I'm always happy to share some headcanons!

Since Carol is basically indestructible, Monica and Kamala will just throw random things at her. This includes books, phones, hard light crystals, waterbottles and one time a microwave.

Monica is the only one who has a drivers licence. Carol can drive but hasn't renewed her licence since the 80's. Kamala can't drive but is amazing at Mario Kart and always insists that she can drive a car as long as Coconut Mall music is playing whilst she's driving it.

After learning what Ao3 is Carol starting reading fanfic about herself because she's nosy.

Monica writes Star Wars fanfiction. Like the longfic, super well written, very lore invested kind.

Monica is a god at making powerpoints. She knows every tip and trick there is.

Kamala created a Minecraft realm and forced convinced Monica and Carol to play with her. The two of them have no stuff because they're absolutely shit at it and just freeload off Kamala's multi millon block megabase which has every item, build and farm known to man.

Carol did a "Captain Marvel answers the Internets most searched questions" interview, except she answered the questions super cryptically and just made everyone a billion times more confused.

Monica technically keeps her identity a secret but she doesn't wear a mask. Like she'll take selfies with fans and say "Yeah my name is Monica" but whenever the government try and approach her she's like "Wdym. My name isn't Monica. Prove that my name is Monica."

Kamala is one of the people who are like "I'm gonna learn a new language" and signs up for seventy Memrise courses and then forgets about them. She has started Basic French Animals seven times.

Carol is warm. Space is cold. Whenever they're in space, Monica and Kamala try to find not-so-subtle reasons to hug her because she's basically a heater.

Kamala wanted to adopt a flerkitten but her ammi said no. Monica adopted the flerkitten instead and Kamala insists on giving the flerkitten at least 2583057 treats whenever she visits.

Monica uses her powers to reach through people whenever they're in the way instead of asking them to move. It's a little bit unsettling because you could be stood in front of an oven and she'll just stick her hand through your stomach to adjust a dial. She finds it hilarious though.

Kamala made an official Ms Marvel TikTok. Someone dared to comment that she didn't know Captain Marvel, so she posted a TikTok of Carol falling down the stairs. It went viral and got 12 million views.

Study Break ft. John Marino

a/n: for all my john lovers here you go, a sweet angel baby

There was no amount of caffeine that could possibly get you through exam week. You stared endlessly at your computer screen and your eyes were starting to burn. Plus you were running low on your most recent cup of coffee. How were you supposed to pass this exam and why was it worth so many points to begin with? You also knew the more nervous you were about it the more likely you were to not do well and it had nothing to do with not knowing the content and all to do with nerves.

A cup of coffee was placed in front of you and you were confused as to who was interrupting your study session. Your eyes went up to a cute boy, one that you were sure you had seen here a couple of times before but you had never actually talked to. “I asked them what your usual was and they told me this so I hope it’s right.” He explained and you looked at him, still confused as to why he was giving you coffee.

“You looked stressed and I thought it would help. I also got you a chocolate chip muffin if you like those.” He set the muffin down that he had been holding. “Oh, thank you. You really didn’t have to do all of that.” He quickly waved your words off and held his hand out to shake yours. “I’m John, by the way. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen you here a couple of times but you’ve never looked this stress.”

“Exams.” You explained, one word was all you really needed. “I can help you study if you want, I know a few tricks to help when it comes to studying.” Maybe it wouldn’t be a bad idea to have him help. You moved your bag from the empty chair next to you so he could sit there. Pushing your computer in between the two of you so he could see what you were looking at. Grabbing the muffin he got you, you ate some and held some out for him as well figuring you might as well share.

Studying actually felt a lot nicer with him and he was right, he knew some tricks that were pretty helpful and some of them even included tips on remaining calm and not psyching yourself out during the exam itself. “Thank you so much for helping me out today. I was one more powerpoint away from a breakdown so I appreciate it. I owe you coffee next time.” You told him and a small smile grew on his lips.

