Someone: *mentions doctor who*
Me, vibrating with the effort it’s taking to not talk about something no average show watcher would even have heard of: oh yeah cool show

Do you want to comfort your fav fictional character because you love them and don't want them to be alone or do you want to do it because you see yourself in them and you project onto them and comforting them is the only way you can comfort yourself since you've always had to manage and take care of your own feelings and had to suffer alone and be the only one there for yourself? Hmm?

one thing people never understand is that i can and will ship characters with multiple other characters. like, we’re not discriminating here. not in this household, my good sir. equal opportunity. if they want to make out, they can make out. don’t stand in the way of that. love is beautiful. thank you for coming to this ted talk.

actually the jessica rabbit paradigm is one I'm going to take onboard more in regards to characters: "does this character actually fuck, or do other characters just want to fuck them?"
otherwise known as the "I'm not bad, I'm just drawn that way" dichotomy
obviously first coined by all those clever people who dubbed jessica rabbit an ace icon, and is applicable to other characters who are considered sexy by others, but which doesn't reflect their own canon attitude towards sexuality. this often including the writers and audiences of the text, who likewise project an allosexuality into a context in which it doesn't necessarily exist, based on the perceived attractiveness of the character and how other characters react to that perceived attractiveness

doctor who lore is like like well there's no children on gallifrey except in all these scenes where there are children on gallifrey. also time lords reproduce via cloning machines but also this guy is the doctor's father and the doctor recalls several memories of him through various incarnations except for when he recalls being born from a cloning machine as a full-fledged adult. actually the doctor isnt even from gallifrey at all. gallifreyans are sterile but the doctor had children with a wife that literally never gets mentioned ever. the doctor is a clone of one of the founders of gallifrey. actually the doctor's mom is a human woman. the doctor has a brother except everyone on gallifrey are "cousins" because of how the cloning machines work. btw the doctor's cousin gluppo drowned in a fish bowl.

not to be an annoying cunt but as long as everybody's chill about it differences in opinion should be more socially acceptable in fandom spaces. it’s so boring when everyone in a community is supposed to agree on everything.
