Hello friends! Recently, I participated in the fourth HP Rare Pair fest, and with 81 unique and beautiful entries it was a veritable FEAST for the eyes and heart and soul. (Check out the whole collection here)

I wanted to take a moment to post highlights of the fics that just really brought me to my knees in hopes that you’ll fangirl/boy/person over them with me!

1. Evergreen by @thecouchsofa (23k)- Harry Potter x George Weasley What would happen if Harry asked George to go to the Yule Ball with him instead of Parvati? This GOF Yule Ball AU is sure to slay you with sheer adorableness. I couldn’t stop smiling and squealing through the whole thing. This rare pair is one of my favorites, and this fic went above and beyond, plus it’s the perfect holiday read! Rating: T

2. Lonely Creatures by @apricitydays-lazynights (5k)- Severus Snape x Giant Squid The prompt to put these two together could easily have been pure hentai crack nonsense (which is a brilliant option) but this story did things to me that I can’t even put into words. It’s tender, melancholy, and cuts to the heart of Severus Snape’s isolation and longing to be seen and loved. The details of this are so richly woven, and I particularly enjoyed the authors’ focus on Mermlish/Merfolk. Standing ovation to this fic! Rating: E

3. Slice of Night by SquibNation10 (9k)- Aurora Sinistra x Severus Snape This was the fic that took me the most by surprise. I love the creativity in taking a character who gets very few canon details and making them real and beautiful and believable. Auror Sinistra is divine in this, and I’ll give some honorable mentions to both Argus Filch and Rolanda Hooch as excellent supporting characters that also don’t typcially get a lot of spotlight. What a gorgeous slice of life fic! Rating: T

3. Quick Quotes and Quibbles by RainstormRadish (3k)- Luna Lovegood x Rita Skeeter Rita and Luna have to work together to cover the wedding of Neville Longbottom and Pansy Parkinson. There’s just something about a story told in unconventional medium that will always ALWAYS pull me in! This unlikely pairing comes together in the sweetest way, their strong personalities balancing each other out until they become a formidable team. I particularly loved the graphics and paper trail memos/epistolary style storytelling. Rating: T

4. Your seat, it’s the best seat by @the-houseryn (17k)- Ron Weasley x Draco Malfoy MOVE OVER only one bed, there’s a new trope in town and it’s the ONLY ONE SEAT trope!! This was sexy, flirtatous, and hot AF. I’m always down for a Dron fic, but this one is one of the best I’ve read in a while, with some delicious pining and a predictably oblivious Ron. Do yourself a favor and indulge in the lap-sitting fic of the year! Rating: E

5. Vivaldi and Hot Chocolate by @patriceavril (6k)- Percy Weasley x Stan Shunpike What was Percy up to in OTP/HBP? What a lonely life that must have been! This fic was soft and sweet, giving some much-needed love to a character that we all wrote off in canon for being a stuck-up prick. I love how Percy seeks out the warmth and comfort of the Knight Bus, coming back for more because of the kind-hearted and bubbly Stan Shunpike, who always insists on giving Percy free hot chocolate. I never expected to be so enamoured by this pairing, but I am! Rating: T

6. The monster you feed by @ghostfelicis188 (11k)- Regulus Black x Remus Lupin This canon-compliant fic tore me to shreds. TO SHREDS. Like, I am such a simp for tragic Remus romances, and this took the cake. Features: pining artist Remus, and shit-eating cruel Regulus who toys with Remus the whole damn fic. If you like hurt no comfort, this is the fic for you. *Chefs Kiss* Rating: M

7. Gilded Web by @emilyrickman AlihotsyTotsy (8k)- George Weasley x Blaise Zabini I cannot believe that this understated fic packed such a punch in 8,000 words. George agrees to an undercover operation to investigate the mysterious deaths of Mrs. Zabini’s deceased husbands. He is so pure in this, his characterization charming and believable, I just need more of this George! Bonus points for references to “the Sting” Rating: M

