclusive mobs
I think swamps need to be a little more swampy. It seems kind of silly to me that wetlands are some of the most diverse biomes on Earth, and yet there’s nothing to populate the murky depths of swamps. Alligators/Crocodiles, Snapping Turtles, Frogs, just something to make the swamps a little more interesting or a little more dangerous to explore! Maybe even a new spider or creeper variant similar to the way husks and strays are an exclusive zombie and skeleton types for desert and snow biomes?
3. Expansion of existing foods, new crops, and manufactured food
I think perhaps new crop types are an order given that we’ve had the same ones for a pretty long time now, and I firmly believe that existing foods are worth expansion.
For instance, the state of baked goods in Minecraft is pretty dull. Most of the baked goods are about nigh useless, apart from maybe Pumpkin Pie. If we can craft one type of pie, why can’t we craft others? Like, for instance, Apple Pie? We have apples in the game that aren’t used for many recipes outside of one (extremely expensive) late-game food, so why not try to give apples a use for early or midgame players? Or, how about we bake some of our new sweet berries into a pie? It’s not like we’re using berries for much else in-game!
Oh and, while we’re here, shouldn’t we be able to place pies the way we place cakes? Think about how cool it could be to leave a pie sitting out the way a cake does, it’d be great for little suburban home builds with warm pies sitting in the windows, bakery and other cafe or restaurant-type builds, or just convenience for a group of people or solo players who want to come home and munch on some pie.
I’d personally like to see chocolate added to Minecraft as well, the fact that we have cocoa beans but not chocolate seems kind of odd to me personally, although I understand it is sort of a left-field addition.
I would REALLY like to see a way to cook eggs if I’m honest, but maybe that’s just me? I understand if this seems like a cheap source of food given the inherent frequency of how and when chickens lay eggs.
I also think soups need to be expanded in the game. The fact we have pumpkins but not pumpkin soup is a crime against humanity. I know pumpkins are already used in the recipe for pumpkin pie, but, I enjoy variety with my crops. And besides, if wheat and sugar cane can have versatility as crops, why not pumpkins? I’d also really like to see another kind of meat stew (besides rabbit stew anyway, rabbits are kind of rare in my playtime experience.) or a vegetable stew of some sort added to the game. Fact is, players don’t get many opportunities to craft soups in the game, and I think adding some new soups could help that!
I’d also kinda like to see a new veggie or maybe even a mushroom added to game, as I feel the pickings are pretty slim there, turnips come to mind in terms of a new veggie, just something to round out the existence of carrots, potatoes, and beetroot, and for mushrooms, I’d actually kinda like to see truffles added to the game. Maybe you could use pigs to hunt them, and use them to breed Zombie Pigmen in the nether, or make them friendly toward you? I dunno, I think there’s an idea there.
4. Baby Creepers and Baby Spiders
Every other common monster has baby counterparts, except for Creepers and Spiders. While this may seem like a ‘no why would you do that’ sort of thing, what’s wrong with a little bit of a new challenge here and there? Plus, baby creepers could deal less damage and explode in a smaller radius than adults, while Baby Spiders could have way less health (maybe you could even kill them by stepping on them?). And, come on, don’t tell me you’re not enthralled by the idea of a tiny creeper or tiny spider doing little high-pitched hisses.
Oh, and, I think Creepers should be able to wear helmets. No other armor piece, just helmets.
5. A way to obtain specific player heads without using commands in Creative Mode.
This speaks for itself honestly. I have wanted to use custom heads for my builds SO many times, but I find spawning them in incredibly tedious and annoying.
6. Updating/Varying Temples and other archaic pre-generated structures
We have sprawling Ocean Monuments and Mansions and more organic and believable villages now, I think it’s time some of the older temples got an update too, or at least the ability to vary a little more and look more ruinous?
7. Horse-drawn carts or carriages.
While I feel like this is kind of unnecessary given that most equine mobs can just carry chests, a way to transport your fellow players, as well as larger stocks of items across a large distance using a horse or donkey seems like a novel idea to me. Perhaps you could link up carts/carriages with leads to make your epic caravan even bigger!
8. Expansion of the Nether
The Nether isn’t really very scary anymore, and it’s fucking UNINTERESTING! I feel like the Nether could benefit from individual biomes or perhaps more unique structures? Perhaps a hellish-looking forest biome full of dead trees, Soul-sand lava beaches, zombie pigman villages, gnarly giant mushroom biomes, nether outposts with loot guarded by blazes and wither skeletons, unfinished portals, Nether dungeons with skeleton or blaze spawners and more exclusive loot, I dunno! Just something to make the Nether scarier and less barren!
