Storyline Preview;

Aether and Lumine was always the same. They're twins after all. Ever since they were born, all they do is help people. No matter what. No matter what they feel. No matter how difficult it may be. It's gotten to an extent where they couldn't feel anything anymore. They just feel hollow. As ever blue sky and its beautiful clouds just turned black and white.

Yet, it became colorful once more ever since they encountered their beloved senpai, [L. Name] [Name]. They can't help that they felt butterflies in their stomach and felt as if the world has gained colour once more!

Yet.. Why do they feel uneasy when they saw their beloved senpai talking to another person?

They can't let them go. Not when they make them feel this way. Not when they are the reason their world is colorful. Not when they make them feel as if they have finally gained a reason to live.

They've been helpful for so long. They're allowed to be selfish.. Right?

Storyline Preview;

Zhongli had always been the same. Considering, kind, but calm and content. Yet he couldn't shake off the feeling where he felt empty at the inside ever since his beloved, Guizhong, died due to a terminal sickness. He had long moved on from it. But his heart can't reset back to normal. He doesn't feel anything when people confess their feelings to him. Just hollow. Empty.

He can't help but long for the feeling of being in love again.

Yet, it all changed when he accidentally bumped into his senpai whilst walking around his new high school. Spilling their canned soda on him. It was supposed to be revolting. But he somehow doesn't mind. Not when his attention is fixated on their senpai.

When their hands touched, he felt something. Something growing inside him. Like a beautiful sunflower blooming once the sun rises.

He had forgotten what it feels like to be in love. If he is in love, is this what it feels like? Warm, but lovely? If it is, he'd want to feel like this forever.

Their interaction had already ended, yet his feelings kept growing.

However, a flower has to die in the end.

As he then saw his beloved senpai, talking to another man. So lovingly, so friendly. It couldn't help but make him feel rotten on the inside.

He finally gets his heart re-build once more, he can't have another broken. Not again. He will not let his senpai go. No matter what it takes. He doesn't care if he'll have blood on his hands. It's all for him and his senpai. He doesn't want to feel empty again. He will not let them go.

Storyline Preview;

Kamisato Ayaka has always been known for their family clan and business. Due to her parents no longer here, she and her older brother had to take care of the business at a young age.

She was always known as smart, elegant, and kind. Yet she stayed alone. She wanted to have friends. But God forbid it.

But, that all changed when she entered High School. The one her older brother designed, to be perfect for her and himself.

She was just relaxing at the rooftop. Enjoying the breeze. Until she decided to practice her dance. After all, no one is there to watch, right?

That is where she was wrong.

Her body swayed along with the wind. Granting her body free moves as she continued to dance with the wind. As she finally finished, she heard clapping.

Turning to where the noise came from.. It was from.. You. Her senpai.

“ That was beautiful..! ”

It was such a simple compliment. So why did her heart start beating fast?

That interaction had ended. It was supposed to be a small one, anyways. As you were busy with other things.

But she couldn't help but think about you. Her senpai. Her mind is basically infested with it. What could she do to impress you once again? What could she do to meet you again? What could she do to finally be of someone's main attention?

She needs you. She has to have you. You were the only one who could understand her. Who could accompany her. Who could finally set your attention to her. Just her.

So just look at her again, won't you? Just her. Don't look at anyone else. You won't need anyone else with her around.

Storyline Preview;

Al-Haitham had always been.. Pretentious.

He was smart, he was attractive, he was looked up on to, he was anything you can ask for in a man.

So why does he feel empty?

It felt as if something is missing. It always feels like something is missing inside him.

He had spent all his time on books, knowledge, education. And nothing else. Was it company he craved? No, he isn't.

Right?

His interaction with you was simple. Yet cliche.

You were just going to grab a book in the library, that was obviously too tall for you to take. Getting onto your toes, you tried again. Only for another hand to reach for the book, touching yours.

As soon as the two of you made contact, he can't help but feel.. full.

He felt as if his stomach was filled with sweets, love and butterflies. But it was illogical! There was no way he feels this way just by touching your hand.

You let him take the book as it isn't that important to you anyways. Leaving him alone with his thoughts.

It was a nice gesture of you for him. Do you really prioritize others than yourself?

