The Development of Law and Zoro relationship: Zoro, the Buffer

The raid on Kaido’s mansion has finally started and with it, the Supernovas specific teamwork. Plenty of things will happen before the Worst Generation face two Emperors - for now, the most relevant is a short-lived teamwork of Straw Hat Supernovas and Kid as the presence of Kid greatly influences the established relationship between Law and Luffy and in result, Law and Zoro’s as well.

In the previous part of the analysis we could observe how the lack of Zoro & Luffy affected the dynamic between Straw Hats and Law in regard to authority. A similar issue has arised between the three captains albeit in a different fashion. Kid, Law and Luffy argued a lot about not taking orders from other captains. It was not the first time for them to do so, as during Sabaody Archipelago arc their reluctant teamwork started exactly when Kid off-handy commented he will deal with the marines on his own thus be the one saving others’ skin - an implication that the other pirate crews and their leaders were inferior. Something that Law and Luffy found unacceptable. Though the Supernovas compete all the time, back then they kept cool heads while now, they literally can’t stand together and not insult or scream at each other. The extreme different behavior present an interesting contrast between past and current events (chapter 975)

That Luffy and Kid argue non stop is nothing new, as the manga already showed their competing relationship when both were forced to cooperate as the prisoners in Udon. From the story so far shown, there is no doubt that Eustass is a difficult man to deal with. Unless it is Killer or members of his crew, Kid regularly insults people, even if said people are on the same side of conflict. He is impulsive, aggressive and prone to violence. Above everything else, Kid doesn’t want to rely on anyone (beside Killer) and doesn’t accept taking orders from others. Which is no wonder how his and Luffy’s impulsiveness and stubbornness clash at every possible occasion.

The surprising thing however is that the usually calm, uncaring Law is no less affected by Kid’s aggressive presence than Luffy. In fact, once Kid joined the alliance, manga presented a visible shift in how Law and Lufy interact with each other too. This is no Luffy & Law‘s unity against Kid type of relationship. Once it comes to prove their authority / equal status or worth as Supernova Captain, all will (comically) jump at each other's throats to prove their point or superiority. Despite his maturity and pragmatic nature, Law is not above provoking Luffy and Kid, nor being indifferent to their jabs.

One would think that if Eustass was so hard to deal with that Luffy and Law reacted in such a strong way then Zoro should have the same difficulty to tolerate the man. But in contrast to Luffy and Law, Zoro was pretty much unaffected by Kid’s specific type of behavior and because of that, from on play the role of buffer between the arguing Captain Trio.

It was especially handy in the Luffy and Kid’s accidental cooperation seen in chapter 981. At that time Luffy and Zoro (after separating from their crew at the beginning of the alliance's stealthy attack) already blew up their cover.

Straw Hat started a fight with the enemy because Kaido Pirates wasted oshiruko for fun while people of Wano (Tama) incredibly suffered due to hunger. Kid’s reaction then was to comment on what an idiot Luffy was and to use this distraction for his own benefit. But then Zoro - who went after Luffy into enemy territory to, in theory, keep his captain out of troubles - cut in half a tower and angrily chided Luffy for reckless behavior. This shocked Kid who wondered if Roronoa even heard himself since he did the same thing as Luffy. The ruckus was noticed by the enemy and soon after that the two Straw Hat pirates were attacked by Appo whose unknown power surprised and hurt both. Eustass came to the rescue (chapter 980), not because he cared for other pirates but because he held a grudge against Appo, the man responsible for misfortune that happened to Kid and Killer. Thus the accidental cooperation started between involved allied Supernovas.

Luffy returned the favor, by protecting Kid from the enemy's attack only to openly criticize Eustass for causing a scene while ignoring own part in the mess (chapter 981). Zoro, who despite being Luffy’s right hand, pointed out he was the last one who should be talking. Kid pointed out Zoro was as much at fault as Straw Hat. Killer noted that all three men are idiots. Similar to Zoro, Killer is no blind to his captain’s flaws but in contrast, he kept his opinion for himself.

The frame provided only speech bubbles indicating who spoke what and an additional mark of the character's emotional tone. Judging by the bubbles alone:

↪ Zoro and Killer were relatively calm about the situation while Luffy and Kid openly showed their anger as both had proper signs to express their irritation.

↪ Kid was irritated not only about Luffy’s accusation but as well by Zoro’s words though Roronoa showed a surprising objectiveness toward his captain. Because really, Luffy was the first one to start causing an unwanted scene so his accusation against Eustass was unfair. It was truly “the pot calling the kettle black” type of situation and Roronoa wasn’t blind to it (he may however be ignoring his own contribution, as Eustass pointed out).

In anime extension, episode 987 showed clearly that during this scene, Zoro in fact was placed between Luffy and Kid (which Killer following behind after the trio):

Interestingly, once Kid and Luffy again started their argument, Zoro simply watched them for a few seconds just to loudly proclaim he is going ahead and that Kaido’s head will be his.

The implication that Roronoa will defeat the Emperor alone (because the other Supernovas wasted their time on pointless talk) made both captains come to their senses and run after the swordsman. Which again shows quite well the difference in how Law and Zoro deal with the argumentative Kid. And yes, there is competitive nerve in Zoro’s behavior too, as he is arguing with other Supernovas who will beat the enemy but while Trafalgar is easily dragged into the screaming match, Zoro focuses on the task at hand. And to be honest, Roronoa’s uncaring attitude actually works better at keeping Kid and Luffy on the right track, even if both pirates run after him just to be the first to face Kaido instead of putting the good of alliance above their constant bickering.

(Out of the five allied Supernovas, only Killer acts as a sane person, but in contrast to Zoro, he does not really call out anyone on their insanity aloud.)

↪ In the manga alone there is no following panel showing Zoro’s reaction at Kid’s angry remark (“You are the last should be talking Luffy” “Same you, Roronoa!”). In a way this gives an impression that Zoro simply ignored the other man. Frankly, Roronoa seemed to “ignore” Law at first too, as he barely talked with the allied Supernova. Yet the upcoming interaction with Kid will quickly differ from how manga presented Law and Zoro’s early relationship. For one, Zoro stood between two angry captains and his “buffer” position in the middle did not change for the whole chapter, as could be see during Appo’s attack:

Of course, this may be just a fault of frame’s technical limitation that there is little to no space between Kid, Zoro and Luffy, but this structure contrasts a lot with Zoro’s earliest interaction with Law. From Punk Hazard to Dressrosa arc, Roronoa upheld a visible distance between himself and the other Supernova and did not invade much Trafalgar’s personal space unless A) the man needed to be protected during battle or B) ultimately proved himself as worthy and loyal ally, leading to the shared drink at the end of Dressrosa arc.

The last point I contribute mainly to Law’s true goal (personal revenge on Doflamingo), as manga repeatedly presented Roronoa to be very perceptive of characters’ hidden motives. Which could explain his vigilant approach to supposedly allied Supernova because Zoro instinctively knew there was more to what the man’s shared with Straw Hats. However, once Law’s ties to the enemy finally came to light and were cleared out by events, Zoro’s approach to Law changed in a visible way. He was the one invading Law’s personal space and after sharing a drink, both men clearly were at ease in the presence of each other. With Kid the situation was much easier, as there were no hidden goals or plans on his part. However difficult Eustass can be to deal with, he is a pretty honest and straightforward type of character. He openly said to not care for samurai and joined the raid solely to take Kaido’s head. Which may explain the Zoro’s lack of distance he kept toward Trafalgar.

The lack of Zoro’s visible reservation actually stands out even more when the narration showed Kid-Zoro-Luffy dynamic in a not-so-serious way so early in the raid. We could even say that those three pirates share the same level of “comedical dumbness”, something that didn’t happen to Zoro and Law in the Punk Hazard arc. And yes, both men had their share of funny reactions (Trafalgar mainly thanks to other Straw Hats’ courtesy) but since storyline kept them separated, they did not experience anything similar to frame presented below:

Killer proved to be the sensible and adult one in the group, as he did not get involved in others’ bickering while actually providing important knowledge about Appo’s special powers. Though Luffy and Kid were so set on not taking orders from each other, interestingly every person involved in this scene did as Killer said. It is hard to predict what Law would do if he was there, but it is clear the issue of following someone’s orders is not per se about refusing to listen to other characters, but about the independence and prestige coming with captain status. Zoro following Killer’s advice (demand) is also very telling since at this point he may be already aware that the other Supernova was in fact shogun’s assassin Kamazo with whom he fought not so ago.

