This was such a delight! Gwen is a princess at Camelot, years after Arthur Pendragon has turned to myth. Arthur is her betrothed. However, neither is looking forward to their future together because both are queer.

Gwen has spent years falling for the one and only female knight that takes part in the tournament every summer while Art is falling for Gwen's brother. This story is not only romantic but is full of meaningful moments. The dialogues, the banter, is so funny and enjoyable.

The ending completely surprised me. I thought this would never get too serious, but the ending is intense!

i’ve finished reading “gwen and art are not in love” by lex croucher, a book i didn’t think i’d love so much. when i first stumbled upon it, i thought it would be just another read, maybe a little light-hearted to help me get out of a reader’s block i will forget about in a week. and oh boy was i wrong. i absolutely loved everything about this book, the brilliant plot, the polished characters and the dialogues that sounded so not forced. i can easily say it’s my favorite read of 2023 and i WILL be annoying about it.

GWEN AND ART ARE NOT IN LOVE - LEX CROUCHER Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Gwen and Art Are Not In Love tells a tale as old as time - boy meets girl, both are gay, and a little queer clique is formed.

The writing is funny, and all the characters are loveable. It features a lesbian knight! Watching the friendships and romances develop with a backdrop of court intrigue and knight tourneys was perfect.

I assumed this was going to be a King Arthur retelling, it’s not at all. But it is set at Camelot a few hundred years from the actual events. Although it is an alternative history, social pushback still exists against defying gender norms (i.e., being a lady knight) and same-sex relationships.

I will re-read this when I get my hands on a physical copy in November (for UK people, I think it came out in May, go read it now!!)
