i think that people should start using “in poor taste” as a descriptor again given it is often the most applicable and clearest phrase when discoursing about media and analysis; sometimes a piece of art isn’t actually THE most problematic thing of all time is is. just in poor taste (not JUST in poor taste as a reductive take on potential harm but/and as in regardless of intent the impact is this was an offensive or stupid take/choice)

Usually if an account reaches out to you and their tumblr page is a shit ton of popular posts all reblogged within minutes of each other, with a fundraising post pinned that was made maybe 45 minutes ago, it's a sign they're a scam (and are spamming reblogs to make themselves look more legit). Go to Operation Olive Branch for funds to donate to - their team is thorough when vetting funds and they have hundreds still waiting to reach their goal.

i see a lot of people who don't know what to do when they get anon hate, and my number one reminder is that YOU DO NOT NEED TO REPLY. DON'T ANSWER IT.
Leave them without an answer; if an ask is in bad faith, then don't reply. If you don't want to answer, then you don't need to. Block them if you want to. If you don't want to block, then don't give them the attention that they want. They'll get bored and frustrated when you don't react, and move on.
Engaging with them does nothing but upset you and tell them that they got to you. They WANT you to reply and get upset. Cut them off early. Block the anon if possible. Report them. Turn off anonymous asks if you start getting harassed (they're usually unwilling to link their actual accounts to whatever they're sending).
#they're seeking entertainment. responding lets them know that they're able to get to you and encourages them to continue engaging#it may not be as immediately satsifying as a cool clapback#but if you just delete their ask without engaging then you leave them bored or fuming wondering where their reply went

In swing states you're an undecided voter who's gonna go blue if they don't vote how you like
remember to call because that way their phone is going off and their peers can hear it because their offices are close together (emails and letters don't work like that), so it can rattle them if they get high volumes. remember that you gotta make them feel like they're losing something.

Doyle very sincerely believes that the house is haunted, and Holmes thinks that Doyle is a moron
I was too young to appreciate this concept when I was a child, now that I’m older it’s the best concept for a play I’ve ever heard in my life.

hot take incoming: revolt and revolution doesn't create a fair and equitable society. it creates a power vaccum, which is terrifying because it is incredibly fertile ground for all sorts of warlords, aspiring tyrants, paramilitary extremists, and imperial powers to swoop in and start doing atrocities over it. You can put a new society in a power vaccum, but so can anyone else, and most of those potential outcomes are going to be horrifying, not to mention to the hellscape interim period.
To create a fair and equitable society you need to know civics, administration, diplomacy, and yes, statecraft. Yes they're boring and unglamorous and icky and gross. But i promise that you need them. They are mandatory. Not optional.