Anime episode 987 even more ridiculed this scene, again highlighting “dumbness” of Kid, Zoro and Luffy during Killer’s effort to keep his comrades safe:

Frankly, the manga chapter provided only a few in total frames showing Kid, Zoro and Luffy together in the same picture. Yet despite the little amount of source material, the most visibly standing out detail is how Zoro was always placed between Luffy and Kid and how said men actually were capable of working without jumping at each throat, as they did in Udon and at the sea with Law. This is in fact something unusual, as - narrative wise - Luffy is the central figure around whom everything is orbiting and up to this point it was him playing the middle-man role for Law and Zoro at the early stage of alliance. However, with a Kid, the situation is totally different. Zoro - and Killer for that matter - is not equal to Kid and Luffy in the strict hierarchical rank sense yet, his presence is something more than a supportive role. His presence seems to be vital to making the difficult and uneasy alliance working for the time being.

This provides an ironic contrast to Captain Trio’s dynamic, as Zoro and Law have similar introverted nature yet Roronoa’s presence somehow balances two impulsive Supernovas wheneras Trafalgar adds fuel to the conflict by acting no less confrontational (childish) than Luffy and Kid. Something that will be the subject of the analysis’ next part.

The last panels of chapter 981 relevant to Supernovas shows insight into Kid and Killer’s relationship - somehow the crowd of enemy soldiers learned that Killer ate the failed SMILE fruit that turned him into one of Pleasures and Eustass was willing to kill anyone who dares laugh at his partner. Luffy again angrily screamed at Kid to stop causing a scene, though the manga did not show clearly if Zoro or Killer were the one supporting this demand.

However, anime expanded this scene, showing it was Zoro alongside Luffy who critiqued Eustass’s rash behavior and Kid still didn’t take kindly to hearing it from them both (episode 987):

When the four Supernovas were separated for a bit (episode 988), we could clearly see that Zoro and Killer - and at this point, Zoro most likely is aware of Killer’s past as Shogun’s assassin - actually acted civil toward each other and even discussed Kid’s impulsiveness and the similarity between their captains. When times called for it, arm to arm they dealt with the enemy crowd. Meanwhile Luffy and Kid argued non stop and were even physically invading each other's personal space in the “fight of wills” which shows well the contrast between captains and their right-hand men.

In the following scene, Zoro chided both Luffy and Kid for their never-ending arguing that did not benefit their alliance at all and surprisingly there was no angry comeback from any of the captains.

So again, the source material presents Zoro and Killer as the adult, responsible one in their little group that even impulsive Eustass somehow, for a moment at least, tolerate Zoro as the voice of a reason.

This is of course just a foretaste of the upcoming Supernovas teamwork against Big Mom and Kaido and how the presence of Eustass influences behavior of other characters. Manga-wise, so far there is the feeling that as long as Zoro stayed between Luffy and Kid, there was no additional argument between the captains. The ease with Roronoa tolerated angry Kid is in fact a very interesting aspect compared to the development of his and Law's relationship. With Law, there was a visible distance upheld by Zoro and it did not disappear until Law’s ultimate motives weren’t cleared. With Kid however, there is little to no distancing himself from the other man but also, the confrontational attitude of Kid does not provoke Roronoa the way it provokes usually calm Trafalgar. Roronoa was presented as outspoken and quite fair in his criticism, as he chided both Kid and Luffy, rarely siding only with his captain. In contrast, as much as Killer wasn’t blind to Eustass’s character faults or Straw Hat Supernovas’ own stubbornness, he rarely openly critiqued anyone, keeping his opinions mostly to himself.

For me, the most vital conclusion is that Luffy played once a connector role between Law and Zoro while Zoro now plays the buffer in the Kid-Luffy dynamic. And to be honest Zoro’s buffer role will come to play again in the New Generation’s final confrontation against two Emperors. Which of course will be the subject of the analysis’ next part.

✿ It's The Little Things ✿

A/N: My first time writing! Admittedly I'm very nervous, but also so excited!! Kept it simple with a small headcanon list to start, but I tried to write a decent amount for each point, and I hope that everyone is in character :0 Posting at 4am because I have no control over my life...

Summary: Little relationship things with the Strawhats. Can be interpreted as the anime/manga or the live action version of the character.

Characters: Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji

Content: SFW, G/N reader, slightest hint of angst in Sanji's part, but otherwise, pure unadulterated fluff! ✿

Luffy

✿ He absentmindedly draws shapes on your leg, back, or whatever part of you is there as you sit together, whether you are watching the waves, or listening to one of Usopp's stories. He is almost magnetic in the way he ends up attached to you. If you're not feeling it, he will do his best to keep his hands to himself, but as soon as his focus shifts onto anything else, they're back on you, drawing little clouds and hearts. He tried, he really did!

✿ This bottomless pit inhales food like it's going out of fashion, but, much to the bewilderment of the rest of the crew, he will actually feed you from his plate as he eats, even though you are eating your own food. It may be a case of "1 for you, 5 for me," but it's almost instinctive for him; he's sharing something he's passionate about with you, and making sure that, in his eyes, you are happy, healthy and strong. He values your wellbeing more than food; you are one of the most important things in his life.

✿ Despite how chaotic he is in every aspect of his life, his presence brings you to a state of complete peace, even when he's yelling about whatever currently has his attention. Just knowing he is there comforts you in a way that nothing, and no one else can. As long as Luffy is there, being the same old Luffy he always is, you know everything will be alright in the end, and if it isn't alright, well, it isn't the end yet.

Zoro

✿ He always places a comforting hand on your head when he passes by, or ends up in the same general space as you. It's his version of a hug, a reassuring touch that he is there, and that he's happy to see you. Zoro is very subtle with his affection, at least in public, but even when it's just the two of you, he automatically defaults to the head pat. It comforts him as much as it does you, and the simple action alone conveys his feelings far better than he ever could with words.

✿ You both love silently observing everything going on around you, and it's such a comfortable silence. You just enjoy each others company while watching the world go by, with Zoro also keeping an eye out for any threats, as he does. Sometimes you end up passing silent judgement on what you see, and you have both developed this uncanny ability to gossip without saying a single word. It's honestly unnerving at times, but you are just so familiar with each others micro-expressions that it's second nature.

✿ Insults are terms of endearment. If anyone else called either of you such things, all hell would break loose - swords drawn, blood spilt, bodies hit the floor, the whole song and dance. It actually started out as a form of deflection, with both of you being far too stubborn to admit any feelings were there, even to yourselves; "No, I don't like you, shitstain, I tolerate you." - "Whatever helps you sleep at night, arseface." As you connected though, it just became your thing, and you love seeing who can come up with the funniest insults. Zoro is surprisingly creative in this regard.

Nami

✿ Nami has a habit of fixing your clothes and hair if something is out of place. It can seem overbearing to others, but she knows you appreciate the gesture. She spent years putting up walls to defend herself, and this is a safe way for her to have a little moment alone with you, giving you gentle little touches without revealing to the world just how important you are to her. It is a very grounding experience for both of you, and you end up doing the same for her on the rare occasion that she isn't completely flawless. She may purposely put things out of place so you have the opportunity to fix something too.

✿ She has an eye for the finer things, and loves getting you little trinkets, and especially pieces of jewellery, which often match or pair with hers, like pendants that fit together to make a whole shape, and such. Just don't ask her where she got them; "Shhh, you don't need to worry about that." All that matters is that you now have a tangible connection to each other, no matter how close, or far apart you are.

✿ Another person who relishes in comfortable silence. Of course you love chatting with each other, and often do so later into the night than you intended. Nami is very quick-witted and your shared snark is always so enjoyable! But it's the moments when you are doing your own thing together, basking in the warmth of that closeness that brings the most joy. Every so often, you will share something interesting or amusing, depending on what you're doing, but you always return to that silence. It's very domestic.

Usopp

✿ You both end up in regular fits of giggles, that grow into raucous laughter, before devolving into the sounds of various suffocating wildlife, which only fuels the hilarious fire. He doesn't even have to say anything at times; he just has a look, and as soon as he catches your eye with it, you absolutely lose it. The amount of nonsensical inside jokes you have is absurd in itself.

✿ Ever the storyteller, Usopp will wind down the day with you relaxing under the stars, telling you fantastical stories about the impossible feats of the great 'Captain Usopp.' His creativity and imagination are something you greatly admire, and as much as you try to stay awake to appreciate those qualities, the comfort he brings has you dropping off every time. He'll carry you to bed most nights, but sometimes he can only manage to drag you around like a corpse he's trying to hide, and he'll end up waking you up laughing about it.