9. Cave/Mining Expansion
Given that everyone and their grandma has already said the caves need an update, I’ll keep it short and sweet:
Caves are boring and uninteresting, we’ve been looking at the same caves for too damn long. Add more unique cave types, more minerals, and above all, more REASONS to mine! The game’s called MINECRAFT? Y’know, you MINE things in it?
10. A use for Dragon Eggs
I don’t care what it is, let us make dragon omelets, re-fight the Ender Dragon in the overworld, cool potions, just let me do SOMETHING with this egg, Mojang, I’m sick of feeling like it has some mysterious higher purpose!
11. Giant Flowers
Okay this one’s more personal but, I think it’d be kinda cool if we could grow giant flowers the same way we grow giant mushrooms. That is all.

Logan woke up first.
He rubbed his face, not changing his position just yet. He noticed that the room’s ceiling was red, with baby pink clouds floating along. Perhaps this reflected on the weather outside, or the sunrise? Either way, it was pretty.
He sat up, putting his glasses on fluidly. Patton was still fast asleep, light snores drifting  from against the bean bag he was spooning. The Child seemed to be a rambunctious sleeper, as his legs were bent over the bed’s edge, blanket covering his face.
He hadn’t forgotten their revelations from the previous night, not at all, and a small, content sigh escaped his lips when he saw that both of his companions were asleep sound. It was a well deserved rest.
According to his internal clock, it was definitely past sunrise, a fair 7:12 a.m. It occured to Logan that “after sunrise” was the most nondescript timestamp he could have placed on their reunion with Deceit and Virgil, but he didn’t have the energy yet to worry about that. After all, he doesn’t function well without coffee. He also should have been concerned about the Artist downstairs. Surely he has to sleep, too, though? And it was unlikely he’ll attempt violence this early in the morning.
Most important, however, is the fact that Logan needs coffee.
Carefully, he stepped around Patton towards the door, taking his cloak with him. He took care to move slow down the stairs, letting the wooden steps creak slowly instead of in loud snaps.
The ground floor hadn’t changed since the previous night. Paintings and art equipment were still strewn about in an organizational method probably only understood by the Artist himself. The man in question was splayed out on what seems to be a small couch — in front of the easel from last night. Along with that, the stool had disappeared. It wasn’t a healthy practice, but Logan had to admit that it was efficient to simply change one seat for another as bedtime rolled around.
Coffee time.
He walked around the couch, still careful about his footsteps, and entered the kitchen. There was a coffee machine in the corner that Logan immediately put to use. Now, with a warm mug in his hands, he squinted around at the setting.
He should make breakfast for everyone. He had the time, and food would greatly sustain himself, Patton, and probably the Child for their future endeavors. Perhaps the Artist would also enjoy a meal? Yes, the Artist reportedly doesn’t like them, but it would be against Logan’s nature to take that sort of statement at face value without running his own experiments.
First, he had to know what he had to work with. Logan opened the refrigerator — why were there modern appliances in a medieval setting? He would have to ask….someone — and found it sparse but useable. There was a full carton of eggs, and milk.
After water testing each egg, Logan set a pan over one of the stove burners. He would have to ask about consistency in setting because, um, a stove? He wasn’t about to not use it, but he was judging the “historical accuracy” that the Playwright had harped about.
Speaking of the Playwright. Logan leaned on the counter with his butt and took the Playwright’s book out of his jacket pocket. In all of last night’s hassle, he’d forgotten to check the “Author’s Notes” section, and there had to have been even more updates since then. He nearly flipped the cover on instinct but a distinct golden glow caught his eye.
The ribbon decal was still adorned on the front, though it was noticeably less impactful than the golden circle in the center. The sun of Roman’s crest. The Child. Logan ran his thumb over it, watching as it actually exuded a warm yellow glow around his finger. If Logan was still willing to trust the Playwright’s explanation, then that meant they’d won the Child over. That he trusted them.
He squinted at the cover. The ribbon was a divot in the cover, like leather pressing. Probably to mark the book, maybe even to fool the Sides into letting him go without argument.
Even lighter on the cover, though, was the outline of the crest. The leather was a dark red color, but closer to the center was a lighter red, more matching of Roman’s sash, and there was a light indentation marking where the crest’s border would be. Perhaps it was because they had met more figments? Or maybe Virgil and Deceit had met with another part enough to make a mark? Either option was promising.
The former seemed to be the case, because the Table of Contents had extended to include….multiple more Romans. It seemed that Virgil and Deceit had been busy. Below the Playwright and the Author Notes was now “The Child,” “The Thief,” “The Artist,” “The Bard,” “The Dragon,” and “The Damsel.” That was all seven. Transfixed, he began flipping to “The Dragon.”
