Master List
Tumblr media
So, there you were, on your 10th date with Daichi, arriving fashionably late by 11 minutes (who's keeping tabs, right?). Well, apparently you are, marking each date on your secret calendar with red hearts and circles. It's like your own undercover mission!
You dressed up in that cute floral chiffon sundress, paired with your favorite handbag, feeling like a vision of elegance and grace. You were secretly hoping that this time Daichi would beat you to it. But, as luck would have it, he was the early bird of this romantic duo.
Then, the moment of intrigue arrived - you found Daichi, scrolling through Instagram, a habit he swore off. "Aha, someone's smitten," you teased him, watching him swoon over the photos from your past dates. Daichi, caught in the act, blushed like a ripe tomato.
In a sweet and almost cinematic move, he stood up and pulled your chair out, proving that chivalry was not yet extinct. You couldn't help but give him a little theatrical swoon and quip, "Thanks, Ichi, and they say chivalry is dead." You added a sly grin for that extra touch of charm.
The scene was set at a cozy, candlelit Italian restaurant, the kind of place where romance and dreams intertwine. The mood was perfect, and the world seemed to slow down, allowing you to savor each moment with Daichi.
The date was a feast for the senses. The garlic bread was like a fragrant invitation, the pasta dish a creamy delight, and the chocolate lava cake was, well, pure dessert heaven.
However, Daichi's behavior was intriguing and mysterious. He appeared a tad jittery, like he was drifting into a world of his own, and it left you puzzled. Was this the moment when he'd break the news? Your heart raced with curiosity.
Unable to hold back your inquisitive spirit any longer, you took a deep breath and decided to broach the subject. "Daichi," you began, "I've noticed something different in our recent dates. Is there something on your mind?"
Daichi snapped out of his daze, looking genuinely surprised. He cleared his throat, his eyes locking onto yours, and your heart felt like it skipped a beat. This had to be the moment of truth, right?
But Daichi had other plans. "I'm sorry, (Y/N)," he confessed, "I've been lost in thought, trying to find the right words."
Your heart sank - you were convinced this was the preamble to a heartbreaking revelation.
But then, Daichi took a deep breath and, with newfound determination, said, "I've been reflecting on our time together, and it's been nothing short of magical. You mean the world to me, and every second with you is a treasure."
There was tension in the air, but with another deep breath, Daichi mustered the courage to declare, "I want more than these wonderful dates, (Y/N). I want to make this official. Will you be my girlfriend?"
Your eyes widened, and your heart soared. It wasn't a breakup; it was a love declaration! Relief and euphoria washed over you like a dreamy, sun-kissed ocean.
Without a moment's hesitation, you beamed at Daichi and replied, "Yes, Daichi, I'd love to be your girlfriend."
Daichi's face lit up like a constellation of stars, and he reached across the table to take your hand. The confusion of the day seemed to evaporate as you shared a dreamy, heartfelt moment, relieved and ecstatic about your newfound commitment.
The night continued with laughter, warmth, and the shared dreams of your future. It was undeniable that you were stepping into a thrilling new chapter of your relationship, where dreams and reality merged into a beautiful love story yet to be written.
With every passing moment, you realized that this could be the prelude to something magnificent, and that perhaps, the best feeling was yet to come.

✻ Ichi-go, Ichi-e (Daichi Sawamura) Together
Tumblr media
📑 Table of Contents
Genre: Slice of Life, Soulmate AU, School, Student x Teacher ☁
Word Count: 967 ☁
Pairing: Teacher Reader, Daichi ☁
World: Haikyuu!! ☁
Prompt: #21, “You and I, we shouldn’t belong together.” ☁
This was written for @challengingwords writing challenge.
━━━━━━༻ ✻ ༺━━━━━━
In this world, soulmates are quite commonplace and accepted by most of the population. It made life easier, for the most part, because everyone knew that there truly was this one singular person out there just waiting for them. Others stressed over finding their other half, driving themselves crazy in the process. It didn’t really bother you because you weren’t looking for a relationship at this point in your life. If you found them, cool, but you weren’t going to stress over it.
“Are you ready, Y/N-sensei?” The principal questioned kindly.
“Yes, sir.” You held your head up high as he slid the classroom door open, stepping inside with you close behind. A whisper swept across the room.
The principal cleared his throat, hands clasped behind him. “As you know, Sawako-sensei had to take maternity leave, so Y/N-sensei is going to be replacing her until she’s ready to return. I expect you to treat them well.”
“Yes, sir!”
The principal patted your shoulder, wishing you good luck. You turned to face the students with a smile. “Hello, it’s nice to meet all of you.”
Hands shot into the air and you spent the next ten minutes answering a wide variety of questions before the room finally settled. Since this was your first day and you were going to be with them for a while, you decided to hand out short about me slips so you could learn more about your students. While they focused on this task, you quietly made rounds around the room, quietly laughing at some of the answers.
As your hands swept over the page of a brown-haired boy, you came to a dead stop, eyes widening as they landed on the boy’s wrist. Black numbers were inked into his creamy skin. They were familiar and you had memorized that same sequence of six because you had been staring at them for twenty-two years now.
Daichi paused his writing when he realized you weren’t moving. His eyes followed yours to his wrist and his brow furrowed. Why were you staring so intently at his soulnumbers? His eyes moved to your wrist, but the skin was covered by a thick watch.