“Well actually, do you think maybe you’d want to go out to eat sometime this week? Like a date or well it doesn’t have to be a date at all. Completely up to you.” He rambled and you let out a small laugh. “That sounds nice, how about we celebrate me finishing my exams this week by doing dinner on Saturday?” He quickly nodded his head at your idea. “We’ll celebrate you passing for sure.”

peter starting class one day by turning off the lights and locking the door and pulling down the projector screen to reveal a powerpoint presentation he made at 4 am titled HOW TO NOT GET KILLED and it’s just tips and tricks for teenage vigilantes and one kid is like “mr parker how do you know all this” and peter’s like “i don’t know a friend or something.pay attention”

im considering dming curse of strahd in the near future, got any tips or warnings? :-)

ABSOLUTELY

so first of all, disclaimer, this strahd campaign is my first ever attempt at dming. you'll hear a lot of people say it's not a good choice for a first time dm, but i disagree! maybe that's because all my players are newbies and don't catch when i mess up, or because i'm playing a very "the rules come second, the story comes first" kind of game, or because i've also done CoS as a player before so i was already familiar. either way, i'm having a blast, and the story is excellent

first tip: read the book. i recommend reading the chapters out of order, though - each chapter is a different location, and they're not in the order your players are likely to come across them (for instance, strahd's castle is chapter 4. literally why) so i looked at the map of barovia, looked at what locations my players were likely hit and when, and read in that order instead.

there are tons of online resources for curse of strahd. TONS. there's a huge community on the CoS subreddit, and it's chock full of tips, tricks, extras, new ideas, add-ons, fanart, you name it. look up maps for locations that aren't given maps in the book, and you'll find like five separate people have already done it and posted it online for anyone to use. speaking of which, i've recently made a powerpoint with a bunch of maps on it so i can hook up my laptop to my TV and project the maps up for my players to see while we're playing (complete with little animations to reveal secret rooms when/if they find them) and that's been working out great so far

there are also lots of videos on CoS, and i highly recommend lunch box heroes on youtube. i've watched every single video in this playlist and it has helped so, so much. i'm using a bunch of deviations from the book in my campaign that this guy specifically gave me the idea to use

my biggest tip: make sure your players all have a good reason to hate strahd. for a lot of them, this will come naturally (for instance, maybe one of your players will try romancing strahd's alter ego and unknowingly set themselves up for the heartbreak of the century 🙃) but for a lot of them, you may have to orchestrate a good reason. throw one of their spouses in the castle dungeon like my dm did to me! it helps so much in getting them invested in the plot if they want to kill that guy in the castle so fucking bad dude let me at him

but yeah, other than that... have fun! don't take what's in the book as gospel, just use it as a guideline for the story. ultimately your players are going to hugely affect how the story goes, so don't get too attached to certain plot hooks that may get turned on their head or may just never happen. roll with the punches, learn to improvise, and practice your best vaguely eastern european accent for the barovian npcs :)

do your homework shen!!! Its quick and easy and its free and you'll be done in no time and the stress will be gone. powerpoints arent that bad right. copy and paste stuff u need. I usually run info in my language through a translator & then translate it back myself into my language so its harder to notice that I stole it lol

if u REALLY don't wanna do it and you won't get a bad grade or something, take an empty powerpoint, open it in notepad and delete random lines of text. it'll say that the file is corrupted & trying to restore it won't work (will open an empty presentation). if ur a good actor u can be like noooo.... my powerpoint that i worked sooo hard on ohh nooo.... That trick saved me a couple of times

Thursday Check-In Week 12

I have a few questions about the How to Write Guide. I was wondering if the reflection we're supposed to include that discusses how are tips/tricks are represented in our sample content posts is different from the reflection letter. Additionally, I was looking to incorporate more design elements in my guide since I currently have a PowerPoint with four slides that are full of text. It appears bland and am wondering if it's too much information that could cause a reader to become overwhelmed. @npfannen

Hello! Welcome to the blog. This is an updated intro. I've been here for a minute, just wanted to tidy things up.

I am Wallace, but I also like Wally and Lace just as much (and I generally refer to myself as Lace), so feel free to pick your preference! They/Them or He/Him pronouns, in that order.