There were bullet pointed notes, but no sketch like there had been for the Playwright. Perhaps it would update with more once they’d found him.
“- Lives in the castle
- Wants to kill everyone
- Would not hesitate (bitch)
- Captured and tortured Damsel
- I cannot stress this enough — DO NOT ENGAGE”
Logan raised an eyebrow. A villain. A very cliche villain, too, given that he was a dragon. He wasn’t necessarily inclined to trust the Playwright’s warnings, though. Surely there wasn’t really a form of Roman who would want to kill all of them? Perhaps throttle, but not murder.
“You’re not Teacher Dude, are you?”
Logan nearly dropped the book. He snapped it shut and whirled around, ascot flapping into his face. The Artist stood in the kitchen’s entry, sleep still evident in his eyes behind the same glasses Logan wore. He squinted at Logan as though daring him to lie.
Which, of course, he did. Logan straightened his posture and fixed his outfit, carefully sliding the book back into his jacket pocket. “I am. Cur of you to say that,” the Teacher Dude smiled, right? He was a little more of a funny man. Logan smiled.
The Artist winced. “You sure as hell aren’t an actor. Dad Guy wakes up first. Teacher Guy’s has a trash sleep schedule, since he procrastinates on grading papers. You’re Logic.”
Logan….supposed that was valid. He didn’t know enough about the Teacher’s character to refute that claim. He cleared his throat and turned back to the pan, beginning to crack the eggs for the scramble.
Hang on. Was his smile that unnatural?
The Artist took his silence as a yes. He nodded to the coffee machine. “Mind if I take some of that?”
Logan nodded, stepping away from the machine. “Of course.”
The Artist nodded back and began fixing himself a mug. He stood beside Logan, who pushed the half-cooked eggs around the pan in an effort to maintain some air of regularity. He only felt a little awkward, considering the Child’s warnings and the yelling match he had with Playwright the night prior.
It didn’t seem that the Artist cared, though. After he poured himself coffee, he stayed in the kitchen, leaning on the counter and watching Logan cook.
“The Child brought you, right?” The Artist sipped his coffee, watching Logan’s shoulders hike up when he spoke.
“Yes. He did,” Logan said.
“So Padre’s upstairs, too.”
“Yes,” Logan exhaled slowly, “Do you want any breakfast?”
The Artist looked at the eggs. Logan really just made them breakfast, huh?
“I don’t eat. We don’t need to,” he looked back up at Logan’s face, squinting, “Wouldn’t that be illogical?”
Logan raised an eyebrow. Okay. Maybe he was a little scared, but Logan wouldn’t pass up an opportunity to point  out that he was being a petty baby.
“Well,” the Artist rolled his eyes as Logan began to explain. “Roman typically eats meals with us, so everyone maintains an even circadian rhythm. While unnecessary in the literal sense, breaking from that routine has likely damaged your stamina, resulting in phantom hunger cramps. My current hypothesis is that that’s what you’re feeling, or….that you don’t want to eat because I’m here.”
There, he said it. Logan could see the hostility in the Artist’s eyes. There was more, something heavier and deeper, probably a nuance he wasn’t picking up on, but the bitterness was indisputable. Or was it simply sadness? Nevermind that.
The feeling in his chest was tight now, not like the fluttering he’d pondered last night. This was more upsetting. It felt like the thing gripping his lungs had a tighter hold, almost threatening. Why was this such a surprise? He knew that the Artist didn’t like him. He should stop developing preconceived opinions of these different Romans, because it wouldn’t benefit him if he continued entering these situations with fallacious speculations.
The Artist averted his gaze, and then turned around. A quiet concession, it seemed. He opened the freezer and pulled out a bag of hash brown patties. “I’ll make hash browns,” his voice was low, almost a whisper.
Logan didn’t want to let it go, though. He had to know. “The Child mentioned that you dislike us.”
Oof, maybe he was being too bold, because he winced at his own words. The Artist was also taken aback; he probably didn’t think Logan would bring up the room’s incredible tension.
For a few seconds, they just stared at each other, unsure of how to continue. The Artist recovered first, with a sharp shake of his head. “I don’t,” he said, even quieter.
He opened the bag and took out another pan, heating some oil. Logan took a step back, setting the eggs down on the counter.
“So you do like us? Us being myself and my compatriots.”
“I mean. I don’t not like you,” the Artist began flipping the patties, “Doesn’t mean I like you.”
Logan frowned. “Can you elaborate?”
The Artist cast him a wary glance, then looked back at the hashbrowns. “I’m indifferent. I don’t need you, and you don’t need me, so we’re at a comfortable numbness.”
Comfortable numbness. What was that, a call back? Logan leaned on the wall, watching the Artist cook quietly.