“Sensei?” he questioned softly, brown eyes meeting yours.
“Huh?” You snapped out of your daze, rubbing the back of your neck with a sheepish smile. “Oh, sorry. Guess I zoned out!”
A couple students giggled at you and you quickly turned, making a beeline for your desk, trying to convince yourself that this was all just some bad dream induced by eating just before bed. How could your soulmate be a high school student? Granted, he wasn’t that much younger than you, but he was your student and it was wrong.
When class finally came to an end, you waited for the students to start filing out of the room before walking around to collect their bio sheets. Their next period was a free period, giving you time to collect your thoughts.
“Sensei?”
“Yes?” You turned around with a smile, which faltered when your eyes landed on the brown-haired boy that was causing you so much distress. You cleared your throat. “What can I do for you?”
Daichi shifted, rethinking his decision to confront you, but he just had to know if he was right. This was important to him. “Can I see your wrist?”
Your body tensed up. “Excuse me?”
His cheeks darkened, but he resolved to learn the answer. “You were staring at my soulnumbers… you have the same one, don’t you? You’re my soulmate.”
You chuckled nervously, waving him off. “That’s ridiculous -”
“Then prove it.” He demanded, his dark eyes shining with determination. “Show me your wrist… Y/N-sensei.”
Goosebumps rose across your skin when he spoke your name and you sighed in frustration, falling into the closest chair, taking your head between your hands. “This can not be happening…”
Daichi sat across from you, hesitantly reaching for your right arm. You didn’t pull away, allowing him to remove the thick band from your wrist, revealing the same six-digit sequence that was printed across his own skin. “My soulmate…” he breathed in disbelief, sliding his hand into your own.
You quickly jerked away, jumping up and approaching your desk as you declared, “This changes nothing.”
“But -”
“No,” you shook your head, meeting his eye with a hard stare. “You and I, we shouldn’t belong together. You’re my student, for christ’s sake.”
“Only temporarily.” He commented with a shrug. “But I understand.”
You released a breath you hadn’t realized you were holding. Well, that was easier than you had been expecting. “Good. Now, you should -”
“That doesn’t mean I’m giving up on you, Y/N.” A sly smile came to his lips, eyes shimmering. “The second I graduate, I’ll be coming to take you out on a date, so make sure you don’t start seeing anyone, okay?”
Your heart fluttered at the declaration, mouth opening and closing as you tried to form a response. All you could do was watch the male leave the room. Something told you that your life was about to get a lot more complicated.
A groaned passed your lips as you fell into your chair, muttering under your breath. “Become a teacher, they said. It’ll be fun, they said. High schoolers are easy to deal with, they said. What a joke.”
Daichi stood outside the room with a smile, chewing on the corner of his lip as his hand rested over his racing heart. He had known you for less than a few hours and yet, he felt as if he had known you his entire life. He felt completely at ease in your presence, he craved being close to you, talking to you.
He brought his finger to rub across the numbers on his skin. “My beautiful soulmate…”

The term “Ichi-go, Ichi-e” literally means “one time, one moment”. As explained in [this] article, it is meant to act as a reminder that we should treasure every moment because it will never recur again. I thought that was beautiful, so I decided to use that as the title for this set.

It’s interesting how even before Inajitsu vs Teito match started, Miyuki was already looking for Sawamura in the bleachers at the corner of his eye.
We have got to understand that this was unusual behavior coming from Sawamura. I looked back at the previous episodes and noticed that Sawamura was always in the center of the main roster flock, and usually on Miyuki’s side.
example1, when the first years were introduced
Tumblr media
example2, in the canteen (he’s sitting directly across Miyuki here)
Tumblr media
example3, in the bleachers after Seido vs Kasuga-ichi match, while they were watching Ichidai vs Niogakusha
Tumblr media
Therefore Sawamura sitting far from the core of the team after Seido vs Ichidai was downright WEIRD by Sawamura and Seido standards.
Tumblr media
I know that Kuramochi kept implying that Sawamura was angry at the team for not being able to back him up with more runs.
However I think Sawamura wasn’t really angry at the team but he just wanted time for himself to reflect on what he learned about the Seido vs. Sankou match. Maybe he wanted to reflect on his frustration about the difference of the team and Kataoka’s treatment of him and Furuya as reliever and ace respectively.
This is why he let Haruichi and the rest of the main team go on ahead without him. It wouldn’t be too far off to say he wanted to avoid them for a bit.
I think though one of Sawamura’s  reasons for sitting far away was to be able to watch the match without Miyuki’s input.
If you recall, Miyuki had started explaining in-game strategy to Sawamura and Furuya while watching Ichidai vs Niogakusha match.
Tumblr media
Sawamura was impressed by how Miyuki could predict gameplay by watching a game. He wanted to try doing it on his own like how he got sanada’s cutter & shuuto, shunshin’s precision and narumiya’s changeup for himself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Because this is what Sawamura is really about. He never wallows in defeat for too long but he looks for concrete and practical ways to improve himself. While the rest of the team were still regretful, Sawamura was already one, two, ten steps ahead.
Tumblr media
He’s an inspiration to them all.

Meet the family.

This piece is for the Home Sweet Home collab that HQC server hosted! You can check the masterlist here! Go and check the other writers pieces! They’re amazing and they all do an awesome job everytime!