He decided to brush those feelings off, calling them annoying. But his heart kept beating fast. Ignoring what his mind said.

His vision was fixated on you as you left the library, yet through the windows.. He saw you and another.. boy.

Why is he so rude to you? Why is he so mean to you? Why is he so cruel to you? And why are you just laughing it off? Why are you smiling at him so lovingly? Why are you even hanging out with him? Why? Why? Why?!

He doesn't understand. He hates feeling like this, but he can't help but want more. He's never felt anything like it. Why does he want you so bad? Why does he want to get rid of anyone that dares to stand next to you? He doesn't understand.

Yet he knows one thing. He need to get rid of those who dare to stand next to you, let alone talk to you!? He has to. He has to. Only HE is allowed to stand next to you! Only HE is allowed to talk to you! Only HE is allowed to see that beautiful smile of yours. Only HE is allowed to hear your laughs. Him, him, him! Not anyone else! He won't allow it.

Please remember that each edition has different storylines. But same ending. So I hope you all are anticipated for chapter one!

They’re kicked back in Adirondacks by the fire circle, the logs popping and sparking when the flames lick dried sap. The air is just crisp enough to make the heat cozy. Scully brought home cider donuts from the farm stand along her commute, which they wash down with a pitcher of sangria. A cinnamon-sugar crust coats her lips.

It’s been two minutes since he asked her and she hasn’t answered.

“So?” he prods, nudging her foot with his. “It’s been long enough all the sin’s gone out of it, Dana Katherine. Fess up, did you experiment some in college? I’ll absolve you if you did.”

He puts the lewdest possible edge on “experiment” so that she can’t in good faith make a quip about organic chemistry or the effects of acetylcholine on Rana pipiens.

Scully flops her head back against the heavy wooden chair; who cares at this point? The meanest nuns are dead. “Yeah,” she says. “I did.”

She turns to him for a reaction

His eyebrows are up, but he looks genuinely interested rather than smirking. “Oh? Do tell.”

She stares up at the rising column of smoke, tracks it to Polaris. Tracks it decades back. “This girl, Elizabeth. Roommate’s boyfriend’s sister. We…um. We all went out to a bar one night while she was visiting.”

Scully leans into the memory. Calgon and ski sweaters and Aqua Net. Layered bangs, Jordache jeans. Liz’s rum and Coke.

Liz’s hazel eyes, Liz’s blue mascara.

“Anyway. We all had a lot to drink and Claire - that was my roommate - Claire and Elizabeth’s brother were making out in his Cutlass Ciera.”

Liz’s mouth like a taut August plum, the taste of her frosted Revlon lips…

“There was this couch in the back of the bar, some coffee tables, you know the feeling. Anyway, Liz pulled me over. We’d been dancing some, Fleetwood Mac I think, and she kissed me. I was shocked, good Catholic girl that I was. But I was three shots in, and it was college, you know? We settled on the couch, kind of drunk I guess….”

She swallows hard, looks at Mulder. “Is this weird? It seems kind of weird.”

He shakes his head, eyes bright in the flames. “Go on.”

“We were kissing, mostly. She touched my breasts through my shirt, slipped her hands down my jeans but not my underwear. It was pretty innocent, I don’t know. I didn’t see her again after that but it definitely changed my perspective some. I began noticing if I found a woman attractive. Got at least a bit more comfortable with the idea, anyway. Stopped telling myself I just liked her hair or her outfit.”

She hears his breathing thicken. Just a little, but it’s there.

“And never after?” he asks.

Scully wonders what else he isn’t asking her. Wonders what it must be like to be young now. She shakes her head, takes a pull of sangria. Chews a chunk of macerated pineapple.

“No,” she says. “I came close a couple of times, but no.”

She wishes she had a cigarette or a joint. Something to do with her hands and her mouth even after so many years. And even after so many years she doesn’t tell him about what she thought of Esther Nairn, about whether she wanted to kill Diana or be Diana or fuck Diana.

They watch the fire for a time. Hear it crackle, gaze into a vast and endless sky. There are old gods there, older than hers. She knows that now. She embraces it.

“What about you?” Scully asks. “All those posh Eton boys at Oxford, surely one struck your fancy.”