It seemed that the Artist quickly forgot his presence, too, as he began to hum. He flipped the finished patties one by one onto the drying plate. A little airheaded, perhaps? But he had been quite astute earlier. Or maybe Logan just was a really bad actor — he didn’t know. He did know, however, that the tightness in his lungs was softening.
Logan cleared his throat, and the Artist didn’t react. “What are your….plans?”
“Paint,” he responded simply.
“....anything else?” Wow, it was hard getting this one to talk. The Child had been so ready to explain everything to himself and Patton the night prior.
The Artist seemed to consider his question for a second, as though contemplating if it were worth his time. It seemed to be. “Kick you all out. You, Pitterpatt, and Child being here is puts a target on my house, Professor Binns. I would prefer to not draw Dragon’s attention.”
That was understandable. Logan let his shoulders relax — he definitely hadn’t been worried about an argument or actual physical confrontation, given how the biting the Artist had been the night prior — and he followed the Artist in arranging a plate.
They worked in silent tandem, though once the Artist was finished, he set his plate aside and opened the cabinet overhead. He pulled out a toaster, then a loaf of bread, and finally, to Logan’s surprise, a jar of Logan’s berry Crofters jelly.
The Artist caught a glimpse at Logan’s expression and met him with a tired shrug. “It’s a good flavor,” he turned back around once the slices of toast popped up. Logan’s face mustn’t have changed, because the Artist squinted at him again, suspiciously, and added, “What are you, the jelly police? Fuck off.”
Logan blinked, then turned back to the eggs. He stepped back again, now feeling out of his depths as the Artist toasted eight slices of bread and set all but two aside. Those he took for himself, spreading each with a thick layer of jelly. When it looked like he was done, Logan stepped forward, but the Artist just turned toward him with a stoic expression.
“I’m going to start painting. Don’t,” the Artist pointed the spreading knife at Logan, voice dropping to a threatening tone, “Interrupt me. After you’re all done eating, I want you all out of my house.”
It seemed that he really cared about his work. Logan fixed his glasses, lowering the jelly covered knife with his finger.
“Of course,” he said, licking his finger clean of jelly.
Oh, fuck yeah, that was the good shit.
The Artist, happy with his response, nodded and swiveled the knife around. Logan took the handle and they rotated, the Artist walking away to his easel and Logan to his jelly. It occurred to Logan, then, that if he had a question he should ask it now. Before it became a safety hazard to ask.
“Wait.”
The Artist, just about to sit, looked up at him with a frown. “What?”
Logan looked around at the piles upon piles of paintings. They had intrigued him since the night before, but he’d wanted permission before inspecting.
“May I look at your art after breakfast? I assure you that I will not damage any of your works.”
The Artist looked around, too, and pinched his brows. His hands came up to run through his hair.
Logan shifted his weight awkwardly. It was a fairly simple question, but the pregnant pause implied some deeper worry.
Well, it was Logan. While he wasn’t a big fan OF Logan, he and Virgil were the least likely to physically damage them.
He loved Patton, but the man would probably drop a few of them without realizing the damage that’d do to the canvas. And Deceit….he wasn’t a big fan of fake compliments.
On the alternative hand, Logan was most likely to critique them.
The Artist was sure he couldn’t take that. Not right now, not with this ridiculous art block and murder game interfering with his creative process. On any other day, he would be able to bear the brunt of….no, no. He probably couldn’t take any criticism. That sort of mental processing went to another facet of himself.
But, when Logan PRAISED him….it felt like the world. It felt like the sunset casting a warm glow upon the summer’s night. Like a bird training to fly who’d fallen from a nest only to take off and soar. Like glimmering flashes across a lake at sunrise.
Oh, it felt like heaven.
Was it all worth that one possible compliment?
“Sure,” the Artist found himself saying, hands resting on the back of his head, “Knock yourself out.”
Logan frowned. “I assure you, I do not plan on making myself unconscious.”
The Artist waved his hand, suddenly more distracted looking as his eyes flew around between his current work-in-progress and the other paintings. “It means go ahead. I’m going to begin painting. Tell Pat-in-the-Hat and Child not to disturb me.”
He screwed his eyes shut, drew in a breath, and….summoned a sketch pad and pencil. Logan watched as he began repeating the same hand movement over and over across the blank page, an art warm-up.
For a second, he was honestly proud that Roman remembered his suggested warm-ups. He’d been worried, once Roman first took up sketching as a means to jot his ideas down, that the creative side’s erratic nature would mean less self-care, so he researched a few ways to prevent hand cramps when drawing. Adequate art warm-ups was one of those ways and was a way to prevent one’s hand growing stiff.
Well. This whole morning was definitely a shift from the snappy, angry Artist from last night. Logan briefly wondered what the change may have been.