All the HQ siblings info made my head imagine a thousand scenarios but big brother Daichi took 90% of my mind.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Baby? I have to cancel our study date tonight, I'm sorry," Daichi said on the other end of the phone.
"Did something happen?" you tried to keep ordering stuff for work as he talked.
"My parents have to drop my siblings here for a day or two. Apparently they have an urgent work meeting in another city."
"You sound upset, hun," you said as you stared at the numbers in your screen. You couldn't spot the mistake yet but you would.
"I'm good! Just sad I have to cancel. I really wanted to see you," he explained.
"I can go anyways," you offered.
"You won't be able to get anything done with the kids around…"
"Oh, I'm amazing with kids!" you chirped. "I want to meet them too. Pretty please? I don't mind not studying."
"But your exams, babe. You have to-"
"I'll be there at the time we agreed! I have to go back to work, I love you!"
Daichi heard the call ending and he had to answer his father's message yet.
I'll be at home in 30 minutes, you can bring them then, dad.
Oh, he had to go to the grocery store. How could he go to the store alone with four kids? He sighed. Maybe he should've called someone for help. Suga was good with kids, he's a teacher and also has siblings, so maybe he- He should also buy some toys? Or would they be entertained enough with movies and a console? Since he moved to another city for study he wasn’t able to see his siblings often enough.
And when his parents finally dropped them he was surprised to see how much they had grown in just a few months. Two pairs of twins wasn’t a common thing, not in Miyagi at least, and somehow he ended up with four little siblings. As the four little persons walked around his apartment his parents walked with him to the kitchen.
“Thanks for taking care of them in such a short notice, Daichi,” his mom said.
“It’s not a problem, I missed them,” he smiled to his mother.
"Will you be okay alone with them?" his father asked.
"They're already here so… I can always ask for help," he smiled again.
After a little mom’s speech about being nice and listening to his brother his parents finally left. And he was in charge of four little lives. This wasn't the first time but he was nervous.
"Ichi, your house is biiiiig," Haori said. Haori and Kaori were the first pair of twins, two girls with their father's eyes (like him) and long caramel hair like their mother.
The second pair of twins took the couch as their place.
“Can we watch tv, Ichi, please?” the boys said, almost at unison.
“Yes, boys,” Daichi turned on the tv and looked for a kids channel. Disney seemed to be good as the kids didn’t complain so he left it there. “I’m gonna prepare something for us to eat so call me if you need me, ok?”
The girls were laying on the floor with notebooks and markers. The boys were too focused on the puppies cartoon to even listen to him, so he turned around and walked to the kitchen.
Not even ten minutes after, the five siblings were startled by the door opening.
“Babe, I’m here! Will you help me with-” you walked inside and were welcomed by two pair of brown eyes, just as your boyfriend’s ones. “Oh, hi there, girls,” you smiled.
“I thought you weren’t coming,” Daichi said and took the grocery bags from your hands.
“I told you I was coming,” you laughed. “And I knew you had company so I bought a lot of funny stuff to eat and drink!”
Kaori and Haori followed you a few steps behind, paying attention to everything you and their brother did.
“Y/n, these are Haori and Kaori, my sisters. Girls, she’s y/n, my girlfriend,” Daichi introduced you to the young girls, who looked at you almost squinting.
“Nice to meet you! You’re both more beautiful than your brother said to me!”
“Come on, I’ll introduce you to the boys,” Daichi took your hand and his sisters squinted even more at you. “Y/n, they’re Taichi and Takeru. Boys, this is y/n! She’ll be staying with us tonight,” Daichi crouched in front of the couch and pointed at you. Both of them looked almost the same as your boyfriend but they had deep green eyes.
“Nice to meet you, boys,” you smiled again and they smiled back. “What are you looking at here?”
“Puppy patrol,” Takeru said.
The girls went back to their drawings but they were still reluctant of you.
“Can you help me with dinner?” Daichi said. You nodded and ruffled Takeru’s hair before walking behind the big brother. “I have no idea what to do, I was staring at the vegetables before you arrived. You saved me from going to the store.”
“I can cook then,” you pushed him aside and took the apron from its usual place. “I think the girls are not excited with me being here,” you giggled. “And I didn’t even kiss you when I arrived!”
Daichi was standing at the kitchen entrance, where he had a view of his siblings, and blew up a kiss for you.
“I’ve never been with someone before so…”
“Oh? Am I your first couple?” you teased.
“That’s not what I meant,” he tried to sound angry but he giggled in the end.
“You didn’t deny it either, baby,” you smiled as you chopped vegetables. You received blank eyes in return. “How wild must it be to have twins not one but two times! I really admire your mother and I don’t even know her.”
"I admire her too," he commented.
"Ichi-nii! Kao won't let me draw with her and Haori," Taichi ran to his brother with little tears in his eyes.
"Oh, buddy, I'll give you something to draw for yourself, how that sounds?" Daichi took the little guy in his arms and walked away.
You kept chopping vegetables to cook wok. You were sure the kids would eat it if it was full of colors. When you turned around from the kitchen island to face the counter and wash your hands, there was a little body standing behind you.
"Oh, Takeru! Sorry, I didn't see you there! Is everything ok?" you cleaned your hands and bent down to take his hand.
"Ca-can I stay here and help you?" he whispered.
