Would it make it worse that, not only do I play video games on a 2015 MacBook air (which, besides being 8 years old, isn't even designed for running video games), I also do not use a mouse and game exclusively with a trackpad and keyboard?

I got absolutely zero crafting done today because I was busy trying not to panic about being under a tornado watch (it's over with no tornadoes, all good now), playing Stardew Valley, and getting sidetracked by discussions about human teeth plushies here on tumblr, but crafting updates should hopefully resume tomorrow! I do have a baby blanket almost done I'll probably be able to finish tomorrow, I just haven't taken any progress pictures

My Stardew Valley slime mod has been updated! I've been tinkering away at the thing lately, mostly behind the scenes stuff like coding. Instead of having a bunch of different versions of the mod to download for customization, now you just need one download and you can tinker with the config file from there.

The animal icons are slimes, Dusty is a slime, the chicken that Shane holds is a slime, even the exit icon is a slime! The horse (called a slime mount) has a alternate colors, and I've even added compatibility with the furry anthro mod (cause it's the one I play with).

The in-game text is now changed to match the slimey creatures, with fun names like wooly slimes, purr slimes, and milk slimes. My good friend @meraki-sunset was gracious enough to write up a Spanish translation too.

Again, there's a config file for customizing your experience. Livestock, Horse, Pets, and Text can all be toggled. It's best used with the config menu mod.

im not sure how active you are on tumblr or how many asks you get, but i hope you see this! i recently discovered a pc game still in beta that is EXTREMELY similar to stardew valley and breath of the wild. it's called palia. i really think you'll enjoy it and you should give it a shot! it's free and has hot people in it 👍

I've been following Palia's development for a while, but haven't tried it yet. I have been playing a fair bit of Coral Island, which comes even closer to the Stardew Valley/Harvest Moon formula (as far as I can see anyway). And while I've had mostly a good time with it, I start to just want to play Stardew Valley again after a while lol

Palia is an MMO from what I can tell, and I'll likely give it a shot but I honestly don't expect much from it, seeing as I usually give up on MMOs after a bit of grinding (unless the story and singleplayer experience is good enough to keep me going, like it was with smth like SWTOR).

#coral island is beautiful and competent (even tho 1.0 still feels a little beta #but it's... too wholesome?? for my tastes?#idk smth about it just feels a little surface level to me #maybe I just need to play it more #but I've gotten gamebreaking bugs too many times to not get frustrated

aah! thank you! i'm incredibly glad to hear that people like it so much. in all honesty i don't have that much to infodump about! the idea came out from a prompt about local kids befriending a strange eye monster around town, and my brain took that idea and thought: what if, amongst those kids, were elias, peter, and simon - who, in this Elsewhere, are... just kids! just friends running around, having a good time, getting into shenanigans, and chasing down local legends.

are the fears lingering around the edges of the town, drawing the three of them to themselves? possibly! are they fated to walk the same paths that lead them to the entities? perhaps! only time will tell.

all in all, i mostly just want to keep this AU as free and open as possible, so if anyone else is inspired by it and wants to play around with it, they can! i know that there has been talk about a fic in response to this art already, so it'll be interesting to see how that is interpreted!

though i guess what i can say is that these are some hc's i've had in mind while doodling:

Peter is homeschooled and his mother does not approve of him spending time with Elias and Simon.

Simon and his mother moved from Venice and they live with his stepfather.

Elias is a straight-A student who often helps Simon with his homework, as Simon struggles in school.

Maxwell Rayner has a Super Secret Cool Kids Only cave where he hangs out and reads books about space - he wants to be an astrophysicist when he grows up.

Sure! I don't feel like that's overstepping. Here you go:

(as far as writing goes) I've mostly been working on Zorlok but I've also done some writing for a sapphic novel idea I've been working on for a while, my other projects like System Processing, Hades' Kitchen, etc., a short interactive poem about misgendering/trans experience, and a couple other random things

What I've enjoyed? Spending a lot of time with my dog, going on long walks, chilling in coffee shops, baking, crafting, long-distance running and lifting, etc.