No matter. He should probably eat before engaging in any of the art; he would hate to dirty it. He also didn’t want to get in the Artist’s way. The Artist had just put his plate down beside the stool and immediately begun working, and to be honest, that didn’t bode well for the food. But it was too late for Logan to bring that up, especially with such explicit instructions.
For someone who disliked order, the Artist followed his personalized organizational methods to the dot.
Logan stayed in the kitchen, watching him paint from afar, letting his eyes wander over the other pieces. Slowly, he sat on the ground, crossing his legs and leaning against the wall. It was peaceful
Okay, well, that was interrupted by pounding on the steps above. Logan turned just in time to see Patton peek out from around the stair’s bend, hair still fairly disheveled and glasses lopsidedly resting on his nose.
“Well, good morning!” he said with a grin.
The Artist didn’t react, continuing in his warm-up routine, but Logan waved. “Good morning, Patt,” he said.
“It’s nice to see you, Roman!” the Artist rolled his eyes, but stiffened immensely when Patton hugged him from the side.
He didn’t loosen when Patton let go and moved on to Logan, still leant on the counter, hand resting on his chest, emotional outburst behind him. Patton had hugged him.
“Good mornin’, Logarithm!”
Okay. Logan drew in a small breath. That nickname? “Did you just call me logarithm?” Logan asked, raising an eyebrow.
He was a little astounded that Patton knew what a logarithm was. Patton nodded, still chipper as ever. “Yep! If you write logarithms in their regular, no numbers-form, it’s your name!”
Logan squinted.
Holy fuck.
While Logan ran that pun through his mind, Patton went to the kitchen. “Did you both make breakfast?” he asked, ignoring that Logan was still trying to figure out how he hadn’t discovered his own name-pun and that the Artist hadn’t un-frozen yet from his hug.
Despite the lack of response, Patton continued, making himself a plate. “You’re so sweet! I’m glad you were working together this morning, then!”
Logan smiled a tiny bit. They had worked fairly well, hadn’t they? He stole a glance at the Artist, who was still frozen. He was looking at Patton with a weirdly choked expression, though. A cross between anger and something else.
His eyes flicked down to the Artist’s food, mostly eaten. He must have eaten it while Logan wasn’t paying attention.
“Logie, did you eat?” It seemed that Patton hadn’t noticed how stressed the Artist looked.
“Yes, Patt, I did. Thank you for your concern. I am going to do my and the Artist’s dishes now,” Logan picked up the Artist’s plate from the ground, not looking at him as he took them both to the kitchen. “Has the Child woken up yet?”
Patton shook his head, leaning on the wall behind the counter while Logan began to clean the dishes. “Nope! He’s out like a light!”
He looked over at the Artist, who was still as a statue, and turned back to Logan in a more hushed voice. “Is he okay?” he asked.
Logan glanced at the Artist, then looked back at Patton. “I cannot say. He was fine earlier,” did Logan want to mention that he stiffened only after Patton hugged him?
Yes. It was better to not hide these things. “He hasn’t moved since you hugged him,” Logan whispered, “Maybe he is a touch-averse Roman?”
Immediately, Patton was regretful. Gosh, he hoped he hadn’t upset the Artist. Roman was usually the only Side okay with spontaneous hugs, and he’d been too sleepy to remember that the multiple Roman situation meant every Roman might have different boundaries.
Should he apologize? Probably. That was the good thing to do!
Patton spun back around and walked up to the Artist, who was still frozen. “Sorry for the hug, kiddo,” Patton said, rubbing the back of his head, “I, uh, hope I didn’t paint myself in any bad light!”
The Artist blinked, then looked up at him, mouth pressed into a firm line. Patton actually flinched from the confused anger in his gaze. The pun couldn’t have been that bad. Could it?
He opened his mouth, irritation clearly mounting, but then clamped back down and bit his lip. He looked away, not reacting to Patton’s bewilderment, and simply starred at the painting he’d been working on. It hadn’t been ruined, oh, no, he hadn’t even started yet. His mind had just been abruptly yanked away from the Zone.
“It’s okay,” the Artist spoke through gritted teeth, “I already talked to Delbert Doppler over there. Please leave me to my work.”
Patton stepped back when the Artist extended his hands, conjuring a paintbrush and the palette that they’d seen him using the previous night. And then he set to painting.
It’d be a lie to say Patton wasn’t a little hurt, despite the already-negative impression the Artist had left. But he was hoping that’d been a late-night kind of fluke! A little moment where the Artist was just too tired and stressed! And he’d heard Logan and him working together well earlier….
“Patt,” Logan’s voice drew his attention back to the kitchen.