8. Sleeping with Ghosts by @ghaniblue (21k)- Harry Potter x Regulus Black x Draco Malfoy My initial thoughts when encountering this relationship tag was something akin to a bewildered head scratch but OMG the best thing about this fest is having expectations completely upended! This fic slayed hard with a slow burn, found family, semi-sentient house renovation angle that had me completely melted by the end. Rating: M

9. The Last Trial of Peter Petegrew by @sleepstxtic (20 k)- Peter Petegrew x James Potter If possible, I’d like to ram this fic down the throats of all my mutuals with a plea to PLEASE READ THIS FIC. I can’t begin to describe in a tiny paragraph what this did to me. Often Peter Petegrew is relegated to the traitor bus in fandom (understandable) but this took every mean and traitorous part of his character and made me almost like him despite his treachery! The format of this was also a delight to read, and I love that Hermione presents the case for Peter Petegrew in this meta purgatory-style courtroom drama. Rating: M

10. Anatomy of a memory by @venom0usbarbie (9k)- Ginny Weasley x Tom Riddle This story was pure poetry wrapped in a sinister diary-shaped package. I love the self-fulfilling prophecy nature of this time loop style storyline, as well as the toxic obsession and manipulation played out between Ginny and Tom. What a mindfuck ending that was, too! Kudos to the “Tom Riddle is his own Warning” tag. Rating: M

11. Sweet Boy by @maraudersaffair (6k)- Narcissa Black Malfoy x Harry Potter A not-quite-fake dating fic with lots of smut, thirst, and mommy/praise kink? Yes, please! I was literally panting by the end of this, Harry and Narcissa are so hot together! Rating: E

12. Growing Suspicion by nocturn (1.8k)- Neville Longbottom x Marcus Flint Someone keeps mutilating Neville’s plants, and he’s going to get to the bottom of it OR that time Marcus expresses feelings but doesn’t understand proper plant care. This fic was A-DOR-ABLE. Love me a good Hogwarts professors/staff fic, and this was just a bite-sized delight to read. Rating: G

13. For Your Burning Gaze by SquibNation10 (22k)- Neville Longbottom x Pansy Parkinson The fic that I most want to see a sequel for award goes to… this Twilight Zone post-war marriage law fic complete with creepy house elves and a very troubled Pansy, who seems to be the only one realizing that something is not quite right! This is one of the best Panville fics I’ve read, I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. Rating: E

Slice of Night, by SquibNation10

One of my favorite fics from this year's rare pair fest. Aurora Sinistra/Severus Snape is not a ship that would have occurred to me, but it's absolutely gorgeous. I love how Aurora is fleshed out from a character who is barely seen in canon to a three-dimensional person. It's interesting to think about what it would be like to work the night shift at Hogwarts, teaching on a very different schedule from her colleagues. Her relationship with Snape is compelling, but also complicated and bittersweet, because this is a canon compliant fic that includes HBP and DH.

Some Ravenclaw!Severus hc! (plus Aurora and Charity) sorry for the grammatical errors.

-At first he was quite disappointed for not being in the same house as his mother.

-in addition to Lily, he became a great friend of Charity and Aurora, having a friendly academic rivalry with Aurora.

-He distanced himself from Lily in a natural and healthy way, still keeping in touch when they needed each other, but each one spending more time with people from the same house.

-He spent whole hours studying in the Astronomy Tower alone, until Charity came looking for him.

-He had an academic friendship with Remus, which was based on studying together in the library.

-The marauders still bullied him but it was in minor grade, i genuinely think he being slytherin affected a big part of it (bastards).

-He was still deeply interested in the dark arts and created curses for a simple academic challenge.

-He did not have a friendship with pandora, but they talked to each other when they had tasks together.

-He was considered the most "slytherin" Ravenclaw, being somewhat feared for his biting sarcasm and humor.

- Most of Ravenclaw asked him for help with homework, since he was the smartest, although they were aware that his patience when teaching was not the best.

