I'm very excited to finally share the alternative dust jacket designs I did for dazzlingbookishshop's FT Lukens set! I absolutely adore these books and they were such a pleasure to illustrate covers for. Check out their site for details if you're interested in grabbing the set!
critical lack of fanart for so this is ever after by ft lukens!! might draw the rest of the crew but for now here's my designs for arek (terminally bisexual and secretly in love with his mage) and matt (the mage, who is exhausted). they are both incredibly stupid. i gave them gay earrings btw
[id: a digital bust drawing of arek and matt standing side by side, facing forward and eyeing each other. arek has reddish brown hair swept back from his head, greyish eyes, and has a slit in one eyebrow. he is wearing a lace-up white shirt under a red vest with gold trim. matt has wavy brown hair that falls across his forehead, dark brown eyes, and medium brown skin with faint freckles. he is wearing a blue shirt with silvery trim and a darker blue jacket. end id.]
A Comprehensive List of all of the (Queer) books I've read since September 6th (as of September 28th):
Spell Bound by F.T. Lukens
Magic, chaos, a nonbinary protagonist, and a cursed rug that's a bit of a dick. (also I may or may not have bought this one in the first place because the two main characters reminded me of James and Regulus. Even after finishing it, I stand by that assessment lmao)
In Deeper Waters by F.T. Lukens
Pirates and Princes and Magic Oh My! Oh and magic. Did I mention magic? Because there's also magic.
So This is Ever After by F.T. Lukens
"And they were Soulmates!" (Oh my god they were soulmates...) but with the obligatory "I love him but he doesn't love me the same way" trope.
Red, White, and Royal Blue by Casey Mcquistion (I read it twice this month)
I don't think this one needs a description at this point. If you've seen the movie, I recommend the book. Both are fucking amazing, but there are just so many things that the movie couldn't do with the time frame it had to fit into. <3
Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall
Fake dating so hard it becomes real. You know how it goes. ^.^
Simon vs. The Homo sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli (I've read this one so many times ngl)
Not sure this needs a description, but this too, is better than the movie. Which I also love so so very much ^.^ <3
Fake Dates and Mooncakes by Sher Lee
Okay, this one made me emotional. I love it so much!
The Extraordinaries by TJ Klune (book 1)
Flash Fire by TJ Klune (book 2)
Heat Wave by TJ Klune (book 3)
SUPERHEROES. FANFICTION. LESBIANS. (the lesbians are side characters but they're always a presence and I love them) AND SO MUCH ADHD THAT IT'S A SUPERPOWER ALL ON ITS OWN. I just finished this series like five minutes ago and I'm so obsessed!!! ToT I love them all so much!!!
(totally has nothing at all to do with the fact that the Dnd campaign I'm a part of is about our modern world but with mutants and magic and heroes and all that jazz~)
I loved every single one of these books so much and I highly recommend them to anyone looking for some really cute lgbtq romances!
ft lukens books aren’t like poetic or super well written or developed but they’re queer af & sooo fun to read!! like i never regret reading one bc I just have a grand old time
Convincing you to read queer romance books by their aesthetic (8/∞):
So This Is Ever After by F.T. Lukens
Arek hadn’t thought much about what would happen after he completed the prophecy that said he was destined to save the Kingdom of Ere from its evil ruler. So now that he’s finally managed to (somewhat clumsily) behead the evil king (turns out magical swords yanked from bogs don’t come pre-sharpened), he and his rag-tag group of quest companions are at a bit of a loss for what to do next.
As a temporary safeguard, Arek’s best friend and mage, Matt, convinces him to assume the throne until the true heir can be rescued from her tower. Except that she’s dead. Now Arek is stuck as king, a role that comes with a magical catch: choose a spouse by your eighteenth birthday, or wither away into nothing.
With his eighteenth birthday only three months away, and only Matt in on the secret, Arek embarks on a desperate bid to find a spouse to save his life—starting with his quest companions. But his attempts at wooing his friends go painfully and hilariously wrong…until he discovers that love might have been in front of him all along.
So I've been absolutely obsessed with F.T. Luken's newest book called Spell Bound. Like, reading and listening to it over and over and over because it's just SO CUTE and I wish we could have had more of Rook and Sun. The two of them are just so sweet and eerily familiar if you know anything at all about my OCs. I really enjoyed the book's magic system, the dynamic between the younger characters and the older ones, and it was so funny and relatable. If you're into magical, character-driven, queer fiction, give this book a read.
If you enjoyed this work, leave a like and reblog 💖
I don’t think you guys realize how much I love these books, like I read both of them in a day and now I’m wishing I could erase it from my memory and read them all over again.
I just bought F.T. Lukens' So This is Ever After. I've never heard of it and I don't exactly know what it's about, but I feel bad every time I come out of a bookshop without buying anything, and it has a pretty cover.
It seems like a good story, tho. It kinda reminds me of Carry On, by Rainbow Rowell (which I recently finished), and that's a pretty good book, so maybe it is as good?. I really hope it is. Anyway, there's only one way to find that out.
I am anticipating a lot of books. To keep track of them, I made a 2024 tbr shelf. It has 123 books. I certainly won't be reading all 123, but since I can sort the list by release date it helps me keep track of new releases. Unfortunately, 123 is so many that half of them I don't even remember adding them or what they're about, so I decided to boil it down to 10 most anticipated new books and 10 sequels.