"Of course! Come here," you helped him climb the counter and sit there. "I need to put six cups of water here, can you do that?" you said as you placed a pot by his side. "I'm working back there now but if you want to go down tell me, ok? Don't jump for yourself."
The boy smiled and nodded. You finished cutting everything and started cooking. The water for the rice was heating up and you heard Daichi put on music.
"We're done here, do you want to see what your brother is doing?" you asked and he nodded again.
You took him in your arms and walked to the living room to find three out of four Sawamura siblings dancing. Daichi turned around when he heard Takeru’s laugh. His heart stopped for a second when he saw you standing there with the little boy on your arms, smiling and whispering to him in complicity.
“The girls wanted to play Just Dance,” your boyfriend explained as he walked to you. “Do you wanna dance, buddy?”
“Go and dance until dinner is ready,” you smiled as you put the boy down. He walked away and Daichi took the opportunity to steal a quick kiss from you. “What’s with that smile of yours?”
“You looked good with a boy in your arms,” he confessed. “The girls are a little jealous of you.”
“Yeah, I’d be jealous too if I see a random girl with my brother,” you laughed. “Do you want a baby, Daichi? I don’t mind trying a few times.”
He blushed when he felt your lips on his cheek after your suggestive talk.
“Don’t do this to me right now, please.”
“Sorry, sorry, “ you put your hands up in defeat. “Dinner will be ready in 15 minutes.”
You walked back to the kitchen to control the food and after two more songs, Daichi and the twins got the table ready. You served food to everyone and the ex captain went to the fridge for the drinks.
“Why did you buy so much juice?”
“I didn’t know what your siblings liked so I got one of each and they can choose,” you explained.
The dinner was peaceful. The girls told Daichi stories about school and the boys talked about getting ready for leaving kindergarten.
“So, the boys are 5-ish? And you girls?” you asked.
“We’re ten,” they said in a perfect synchrony. “Is Suga-san coming?” Haori continued.
You choked on your rice and Daichi laughed.
“He had to do something tonight but if you stay another day I’ll make sure he comes,” he answered. “Are you ok, honey?”
You didn’t miss the giggles from the boys and smugs from the girls.
“I’m good, I’m good! Does anyone want dessert? We have ice cream,” you smiled.
After some ice cream and a movie, the boys fell asleep. And the girls were sleepy.
“Ichi, can we go to bed?” Haori asked.
“Of course, let’s take the boys too.”
You took Takeru in your arms and walked first to the room.
“You have to share the bed but I have a biiiiiiig bed,” Daichi explained to his sisters. “Let’s put the boys in the end so the girls can watch tv,” he told you.
You left Takeru under the covers and walked out so your boyfriend could have a private moment with his siblings. You turned on the living room tv and found a movie to kill the time. Daichi was back ten minutes later and layed down on the couch with his head on your thighs.
“My old rival Suga is back on game,” you giggled and he looked at you with a question on his eyes. “Did I ever tell you that I thought you liked him? That time I asked you out after your practice I really thought you were gonna say you were dating him. And now your sisters like him more than me.”
“They just met him before, they need some time. And everyone likes Suga,” he said.
“Did something happen with your parents? I mean, they had to leave his childs here on short notice… I’m sorry, that sounded rude. You don’t have to tell me.”
“It’s fine, babe. Ever since my dad's company started to grow, they have to travel more and more. His company was always fine but now it’s huge. That’s how he was able to buy this giant apartment for me. They usually hire a nanny but this time they couldn’t get one.”
“That sounds hard,” you ran your hand through his short hair. “I could help you to take care of them anytime.”
He took your hand and kissed it multiple times before getting up.
“We should sleep so we can be up before the twins. Can you get us a cover from my room?”
You walked to the room and smiled at the girls who were still awake.
“If you need anything your brother and I will be on the couch,” you said before walking out. “Goodnight!”
When you were back, Daichi had already sprawled on the sofa bed. You turned off the lights and laid by his side. The dishes could wait till the morning. The movie was still running on the tv but both of you were tired and not even 10 minutes later you fell asleep.
The next morning an insistent knock on the door woke you up. Daichi was asleep and there was no sign of the twins, so you got up and checked yourself before opening the door. Daichi’s shirt and pants were decent enough to show to whoever was out.
“Good morning! How can I help you?” you said to the lovely couple at the door. You smiled, waiting for them to answer.
“I think we knocked on the wrong door?” the lady said. “Dear, are you sure this was Daichi’s apartment?”
“Mom?” Daichi walked to your and his mom’s voice.
“Oh my god, I’m sorry! Please, come in,” you stepped away from the door. “I’ll prepare coffee!”
“Come in, we just woke up so the couch is a mess, sorry,” Daichi explained. “The kids are in my room if you want to wake them up. I’ll help y/n with breakfast.”
“That’s definitely not how I wanted to meet your parents,” you whispered when he walked in the kitchen.
“Oh, babe, you’re fine. Let me finish this and go get changed if you want.”
“Do you need help?” Daichi’s mom was standing behind his son. “I’m glad to see you have a beautiful girl by your side.”
You blushed at her comment and she smiled.
“I’m so sorry for what happened earlier. It’s really nice to meet you and your husband,” you smiled at her.
“Don’t worry about it! It’s Daichi’s fault for not introducing us before. Thanks for helping him take care of the twins.”