-Severus sometimes forgets to eat completely because he is reading a book, so Aurora and Charity take it upon themselves to drag him to the great hall.

-Despite being a Hufflepuff Charity knows Ravenclaw's password, and Ravenclaws are used to seeing her in the common room with Severus, or in Aurora's room, they don't care much, they all love Charity.

-Charity and Severus taught Aurora Muggle music, and they love listening to ABBA together.

- They go together to the forbidden forest hidden to get potion recipes (mainly Severus) and to pet the animals there (Charity) Aurora does not agree but she goes with them anyway to take care of them.

-At Christmas they stay together at Hogwarts and have sleepovers.

-The only slytherin who speaks to him is Evan Rosier because once they had to be partners in a class and they get along quite well.

Only A Matter Of Time - Chapter Four

Sirius and James let out a loud groan when they heard that Professor Sprout would divide them into random pairs of two for their next assignment. Rory nervously watched as her friends got partnered up with other people.

“Blythe, Aurora with Evans, Lily,” the Professor read from her list. The girl with the bright red hair Rory had followed to Potions on her first day whipped her head around and with a smile. When the Professor was done dividing up the class, the two girls found a seat near the entrance of the greenhouse. Their assignment was to repot a Dittany plant, care for it for a whole week and write an essay on the magical properties and uses of the plant.

Rory was already excited to get started on the essay as she knew Dittany was a very versatile plant and she would probably be able to research it’s uses for hours.

Lily went to pick up their plant, while Rory got a new pot and the ingredients they would need to mix the soil. She had already read way past that point in her textbook and did not need to check what they would need.

“You’re friends with those boys from my house, right? The loud ones, I mean,” Lily started up a conversation and continued when Rory gave a nod. “Did you know them before school started?”

“I’ve known Sirius since we were little. And we met James on the train. Remus and Peter I met when classes started,” Rory told her while she mixed the Sphagnum Peat Moss into into a mixture of compost and wood chips.

“That’s cool. I just assumed you’ve all already known each other. You seem so close already.” Lily handed Rory some Perlite as she was instructed by the girl. “I wish I had found a group of friends that quickly. But I get along really well with my dormmates now, we hang out a lot. But the first week of term my only friend was Severus.”

Rory stiffened at the name but tried to act natural. They finished mixing their soil and Lily asked if she could try to repot the plant. Rory explained to her how to do it, not even glancing at the instructions in the book, and Lily managed to do it perfectly. The redhead held her hand up for a high five and Rory was glad that Peter had told her what the gesture meant, or she would have not known what to do.

They were the first group to finish repotting their plant, and after cleaning up their table they got out some parchment and their books, copying down some notes for their essay. Before class was over they also agreed that Rory would take the plant to her dorm, as the light in the spot next to her dorm window would be perfect.

“Hey, tomorrow after dinner me and some of my friends will be studying in the library. Would you maybe want to join us?” Lily asked her, shouldering her bag. “We could work some more on that assignment. Get it out of the way before the weekend.”

Rory’s mouth spread into a smile at the invitation. “Sure, I’ll be there,” she told the other girl, before meeting up with her friends outside the greenhouse. Had she really just managed to make a friend without Sirius’ help?

“What are you all smiley about?” Sirius asked her when she walked up to them.

“I have a study date,” she told him with a grin, bumping his shoulder as they walked side by side. “With Lily and her friends.”

“Evans?” James butted in, throwing an arm around Rory’s shoulders. “She’s so pretty. Did she say anything about me?”

“No, why would she?” Rory did not want to tell them that they had in fact talked quite a bit about the boys for the remainder of class.

“I think she’s into me,” James whispered in her ear as if it was a secret and as if he was able to whisper quietly enough for the others not to hear. That boy really did not have the ability to be quiet.

“In your dreams, Potter,” Rory said and pushed his face away. He pretended to be offended for a moment, before pulling her back under his arm.