He was holding a plate fully set with eggs, hash browns, and two lightly-jammed slices of toast. Logan met Patton’s surprised expression with a small smile. “Breakfast?”
“Oh!” Patton took the plate and plastered on a smile. “Thank you, Lo!”
Neither seemed sure of what to do — did either remember the events of last night? After a few awkwardly quiet moments of smiling at each other, Logan cleared his throat and stepped back. “I am going to look around at the paintings that Artist has done. I would recommend staying in here,” he gestured to the kitchen, “As Artist is….fairly serious about not damaging his work. And not being disturbed.”
“Oooh, gotcha. That’s probably why he’s been a lil’ snappy, right?” That made sense in Patton’s mind! If the Artist wanted to not be disturbed, and Patton had unintentionally disturbed him, it made sense that he’d be a little peeved but not too mad or sad. Smad, if you would.
Logan nodded. “Perhaps. Either way, it would be better if we don’t disturb him,” he looked around at the art and picked up the first painting.
While Logan parsed through the different works, Patton sat down cross legged in the kitchen, munching happily on the eggs. Logan must have made them, he really did make the best eggs! The perfect level of juicy and cooked.
….It made him miss Virgil. The routine was to do famILY breakfasts, with Virgil, Patton, Logan, and Roman all sitting around the kitchen table. Patton leaned back on the wall and let out a small exhale. A small part of him wondered if they’d ever get to do that again, if Roman was going to be so changed after this. The Playwright hadn’t actually taken their words into consideration. He didn’t know how much they loved him.
How much Patton loved him.
Because, yeah, he could admit it. Patton was in love with EVERYONE. Virgil, Logan, Roman, even Deceit — it felt like swimming in honey, thick and goopy and wrapping around him in a warm embarrassment whenever Roman yanked him into a dance in the kitchen, or Virgil leaned on him during movie night. Whenever Logan read him a favored part of whatever he was reading, or when Deceit would trade puns and one liners with him.
He was floored, surrounded by this bubbly love that felt like a celebratory champagne.
Probably. It was probably love. Sifting through emotions may have been part of his job description, but that didn’t mean he was good at it. And he didn’t know if anyone felt the same, if anyone loved him back. Logan’d said something the other night, but…. And it wasn’t his job to sift through HIS emotions. Just Thomas’, technically.
Wait, was this just a different take on Thomas’ self-love?
Either way, the fluffiness he felt, the warmth at the tips of his fingers and the tingling in his cheeks when he smiled at seeing his lovely boys….It was nice.
It was all nice.
Just as nice as those paintings.
Logan had peeked through two stacks and found a lot. First, none of them were finished. Whether it simply lacked depth, or was literally half-painted, or only had base colors, none of these paintings were remotely completed. Every single one that Logan had seen was a work in progress.
Beyond that, he’d found multiple scenes of himself and the other Sides. There was one in particular he was….quite fond of, in all honesty. He’d looked it over for a few minutes. It was a half-finished painting of himself, sitting on the couch in the Mind Palace. And the only “finished” part was himself, fully colored in a semi-realistic impressionist warming glow.
Was that how Roman saw him? He knew that the impressionist movement emphasized the perception of events and movements, taking care of the lighting in environments to reflect not only upon the realistic light sources, but also on how the artist perceives such moments. It seemed….
Well, he didn’t much believe that the Artist was disliked them. Not after seeing these. But it unnerved him that so many were unfinished and unfocused. What was Roman lacking? Was it just an art block?
Patton stood up and patted Logan’s side. “I’m gonna wake up Child,” he whispered, glancing sideways at the Artist, who was painting now, “Get him some breakfast so we can be on our way.”
Logan nodded, putting a painting of a simple house down. “Very well. As soon as he is ready, we should leave. The Artist expressed a desire for all three of us to leave.”
Patton’s brow furrowed, and looked at the Artist, who wasn’t paying them any mind. The Child had to leave, too? Patton just wanted to say goodbye, he didn’t think that they’d be taking him with him. Wasn’t it dangerous outside?
“Wouldn’t it be safer for him to stay here?” he asked, raising an eyebrow at Logan now.
Logan pursed his lips.
Patton was probably right. It….was logical, that the Child would be safer hidden here, between multiple failsafes. “The Artist didn’t want him to stay here,” Logan murmured, “I am unsure why.”
“Well, how about we ask him!”
“Ask who what?”
Patton and Logan looked up to see the Child standing in the stairway, rubbing his eyes, yawning wide. He smacked his lips and grinned at them as they stood in the kitchen entryway, watching with slightly stricken expressions. If he saw anything wrong with that, though, he didn’t say.
“Awh, is that breakfast?!” the Child bounded down from the stairs and launched himself from the base, sliding his socked feet along the smoothed wooden floor.