“It was a pleasure.”
“How is this my fault?” he laughed. “I think the twins take milk and corn flakes.”
“Okay, I’ll take everything to the table,” you said.
You and your mother-in-law prepared the twins breakfast and took it to the table along with coffee for you and Daichi.
“Are you sure you’re not drinking anything?” you asked again.
“We had breakfast at the hotel, thanks,” your father-in-law said.
You had your coffee in silence, listening to how the twins told their parents how much fun they had with their brother and his girlfriend and the boys said the dinner was like a rainbow.
After taking the empty cups to the kitchen and doing the dishes while Daichi talked with his parents, you walked to the living room to say goodbye to the kids.
“Thanks again for taking care of them,” Daichi’s mom said.
“It really was a pleasure and I’m happy I could meet you all! Please bring them again whenever you like,” you smiled.
“Maybe you can come over next time, and you can know Miyagi,” she said.
“I’d really like that,” you said.
“I’m walking with them to their car, I’ll be right back,” Daichi said and kissed your cheek before leaving.
You laid down on the couch again and turned on the tv. Your heart was still racing for meeting your boyfriend’s parents and you needed to calm down.
When Daichi was back he found you asleep on the couch. He covered your body with his jacket and let you sleep. He could wake you up with lunch and you would smile that sweet and excited smile he liked so much.

“You know, speaking of helping out around the house… actually it’s not that related.” Sugawara changed the topic. “When was it again? That one time with Asahi and the politics and economics test.”
With that as the only prompt Sawamura seemed to remember what Sugawara was referring to. “Oh, yeah. That one question that was like, ‘If consumption tax were to increase, what effects would it have on society?’”
“Yeah, that one! That one!” Sugawara said before bursting into laughter. Despite being the person the memory involved, Azumane’s difficult look indicated that he couldn’t quite recall.
  TRANSLATORS NOTE:
Please do NOT repost this translation ANYWHERE. If I see the whole thing elsewhere I will stop translating novel chapters and delete all chapter translations I have done. Sharing small snippets are okay but not the whole thing. Please link back to this Tumblr post if you want to share it.
“Let’s forget about that already… how about—”
“We can’t forget! The answer you gave, ‘It would be difficult to calculate totals with tax’, and you wrote “difficult to calculate”! That’s such an unexpected answer, it's practically on the same level as Hinata!”
When it came to the kings of unexpected answers on the standardized tests, of course the freak duo, Hinata and Kageyama, were both top contenders but this wasn’t to say that all the other club members were straight A students either. There were those that could make it through classes and test and of course those that couldn’t, and lastly those who were capable, but once in a while made unbelievable mistakes.
“I was so shocked that you wrote, ‘It would be difficult to calculate totals with tax’.”
Azumane glared at Sugawara laughing on the ground, picking at the loose parts of the tatami, blearily making excuses. “But think about it… if it were eleven percent or something with double digits*, such a half-assed number would make calculations ridiculously difficult, is what I was thinking. Wait… what’s the correct answer anyway? ”
“Well I mean as a plus, social security would be more stable… something like that? As for the cons, it would be the downturn of consumption. I think that’s right?”
Seeing Sugawara answer so thoughtfully, Azumane paused. “I… I see.”
Captain Sawamura was the one to begin panicking as he watched Azumane’s heart breaking, falling into depression.
Wait, he couldn’t let the ace’s spirits crumble right before practice. Rather than crumble, Azumane’s tofu-like mental fortitude would be crushed to pieces…
Being a captain is hard work.
And so Sawamura gave Asahi a light pat on the back and a laugh, and said, “Giving an unexpectedly incorrect answer isn’t a big deal. I mean, you were just writing how the tax payers felt. And the good thing about writing, ‘It would be difficult to calculate totals with tax,’ is that the question was open ended so you could get points for that. Right?”
But Sawamura’s efforts were in vain as Azumane laughed darkly. “No, I didn’t get any points.”
“Huh, but don’t you get at least one point for writing anything for an open ended question?” Sawamura was shocked and Azumane’s shoulders sank even further. “Apparently it wasn’t asking about effects on the individual.”
And as if the memories suddenly came back, the ace Azumane started ripping at the tatami on the verge of tears.
“So you had a harsh marking teacher…. don’t worry about it...” Sawamura said, trying to comfort Azumane while thinking, ‘What’s ‘individual’ even? What’s ‘society’? Sawamura seriously contemplated it like a question from an ethics class.
“You know, I actually don’t like doing multiplication by seven. So if it were seven or seventeen percent rather than eleven it’d be pretty difficult for me,” Sugawara’s bright voice piped up before he grimaced. “Anything with seven or four** or ending with seven (shichi) or four (shi) is hard to say.”
Upon seeing Sugawara’s expression, Azumane nodded in agreement. “Right? Might accidentally bite your tongue. Either of them followed by the number one (ichi) is difficult to say too!”
“I bet you that was made to make you bite your tongue.”
“There’s no way it was.”
With Sugawara’s words, Azumane’s face began to brighten.
“Seven times one is seven, seven times two is fourteen, seven times three is twenty one… huh wait. One? Or seven?”
“If you do it faster it’s even harder!”
Watching Sugawara and Azumane excitedly reciting their timetables, the prone-to-worry Sawamura let out a sigh of relief.
                                                                ***
At that exact moment, we return to Hinata outside.