“Put in a good word for me on your study date, will you?”

Lily and her friends were already there when Rory arrived at the library. They had claimed one of the long tables at the back of the room, books and parchment already strewn all over it. Lily got up when she saw her, grabbing her by the arm and pulling her over.

“This is the girl I’ve told you about. The one who’s basically a lexicon when it comes to herbology,” Lily told the other two girls sitting at the table.

Rory waved at them awkwardly. “Hi, I’m Rory. Thanks for letting me study with you.”

“No problem. You’re probably in desperate need for a break from those boys you’re always with,” one of them said and shot her a smile. She had her tight curls pulled up into a bun, having tied her Gryffindor tie around it in a bow to hold it in place. Rory thought she looked effortlessly cool. “I’m Mary, by the way.”

“And I’m Marlene,” the girl with the blonde pigtails next to her spoke up. “Here, take a seat. I’ll make some room for you.”

She shuffled some of the papers out of the way to make space for Rory to place her things. Rory took a seat next to Marlene, Lily dropping down in the chair across from her. She already had her herbology notes out and the two girls immediately started comparing their research.

Not even an hour later the two had managed to finish their essay. Marlene offered to check it over for them if they helped her with her Potions homework. Soon, however, the studying was completely forgotten.

Mrs. Pince had already shot them several warning glances when their giggling became too loud. Marlene was just telling them about the boy who had been following her around to carry her books all week when her eyes fell to the big clock on the wall.

“Oh, Merlin. It’s almost curfew already and I still haven’t finished my Potions homework for tomorrow.”

Rory remembered that she had offered the girl her help and placed her hand on her shoulder. “Remus found this book a couple days ago that he said really helped him understand the importance of the right stirring speed and direction. Wait here, I’ll go get it for you.”

“Thanks, Rory,” Marlene smiled at her as the dark-haired girl stood up to get the book from the Potions section. She hoped she was able to find it. She did not remember the name or the author, but she was sure she would recognize it when she saw the cover.

She was running her hand along the spines, pulling a book out from time to time to look at the cover, before putting it back. Grinning when she finally pulled out the right one, she was about to turn and walk back to their table when her back was pushed into the shelf behind her.

She looked up to find the familiar dark eyes of her cousin staring back at her. Rolling her eyes, she triedpushing him away, but he grabbed both of her wrists, pinning them against the wood behind her, the book falling from her hands.

“What do you want?” she spat at him, giving up her tries at getting away from him.

“Are you aware you’re sitting with two mudbloods and a half-breed? What do you think your father would say about that?” he sneered down at her.

“Leave me alone, Atticus. Don’t you have anything better to do?” Rory tried to wriggle out of his grip one more time only for his hold on her wrists to tighten even more. “You’re hurting me! Let me go or I’ll tell my parents.”

“And you think your father didn’t give me permission? That’s cute, but you know him better than that,” he said with a smirk, and she knew he was telling the truth.

“What exactly do you want from me?” she asked him again, trying her best to look him straight in the eyes and not to look or sound as afraid as she felt.

“I want you to stop associating with the wrong kind of people. I haven’t told your father that you’re still hanging around with your little group of boyfriends because at least Potter and Black are purebloods, and he already knows about them,” he told her and stepped even closer, enough for her to feel his breath on her face. “But if you start surrounding yourself with even more dirty blood I’ll have to write him about it. I’m sure neither of us wants that to happen, do we?”

Rory quietly shook her head no, not trusting her voice enough to talk. He released his hold on her wrists and stepped back a bit.

“I only want what’s best for you, yeah? I was told to keep an eye out for you,” he said and ruffled through her hair. Rory clenched her hands tight enough to leave tiny moon shaped marks on her palms. “Do we understand each other?”

Rory nodded weakly, not looking up at him as he grinned at her. “Good. Now go,” he quickly slapped the back of her head as he started in the other direction.