✿ You automatically link your little fingers whenever you are close enough to. It doesn't even register half of the time, only realising when you need that hand or try to go your separate ways. When this happens, providing there isn't anything that needs your urgent attention, you like to dramatize your parting, playing up that this is the most painful moment of your lives! "Don't you dare let go, Usopp! We can both make it out of this alive!" - "I'm so sorry, I can't hold on any longer, and I refuse to drag you down with me." - "No! Don't say that!" - "I love you so much, but you need to let me go..." Leading to you unlinking your fingers, and exaggerated fake cries of anguish. It annoys everyone around you immensely.

Sanji

✿ You shamelessly flirt with each other, making everyone around you uncomfortable, groaning at how painful it is. You weren't together when you started playing this romantic game of chicken, giving back everything Sanji threw at you, and then some, but once you figured your feelings out, you actually developed it into a legitimate game where you attempt to be as sickening and obnoxious as possible. If there is no one grimacing, angrily telling you both to pack it in, or simply leaving the room; you aren't flirting enough. There is a points system, and you're currently in the lead. Sanji ends up caving over the things you say, and his brain loses the ability to form words, let alone string them together in a coherent sentence.

✿ Sanji always leaves a drink and a bite to eat for you to wake up to, since he isn't there in person, having to wake up much earlier to prepare the food for the day. Growing up in a restaurant, early starts are just part of his natural rhythm, so it doesn't bother him, but sometimes you try to wake up with him to at least watch the sunrise together, before going back to bed for a couple more hours. He cherishes those mornings, and there is always an extra spring in his step on those days.

✿ He takes every opportunity he can to share a glance and a warm smile, a gentle touch of your hands, or a chaste kiss with you. They are agonisingly brief moments, but Sanji needs them to get him through the day, otherwise he would just cling to you, and neither of you would get anything done! Unknown to you, these moments are also his way of reminding himself that you chose him over everyone else, that he is loved unconditionally, and that he is enough, without having to, in his opinion, burden you with his insecurities. He'll open up to you one day, and you will be able to give him verbal affirmations along with everything else~

Where op characters like to kiss you :)

I'm not sure I like this one so much but I've been a little busier this week so I hope it's enjoyable anyways.

Established relationship, suggestive in some parts(Law, Kid) so mdni.

Might have some very minor spoilers if you aren't past the timeskip, in Robin's part and it's a brief mention of someone the strawhats team up with. There's also a slight reference to some details about Killer but no specifics.

Luffy

Your entire face! Especially while you're smiling, he just cant help the giddiness that bubbles up inside him when he sees you smiling or laughing...so he has to let it out by giving you lots of little kisses on your face ://). His arms stretch out to wrap around you, bundling you two together while he grins and starts his onslaught, once he's got you there's no escape.

Also when he kisses you on the mouth he always cups your entire face with his hands and pulls you into him, pressing his lips to yours in-between soft giggles.

Zoro

Forehead/temple. It's easy, it's quick, he just swoops in with a little mwah and then he's gone before you can even register it. Especially loves to do it before a fight because he thinks it's good luck. It really can throw him off if he hasnt kissed you at least once that day so usually he tries to get one in every morning when you wake up. Absolutely melts if you kiss him on the forehead back.

Once he gets used to you kissing him then he's constantly asking, but instead of asking normally he just stares at you for a long while before leaning towards you and tapping his forehead very pointedly.

Sanji

Cheek. (Not that kind of cheek...although-)

Anyways he thinks it's a very sweet place to kiss, and he likes it because it can be both chaste and teasing. For example if it's just a quick soft kiss then it'll be closer to the apple of your cheeks, but if he wants to tease you he'll kiss directly next to corner of your mouth or right by your jaw.

Sometimes purposefully teases you in front of others because he knows it looks innocent from an outside perspective so you can't tell him off for flustering you. Though it's easy to turn the tables, just wear a little bit of shiny lipgloss and he won't be able to concentrate at all, this is when you give him a nice chaste cheek kiss of your own and go on your way. He stands still for so long his cigarette ends up burning out.

Usopp

Your hands. It's subtle but intimate enough that he feels comfortable doing it in public. Usually you link pinkies while walking around or sitting together so whenever he has to let go, for whatever reason, he'll swing your joined hands up to kiss your knuckles. The way he does it is so different from how he reacts to affection normally that it makes your knees go wobbly, it's probably about the only thing he does with full casual confidence.

Eventually he notices the effect this has on you and it actually really helps him develop confidence in other areas too. And if you do it back he gives you this lovely warm smile and he's just so so pretty.

Nami

Shoulders. I'm not sure why but i can just imagine her dropping a delicate kiss to your shoulder as she walks past on deck, or her rolling over in the morning and just giving you lots of light little kisses on your decolletage. Especially loves it if she's taller than you, even if only by a few inches. She also loves standing with her arms tossed over your shoulders, torsos as close as possible while she leans on you.

She really loves to kiss you here in public too, she feels like it's not too exposing but definitely can't be mistaken as platonic, she'll have you sat on her lap in a bar or something and after every sip of her drink she just leaves a gentle but sticky kiss.

Robin

Your lips. She's a woman that knows what she wants alright, and she is highkey obsessed with your lips. She thinks they look so soft and inviting and she's constantly fighting off the impulse to kiss you whenever you converse. It was a pretty serious problem for her before you got together. She just thinks they're so pretty and your beautiful voice and smile come from there too.

She also always kisses you at inappropriate times. After the alliance with Law began, she once kissed you while he was explaining a plan and the glare he levelled you both with was unreal.

Law

...stomach. He's obsessed with the shape of your body in general but there's just something about your stomach that makes him want to bite you(lovingly). If you wear a crop top and/or low rise jeans he practically explodes, he just can't help it. Fully spends hours sucking love bites into the skin there. Loves making you stand in front of him while hes sat, hands tight on your hips, leaving a trailer of wet kisses as he gets lower. He only makes you stand because he likes to see your knees tremble.

Now he's very reserved but he will kiss you in public if he can 1. do it stealthily and 2. inconvenience you in someway like making you too flustered to talk.

Kid

BASTARD! Neck. He has no shame and his kisses are always very intense so he will absolutely give you a hickie while you're talking to someone. You've learned to ignore him but you've also learned that makes him worse. The correct route is to give him a hickey in return, his neck is very sensitive so he folds so quickly. Though he will take revenge later so keep that in mind.

somehow managed to reach wano and after missing zoro for 50+ chapters I'm so happy these two are back to their single braincell sharing shenanigans.

like. the way luffy was so happy to see zoro again (mind you, this wasn't nearly as long as the 2 year timeskip) that he momentarily forgot the poor sick tama to launch himself straight into zoro's arms?

the matching wide happy grins? the hug? the fact that zoro's the first of the straw hats luffy sees after separating from zoro's group in zou, kinda like how zoro was the first to arrive at sabaody after 2 years? they're crazy (affectionate)

I think the contrast between opla luffy not only remembering wado's name (albeit uh kinda botched) but also caring for wado ichimonji while zoro was injured vs manga luffy not remembering why nidai kitetsu's name sounded familiar and nearly giving zoro an aneurysm by mishandling the sword on top of that is genuinely, hysterically funny btw. different zolu flavors and all of them tasty

I love their interactions with tama so far too! zoro protecting and shielding them both from hawkins with quite literally his own body was really good

and it will never not get to me how easy it is for luffy to leave his back open for zoro to protect when facing enemies, ever since they met, simply bc he has that much faith in zoro's strength and willingness to keep him (and others, when it occurs) safe. plus, to go back to zou for a bit - it's just sweet that luffy knows zoro more than well enough to look beyond all the layers of grumpiness and ostensibly harsh words at times. zoro didn't seem exactly eager to bring sanji back at first but one look at him after noticing zoro had been listening in to the group's conversation abt what happened to sanji and luffy immediately pointed out that he bet zoro was actually worried abt him.

on different occasions, zoro's straightforward or too-rational approach mixed up with his lack of tact tends to understandably annoy other characters but if there's someone who knows how much zoro genuinely cares for his crew (and others sometimes) regardless of what he says, luffy's definitely right there. it's been that way since they interacted for the first time and is why the riceballs incident was so significant to luffy back then. it's such a compelling aspect of their relationship, as usual

anyway just look at them!!!! they're so cute!!!!!

also, zoro going from -> unwillingly flung around arlong park by luffy -> stoically letting luffy manhandle him around in dressrosa -> actively asking luffy to bring him along and hanging onto him of his own volition? character development

and to finish this post, my condolences to law 🙏🏼 knowing those two are on the loose without any sane supervision around must be a nightmare (zoro himself is already on wano's shit list after cutting down that magistrate) and worse if they're together

When he first hears the story about how you have been treated, his expression darkens. "I am here now, he's gone" is what he tells you - and himself, too. But it gnaws at him. He hates manipulators that put people in literal or psychological cages. And he hates that it happened to you.