She doesn’t really expect anything of it, but she asks to make him confirm or deny. To deflect. It’s how she’s been trained. And she’s endlessly intrigued by his formative years, her well-bred, prep-school lover. They’d practically invented sodomy, hadn’t they?

Mulder makes a soft, throaty noise. Grabs a donut and takes a huge bite.

She turns to him. “Oh my god,” she says. “Did you sleep with Alex Krycek?” Where had THAT come from?

He coughs donut crumbs everywhere. “Scully!”

She clamps on to it. “Did you?”

His turn for the sangria now, blushing. Blushing! Fox Mulder, did you really? she thinks, oddly turned on.

Mulder clears his throat. “He kissed me, but no. He kissed me twice, actually. But no, I didn’t…” he trails off, shaking his head.

“Did you like it?” she asks, her voice sex and sandpaper. Arousing herself further, Jesus.

“Yes,” he says. Holds her stare. Runs his tongue over the lips she’s kissed so many times. That Alex Krycek and Diana Fowley had kissed. The sting is gone, only the fascination left.

All the sin’s gone out of it, he’d said. Yes, it had. Over fifty, of course it had.

“But it wasn’t your first time.” A little breathless, that.

“No.” Licks his lips again. “You guessed right, Agent Scullly, brava. This guy, at uni…we. We didn’t sleep together, but we’d. You know. Touch.”

Agent Scully.

The father of her child looks unimaginably shy. “Ourselves. Each other.”

She knows about Phoebe, all the details. She knows about the cemetery and the gothic drama and the kind of sex that feels like a revelation instead of a mind game.

He knows about Daniel. She sees the child she was then, has long since forgiven the silly girl.

But this is different and, in her mind, sweet. Two boys, lonely, away from home. She hopes they were comforted. Happy.

“Did you…keep up with him?”

Mulder shakes his head, mouth a little swollen in the primal orange glow. “It only lasted a term before he graduated. Never spoke after that. Phoebe, you know. Other women.”

“Alex.”

He grins at her. “You have to admit he was awfully pretty, especially for a complete piece of shit.”

Scully laughs. “That he was.”

She reaches for his fingers in the dark.

I think one of the big reasons Genshin NPCs are perceived as so much more interesting than Genshin playable characters is... they’re ALLOWED to grow and change in radical ways.

Ruu has an arc about realizing he’s dead, about finding peace and bringing it to Kapatcir, and then finally moving on. Zhiqiong struggles with her mundanity, her mortality, recklessly pushing its body far beyond its limits in a bid to be remembered. Jeht is lively and curious and friendly and gets quickly attached to Benben, but also struggles with her father’s past and the place she belongs. Neko sits idylly on her island, waiting for the day Hibiki, who died hundreds of years ago, will return to her. Gendou Ringo has a great hidden quest about being a Fatui Spy but wanting to live a normal life as a shrine maiden, being helped by a begrudging Momoyo, and there’s also Katarina and the Company of Fatui, hell, Enjou.

They’re allowed to have full, lengthy arcs and to radically change their life situations. Gendou Ringo defects from the Fatui and becomes a Shrine Maiden. Katarina and Zhiqiong vanish and may be dead. The Company’s fate is uncertain, but not optimistic. Rana goes off adventuring with a Vision and Arana. Enjou reveals himself as part of the Abyss Order, Ruu leaves the world...

I think the reason why the NPCs tend to be more interesting is because they’re allowed to have complete arcs. They’re allowed to be ‘retired’, to go off somewhere where the Traveller cannot follow. While the playables are all stuck in just... a limbo. Sometimes their development is tied to Archon Quests or Character quests, but only two out of the 64 playable characters (not counting the Traveller) get sequels to their character quests. And of those two, only Ei gets to make significant character development in her sequel.

Amber, Kaeya, Diluc, Razor, Xinqiu, Lisa, Mona, Jean. They were some of the first characters to get Character Quests. Do they get sequels? Do they change radically and make life-altering decisions? No. Have we learned what Childe is doing, if he no longer remembers Scara to track him down? No. They’re all generally in the same places we left them. With the same significant relationships. They appear in Events, and those Events can pair them up with characters we don’t usually meet for fun dynamics, or reveal previously unknown past info like Razor’s parents or Kaeya and Diluc’s letters. But the Rifthounds in Wolvendom don’t get followed up on, Kaeya and Diluc retain generally the same relationship. These things are interesting, but ultimately treated as skippable and will be summarized in the main quests.