He slid straight into Patton, who caught him with a “Woop!” This Roman was much more of a hugger, as the Child wrapped his arms around Patton’s hip and squeezed him tight.
Love
The Child snuggled his face into Patton’s side, until he caught a whiff of the eggs. “Oh my God,” he leaned back, though kept his hands balled in Patton’s shirt, “Did Loga–Did Logic make eggs?”
Okay, Logan honestly had no idea his eggs were this popular. “I–um, yes, I did,” he stepped back into the kitchen, “Are you able to make your own plate?”
“Um,” the Child rubbed his chin in thought — Patton was going to die, right here, in the Imagination, because Roman as a kid was so adorable. Just, the cutest. Curse the natural dad instincts — “I think I can!”
He hopped over to the counter, which he could barely peek over, and grabbed a plate. Carefully, and Logan watched just in case, the Child loaded up a plate of eggs, hash browns, and toast. And the whole rest of jelly jar.
He shot Logan a squinted, suspicious look, and held the jelly jar closer. “This one’s mine,” he hissed, “You jelly fiend.”
Logan didn’t know whether to be offended or pleased that that was his reputation. Like….this was a child. But also, he was a serious man with serious problems to attend to, and being labeled a “jelly fiend” was detrimental to that reputation.
But he was talking to a child, THE Child. He may as well play along. He looked to Patton for help, but only found the moral side with his fists pressed up to his cheek, figurative stars in his eyes while watching the Child spoon the jelly out of the jar and consume it.
Logan put his hands up in defeat. “I will not take your jelly,” he said.
“Promise?” the Child asked, pointing the spoon at Logan accusingly.
Alright. He’d admit it. The Child was a positive influence. “I promise.”
The Child raised an eyebrow, but said nothing else. Evidently placated by Logan’s promise, he licked the spoon.
While Logan dealt with the Child, Patton moved closer to the Artist. He hadn’t let go of the whole you’re-letting-a-child-lose-in-a-murder-situation thing and really, nothing anyone said was going to make him let go of that.
And, yeah, sure, Logan and the Artist both said not to bother him. But it couldn’t be that bad! They’d be out of his hair as soon as he said he’d let the Child stay. Patton didn’t understand the harm in a quick interruption. “Artist?”
No response.
Patton frowned. He didn’t want to touch him — Logan’s comment about him being touch averse still lingered in his mind — so Patton just stepped around and stood behind the painting, waving a hand and hoping to attract his attention.
“Hey, Roman!” he said. “Artist!”
Finally, the Artist acknowledged him, in a quick “Mhm.”
“Look at me?” Patton asked.
“Mhm.”
Okay, so the Artist wasn’t paying attention. This was a really important topic, and Patton, sadly, needed his full attention. Patton grabbed his shoulders, and the Artist stiffened again.
Careful of the painting, Patton pulled the easel back, squatting in front of the Artist so they were about equal height.
Uh oh. The Artist looked stricken, staring at Patton with eyes as wide as the moon and a mouth slightly open, slackjawed and confused. Behind them, the Child babbled to Logan about stars while Logan responded gently about constellations. Neither seemed to know of what was going on.
“Hey, Artist,” Patton smiled a little, trying to ease whatever tension there may be, “I’m sorry for bothering you! I just wanted to ask, um….” he bit his lip, it’s okay, just ask, “Would it be okay if Child stayed here?”
“What?!”
Hearing his name, the Child looked up. He and Logan both starred at Patton and the Artist, finally realizing that Patton had done the one explicit thing that the Artist had been adamant that no one do.
And, well, to be fair. Patton wasn’t usually one to press boundaries. He would be okay with letting the Artist paint for however long he wanted, so long as he took healthy breaks and ate a lunch and dinner eventually. But this was a dire situation. The Child had someone hunting him! Someone who wanted to hurt him.
Letting him hide, stay out of trouble, that was the right thing to do. Roman would understand, surely.
“No,” the Artist said.
Well.
Patton frowned, running his hands along the Artist’s upper arms and gently holding him steady. Maybe he just had to explain?
“Well,” he said, “It’s deadly outside, and we don’t want him getting hurt, right? Don’t you wanna keep him safe?”
The paintbrush and palette disappeared from the Artist’s hands as they slowly curled into fists. His lip was twitching, too, revealing a barely-contained anger.
Patton had done the ONE thing….
The Artist sucked in a breath. “....I don’t give much of a fuck, Dad. I told you all to leave.”
Someone yanked Patton back, causing him to let go of the Artist. He turned around, ready to reprimand Logan, only to find that Logan was nowhere to be seen.