When they meet in person, Law will rearrange your ex's body and is open for your suggestions. Why not replace his head with a cannonball and take his dick as a trophy? He doesn't need to spew abusive bullshit anymore and no one needs his sexual attention anyways.

Law will sleep better, knowing that he did to him what you wouldn't have because you are too good a person

He is not one for elaborate compliments and he is no therapist, but he will try to help healing the wounds you sustained by being the most supportive and positive boyfriend you ever had. If you need his shoulder, he is there. If you feel bad, he will do anything to make you feel better. He will not make you do anything you don't feel comfortable with.

Sanji

As you casually tell him about your past relationship he catches fire and has to run around the ship a few times to cool down. He switches between pampering you extra, extra EXTRA nice and angry mutterings to himself. He promises you if he ever meets that guy, he is going to kick him through all the grand line and back again

When the moment comes, Sanji switches into total ruffian mode. You have never heard that string of merciless trash talk from anyone before and it doesn't take long until he has totally set off your ex, luring him into throwing the first punch. It is, of course, futile, but Sanji takes his time to finish him off. He should, after all, learn that no one should hurt his lady.

He is visibly relieved to have finally gotten revenge for the unacceptable things that guy did to you. He is awaiting your praise eagerly.

Since he knows what it feels like first hand, he feels even closer to you and tells you his stories if you want to hear them. You will heal together, in time. The memories will fade and be replaced with better ones you make together. You support each other in breaking through the self harming behaviour you developed.

Zoro

His initial reaction to your explanations about why you still feel uncomfortable doing certain things is total helplessness. He cannot fathom that someone would ever take the time and effort to systematically destroy their partner. He believes you, but it is so far out of his own experience that it is hard to grasp for him.

It makes him angry, however. Because that dickhead insulted you you feel insecure? What can be broken can be fixed is Zoro's motto, so he will comment positively on everything every time. Even though he is not very creative, his compliments come from the heart, and you feel it.

When he finally meets the guy he is a bit disappointed. That is no worthy opponent. He doesn't honor him with the use of his swords. Zoro will grab him by the collar and throw him off the next cliff. "For what you did to y/n, you coward."

The job is finished, no need to talk about it anymore and forget the bastard ever existed.

Luffy

When you merely tell him about it he will think you got over it just like he doesn't stay angry for long. But when you cry the first time or refuse to do something fun because of him he realises that you are still affected by what happened to you. He will not have it.

When they meet and your shitty ex makes a mean comment? Luffy gets his murder expression and punches that guy to the other side if the city.

You get luffys hat whenever you need emotional support. No questions asked. You get to sit in his favourite spot whenever you want to. You even get the last bite of delicious food if it's what you need.

Burning Hearts Chapter 11: Coffee Break

Law was a creature of habit. Your training begun every morning, Monday through Saturday, at 8 AM sharp in the clearing in the forest. It would end promptly at noon and the two of you would return to the base together for lunch. Law didn’t wear a watch, he was so meticulous that he could run his daily routine in his sleep.

The opposite of how you were. Your body was finally used to having a strict wake up time, but even then Ikkaku would often have to bust through your door and hoist you out of bed when you were feeling extra lazy. You missed your life on the Sunny with your friends, there was organized chaos every day. You could roll out of bed at 6 AM or noon, Sanji would make your favorite breakfast anyway. You could spend your days sparring with Zoro, doing makeup with Robin, or playing Go-Fish with Chopper… no one breathing down your neck about what to do and when…

“Why can Bepo talk?” You ask, trailing behind Law on your way back from training. It was a few days after your confrontation with him on the submarine and you had continued your training without addressing it again.

“What?” Law replies.

“He’s a bear… but he’s also like… a person? I’ve seen him swim so obviously it’s not a devil fruit situation…”

“You’ve never seen a mink?”

“A who now?”

“A mink? The people from Zou?”

“Nope.”

Law sighs.

“They’re a race of bipedal animal beings. History says humans evolved from them, we just became less hairy.”

“So everyone there is a polar bear?” You cock your head.

Law sighs again, frustrated.

“No. They’re all different mammals. How have you not heard of this? I thought you said your doctor was deer?”

“A reindeer. And no, Chopper’s a real reindeer, he just ate the Human-Human fruit.” You respond.

“Hmm… Interesting.”

Several more minutes pass with no sounds except the squelching of your boots in the mud underneath you as you made you way back to compound. Law glances back at you.

“So… ah..” Law begins, uncomfortably. “Do you like to have coffee?”

You furrow your brow.

“Like… in general? Do I enjoy coffee?” You respond, confused.

“No, shit, I mean like…” Law stumbles over his words. This was very much not like the composed, mysterious pirate captain you trained with. “What I mean is, do you want to have a coffee later? In my office.”

Those last words almost looked like they pained him to get out.

You raised your eyebrows in surprise.

“Oh! Well I…” You begin.

“I got some books when we went to town the other day, I want to show you a few things from them. It might help with developing your devil fruit ability.” Law quickly interrupts.

“Right, well… it’s tomato season so I’ve got a bunch of work to do in the garden, then I’ve got kitchen duty for dinner… but if you can put one of the guys on dishes I think I can stop by afterwards.”

“I can do that.”

“Daisyyyy! Shachi is hogging the sandwiches!”

You spin around with a grilled cheese in your mouth.

“Shachi if you don’t let that plate go I’m going to set you on fire!”

“Jeez, okay mom.” Shachi rolls his eyes and passes the plate of sandwiches to Penguin.

You wolf down the rest of your dinner and pour a hefty bowl of soup to set on a little tray. You place a spoon and a napkin on the tray. You ball up the dishtowel on your shoulder in your hands and throw it at Shachi’s head.

“Your greedy ass is on dish duty tonight, I have a meeting.”

“Oh a meeting?” Ikkaku raises an eyebrow over her bowl of soup.

“Yes a meeting to make sure your captain doesn’t die of scurvy and malnutrition. Now, if you’ll excuse me.” You push out of the galley with the tray of soup and head to Law’s office.

Upon reaching his door, you knock with your heel due to your hands being full. The door cracks open with some unseen force… oh yeah.. the room thing…

“Supper’s on!” You smile while pushing the door open with your shoulder. You see Law at his desk with stacks of old, coverless tomes surrounding him. The books had notes crudely shoved into certain pages. He looks up from the text briefly to beckon you into his office further. You set the bowl of soup and a spoon in front of Law on his desk after folding up the book he was actively reading.

“Eat. You’re borderline skeletal.” You meet his eyes then nod towards the food.

Law hums and picks up the bowl.

“Its tomato and egg soup, I grew the tomatoes myself and I added some white pepper and ginger. Tell me if you think it’s-“

Law gulped down the entire bowl in a few seconds and wiped his mouth with his hand. He placed the empty bowl back down on his desk. You raised your brow in surprise.

“Gods when was the last time you ate?”

“Hmm… yesterday?” Law grabs one of the books from his many stacks and opens to a marked page.

“These are texts on medieval creatures. It’s not devil fruits, but it might help us figure out what you’re capable of. If you look here- wait. I promised you coffee, didn’t I?”

You smile a little.

“That you did.”

“Well, excuse me then.” Law stands, shut the book and moves towards his coffee maker in the corner of his office.

As Law fiddles with his espresso machine, you take the time to get a good look around the room. You had barely spent any time in here so you wanted to see what Trafalgar Law, Surgeon of Death keeps in his safe space. It was bookshelves, mostly. The antique wood of the bookcases and the worn leather and suede of the furniture was sure a stark contrast to the cold steel flooring and walls. Everything was meticulously clean and organized, except there were tiny little human touches that didn’t go unnoticed by your. His wastebasket was full of empty shrimp-chip bags, crushed energy drink cans, and salt water taffy wrappers. This must be what he lives on when you don’t force him to eat.

“For a doctor, your diet sucks.” You chuckle as Law returns to the desk with two cups of coffee in hand. He hands you one and sits back down in his desk chair. He smirks.

“I forget about food.”

“That’s insane.”

“Is it?”

“Food is… so important! It fuels your body! Your brain! You can’t live off caffeine and carbs… but I think you know that, doc.”