Playing: Baldur's Gate 3 (may have close to 500 hours in that game, but most of that's from Early Access, don't be too concerned), Octopath Traveler 2, Coral Island, Stardew Valley, Super Smash Bros. (that last one was for work though)

Watching: Jeopardy (always), everything on Dropout but especially Dimension 20, Our Flag Means Death, Youtube video essays, the BG3 cast playing BG3, 80s horror movies, film noir, that's all I can think of right now

Reading: The Locked Tomb series, Legends and Lattes, All Systems Red, The Wicked Bargain (specifically, the audiobook narrated by the Vico Ortiz), The Princess and the Grilled Cheese, Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone, and dozens of children's books

Nebula devblob Feb '24

This is a crosspost from cohost.

Thinking I'm going to start doing a weekly or fortnightly summary of changes on Nebula in a given week. Probably not going to be the most super thorough or well structured post, as I am a bit scatterbrained at the best of times, but heigh ho.

Nebula SS13 is an open source project based on the Baystation 12 version of Space Station 13. SS13 is a topdown multiplayer simulation game where you play the crew of a ship, station, colony, etc. depending on your fork and map, with the Nebula and Bay forks having a focus on roleplaying and simulation interactions.

Notable changes

Traitors (sort of like mafiosos in Mafia, secretly assigned antagonists) were getting tasked with assassinating their own informants among the crew. That has been fixed.

Quite a bit of work has been going into the fluid simulation. The current sim is a bit haphazard and allows you to use crewmembers or monkeys as sponges to soak up any flooding, since the water goes into their touching reagent holder and vanishes into thin air.

Lots of optimization work being done by Penny, mostly around initialization time, event registration/deregistration, and various smaller fixes and streamlining from her downstream project Lighthouse.

Outstanding bugs of note

There's a fun issue with the dev branch currently where, due to some changes to how atoms handle temperature changes, if you put a human in a 100C environment, all their blood will instantly coagulate into one giant clot. This has absolutely no negative impact on the human.

A serious client crash issue has been narrowed down to specifically trying to cut the tail off a humanoid mob with one. As soon as you dismember the tail, everyone within viewing distance will experience a hard client crash to desktop. This may simply be God's punishment; investigation continues.

Using an elevator to descend a level can drop you into a small patch of vacuum for unclear reasons. If you're very unlucky, that one tick of total pressure loss can explode your lungs. Use the stairs for now, it's better for you.

Current priorities

We have a few PRs waiting for merge into the 5th staging period, where we shake as many bugs as we can out of the dev branch before marking it an official release and pushing it to the stable branch. When those go in, we'll start r5 staging. Exciting stuff.

I'm working on some changes around enhancing the cooking system and the general experience of interacting with food. So far I've rewritten utensils to work a bit better - previously they liked to just teleport a chunk of food from your meal into your guts, bypassing all checking of petty things like 'can I actually fit this food in my stomach' and 'am I physiologically capable of eating this mint without exploding'. Next up: Soup(tm).

I kinda wanna add fishing? But I don't just want to use Polaris fishing where you click a rod on some water and wait for 300 years. Pondering how responsive a Stardew Valley fishing minigame would be in BYOND...

I have a lot of interests outside of my "main" interest of jellyfish, and I wanna share those with you guys

I've always been into music since I was little. I've been playing guitar for 8 years, been playing bass for two, and banjo for 6 months. I've also been playing trumpet for 4 years and piano for 3. I also write my own music, though I don't post it.

I also am into art! I'm a big graphite artist. Most of my art is done on drawing paper and a mechanical pencil, though I enjoy chalk pastel and oil pastel.

I'm an avid gamer. I play mostly story games, but I enjoy online games. My favorite games are Stardew Valley, TES V: Skyrim, FO4, and Hades. I also really like For Honor and Minecraft!

I am a huge fan of sports, surprisingly. My favorite sports are boxing and soccer (football). I also do school sports. I pole vault and sprint! Sports are a big part of my life.

Because of sports, I'm a fan of working out as well. I mostly do power lifts (deadlifts, squats, and benches), but I also do standard body shaping lifts like curls and delt workouts.

Those are just some of my many interests, but some honorable mentions are JJBA (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure), phonetics, & frogs. Have the day you deserve! Buh-bye!!

Overall, at least he doesn't let his mostly bratty brothers scare you to much

Beel

Honestly didn't rly notice

he just thought you wanted to cuddle when you jumped into his arms

but when he does eventually realize that your timbers were in fact being shivered,

he'll do his best to protect you and keep you away from anything scary like the good boi he is.

If he can tell a trailer for a horror movie is playing or anything like that, he'll pick you or just guide you away or just cover your eyes before anything scary can happen.