“The ace and I... the same? Doesn’t that mean….. that I could also be the ace? I am the ace? The ace is me?” Hinata muttered to himself with that overly serious face.
A low voice came from behind him.
“Stupid.”
“Huh!? Even I know how to do my times tables!” Hinata turned around to find himself looking up at Tsukishima Kei, who was staring down at him with cold eyes, filled with contempt.
“What are you even talking about? Can you move? You’re in the way.”
“Huh? Well… it’s just…. It seems a bit awkward to head in…”
“Huh?”
Tsukishima glared at the fidgeting Hinata as if he were a major nuisance, but upon hearing the voices of the third-years inside he dropped himself next to Hinata to listen.
   TRANSLATION NOTES:
-       *At the time of publishing consumer tax was at 8%. It’s now at 10%, which arguably is easier to calculate. (but also if you follow the proper HQ timeline, tax won’t change for another few years anyway)
-       **The numbers 7 and 4 are shichi and shi, respectively and so saying them in quick succession can be difficult sometimes; adding one (ichi) makes it even more difficult.
As a small disclaimer:  I have taken some liberties in translation to make the novel read smoothly. So please don’t quote specific words as canon. That being said I tried my best to stay faithful to the original.  For this reason I will not allow translations into another language using this as the base text. I apologise to anyone who is keen on sharing it in another language but please do so using the original Japanese text.
Anyway, if you enjoyed this chapter please consider supporting Haikyuu and buying a copy of this novel (volume 11) ! I may consider doing more novel translations in the future!
I do have a Ko-fi so if you do feel like it, please donate!

What position/role would you be in, if you were working in a real publication office?
I can answer this because I already sorta do hahaha! I love working as an editor, with all the articles passing through me and with all the sports knowledge I pick up.
What led you to be interested in writing / creating content?
I don't know, really — it might have been all the reading I did as a kid. But I've been trying to write stories since I COULD write, and have been writing fiction properly since I was 10. I've loved it ever since.
Favorite episode from Daiya no Ace?
I really like the episode where everything comes together for Seido and they finally pull away from Akikawa. The way the tension is built up is *chef kiss*, plus that's when Sawamura really starts coming into his own. It's also the peak of a really, really good match-up.

✻ Ichi-go, Ichi-e {3/50}
Tumblr media
This set features prompts from a Tumblr account called Challenging Words. I don't know if I will continue to write for these prompts, but I wanted it to have its own book in case I decide to go back to it. These are reader insert fics spanning across multiple fandoms and do not need to be read in order like a series.
ichi-go ichi-e (一期一会) literally means "one time, one meeting" and refers to an encounter that happens only once in a lifetime. It's meant to remind you to treasure every moment because it will never recur again. I thought it was a fitting title for this set.
━━━━━━༻ ✻ ༺━━━━━━
New Hobby (Endeavor) _ Boku no Hero Academia / friendship, comedy (#20)
Together (Sawamura Daichi) _ Haikyuu!! / slice of life, soulmate au, school, student x teacher (#21)
Gets Better (Baekhyun) _ EXO / fluff, crack, slice of life (#22)
━━━━━━༻ ✻ ༺━━━━━━
Waiting
If one of these prompts stands out to you and I haven't written for it, feel free to suggest it in the comments below.
[x] = reserved but subject to change [✓] = completed but unposted
"It's dark, no one is going to see you."
"I wasn't prepared for this." "For what?" "You."
"I baked." "Really? All I see is destruction."
"You're doing it wrong."
"What are you doing?" "What does it look like I'm doing?"
"Did you not hear me say no right now?"
"I'll make sure you regret your decision from last night."
"All I wanted was five minutes longer."
"Are you really wearing that?"
"I'm not listening until you admit it."
"How quiet do I/we have to be?"
"Don't walk away from me!"
"How do we always end up here?"
"You've got to be kidding me!"
"Your turn."
"This isn't what I wanted."
"It's the wrong color."
"Can't you just take it slow/slowly?"
"I'm sure my life just flashed before my eyes."
"What did you just say?"
"You and I, we shouldn't belong together."
"It'll get better, right?"
"Boundaries. What happened to boundaries?!"
"Maybe we should have remained strangers."
"Come a little closer."
"What if I said no?" "But what if you said yes?"
"Your eyes are indecent."
"What I did? What about you?!"
"This is why I keep you around."
"Why is it always you?"
"Oh, that's too bad."
"You don't need an excuse to kiss me."
"One day, I shall have/covet you."
"I wasn't meant to find this, was I?"
"Not everyone is a saint, you know."
"Sometimes I wish you would disappear."
"I'll regret this for the rest of my life."
"I have no idea where to go to next."
"I heard a rumor."
"Why can't you hear me?"
"Shut up." "Why must I?"
"In what world would that happen?"
"Watch out behind you."
"Why can't you just believe me?"
"You're hardly innocent." "Oh, I know. But spending time with you makes me feel like an angel compared."
"My allergies!"
"Tomorrow. Let's do it then."
"My head hurts."
"Would you just sit still?!"

DAIYA NO A ACT II EPISODE 6
Finally Sawamura's return to form!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
AH I MISSED THE MISAWA BATTERY SO MUCH
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I missed his pitching so much! It's kinda sad we only saw so little of it
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Those two really are incredible. The perfect trust they have in each is other is very rare.