Law rolls his eyes. “Thank you for the soup.” He opens a drawer in his desk and roots around before pulling out a small bottle of whiskey. He pours a shot or two into his coffee before handing you the bottle.

“Is this a good idea, after what happened the last time we drank together, Mr Trafalgar?” You smile cheekily at him before grabbing the bottle and pouring some into your cup of coffee.

Law blushes. Oh gods you had never seen him blush before. He was quite adorable when he was flustered…

Law makes a hand gesture as if it say “shut up” and cracks his book open again.

“A wyvern is much like a traditional dragon… scales, breathing fire, long tail, but the difference, as you know would be the wings. It’s clear you’ve harnessed quite a few of these attributes, but you’ve failed to unlock your full Zoan form. I think if you look at these pictures and notes, you might find some information that might help you.”

You look down at the dusty page. It was filled with vicious, fire breathing dragons ripping the heads off unsuspecting villagers.

“I…. I don’t know if I was to be just like… that…” You point down at the page.

“Of course not. That’s why you need to learn to control yourself and your abilities before you assume your final form and-“

“So I have to stop accidentally burning your eyebrows off?” You interject.

“That would be appreciated, yes.” Law responds, playfully annoyed. “Once you can burn my eyebrows off on purpose, we can move forward.”

You snort-laugh into your spiked coffee. Was he funny? Or was it the whiskey talking? First you think he’s cute, now you think he’s funny? Was it a full moon? Were you finally losing it?

“What’s with all those newspapers?” You take another sip of your drink and stand up. You walk towards the stack of old newspapers at the bottom of one of Law’s bookcases.

“It’s not for the newspapers. It’s for the comics.”

You nod your head down and give him a look.

“The comics?”

“Sora, Warrior of the Sea. It’s the greatest comic ever made. I have ever single issue ever made.”

“hmm… never heard of it.” You say as you flip through the stack.

“What? You’ve never heard of Sora? Stealth Black? It’s been running in the WENP for years.” Law asks.

“Nope, nothing rings a bell.”

“Grab the bottom one. Bring it here.”

You oblige and carefully pull Issue 1 from the bottom of the stack of papers. You bring it over to Law’s desk and he flips open immediately to the beginning of the comic strip. “See look, this is Sora. He’s a marine hero, and he fights against Germa 66. He’s got this robot here, see?”

Law points at the comic on the page and you listen intently. As he explains the years long lore of this fictional hero, you notice a certain sparkle in the pirate captain’s eye. He wasn’t looking at you, he was looking at the figures on the crusty old newspaper page with awe and splendor. You listened for what felt like ages about this nerdy comic strip, but you were mesmerized at the sight of Law finally showing interest in something.

“So who is this guy?” You point at a character on the page.

“Good question, this is a new character in this chapter so… wait you’re actually listening?” Law turns to finally meet your gaze.

“… yes? Why would I not be?” You cock your head.

“I-I just thought you’d be.. bored… or something..” Law still looks at the page.

“I’m not bored. I’ve never read this before. It’s interesting. Can we read one more? Tomorrow’s Sunday… no bed time, am I right?” You ask.

“O-Of course! If you want to!” Law quickly moves from his desk and grabs Issue 2 from the stack. He hurries back to his desk and opens up to the first comic panel.

“I-If you really want to see the art, you can move your chair over here…” Law scoots his desk chair over to make space for you on his side of the desk.

You oblige and move your chair to the other side of the desk so that you and Law were sitting shoulder to shoulder. He points to a character in the comic. “So if you see here…”

Law rambles through the entirety of the comic book with great interest. You alternate looking from the page to his shining face as he smiles, explaining the deep lore behind the story. You had never seen Law so impassioned about anything, let alone a nerdy piece of print media. The hour was drawing late and you yawn involuntarily.

“Hey, you should get to bed. You worked hard today.” Law closes the old newspaper.

“Hm. Thanks. You know I really want to hear more about Sora. Maybe we can read more another time?” You ask.

“R-really? I mean.. Yes. We can do that. Enjoy your day off.” Law replies with wide eyes.

“Goodnight, Law.” You smile as you head towards the door of Law’s office.

“Goodnight.”

You shut the cold steel door behind you and return to your room. Halfway through trudging through the base you realize you had a stupid grin plastered across your face. You sigh and push open the metal door to your room.

“Well, well, well.”

“Ah!” You jolt in surprise.

“It’s 12:30 AM. Where were you, miss girl?” Ikkaku cocks her head as she closes the gossip magazine she was reading while lounging on top of your bed.

“I-I told you I had a meeting!” You respond defensively.

“Alone? With the captain? Until the wee hours of the morning? Hmm?”

“OK don’t ‘miss girl’ me! He had some books he needed to show me!” You unzip your jumpsuit and start to brush your hair out for bed.

“That man doesn’t let anyone in his office for more than 10 minutes, let alone several hours! What the hell were you talking about!” Ikkaku asks you in an accusatory fashion.

“Oh my GODS, nothing! He wanted me to learn about my devil fruit powers and we got side tracked talking about that weird comic he likes!”

“Sora?”

“Yes, Sora. The Sea Warrior guy.”

“Damn.” Ikkaku opens up the magazine again and looks down.

“What?”

“He didn’t tell us about his boy-crush on Sora for YEARS! And you’re already reading it with him after a few months? You think I’m stupid?”

“What do you mean? Of course I don’t think that!”

“He likes you. Clearly. Do you like him?” Ikkaku cuts straight to the point.

“I… I don’t know yet.” You sit down on the bed next to her as you stripped yourself of your clothes. Ikkaku wraps an arm around you.

“And that’s okay. Just… be careful. You’ve been through enough, I’d hate to see you get your heart broken too.”

You sigh, relaxing into your pillows.

“I know… Hey… please don’t tell anyone about this, okay?” You look at her.

“of course.” Ikkaku holds out her pinky to you and you smile and hook it with your own. You press your foreheads together and laugh.

“Shit, if he starts getting laid it might be a lot more chill around here.”

You smack Ikkaku on the shoulder and the both of you fall into a fit of laughter.

The next morning you wake up at your own pace, thrilled to not have to train. You throw on some sweatpants and decide it’s time to get some breakfast. As you swing open the door to your stateroom you notice an ugly, dirty glass vase filled with marigolds and coneflowers at your doorstep.

You lean down and pick up the bouquet. It was put together haphazardly, but you recognized the blooms. These were from your garden. You pick up the arrangement and bring it to your nose, inhaling its fresh airy scent. You turn back and place the flowers on your vanity before heading to the kitchen for breakfast.

Ikkaku was at the stove making rice and eggs. You come up behind her and pinch her hip.

“Good morning.”

“Morning, sunshine!” Ikkaku turns her head and smiles at you. “I made a plate for you and one for the captain. Can you drop it by his room?” She smirks.

You roll your eyes.

“Yes ma’am.” You grab both plates and head to Law’s office.

Once reaching his door you shout instead of knocking.

“Chow time, Cap!”

The door opens and you push yourself in.

Law raises his head from his desk and clears it from the medical journals he was reading.

“Good morning.” You smile.

“Good morning, back.” Law looks at the plate you placed in front of him. “Guessing you weren’t on kitchen duty this morning?”

You laugh.

“Ikkaku makes a fine breakfast, you’re just getting spoiled.”

The two of you eat breakfast in silence for awhile.

“Y-You saw the flowers?” Law stutters out in between mouthfuls of rice.

“I did. They’re lovely.” You smirk. “So you snuck out into my garden and picked my flowers to give them to me?” You ask with a playful smile.

“T-that’s… the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard.. when you say it like that…” Law puts his fork down and rubs his eyes. Your heart pangs with sympathy. The man had tried.

“Hey, it’s the thought that counts. I loved them.” You finish your plate of food.

Law still doesn’t meet your gaze.

“Thank you for breakfast.” He says while finishing his plate.

“Thank you for the flowers, Law.” You picked up his plate and stacked it with yours. Before grabbing the tableware you make your way around Law’s desk.

You grab Law’s cheek in one hand and lean forward to kiss his other cheek. You let your lips linger on his skin before pulling back. Law freezes.