The Child tugged Patton back a little more away from the Artist, teeth pressed together into a wide grimace. He shot Patton a small look, terrified and distressed, and pulled him toward the door.
“We’re on our way out, Arty!” the Child said, running around Patton and giving him a sharp push toward the door, “ I’m sorry, I didn’t tell Pat to say that, we’re gonna head out—”
Logan ran down the stairs, holding Patton and the Child’s cloaks in his arms. He handed the Child’s cloak to him, letting him put it on himself.
He wasn’t entirely sure why they had to leave so soon, but after Patton said the Child’s name, he’d turned to Logan with a petrified expression and whispered that they had to leave immediately. While Logan was certain that there was more to the Artist than a quick temper, he wasn’t confident that the Artist wouldn’t lash out.
It seemed that Patton was pretty confident, though. After all, why WOULD the Artist do anything?
He shook his head when Logan offered him his cloak and turned back to the Artist.
“No, no we’re not leaving,” Patton marched right back to the Artist, still sitting on his stool, hands trembling in his lap. “I thought you cared about protecting everyone. Why can’t he stay?”
The Artist stood up, causing the Child to jump back in fright, though Patton didn’t flinch. He just stood nose-to-nose with the Artist, who glared right into his eyes.
“He’s a distraction,” the Artist spoke slow, quietly, though the trembling of his hands and the twitch in his eye betrayed  It’s bad enough you’re all here. I don’t like distractions while I’m working, and you in particular keep distracting me—”
“Is that why nothing is finished?” Logan asked.
The Artist stepped back, as though he’d been slapped. Logan came up behind Patton, carefully putting a hand on Patton’s shoulder.
Patton gave him a small smile of relief. He wasn’t sure he could argue this well enough without him. While attacking the Artist’s art probably wasn’t the best method, he was glad that the responsibility of reigning him in wasn’t all just on Patton.
Having back up was nice.
That, and they still had to get information. Perhaps Patton’s opinion that the Child should stay here was logical and morally right, but that didn’t mean the Artist would abide by it when angry. They had to be strategic.
Logan cleared his throat, continuing with a gentle after the Artist’s lack of response. “All of your paintings. They all seem to be in some state of incompletion,” he gestured around the room, hoping to redirect the Artist’s focus. He didn’t want to come off as overly critical, though. They were wonderful, truly, but….well. You cannot blame him for having curiosities. “When you are distracted, do you not finish?”
The Artist just kept staring at him. He didn’t move, barely breathed, mouth hanging open a tiny bit. He did seem a little slow on the uptake, with lethargically slow movements and reactions.
His shoulders slowly hiked up as he drew in a breath. Patton perked up, and Logan‘s grip on Patton tightened.
“....Get out.”
His voice was cold as ice. A palette knife was summoned into his hand and his knuckles paled quickly from his tight grip.
Oh, dear. The Child hissed something behind the two adult Sides, but neither paid him any mind. They were acutely focused on the Artist.
“It’s an honest question,” Logan said, “I’m sorry if I offended, but—”
“I don’t have to answer it. Get out.”
Patton big his lip, eyes darting to Logan before he continued. “Roman, please—”
“I just want to create without you all getting in my fucking way all the time!” the Artist exploded. “And none of it’s good enough anyway, if it were good, I’d finish it, but nothing’s fucking good enough for you yet!”
He ground his teeth together, body stiff, hands curled at his sides.
It was bad enough he couldn’t finish a piece at all. The art block was bad enough. The fact that parts of him wanted to kill other parts of him and wanted to kill him him was bad enough.
He just wanted to create and wanted it to be good enough for their astronomically high standards.
Maybe the Thief was right. Wanting only made it hurt more.
“Roman—” Patton started again, only to be immediately cut off again by his shout.
“OUT!”
The Artist’s yell was loud enough to shake the house. Or perhaps that was because he wanted them to perceive it that way.
Either way, it was clear that the atmosphere wanted them to leave, whether they got an elaboration or not. The Child grabbed Patton’s arm and, with more force than Patton knew children to have, yanked him out. “We’re leaving, Dad,” he hissed, tugging Patton along.
Where had that outburst come from? And those tears? The Artist — he looked so upset, face twisting into picturesque disappointment and anger, lip curling and nostrils flared.
Patton couldn’t just leave him, no, he had to talk to the Artist, something. Anything.
The Artist jerked forward, shouting “OUT!” once more as he lifted the palette knife to point at them.
The Child threw open the front door and pushed Patton out. There was a time and a place, and this was neither.
He motioned for Logan to follow. “Don’t make me grab you, Logic,” he snapped, half scared, half frustrated.
Logan, blinking away his confusion, followed.
They left the Artist alone with one hand gripping a palette knife and the other his own shirt, over his heart.