Tumblr media
I can't believe that we're being fed so much misawa content. And we have the Kasuga Ichi and Ichidaisan matches left!
Tumblr media
It's really incredible that even when pitching against a batter, all Eijun can see is Miyuki and his mitt.
Seidou wins this match with a called game and Sawamura's powerful pitching! In the next episode we're gonna get to see Inashiro vs Yakushi. I can't wait

By the Book (pt. 1)
A KuroDai Secret Santa gift for Pau (@pokomero_ at twitter).
Happy Holidays!!! Please accept my humble offering.
Daichi stops in front of barred room, looking into the dimly lit cell and pointedly stares at the shadowed figure lounging on the single bed attached to the wall.
“I know you’re awake,” he says after a few minutes of silence from the occupant of the cell.
There’s a light chuckle before the shadowed figure moves to sit up. “You know me too well,” the man drawls, earning an eye roll from Daichi.
“Come here. I need to speak to you.”
With a sigh, the man gets up and shuffles indolently towards the bars, where the lights on the hallway illuminates his face, a smirk already in place.
“Did you miss seeing my face, Sawamura?” The man’s tone is playful, but the glint in his eyes spells otherwise.
“It looks especially good behind bars, Kuroo,” Daichi replies with a fake smile that got wider when Kuroo drops the smirk and narrows his eyes at him.
“What do you want?” Kuroo’s voice takes a hardened edge.
Daichi drops the friendly façade as well, adopting a serious demeanor. “Someone broke into the Athenaeum last night and stole a few volumes of the Compendium from the Vault. Do you know anything about it?” He asks, getting straight to the crux of the matter.
Kuroo raises a brow at the information. “Someone broke into the Athenaeum? Again?” He whistles, clearly in admiration of the feat.
“Do you know anything about it?” Daichi asks again, through gritted teeth, keeping his anger at bay.
“I’m sure you haven’t failed to notice, but I’m currently locked up at the moment. I’m touched though, that you think I’m capable of running heists while imprisoned.” Kuroo says, putting a hand above his heart and bowing a little smugly, which earned him a glare from Daichi.
Kuroo huffs. “I don’t know anything. But if I ever get a chance to meet them, whoever they were, I’d like to shake their hand and congratulate them on successfully one upping you lot.”
“Your group isn’t behind this?” Daichi asks, suspicious, trying to gauge Kuroo’s expression for a hint that his lying.
Kuroo scoffs. “My group aims for aspirations higher than that. Why steal books about history when you can steal a book of life?”
Daichi hums. “Why indeed. Though I feel the need to remind you that you also failed on stealing a book of life.”
“I only failed because they were wrong about you.”
Daichi only looks at him with a bit of pity, but soon shakes his head. “Well, it seems that you really don’t know anything about it, surprisingly. But once I learn that your group is actually behind this, you might be sharing this cell with a few of your members.” He steps back just as Kuroo snarls viciously at him at the mention of threat to his group members. “Until then, enjoy your stay.”
Daichi tips his head in a small nod to the guard nearby.
Kuroo just rattles the bars of his cell in response, but Daichi’s already walking away without looking back.
-----
When a person is born, their soul is linked to a book that details their life from the day they were born up to the day that they die. Any change in the book will result to a change in their life’s path and a book’s destruction will cause the death of the person that owns it.
A few centuries ago, the books used to be entrusted to the person for safekeeping, as it is meant to be one’s guide through life. But due to human greed and dissatisfaction, some people decidedly altered, going as far as against the prescribed events in their book of life, some to gather more riches, some to extend one’s life, but ultimately fostering chaos and creating imbalance among the people.
It is when the collective governments ruled about keeping the Books in one place to avoid all of that and restore fairness, peace and order and those people that did not support this edict, while not treated as enemies of the state and will not be actively pursued by the Guardians, they were considered outlaws and were forced out of their respective districts to fend for themselves. Such is the price they pay for their supposed freedom.
Hence, the law criminalizing Alteration and the establishment of the Athenaeum.
The Athenaeum is the proud and large six story, distinctly domed building, lined with marble pillars and tall windows, with a vast underground Vault, located at the heart of the central district-Shiratorizawa. It houses the citizens’ books of life, both alive and dead. As designated by the book, there are people from different districts that were given jobs as Book Keepers, tasked to keep the books safe and to relay the prescribed activity to the respective citizens of their district.
Sawamura Daichi is the Head Book Keeper for the district of Karasuno. And like the other Keepers, he has a case on his hands.
The resurgence of Outlaws had been happening for over a few years now, and only few of them have been caught so far. One of them is Kuroo Tetsurou, the infamous leader of the Resistance, a group of Outlaws actively rebelling against the Government regarding the keeping of the books in the Athenaeum and letting it dictate the people’s life, going as far as propagating lies about its nature. People know better than to believe them, but that doesn’t seem to deter them. They tried to be aggressive though.
Daichi met Kuroo when he was caught in an attempt to steal Daichi’s book of life, perhaps to try and alter it, but he was thwarted by Daichi himself, who had been working late that night and was promptly turned over to the Guardians. His group laid low after he was caught, and things were normal. At least, until last night, when some of the Compendiums were stolen.