Trying to even out her breath, she sat down against the bookshelf for a moment, the book she got for Marlene pressed tightly to her chest. She eventually calmed herself down enough to get up and walk back to the girls.

Without looking at them she dropped the book in front of Marlene and started gathering up her stuff, pushing everything into her bag. “I’m sorry, but I have to go,” she muttered and turned to leave, hurrying out of the library and into the direction of her dorm, leaving the three Gryffindors behind with confusion written over their faces.

Rory had successfully avoided Lily and her friends during classes the following day. She had gone to breakfast early enough to be sure none of them would be there and had skipped lunch altogether, not feeling too hungry anyways and using the extra time to sit by outside and draw a sketch of the lake.

The boys caught her after their last lesson and convinced her to come hang out with them. They stepped through the portrait to find an eerily empty common room, which meant they were able to sit on their favourite sofa again.

As usual, Remus pulled out a book as he sat down, Rory following suit, pulling out her sketchbook and laying down with her head on his lap. Peter lifted up her legs to slide onto the sofa beneath them before dropping them into his own lap.

Before she was even able to find the page she was working on she felt something being placed on her stomach and looked up. She found a wrapped-up sandwich and a beet-red Peter.

“You didn’t have any lunch,” he stuttered out when he noticed her looking at him.

“Oh, thanks, Pete. I’ll have it later, yeah?” She felt her own cheeks warming up and knew both Sirius and James were wiggling their eyebrows at her. Rory eventually grew bored and closed her sketchbook, letting it drop to the floor. And she was admittedly feeling quite hungry by now and dinner was still more than an hour away.

She grabbed the sandwich Peter had brought her, sitting up and shooting the shorter boy a quick smile before taking a bite. Her heart dropped when the portrait opened and Lily, Marlene and Mary walked in. Lily saw her sitting with the boys and told her friends to go on without her.

She waited for the other two girls to walk upstairs before she approached the group sitting near the fire, fiddling with her hands.

“Hello, Rory,” Lily addressed her, catching the attention of James and Sirius as well. "Could we talk for a minute?”

Rory swallowed before answering, trying to give herself a moment more time before she had to answer. “I’m sorry, Lily. But I’m kind of busy right now,” she told the redhead mentioning to the sandwich in her hand.

“Oh, okay.” Lily turned around to leave, before changing her mind and turning back to face Rory again. “Did we do something? It’s just that you kind of ran out on us last night. And I feel like you’ve been avoiding me all day.”

“You didn’t do anything wrong, it’s just that I’m…,” Rory trailed off, her brain coming up with nothing that would explain her behaviour and let the girl down without hurting her.

“You know, if you didn’t want to hang out with us, you could have just said so.”

Watching Lily turn and bolt up the stairs felt like a slap to the face. The looks her friends were giving her did not feel so good either.

“That was kind of rude,” Sirius said, his brows furrowed, trying to figure out what was going on with his friend. “What happened? You were so excited about spending time with them yesterday.”

“I’m just not feeling too well, and I don’t want to talk to them right now,” she told Sirius and started getting up, wrapping the sandwich back up and pushing it into her bag.

“Where are you going? We’re still talking about this,” Sirius yelled after her as she made her way to the portrait.

“I’m tired, I’ll talk to you guys tomorrow,” she called back and slipped out into the hallway.

She had not even taken three steps when the portrait opened behind her, and she knew it was Sirius following her.

“Hey, stop and talk to me,” he reached her quickly and stood in front of her, blocking her way. “Why aren’t you feeling well?”

“It’s nothing. I’m just tired, okay? Can you please just let me go?” she pleaded with him, but she knew the tone of her voice tipped her off.

“Talk to me, Rore. You know I’m not going to let this go.” She could see worry in his eyes as he put both of his hands on her shoulders.

“Atticus told me to stay away from them,” she muttered, eyes meeting the floor.

“What?”

“Atticus cornered me in the library and told me not to talk to them. If I do, he will tell my father,” she explained timidly.