You take the dishes out of his office and back to the kitchen to clean. As you wash the dishes, you can’t help but worry… were you really going to get involved with this man? This relationship would have an expiration date… would that be fair to either of you? Did you care? He made butterflies erupt in your chest simply by being vulnerable… there was no denying that you felt something from that kiss, too. The noise in your head was too loud. It was time to take your red satchel and head out to the garden shed…

Franky

✿ Multiply his self-aggrandizing by 100, and that's how he sees you; he is your personal hype man! Every single insecurity, no matter how big or small, will be kissed away, because you are perfect, and you should definitely tell people as such. Wait, you're too shy and don't want to? No worries, Franky's got you, and he'll tell everyone himself. Loudly. No, he won't stop or tone it down; "The world needs to know how super you are!" He loves when you hype him up in turn, and uses it to show you how great self confidence is; and it will rub off on you. He's so proud when you declare how amazing you are, even if it's just to him! "AOW! That's right, babe, you are amazing!" He'll pick you up in those huge, strong arms of his, practically crushing you in a bear hug.

✿ Franky loves to make you any and all gadgets he thinks you'd like, or need. Just as he is constantly upgrading his body, he develops and re-develops things that make your life easier, or that bit cooler! While he likes to surprise you with them, seeing how your eyes light up in wonder as he shows you how it works, he loves it even more when you're involved in the building process; brainstorming ideas, designing, picking out the colour palette, he'll even let you use a blowtorch, just, please be careful, wait what was that twinkle of mischief in your eyes? Okay, no more blowtorch - leave it to the pro! It would kill him if you got hurt on his watch, he's meant to protect you!

✿ He's made up a comfy little alcove in his workshop so you can keep him company while he's working. Soft cushions, blankets, lights so can work on your own hobbies, it's perfect! Even when you were just friends, you were always welcome there, and it's become your little safe space. It's comfy enough to fall asleep there when Franky works late, and he even modified it so that there is room for him to sleep there too. While hanging out, you'll talk about everything, and nothing, what you're both working on, or you'll simply listen to music and enjoy each others presence, and that often leads to loud singing, especially on Franky's part. He'll share his cola with you too, you just bring the snacks - can't work on an empty stomach after all!

Robin

✿ Robin is very calm and reserved, especially compared to the rest of the crew, so her way of showing affection follows the same pattern. She'll put a gentle hand on your arm, and touch your foreheads together, but her favourite thing to do is to grow an arm out of your own, reaching down to hold your hand, all while on the other side of the room, smiling to herself. If your eyes are sharp, you'll catch the delicate blush on her cheeks when you bring your arm up to kiss her hand, or gently hold it to your cheek. She'll also make a pair of arms to wrap around your waist, or shoulders if you're sat down. She'll hold you personally too, but that is saved for your private quarters or the library.

✿ Part of her flirting is making dark comments and jokes; "I know the best way to your heart, dear." - "Through my stomach?" - "Oh no, that's not very efficient! It's anywhere between the 2nd and 4th ribs." She'll say it with such a loving gaze and gentle smile, and if you didn't know Robin better, you'd be worried she was plotting your murder, but that's just how she is, and you love her for it. She will also tell you all the gruesome details she finds in her books and research. Part of you suspects that she's purposefully trying to spook you so she can comfort you, but really she just finds these thing fascinating. Robin will be ecstatic if you can match her gallows humour, or if you have morbid facts of your own you can share with her.

✿ She takes great comfort in the fact that you love her unconditionally, and that you have always accepted her as she is, morbid interests, and former associations included, and she makes sure that you know she loves you all the same, no matter your quirks, flaws, and mistakes, for that is the beauty of love! You are each others port in the unrelenting storm of life.

Law

✿ Law is so used to losing the people he loves most, so for him to open up, it will take a lot of time, patience, and understanding. You can't push him on things, and will have to wait for him to come to you - he needs to feel like he has some control over the situation so he can make better judgement calls, and do something if it all goes wrong. It's nothing personal, he just doesn't want to helplessly watch his world fall apart again; he's older, smarter, and much stronger now, he will keep those he cares about safe. Once he's at that point where he feels like he's ready to be open and honest, he is completely dedicated and doggedly loyal, though he isn't very expressive with it.

✿ He shows his love through acts of service; making sure you are eating and sleeping well, tending any injuries you get in day to day life, moving you if you've fallen asleep in a weird place or position so you don't get any aches and pains, or catch a cold. Law hopes that you can feel the love he has for you in each action. He just wants to know you are healthy and well so he doesn't need to worry about you. Well, he says that, but he still worries, he can't help it. You'll need to use his own tactics against him to make sure he actually sleeps and eats instead of just working. It won't always work, sometimes he's working on things that are far too important, but he will relent otherwise.

✿ PDA is not a thing for him. At all. It's almost like he doesn't want to jinx things with the world seeing he has entrusted his heart with another again. On the Polar Tang, when it's just you and the crew, he'll be a little more open, placing a hand on your head or shoulder, matching your pace as he walks beside you, slightly gentler eyes, and the hint of a smile; so subtle, yet the crew sees right through him, and they like to tease you both. Nothing serious, but it still gets them the worst chores in response. In private, when you are alone is the only time will he allow himself to be vulnerable.

Kid

✿ Given how intense and aggressive he is, you have the patience of a goddamn saint, and guts to back you up. He refuses to lessen himself for anyone; he is who he is, and you can either accept it and embrace him fully, or you can, in his words, "Fuck right off!" It will take a lot to break through the immense barriers he has - he will shout, argue, insult, and to get through, you have to be able to withstand that without crumbling. Shout back! Show him you're not gonna let anyone walk all over you, not even him, earn his respect, then you can build up from there. Once you've wormed your way into that exclusive club of 'We aren't Killer, but Kid still cares about us," he will be ride or die with you, and when he realises he genuinely likes you, or hell, even loves you, he would burn down the world for you if you asked him to.

✿ Out in public, you get no special treatment. It's just safer that way. He can't afford to be looking over his shoulder every other minute to make sure no one is trying to get to him through you. He'll still keep an eye on you of course, but it's indistinguishable from him watching over the rest of the crew. On the Victoria Punk he will be possessive, but not affectionate. Kid will keep you by his side, or drag you onto his lap, just generally manhandling you really, there will be no mistaking who you belong to. Once you're alone he will actually soften up; he knows he's a lot, and he cares deep down, but he's still in charge, he is your captain after all. You should take advantage of this time to get all the affection out of him that you can!

✿ You're one of the few that are actually allowed to hang in his workshop, as long as you don't bother him. He'll entertain some conversation if he's just setting up, or having a break, but once he's in the zone, zip it. He's fine with you watching him work - he's good at what he does and he knows it, but seeing the admiration in your eyes is a nice ego boost. He'll make you things if the mood hits him, particularly bits of jewellery, as it makes it easier to manhandle you from the other side of the room. He's a busy man, he doesn't want to wait for you to look his way and walk over, he wants your attention now!

Killer

✿ Like Kid, Killer has a tendency to manhandle, but it's not nearly as aggressive; he's a big guy with big, strong muscles, and he just enjoys hauling you around like a sack of potatoes. It gives him the opportunity to hold you close, 'accidentally' touch your butt, and your laughter through it all is just so sweet. He greatly enjoys your presence when he's going about his day, and deeply appreciates any assistance you can offer, such as in the kitchen, and certainly when trying to manage his idiot best friend and crew, as he's essentially the de facto caretaker on board. Often you'll end up sat on his shoulders, acting as an extra pair of eyes and hands - no shenanigans go unnoticed!

✿ You have become an expert at reading Killer's moods and expressions through his mask, every slight shift of his body, and the angle of his head has a very specific meaning. It doesn't help that he's a quiet man in general; balancing Kid's incessant ranting and raving with his well thought out, straight to the point statements. He much prefers to listen to you talk, only talking when he has something to add to the mostly one-sided conversation. He loves having these 'chats' with you sat in his lap, head resting against his broad chest. Sometimes his goatee will tickle the top of your head, and he lives for those giggles.

✿ It will take a long time for him to feel comfortable enough to remove his mask, and you can bet he refuses to laugh around you for the longest time. Just be patient with him, and let him do things when he's ready, and don't make a big deal out of it if something slips; he'll be pretty mortified, so just giving him a loving smile and a gentle touch will reassure him that maybe the things he's insecure about, or straight up hates, aren't as big an issue as he believes them to be. Telling him he is perfect is appreciated, but not effective in building him up, since nothing is perfect really, but seeing you love him unconditionally certainly will give him a boost.

Breaking Up with Zoro(ANGST)

You guys actually are known for arguing in your relationship

You both argue at least once a day over something petty and everybody on the Sunny has come accustomed to it

“YOU CAN’T BRING A SWORD TO A GUN FIGHT ARE YOU INSANE?!”