Compendiums are not as significant as the Books and are stored in the Vault along with the books of the dead, but they are kept as compilations of significant happenings throughout the course of history. In time of peace and order, and people living harmoniously, the only entries are about the ruling government and their achievements thus far.
However, the missing volumes, as what Shimizu had told him, are the earliest ones, particularly from the time before peace was restored, detailing the significant events when Books are still personal possessions. Therein lies the complication as Archivists and Keepers alike have reasons to believe that Outlaws probably stole them to gather information to aid their wayward cause.
“Any luck?” Sugawara’s up from his seat, even before Daichi can fully enter the Hall, where the rest of the Karasuno Book Keepers are waiting for him to hear the results of his investigation.
Daichi shakes his head, taking off his long coat, depositing it in the back of a chair. “He said he doesn’t know anything about it.”
“And we’re gonna believe him? Just like that?” Tanaka asks, visibly dismayed.
“He’s been imprisoned for a few months now. There are no visitors in his log.” Daichi replies. It would be a mistake to do so, after all, since any association with a known outlaw is enough grounds to be detained as well until thoroughly proven to be innocent.
“So what are we going to do?” Asahi worriedly looks around at his fellow Keepers.
“Our jobs,” Daichi answers decisively. “Security’s been tight since the incident, and while the Guardians are doing their best to find the culprit or culprits, we run things as normally as we should as well.”
Little did Daichi know that that is easier said than done.
-----
“-ichi! Daichi!” Daichi huffs and groans as he slowly registers the sensation of being shaken.
“Daichi, wake up!” He opens his eyes, blinking until the dimly illuminated face of Takeda comes into focus.
“…Sensei. Wha’s wrong?”
Takeda doesn’t answer him, but pushes something hard against his chest instead and throws clothes and a heavy cloak on top of him. “You have to hurry!” Takeda says with alarming urgency.
Daichi blinks the confusion out some more before looking down, and fishing the hard object, coming out with a familiar book. “Sensei, what’s happening?” He’s awake and alert now, looking around the room for potential danger. “Why did you bring my book?” The Books are meant to be kept in the Athenaeum and under no circumstances can they be taken and brought out.
Takeda turns to him, away from packing a satchel on the writing desk. “You need to leave, Daichi. It’s not safe for you to stay here.”
“Why?”
“I heard that the Guardians are coming to arrest you.” Daichi recoils in disbelief in that, until Takeda continues. “They think you stole the Compendiums.”
Daichi stiffens, stands frozen as white-noise pass through his ears, Takeda’s words repeats inside his head, then he snaps and straightens, eyes wide. “Wh-What?! Bu-but I didn’t! Sensei, I didn’t! Why would I do that? How did they think that?”
He’s done everything to be a model citizen, following orders and doing his job as Head Book Keeper seriously and religiously, setting an example to his fellow Keepers and their Scholars, basically living life by the book. Surely the Guardians know this. Why would they suddenly think that he’s going to turn and side with the Outlaws?
Takeda steps in front of him and grasps his shoulders. “I know, Daichi. I know. But they’re set on arresting you.”
“But why?!” He’s done nothing wrong.
“You visited Kuroo in the wake of the disappearance of the Compendiums. They seem to take it as circumstantial evidence of you working with him.”
Daichi feels like a bucket of frozen water was dumped on him, his earlier words come to mind, as if mocking him. He curses. “But I’m not! I was investigating! I wanted to know if he knows anything! If his group had anything to do with it!”
“Daichi, I know. I know you wouldn’t do that, but they don’t. A guard heard your conversation with Kuroo and whatever Kuroo told you, they find very incriminating.”
Daichi rapidly leafs through the memories of his encounter with Kuroo yesterday, and groans cursing Kuroo in his head when he remembers the bit about mentioning his failure and pinning the blame on Daichi.
“I can explain it to the Guardians, sensei. I’m sure they’ll believe me.” Running away is just… wrong, especially since he knows that he’s done nothing wrong and he’s not afraid to stand for the truth. He can prove his innocence.
“They will need the Compendiums back, Daichi. That’s the only way you can prove your innocence. Until those are back, you’ll be detained. We don’t know how long that will take.” The worry in Takeda’s eyes, in his whole being culminating in his shaking hands. Daichi’s seen his mentor be anxious about the smallest of things before, but it’s never like this, and never has anything to do with Daichi, for Daichi. But at the moment it’s so potent that Daichi swallows in fear of what’s in store for him if he stays.
“But… but this isn’t in my book. And the others, I can’t just-”
“Daichi, please! I’ll take care of the others, but you need to leave. They could be here any moment.”
Daichi doesn’t waste time changing into the deep brown tunic and khaki trousers, and cloak and well-worn boots, a garb simpler and inconspicuous than the distinct Keeper uniform of dress shirt and vest and slacks he wears to work, hastily pushing his book inside the satchel Takeda’s insistently pushing into him and clutching it close like a lifeline.
“Where will I go sensei?”
“Anywhere but here, Daichi. And not your district, that’s the first place they’re going to look. Get as far as you can! To another district, anywhere.” Daichi nods hastily, grabbing Takeda’s hand and squeezing it, a last ditch effort to get some comfort. He steps out and looks around the surroundings.
“Daichi,” he looks back at Takeda. “Keep your book with you at all times, alright? And stay safe.”
Daichi nods, slinging the satchel across his body and pulls the hood of the cloak over his head. He takes a deep breath and runs.