It’s not just that all the playable characters have to be considered ‘marketable’. They have to believably be in a place where the Traveller can ‘reach’ them, so they can still be rolled or show up in events.

Take Dain and Scara, for example. Scara spent a long stint as an unplayable character. Dain still isn’t playable. Scara quickly won a lot of fans’ hearts, not just because he was allowed to act like something of a bastard, but before he became playable he showed up in four different regions for varying reasons. Then what’s the final thing Scara does before he officially becomes ‘playable’? Establish that he’s staying with Nahida now, allowing the Traveller a place to conveniently find him in future Archon Quests, and possibly a reason to show up in Sumeru-based temporary events. Likewise, Dain exclusively shows up for Archon Interludes, appearing and disappearing across the continent, being the one to seek out the Traveller, rather than allowing us to find him. Before becoming playable, both Scara and Dain are allowed to have their own quests, goals, and adventures separate from the Traveller, but upon being made playable Scara’s development is made to scale with the Traveller’s journey and progress.

This is a little rambly and disorganized I expect, and I’m sure it’s not the only reason, but I think it’s a possible theory about why it’s like that. If the writers felt they were allowed to, say, have Thoma pack up and return to Mondstadt, that would be breaking the status quo, because he may not make it back for the next Irodori festival. If Razor decides it’s time to leave his Lupical and journey to track down the Abyss Order, that would be breaking the status quo, because now he can’t be there for Windblume.

And boy do gacha games struggle with character development and the status quo.

what a gentleman. tall, blonde (well..), dark, lean, rough and tough and strong and mean (well.)

warnings: just fluff and sweet chivalrous jean (stopped writing when my mood got worse i'm learning)

word count: 537

jean had been a calm and handsome man ever since you’d known him. the other townsfolk would agree with you, he had only ever been known as a gentleman ever since his “tall, dark, mysterious stranger” facade faded. jean wouldn’t agree, a self proclaimed rascal in his youth, he’d tell tales of his rowdy days. hard to imagine the man who stood before you had ever been an irresponsible little boy, but even you had been wild before you started a life on the frontier.

it started with innocent admiration for the cowboy. the way he’d sit silently in the rowdy tavern, wide-brimmed hat tilted down as he sipped on his drink. at first you could hardly pick up on the sweet, soft tone of his words under the deep, gruff baritone of his voice. it was there, of course, and after you’d noticed he unknowingly drew a deep blush from your cheeks anytime his lips parted.

you wouldn’t see him often, since you’d rarely travel to the ranch– besides to not-so-subtly visit jean. you were alright with it, absence just made your heart grow fonder. whenever he saw you, he almost coddled you. jean never let you walk behind him, nor near the side of the road where the horses and carriages rana through. he’d carry you over the smallest puddles, cover your head from the sun’s glare with his hat, he knew you loved his hat.

still, you never thought too much of it, never let your hopes get too high. jean was a charmer, that much was certain. he was sweet to everyone, at least all of the townsfolk. you must’ve been overthinking it, no matter how determined you had been to keep his kindness from fogging your mind. in truth, although you haven't realized it, jean had noticed you from the beginning. it was unavoidable, really, all he had done since he had laid eyes on you was vie for your attention.

once, when he had walked you back to town from the ranch– taking the long way, on foot– he stopped behind you. when you realized he wasn’t behind you, you stopped, looking towards him quizzically. he was kneeling, plucking a wildflower from the ground. your face softened, chuckling as your boots dug into the dirt road. when he slant his head towards you, your smile only grew. there was something about the light reflecting off his tanned skin, the fabric on his back stretching to match his tilted figure. you couldn’t imagine a more beautiful sight, but jean could. it was the gleam in your eye, the way you nearly skipped toward him, leaning down to ask if he knew what kind of flowers they were. when he looked at the shy smile on your face, he couldn’t help the heart rushing to his face.

you always knew jean wasn’t the sort of man you could simply let go of. even if he didn’t return your affections, you swore you’d stay close to him as long as you could. until he got sick of you, you suckle onto him like a parasite– or more sweetly, like a bee to a flower. after all, it’s hard to see the truth in the daylight.