Overall, big boi doesn't judge you one bit, he might help you get over your fears if your willing, but if not that's fine, he enjoys being able to protect and help you.

Levi

One of my friends said I should play Stardew Valley because I've never played it before. I've never really been one for games that are mostly about farming, so I figured this wasn't gonna be a huge revaluation for me...

Yet I have not only gotten attached to my farmer, farm, the townsfolk, and my cat Bert... I've also gotten attached to my son (chicken) Paul.

Paul is an absolute menace and yet... I fucking love that stupid chicken. I realized AFTER adopting Paul that... maybe I should've given him a more feminine name??? But fuck it. Paul is a trans chicken and we love him for all his... evil ways.

Stain is such a great story, Alex and Sebastian have made so much progress understanding each other, and I'm excited for their relationship to continue to develop (not just physically... but okay really excited for that too!!)

Wondering what gave you the inspiration and what you like most about the Alex/Sebastian pairing, or any other thoughts about Stardew Valley as a fandom you want to share!

Honestly the thing that inspired me the most was just playing the game! :D

I have nearly 1800 hours in Stardew Valley, and that's like...what I would call a few hours to just daydream about all the characters. And me being the multi-shipping fiend that I am, I do also just like to imagine all the characters in relationships with each other.

I'm not someone who really cares about my farmer (or PC) in the central romance, which is why I don't write this in video games that have you as a player character! I didn't do that for Stuck on the Puzzle, or The Wind that Cuts the Night, or Palmarosa. I don't actually care as much about whoever I'm romancing, I care more about what relationships can happen between other characters.

And I think because I daydream about that, rather than my farmer character (or me) with the NPCs, that gives me like a lot of time to think of different things.

I started daydreaming about Sebastian as a top several years ago, he had that energy to me even like 2 years before I romanced him (the amount of times I've romanced Alex is criminal at this point). I sometimes imagined him with like Sam, but mostly Alex. I also imagined him being good goth literature friends with Elliott lol

Even in The Wind that Cuts the Night I have Sebastian as a top with the farmer :D

I don't actually get that involved with the fandom in general. I've tried a few times, and some of the fanart is incredible (and the MODS omg), but I've never really loved any of the SDV fic that I've read (or more accurately: skimmed). I don't like farmer/NPC pairings. The vast majority of people wrote Sebastian as a bottom (or a fluffy vanilla top which is somehow worse) in m/m like 4-5 years ago and I'm too tired to check how much that's changed.

Alex actually gets a lot of hate in the fandom - at least amongst most of the queer players - and seeing a character who is a victim of child abuse treated like that just kind of left me with a bad taste in my mouth (it seemed to be based around Alex's initial rudeness, which doesn't last nearly as long as Shane's, who was hero-worshipped long before he got his whole storyline, because he wasn't romanceable for years).

So I really avoid the fandom, and I couldn't tell you who's writing the most popular fics or the most popular pairings or anything like that. I don't look into the tags, and almost all the fanart I've ever shared here or at @capillata has been shared to me by someone else first.

So yeah the answer is mostly just that I daydream a lot and I've had many many hours to do it in! :D

I like Alex/Sebastian as a pairing mostly because I've always just liked troped opposites in enemies to lovers. The jock vs. the goth nerd has been a long-term media troped opposition romance pairing, and even outside of romances, is often shown as 'oppositional.' Many people even have memories of that in their school experience.

To me, the idea that Alex is always shown as completely alone (sans Haley or grandparents), and that Sebastian is nearly always shown with friends when he's not being like... deeply moody in a goth way, was really fascinating to me. ConcernedApe was already working hard to say 'this isn't what you think it is' even within the game. Alex is the one who apologises to you for being so desperate and also unrealistic about his sporting/goth abilities. Sebastian is the one who already has a job and is incredibly social - he's in a band that regularly practices and even performs outside of his hometown, he regularly plays TTRPGs with friends, and he regularly goes to the bar and plays pool and hangs out with friends. He's not a 'loner nerd.' He is hands down the most popular and social person in Stardew Valley who you can romance, outside of Sam, who is the same amount of popular. Like, Sebastian is literally a socialite social butterfly who is successful and charismatic and rides a motorbike. Subversion pretty fucking successful on that trope :D

To me, the game gives us the set up to a bullies-to-lovers scenario just by giving us the trope, and then subverting the trope. I always kind of liked that, but could never imagine writing it, until I aged them up and had Sebastian and Alex both mentally kind of growing up a little.