“DOESNT MATTER I CAN KICK YOU AND ANY OTHER GUNSLINGERS ASS IF I NEEDED TO!”

“SHOCHU IS NOT BETTER THAN SAKE ARE YOU INSANE?!”

“UHHHH YES IT IS?!”

“WHY DO YOU ALWAYS FEEL THE NEED TO RAGE THE HELL OUT WHEN I SPEAK TO SANJI!”

“BECAUSE TWO PERVERTS SHOULDN’T BE IN A ROOM ALONE TOGETHER.”

“KISS MY ASS”

However one day you believe your argument may have turned for the worse.

You and Zoro have been actually having less interactions since you all met back up .

Zoro taken his role as the swordsman of the crew way more seriously and though you respect it and even admire it, it’s just you barely even communicate anymore. Not even petty arguments.

When you do start to try it he just breathes out his nose and finishes what he was doing as if he didn’t care to retort back

It just wasn’t the same between you and Zoro

And you even questioned If you and him were still together

Granted you both didn’t have much time to settle where your relationship was before separating, but you still wanted to at least talk about it, but you both never had time to do so

Intimacy has been long gone. When you seen him again he didn’t even hug you back he just patted your head

He doesn’t sleep in your room anymore. If he does it’s when you’re not in there and busy on watch

It started to get to you.

You wanted to wait and give it time but it’s been weeks now and it’s almost as if he subconsciously just broke up with you over the two years

You tried getting your mind off of it seeing as now there are bigger fish to fry and stronger enemies to defeat

Eventually you and the crew meet Law again and surprisingly you two hit it off better than him and anyone else on the crew.

He didn’t find you annoying—you were level headed and relatively nice to talk to so you managed to keep him company sometimes when he wanted to separate from all of the Strawhats

The attention he gave you was platonic but it was nice none the less—-you even managed to crack a smile out of him a few times

“Y/N-ya. Come help me with this, yeah?”

You both have amazing combat skills together too and it bought you some brownie points with him

Zoro However began to notice this friendship develop immediately

But he didn’t have time to ask you about it he needed to train more

Today though, he had some time

Zoro being Zoro was lost in the forest again but managed to somehow find you and Law sitting across from each other talking. You were laughing with him not even noticing the green haired swordsman approach you from the side.

“Lost again?” Law shot at Zoro still giving you eye contact.

Zoro Just grumbled, “NO! I just happened to find you both…we’re leaving this place soon so you both should wrap up your little date.” You frowned a bit at his tone. Date?

“Date?” You got up to follow him with Law a nice distance behind you both. “We were talking.”

“Yeah you two love doing that—“

“The hell is that supposed to mean?”

“Don’t mean shit. Keep walking.”

You’d be lying if you said you weren’t a tiny bit happy seeing that Zoro at least noticed and felt jealous about you and Law’s closeness. In reality though you actually didn’t do that to get back at Zoro you enjoyed Law’s company and was refreshing to be around.

You and Zoro bickered a bit walking around the forest not even realizing you three were walking in circles because ZORO was guiding y’all.

“So if you see me talking to another woman what you’re ganna think I’m gay now?!”

“Go ahead and be gay for all I give a fuck—“

“THAT’S NOT THE POINT IM TRYING TO MAKE—“

“Room.”

You both appeared in front of the Sunny not even realizing it still arguing.

“HEY!” Law yelled getting both of your attention walking in between you both, “We’re back. Come find me when you’re done, Y/N-ya.”

“We’re done Talking actually.” Zoro Shot back heading to the training room.

“Says who?! I ain’t finish asshole the hell is all this passive aggressiveness towards me?!”

“Oh, Shut the fuck up!”

“NO YOU SHUT THE FUCK UP YOU DON’T TELL ME WHAT TO DO ALL FUCKING MONTH I BEEN TRYING TO TALK TO YOU BUT YOU BEING THE DICK THAT YOU ARE JUST BEEN IGNORING ME AND THE FIRST TIME WE DO YOU WANNA FUCKING ARGUE SO FUCK YOU!”

It got awkwardly quiet on the ship. Sanji, and Nami gasped, Robin covered Chopper’s ears, Luffy and Usopp stopped playing, and Franky & Brook just paused.

Zoro looked like the vein in his head was about to explode. He was irritated beyond belief and the patience he barely had was already ran out.

“Go the fuck up the ladder now.”

You squinted your eyes at him. His teeth was gritted at yours and he began to breath a little harder. If he were to hit you you honestly wouldn’t be surprised at this point. You felt the rage coming from his body, he never got this angry with you and you never got this angry with him.

“If we aren’t ganna resolve our issues then I’m not going no where with you.”

“Resolve what exactly? The fact that you can’t be alone? Or the fact that you got bigger tits and you wanna flaunt them around to every guy you see because you crave male attention —-“

“Ain’t this a bitch— THAT’S what you think I’m doing?! You think I’m being some kind of slut or something?! I don’t need nobody’s mothafuckin’ attention if anything I’d like yours but it seems like your swords have all of it!—“

“Y/N..” Nami whispered, and walked over behind you to grab your arm since you started to approach Zoro as if your were ganna hit him.

She and Robin seen the hurt in your face for a while now when Zoro ignores you, they haven’t said anything about it but they had a feeling a fight like this was bound to happen.

“At least my swords don’t go around cheating.”

“Ch—-YOU THINK IM CHEATING ON YOU?”

“IM NOT FUCKING STUPID Y/N IVE SEEN HOW CLOSE YOUVE GOTTEN WITH THAT TRA-GUY—“

“IM ONLY CLOSE WITH HIM BECAUSE WE HAVE GOOD CONVERSATION. WE. COMMUNICATE. UNLIKE. YOU. AND I.” You pointed your finger back and fourth looking as if you were ready to shoot Zoro right then and there so Nami ran over out of worry and held you back by your arm and Usopp and Brook ran over to hold Zoro back because he had the same angry look in his eyes.

“IF YOU KNEW HOW TO SPEAK I WOULDN’T HAVE TO GO TO TALK TO OTHER MEN. Ever thought about that? Roronoa Zoro?”

Zoro stopped moving and just sighed pulling away from the two and walked the opposite way.

“Then keep communicating with him because we’re through. He can have you.”

It was almost as if none of your points were being heard. Your stomach dropped to your ass hearing him wanting to be done with you.

You scoffed.

Sanji was about to go and beat Zoro possibly to death for how he was speaking to you but you stopped him. It didn’t matter it wasn’t going to change anything.

“NO, ITS NOT OKAY YOU PIECE OF SHIT YOU DON’T TALK TO A WOMAN LIKE THAT—!”

“Sanji!” You Held him back fighting any slick of tear to fall down the rim of your waterline. “It’s fine….leave him.”

Weeks have past since the argument, the entire energy of the crew has changed. You and Zoro stayed Your distances and never even spoke a syllable to each other once. You don’t eat with the crew anymore no matter how many times Sanji tries to kick Zoro out, but you just try to avoid the trouble.

The girls tried making you feel better, even Luffy tried by doing stupid faces but you haven’t cracked a smile in you don’t know how long. Your face is deadpanned now but your eyes constantly look sad.

You don’t talk much at all either and it hurts, a literal pain in your chest. You’ve been having headaches and a bit of sickness as well. Usually when you feel bad Zoro pokes fun at you for not having his immune system and holds you all day making Sanji bring you soups and teas. But that’s in the long past and now you’re alone in your room. All the wonderful memories of you and Zoro pulled out some tears blurring your vision, you laughed at yourself with your cheeks now being stained, how stupid could you be to fall for him so hard?

Your chest hurts again. More than it did before it nearly felt like you couldn’t breathe, you hit the back of the wall and slid down crying in ache and pain in silence. Even moreso because now when you see Zoro from the times you mindlessly glanced at him, he looks happier to be without you than with you.

: ̗̀➛ [Luffy] Sexuality: Aspec. I'm very, very specific with this so I would have to write a whole paragraph to explain it well, but I'll try to do it in fewer words. I used to headcanon Luffy as asexual but the demi-sexual headcanon is growing on me. Only sexual with Zoro, though. Like- I ship Luffy with more people but imo he only feels sexually attracted to Zoro. Something something 'the bond between a captain and his first mate'. Romantic attraction: I can see him being demi-romantic (once again only romantic with Zoro. Or Sanji, even) but I personally see their relationship very Aroaspec QPR. Aromantic and Demi-sexual with a very deep bond with his first mate and his cook. Gender: Transmasc. Demi-boy. He/They. I think he, like, resonates more with being a boy but still doesn't fit the binary enough to be one. And transmasc because. Well. Have you seen him?