He dropped his hands from her shoulders making her look up at him again. “And you’re just going to do whatever he tells you to do?”

“I just don’t want to make it worse, Siri. I don’t want to make him even more angry.”

“So, what? Next you’re going to stop talking to Remus and Peter, too? Just because he told you so?” Sirius sounded angry now. “I thought you were better than them.”

Rory felt tears well up in her eyes. “But I am. I would never do that. I just don’t want to make it worse than it already is.”

“Maybe you’re not as bad as them,” Sirius told her, not meeting her eyes anymore, “but it still makes you a coward.”

She could not hold back the tears anymore as she watched him retreat back into the Gryffindor tower, leaving her alone in the empty hallway. The lady in the portrait sent her a pitying look, but before she could say anything, Rory spun around on her heels and started running to the next bathroom she could find, letting herself sob loudly in one of the stalls.

My old friend🌹

Working at Hogwarts is the best thing that’s happened to me, I get to be surrounded by warm people. I was a professor, a professor for the dark arts, although it’s only temporary after the incident with Lupin they’ve been searching around for a good teacher. I’ll explain during my younger years at Hogwarts I studied hard to try and become an aurora however my skills weren’t on the same level as the smarter witches. My family were well known in the dark arts division, my mother was a strong aurora who knew defensive spells while my father worked at Hogwarts. I was quite a strong witch, Dumbledore even stated “following your family’s path doesn’t mean you have to be great, you’re quite a strong witch on your own y/n and I admire your courage and bravery for such a dangerous life path”.

I wasn’t exactly rich in fact I was rather poor, finding a job with my skill set wasn’t exactly easy. I thought about owning a dark artifacts shop, they often come off as popular, but I want to do more then just sit around and wait for someone to buy something. I wanted to help the wizarding world and defend students from evil people, I met Dumbledore a few years after Hogwarts.

I was sitting in Hogsmeade alone, I had no one to talk to nor even have anyone to pay attention to. An old man sat next to me and asked me “Why hello y/n, it’s been sometime old friend hasn’t it” the glint in his voice sounded familiar. “Professor Dumbledore, Merlin’s beard it’s been years since I’ve seen you, are you grabbing a butterbeer too?” I questioned, Holy jumping crickets I would never expect to find him here. “No dear y/n, I’m afraid that’s not why I came you see, your family has been known to be quite famous in the dark arts” Dumbledore smiled softly, “I’ve seen many talented witches and wizards for my time, but none have come close to you, would you like a job in Hogwarts”.

I nearly spat out my butterbeer, my eyes were full of confusion and yet happiness. Dumbledore softly laughed to himself as he saw my face with a moustache of butterbeer across my lips. “Yes sir, uh Professor Dumbledore sir” I was rather giddy inside, Sweet Dragon pop rocks I’m finally something I’ve wanted to be.

So that’s how I earned my title as a professor, most of my students were rather kind and giving. Well, the Slytherins think I’m Ridiculous, I’ve had quite a handful of comments from Malfoy and his gang although a teacher has a few tricks up her sleeve. I had quite a few fans mostly from the Gryffindors and Ravenclaws, I had met a very famous young wizard indeed, Harry potter. I don’t think I’ve ever met a brighter young wizard in my life, Granger and Weasley on the other hand were certainly a delight. Granger often got all the answers correct and performed her spells at an excellent rate, she is rather fun to talk to. Weasley is quite goofy although he is brave at heart.

The classes were exceptionally hard at times, I wanted to help the students learn something great. In my younger years of Hogwarts, I wanted to be like my father, a Defence against the dark arts professor, although my mind was already set on becoming an aurora for the wizarding world.

I must admit when I was working here, I had no idea Severus would be working here as well, he was a potions teacher and a wicked one at that. I have memories of the small boy sitting in the corner of the class not speaking to anyone. I never really caught up with him as I didn’t want to be a bother but from what Longbottom and potter tell me he seems heinous towards his students. Believe it or not that potions professor used to be the only one I loved; I couldn’t approach him not because I was nervous but there was already a girl he fell deeply infatuated with.