This is my writing sideblog. My main blog is over at @lacependragon! I will follow, like, comment on posts, and send asks from there, but I post my writing here and I reblog writing stuff to this blog.

I'm a queer, autistic author with chronic illness/pain and a whole lot of wips. I'm Canadian. I've been writing over half my life (and when you're a couple years shy of 30, that's not bad!) and I was reasonably popular as a fanfic author (RWBY fics mostly), something I've largely stopped doing as of September, 2021.

I'm very passionate. Which is to say I have a Lot(TM) of opinions. And I refuse to take personality tests even if I love them for characters.

Also I really love writing programs. I don't think you need them to be a good author, whatsoever, but god I love them so much.

My Writing

I write basically two things: big ass, character driven, SFF series with tightly woven plots & relationships, plus ridiculous amounts of lore and worldbuilding; and romance novels. That's it. I'm pretty sure I'm better at the latter, which I think is cool.

Also: I have a lots of wips. I cycle between them regularly but I always come back around to the others eventually.

I can sum up my writing as such:

Mostly SFF with a focus on fantasy and scifantasy

Character focused and driven

Often relationship driven - family, friendship, romance, etc.

Almost all of my protagonists are they/them NBs or some other flavour of trans

Mainly queer, disabled, neurodivergent characters

Queer and trans focused romances, also polycules

Found family, slow burn romance, platonic bonds, redemption arcs, overcoming adversity & trauma

Gray morality and tough decisions

Intricate world-building, in-depth magic systems, lots of fantasy creatures, and details on how these things interact with everyday and overarching life

Puns. A lot of puns.

A lot of silly combo words I use as a shortcut to avoid conlanging unnecessarily (though I do LOVE a good conlang)

Listen there's a lot of apocalypses in my WIPs. And overcoming them. It's a theme. It's because of the state of the world. Roll with it.

Ghostpossible | wip post | tag Urban fantasy, new adult. Standalone When Y2K hit, it tore open a portal through the ether, letting ghosts, spooks, and all sorts of monsters through. Sixty years later, the best people to tackle the dead and ghastly are the young, and Kai Yeung, part time college student and full-time big sibling, is trying to make it big in the ghost hunting live streaming business. Money is tight, and this is their best option. Until a guy named Archie shows up and reveals that he’s been possessed by an ancient magical artifact and the very grumpy warrior trapped inside it. If Kai can get the artifact off, they can sell it and provide for their sister for years to come, but that’s only if they can get it off Archie before those chasing him can catch up.

Demon Fuckers Anonymous | wip post | tag Fantasy, dark academia, new adult, erotica. Standalone. Queer Witch Cozies | wip post | tag Urban fantasy, cozy mystery, romance, adult. Series Ciar Gallagher can find things no one else can, that’s their talent as a witch. So when a frantic man comes to the door one night begging for Ciar’s help, they’re pretty sure they can do it. But there’s two problems. One, the man is a regular human, one with no knowledge of magic, and two, he’s asking Ciar to find his kidnapped daughter, and Ciar’s never tracked a person before.

Care Home for Chosen Ones | wip post | tag Urban fantasy, contemporary, adult. Standalone 25-year-old Marlowe takes great pride in their career as a care worker at Sunrise Elder Care, especially in their chats with the remaining chosen ones of a long finished prophecy. But when strange shadows begin to haunt the care home, Marlowe must summon all their knowledge and their most trusty weapon – the push broom – in order to stop the returning Dark One and save the elder chosen ones and their home before it’s too late.

Persephone Project | wip post | tag Science fiction, mystery/thriller, adult. Standalone Five years ago, Axl Thorn was arrested aboard the U.S.S. Faraday for techno-terrorism and multiple counts of first degree murder. Now, the cybernetic attacks have made a resurgence, but this time someone else is behind the keyboard. Pulled out of holding to help, Axl is kept on a short leash by their pissed off personal guard, whose job is both to keep Axl out of trouble – hah! – and to keep others from attacking them. Yet as the attacks grow stronger, the unlikely allies must cast aside their differences if they have any hope of saving the station and all those it connects to.