Playfully flirting doesn't equal genuine sexual attraction. Romantic attraction: Grayromantic Lesbian. Because, once again, people might not agree with me, but I think she doesn't have crushes often and she falls into more of a romantic gray area. Never with men, though. God forbid. Never with men. That much is clear, I hope. Gender: Demi-girl. She/They. My babygirl. My girlboss. Like I said with Luffy, I think she embraces being a girl but still doesn't fall into that term exactly and doesn't mind They/Them or more androgynous looks/terms at all. In fact, she loves them.

Something that always makes me and my BFF laugh is the fact that he's canonically very normal about women's bodies, unlike Brook or Sanji or even Franky. Like, he's pretty decent and respectful and he's, well, a normal human being. I appreciate the bare minimum when half of the characters are perverts sometimes. Romantic attraction: Birromantic. Pretty much the same thing I just said. Simple guy. So true, king. Although I like the Demi-romantic headcanon and I think he doesn't really get love at first sight and would be bothered by Sanji's view on this. I think Usopp is somebody who needs intimacy to develop a romantic crush on someone. lingering remnants (zoro x reader)

some fluff :) part of my artist!reader continuity (takes place after death's touch) but can as always be read standalone!

Zoro thought that any prickling feelings of jealousy under his skin had been discarded and forgotten about, but Law’s infatuation with you seemed so much more brazen under the scrutiny of daylight.

He follows close behind your every footstep, making hushed, snarky remarks that occasionally earn a snort from you as your paintbrush drags across primed wooden boards. Though he has surgical precision, his body haphazardly brushes against yours as the two of you walk towards the kitchen for lunch, making your eyes widen, cautiously bristling at the seemingly unintentional touch. Intent on monopolizing and consuming your time, Law runs you ragged by offering you caffeine in place of your daily afternoon nap. You see it—Zoro can tell by the flashes of worry that grace your features that the surgeon’s intentions are clear, but you grin and bear it, keeping a cheerful façade together despite cringing internally at the awkwardness of the situation.

It irritates Zoro, to his very core, that Law was so intent on having you, possessing you, when he had barely scratched the surface on knowing you. He was simply enamored with the playful, quiet remarks you’d make, and the interest you took in his hobbies that didn’t involve removing peoples’ organs; he enjoyed the interest in him and the easy conversation, as if you were no more than an accessory or prop to him. It was all so superficial.

Law hasn’t seen the way you grit your teeth as you work through more pain than your small frame is capable of handling during a particularly grueling training session, unable to do anything but let out a scream and push harder, or the way you bite your cheeks and growl when frustrated with a painting, when none of the brushstrokes and hues appear how you had envisioned them. The determination brimming in your eyes, not just to get stronger and protect your crew, but also to perfect your craft and reach your dream, was completely lost on the surgeon.

He wasn’t aware that you got an indescribable high from hanging between the jaws of danger; you often sit with Luffy after dinner, dangling off the head of the Sunny, book precariously held in your head as you read. You fall from your perch quite often, but are never deterred, and always caught by a pair of rubber arms before you reach the crashing waves, laughing as he reels you back up to your seat. Truthfully, the two of you were a pair of little monkeys, Zoro lays back and watches with a small smile as you constantly fling each other around the ship, often at the expense of a few bruises and scrapes; none of them mattered as long as you felt the wind whipping through your hair and the sensation of feet off the ground.

Law didn’t know how deeply you cared, taking care of each of your crewmates often at the expense of your own well-being. He’d never caught you comforting Nami with a warm embrace as she dealt with painful memories, rubbing Usopp’s back as he dealt with his insecurities, or drying dishes with the cook, listening to him ramble about fond memories of his mother, or missing the old man he missed so deeply and the restaurant that had for so long been his home.

He hasn’t seen the way you messily slurp your tea with Robin and Brook in the early afternoon, making quiet conversation while you narrow your eyes at the developing sketch on the page in front of you. And he’s never seen you buzzing, sloppy, intoxicated, and slumped over the table in the library, giggling maniacally to the point of tears. Law hasn’t had the privilege of seeing the light that illuminates both from your eyes and from your drunk laughter, bouncing erratically off the walls and into Robin’s ears as she gives you an amused, playful smile and ruffles your hair.

He’s been denied the sight of sunlight casting a golden glow on your hair as you shake him awake from a nap with a sleepy smile, a kiss to the forehead, and a dreamy sigh. The heat running across your flushed cheeks and the warmth of your loving gaze was a sight reserved for Zoro alone, so precious that the mere thought was enough to feed him during years spent apart. Light—emanating and dripping from your essence—shone from your very soul, and Zoro would give nearly anything to keep basking in it.

Law simply doesn’t know you like Zoro does, and he could never; to a man that lurks in darkness beneath the waves, the tickling of the sun’s rays on his forearms is foreign and strange. And though Zoro is willing to die at any time if necessary, you make him choose life.

“You okay?” you ask him, hopping up to sit precariously on the railing of the Sunny. Your stare is curious as it picks him apart lovingly, carefully studying and cherishing each piece before putting them back together.

“Just thinking about you.” he replies, his tone laced with a softness that rendered it nearly unrecognizable. It’s a tone reserved for special moments like these, when he’s thinking and feeling so much more than usual.

Warmth and raw emotion pouring from your expression causes blood to pool in his cheeks; your feelings are unabashed, and he’s grateful they’re always written all over your face. Gaining comfort and reassurance from one simple glance is something Zoro never thought he would crave, let alone become accustomed to.

“So was I.” you say, leaning in closer and pressing a soft kiss to his temple. As you look at him with a gentle smile, aglow and framed by the sunset, you’re radiant and lovestruck, and just for him.

Luffy -

Luffy likes tall people because it just means more person to hang on to. He likes wrapping his arms around you entirely to give you hugs and making you hold him above the floor. If you're super tall he might ask for a piggie back ride or to sit on your shoulders.

In a different way, Luffy finds long legs quite attractive. Doesn't matter what they look like, he just likes them a lot.

Zoro -

First meeting you, he was a little jealous. He's not short at all but the fact that you could lean on his shoulders or head is rather irritating, but in a way very attractive?

There's not much to say other than he warms up to you a lot, though craning his neck instead of looking down like he usually does for people is different.

Sanji -

You have awoken a beast inside of him that will now never go away. He likes it, he likes it a lot. You'd think he'd want a smaller partner to hold but no, this man likes being held and leaned over like he's small.

If you happen to have a decent chest, he will take advantage of the fact that his face is at the perfect height to lay on it.

Nami -

Unbothered by it to be honest. She won't notice much unless you're a significant amount taller than her.

It doesn't do things to her, but what does it the way you can lean over her and she'll feel your breath on her neck or head. Now that, does something.

Robin -

She appreciates a tall partner, but again it doesn't do things to her. She doesn't mind your height at all and will complement you regularly on it.

Lay on her, let her lay on you, either way she's enjoying herself.

Usopp -

He's never been with a taller partner, or anyone at all, so this is new. It's not bad, it's just new. He's getting used to having to ask you to reach very high shelves for him or spotting things.

Over time he'll come to like it a lot, especially if you have a long torso/back.

Franky -

Franky? More like freaky... This man loves your height, it makes him feel patite. It's a change in the regular and actually quite fun for him. But don't give in to his requests for you to hold him, he's too heavy and you will fall over.

If you have a long neck, know that this man is thinking things and not all of them are PG.

Brook -

Over 9' tall? It's rare, and it's appealing. He likes this, yes very much.

He's not got any meat on him so it's kind of uncomfortable to held or be held, but he likes to touch your stomach or where there's more flesh on you. Overall, being tall doesn't faze him.

Jinbe -

At first, he wasn't so sure. But the further you develop in the relationship, the more he warms up to it. Plus it helps that if you're taller than him he's less likely to worry about you or be so gentle with you.

Law -

Secretly loves this. Hold him like a baby, in private, he needs this to heal his inner child. But seriously he probably prefers taller people over shorter people, not to say he wouldn't go for someone smaller.

Long limbs wrapped around him or your hands holding his? He's dead, you've killed him. He's in heaven now.

Kid -

He's trying to fight you. When he's not trying to fight you he's trying to get in your pants.

Being taller means he's less likely to need to be gentle with you or look out for you so yes, this is a win in some way.

Killer -

He's getting used to it, bless his heart. It's not really a problem its just that he's around people taller then him all the time and now his partner has joined that group, he feels small.

Reassure him he's not, he'll feel better soon.