When I heard, he was aiming to become a death eater, I could not bear to see him, they were the people my mother was trying to save us from. Death eaters if your wondering are very terrible, terrible people that support the dark lord. They’ve murdered countless of lives and by merlin they’ve nearly killed me when I was a child. I was lucky enough to have my father there although, it cost his life. My mother fell with grief, and I swore to help students who’s been affected by those terrible wizards.

I had heard the terrible news; the girl Severus knew had passed away. I felt so bad that I could not bear to see him miserable, it was never me anyways, it was always her.

So, if you are wondering where I am right now, I am drinking my old soul away with butterbeer. Hogsmeade is a good place to get away from the stress of teaching. I gulped the last cup for the night, it was Christmas after all, and I often spent it with my mother although tonight it was not the best time. I was lonely, everyone outside had left to go back to their families.

I got up from the chair and bid the bartender goodnight, stepping outside into the freezing air was rather unpleasant. “You’re here” a dull voice spoke from behind “oh Ah! Severus merlin’s beard you scare me”. I couldn’t move, my face went redder as the snow blew “it’s been some time y/n” Severus’s expressions hadn’t even changed, he was still the same stone-cold man many students had feared. “Yeah I, I suppose it has been Sevy” I felt weird saying that but back then that’s what I nicknamed him. Severus grabbed my arm from beneath his cloak and helped me inside “Your freezing y/n, have you been really that stupid enough to forget to that heating potion”.

I couldn’t even think, my nose was running like a cold, wet, dripping tap. “Your absurd y/n, you would’ve ended up catching cold” Severus was rather worried in a weird way, he never really took care of me before. “Don’t pressure yourself Sevy I’m fine” I shivered, he placed me in front of the fireplace “your cold you stupid girl” he complained “but Sevy-”.

“Hush” he firmly ordered, “two butterbeers” he pulled out some knuts and galleons to pay for the drinks. I smiled softly to myself; it was the first time anyone had cared about my safety “Thanks Sevy”. Severus raised an eyebrow and drunk the butterbeer, even I couldn’t understand how he didn’t get a moustache from that. “I do hope your forgetful mind will remember to keep warm during the winter” he raised an eyebrow “S-So how’s classes been Sevy”. Perhaps it was just me but when I knew the man when he was younger, he was so shy he couldn’t speak to anyone and Merlin he was bullied.

I was the one to stand up for him even after the marauders had damaged or harmed him. “Do you remember when we went nearby the black lake and we would eat together” I remember the day like it was no other, the sun was shining, our skin felt the warmth rays touching our faces. I was laying down and he reached for my hand, for the first time I saw Severus smile.

“My Classes are imprudent and yet tolerable if the students behave” he drunk more of the butter beer further continuing on the question I had asked, he answered “Indeed, it seems long ago” he softly muttered. I felt warmer with him, it may have been the fire but the tips of my cheeks and nose were going somewhat red. I had no intention of muttering these very words out, but it seemed like he had moved on and it was an emotional scene. “Severus back at school, back when we were young, I had always admired you, you were the only boy to make my heart pound like a troll beating a rock”.

“I knew you had your own life and friends but to this day I couldn’t stop thinking about you” I was a bit tired and misty eyes, so I thought about the memories we shared. I blame my emotional behind for getting weepy. I was expecting Severus to call me a “dunderhead” or “foolish” but instead what I got was “You’re an exceptionally talented witch y/n, even if you’re a dunderhead at times” he softly admits.

I felt a sensation coming over me, leaning in towards his lips was an interesting experience. I pressed my soft lips against his, it wasn’t at all like snogging. This was my first kiss and when I parted the scent of old leather lingered, Severus stared at me with widened eyes. He stuttered “Y-you care for me after all this time” it was like the little boy he used to be was back.

“Always”.
